La Sombra del Pasado #123 (Mex 126) 8-7-15 Valeria the Skankster Strikes Out and Sev's Anvils Line Up!
We begin with the end of the conversation at Cande’s bedside where Cris asks her upfront if she was an accomplice to the lie that Sev told about how he lost his arm. He asks if she knew that Sev did not loose his arm in an accident with a plow or some such but rather that Raimundo Alcocer hacked him with a machete. Cande says she didn’t know. She always suspected his story but she didn’t want to know the details or become involved in such a disturbing event. Cris takes Cande’s hand. He shares his fear that he is losing the respect he had for her and Sev forever, he feels so deceived and betrayed. Cande says she would do anything in her power to change how he feels but she cannot defend Sev because she doesn’t know what his real thoughts and motives are. Cande swears she loves Cris with all her heart and it hurts her deeply this abyss that has grown between him. Cris drops her hand and leaves her side, he is unmoved and unconvinced and leaves her room with his single tear still in place. Ah, Candela, for once you tell the truth [she DIDN”T know how Sev was really severed] and your beloved Cris doesn’t believe you.

Have at it!
In addition to being a judgemental prude, I'm also a heartless bitch and I quite enjoyed watching Sev tell Val that her piece of well used ass actually wasn't all that and no, he didn't need her services any more.
Still not on the Lola- Em ship.
Lila, your recap was marvelous and brimming with delicious detail and insightful comments.
"Get an app, Lola, and push the button for the next time you’re dissing Pato like this!" and "reconditioned Motorbike of Love" were excellent but my favorite was "... seeking some solace and peace in the hushed and darkened sanctuary though she tries to smile lightly, her eyes smolder and she almost needs a hankie to wipe the drool. Or is that me?"
I took grim satisfaction that Val's machinations were not effective and that she was dismissed almost immediately. She is a terrible person but the truth is that her evil deeds are overshadowed by those whose cruelty has been festering for much, much longer - Sev and Cande.
Proud that Dominga told Cande that Sev had "visited" Val. It certainly did not take her long to put the obvious facts together, did it? Throwing her love for the Padre in Sev's face was courageous and she paid dearly for it with a vicious attack. I know I should be ashamed for feeling no pity for her, but I am reserving that emotion for those who genuinely deserve it.
I like Eman and Lola together and look forward to their reuniting which hopefully isn't far away. Eman/Alex's acting has been excellent - he emotes honestly and with purity.
I do want Aldonza and Cris happy but they have been apart far more than they've been together and the great love we'd hoped for has not materialized. With each episode, their being together in the end in view of all that Sev has done renders the possibility more hopeless.
Initially, I liked the idea of Tomas and Silvia. Now, I truly like the couple. Truly opposites, their attraction is palpable and she seems so happy.
Thank you so much Lila.
Diana
I really liked the cream and blue scarf Cande was using in one of the scenes.
And despite Cande's flaws, I did not like Sev slapping and backhanding her.
Val is a legend only in her own mind. But now she knows exactly what Roberta felt like when Sever used her and threw her away. She was delusional if she ever thought Sever had any intention of letting her marry his son and foist another man's child on him, especially after she slept with his father.
We know Sever is really unhinged now, as he's even treating Cande like he treats his mistresses. Perhaps Val should count herself lucky that she was dissed and dismissed before Sever raped/smacked/murdered her, as he does with his other women/victims.
May I carry on about THE NEW KISS: Eman and Vero! Holy Smokes! The way he looked in her eyes, gazing deeply into the window to her soul and then carefully, consciously and passionately kissed her. Lord, have mercy! THAT is what some of us watch these things for and THAT is what we want to see from our main couple dang-on-it! Lawzy! That was hot! Rewind city in the morning when hulu+ has it up!
Loved all the sibling love scenes with Eman and Al. Hate that Sever's new henchman will be watching Al, but grateful Eman will also be there keeping watch. I hope Jacinto mentions seeing Sever pay a wad of cash to a shady guy.
Vile must have a very strong stomach to be able to boink her "Tio". I want the whole town to know about this! If stoning is still an option Vile would get hers.
For Sev to hit Candela like that is disgraceful in the normal way of things but she's got her neck in a brace. He could have crippled her permanently. Not that he would care.
He will become even more unhinged when news of the trunk gets out.
Lila- Yes, that goodbye kiss was awesome!
Sorry to miss the Em-Vero kiss, she kinda grew on me. If Vero and Don Ant leave, how is he going to figure in the final venganza?
Sorry to miss the unveiling of the coffin table. Not sorry to miss the hook-up of the slimey snakes duo (SeVal). Glad she will get her comeuppance. I'm glad that Irma and Uriel will end up with a mini-Lardo out of the deal.
Lila, thanks again.
J in Oregon
Let me start by fixing just one of your lines here..."RPC time folks because I'm [going to have enough nightmares as it is] and I despise what happens next." There. Fixed it for you ;)
"Get an app, Lola, and push the button for the next time you’re dissing Pato like this!" No kidding. Save your voice for the gossip, Lola!
"as that song with the girl singing in a baby voice swells in the background" Um...I don't know what that song is, and I think I'd rather not know. It is just...not my favorite.
"they are lost for an even longer moment in a passionate and poignant kiss" Mr 5ft didn't think that looked like a goodbye kiss. I thought it looked like a "goodbye to the cantina, hello to a room" kiss!
"Dom gives the neck brace coordinated Cande her medicine." Best robe-scarf combo yet. Mixing the prints. Damn, that's classy.
"Does he mean that what happened between them last night meant nothing?" That just cracked me up! I know Val wasn't trying to be funny, but that was funny. And so was her look when she realized her ride on the gravy train was OVER!
"Cande goes flying to the floor where she grabs her neck in pain and shakes with disturbing, seemingly seizure like quaking as Dom looks on in horror!" I admit, I was looking on in horror. And I don't even like Cande.
OK, so, I need your opinion on the Candy House Saga...should I keep adding lines going forward with the information we're finding out, or correct the past information with what we're finding out?
Sara, your new avatar is making me hungry :D I'm not feeling Em-Lola either, but...whatever, I guess. I see we're also on the same page about Cande's accessorizing and not liking to see Sev slap her like that. It made me want to grab my own neck!
Diana, is there a "We didn't like Tomas and Silvia before, but we love them now" table? 'Cause I'm so there :D
Vivi, your new avatar is making me smile! "Val is a legend only in her own mind" is sooooo damn true! And I'm agreeing with your whole comment. *shudder*
Lila, too true! We've been waiting for a kiss like that from our main couple and instead it's the breakup kiss? Whaaaaat?!
Urban Anthropologist, I had the same thought about Cande's neck being more fragile than usual. That just really creeped me out to see it.
J, you bring up a good point...no fair if Don Ant leaves town and he doesn't get to see Sev brought down.
Wow, Vile has no idea what a nasty, old tiger she had by the tail. She thought that bod would put him completely in her control. Ha... Girl is too dumb and conceited to realize that she just did the limbo with Satan. And she called him Tio. Wow..unaware much ? I especially enjoy watching her shake her little head and flounce out of the room like a seventh grade mean preteen when she is ticked.
Vivi..great photo.
Must get to bed. To quote Katie Scarlett O'Hara, " Tomorrow is another day....y'all."
" her eyes smolder and she almost needs a hankie to wipe the drool. Or is that me?"
Wonderful way to describe it. And the little waltz they did...she starts to leave, he softly calls out "Lola"....she leaves again, again he calls out...the tension and the yearning builds...will they kiss? will they fall into each other's arms?....that sweet sexy scene wiped out the horror of the loathsome mating of Sev and Valeria.
With all the other events building to a climax, I've totally lost interest in the Candy House, but maybe the final reveal will be significant.
And Candela is becoming more and more poignant which makes me think she will not survive. We're beginning to see her as-- initially-- a neutral character, a typical, privileged young woman with dreams of a future with the man she loves...who,after his loss, by marrying the wrong man is destined to make one bad decision after another, leading to her eventual ruin.
Lila, when you write, the words have such energy, they jump right off the page. Bet you're a hoot to be around. Keep the faith, lady. Great recap.
I think Val is one of the luckiest girls in the world. To date, Sev has dealt with his cast off lovers by killing them. I am surprised that she wasn't surprised that her willingness to offer herself sexually wasn't appreciated as it has been all her sexually active life. Therein lies the difference between young men who will take anything they can get, and a cold calculating manipulator like Sev.
I want Val to be discredited so completely that not even the town drunk will want to have anything to do with her.
The Cris-Aldonza relationship is on a back burner while we wait for other events to unfold, but their marriage remains legally in effect.
Renato is losing on all fronts.
I am hoping that boozy Pru will make an appearance next week wreaking chaos everywhere she treads. I still think that, while she thinks she is protecting her daughter, she will be the engine of destruction for her.
I hope all the problems in SL can be resolved before PJ leaves for his reassignment, otherwise I think the social order in that town will be torn to shreds without his steady hand at the tiller.
It seems to me that Mary might be on the cusp of understanding a lot of things, which may lead to her redemption.
Thanks again, Lila. I am really enjoying watching this rattle down to its conclusion, and your retelling of the events added a lot to my delight in seeing it all unfold.
David
That would be Pru.
Since both Vile and Pru have done things that are jail-worthy they should end up there. I was hugely disappointed at the end of MCET when Isabela didn't end up in prison for everything she did so this would be even more of a disappointment if neither of them paid for their sins.
Only the desire not to stain my own soul will I not say what I would like to have happen to her during childbirth! UUuuuf! I despise her!
Sorry to be behind in the discussion, I'm just up and going through! Y'all know I LOVE y'all's take on things!
Diva!! Thanks Cap'n! That slimy Sev/Val hook-up IS the stuff of nightmares AND upchuking! Blech! Re THE NEW KISS I thought it looked like a "goodbye to the cantina, hello to a room" kiss! So right!
Re Vile's being kicked to the curb after sharing what she thought was her mind-blowing bedroom skillz, I can't believe it's over! We know she's not going to abort; I can't wait to see Cris's face when he hears the news. I assume Sev is going to tell him! Somebody's going to get a great episode!
Hmmm. Candy House. Let's see. I think I like your adding lines. Going through comments so I'll see what others think and thank you for keeping up with the Candy House, a beloved and enduring "character" that they had better not mess up!
SIGHHHHHHHH, Right there with you Lila. I could take some fresh in the morning, or too hot while working on the horses, or I just stepped out of the shower moments with E-man every day until we cap this thing. I have resigned myself as well that he and Lola are end game, but man, that "farewell" to Vero? I soooo agree that is what we have been lacking in this TN and we got it with the wrong couple.
Like everyone is commenting, this was a poorly told love story with our main squeezes and somehow as we move to the end, they seem to be more disconnected then ever. Just having Allie continually claim Cris is the love of her life doesn't do it for me. The actions aren't really there, maybe a bit more from his side, but Cris' comment seemed to come straight from CARAY bloggers...he IS an extension of his father in her eyes and the writers have never shown us a good way for that to be dealt with. Cris finding out all the truths about his father to me would make it even worse in a way. He sees her and reminds him of the horrors his father put her through...can these two please get some counseling? Otherwise this will be one of the worst resolutions and putting a couple together I've seen in awhile.
LOVED Tomas and Silvia and the moment in the tower was so poignant. Leave them be writers.
But it leads to the questions of Ren and Pato. What happens here? Do they join Joaquin at the "4G club" - Good Guys Get Garbage Club. If they break up Sylvia and Tomas after last night to put her back with Ren that will be fake and forced. Pato has to come off with no one since if they push Mari that will make us all hurl and be more than unfair and Joaquin needs to keep shoving Flavia out the door. What the heck did these guys do to deserve either nothing or some beyotch they try to redeem to force a couple?? They really messed up the story for the Bod Squad guys.
Wow, walked right into Sev's trap but she did live to tell the tale. That makes her desperate, so not looking forward to her next move.
But Sev hitting Cande? Is she annoying and deserves her own anvil, sure. But wow, that was a turning point moment. He has always refrained from that with her over and over, reinforced that he did "love" her in his own twisted way and to do that showed he has totally lost it and now doesn't care. And frankly, if she is worth her salt, he's out of that house now. Makes me a bit panicky for PJ though.
Sara, how's the kitty this morning?
Daisynjay
Vivi - it's funny that I can separate Alex Sirvent from his QA character, but not the Vero actress. (I even typed her QA character name first.)
"Get an app, Lola"
Oh my friggin gawd, Emanuel and Veronica gave me chills and that a break up kiss, the actors done it proud.
I cover my ears and close my eyes when Lola appears
Thelma, Thelma, Thelma, girl you are really so good at bad
Agree, that scarf Cande wore, me like. Alejandra Barros is really pretty
Renato my good man, you snooze you lose
Incredible the thing that angers Severiano more than anything is Cande's love for PJ
Kat- I think we've almost reached resolution on the Candy House story. We now know Arnoldo is the mystery giver/maker. We just need to find out now why he and Marga didn't get married, and where is he now/is he still alive. I'm sure Mel and Lola will help close out this old love story by getting the info.
Thanks, Doris, my cougar partner! Wait til you see the Vero/Eman scene. And yah, FFWD through the Vile/Sev scene, yuck!
Gracias, Susanlynn, you are right about Vile. Sev's been around the block several times AND he's got too much invested in ES to let it ride on her skanky tail.
OMG, Judy B, thank you, hon! You're too kind! Yeah, I WAS rewarded with some delicious scenes! I like this JudyB about the Eman/Lola scene: . . .that sweet sexy scene wiped out the horror of the loathsome mating of Sev and Valeria.
I'm seeing a lot more comments about Alejandra Barros's beauty. Are they starting to lighten up on her make up? Because she really is looking less harsh. Possible redemption? Are there degrees of redemption. I'm not sure she qualifies for full redemption, but damn I'm starting to feel sorry for her.
Betcha had Alex Sirvent been our Cris and a broomstick been Aldonza I'd be cheering the couple
Sara, poor kitty, hate it when they hurt
Amen to what you say about Pru as well! We got a break from her today but she is definitely going to be "an engine of destruction" for Vile! Yes, bring her on! And, unfortunately, I think you're right about Mari:
It seems to me that Mary might be on the cusp of understanding a lot of things, which may lead to her redemption.
David, I just want all her lies to surface. If somebody doesn't out her, I want her to confess all her lies to Eman, Lola and to her parents as a part of her redemption!
Okay, guys! Not done going through comments. Thank you in advance. I'll be back with you after me and the boys tie on the feed bag!
She's probably afraid to out Vile because of Sev, but I doubt Vile would confide the latest development in her. Since Prudencia hasn't been sober since about episode 10, she is the most likely to do this.
SARA I hope the vet can identify what's wrong with Mr Kitty. Sending hugs.
Even though I missed this ep, feels like I was right there watching, thanks to the great recap and all the comments.
The man Melesio id'd as Marga's suitor, can't recall have we heard his name before?
Remember when Renato and Sylvia rented that wonderful office space, and the landlord said he might have them do some work for him, 'cause there was someone who owed him money. And then the camera dwelt meaningfully on that big oak desk. Hopefully those little details don't fall through the cracks.
J in O
I hope we are not alienating viewers who disagree. If any of you out there see a way Cris and Aldonza can overcome this horrendous obstacle I'd love to hear your take on it.
Unfortunately, I wouldn't put it past them to kill Ren off, Pato and Mari will probably hook up and, hurlworthy though it is, Flavia's "kindness and patience" will pay off and Jock will see that (say this with feigned syrupy sweetness) she really loves him!
I did not pay close attention last night, but did Marga say her suitor went off to try and make his fortune?
Lila I hope we do hear from people who have a differing opinion of the Cris and Aldonza/rape dynamic. I really want to be OK with their relationship because it doesn't look like she'll be getting any kind of therapy.
J in O
It has been wrongly done, and then add to that she's supposed to walk off healed and happily ever after with the son of the rapist somehow...yeah, they blew this one. But I have enjoyed the actors and sub-plots of the show, and that has made me stick with it ( not to say the very handsome, non-body builder galans).
So with all this talk of who gets ES, wonder how Ren's partnership and putting money into the place is considered. And totally forgot about that desk. A dropped ball maybe?
Speaking of whom, better not kill off Ren, Lila. He doesn't deserve that type of ending for all he's done...just to make it make sense for the top two. No No No. Let him be single or see someone across a crowded room as the screen fades. It's Patricio in Refugio all over again if they do that...still not over that one. Couldn't take another one.
Daisynjay
I hope not. I don't want to see Ren die but when people start a story out like this I don't trust them as far as I can throw my TV.
First, so funny that Sev didn't mind sleeping with Valeria before he tells her that she's a slut and to get out. I hope he does tell everyone that she's not having Cris's baby.
How long will it take to ID the decomposed body? I can't believe how fast they determined that Adelina was murdered, so maybe they'll jump on this too. All we need is for Lola to hear about the box and she can let everyone know who it is. Can't wait!!!
Daisynjay
Did the Candy House and desk have any significance , or were they just diversions ?
You know, Simoneta's end is so gruesome. I don't watch any of these CSI shows but I bet you someone on the Patio can answer that. With only two weeks left the ID has got to come next week and figure in the unmasking and downfall of Sev the Dev. It is sad but true Lola knows about the coffin table. We've had so much grief this week and there's more ahead with this terrible discovery. And I'm sure Cris will know how to offer Lola comfort and solace during the shocking revelation! Oh yeah, Cathyx, like I said, EVERYbody will get a good episode to watch and recap in these last two weeks!
Daisy, girl, I know. I beseech the tn gods that it not be so!
Susanlynn! Okay, duly noted Susanlynn! I like this:
Ren deserves a happy ending for his unfailing devotion to someone who has basically used him throughout this whole show. if not a happy ending, at least let the poor guy live
There is more than a ring of truth and justice to the sentiment that Aldonza doesn't deserve Renato. We know these stories are not about people going through trauma and realizing that they need a break from intense, intimate relationships for a while to just heal and live and discover themselves but that's what Aldonza, Cris, Eman and Lola ALL need to do. But, they've GOT to pair everybody off. . . .or kill them!
If not, it was to give poor Eman some love and happiness from somewhere and to have Vero give Mari the reality check that has apparently begun her (grrrrrrr) "redemption."
Candy House a diversion. . .replacement for the stock clown character. . .and I really didn't catch the desk thing.
I think that Sev starting to attack Candy is part of her eventual redemption.
((Sara))..I am sending good vibrations out for Kitty )))))) and for you)))). I have cried many years for bpeoplevand animals I love.
It will happen on El Santuario, Sev's obsession for probably his entire life. He is currently having Aldonza watched. I hope that this guy is an undercover cop because he seems to have come out of nowhere. Sev will go up to ES in the middle of the night and either make another attempt at rape or at murder. Whichever it is he will drag her near the falls, maybe to the spot where he dumped Simoneta's body in the trunk. There will be a nasty struggle, an edge-of-your-seat kind, which will be witnessed by Cristobal. The wind will be in the right direction for him to hear Aldonza scream and Sev threaten her. He will start running to her rescue (finally) only to be held off by Sev holding a gun to her head. The police will be closing in, sirens blaring, which will trigger Sev's phantom pain. He will fall and try to take Aldonza with him, but she will get away from the edge with Cristobal's help. Sev will hang over the falls on his one arm. The police will arrive, fully armed and prepared to arrest him. He will let go and fall in the river rather than be captured. The current will be too strong for a one-armed man, but there will need to be an "x semanas mas tarde" to find the body and confirm his death.
I think the Candy House diversion is so much better than a clown type character. I've never liked that... especially in a drama.
I think I had the episode where the desk first showed up and I may have read too much into it. I freely admit I was in the middle of a Nancy Drew reading kick at the time.
The police have determined that the woman in the trunk was murdered and that she had been pregnant. The trunk was found on El Santuario, so there will be questioning of anyone who is on that property regularly. Lola had visions or dreams about her mother and she would recognize that trunk. She knew Simoneta was pregnant and she sure as hell will remember the last time she saw that trunk, which was after the last time she saw Simoneta.
Aldonza's rape can't be a permanent secret. Lola knows and has almost spilled the beans. Whether she tells anyone or Aldonza does, it would be egregiously wrong of the writers to not bring this to light.
Adriano might have to wake up from the coma to reveal Abelardo's arson-for-hire and that he killed Abelardo on Sev's behalf.
One thing is certain: If Aldonza and Cristobal are to be together at the end of this tale, he has to be able to trust anything she tells him about Sev. That likely means that all his crimes have to come to light before he will believe that he raped Aldonza (and three other women we know of).
Nancy would have found a treasure map in that desk and then stumbled upon a hidden staircase behind that desk and an old grandfather clock with a mysterious letter inside. Then, she would have put on her jaunty hat and jumped into her roadster with Ren and solved the whole deal.
Wasn't rape, but Aranza in PSMA willingly gave herself to her bf's father, though it was unknown to her at the time. Esteban still wanted her back even after he and Aranza discovered that little tidbit but it was Aranza that was more than a little weirded out about it. How do you go there?
I do get this sick feeling that the absolute outrage and actions to possibly destroy Sev for Allie's sake when the news comes out will be done by Ren or E-man ( hopefully not to their demise).I mean---can't you just see E-man once he knows get those wild eyes and want to tear Sev's head off...literally?? But it shouldn't be them, not in this show. Most galans go through their own hell of some kind or hardship and understand better what the woman they love is going through as heartache progresses. Cris is a nice guy, but he's gotten off pretty well in this one. When things have gone bad for Allie, he steps aside or others have been there for her over and over again. Worse thing he has had is having Val hanging around. I mean, gee, Ren even had to lose his mother who he adored!!
If they make Cris go all puppy dog, though I get how this could just mentally destroy him, if we buy into he and Allie coming out of this as a couple and whole, I want him to be massively confrontational with his father in some manner and champion Allie. I don't want it left to someone else...really I don't.
We had such hopes for this TN at the start, and the acting has been sublime, sub stories, some have been good. But I hate when a TN starts down its wrap up slide and the story and wraps up go to h*** in a handbasket. Then after all those episodes, you're just left with a let down feeling and a bad memory of the show.
Daisynjay
Although I agree with you susanlynn that Renato has been there for Aldonza and certainly deserves only the best, Sylvia's unexpected pairing with Tomas has thrown me for a loop. While I like the couple, I did think Renato would have a change of heart and end up with Silvia. That may not be likely now.
Is Renato the male equivalent of Adelina? Was his purpose to protect others and in essence, give up his personal happiness to do so? I hope he ends up happy. And alive.
daisy, we did have high hopes initially! I am hoping the writers have some surprises for us - and happy ones. Time will tell.
Diana
Vivi at 1:08, you are so right! Lola is always so stubborn and headstrong, I wish she'd gone ahead and reported Simoneta missing! Maybe she'll finally go to report it and her timing will be perfect to speed along Sev's unmasking! Also wonder how the audience felt about El Manatial!
Tofie, that's right! Don Tonio DIDN'T want to shake Cris's hand! Uuuf!
How about this one, which harks back to an old Peter Lorre horror flick called "The Beast With Five Fingers": in Sev's final bout of phantom pain, the ghost of his missing arm comes back and starts crawling towards his neck, the fingers outstretched to strangle him. Sev dies writhing in terror, as the camera pulls away to show that there was nothing choking him except his imagination.
J in O
However, Sev knew what he was doing when he raped Aldonza. He knew this would make it impossible for her and Cris to have a proper relationship if she didn't commit suicide first, which may have been what he was hoping for.
Diana! Is Renato the male equivalent of Adelina? Was his purpose to protect others and in essence, give up his personal happiness to do so? Yes, that would be what he was for if they kill him off! Again, let it not be so!
Hey guys. It has come up before but what do you all think if they let PJ inflict near-fatal harm upon Sev once he learns about the rape and then he is either defrocked or gives the Priesthood up himself because of having taken the law into his own hands? It would be even more dramatic if he literally takes the collar off as Sev is giving him another one of those insincere confessions, goes around the partition and chokes him to death!
No. No! How about he's out of town in his new position and finds out about the rape and there is a dramatic scene where he rips off the collar and takes off for SL, confronts and nearly kills Sev with the Law arriving just in time to take the nearly dead Sev into custody!
How do y'all feel about a time jump which shows the now "civilian" (non-Priest) Jeronimo having married a changed a redeemed Cande and the whole hee haw gang living happily in Santa Lucia?
(Because then it looks like I'm stalking the comments when I answer too fast.)
Just wondered why they brought or changed the nature of PJ and Cande's relationship with that stunning statement, "you would have been the love of my life. . ." I hope I have not insulted anyone's religious sensibilities, NEVER intend that but there's this whole theme of PJ being a crusader for justice and a sleuth and detective to protect his niece and get to the bottom of the disastrous end to his brother and sister in laws lives and the "death" of Roberta's baby. This contrasts with the theme of his being humbled before the Bishop for the sin of pride in thinking he could take the law into his own hands. It just feels like there may be a deeper instinct to protect his family which may even over ride his love of the Church (NOT of God) and drive him to make Sev pay with his own hands. He will, of course, be contrite afterwards, not regretting having apprehended/injured Sev but no longer able to wear the collar. Not saying I want it to happen but, hey? Like I say, I don't trust these folk! If they don't understand what true love is between a man and a woman, why should they understand the Love of The Church?
I think it has to be someone outside her familial circle. I even throw out E-man because now that is her blood. So yeah, it leaves our obvious Ren ( NO NO NO ), maybe even Pato since he's shown he's not afraid to stick his neck out, but I kind of would love to see Don A surprise us. We think he came in the plot for nothing now, but maybe we get him suddenly show up at the end with a "Hey, forgot about me? This is for my sister..." and hopefully just beats the living crap out of him or drags up by a horse. Now, there's a good way for Sevto go? Poetic justice for almost killing Solitario too.
Can't rule out Val or Cande though. Both women would have nothing to lose in their way of thinking: one had her own Mis Plans go up in smoke and if Cande loses Cris, she'll just lose it. Don't think she'll just slink off to a convent.
Daisynjay
Maybe Sev will kill Vile before someone else kills him. That would rob Uriel and Irma of their grandchild, so that seems unlikely.
For Sev to die in a fire would suit me, too. He gets a preview of Hell and it's poetic justice at the same time.
How about Humberto giving him a lethal injection, then taking his packed suitcases to the airport for the next flight to the Brazilian rainforest or something?
Anybody know what the penalty is in Mexico if a person kills another to defend someone in imminent danger of being killed. Say Don Tonio for some reason goes to ES say, to see Eman one more time and happens upon Sev the Dev about to do either Eman or Aldonza in and he takes Sev out. If that would exonerate him, that would be a good ending as well.
Have the writers completely forgotten about Sleeping Beauty Adriano?
Sev is getting increasingly careless and crazy. I do not think that he will go to jail. We all want to see him off the face of the earth, don't we ? Just me ?
Probably. Was the only reason for all that to get Flavia back to SL and the gun away from Sev?
I'm also fine, for plots sake, with PJ removing his collar for a day to whoop some Severiano ass. At what point can PJ not take anymore? He knows Aldonza is in peril, Severiano tried to kill him, tattletaled to the bishop to leave Aldonza vulnerable, Roberta killed his brother and Severiano is involved and Severiano stole Emanuel. That's enough for any human and that is what he knows. What happens when he discovers Severiano raped his only living relative whom he adores? Or he stumbles on an attack in progress by the beast? Twiddle his thumbs and whistle or KILL the mutha.
But, I'm of the mind Cris will do daddy in.
I think I would actually be ok with a Cande redemption in a convent. I don't want a full redemption where she gets to live a full life with her son and grandchildren.
And you are right. Lola would SO confront Sev which could be dangerous for her life. Don Tonio could should Sev to death in defense of Lola or. . .
Hey! How about Don Camilo shoot Sev in defense of Lola, Donnie or Eman? Terribly things have happened when they send him off to the store. Maybe one of these times he'll circle back, catch Sev in the act of some atrocity and send that devil straight to hell!
Or, *gasp* what if the police actually catch Sev in the act of committing said atrocity and take him out. That way no family or friends have to dirty their hands with his toxic blood! Yes!
And now, for a bit more positive speculation:
That last scene when Sev was paying Javier, I only saw it in slo mo when I was trying to understand a bit of dialogue but Jacinto walked by, pointedly looked at the money changing hands and then when both Javier and Jacinto were out of the screen shot, Sev gave them the strangest look. The first thing that came in my mind was that Javier is perhaps undercover. The way he was looking around Simoneta's house and his pocketing the pearls. Maybe he took that and some other things with her DNA on it -- hairbrushes, toothbrushes -- and gave it to the police.
Or. If he's not undercover Jacinto may be aware of Sev's plan to shadow (pun intended) Aldonza and he'll tell Eman. Remember, Jacinto and others banded together under Mel's leadership to spring Eman from jail. They must still be friends and allies of Eman!
What do y'all think? (I know I should have done more housework today but I'm a little excited: my daughter flew in to surprise me on my birthday (Tuesday) and we've got a whole week to hang out and she gets to see this show I've been carrying on about. She helped me to understand La Fea way back in the day when my decades-old Spanish was on life support. She's at a wedding right now so that's why I'm hanging so tough. Tomorrow we're off to see Grandma, aunties, uncles and cousins so I'll won't be buggin' y'all as much!)
I don't believe Sev will survive. I do not think he will die by any of the main characters hands but will die either in the midst of trying to harm someone else (likely by the police) or by his own hand.
It's been mentioned that of late Sev has come unhinged, and I totally agree. A creeping insanity seems to be replacing the evil logic and sneakiness so rampant earlier. His confrontation of Aldonza in church was the beginning.
I'm not quite sure his death will bring any comfort or peace. His specter will continue to haunt Aldonza in her heart, mind and dreams.
I see no redemption for Cande and suspect she will have an isolated existence.
Diana
I am so grateful to the patio for the concern and the distraction.
I heard about a "Tia lover" in another novela. I hope the audience (in furture novelas) isn't being worked toward a half sibling hook up. Or has it already happened? What's happened here is bad enough! Yuck!
Who is your new avatar? No time to read all the comments if you already said.
Everything you are saying makes complete sense. Normally I would still stick to the "but they kissed" argument, then I remembered the cousins that slept together on another TN I watch.
It would be an interesting twist if Vero turned out to be Sev's daughter by way of DonAnt's sister that Sev raped. The show never told us what happened to her parents, or did it? Just that she is an orphan?
The closest degree of blood relations I've seen ever end up together were first cousins who weren't raised together. That was, uh, Curls and Sniffles (does anyone remember their real names?) on Manana es Para Siempre.
Andres (Marcelo Cordoba) on Amar sin Limites was, in fact, affectionately known as a "tialoving abuelokiller." The "tia" in question was his uncle's wife, I believe? And the abuelo was not his own.
And hi to everyone...sorry, patio peeps, I've been working on some stuff for the blog, which I'm really loving, but it leaves me with less time for chatting :(
I'm into 3s at the moment. :-D
Vile is feeling impowered, since she and "IT" did the yucky down the hall from his wife's bedroom. In her twisted mind she will have cris and the ES. Sev will get it for her. Stupid little addle brained twit.
Cande-"I've always suspected his story, but I never knew the details or wanted to be involved with such disturbing events." REALLY CANDELA!!!!!! She has really out done herself. WHAT ABOUT THE DISTURBING "EVEVT" When she thought it was a good idea to steal a womans new born
And then have her(the woman) believe the child died at birth. Wasn't that her brillant Idea? I think she has selective memory when it comes to her own faults. Poor dear, her brain slipped out of joint when she took a tumble down the stairs.
Cris is going to have to be stronge and turn his parents loose. It will rip his heart out, but he and aldonza and Eman can heal together,
And lola. When this nightmare is over.
Thank you Miss Lila.
These recapers are awesome, the best storytellers ever, they are some really fun cool people.
Enjoy, and welcome, :-D:-D:-D:-D:-D
Sara, thank you for thursday's recap, it was so much fun. I hope your kitty gets better, I'm sending you a hug from here.
By the way, I just noticed that I have La Duda on Netflix.
Jarocha
(I've been enjoying YNCELH, but I'm always behind so I don't really comment. I'm glad you let us all know how good it was.)
Thank you, Jarocha Y'all here at the patio have made me feel a lot better about watching the vile one cavort with the devil!
Welcome, Marianne! I would have to go back and look but seems like when Vero just came on the scene she told Eman her mother was off in Europe with her new beau or husband. Maybe our dear Vivi with the most impressive memory it's been my pleasure to meet will weigh in before I can go back and look!
When Don Tonio found out that Eman was Sev's son, he would definitely have pulled their coats whether he saw the kiss or not. Don Tonio knew they were novios: he was with them when Eman formally asked Vero to be his novia. So nope. Not likely! Anybody have any idea what episode they entered the story?
Sara...Still sending good vibrations for Kitty)))))).
Sara..your father is a cutie pie. He looks a little like my elementary boyfriend.
Wow...I coined "tialoving abuelokiller" in reference to my telenovio Marcelo. Does anyone remember the name of that tn ? Until that telenovela, I had only seen him as Fernando Colunga's right hand man in Alborado. I am a big fan of guaypo Marcelo, but I prefer to see him as a good guy.
Hello and welcome to Marianne. I love that name. I almost chose it for my daughter Julianne.
I also wanted to respond to this: "I wonder if a weekend discussion post for further discussion of a completed novela ever happens." It's not unheard of :) I miss the days when there used to be a Cristina special the Monday after a show ended, so there was all that behind-the-scenes stuff to discuss. We might just have to do a random patio reunion.
Susanlynn, "tialoving abuelokiller" is still what we call Marcelo in my house. That name just stuck to him so well! That was Amar sin Limites...the show that seemed to go on forever.
Jarocha
Welcome, Marianne! It was the lovely Lila who recalled Vero's sad tale of the neglectful mother in Europe, which is exactly correct. ITA that Don Tonio would have flipped and said something once he learned Eman was Sever's kid had Vero also been Sever's.
Lila- Have a blast with your family!
Sara- Ugh! So sorry, amiga. Now that he's in the hands of the experts, I'm sure he'll be doing well soon.
Jarocha
First, Sara, so glad the kitty's ailment seems to be diagnosed and hopefully now on the mend. Bless the little furball. Sending lots of positive thoughts your way.
Second, welcome Marianne!! Interesting idea on Vero, but the only reason I sort of would be uncomfortable with that surprise is because of that goodbye kiss they really played up. But with this story, who knows what they may pull out of their hats these last weeks.
You know, there are usually a small number of select people it almost becomes predictable will be key in the main villain's demise--or we have some disaster hit them to take them out. Can't remember the last villain who had such a long, long, long list of people that are available for the deed. You all have brought up some interesting ideas. Wouldn't it be fun to have a TN version of Murder on the Orient Express...everyone gets to take a turn?? And just because I still love my horse idea, Solitario can give the last good kick to push him over a cliff or falls never to be found.
Daisynjay
My fear right now is that we have 11 episodes left and it looks like a lot of the questions I had about the past will never be addressed. But I guess it doesn't matter because I don't think the writers even knew. I'm still more interested in Ray and Rob and Cande and Padre's stories. Though they seemed to think Cande and Padre's story was malleable.
Daisynjay
We hear nothing about any of her and Adelina's relatives.
There is exactly one flashback indicating that Severiano's grandfather lost El Santuario to Raimundo's grandfather in a poker game. No info about the year this happened or the ages of their children. Neither Severiano nor Candela have siblings and Candela only has the one cousin, Humberto. This would probably have been a substantially longer (and not necessarily better) story if they or Raimundo had more family.
If they were allowed to talk about this I'm sure Alejandra Barros and Alexis Ayala (who turns 50 today) would tell us their opinions of these characters' backstories. It's an exercise we did in acting and directing classes in college.
I would loved to have had you give us the exact words Sev told Vile as he gave her the whorish boot. It was classic. Regrettably, I've deleted the episode from my crowded DVR.
Only half way through the comments and I had a light-bulb moment. What if Don Antonio is the runaway lover of Marga. He seems to be about the right age and if indeed, he did leave SL to make his fame and fortune--he certainly did. Too much to hope for at this point.
Can't wait for Sim/Viv to be identified--by anyone!
Sara--Hope Mr. Kitty pulls through his present condition. Lots of hugs and petting for you and him.
Anita: I would like Don Antonio to be Marga's long last love!
Anita, that is a direct quote when Sev told Vile she had confirmed for him that she was a prostituta not worth the air she breathed. Busy today but if I get a chance I will go back an give you a little more of his kick to the curb speech. Anyone else with time and access to the recording is welcome to do so as well. Not only will I be out of town but my computer is on the fritz so I may not get to it until tomorrow.
Y'all have a good day and keep the ball rolling!
This makes me happier than it should. I guess I should hate Sev more than I hate Val, but I find her behavior so.damn.irritating.
It's like Mari is hellashelle's nemesis. Val is mine. There's a throat that needs multiple punches.
P.s. Some happier news : I just read an interview with Diana Gabaldon saying that she has considered writing a three volume prequel to Outlander about Jamie's parents and his uncles Colum and Dougal. I finished book 4 and will go to the library tomorrow for book 5.
susanlynn, "Addiction affects everyone surrounding the addicted person". Very sad and very true.
Diana
Susanlynn - I keep telling myself that I'm going to read Outlander again, but I'm wrapped up in the Spanish historical novel right now. It would make a great Telenovela... If they would take a risk on novelas de época again.
Words seem inadequate but know that I am praying for you and your family.
I believe that we reunite with our fur children in the afterlife as they are indeed part of our families.
I know you are in pain. Bless you for giving Mr. Kitty love, affection and a loving home. May God and time ease your sorrow.
Many hugs, Diana
You must return to Outlander. Check out some of the dizens of videos set to music made from scenes on YouTube....wowee woo..whataman.
The vet has a cow farm and Mr Kitty is being buried there. His "sister" is also buried there. (She passed away in 2005.)
