Antes Muerta Que Lichita #3 Thursday 9/24/15

Hello everyone! Its been a while so hopefully I am not too rusty. Please feel free to add anything I missed. Feedback is always appreciated...Lets jump right in:

We began with Lichita flopping in the water in a bright red dress which no one seems to notice (this party must be that good huh). As she descends further into the pool we get a sudden flashback to her childhood. Growing up Lichita's favorite story was Alice in Wonderland. Her father had high hopes for her to fulfill the dreams he never accomplished. So starting from an early age he made sure Lichita studied often instead of reading childhood stories (Ignacio is like my mother who made me do extra book reports and math homework instead of watching tv...sigh). Anyway, all that hard work paid off because she grew up and graduated university. On the other-hand, at age 15 her little sister, Magos, surprised the family with her pregnancy.

Braulio and Lichita started together at Iconika. They were young and hopeful then. Lichita wanted to become Creative Director like her boss but those dreams were never realized. She was also unlucky in love. Braulio was Lichita's first love but nothing ever happened. Instead they became best friends.

We are interrupted from this sad take as Roberto saves a drowning Lichita. He begrudgingly performs mouth to mouth and after seeing that she was alive he leaves her hacking away (Oh no he didnt!). Lucky for him he quickly grew a conscious and took her to a more comfortable place to recover.

Meanwhile, Augusto is furious at Sandra for trying to start a "war" (he is mad that she made a remark to move the supermarket "Mas"presentation for another day). She angrily replies that they all have been working hard and there just so much. This does not phase Augusto because in his mind Sandra can do it all...so she better. Augusto gets called to make his big speech but I do not think he is saying anything important. Sandra rolls her eyes (and I too) as Augusto praises his "amor". I find her flashing him the heart sign and beauty pageant wave hilarious. Apparently Augusto has a son who is studying in the US and also a daughter that he had to be reminded of to mention (from his wife - there must be a story there since he rushed through that).

Roberto and Lichita are now in a hotel room (probably Chuchette's room knowing his shady ways) drying off. He tells Lichita to remove her clothing (her mind goes to the gutter) so that she does not get sick. However, she relaxes when he tells her to change in the other room. Making small talk, Lichita tries to mention that they have crossed paths recently but he doesn't remember and or care as he rushes to dry his clothes. She notices that he seems to be in a rush to get back to the party and he confirms saying he has important business to attend to. Roberto wants to know why she went into the pool when she is a horrible swimmer. This sets Lichita into a frenzy muttering about a disc. Roberto being the hero (albeit a dubious one) surprises her with the disc she risked her life for. He wants to know why this disc was so important to her which leaves Lichita at loss for words.

Back at the Gutiérrez household everyone is worrying over Lichita. Elsa thinks she is working late due to some assignment. Magos believes Lichita is with some handsome "galan". The dad dismisses Magos saying that is not like Lichita. Magos is all "you never know when your a little drunk/tipsy.

Perhaps Magos is onto something because next we see Roberto providing Lichita alcohol and she seems to be getting very comfortable. Not only did he save her disc but her backpack too. She tells him that she was working on a very important account (Mas) for Iconika. Roberto ears are perked and wants to here her ideas, if of course SHE is willing to bounce ideas off him. Lichita is surprised that he actually wants to listen to her. He lays it on thick by picking this time to remember her name (no not Lichita, but Alicia) which elates her further. Some time passes and Lichita is clearly tipsy, if not drunk. She insists on more alcohol and even Roberto has the decency to tell her she has had enough. She doesn't heed his advise, and Ms. Loose Lips starts praising Roberto by calling him her knight, angel and prince.

Next Morning

Lichita wakes up beside Roberto who professes his love for her and that she is the person he has been looking for all along. Lichita confides that because of him her life will be different. Unfortunately for Lichita this is just a dream and she wakes up on the couch to find a missing Roberto. Upon realizing the time, she rushes to get ready clearly late for the job that she was fired from (A+ for persistence).

The Gutiérrez household finds it strange that Lichita did not come home. Elsa could not get in contact with Lichita's phone (we find out that her battery died). Ignancio is ready to walk out and report her missing to the police (A- for effort but C for practicality...dude you cannot see!). Elsa calms him down and tells him to wait a little while longer...maybe they will here from her.

Lichita finally arrives to work and interrupts the meeting flustered and in the same unflattering red dress. It does not help that she cannot find the report that is the "perfect campaign". Sandra is quick to burst her bubble. They already have a perfect campaign for the project that was being presented before she interrupted the meeting. A confused Lichita, finally notices the projection with her campaign slogan. She also takes this time to find Roberto making a weird face in the corner (for some reason his face reminds me of Ben Stiller model poses from Zoolander...maybe its just me..in my defense it is very late and I start to get loopy at this time). Hurt and dissapointment plasters across Lichita's face as she realizes what just happened. And just like that her dreams of getting her job back, of supporting her family vanish. Sandra tells her that she is fired and Braulio think she may be descending into crazy land like her boss. She is forced to slowly pack her things and stare down Roberto for betraying her. Without missing a beat he continues Lichita's his presentation which everyone lurves of course. Even Sandra sheds her mean girl mask and praises Roberto for his creativity.

A sad tune follows Lichita as she slowly breaks down. Her friends Brisia and Braulio both clunk down next to her unaware of her plight. Brisia is the first to notice something is not okay, but Lichita wipes her tears and announces that she WILL prove that Robert presentation was her original idea (Go girl! Crying is okay but wont change the situation you are in). Lichita marches towards her office to find the disc where she saved her work.

Lying, thiefing, no shame in his game Roberto takes this moment to confront Lichita. She is going to report what he did. Roberto tells her he will deny everything. He needs this job. Lichita spits back that he is not the only one with needs...she has been working at Iconika longer than him and she has a family to support.

And on cue....the Guiterrez family storm into the company looking for Lichita. As if the day could not get any worse. Now her family knows that she no longer works for Iconika. Lichita tries to tell everyone that it was all Roberto's fault be he escapes the confrontation leaving her looking like the crazy one.

Back at home, Lichita tries to explains everything. She did not want to tell them she was having problems at work due to the growing bills. Ignacio blames himself for everything that is happening. (I found it funny when he thinks Magos is Lichita and tries to console her. He then jumps off Magos like a hot pepper when she says she is not Lichita).

Luciana, niece of Augusto, has arrived in town. First stop Iconika where she demands to speak to her uncle. However, he does not want anything to do with her or her family (hhmmm interesting). Luciano however seems like a person who does not take no for an answer so she sits and waits. After waiting hours she throws a fit at the secretaries for not offering her anything to drink. She threatens to tell her uncle about their poor hospitality skills.

Roberto clearly has a hidden agenda. As he moves into Elias old office. He requests the names of everyone who works at the company...so that he can spy...become familiar with everyone quickly. Roberta later meets with his friend for lunch (cannot remember his name). They talk with mouths feel making it even harder to understand what they are saying. The gist: Roberto feels bad about Lichita but he could not tell her why he did what he did (he does not trust women). All his friend cares about is how she looks.

Back to the Guiterrez household, Lichita tries to tell Ximena the truth about her work life but poor girl does not understand her tia. In the end, Lichita could not break Ximena's illusions since she admires Lichita so much. Roberto thinks it is okay to call Lichita for some urgent matter. She tells him off saying she still has dignity! Hmph!!

Next frame shows Lichita dressed in cow suit singing her heart away as she tries to sell milk. She is not deterred by snobby kids and continues doing the happy dance...that is until she sees Roberto around the corner.

Dignity que?? Gulp....

That's all folks!

Thanks! Reception broke up here and I missed a lot but I did approve of Alicia's big liquid reproachful eyes. So far Roberto is a lying thieving manipulative cad. He better improve fast if he's supposed to be our galan because so far I hate him.

There is no way you are rusty! You made me smile about an episode that bothered the stew out of me. And you did is with class and sass. I would have been ranting all over the place. So much happened and you covered it with zip and distilled it all into a perfect recap.

Loved your grades for persistence and practicality and now that you mention it, that was such a Zoolander look!

Ugh. How am I supposed to like Roberto??

I loved the Vaca Feliz song and dance. This is another episode I'll have to watch again, despite the frustrating events.

Thank you so much, CeCe and welcome back!!!!

Ditto on Roberto, Jane. I don't care if he did look vaguely remorseful when he saw Lichita's family picture and thesis. He was only there in the first place to get the rest of her presentation. Grumble grumble.

It's hard to imagine what disastrous secrets could justify Roberto's behavior.

WORD!! It better be good. Right now there is NOTHING that justifies what he's done to Lichita.

Next Random thought: The whole scene with Don Augusto controlling the applause of the audience reminded me of that Bugs Bunny Cartoon "Long Haired Hare"

https://youtu.be/gt1V61SPI_w

Cece- It's so great to be reading one of your recaps again. You are fabulous as usual, not rusty at all. I haven't even seen this episode and your recap makes me feel like I have.

Many galans have started out as cads, and eventually made us root for them. I'm sure Roberto will be the same. He said he had people to support? Perhaps he's the one funding that shelter he sent that kid to the last episode.

Does Don Agusto like anyone? His wife, though pious, seems really into him. She certainly likes kissing him. But he only seems interested in her for show. Now we know he can barely remember to mention their daughter, and doesn't seem to like his niece and her part of the family. It will be interesting to get a deeper view of his life.

Cece, thank you for the wonderful recap. I really enjoyed the " grading scale" especially the "A+ for persistence"!

Roberto just keeps getting worse and worse: just another scammer; attempting to be a "white collar scammer" in this case. I wonder what his secret is. If he is to be the rehabilitated galán, it will be a long long road back to morality. At least he had a use for Chuchette's key. I was afraid Chuchette was going to show up and give Lichita hell for being in her room.

Loved how "Alicia en el país de las maravillas switched to "Alicia en el país las quesadillas" for Lichita. (" Alice in Wonderland" to Alice in Quesadillaland."

Loved Luciana, her attitude and her hot pink luggage. (I love Ingrid Martz in her over the top roles from CI to QPTR to this) I wonder why Augusto has no use for her or her "damn family". I wonder how long he will make her wait to see him.

The best part was Lichita performing in her her cow suit with the jingle: "Soy la vaca Más vaca, soy la vaca feliz" . Seems that her mom works for the "Supermercado Mås" chain. Her exuberance made me smile.

One more thing, Roberto mentioned something about "cinco años en el bote" "five years in jail" in his conversation with Grumaro.

Cece don't be silly this is awesome. Thank you

The comedic timing of this show is great, loved the cut to the dancing cow immediately after stating she had dignity. Lord that girl is all in.

Cece - thank you for the recap!

I don't like Roberto, either. He seems like a sleazy con man, which he probably is. Perhaps major redemption is on his horizon? One can only hope. Yeesh...

I have to say I am giving Roberto a little room for hope here... Yes, he scammed and stole Alicia's campaign and blackmailed her that he would deny anything she said AND he would show them the part of the DVD where she unloads on the company and management. That WAS nasty... BUT....
he took it in stride when he saved her from the pool, gave her mouth to mouth and she proceeded to unload the entire contents of her mouth in his face (mostly water from the pool, hopefully) (he mentioned this at the model apt/hotel room he took her to (boy those single shot size booze bottles were handy for him to keep her a bit out of it...)
so he has come to her rescue single-handedly when she dropped her papers and from drowning in the pool... and his face when he picked up her family picture showed me more sadness than a scamming mind working on a plan.... sort of like the nastiness of Armando / Fernando at the beginning of Betty la fea/ Fea mas bella... a heart of gold behind a lot of shell that she will have to crack through slowly.
Remember he was a poor kid/orphan and then ended up with Gumaro escaping and robbing for a living... probably how he ended up spending 5 years in prison.

I too am having a little trouble keeping up with the 'slang' of Gumaro's. it shows their true origins... and the outfits of Gumaro and Roberto are so in line with them coming from same background but Roberto is 'faking' the executive background... while when he is with Gumaro he is his real self... and Gumaro is a voice of conscience (Gumaro was laughing at poor Alicia's luck falling in the pool and then having Roberto steal her work) before he kept insisting in Roberto telling him if she was pretty.

I also liked Ingrid as Luciana here... She can do this 'spoiled rich girl' pretty well...

I laughed every time Don Nacho kept running into the wall and talking to the wall since he can't see squat.

Not sure I am buying yet Sherlyn as the lazy single mom sister... lets see if she grows into the role... Ana Torres in the Ugly Betty USA version is a tough act to follow.

Like Arath de la Torre in his work at showing the good heart inside the 'facade'. (if I am reading the character right... then again I had such a sweet spot for Armando Mendoza / Fernando Mendiola before... I am not surprised at my reaction to him.

Thank you Cece for the recap. Right on point and showed the highlites of last night.

CeCe, fresh and fun. I enjoyed your style and there was so much to love about your recap.

"...(for some reason his face reminds me of Ben Stiller model poses from Zoolander...maybe its just me..in my defense it is very late and I start to get loopy at this time)" was perfect. Yes, that little smirk with pursed lips reminds me also of Stiller's costar, Owen Wilson who is a perennial lip purser. Very funny.

Also loved "Lying, thiefing, no shame in his game Roberto".

Marta, even after reading your well stated reasons why Roberto shouldn't be loathed hated here on the patio, I am firmly entrenched in the he is no galan zone. He is responsible for Lichita losing her job and looking even more foolish (if humanely possible) in front of her colleagues.

But I loved that Lichita is not down for the count but is bouncing around in her cow suit, making lemondade out of the lemons life is continually handling her.

Jarifa, I am an Ingrid Martz fan too and chuckled at her imperious attitude. Confidence is everything, right? ;)

Diana

Marta, interesting comparison to Armando/Fernando. I never saw Betty, but it did take a good long time for us to understand why Fernando was the way he was in LFMB and who he ended up being in the end. We will have to see how this pans out.

Diana, there is something to confidence being everything. She sure has it!

Wonderful recap!

Oh I felt so bad for Lichita but I knew the minute she started telling him her idea he would steal it. But the way he just stood there while she was humiliated was awful. I don't remember Ugly Betty ever being that hurt and humiliated! Granted not supposed to be the same show but pretty close so far.

I loved her singing in the cow costume. Can't keep a good girl down!

Looks like Roberto will try to make it up to Lichi and since she needs the money I'm sure she'll take the bait.

Ingrid Martz is so funny and crazy. Her introduction should be good. I do hope Elias comes back. I like Richard Fastlicht.

Thanks, Cece. Terrific recap. You detailed so much that just flew by me.

When Gumaro asked Roberto if Lichita was attractive, Roberto thought about it a bit rather than dismissing her slouchy, dumpy, heavy eyebrow looks. He finally replied something like "she's pretty at a distance." Didn't he also propose making her his assistant? He's got some damn nerve I know and probably did that cause he knows he'll need her for more ideas, but there's a heart in there somewhere.

Sara, the Bugs Bunny clip is hilarious. Augusto certainly was channeling Bugs in orchestrating his own applause.

Niecie, I like the way you worded it.... 'there's a heart in there somewhere...'

Definitely a good guy waiting to get out but will take a lot of work!

Thanks everyone for your kind words.

Thoughts on Roberto: I hate what he did to Lichita but like Niece said I think there is a heart in there that shows itself for small moments. I do not hate him yet...I am more interested on what secrets he hides and what motivates him for acting as he does. In the story I hope he has a well thought out road to redemption. I like my galans more "rough around the edges" as opposed to Mr. Perfect (same for the ladies). Its more realistic IMO.

Don Nacho - was a hoot last night. Talking to walls, grabbing Luciana etc. Same with Augusto with him controlling the crowd. I hope we get more story between him, his wife and the extended family he hates so much.

Vivi: Well said observation about Augusto. The only thing that he likes so far his himself as far as I can tell. Everyone else seems like an afterthought.

Sara/Jarifa: I thought the Vaca Feliz jig was brave on Lichita's part. If I were in her shoes I could not have done it.

Tofie: I admire Lichita reaction to all the horrible things that happens to her. She just gets right back up and tries again. I am glad that we are speared all the tears (for now anyway). While I admire the art form of some actresses ability to cry on demand, I still prefer active solutions.

Niece: Good catch...I missed when he said he wanted to make her an assistant. Roberto sure did have a hard time answering whether Lichita was attractive or not.

Carvivlie: I too cant wait to see what Ingrid brings to this table. I also hope Elias comes back...I don't remember ever seeing this actor before but I was impressed with his first episode.

I can’t stop singing “Soy la vaca MAS vaca. Soy la feliz” ! That really was a highlight for me last night. Right on, Jarifa... the enthusiasm was infectious. (And I love the new avatar.)

I’m so in love with Maite as Lichita. She is doing such a good job. I guess I will be mentioning it daily/weekly as I did with Ernesto Laguardia in AcT.

I’m loving all the comments that are adding to Gumaro and Roberto’s lines. I didn’t catch a WORD of that conversation in the cafeteria. All I caught was “nom nom nom.”

I’m already in love with the Ingrid Martz character. Same goes for Don Augusto. Both are highly entertaining. I can’t wait to see them interact.

Marta, I loved Don Nacho talking to the walls, too. I know it can’t go on forever, but for right now I am enjoying all the schtick his surgery is creating.

Ok. The Zoolander face. I think that’s what bothered me about the whole scene. I know Roberto was technically in front of people and couldn’t let his guard down, but as a viewer I wanted to see some sort of guilt or remorse. Maybe tonight. I guess I don’t hate him, I just feel so bad for Lichita and I hate to see her pain. I want to make everything ok for her.

Comment bomb

I forgot to say that I'm really, really loving this. It's shaping up to be so very good!

I think he was sure he would have time later to apologize to her in private, but he could not stop the train he had already going full speed... he cannot give the 'board' of the company any possible hints that the campaign is not REALLY his. so he had to put a iceberg face in front of them. He did try to talk to Alicia later, but she was already so angry with him (and justifiably so of course)...
In looking at her family picture, he knows she did not lie when she said she had a family to support with her job there... so in the previews it seems/suggests he will try to hire her for 'his team' so she can continue working at the company and he will get the 'source' of more advertising ideas... (plus I still have hopes that his heart is also calling out for being fair for the wrong he already did to her to her to some extent)

Sara, I can't get her "vaca cheer" out of my head! So looking forward to tonight! (Re: avatar: their names are Wendell and Hattie)

Gracias, CeCe and welcome back! I got a kick out of the grades, especially "A+ for persistence" yep, she is definitely determined!

"Iceberg face"

Perfect description Marta!

I definitely think we are going to see Roberto wanting to hire Lichita. He may think he's an idea man, but it may turn out that they are a great idea TEAM. He's really going to have to do some serious apologizing, though.

Jarifa- Wendell and Hattie: LOVE IT!

Soy la vaca MAS vaca.....(kick step)...Soy la vaca feliiiiiiiiiiiz....

I know that it's only a movie but my heart was near breaking for Lichita last night.
This morning, I didn't feel much better. That is until I read the recap. I really do feel better and so if you call that rusty, CeCe---I can't wait until you feel like you are on par.

Last night Lichita gets knocked down and she's out---out of a job that she likes and needs. So what happens next? We see her in a cows costume singing a cow's song.
And for a lot less money I'm sure. What an attitude this young lady has. You get knocked down and you get back up and go with whatever you can to start the ball rolling again. YOU JUST HAVE TO LOVE LICHITA!

Ingrid Martz played her role to the max last night. Can't wait to see what develops with her and Roberto too. What a back stabbing trick he played on Lichita. How will he redeem himself? Well?????

It's must see tv.
the gringo

Gringo - thanks! I agree with your views on Lichita. I too wonder how Roberto will make his way towards redemption. He doesn't seem ready yet but I hope it happens sooner rather than later.

Sara - I don't know how I feel about Lichita working for Roberto. I know she is desperate for money and also to pursue her dreams of becoming creative director but. I feel like Roberto is not ready to give Lichita the full credit she deserves. Guess we will see how the story unfolds.

Hey friends,
I might miss a few minutes at the beginning of tonight's show so if I do I will say it in the recap. taking my daughter to a movie that says starts at 6:10 so I should be home by 8 but might be a few minutes late. since I don't have dvdr I won't catch what I miss... just a heads up.

I hear you, CeCe! Roberto is in a situation where he almost CAN'T give her the credit she deserves since he's playing himself off as the creative genius and to the employees at Iconika, Lichita barely exists.

Now problem Marta! The patio will have your back. (Unless it's a lot of Gumaro...then I'm useless.)

Roberto told his buddy he knows nothing about marketing and worried about being exposed. Exactly why he needs Lichita but she needs him as well. Even had she shown up with the great idea, either no one would have listened, or they would try to steal the idea themselves and push her aside or she may not have been able to present the concept convincingly enough. Yes, it is a rat bastard thing Roberto did, she should expect more of the same but together they could pull this off.

The disappointment she suffers is heartbreaking though.

Love this show and the comedian Maite.

Excellent points, tofie.

Funny that both Maite and Daniel Arenas seem better suited to comedy but they have fewer comedy credits.

Just saw my other comment. No problem, Marta.

Gosh, I don't know about Daniel Arenas. When I see him or his name in print I flash back a big ole Mime head and goofy smile filling the screen

He really was great in Amorcito Corazón. I promise.

I believe you Sara but I just can't even go there. I thank god the experience wasn't also reinforced by some olfactory trigger, would hate to retch on cue to a otherwise benign scent.

Sara - I can second Daniel Arenas was much better in amorcito corazon. I only saw few episodes but I liked what I did see of most of the cast.

Tofie- I know how you feel I was scarred by CI. I cannot watch anything by the Meija's. Lo imperdonable seemed like such a good cast but the attachment of Meija's had me running the other direction. To this day I cannot understand how mr. Meija continues to get prime spot. For whatever reason his wife novellas are popular despite the poor writing.

CeCe, even knowing of Meija's involvement I still attempted Lo Imperdonable and quit and I ain't usually a quitter of anything. Learned my lesson and after CI and knocking off the scab with TSTSNBN, done with his wife and the tripe she puts out too.

I see however we got Shutupdoris in this one.

And I feel stupid because I bailed on CI, but then for some unfathomable reason decided to recap La Gata. Talk about fool me twice...

Never again.

tofie-It's only been one episode, but I suspect I will be able to tolerate Shutupdoris because it's a comedy. Those kinds of characters in any sort of melodrama (and geez, with Mejia and Latoodle that is a stretch...their work is straight up crap) drive me bonkers.

Niecie: I'm glad you liked the Bugs Bunny clip. I can't remember if I already said that, and I'm way too lazy to scroll up to look. :D

working on recap. just missed the first 5 min, caught very end of scene at the grocery store.
