La Vecina- Highlights and Discussion #55-59 Sept. 7-11

I hope everyone is enjoying the Labor Day holiday! Here's the discussion post for this week's La Vecina.

jlk said: "I think I'm enjoying this show too much."

I say: I don't think you can enjoy a show too much :-) This certainly is entertaining!

More Quotes of Note:

Awww Fidel feels overshadowed by Simon and his rocket.

oh Edwina - just can't stop talking about Simon's rocket

I got jealous and thought "Hey I want to make myself indispensable to Antonio as well"
~jlk
Rafa's gaydar is broken, which isn't a good thing if you're gay.

She [Natalia] annoys me enough when she gets mad at him for no reason, as she usually does. I don't want to have to agree with her.

Could she convince Simón to interview him and maybe even photograph his “cohete”? (I’m not even going there! Ha ha.)

¡Sebas! You, you, you ...argh!

Thanks for getting us started off an another week, Sara! I keep looking at the clock think it MUST be time for the show, but no...still another hour to wait :(

Aww. I love this, Sara. Like I said, you're the glue :-)

Monday 9/7 Parte 1

The Refrito:
Sara says her good byes to Laura and leaves a message for Don Pedro.

Sara explains to her mother that the bank took the rent for the restaurant out of the account first. There was not enough left for the mortgage on the house. Sara only need 5 mil pesos and she will talk to Pedro about it.

Lo Nuevo
Padre V stops by the car lot where Cheo works and talks to him about Sara. Cheo is all kinds of proud of himself for getting back with Sara and forgiving her. Antonio was just playing with her. Padre V doesn’t like either of them -Cheo for being a macho idiot and Antonio for not being able to decide what he wants (and I want a gold star for NOT using profanity for Cheo.) If Cheo makes Sara suffer, he will have to answer to Padre V...as a man, not a priest! (That gets said a lot.)

Anto soaks his foot and cradles his hand. Sebas asks what hurts worse: the sliver of glass, the bite or chastisement from Sara’s uncle. Anto is more hurt by the chastisement. It bothers him that Simon thinks he’s incapable of love when he feels so much for Sara. Sebas wonders why he’s not with Sara then. Anto thinks he has more in common with Isa. Sebas thinks Anto is just looking for excuses and is a coward, but Anto disagrees. It’s not cowardice. Anto is just exercising good judgement. Sebas tells him to marry Isa and be done with it.

Padre V visits Merce. He fills her in on all the Cheo/Anto/Sara triangle gossip. Merce didn’t even know Cheo and Sara were back together.

Titina gets ready for her date with “Chebi”. She thanks her friend for covering for her and tells her all about Chebi. She over does the perfume.

Chebi comments on how good smellin’ he is. Anto offers the car for the date. He just needs to get a file out first. Sebas asks if Anto has talked to Isa. He hasn’t. Sebas encourages him to enjoy life.

Isa is not going out with Ric. He’s been busy working. Talk turns to Anto and Isa says that that is the only relationship she considers permanent. Natalia calls Sebas. He lies and tells her how tired he is and that he’s going to hit the sack early. Antonio is amazed at how easily Sebastian lies. Sebas claims to be a professional and encourages Anto to learn from him. [PISSED OFF RECAPPER ALERT. I’m now imagining a story line in which Titina and Natalia exact their revenge on this little pisher.] Sebas drives away and Bruno walks into the complex.

Bruno offers his solidarity to Anto. It wasn’t smart of Sara to tell Cheo all about her relationship with Anto. Anto wonders if there is anyone in San Gaspar who DOESN’T know his personal business.

Monday Parte 2
Cheo recaps his scene with Padre V to Roque. Cheo is thinking of proposing to Sara again, but no one in the family likes him.

Padre V and Simon discuss Sara’s love life over the phone. Sara is really the only person that can solve the problem.

Merce tells Padre V about Sara’s money troubles. Juancho the pest overhears and can’t call Cheo fast enough.

Don Pedro calls Sara. She goes out on her balcony to take his call. She asks if she can pay less this month so she can cover her mom’s house payment. Pedro agrees. He’ll come by to pick up the money. Antonio overhears it all.

Theme song!!

Juancho tells Cheo to cough up the money because it will show Sara how much he cares for her. Cheo decides to giver her the money even though it will leave him strapped for cash.

Titina arrives at the restaurant. Sebas flatters her. They order...digo...Titina asks him to order for her. She doesn’t know much about wine. No worries. Sebas will “teach her everything.” (blech.) He admits that he’s charmed by her.

Anto wonders why Sara won’t ask him for help. [And this year’s dumbass award goes to….] He wonders what he can do so Sara doesn’t turn it down. Isa calls and apologizes for not being supportive during the toxic spills.

Sebas takes Titina home and she acts odd. She admits to having a jealous brother and she just doesn’t want to deal with him if he sees her with Sebas. There’s an awkward goodbye kiss.

Quique comes to Rafa’s house and starts in about Rafa and “his” ingeniero. Rafa tries to make Quique understand that Antonio is NOT gay and is getting married (to a female.) Rafa hurts himself getting up. Quique offers to help and asks if Rafa wants him to stay. Rafa says as long as Quique trusts him, he can stay. Quique is offended that Rafa only wants him to stay if he’s quiet. Quique warns Rafa that if he ever sees the ingeniero around, he will confront him. Quique leaves in a huff [1 degree below a flounce.] Rafa wonders if Quique would be capable of confronting Anto.

Anto tells Sebas he’s got to do one last thing for Sara and then he’ll be finished with her.

Anto goes to El Molcajete and wants to talk to Sara about renegotiating a contract between Conatrol and El Molcajete. Sara asks why and Anto admits he knows about her financial woes. I don’t know what to think. He’s being honest, but it’s kind of a slap to Sara’s pride, too. To annoy me even more, Cheo shows up. Blech. He and Anto start arguing. Loudly. So loudly that Pedro hears them outside the restaurant.

Monday Parte 3
Pedro comes in as Sara is once again having to get between Anto and Cheo to keep them from fighting. Sara tells Anto to leave. She asks Pedro to have a seat and drags Cheo to another table. Cheo asks how Anto knew about her money problems. She has no idea. Cheo offers her the 5 mil pesos. She appreciates it, but she’s already taken care of the problem.

Padre V arrives back in San Dionisio in time to see Atila talking to a stranger (one of Pedro’s men.) The stranger was wondering where he could go buy something to eat. Padre warns Atila about talking to strangers. They talk about Merce. Merce was Padre V’s brother’s wife. Atila wonders if the brother was a priest and Padre V explains of course not if he was married.

Cheo badmouths Anto to Pedro. Sara explains that the two boys (really they are) have had some run ins. Pedro sternly tells Cheo that the restaurant is not the place for Cheo’s rencillas (quarrels.) Pedro tells him to think before he flies off the handle. Cheo agrees and he tries to, but when it has to do with your woman it’s hard to put up it it. He gives Pedro a chummy pat on the arm and Pedro is cara de da fuq you just do? Sara and Cheo are cara de we’re gonna die. Cheo asks “you’ve never lost your head?” Pedro says he always acts with a cool head. Sara breaks the tension by offering to get Pedro’s cash. Pedro asks what Cheo does and Cheo gives him his card explaining he’s a car dealer. Sara returns and Pedro assures her she can take whatever time she needs to make her payments. Oh, this is bad. Pedro is being way too helpful.

Anto bitches about Cheo and Pedro. Anto has a bad feeling about Pedro. Rafa brings them coffee.

Outside Anto’s office, Rafa tells Marina about how bad things have gotten with Quique. She offers to talk to Quique. Rafa gives her a big hug. Anto and Sebas come out about that time. Sebas is just being a jerk this episode. He makes a crack about Anto not getting jealous. Rafa worries about always screwing up when the Ingeniero is around.

Anto’s mom calls Natalia. She digs for info on Isa and Anto’s relationship. Then she says she wants Natalia to help plan a party to announce Isa and Anto’s engagement.

Cheo talks to...no, no….he talks AT Sara about their future. Basically, she will quit working and take care of the passel of kids he wants to have.

Padre V talks to Lazlo(?) about Atila talking to strangers. Lazlo mentions all the people that have been around lately.

Lucita calls the obispo. Padre V’s visit helped her feel better. Is there any he can recall Padre V back to San Gaspar? She entices him with remembering the Church in her will, much to the surprise of her son. The obispo says she’s putting him in a brete. He has no one to replace Padre V in San Dionisio. She’s sure some nice priest would like to go there. After she gets off the phone the son asks about the will. She just says “you know who the heir is.” He seems to think it’s him.

Monday Part 4
Sara kvetches to Rosa about Cheo the Chauvinist. Rosa asks about Anto. Sara tells her about his wanting to make a business deal with the restaurant. Rosa asks if she’ll accept the offer. Sara doesn’t really want to accept anything from Anto. She doesn’t know what to do.

Cheo crows to Roque about Sara giving him “his place” in front of Antonio. Puke. The insurance guy shows up. He and Cheo head for the office.

Natalia tells Isa about the call from Anto’s mom. Isa decides to force Anto’s hand. She calls him and tells him about the planned surprise party and engagement announcement. He would prefer something smaller and less flashy, but if it makes his mother happy he’ll go along with it. Meanwhile, Sebas gets a call on his phone. It’s Titina. On Isa’s end, Natalia asks to talk to Sebas. Anto calls out telling Sebas that Natalia wants to talk to him. Sebas hangs up with Titina quickly, but she heard Antonio’s shout out. She wonders to her girlfriend if Sebas has a girlfriend.

Cheo daydreams while the insurance guy explains the policy. Cheo signs without really reading or paying attention.

Sebas arrives at his date with Titina and overhears her talking to “Andres” he asks who that is. She asks “Who’s Natalia?” Cara de busted.

Sara goes to Antonio’s apartment. His face lights up. She wonders if his offer is still on the table.

You're sweet, Denise. I don't want to go against you...but we're all glue!

OOOO....can we be glitter glue????

Woo hoo! Gracias, Sara!

I love your "PISSED OFF RECAPPER ALERT. I’m now imagining a story line in which Titina and Natalia exact their revenge on this little pisher." The nerve of this guy!

"Anto wonders if there is anyone in San Gaspar who DOESN’T know his personal business." Um. No.

"Cheo recaps his scene with Padre V to Roque." But did he add witty asides and give himself a nickname? ;)

A helpful Pedro is never a good thing. Plus he took Cheo's business card and now Cheo's signing paperwork without looking. I'm sure there's an equation somewhere for just how bad all of that is.

"Then she says she wants Natalia to help plan a party to announce Isa and Anto’s engagement." I'm confused...haven't they already had, like, three engagement parties?

"Sara kvetches to Rosa about Cheo the Chauvinist." That's a much nicer name that what I was calling him, but it works.

Meh. I was trying to keep it classy. ;-)

Thanks, Sara! I loved this recap.
Favorite line: "Anto wonders why Sara won’t ask him for help. [And this year’s dumbass award goes to….]" Ha ha ha.
You picked out the exact two vocab terms that stood out to me too, "rencillas" and
"brete." (Stood out as in "I don't know what they mean.")
Two favorite moments in this episode:
Antonio saying," Is there anyone in San Gaspar who is not current with the details of my love life." and
the very last scene where Antonio looks like a kid on Christmas morning when he sees Sara at his door. Sara looked her cutest too. I replayed it about three times.

Seriously! He is all into her...why does he keep denying himself????????

I added both of those words to the vocab list I'm keeping for this show. If you don't mind, Denise I'm going to add the ones from your Friday recap as well.

And wow....it would have been nice if I'd actually put the definition for brete (it's a fix/jam/bind.) *facepalm*

I wonder if JDC is single. He'd make a great yerno.

Of course, Sara! I love that you're doing a vocab list.

Oh, have you guys noticed that virtually everyone on the show says, "¿Qué agradeces?" for "You're welcome"? It's unusual, right?

I had not noticed...but I will pay much closer attention now!!

Ok, confession time...I know Pablo is a bad guy, but that scene where he gave Cheo the stink eye was hilarious to me.

Also, I totally want Sebas alone by the end of this thing. He's a pretty good friend to Anto, but he's being a real jackass lately.

That's interesting about ¿Qué agradeces? Denise. Maybe it's something to do with the laid-back vibe in San Gaspar.

Which seems to be getting closer and closer to Progreso...how did that happen? Cheo can come over for lunch?

Ha! Tighten your beanie!

Sara - Yes, I really laughed when Cheo gave Pedro the "Right, Ole Buddy?" arm punch, and Pedro looked like "Uh, no."

Diva - I did notice how quickly Cheo got to the restaurant. And el Padre Vicente hit every locale in the novela in one day, I think!

Denise, that's right! Two days ago, San Dionisio was just too far to summon Padre Vicente and now all of a sudden he gets the day off and he can visit everybody? Ok...maybe all three towns are on floating islands and they've been drifting closer and closer together....

The Pedro/Cheo exchange was funny until Pedro was like "I do everything with a cool head." It really creeped me out since it made me feel like his abuse of Laura was even more cold and calculating *shudder*

I wish I could watch TNs with a more critical mind, but I can't. I just happily and blindly bump along the path they are making for me.

I kind of feel sorry for the saqueadores. Padre V tends to endear himself to people and they are loyal to him. The people of San Di are not real fond of strangers. The Padre and the citizens might be a force to be reckoned with. I can totally see them foiling plans.

Just walked in the door. Let me put on my recapping clothes (pajamas) and I'll watch and put up some highlights.

Well that was a sad episode.

Tuesday 9/8 Parte 1

I’ll try to make this quick. There might be some combining of scenes as well.

Sara arrives at Antonio’s and wants to talk to him about the offer he made. He wants to know which one--the offer to stay away from her or the offer to reinstate the contract between Conatrol and El Molcajete. Sara sort of giggles and says “the contract.” She begins to tell Antonio about all her financial obligations. Anto is rather surprised by Pedro’s “generosity.”

Sebas, or as Titina calls him “Chebi” (or as the CCs called him Chevy) didn’t like Titina asking about Natalia. He asks who Andres is, but doesn’t believe her when she says Andres is her brother. Sebas gets up and leaves. She runs after him. She swears Andres really is her brother. She wheedles the truth out of Sebas. He admits that Natalia is his girlfriend. Titina takes it in stride and says they should just live life and enjoy...no commitments. Sebas thinks Titina is worth her weight in gold. They move quickly to the wild sex stage of their relationship. Sebas’s words...not mine. My words were something to the effect of “Eeeew” and “You rat bastard!”

Over at Anto’s, he is telling Sara how impressed he is with her starting her own business. She is thrilled that someone as smart as Anto approves of what she’s doing. Now that I’m trying to recap it I’m like “Sara do you really need his approval? Or did you really mean that in the sense that you respect his opinion as a businessman...because really your plan is awful and you are up to your copete in debt. Even I can’t believe the level headed Anto is not freaking out.” Somehow their conversation turns into a break up. Anto says it’s either all or nothing. Sara is willing to go all in, but Anto isn’t. So they decide that they will only see each other when business requires it. Working relationship only.

Sara leaves and bursts into tears. Simon comes upon her bawling in the hallway. He doesn’t buy it when she says she is crying happy tears because she is finally free of Anto. Cue “Perdóname.”

Sara tells Simon about Anto and Cheo trying to help her with the 5 mil pesos. During this story, she mentions her agreement with Pedro to pay him a little less this month. Sara also explains that she and Anto will have just a business partnership. Simon asks who’s idea that was. It was Anto’s. He’s just about thinking with his head. Sara can’t help it if she’s a sentimental fool. She’ll just have to deal with it.

Anto moves his moping to the parking lot. Simon has a talk to him too. I can’t remember much of this convo. I know Anto said that Padre V was right. Anto can’t love. Simon disagreed and said that Anto was capable of loving...he was just afraid to.

Theme song happy dance!

Tuesday 9/8 Parte 2
Sebas comes home from his night with Titina and fills Anto in on the sexo salvaje (that’s not going on the vocab list) with no strings attached. Anto is all “are you sure you know what you’re doing? Sebas tells him Titina was the one who suggested it!

Titina is telling her BFF pretty much the same thing. I get the impression that Titina thinks that she can eventually snag (with an N not and H) Sebas. Oh, that never works, girlfriend. Titina and Sebas will be going out dancing later that night. Beefcake (I assume this is Andres) comes in and asks Titina to make him breakfast. Titina wants him to help her. They need to convince mom to let Titina go out. Wait. I thought he was Andres the crazy protective brother? Is it really mom who is crazy protective? Am I the only confused one?

Anto tells Sebas about the agreement with Conatrol and El Molcajete. Sebas is exasperated. Instead of closing the book on Sara, he’s just started a new chapter with her! Anto assures Sebas everything is fine. They will catch up at the office later.

[CONCENTRATED RECAP ALERT]
Bidnez stuff….the crib notes edition (Seriously. This took up a lot of time and I am not doing it justice):

Conatrol might close.

Slick Rick thinks Anto will do everything he can to keep the plant open. Anto won’t want to leave San Gaspar.

Budgets are busted.

Special police task forces are formed.

Priority is placed on the Community Outreach position.

Ric finds himself in a moral quandary (or is it ethical? I mix up those two all the time.) If he tells Pedro about the police force, Ric will still get his money. But if the plant closes, Anto comes back to the DF and ruins Ric’s plans with Isa. I think Ric finally decides to go for the cash.

Somewhere in all this business talk, Anto sends someone to take the contract for Sara to sign.

Now back to your regularly scheduled recap…
Pedro’s men see Lazlo on the road. They ask him if there is anyone that could cook for them while they are working in the area. Lazlo tells them his wife can probably do it.

Poor Sara thinks that Anto will be coming by personally to drop off the contract. She prepares a lomo mechado con ciruelas (recipe here: http://www.redextremadura.com/gastronomia/recetas/default.asp?accion=mostrar&id=20120...and it looks like it’s a Christmas recipe?) Anyhoodle, Sara wants their “goodbye” to be a nice memory for Anto. Geez. Get some communicaton skills, Sara. What the hell was that in parte 1? A pre-goodbye?

Tuesday 9/8 Parte 3
Simon’s rocket has made the news. And it’s not pretty.

Sara is crushed with the messenger arrives with the contract….just the contract. Nothing else. Sara signs it and sends the messenger on his way. Rosa tells her to cry if she wants. Sara gets quivery lippy. Every start has and end, right? Especially when there really wasn’t a start.

Turns out Sara also left a note with the contract. All I remember is she said that Anto was the most wonderful thing that’s ever happened to her.

Edwina goes to visit Magda and learns about the newspaper article. Poor Edwina! She didn’t know about the “off the record” rule and now the whole world knows about Simon’s rocket and how much his wife supported his dream. She goes to talk to Simon.

Simon visits his wife’s grave and asks her why people can’t be trusted. In a series of flashbacks we learn that he was once applied to be a part of an important aeronautics team/project/whatever in Toulouse, France (because when I think aeronautics I think France?) He asks his wife to get better so if he’s chosen they can go. She doesn’t think she’ll live that long, but makes him promise to take the opportunity and go of they offer it to him. She passes away and he never made it to the final selection interview so they give the position to someone else. Back in the present he apologizes to his wife’s grave. He never should have told anyone else about his rocket.

Ric tells Pedro about the community outreach project being Anto’s priority. Pedro thinks it’s more like Sara is Anto’s priority. Pedro tells Ric about the near fight and about Cheo.

Isa visits Anto’s mom (Ema.) At first Ema is bothered that Nat blabbed, but she perks up when Isa gives her the go ahead for the party. Anto even approves. Isa wants a big huge EVENT. Ric calls, but Isa ignores it.

Cigala agrees to cook for Pedro’s men. 50 pesos per person. Soup, rice, beans.

Edwina tearfully explains that she really didn’t mean to talk about his rocket so much. She begs him to forgive her. He just walks away. Bruno comes out and tells her to wait until Simon calms down before talking to him again.

Fin

ay Sara thanks so much for the recaps, that was a sad couple of episodes but you made it better
even though I was so sad for Edwina when she tried to apologize and Simon rejected her, reading your line about it made me laugh, also loved "(because when I think aeronautics I think France?)"

I had a fam member get really sick last wk and between taking care of them and basically just uselessly worrying about them, I got behind, even on La Vecina which I'm usually pretty good at keeping up on, and now I'm coming down w/something so I may not be here for a while, but thanks all you guys for last wk, and for what's coming, in advance, and I'll look forward to catching up.

Oh sneaky! I hope your family member is feeling better. :-( And I hope you are taking care of yourself!

We look forward to seeing you again when you are able to hang out!

Sneaky - So glad to hear from you! Get better soon. If you don't comment again soon we're gonna worry.

Sara - Thanks SO MUCH for this recap. My son decided to switch cable providers, and I missed La Vecina for the first time. I was semi-traumitized.

"Sebas comes home from his night with Titina and fills Anto in on the sexo salvaje (that’s not going on the vocab list)" Ha ha. Darn. How could I miss this? Sebas, the horn dog, is not worthy of sweet Natalia!

I'm kind of glad not to have seen the part where Simón refuses to talk to Edwina. Ouch, that hurts.

Thanks again. (I only hope I can figure out this new cable system before I miss another episode. )

"if you don't comment again soon were gonna worry"

I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I also worry when someone is absent.

So I hope jlk is ok!

"semi-traumatized"

Only semi? Earlier this year during the run of Quiero Amarte, the cable went out during the recording. My husband had to break the news to me. It was not a good day. Hubs hates when the cable or power goes out when one of the TNs is on. He knows I will be cranky.

I hope you get things figured out for today's episode!

Simon and Edwina truly broke my heart yesterday. I hope things are a little lighter today.

Thank you for the Tuesday recap, Sara. I'm getting my hankie ready.

I snickered maliciously at "the CCs called him Chevy." Because I'm calling him names right along with you. "Rat Bastard" is a good start.

Good assessment of Sara's business problems/judgment/admiration of Antonio. And sure, he's a good businessman, but...he's an engineer. He's probably great when it comes to engineery things, but that doesn't mean he'd automatically be brilliant at running a restaurant. He'd just know things like profits are too low, costs are too high.

OK, Beefcake is Andres. Got it. Took them long enough to say!

I knew that damn reporter was going to make a mess of things...even though he's probably closer to the truth about the relationship than Edwina or Simon. I looked it up and there is totally an aerospace complex in Toulouse! But Simon's backstory broke my heart. I feel awful for him and Edwina both.

sneaky two shoes, good vibes to you and your family member.

Denise, my eyes are popping out over the cable switch! My husband knows that kind of thing needs to be scheduled very carefully!

Really? In Tolouse? Wow. I had no idea!

See. Not a trash TV habit. It's educational!

Can't wait to see what Emma has planned for Isabel, it ain't gonna be pretty. You don't mess with a mom's baby boy.

I must have been picking up your vibes, Vario! I'm watching now and I was just thinking I would not want to be on Ema's bad side!

Wednesday 9/9 Parte 1

Short (I hope) and quick (hope) and lots of combined scenes.

Sebas notes that Anto is bummed out. He offers to cancel his dancing date with Titina and have a drink with Anto. Anto tells his friend not to worry about it.

Sebas runs into Cheo at the elevator. Cheo tells Sebas to pass along a macho aggressive mesage to Anto. Sebas tells Cheo that Sara and Anto have nothing to do with each other. Cheo fires back with an eso te lo crea tú abuela (Go tell your grandmother that BS story.)

Once he gets to Sara’s Cheo channels his inner school girl. He asks Sara to tell him how much he missed her. Simon excuses himself (I’m about to puke too, dude.)

Edwina cries to Magda. Magda comforts her….Fidel, not so much. Edwina tried to face her mistake and apologize to Simon, but Simon didn’t listen. That just shows that Simon doesn’t appreciate or care about Edwina. Shut up, Fidel.

Antonio calls Isa’s cell. His mom picks up. Isa must have left it at Ema’s. Anto tells him mom to send the chauffeur over to Isa’s and return the phone. He hangs up and has a flashback of good times with Sara. I vaguely remember the coffee cup, but it’s attached to the drunken ballet night...so why the seatbelt memory?

Sebas goes to pick up Titina. Her brothers are imposing. I caught Andrés and Julian(?). I didn’t catch the third brother’s name, but the actor was in DQTQTQ. Sebas is given the third degree and told to have Titina back by 11:30. After he and Titina leave, the brothers comment that Sebas wasn’t so bad.

Ric calls Isa and talks her into going out. He’ll pick her up in 30 minutes. Isa waits outside her apartment for him. They make out in plain sight….of Ema. She came to return the phone, not the chauffeur.

Anto tries to call Isa’s house phone and gets the answering machine. He decides to go out and get a drink. Of course he sees Cheo and Sara out in the courtyard when he goes outside. And to make matters worse, Cheo is proposing again and kissing Sara. Anto walks away.

Sara actually turns Cheo down. She doesn’t want to feel pressured. Cheo says that any other woman would be thrilled to have a marriage proposal. He pouts that Sara sees it as “pressure.”

Anto runs into Bruno on his way out of the complex gate. Bruno notes his pouty demeanor. Anto has another flashback. When Bruno sees Cheo and Sara together he understands Antonio’s mood. Javi teases Bruno that it’s now “Antonio” and not “Señorito.”

Wednesday 9/9 Parte 2
Ema attempts to follow Isa and Ric, but loses their trail.

Eduardo has a conversation with Guillermo about business. What I gathered: Eduardo got that contract and he might get another contract for a project in the north. But he needs more capital. Guillermo thinks it will be a good investment. Unfortunately Eduardo doesn’t have the money right now and they can’t exactly split the investment 50/50. Guillermo says he’ll front Eduardo the cash. This can’t be good. I’m still getting that sketchy vibe from Guillermo.

That’s not all. When Ema hears of Eduardo and Guillermo’s plans, she realizes she can’t really “out” Isa because that would ruin Eduardo’s business with Gui. That would mean financial ruin for Eduardo and Ema.

Nacho tells (what is that woman’s name that helps in the fonda?) that he saw a lawyer. The lawyer thinks that they can keep Berenice the shrew from taking everything from Nachito. I think. Anto shows up and talks to Nachito about the problems at the plant among other things. It’s bad and the plant may close. Nachito thinks Anto needs to tell the employees about that possibility so they aren’t taken by surprise. Anto isn’t sure. He doesn’t want to them to worry. Nacho asks him to at least think about it.

Wow. Sebas can’t dance. Titina wants to maybe go somewhere else *ifyouknowhwatImean*, but Sebas tells her they don’t have time. She has to be back by 11:30. The decide to eat each other’s faces at their booth in the club. Literally. The next day, Sebas ends up with a hard to conceal bite on his lip. Anto tells him to tell everyone it’s a fuego (fever blister.)

Pedro’s men are still digging. Pedro tells them to be careful. The police aren’t as busy as they thought.

Apparently Cheo insisted that Sara keep the ring. But they aren’t engaged. Sara grumbles about Cheo wanting her to stay home and be a housewife. Then she perks up and mentions that Anto thought she was an entrepreneurial woman. Simon comes out of his bedroom and gripes about Sara talking about Antonio. Simon is cranky. Bruno tells Sara about the article and Edwina’s accidental bean spillage.

Cheo’s boss asks about the insurance. I guess with the savings he wants to buy better cars? Whatever it is, it’s good and they may be able to expand the lot.

Anto gets in touch with Isa at home. She thinks she’s lost her cell phone, but is happy to hear it’s at Ema’s.

Ema avoids telling Eduardo about Isa.

Wednesday 9/9 Parte 3
Marina talks to Quique. Quique needs to stop being jealous. Quique is very important to Rafa. Rafa is just a very discreet person. If Quique keeps pitching his fits, Rafa is going to get tired of it and he will leave. Quique just wants Marina to confirm his suspicions. Don’t secretaries keep their bosses secrets? Marina takes offense. First of all, secretaries don’t do that and second of all Rafa is her friend not her boss. She sticks Quique with the check.

Ema pokes around on Isa’s phone and finds all the calls from “Rita.” She uses her own phone to call the number. Ric picks up and Ema asks who is speaking. He tells her. She remembers seeing Ric when the Anto was missing during epiodes 1-5ish.

Bruno goes to the bank to see Edwina. She isn’t there. She called in sick for the day.

Isa calls Ema about leaving her cell phone. Can she come pick it up? Ema will be there waiting for her….like a spider waits for her prey.

Edwina mopes in bed, reads her aeronautics book and thinks about the day Simon had a rocket with her name on it.

Outside, Bruno runs into Laura. They talk about Padre V and the projects he had planned. She was to teach adult literacy classes and Bruno was supposed to teach about hydroponic gardening. They don’t see why they have to wait until Padre V gets back. They can organize the classes now. Bruno will talk to Rodobaldo about using the parroquia.

Marina notices the “fuego” on Sebas’s lip. Titina calls him. Marina overhears him talking about Titina’s role in the “fuego.”

Bruno tries to talk to Simon about Edwina. Simon doesn’t want to talk about her.

Laura comes to see Sara and asks how it’s going. Business hasn’t really improved, but Sara has the contract with Conatrol now. Laura wonders if Sara and Anto will be able to keep it strictly professional. Laura and Sara look over the menu and Laura talks about the regional recipes she was just looking at (featuring amaranth and garbanzos.)

Marina reports her conversation with Quique to Rafa. Rafa is going to forgive him.

Wednesday 9/9 Parte 4>
Quique is haggling for a big flower arrangement. He wants it delivered to Conatrol. He asks his friend to help him compose the card. His friend suggests “I can’t live without you”, which Quique dismisses as trillado (trite.) So his friend tries again with “a flower in water lasts only a few days, but our love will last forever. Quique dismisses this as well (and says he now understands why his friend is single.) Quique comes up with something using capullito de alelí (little sweet pea bud) and siempre pensando en ti. I probably didn’t really get the who gist of it, but the sound effect makes me think “corny.” And I assume this this flower arrangement and card is bound to end up in the wrong hands.

Isa excitedly calls a caterer to talk about setting up an event for around 100 people. Ema thought bubbles that Isa certainly seems excited. Maybe the thing with Ric is just a fling. Anto had one. Ema decides she can’t accuse the daughter of Guillermo Cisneros of anything. She has more to lose. Isa hangs up. Rick calls and Isa takes the call. They plan to meet. Isa makes her excuses to Ema and the two plan to go to the caterers tomorrow for taste testing.

Thanks, Sara! I love all the vocab you gave us.

"Once he gets to Sara’s Cheo channels his inner school girl. He asks Sara to tell him how much he missed her. Simon excuses himself (I’m about to puke too, dude.)"
Cheo - ¡Aak! (His machismo, along with his quirkiness, kind of make him a great villano though.)

So Quique is going to send Rafa flowers. Did I get the impression he was going to send them to Rafa's place of employment? That would be pretty passive/aggressive of him.

Titina's brothers were a hoot. I think I heard them say, "I think he liked us!"
I'm still mad at Sebas.

Yes. Quique is sending the flowers to Conatrol. They are sure to cause problems.

5ft- did you notice the Caprico folder earlier this week? I got a laugh out of that.

I have the hardest time with vocabulary. I never seem to be able to retain useful words and phrases, but I'll remember fuego. (which might actually come in handy since I get them all the time.)

Ouch. Sounds painful.

With new vocab, I have to repeat it a lot and hopefully conjure up a visual image, or it will slip right out of my head.

But I still remember you pointing out the term "orillar" some episodes back, probably because there is a good visual image to hang it on.

Thanks again, Sara.

And I really don't have anyone to practice with so I also don't get an opportunity to incorporate new vocabulary into my conversations.

La Vecina #58 Th 9/10/15 Part 1

Full disclosure: I wanted to get this up quickly, and I haven't read yesterday's recap and my memory of yesterday's episode is a little fuzzy…so if this is wonky, that's why! As soon as I'm done, I'll settle in for some reading :D

Magda and Fidel talk about Edwina. She didn't go to work today. Magda wants to check up on her, but Fidel would rather treat his sister like an attention-seeking toddler and just ignore her. "Who knows my sister better than me?" Seriously, Fidel?

Sebastian keeps daydreaming about Titina, and her kisses, and her teeth, when he's supposed to be working. He wants to send flowers and Marina connects him to the same florist Quique was using. They'll bring him two dozen reds and he'll deliver them himself. He jokes to Marina that when the flowers get there, they're for Antonio.

Quique arrives at the Conatrol gate, anticipating his delivery and Rafa calling to thank him.

Ricardo picks up Isa to take her to his house…lunch? Who needs lunch when they've got lust?!

Antonio's dad gets home and Ema still can't tell him what she's discovered. She pretends all she wanted to talk to him about was going on a shopping trip to Miami with Mariana for wedding wear.

Quique's beautiful, colorful arrangement arrives and security takes it to Marina. Q is sure if he received an arrangement like that, he wouldn't just forgive someone, he'd marry them!

Pedro's guy picks up lunch at Cigala and Lazlo's place. They won't be able to bring back her containers today, and they don't want Lazlo picking them up, either, so they give her money to buy more and they'll swap out every day. I'm a little concerned about getting dirty dishes back a day late. Cigala and Lazlo are a little curious about what the guy is doing…but not curious enough.

Marina brings the flowers to Antonio and says they're from Sebas. Antonio reads the card and freaks! It's just too much! What if someone read the card? He takes the flowers back to Marina and she says she didn't read the card. He tells her to toss the flowers and goes to yell at Sebas. NO, MARINA, DON'T DO IT!

Quique is still waiting for a call…instead he sees Marina throwing the flowers away. Quique and I both make the same face.

Once Antonio mentions the card on the flowers "Tonight, I want you to make me molinillo the way only you know how, tiger!" (I can find a good translation for molinillo, "whisk," but in this context, I'm guessing it's more like "let's have some rather athletic sexy times.") Sebastian is sure the florist messed up the order, plus he wanted roses and that's not what arrived. Now the roses are here and the guys are confused.

Ric's apartment isn't a total disaster, but maybe not as swanky as Isa was expecting. She was remembering the time she went to (what she considered) a less-than-savory neighborhood. Eh, whatever, they get down to what they really came here for.

The two dozen roses look more like one dozen. Sebastian finally realizes who the other flowers were for. They agree to pretend they don't know anything about the other arrangement instead of digging it out of the trash. I'm thinking it would have been kinder to call the florist, say there was a mixup, order a duplicate arrangement, put the card on it, deliver it to Rafa, AND pretend they didn't know anything about the other arrangement. Those poor flowers :(

La Vecina #58 Th 9/10/15 Part 2

Isabel has a momentary pause in the bedroom. There's a bedspread with a huge tiger on it. She's not used to being observed by wildlife when doin' the deed. She gets over it.

Antonio catches Isa as she's walking in and she tells him to call his mom--Ema's worried. She snarks to Natalia about Ric's apartment being ok, but OMG the tiger bedspread, har, har! She can never trade him in for Antonio. Damnit, Ric! Do a better decorating job next time! At least for now, Isa can't seem to break up with him.

Ema pretends she's just worried about Antonio's dangerous job. She does a terrible job of pretending to be happy about the engagement announcement. She hands the phone off to Eduardo and he notices her face…he wonders if Antonio said something to his mother to upset her.

Cheo arrives at El Molcajete after closing while Sara is working on a spreadsheet for the Conatrol agreement. When she gets up to get Cheo a drink, he sees it and flips out.

The partnership between Eduardo and Isa's dad is going great. Eduardo encourages Antonio not to work so hard that he neglects himself

Sebastian's bouquet has magically expanded to look like 2 dozen. Antonio tosses him the car keys and says he'll take a taxi.

Sara explains she needed the money. Cheo accuses her of humiliating him. He tosses "the DF incident" in her face yet again--"You didn't stop him from taking advantage of you then!" Sara is tired of hearing about this. She wants to give back the engagement ring, but Cheo just wants her to understand HIS feelings…and since they're stupid macho feelings based on the idea that somehow he owns her, I don't really care. It's apparently all her fault that he's feeling insecure and he didn't "used to" be like this. If he's going to keep doubting her, they can't build a future together, especially if his "love" isn't enough…and she's not sure hers is.

Antonio is finally going home and Quique has been waiting for him. He begs Antonio not to take his man! Rafa is all he has! Antonio is going to go home after this job is done. Please, leave Rafa alone! Swear it, and you'll never hear from me again! Since Antonio can't get an explanation in, he gives his word. He tries to shake hands on it, but no, Quique knows with a matter so serious, only a pinky swear will do. Quique runs off into the night and Antonio wonders "Why do these things keep happening to me?"

Ema feels guilty for not telling Antonio that Isa is cheating on him, but heaven forbid she ruin the partnership.

Titina is determined to have her wicked way with Sebastian and one of those (hopefully de-thorned) roses. He's ticklish and tries to get away, but she throws him onto the bed.

Antonio is restless. And not a ninja. He scales Sara's balcony in his pajamas and slippers (not OSHA recommended!) and walks in the open balcony door into her room. Whose dream is this? Sara thinks it's hers. They kiss and he asks why he can't forget her…she asks herself the same question every day. More kissing and we see that it's Antonio's fantasy, rudely interrupted by a pat on the back from Sebastian. Antonio admits he was thinking about Sara.

La Vecina #58 Th 9/10/15 Part 3

Sara gets up for a glass of milk. Or possibly some other non-dairy beverage. She ponders Cheo and her doubts about him and then sees the open balcony door. Conveniently, Sebas is telling Antonio to just go after Sara already and quit being stupid. "What if it's not love?" He can't imagine himself in love with someone "like that"…Sara wonders what the hell he means by that and remembers Cheo saying Antonio just used her. Well, screw that! I'd still rather have an affair with Antonio than spend even five minutes with Cheo, much less marry that creep! I hate that she wanted to have sex with him and now she's doubting that.

Simon and Bruno meet with some farmers and they bring up the newspaper article. Simon denies being the crazy who's trying to build a rocket. He's pissed at Edwina and refuses to talk to Bruno about her.

Magda finally calls Edwina, who lies about going to work today. Fidel thinks this means he was right. Magda doesn't look so sure.

Antonio and Sara are in the parking lot at the same time the next morning. Sara ignores his "Hey, neighbor!" and drives off angrily. Chepe fills Sebastian in before he gets into Antonio's car.

Sara is teary driving to work and convincing herself that Antonio was just using her. But it wasn't just sex for her and now she feels stupid. I just want to reach through the TV and fix this, but I don't know how. Lock the two of them in a room? Have Cheo killed off? Publish pictures of Isa and Ric on the Internet?

Cheo whines to Roque that he's lost Sara. He found out about the contract and got upset. Roque sagely advises that if Cheo can't trust Sara, he should break up with her. "And let that guy have her?" Just shut up, Cheo!

Antonio tells Sebastian about his encounter with Quique. Sebastian laughs about Sebastian and his two love triangles. He can't quit laughing about Antonio, The Heartbreaker of San Gaspar.

Marina takes a call from Quique and passes it to Rafa. They make small talk and Rafa wants to talk more later, but Quique tells him about last night's talk with Antonio. Rafa is furious. He tells Marina what Quique did and she tries to calm him down.

Antonio thinks it's time to talk to Rafa. Sebastian warns him not to hurt his feelings. He's a really responsible guy and good at his job. Antonio just wants him to clear things up with Quique. As if THAT's possible! He summons Rafa to his office. Marina tells him to stay calm.

Sebastian leaves Rafa and Antonio alone to talk, but Rafa can't get started. All he says is he needs the afternoon off to deal with some personal business. Antonio thinks he's going to deal with Quique so he makes the excuse that he just wanted Rafa to come with him to the cienaga…but that's ok, he'll ask Sebastian instead. Rafa should definitely take the afternoon off.

Cigala hands over the day's lunch and gets the dirty dishes from the previous day. She tries to give back the money since she borrowed dishware from her friend, but Pedro's dude tells them to keep it and buy themselves a new set anyway so they can return the borrowed stuff. As for what they're doing out there…uh, they're "explorers"…uh, exploring…nature. Cigala and Lazlo do their bit--he tries to pocket the money, but she takes it from him, she counts it wandering into the house and listing things off, and Lazlo repeats what she's saying until she tells him to stop it.

Sebastian is dying to know how the meeting went. He agrees it was good not to bring it up if it seems like Rafa is already dealing with it. Antonio has a dinner with the secretary of the environment (I think) and wants Sebastian to go with him, so Sebas is going to have to cancel tonight's date with Titina. They're going to Las Margaritas (home of the first boot-knocking of Ric and Isa).

La Vecina #58 Th 9/10/15 Part 4

Cheo calls Sara to whine and swear he'll try harder. He wants to take her to dinner…Sara tries to beg off, she's got so much to do…but she agrees to meet him. At Las Margaritas. Cheo plans to get her drunk, get a cabin and then "show her she'll never have another man like me." I sincerely hope she never has another man like you, Cheo! I wish nobody ever had another man like you!

Titina is disappointed that their date is cancelled, but wonders if Sebastian is telling the truth.

Cheo's boss keeps him from leaving--there's something about some sales they need to discuss.

Rafa meets Quique. With a box of his stuff. It's over.

Sara is arriving at Las Margaritas when the assistant to the Secretary of the Environment recognizes her from the day after the spill. He introduces her as Antonio's assistant and they assume she's joining them for dinner. Cara de "Oh, crap, how do I get out of this one!" As soon as they walk in, everyone who knows better has to play along.

Rafa lays into Quique for not listening to him, for being distrusting. It's gone too far. It's over. Quique holds back the tears, but he has one more question…Did you ever love me? Rafa says he did, but he's sad that wasn't enough for Quique to trust him. Quique asks about the flowers, but Rafa has no idea what he's talking about. "Then it was him! He had them thrown away out of jealousy!" Rafa's angry again, because as far as he knows that's just crazy talk. Plus, he's not Quique's property. Their relationship didn't give Quique the right to behave like that. He's disappointed in Quique. Quique takes his box and leaves, not before pausing to give Rafa one last, tortured look.

End of episode :(

Sara, Gracias por the Wednesday recap!

Ugh...Cheo. Act like a grown man! Neither his macho antics nor his whining does a thing for me. "I’m about to puke too, dude." Too right!

Titina's brothers were kind of funny, though not as threatening as she made them out to be. Uh, until they find out about Natalia, anyway, and then, there is nowhere Sebastian can hide.

"I’m still getting that sketchy vibe from Guillermo." Me too. The way he talked during that phone call. It wasn't like he was happy about the expansion so much as "Heh, heh, go ahead, dig yourself a hole, buddy...." I don't know if it's deliberate, but I don't trust him.

"Anto tells him to tell everyone it’s a fuego (fever blister.)" Ok, thank you for explaining that, because I wasn't sure what he was talking about!

"Ema pokes around on Isa’s phone and finds all the calls from “Rita.” She uses her own phone to call the number." That was slick. I have to give her props for thinking to do that. But after that, I've been nothing but disappointed in her.

"Thinks about the day Simon had a rocket with her name on it." heh, heh...dirty! But also, awwwwwww :(

Denise...I'm mad at Sebas, too. But I've sort of given up on him. When Natalia's ready for revenge, I'll be cheering her on.

sara...oh, no, I totally missed the Caprico folder :(

Diva, thanks for the great recap. I have to agree with all of your asides.

"Antonio is restless. And not a ninja. He scales Sara's balcony in his pajamas and slippers (not OSHA recommended!) and walks in the open balcony door into her room."
Ha ha. Well said.
I have such mixed feelings about when they tease us with these dream sequences. I feel cheated, but I love them at the same time.

ProSara crying while driving. This is hard to do. I know, I've tried it.

Thank you for your sparkly, glittery recap!

“so if this is wonky” NEVER! Your recaps are always perfect

“NO, MARINA, DON'T DO IT!” / “Quique takes his box and leaves, not before pausing to give Rafa one last, tortured look.” I'm really not looking forward to watching this. Poor Quique!

“Damnit, Ric! Do a better decorating job next time!" Right?? How is he ever supposed to win her if his taste is so gauche and low-class?

“and since they're stupid macho feelings based on the idea that somehow he owns her, I don't really care.” WORD. I don't care either. Go away, Cheo.

“I'd still rather have an affair with Antonio than spend even five minutes with Cheo, much less marry that creep!” WORD Part Deux.

“I sincerely hope she never has another man like you, Cheo! I wish nobody ever had another man like you!” WORD Chapter 3. The revenge of the Jackass.

Terrific recap 5ft, gracias

(Remembering the fallen on September 11, 2001)

La Vecina, Friday, 9/11 Part 1

New stuff.
The Secretary of the “medio ambiente” (environment) is very impressed with Sara’s abilities and her charms. She recommends the almond mole as a great dish, typical of the region.
Anto excuses himself, and Sara follows. They have a “what are we gonna do about this situation?” talk. How can Sara keep up the role of Anto’s assistant?
She is to say as little as possible and then make an excuse to get away.
Anto: “After all, lying comes easily to you.”
Sara: “Oh really? Who’s the one who said he loved me, and then told his best friend that he couldn’t really love someone ‘like that’?”

Titina stalks Sebas at the restaurant, and confirms that he was telling the truth about having to work.

Rafa calls Marina who tells him about the trashed floral arrangement. Rafa is struck by the thought that Quique sent him flowers.

Back at the business dinner, Anto and Secretary discuss the reduction of contaminants in the regions waterways. Sara talks up Anto’s contribution to the success of Conatrol’s efforts. Secretary and his assistant leave and Titina appears. “Hola, Cheby!” Cara de Oh Jeez on Sebas.

San Dionisio:
El Padre Vicente is asking Laslo, Cigala and Atila about their food business and about the “exploradores.” Atila asks what an explorador is, and the padre gives us a PSA regarding taking care of the environment. Some cute physical comedy from Cigala follows.

Sebas lays into Titina for spying on him and trying to pass off her appearance as a coincidence. She says, “If you don’t believe me, that’s your problem!” and leaves with a cara de “Dang, that was a close one!” Sebas runs after her.
Sara asks Anto, “Who’s that?” “A friend of Sebas’.” “Ah, so he also got him a local girl to amuse himself for the time being!” “You’re being unfair.”

Sebas says he’s sorry for doubting Titina. She pulls the false rage card and leaves just as we see Cheo walk by and into the restaurant.

Sara says to Antonio that she never wanted to hurt him on purpose. He never wanted to hurt her either. He said what he did b/c he doesn’t understand what he is feeling. (Antonio hushes Sara by touching/stroking her lips...) Mmmmm, oh yeah, back to the story.

Cheo discovers them and yells, “Imbécil! and goes for Antonio. Sebas and security detain Cheo after some tussling.

At the police station, Anto says he will not level charges against Cheo, and Sara thanks him for this. “I’m doing it for you, not for him.”

Simón and Bruno arrive at the “comandancia” where Sebas brings them up to speed. Sebas doesn’t know who is crazier – Cheo or Anto for not pressing charges.

Anto is telling Sara that she is a person who is so special to him that...
Simón walks in and interrupts the mood, actually yelling at both of them.
Anto doesn’t take this lying down for once and tells Simón to get more info before making an unfair judgement. Bruno really steps up and tells Simón that he’s taking out his frustrations on innocent people.

Sara goes in to see Cheo. Why does he act like that?! He promised not to act without thinking anymore! What does she expect when he sees her with “ese tipo” looking all romantic? “Our meeting was totally a coincidence.” “I don’t believe you.”

La Vecina, Friday Part 2

(Intro song – diggin’ it.)

Bruno exits the police station and overhears Sebas telling Anto that Anto shouldn’t have let Cheo off so easy after Cheo broke into Anto’s apartment like a lowly delinquent. Bruno is floored. He shakes hands with the two guys and then leaves as Fidel arrives.

Inside Sara asks Simón about Antonio. “Se fue.” Fidel approaches.” The owner of the restaurant just wants damages and does not want to press criminal charges.” Sara looks relieved.

Mini scene wherein Vicente is awakened by the sound of trucks passing by. He is perplexed, but goes back to la la land.

Cheo is out of jail. Bruno warns that this is the last time they are springing him from a “lío” (problem) of his own making. Cheo: “Hey, ‘ni que fuera para tanto’ (What’s the big deal?). What’s done is done. Since you’re all in a bad mood, I’ll just be going.”

Next day Isabel calls Antonio. He didn’t answer her calls last night because his battery ran out during the dinner with the Secretary. He’s in a bad mood b/c of troubles with the vecinos as usual. On top of that he had a run in with the boyfriend of his assistant.
Isabel: “Rafa is your assistant, right?”
Anto: “Er, yes, that’s right. His boyfriend, Quique is jealous of me. Don’t spread this around.”
Isabel immediately tells Natalia all about it.

Sara greets Anto as he leaves the parking lot for work, but he ignores her gesture. Sebas explains, “He’s just done, ya know?”
Cheo rings Sara. He has the dough to pay back Simón and Bruno. That’s nice, she says. Why so abrupt? , he wants to know. Why do you think? I’ve hardly slept!
Roque has lent Cheo the money to pay what he owes to Bruno and Simón and he’s fed up with always bailing out Cheo. He expects his money in two weeks this time around (next payday).

Isabel and Natalia are laughing about Antonio’s love triangle in San Gaspar. (If they only knew it was two love triangles!) Isabel is sure that she has come out the winner with Antonio’s vecina. Natalia says they should go to S.G. to confirm if this is true.
Isabel: “You just want to check up on Sebastian to see if he has caught San Gasparitis!”
Natalia: “I just want to be with him.”

Edwina remembers the painful scene where Simón states that he never wants to see her again. (Man, I’m having a hard time finding redeeming qualities in Simón lately.) Edwina tells herself she’s been moping around long enough.

Simón remembers “falling” for Edwina and how sweet and supportive she was and is. He smiles, then frowns.

Natalia interrogates Sebas by phone. “Have you met anyone interesting?”
Sebas: “What are you driving at, Nati?”
Marina and Anto observe and laugh. “Good thing it’s not a video-call,” says Marina.”He’d have a hard time explaining that bite on his lip!”
Anto: “Don’t worry, he has an explanation for everything.”
Marina runs interference and gives Sebas a pretext for getting off the phone with Nat. and then with Titina.

La Vecina, Friday Part 3

Bruno and Rodobaldo are discussing “fútbol” strategies. Rodo says, “Remember, there are no small opponents.” Then they discuss getting on with el Padre V.’s pet projects of community literacy and hydroponic gardening. The Padre will be so pleased when he sees these being carried out!

Simón stops by Edwina’s, but gets no answer to his knocking and ringing. A passerby says Edwina hasn’t been seen around for several days. He tries to “brincar la barda”(jump the fence), but our “chaparro”(shorty) has no luck.

Marina has done a “torta” run, and brings these to Sebas and Anto in the latter’s office. She’s going to get lunch at El Molcajete since the “convenio”(eating agreement) is back on. (I wonder what the details of the convenio would be.)
Nati calls. Sebas lies to her. Titina calls. Sebas blows her off.
Anto: “Do you ever get tired of lying?”
Sebas: “What do you expect me to do? Women are so persistent!
I’m just having a good time. You, on the other hand, fell in love.”

Comandancia – Quintín say to Fidel, “Nothing much to report – just a fire at Aguacate 32” “Yikes, that’s Edwina’s house!”

Titina wonders out loud to her friend if Sebas is really going out to the marshland, or if this was just a pretext to get her off his back. Hmmm. She calls Pepe and gets Sebas’ address “so she can drop off a package for him.”

It was Simón who called the fire dept.. Edwina could be in trouble! She hasn’t been heard from for three days. The “bomberos” will break down the doors. Fidel himself takes a couple of practice swings, and just when he’s going for a real one, Edwina comes running up. He embraces her desperately relieved. Simón smiles.

Nacho, Pepe, Rafa and Nelson are sitting at the Nachos y Cuatachos café telling jokes, such as:

“Daddy, is it true that there are places in Africa where the husband doesn’t get to know his wife until they’re married?”
“That’s everywhere, Son.” (Pffffft!)
Document server guy comes up and hands Nacho an order to appear in family court or STTE.
Nacho says, “Let the judge live with my wife for one week, and then we’ll talk. I’m pretty sure he’ll rule in my favor!” Nacho signs with a fake name.

Scene of the “fire.” Simón is told to not call in any more false alarms. He says he was worried. He asks to speak with Edwina “a solas.” Fidel acts like he doesn’t know what to make of it.

Cheo shows up at El Molcajete. Why is Sara so cold to him?
“I don’t know if I want to continue being a couple.” (Drum beats.)

Simón says to Edwina that he now understands that it wasn’t entirely her fault that his life was turned upside down, and that he has found it in his heart to forgive her. She replies, “Uh, thank you. Now, if you don’t mind, I’m on my lunch hour and I have to get back to work.” (Bravo, Edwina!) Simón with cara de “What just happened?”
Fidel asks Edwina what’s going on, but she refuses to discuss the matter.

Sara to Cheo: “You haven’t changed and I’m not doing this anymore.”
Cheo: “By force ‘ni los zapatos entran’.”(By force you can’t even get shoes on you.)
Sara returns the ring Cheo gave her.

Cue music.

Gracias, Denise! Thanks for all the vocab. I still need to update the list.

I'm glad Simon forgave Edwina, but really he was a jerk about it. He didn't even let her explain.

I'll drop by later with more.

Denise, I agree about the dream sequences...I'm always disappointed when someone wakes up. I keep waiting for the one where it's not a dream.

Sara, maybe if Pedro takes out Cheo and then someone else takes out Pedro....

Variopinta, oh my, that's a lot of mental images!

Denise, thank you for the Friday recap!

Daaaaaang, Titina the stalker. It's a good thing Sebas doesn't have a bunny.

I'm so pissed nobody pressed charges on Cheo. And that Fidel didn't just decide to hold him overnight to teach him a lesson.

"He promised not to act without thinking anymore!" And she believed him? How many times has he "promised" already? I'm glad she gave the ring back. I hope it sticks this time!

"Marina runs interference and gives Sebas a pretext for getting off the phone with Nat. and then with Titina." It was funny, but then I felt bad for finding it funny, 'cause Natalia doesn't deserve this.

"I wonder what the details of the convenio would be." I've been thinking about that, too, and I guess Conatrol is paying for all or some portion of their employees' charges there? Maybe in exchange for a discount?

"Document server guy comes up and hands Nacho an order to appear in family court or STTE." I felt sorry for Nacho, trying to laugh it all off.

"Bravo, Edwina!" Hell yeah! He doesn't get to be a jerk like that and have her come running back to him!

As much as I hate it when someone wakes up, I do like that we still get smoochies and romance even though our couple is apart.

Could someone please explain why I keep getting a Greg Brady vibe from Cheo's looks?

I looked up Greg Brady, and I think Cheo has both the hair and the eyebrows...and that "aw, c'mon" facial expression when he's whining.

Ah ha! Yes! Those eyebrows!

Thanks, Sara and Diva :-)

Sara - Cheo does have a Greg Brady look, especially when they're working their puppy dog expressions.

Yeah, I have a love/hate relationship with the dream sequences too. Sometimes they are the best part of the episode.

Diva - Sure, Cheo should be called on one of these assaults, but this way Antonio earned some points with ProSara (I think she looked really grateful to Anto), and she wasn't feeling all sorry for Cheo.

(Antonio hushes Sara by touching/stroking her lips...) Mmmmm, oh yeah, back to the story.

How did I miss this line the first time, Denise?????

Between La Vecina and Muchacha Italiana, I'm getting my swoony fix. ;-)

Sara - I know! That was the best scene, right?

Diva - I just got your bunny comment! Good one. (I'm a little slow on the uptake, let's face it.) So Sebas has put himself in the exact situation that he said he was going to avoid.

I'm working on the post for this week. Anyone want to recap?

I can do Friday.

Tuesday works better for me this week, unless someone else needs it.

Woot! Thanks!

I'm looking forward to another good week. I really like this show.

Sneaky- hope you are well!

Haven't seen much of jlk. Hope you're OK.

Ok I'm back and everybody's well and the sun is shining (sorta) and the sky is a bluish shade of grey and all is right with the world - new lease on life stuff here.
So, Sara I can try to recap Monday - hopefully, fingers crossed.

---
And thanks so much Sara and Diva and Denise for the recaps; I'm still smiling over some of the lines even though this wk has been kind of a downer

----
re Sebas - Since I saw him blow off both women with the same attitude/lack of care, I'm getting the idea that he's not serious about Natalia even, I now think he's just dating her to have someone to date and she's really serious about him.

---
Padre V rolling over and going back to sleep after hearing the trucks was frustrating but probably realistic, nobody wants to figure out what's going on when they're half asleep.

---
Diva ITA about Fidel keeping Cheo - he seems to have a lot of discretion there, he could keep Bruno overnight but not Cheo? pshaw

---
Is that signing a fake name thing going to come back to bite Nacho?

sneaky 2 shoes! Good to hear from you! I was so upset at Fidel for abusing his authority for a stinkin' futbol game, but when it comes to knocking some sense into Cheo, he just lets him go with a fine paid and clearly, no lesson learned.

Sneaky! Great to hear from you and to know you're feeling better :-)
