Weekend Discussion: Unlikely Couples

Who's your favorite unlikely couple from past novelas?

Back in 2003 Univision had a lot of them and held a poll.  The winning couple by a landslide was Martin and Princesa from Rebeca:

For those who didn't see it, Martin Garcia (Pablo Montero) was the headwaiter in an antro while Princesa Izaguirre (Gaby Espino) was a spoiled trust-fund brat.  They met accidentally when he drove through a puddle and splashed her tight white dress.  From that moment their Swept Away-style relationship became an audience favorite.  The actors' chemistry was great and they were serious fun to watch.  This became the best part of this series and eventually Princesa earned redemption because she came to love Martin.

My other favorite was Cinthia and Efrain in La Que No Podia Amar:

Definitely a Lady Chatterley vibe for those two,  However, it didn't end the same way.

Who's your favorite unlikely couple?

Comments:
Nerdy Tomás and social climber Alicia from LFMB. The nerd's love was the only thing that could save her in the end. Funny but poignant in its own way.

Beto and Constanza from Un Gancho al Corazón. They were definitely an unlikely couple that stole the spotlight from the main romantic couple of the show.

Jarocha

I haven't seen a lot of tn's but my favorite couple is Lucia and Willy from Amorcito Corazon. He the flirty, womanizer from a somewhat poor family and she a nun-to-be from an educated, middle class family. They were my favorite part of the whole show.

I’m having a bit of conflict on this because I’ve always thought Victoria (Daniela Romo) and Fernando (Gabriel Soto) in Sortilegio were a very unlikely couple, NOT because their age difference, but because Fernando always had such a “this ain’t happen’n” look on his face in their love scenes. But now that I’m watching Muchacha Italiana, I think Fedrica (Nailea Norvid) and Dante (Salvador Pineda) are giving them a run for their money! In their cases I’m thinking, “this can’t be happen’n!”

Jarocha, I agree with your pick, if fact, Beto not only stole the spotlight from the romantic leads, he stole the spotlight in the entire show!!! Such fond memories of Gancho.

Jarocha and Sandy,

You took the words right out of my mouth. I have yet to see another romance as sizzlin' as that between Coni and Beto in Un Gancho Al Corazón or another couple quite so unlikely.

Carlos

Ok don't go for the tomatoes, but my fave unlikely couple were Santa and Humberto from Santa Diabla
I know, I know the show went off the rails but it was so much crazy fun
She was his fake wife and he tried to have her first husband killed but I was actually rooting for them
So they at least had chemistry

Here's another vote for Beto and Connie. Best couple ever. They were hilarious. From that same show, I'd also add space cadet Ximena and playboy Rolu.

Another mismatched couple I enjoyed was spoiled, rich, mean girl Ilitia and no nonsense cop Brandon from Llena de Amor. There's even a quote about them on the sidebar about him cuffing her to a urinal.

Oh, I also loved main couple Ale and Rafa in Dinero, and all the fun adventures they'd have together, and they were certainly two people you would never match together.

Hmm well LQVR was not much of a favorite for me but Josefina and Dimitrio ( Osvaldo Bonavides) were an unlikely couple for me when Dim was still a stinking uncaring spoiled brat only looking for pleasure. Things of course took a different course later.

Also in Lo Imperdonable , Emi and Nancy was a huge "QTH" moment for me when it happened.

A "me too" comment. Yes, favorite couple Beto and Constanza from Gancho. But Ximena and Rolu close runnerups. Both delightful. And unlikely.

Yes, Beto and Connie. Ximena and Rolu next as Judy noted.

Diana

Here are a couple of unlikely second-stringers, both from Un Refugio Para el Amor. (It recently finished rebroadcasting and am pleased to report it was as good -- or even better -- the second time around than the first, thanks to the wonderful recaps and comments that went along with it.)

Hanna and Lorenzo - she, the rich, pampered daughter of toxic parents and he, the poor, uneducated but hard-working and appealing son of caring parents. We thought from the moment they laid eyes on each other, early in the tn, that they were goners for each other.

Conny and Oscar - she, the independent, single mother with two adult children and he, the (much?) younger bachelor with no children meet, he's smitten and off on the chase to get her to say yes to his attentions. They were a cute couple to watch, with her shyness and reluctance to be with him for real and his determination to make her his for real.

Oooo...how could I forget.....secondary characters, but primo love-making.

"Patricio Picaso et al" and "Aj..ente Smeeth et al" in Reina de Corazones. There was a LOT of Hot Monkey Love going on between the two of them. Again, this was a case of a younger, devious but oh, so attractive (but much taller) man and an attractive, older, cold, workaholic woman. Man, did he ever start her engine. (He kinda turned my engine on, too.)

Anita- Smith and El Supremo Pat were quite the mismatched pair. I think the height difference is what really got me. But he certainly brought out a passion in her that no one else got to see.

I agree with Daniela Romo & Gabriel Soto in Sortilegio, mainly because she is a good actress & he stinks. Imagine a novela with him & Blanca Soto!!!!

Also, Fernando Colunga & all of them, I want him all to myself.

Lizard with ANYONE!!!!
