Yo No Creo En Los Hombres, Capitulo 48, Thu 09/16/2015: It’s a hard day’s night and it’s not over yet…

Ursula admits that her fortune is still intact and takes great pleasure in pointing out that this means that every time Ivana thought she had something on them (and by “them” she means “her”), she was very, very wrong. Ivana wants to know (as do we all) WTH with all this madness then?!

Ursula claims she just wants Dan to build his family with her. Ivana threatens to tell Mal and Dan what’s up, but Ursula counters by telling her that MD is still in love with Dan and will forgive him everything if they find out Ursula made all of this up. She exits stage right and we see that she was bluffing hard when she smiles, relieved, in response to Ivana’s despairing cry that “No! That can’t happen!” Later, Ursula tells Arango that she believes that Ivana believes that she started this roller coaster ride to hook her up with Dan…meaning we still don’t really know why the devil she’s doing any of this. Meanwhile, Ivana takes all this in over the piano with a finger of scotch and the awesome Gerry. As she’s wallowing in the horror show that is her life, she basically reveals what’s driving her: She hates her mom. Or rather she hates that everyone compares her to her mom…and (she believes) they think she comes up short. She swears that one day they’ll look at her and see a beautiful, slim, successful woman with a loving man at her side…and a child. For her, this will mean that she’s not a failure as a woman. By the time Dan gets home, she’s regained her focus. She doesn’t reveal what happened with his mom, but she does reveal that she knows (suspects) that he had Jacinto burn down MD’s tailor shop. She applauds his cunning, pretending that she thinks he did it to make MD feel totally vulnerable so she’d sell the baby more readily.

After the surprise party, Doris tells Ari what happened at the Bustamante house and declares that she will find a way to prove Mal-de-la-Cabeza was framing Clara. Ari doesn’t seem particularly distraught by the news, but he does share that he found out Mal’s dad committed suicide and she saw the whole thing. Doris is super shocked. Later, Mal calls Ari to warn him that MD let the cat out of the bad about their affair. Ari responds by saying he knows she killed her father. Mal is almost struck as dumb as she thought Ari was, but he clarifies: When she pulled the gun on him and threatened to kill him, she said “you wouldn’t be the first.” The tiniest bit of digging revealed the story about her dad’s death and he thinks the comment and incident are more closely related than she would have everyone believe. Maleny hangs up and practically turns into that little girl before our very eyes, whispering that she didn’t kill her dad and fighting tears. A little later, though, she’s all woman as she tries to remind Arango of their make out session at the hotel. They’re about to kiss when Ursula interrupts. Mal leaves and Ursula tells Arango that she had to admit the truth to Ivana because she found out they’re not broke.

Meanwhile, Doris confronts Orlando about his drunkenness the night before. He doesn’t remember anything, so Doris decides to refresh his memory by planting a kiss on his surprised lips. He’s shocked. Flustered and surprised by her own actions, she claims she was returning the drunken kiss he stole last night. She looks like she's having trouble not pressing him up against the nearest wall to feel him up, but she just tells him that maybe next time he gets smashed, this crazy moment will serve as a lesson.

MD was all set to ignore Alma and Maleny, but Isela convinces her that Claudio will bring the full weight of the law down on her head if she breaks her word. Meanwhile, Clara is keeping her end of the bargain and despite Leo’s confusion and hurt, she breaks it off. Afterwards, she admits to MD that she gave in to the frame up because she realized their mom had remortgaged the house to pay for the tailor shop and been robbed. She didn’t want Espy to have to deal with that and see her carted off to jail. MD follows suit: Late that night, while she's up sketching designs and Max is being supportive, offering hot drinks and cookies and company, she breaks things off with him. Just when he’s in shock and starting in on the “what?” and “why?” of it all, Leo and Clara burst in. Leo left after Clara broke up with him, but he’s  back because he's not swallowing her story and realizes that MD’s probably trying to sell the same one to Max. He knows his mom’s behind this and if Clara won’t tell him what happened, he’ll get the truth from her. He storms off, a  confused Max following. After the boys leave, Espy demands the truth. Clara finally explains the what and why of it all. Espy once again declares that goods can be regained; love can’t. The only thing they’ve been through that she won’t get over is her husband's unjust death. In light of that, she wants the girls to think long and hard before giving up their loves.

Meanwhile, Isela has used her role in the breakups to further butter up to Claudio, telling him she convinced MD to stick to the plan. He passes this on to Alma. So now, in a twisted, well, twist, Alma’s actions have made her own husband’s lover look better in her own eyes. Man, this is messed up.

Speaking of twisted, now that Orlando’s heart is smashed, Josefa has to go after fresh blood. She finds it in Fermin. She’s found all of the signs he just put up advertising his tutoring thrown around the neighborhood (It’s just as likely that she pulled them down herself, but either way…). She’s come to rub this rejection and defeat in his face, but Fermin doesn’t exactly rise to the bait, he just leaves the room. Julian, in his best moment ever, blocks her way to the door and quietly but firmly says that if she messes with anyone in his family again, he’ll tell Isela exactly what she is – or more to the point, what she isn’t. (Honestly, I have never found Julian more attractive.) Later, the little family gives the tough love PSA of the night: When you’ve been a homeless alcoholic for the past 20 years, it’s hard to just hop back into the swing of things. They’re brainstorming a little about things Fermin can do when MD comes over to talk to Julian. His mom and dad leave, and she tells him about Max. He disagrees with the break up. Claudio’s a powerful man, true, but Max is pretty powerful too and he’d definitely put his weight behind Clara to stop Claudio and Alma from sending her to juvie. MD agrees, but while the fight raged, her mom would suffer and Max's relationship with his parents would be sacrificed, which she doesn’t want.

Anyway, Leo and Max explode into their parents room, demanding the truth and brush Alma’s weak denial off without a blink. Claudio responds to Leo’s yelling with a slap and Max has to pull Leo off of their dad and hold him back! Well, this is the final straw for Claudio: he’s sending Leo to a military boarding school in the US! Leo doesn’t blink at that either. He’ll leave the house, but only to get away from them!  Mic drop, Leo out. Max follows. Alma’s aghast and then shocked when Claudio suggests she go to the US with Leo. You know, just to help him get settled in (and maybe give Claudio some time with his lover. The rat). She’s clearly appalled at the idea of leaving him, but he barely reacts; he just gets back into bed and turns off the light.

Orlando has brought Isela to his apartment to tell him the truth: was she raped, or did she just willingly sleep with Claudio? She admits that she gave it up to her boss. Out of nowhere, Orlando rages that he’ll show her. He forces her onto the bed and starts kissing her while she screams in protest. He keeps kissing her neck, but then stops. He’s remembering Josefa’s stupid threat to his ego, but when he climbs off Isela, he tells her he’s not stopping because of that: he still loves her and he would never hurt her like that. Maybe not, but he scared the crap out of her and when he tells her to get out, she does. She tells Josefa immediately and Jo-Jo grabs a knife to go take care of Orly definitively. Isela stops her, of course, telling her that all of this is her fault anyway. In any case, Isela’s going to take Claudio’s offer to put her up in an apartment, but Josefa can’t go with her.

Orlando goes to Doris’s house and confesses what he did. She almost closes the door on him, but then stops. She knows he’d never actually do something like that, and that he must be falling apart to even go as far as he did. She invites him in because he clearly needs to talk to a friend. He says what hurts most is that Isela lied to him. He could've dealt with anything, even seeing her happy with someone else. At that, Doris confirms that Isela is in fact having an affair with Claudio.

Max has taken Leo back to his apartment. They speculate on why the Morales girls have dropped them and conclude that it must be a mix of their parents’ pressure and their concern for Espy, who the local doctor has warned, has developed heart problems closely related to all of the stress. When Max is alone, he hugs his pillow and looks heart-breakingly depressed. MD calls and laments Leo’s fight with his dad. She admits to Max that she loves him, but right now she’s got to focus on her mom and sister and there’s just too much going on. Max agrees way faster than I would’ve thought, but swears that he's going to fix this situation with his parents. He asks to be able to continue helping her, even if they’re not dating.

Finally, Isela goes to MD to talk. She tells him about Orlando, including that he started to assault her, but didn’t actually do more than paw her. But she came to remind MD that Claudio’s got a lot of connections and influence and because she knows him well, she knows he won’t give up on making life a pain for MD. MD wants to know exactly why Isela thinks she knows Claudio that well. Isela revelas that she’s “in love with” Claudio.

Good stuff, Hellashelle.

Isela is becoming just as twisted as her wicked stepmother and falling for Claudio isn't going to do her any good in the long term. Orlando needs to get over her and see Doris for the great person she is.

How long before we find out whether MD is pregnant by Max?

I think Ursula was really hoping to get Ivana's fortune anyway. Why would she still insist that Danny-Boy marry her if she can't have children? Once they were married at poolside what does she do? Have her drink despite the medication and then throws her into the pool so she would drown.

Maybe she has a plan to kill Ivana before she can file for divorce.

As to Ari, at least he has a few working brain cells about Maleny. He really should get another job and move to get away from her.

Great work Hellashelle, thank you.

"and we see that she was bluffing hard" You wouldn't want to play poker with Urusla on payday.

"Ivana takes all this in over the piano with a finger of scotch and the awesome Gerry" Has it been reveled if Ursula and Ivana's mother had bad blood between them?

"She applauds his cunning" With every passing day Ivana goes slowly mad. One day I fear even Gerry cannot reach her.

Wow, wow, wow, Sophie Alexander is incredible, I got goose bumps when Maleny morphed into that little girl.

I hope MD ends her friendship with Isela, sleeping with the enemy.

Extremely angry with Orlando and not sure I will ever view him the same. Rapey is Rapey.

Claudio, that rat bastard!

Twice Josefa was left speechless, thank you Julian, and when Isela told her about the apartment but Josefa is not welcome.

Julian and Esperanza trust Max more than MD does. Something is amiss and only confirms for me MD isn't really in love with the guy. She appreciates what he has done, knows he loves her but she is lukewarm romantically. With Dan there was passion (still there) while Max is like an old sweater.

Thanks UA.

Claudio's weird, robotic expression is spreading. The only time he shows emotion is when he's exasperated/angry.

Looks like Doris is feeling a love connection faster than Orlando, which is funny because Ari's finally come/coming around. Now that she knows about Mal's past, I guess she and MD will have slightly more pity on her.

If Ursula's after Ivana's money, why did she try to kill her right after the civil wedding, knowing that she and Dan were married with the prenup? Does the money somehow come back to Ursula? Did she have something to do with Ivana's parents deaths too? Or is this some crazy revenge plot like Josefa's? I totally don't get her actions and I can't wait for the reveal.

Josefa's BSC, but she loves Isela. Not really as a good mom, obviously, but maybe like a pet and/or "friend"? She's her partner in crime, the one who has listened to her rantings all these years and is helping her live out her twisted dreams.

Thanks Tofie (I see our comments crossed). Yeah, last night made me wonder about Ursula's past with Ivana's parents as well because I cannot figure out what her motivation is for this craziness.

I would hope that Ivana doesn't actually think that Dan set that fire to force MD's hand over the (imaginary) baby, but she likes to believe things Ursula says over MD, so who knows. Yeah, Gerry's trying to pull her back from the brink, but she is definitely teetering. He'll get her back in the end though.

Gerry told Ivana no way MD would sell a child so I think Ivana is grasping at straws, believing under enough duress MD (anyone) would and why she made the leap the fire was intended to do just that. Not sure Ivana deep down believes it but it does support the twisted world she slips in and out of with increasing frequency. Gerry loves her unconditionally and it is painful when she laments no one loves her and never would and he says he does.

Hellashelle- I haven't had the chance to see this episode yet, so I doubly appreciate this fab recap.

I'm so glad Max and Leo took action, realized their parents were behind them getting dumped, and confronted them. I really like those two.

I'm sorry to read Orly lost his mind for a few seconds and assaulted Isela. That is so out of character for him, that I'm going to blame it on a blip of bad writing in the otherwise excellent script. Hopefully it served as a wakeup call to him that he needs to let go of Isela and distance himself from her. It's bringing out the worst in him.

Claudio's plan to send away both Leo and Alma, hmmmm. Jerk.

Ho-sefa does not love Isela. She is incapable of loving anyone. She stole Isela from someone for some reason we don't yet know because Isela thinks of Ho-sefa's real daughter as her sister. There was enough history there that her death was not foreseeable at the time Isela was stolen.

Isela was too young then to remember her real mother. That Julian made the threat of disclosure in last night's episode puts this in line to be the next revelation. She will be livid when she finds out.

I don't know if a pre-nup would prevent Danny-Boy from inheriting Ivana's assets in the event of her death. She set it up so he can't touch her money now. It may or may not be legal in Mexico to disinherit a surviving spouse (That's illegal in some US states). Had Ursula succeeded in killing her on the day of the poolside wedding that death would have looked very fishy. Susanna would definitely demand an investigation despite being disinherited herself (I am assuming Ivana's done that). Maleny could easily crack at the next conflict with Ursula and be the stool pigeon.

I'm also not sure if a prenup prevents Dan from inheriting if Ivana dies. It does keep him from getting her money if they divorce.

We need to at least vote Doris as president of the barrio. Julian as vp. I didn't realize he knew about Isela not being Josefa's daughter, but someone should just tell her right now instead of using the info as blackmail.

Kelly

UA - you're right, it's not love. But it's weird, because it's not like Susana, who doesn't even like Ivana much the less love her or Ursula who I feel would actually be relieved if Maleny died. As far as Honoria told us, Isela's dad dated Josefa and just kind of abandoned them both at some point.

I guess in most cases the spouse gets half of the community property, but Ivana and Daniel don't own anything together. They have separate houses and Ivana inherited hers completely. Dan may have a house or houses, but the one the Santibanez live in looks like it's Ursula's.

Mama Bear will not let her cub divorce Ivana. If she was willing to kill once she will try again.

Ivana doesn't realize that she had made an attempt on her life. The only way she will ever know this is if she or Gerry ever overhears a conversation about it. She should make out her will to say that in the event of her death under questionable circumstances Danny-Boy gets nothing.

I don't think Danny-Boy owns anything; I think it's all Ursula's, since it seems that both Danny-Boy and Maleny were minors when Hector died.

I also think that Ursula would be relieved if Maleny died. I think her potential sense of relief has also increased exponentially since the curtain went up. There is no chance in hell Max would marry her anymore. When he and Leo add up what just happened they might realize that Maleny framed Clara for the theft of their mother's jewelry. These two bros aren't stupid.

Great recap Hellashelle. Ivana is knowingly falling into every trap Ursula has for her. She is willing to believe the worst of MD because her own hurt ego keeps seeing her as her nemesis in all this, even with the family of vultures she got involved with.

I'm actually thinking there was some truth in what Ursula said, I think she wants to preserve her fortune from her lazy grown children and their poor choices for entanglements and she plans to make her fortune bigger with Ivana's money and power. Dan will enjoy Ivana's fortune instead of his family's but Maleny is still a thorn in her side now that Max is not getting back with her.

Jarocha

And Maleny is such damaged goods for non-sexual reasons that there is no chance of her marrying anyone.

I am wondering whether anything pedophilic went on between her and Claudio on the day of Hector's death and whether that was the reason for his death.

Claudio could see the situation between Alma v MD & Clara a mile away. He knows that Alma forcing Clara/MD to break up with Leo/Max would raise all sorts of alarm bells within Leo/Max and attach Leo/Max to Clara/MD even more than they were before.

Alma keeps drinking stupid juice and she's going to find herself without her husband and without her sons if she keeps on guzzling.

The problem is that Claudio is also not in favor of their boys' involvement with the Morales ladies.

And Isela got on my shit list forever by enabling that.

Ua - No getting that vibe off Claudio with regards to Mal. I really think it leans more towards Arango and Ursula getting caught at something and taking Hector out as a result.

typo - Not* getting.

It's hard for MD to demonstrate that she's good people -and makes for a great TN- because their neighborhood and neighbors aren't always on the up and up. Guilty by association.

Meanwhile, the Rat Pack surrounding Alma has only recently been detectably horrid and rarely if ever in her presence.

Thanks, Hellashelle. Appreciate your making sense of what Ursula is doing. Sounds like a good episode. I was already fighting sleep, but when Orlando started assaulting Isela I turned it off. Now I’m glad I recorded it so I can watch good guys Leo, Max, Julian, and Espy being smart and doing the right things.

I know Orlando is in shock, but forcing a kiss and later jumping Isela on the bed sure is not going to make her think that he's a better man than Claudio.

Doris, don't become Orlando's rebound girl. Wait a bit.

Thanks Hellashelle. Nicely detailed. I hope you're right about Ivana praising Dan for burning down the shop. Otherwise, she's a psycho.

I lol'd when you wrote; 'Maleny hangs up and practically turns into that little girl before our very eyes, whispering that she didn’t kill her dad and fighting tears. A little later, though, she’s all woman as she tries to remind Arango of their make out session at the hotel.'

And at; 'Julian, in his best moment ever, blocks her way to the door and quietly but firmly says that if she messes with anyone in his family again, he’ll tell Isela exactly what she is – or more to the point, what she isn’t. (Honestly, I have never found Julian more attractive.)' So funny.

I'm not surprised that the brothers figured out what MD and Clara are doing. At least now they won't be all hurt and feeling sorry for themselves. And now that they know their parents are behind it, I hope they hear what happened and figure it out.

Another part that I lol'd while I was watching was Claudio telling Alma she should go to the US with Leo. How perfect for him to get her out of his hair.

I can't wait until Dan and Maleny learn that the family isn't broke. Hoo boy!

Maley was her dad's favorite and wonder if when he died the property should have gone to her in trust or to her and Dan instead of Ursula.

Thanks guys!

If the deed was jointly in the names of the spouses, then at the very least half of it would go to Ursula. I guess it's possible that he could have left his half of the property to one or both of the kids, but houses tend to be owned by both spouses (at least if they're purchased during the marriage). If it's like Ivana's situation and Hector inherited the house, then he probably could've left it to whoever if they didn't change the deed at some point.

cathyx - yeah, Julian's hairstyle and perpetually widened eyes drive me crazy, but I like when he tells Josefa to shove it and last night he did that especially well.

I'm still not understanding Isela and what she's after or what she's doing. Is she happy to be Claudio's mistress and just live her life this way? Is she hoping that he will eventually leave Alma? Is she still just trying to meet out her mother's vengeance scheme? Is she doing this thinking that this is her only way out of poverty and her mother?

I think an opportunity presented itself for Isela and she's taking it. For her to have fallen in love with Claudio an added benefit. She has a job, he's teaching her law, she will not have Josefa hovering, she'll have a nice apartment, new wardrobe and probably betting Claudio will finally leave or get rid of his wife. She's not wrong, Claudio already suggested exile with Leo to the US.

I don't think leo is going to allow his dad to
Send him away from clara, cannot see that
Happening. Right now he can"t stand neither
One of his dumb hypocritical parents. And
Alma don't have the brain cells to think for
Herself, and to stop listening to the lies of all
Those twisted people. And she hasn't picked
Up on the signs of a cheating husband either.

I don't think shes in love with claudio she wants to get out of the barrio and he's her ticket.
