Yo No Creo En Los Hombres Cap 44, Fri Sept 11, 2015 or, "Hopes and Dreams Set Aflame"

Recap from JdesdeNYC~

As usual, some scenes combined

Drunk Maleny shows up at Max's and gets a rude awakening as she sees champagne glasses and shirtless Max. She runs pass shirtless Max to his bedroom where she sees MD covered in nothing more than a sheet. She proclaims Max or MD as a disgrace (un asco), and is shooed out by Max. Max reassures MD of their commitment to each other after she complains that Maleny will spit her venom against her to his parents. They love each other, have no commitments with others and aren't doing anything wrong, Max earnestly reminds MD.

In a lonely dark room, Ivana sits alone in her wedding dress wallowing in her misery and contemplating her next move when her aunt Susana comes in, turns on the light and busts Iva's macabre bubble. She sarcastically congratulates Iva for getting a marriage and child without paying a cent. Iva's face is now the one cracked open since her rationale for marrying Dan the slime was so transparent to Susana. "Don't try to deny it," Susana says. "That is the only reason why you would marry that bum (zángano)." Susana knows knowledge of the fact of the steal MD's baby plan gives her a chance to remain as a leech living off her niece or she will tell the press of Ivana's plans. Ivana realizes she will have to cede to her aunt if she wants her plans to stay secret. (As evil as Ivana's plan is, I feel sorry for Iva. It is obvious she's suffering from PTSD after losing her baby, in addition to her severe self-esteem issues and neither Susana or Gerry for that matter, who should be protecting her and telling her to get mental/spiritual help, have fallen down on the "be there for Ivana" job.)

Soon after Dan the shlub shows up to Ivana's room offering to "help" Ivana out of her dress since they won't have a traditional honeymoon with him carrying her over the threshold. He groans and sighs lustfully like some desperate mouth-breather- there's even spit on his lip; he moves in to kiss Iva's neck, which she rejects.  "Ni me vuelves a tocar nunca," she says firmly. "Neither will you ever touch me again."  She lets Dan know he can sleep with whoever he wants. Dan sarcastically tells Iva not to say that or he'll think she's the perfect wife. Ivana counters that if Dan doesn't keep his affairs discreet, his perfect wife will be over. He has to be discreet because he must keep up appearances that he's the storybook perfect husband. Ivana says it won't be much work for Dan to pretend he's a storybook husband since he's such a skilled liar.

MD arrives home to see Doris who wants to know all the deets on Max and MD's day together at Ivana's wedding. She confirms Dan and Iva got married but the best part for her was afterwards when she and Dan had sex. It was beautiful with wine, candles and roses, until Maleny showed up.

At casa Santibañez Maleny tells Pimp Mama Ursula her woes. She can't believe Max and that whore (tipa) MD are together. Ursula reminds Mal that she was sleeping with Max too, and she needs to shut up about seeing Max and MD together in bed or she won't be able to steal MD's baby and give it to Ivana if MD ends up pregnant.

Ivana contains her miserable honeymoon night with Dan. While Dan drools on his pillow, she cries her eyes out at her fate. The next morning Dan gets a call in Ivana's presence from Pimp Mama Ursula letting him know his seamstress and Max were together. Dan is vocally incredulous and Pimp Mama reminds him to not make a fuss in front of Ivana.

At Espie's, Espie, Doris, Clara and MD discuss Iva's wedding. MD doesn't think Iva is preggers and a little part of her wishes Iva would have jilted Dan at the altar. Espie says she understands MD's reasoning, for all her mistakes, Iva doesn't deserve a man like that in her life. MD then wishes Dan and Iva all the happiness in the world and that they'd leave her in peace. Espie says she doesn't think Dan will stop harassing her since he was tugging at her when she showed up at the church and he shows up unwanted at their house. Clara suggests MD tell Max so he can put a stop (un alto) to Dan. MD refuses and Espie says forcefully she'll talk to Dan herself then. Her forcefulness wipes out her strength, though, and all the girls start worrying about Espie as she turns white as a sheet. They tell her to rest at home a while and they'll go to the tailor shop.

Back at Ivana's, Dan has gotten dressed to leave to go to Pimp Mama's and Iva wants to know what his mom told him that made him so angry. Dan says he won't say since Iva isn't interested in his problems. The servant shows up with Susana with a special breakfast prepared for the newlyweds. Dan fakes being glad for it, but leaves the room to go see his mother but not without disrespecting Iva by kissing Susana suggestively. Iva summons her inner Veruca Salt as she throws pillows in a tantrum.

Clean shaven Orly is on a mission to get Adela back and goes to buy her a gift. Meanwhile Julian and Adela encounter each other and Juli advises Adela to stick up for herself to Josefa since she's no longer a kid. "At least if you're gonna do what she says, find out if she's being truthful to you." Wise words from Julian.

Ivana calls Pimp Mama and tells her she now realizes in marrying Dan, she also married her.  Ivana wants to give the family her wedding gift, paying off their mortgage, but Ursula still hasn’t give her the paperwork on the house to pay it off.  Ursula stonewalls and says Iva doesn’t have to pay the mortgage since she refused their wedding gift, the honeymoon. Iva says the only wedding gift will be her child.  She hangs up and throws up.  When Pimp Mama hangs up with Iva, she reveals to Dan that she doesn’t want Ivana to pay the mortgage since they can get more from Iva when Iva gets her child.  Dan insists that they take advantage of Ivana’s generosity ASAP, but Pimp Mama insists that what Iva is offering now is crumbs (migajas) when they could get so much more.

Mal shows up and lets Dan know that yes, MD did sleep with Max.  Dan is incredulous because MD, he says, “is not an easy woman…she took ages (siglos) to sleep with me.” Mal counters with, “Of course she took her time to sleep with you since she wanted you to marry her…but now “le esta dando vuelo a la hilacha”-she’s whoring around.  (This is Mexican slang for a woman sleeping around according to WordReference.)  Pimp Mama, always the long-term thinker tells her kids that it doesn’t matter if MD is sleeping with Max or sleeping with fifty-eleven men in her neighborhood, Max has to get her pregnant.

Orly shows up at Josefa with a cute, giant bear as a peace offering to Isela, who of course loves the bear, but has her bubble burst by Josefa who kicks Orly and the bear out of their home. Orly talks with Ari about the bear; Ari offers to buy it and give it to Doris since Doris likes those sorts of things.  A little boy comes up to Orly and lets him know the tailor shop is on fire and MD and Doris are trapped inside.  Ari drops the bear and runs frantically to save Doris as Orly follows behind. Max is also there at the scene as he and Espie went to the shop together.  Max jumps in the flames to rescue MD and Doris and Leo also tries to jump in and gets blown back by the flames.  The neighbors get buckets of water to out the flames as Max tries to get Orly, Ari, and MD out.  Turns out Doris wasn’t in the shop; she was at a cafeteria.  Ari is relieved and kisses and hugs his gordita in public, declaring he was so worried about her and she shouldn’t scare him like that. While helping get Orly out Max gets knocked unconscious by the beams, just as the fire department shows up.

The shop landlord Baldomero shows up and is angry at Espie for allowing his shop to burn.  “Get my shop to how it was or I’ll put you all in jail!” he screams.  Orly and Julian tell him to back off.

Dan is in he and Ivana’s bed weepy and depressed over MD and Max’s relationship when Baldomero calls him and asks him why he had his shop burned. Baldy thought he was only going to scare Espie and co, or attack them, not burn his shop.  Dan promises to compensate Baldy and asks Baldy to say that the fire was cause by MD’s carelessness (descuido); that way, they have to pay.  Baldy notes how will they pay when they are really poor (muertas de hambre—literally, dying of hunger); Dan says, “You’ll see how they’ll pay.” Baldy says he hopes Dan fulfills his promises or he’ll tell MD and co personally that Dan and Jacinto set up the fire.

At the hospital, Clara, Leo and MD visit Max.  He has smoke inhalation and some minor burns but he’ll be fine.  He doesn’t want his parents to know what happened to him; he just wants to go home and recover, just as the doctors recommended.

Isela tries to get her mom to tell her about her dad; Josefa stonewalls by saying he never loved Ise and wasn’t interested in knowing about her since he never showed up. “That’s how all men are, bastards,” she says, as Isela tears up.

MD returns to the barrio and tells Isela she’s bringing Max there to recover because he doesn’t want his parents to know about his injuries.  Isela wonders how will he recover without his parents know that something is wrong since he won’t be at the office for a while.  MD says she mentioned that to Max, but they have to follow his wishes; under no circumstances should his parents or anyone at the office know that he was injured.

Ari tells Doris he really meant it when he said he wouldn’t know what would have carried on she had died in the fire. Later on Orly confirms that Ari was super worried about Doris and didn’t care if he got injured jumping into the fire just as long as he found her alive.  Orly gives Doris the big teddy bear on behalf of Ari and says not only did he realize how much Isela still loves him, he realizes how much Ari loves Doris. Doris blanches because she doesn’t want to be hurt again; but Orly says he can only tell her what he saw: Ari is still in love with her because he didn’t care people knew about her and him being together.

Espie comes home hopeless as she tells MD they are going to have to pay the full costs for the shop as if it were new.  “What are we going to do?” she asks mournfully. MD tells her Mom that they will rise up and work hard and not to worry.

MD goes to visit Max and he tells her she should cry; it cleans the soul. All her dreams, and that of her father’s have gone up in smoke.  She shouldn’t always be the strong one since one day her sister and Mom will need to be the strong ones.  Max solidifies his status as a good galan when he adds, “I’ll be there for you, to love you, to protect you, to care for you.  My soul will always be with you.”

Comments:
Gabriel Soto is doing a great job in this novela, first time since LVO, IMHO.
I want a macho, sensitive, adoring, kisser like Max who says all the right loving supportive words, with the right facial and body expressions, looks so in love with MD.

Thanks Jardinera, I'm going to try to patiently wait for JdesdeNYC's recap.

I'm worried about what Dan will do while Max is down and out for a while. And then I will be worried that MD won't tell Max what Dan did in order to keep Max from killing Dan.

The way I figure it, if this novela is going to be about 100+/-episodes; and we are at episode 44, then the baby kidnapping should take up a little less 1/3 of the novela. Yekes!!

This series is 121 episodes long, so we're slightly past the 1/3rd mark.

I'm sure Jacinto started the fire. I'm wondering where Danny-Boy is getting the dinero for the payoffs without realizing that his family is still solvent. Baldomero is also in on this, the sadistic, misogynistic bastard. That had to be how this was timed to happen when Max was in the nabe.

Is Ari still going undercover (so to speak) to see if Maleny is involved? That's even more dangerous than the fire.

Baldomero accused Jacinto of starting the fire to Dan. But I never heard MD's story of how it happened. Wasn't she in there when it started?

Yep Cathyx, twice now MD hasn't told Max everything (once didn't even mention he came into her house) and even her mother has told her to do so, so this has to bite her in the butt at some point.

Which brings me to my comment, Victoria, I'm digging how much Max is into MD and it shows, but it appears to me he is way more into her than she into him.

Knowing Max, I doubt he would kill Dan if MD had an honest conversation and agreed to take more precautions to thwart access, so I don't understand MD's logic of not being totally honest with Max, worried what he would do to Dan. By keeping Max, her sworn primary defender ill informed, MD assures more of the same from Dan. Me thinks deep down that is what she wants.

MD hasn't said how it started but I assume she was in the shop. I wonder how Jacinto was able to enter and start the fire without her knowing. Baldomero let Jacinto in.

Isn't that why Max went into the shop in the first place? Because MD was in it? I don't think Baldomero let Jacinto in because when Baldi was talking to Dan, he said that he assumed Dan was behind it, so that doesn't sound like Baldi knew for sure that Jacinto did it, but was putting 2 and 2 together. And Baldomero acted quite surprised when he saw the fire.

For a second I thought this episode was edited because we juped so sharply from what seemed like morning to the evening and we didn't see anything leading up to the fire. From Baldi and Dan's conversation, it sounded like it was defeinitely Jacinto that started the fire. Dan basically admitted it. At the very least, he didn't seem at all surprised and was quick to agree to pay for it. I'm so mad that he wants Baldi to say it was due to negligence on MD and Espy's part! Man, he really wants to ruin her reputation and take away all of her resources! And what, in the end she's supposed to fall into his arms? Lunatic...

Worried about Espy's health...

Agree that I'm a little disappointed MD doesn't appear to be as head over heels as Max is. That's the only thing lacking, imo.

PS: I am still seriously confused as to why Ursula is doing all of this. I mean, she's considering rape and kidnapping and not only are Ivy and Dan already married, but she is not even broke! What gives?

Hellashelle, when I read Ivy and Dan, at first I thought Ivy? but then I realized it's your shortened name for Ivana, and it works!! I kind of like it.
Anyway, I don't get why Ursela is doing this either. I understand that maybe she wanted her kids to marry their own rich partner to be independent from her own wealth, and she knew Dan had no other rich prospects besides Ivana and bribing Ivana with Dan's child was the only way to do it. But she seems to be more relaxed about Maleny losing her rich husband prospect. So there must be more to Ursela's reason behind wanting to accumulate more wealth to the family and it having to do with Ivana's wealth. I imagine Ivana's wealth must be much greater than Max's.

Ivana owns a company that gets more income than Max's law practice. However, Alma may have come from money and she and Claudio have a nicer mansion. We haven't seen anyone's bank statements.

I don't think Ursula is playing ostrich about Maleny's madness. She also knows about Maleny's slumming and probably sees her as completely damaged goods. That might incline her to not have too many hopes for her prospects.

Man what an episode! I double checked and the episode wasn't edited by Univision*, that's how it aired in Mexico. Speaking of that, I've noticed this novela gives you tidbits (like Daniel calling Jacinto to set the fire but not showing him set the fire) that give you the gist of what's going on without having to show EVERYTHING, especially not the obvious. Not only does this help with the pacing, it gives more time to the meat of the story (the revelations, romances and entanglements).

*I did a little bit a research on the ratings and they've been on a steady incline since the show premiered back in July so hopefully that means everything remains in tact.

HELLASHELLE: As far as Ursula, she understands how much Ivana wanted to be a mother and how important an heir is to the vast fortune Daniel and Ivana's marriage. A bit dated but that is what she considers important. Interestingly enough, she doesn't care MD would be the mother as son as the baby has her son's blood. "A Santibanez" as she said to keep the family line prospering. Now that Ivana realized her cards, Ursula used her last trick to make sure the marriage would happen, civil and religious, therefore tying Daniel to Ivana forever according to what I gather from their beliefs. She chose MD because she thought Daniel could rope her easily again, what she didn't count on is Max making his move and MD accepting. Now that the promise was made, Ursula has to adhere to the rules to keep Ivana (and by extension Daniel) happy or as happy as they'll ever be. Since MD and MAx already did the deed she's trying to keep it under wraps so that she can take the baby while still having Daniel try his luck and get her pregnant himself. Hope this helps :)

My favorite part was the comradery between everyone in La Vecindad and how they all came together to save each other. I've loving the chemistry the cast has with each other. It reminds me of La Malquerida where the friendships seemed real and definitely the best part.

As far as MD not telling Max about Daniel, she's being cautious because everything in her life since her father died as been a tragedy, a sequence of tragic events that seem to have finally stopped (this was pre-fire of course) so she's trying to avoid problems by not telling Max because she knows he would do anything for her, including possibly beating Daniel to a pulp if he ever know he came to her house to mistreat her. Not the best plan because omitting the truth is just as bad as lying IMHO but sometimes the more conflict we try to avoid, the worse it gets. I definitely don't see this getting better for anyone.

Revealed her cards*

I don't know. Maybe it's the quick rebound relationship, maybe it's the actress playing MD (I like her by the way), maybe MD isn't supposed to be all in yet but something is amiss. It's like she is trying to force herself to move on while in a trance and giddy in love hasn't arrived yet. Max is an adult, void of crazy jealously, consistent and well thought of, the least MD could do is tell him when Dan shows up at her house and gets grabby. She may be angry at Dan, possibly starting to hate the guy but she's ain't over him. Max is all in and I kind of feel bad for the guy.

I think Ursula likes to take things that aren't hers and now she is really angry that Ivana made an attempt to play her.

When did Orlando shave his beard? Anyone even mention it?

Yeah, there's no explanation as to why Orlando shaved his beard. I wish he hadn't; it becomes him.

Since Orlando wasn't going to a wedding, I kind of assumed the actor had another part or an audition (when Chris Pratt was on Parks and Rec and started auditioning for the big parts he has now, they had a fly away line about Andy giving up beer. It was hilarious and it explained his weight loss. It was one of the clearest moments I've ever seen when a show had to handle an actor's outside pursuits.)

I have to chalk up the MD issues to Dan being her first great love. There's an openness about loving your "first." When that ends, you might not ever love anyone quite as freely. MD's first love ended horribly and really slapped her in the face with her own naivety, so I can kind of buy that she's not as head over heels this time around. But i don't see why they need to play it this way. Honestly, they could've made the fire That Moment, and I would've bought it. Had MD got BSC over Max being trapped in that building and later if that tender moment had been about almost losing him rather than losing the tailoring shop, I would've completely bought it and it would've made the show for me. I'm very disappointed that they didn't, but G. Soto's carrying it enough for me, just like Gerry's carrying Ivana for me.

Superalfie - I just don't get why she started this at all. She could've cut Dan off and given him a choice of who to seduce. Maybe Ivana was the most obvious choice, but how can she be the ONLY choice? And if this is the case, then it was all to see Dan responsibly settled? If that's the case, it's interesting to me that she's completely written Maleny off. But then, I'm still curious as to why she's always had Maleny on a lower rung than Dan. I think it's part of why I've been questioning their paternity. But I wouldn't be totally surprised if part of this was just Ursula wanting to be top dog and having something specifically against her daughter for being Daddy's Little Girl.

I saw the change in looks with Jaime Camil a couple of times in different TNs and I figured the same thing, he had other irons in the fire doing other shows or movies.
It's funny, when I saw Orlando, my mind took note that he looked different, but it didn't register that he was missing his beard. I thought his hair was different.

Specifically why Ursula began the whole plot of the novela is anyone's guess at thia point. The fact that their not actually in ruin threw a whole wrench in everything.

Maybe like everything else in thia started as a simple white lie to get her children married off to wealthy families that was blown pit of portion. When she first told them about rhe ruin of the family she also didn't know both Daniel and Maleny had lovers.

I think her hatred or lack of complete care for Maleny seems from her father's "suicide." We yet have had a clear picture of what exactly happened but its the obly thing that makes sense. Also Maleny having a lover is provably not helping her situation with her mother who'll do anything to keep her traditions.

We need a frank discussion between Ursela and Arango to fully understand what they are up to.

Superalfie - well that's true. The big wrench in her plans has been Dan's obsession with MD. I'm a little surprised she didn't know about MD or Ari since she seems like the kind of person to keep tabs on the bigger things her kids are up to. But then again, they have been so worthless in the past, maybe she just wrot them off as "Dan's galivanting about with some bimbos" and Mal's "at the club all day".

I can see Ursula being pissed that Mal walked in on her dad's homicide, but since she used Mal to frame it as a suicide I don't but it as the only thing behind this treatment. Well, maybe I can,but it seems like it would be strengthened by something more.

1/2 this show is a ball of confusion, and the
Other 1/2 is "what the hell?" Maybe it'll come
Together for me in a few more weeks. Every
Body is mad with the wrong people. Its kind
Of aggrevating to look at but Im gonna watch
Cause the good guys will eventually went out
Right now looks like the nut sqaud is winning

Hellashelle, that's likely it. Distasteful as it was I believed MD was in love with Dan, it showed. The way she looked at Dan and kissed him convinced me, not so with Max. Even MD's frantic wild eyes when she thought something had happened to Dan on their wedding day compared to her reaction when Max lay under a beam inside the burning shop. Max is just a cuter Julian, another guy friend a total gonner and will lay their life down for her but she doesn't quite feel about them the same way. Even when MD is confronted by Dan, grabs her, tells her wild lies, her words say leave but her eyes and countenance say, keep trying and I'll eventually buy one of these lies, take me away.

I'm thinking that MD is being more cautious with Max. If you get burned badly enough you're not so eager to jump back in and you're also not going to wear your heart on your sleeve so easily.

UA, I agree with that, just hope Max realizes before he gets hurt, despite his dreams a month or so ago MD was convinced Dan the love of her life. She's not there with Max. Not that MD wants to hurt him but she is not as emotionally available as he. Julian at least has Jenny to pick up the pieces, Max no one.

Tofie - Spot on, friend. The fire was a real letdown moment for me in terms of their romance. Heck, Isela had a more violent reaction than MD did. I think she loves Max, yes, like Julian, but with attraction added into the mix. She respects and trusts him, but I don't think she'd be catatonic for half a day if she found out he was married to Maleny or something. I'd almost say she loves him on principle.

But, to be fair, I honestly don't think she'd be that way about anyone again. UA summed it up: once bitten, twice shy. As for Dan, she looks at thim and sees the man she fell for and all of the hopes and dreams she built around him. The family she thought she'd have, the holidays, and the struggles. She looks at him and sees her parents' marriage, remade in her life. I honestly think a big part of love for her is the idea of struggling together, that feeling of being equal, "us against the world". Max is so efficient, wealthy and powerful that I don't think she gets that same sense from him. He's always fixing her problems, she's always causing him new ones.

The recap is up. Enjoy. Makes a great read!

One question: Doesn't anybody in the barrio own a hose? Do they even know what they're for? I couldn't believe pails of water being sloshed around to the shop like it was 18 50 or something. I know Mexico has to be more in tune than that! Even the barrio! Like they couldn't get a bunch of hoses connected from somebody's water spouts along the street there?

Great work, J.

I couldn't believe the bucket brigade thing either. While I can see that nobody in that nabe has a garden that would justify owning a hose, you'd think somebody would have one to clean the courtyard area once in a while.

And how long does it take the fire department to get anywhere in DF?

Claudio and Alma will find out eventually and will dig their heels in all the more about their objection to MD. They will blame her for the fire and get even more paranoid. Don't they know about Danny-Boy's obsession?

Thank you for the recap JdesdeNYC, it does make for a great read!

What's a fire without a bucket brigade? There were some colorful plastic buckets though.

Awesome recap JdesdeNYC! Love your fluid writing style.

I kind of wish Max had gone home and taken MD with him. I think it would've given them more potential for falling in love - more alone time and more quiet to talk and get to know each other. Would that setup have gotten back to his folks sooner than the current one?

Ari was genuinely concerned about Doris, but I still think she and Orlando are the right fit.

I wondered the same thing about the hoses, but then I thought that's prob why they staged the fire at night - the other businesses were already closed even if people had long enough hoses, I don't think the water pressure from someone's house is going to carry over several blocks.

UA - I get so mad when I think about MD's reputation being torn to bits. But what's easier to believe: that a kind of sleazy guy, but "upper class" family friend is completely BSC to the point of stalking, fake weddings, attempted negligent homicide (not to mention what they don't even suspect) all over getting a chick into bed or that a gold digger with no scruples will go to those lengths because she has little to lose?

Actually, they are equally believable -- or not.

A wealthy person could have the massive sense of entitlement that the Santbanez have, so they will do whatever they want without giving a fig for the reps, conditions, or lives of others. We don't know how old their money is, but I'm willing to bet that Hector made the fortune himself before meeting Mama Bear, who had adequate education and/or manners at the time to not be a potential embarrassment to him. Thus, their two brats grew up with the sense of entitlement they have which is hand in hand with never knowing less affluent circumstances.

HI there. I'm new to attempting to make a comment on your blogspot and would appreciate if someone would let me know within what timeframe must comments be made after a a recapper posts an episode in order to ha*ve them included among those of the other comments? I really enjoy and look forwarded to reading the recapper's reviews of the episodes.. Can anyone help me?
Helen

Helen, usually it's until the next episode's recap is up. By that time nobody posts anymore to the previous one.

Jardinera, thanks for this recap of this hot mess of an episode.
Now,these kidnappers of newborn babies are
Aware that they will be stealing max's baby
And the judges and alma's grandchild? And passing the kid off as dans offspring? See
This is insane. Ptsd is not Ivana knows this is Wrong. Im sorry for her up to a point, but
After that, she deserves what she gets. Maybe Thats the only way she'll get help. I can't help Thinking that somewhere in the back of her mind she probably knows that Daniel has been lying about MD and right now she just don't care cuz she's in too much pain and she want somebody to pay for that pain, well the wrong person is paying for that pain. She knows that she's married to a liar and she'd rather believe a liar and save face. that's where I falt her, ptsd or not she wrong. what's that saying? " misery loves company" she's wallowing in it and she want some company, well shes got it. jerry knows whats going down, hes going to be joining her In that misery. I could easily get pissed off at this tn which I am but I know it's going to have a happy ending but before then A lot of hell Is going to come down on these people. I thought sev was cold blooded, but
Pimp moma, shes from a whole other planet.

I laugh at all these mothers who want their children to marry rich people to save the family. Why can't the mothers marry a rich person instead?

I think she did marry a rich man but she murdered him. He should have done what I do, when I think something is to costly in the supermarket leave on the shelf or in the freezer, find something less costly. The man
Should have left Ursula in the supermarket checkin out groceries. I really want to know
How that man died. I no longer believe crazy
Melany killed him. Cause her moma is a lot crazier Than she is. She thought nothing of
Rolling Ivana over into the pool to drown.
And shes like "well since Ivanna didn't drown in the pool I guess I'll have to do something else today la la la de da de da". that woman didn't just fly over the cuckoo's nest she dropped an atomic bomb on it and then flew away.

Helen, great to meet you and I'm glad you're enjoying the recaps. Urban Anthropologist is correct--the conversation tends to move on once a new recap is posted. From a technical standpoint, you may post a comment anytime, however after 7 days it won't appear until after an Admin has reviewed it. That's just to help us cut down on spam.

Thanks for the recap JdesdeNYC. You filled in a couple of poorly understood conversations.

Nina, while I think Ursula is delusional, she does have some degree of self-control. Maleny has none. She is the one who acts on impulse and can't be predicted. Ursula is cold-blooded and almost never does anything she hasn't thought out well.

If both of them end up in the slammer at the end, Maleny will be in a facility for the criminally insane while Ursula will be in a regular high-security prison.

Which reminds me that I have to update their rap sheets.

Come on guys, really aren't you being a little too hard on MD. She just got over one of the biggest traumas most young girls might face with their first true love --being jilted at the altar; and then finding out your new husband, who you just lost your preciously, conserved virginity to is a total sham, con man, fake, liar, etc. ....
Daniel was her first love, one where you give up everything from your soul to your logical thinking. In finding out the terrible truth about Dan, she realized a sad truth about herself. Not only her immaturity, but her gullibility as well.

Factor in the shame she must have felt facing her "neighborhood, where everybody, especially Josefa, rubbed it in her face time after time.

This time with Max she is being more cautious, but it does not mean that the beginning of something stable, longlasting and trusting hasn't started to begin. A relationship founded on trust and friendship and support is much more enduring than one based on starry-eyed love.

But no one should rightfully expect starry-eyed passion to begin almost overnight.(Although here, for plot advancement, the sex with Max happened pretty fast--but then again she was no longer a virgin).

As many of you have commented, you don't believe in love at first sight. So IMHO give the relationship a little bit of time to flourish IMHO.

Just a stupid observation, but in the neighborhoods where I lived for a short period of time in Mexico, there were no outdoor hoses, not even to wash the patio or corridors.

Mexican and other Latin landlords got tired of the vandalism and having the water turned on and left on for stops periods of time.

Even some apartments here in NC have locks on their outdoor houses that only they and the fire/rescue department can access.

**long not stops

I went back and re-watched the wedding/Acapulco episode 19. MD is in love with Dan, Max is a really great hot guy friend. Big difference. Not blaming MD for how she feels and completely understand. Max is a rebound guy for a girl that is numb and not over the love of her life. If fault to be assigned, it is Max that is delusional, expecting more than MD can give at this point.

I don't think she's as in love as Max is yet, but I have confidence she will be. The only thing I'm annoyed about is that she didn't take more time. I wish she wasn't using "te amo" already, since I don't think she's quite hitting that mark and I wish they had kept things quiet until we'd had a few dating scenes. I think I'd buy the transition better that way.

Thanks, JdesdeNYC. Great recap. I appreciate the vocab bonus.

I get MD being less starry eyed than Max. As others have said, she's been burned badly by Dan and now she has a lot on her plate and feels she has too be the strong one to lead her family. While Max has lived a charmed life up to now, and he's all in. MD waiting a little longer to have sex with Max would've been more realistic given her caution though.

Ivana is so self-destructive, it's hard for me to feel sorry for her. How could she not know that marrying Dan is the same as if she'd married Ursula? She's their puppet now. Ivana never heeds Gerry's advise. Even if he brought up seeing a therapist, my guess is she'd ignore this too.

You're right urban, ursula is the more scarey
Of the two. Shes a thinker, she meticulously thinks about the things she's going to do and she plans them out and then she goes and talks to the person that she's going to do them too and she smiles in their face and act all sweet and innocent and at the same time she's stabbing them cutting them and killing them and they don't know it until it's too late.
By then the damage done. you're hooked
Lined, and you're sunk. Thats probably how
She hooked her husband. Arango better watch his back, or front.

Victoria - I don't think anyone's hating on MD for her process. It's reasonable and understandable. I think we'd just prefer it if they'd accept that it's a difficult and painful process and allow MD and the audience to go through it. This is a TN with a lot of shades of grey; situations and emotions are messy, but they're going a great job of fleshing them out and it would be a higher quality show if the would (1) continue to do this by admitting MD's still working through Dan's betrayal or (2) have MD really sell that she's completely in love with Max.

But, as someone said before, this show doesn't beat us over the head with plot points; it's way more subtle. Maybe this issue will come to the forefront as part of the plot later on.

Thank you for the great recap J, it's very much appreciated!

About MD, I think Max knows her and what troubles her and why she is how she is right now. She tried to keep him at bay while she worked through all her issues with her past with Daniel but he kept pushing to be accepted because he wanted to be part of her healing process. I believe her when she says she loves him because he has been so wonderful and he is so attractive that how could she not? And maybe it's not the cautionless love that she had with Daniel but I do think she is giving him the kind of love she can give at this point and that has been enough to make her and Max happy right now, and if it grows then it will be perfect but I don't think Max expects more from her at the moment.

No way is MD still in love with Danny-Boy. She's kicking herself for being naive about him and for falling for his lies for so long. She will get over this and I hope she does before she ends up pregnant.

Ursula is more dangerous in the long term but Maleny is unpredictable. Who expected her to aim a pistol at Ari and threaten his life? None of us saw that coming and he needs to watch his back... and the family jewels in case she decides to deprive him of them.

LOL, I wouldn't put a "family jewels" situation past Ivana either, at least not once she has that baby.

PS: We haven't discussed Esperanza this weekend. What's the deal with her health? Do you guys think this was just a temporary thing for purposes of the fire or do you think it'll be a more serious plot point?

Thank you so much everyone for doing such a fabulous job recapping this deliciously complex tn. I just got from Brazil today, and I feel up to date on everything that's happening. I am going to dive right back in to watching tonight, but likely won't catch up on the episodes I've missed the last few weeks for another few weeks.

I'm in the camp who believes it's perfectly normal for MD to be more cautious about her relationship with Max, but I don't think that means she doesn't love him. This relationship is more real than anything she ever had with Dan. It's easy to be starry eyed about the fairy tales Dan was constantly spinning her. She is building her relationship with Max with clear eyes and a clear head.
