Yo No Creo en los Hombres #70 Lunes 10/19/15

There's too much going on right now. Sorry about the missing dialogue; even gumshoes have lives. But I think you'll get it. – Dashiell

Chapter 70: Running Away

Doris was not happy to hear that Maria Dolores was leaving. She was not planning to see Max before she left. Her child was to come first.

Mama Bear waited for her cubs at the breakfast table. She told the butler not to bring breakfast to Danny-Boy's room. When Danny-Boy came down a second later she reproached him for his depression and recent romance with his mattress. Maleny also didn't let him off that hook. She gleefully announced that Maria Dolores broke her engagement to Max. Her weasely brother got up out of his seat as Maleny filled them in on all the filthy details, starting with Hosefa's public announcement. The two embraced as though they had just won the lottery. Mama Bear grinned when Maleny capped it with Maria Dolores' acknowledgment that Danny-Boy was the sperm donor. She had told Isela.

Danny-Boy embraced his sister in a very creepy way and became delusional again, thinking he could get Maria Dolores back. Mama Bear tried to bust that bubble, but was not successful. Maleny said they could not afford to wait because Maria Dolores would eventually get Max back. They would need to work together to keep Max and Maria Dolores apart. Danny-Boy said that babies bring couples together so this was his job. He kissed his sister's face and her bare feet before she could stop him.

Hosefa was still at the Bustamantes' mansion. Isela called her out on what she had done to Maria Dolores. Hosefa talked about her living in the lap of her lover's wife's luxury. Isela told her about boinking Claudio in the marital bed. Hosefa was delighted that her protegée had done well. She made some snide remarks about Alma. But she also said Isela had to remember the revenge.

Max expected reproaches from Alma, but she didn't give any. She didn't want to. She cried, saying she expected him to ask her to leave but would always be there for him. She could always come to her when he's suffering. Max was convinced that Maria Dolores had lied. He still did not understand what had happened. He still couldn't believe it. “Maria Dolores just isn't like this,” he said. He cried and embraced his mother.

Isela called Maleny, who wanted revenge. She was amused by the recent bedroom hopping at the Bustamantes'. She now wanted to get Ari a special gig that had nothing to do with tennis while she got ready to marry Max. Siccing Ari on Alma was her revenge on Max for him jilting her. How this would bring Alma down in his eyes! She was expecting Isela to help her. Isela wasn't willing, but Maleny was relentless.

Jenny went to the hospital to look for Fermin, but he had left without being discharged. Jenny was very worried.

Leo tried to talk to Clara. He told her Max wanted him to move back in with his parents because he wanted to be alone. He said “You told me Maria Dolores lied for a reason,” but she tried walking away from him. He didn't let her get away. Clara told him that her sister didn't want to get back together with Max. “Very well,” he said, and walked away.

Fermin stumbled back to the barrio. He was three or more sheets to the wind. Hosefa ran up to him and told him Julian was doing very well without him. She didn't let him speak. She asked what he wanted. “You want money to buy drinks?” She gave him some money and encouraged him to buy more of his favorite poison. She even began leading him away from the courtyard entrance.

Julian went to the Morales apartment to talk about what happened at the office. He explained that he and the Bustamantes had previously agreed that personal issues and business would be separate. He would now have to rent the office space. The important thing was that he had some good clients. Esperanza was relieved. Maria Dolores asked about Jenny. He had heard from Jenny who had not slipped off the wagon.

Jenny was at Honoria's apartment looking for Julian. She told Honoria she had gotten calls the previous night from the hospital about Fermin. She had gone to the hospital to find him he was not there. She was worried.

Hosefa led Fermin to the junkyard at the edge of the shantytown and next to old railway tracks. He had two bottles of booze. He tried to tell her that Julian was in danger. Rudolfo's killers were out looking for him. They wanted revenge for his testimony. He had seen them. Julian had to be warned. She said she would take care of it. She left and he laid down with his favorite companion.

Julian told Maria Dolores he was prepared to be her child's father. He had a ring box in his hand. Maria Dolores and her mother looked at each other, bewildered.

In the office Isela tried to talk to Adrian about her sister's case, but Claudio interrupted. “What are you doing here, Isela?”

Esperanza left Maria Dolores and Julian to talk privately. Julian promised he was not taking advantage of her situation. He had always loved her. He proposed to Maria Dolores to help her and to give the child a name. They would not have a usual married life. He opened the box and she saw the ring.

Isela excused herself and started out the door. Adrian told Claudio he was going to remain partners with Julian, per the arrangement he made with Max. They would work wherever Julian said.

Maria Dolores urged him to keep the ring because she was sure she wasn't the right woman for him. She said it wouldn't be fair to him to marry her just to provide a name for her baby. He told her not to worry, that he would keep it for the day she would want it. She told him she loved [querer] him but was leaving soon for Monterrey where she would stay with a relative of Doris'. He was concerned that she was going alone. The only thing that bothered her was leaving her mother and sister behind. He then said he wanted to go with her.

Isela told Claudio she couldn't take living with him and his wife anymore. He might be getting off on his ménage a trois but she was fed up with it. She was tired of being two-faced to Alma who was then consoling Max. Boinking him and listening to Alma cry was more than she could take.

Doris was trying to locate her nana in Monterrey. Orlando asked her why she didn't call her parents. She answered that she wasn't close to them. They hadn't returned her calls in a long time and she wasn't really up to talking about it. She changed the subject to his job search. He had been looking in her neighborhood and found a job changing oil at a gas station. Not much, but it was something. She got up to go to the kitchen and cook dinner. Her nana had always said that good food cures anything.

Jenny apologized to Julian for worrying him. She told Julian about the call she got from the hospital and what happened after that. She asked about Maria Dolores. Honoria said that the whole thing was a misunderstanding. Maria Dolores' baby isn't Julian's. Jenny guessed about the proposal. He showed them the engagement ring. Honoria guessed that Maria Dolores had turned it down. Julian replied that he asked her to think hard about it and talk to Max. They would be leaving for Monterrey shortly after. Jenny walked out. Honoria wrung her hands. Then she started to cry. She asked Julian when he would stop hoping for Maria Dolores to love him when he kept getting hurt. He said “Never.” He even asked whether she wouldn't love a grandchild whom she could love as she loves him.

Maria Dolores apologized to Jenny. She didn't accept. She blamed Maria Dolores for Julian being in the wheelchair. Julian could have done alright with a cane, but wouldn't use it. He didn't want to be seen by Maria Dolores as a man who couldn't protect her. She told her about the day Danny-Boy came for her and Julian ended up being dragged through the street when he reached into the car. She never told her because Julian did so much to help her in the hope of getting her admiration and love. The worst of it was that the doctor had told her that Julian didn't have much longer to live. Esperanza didn't want to believe this but Maria Dolores told her it was true. She had heard them talking about it in the hospital waiting room. Jenny said he had been getting worse ever since. She loved him. “If someone loved me as much as he loves you, I'd do everything I could to make his last days happy.” Esperanza explained that it isn't that simple. Jenny told Maria Dolores she won't ask her to make this sacrifice, but to think carefully about everything because Julian didn't deserve her pity. Maria Dolores promised she would.

Ivana went back to Max's apartment. He was grateful for her concern, but wanted to be alone. He even sent his mother home. She offered her help. Maria Dolores then arrived, apologizing for the interruption. Ivana took her leave. Maria Dolores saw the condition of Max's apartment. She apologized to him and took off her engagement ring. He watched with a stony expression. He didn't want it back. He said to sell it or toss it because it meant nothing to him. She put it on the sideboard, looking away from him. He then grabbed her and kissed her very intensely. She kissed him back at first, then broke the kiss. She apologized for having deceived him. Her hair fell over the side of her face. He might not have seen her tears.
“Therefore, I was wrong about you. I thought you were different from Maleny. How could you throw the first stone when you are worse than she is?”
“Because of that,” she said, “I didn't throw it in your face that she deceived you with Ari.” She left. She managed to close the door just before the flood of tears began. Max threw a chair at the door after it closed. After that caveman stunt he collapsed on the floor and cried.  Maria Dolores cried outside.

Esperanza and Honoria met in the courtyard and agreed to go to church. They wanted to pray that their children would make the right decision. Hosefa came up behind them with nasty remarks about getting rid of the wheelchair ramps all over. Esperanza hauled off and slapped Hosefa. “Leave us alone!” Hosefa tried to hit back but Honoria was also fed up. She pulled Hosefa aside and told her that she had kept silent a long time but now everyone will know her secret. She tried to make a call on her cell but Hosefa went after her.

Claudio came home. Alma was happy that Isela had returned to the office to work. Isela told Alma she was going home. Alma wanted her then to move to the apartment. Claudio said it was alright now that Orlando was gone. Alma said that was no guarantee he wouldn't return, so Isela should stay with them. Isela said it was time she left so Alma and Claudio could have time with their sons. Alma said she'd have plenty of time while she was at the office. Isela's cell rang. When she answered she heard the neighborhood sounds and Honoria shouting over them. “Isela, I have something important to tell you about your mother,” she said. But at that moment Hosefa grabbed Honoria's phone.

Isela didn't have a good poker face. Alma asked whether something happened. She said no, but she looked like a deer in the headlights.

Honoria told Hosefa she wasn't going to say anything to Isela. Hosefa then said she was going to tell her that Julian's life was in danger. Honoria didn't trust her. Hosefa said she would show her. She grabbed her hand to drag her out. Esperanza told Honoria she would go with her but Hosefa said “Shut up or I'll hit you” as they left the courtyard.

Ivana told Gerry she was worried about Max. He didn't understand her concern since she and Max weren't friends.

Hosefa dragged Honoria to the junkyard. They found Fermin, unconscious.

Maria Dolores went home and told Esperanza and Clara she gave back Max's ring. It was the saddest decision she had ever made. Esperanza told Clara that motherhood changes one's priorities. Maria Dolores explained about Doris' nana and that she would be able to go and stay with her. She was leaving that night. Esperanza said she would have to go alone because she couldn't marry Julian. They sat down and talked. Esperanza didn't want her to go alone; she and Clara would come with her. Clara refused to leave. She refused to leave Leo. She walked out. Maria Dolores told Esperanza to stay in the apartment; she would get Clara back.

Clara was out in front of the courtyard entrance. She called Leo on her cell. She told him about Maria Dolores leaving for Moneterrey. She did not see Hosefa lurking behind her. She was just close enough to hear it all. She sulked away before Maria Dolores came out to get Clara back in. She chased her back in saying they had to talk.

Hosefa waited near the entrance until they were inside. She then called Úrsula to tell her.

Her karma should be a bigger bitch than she is. The neighbors should stock up on crosses, mallets, and stakes.

Urban- As always, thanks for going the extra mile to find these episodes online and post them early for us. Much appreciated because I couldn't bring myself to watch the episode, but couldn't wait to read what had happened. This tn is gripping.

I was so hopeful reading about MD going off to be with Doris' nana. And then, my hopes were dashed when I got to the end and read about Hos-Heffa listening in and reporting to Ursula. Arrgggg!

Since I can't bear to speak about the whole MD situation right now, I want to focus on Doris. Doris has a nana? And she's estranged from her parents? Could she have possibly come from money and somehow didn't meet her parents' expectations, or they didn't meet hers?

Wouldn't it be funny if Ari threw away his relationship with Doris to bag a rich heiress, and it somehow turns out that Doris IS a rich heiress, who is just refusing to live off her parents' money? This is all just speculation on my part, but the talk of nanas and estranged parents got me thinking this, and wouldn't it just be delicious comeuppance for Ari? :)

Vivi, I love your theory. It is a definite possibility and wouldn't the irony be delicious? Ari would be kicking himself into the next remake.

I keep wondering whether it ever occurs to Maleny that her lack of boundaries with Daniel is not normal. Does she even know what "normal" is?

Thank you Urban! I laughed so hard at this: "Danny-Boy embraced his sister in a very creepy way and became delusional again" because it's sSO TRUE. They are so weird.

Vivi - I LOVE THAT THEORY!!!!! That so has to happen. It just must; it's too delicious not to.

UGH!!! Josefa!!! She is like the master secret villain. Way better at keeping her secrets than the big bads of this story, she keeps both saving and ruining MD.

Man, I feel like I am on this roller coaster ride with Max!

Friends-I'm afraid I've been lurking for the last three TNs and have totally depended on your blog in order to understand what's actually going on. My high school (many years ago) Spanish is slowly getting spruced up. My dear sister Molly got me addicted to this and now I am pulling up a seat in the patio. I have a problem though, I usually record the show on the west coast of the US and watch it the next night with Caray-Caray in hand. For the last week and three more weeks I'm in Central Europe (Prague) so have only had the blog. I hope someone can tell me how to find the shows or parts of them on my computer with wifi while I'm here...maybe CountX will know...I think I read that he watches in Slovenia. I can't thank all of you enough who write the episodes and who chime in with comments - I feel like I know many of you! 'No Creo' takes my breath away with it's speed and twists!
Thanks,
Marcia

Hi Molly's sister! Welcome, welcome amiga!

If you have certain cable providers in the states, you can watch the TNs on uvideos.com. I believe they also post them on Hulu.com, though the timing availability might be a problem. Youtube often has episodes, though the quality can often be questionable, especially if they're trying to avoid getting the videos taken down.

UA uses a website as well I believe, but I can't remember what it is.

I know you guys discussed this yesterday on the post, but I can't believe Dan thinks this baby will bring MD back to him! (1) Way to flip the script; usually it's the female villana using a pregnancy to hold on to the protag. I like the switch, but he's out of his mind. (2) I myself suggested that Dan kidnapping MD would work in her favor, but now I'm terrified that he and Ursula really will.

A big welcome to Molly's Sister. Glad you're here with us.

Nothing about kidnapping MD could work in Scuzzy Santibanez' favor. It certainly could work in her favor if he creates a situation leading to a miscarriage. That would be more than enough to get him in prison and out of her life. For which the rape should have been enough if she had reported it.

Thank you, UA for your Hollywood picturesque like recaps. I can't always comment but I too am "lurking" in the background.
I agree that Danny boy embraced his sister is such an unorthodox manner. They are such a stomach turning bunch-yuck!! I too, thought that momma bear and her cubs acted as if they had won the lottery when the idiot Maleny spewed the pregnancy news. Malbrainy {Maleny) wanted her brother to kiss her feet and he took it literally- ugh!! Los Santibanez- the ultimately dysfunctional family.
Vivi- your theory about Doris and Ari would be poetic justice at its best.
When karma pays Hoss-Jeffa a visit, I want to throw a parade. What a nosy, good for nothing, who selectively keeps her mouth shut about Marta and Isela. I'm glad that Honoria has her number.
My heart went out to Max. I as a viewer felt his heart wrenching pain.
I am enjoying this novela, thank you again for your recap.

Welcome Molly's Sister! Hopefully Countx can tell you how to best access the videos from Europe. Looking forward to seeing more comments from you.

Tablet Jefa! Long time to hear, amiga? How are you? So glad you have decided to unlurk and join the conversation.

UA - I guess my thought was that Dan would attempt to kidnap her and Ursula or Mal would freak out and tell someone the truth in order to get help with getting him back. Then the truth would be out and the severity of the action would support MD's reasoning for doing what she did because it would stand as proof that Dan really is as dangerous as she fears he is.

Also, I almost swooned and cried last night when Max kissed MD. I felt like I was channeling him because I would have forgiven her everything if she'd just broken and confessed the truth right then and I think Max would have too.

UA this didn't appear an abbreviated recap what a wonderful job.

"Boinking him and listening to Alma cry was more than she could take"

Don't even know where to start.

Up till last night I thought Julian a nice and smart young man but his proposal was cringe worthy. If MD marries him and he leaves it leaves Adrian without a partner just when he's told Claudio he's leaving.

I don't understand why MD didn't just disappear from Max's life. After wounding him the night before she went to his apartment to gut him and finish the job. That's some cold shit.

While Max lays on the floor bleeding MD's decision has made Dan the happiest man alive.

I don't blame Clara for being angry and not wanting to drop her life for her sisters horrible decisions.

Weird too, but Gerry called her on it, was Ivana's presumption Max should have told her want is wrong.

Josefa coaxing Fermin with booze like a dog with a bone.

I expect MD will tell both Espy and Clara that she doesn't want them to go anywhere and it's not fair to them, the same as she did with Julian.

His proposal wasn't exactly cringeworthy for me, but for a second, when he held that ring, I thought he looked exactly like a little boy giving his crush a ring from the bubble gum machine. It was so sweet and so sad at the same time.

I've been wondering about that ever since MD walked out of the Horror House, but after the weekend and Vivi's calm outlook, I think I've reconciled this situation in my mind.

I understand Julian's devotion and offer but he still pointed out he hopes one day she would come to love him. Knowing that, if she takes him up on the offer because it benefits her, I think she has crossed over a line and is using him. Espy, Clara, Jenny see this.
If he was a teen boy with a crush, hanging on every look or word and she agrees to attend prom to throw someone off, I'd think what a foolish boy. For MD to accept a marriage offer, after her selfish decision to mix him up in a pregnancy, believing correctly he'd go along, smacks of using his feelings for her to her benefit.

She didn't accept, did she? Just trying to get clarity.

Vivi we don't know yet. I don't think she will accept the ring yet but Julian offered to go to Monterrey with her. She had just sat down to tell Espy and Clara what she was going to do and Clara ran out.

Thanks, Tofie.

Remember that Julian's life is in danger. The thugs who killed Rudolfo are after him because he was the only eyewitness. Leaving DF would benefit him, at least as long as those thugs would not know where they've gone.

It would protect Julian from the thugs and from the Santibáñez family but why hasn't that been discussed by MD and Julian? I would buy that.

I expect at some point Dan will rub what happened in Max's face and do a little dance. He waste no opportunity to taunt Max.

Julian doesn't yet know that the thugs are back and after him because Josefa was going to tell Honoria (maybe) but stopped to use it as blackmail info to keep her from telling Isela that she's not her daughter.

God I hope when he does someone clocks him. But dangit! Max can't because he's already assaulted him. (HellaShelle fumes silently in the corner over this injustice) Ivana! Ivana can clock him! He won't press charges against her :)

Thanks, Urban. Terrific recap. My favorite snark: When Danny-Boy came down a second later she reproached him for his depression and recent romance with his mattress.

I wasn't surprised Julian had a ring on standby for MD just in case. But I was surprised Jenny seemed to be trying to get MD to accept his proposal because he'll die soon and he got in a wheelchair sooner because of her. That wasn't fair.

Cute moment when Orlando asked Doris what's up because she never talked about her family before but now she's all "my nana, my nana."

UA--There was no need to apologize for the lack of dialog. It was all there for us--just lacking quotation marks. You didn't miss a thing and we thank you for it.

I love the kidnapping idea. Especially if MD decides to go to Monterey alone and the Santibanez' pull it off. No one at home worries because she's forced to call home periodically and say she's ok. However, 9 months is a long time for nothing to happen in this telenovela. First of all, Doris will call nana and find out she never got there. So maybe something WILL happen for the next 9 months. Love the idea of Doris being an heiress, but she speaks as though the barrio was where she grew up (unless she changed her way of speaking to be accepted by her new "family.")

I have the horrible feeling that MD will take pity on Julian's "shortevity," after what Jenny told her, and goes ahead and marries him. Maybe that will keep her in the neighborhood. Public knowledge of that wedding will resound in the Bustamante household for sure.

I did feel awful for Max as MD was giving Max's ring back. He hadn't given up on her. He knew there was another story in there somewhere, the true one. She just didn't give it to him.

There has been much discussion on MD's real feelings for Max not being those of a woman totally in love with her galan. With that fresh in my mind, her declaration to Doris that Max was the love of her life, just didn't ring true (unless it was the actress' delivery that didn't ring true). Now I'm just more confused by MD and everything about MD. Is she the symbolic of the tragic figure in a Greek tragedy? Nothing she does in the way of trying to choose the best route to happiness turns out right and she ruins (or negatively affects) those she loves. IKIK, I'm just repeating everyone's sage conclusions, but I had to add my .02 to the growing pile.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. I thought Honoria told Ho-Seffa she *was* going to tell Isela and the Ho said, if I tell you something important (the Fermin-Julian threat) to prove I'm still on your side, will you not tell Isela?

Also, can I expand on the Claudio-Adrian convo? Adrian is ready to move out with Julian. They will have to find rented space elsewhere since Claudio kicked Julian out and Adrian is Julian's partner. Claudio backpedals a bit and said he didn't mean Adrian had to leave. He can stick around and continue to help him and Max with cases. That's when Adrian says, where Julian goes, I go.

Meanwhile, Julian has a sufficient number of clients to help support him, but if he decides to flee to Monterey with MD, does that end the partnership or does Adrian carry on along, with Julian checking in from Monterey? Mama wants to come and Clara doesn't? Ah, decisions, decisions, all because of MD. (Drat her anyway.)

Guess I misunderstood the intent of Jenny's chat with MD. I thought she wanted MD to think long and hard about her motivation and not to do it because she felt sorry for him or more selfishly so her child would have a name but do so if she felt she could love Julian as he deserves since he hasn't long to live.

I don't think Julian knows yet. He just missed them the other day when Adrian pulled up in the car. They saw Adrian and backed off. Therefore MD doesn't know either.

Hosefa wouldn't tell him and she should have.

Oh, the kidnapping possibility--if both MD and Julian go, will the Santibanez have to kidnap both of them?

Tofie--I think you got the Jenny convo right. Or at least the sentiment. Whatever, MD has to think about it and the deadline is looming if she wants to leave that night.

Thanks for the great recap and a a big howdy to our new friends on the patio. I hate Hosefa, jeez I have a feeling MD is not going anywhere soon but how she will be stopped is my concern. Dang it. I had the same reaction to Doris's nana? Is she rich? My goodness will Isela stoops so low to help Ari seduced Alma? But how? Questions, questions, lol

Should have checked for new comments in "preview" mode before posting the previous one.

Jenny is all wet about Julian's present condition. Julian's being in a wheelchair now is all on himself. He made the decision to go after Scuzzy Santibanez and he knows his own condition. He had been advised much earlier to use a cane and he refused. He had been offered a wheelchair long before Max bought him this one and he refused. He already knew before falling down the stairs that the clock is ticking down for him.

He is delusional about whether MD would ever love him the way he loves her. Note her uses of querer vs. amar when she speaks of her feelings for him. Honoria has some responsibility for Julian's delusions and so does Fermin. Rudolfo might have also, but he wasn't around long enough for us to find that out.

Daniel is more likely to kill Julian than kidnap him; think of how the wheelchair would slow him down.

"her declaration to Doris that Max was the love of her life, just didn't ring true (unless it was the actress' delivery that didn't ring true)"

That's how it came off to me too, just a girl saying her lines and no conviction behind it and why I've been so confused. I assumed Max was supposed to be because he loves her so much but it doesn't seem so. I believed it bothered her to destroy him as she did but not because he was any more special than Jenny, whom she did try and fix.

She went there intending to put an exclamation point at the end of her sentence from the evening before. If she thought it better for him and everyone involved to disappear she could have done that by leaving quietly. If she wanted to have a honest break up conversation with Max she could have done that too but she wanted to rip his heart out and kill what he feels for her. People that do that do not love that person. It was cold, calculating and flat mean and by the time she got back to her house and spoke to Doris you get her usual lukewarm response.

Tofie, you seem to hate all the leading ladies and attribute ugly motives to their actions.

I see her returning the ring as evidence of honesty. She's not a gold-digger, which others have unjustly accused her of. The ring is a reminder of Max and if she had kept it it would haunt her. She is giving it up when she would easily need the money she could get from selling it, which is actually in sync with previous actions.

Leaving it with Clara and Esperanza would be the better solution from our perspective, but would still leave her with a sense of not only guilt but cowardice.

Mmm, I have a theory about MD's torching Max but I don't want to veer off last night's action.

Josefa is so evil and it's extra maddeningly because more than any other villain, she uses the truth to ruin people. I hope Honoria finds out that she literally led Fermin away practically by his nose i.e. the scent (and taste) of money/alcohol.

And can we take a moment to note how very quickly she bought what she wanted. Are we sure she and Ursula weren't separated at birth?

UA--I don't see that in Tofie at all. But, about the ring. Doris offered to return it to her if she didn't want to see Max again. That would still be honest, non-gold digging. She refused because she thought it was her responsibility to return it--for what? What she did was kill any emotion Max had toward her or perhaps women in general.

Sure hope he doesn't fall back on Maleny now, no matter how persuasive she sounds.

I hate most of the galans too!

I never thought of MD as a golddigger and not once thought she would do anything but return the ring. Doris could have returned it and she could leave town and hopefully not see Max again. I'm looking at the crumbled mess of Max on the floor after her visit. She called off the wedding, has other plans for her life but she didn't have to go to his apartment and tell him again she cheated on him as he begged her to tell him the truth. Pretty cold to me.

Hellashelle--What's your theory? You've pricked my curiosity.

We've discussed MD trying to kill Max's feelings by naming Julian the baby-daddy to protect him from Daniel. It's a somewhat popular tn trope that doesn't work in the end. Right now, does MD even know why she did what she did?

Oh, and welcome Molly's Sister!!!!!

Welcome back Tablet jefa!!!!

Oh, and if Ho-Seffa were as skinny as a rail, I'd buy into twins separated at birth.

Someone else mentioned it before but I cannot help but believe Dan was behind the robbery of Rudolfo, perhaps not his murder, that happened during the course of the robbery, but it would be consistent with what Dan did after to bring financial strain on the family.

Tofie - but his original plan was to get MD to sleep with him. I can't see how robbing her dad would've accomplished that...Unless he was going for a (1) pressure to sleep with him in exchange for financial help or (2) "she'll be so broken up, she'll lean on me and one thing will lead to another..." But that seems far-fetched.

Anita - I'm still letting it percolate. Josefa & Ursula and Isela & Maleny are such interesting character studies to me. They're so similar, their stories have interesting parallels, their motivations and are fascinating to speculate about. They're very complex villains.

Tofie, that Dan orchestrated the robbery and murder of Rudolfo is my theory. Only a theory because we have no proof yet. It seems likely in view of his persistent refusal to meet her parents, which she should have seen as a big red flag coupled with his constant attempts at getting her in bed. Since she had previous boyfriends I'm guessing they were all from the area and known to her family before she dated them.

Since we didn't see him talking to or paying off the thugs it could be that the writers left themselves the option to backpedal into that.

In order for Dan to have hired the thugs, a few things would have been happening simultaneously. At the same time that the two thugs found out from Fermin (who found out from Honoria) that Don Rudolfo happened to have a stash of cash in Hon's home, the two thugs would have also have had to run into Dan, who just happened to also want to hurt Rudolfo. So they would have gotten the motive to steal from Fermin (who got a cut of the stolen cash for liquor) AND the motive to kill from Dan. A little too complicated, but not impossible.

I must backpedal myself. I just said something Dan might have done would be far-fetched, forgetting that he ran his car into a pole just to keep her from being mad that he didn't call her back. And the same guy who watched his mother roll his new bride into a pool minutes after their wedding.

So yeah, nothing he does should be far-fetched in my mind. Certainly Ursula is capable of anything.

My take on MD returning the ring. She loves Max and wanted to see him one last time, and she sees facing him herself to return it as a form of respect for him. Of course he's not feeling any of that.

MD was dating Scuzzy for two or three months before the opening episode. That's enough time before meeting the parents when the lady lives with them. Also enough time for obsession to control can develop. Getting rid of Rudolfo and the seed money for Esperanza's business was how he could make MD turn to him in his mind.

Ursula controls Daniel, so controlling MD is what he needs to get his cojones back. Passive/aggressively refusing to marry Ivana (before the bankruptcy news) wasn't enough. Now he wants to control both MS and Ivana, which he isn't man enough to do by his own measure.

Why else didn't he go to Rudolfo's funeral?

He didn't want to go to Rudolfo's funeral because he doesn't like doing the hard stuff in a relationship, like being there for the other person when they are grieving.

At the time of Rudolfo's death, Ursula did not yet know about MD.

Ooh, UA, I think that analysis! I"m sure Ursula not knowing about her made the relationship that much more important to him: something his mom didn't know about and wouldn't approve of, with a woman who was head over heels for him with no knowledge of his money or power/influence/connections? Probably fed right into the love/hate relationship he has with all women. When I think about it like that, it's no wonder MD is his obsession.

Daniel has no comprehension of what a relationship is. He should just go to Stepford with a photo of Maria Dolores, a few stats, and whatever cash necessary to commission a robot of her because that is all he really wants no matter what he says.

Being at a funeral for a few hours wouldn't be a big deal unless he was avoiding having to face his own role in the situation. Ursula not knowing about MD doesn't factor into that. Him being absent from home for a few daytime hours wouldn't require an explanation unless Mama Bear was actually checking up on him, which I don't think she has been doing.

But I can see her doing it now.

I *dig that analysis

I thought he was crazy when he drove that car into the pole. I'm actually surprised they didn't roll something about his dad's death into his reaction.

I meant, Ursula didn't know anything about MD at the time, so she wouldn't have had anything to do with Rudolfo's death.

UA I thought it might be you that floated the hypothesis but couldn't remember. The result of Rudolfo's death and loss of his stash was a win for Daniel. I think he goes into any seduction full speed and holds nothing back, I betcha he knew everything about MD and her family before the show started and was never above a woman sleeping with him out of desperation.

UA, good recap, the episode was....... not a badly disappointing episode because the storyline Is what it is...sucky. no one is happy
In this story. The good people can't seem to catch a brake. I would have loved to have seen Maria Dolores get out of town without Dan and his parasitic family finding out about it but once again the crooks find out what the good people are going to do, and
Well that probably wont turn out right either.
I wish the writers would maybe give her a miscarriege. That sounds cruel, but whats
Worst Is having danny as a father. Nothing will ever Go right for these people. no one has figured out yet how the information is getting back to the enemy. Nobody's thinking clearly. Ok next.

Thank you UA, I didn't have time to watch today, and then when I did, I didn't want to. This is very depressing right now, I can't bear to watch.

I thought when Dan and MD were first going out, he never met her parents, and didn't really want to either. So my vote is that he had nothing to do with the killing.

My first thought about Doris and the Nana was the same as Vivi, I wouldn't be surprised if she came from a wealthy family, but wanted to go out on her own and find a man who didn't love her for her money.

I wonder if the writers are men, and since we've had discussions about the female voice vs the male voice in other comment threads, if these writers are male, then they may not have a good perspective on how women behave and think, especially in situations like MD is going through, and that's why we think the female leads are not as in love with the galans as the galans are with them. Same would hold true for La Sombra De Pasado. And she was raped too, incidentally.

Cathyx- Interesting theory, but two of the three writers on this tn are women, the original story was written by a woman, and the producer is a woman. Frankly, I think that's why all the other women are so richly written, and that we have two curvy gals among the main players. I think MD and her actions/reactions are just plot device. A way of propelling the story one way or another through the actions of its main protagonist.

Amigos- Advanced warning-- I won't be able to do a Wednesday episode recap. I have an early morning presentation Thursday that I have to prep for and get to bed early tomorrow. I will set up a comment page to automatically post, and if anyone is so moved you'll be able to post a mini recap in the comments.

Cathyx - I don't know about that. I find the female characters of this show to be incredible complex and well crafted, even when they're doing horrifying or disappointing things. I love that they're varied in almost everything: style, looks, motivations, beliefs, positions, goals, personalities etc and that they're true to their characters. While many women are still often caught in the long suffering roles,, they're also self and inter-motivated as well. I think it's head and shoulders above a lot of depictions we see in TNs.

Thanks for the heads up Vivi!

Someone said a while back that all or most of the writers are men. That would explain the one sidedness in some of these
Tns. Some of these women in these tns are
Treated like they don't have a brain in their
Head. And I know thats not true.
