Antes muerta que Lichita #65 Wednesday 12/23/15
What I found out in #64:
Heads up: This is very sketchy from my notes last night because I was baking and not watching very carefully just like I might be tonight! :) What is the sudden tie in with "autism"? Is Icónika" trying to enhance its image with being/looking socially conscious?
As it started in the last couple of episodes, plenty of characters are using "antes muerta que. . ." "I would rather be dead than/better dead than . . . " An homage to the title?
LaLa milk and PayLess were the favored products in placement and embedded commercial.
Best scene: Luciana taking a selfie with her shrimp at the table at the beach resort.
Sandra is still in "menopausal fantasy land" and really believes she is going away to the USA with Augusto. She keeps trying to poison Augusto against Alicia. She is not happy when he tells Alicia she can drop the coffee company as a potential client. (He also tells her she has to replace it with a comparable account ) She tells him to keep his eye on Alicia . She cannot be trusted. Augusto can't see a problem: he controls all the agencies. She reminds him he does not control Madelén.
Augusto is indeed involved in money laundering. We got to see the shootout where he was injured. He thinks about Alicia mentioning the false accounts she found. He now knows she is on to something.( I can't see how that is going to be good for Alicia when Augusto looks like he plays for keeps and is willing to take the consequences even if it is a bullet. )
Rafael seeks Augusto's assistance to get his money from the sale of his house in Buenos Aires. Augusto has a"lawyer " working on it. Truth be told, Augusto is just wondering how long he will be able to hang on to all that money himself.
Roberto and Luciana are on their honeymoon at the beach. He wants to talk about their families and tell her about Mateo. She has a thousand and one excuses for not listening to him as he has a thousand and one excuses not to have sex with her. She sees marriage has a non ending loop of shopping, beaches, nightclubs and shopping! Roberto tries to tell her that is not reality. In the end, Roberto does not tell her the truth and they do not have sex. Sounds like a win win to me.
The last scene sees Alicia at a restaurant meeting with an "ex" advertising exec from Madelén. She says with his proposal, she could kill two birds with one stone: get an account for Icónika and set up the campaign on autism. She has him swear that he has nothing to do with Madelén. He says he doesn't. As telenovela luck would have it, Sandra and Augusto are having dinner at the same restaurant. They see Alicia and Sandra identifies the executive as being from Madelén. Sandra says I told you so. Augusto's interest is piqued. He is pissed. They leave. Sandra smiles.
What I found out tonight in #65:
Back at the restaurant, the Madelén executive proposes that he and Alicia open their own agency. Alicia is not interested. It took tons of work to get where she is now at Icónika. They would also need clients. He suggests that she just take some of Icónika's with her. She lets him my know her principles would never let her do that. She leaves.
Luciana gets sunburned on her honeymoon. Roberto takes the opportunity to try to have sex with her (sure!!) but she is in too much pain. Maybe they can finally talk. Roberto gets a phone call from his lawyer telling him that he thinks the Vidals (but he is not sure) have used their very impressive clout and are about to adopt his son right out from under him. The lawyer says it is super hush hush. He has never seen anything like it. He will try to get more info on who is behind it all if he can. Roberto tells Luciana they have to go back to DF because of his son. Yes, son! Luciana thinks that now that they should have talked. Again, they have their whole lives to find out about each other. Roberto tells her that if she wants to stay on the beach she can, he is going back. She ends up going with him.
That same night Alicia goes home to find out that from Elsa that Ximena has recovered and is her old self. Now the problem is with Nacho. He just is not he same. Elsa thinks he misses driving his taxi. Alicia asks Magos if she has talked with the credit card company about her balance. It is the usual Magos blah blah as she says she will call tomorrow. Just at that moment Augusto calls and wants to see Alicia at the API offices immediately. Augusto meets with Alicia to lecture her on loyalty and not biting the hand that feeds you. He talks of betrayal and its high price as he plays with a letter opener. She suspects he must have seen her with the rep from Madelén and tells him about the meeting and how it failed because she has her principles. She is not traitor.
Alicia talks to Fátima about the autism campaign and how she is looking for somebody who could support it on a grand scale. Fátima suggests she work with Sandra because of all of the connections, experience, influence she has. Fátima tells her how good Sandra was in helping her grandson Claudio. Also, she backed a campaign to support Claudio's school but the it ended up going with Madelén. Alicia asks if Fátima has talked about autism with Chuchette. She says no. With Chuchette it is best to just talk about work period. Alicia now knows who set her up.
Alicia storms into Sandra's office and calls Sandra out on having set her up with the executive from Madelén so Augusto would see then. Sandra smirks and 'fesses up to having done it. Alicia says she knows why Sandra treats her like she does because she is afraid that one day she Alicia will take her job. Alicia disagrees with Sandra's claims that she is only a social climber; no, she is a professional that believes she can advance with hard work. Sandra tells her she is going to have to sacrifice many things. Alicia goes for the jugular and tells her that she has no intention of ending up like her being divorced without ever being able to have a family and now completely alone. Fátima flinches. Sandra ask Alicia: What do you know about me anyway? Fátima tries to put an end to the discussion asking them to calm down and not say the things like those that are being said. Alicia says she will not allow Sandra to make her look bad in front of Augusto. Sandra tells her then to put forth the effort and work harder and stop complaining. Alicia says that she used to admire Sandra for he capacity and effort. She has nothing to admire about her for anymore. She warns her to not to try to hobble her career. Sandra tells her she does not care about her career. If it is not important then why does Sandra bother to mess with her? Alicia cannot believe that Sandra a woman, a winner as she says, would attack her in this way. Fátima escorts Alicia out of Sandra's office.
At the mansion, Beatriz confides in Rafael that she knows all about Augusto's affairs and has even thought of divorce but that would be a sin. He (and Valeria later) suggests she talk to a therapist. Beatriz ends up in a therapist's office. She ends up kneeling with the therapist as she feels more comfortable. He guesses her son is gay. He wants to talk about her husband. Beatriz bolts with an "Hasta nunca" (see you never).
Outside of Sandra's office, Fátima calls Alicia out on the way she treated Sandra. She tells Alicia how unfair she was and how she hurt her. Alicia is a totally bitchy about it at first. Fátima reminds her that Sandra is much older than Alicia. She has worked hard and suffered a lot to get where she is. Her marriage failed and she has given everything to her profession. When she goes home at night she is all alone. Furthermore, she is always ready to help others like her grandson Claudio. Would she do these things if she had a heart of stone?? This gets to Alicia so Alicia goes back and apologizes to Sandra. Alicia tells us that she had not forgotten her values. She was very unfair. She asks Sandra to forgive her. Augusto comes by looking for Sandra when Fátima tells him that she is having coffee with Alicia. Augusto looks surprised. It turns out that Alicia and Sandra have a serious discussion about if women can have it all/do it all. According to Sandra something always has to be sacrificed. What about famous women who seem to do it all asks Alicia. Sandra asks her if she knows any of them personally. Sa era does not believe the hype. Does Alicia know one woman close to her who has been able to do it all without putting something on the side? Sandra asks her to think of her own mother and all of the effort it takes to be a good mother and wife. She wants Alicia to be aware of the tremendous effort it takes to try to have it all and that is why so many women end up getting divorced. Alicia says she always thought it was just a matter of being organized. No, it is more than that. What about Fátima? She could have been a great executive but with the work involved she had to choose between a more demanding executive job and her children. Alicia says she understands Sandra's point of view much better now. Alicia agrees not to disrespect her and her personal life and Sandra will not impede her progress. Sandra agrees and also tells Alicia she has to admit that Alicia is talented. Sandra does not want Alicia to think they will ever be best friends but she will respect Alicia's space and expects the same from her.
More nonsense with Brisas and Braulio, chakras, etc. They finally kiss so the nonsense must have worked.
Nacho is having a hard time and is sick and tired of Elsa and and her attitude at the café ordering him around and talking to him as if he were a child. Magos has to tell them to lower their voices so the customers don't hear them. Their customers are 't there for long: free coffee at the new Peoples' Café empties their café of all the customers it had.
Elías wants Néstor to do an Internet search on the domain name "Icónika USA". He tells Néstor it has to do with Icónika's expansion. Néstor says that he heard Augusto mention a USA expansion once but that was all. Elías lies and says he Elías is interested in opening a branch in the USA. Is Néstor interested? He is ready to sign on the line. Well, the first thing they need to do is see if the domain name is taken. It would not be good to suggest a domain name to Augusto if it is already taken. Evidently Elías is wondering if what Sandra told him is true. Seems that it is because Néstor does the search and finds that the name is already taken. as a matter of fact a web page in under construction. Elías looks surprised. Néstor says they will have to get a new name when they pitch their expansion plan to Augusto. Elías ends up callin Icónika USA. He just is calling to see if they have anything to do with the Mexican ad agency Icónika. When they refuse to tell him he says that he knows they cannot give him that kind of info so he congratulates them on Augusto's part for having done their job. He calls them with all due respect "loyal dogs." Elías has a lot to think about.
Roberto arrives at the orphanage just to discover that Mateo is no longer at the orphanage. A couple has adopted him.

I agree, Ingrid and Arath gave us some very funny stuff these episodes. They were fun to watch. Ingrid looks like she's having a ball in this role.
I have really liked the addition of Rafael and Valeria. They just might fix the Mexico Mondragon family-- well, fix Bea, support Dafne, help them reconcile with Alex, and kick Augusto to the curb. Of course, Rafael himself will be deeply wounded when he finds out Luci is really Augusto's. Not looking forward to that.
Augusto must be behind this adoption. But where the heck is Mateo?
Why does this question about women having/doing it all never involve men doing more. If both people do more, then both people can have more. Anyway, we're also struggling with that question here, so I don't see Alicia and Sandra finding the magical answer. Really, it's up to each woman to do what works for her.
Certainly, having a ten year affair with a married man who is your boss, is NOT a wise life decisions. If Sandra had put as much effort into her marriage as she did into her affair and keeping Augusto happy, I bet she an Elias would be a happy couple now.
It befuddles me the Superwoman argument but primarily because there is no corresponding Superman argument. Over on Pasion y ponder you have a guy that has spent 25 years building his professional career, providing for the family and forfeited all the domestic duties and child rearing to his wife yet there was some argument the wife contributed little to the success because he chose said mother and wife in error since several of the children are causing problems as adults. Daddy wasn't home but everybody expected that daddy wouldn't be. If a man wants to rock it professionally and have a family but always takes on a little woman for the domestic chores and child rearing, is it because they cannot do both or because they are lazy and not committed and use it as an excuse? I think they do and think Sandra was lazy and not committed and using it as an excuse and the only butt she should kick is her own, it's too late.
Roberto (fake) trying to make love to sunburned Luciana was a hoot.
Nope, Alicia should not have slammed Sandra's personal life, but Sandra has been so mean to Alicia that I didn't mind. Plus, since Sandra has in her own words "devoted herself to her career," why was said career woman so dumb as not to see Alicia's value to the company? She should've been mentoring Alicia instead of dissing her.
Everybody has their own choices to make. There's no one answer, but having an affair - for 10 years! - with a married man is nuts. For me, neither Sandra nor Alicia right now are good role models. I liked that shampoo entrepreneur - she was fun.
You really put me in the Christmas spirit with "In the end, Roberto does not tell her the truth and they do not have sex. Sounds like a win win to me". Most excellent!
I'm totally with you on Ingrid. I'm disappointed with just about everyone here (including the all too serious, businesslike, lacking in sweetness Alicia), but Ingrid continues to delight with every facial contortion, squee and sigh.
Did Alicia go too far with Sandra? Perhaps. But Niecie, I totally agree with you that I didn't mind a bit. She had it coming. Sandra made her attacks purely personal and Alicia retaliated in kind. As I noted above, I want Alicia to shed her cookie cutter beyotch attire and dress a little more professionally to showcase her mind, not her body. I even miss that darn headband.
I am really curious as to who the adopters are...
I feel that we as women, are overachievers - no easy feat. Is it because it's expected, is it because we want to, or is it innate?
Jarifa, thank you, thank you!
Merry Christmas Eve all.
Diana
I, like everyone else do not know who got custody of Mateo but my guess is that Agusto is behind it as well as the competing coffee shop. Agusto uses his money and power to bring people under his control.
I'm a Maite fanatic but at this point I have to say that Ingrid Martz is stealing the show. She is playing her Luciana character to the hilt. I can't wait night after night to see what she will be up to next.
Alicia the all to serious, businesslike, lacking the sweetness that she once had.
I think that those things come with the territory. When one is starting out or are on the bottom--near the bottom, as a rule or in general, you are sweet and charming.
However when you move up to the top or near the top, you have much more responsibility resting on your shoulders. You have to make tough decisions that not only affect you but often several of your coworkers as well. deadlines have to be met and customers must be kept happy---or else! Sweetness? I have rarely met a sweet boss or company project leader. I liked the college girl look as well as the early sweetness but Alicia is a manager now so the college girl look had to go and a more serious work attitude had to be developed.
must see tv

Tofie, Vivi: I find it really troubling that in this country in the 21st century, I still hear women my age and younger talk about their husbands "helping out around the house". These women all work full time jobs, too. Why do males enjoy a sense of entitlement? How were they raised? I will step off my soap box now.
Niecie, Diana, I agree with you both that Alicia went too far but after all Sandra put her through, I can't blame her. I am happy they finally understand each other.
Gringo, excellent analysis of Alicia and her new position. I think it will be a while before Alicia is going to be able to moderate her new authority and not be constantly on the defense. Too many snakes n the grass right now.
As for Ingrid Martz, I love the fact that she being a beautiful woman will basically look anyway, sound anyway, do anything to get a laugh. She is the best I have seen in a long time.
Happy holidays to all!
Just wanted to cruise on in here and add my two cents in that it's nice to see the love for Ingrid Martz, who's proven herself to be a true comedic genius who can hold her own with ANYBODY!
Interesting to note that her career as a comedic actress has really only just begun. After doing some solid work in supporting roles (and being 'protagonista' in one novela- 'Zacatillo, un lugar en tu corazon', which was shown in the afternoon down here and also featured Laura Zapata playing Laura Zapata (seriously, is she not like the Jack Nicholson of novelas?? Whether it's 'Rosa salvaje' or 'Maria Mercedes' or 'La intrusa', 'Sonar no cuesta nada' or 'La gata' she plays the SAME... DAMN... THING... ALL OF THE TIME!!)), it was, perversely, that abominations known as CI where she first showed her chops, making Doris (or, as she was known here "#ShutUpDoris") much more entertaining and interesting than she should have been. From there, she was cast as Minerva (who was like Doris on steroids) in QPTR, where she showed that she could even steal the show from the likes of Jaime Camil. Luciana is a natural progression from there and, I agree with you all, she's absolutely brilliant here.
I look forward to seeing where her career will take her from here on in.
Nice to see Chantal Andere here, too. I know that 'Marimar' is the role with which she became world-famous (seriously, have you seen all the Angelica memes there are out there??), but I cherish her most as the almost unspeakably vile and evil Leonor in 'Sentimentos Ajenos' (Carlos Ponce fans take note! He was the galan here...). What an absolutely classic death she attained: her numerous crimes and murders having been exposed, Leonor fled to their old offices to curse the protagonistas and plot her next move. Just then, she hears something... men in the abandoned building! Being wanted by the police, Leonor runs and hides in a closet. Through a crack in the closet, she watches the men suit up and begin to move furniture, including pushing a heavy desk up against the doors where she is hiding. As she's pondering what to do, they put their masks on and fire up their chemicals... they're exterminators gassing for bugs. Leonor starts coughing and banging the doors but with the noise the exterminators are making they can hear nothing. So Leonor winds up dead in the closet, gassed like the vermin that she was with all the other cockroaches.
Classic!!
My continued best wishes to all!! :-)
