Antes muerta que Lichita #69 Wednesday 12/30/15. "Strangers in the Night ( continued ) Sha la la la la . . ."

Before anything else, I want to wish you all a healthy and happy 2016!

Is it too early to start thinking about an anvil for Augusto????? I think not.

Whoopsie! I mistakenly called Rafael Gabriel for much of the recap: he still is Valeria's husband and Luciana's  "dad" who was aggravated to and left for dead by Augusto.   : )

Now back to the story . . .

The lights are still out. Augusto comes looking for Alicia and just as he sneaks up on her in the dark, the lights go on and it is presentation time. Everyone is happy happy with the OkiOki presentation . Alicia tells us her transformation from Lichita to Alicia is complete but as of today it is the beginning of the end of a love that could never be or will be. Luciana is clearly not enjoying the presentation.

Back at the mansion they all arrive home from the OkiOki presentation. As Beatriz, Augusto, Dafne, Roberto amd Luciana all come in, Valeria wonders why Gabriel did not come. Valeria called him during the evening and he never answered. Luciana tells her to cut the drama. Valeria calls Gabriel then and there and they hear the phone ring. She says it must be in their room where Gabriel must be sleeping like a log. Augusto gets an uncomfortable look on his face. Suddenly they all decide to retire for the night. Dafne decides to eat supper by herself. Valeria arrives in Augusto's and Beatriz's room crazed with worry over the missing Gabriel. He was not in their room.Augusto says no big deal he probably went out on the town and forgot his phone. Dafne arrives to see if they found Rafael and if they looked for him everywhere in the house. Dafne takes it upon herself to look around the mansion and finds Gabriel dead on the floor where Augusto left him. She becomes hysterical amd starts to scream. They all come in. Valeria tries to talk to Rafael. Luciana is in shock and says he must be asleep, right?

Alicia is helping wipe dishes at home as Elsa tells her all that she needs now with her great new job is someone to share it all with. Nacho is not too sure. Alicia sides with Nacho: no time at all for a boyfriend now with all she has to do at work. Alicia has an idea to market her parents' café. No worries. She will implement it tomorrow. Brisas and Braulio will help créate the ads which will be placed on the internet. They are happy to help. Añicia asks if there is something going on between them. Brisas explains their "free" relationship.

Next morning, Roberto calls Ikónika with news of Gabriel's death. Alicia is reading her front page coverage about her presentation and other gossip in the newspaper with her parents at the café. Fátima calls with the news of Gabriel's death.

At the funeral, Chuchette and Néstor offer their sympathy to Luciana whose only response is "okay." No emotion from her. She simply "okays" everybody. Chuchette had Botox so she just keeps grinning. Dafne and Valeria are the most upset. All are shocked when Alex comes in with Kenny to offer Augusto his condolences. Augusto and Beatriz ask them to go. Dafne sticks up for Alex. Alex hugs Valeria on the way out. Alicia and Alex catch up outside of the wake. He congratulates her on taking care of business. Alicia tells him Dafne needs him more than ever and not to give up on her. Beatriz feels bad running off Alex. Augusto defends their decision. Dafne is so upset because Rafael was like a father to her. Luciana hears that and starts in on Dafne blaming her for having let Rafael die and says that she will have to live with that for the rest of her life. It must have been Dafne's fault because she left him all alone in the house. Dafne liked to play with Gabriel's pill box so that is probably why he did not have it when he needed it. She killed him. She will have to live with that for the rest of her life. Beatriz finally comes to rescue Dafne and take her to pray at the coffin. Luciana is falling apart in her very Luciana way.

BTW, "La Costeña" products are on display at the Gutiërrez café. "Special K" embedded commercial with Fátima, receptionists and Alicia outside of Icónika.

Magos goes to work as a barista at the Peoples' Café. Magos expects to rob them of all their recipes and secrets. Elsa and Nacho tell her that that is more like something Ximena would come up with, not a grown woman like she is.Magos tells them just wait. She is going to help them out. After Magos leaves, Nacho tells Elsa Magos is HER daughter. Elsa asks if he had nothing to do with it. At the Peoples' Café, Magos seems to be having a hard time following the orders and especially smiling. It seems to be part of a twisted Magos plan to disappoint the customers at the People's Cafë so she can send the unhappy customers go to her parents' café. She seems to be successful in disappointing the customers, anyway. Later in the episode, Magos finds out she can get a commission for the number of drinks she sells and other benefits. (Will that change her plan?)

Augusto thanks them all for coming to his brother Gabriel's funeral.Sandra gives Augusto a hug on the way out, then Alicia. Sandra looks at the hug knowingly. Augusto seeme to enjoy Alicia's hug. Luciana is not talking much. Augusto excuses himself to go "rest". Luciana is so upset she tells Roberto cannot have sex with him. She needs to be alone. It is his turn to be understanding.

Sandra and Augusto are together. Sandra asks Augusto if someday Augusto will tell Luciana that he is her real father. Maybe yes, maybe no. Augusto is more interested in having sex (consolation) with Sandra. He says he was thinking of her at the funeral home. Kissy face time!

It late at night and Alicia and Nacho are both still up. Nacho is still upset with Magos. Alicia tells him Magos is trying to help in her own way: at least she will bring in some money. In light of Gabriel's death, Nacho talks about parents dying: most natural thing in the world: parents come here first so they are the first to leave. (too depressing for me)

Tomorrow is payday for Alicia. It will be the first one since she was named General Creative Director. She cannot wait to see her raise to help out her parents. When tomorrow arrives, it seems like there was not a big enough raise in her check. The payroll accountant tells her he does not decide the salaries and what is she complaining about anyway? She is making more than she was. It seeme that Roberto Is still making much more than she is and their jobs are basically the same. Alicia asks why? Answer: he is a man. (why does that not surprise me?)

Roberto tells Gumaro how "blocked" Luciana is and how she didn't even shed a tear. Gumaro says w Roberto always said Luciana was a little bit strange. Gumaro is licking a big yellow ice bar (paleta) He has to tell Roberto about how he had to come to Icónika because there were no lights and how "all cats are brown (the same) at night". We think he is going to talk about kissing Luciana but he is off to the refrig for a red paleta.  So  now, he is licking two in his messy slurpy Gumaro way.  Roberto talks about how it is killing him not seeing Mateo. Gumaro gives Roberto the freshly licked red paleta but Roberto never gets to do the "double licking" because his phone rings. The phone call is from Venus. She has news: the Vidals are back. Roberto goes to talk with Venus in person and sees the Vidals leaving with a child but the child is not Mateo.

Where is Mateo?

So, the Vidals do not have Mateo. Even if Augusto is behind it all, where is Mateo staying?

Thanks to all the recappers for excellent coverage over the past week or so. Your work made it possible to keep over the Christmas holiday.

I am very upset that Augusto allowed/caused Gabriel to die in both mental and physical agony. Gabriel really wanted to reconcile, while Augusto maintained a heart of stone. Especially sad for Daphne and the effect on her.

Really appreciate this Jarifa, thank you

"Luciana is falling apart in her very Luciana way"

Chuchette with her "Joker" mask from the Botox at the funeral was brilliant.

I hoped all along the Vidals and Roberto would come to an agreement so the two friends, Thomas and Mateo, could remain in each others life. Well, Thomas is with the Vitals but wonder if Thomas knows what happened to Mateo?

Augusto was about to get grabby and take his prize, great the lights came on. Twice now, Alicia feels something odd about Augusto's attention.

Actually thought it clever Magos came up with her plan to become a mole. I say Peoples Cafe flips her and she becomes a double agent in a barista apron.

Augusto of course doesn't defend Dafne, it gives him cover.

Does Augusto throw a penniless Valeria out or keeps her in his harem as his child's mother sworn to secrecy? Bereft as she is it must have crossed her mind. Rafael wanted the proceeds of the home sale so they could leave Augusto's and Valeria really didn't want to leave.

Ezra, thank you for your terrific recap. I just posted a (late) comment.

Jarifa, thank you for handling a very difficult episode so deftly. You intertwined so many interesting facts and observations including: "BTW, "La Costeña" products are on display at the Gutiërrez café. "Special K" embedded commercial..." that took a bit of the sting out of the painful wound of Gabriel's death.

I really thought Gabriel would not die. I kept waiting for Augusto to relent, come to his senses and give him the pill. How could he hate his own brother so deeply? Yes, La Paloma, he did die in mental and physical agony. Augusto ensured that and what he revealed (to me) was equally as dastardly as the murder itself.

I don't love Luci but I think she was grief stricken. Granted, in her own twisted way. While it was detestable she tried to blame Dafne, lashing out in such a bitter, hurtful way was not a surprise. As you noted perfectly Jarifa "Luciana is falling apart in her very Luciana way". I never expect anything kind from Luci and thus far, I have never been disappointed. No expectations, no disappointments.

I am trying to search for anything that might give comfort to Valeria. Could it possibly be that Luci really is Gabriel's daughter? In any event, my heart goes out to Valeria and to Dafne.

Now I'm a peaceful person and do not believe in violence. However, I wanted to smack the snot out of Chuchette's botoxed face. That character was never as cringeworthy as she was last night. She and Nestor are horrid.

As long as I'm cranky, let's talk about Alex. Ummm, did anyone else notice he walked right by Alicia without saying a word?? She had to go after him. I'm still ticked off that he continues to ignore Dafne. She really needs him now - I hope he will be more available.

No equal pay for equal work: "Alicia asks why? Answer: he is a man. (why does that not surprise me?)". Sigh.

"Augusto is more interested in having sex (consolation) with Sandra". Snap out of it Sandra. Get back to business and try to build a life for yourself outside Satan's grasp. He will be trying to dump you momentarily anyway.

Well at least we had Gumaro doing a good job of slurping on the two popsicles.

I guess I should comment on Magos and Roberto but I would rather save my words for those who are truly hurting - Dafne and Valeria.

I wish everyone a happy, healthy and joyous New Year!

Thanks again Jarifa.

Diana

Jarifa- Thanks so much for this fantastic recap. I haven't watched yet, so I was very sad to read that Rafael (I don't believe it's Gabriel) really did die. I most devastated for Dafne, who REALLY needed him, more than I am for Luci and Valeria, although I'm sure that the two of them are really hurting. Who will be there for Dafne now? Both Alicia and Alex seem too caught up in their own drama to help this teen they have both sworn to support.

Thanks, Vivi! It is Rafael!

Thanks Jarifa---Luciana is falling apart in her very Luciana way. A great line that really stood out Jarifa. I had wondered why all that we got last night was ok's from Lucy, now I understand. I also now understand why Chuchette couldn't stop smiling. So it was Botox. But still, no excuse for Nestor's terrible attitude at the wake.

Wow! Quite a comment Diana. I think that you got everything in.

I am the only one that even half way sticks up for Margos, but when I saw her working over at the competition all that I could do is say NO MAGOS NO---HOW COULD YOU DO THAT TO YOUR FAMILY??? Well thanks Jarifa, I can now breath easy on this New Years Eve. Magos is trying to help in her own Magos kind of way. Steal the recipes and drive the customers away. Can't wait to see where this goes.

Yes---Where is Mateo?

Happy New Year everyone.

must see tv
the gringo

gringo, yes "Magos is trying to help in her own Magos kind of way" - exactly!

The character doesn't bother me. I find her very likeable although I haven't always liked everything she has done. Now, Chuchette and Nestor darken my day simply by appearing on my screen! :)

Diana

Gringo- I don't think there has been any Magos bashing since she starting looking after her daughter and started working, after the accident (she provoked). But I'm not going to praise her either, for doing the minimum that any parent should do-- care for their kid and work. That deserves a pat on the head, not a standing ovation.

I sure agree with those of you who are concerned about Dafne with Rafael's death since Alicia and Alex are incapable of fulfilling her needs due to "their own drama" as Vivi so well put it. Also, I feel sorry for Chuchette. Rafael was starting to turn her in the right direction.

Gringo, I sort of got a kick out of Magos and her initial infiltration plan at the Peoples' Café. It is so in keeping with her "on the edge" "never completely honest". "less than ethical" code. She is a conniver pure and simple just like Roberto (as has been pointed out by someone before). I would expect nothing different from her at this point. I sure hope she is able to turn the tide of customers. Along with Alicia's internet ads, who knows? The Gutiérrez café might still have a chance.

Thanks, tofie, for identifying the Vidals adopted son as Tomás Mateo's friend.

La Paloma, Augusto sure proved himself to be a murderous rat. He has proved himself to be more dangerous than what I had previously thought.

Diana, I so agree that Sandra needs to "snap out of it" ASAP. In the avances, Augusto asks Alicia if she would be open to moving and working in the USA.

Thanks for the great recap of a very hard episode.

I cried for Dafne and Valeria. I too was hoping Rafael wasn't dead and would somehow survive. Will the truth of his death ever be exposed?

Poor Dafne. I hope she is able to shake off Lucis words.

I kinda felt like Augie was thinking of Alicia when he went after Sandra.

I hope Tomas knows what happened to Mateo. I'm surprised the Vidals changed course without telling Rob or his lawyer.

Thanks, Jarifa. Terrific recap of a sad and hectic episode.

I too am wondering who will be there for Daphne, besides Alicia who is quite busy. Will Alex rise up to take on his dad?

Cheers for Magos going undercover at the rival café! Yep, but will she turn turncoat?

Everybody handles grief in their own way. But Augusto telling Sandra that he was thinking about getting it on with her while at his brother's funeral should've given her pause. Who is this heartless man I've been boinking for 10 years?

Carvivlie, good point about Augusto thinking of Alicia going after Sandra. You are probably right.

Niecie, "boinking" describes it perfectly re: Augusto and Sandra; probably Augusto with anybody.
