Pasión y Poder #25 Wednesday 20151209 It's Episode 25, Christmas is on the 25th! Coincidence? I Think Not! Maribel is Dead...I Hope! Yeah Baby!
Julia asks her ex-fiance to take a David's.Not.Art's kid test. She explains that Eladio doesn't believe David is his. He thinks that Dave is Art's son. Anyway, from what Julia says, Art visited her a few days before the wedding and Eladio found out about it. Art came to beg her forgiveness and ask her to call off the wedding. Art remembers that they merely kissed, but she didn't "give it up" that day. Art asks Julia why she didn't forgive him. Why didn't she call off the wedding? Does he really have to ask? Duh! She reminds him that she was pissed because he impregnated another woman while they were engaged. Julia admits that she was still angry with him and only married Eladio to hurt him the way that her had hurt her. Julia tells Art that she takes Eladio's abuse for Dave's sake. She wants him to have a relationship with his father. Julia ask Art to forgive her for not forgiving him. Living with Eladio has been a b*tch. Eladio won't take the test because he doesn't want to be a joke...a cuckhold. The results will change Dave's life.
Art agrees to take the DNA test. Julia says that Dave can't ever know about this. She almost slips and tells Art that Dave and Regina are an item.
Side note: Since I have some suspicions as well, I suggest that he also swab for a Dani'sNotArt's test along with an Erick'sNotArt's, a MiguelNotArt's and a Regina'sNotArt's test. If the results are what I think, that will explain a whole lot.
Julia asks Art not to do it if he thinks it will cause him trouble. She tells him that Eladio is violent. Art mutters that he will kill Eladio if he ever touches her agian. Art tells Julia that they would have been great together with a beautiful family. Before parting, Art caresses Julia's face. He leans in 90% of the way for a goodbye kiss and waits for Julia to come in the other 10. (This is called the "Hitch" first kiss lesson).
Julia does not move her head in his direction, but she extended those lips so far that she gets permanent stretch marks from that kiss.

Casa Montenegro
Petra taunts and supervises Dani while she scrubs the foyer floor on her hands and knees. Dani is wearing designer jeans and some fabulous stilettoes. Anyway Dani breaks a nail and starts screaming. She says that she will never clean again once her father stops being pissed. Petra runs off to answer the phone. Clara walks into the mansion without knocking and mistakes Dani for a maid. Where are their body guards? Who just walks into to someone's house? She wants Dani to show her to Connie's room. Finally, she recognizes Dani as a wedding guest at Connie and Erick's wedding. While Dani runs off to fix her nail, Petra escorts Clara up to Connie's room and enters without knocking. What is wrong with these people? No one tells a maid to knock?
After Petra leaves, Connie tells Clara that she's knocked up and very happy. Connie is on bedrest. Connie thinks that the baby will save her marriage. Clara says that Connie is cute and she can do a hell of a lot better that Erick. Connie doesn't want to do better, she wants to be with Erick. Clara tells Connie that she's traveling to Acapulco this weekend with Francisco. They're going to check on Maribel.
Later, Miguel brings Connie a gift. Connie tells Mike that she needs him to stop stalking her. His staring at her and drooling is making her husband irritable and it makes her uncomfortable. She wants to save her marriage, so they can't be friends anymore. Miguel's upset because Connie's not doing this because she wants to do it; she's doing it because her husband ordered her to stop being friends with him. Connie says that she really wants to make her marriage work, so she's gonna need Miguel to stop stealing and sniffing her underwear too. Miguel agrees to stop secretly videotaping her while she showers and sleeps and hopes that she has a healthy baby and nice life.
The Ratt Hole
Aldo and the Ratt return to her condo. Aldo sends the Ratt a copy of the files that he photographed. The Ratt pours herself a drink and reviews the files on her phone. They can't wait to tell Erick that his wife was raised in an orphanage after she was rescued from a brothel. They toast and both drink out of the same glass. He didn't check for cooties first. Ewww!
Francisco's Condo
Dave tells Gina that she's beautiful and that earns him some smoochies. She confesses that Miguel knows that they are back together again. He informs her that he told his mom that she's still his boo and his mother will support their love. He gets some more smoochies. Gina says that she doesn't have a good relationship with her mother. They agree that they both like kids and want a lot of them. Smooches.
Montenegro Home Office
Once again, Art, the CEO of a major corporation and his President, Augustin are sitting around eating ice cream, painting their nails and discussing their feelings. Art tells Rev. Auggie that Julia wants him to get a David'sNotArt's test because Eladio believes that Dave is Art's son. Rev. Auggie tells him to stay out of it and concentrate on his own wife and family. Art can't because he still has the hots for Julia. She stirs up his loins. Little Arturo has started to move again. Art admits that he kissed Julia; he can't resist her. Rev. Augie reminds Art that both parties are married and Eladio will kill him dead if he finds out. Art agrees to work on his marriage and pay attention to his own spawn. He can't tell Erick one thing and do another. He will still take the test to help her and nothing else.
Erick walks in. He wants to know why his office is occupied by someone else. Art reminds him that he was demoted for committing embezzlement and fraud. It had slipped Erick's mind since yesterday. Anyway, Art tells Erick to ask his boss Augustin where he would like him to sit and what he wants him to do. Augie tells him to go to his office and review some files on his desk.
Once Erick leaves, Art instructs Augie to watch Erick closely. Augie tells Art that he needs his permission to be tough on Erick. Art agrees. If they Erick doesn't change now that he's reached his forties, how will he act when he grows up?
Finally some ruthless business talk. Art answers the phone and gives Augustin the thumbs up sign. They've managed to stop Eladio's construction project. Eladio will lose a whole lot of cash and time. Art says that he doesn't want to bother Eladio because he takes his anger out on Julia. Rev. Augie says "oh well"!
Erick enters again. He tells his father that Eladio's construction project has been stopped. Art tells Erick to get back to work. They already know that, thank you. If he was concentrating on his assigned work, Erick would never have known that. Erick says, "but I'm your right-hand man!" Eladio corrects Erick and tells him that "you were my right hand man!" Erick is shocked and leaves.
Augustin shows Art something on his tablet. They think it's awesome that Eladio is losing a bundle. Art admits that it's revenge for what Eladio did to Erick.
Erick returns and finds Rev. Augustin sitting alone. Erick wants to know why Art is being a hard-ass. He's forgotten since a minute ago when his father explained it to him. It's his ADD. Rev. Augustin reminds him that he embezzled from the company and sold secrets to the competition. Augie speaks slowly so Erick can understand. Erick's thinks his dad is being too hard on him, so Rev. Augie uses the tablet to draw a picture. He tells Erick that Art stopped the construction project because he loves him. Art wanted to get revenge for Erick. Work hard and you will earn his trust back. Erick gets a stupid look on his face.
Montenegro Water Fountain
Petra and Dani clean the water fountain. Nina walks through the garden wearing a black helicopter hat with a sea-foam silk maxi dress. I don't know why. I'm just a reporter. Dani complains to her mother about all the work she's doing around the house. She'd rather go to the convent or rehab. Dani wants her mother to help her get out of working. Nina says that she can't help her. Art has been acting really weird lately and she doesn't know why.
GLA
Franco can't stop the demonstration. The rich people are upset because Eladio is building 300 condos and the neighborhood feels that it will bring in a lot of traffic. Eladio tells Franco to bribe the Housing Commissioner by building two more condos and giving them to him. Franco says that the commissioner will not be bribed. Later, Franco brings Eladio a report with a list of all the protesters. Eladio realizes that one of the organizer is the owner of the mall and a friend of Art's. The guy is basically one of Art's business partners. Eladio now realizes that the demonstration is Art's revenge for Erick. He yells at Franco because he was too confident and let his guard down. Eladio wants to know what he's paying Franco for. He tells him that he's disappointed in him. He hasn't been able to stop the demonstration. The officials won't even take a bribe. Franco returns with a thumb drive and puts it in Eladio's computer. He brings up a profit and loss report. Eladio is pissed. Franco touches his hand and tries to tell Eladio all the things that he's done to stop the protestors. Eladio says it doesn't matter, he's still a moron.
Franco goes back to his glass office and complains to Gaby about Eladio. He also says that Dave should be here. He says that Dave is irresponsible. Gaby raises her voice in defense of her cousin and says that Dave is independent and doesn't need Eladio's money like some people. Gaby walks off. Franco yells Gaby's name. No one in the office seems to notice or care about a screaming match between the CEO's relatives.
Marintia, the secretary with benefits, visits Franco in his office and it appears that she's been shopping at the new Fredrick's of Hollywood Boutique for Business Professionals/Hookers. It's black, low-cut, shear and lacy. Anyways, Franco complains that Eladio threatened to fire him. She and her bare breasts assure him that Eladio won't fire him because Franco is his right had man.
Franco returns to Eladio's office for more abuse. Franco blames David for not being there. Eladio tells Franco to Think! Think! Think! and not try to find a scapegoat at this time. He continues to blame Franco. Finally Eladio calls Rueda and sets up a 10 minute appointment with someone named Santiago. If you want crime done right, you have to do it yourself. Franco offers to go with him, but Eladio impolitely declines. He promises to get revenge on Art and anyone who has helped him. He tells Franco to learn from this.
For some reason, Francisco and Clara are strolling by the coy pond. Franco explains that as an executive in a mobster organization, he get to stay in a two-bedroom
WTF Family
Maribel is telling Justino what a great time she's having. All of a sudden she starts breathing heavily. Justin finally gets a clue (after she tells him that she dying) that something is seriously wrong with his wife. He begins to cry and grabs her hand while she gives the longest I'm About to Die speech ever. Anyways, she pulls the little shell necklace off her neck and makes him swear about some stuff. Don't be sad, remember this day (like he'd forget that his wife dropped dead on the beach) and find another women (he's a man, he's probably already got another one...ahem, I'm not bitter). Anyways, about 10 or 15 minutes into this excruciating oration, Lucita walks over and notices that her mother is about to croak. She's starts whining too. Maribel makes the kid promise a lot of stuff as well. Remember the stars. I'll be a star in heaven after I die! Before she shuts up, she asks Justino to pick her up take her to the sea for the last time. He takes her limp body and walks into the ocean while the kid stays on the shore. He's all crying and stuff. I can't guarantee that she died, but all signs are pointing to it. The bucket was laying on it's side this time.

Goodbye Maribel, you perfectly disposable character, you! The TN could’ve started with Justino being a recently widowed father and we would not have missed a beat! I would’ve felt more of an emotional connection to this character had she been portrayed differently. The glycerin tears tattooed to her face but invisible most of the time to her family were irritating! The little child is really cute, so that’s a consolation. Not the best actress, mind you, but she’s adorable!
The best parts of this episode for me were the ones starring Petra and her new apprentice, the spoiled Daniela waiting for Daddy’s mild annoyance with her antics to run its course. I want a spin-off show for these two!
Speaking of spoiled brats, I can’t believe Erick is giving his father attitude 24 hours after his gigantic screw-up! Is he for serious?
Julia and Arturo had me rolling my eyes so much, I won’t even go there! Agustín summed up my sentiment on the DNA test baloney: “A mí me parece una tontería! Solamente te vas a meter en broncas!” (To me this sounds like utter nonsense! You’re only gonna get yourself into trouble). Thank goodness for this silver-haired, silver-tongued prince! He is the true galán of this story, or rather the "sacerdote", Rev. Auggie as Cynderella likes to call him. Still, nobody heeds his advice; all he gets to do every episode is listen to Arturo talk such drivel and babysit his idiotic obnoxious son!
Delusional Consuelo ticked me off when she said that Erick made a mistake that can happen to anyone! Really, no biggie! She also seems convinced that he’ll never cheat on her again. Lady, brace yourself, for what’s coming ain’t gonna be pretty! Sorry to be harsh, but growing up without a family does not convert one into doormat! I hope she gets her wish and douchebag Erick receives a half-assed redemption at the end where he gets to retain some of his douchebaggery qualities and they stay together. Creepy Miguel is way too good for her anyway!
“A ver, Petra! Tienes que cantar cuando limpias? O sea, me taladras los oídos!”
(“Hey Petra! Do you have to sing when you’re cleaning? You’re piercing my eardrums!”)
A ver = Literally, “to see”; mostly used to mean: “Let’s see” or “Let me see”. Quite often though, it is also used as a filler word like “Mmmm”, “Well”, “Now / Now then” or as an interjection to get the attention of your interlocutor. During arguments, it means “Hold on a second!” or “Hey, come on!” and tends to be repeated 2 or 3 times for emphasis (“A ver, a ver, a ver!”)
Taladrar = The literal sense is to drill, “taladro” (nm) and “taladradora” (nf) being Spanish for power drill. Figuratively, “taladrar” means to pierce someone’s eardrums with a high-pitched voice or some other unpleasant noise.
I'm with you on the not knocking thing, NOBODY knocks! What's up with that and your treatment of "stop stalking me" conversation between David and Consuelo was perfect. Of course, he suddenly appeared in her doorway, not knocking as usual but YOU knocked it out of the park with your description of all the slimy things he's got to stop doing.
Miguel's upset because Connie's not doing this because she wants to do it; she's doing it because her husband ordered her to stop being friends with him.
WHAT? See. This is why grown folk need their own digs. I don't like Erick but pervy Mike is way out of line and deluded. When he took his glasses off he looked absolutely crazy! Instead of feeling sad, Connie ought to be petrified!
Monserat and her lap dog are pigs. How stupid is the staff person at the orphanage?
Not as stupid as Erick. He really doesn't understand why he's not Art's right hand man anymore and why Art is "so hard on him"? If Erick is this dense, what does that say about Art not recognizing it until now? Jeezopete!
This speaks for itself:
Fredrick's of Hollywood Boutique for Business Professionals/Hookers.
How long before all the women under 30 in these things all just skip the skimpy "dresses" and just don hooker wear?
Okay, not deep observations but I thoroughly enjoyed your retelling, Cynderella. Thank you!
Consuelo is delusional because she is too attached to the idea of having a faaaaamily. Considering the families we see in novelas all the time I believe the concept is highly over-rated. Having been born in a brothel and raised in an orphanage wasn't her fault, although we know that Nina and her Mini-me will try to make it sound like that. Nothing like more discord in that family.
Eladio is not being fair to Franco, either, but he treats everyone equally badly except for Julia, whom he tortures the most.
More later.
Erick is amazingly obtuse. I hope Rev Augie makes him really work for his reduced paycheck.
It's funny how all of Connie's three friends just shake their heads and frown each time she shares her happy family with Erick fantasy, and two of them are his siblings. She's in for a rude awakening.
Petra and Dani are a great comedic pair. Oh the indignity of being mistaken for the maid! :)
I could have cut and pasted everything but had to pare my favorites down to: “David's.Not.Art's kid test, “(This is called the "Hitch" first kiss lesson) (great movie) and of course, “Once again, Art, the CEO of a major corporation and his President, Augustin are sitting around eating ice cream, painting their nails and discussing their feelings”. Amazing.
Erick just doesn’t get it does he? Why he can’t comprehend that he betrayed his father for a few mere farthings? Did he think there would be no repercussions?
So the big reveal (not to us but….) is that Connie is from an orphanage and is from questionable parentage (?) Montse and her little ferret companion were acting as though they’d struck gold. I must be missing something.
I guess Eladio treats everyone like dirt. Angry and evil with little else.
And thank you for your definitive take on Maribel’s fate: “The bucket was laying on it's side this time”. ‘nuff said.
Inspired. Truly.
Diana
His "mistake" wasn't egregious. In such a situation one has to make a decision between researching every name on a list or bringing in the info quickly in case one's boss can immediately identify something. Eladio's lashing out at him was to show him his place, not because he screwed up. Had he taken another hour to find out more Eladio would have chewed him out for being late with the report. There was no way he could win this encounter.
"David's.Not.Art's kid test"
"she extended those lips so far that she gets permanent stretch marks from that kiss"
"The bucket was laying on it's side this time"
"Julia ask Art to forgive her for not forgiving him" You know, that tells me all I need to know about doormat Julia. I'm disappointed again in the roles SG is taking (absent Roberta in La Sombra though that show devolved into a mess). I didn't like her character in Por siempre mi amor and she's playing the same one here, she's better than this.
Boy Miguel has gone full on creepy. I was screaming for him to get out of Connie's bedroom.
Gawd, you just gotta love Erick. He's got a shorter memory than a quarterback that threw 12 interceptions in a row to the same guy.
If dying Maribel was a snake it would have bit Justin twenty times and he'd still not know what happened
I was kinda surprised Gaby defended David so vigorously so maybe Franco doesn't have as big a peepee as he believes
The DNA plays had me giggling, well this whole darn recap had me giggling. I'm sure you have to admit, this TN is just ripe for this type of snark. Down to the "do people not knock?" comments.
Except for David and Gina enjoying what will most likely be a brief moment of bliss, the rest of these people just made me eye-roll as well. We may all be making appointments at our resident optometrist from eye pain before this is over.
Erick has to be the dumbest jerk ever. St. Augustin should have let him stew in his stupidity for awhile and not make him feel all " your dad loves you."
Speaking of Artie--yeah, I see he and Julia and boy, not sure I can wrap my arms around these two until the realize their own behavior has been, and continues to be, far from ideal. And Julia just needs to stop with the "I want David to have a relationship with his father". yeah, the guy you just admitted abused you and gets violent. Good one chicka.
Connie is going to have to see Erick go all stupid again with the Ratt, which shouldn't take long since he is basically an imbecile. But cutting off Miguel as a friend, and you live in the SAME HOUSE, is ridiculous.
Loved the Dani cleaning with the stilettos.Lord. And the hat on Nina also had me...you guessed it, eye-rolling. Maybe it's actually a secret hat that zaps her every few minutes to age her backwards or helps her brain function. She should get Erick one for Christmas.
I'm still waiting to see where we go with this Maribel plot line, especially now that she's finally gone. Who will hubby hook up with? He's a cutie, so he'll get sandwiched in somewhere. So help me, it's Dani, I'll need someone to hold my arms down so I don't hurt something.
Daisynjay
Erick has no work ethic. His dad is a second-generation CEO and second-generation money and therefore Erick doesn't think he needs to do anything but enjoy the fruits of his father's and grandfather's work. We have Nina to thank for that.
David is not an abuser. Maybe he should thank Eladio for rejecting him because it prevented him becoming the same as he is.
Regina isn't a tart. Does she see Nina's superficial values and declasse behavior the same way we do?
Consuelo is not a whore, but then she really wasn't raised by one.
I'm sure it wasn't pleasant as Art showered what little attention he gave on his favorite daughter because she was a serious student and little sis Daniela not as bright. I get why Daniela may be a little butthurt.
Thanks for this outrageously hilarious recap, Cynderela. I'm still snickering.
tofie,
"I fail to see what Nina has done that is so horrible."
Thanks.
As for Erick, he's one of the most entertaining male characters that I've seen in a TN in quite some time.
Carlos
Nina's crime is raising Erick and Daniela to be narcissistic brats like herself. It's more immediately obvious in Daniela because she is her Mini-me while Erick can hide behind wearing the right suits to work. He even tries to isolate Consuelo from "outsiders" just as Nina tries to keep other women away from Arturo. He has the mirror image of her jealousy.
She despises Regina. That is her worst crime.
The only value Regina has to her is her beauty because that means -- to Nina -- that she can marry more money than Arturo has or controls. Regina's intelligence is of no value to her and she can't tolerate that there are any differences between them. Regina's desire for a career that depends on her intelligence and education feels like a rejection to her.
How do I know this?
My mother was a Nina. She used her beauty to get my father who had some serious money at the time. He went bankrupt about four years later and never recovered. The marriage limped along for another three years until they separated. My mother tried to get another man with serious money but failed. He died seven years later.
One would think that a woman who didn't have the equivalent of a high school diploma would be proud of a daughter who graduates with honors. Here's how much that meant to her:
My father died on December 18th of my senior year of high school. I did my duty as star of the school Christmas play to perform the morning of the funeral and leave from the auditorium with a change of clothes waiting for me on my bed at home to head to the funeral, for which we were on time. My mother chewed me out for that although there was no one to be scandalized about this. Fast-forward to late spring and my mother made plans to visit her sisters in her native country for three weeks. Departure was a week before graduation, return two weeks later. My uncle and aunt lived two blocks away from us and were asked to look in on me and my brother (who was my mother's favorite, a major academic failure, and worse).
I have no idea whether my uncle said anything about this and I have no way of knowing this now. Nobody in the Old Country was getting married, having a baby, or dying. There was no good reason for her to have gone when she did except to avoid my graduation. That this happened only months after my father's death compounds the felony.
Because my mother hadn't seen her mother or sisters in 17 years I didn't make a big deal about it at the time. It still felt weird. When I put this in the same sentence in a conversation for the first time with my father's death I got very angry. She could have gone earlier (and gotten a cheaper air fare) or later, but chose to go when she did.
What does Nina do with Regina? Ignores Regina's very legitimate objection to marrying a guy who is immature and shows that he might step out on her with her own sister. I truly believe she would be highly amused if Regina married Joshua (thank the TN gods he's been MIA lately) and this happened.
And now you also know why I'm very glad to not have a sister.
I haven't been watching this TN every night but I can't stay away from the recaps so they keep me up to date. I am glad Maribel may finally be gone, whenever I did watch, I would cringe at the scenes with the WTF family. I don't understand how Maribel can die from a brain tumor while at the beach, seems to me it would be a more complicated death than that.
I have a question, how are old lady Gisela and Clara related?
Thank you again for this recap that just made my day. :)
UA - “Consuelo is delusional because she is too attached to the idea of having a faaaaamily. Considering the families we see in novelas all the time I believe the concept is highly over-rated.” Agreed! Family, schmamily! It’s better for one’s mental health to be a hermit in these TNs!
Vivi - “Oh the indignity of being mistaken for the maid! :)” That scene had me laughing out loud too: -- “O sea, me viste la cara de chacha o qué?” / “Do I look like the (pejorative word for female) servant to you?” then she runs off crying out for help to fix her broken nail!
Diana - I think that whole 'Let’s expose Consuelo’s shameful-past' business is meant to provide Erick with a solid pretext, vis-à-vis his parents, to kick wifey to the curb. Junior doesn’t need convincing to get divorced but his Papi does in order to allow this to happen.
Daisynjay - “I'm still waiting to see where we go with this Maribel plot line, especially now that she's finally gone. Who will hubby hook up with?” The whole WTF Family screams 'senseless filler' to me; it seems to have been added as an afterthought. The writers told us at the very beginning that Justino works in construction for Gómez Luna Asociados, just in case he's needed further down the (plot)line. His only interaction with the Gómez Luna family so far was greeting David in Francisco’s office and thanking him for offering his family free accommodation in Acapulco. I’m sensing there will be a Justino/Clara/Francisco love triangle because his little girl seems attached to Clara, who conveniently, happens to live next door and happens to be very pretty. This should keep the Justino character occupied for a few episodes until the writers figure out what to do with him next. Again, no spoiler here; just speculation on my part, having seen similar characters in other TNs.
Tofie - I wholeheartedly agree with your comment at 11:04! Would you please sit next to me in the Patio? (*pulling empty chair next to mine)
Carlos - I’m saving a seat for you too. I never saw the actor playing Erick in anything before but I too I’m enjoying what he’s done with the character. I especially love his facial expressions, which reminded one of our valiant recappers (sorry can’t remember who) of primates at the zoo.
Thanks for the awesome recap. I am still reading it, but I had to stop and thank you for covering for me today. I appreciate it so much.
Gracias,
Hasta Pronto
My take---scrubbing the floor on your hands and knees was really a WTF moment not the WTF family. There's no mop or some kind of an electric floor cleaning device in the mansion. Really?
Daisynjay---There's no chance that Maribel's hot hubby will now hook up with Daniela---he's below her social class.
Tofie and Carlos---Sorry to be the one to disrupt your love affair with Nina. What has she done? Not much other than being a holier than thou B-I-T-C-H. That's why the people on the patio can't stand her. Oh! and that terrible dark plum lipstick doesn't help her cause much either. She's kind of like Franco in a way. He hasn't done really done anything bad either but like Nina---he's just plain disgusting. A little piss-ant want-to-be in training.
must see tv
the gringo
Always hilarious, you are best though when skewering the short-attention-span Erick. Oh my gawd...I read your recap first so I could just think about it while watching this farce (but it's in Spanish, it's in Spanish!)
Augie uses the tablet to draw a picture
Just. So. Fine.
And (he's a man, he's probably already got one...ahem, I'm not bitter.) Well, honey, you've got a right to be so just lay that stuff out. It's okay. Actually, since our lad has been portrayed up to now as a non-stop, angelic husband, it will probably take him a few weeks, actually, to hook up. But I'm sure he'll manage. The little one needs a mom, no? Maybe Nina would be ready to go for Round 2, now that she and Art are going glacial.
Can't wait to look for Julia's lips getting stretch marks.
Thanks Crazy One.
Dani and Erick needed some discipline a little earlier than this..and I am not talking about 50 Shades of Grey discipline. (I finally watched that last night..yikes.)
I wish that I could care about any of these people. I definitely agree that the characters that Susana has played in Sombra and PSMA are disappointing. I like to see a smart and sassy leading lady.
Well, let's all get in a cheerier holiday mood by going to YouTube and watching the Wham video for "Last Christmas." It will give you a giggle. George Michael's hair is ahhhmazing.
Lily - I believe Gisela is either Clara's roommate or a lodger in her house. I'm not sure whether we were given exact details on this pair's living arrangements or how / how long ago they got together. Basically, as I recall, they're living together to share costs (compartir gastos).
Gringo - I don't pretend to speak for Tofie and Carlos but I share their perspective on Nina. I believe that her vilification is unjust insofar as it suggests she deserves ALL the blame for ALL her family's ills, while white sheep Arturo is absolved of any fault.
Has this guy been in a coma for 25 years and just woke up from it now? Nope. Nina has been the way she is now since the day he married her and things in the Montenegro household have been going the same way for the length of their marriage. What's new in this situation is that Arturo bumped into his ex a few weeks ago, this chance encounter revived his love/lust for her, he has an inkling the ex still feels something for him and so now he needs to be rid of Nina in order to pursue the ex. Therefore, Arturo no longer wants to touch Nina, he can't stand her, he berates her, he belittles her, he regrets having married her, he blames her for the way their children turned out when he is just as bad a parent as she is and, last but not least, he is adamant he can't save their marriage. I am not defending Nina. She is indeed a narcissistic mother, an abominable stepmother, a manipulative wife and a haughty shallow socialite. However, she does not deserve to be singled out as the main "villana" of the story while her equally despicable husband gets to be the male protagonist.
I have absolutely nothing to add to this discussion. It is all perfect. The recap was a great read, Cyn's mordant humor had me laughing all the way through. (Sorry, even when Justino was carrying Maribel out to sea and little Luisa was left standing at the edge, I was shaking my head in mirthful disbelief). Ok, I'll stipulate, the bucket is significant, but tell, me is the color of the bucket in any way significant?
The comments have been delightful and, should I say it, insightful.
Cynderella, only one thing was omitted from the line-up for the D...N...A tests. You should have included Dani--although since we all agree she is just like Nina, so why bother to spend the money.
Lila: I don't know what Justino's purpose is. Lucita needs a mommy now, so he's going to have to find a woman. Want woman? We don't know. I think that Gisela has to come up with a son for Caridad when or if she gets out. Maybe she can tell Caridad pass off Justino as Franco. She can lie or something. Gisela can't out herself to Franco or Eladio will kill her. It's just a stupid theory.
UA: Again, I think Connie is desperate and want's a family. If I was picked up in a brothel and raised in an orphanage, I'd probably be the same way. Erick promised to love her always and gave her a family. He's a jerk to us, but right now he's her knight. Also, I too thought that Eladio was going overboard on Franco. Maybe he's training him to take of over the company. Franco is his son...so ya never know.
Vivi: Thanks. Petra and Dani together were great.
Diana: I can't imagine Bill Gates or Trump spending that much time sitting around talking about women. They've got stuff to do. I don't know, maybe rich men don't have better things to do with their time.
Daisynjay: I love to recap really dramatic novelas. They characters are great to write about. The crazier the characters, the better. I like this TN because the leads are all immoral or nuts in some way. Dave slept one sister and is trying to sleep with the other. He's a young guy, I get that. I don't understand Gina. If I knew a guy slept with my sister, my cousin, my aunt...that would be a deal breaker. I would be so turned off my that. I'd be grossed out. It's just me, but I couldn't do it.
Tofie, Carlos and Nandicta: put me at the Nina table for now too. Nina has done nothing. Art is the bad spouse in that relationship. I WISH my husband would be sneaking around calling his ex-girlfriend, meeting secretly with her and kissing her. I wish he would. Also, he's not puttin' out and I'm hittin' the gym every day?
NovelaMaven: thanks! I will have to take some English classes before I can get to you and Urban's level.
Lily: Gisela and Clara are not related. They are just room-mates.
AuntyAnn: You are welcome.
JudyB: Erick is funny! I like when he texted Montseratt on Monday and told her that he needed a few days to get his father to forget about this. Duh! And Julia really did stretch her lips to kiss Art.
Susanlynn: I had a sinus infection a month ago and thought I was going on to meet Jesus. Sucks to be you.
"Since I have some suspicions as well, I suggest that he also swab for a Dani'sNotArt's test along with an Erick'sNotArt's, a MiguelNotArt's and a Regina'sNotArt's test."
Nina is a terrible mother but she didn't create those monsters on her own.
So to me, Nina gets 10% blame in her role as a wife and 50% blame in her role as a mother.
I don't understand the fascination with Julia, at least on Arturo's end. She's not particularly well rounded, she's weak and cowardly. But I guess because they were of the same social class and she was very pretty Arturo felt she was good wife material? Perhaps they were "supposed" to marry?
Why does Arturo want Julia? Or is he in love with the Julia of 1990 who is a very different person than the Julia of 2015?
I get it, from Eladio's peerspective. He is new money and Julia was a) the fiancee of his work enemy and b) from an upper crust social class. But as weak & simpering as Julia is, I can't understand why Eladio wants her so badly, either. Seems like Eladio would be happier with a more dynamic & passionate partner.
I really wish the story had been Julia and Eladio were in love but she falls out of love with him slowly (and back in love with Arturo) as she discovers how dastardly he is.
Nina has already tried to gaslight Regina about the kiss incident and she will take her Mini-Me's word over Regina's without question. She also projects her own drama queen crap onto Regina. It is classic narcissistic behavior to insist that one's own garbage belongs to someone else.
Trust me, when I realized that my mother was a narcissist I read books on the subject. I have friends whose mothers were narcissists. Three of us recall gaslighting and revisionist history.
One more thing: When I was 16 and in the top 10% of my class mine threatened to pull me out of school and force me to go to work to be her meal ticket. I dared her to try it. It never happened. I have no idea whether it would have been legal for her to do this or not and nobody I know knows the answer to this question. People I know who are teachers now all say that my school would have called her out on this level of selfishness regardless of the legality (or not) of this demand and sent her packing. Maybe my school did and that's why this was never mentioned again.
At least Arturo never followed through on the demand for a new car.
I too couldn't suppress my giggle at the final "dramatic" scene. It was a tear-jerker alright, but a different kind of tears.
As regards the potential significance of the color blue, I believe blue is considered the Virgin Mary's color, Catholic iconography almost always shows the Virgencita wearing blue.
Cynderella - Please don't say Maribel "might" have died! Please no "might"! They can't do this to us! She has to be!
Also, a very warm welcome to the Nina table! Your welcome pack and complimentary plum lipstick are in the mail, you shall be receiving them shortly.

Here's a big abrazo for you, amiga.
Now that I have my big computer back, I'll fill you in on Philip Glass and Appomattox.
Ah such nostalgia, it reminds me of the old Tal*Mart (El Talisman) and Meta*Mart (Amores Verdaderos) days.
Do you carry T-shirts and CD's?
P.s. I am having a sad because although the show Outlander, the lead actress Caitronia Balfe , and the dastardly villain Tobias Menzies got Golden Globe nominations, the leading man (my new novio) Sam Heughan was overlooked. Bah humbug.
A nice episode...
Maribel's goodbye scene was so odd. Never have I seen such a thing.
Daniela breaking a nail and calling it a life and death situation. HA!
Clara confusing Daniela for a maid. Double HA!
So I guess Consuelo won't find out what was inside the present Miguel was bringing her?
Note to Artie: It's too late to change Erick. He's a lost cause.
Perhaps it was a garish hair flower? Consuelo is so plainly unadorned for a "rich" boy's wifey.
I am not going to be sitting at the Nina table because...well...NIna. I would sit at the Augie table. This guy has a thankless job..babysitting Dumb-as-a-rock Erick and listening to Art babble and whine. He'd probably rather have a sinus infection.
