Pasión y Poder #30 Wednesday, December 16, 2015 The Truth Comes Out: Eladio Cries While David Learns That His Suegro Still Has the Hots For His Mom!

Lo Nuevo

Eladio begs Julia to not leave him, and to get better. David leaves the room at this time. Eladio reminds Julia that it was an accident, but that no one believes him. The machine alarms start going off and some nurses come in and get Eladio out of the room.

Out in the hallway and out of his scrubs, David tells Gaby that he heard what his father was saying to his mother. For the first time in his life, David feels the love that Eladio has for Julia. When Eladio comes to join them David tells him that he heard what Eladio said to the unconscious Julia and thanks his father. David also apologizes for never believing that Eladio loved Julia. They shake hands.

The next day at the Montenegro mansion Nina and Art are at the breakfast table, but they don't eat. Instead Nina wants to tattle tale on Connie, but Art stops her. He knows what happened last night because Connie told him. Nina is upset that Art is defending Connie instead of Erick. Art hopes that Connie and Erick can resolve their differences before the baby is born. During this conversation it is also mentioned that Art is sleeping in the guest room. Did we know this already?

In Tabasco, Erick is negotiating with the union workers. They tell Erick their demands and he refuses. The workers leave. Erick argues with Santiago (the man that was at the office when Erick arrived in Tabasco). Santiago tells Erick that he doesn't know what he's doing. Erick gets upset and leaves. Then Franco comes in and gives Santiago some cash. Seems that Santiago is being paid by Franco and Eladio to make Erick's life miserable, and for Art to loose more money.

The RatGirl is talking with Aldo. She realizes that Erick will never give her what she wants. She needs to forget about him for her own good. It angers her because she is sure that Art sent Erick away to seperate them.

At the hospital David tells Eladio to go home to shower and rest. Eladio leaves. David goes to get something to eat and leaves Gaby alone in the waiting area. Art shows up and says hello. Gaby tells him about Julia's accident and blames him for it.

Miguel and Connie show up at the orphanage. Connie asks the director about the person that went to find out information about her past.

Gaby explains to Art that Julia and Eladio were arguing because Eladio found out about their meeting. Art wants to know if Eladio hurt Julia. Gaby tells him, No, Julia left the bedroom upset and tripped and fell down the stairs, BBBUUUUUTTTTT, there would not have been an argument had Art and Julia not seen each other. Art wants to see Julia. Gaby insists that it's better if he stay away. She tells him that Julia is in a coma. Cara de impactado de Art.

At the orphanage, Connie realizes that it was the RatGirl that was fishing around about her past. She asks the lady at the orphanage to not give any more information about her to anyone, PUNTO! She has to go see RatGirl ASAP.

Back at the hospital Gaby begs Art to leave. He finally agrees but only if Gaby promises to call and keep him informed on Julia's condition. Gaby can only promise not to tell Eladio that Art was there. Gaby convinces Art to leave saying that it's in Julia's best interest for him to stay away from her. Art walks away and calls Auggie. He tells him that now more than ever he is going to do the DNA (David's Not Art's) test. Did I get that right Cynderella? Meanwhile, Grandpa shows up at the hospital and runs into David, who is upset. David asks his grandfather if his mother tripped and fell, since his grandfather saw the whole thing happen.

Miguel has to convince Connie to not confront RatGirl. If she does he will go with her. She does not want that because it will cause problems with the jerk she has for a husband. Connie realizes that Erick had been lying to her because he was still seeing RatGirl.

Grandpa confirms Eladio's version of the story to David. He also starts to praise Eladio and tells David that he should work with his father. It's like David is having a conversation with an older Eladio. FF>>

In Tabasco, Franco meets with the head Union worker and reminds him of their deal. They can not build anything. Franco reminds him the Eladio Gomez Luna never forgets a favor, or a betrayal.

Eladio shows up at the hospital again. David tells him that there is no change in Julia's condition. Grandpa says he wants to see Julia. David asks Gaby to take Grandpa to see his mother because he has to talk with his father.

Art and Auggie talk about Julia. Art NEEDS to see Julia. Auggie tries to convince him to stay away. What will Art tell his children?

David tells Eladio that he heard him say that Julia loved someone else. He wants to know who? Eladio tells him that it's Arturo Montenegro and that that's the reason Eladio has hated Art for all these years. Cara de impactada de David.

Art and Auggie continue to discuss the Julia situation. Art confesses that if it weren't for his kids, he would have already gotten separated from Nina. Art realizes that he has been an idiot for being blind for the past 25 years. Art needs to know that Julia is ok. He asks Auggie for his help, but then they get inturrupted by a phone call from Tabasco. They tell Art that Erick refused to negotiate with the workers.

David can't believe what Eladio is saying about Arturo Montenegro. Eladio confesses the whole truth to David. He tells him that Julia and Art were novios on the brink of getting married, when Art impregnated another woman, which made Julia break off the marriage. Eladio had always been secretly in love with Julia and married her thinking she would forget Art, but that never happened. Eladio asks David not to judge his mother. He knows that his actions are not justified, but he hopes that David can understand them. David doesn't think that his mother still loves Art.

Nina and Dani have a chat. Nina is upset because Art has to leave for Tabasco on business, but she thinks he's going to see another woman. She figures that if Art is up to something, Erick will tell her. Dani wants to know why Nina spoils Erick so much and Nina tells her it's because Erick is the sole heir to the Montenegro fortune. Dani asks about her and Regina? Don't they get anything? Nina, in her 1950's thinking, says that they are girls, and when they marry their husbands will take care of them. WTH? Dani doesn't think it's fair.

David argues that he thinks that his mother loves his father. Eladio tells him that the important thing is that Julia get better. Eladio cries and David consoles him. David promises to get along better with Eladio.

Dani reminds her mother of the existence of Miguel, and that he could possibly inherit half of the fortune. Nina wants Miguel out of the game. She thinks Miguel deserves nothing. She feels that she has worked her butt off organizing dinners and mingling with the businessman's wives to deserve a big piece of the pie. She goes as far as to take credit for the growth of the Montenegro fortune. She does not want Miguel to get one red cent of that money.

Art is getting on Erick's case over the phone. He thought that Erick would know how to negotiate a deal. While on the phone, Art gets another call. He answers and it's Santiago, telling him that Erick screwed up the deal. Art says that he will be in Tabasco that evening to negotiate, but it does not give Erick a free pass. He needs to stay and learn.

Regina meets David in a cafe. He tells her that he knows the reason behind their fathers' fights. Her father and his mother were novios. Cara de impactada de Regina.

Connie wants to go confront RatGirl, but Miguel convinces her not to. She goes upstairs to rest.

David asks Regina if she knew about their parents relationship and she says No. David worries that his mother and Art still love each other. Regina thinks it's silly. Her father adores her mother and he would never cheat on her. LOL!!! David doesn't think his mom would cheat either. Regina asks David if all of this would affect their relationship.

Grandpa is at Julia's bedside. He tells her not to die. He is worried that if she dies, Eladio won't take care of him anymore. The nurse comes in and takes him away.

David understands that their parents relationship was a long time ago, but he wasn't expecting it. Regina thinks that it was destiny that brought them together so that their parents could have closure. She says that the important thing now is for David's mom to recover. Regina decides to leave before someone sees them together. David still looks concerned.

Clara and Francisco talk in her apartment. She tells him that Justino won't let her see Luisita. Gisela comes out of her room and gives her 2 cents. Gisela agrees with Justino, saying that Clara should have told the truth about Maribel's health. Clara was just doing as her friend asked. Gisela yells and goes back to her room. Francisco tells Clara to not listen to Gisela. Sooner or later Justino will come around, he just needs time. She offers Francisco a coffee and he accepts. While she is getting the coffee he asks for Connie and Clara gets super jealous. She reminds him that Connie is married and pregnant. She doesn't even know why she bothers. She confesses that her whole life the guys have always preferred Connie. She thanks Francisco for the ride home and asks him to leave. He goes.

Art is at the hospital and on the phone with a colleague, who happens to be a doctor and the director of the hospital and also a member of the same club as Art. He has given Art permission to go into the intensive care unit of the hospital. It's not what you know, but who you know.

Regina is at home telling Miguel about what David told her. Nina is listening at the door and hears Regina say that Art and Julia were novios. Nina bursts into Regina's room and demands to know who told her. Regina tells her that David told her. Regina tells her not to worry because Art and Julia dated, but it was a long time ago.

Art is all decked out in his scrubs and about to go into Julia's room but is stopped by David. What is Art doing there, asks David.

Nina is paranoid and thinks that Art is having an affair with Julia. Regina tries to calm her down. Nina wants to confront Julia but Regina tells her that she can't because Julia had an accident and is in a coma.

Art tells David that he and Julia have known each other for years. He was at the hospital and found out that she was a patient. He was simply visiting to see how Julia was doing. David tells him that his mother is not well. She is in the IC unit, and he politely asks Art to leave.

Nina says that Julia deserves to be in a coma because that's what she gets for going around with married man. Regina tries to calm her down. Nina says she has to have a serious talk with Art. She can't believe that he kept that secret. She leaves and Miguel comes in

Art tells David he doesn't want to cause problems. David tells him if that's true, then to stay away. He tells him he knows the truth about their relationship. Art says that it was more serious. David knows why they broke up. Art doesn't think he does. David doesn't think they should be talking about it. He just wants Art to respect his mother because she is a married woman. Art knows that, just like he knows that he loves David's mother!

The recap is up. Sorry I haven't been around much lately, but work has me going a million miles an hour right now. I hope you enjoy the read! Let me know what I missed or what I got wrong.

Hasta Pronto!

Thank You so much Aunty Ann. FWIW. May I suggest her official name is Monster Ratt?

Anon7::29,
I have no problem with Monster Ratt. What does the rest if the patio think?

P.s. What does FWIW stand for?

Tks Aunty Ann
Recaps keep me going until Bajo is over & I can watch again.

I kind of like The "RatGirl" name.

DNA,yes you got that right. Lol.

Gracias, AuntyAnn.

FWIW = for what it's worth

Good grief. I have to admonish the writers for not updating their source material well enough. Good use of all modern communication tools, but this 1950s attitude on Nina'a part is ridiculous.* I looked up some stuff on Mexican inheritance law and nothing demands primogeniture. People can bequeath their money and property pretty much as they wish and women have full inheritance rights.

*The problem is that Nina took the 1950s way out and resents the possibility that her daughters can improve on that. I will eventually expound on that through my alter-ego.

I suspect that Arturo was an only child, so he was the natural sole heir. He was also hard-working and talented at his work. He grew the business through a combination of knowledge, relating well to clients, and finding the right opportunities. Economic conditions (over which nobody has control) would also have worked in his favor. Nina may have played the role of corporate wife, but that isn't something that happens until the husband is already successful. If she later threatens to ruin Arturo financially because she deserves to continue to live in this accustomed luxury, she also can't make the argument that Miguel deserves nothing.

Makes me wonder what the Miguel character was like in the previous series.

More later. I need more caffeine.

Thank so much for the wonderful recap, AuntyAnn! As far as I can tell, you didn't miss a thing. (Do you ever?)

FWIW = For what it's worth

I like all the rodent apodos, but I admit that MonsteRat has a certain je ne sais quoi... hee hee.

Great work AuntyAnn. Thank you

"Gaby tells him about Julia's accident and blames him for it" It was Art's fault they quarreled and now Art trying to see Julia at hospital. He is not helping.

Daniela is smarter than I give her credit, if only she'd apply herself

Regina believes Art and Nina love each other and have a solid relationship. Well they did have a solid relationship and the children believed so despite Art's recent behavior. Art isn't the only one blind in the house. Nina more so than anyone, believing for 25 years Art cared for her at all. I do believe Nina, as Art's partner, assisted in the creation of wealth.

Clever, Regina looked both ways before entering the hall so not to be seen.

Many thanks for a witty and thorough recap, AuntyAnn!

Yay for another fast-paced episode! Looks like the writers are done stalling; the plot has picked up and is humming along at a decent pace. I especially loved how David, Regina, Miguel AND Nina discovered the "Arturo-Julia connection" all in one fell swoop! I did not see that coming. Nor did I expect Eladio to be so candid with David (I predicted he would evade him). That scene where Eladio looked so miserable and burst into tears took me by surprise! Am I a big softie for feeling sorry for him?

Chimp Boy on the other hand, made a giant boo-boo, just like I thought he would.
He messed up the negotiations with the workers' union in 30 seconds flat and plunged Grupo Montenegro in yet another crisis. This kind of stupid is awe-inspiring!

More later...

-- UA: The writers figured it would be easier to dress Nina in hooker-style 1950's garb than update the script from the 1950s to present time.

I screen-grabbed that dress for the next Crimes of Fashion gallery because that pattern is something I'm seeing in cheap stores these days. I have a couple of blouses like that but a whole dress is just nuts.

Tofie, the argument was not Arturo's fault. Eladio will start an argument with Julia on any pretext, so this does not matter to the degree that anyone here is making it out to. It is how Eladio reacts. He has not learned that this is not only not the way to get Julia to love him, it is exactly what will drive her away (in her heart, if not in physical distance).

I posted this in YNCELH about MD and Julian, but it bears repeating here: You have no control over whether anyone loves you or how they do. This is a lesson Eladio will not learn.

BTW, that nurse who wheeled Humberto out of Julia's room would have heard his selfish whining about how Julia is how he can live as he does. What a selfish, nasty despicable excuse he is for a human being.

Art threw gas on burning coals by sending a love letter to Eladio's wife, taunted him at the golf course and by showing up at hospital he is doing it again trying to sneak into Julia's room. Art needs a better disguise cause David nabbed him, to bad it wasn't Eladio.

Even though Eladio is mean & abusive rapist, I've still been on TeamEladio pretty much the whole time.

No, he shouldn't abuse Julia & David & hold basic care over Humberto's head to keep Julia in line. No, he shouldn't be embezzling, bribing & cheating.

But Arturo should not be sneaking around in scrubs trying to see Julia, over Julia's niece & Julia's son's objections. Arturo should not be bringing Julia flowers, or writing her love letters, or dissing Nina because he wants Julia.

So anytime Arturo & Eladio fight, I'm pretty much TeamEladio because Arturo is openly disrespecting him by going after his wife.

Arturo has probably divided his fortune up in 5 parts; 1 part goes to Nina and the other 4 parts are likely divided equally among the four children. We have just solved the mystery of why Nina wanted Regina married and gone so badly: she believes Arturo is going to leave ALL of the Montenegro money to Erick so Regina needs to be married off and out of the house so that's one less mouth to feed. Let Joshua take care of her.

I would disagree that Nina had this big role in making Grupo Montenegro the powerhouse that it is today. From what I understand, Grupo Montenegro was ALREADY big by the time Nina came along. Eladio was a bellhop getting a paycheck from Grupo Montenegro; Arturo was the boss's son. Nina would not have even looked at Arturo if he was just Arturo from IT. Nina needs to stop it. Arturo wasn't a carpenter with a dream when she met & married him. He was already a big time rich guy whose family owned Grupo Montenegro.

Which is exactly why she set her cap for him. The company may be bigger now than 25 years ago but any role Nina had in that is minor at best.

Did anyone notice the look on her face when she mentioned the wives of Arturo's business associates? You can smile and shake hands all you can, but attitudes like that are vibes that anyone can pick up.

She also shouldn't second-guess how Arturo has written his will, if he has already (although men of that net worth are encouraged to do so long before they're his age). And just because a daughter is married there should not be any thought that she deserves nothing of the inheritance.

Thank you AuntyAnn. I totally sympathize on the crazy work load issue.

Only a brief time to comment myself today--conference calls up the ying yang today.

But I don't know, suddenly making Eladio sympathetic after 20 years of abuse of his wife and treatment of his son isn't doing it for me. And the fact David can listen to one conversation and his brain cells aren't firing to remember how his mother was treated before was too much. So all daddy has to do is declare his love, sick as it is, and everything is okey dokey? Nope

And Artie is an idiot. Good lord, she is not your wife, not even your lover. This is selfish on his part to keep sneaking around knowing when Eladio finds out he takes it out on Julia anyway.

With my son coming into town for the holidays tomorrow late afternoon, doubt I'll make the effort to tune into this, but I"ll check into the recaps. Hard to get excited about where this is going and how characters suddenly go stupid for the sake of the plot.

Daisynjay

Thanks for this excellent recap. What a pleasant read that accurately and clearly presents the events of last night's episode. Very well done.

Sooo, Julia has been held a virtual prisoner in her own house all these years? How very clever she must be to have created her own apparently thriving charitable foundation under such circumstances. Such foundations generally require considerable financial backing and support. We pretty well know that she didn't have her own money to accomplish this with. Somehow for me this doesn't square with the oppressive conditions she has existed under all these years.

UA,

From last night regarding Nina:

"I think she will ultimately cheat. Or already has...

It would not surprise me if someday she tried to seduce David or some future boyfriend of Daniela's."

Wow... bold suspicions and predictions... without a shred of evidence to back them up.

Carlos

Thanks AuntyAnn! Since I didn't watch it, your recap really helped me envision all that happened.

Daisynjay- Ditto your whole comment about David's short memory and Arturo.

Don't see how anyone can be team Eladio, unless it's Eladio vs Erick. But when it comes to Eladio vs Arturo (over Julia). Arturo is an idiot and Eladio is a psycho. Neither one deserves backing, but Eladio certainly doesn't deserve ANY support in that contest (or whatever it is).

Even as a semi-retired attorney I salivate hearing a wife of 25 years and mother of three children didn't have much impact on the success of a man in the C suite.

I would argue Nina helped make Grupo Montenegro a success IF she & Arturo had married when he just had a handyman business, a rusty hammer & a box of nails and with her charm & glamour helped make Grupo Montenegro from the ground up.

That's not what happened. Grupo Montenegro was already a success before Nina hit the scene. Eladio was a bellhop in one of Grupo Montenegro's hotels. Nina is acting like she was there with Daddy Montenegro with a hammer in her hand putting up a frame.

But since she feels like she helped build Grupo Montenegro from the ground up, she should be backing Arturo up against Erick, since Erick's greed & stupidity just cost HER $700,000,000 pesos. All of her power dinners & schmoozing & favoring Erick will be for nothing if Erick gets Grupo Montenegro shut down & bankrupt within 2 years because of his incompetence, laziness & greed. Even Daniela gave Nina some "Gurl bye!" looks when Nina was going on about how SHE made Grupo Montenegro into the powerhouse that it is today.

I think Dani can be turned around, if Arturo would channel her into activities that suited her nature. She's smarter than Erick, that's for sure. She's just been influenced by her mother that she should just be pretty & party. I'm pretty sure Grupo Montenegro has a public relations/marketing department. Dani would be a natural fit there. Instead of letting Dani loll about the house or scrubbing floors in her stilettos, Arturo should ask Dani to work in the PR/Marketing Department. She could plan/host events at the Grupo Montenegro hotels as well as plan events for Grupo Montenegro in general.

A wife of 25 years is entitled to something; I won't argue that. However it would be difficult for her to make a case that she had much to do with the growth of his company.

Disclaimer here: I never saw the 1988 version.

Carlos, Nina's ego is what she feeds first. She may not have cheated on Arturo and all three of her children would therefore be his. However, since she didn't seem to care that her Mini-me pursued Regina's fiance and that she tried to hang with her Mini-me's friends is very telling. This recent rejection by Arturo (sleeping in another bedroom) could send her into cougar mode because she doesn't see herself as her own age. I'm actually amazed she didn't have a bigger fit over Consuelo being pregnant. Instead she invents the notion that Consuelo cheated on her precious little boy and therefore the baby can't be his. There will come a day when she is at odds with Daniela and I can see her chasing some boyfriend of hers to prove to her daughters that she is more woman than either of them.

Here's to you, Mrs Robinson.

Some episodes back, Erick tried to say something about this being THEIR company to do with as they wished, and Arturo pointed out to him that is was his FATHER who built the company and made it what it is, and it's Art's job to keep that going with hard work, implying the same for Erick. So if even Art doesn't take credit for making Montenegro into a powerhouse, then Nina certainly can't. He knows he's a rich kid who inherited, but he doesn't think that's any excuse for him or his kids not to work hard.

Anon207- A job in PR at the company for Dani might indeed be a good idea. I think Arturo right now is trying to show her how to value the hard work of others not as privileged as she is. I think he also is trying to convince her to go back to school the next semester. Perhaps working at the company part time while going to school would be good, and keep her occupied and out of trouble.

I really can't see Art ever having made a will that leave everything to one child- Erick. Nina is delusional. I'm also sure he split it evenly between his spouse and four kids. Heck, he might have even left a greater share to Nina. She needs to check it out, before she puts all her faith in the one child who would lose them their fortune the quickest.

Thank you, Aunty Ann. It was a perfectly crafted recap.

I thought Nina's snap judgment was interesting. She immediately assumed Julia was the guilty party going after Artie. She was ready to go confront her--but not Art.

I did hear someone say cuarto de huespedes (was it Petra?), but now I can't remember if it referred to Art sleeping there. It's entirely possible that Arturo, trying to justify his thoughts and behavior towards Julia to distance himself from Nina, would move out of their bedroom. If he has, it certainly explains Nina's desperation. Wouldn't it be something Regina would have noticed, though, especially, given her little speech to David about how much her parents loved each other. She may have been covering up or ignoring the dissonance going on in the household. Well, Nina's little outburst cured her of that illusion.

I felt a little sorry for Erick last night. He was in a no-win situation. Santiago had been paid off to make sure the union guys asked for unreasonable terms, knowing Erick would refuse and get in trouble with Art.

Franco is a weasel (with apologies to weasels in the wild).

AuntyAnn: Outstanding recap - thank you so much.

"Dani reminds her mother of the existence of Miguel" made me smile.

"Grandpa is at Julia's bedside. He tells her not to die. He is worried that if she dies, Eladio won't take care of him anymore". Oh my...

So now, our David believes his father loves his mother. I hope he is not forgetting that he has heard but one side of the story. I hope he does not forget Eladio's treatment of Julia, his verbal and physical abuse and terrorizing and holding her a virtual prisoner.

Nina is not a modern day woman. The "I'm only a woman" attitude aside, it appears her inner tiger has been awakened. I am smiling a bit at what Arturo will be in for when she confronts him. For all that she has done and all that she is, this is a sharp, dark free fall into reality. A wake up call indeed.

I wonder if Augustin is able to get any work done? How can he concentrate when Arturo is prattling on endlessly about his lost love and his determination to get Julia back, despite the cost to everyone else.

I hope you and your nephew and family have a wonderful Christmas.

Diana

Anita- When Regina said goodbye to her parents before she went to Queretaro, it was in their bedroom and they were both there. If he's moved out, it's just in the last few days since Regina has been gone.

Vivi, I'm Team Anon207 (when it comes to Eladio)! Art has his own wife and family to worry about. What is he doing all up in Eladio's business? Julia chooses to live that way because she wants her son to have a great relationship with a his dad. You can't go around coveting someone else's wife and totally mentally abuse your own. Art sucks!

Ok, I will say this quickly. Rich wives do work and assist their husbands. I used to work for a foundation California. The wife joins a suitable foundation and networks for her husband with the other wives. That wife gets her husband into all the events because she raising money and invited to a lot of social events based on who she knows. He tags along to the event and gets business based on her contacts. I'm in a hurry so may not be explaining it right. Those wives were bringing in money for the family in a weird way. Got to get back to work.

Urban--I picked out this phrase of yours, "... she [Nina] doesn't see herself as her own age." True statement. She even tried to tell Arturo that she didn't discipline their children because she wanted to be their friend, so they would confide in her and trust her. I guess she set aside her 1950s convictions on parenting.

If this was a brief marriage, no children or Nina signed a prenup shame on her but this is a relationship of a quarter century. She was right there during bust and boom and smart enough to know negative press is bad and an image needs maintaining. She raised 4 children one of which was not her's and didn't whine as Art dedicated long hours. They are a team on equal footing and any increase in their net worth since their marriage she contributed equally though her role was different. Though I do not like Art I bet he would believe the same.

Cyn- Definitely not defending Art the Idiot. But can't get behind a psycho wife/lover/child abuser like Eladio either.

Anita, this is one of the issues with remakes. The younger characters in the 1988 version would have been born in the early 60s, so 1950s attitudes would have been rife then. It looks like Nina picks and chooses from that to suit her own purposes.

I don't think Arturo has actually moved out of the master bedroom. That would be too important to have happen "offstage."

As for Nina going for Arturo's throat for "cheating" on her. Didn't she tell Dani in a conversation not too long ago, referring to Erick's roaming the fields, that it was ok for a married man to have side-dishes, but not for a woman, regardless of status, but especially not a married woman (Consuelo). That should explain part of her anger at Julia when the shoe is on her foot.

I share Tofie's view regarding Arturo's responsibility in what happened. He's so self-absorbed, so obtuse, so full of himself, it makes me want to scream!

In fact, I did scream yesterday when he told long-suffering Rev Auggie: "De qué me sirve tanto dinero, tanto poder, si no puedo ver a Julia?" ("What use is having so much money and so much power if I can't see Julia?") I yelled out: "Aaaaah, bite me!". Then in the same conversation, he said: "Si no enfrenté a Eladio fue para no provocarle más problemas a Julia!" For serious! And what was that "Golf Course Summit" they had on Monday at Arturo's behest? Cynderella summed it up best on Monday:

- "Art wants to meet and discuss exactly how Eladio will eventually kill Julia and how he (Art) can be of assistance"

- Art's invited Eladio here because Art wants to discuss how he can piss Eladio off further and really provoke him into killing the woman that they both claim to love. 'Cuz that's totally what he's doing.

Arturo then rounds off his deluded ramblings to Auggie by accusing Nina of making a fool out of him and misleading him for 25 years! That wasn't Nina, Randy Boy, that was Little Arturo! Little Arturo has been clouding your judgement waaaay before Nina showed up.

I'm telling you people, it's ADD! That, coupled with pathological stupidity and delusions of self-grandeur! Chimp Boy Erick didn't fall too far away from the crazy tree!

Sorry folks but I needed to vent. Arturo rant over! Pheeew! I feel better now!

I don't think anyone here is saying that Nina didn't help Arturo professionally. But Nina did NOT build Grupo Montenegro into the success it is today. Nina might have helped Arturo's personal success by giving him a good image as a CEO and family man, but Nina did not build GM into the successful business it is today ... it was already successful & thriving. Nina wouldn't have looked at Arturo twice otherwise. Even Daniela knew that was BS flowing out of Nina's mouth...that she, Nina, is directly responsible for how successful Grupo Montenegro is.

Nina doesn't care about Grupo Montenegro, she only cares about the money she can get from it/Arturo. That's why she wasn't upset when Erick sold GM out to Eladio & Co. for 50 pesos. If she cared she would've been next in line to kick Erick's a$$.

If it's a Arturo v Eladio situation, I'm team Eladio because Arturo is actively pursuing Eladio's wife and straight up telling him he's doing it. If Eladio wants to punch out Arturo every day, I cheer him on and say go for it.

I completely agree with Anita here and it dovetails with my post above it. Nina thinks she is the exception to all those rules. It's perfectly OK if other men cheat on their wives because they are so inferior to her, but she'd cut Arturo's throat if he cheated on her? Sorry, Nina, but that's a double standard of another kind.

The 1950s look came back for a while in the US because of Mad Men. However, I don't think the mindset came back with it.

There is no evidence that Nina was ever involved with any foundation. She said something to Arturo about this but he dismissed this request. He may have subconsciously realized that she doesn't have the personality to run one.

He could be thinking of cutting her allowance, too. She only spends it on personal luxuries, none of which are in good taste. That necklace she was wearing screams cheap.

I'm also wondering whether Marlene Favela gets a headache from that style.

Thanks, AuntyAnn. Terrific recap. I hope you can get some rest soon.

I don't know Mexican law, but in the United States 25 years of marriage and raising three kids and one stepkid to adulthood puts Nina in good to get a nice chunk of the Montenegro assets. My guess is Arturo will be generous but Nina would want much much more. ITA he would never leave all to only one kid in his will.

Those were real tears when Nina found out about Julia. And Daniela seems to be tiring of her mom trying to be her BFF. What will Nina do?

I don't blame David one bit for telling Art to scram. Art's being at the hospital added credibility to Eladio's story.

-- Daisynjay: I don't think that they are making Eladio "sympathetic after 20 years of abuse". They are just making us - and David - see a glimpse of this man's normally well-guarded feelings. He puts on a tough facade but he has his own wounds and demons to battle with. This is in no way an excuse for what he did during years but heartache, humiliation and rejection contributed to turning him into a controlling, insecure, abusive mess. His male ego was battered so badly and for long that he has been lashing out in the worst ways possible.

He told David yesterday that when he started courting Julia after her break-up with Arturo, he thought he had gained her love and married her on that basis, only to find out later that she was still pining for her ex-fiancé (his exact words were: "Me acerqué a ella, creí que la había conquistado, se casó conmigo, pero... " / "I got closer to her, thought I had won her heart, she married me, however..."). It is obvious there is a lot of love there but it is deeply buried under thick layers of hurt, resentment, jealousy, selfishness and an obsession for vengeance. Eladio is allowing all these nasty feelings to express themselves in his actions. You can't make someone love you against their will. Loving someone sometimes means having to set them free. Anyway... As Eladio himself said, he hopes after his confession that David would understand the reason behind his behavior, even if his actions can't be justified.

So just like Anon207, I'm #TeamEladio when it comes to his feud with Arturo but as regards Julia's future, I'm #TeamGoItAloneGirl!

Urban- Nina didn’t offer to start a foundation. She just got jealous when she saw everyone fawning over Julia at the charity fashion show, and said something like, “ I don’t see what the big deal is. I could start a charity of I wanted to.” But she clearly had no intention of doing so.

Wow, Aunty Ann...you're snowed under with work, from the comments we can see that this was a very powerful...and enfuriating episode...but you kept your head and gave us a well=crafted, complete recap, without boiling over.

Loved your quip about "it's not what you know, but WHO you know". Arturo is certainly breaking every possible rule of responsible, adult behavior bu sneaking into the intensive care unit...just as he did 20 some years ago when he impregnated another woman shortly before his wedding date with Julia

Yes, indeed, dumb, narcissistic Erick, doesn't fall far from the parental tree as Nandicta pointed out.

Can't say I feel sorry for Nina, but do feel sorry for Julia as she has a lame, self-centered father, a dangerous, volatile husband, and an absolute idiot former fiancé who continues to pursue her even after three people, Augustin, Gabriela and David BEG him not to....and for very good reasons.

And why?...because he has FEELINGS, WAH WAH WAH, FEELINGS...(supply your own sound track). Let's hope she survives, leaves the country, finds a job and lives happily every after...on her own.

Fabulous AuntyAnn! Thank you so much! And a big thank you to Cynderella and Urban for their recaps for Monday and Tuesday! Haven't been around much because I didn't get a chance to watch all three episodes until last night.

Not surprised that Humberto only cares about Julia's health because of his own selfish reason. He's despicable. Get him off our TV screens.

Yeah, what was Artie thinking attempting to go in and see Julia?! Now he tells David that he's still in love with his mom. Wow.

Oh, Artie is really going to get it now. Nina for sure will let him have it for having kept this secret from her for so long.

Nina obviously doesn't know her son that well if she thinks that Erick would be able to handle the company. He'd make it go bankrupt in a month if left in charge.

AuntyAnn- Forgot to say, that I loved the title.

I respectfully disagree with those who think Nina contributed nothing or very little to the growth and prosperity of Grupo Montenegro. Even if she hadn't carried out "unpaid labor" like hosting receptions, accompanying her husband to his events and fostering relationships with the wives of potential business partners, she supported him and stood by his side for 25 years, helping him focus better on his work.

Housewives of "important men" play a significant behind-the-scenes role in the success of their husbands' endeavors. I highly recommend a great read on this subject -- "Bananas, Beaches and Bases: Making Feminist Sense of International Politics" by Cynthia Enloe, especially Chapter 1 titled "Gender makes the world go around" and Chapter 5 titled "Diplomatic wives".

Nina couldn't run a foundation in a million years. She is too self-centered for that.

Julia has the sense of noblesse oblige that sometimes exists among "old money." She must have gotten that from her mother because her father has none of that in him.

Nandicta- Absolutely, Nina helped Arturo be able to ignore his kids and home (like an idiot) and focus 100% on making Montenegro Co profitable and successful, (falsely) believing Nina was focusing 100% on making sure their kids were becoming happy, productive, successful people. She certainly succeeded in keeping the house running well by keeping the servants on task with cooking, cleaning, changing diapers, etc., while making sure to belittle and humiliate them. And despite her best efforts to belittle and humiliate two of them, half of the kids DID turn into productive/successful people (Regina and Miguel), and the other two are happy being lazy and unproductive (Erick and Dani).

But seriously, I do think Nina would deserve whatever the law allows for her role as Art's companion and partner for the last 25 years, and I don't think Art would disagree.

-- Viv: They say that birds of a feather flock together. I like the Spanish version because we have a similar one in Arabic: "Dios los cría, y ellos se juntan" ("God creates them and they get together". Another variant says: "Dios los cría y el diablo los junta" / "God creates them and the devil pairs them up")

The devil paired up the Montenegro couple and he did a good job. Nina is no prize but neither is Arturo. To me, they team up perfectly. Neither one of them deserves a better spouse than what he's got for the last quarter of a century.

A big thank you AuntyAnn--- A GREAT reap even amongst a busy schedule. You earned the title of "A" Team recapper and you will never loose it. When you got it, you got it.

Some have said maybe I'll watch, maybe not. Well this gringo will be there front and center even if there's snow on the patio.

Vivi---I loved your 11:29AM comment. What we have here is a psycho and an idiot. LOL What kind of a choice is that?

Tofie---What do you mean by "much impact?" I don't think that bruja Nina had much impact on Art's business at all. The has been too busy riding around on her gold and diamond studded broomstick, shopping in fashionable stores, going to parties, fancy lunches and making all of her children's decisions for them to have any impact in Art's business at all. Besides, in her 1950's thinking, running a company would be men's work.

Great comment anon207 at 1155AM---But a Dani turnaround will never happen. Bruja Nina has ruined Daniela by infusing the good times party social life into her. It's plain and simple, even if daddy set her up within the company, one needs not only to be smart but must also have a work ethic. Dani is smart enough unlike her dumb ass brother Erick but like Erick, she doesn't have the work ethic and never will. Maybe that is one of the reasons why Dani despises her sister Regina.

Anita---Franco is a weasel. I see him as a little piss-ant weasel and cringe every time I see him with Gaby.

Must see tv even if there is snow on the patio tonight.

the gringo

Vivi--Didn't Artie in another conversation with Nina, suggest she get involved in charity work, now that their children were "adults" (strictly in the chronological interpretation--and Dani excepted). I think she scoffed at that, can't remember the exact repartee.

Neither Eladio nor Arturo are sterling-value galans, so I'm satisfied with enjoying who can out-trick the other in the business world. So far it's neck-and-neck in dirty tricks. Once Artie finds out it was Eladio behind the Tabasco union revolt, he'll escalate.

Both Eladio and Arturo are fracasos when it comes to the needs of their wives and families.

Gringo, I agree with your latest comment. I don't hold out hopes for Daniela turning around and becoming a useful member of society unless Nina does something that seriously arouses her ire, like trying to seduce one of her boyfriends (or fiance). Whether that would be enough for her to do what she should be doing could be debatable. What isn't debatable is that she is var more intelligent than Erick.

Urban & NovelaMaven,
Thanks for the clarification on FWIW.

Cynderella,
Thanks for the DNA confirmation.

It was a jamm packed episode. Thanks to everyone for their comments today. I am still reading them. I will come back when I am done.

Hasta Pronto

NovelaMaven--Now I know why I was thinking of Franco as a weasel. You called him a ferret a few episodes ago. He's misnamed--weasels and ferrets are quite cute. How about a cockroach, instead--one of those big Madagascar hissing roaches, or the common variety German ones, these latter definitely labeled as pests?

Ooops, it was Diana who referred to Franco as a ferret. Mil perdones, Diana, the Goddess of Wisdom.....(anyone--feel free to ask me where that came from...)

-- A quote from the capítulo --

Today’s selected quote is brought to you by the unredeemable villain of this story. In an exchange dripping with cynicism, hypocrisy and shiver-inducing slime, Humberto tells David:

“Ya no puedo heredarte nada porque la mala fortuna hizo que mis negocios quebraran, pero sí puedo aconsejarte bien... Porque aunque me tengas en el abandono, yo siempre te he querido y deseo lo mejor para tí, hijo!”

“I can’t pass down anything to you because bad luck made my business go bankrupt, but I am indeed able to give you good advice... Because although you have me neglected, I’ve always loved you and I desire the best for you, son!” (Urgh, gag me!)

Heredar= Has two related meanings:
1) to inherit. Example “Erick no podrá heredar la fortuna familiar en su totalidad porque tiene hermanos”, i.e. “Erick will not inherit the family fortune in its entirety because he has siblings” (and because he is certifiably stupid).
2) to bequeath, to pass down. Example: “Eladio va a heredar todas sus propiedades a su único hijo” / “Eladio will bequeath all his properties to his only son” (whomever he considers that to be).

La mala fortuna = bad luck ( or Humberto’s euphemism for gambling and whoring around).

Quebrar = to go bankrupt.

Abandono = abandonment, neglect.

Aconsejar = to advise, to counsel.

Bad luck? Gag me. He can only get away with that until Julia wakes up.

Aunty Ann..thanks so much for providing us with an excellent recap despite your heavy workload!

Hum reminded me of my Grammy Ruth who asked my mother "Will you take care of me if Georgie (her only child) dies?" One Christmas morning, our dad had severe toothache and my sister took him to the ER. She fretted awhile moaning "My poor Georgue." Then , she rallied , looked at my hubby, and announced "You're going to make me breakfast."Some folks are always numero uno on their lists.

I have been saying since the beginning that I just do not care about these people , but I have changed my mind. I hate these people.

Nandicta..I love the Arabic proverbs that you are giving us. In speaking class, I do a unit on Proverbs because they are great for introducing vocabulary and always spark interesting discussions. It is always fascinating because so many cultures have the same idea but expressed in different words. Americans say "If the shoe fits wear it," but another country (I forget which) says "If the glove fits, wear it."

I once had a Syrian student write me a note saying "You are more important to me than my doctor. My doctor can save my life, but you made my life." Is that an Arabic proverb? I have noticed that Arabic speaking students can be very poetic in expressing themselves.

One of my favorite sayings is Chinese (I think)."Those who speak do not know. Those who know do not speak." In English, we would say "Still waters run deep." In English, we say "Someone missed the boat," but one of my students said in her country(Dominican Republic..I think) they say "She missed the train."

Anita..Diana is definitely that!Wise and kind...a winning combination .

AuntyAnn, thank you SO MUCH! Also, thank you to Cynderella and Urban. I have read the recaps and always invigorating discussion, I'm just generally very late to the party. I appreciate y'alls wonderful recaps and the lively discussion and going back up to see what everyone thought of today's developments.

I remember a function that both couples attended, Nina was giving Eladio the eye, can't blame her for that.

OT

-- Susanlynn: It's great that you get to meet people of so many nationalities through your work. Knowing people from different cultures is the best thing that could happen to one, it's life-enriching and it fosters a sense of communion with fellow brothers and sisters in humanity. There are lot of similarities between proverbs because the wisdom gained from life's lessons is the same everywhere.

As regards that note your Syrian student gave you, it is a personal creation of his/hers, inspired by a long Arab tradition of venerating one's teachers and being indebted to them for life. The first revealed Koranic verse started with a one-word command: "Read!". A famous quote by Prophet Mohammad says: "Seek knowledge from cradle to tomb". A verse by "The Prince of Poets", Egyptian Ahmed Shawki, is taught to every kid at primary schools throughout the Arab World: "Stand in the presence of teachers and show them reverence for a teacher's status is akin to that of a divine messenger". Another widely known Arabic proverb goes: "I'm enslaved in gratitude to whoever teaches me a word". And these are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head! So you should be very proud of the work you do for its huge contribution to changing people's lives for the better! :)

Arabic is indeed a very poetic and "flowery" language. Spanish has striking similarities to Arabic in this respect but I believe that my native language is way harder; maybe even the hardest in the world. I've studied it all my life and I still speak just enough to pass for literate! To give you an example of how tough it is, the other day I was watching the Pan-Arab version of "The Voice" and this young lady sang a portion of a classic song whose lyrics are a poem by Ahmed Shawki. (Here's the video of that audition. She has a gorgeous voice and she plays "Oud": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGaMMHPkjPg).
I was familiar with the melody and I vaguely knew the lyrics described the pains of unrequited love and yearning for an unattainable lover (reminds you of anyone in PyP? :p ) So I went online to find the whole poem and I spent 5 hours, literally 5 hours, seeking word definitions to try to understand it! I would read 4 or 5 verses in a row where I could not understand a single word; I would not even have the slightest clue! This is how complex Arabic is and I can't tell how much I admire people from other cultures that attempt to learn it!

-- Variopinta: He IS a handsome devil, isn't he?

Nandicta...I know how to say more Arabic words than Spanish , but I cannot read Arabic. Whenever students teach cme a new word, I write it down phonetically. They are surprised if I call them "smart" or "hardworking" or tell thrm to "be quiet" or "speak English." My students love when I say anything to them in their native languages. I just had a student whose father teaches Arabic, and she told me how difficult Arabic grammar is. However, she thought that English had many more verb tenses (12 active voice tenses).

OT

-- Susanlynn: That's a great idea to address your students in their native language! It creates a stronger connection and it makes them want to rise to the occasion: if you're making the extra effort then they're motivated to do the same. Momtaz (Excellent) ya Susanlynn! Bravo aleiky :)

Ooops, that was me at 9:22.
