TELEMUNDO Y MÁS: Celia, Bajo el Mismo Cielo, Señora Acero, and Fatmagul: Week of December 14, 2015
Labels: bajo, celia, fatmagul, telemundo
On a more superficial note, technology use in the tn is consistent. Everyonebhas cell phones but the rich have smart phones while the poor people have clamshell text-only phones.
From Friday’s episode we see again Willy being killed by Colmillo. We see Gracie telling María that Anita is her baby, and not really being believed. We see the big raid of the La Colonia headquarters. [What took them so long?]
This episode goes back to the press conference where Erick says in the press conference that Adela’s legal situation is going to change very soon because they’re going to marry. Adela looks like she’s been sucking on lemons.
We see contrasting facial expressions as Carlos and Felicia watch the press conference on TV. Carlos’ face expresses abject misery while Felicia is happy (and smug).
The annoying reporter keeps asking Erick questions, specifically if he’s only planning to marry Adela to get her legal. He asks if she also loves Erick. Erick shuts him down by asking why he’s more interested in poking around in their private lives than finding out about the crimes of Alan.
Jay has managed to be alone with Sharon. He holds her and tells her that “the devil made me do it”; i.e. he had to do what Colmillo told him to do. He tells her that, if she survives, don’t try anything against EC; just disappear and go far, far away.
Rodrigo’s gang members are at his house. One of them Chapito has been shot. They tell Rod all about the raid. Rod thinks it all has to do with Colmillo.
The cops discuss the raid. They got almost a ton of cocaine, plenty of guns, and a lot of money.
Rod is cheering up the troops. He says that he has a lawyer on his way to get the gang members out of jail. Robert, the Anthrax leader, shows up. He says that the cops have hit two of his drug hideouts. And the same thing has happened to Los Alacranes. Rodrigo tells him they’re probably trying to find the one who blew up part of the hospital in an effort to kill Colmillo.
Gracie comes to the police station to talk to Cristóbal. But when Chabela goes on and on about how much he loves his sister, Felicia, even keeping it quiet that drugs were sold out of her bar, Gracie decides she won’t get his help and leaves.
Felicia just can’t stop poking at Carlos. She starts ragging on Adela. He reminds her that the two of them are only united by the baby. She eventually says she wants to know the truth about Adela to protect her child. Carlos then makes a big mistake. He tells her that Adela was in the gang, and that the gang eventually was after her to kill her. And that’s why she used a false name.
Andrés, the lawyer, tells Juana and Viewerville what Romy already told us. Juana can stay in the US legally because of being a victim of sexual abuse. He says she can also bring her mother and daughter to the US>
Jacob calls Erick into his office. He’s angry because Erick announced plans to marry Adela. Jacob tells him that he lied. And he never cleared this announcement with him. Erick says that what he said is true. He IS going to marry Adela. Jacob: “So they don’t deport her?” Erick: “For love. You know what I feel for her.” Jacob: “But she doesn’t feel that way about you!” Erick says that this will change with time. Jacob keeps on: “You told Adela that you were just going to be her friend. She thinks that such a marriage would mean nothing to you.” Erick says he doesn’t want to lose her. This is his last chance.
Both Juana and Ramona keep pressuring Adela to marry Erick. They also believe he’s only being a good friend to her.
Felicia can’t seem to understand how much she pushes Carlos away when she attacks Adela. She says she knew Adela had a bad past. He tells her that Adela could be in danger. Feli snarks that Rodrigo is the head of the gang and is madly in love with her. She then ticks off on her fingers what she thinks. She says that Adela came to live with Carlos in order to hide from the gang. Then she got Rodrigo to save her life by getting him to fall for her. And now she's got this other guy to marry her so as to avoid being deported. Carlos finally storms out slamming the door behind him.
Sharon manages to crawl over to Willy’s body. She sobs about her brother and manages to use his phone to call Luis for help. Luis and Susy go there and discover the awful scene. Sharon has a faint pulse, and Luis calls 911.
We see María having no luck in finding work in different types of restaurants.
We get another terrific and funny scene with Rodolfo. The guy is a complete jerk, but kudos to the actor. He’s doing a terrific job portraying this low-life lothario. We see him hanging out at some bar and listening to a guy named Patricio sing. [This is funny. The Patricio actor nearly always plays a doctor delivering the bad news to the protagonists or a lawyer discussing someone’s will. And he sang!] Rodolfo is drooling over the young things that come into the bar. He warns the bartender in a funny rhyming speech about staying away from marriage. A woman playing pool starts flirting with him. She turns out to be Patricio’s wife!
Adela avoids talking things over with Erick. But he lies some more. He tells her that he’s only offering to marry her as a friend. And he tells her he only said those things about loving her to convince the press conference that it wouldn’t be a fake marriage.
Carlos and Santiago are having a drink at La Frontera. Santiago says he can’t understand how Juana could say all those things about Alan on TV, but could not tell him. [He’s starting to bore me. I thought he knew she kept him out of the picture so Alan wouldn’t get him deported.] Jacob shows up, and Carlos asks again and again if Adela is going to marry Erick. Jacob refuses to tell him anything.
They try to fake us out with a scene of EC looking toward someone’s house. And then they show Adela in her apartment. Someone knocks on her door.
But EC has come to see Gracie at Carlos' house, and Felicia has come, with the baby, to see Adela.
Felicia tells Adela she’s come to show her that Carlos has a family that makes him happy. [Huh? Seeing Felicia and the baby together does NOT prove that Carlos is happy in this threesome.] Felicia tells Adela that, in her press conference, she missed saying that she was the gang member most sought by the gang to be killed.
Colmillo tells Gracie she’s not on his list of enemies. He tells her their common enemy is Rodrigo, and he wants to get justice for her.
Adela tells Felicia that she knows perfectly well that she refused Rodrigo. She overheard her do it. But it suits Felicia to have Carlos believe that she and Rodrigo are lovers.
After Gracie admits she hates Rodrigo, EC tells Gracie that Carlos would always choose his son over her. He also says that Felicia betrayed her. [How the heck does he know this?] He tells Gracie that she needs him because she’s all alone.
Santiago spills the beans to Jacob that Rodrigo is in love with Adela. Jacob is shocked.
Adela starts fighting back verbally. She says to Felicia. “Is this why you showed up…to find out for sure if I’m getting married, to see my engagement ring? Relax. It’s been quite a while since Carlos and I were together, but you still imagine me breathing down your neck. You’re so insecure that you have to show up here begging me to marry someone!”
Rodrigo is watching the press conference on his tablet. He starts out worrying because Adela will have had to give her real name to the police and then sees Erick saying he’s going to marry Adela!
Adela hears another knock on her door. This time it’s Rodrigo. She forces him onto the landing, saying he’s never coming in her house again. She lights into him saying he went to tell Carlos how he felt about her and left him thinking there might be something between them. She yells at him asking him why he didn’t tell his father that she never returned those feelings. Rod: “And now you’re going to marry some guy?” Adela: “This is none of your business.” Rod: “I held back before because you were with my father. If there’s another guy, well no way! Get it through your head. You’re mine!” And he starts some more of the forced kissing.
wow, thanks novelera !!!
you're the best!
Joe Colmillo sure isn't a secret Santa,
spreading Christmas joy during the holiday season.
Andrés Zúñiga (Yei) really brings his (what would this word be) to the table.
Fabulous recap as always, and right on the money with everything.
I too was wondering how EC knew about Felicia's betrayal?
I need to be reminded of how and when Felicia saw Adela reject Rodrigo. I know Maria witnessed a rejection.
Feliz Navidad to SpanProf and to all. SP, have a lovely trip.
Chat later
Floridia, Felicia heard Adela reject Rodrigo at the apartment building where they both lived, he with Gracie, and she with Juana. I can't remember why Felicia had come there in the first place, but she was hiding behind one of the convenient telenovela corners or posts and heard Rodrigo's passionate declaration and Adela telling him no way.
Wonderful recap, Novelera. It covered all the important events, was a delight to read, and helped me see much that I had failed to understand. Muchísimas gracias.
I too found Santiago boring in this episode. To be honest, I had already lost patience with him in an earlier episode where he was a maudlin drunk. Instead of feeling his pain, I found myself feeling mine at having to watch him. [That's probably harsher than I mean it to be, but it would take me too long to find the right words.]
I wouldn't be all that surprised if Greicy joins forces with Colmillo. She's all alone and very vulnerable, and he can be a smooth, persuasive guy when he wants to be.
The character I disliked most in last night's episode wasn't Santiago, nor Colmillo, nor Rudolfo, nor Rodrigo, but Felicia. She gives perras a bad name.
Juanita, AMEN about Felicia. She burned all the sympathy I had for her about the loss of her baby over the last couple of episodes.
Novelera, Thanks for the clarification. I remember now that Felicia was lurking outside and overheard. It may have been after Greicy spoke to Feli over the phone and Feli sensed something wrong with G and went to see her.
Totally agree about Santiago. Most of this is not dragged out, but this segment truly is.
I am thinking that Sharon needs to be kept alive because she would be the only person
to give information regarding Felicia getting Willy to kill her husband. Otherwise,
Felicia has a deep, dark secret that she alone knows. Of course, the information would appear to be hearsay, but Felicia might break at some point and admit it.
Waiting for tonight ..................
Floridia, good point about Sharon. I was thinking that if she were alive, she could testify against Colmillo, but I had forgotten that she also knew about Felicia's getting Willy to kill her husband. Even if Sharon's testimony isn't legally sufficient (as you say, it might be dismissed as hearsay), it would very likely be enough to humiliate Felicia and knock her off her self-righteous pedestal. (Have I mentioned that I don't like Felicia? :-) )
Nett.
felica overheard rodigo telling adela he liked her was when she found out about the wedding ceremony and went looking for greicy to demand info.
OK, there's a good deal that I missed last night, but I thought I'd give a try to putting together this recap. I'll be bunching things together, rather than putting them when they occurred in the episode. Please jump in and add/correct.
Last night's episode started where the previous one left off, with Rodrigo forcefully kissing Adela and telling her "you are MINE!" She pushes him away and somehow manages to pull a gun on him--did she bring it with her? Or did she take it somehow from wherever Rodrigo had one hidden? He tells her to go ahead and shoot him, being fairly confident that she won't (perhaps because, in spite of his having been at least partly responsible for the deaths of her brother and mother, he still is blindly convinced that she loves him). She doesn't shoot, but not because she loves him, but because "I'm not an assassin." Rod is very upset that Erick is planning to marry her. You have no love for him, no passion. Why are you doing this? Do you want papers (to enable her to avoid being deported)? I can get you false papers. Whatever you want, I can get it for you. Let's go to Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia, wherever. Buy a finca, have kids. Adela replies: "All I want is for you to disappear from my life. And also don't you dare harm Erick. Promise me that you won't hurt him." Rodrigo swears on his mother's memory that he won't touch Erick. However, later on in the episode, he tells Gacho that he's not going to allow Adela to marry Erick. Gacho asks how Rod plans to do that. Rod just gives one of his pensive looks.
There's also the continuation of the scene from the previous episode between Greicy and Colmillo. Perhaps the most important part of last night's scene between them was when Colmillo offers his condolences on the death of her daughter (mi más sentido pésame). She's about to tell him that her daughter isn't really dead, but she stops herself in time to ask him "If Rodrigo's daughter had lived and she was very important to him, what would you do?" He tells her, "You figure it out." Seems pretty clear to me, and apparently to Greicy as well. [I wonder, though, whether even asking "what if" may be enough to eventually make Colmillo suspicious.]
At some point, the scene shifts to the hospital, where Sharon is fighting for her life after having been shot by Yei. Luis, Susy, and Nick are there and are waiting for news. A doctor comes by and tells them that things don't look good, and that [OK, readers, all together now:] "The next few hours will be critical." Is this the only thing that telenovela doctors learn in med school?
Apparently, the next few hours are not so much critical as miraculous. Sharon awakens, and the doctor comes to tell her three waiting friends that she has asked to see....Luis. [Sorry, Nick. But it's possible you may triumph at the end.] Luis goes to see her. She tries to sit up, but then says she can't move. Luis says it's probably because of the anesthesia. Uh Oh.... She seems interested in getting back together again with Luis. He tries not to respond to her statements and simply asks her what happened, who shot her, was it people from La Colonia? She refuses to answer. She asks him to tell his brother that she wants to talk to him.
Carlos is still very depressed after seeing Erick announce on TV that he is going to marry Adela. He goes to Felicia's [hiss here]. She has prepared his favorite meal. He tells her he's not hungry. She coos and wheedles and eventually he comes around, eats her meal, and kisses her. But Felicia doesn't know when to stop. She goes on about how the two people he cared most about have betrayed him: Rodrigo and Mati/Adela (Felicia keeps emphasizing Mati's supposed duplicity by referring to her by both names.). She doesn't seem to realize how much what she says is hurting Carlos. He storms out.
I think he goes to the bar, where he, Santiago, and Jacob drown their sorrows in a bottle of tequila. Jacob at least has some self-control and says nothing about Maria, but Santiago is again his maudlin self, and I found it painful just to watch this scene. FF
Felicia isn't the only perra in this episode. Paulina comes to Erick's apartment, ostensibly to give him a battery charger for his phone that he left at the office. He's surprised that she thought this was so important, since he's got 30 cargadores that he could use. Of course, that's not really why Paulina came by. She wants to talk about (and hopefully undermine) Erick's marriage plans. Did his family watch the TV broadcast? What do they think about his plans to marry una indocumentada that no one has even met? Paulina continues: Adela is surrounded by mysteries, and who knows what surprises she'll have if you marry her? Paulina also expresses doubts that Erick's plan to live with Adela "as friends" will work. She predicts that Erick will wind up hating Adela.
There is also one or perhaps two scenes between Erick and Adela. In one, he says "I want to marry you, but I want to know what you want." She at first tries to put the conversation off, but finally she says "Yes, I'm going to marry you." (This happens soon after a scene with Juana in which Juana again urges Adela to marry Erick, a man without a past and not surrounded by people who want to harm her.)
Either in the above scene between Erick and Adela or in another one, we see Adela worried about the possibility of Rodrigo hurting Erick. Erick asks whether he should take some kind of precautions. Adela says yes. She tells him that Rodrigo has promised not to touch Erick, but she's not sure she can trust him. Given what she has told Erick, I was stunned that the next thing he says is that they should have a big wedding. He claims it's to convince the immigration people that they're not getting married just to prevent her being deported. However, his plans seem excessive and ill-advised. He also mentions that she should meet his family. Adela seems surprised and perhaps reluctant.
Near the end of the episode, there's a very important scene between Felicia and Cristóbal. He has come to see her and wants to be sure she's alone. He then tells her that Willy is dead. She says that the death of someone so young is always sad, but why did Cristóbal think she would care so much, since she didn't really know Willy all that well. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out what looks like an evidence envelope containing Willy's cellphone. He admits that he shouldn't be doing this, but he wants her to see something on the phone, and she should see it by herself. It turns out to be a loving video that Willy had made, addressed to his baby daughter. He shows her a little outfit has has bought for her, and tells her that she and Felicia are the two most important people in his life. Cristóbal is very disappointed in Felicia and keeps asking her why she slept with Willy.
The episode's final scene takes place at Carlos' house and involves Greicy and her mother. Carlos has sent for Greicy's mother, and she now arrives. There's a warm embrace, and after Carlos leaves, Greicy tells her mother that her nieta is alive. She explains the circumstances, and tells her that Felicia refuses to give the baby back, that Felicia blames Greicy for the death of Felicia's high-risk-pregnancy baby. Greicy's mother is outraged and says she's going to see Felicia, and if she continues to refuse, she (G's mother) will denounce her to the police. I think it's on these words that the episode ends.
Thanks, Juanita. Simply excellent with many details. One thing not touched on was the evidence of the DNA test that Cristobal found in Willy's effects. Even though, I thought that Felicia did not admit to her brother that she slept with Willy, this test would indicate otherwise. Why else would she be giving Willy a sample of saliva?
Anonymous, you may be right that Rod heard about Felicia, Willy, and her husband's death, but I am also wondering if Rod figured out that Felicia intended to kill Mati.
I think either one of those was the reason that he was able to blackmail her into using her bar. I guess I better take notes in the future.
Juanita, ditto on the possible paralysis of Sharon; I hope not; supposed big wedding with pictures in the society pages etc.,and Greicy's "hypothetical" question to EC about the baby. I cannot believe that she let that out! She knows that EC killed her supervisor...and others.
There is nothing like an outraged mother (or two of them) fighting for their children!
Nevertheless, the original problem of how to keep the baby safe from Rodrigo if and when he learns the truth--still exists. There seem to be no plans in place to take care of this eventual reality.
Many thanks again for your top notch work.
All the best,
Thanks VERY much, Floridia, for your very interesting and encouraging message. You're right--I had meant to include the DNA letter. I even had it in the scribbled notes I took, but I couldn't decipher most of my handwriting!
And yes, Colmillo isn't the only one Greicy needs to worry about. Rodrigo is likely to go ballistic if/when (most probably when) he finds out that his daughter is alive and has been deliberately kept from him by Greicy.
Wow. There are so many problems to be resolved in these últimas semanas!
Juanita, thanks so much for the recap. Wow, you got so many great details!
It was not clear to me if Cristóbal actually watched the video on the cell phone. But he did, one way or another, find out that she slept with Willy. At least Felicia had the good grace to shed a tear for Willy. I half expected her to be overjoyed he was out of her hair.
I am SO disappointed in Adela for agreeing to marry Erick. Her instincts should be better than that in that she should know he’s really in love with her and plans the classic telenovela other man move: get the woman either married or in a relationship with him and she’ll fall in love eventually. Don’t these guys watch telenovelas?
An important thing Sharon could tell is Jay being EC’s sidekick. It’s odd Rodrigo hasn’t noticed his absence.
What is Gracie’s mother’s name? I’m pretty sure that actress played a very annoying mother-in-law in Los Dueños del Paraíso. The fat’s going to definitely be in the fire when Felicia is confronted by that determined woman who wants her granddaughter.
And completely off topic, I’ve seen a couple of movies lately where Kate del Castillo has an English speaking role. She was in No Good Deed and got killed in the first 10 minutes. She was in another movie, can’t remember the name where she played an awful woman who was involved in human trafficking for sex slaves.
Romy
Novelera, I think Cristóbal must have seen at least a part of Willy's video. How else would he know that Felicia should see it and see it by herself? It's not clear whether he saw the whole thing, but my guess is that his curiosity would have been sufficiently aroused by what he saw that he'd keep watching.
I didn't recognize Greicy Cordero's mother as the Mother-in-Law From Hell in Dueños del Paraiso, but I don't have a good recollection of faces. I think the character you're thinking of is Adan Romero's mother, yes? I tried looking at full casts at IMDB for both novelas, but I couldn't find a match. There was someone called Delia Romero, played by Yadira Santana, and there is a Yadira Santana listed in Bajo, but she plays a character named Lourdes. I assumed that was one of the women in the early episodes with Juana in the field. But I'm not at all sure.
And yes, she was Adan Romero's mother who screwed things up every time she turned around!
As I understand it, morra o morrita means girl or young woman.
In slangy Mexican speech (and in novelas gangbangers) call all women morras when they don't use something more vulgar.
So, I guess when Juana is calling Adela morra it would be as if I called a friend "girl". This is common in the black community. I have a friend who calls me girl, even though I'm waaaay beyond girlhood.
Thanks, Novelera,
I like to know these inside tips. Contrastingly, Adela calls Juana, "Hombre" often.
What I especially like is how the character of Felicia has been written.
She is shown to have a genuinely kind and caring side to her unlike the traditional
UniVision female villains who are generally pure evil - from my limited viewing experience.
This is a short one.
Cristóbal isn’t happy with Felicia’s explanations about her relationship with Willy.
Ramona is going to help Jacob find a chef for the restaurant.
Sharon’s spine is damaged and she won’t walk again.
Gracie’s mother is a tough cookie.
We see lots of Jay and Colmillo plotting. EC tells Jay that he fooled Gracie into believing that he won’t harm Carlos and Luis.
Erick and Adela get a marriage license.
EC finds out Sharon isn’t dead from the newspaper. He also wants to find out everything about Erick.
Rodrigo finally realizes that Jay is MIA. He gets him to come to his house and eventually swear to the gang members that the Adela Morales in the newspaper is not the one who “betrayed” the gang.
Carlos comes to fix María’s sink and finds out that she knew about Rodrigo being in love with Adela and kept quiet. María does tell him that both Adela and Rodrigo told her that Adela did not return Rod’s affections.
Juana is thrilled Adela is marrying Erick and doesn’t seem to want it to only be for Adela to get papers. After some conversation between the two Erick and Juana decide Rod won’t harm him because his marrying her would prevent her from being deported.
Gracie’s mother comes to see Felicia. She says she’s taking her daughter far away like Felicia wants, but not without her granddaughter.
Carlos agonizes over the things he said to Adela when he accused her of being involved with Rod.
The DNA results are in. None of the bodies in the explosion were Colmillo. Cristóbal realizes he’s alive.
Erick brings Adela to his fancy apartment. She’s impressed and says it should be for the woman who will make him happy. He tells her they have to live here to convince La Migra.
Rodolfo’s kids find a napkin with a lipstick kiss and Estela’s phone number in his suitcase. Of course he didn’t bring them anything!
Rodrigo comes to the hospital to see Sharon, but she appears to chicken out and not tell him who killed Willy and shot her. Maybe tomorrow.
Erick’s parents arrive to find Adela there. His mother approaches and says this is her future daughter-in-law and smiles.
Just catching up for the last few days. Thanks novelera, You said it would be a "short one", but I could see you getting more detailed as you went along. Perfect summary. Much appreciated.
and thank you Juanita for yesterday's magnum opus. Also much appreciated, as I've missed out on a lot this week due to holiday deadlines.
these writers are doing justice to Adela's dilemma. The tantalizing offers of security and a fabulously appointed apartment (complete with a set of in-laws) against her true feelings and almost certain loss of all she holds dear. And Carlos' dawning realization that maybe Adela never did betray him, but instead made the ultimate sacrifice. Has this sunk into his brain yet? or is it still just dawning as the evidence in her favor accumulates.
Glad for Gracie's mom; throws a new dynamic into this logjam. She seems like a fierce mother bear, but with a touch of King Solomon. Let's hope she's more strategic than impulsive.
But the plots are tightening up all around. Especially as Colmillo and Rod gather their forces for the final conflict. How much damage will we see before the finale?
I'll pop in to comment when I get the chance, but THANKS to all for keeping this conversation lively.
Great summary, Novelera. Concise and informative. Many thanks!
I'm surprised that Sharon doesn't have a police guard at her hospital room. In fact, I don't think the police have even tried to question her. Even though she hasn't (yet) told anyone who killed Willy and tried to kill her, the police should realize that she may be able to do so, and especially now that the newspapers have reported that she is still alive, she may be in danger. Yei certainly must realize this, since he was present when Colmillo read the newspaper article and commented on the fact that Yei hadn't succeeded in killing her. Colmillo will almost surely want to shut her up permanently. It's not clear whether he will trust Yei to finish the job or do so himself. I find myself wondering whether Yei will remain loyal to Colmillo.
Many, many thanks as always.
This format for a recap is quite sufficient for me. It jogs the memory on all the important points and does not put too much of a burden on the recapper.
As I mentioned a week or so ago, we can ask clarifying questions if necessary.
The camera/video system in Erick's apartment was disturbing. Too much raw emotion
remaining from Alan's invasive forays watching Juana.
Adela and Erick discussed going out on dates with others while living together.
Adela thinks this could be happening. Erick is allowing her to think this.
Erick is an enigma. His facial expressions at times portray a dark side and at times
just the opposite, a desire to help humanity.
With the short time, remaining, we will soon find out how it all enfolds.
Erick is kind of an enigma. I've never liked the guy much, but I forgave him when he helped save Juana. And I believed him the one time he said he was resigned to Adela not loving him and they could just be friends.
Their scene in his luxury apartment was very interesting and well acted by both. Adela goes on and on about the apartment, lapsing into barrio girl descriptions. This is something that emphasizes the vast class differences between them. This is something that would present problems even if she loved him.
She kept talking about the future wife he'd have living here, and he reluctantly agreed. But it was written all over his face that he doesn't want anyone else.
He said something about hijos being raised in the apartment, and Adela looked startled. He then covered his tracks by saying he meant his children (with someone else) and her children (with someone else) spending time together there.
Hi everyone! I just wanted to drop by to offer my thanks to the incredible team of recappers for this novela. I haven't even been watching it (I swore off Telemundo after seeing the hack job they did on our beloved 'Reina de corazones') but have been following the recaps which have drawn me in further and further. This is a good novela!
You can consider me now, a 'Bajo' convert and it's all thanks to the recappers. Thanks for doing this novela justice.
Hi, N. Lopez and welcome! We faithful few are definitely enjoying Bajo el Mismo Cielo. It's had very little filler and just roars along at a great pace.
I have a hard time believing this wedding is going to happen. And I haven't been too happy with the chorus of Juana and Ramona pushing Adela so hard to marry Erick. They aren't really talking about the real reason - avoiding deportation - but seem to be wanting her to fall for him.
Sharon continues to be a wuss. OK, she was traumatized. But SHE was the one who asked to see Rodrigo and then wouldn't tell him about EC.
I'm glad to see Jacob is no longer resisting Luis and Susy's relationship. The writers, and the actors, have nicely shown the maturing of these two. They are obviously meant for each other.
Felicia's always all about Felicia. Of course, she's right in the sense that Viewerville knows Gracie and Lourdes are going to try to take the baby. But Feli couldn't manage to be happy for Carlos' big new hotel business and had to rain on his parade.
Tonight should be very interesting!
Romy
Romy, you and I are definitely on the same page about Juana and Ramona!
I didn't mention dirtbag Rodolfo getting it on with Estela in his own house after he pushed and pushed María to go back to work at La Frontera. She asked him how many tocados (I think that's what they call them) or gigs he got on his trip. He then guiltily remembered he didn't arrange anything except his sex life.
She told him to remember she warned him and that he would se atenga a la consecuencias. He was curious about that, but she didn't elaborate. She surely meant that he was pushing her into Jacob's arms.
Romy
Novelera and Romy, I too have been disappointed in Juana and Ramona pushing so forcefully for Adela to marry (and fall in love with) Erick. Until now, those two women have provided Adela and others with lots of sensible advice. And as you (Romy) point out, even the advice to marry Erick makes a certain amount of sense if the marriage is done purely for pragmatic reasons. But I guess Juana and Ramona have watched one too many telenovelas ending with bodas and Happily Ever After. Apparently they don't know that we're only in últimas semanas!
Novelera, I was really shocked at seeing the sex worker lying on the floor with her throat cut. But then I realized that Colmillo had to kill her. He wants it to look as if El Faier is to blame for the other gang leader's death, resulting in a gang war between La Colonia and the other gang. If the sex worker were alive, she could let people know that Colmillo was the killer. Of course, there's also the fact that he seems to enjoy killing.
What person with half a brain wold allow themselves be tied to the bed, let alone a gang member, & gang leader on top of that???????? Que, what the F. estupido! imbecile!
Any # of people could have set it up, dumb! idiota!!!!
I can understand Juana & Ramona pushing Adela, they want her to be happy, legal & safe. Erick loves her & appears kind & understanding ( I have managed to almost erase his image from his last novela) I kind of think his death warrant is signed if the boda goes through.
They think Carlos is in deep with Felicia & (their) baby.
Anyone know when this one is over, I need to get back to Pasion y poder.
WENT OUT VERY EARLY TODAY AND JUST RETURNED.
I agree with all the comments about pushing Adela. They want the best for her but are
getting carried away.
I hate the scenes with Colmillo. Better that the brutality be left to our imaginations.
What I don't understand is that if Carlos and Adela were now on good terms and he
should suddenly propose marriage to her, what good would that do? The other ceremony
he planned was not a "real" wedding; they still cannot get legally married.
How is she going to be saved from deportation?
Floridia, a couple of possibilities occur to me. Adela marries Erick and Rodrigo kills him after her legal status has been arranged. I don't like the guy, but he really doesn't deserve that as a way to get Adela legal.
Or Colmillo comes after her and, because she'd been threatened with death, she gets her legal status.
Believe me these are wild speculations on my part. I know absolutely nothing about what is going to happen. I don't even watch the previews of the next episode.
Floridia, I've been wondering about the same question you asked: how will Adela be saved from deportation if she doesn't marry Erick. I confess that I don't have an answer, though Novelera has just proposed two possibilities. I agree with her, however, that killing Erick seems like too extreme a solution. I like her second possibility a bit more, having Adela gain legal status because she's been threatened with death. But wouldn't the threat have to relate to the person's status as undocumented (as was the case with Juana)? Can any undocumented person in the US claim legal status because they've been threatened with death? Perhaps Romy can shed some light on this.
hmm, my take on how things will go, goes back to the gardener, also known as Saint Carlos, who has been woven into every storyline and into everyone's life, it will fall to him to make things right, but there are those who will not accept any solution other than death, like Colmillo, and Rodrigo sure likes to walk that fence between good and evil.
and Adela is married...
an interesting piece that I don't think was talked about but Cristobal told Felicia that entering into evidence the dna results and Willy's phone would make her part of the investigation, oh no, Felicia pleaded, Carlos will find out I slept with Willy, and so I guess Chris didn't, and still has those items.
The episode opens at the funeral...oops, I mean the boda of Adela and Erick. Adela, too, apparently thinks she's at a funeral. Hers. Juana, Ramona, and Susy try to cheer her up. Ramona tells her to remember that this is just a marriage of "friends." But Adela says she's wrong, that men are men, and once they're married, Erick can make her do whatever he wants. Susy says she's wrong, that she (Susy) has known Erick for a long time, and he's a decent man who would not make Adela do anything she doesn't want.
In addition to her own misgivings and uncertainties about marrying Erick, Adela has to deal with hostility from others. Erick's father tells her that almost all the guests at the wedding are his friends, and "they don't have the slightest realization that this wedding is a farce." Paulina, too, comes to see Adela as she's getting ready for the ceremony. Paulina accuses Adela of sacrificing Erick in a marriage without love and calls her a selfish person (egoista) and an upstart, a social climber (arribista).
There's also a commotion not involving Adela. Susy's ex-boyfriend Bryan comes with his parents to the wedding (his parents are friends of Erick's family). Bryan quickly gets quite drunk, comes into Susy's bedroom, throws her onto her bed, and tries to have sex with her against her will. She screams at him, and her screams are heard in the room where most of the main participants in the wedding are. Jacob hears his daughter's screams, races into her room, pulls Bryan off her, drags him into the other room, and tells everyone what Bryan had done (propasarse con mi hija - to take liberties with my daughter). He and Erick both ask Bryan and his parents to leave, and Jacob warns him to have nothing more to do with Susy.
In contrast to the chaos and depression Adela is experiencing, Carlos is revelling at the luxurious site of his newest contract. The hotel owner who hired him, Mr. Fisher, comes by and tells him how pleased he is. Carlos tells him that Luis created much of the design. Mr. Fisher asks Luis whether he's considered getting a scholarship to the university. Carlos is delighted at Mr. Fisher's words, since Carlos, too, would like Luis to go to the university. Mr. Fisher also tells Carlos that he is so impressed with the work Carlos has done that he is recommending him to the owners of other hotels in the chain.
Meanwhile, back at the boda, Adela asks Erick about the guards at the entrance to the Sanders' house where the wedding is being held. Erick tells her that they're to provide security, especially from Rodrigo. (And, indeed, earlier in the episode, Adela had confessed to Juana that she was worried about what Rodrigo might do to prevent her from marrying Erick.)
The worries about Rodrigo are, of course, well founded. We see Rodrigo first trying to get information from several Anthrax gang members about the murder of their leader. The bloodied gang members have clearly been beaten up. One of them talks back to Rodrigo, and Rodrigo says to one of his La Colonia buddies (Trenzas?), "I don't like this guy" (este guey me cayo mal), whereupon the buddy takes out his gun and kills the guy. Rodrigo then has the remaining two Anthrax members taken to the basement, and he tells Yei to torture them to get information, and if they don't talk, kill them. I have the feeling that the writers are now emphasizing Rodrigo's evil side to prepare us for his coming death.
At the same time that Rodrigo is dealing with the Anthrax gang members, he's also talking to Gacho on the phone. Apparently Gacho has been tasked with following Adela and reporting back to Rodrigo. Gacho tells him that it looks as if there's about to be a wedding, she's about to marry Erick. Rodrigo immediately prepares to meet Gacho outside the Sanders' house. However, his plans are thwarted by the arrival of two carloads of Anthrax members who come with guns blazing. He and the other La Colonia members return fire. During the gun battle, Rodrigo is shot in the leg. He tries to tie a makeshift tourniquet around the leg and then leave for the wedding, but he gets another call from Gacho telling him he's too late, the marriage has taken place. Rodrigo is devastated and hurls his cell phone across the room.
Back at the Sanders' house, the wedding ceremony finally begins. Adela remains in funeral mode, with a blank look on her face. Jacob, who is officiating, offers words appropriate for the wedding, but they make her think back to Carlos and how happy she was. When Jacob gets to the part where he asks her whether she takes Erick to be her husband, she doesn't respond. We have to wait through several minutes of commercials and then more silence from her before she finally says yes. Jacob pronounces them husband and wife and says they may now kiss. Erick leans toward her, and she gives him a very tame, almost sisterly kiss.
While the wedding has been progressing, Luis talks to Susy on the phone and Santiago overhears him say something about not telling Carlos. Santiago asks what it was, and when he finds out that today is when Adela is marrying Erick, he very strongly urges Luis to tell Carlos. Luis doesn't want to spoil Carlos' happiness, but Santiago insists that Carlos deserves to know. Luis finally tells Carlos, giving Gabriel Porras another opportunity to use the blank, stunned look we first saw when he heard Erick's announcement at the news conference several days earlier. With Santiago urging him on, Carlos decides he must try to stop the wedding. He and Luis get into his truck, and Carlos drives like a madman, narrowly avoiding several accidents.
I've not said anything about Felicia, but she has been unwilling to leave the house while Carlos is away. She is afraid of what Greicy and her mother might do. In separate scenes Maria and Cristóbal urge her to get outside, enjoy the sun, go shopping, live her life. It will be better for both her and her baby. She finally decides to take their advice. (She seems unfamiliar with the saying "just because you're paranoid doesn't mean someone isn't out to get you.") We see her pushing the baby carriage down a street with stores. She is unaware that Greicy and her mother are following her. She pauses before a store window. Greicy's mother decides to act. She tells Greicy that she (Greicy) has suffered enough, and that if something goes wrong, she doesn't want Greicy to wind up in prison. (Fierce mother love seems to run in the family.) The mother moves forward, just as Felicia takes her hands off the baby carriage and moves a few steps closer to the store window to get a better look.
Erick and Adela are now married. Erick proposes a toast, and the guests chant "beso, beso." The couple exchange another very tame kiss, but this time Erick whispers to her "we have to have a real kiss, it has to look convincing, just this once, just today." Adela complies, and of course she and he look as if they're really into it....just as Carlos and Luis arrive. End of episode.
Another interesting week in Turkey for our characters…
Part 1:
The Yasaran Family:
Salim is on his best behavior these days as he tries to impress his not very impressed future father-in-law, Turaner Alagöz. Salim’s father (and head of the family/company) Resat Yasaran, really wants this marriage to happen, as he and Turaner are in the middle of closing a deal that involves buying up land for development in the coastal town where this all started. Ebe Nine had been a real pain in their side, as she both owns some of the land they want to buy, and was instrumental in convincing her neighbors not to sell either, because of the environmental damage it would cause. The fact that now the residents hate her because of her rapist son, and she has just decided to sell her house (and possibly her land) to help her new family out financially, is an early New Year’s present to them. The land that Fatmagul and her brother own is also valuable property to the project, and Mukaddes and Munir are working to swindle it from them.
Erdogan and his father Rifat (younger brother of Resat) get upset about Resat basically cutting Rifat out of this important deal and other big deals in the company. Erdogan wants overthrow his uncle. As father and son argue about this, Rifat has a heart attack and dies. Resat seems to genuinely mourn his little brother’s death. Erdogan’s mother goes into a depression (she is also the sister of Salim’s mother and Munir). Erdogan swears revenge on his uncle and is more determined to overthrow him. He inherits all of his father’s shares in the company (much to Munir’s displeasure). In order to try to dilute Erdogan’s power, Resat gives Salim some of his shares, to have more votes on his side in company decisions. Erdogan hires Vural as his right hand man. Then, as a veiled threat to his uncle (who had threatened to reveal Erdogan’s part in the rape if he didn’t step in line), he hires Mustafa as his personal driver! Now, most of our players are working together in the same place. It’s a powder keg waiting to explode.
Mustafa and Asu:
Mustafa is not as smart as I gave him credit for. Despite the newspaper article that pointed to Salim, Erdogan, and Vural as Fatmagul’s rapists, he has completely bought the story that Fatamagul was having an affair with Kerim, she lied about the rape, and the Yasaran and their friends are good people. Never mind that it makes NO sense that they would take so much interest in him if they had nothing to do with it, or look so guilty all the damn time whenever they run into him, or that he knows Fatmagul is not that kind of person! Anyway, he’s still on a quest to find and kill Kerim and Fatmagul, but he chills out a bit as the weeks/months pass (and he’s sent to cold Russia a few times to help the process). His face to face meeting with Kerim at the passport office goes nowhere since he’s never seen him before, but later as he delivers papers to Munir, he drops them, sees Kerim’s visa application and his picture. He realizes Kerim was the guy at the passport office, but doesn’t seem to find it odd that the Yasaran are helping him leave the country. He gets crazy drunk, and ends up spending the night at his prostitute friend’s house (Asu). Kerim tells Fatmagul that Mustafa is leaving the country, and she escapes the house early the next morning to call him from a pay phone. He’s passed out, so Asu answers his phone. Fatmagul asks who she is, and is then distraught believing that Mustafa has moved on to a new love and forgotten her.
Asu is convinced the caller was the treacherous Fatmagul Mustafa is mooning over. She tells him about the call and her suspicions. She then investigates the neighborhood where the call was placed. By chance, she hears Fatmagul’s landlord and his son discussing Fatmagul and Kerim and their strange family. She befriends the son, who falls for her, and eventually ends up pulling up in a boat with him in front of Fatmagul and Kerim and their house. The four eventually end up on a double date, sightseeing in the city. Asu observes Fatmagul, and can’t seem to reconcile the sweet girl she sees, with the femme fatale Mustafa has described. She decides that Fatma must be faking being nice. She doesn’t tell Mustafa that she found Fatmagul and knows where she and Kerim live.
Asu gets around, and her new client is Vural. But they don’t have sex. Vural’s conscience is still weighing heavily on him, and he seems to be curing it by talking to and cuddling with Asu over multiple nights, instead of downing booze and drugs like before.
Musafa’s parents come to town because his mother needs dialysis. They see him with Asu (his supposed friend and coworker) and assume she is a “good girl” he should date (and forget Fatmagul). If only they knew! They are not pleased to learn he’s working for the Yasaran. Mustafa claims it has nothing to do with Fatmagul and that the Yasaran are good people. He later finds a picture of Kerim with the other three guys in Erdogan’s car- it’s from the engagement party/rape night. He realizes that Kerim is the guy he saw speaking to Fatmagul that night.
Fatmagul and Kerim:
Ebe Nine convinces Fatmagul to go back to school—finish secondary school, and go on to college. Mukaddes doesn’t like this one bit, of course.
Kerim gets his visa for Belgium. Ebe Nine is distraught about his departure, while Fatmagul (says she) can’t wait to see the back of him. He leaves her a heartfelt letter about his feelings for her and his regret over what happened (without saying he loves her), along with a bank book for the account he took out in her name where he placed all the rape hush money, and a document for her to start divorce proceedings. She tears up the bank book, but keeps the letter and divorce document. Over the course of many episodes, we see her take out that letter and read it over and again. She keeps it hidden, first under her pillow, and then under her mattress.
Kerim only makes it as far as the check-in counter at the airport gate. Every step he takes brings a new thought of Fatmagul. He realizes that he loves her, and wherever he goes, he will not be able to get her out of his head and heart. Ebe Nine is over the moon happy that he’s returned, and even more so when he confesses his love for Fatmagul to her. Neither one of them sees Fatmagul listening around the corner. Needless to say, Fatmagul does not greet his return with open arms (but she does run a brush through her hair). Mukaddes and Rahmi and clueless and never find out he left or had plans to leave.
Over the next weeks to follow, Kerim throws himself into making a real home for his new family and trying to break through Fatmagul’s defenses. He sees about finding a workshop for himself, and starts taking iron-working jobs around town. He tries, unsuccessfully, to hide the loving glances he throws Fatamagul’s way. He helps the family decorate the house for new year’s. He buys Fatmagul new boots when he sees what bad condition her shoes are in, and buys a beautiful purple winter coat for her too. He asks Ebe Nine to pretend to be the one who bought them as new year’s presents, then happily watches from afar as Fatmagul lights up as she receives them. When the vile Mukaddes finds the letter and divorce document under Fatma’s bed, Kerim orders her to put it back and not mention it to Fatma. But he can’t suppress a smile, knowing that Fatma read the letter (she had denied it) AND has kept it.
The family helps their landlord out at his restaurant for the new year’s celebrations, then join the celebrations themselves. Mukaddes gets drunk. Fatmagul and Kerim are forced to dance together. He can barely contain his emotions as he takes her hand in his, and encircles her in his arms. This is their very first physical contact. Fatmagul is obviously not indifferent to Kerim’s physical presence, but is fighting against her growing feelings by stoking the flames of her hatred. But she can’t help remembering his seemingly sincere denials that he raped her, and the declaration of love she overheard.
When they all return home, Fatma, Rahmi, and Ebe Nine try to get crazy drunk Mukaddes into bed. While looking for Mukaddes’ pjs, Fatma finds the divorce info page she had hidden. She confronts Mukaddes about it, and Mukaddes teases her about the love letter from Kerim that she’s keeping too, in that vile, suggestive way she has. Fatmagul has HAD it! She tears the letter to shreds, and the next morning she is nowhere to be found. We see her on a bus, with a small case, headed to another part of the city. Then we see her in flashback calling…Asu! Asu calls her name after she gets off the bus. Fatmagul rushes to hug and, and begs her to help her.
- End of episode and end of week.
terrific recap Juanita !!!
btw, I noticed once in the english captions that El Trenzas was coming out as cornrows, and I also see the word also means braiding, and did we see Rod getting shot saving his life.
Yei was enjoying Rod's agony way too much.
Rod's mansion reminds me of the narco shows, where sometimes the neighbors complain about the noise.

"Carlos decides he must try to stop the wedding. He and Luis get into his truck, and Carlos drives like a madman..." why did I think they were in Fresno? That's kind of a long drive to Beverly Hills, couple of hundred miles anyway.
Thank you Juanita for a gripping play-by-play. Finally we see Rodrigo as the true rat he is. NO redeeming qualities whatsoever. Shows his impotence with that cellphone toss.
And how the heck does Gracie think she can get outta Dodge with the bebe? She's already gotta use a coyote to cross with Ana who has no documents. That's a bit of a twist. They'll have an APB out on the fugitives in no time.
Thanks, deb. I wasn't at all sure that the guy Rod told to watch Yei was Trenzas, but I also had no idea what trenzas meant. Now that you've said it means braids, and that the English subtitles translated it as cornrows, I know I guessed correctly.
I think Rod got wounded trying to help someone, but I don't think I noticed who it was.
Thanks, LXV. I'm embarrassed at how little I know about California geography. It didn't occur to me that it would be such a long drive to go from Fresno (you're right, that's where they were) to Beverly Hills. Although given how crazed and determined Carlos was, I imagine he drove VERY fast. Indeed, Luis was worried that he'd be pulled over and then have problems with la migra.
And I too wondered how Greicy and her mother expected to pull off getting across the border with the baby, especially since, as you say, there would very quickly be an APB out. I guess we'll find out soon. (I'm assuming they'll succeed in snatching the baby, though even that isn't certain.)
Vivi...MUCHOS GRACIAS for your recap. As I mentioned, my Spanish skills are below intermediate so your recap helped me realized how many of the side stories I wasn't understanding completely. I too think Mustafa is a dunce. Even if you believe the fabricated story about Fatma...how could you work for the very people who are at the center of "vile gossip" involving your true love. I think I posted before (on the wrong date so it was removed)...that I can't see how Fatma connects with Kerim knowing that he watched even if he didn't participate. Now...I see how it could happen. I don't blame Fatma for making a run for it. I couldn't breath with that many people in my business in the best of times...let alone when still trying to grieve and recover from what just happened to her. Mukkaddes is such a vulgar and cruel person. Still enjoying all the beautiful scenery in this novella.
Nett
Nett- I'm so glad it was helpful. I agree, they are doing a good job of showing how Fatma could slowly start to fall for Kerim, despite the huge obstacle between them.
Bajo: Of course Carlos would come just in time to see the "real" kiss. Erick is a creep remember I told all of you. Rodrigo has jumped the shark big time. About Adela and death threat. Ok, no, you can not get legal status just because you are being threatened while living in the US illegally but if you are an actual victim of a violent crime, and help the police catch the bad guys you can get the U vise like Juana.
What does Adela mean Erick can make her do anything once they are married? How she figures he can? Are they going to show us Adela taking whatever crap Erick will dish out to her? I would be so disappointed but if Erick abuses her she can get papers as an abused wife without his help as an abused spouse. Oy.
Romy
Juanita, Until I lived there, I had no clue what California was all about. But I married a 4th generation native (rare in those days) and we moved out there for a while. It is an absolutely beautiful state, and very long, but the distance driving is generally pretty smooth (unlike the east coast).
Just went back & re-read your description of the gang warfare scene & Rodrigo's take down. You caught a lot of the subtle transactions I missed. Thank you again for getting all the details. I had trouble watching it and keeping up.
FATMAGUL
Vivi I completely agree with Romy's remarks. Your recaps are indeed out of this world; I'm reading every word, even though I'm not watching this time around. Some day, I'll make the time. Meanwhile, it's great fun that we've got a following over here for me to eavesdrop in on.
Wow, Juanita, you are a STAR at recap writing! I got a kick out of "just because you're paranoid..." I also think Lourdes is going to snatch the baby. If they plan to cross with a coyote, I can easily see them succeeding. If they're going that route, then they would not be going through the guards and officials at the legal border crossings. Remember the tunnels through which Rodrigo came when he re-entered after being deported. I suspect those exist. The do exist for moving drugs into the country, and why not for moving people.
But I don't think they'll succeed in getting to México. Somehow the truth will out, and Carlos will be able to either be with or perhaps raise his granddaughter. Gracie may have tarnished herself too much to be raising that kid with Carlos happy having her around. I'm leaning more toward Carlos and Adela raising Anita.
I'm a Californian, so I was also laughing at Carlos driving from Fresno to LA in the time that they portrayed. Well, maybe if he rented a helicopter.
I agree, Juanita, that they're darkening Rodrigo to prepare us for his death. But isn't the actor doing a tremendous job? His desperation upon hearing from Gacho that Adela was getting married was so well acted. They even showed him with sweat on his brow from suffering from the gunshot wound and still trying to get out of there to stop the wedding.
Well, they surprised me! I thought something would prevent the wedding. And in classic telenovela fashion Carlos arrives too late to stop the wedding but just in time to see the kiss. By the way, I don't think this is the last time Erick plans to use that gambit of Adela having to kiss him or demonstrate public affection to convince immigration theirs is a true marriage.
Thanks, Variopinta, for this info. I assume that MapQuest bases its estimates on the speed limit. Judging from what we saw of Carlos' driving, l wouldn't be surprised if he made it in well under 3 hrs. :-)
Thanks, LXV, for your kind words.
Actually, I should know California geography better than I do, since I have a son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughters there, and also a brother-in-law, a niece, and friends. But that just means I know where Los Angeles and San Francisco are, and how long it takes to get from one to the other. Almost everything else is just a blur. :-)
Novelera, thanks VERY much for your encouraging words! I don't think I deserve them, but that just means I'm all the more delighted to have them, especially coming from you, whose recaps I love.
I agree that the actor playing Rodrigo has been doing a superb job. I also like that the writers have made him a complex character, something he portrays very convincingly. And like you, I've been assuming that Carlos and Adela will wind up raising Greicy and Rodrigo's baby.
