Yo No Creo En Los Hombres, Capitulo #110 Thursday 12/17/15: A Child Is Born (...in a world of monsters)

Rewind: Doris shares her fears and annoyances about the other women in Orlando’s life with Nanis. In the prison, the warden sends her flunkies off of get a spare key before the Abuela kills MD rather than let her give birth to her baby. The Bitter, Crazy Grief twins storm past an overwhelmed maid to get into the Bustamante house. Max and Leo ask them to leave because their sick mother doesn’t need more crap. “I know she’s kicking the bucket, but so are we – dead in life, two mothers without children!” (We’re barely two minutes in and the rage that wells up in me at this demonstration of Josefa’s selfishness almost chokes me.) Claudio asks Hon how they can help her and she responds that she just wants justice for Julian, which won’t happen if he keeps using his influence to push MD’s hearing back. Cara de horrified “WTH?!” from Max.The Abuela proves to be the absolute worst labor coach in history. It’s not her fault; she’s just confused the “hee hee hoo hoo” chant with “it’s better that your baby die…it’ll me a monster like its father…it’s better that it die now, before it sees and feels…” She keeps up this stream of chatter while poking at MD, thinking that she’s taken the miscarriage pill. When MD reveals that she hasn’t, the Abuela starts smacking and pulling at her, enraged.

Play: Now that the whole family’s been stunned by the news of Claudio’s further, deeper levels of shittiness, Leo ushers Hon and Josefa out of the house. Max is about to explode, but Alma’s rage and disillusion erupts before he can. “Why?! Why, Claudio?! How could you?! When I asked you to help your son! I asked you to move the hearing through as soon as possible! And you swore to me that you would! You knew – you knew – that I wanted to see them together and married before dying! You knew!” It turns out that this is the straw that breaks the camel’s back for Alma when it comes to Claudio. Even after everything he’s done, she’s been wearing her wedding rings, but now she rips them off and flings them at his worthless, Play-Doh face. It’s all too much for her and she passes out. Leo and Max rightly freak out. Max calls an ambulance as Leo tries to get Alma to come to and Claudio looks on like the dumb, useless idiot he is.
Espy, Clara and Corina talk about prison stuff. Turns out that the household Corina was visiting in the last episode was Nayeli’s - emphasis on the was. Her husband remarried (legally?) the woman she saw yesterday and they have a child. Nayeli’s kids are just “around” somewhere. At some point, they were sent off to their grandmother’s. Corina’s sure that Nayeli’s ex uses the money that she sends for her children to help support his new wife and child. She’s going to tell Nayeli as soon as she sees her, but just then Clara is possessed by the spirit of MD who thinks that this will only worry Nayeli, so maybe they should just say nothing. (NOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Clara!!!!! They got to you too! Don’t drink the Kool-Aid, amiga!) Even Espy can’t believe it. Clara says she’s just seeing the value in the insane mindset that has only hurt everyone since this nightmare began: who’s it going to help if they tell Nayeli? It won’t make her leech husband a better man. In her case (with Leo), the problem wasn’t that she knew what was up with Claudio and Isela, but that she said she knew everything when she should have stayed quiet and listened. Now at the hospital, Claudio tries to justify his shittiness: he did it because he was sure Ursula would continue to extort him and he wouldn’t allow it! He’d rather everything explode and his career go down the drains. This…makes little to no sense, but before the boys can say much, Alma’s doctor comes out to update them.  She’s stable and they’re trying to contact her oncologist. Max is once again interrupted from decapitating Claudio with his bare hands when Nayeli calls to tell him that MD is in labor and the prison monsters don’t want to take her to the hospital. At Orlando’s auto shop opening, Clara offers sandwiches to the model girls hired for the event. She pumps them for info on the job because she’s decided to see if quitting school and quietly letting monsters roam the land in men’s clothing while she gets a job dancing and displaying various products will bring her happiness.Warden calls Queen Monster #1 to tell her a prisoner (Nayeli) called Max and he’s on his way. Ursula relays this to her Monster Baby.In the prison, MD looks like she’s asleep on the floor. Or at least she would if she wasn’t covered in blood and the Abuela and her henchmen weren’t calmly watching her. Nayeli comes back and Abuela’s team books it out of there. Nayeli frantically asks what happened, what did they do to MD, but no one knows anything (in prison the “Stay Quiet” Kool-Aid is highly concentrated). Warden’s henchwoman pulls Nayeli up, blaming her for whatever happened while Nayeli screams at the other prisoners, whom she told/asked to protect MD, because they sucked at that job.Ivana apologizes for always looking at Isela like a child-hungry crazy lady. In what’s actually a very sad scene, she explains her torment. She asks if Isela wanted the baby. IsIela admits the baby wasn’t planned (just vengeance), but now he or she is her reason for living. Ivana explains that she always wanted children. She planned for a family from the time she was a child. But because life is cruel and this TN loves suffering, sometimes the women that want things the most can’t have them. At least not the regular way. That’s why she and Gerry are forming their untraditional family. On that subject, Isela has arranged for the judge to come tomorrow to marry them. Ivana says to organize everything in the conference room. The doctor tells Leo and Claudio that there’s no medicine for Alma’s pain right now. The best thing for her is to be with people she loves; they should apapacharla (=spoil, pamper her). He leaves and the Bustamantes step toward the door, but Leo blocks his dad. “Didn’t you hear the doctor?” he asks. Claudio turns away.In prison, Henchguard delivers Nayeli to the Warden, who threatens that if anything happens to MD or her kid, Nayeli will have a homicide charge added to her record. In the hospital, Alma wants to go home; they can’t do anything for her there and she hates being the hospital. Leo promises that she’ll go home as soon as possible. He tells her MD’s in labor. Alma’s worried because she hasn’t quite gone full term, but Leo thinks the baby just can’t wait to get here. They’re generally optimistic. At the less well-funded hospital, Max asks a nurse for MD. Before he can describe his relationship to her, Pond Scum and Mama Witch show up. They want to make sure a paternity test is done. I want to make sure that I understand this correctly: Dan, the accused RAPIST has not been to trial for the RAPE and is instead at the hospital, waiting to steal his VICTIM’S child? And everyone’s okay with this?MD’s in the hospital, surrounded by a very supportive operating team. These strangers are probably the most unconditionally supportive people MD’s been around, as a group, since this TN started.Max and Dan are having words when MD’s girls show up. Clara is immediately in Dan’s face, with Doris and Corina backing her up, and Espy knows they’re there to take the baby. Max corrals the ladies so that they don’t kill the Santibanez and set their remains on fire.Back in the operating room, MD gives a final push…she’s done it! Despite beatings and near poisonings and intense grief and hate, she’s given birth!...But wait...one of the nurse’s turns to MD and exclaims “She/he’s not breathing!”Ivana’s staff is giving her a preview mini-show of a collection. They’re all holding blank signs and Ivana doesn’t know why. They ignore her half-formed questions and finally stand in a line and flip the signs around. They spell out “Thank you for agreeing to be my wife.” The models pull back curtains to reveal Gerry. He comes forward, gets on one knee and presents Ivana with a ring. After he slides it on her finger, he says he believes this is where they kiss. The models agree enthusiastically, so they do. Afterwards, Gerry pauses and kisses Ivana again…hungrily? As the models cheer, they kiss some more (this time awkwardly). In the OR, MD panics as only she can, but the baby soon cries. Happiness abounds as MD holds her child.Fermin, back from Orlando’s party, tells Honoria that MD’s having her baby. She’s happy because only now will MD understand how a mother doesn’t want anything bad to happen to her child. She assures Fermin that the baby won’t grow up in a prison because Dan will take him/her away from MD.  “Ah! So the disgrace that killed our son will keep MD’s baby?!” Hon looks momentarily startled by this take on her totally justified, not at all bitter and dangerous, grief-fueled vengeance plan. As Fermin leaves, she flashes back to Josefa proposing said vengeance and her decision to get “justice” for Julian. In prison, Nayeli has been confined to MD’s solitary cell. She finds the note MD read before going into labor.Gerry and Ivana dine by candlelight. He apologizes for the kiss, but while he knows that they’re marriage won’t be usual, he doesn’t want it to just be a transaction. He wants to celebrate that she won’t be just his friend; she’s his alma gemela(=twin soul; soulmate), the future mother of his child, whom he chose and who chose him. The look on Ivana’s face has me worried for a second, but then she smiles and agrees. They toast to themselves.Orlando gives out coffee at the hospital, Corina on his arm. No one seems to want any; they’re too keyed up. Chelo takes one, but Doris’s eyes are so fixed on Corina’s arm threaded through Orlando’s that I don’t think she even heard him offer. Max gets off the phone with Alma, who’s excited to meet the baby. The doctor comes out to give them the what’s what: the baby girl – “It’s a girl?” Monster Baby asks – was born a little underweight and with breathing problems, due to her mother’s poor diet, lack of medical attention and extreme stress. She’ll have to stay in the hospital for a few days. No one can see either MD or the baby for health and, you know, prison reasons. Thankfully, as her lawyer, Max might be able to get in. He follows the doc. “But-“ Dan begins. “Shut up!” Hellashelle snaps.Dan goes to the bathroom for a quiet moment alone. “It’s a girl,” he whispers, reverently to the mirror. “It’s a girl.” Of course, Ursula follows, so he only has a moment to himself before she’s banging on the door. He opens it. She was worried he would freak because Max can see MD and he can’t. He wishes MD wanted to see him. It’s better this way Ursula says. They’re just here to get the child. Though he should have given her a grandson; women are always a problem. Thankfully, they’re not keeping her and Ivana can turn her into a great business mogul. Dan listens in horror and disgust. He closes the door in her face without saying a word. No matter, delusional Monster Mama gets on her phone.Ivana and Gerry slow dance together. Ivana wants to go to Isela’s ultrasound the next day (before or after her wedding?). Gerry argues that she’ll be able to see all of the ultrasounds for their baby, but Ivana insists that the surrogate will be far away. Isela’s right there and is the closest she can get to the experience since she’ll never see her belly swell with child or feel a baby kick within her. They’re going back and forth about it when Ursula calls to congratulate Ivana on being the mother to a newborn baby girl! She’s a little underweight, but a few days in the incubator and she’ll be right as rain. Ivana hangs up on her. Gerry knows what’s up right away. They lament the circumstances of MD’s pregnancy and about if/how it affected the baby on more than a physical level. Dan bursts out of the bathroom. He wants to leave the hospital so he doesn’t have to deal with the accusing eyes of MD’s vecindad friends. Ursula insists that he stay. They have to make sure that Max can’t get a good foothold on this situation, that the baby’s with Dan and Ivana from the beginning.Ivana wonders if they’ll let the baby go with MD to the prison. Gerry figures that yes, at least, while she’s breastfeeding. He reminds Ivana that she’s going to help get MD out so she can raise her baby as she should with Max. Ivana says nothing…but she’s getting crazy eyes again.Max finally gets to see MD! They kiss and MD immediately starts asking about the baby. The doctors took her away and MD thinks she should be with her mother, so she can feed her and help her get better and Max has to help her and all of this begging Max for help is making me have a Tofie moment. She doesn’t want to go back to prison, but doesn’t tell Max about the most pressing reasons it’s dangerous (The Abuela and the Warden). Instead, she tells him about Claudio’s hand in delaying her trial.Speaking of, Claudio visits Alma in the hospital, basically sneaking in while Leo’s on a bathroom break or something. He apologizes, but Alma’s not accepting this. She didn’t think he could do worse to her than what he’s already done, but his affair with Isela is nothing compared to this. This time it’s not just her and the boys who are suffering. Now an innocent woman and her child are caught up in his worthless, shitty mess. She’s glad she’s divorcing him, glad she’ll die having been able to make the changes she has in her last few months, as he should have done and should be doing now. She orders him out of her room. “Let’s see if you can find a way to fix the damage you’ve caused to your son and the woman he loves.”Max admits he just found out about Claudio’s betrayal. He’s blaming Ursula, but there’s no justification for it. MD agrees, but the important thing they need to focus on is the fact that they want to take her baby from her.

Gracias, Hellashelle. This was a difficult episode.

Monster Mama has really gone over the top this time. She is still playing Ivana and I think I know what her plans would be from there: Kill Ivana so that the baby inherits the remainder of her fortune (which wouldn't be easy) and force Baby Monster to marry another vulnerable woman with money, etc. But Danny-Boy is a weaker link than before.

Can't wait to see what revenge Arango is planning.

Makes me wonder whether the talk about the possibility of the baby being Max's is the set up for that reveal, but I've stopped trying to predict this one. I personally would love for that to be the case because MD never caught much of a break in this tale and neither Danny-Boy or his Mama Bear should have any legal excuse to get anywhere near her or the baby. Not to mention that after this experience of pregnancy and birth most women would be scared as hell to go through it again.

More later.

Thank you Hellashelle. Just the right amount of levity so I could get this down again.

"Even after everything he’s done, she’s been wearing her wedding rings, but now she rips them off and flings them at his worthless, Play-Doh face"

"(NOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Clara!!!!! They got to you too! Don’t drink the Kool-Aid, amiga!)"

"Dan, the accused RAPIST has not been to trial for the RAPE and is instead at the hospital, waiting to steal his VICTIM’S child? And everyone’s okay with this?"

Not sure about the rest of you guys but rage just flat takes it out of me. I'm exhausted. At least I was spared Dan being the first to visit MD bedside.

My hope Max is the girls father is on wobbly legs. My selective memory had extended the time between MD sleeping with Max and the rape, allowing the birth near term and Max's child, it was premature.

Luz María Jerez knocked it outta the park

Oh god, I saw crazy Ivana still roaming the halls.

Espy should be satisfied and I saw her trademark smirk, Clara was a tough one but now broken. Go ahead Espy do a little jackboot jig.

I want to smack Max. Ursula is not the reason Claudio is a dick

Wait just a minute, I thought Orlando was dating Doris and now I see him with arm candy?

Wow MD, really. Ursula and Dan want to take away your child? Max already knows, they're standing right outside in the hall. Concerning Max you are always a day late and a dollar short.

Thanks Hellashelle! This was a fantastic telling of another teeth clenching episode.

Welcome to the world, baby girl! It's going to be a bumpy start for you.

That guard in the room was listening closely and inching towards the bed, so I don't think MD felt safe enough to tell him about the warden and Abuela's abuses. I was just glad she confirmed the info about Clod to Max, and warned him about the baby stealing plot (that she now believes Clod is a part of).

Poor Clara looks so broken. I don't like the idea of this dancing, but I certainly don't believe Espy would allow her to drop out of school. MD and Espy have had this talk with her before, when she wanted to drop out to help with expenses.

Yeah, the dancing thing, the way it is being presented, seems a set up for trouble. Clara is a casualty. All the hiding and avoiding has been for nothing because the truth has a bad habit of coming out. Espy is an ostrich with her head in the sand.

Clara will probably tell Espy she's going to school; meanwhile she'll be twerking for tips.

Will Nayeli somehow get that note that Abuela wrote to Max?

Clara has probably heard a steady stream of "You should've kept quiet" from Esperanza every time Clara cried about Leo. And I too saw that smirk on Esperanza's face when Clara told Corina not to tell Nayeli.

Why is Orlando walking arm & arm with Corina or anyone else? The problem isn't Isela or Corina, the problem is Orlando. He is running off to Isela's aid & walking arm in arm with Doris b/c they are not expecting a sexual relationship. Sometimes I think that's why Julian was so fixated on Maria Dolores. He loved her but knew he'd never have a sexual relationship with her, something that he might have to deal with if he decided to get with Jenny or some other woman.

What Claudio told Alma, Max & Leo was that what a rapist/murderer wants and how the public sees him is more important than Alma's dying wish, Max's happiness & the health of Maria Dolores & her baby. He might as well call up his friends right in front of Alma/Max/Leo and urge them to snatch away permanent custody of Maria Dolores' baby and give it to Dan, because that will be the next step ... Ursula will call Clod & press him to legally snatch the baby.

Might as well do it, Clod. You've lost Alma, Max & Leo anyway.

Hellashell, thank you for this recap, you never disappoint!

Someone help me out, how can someone take a baby away from its mother without her giving up her parental rights? And how can they just hand over the baby to Ivana? And why oh why is no one saying anything about the abusive situation at the jail? I had such a hard time watching how they were treating poor MD!

My hope is that the baby stays in the hospital until she's a bit stronger and that Max then kidnaps her until the DNA tests show that he is the father.

Hey Eli, don't know why but you popped in my head this morning and wondered how you were.

Dan has brought suit to take the child away and expects to have her declared unfit since she is in prison for murder. That assumes Dan is the father and MD is indeed found guilty of murdering Julian. It also assumes Dan is successful in defending himself against MD's rape accusations, however, there are cases in which a rapist has been granted visitation rights in the US. There is a recent federal statute that attempts to close that loophole. Otherwise, Ursula and Dan will just snatch the child or claim it has died. Ivana is showing crazy eyes again over a child and what Ursula is banking on.

If someone knew of MD's abuse on the outside they may but so far MD out of fear has not told Max.

Hi Tofie!

I'm dealing with so much at work/home that I had to stop recapping, I hope to start again sometime next year, once I get a new laptop and internet at home, trying to recap with no internet at home is impossible!

Thank you for that information, I've only caught a few episodes of this here and there so I was unsure about how Dan and Ursula planned to get the bebe away from MD. I think Dan really might have some feelings towards the baby so hopefully he wont hurt her and I hope Ivana keeps her grubby hands off of her, and that Gerry dumps her- he could do so much better!

The look Doris gave Orlando and Corina ("are you freakin' kidding me with this?") was priceless. I didn't think there was anything up with the two of them. Orlando is just clueless that this might be an issue. And Corina doesn't seem the type to ruin this good thing she might have going with new barrio friends.

Do they not have attorney-client privilege in Mexico? Seems like that guard eavesdropping should be violating some regulations or another. If Nayeli can hang on to the note long enough, she should be able to get it to Max the Lawyer.

Hellashelle--Thank you for this magnificent stream of consciousness from you. One sentence flowed right to the next. I have nothing significant to add to this perfect little jewel.

I'm still holding out hope this baby is Max's. Nevermind Dan's internal swooning over having a baby girl. Mama rules and that bebe, if she can get her hands on it, is not going to be reared in the Santibanez household.

The writers may still be playing with stating that the baby was underweight and having breathing problems (still that bebe's head was pretty big). I didn't catch how much she weighed, BUT, none of the doctors nor the staff ever used the word premature. Given that MD never had any prenatal care at all and they really don't know how far along she was, they still didn't say.

If MD thinks the baby dated from the rape, then it would be premature. If Max's, there's doubt. It could be a small, first-time bebe. Did she have relations with Max AND was raped by Dan during the same fertility period, or was there a month or two between incidents. Only a DNA test will show.

There have been other shows with bebe kidnappings, one right out of the hospital nursery fairly recently. I hope Ursula didn't watch those shows. If it's Max getting the baby out, I'm fine with that--but he and Alma will still have to figure out how to hide the baby and nurture her while MD is sent back to prison. Ay de mi. Have to keep watching to see how it all gets sorted out.

The first thing I thought when I saw Clara questioning the two dancing girls is that Clara just looked so plain beside them. She's lovely, but has not had much practice in the voluptuous come-hither school of curly hair, curvaceous bodies and tons of make-up. I don't expect this foray into this world to last very long.

Ivana's conversation with Isela gave me a smidgin of hope that she was ready for having this unconventional family with Gerry. The engagement party was a dose of reality. He was talking sense, trying to steer her away from the Isela hook-up, trying to get her back on track for their family. How unfortunate it was to get that phone call just then. All that reality just came unraveled.

The only way I can give Clod any points this late in the game is for him to intervene on the baby's behalf--and Maria Dolores'.

And, we're left with Ivana wanting to or not wanting to give her statement as eyewitness to Julian's shooting. OK, Ivana, we're waiting for you to make up your mind.

Helleshelle, thanks for a great recap.

Has the name of Julian's disease ever been mentioned? I never came across it.

Thanks.

Ann-NYC

Anita- I chuckled when the dancing girls looked at Clara and the only dancer/promotion girl quality they could pick out is that she's tall. She is a lovely, natural looking, non-curvy girl. Not usually what that kind of job, or tns, look for.

I believe Julian had muscular dystrophy.

Thanks Urban. I was so curious.
