Antes muerta que Lichita. #79 1/14/16 "The Aftermath"

Alternative Title: The Many Faces on Don Augusto the Grand Impostor

For those who missed the recent turn of events Alicia narrates the saga and reminds the audience of a few things:
- Sandra's has a childish tantrum leading her to inform Bea of Alicia's and Augusto's alleged affair
- Don Augusto making creepy and inappropriate advances towards a very naive Alicia
- Roberto giving his 100% with his puppy dog face upon hearing above news
- Finally, the @*#&! show of a meeting where affairs, secret babies and true parentages were revealed.

I am working on the tears to play up the anguish factor
The New

Augusto, in damage control mode, pressures Bea not to believe the lies of a scorned woman. Bea does not want to hear any words coming from his two-timing mouth. She asks Valeria for the truth but does not wait for an answer. Upon walking out of this disastrous meeting she collapses suddenly sending everyone into a frenzy.

Sandra wonders why Alicia and Elias looks as if they just attended a funeral. They came and got what they wanted. Naive Alicia did not foresee things going as they did and she feels guilty. Sandra gives Alicia a little piece of advice. The world we work in caters to men. Don Augusto will not suffer too much for his actions but his "lovers" will. In their professional lives, the men receive the credit while the woman gets ignored. However, this is no longer her problem but theirs.

The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree.

Bea gets whisked away to the hospital while Fatima is left to fend herself from the callous shrews in Iconika who care less about Bea's health and more about the Godzilla-Augusto affair. Fatima does not cave under the pressure and dismisses their pleas. Back in the meeting room, only Luci and Val remain. Val begins the daunting tell of her romance with Augusto. It started prior to her marriage with Rafael. She believed herself to be so in love that she doubted whether she should marry Rafael.
Val started to imagine herself breaking it off with Rafael and living her happily ever after with Augusto. She soon found out that he was just using her to hurt Rafael. She broke things off with Augusto, married Rafael and they left for Argentina. Roberto checks in on Luci who asks to be taken to the hospital with Bea. Luci wants nothing to do with Val and forbids her from going to the hospital as well.

Outside Sandra's apartment Alicia feels like everything that happened was her fault. Elias tells her not to blame herself. They talk about his feelings towards Sandra. He mentions that love in real life is nothing like telenovelas where boy meets girl....fall in love...get married...and live happily ever after. (He clearly has not a watched a novela from start to end because he forgot to mention the angst, villians, lies and stupidity that keeps the lovebirds apart for more than half of its run before the obligatory wedding and happily ever after occurs). Returning to the point...he sometimes wonders whether he went crazy not due to his work, but for the immense love he had for Sandra but could not give it to her.

Fatima finds Sandra wallowing away on her couch. Fatima felt like she had to convey the truth...she was okay with displaying discretion but could not go on harboring a lie that affected an innocent person.  She knows Sandra will not understand but now that everything is out, Sandra could move on with her life..in peace. Sandra does not see it this way and only feels betrayed.  While, Fatima understands their friendship is no more she requests Sandra to call on her if she wants someone to confide in. Sandra is not ready to lose the chip on her shoulder and only has bitter words for Fatima.

The doctor informs the family that the recent events caused her pressure to go wonky and put her in this state. He advises that Bea see a psychiatrist when she recovers to make sure she remains stable. Roberto consoles Luciana in the waiting room. She cannot help but think that Valeria is more to blame the Augusto (Seems that Sandra was not far from the truth). Roberto tries to convey that sometimes parents make mistakes (listen to the expert Luciana) and she should not be so harsh towards her mom. Alicia seems to have lost her brain again because she believes it wise to go to the hospital to check on Bea's status (please just pick up the phone next time). Luci of course acts explosively on her entrance. She blames Alicia for all the bad things that have happened to her. Alicia finds herself leaving with her main agenda unaccomplished. Later, Luciana spills the details about the mysterious trip and injury Augusto had months ago. Roberto finally learns where Augusto really was and also that he was shot.

Back at the office Alicia finds Fatima packing her things. Fatima displays enough wisdom to know that Augusto nor Bea will want her working at the agency any longer. She warns Alicia not to make things worse and just let things be. Later, when the dust settles she will figure out severance pay and next steps.

Minus Alicia, the Guiterrez family continues unaffected by the madness of Iconika. Magos watches her novela while Ximena does her homework. Ximena asks what she talked about with her buddies earlier since they were being so secretive. Magos fumbles to answer the question but Ximena sees right through her crap. She hopes that Magos is not getting herself into another scheme that will affect them.

Playing the part of a dedicated employee and family member, Roberto sleeps at the hospital to watch over Bea while Augusto finds a swanky hotel nearby. Augusto reminds Roberto that none of this should be mentioned to API folks. The next morning Augusto is well rested and takes the credit for staying at the hospital all night when Alex shows up.

Alicia, the superwoman, decides to help her parents out today and take Ximena to school. Elsa gets suspicious and wonders how she can do all this when she has work? When is she returning to Los Angeles? Once Nacho leaves Elsa gets to the heart of the matter. She knows something is going on with Alicia but her daughter finds an excuse to leave the conversation (if only Elsa is as perceptive with Magos as she is with Alicia).

I'm the innocent victim here. This face tells no lies.

Augusto seeks out Luciana to have a heart to heart. He wants her to hear his side of the story. He begins to spins a preposterous tale painting himself as the victim. Valeria was the one who pursued and seduced him. He was in love and she only ended up hurting him in the end. He only just found out about her and if he found out sooner he would have been a model father. Unfortunately, her mother did not allow that to happen. When he did find out, he had to keep it secret so that Rafael's health would not be affected. Luciana eats up his lies without a second thought. Don Augusto subtly tells Luciana that Valeria will have to leave this house. He adds that she is so much like him...unlike those other two.
Gosh, someone needs to give me an award. It's almost too easy!

While working at the Cafe, Alicia runs into nameless guy she hit with her phone (Soto). They sit down for coffee as she talks his ears off. Topic switches to People's Cafe which seemed to have moved. Alicia believes that the owner is probably some old guy who knows nothing about coffee nor willing to get his hands dirty for his company. She wants to know who he is and why he is here. To her embarrassment he declares himself as Santiago (did not catch last name), owner of People's Cafe!

Great recap, thanks, CeCe! Loved the screen caps.

Very good episode derailing the fallout.

Yes, Sandra was right about something: the double standard. Augusto made my skin crawl telling Luciana that Valeria had seduced HIM. Looks like Valeria will be exiled from the mansion. It was so hateful when Luciana called her (own mother!!!!) a slut.

I liked Fátima getting out while she is still ahead. She is one of the few characters who has her head on straight.

Looks like Sandra will be stuck in her self pity rut for a while.

The best was Dafne calling Luciana a bastard.

The second best was Ximena calling out Magos on her crappola.

The third best was Alicia predictably sticking her foot in it with Santiago of The Peoples' Café (why does that sound like a coffee shop that should be in communist China? Too funny!)

"Detailing" the fallout.

Love it CeCe thank you!

"Roberto tries to convey that sometimes parents make mistakes (listen to the expert Luciana)"

I got a one track mind-Santiago Hope Alicia can clear her head of Roberto and move on. I already see the punk Roberto will beg forgiveness, that he never believed she and Augusto had a thing or that somehow it was Alicia's fault he was fooled.

Why put Roberto in charge when Augusto out of office? Why not Alicia?

Ok, I have a little sympathy that Valeria was played but that's where it ends. She was extremely selfish. It wasn't a one night stand but an ongoing affair and she was in love, hurt it wasn't reciprocated, pregnant, so she tricked the same man the revenge was intended for. She was used so she uses Rafael, how is that fair to Rafael?

Thank You CeCe. Loved your recap. Hated what these people are doing to each other. Aug-evil and Sand-evil deserve each other.

My heart was breaking when Fatima was clearing out her desk. That is the way real life is many times, the good ones pay dearly for doing the right thing.

I felt awful for Valerie too. I know she made a mistake long, long ago, but for how long to you have to pay? I mean, how old is Luci? She looks 40 or so, so this happened a loooong time ago. (Just being mean) Given what we see of Aug-evil, she was probably almost helpless against a persistent Aug-evil. Luci is truly evil, maybe Val should write her off and move on, it happens.

I presume no one feels any sympathy for Sandra. In the grand scheme of things, she got off easy. In ten years she could possible have gotten a clue that her 'Man" might be dishonest. It should be self-evident dating a married man that he is, but it happens all the time. Most people come to their senses before long.

On the bright side, Alicia will not have to work with an antagonistic, counterproductive, roadblock-building, backstabbing, dishonest Sandra. A Sandra, who by all indications, like most of the other Iconika employees, does absolutely NOTHING except backstab and gossip.

Oops, sounds like the coffee is ready, bye.

CeCe, this was dynamic - what a fantastic recap. Great fun too. Loved the screenshots.

"He clearly has not a watched a novela from start to end because he forgot to mention the angst, villians, lies and stupidity that keeps the lovebirds apart for more than half of its run before the obligatory wedding and happily ever after occurs" and "Minus Alicia, the Guiterrez family continues unaffected by the madness of Iconika" were among my favorites.

After being revealed as a murderer, I didn't think Augusto could do anything to plummet to a lower depth of humanity, but he did it last night. It was maddening that in one slimy, suave move he managed to absolve himself of any guilt in Luciana's eyes and equally disturbingly, turn her against her mother who has no one. Chilling.

I'm not going to excuse what Valeria did because of course she was wrong, but I felt very badly for her. And yes, tofie "she tricked the same man the revenge was intended for". The way Augusto hated Rafael is beyond comprehension. And, were we only shown the gentle, kind caring side of Rafael? I'm still not understanding why the hatred was so bitter.

Jarifa, thanks for noting Dafne called Luci a bastard (which I missed, inexplicably). I felt nothing for Luci, nothing at all. Nor Sandra... Hmmm, I hope some of Augusto's callousness isn't rubbing off on me :)

I also liked that Fatima left with dignity and grace.

Roberto was annoying last night. He clearly had no empathy for his wife (not that I blame him) and his ridiculous attempts to look sympathetic failed miserably.

On the bright side, we had Gumaro and Gabe Soto...not bad!

CeCe, thanks again!

Happy Friday all.

Kirbo: "My heart was breaking when Fatima was clearing out her desk. That is the way real life is many times, the good ones pay dearly for doing the right thing".

Very well said. And sadly, very true.

Cece- I loved this whole recap and the screen shots. Ugh! I hate that Augusto is so far getting a free pass. He dismisses his kids before they can really rip into them, and Bea is too ill and distraught to do so. I really worry that he will convince her to let him back into the mansion, and that she will fall in line with Luci and blame the other women.

Hated that Alicia thinks this is all her fault. She has nothing to feel guilty for! She had every right to clear her name. It's all Sandra's fault for defaming her in the first place, and then for going beyond just admitting the truth, to causing as much maximum damage to Bea as she could. She herself admitted that Augusto would walk away unharmed, so why do something so cruel that would hurt his wife. She accuses Bea of going after the women instead of Augusto, but she did the same these last few episodes by trying to hurt Alicia and Bea. Mission accomplished, Sandra.

Loved Alicia's interaction with Santiago. He looks smitten. Time for Alicia to have some fun. Why not a romance with a rich, handsome, nice guy? And he did seem nice. Hope they don't make him evil, even if Alicia is destined for Rob by the writers.

If they make Santiago bad so Roberto looks good I will throw a fit. It will happen so I am practicing my fit throwing. Of course Santiago is smitten and why he sought Alicia in LA. Without knowing much about Santiago already I see a big difference. Had Roberto been the owner of People's Cafe and a mom & pop cafe hurt his business he would sneak over, release 10,000 cockroaches and call the health department.

Tofie: So Funny, and So True. Robby is the perfect addition to the Aug-evil and Drano team. All three rotten.
I wonder if ebay has cockroaches?

Wonderful recap!

Didn't anyone else get the feeling that when the Doctor told them that Bea would need to see a psychiatrist, Augie intends to use that against Bea? I'm worried he is going to try and get her locked up in a mental institute in order to keep her from getting rid of the company.

I understand why Luci is angry and hurt by her mother but how can she be so naive as to believe Augie when it just came out that he was cheating on his wife for 10 years? Obviously he is the one that cheats and has a record of using women. She should have believed her mother over him.

I thought Rob was doing his best to support Luci. I mean, in reality he doesn't like her, knows all of the awful things she has done, so I can see how it can be hard to be sympathetic. She is getting what she deserves.

Nope, not feeling anything for Sandra.

So has Alicia undergone a personality transplant or what? Why does she act so crazy around Gabe Soto? First at the Iconika USA she acted dopey and now here? She doesn't even know the guy and she just starts talking and venting non-stop. So unlike the girl that has a problem speaking up or trying to choose her words wisely. She reminded me of Chuchette who goes on and on.

Vivi: you were right! He is People's Cafe.

Don Augusto continues to amaze me with each episode (like Magos continues to disappoint but I wont go there). The stuff he gets away with leaves me flabbergasted. I thought he would the fallout would have him squirming at but he is so darn confident and believes he is above reproach

I like Santiago already...he has not said much and he already seems like a better candidate than Roberto.

Kirbo: Could not have described those shallow employees any better. Fatima will be missed.

I noticed Alicia ran her mouth non stop and hoped it was because she was nervous (with Roberto she would drop things or run into things) a hot Gabe sat across from her. Here's to hoping.

I don't feel sorry for Sandra but with Fatima. It's a shame Sandra squandered a decade of her life hanging on false promises from a married man, now has nothing. Pick herself up, she is young enough, and has time to do something with her life.

Augusto is horrible and equally horrible to everyone (except Rafael whom he killed) and he is very good at deceit with plenty of victims. However, having been deceived does not give you a pass to deceive others like Sandra and Valeria did. I don't think if Alicia fell for Augusto, was pregnant, she would marry Roberto and pass the child off as his and be a confidant of Beatriz. Nor would she attack the unsuspecting after being dumped. Alicia was taken for a ride by Roberto and deceived and she hasn't even attacked Luciana for being his wife.

If memory serves me, wasn't it Bea's money which funded and started Iconika to begin with? Or to be correct her family's money? Is she only half owner and is everything she has invested in Iconika? IE: can she gain the upper hand and force Aug-evil out?

Auggy is hateful, and what he is doing to Val with the Argentina house money is disgraceful. Lest we forget, in essence, Aug-evil is a murder too, as concerns his brother and a handful of life saving pills. Hmmmm wonder if ole Raf didn't even have any life insurance. Love to see Aug and Luc living in that old Volkswagen Vanagon Gumbo was cleaning downstairs the other day.

murderer

Thanks, Cece. Great recap and screenshots.

Sandra is frustrating because she knows how things work, yet plays right along. If Augusto had no problem deceiving Bea all those years, why would she (Sandra) expect him to treat her any better when her time expired?

Luciana is wrong of course to call her mom a slut, but I do blame Valeria a bit for making Rafael vulnerable. Once she knew Augusto had toyed with her to get back at Rafael, she should've watched out more for any dirty tricks Augusto would play on him. She's not evil, just very naive.

I actually think it's nice of Roberto to try to play the part of the supportive husband when his heart ain't it.

Thank goodness Gumaro is here to bring on the comedy. He's the only one making me laugh right now.

Are we supposed to believe Alicia hasn't noticed how hot Santiago is? If he followed me from the US to Mexico, I'd be grinning from ear to ear.

Carvivlie, as for Luciana taking Augusto's side: for me it is just proof of the old double standard that gives men an automatic advantage, excuse or pass.

Kirbo, "murderer" nothing less! Something that might be forgotten in all of the action and Augusto's maquinations.

Niecie: "If Augusto had no problem deceiving Bea all those years, why would she (Sandra) expect him to treat her any better when her time expired?"

So very true. I know there are exceptions but serial cheaters don't change. Neither should their victim's expectations of the their romantic future.

Diana

I don't think Valeria is naive at all. It took planning and nerves of steel to marry a guy you don't love while carrying on with his brother and staying with the brother and making him believe your love child is his when your lover proves to have played you. That to me is heartless and extremely selfish. A decent person would have at least said they made a mistake and allowed the partner to make their own decision but Valeria didn't because she didn't love Rafael at the time. She used Rafael.

Valeria probably didn't know she was pregnant until after she broke it off with Augie and was married to Rafael. She may have suspected the baby could be Augie's but didn't have a dna test performed for some time. She handed the dna results to Augie so could it be that she didn't have the test done until now? I can't remember if anything was said to that affect. With Rafa's heart condition, she may have thought it would kill him to tell him. Ironically, it did just that, with Augie's help of course.

I swear, I think they shot the Genomma Lab commercial at Iconika. The one with Barbara Bermundo in a pink dress for Cicarticure.

In one shot of Barbara for Cicatricure, you can see a closeup of that Gigantic glass 'funnel' for lack of a better word, in the background. The ones we see in the aerial shot of Iconica in the previews.
