Antes muerta que Lichita January 4: Lichita is going to Los Angeles.

Happy New Year, friends. First, I'd like to say I'm not happy with Alicia descending into the "generic bimbo" category. She looks like the receptionists now, only in red...

... and having just now learned of the existence of Spanx I can no longer look at these bimbos in their skin-tight dresses without imagining the industrial strength spandex (sometimes in multiple layers) that obliterates any humanity of form. Pobrecitas, I wonder if they have to cut themselves out of those undergarments with scissors when they get home. Anyway...

...the subtitles were functioning very poorly so feel free to elaborate if you got more than I did.

Master murderer and hypocrite Don Augusto consoles his daughter Luciana over the death of her purported father and says the best thing she can do is get knocked up and forget about it.

Braulio and Brisa are having a cheery talk about sex (now they've done it I guess) when the doorbell rings and a hunk with a Braulio moustache and beard is at the door. I will call him pre-Braulio. Pre-Brau is Brisa's ex and she pets him all evening as he gets drunk and says he wants to come back to her. "But Braulio I is my actual boyfriend," she points out while stroking him. He gets very drunk and stays the night. Braulio I is jealous, duh.

We arrive at Elsa's café while Roberto is whining to Alicia that he needs the warmth of her family when he's going through such a tough time. She is negative on this and reminds him he's married. As she's about to leave he detains her with an idea for her promotion of her mother's café: play up its homey atmosphere, that's what people are longing for.

Roberto tells Gumaro: Augusto is worse every day. There seems to be some suspicion Augusto is behind Mateo's disappearance. Roberto breaks into the mansion and into Augusto's desk, but the piece of paper he takes to - a detective? a newspaper guy? - is not enough to get him anywhere.

Sandra calls Augusto at home to have a cozy chat. While he is whispering to her on his cellphone across the piano (that nobody plays), a playful Bea pounces on him and coos/snarls in his ear as he drops the phone ...

... because evidently they had sex recently and she wants more. Sandra hears the exchange. Later Augusto puts off his wife by saying he's so distraught over the death of his brother. Remorseful, she creeps off to pray and he calls Chuchette, who does not answer. Later he tells Chuchette she'd better make it up to him that very night.

Luciana's mom is so lovely without her makeup! She tells Roberto he should console Luciana, who at heart is good "and you can change her." So he goes to console Luciana who has been moaning for days. He just up and says, taking Valeria's advice I guess: "Maybe now would be a good time for you to change into a better person." Subtle. He tries to tell her he too is sad, because his son has disappeared, but she ignores that and continues to moan.

Alicia is trying to think up new slogans for Elsa's café, slogans about love, but she feels so bitter they aren't coming out well, to wit: "In a pair, one pays and the other takes."

Augusto tells the Ikonika multitude that Alicia will be taking Oki Oki big, Oki Oki wants her campaign for the whole American Union...

... and she will also be going to work at the Ikonika USA branch office. She'll come back to D.F. to work on all the campaigns in Mexico for clients who want only her. In her absence, Elias will run things. Sandra is speechless and stony. She says she's going on a long European vacation in two days...

... In private Sandra yells at Augusto about giving her gig to Alicia, but he breathes on her neck and turns her to a pussycat and says this has nothing to do with their plans to escape to the US together. So then she says her vacation comment was just a joke.

Elsa and Nacho kvell over Alicia's success while Magos wipes tables.

Luciana insists Roberto stay in bed with her hour after hour while she snivels. He is bored to the point of paralysis.

Sandra tells Alicia: "You don't have what it takes to be international." They trade some carefully rehearsed words of English.

Dafne persuades her mother to take her out to lunch. "This is my sacrifice" says Bea (ie being seen in public with her awkward daughter). She's only allowed it because Dafne agreed to accept some religious indoctrination. But what Dafne's really engineered is a meeting with Alex and Kenny. They show up, Bea is indignant, Dafne pleads hopes for reconciliation but Bea stamps out.

On her way to the airport, Alicia stops at the café where she's set up an interview with her favorite reporter. They do a story on Alicia, her parents, and the wonderful café. Pictures etc. ..

... Then she's on her way to LAX. Imagining herself as a superstar in a very drab charcoal gray boa, spinning, she ends up dizzy. Hope that doesn't mean she's pregnant. She gets to LA and guess what? Ikonika USA is an empty building. Stay tuned. Over to you, Ezra!

Was that the only boa in the costume department?

Thank you, Jane, for the great recap. Great boa comment! A hot pink one would have been much more in keeping with the fun fantasy.

So,

Brisa has a thing for guys with bad beards. Loved Bobo Braulio getting jealous.

Chuchette denies Augusto a booty call because she would rather be reading "Medicine for the Soul". Rafael may have had a lasting effetct on her.

It did not take Augusto much to snooker Sandra back in.

The "detective" (who really does not know Roberto) could do nothing with the supposed "Info" on Augusto Roberto brought him but did promise to move heaven and earth to find Mateo if Roberto could bring him some real dirt on Augusto.

Thanks for the wonderful recap! My cc's were way off too.

Have to say that pre- raulio is pretty hunky. He can cry on my shoulder anytime!

Jarifa: I was quite happy when Chuchette turned down Augie's call. Maybe there is hope for her. I am worried that Augie is forcing her to "make it up" to him. Another woman that needs to get out from under him pronto.

Sandra is delusional but Elias looked worried when Augie announced Alicia's trip. I hope he is able to look out for her. Right now, I'm pissed his character is gliding, picking up pieces of info, but not really doing much with it or standing up for anyone. Apathetic about everything except Sandra. Granted he did look into Iconika USA.

Jane: Agree that boa was pretty bland. The hot pink must have been out on another show!

Still not feeling warm fuzzies about Rob's detective guy. Worried about lil Mateo. At least, it seems, Rob is playing it smart on this one.

I like that Rob and Alicia are still growing as people and watching them transform, albeit Rob at a snail's pace, is nice to see. Hopefully, Alicia will start covering up her cleavage and looking hootchie and unprofessional. Though I guess if I paid for it I would want to flaunt it too.

Jane- Love your new sidebar pic with the jaunty hat, and this recap.

I was just glad to see Alicia having one of her goofy fantasies again, that I didn't notice the bland boa. It's been a long time since we've seen goofy/daydreamer Alicia.

Just awesome Jane thanks

"Pre-Brau"

Without the make up and bursting boobie clothes, speaking to her mother at the kitchen table I saw a beautiful Alicia. Gimme, gimme more.

Did I hear right, Roberto confirmed he has a son to Alicia? Don't blame her telling him to tell it to his wife but at least she knows another piece of the puzzle.

I probably should have cared Brisa petted her ex in front of Braulio but I don't. I don't get that whole storyline.

Roberto and Luciana look so...so...comfortable together and are perfect for each other.

Thanks for the snarky recap, Jane!
Jarifa, i am with you about the cop. scratching my head a little... if Rob went to this guy because he knew him the why did the guy not know Roberto had spent time in jail? Also, the guy's desk sign said he was an investigator, which could mean he is and he isn't a cop after all.
I agree that Roberto and ALicia are still on growth spurts and are not ready for each other. I appreciate tofie's comments about Roberto. (i just typed oberto... maybe i should use that nick for him... a bit short of fully mature Roberto). So true...
And if i were ALicia's friend I would recommend to her to run run run away from Roberto..
I am starting to feel worse for Daphne...
So the suspense is still up for today as far as who is in the USA office.
When I saw the Gabriel Soto clip about him joining the Lichita staff, he said something to the effect that he was a client of the company's... i wonder if he will be the reason ALicia will be staying in USA more than just a couple days like she thinks now... and Elsa's predictions about her possibly finding another guy in US will come close to the truth...

Tofie- Rob told Alicia about his son on their wedding day, but she refused to believe him. It was too little, too late by that point. Now the only truth he needs to tell her and her family is that he's an ex-convict.

The investigator is a cop. They showed the outside of the building that says "delegacion" before showing Rob talking to him.

Thanks, Jane. Fun recap and I learned a new word. Cheers on your smashing new sidebar photo!

This is the first time I've ever been interested in the Braulio-Brisa storyline. Braulio's lookalike was a hoot.

Yay, Daphne tried to patch up Alex and his mom.

I wish Bea, outside of Augie's range, would have sat down with Alex and Kenny. Or at least Alex. Her continued treatment of Dafne is horrible. Maybe she deserves Augie. She was talking divorce not too long ago. What happened to that?

Thank you Jane---Brisa and the beards is a hoot. Don't you agree?

I sure have my fingers crossed for Alicia---an empty building? Is it time to run yet?

I thought that Bea would at least talk to Alex. It didn't happen so where does that leave Alex and Alicia as friends in the future? I just can't believe that Alex is now out of the picture.

Sandra sure fell in line fast. I am wondering where Sandra will end up?

Can't wait for tonight to see what is in store for us.

must see tv

Excellent Jane.

"Master murderer and hypocrite Don Augusto consoles his daughter Luciana over the death of her purported father" was my favorite line.

I liked the dueling Braulios too (the original was a bit cuter?)

Bea is so mean to her daughter - I want Valeria to steal her away.

"Roberto and Luciana look so...so...comfortable together and are perfect for each other". Umm, tofie, you may be starting to convince me. Especially if Gabe Soto is showing up soon (thanks Marta - missed that clip).

Diana

Not being a Roberto fan, I would love to see him end up with Luciana but maybe not because right now I feel sorry for her.
