Pasion y Poder #41 20160104 Dear Jesus! Why Won't You Give Me This Married Man? Duh!

In the Gomez-Luna bedroom where the action never takes place, Julia wants to talk to Eladio.  Eladio thinks it's great the Art and Nina are getting along so well.  Eladio tells Julia that he's going to work and saunters out of the room.  Julia tells Gaby that she needs her help again.

Art and Nina return from the big dinner.  Nina thinks it's great that the kids are together.  Art and Eladio will be forced to get along now that the kids are together.  Art goes into his office to sulk.

Petra encounters Nina in the foyer and scares the hell out of her with her newly made up face. Petra tells Nina that Dani did it.  Dani comes down the stairs and listens to the exchange between her mother and the maid.  Petra's has returned from dancing.  She picked up the garbage man at the bar and he also brought her home.  Nina tells Petra to tell the garbage man to move his truck.

Eladio asks Dave to work for him again; he got rid of Franco.  Dave reminds Eladio that he doesn't like the way he does business or attacks his girlfriend's father.  He's also a little peeved that Eladio lied to TMZ.  Dave decides to work with his father.

Once again, Miguel is in Regina's bedroom painting her toe nails while they discuss his feelings and Justin Bieber's newest tattoo.  He's certain that he will one day he will slip and confess his love for Connie.  Gina warns him against it.  He says that he doesn't like that way Erick treats Connie.

Art is screwing his wife, but mentally making love to Julia (Ya know he is).  Nina only cares that she is gettin' some.  She said that she wants to remind him why he married her.  Hmmm.  I want to remind you that the only reason you married me is because I can screw very well.  She's a keeper.

Eladio screams for Marintina, the secretary with benefits, and tells her to get the Ratt's contract.

Art tells Augie that he loves Julia, but he's gonna work on his marriage.  Augie tells Art that Gaby sent a message.  Julia is waiting at St. Antonio's Church.

Erick shows a goon a photo of Franco and pays the goon to issue a good old fashioned beat down.  Oh yeah, and steal the phone.  The goon takes the brick of cash and walks off.  Erick changes his mind and calls the henchman from his bad-a$$ red Ferrari.  Stop the beat down and keep the cash, he says! Too late!  The beat down has happened.  Erick jumps out of the car, runs through the parking lot and finds Franco lying in his blood, teeth and urine.  Erick got all of his money's worth!  Anyways Erick calls 911, but hangs up and doesn't report the emergency.   Instead, he grabs Franco's phone and jumps back into his bad-a$$ red Ferrari.

Meanwhile, married Artie and married Julia risk the wrath of God by meeting in a church to discuss their situation.  Julia's wants to know if what Nina said was true?  Is their marriage strong?  Are they going away on a second honeymoon?  Does he love Nina?  Are they staying together? Art doesn't answer.  Finally, he says yes, he's going to stay with his wife because last night, Nina convinced him to stay with her vagina.  He doesn't love Nina, but she knows a lot of tricks.  Julia tells him that she's will divorce Eladio no matter what.  She can't stand him.  Julia begins to cry, so Art grabs her by the face and plants a big juicy kiss on her in front of the other parishioners and the cross (this man has no shame). He begs her not to cry as they make out...in front of the cross.  Eventually she pulls away, but she took all of her sweet time doing it.  She gives back his handkerchief and begs him to leave before they get struck by lighting.  He kisses her hand and tries to get in another smooch.  She tells him to be careful on the way out because her hot bodyguard is waiting outside.  Don't make yourself obvious even though we've just made a spectacle of ourselves by making out in a churchWhatever!

After Art leaves, Julia calls over Efrain, her super hot body guard, and provides him with a subliminal message that he will later give to Eladio.  She's just going to take a few more minutes to pray to Jesus and ask him not to smite her for smooching with a married man in a church.  She'll then head for the confessional and then they will bounce.  Efrain says cool, he'll wait outside.  He's so pretty...not observant, but very pretty.  Anyways after Efrain leaves, Julia has the nerve to pray to Jesus and ask him why he won't give her Art, THE MARRIED MAN.

Dave and Gina are in a café.   He tells her that he's going to work for his father and they promise that nothing will tear them apart.  Smooches.

Francisco comes in and asks Marintina for Eladio.  She hands him some papers and says that Eladio told him to look at the offer or something (I didn't get this).  She calls Franco and gets his voice mail.  Franco can't answer because Erick stole his phone and he probably no longer has any teeth.  She tells him that Francisco fell for it.

Gisela stops by Eladio's office and demands to know what happened to Franco and why he was fired.  When Eladio turns his back, she sneaks a swig from her flask. She threatens to tell his wife that Franco is his kid. She demands more money  Eladio tells her to hit the bricks and removes his tie.  Gisela falls on one of the couches and sobs.  She's concerned about her grandson, but Eladio's not buying it.  Eladio gives her one last chance.  He wraps his tie around his hands as if preparing to choke her.  Get the hell out!  She leaves.

Two men find Franco and asks if he's OK.  He's been beaten and he's lying in a pool of blood....no, he's not OK.  Duh!  Anyways Franco stirs and asks them to call his girlfriend....not the ambulance or the police...or Batman.

Poor Gaby!  Once again, she forced to listen to Julia whining about Art!  We are all saved when she gets a call from strangers reporting that Franco was found lying in a pool of blood.  Gaby freaks out! They think it might be fake, but Julia tells her to call the Red Cross...because it makes sense to call a medical facility when someone's been hurt.  I'm looking at you Franco.

Clara starts her own business as a fashion consultant....really.  I can't understand why I should care.

Poor Augie!  He across town, he too is listening to the Art's sad tale about how he dumped Julia. Seriously, is this what important business men sit around discussing?  Art and Augie continue talking and Art rubs it in that Augie has never been in love so he doesn't know what it's like to mourn for that love.  He and Julia will sacrifice their love so Dave and Gina can be happy.

Erick comes in with a tablet and shows it to his father.  He tells him that he's leaving early tonight.  I don't know what else he said.  Augie grabs the tablet and gives Erick the heave ho.

Eladio sends the Ratt a white car and puts the title in her name. Aldo is so excited that he acts like Eladio bought the car for him.  The Ratt calls Eladio up and thanks him; she declares her love for his money.  She tells him that it's a pity that he can't attend her party.  He tells her that it's a display of his power.  Eladio does not trust her love for his money, so he invites his Rottweiler, Callao, to the big birthday bash.

Dani shows her mother a TMZ photo of Dave and Gina.  Nina comments that everyone is interested in Dave and Gina.  Nina tells Dani not to do anything to hurt Dave and Gina's relationship.  They are helping to repair her relationship with Art.  Dani's pissed that everyone's life is going well except for hers.  She storms off.

Julia and Gaby are now at the hospital visiting Franco.  The doctor tells them that it's a miracle that he's alive.  Franco needs rest and medication.  Julia calls Eladio and tells him that Franco is in bad shape.  She wants to switch hospitals, but Eladio wants to hear it from the doctor.  Julia protests, but she gives in and finds the doctor.  While Eladio talks to the doctor, Julia runs back into Franco's hospital room.  The doctor hands the phone back.  Julia asks what was said, but the doctor says nothing.

Marintina, brings Eladio a folder.  Eladio tells her that Franco caught a beat down.  Marintia is starts crying.  She asks to go to the hospital to visit Franco.  Eladio notices her reaction and tells Marintina, the secretary with benefits, that she'd better not be plumping up the francofurter.   She says that Franco's just a great co-worker.  He grabs her by the arm and stresses that fraternization is grounds for dismissal.  Loose lips and open legs will get you fired.

Gina and Connie are talking in the sitting room.  Petra brings Connie a little black gift bag and tells her that it's a gift from Erick.  Connie removes it from the bag and all of the woman coo over it.  The card says for the woman that I want to spend the rest of my wife with.  Unfortunately for Erick, its the necklace that he bought for the Ratt's birthday.  Erick looks sick because his salary has been cut and he can't afford another one.  Erick begrudgingly puts it around her neck.  He tells her that she looks pretty and she gives him a little smoochie poo.

Later that night, Franco has been moved back to his bedroom in the Gomez-Luna mansion.  Julia wants to move him to the hospital.  Eladio comes in and Julia starts b*tchin' at him.  She's says that it's his fault for kicking Franco out.   Eladio tells her that it's not his fault that Franco pissed somebody off.  Life is hard and Franco had to learn a lesson.  Franco is lucky that he lets him bleed on his sheets.  He's not paying for a hospital bed.  As soon as Eladio leaves, Franco starts moaning.  Julia leaves and Gaby crawls on the bed.  He asks if she told Eladio that he was hurt.  She says yes.

Connie and Clara retreat to the bedroom where Connie continues to gush over her new gift.  Connie gets an email from one of her model friends who is attending the big birthday bash.  Connie suspects that the necklace was a gift for the Ratt.  Connie borrows Clara's phone and calls the stinkin' Ratt's phone.  She gets Aldo and pretends to be the jeweler.  She asks if the Ratt is expecting some jewelry from Erick.  Aldo says yeah.  Connie is not pissed off to the highest degree of pissed-offtivityness. Connie tells Clara that tonight with be the last time that Erick makes a fool of her.  She rushes from the room, but struggles to get down the stairs because of her 4 inch f-me pumps and the super-tight maternity tramp wear.  On the way down, she tells Miguel that she is going to confront Erick.  She thinks he went to the Ratt's birthday party.

Outside of the Ratt's condo, Erick unknowingly walks by Callao.  Callao whips out his cells phone.

Thank you all for you "Get Well Wishes". I was prescribed a antibiotic that didn't agree with me. It wiped out all of my antibodies and make me even sicker. I was then put on probiotics and I am now I'm kinda - sorta back in the land of the living.

Thanks to everyone all the other re-cappers. You were awesome.

Cynderella, thank you and sorry to hear you have been ill. I haven't been watching the show and your title says it all. If only Art and Julia could've been recently divorced. I don't like them but I'm tempted to go binge watch from where I left off. Why? THE RECAPS! This is a stellar team and you, my dear, are the Queen of Snark with the accurately targeted, viciously funny barbs you aim at the characters and the story line. Oh. My. Gosh!

Finally, he says yes, he's going to stay with his wife because last night, Nina convinced him to stay with her vagina.

Anyways after Efrain leaves, Julia has the nerve to pray to Jesus and ask him why he won't give her Art, THE MARRIED MAN.

Eladio notices her reaction and tells Marintina, the secretary with benefits, that she'd better not be plumping up the francofurter.

She rushes from the room, but struggles to get down the stairs because of her 4 inch f-me pumps and the super-tight maternity tramp wear.

Just delicious. Thank you, and even though I bailed a couple of weeks ago, thank all of you on the PyP team and Happy New Year to everyone on this Patio!

OMG, hope you're better now, Cynderella. Being sick is never good and getting sicker from treatment is the worst.

Interesting that the thug left the cell phone at the scene. Was he trying to lead Erick into a trap because he underpaid him? Will this even occur to Chimp-Boy?

Consuelo at least didn't go long with this latest delusion about Chimp-Boy, who wasn't smart enough to have the necklace sent directly to the Rat.

It's hard to believe that Erick is the child of Arturo and Nina: his sisters got all the looks and the brains. Maybe he was switched at birth? He's old enough so that hospitals didn't have DNA to collect to make sure that babies went home with the right parents.

This series thus far has had two blasts from the past for SG: Her comment to Regina about her being the daughter she always wanted must have been an inside joke from the writers because she played Michelle Renaud's mother in LSdP (although she was only in the first 19 episodes). Meeting Arturo in the church, however, doesn't quite match what happened in that series where Roberta was about to get it on with Severiano when they were caught by the priest.

More later.

Cyn- I think it's indecent to laugh this early in the morning. Thank you. I'm glad you're finally on the mend.

Well, this party should certainly bring fireworks. A lot of angry people are on their way over to the Rat Nest. The jeweler sending the expensive necklace over to the wife instead of the mistress also happened the other week on Fatmagul. In that case, the note was clearly addressed to the mistress, so that blew up quickly.

I was glad to finally hear Julia say she would divorce Eladio for herself, and not just because she was going to be able to be with Art. I hope they both stick to their decisions, and stop being wishy washy.

Missing word: To laugh so hard this early in the morning.

Tks Cyn & glad you are on the road to recovery.

Julia makes her first wise decision in 41 capitulos, call the Red Cross for Franco.

The b'day party will be fun, I love novela parties of any type & the crazier the better.

Glad you are a bit better Cynderella, thank you for this

"Nina convinced him to stay with her vagina"

"Connie is not pissed off to the highest degree of pissed-offtivityness"

I sent a text to Julia telling her to work on a plan B and she ignored me. Instead, to prop up her ego and go full martyr she'll blame the end of the affair on the budding relationship of her son.

Love JS and SG but that was cringe-worthy and not because it was in a church. Had the hotness of a dog licking it's privates during a dinner party.

I feel bad for Fabiola Guajardo and she should fire her agent. After incredible acting as Isela in Yo No she has to be a prop and it's painful to watch.

Miguel is so weird. If Regina wants to help give him a hamster or something.
I'd love to see Miguel and Julia in a blank stare off.
Hmmmm...switched at birth, perhaps Miguel belongs to Julia.

Glad to hear you're feeling a bit better, Cynderella! I wish you a happy 2016 and a very speedy recovery! :)
Not that we ever noticed you were under the weather, your recaps over the Holidays were as superb as ever! I do have a bone to pick with you though, this particular recap was so hilarious, the tears messed up my makeup and I had to reapply from scratch! Please ensure you add a disclaimer from now on! :p

In all seriousness though, this was a great episode and I loved it even more knowing that I had your recap to look forward to! You and I laughed at the same bits and imagining how your snarky treatment would recount those funny scenes made me chuckle throughout last night's episode. These were the highlights for me:

-- I loved how Eladio just gave Julia a smile and walked off when she asked him why he wouldn’t reconsider his decision to fire Franco and call him back. La dejó con la palabra en la boca (he left her hanging) :D
I did wonder though, why did she ask him “Ahorita?” when he said he was going to work? What does she care whether he comes or goes? Is she seeking his company?

-- A vampy Ninaesque Petra coming back home from a night on the town at the same time as her employers.

-- Erick flipping out at the sight of an unconscious Franco (still can't believe he didn't call the Mexican 911; what a colossal a-hole!) and at the sight of the obscenely expensive mistress gift that was accidentally sent to the wife! Also, how is it possible he gets to keeps that bad-a$$ Ferrari after all his transgressions? Oh I forgot, it must be due to the Montenegro family rampant ADD.

-- The Efraín sighting... How very delicious!

-- The Gisela-Eladio scene. The way he meticulously untied that boating knot on his tie and he took off the tie slowly wrapping it around his fist was ominous. Gisela's wailing and snotty sniveling was a funny contrast to his menacing stance and his impatience.

-- The guys who approached Franco at the parking lot also cracked me up: “¿Estás bien? (You OK?)”. -“Naaa, don’t worry about it! This is my favorite spot to meditate lying down in a pool of my own blood. Just give me another 5 minutes and I’ll be on my own way.”

-- But the Star Snarky Moment of the Night for me was, hands down, Julia asking God why oh why he's taking Arturo from her again. God didn't take a thing from you, woman! You can't lose what you never had! Arturo extricated himself from any commitment to you yet again, that's all. He’s been playing with your feelings for the 3rd time in the course of whatever you call that weird quarter-century-long attachment / obsession you have for one another. He did it first when he impregnated another woman during your engagement. Then he did again when, being married to the woman who carried his first child, he tried to dissuade you from marrying Eladio. And third time's a charm, he does it again now that he tells you he’ll stay with his wife, all the while kissing you and professing his eternal love for you, in church no less. It isn’t God’s fault you’re this stupid, Julia. It isn't God's fault your dignity and reasoning skills retired back in 1989.

Erick: So much incompetence, so little time

Consuelo: Girl bye. Erick will make a fool out of you again and again and you'll like it.

Miguel: Get a life and get out of the house.

Julia & Arturo: What great love story? There is no great love story. Art is bored with Nina and you just want an escape. Girl, bye.

Ratt: What is given can easily be taken away

Samanta: Comic relief

Dani: Get a life & maybe something will be going on.

Marintia: You're good for a pump and a dump and that's about it.

Cynderella, so glad to hear you are on the mend and thanks for still hanging in and giving us this recap. Good lord, I'm dying here in the office trying not to let on I am reading this hysterical retelling. Your aside on Franco after the "Hey, you all right" from the idiots in the garage about made me burst. I mean, the props people sure didn't make it questionable the guys was in serious trouble there. (Might have overdone the pool of blood a bit.)

But considering the blood flows indicated in the credits, I'm guessing this may be the start of things getting a bit uglier. wait until Franco finds out David is back at the business. He lost his old job and the son is back. yeah, so how's the head feel now? I guess this also puts Gaby back to the "my poor Franco" mode. Blech.

You know, Nina should think of the fact that she could really come out ahead on this whole thing. With the stupidity of Art and Julia meeting in oh so secret (NOT), all she would have to do is hire a detective, get a divorce and take the guy for everything he has. Move on to hubby #2. I know, I'm not a Nina fan, but seriously, if we are supposed to be cheering on Art and Julia ( and I LOVE the actors), sorry, it's not working. I'm so friggin' sick of listening to their moaning--they BOTH screwed up! Noone else's fault. Grow up! Julia, you hate your hubby, do something. Not contingent on Artie. I don't know how Auggie takes it with Art acting like a 16 year old in heat. He better be getting paid very handsomely.

Not for a minute did I NOT think that Gisella was a dead woman walking if she hadn't gotten out of there. She still may be. I might not mind either.

They need to start making us care plot wise why we are getting Clara, Francisco, the kid, etc. in all this. I'm not seeing enough to see their impact on this story. C'mon writers--or don't bother. Only thing I got with Clara is by opening a FASHION business, that could pull Connie in to work with her?

-- A quote from the capítulo --

“¡Fui la reina de la noche! (...) Así como lo oyen. ¡Hasta pesque otro galán! Ahora si me disculpan, me voy a mi habitación a planchar la oreja y a babear la almohada.” *

* Petra recounting how she painted the town red in her new trampy look: “I was the queen of the night! (...) You heard it right. I even hooked me another beau! Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to my room to hit the sack and drool over the pillow.”

Pescar = to fish, to catch, to hook.

Disculpar = to excuse, to forgive, to justify.

Habitación = room, bedroom. Other synonyms for bedroom are “cuarto”, “recámara” (in Mexico) and “dormitorio”. “Alcoba” and “aposentos” are archaic words and you might have encountered them in “telenovelas de época” before; but my understanding is that they can also be used humorously, the way we might call a bedroom in English “sleeping quarters”, “boudoir” or “bedchamber” as a joke.

Planchar = to iron, to press, to straighten (hair for example). “Planchar la oreja”, literally means “to iron the ear” (in Spain, they say “chafar la oreja”, i.e. “to flatten the ear”), and is a metaphor for sleeping.

Babear = to drool, to slobber.

Almohada = from the Arabic “al-makhadda”, meaning “pillow”.

Thank you Cynderella. I'm sorry to hear that you been sick. I hope that you feel well soon. I loved the recap and the title. It was top notch as always and I loved your humor. It's great to start off the day with a recap from you.

There were many great lines, but my favorites were:

"Once again, Miguel is in Regina's bedroom painting her toe nails while they discuss his feelings and Justin Bieber's newest tattoo."

"Hmmm. I want to remind you that the only reason you married me is because I can screw very well. She's a keeper."

"Meanwhile, married Artie and married Julia risk the wrath of God by meeting in a church to discuss their situation."

"Two men find Franco and asks if he's OK. He's been beaten and he's lying in a pool of blood....no, he's not OK. Duh"

"Franco is lucky that he lets him bleed on his sheets.

This was such a nice episode and tonight promises to be good too.

Thanks, Cynderella. I laughed all the way. Hope you get lots of rest and feel better soon. One of my favorites: Erick jumps out of the car, runs through the parking lot and finds Franco lying in his blood, teeth and urine. Erick got all of his money's worth!

Loving all the comments.

Not much to laugh at on the comedy “Lichita” right now, but PyP was hilarious last night. Poor Erick. Not! I can’t wait for Consuelo to bust him in his Zorro costume. Clara is going with her, so hopefully will help her BFF with the punching.

Arturo and Julia taking their adultery thing to the church. Wow!

Eladio is still the smartest of them all. Will he figure out Marintina is spying on him for Franco? Will she switch alliances between the son and the father?

How is Nina going to keep Petra down on the farm now that Petra knows her milkshake brings all the boys to the yard?

Artie and Julia did have some nerve kissing (and cheating on their spouses) in church in front of the cross. Would that be considered sacrilegious? Good thing Julia decided to head off to the confessional afterwards to gain absolution.

Wow, glad that Consuelo put two and two together and realized that the necklace might have intended for The Ratt. Good for her to have gotten to the bottom of things. I hope that this time she does leave Erick for good and doesn't come back to him like she done so before. I hope Clara comes along with her to visit The Ratt.

I didn't catch that Clara was thinking about starting a fashion business. Thanks Cynderella! I wonder where they are going with that.

OK, Erick regret hiring the beat down and tried to stop it, but was too late. But then he fails to call 911 and flees the scene like a rat and then acts as if nothing had happened. He sure deserves a huge anvil for that-- even if the victim was Franco.

Urban - The cell phone was left where it was because Erick had agreed the thugs that, that would be the place where the phone would be left so Erick could get it.

**might have been intended for The Ratt.

**agreed with the thugs that, that would be the place where the phone would be left so Erick could get it.

Well, Marintia and Franco have somehow framed Francisco for something, so he'll become relevant to the storyline in that way.

Oh yeah, about Francisco.. Marinita told him not to accept some business deal and told him that it was Eladio's orders. Francisco did find it odd that Eladio wouldn't accept the deal since it seemed like a good one. This was obviously a plan that Franco and Marinita came up with to get Francisco fired and to show Eladio that he needs Franco working with him by his side.

That will be an interesting development. It could get Francisco out of there and maybe someone will figure out what happened.

Had a slight viewing issue on the first go-round, so tonight's recap could be a little late.

I betcha Connie places most of the blame on The Ratt, not Erick. Connie is going no where except to humiliate herself.

Thank you, Cynderella ... so hilarious.

A little clarification: When Gaby got the phone call about Franco and she started to freak out and scream, "I must go to him!", MENSA reject Julia screeched, "No! You can't just run off willy-nilly. It might be a fake call! Sometimes people do that to lure you to a lonely place to kidnap you ... and ..." (wait ... Whaaat???)

Gaby then said, "No, Tia, it was la CRUZ ROJA that called, DUH!"

IMO, Julia came off like a real snob in this. She was screeching (she screeches a lot) to Eladio to move Franco to another (real) hospital BEFORE she had even talked to the doctor to see if he could even be moved. I guess she thinks the Red Cross hospital is only good enough for poor people. She gets on my nerves!

Anon- Kidnapping of rich people (and poor people too) in Mexico is a very real problem.

She's backkkkkk!!!! I am so glad that you are feeling better, Cynderella. I was prescribed the same antibiotic as Judyb when I had a nasty sinus infection a few weeks ago, and like Judyb, it had me feeling better the next day. However, a few years ago , I was prescribed Augmentin (?)which made me verra, verra sick.

Julia and Art are on my last nerve..especially Art. " I am soooo in luvvve with Julia, but....I still want to do the Electric Bugaloo with Hot NIni with the purple pout" He should have had a lightening hit in that church. No ethics!

P.s. I started taking a probiotic every day about a year ago.

That is not uncommon among cuckolded wives. While there are women who make a game out of stealing men from others (like Daniela), many -- probably more -- are deceived by the men. They tend to forget that a man's heart or hormones can't be taken without his consent.

Antibiotics or probiotics one would never know by your great recaps. Lila called you the Queen of snark and I completely agree. Excellent, nothing but pure recap excellence.

All great comments today by everyone. Most of the great snark lines have already been mentioned but I don't think that this one has---loose lips and open legs will get you fired.

OMG! Adultery in the church and right up front near the alter. Couldn't they have met in the park? Struck dead by lightning? It still could happen.

I have read dozens of complaints about poor writing in several different novelas. Poor writing has never bothered me. Maybe it's because I don't speak or understand Spanish so in general a poor line or two doesn't get to me. I tend to go along with the story as a whole and not line for line. However one line today really had me shaking my head. What were the writers thinking? Two guys find Franco badly beaten and lying in a pool of blood so what does one guy say? Are you alright??? Que??? That line needs to be put in the novela Hall of Shame file.

Nandicta---A great response to my late comment yesterday. I repeat that I love reading your thoughts.

There's so much going on in PyP. Intrigue and counter intrigue, people being used and set up and adultery in front of the cross! Yikes! I'm not going to miss a single minute of front row viewing.

Thanks for another of your wickedly hilarious recaps, Cynderella. I always look forward to your uniquely subversive takes on this TN.

UA,

Sunday you said this about Nina:

" We only know that she flopped as an actress and ended up using her beauty to get a man with a big bank account..."

Could you refresh my memory? I'm not doubting this, but I can't recall when this information about her was revealed. I don't even remember learning that she was an actress. I'm surprised that like other washed up actresses we've encountered in TNs that she doesn't occasionally watch videos of her past work. There's certainly a bunch to choose from.

I do think that Dani may have been having a bit of good-natured fun with Petra's makeover but I don't think that her intentions were malicious. I believe that she genuinely likes and respects Petra. They seem to enjoy each others' company.

So how was it that Coni ended up receiving that necklace Erick intended for Montse? Is Erick simply that much of a screwup?

At this point, for the life of me I can't figure out why the writers think any viewer would want to see this deceitful couple successfully reunite. I can't imagine any member (with the exception of Julia's facilitator, Gabi) of either family being happy with this.

Carlos

Thank you, Cynderella, another great recap.

Carlos - I don't think they showed how/why Consuelo received the necklace instead of Montse, but I believe that Eric, being the detail-minded smart fella that he is, left out the "ship to" info and the jewelry store, having dealt with this reknown family before, automatically sent it to the wife. hee, hee - I LOVED the expression on his face when the whole gaggle (Connie, Regina, "Samantha") giggled and showered him with compliments!

I think he had it delivered home at an hour when he knew Arturo was not going to be home from work yet because he wanted to give it to the Rat in person. Then he got delayed by a few minutes and the bag was handed to Consuelo on the assumption that he bought her jewelry to make up after the almost break-up.

Yes, he is that much of a screw-up. If he didn't want to open up the possibility of this kind of thing happening he would have picked it up from the store himself and paid cash so Arturo wouldn't see a credit card bill later. It probably took his entire spending limit.

The information about Nina's failed career was in her character profile published here before the series began. I doubt she has said much about it to her children now that she has somewhat infiltrated High Society and such a career (however brief) would be looked down upon.

I doubt that Daniela's makeover of Petra was good-natured, but Petra does seem immune to her antics.

Tofie, neither of Arturo's sons could have been switched that way. Miguel was born at least 6 months before David. If Arturo's US business trip happened even the day after he saw Julia when he was first widowed he wouldn't have married Nina upon arrival in the US. I think they got married after three months, which would mean that Julia would have been at least 6 months pregnant on their wedding day. That means that -- casting notwithstanding -- Erick is younger than David. He's certainly less mature.

The DNA results have to show that Arturo isn't David's father or he would have panicked upon looking at it.

UA I was being silly about Miguel. He and Julia share blank stares and flinch at loud noises.

OK.

BTW, thanks to the nonsense we're getting with YNCELH's reruns, will someone please e-mail me later when tonight's Poder begins to let me know if they're picking up from where yesterday left off? I'm currently working on ep 42.

Thanks Anon and UA. And thanks UA for reminding me of the character profiles that Mauricio posted in anticipation of this TN (belated thanks Mauricio, I don't know how I missed it). Wouldn't it be great if we joined her in reminiscing for a few moments over one of her earlier efforts... say like Gata Salvaje or maybe Contra Viento y Marea?

Carlos

Thanks so much for the hilarious recap! Subtitles were garbage last night so this was SO helpful and enjoyable at the same time.

If this TN wants me to believe in the soulmate status and amazing past and continued love of Julia and Arturo, I am going to need a detailed explanation for why he cheated while engaged and got another woman pregnant which led to her marrying Eladio out of spite to try and hurt him and put them all in the mess they are currently in. They keep talking about wanting to re-live the love that they had but unless I missed it, we aren't getting a legitimate reason why it blew up. If Julia is the love of his life and they were sooooo in love, why would he cheat on her with a woman, who based on the way he has talked about her, he didn't even love.

UA - Can you please explain what you mean by YNCELH repeats? I watch that TN but have fallen about 15 episodes behind and am working my way through it off On Demand. Have there not been new episodes every weekday at 10pm est? I know that based on how many episodes would have been left, YNCELH would end prior to the new TN beginning but thought that they would just fill the spot for a few weeks with something else.

Can you elaborate as to how many reruns there have been and what the upcoming schedule is please? Where can I find it if indeed they are randomly running reruns as your comment implied. Since I watch off On Demand, there are no previews and since I am behind, every time a commercial comes on for YNCELH during PyP, I turn away and mute because I don't want to be spoiled so if they are explaining it in promos, I am not seeing that. Thanks.

Anon321- When this week started, there were only 4 total episodes of Yo No Creo left, yet, Uni has announced that it will end next Monday. 6 days, 4 episodes. With no explanation. Yesterday, they reran Friday's episode. They did this Christmas week as well, rerunning the Wed episode on Friday. In order for it to end next Monday, another one of this week's episodes will have to rerun at some point too.

Carlos, you can also think about Telemundo's Zorro, in which she was the heroine with the ugly name of Esmeralda (ugly because the first time I ever heard it was in the Rogers and Hammerstein's musical version of Cinderella as the name of one of the stepsisters). Also, TM's Los Herederos del Monte where she marched in to seduce the inheritance out of the brothers and the hormones of the oldest one.

Anon321, because of the number of remaining episodes for YNCELH and the timing there was a rerun on Christmas Day (Friday) of the prior Wednesday episode. There was a new episode on New Year's Day, but it was repeated last night. I don't think there was any warning about that and I was preparing what is now tonight's episode. I posted it on the timer but pulled it back to the Drafts folder when I saw Vivi's e-mail.

There will be one more repeat this week but I don't know when and I don't think the network is telling anyone either.

Thank you Vivi and UA for your explanations..very helpful!

-- Daisynjay: Francisco, Clara and the WTF Family (Justino, Luisita and the late Maribel who wasted precious airtime just walking around crying and agonizing) are pure filler characters (“personajes de relleno”). Their sole purpose is to extend episodes by either being the come-with person, the hang-out-with person or the empathize-with person. At times, they are even given some silly side-plot that nobody cares about and they drift in and out of scenes aimlessly until the writers figure out what to do with them. This same executive producer gave us “La Que No Podía Amar” (LQNPA) which had several filler characters whose sole purpose was to provide PSAs, advertise Tostitos and some brand of dairy products, and extend the novela by at least 20 episodes-worth of perfectly disposable scenes.

To a lesser extent, Auggie is also a filler character; all he’s done so far is listen to Art’s horny confessions and shake his head disapprovingly. However, he seems to substitute the Priest and the voice of reason characters that used to be a staple in every novela. In PyP, we have no Padrecito and those who should normally play the role of the wise elders are, well, Gramps and Gisela!

-- Niecie: I agree that Eladio is by far the smartest character in this TN, though it’s not that hard to be the brightest when one is surrounded by so many dim bulbs! Nevertheless, I’m surprised he isn’t more suspicious of Marintia seeing how she and Franco always seemed to be in conspiracy mode.

-- Mauricio: Clara is advertising some direct selling scheme à la Avon, where I imagine she’ll be selling women’s clothes and/or accessories from a catalogue. As a filler character, doing product placement is one of her raisons d’être on this show.

-- Vivi: Marintia told Francisco that Eladio instructed him to suspend negotiations with some “automotriz” (I assume GLA wants to buy a car manufacturer or some service company related to the automotive industry) because he is no longer interested in doing a deal with them / acquiring them. Francisco, acting like he got promoted overnight from hall monitor in junior high to right-hand man of Mexico’s leading business tycoon, falls for this dumb “trick” hook, line and sinker, without even double-checking with his boss! I would fire his behind for stoooopid based on this instance alone!

-- Gringo: ¡Muchas gracias! I appreciate that we disagree amicably while still getting to poke gentle fun at each other and have a great laugh about it! Caray Caray is perhaps the only internet forum I encountered where people can share their opinions freely and be at odds with each other in the most respectable and friendliest of ways. Everybody in the Patio should stand up and give themselves some hearty applause for being the coolest peeps in cyberspace! Cocktails are on the folks seated at the Baddies Table (This is where I get to sit now since I seem to derive so much joy from watching the “designated” villains of this tale: Eladio, Franco, Humberto, El Callao, Gisela, Nina, Dani and Erick). Tonight’s episode promises to be eventful. Can’t wait! ¡Salud!

-- Carlos and Susanlynn: I’m really starting to think that the writers are deliberately trying to make us loathe the Julia-Arturo pairing. This is the only logical explanation I can find, especially after the church makeout session. Either the writers are riling us up on purpose or they’re totally off their rockers!

-- UA: “The DNA results have to show that Arturo isn't David's father or he would have panicked upon looking at it.” My understanding is that Arturo provided Julia with his DNA information which she has yet to compare with David’s. I don’t know how she’s going to go about it but David has not yet submitted his sample for a DNA comparison to take place.

-- Steve: Eladio has already caught Erick and MonZorrat red-handed during one of their mating rituals. She somehow managed to convince Eladio that it was a one-off (the fact that he believed her and resumed sleeping with her based on this blatant lie is sooooo unlike Eladio and requires major beanie-adjustment on our part but anyhoo...) so Erick attending her birthday party spells trouble and might even lead to a physical confrontation.

Raquel Olmedo (Gisela) is also a highly capable toxic mother in other novelas. She's a good complement to Humberto's nasty control freak issues here.

-- UA: I only saw Raquel Olmedo in two TNs where she played a very supportive and nurturing mother figure: "Esmeralda" (1997) starring Fernando Colunga and Leticia Calderón and Amor Gitano (1999), a lesser known novela de época with (a smoking hot gypsy-styled) Mauricio Islas and Mariana Seoane as the main couple, with Alejandro Camacho playing the main antagonist. Therefore, seeing Raquel Olmedo as Gisela in this TN came as a surprise to me. Didn't know she had it in her to play a nasty, selfish and manipulative character and still be lovable (OK, I'm biased. I really like this actress!).

Cynderella, this was incredible.

Like everyone else, I was laughing in grateful appreciation for your great wit and humor.

"Once again, Miguel is in Regina's bedroom painting her toe nails while they discuss his feelings and Justin Bieber's newest tattoo" was my favorite with " Julia has the nerve to pray to Jesus and ask him why he won't give her Art, THE MARRIED MAN" a close second.

Highlights were Erick's sickened panic realizing Ratt's present was given to Consuelo and then Connie's indignation when she came to the same conclusion. Can't wait to see the fireworks at this party! I have a feeling the Ratt is in for some difficult times too once Eladio finds out Erick is there.

Eladio is such a kind, caring father. His only soft spot seems to be Julia. Lucky girl...

Glad you are on the mend and hope you are feeling better soon.

Diana

Raquel Olmedo is a near-perfect double for my flamenco teacher of years past. Look for Barrera de Amor in which she portrays a highly toxic mother with a religious mania who is guilty of a number of crimes including blasphemy. I also loved Amor Gitano.

** Slightly OT **

-- UA, Susanlynn and other aficionados of novelas de época: "Amor Gitano" was a very decent offering in this genre, albeit a little too short for my taste (55 episodes only). I watched it last year on Youtube and now that I see the opening song and credits again, I realize just how chockfull of stars this TN was: Mauricio Islas (Adolfo in "Amor Real"), Mariana Seoane (I think this is the only protagonist role she's done), Alejandro Camacho (Alejandro in "Cuna de Lobos", currently starring in "Yo No Creo En Los Hombres"), Nailea Norvind (the main villana in MIVAC), Raquel Olmedo (Gisela in PyP), Maya Mishalska (Manuel's French cousin in "Amor Real", Úrsula in "Pasión"), Alberto Estrella (Mario in "Pasión"), Manuel Ojeda (Francisco in "Alborada", Fulgencio in "Corazón Salvaje 2009"), María Rubio (Catalina Creel in "Cuna de Lobos"), Roberto Palazuelos (Camilo in MEPS), Tania Vázquez (Loafly Norton, Esteve's fake niece in MEPS), Valentino Lanús (starred as the main galán in a bunch of stuff I never saw but I remember he was Martín in "Alborada")... Even our very own Julia, the lovely Susana González, was in this!

Here is the entrada (opening credits) of "Amor Gitano" for your viewing pleasure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkpxPOz9Nps (this is the best quality video I could find. Sorry!)

Good recap Cindyrella. These people are so serious that they're funny.
"the doctor tells them that it's a miracle that he still alive.
Franco needs rest and medication". The fact that the doctor tried to sound so very serious saying that, is so funny.
Poor Nina they sacrifice they're love so David and Gina can be together. These people are so pitifully pathetic. They cause their own misery. Tonight should be a mess.

I'm late to this recap but wow was it great, Thank you Cynderella!

These nuggets made me howl:

"he's going to stay with his wife because last night, Nina convinced him to stay with her vagina"

"Eladio notices her reaction and tells Marintina, the secretary with benefits, that she'd better not be plumping up the francofurter"

I think the plot thus far is weak, but I am absolutely loving this campy novela. I'm someone who loved the 80's prime time soaps so I love the Alexis versus Crystal that is going on between Nina and Julia. Arturo really is no prize, but I can't help myself...I'm completely hooked.

Petra was the comic in last nights eppy and I think even the actress who plays Daniela couldn't help herself from giggling. I caught her in the mirror and I'm not sure but her snickering and laughing may not have been part of the script.

I feel a murder coming on...if I'm right I sure hope it's Monserrat. I really can't see how this girl can survive. Erick has already threatened her, Eladio has warned her and now Consuelo is gunning for her. Add to that her friend Aldo knows everything and wants a piec of the pie, hence why he tried to blackmail Eladio. The party is a masquerade, so it would be easy for her to turn up dead and not know who the real killer is. What's a TN without a death and someone in prison?

Erick is too stupid and has been very sloppy in all of his dealings.

I just can't with Julia and Arturo and the whole church nonsense. If these writers want me to root for them they are going to have to do better. So far I am find myself rooting more for Nina and Eladio.

I have to say I am loving Colunga in this TN. I find myself riveted to him in every scene!
