Pasion y Poder #46 20160111

GLA

Franco asks Eladio for Gaby's hand in marriage.  Eladio asks Gaby to leave.  Eladio stands and sticks out his hand and pulls Franco practically over the desk.  He congratulates Franco and tells him that he's not getting a penny from the Bank of Gomez-Luna, even if they should marry.  Eladio reminds Franco that he's poor, broke and homeless.  Franco assures Eladio that he really loves Gaby and he will give her everything.  He goes on to tell Eladio that he taught him to work hard, so he knows how to get a job.  Eladio is impressed and says that he might give Franco his job back if he finds Aldo.  Eladio tells Franco that he fired Francisco for effing up a car deal.  He didn't know that Francisco was a dumb as a rock.  Eladio snaps his fingers and Franco bolts from the office to find Aldo.

Franco and Gaby retreat to his glass office for a little PDA.  Franco tells her that he can't get her a ring because he's unemployed right now, but he will get her something better.  Marintia, the secretary with benefits, returns enters the office, so Franco introduces Gaby as his fiancé to his mistress/secretary.  Franco wants Marintia to find some address for him pronto.  Marintia congratulates them, but shows her true feelings once the couple has departed.  She's not down with this.  She calls them imbeciles.

Later Gaby meets with Augie and asks him for legal advice for a friend.  Augie cuts the crap and tells her that he knows that Julia wants a divorce.  He asks if Julia is serious.  Gabby assures her that Julia hates Eladio's guts.  Augie says that he's not expert on divorces.  Gaby tells Augie that she's marrying Franco.  Augie is not impressed.  Gaby asked Augie why he's never married.  Augie says that he never met the perfect woman until he met her.  Augie tells Gaby that love doesn't keep marriages together...will does.  He will refer her to one of his divorce lawyer friends for Julia.  He leaves, but steals a kiss on the cheek.

Later Franco tells Callao that he will be for ever grateful to him if he finds Aldo.  Callao tells Franco that he is only loyal to Eladio, but he can tell Eladio it was his idea if he wants to.  Humberto rolls his hover chair into the living room.  He tells Franco to behave or he will have Eladio kick him out.  Franco tells Humberto he's marrying Gaby.  He bends down and points in Humberto's face.  Gaby looks on, but neither man sees her until she walks in.  Humberto thinks that no one in the house shows any respect.  Gaby tells him that he doesn't show respect to anyone either.  Eladio interrupts the Franco and Gaby and tells Franco that he should be working on his assignment.  Franco tells Eladio that he is working on it.  Humberto rolls himself back into the living room and tells Eladio to kick out Franco.  He also tells Eladio that Franco thinks that he's going to marry Gaby.  Eladio tells Humberto that he's the only one that will get kicked out and Franco can marry Gaby with Eladio's permission.  Eladio shoves Humberto and his Hover Chair from the room.  Gaby and Franco cling to one another.  Eladio tells them to stop touching.  She can't marry Franco unless he completes his assignment.

Puerto Vallarta-American Party Hotel

Gina is talking to Miguel on the phone from the beach. Gina tells Miguel that she doesn't know where Erick is.  She doesn't know any of his friends.  Gina tells Miguel to don't ruin his relationship with Connie.  Just stick to being Connie's friend and stop being so creepy.  Gina feels all guilty because she can't tell David that his dad was boinking the Ratt.

David, Gina and Julia are having in a restaurant having lunch or something.  David steps away from the table to take an important phone call.  Julia asks Gina if Erick was boinking the Ratt.  Gina says yes, and Julia, who's been sipping red wine, shares with Gina that Eladio was also gettin' some Ratt tail.  Julia tells Gina that marriage to Eladio is a bitch. The Ratt affair is just the last straw.  Gina says that she will not tolerate infidelity.  Julia tells Gina that she hopes she will be happy with David.

Later, Art shows up at the table. Now David and Gina get important phone calls and have to leave.  Art's surprised that she has been paroled.  Julia explains that her hot bodyguard is on the way.  Julia tries to escape, the is foiled when the waiter shows up with a fruit plate.  Art encourages her to sit back down and eat.  Julia tells Art that he has the right to pursue his happiness.  Julia says that she has stayed with Eladio because of guilt, Dave and her lack of ambition.  She is also financially dependent on Eladio.  Art says that he stays with his wife because he has to fix his kids first.  He upset that his wife betrayed him again.  She knew that entire time where Erick is, but didn't tell him.  When Efrain, the hot bodyguard enters the restaurant, Julia runs away from the table before she an be seen by him.  Efrain spots her near the door and she acts as if she's been near the door the entire time.  She returns to her hotel room.

Business Meeting:  David and Gina are getting a project review on the hotel.  David and Gina exchange worried glances when the meeting moderator tells them that she won't tolerate their family feud.

After the meeting, David and Gina talk about how they will go about competing for the same project.

Gina and Art discuss how she and Dave are going after the same account.  Art tells Gina that they need to win this deal.  Gina tells Art that Dave is her competition.  Arts not happy about it because Eladio takes business personally.  Gina tells Art that he can get a divorce if he wants to.  He has the right to find happiness.  Art tells her that someone else told him that too.  Art also tells Gina that Nina lied to him about Erick's whereabouts.

Back in the hotel room, David and Julia discuss how they haven't gone out together in 15 years.  I missed part of the conversation, but Julia makes David promise to get a yearly health examination.  Dave heads off to the spa, but Julia goes for a walk.

Gina and Dave are having a couples massage and sitting in the Jacuzzi.

Amusement Park

Francisco, Lusita and Clara are walking down the stairs.  Francisco is not letting his recent unemployment get him down.  He his having a blast with Lucita and Clara at the amusement park. Justino had a work emergency.  Lucita thinks that Francisco is very handsome because she's only five years old.  Justino shows up at the park to pick up his daughter.  Justino looks pissed when he sees Francisco and Clara having a great time together.  Justino, Franciso, Lusita and Clara go to the castle ride and then walk home together.  Justino carries Lucita into the house.

Clara suggests that Francisco tell Dave about getting fired.  Francisco doesn't want to do it because it will hurt Dave.  Clara tells him to ask Connie to help him get a job with the competition, The Montenegros.  Francisco says no.  He's to noble to eat.  He plants a big kiss on Clara, Justino sees it and is not happy.  Gisela watches from the window.  Pervs.

The detectives have arrived at the Montenegro mansion with an arrest warrant for Erick.  Dani calls Erick and tells him to move because Nina blabbed to pops.  Pops is now in Vallarta looking for him.  Nina will probably blab to the cops as well.  Nina tells the cops that they can search the house.  Dani returns and asks what's up.  Erick tells his friend that they have to move.  The friend thinks that Eladio is looking for Erick.  Erick anonymously calls the police and tells them that Eladio was the Ratt's lover and he killed the Ratt.

Aldo runs to a payphone and calls the police.  He anonymously tells the cops that Julia visited the Ratt as well.

Art and Julia meet on the pier.  Art tells Julia that he will never stop loving her.  Julia impulsively kisses Art and asks him to forgive her.  Art grabs her back and rams his tongue down her throat.

Cynderella,
Thanks for the recap. I haven't finished watching the episode, but your recap is better.

I don't know how everyone feels about this, but I think that Auggie and Gaby make a good couple. IMO they have good chemistry. Franco is just an Eladio junior, but of course Gaby does not know all the dirty and most likely illegal things he's done for his padrino. Auggie is older than Gaby, but I don't think it's by too much. Maybe ten years. It's just the grey hair makes him look older to some; to me it just makes him look unique and more mature. Anyway, I just thought I'd put that out there.

Also, I think that it was either Erick or Franco that killed TheRat.

Thanks for the great recap Cynderella
Hasta Pronto!

Thanks, Cynderella.

AuntyAnn, I am sure that Silverfox Augie and Gaby will be together in the end when Franco is revealed as a villain and is either dead or in jail.

Ah..acting is tough...the beach..the spa...the all inclusive resort.Pobrecitos.

I have no sympathy for Art and Julia...bed made..sleep in it. Boohoo #sorrynotsorry

To Rick..enjoy the surf and sand while you can. Dope.

Gracias, Cynderella.

I'm reasonably sure that Eladio's dismissal of Humberto was mostly for show in front of Gabriela and Franco. He definitely wants Humberto under his thumb as well, so we shouldn't expect him to apologize for bullying him like this. It's not like Humberto doesn't deserve it, although I doubt he will ever regret finding someone tougher to bully and destroy his daughter.

Franco has yet to realize that he can't win this situation until he gets out on his own and away from Eladio. He is desperate for Eladio's approval because he was his only father figure and he will be livid when he finds out that Eladio actually is his father. Whether he will ever understand that Eladio has no human emotion beyond rage is another question. I don't think Franco is stupid and this is a difficult concept to understand for many people.

More later. I need my tea now.

I'm still sticking with either Erick or Franco, who killed Montserrat!

I'm also not ruling out Miguel because of his creepiness & Counselo because she drove out of the Montenegro prison!

Cynderella Thank You soo mucho. Too funny . I love your take on the outright goofiness in this TN.

Susanlynn: Yup tough allright, the beach, the spa, kissing all over Julia. Argh tie me to an anthill.

Augustino and Gaby: I too, want those two together. Augustino is obviously interested, and must be trying to warn Gaby (with his self interest at heart) that Franco is a B A D choice for Hub a Dub. IE: an Eladio clone, not to mention cootie infection from Marintia. But how much does he know about Francofurter? Will he be able to save her? I'd betcha Auggy could afford her tuition and maybe even give her a place to live. ! !

Just a quick comment on the music. Based on what I've seen in the closing credits there are a lot of different composers with different styles contributing to this series. Listen tonight for a piece that occurs in both hours which sounds very Hitchcock.

Thanks so much, Cyn!

Yeah, I’m kind of envying David and Regina’s jobs right now. I have to write proposals too, and my funders don’t first front me an all-inclusive stay in their luxury hotel, encouraging me to try out all the amenities so that I can improve my proposal. Must be nice. Note to self: Must check out the Fiesta Americana hotel chain.

Love the dress Julia is wearing.

Perhaps Julia and Art should first inform their spouses they are divorcing them and start proceedings, BEFORE playing kissy face at the beach. (Glad Julia at least has started the process of finding a trustworthy, meaning, can't be bought by Eladio, lawyer.) I guess Julia and Art got swept away by the memory of him proposing to her on the beach long ago. If/when Eladio finds out, Efrain is going to be in BIG trouble. How did he let Julia slip by him?

Erick’s friend suggested they go out into the middle of the ocean on his yacht. I guess those doofuses don’t think the cops can get him there.

Thanks Cynderella!! Lots of detail and I needed that. Fell asleep on the couch only a few minutes in. Long day...

Anyway, agree on the Julia/Art kissy facing. She knows she's being watched, what makes the pier any different? Just because you actually don't see anyone? Yeah...not the brightest bulb maybe. And Art is staying with his wife because of the kids; kids that are all over the age of 18. Whatever....

I'm on the Augie/Gaby train. Thought of them at the start of this. Why she is blind to Franco is beyond me...she had warning signs big time and you would think hanging with Julia would have taught her something. Love isn't just blind, it's stupid.

Maybe we get lucky and Erick falls off the ship?

Daisynjay

Another exceptional recap Cynderlla.

"Lucita thinks that Francisco is very handsome because she's only five years old" made me smile.

My hub went prematurely gray years ago. I am not sure how old Augie is supposed to be in this but I don't see more than a 10 year age difference between he and Gaby (if that). The man is hawt and those piercing blue eyes are magnetic. I sense chemistry between the two already.

Julia and Arturo tried very hard to ignite some chemistry and didn't do a bad job. To me though, chemistry isn't proven by wild kissing (alone), it's the subtle touch, gesture or glance that is emits a burning yearning.

"Love isn't just blind, it's stupid". Yes daisy, it certainly is, especially here in several cases.

Justino's already jealous! The not so nuclear family of Clara, Francisco and Lucita at the amusement park was cute but sort of a waste. I'm still scratching my head as to why some of these characters are here and frankly taking time away from more important ones?

Vivi, I've loved just about everything Julia has worn and almost nothing Nina has. But I must admit, Nina is a stunning woman who could wear a potato sack and look beautiful...

Thanks again Cynderella.

Diana

Oh yeah, Cynderella Style!

"Just stick to being Connie's friend and stop being so creepy"

"Francisco says no. He's to noble to eat"

Why does Eladio need Franco? He doesn't need a middle man for his own employee.

Gosh, Julia shares way too much with these kids and now asked Regina to keep something else from David. (great way to blow up her son's relationship) What the heck is wrong with that nutcase?

Speaking of the nut, that passionless sales pitch to Art was so awkward and lunging kiss resembled a "killer rabbit" attack. I saw much more heat as she woke from her amorous dream and gazed at Eladio's junk as he slept.

Let me keep picking on her. Julia for over two decades had plenty of time on her hands and yet hasn't done anything alone with her son since he was 16. I'm guessing she sent him away to boarding school. One of my closest friends was sent to Switzerland at 14 for boarding school and rarely saw her family in South America.

I am really disappointed in Auggie if he thinks Gaby is it (sweet girl but a girl). What happens if his swing misses? Will he wait another 20 years for a new crop?

Cynderella, sorry for misspelling your name the first time.

Diana

Thanks so much, Cynderella. Deftly done.

Just about everyone is being reckless these days... except, perhaps, for the puppet master himself – Eladio. Snap those fingers, pull those strings. hee hee.

In real life, Marco & Fabiola have a 10 year age difference.

Character wise, if Augustin is Arturo's BFF from back in the day, he's a smooth 20 years older than Gabriela; he knew Amanda. We don't know how old Amanda is but we can assume she's at least 38 years old...we don't know how old Gaby is supposed to be but we can assume early 20s, like the rest of the young characters. Julia herself is probably around 45 years old.

I don't have a problem with it; Gabriela will need a strong husband to go up against Humberto & Eladio. Franco is not it; I don't see Augie letting Humberto or Eladio push him around.

Now Julia will be going to jail and Eladio will "rescue" her, putting another roadblock between her and Arturo. Delicious!

Really Anon? Learned nothing from this weekend's discussion?

Anyway......I agree that I don't understand Julia and now trying to keep secrets with Gina, putting her in a tough position. If Art does the same thing then I cry shame on them and David and Gina should jump ship and tell them they are off to live their own lives. Seems these adults are using their kids, not " helping" or loving them to still further their own agendas. Julia still wants David to inherit and be buddies with Dad. Why the hell for?

As for Eladio and keeping Franco dangling...that is his MO on how he handles all those who are related or connected to him. He has to be the puppet master. The one in control. He'll never cut Franco totally free, and the idiot is too greedy to get what he think he's owed as Eladio's side kick to free himself. When he truly believes that he is also Eladio's son, holy moly. He'll go right after David.

Daisynjay

Thanks for a fantastic recap Cynderella! Your recounting was way more exciting than the episode itself. Other than Julia and Art slobbering over each other at the pier, Aldo and Chimp Boy's anonymous tip-offs to the police and the brief Auggie-Gabi conversation, this was mostly a repeat of what we already know, punctuated by several segments of Fiesta Americana sales spiel...

Yes AuntyAnn, Kirbo, Daisynjay and Diana, Auggie and Gabi do look cute together but I doubt any couple that comprises this hunk of burning love would look anything short of spectacula! He is older than Gabi (I think he's supposed to be 40-45 in the story just based on the fact that he knows Nina since she and Arturo got married) but look at those piercing eyes, that cinnamon skin, that gorgeous mane... This girl had better make up her mind quick or I'll karate kick her out of the way and swoop in for my silver-haired prince!

I agree with every word you wrote Tofie and I would even encourage you to pick on Julia some more! Personally, I had a hard time containing my revulsion during the Julia-Arturo scenes. I was rolling my eyes when she said that she must liberate herself from Eladio and no longer depend on him economically, then in the same breath she stroke Art's arm and asked seductively: “How about you? Did you decide to find your happiness?" *hint hint, nudge nudge*
It was funny though how she sneaked out saying: "Efraín's here!", leaving a dumbfounded Arturo wonder out loud: "Who is Efraín?". Me: it's the Papasito driver/bodyguard that we hardly ever get to see onscreen. Please producers, ditch Justino and the WTF gang and give us more of Efraín! Porfis, porfis porfis.

Speaking of the WTF family and friends (I agree Diana, get these filler characters off my screen!), can you believe Justino is sulking because Clara and Francisco are dating? Is he jealous for reals? But, Maribel isn't cold yet!!!!! I saw this love triangle nonsense coming a mile away but I was holding out hope that the writers won't be this lazy! Boooooo! Hisssssss!

Speaking of boo-worthy characters, the king of the bunch has got to be Obnoxious Arturo! He did zero looking for Chimp Boy that day, bugged the heck outta me throughout the episode and by the time he and Ditzy McGolddigger started exchanging spit on the pier, I was ready to hurl something at the screen! Thankfully, that beautiful song that I can't seem to find anywhere came on, soothed my anger and I started humming along: ♪ ♫ Quisiera regresar el tiempo y revivir lo que vivimos... ♪ ♫ But that was short-lived because Little Arturo had the gall to say out loud: "Forgive me for wanting to make you my woman right this instant! (that was euphemism for "let's get laid, sugar buns!")" Easy there horny tiger! I wish this class-A jerk stops giving himself angelic airs and embrace his inner A-hole. At least, Eladio is honest, what you get is what you see; he doesn't parade in society with Arturo's holier-Than-Thou attitude!

Forgive the ranting but I had to let it out!

-- A quote from the capítulo --

“Por extraño que te parezca, muchas parejas hablan de divorciarse y a la hora de la hora, se echan para atrás.” *

* Agustín imparting his wisdom and experience with Gabi, who oddly seems immune to his many charms (Run back to your weasel fiancé and leave this “mango de hombre” to someone who can appreciate him, for example, me): “As strange as it may seem to you, many couples talk of getting divorced but when push comes to shove, they back out.”

Extraño = strange, weird, odd, bizarre, curious, suspicious, unfamiliar. Depending on the context.

Parecer = to appear, to seem, to look like.

Pareja = pair (of people, things), romantic couple. When someone introduces another person as “mi pareja”, they mean “my boyfriend / my girlfriend / my romantic partner / my better half”.

A la hora de la hora = (or “A la hora de la verdad”) when it comes down to it, when push comes to shove.

Echarse para atrás = to back out, to backpedal.

Anon at 11:41 - I hope your comments on what is to come are sarcastic and not indicative of what will really happen (?)

If you are serious, that would have been a real spoiler and I hope that isn't the case.

Diana

Wow you guys really dont like arturo

Nandicta- The other use of "pareja" is partner, and not just in the romantic sense. For example, cops will call their partner "pareja", and not "socio" as is used in the business partner sense.

Thanks for the wonderful recap! Totally missed this episode last night.

Nandicta: Thank you so much for your vocab lessons. I've started to copy and paste into a word document to try to memorize.

I'm having a hard time mustering any sympathy for Julia or Art. As awful as Eladio is I feel more sympathy for him because he married a woman that didn't love him, driving him to madness, I think. Probably always a bad guy but there are signs of goodness too which makes him far more interesting. Of course, maybe I'm the only one that sees this in him!

Anon: that better not be a spoiler. Though if speculation, that would be funny.

Cynderella: thanks so much for the great recap. Now I don't have to watch the ep (except the Gaby/Augie scene--I'm sitting at the Gaby/Augie table).

Nanette

Was that really a spoiler Anon 11:41 posted?! I can't tell if it's legit or just a joke?!

just ignore the guy until it's taken down.

-- Mary: Love Jorge Salinas but can't stand the Arturo character, not so much because he does what he does but because he feels he is such a decent guy, so beyond reproach and so morally superior to everybody else, including his wife and his love/business rival. Personally, I am prepared to start liking him the minute he acknowledges and embraces his nastier side.

-- Vivi: Thanks for that addition! Much appreciated! I wish we could edit our comments.

-- Carvivlie: You're very welcome! :) As regards Eladio, I do feel sympathy for him at times because of the reasons you stated and also because he is not a cartoonish villain. He does what he does because of circumstances. I feel the same way about Nina, as flawed a character as she is, the way she's acting to defend her marriage is not outlandish or villainous by any means. I even found the exchange between the idiot siblings (Erick and Dani) kind of cute and endearing, the way Dani tries to protect her brother is something that resonates with me, having brothers myself and being prepared to do anything to protect them. This is what I like about this TN, there are no clear cut distinctions between good and bad. These characters are flawed, confused, self-centered, insecure, needy… they're human.

Vivi: Thanks for the info. Recappers have lives outside Caray Caray (shocker!) and can't always monitor on a regular basis.

Thanks for this superb illuminating recap, Cynderella. As ever, very well done.

UA,

"I doubt he will ever regret finding someone tougher to bully and destroy his daughter."

I can't believe that Humberto wants Eladio to destroy Julia since he surely realizes that she is his meal ticket. Her demise at Eladio's hands equals his own demise. He may be annoying to some but he is not that stupid.

I was disgusted before with the clandestine relationship between Arturo and Julia, but by enlisting the support of their respective children in their deception takes it to a new low.

Erick certainly needn't worry about his daddy finding him.

So Maribel has been dead for what, maybe 2 weeks? Justino joins Miguel and Agustin as inappropriate stalkers... not to mention the mutual inappropriate stalkers Arturo and Julia.

Carlos

Sad that there is always one tries to ruin it for the rest of us.

Well contrary to the spoiler Anony, I think Fernando Colunga is doing a fine job as the villain. He's always LOOKED like a villain to me. I tell you, I enjoy his Eladio much more than I enjoy Arturo. The only time I like Arturo is when he's with his family, including Nina, who IMO hasn't done anything divorce worthy except not being Julia.

Sure, she's a non-great mother, vain, vapid, silly, mean to Miguel & Consuelo, shallow, selfish, etc. But Arturo was fine with that until Julia came across his path. I have a problem with that.

Wonderful Cynderella---you NEVER disappoint.

Julia paroled---He's too noble to eat---Lucita thinks that Francisco is handsome because she's only five years old.

Urban from yesterday---Father and daughter in LQNPA and lovers in PyP. I never thought of that.

If Franco killed Montserrat, what was his motive?

Julia tried to hold back from Arturo but what's a girl to do? She wants that Arturo.
At least if she had him, she wouldn't be put on parole or have her "privileges" taken away.

I like the WTF family. they give us a break from going back and forth, back and forth between the same two families all night long. Putting in some sub characters adds a little depth to the story and broadens things out a bit. Just think about your own lives. Do they just revolve around 5/10 people? I know that I am in the minority and I guess that I will have to stay that way because I tend to like whole shows. I don't just pick and choose certain parts of them.

Nandicta---Holier Than Thou attitude of Arturo? ARE YOU KIDDING??? Ms Holier Than Thou nose in the air is none other than bruja Nina punto.

must see tv
the gringo

I don't think Eladio was driven to madness by Julia not loving him; that's just an excuse. He is an abuser and abusers look for victims. That is one reason that so many daughters of abusive fathers end up with abusive husbands. The other side of that is that on some subconscious level the abused daughter tries to "reform" this new version of her father. It's always doomed to failure.

Carlos, death is not the only way to destroy a person. What Humberto wanted in Julia and didn't get was a Stepford daughter. Eladio came along and was more relentless in his determination to destroy Julia's spirit and he has almost succeeded. If she would have committed suicide at any point prior to this both would completely lose it because Eladio would have lost his punching bag and Humberto his meal ticket, whom he still insults at every excuse he can think of.

Gringo, they were brother and sister in LQNPA.

Nandicta,

"...he feels he is such a decent guy, so beyond reproach and so morally superior to everybody else, including his wife and his love/business rival."

I've been reproached for suggesting that Arturo just might be the narcissist here, however that sounds like narcissistic symptoms to me. But hey, I'm just a family doctor... and retired at that.

Carlos

UA,

"Carlos, death is not the only way to destroy a person."

I don't think that I used the word death, but thanks for clearing that up.

Carlos

-- Anon207: "Sure, she's a non-great mother, vain, vapid, silly, mean to Miguel & Consuelo, shallow, selfish, etc. But Arturo was fine with that until Julia came across his path. I have a problem with that." In many ways, Nina and Arturo pair up beautifully and they complete each other in every aspect, including their bad parenting. Julia shows up and everything that was normal, acceptable and maybe even desirable in Nina magically becomes unbearable to Arturo. He starts belittling and berating his wife, looking for any excuse to get rid of her so he can pursue a married Julia who also happens to be the mother of the boyfriend of the daughter that Arturo claims to adore!

-- Gringo: I do like secondary characters and their side plots but I can't stand filler characters especially when they are given center stage for extended scenes and plotlines that go nowhere. Maribel was a prime example of that. What was the point of that woman in this story? They could've started PyP with a recently widowed Justino and we would not have missed a beat or, better yet, they could've discarded Justino and his family altogether. I would even go as far as get rid of Clara and Francisco; only Gisela is truly useful to the plot. What I said about Efraín was a joke at first but giving it more thought, I think he and El Callao could've been developed more as secondary characters. Same thing goes for Petra and Simona (that sweet lady that works at the Gómez Luna household). I would have loved to see more of and know more about this foursome, beyond the one or two-line scenes they usually get. That's my personal opinion on the WTF family and friends but I'm genuinely glad that you like them, because if we're stuck with these characters till the end, some of us might as well get some enjoyment out of it. :)

As for Nina's having a Holier-Than-Thou attitude, please allow me to respectfully but vehemently disagree on this point. If anything, what I like about Nina is that she fully flaunts how much of a shallow, self-absorbed, snooty, bitchy socialite she is and how she is prepared to go after what she wants and defend what is hers without showing any scruples. I like people who are honest with themselves. Arturo walks around with a halo around his head, bemoaning Eladio's nasty ways, lamenting his "losing" the love of his life and commending himself for all the "sacrifices" he has to make to keep his family together. Boo-friggin-hoohoo. Like Susanlynn said #SorryNotSorry.

I have to say that those defending Nina against Art have a point. She's colossally selfish, but as others have stated, if Julia hadn't entered the picture, Art wouldn't have a problem with it. For me, Art is like Alejandro from Robo, a supposed galan I can't like (though Ale was way worse--raping his wife and all).

Gringo is right everyone! Just skip reading those comments altogether, let alone engage with the troll. That rabid little thing will tire eventually of barking and foaming at the mouth.

The only way I can justify Art's behavior is by thinking that he disconnected himself off from his wife and family for many years and once he saw Julia he realized that the life he had dreamed of for himself was far from the one he was living. A crash back down to reality and a desperate need to set things right has opened his eyes, and whereas in the past he would go blind to that which he didn't want to see, now that he engages with Nina and the family he doesn't like what he sees.

-- Carlos: I'm with you in that diagnosis. And in addition to being a retired family doctor, you are also Caray Caray's resident physician and funniest photo captioner!

Carvivlie: makes a lot of sense, but I still don't think it's fair to Nina. For 20+ years they've been, at least, content together and now suddenly Nina is all wrong and he wants a divorce.

Nandicta and Gringo: you both are right. However, the blatant disregard of the spoiler rule is bad enough, but it makes my blood boil when someone gets on here and starts talking smack to or about one or more of our family.

Agree Nanette Art's behavior to Nina isn't fair. I think he is angry with himself and taking it out on her.

Nandicta---Shallow--self-absorbed--"snooty"--bitchy socialite. You said it and those are the reasons that I can't stand the bruja and also the fact that she despises Regina and praises the two bad apples Eric and Dani. Yes she will defend what is hers. That is so true and I see a battle royal coming between her and Julia. That isn't a spoiler, I wouldn't want to do that. It is just so obvious. Nina is not going down without giving it all that she's got. I think that it soon will get explosive and I can't wait to see how things will shape out. I can't even begin to wonder what Daniela's reaction will be when she sees her father Arturo and Julia together. Fireworks X 10.

-- Carvivlie: You make a valid point, however setting things right would also have involved sitting his wife down and having a candid discussion about the state of their marriage. He should have been man enough to tell Nina that meeting Julia awakened feelings he thought were dead, that he no longer loves or tolerates his current wife and wants his freedom to pursue somebody else's wife at any cost, including the happiness of his daughter. As selfish and brutal that may have been, at least it would've been courageous and honest. In life, mistakes get paid but Arturo doesn't want to pay for his. He wanted to have his cake and eat it too then vie for Eladio's cake and play with that cake's feelings, all the while acting like he is the nicest, kindest, most wholesome thing since sliced bread. I wish I could muster some sympathy for this character but I can't. As much as I like JS, I can't get onboard with this character he's playing.

-- Nanette: I'm sorry you got upset but we can't give these trolls the satisfaction. This is exactly the kind of result they're looking for, to upset us and spoil our fun. The best course of action is not to engage with them or stoop to their level of vulgarity; our Mamas raised us better. Eventually, this vermin will slither back under whatever mouldy germ-infested hole he crawled out from.

-- Gringo: You know what? Please save me a seat, I'm impatient for the fireworks to start! I can't wait for Nina and Julia to start pulling each others' extensions! Arturo is no prize but still, the two women fighting over him will be good for our entertainment, especially if Dani and Gabi sling mud from the sidelines! :D

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. I hope I got all of the spoilers. Some people have nothing better to do...I guess. Oh well. I'm at work and I can't monitor this as closely as I should. Sorry about that.

Cynderella: No worries. We all know that recappers have lives away from Caray Caray.

Thanks Cyn!

The intro music reminded me if something, and I finally figured out what it is...Mad Men as we watch the guy freefall out of a skyscraper.

-- Cynderella: Please know that we greatly appreciate all the time and effort you dedicate to recapping and comment monitoring. De veras, muchas gracias. :)

I know my reasoning is faulty when it comes to Art and Eladio but making allowances is the only way I can stay interested in these people.

Not your fault Cynderella. You are doing your best. We will simply ignore what they have to say since they are truly a waste of our time. Someone is trying to prove a point, but too stupid to realize how sad and ignorant they look in the process.

As for our resident four "adults", frankly, I don't think any of them are worth being totally sympathetic to. TO me, it is their behavior, their selfishness, their concern on possessing, status and money that has messed up the lives of their children and the younger people connected to them. And poor, dear, sweet, gorgeous...excuse me, Auggie is caught in the middle. I'm not sure we are supposed to be 100% in any of these adult characters' camps...they all need a major dose of a good slap up the head and a personal loss that will rock them to change their ways. Scares me about that is does it have to be a child to get there?

-- Carvivlie: Actually, your analysis is very accurate, it is I who just can't empathize with Arturo, that's all. The way we react to characters is very subjective and, to a certain extent, conditioned by our life experiences. Personally, I can't stand people who play with other people's feelings and juggle several love interests, especially within the confines of a committed and serious romantic relationship. That's why I find Arturo's cheating with Julia more reprehensible than Eladio's cheating with Montserrat, even though the first pair never got physical. I realize my reasoning will seem flawed and inconsistent to many here but I can't help feeling this way.

I have no sympathy for most of these people. People have to be responsible for their actions . This whole mess is the result of a lot of folks making very bad decisions. Augie seems to have a brain , and poor guy has to put out fires 24\7 for Art and family.

I am still wondering where the Clara\Justino\Frwncisco storyline is going.

Thanks Nandicta, I'm blushing. Would that you had been commenting during CI.

Thanks Cynderella...Always love your to the point remarks "pervs" and noting that "Francisco is too noble to eat". Yep, those "ahorros" are going to go awfully fast if he's spending his days at fun parks buying overpriced treats. But we get it, writers, Francisco is a GOOD character.

I agree that Augustin is yummy-looking but if he objects to Gabi not knowing Franco very well, why is he himself setting his cap for her? HE doesn't know her very well either. All we have seen are a few conversations. And honestly, hate to say this, but I find her almost as vapid as Julia. She listens to her tia, she smooches with Franco, but other than that I don't see much to wave the pom-poms about. She may indeed be deep, principled and noble...but the writers haven't shown us that. So she just looks like a twenty-something in short short skirts, which granted can cloud the thinking of any red-blooded male.

And also don't understand Julia's outrage over Eladio's relationship with the dear departed Montserrat. She made it clear to him she wanted no physical relationship with him. So what did she expect? That he live a monastic life? Not likely.

Really don't understand the setup here of how the writers expect us to cheer for Julia and Arturo. I sure can't. Wonder how the Mexican audience is reacting to this?

-- Susanlynn: I think it was Anita who, a few episodes ago, speculated that Justino was probably switched at birth with Franco and that's why we have to endure his otherwise inexplicable presence in this show. Truth be told, I don't see the point of Justino, Clara or Francisco. If they needed a roomate for Gisela to interact with when she isn't stumbling drunk at GLA or squeezing Eladio and Franco for money, they could've gone with Petra! Imagine what great scenes we would've gotten with Petra and Gisela rooming together and Simona living in the same neighborhood with Efraín as her son. Efraín's love interest would have been El Callao's daughter whose life Eladio saved. El Callao's daughter would've been working as the secretary/receptionist at "Fundación Luna Contigo"… Excuse me, I'm off to write my alternative PyP! :D

-- Carlos: I gotta confess that I saved many of your CI screen caps into a Word Document for when I need an instant pick-me-up! I haven't read all your recaps from CI but the ones I did were insanely funny! My absolute favorite screen cap (I'm chuckling just thinking about it) was a picture of a perplexed Sergio Goyri and the caption: "I was told there would be a monkey!" Really, I, I can't! Jajajajajaja :D Thank you for all the laughs!

-- JudyB: "I agree that Augustin is yummy-looking but if he objects to Gabi not knowing Franco very well, why is he himself setting his cap for her? HE doesn't know her very well either. I'm not prettier than Gabi but I'm more interesting and verra verra interested in him! :)

"HE doesn't know her very well either" and exactly why I thought Augustin silly to pin the tail on that donkey. Tell the truth Augustin you looked at her boobs & butt and mattered not one bit even if she had an IQ of 10

Judy,

"...why is he himself setting his cap for her?"

It's what cradle robbers do.

But as I recently said, I'm just a retired family doctor... oh yeah, and also a father. I imagine that Arturo might be a little more critical had he set his cap for Dani or Regina.

Carlos

Nandicta.. "And that 's why Auggie should get to know me better." Ha ..I liked that. OT...If you like romance, you must head straight to YouTube and check out the two season two trailers for Outlander. ..verra, verra romantic! Augie Who?

Nandicta..The only reason that I stayed with CI as long as I did was Carlos's captions. They always gave me a giggle!

News Flash:

I lost internet access for a while today so tonight's second hour will be a little late. I'm going to work on it after having a bite. Please advise whether you'd like me to add it to the first hour (which will publish after the entire broadcast) or put it up as a separate discussion.

I think there is meant to be irony in the whole interaction between Gisela and Eladio. She holds a major secret about him and he was buying her silence. However, the revelation is going to blow up both of their lives because Franco could find a way to get even with him if he keeps his cool and gets help from someone a bit more experienced than he is.

Secrets are a recurring theme in this story:

Consuelo's (from most people): Prostitute mother/raised in a brothel before being in the orphanage
Arturo's (from his family): That he had a great love before her plus his secret meetings with Julia (First now known but not the second... yet)
Julia (from Eladio): Secret meetings with Arturo
Eladio/Gisela (from everyone): That Franco is Eladio's illegitimate son
Gisela (from Caridad): That she sold Franco to Eladio for a monthly allowance
Monserrat (from Eladio): That she was cheating on him with Chimp Boy. This is probably what got her offed.
Eladio (from Julia): All his affairs and crooked deals (she now knows about the first but not the second)
Erick (from Consuelo): His affair with the Rat (which is now out in the open)
Miguel: His love for Consuelo (no longer a secret from Arturo, Regina; Erick seems to know)
Gabriela (this is a maybe): That she's boinking Franco
Franco: That he is cheating on Gaby with Marintia
Maribel: That she was dying (known only to Clara)

There are varying levels of self-interest involved in everyone's withholding of information except for Maribel's. She did not want to burden Justino and Luisita with grief. One could argue that she didn't want to deal with their grief in the last days of her life, but I don't think that of her. I think this is what the WTF family has been about.

Of course, if somehow Justino and Franco were switched in the hospital or something we have to wonder whether Gisela knows. That makes Justino her grandson. If she knows she has been sticking it to Eladio all these years and is having a good laugh at his expense (in more ways than one). If she doesn't know (no DNA testing at the time) the joke is on her. I don't care which it is because both deserve a kick in the head like this.

Caridad, however, doesn't. I wish she would show up already.

"Caridad, however, doesn't. I wish she would show up already." So do I!! What a dust up that will be. Plus, I like the actor.

WELL I LOVE THIS SHOW thank you cyn for the recap
Nandicita- you are probably right about arturo but i still cant root for eladio either i mean remember how david came to be i cant forgive that. I think that all this characters are humans and we make mistakes so i dont judge them too harshly we are all flawed too

-- Susanlynn: I'll start watching "Outlander" this weekend. It'll replace one of the two "Cuna de Lobos" episodes I customarily watch on Sunday. Can't wait! :)

-- UA: Great list! Now that you enumerate them, there seems to be an awful lot of secrets that we know but other characters don't, not to mention the secrets that have been withheld from us and are yet to be revealed (like Eladio's past, his relationship with Caridad, the significance of their respective tattoos, Nina's acting career, Arturo's arrival to Grupo Montenegro and whether the accusation he made to Eladio for embezzlement was true, Clara's origin, Justino's raison d'être in this show).

-- Nanette: Can't wait for Caridad to show up and for Franco to find out he's Eladio's son. More fireworks to look forward to!

-- Mary: Welcome to the PyP patio, please make yourself at home! Glad to see a fellow African here, I'm from Morocco! :)

Nandicta..Wheeeee..Cannot wait for your reaction. Then, you MUST read the books.

I'm reasonably sure that the embezzlement was real. Eladio has demonstrated in business that he doesn't give a flying damn for anything except profits and he also doesn't care whom he hurts. The whole thing about building condos on land that couldn't support them is a good example.

As for his past, his tattoo, etc., I wonder whether the writers even have decided that.

One more thing: Except for Julia who has the misfortune to have Humberto for a sperm donor, none of the leads have living parents. Arturo seems to have been an only child and we have seen no relatives from Nina's side. We don't know why. Eladio has no blood relatives we know of other than Franco. This is similar to LSdP and is probably for simplicity's sake unless they want to complicate it later by saying that Eladio and/or Nina has an unsavory past.

Cynderella, thanks for a good short recap.

Most of this cast is suspect. It seems that everyone has something hide. And the murderer, I wouldn't be surprised if its the ol geezer in the motored Wheelchair, he's evil enough to do it. But the Liars keepa lyin and frightened keepa jumpin.
And the skeemers keep manipulating. What a
Mess. So lets see what happens tonight. Now. 2 hours. O boy!!!!!
