Pasion y Poder #63 & 64 Wednesday, January 20, 2016
Julia asks Art what he needs. Art wants to talk with Julia, but Nina interferes and tells Art that there is no need for him to talk to Julia because she is there to take care of the auction of the car. But Art says he is not there to talk about the car. Nina asks Julia to speak with Art alone. After Julia leaves Nina wants to know what the hell Art has to talk about with Julia?
Gaby wants to know what's up with Franco and Gisela. And why is he asking about Caridad? Why doesn't he want Gaby around her? Eladio walks in on the argument and wants to know what's going on?
Art tells his wife that it is none of her business what he does anymore and he doesn't have to explain why he needs to talk with Julia. (Oh no he didn't. He is still a married man!) Nina realizes that there is another woman, it's Julia! And Art wants the divorce so he can get Julia back. He says he wants the divorce because he is not happy with her. Nina says she loves him, won't insist anymore. She just ask that he have the decency to wait til after their divorce before he goes looking for the other woman.
Franco gets Eladio to understand, through facial expressions, that Gaby wants to know about Gisela and Caridad. Eladio goes into his speech about how he used to help Gisela and Franco would help him too. Gaby should not doubt Franco. And Gaby should stay away from Caridad because you never know about those ex-cons. Gaby assures them that she will be fine.
Outside the foundation, Nina vents her anger over the phone with her friend Fanny. Fanny reminds Nina that her plan was to stay near Julia to avoid Art and Julia getting together. Nina will have to continue being a fake because She won't let Art get away with it. She needs to avoid a divorce. Fanny agrees and adds that she needs to at least wait til the pre-nup deadline is past, so if she does get divorced she will get half of Art's money. NIna insists that she is not getting a divorce.
Eladio and Franco meet in the home office with the door closed. Eladio wants to know why Franco went to see Caridad. He tells him he wanted to know why she was in prison, but never found out because they ended up arguing. Eladio tells Franco that Caridad was in prison because she killed her husband.
Nina comes into Julia's office. She says that everything is fine between her and Art now. Julia is not convinced. Nina admits they have been having problems and Nina thinks that since Julia has known Art for such a long time she is the best person to help Nina win Art back. Julia does not want to get involved. NIna asks "doesn't she want to see him (Art) happy? Or is because you have feelings for him?" Julia acts offended. Nina apologizes. Nina asks Julia if she wouldn't mind taking care of the car raffle.
Franco asks Eladio the details of why Caridad killed her husband, but he doesn't know them. They are both worried about Caridad being close to Julia and Gaby. Franco does not want Gaby to know the truth.
A police detective visits Eladio at home. Julia and Eladio are still suspects in the murder case of TheRat, therefore they cannot leave the country. Eladio asks the detective to not bother his wife, he will take of anything the police needs.
Art and Nina argue about Julia in their bedroom. Art wants the divorce, Nina doesn't. Art wants to let all the kids know that they are getting divorced.
Clara and Caridad arrive home with Gisela's ashes. Clara tries to comfort Caridad, then leaves to get some food. Franco arrives and sees his mother crying. He demands that she resign her position at the foundation. He does not want her near Gaby or Julia. She wants to work to be able to offer him something. He does not want anything from her. He is embarrassed to have a murderer for a mother.
Julia arrives home and is talking with Eladio. He tells her he does not want Caridad working at the foundation. He says she is dangerous. Julia says there is no way she will fire Caridad.
Franco does not let Caridad clarify why she killed her husband. She was going to explain everything to him, but then her mother died. Franco renounces Gisela as his grandmother and Caridad as his mother. We see that Clara is listening outside the door.
Julia and Eladio argue over Caridad. Eladio offers to get her a job somewhere else. He asks Julia to at least think about it.
Caridad tells Franco that she killed her husband to protect him because that man wanted to hit him. He tells her not to mix him up. He tells her she is worse than Gisela because she is a murderer. She goes in to give him a hug, and he accepts it for a second but then turns her away and leaves, without seeing Clara. Clara comes in and comforts Caridad.
The Montenegro's get together (minus Miguel) and Art announces that Nina and him are getting a divorce. Dani says they can't. Erick reminds Art that he has always told him to fight for his marriage, so now it's his turn. Nina tells the kids she still loves Art, and that it's all his idea to get a divorce. Dani wants to know why, and whether or not there is another woman.
Caridad talks about her fears with Clara. She's afraid that Eladio will kick Franco out. She does not want to make Julia suffer. She will not resign at the foundation. Caridad tells Clara to please keep quiet about what she heard.
Art announces he does not have a lover, but it has been a while that he and Nina are not getting along. Nina insists it's all on Art. Art says he is only informing them of what is going on, and that the decision has been made. This is between Art and Nina. Connie leaves. Dani says that the kids opinions obviously do not count. Erick does not buy Art's explanation. Art says, sorry, but that's the only explanation he has and he leaves the room. Erick tells his mom he is sorry, and he hopes she now realizes that he can't win back Connie. Regina tells him to stop. Nina tells them that there is another woman, and she will soon have proof. Erick, Dani and Regina comfort their mother.
Julia and Eladio spend another night together.
The next day in the Montenegro home office, Regina and Connie talk about how they miss Miguel and how the house will never be the same. Connie thought that Art and Nina were the perfect couple. Regina leaves, but Connie stays. Miguel shows up to pick up some of his stuff. Connie feels bad that he left the house because of her. He says at least they are co-workers. She is bothered that they are no longer close. She misses him. He says he thinks that even though she won't admit it, she feels the same way he does and he goes in for the sister-in-law kiss, and she accepts it.
David is telling Gaby about him being deceived by Regina. She tries to comfort him. He hates that it's over, and it's going to take alot to move on because he loves Regina. It will be a long time before he gets over her. Gaby tells him to focus on work. Gaby asks if David was bothered by Eladio giving Franco shares of the company. David says no, but what bothers him is that Franco feels he needs to compete with David. He tells Gaby that if Franco is her happiness, then he is happy for her.
Connie breaks away from the sister-in-law kiss and says she shouldn't have let it happen and that it was a mistake. (But she doesn't seem too pissed off at her brother-in-law for kissing her, hmm...) Miguel says she can hate him for loving her, but he does not regret it. He leaves.
Regina and David run into each other. Regina tries to walk away without saying a word. David calls her on it. They argue about being loyal. He tells her that he knows she spilled the beans to Ashmore. She says she knows he's been talking to Dani. Regina can't believe all the bad things he's saying after she went and defended his construction company. David is confused. Regina explains that she told Ashmore that the Tabasco problems were not their fault. David apologizes, but Regina says he should have asked her first instead of accusing her. She says it's better this way because the trust is gone. She leaves.
Erick comes into the home office to talk with Connie. He wants to work things out. He thinks they can be happy if they are away from everyone. She's not sure. He proposes that they stay together til the baby is born, and if by then she still doesn't want to be with him, then he'll leave.
Julia brings breakfast to Eladio's office. He says they look like newlyweds. He wants to start from new. He wants to win her back.
Clara and Caridad talk over breakfast. Caridad is sad not have her son by her side. She asks Clara what Franco is like, since they work in the same office. Clara tells her that Franco thought he was Eladio's right hand man, til David came back. Caridad asks if Franco is mistreated, and Clara tries to change the subject.
Julia and Eladio flirt and compliment each other. Julia thinks she needs to make her own money. Eladio doesn't seem to like the idea.
Clara says that Franco seems jealous of David. Caridad asks if David is mean to Franco, but Clarita says no, it's the other way around, it seems that Franco doesn't like David. Caridad realizes that Eladio has always mistreated Franco. Caridad can't do anything to help Franco because then the truth will come out and she doesn't want to hurt Julia. She thinks that Julia must be really in love with Eladio, and now she understands why Eladio never left her. Clara thinks she should concentrate on getting close to Franco.
Eladio doesn't think she should work. She already does so much at the foundation. He offers her a position and salary, but it's exactly what she doesn't want. He is getting very nervous. She doesn't want to keep depending on Eladio economically. She asks him not to opppose her, but to support her. She wants to show him what she is capable of and she wants to feel proud of herself.
Franco wakes up in Marintia's bed. He showed up drunk last night. He was yelling absurdities. He does not know how he's going to explain not coming home to Gaby. Marintia says that he said his mother was a murderer. She wants to know what else Gisela told him. He tells her that Gisela is dead. He tells her that Caridad is his mother and that Gisela was his grandmother. He tells her to keep her mouth shut. She says they are in this together. If she goes down, so does he. He better tell her everything, and he does, except the part about Eladio being his dad.
Eladio needs time to digest the fact that Julia wants to be economically independent from him. He can't change overnight. They start to argue again about Caridad working at the foundation. Eladio suggests that they ask Caridad if she wants to work there. Julia agrees but asks for some time. She wants to help Caridad find her lost son.
Franco tells Marintia that he does not know who his father is. He can't let anyone know who his mother is. It would cause problems with his engagement to Gaby. He calls her to excuse himself for not making it home last night.
Eladio lets it slip that he knows Caridad was in prison for killing her husband. Julia wants to know how he knows. Gisela told him, he says. Julia thinks she would have reacted like Caridad and defended her son. (Eladio is so nervous, he bends a metal spoon with his hand)
Dani, Regina and Nina talk about Julia being the cause of their divorce. Regina doesn't believe it, because last she heard Eladio and Julia were working out their marriage in therapy.
Franco gets home and Eladio asks where he was. Franco blames Dani. Eladio covers for him when Gaby comes in. Eladio gives him the morning off.David runs in to announce that Regina is innocent. Franco and Eladio don't believe it., either way they lost the contract. Eladio wants David and Franco to get along, they shake on it.
Regina blames Nina's jealousy on the break-up. Nina lies that she considers Julia a friend. Regina tells her mother that Dani is after David again. Dani lies and says that her and David are going to give it another go. She convinces her mother that it's a good idea to have David as a son-in-law because that would mean that Art and Julia would not get together.
Marintia and Franco discuss David's new project.
Regina talks to Connie about David not trusting her. Regina asks if Connie is still hurt by what Erick did to her and she says no. And that's what worries her. She tells Regina that she feels nothing for Erick anymore. He has insisted that they get back together and she simply feels nothing. Regina is glad because she knows how many opportunities Connie gave to Erick. Connie tells Regina that Miguel kissed her.
Miguel is going to talk to his father at the corporate offices, but Erick comes in and interrupts them. He has learned of David's new project and wants to know what they're going to so to stop it.
Caridad is at the foundation playing with the children outside. She talks with Gaby about Franco. Gaby praises him.
Connie feels bad about what happened because on paper she is still a married woman. Regina is going to have a talk with Erick because he should know that Connie will never respond to his love. (Connie looks guilty).
Franco asks Eladio to gift him and Gaby an apartment from the new project in Santa Fe as a wedding gift.
Julia visits David at work. He shows her the new project. David misses Regina.
Eladio doesn't want to feel pressured. He tells Franco that he has millions with the shares he gave him. Eladio reminds him to stay quiet or he will lose Julia's affection and Gaby too.
Regina scolds Miguel about the kiss. He couldn't help himself. He thinks Connie feels the same. They talk about Art and Nina's divorce. Miguel thinks that Art never loved his mother or Nina because Julia is the love of his life. Regina refuses to believe it and goes back to the subject of the sister-in-law kiss. Art comes in and overhears this. Art doesn't want Miguel, or any of his kids, to suffer for love like he did. Regina realizes that her father still loves Julia and warns him that if he divorces her mother for Julia, she will never forgive him.
Julia visits Eladio at his office. She tells him about her encounter with Nina and Art from the day before. She is afraid of telling him anything having to do with Art and Nina. Eladio is sorry, but is trying to control his jealousy.
Art denies being with anyone. Art scolds Miguel for his behavior with Connie. Regina leaves the office and runs into Erick in the reception. He gives her money to buy baby cloths on her trip to give to Connie on his behalf. She tells him she won't do it and to get a divorce. Erick says he will never divorce Connie.
Art tells Miguel to forget about Connie. Does he truly love her? Art says he does this to protect his grandchild. He doesn't want Miguel pretending to be a father to Connie's baby.
Nina visits Connie at work and asks if she's going to give Erick another chance.
Eladio has a therpay session and talks about Julia wanting to get a job. He's anxious because his two baby mama's are going to be working together. Eladio thinks he can buy the company where Julia will work to keep an eye on her. The therapist tells him no.
Gaby tells Julia that she thinks that David is jealous of Franco. Julia talks about not wanting to be near the Montenegro's, especially after Nina and Art get a divorce. Franco is listening outside the door.
David goes to see Dani. Regina walks in and overhears him.
Julia confirms that Nina and Art are getting a divorce, and she could care less because she is trying to work things out with Eladio.
David clarifies that he is there to know why Dani told Franco that Regina talked with Ashmore about the Tabasco project. Dani plays innocent. Regina tells David that it was Nina that talked to Ashmore.
It is late and Art is still at the office. Auggie tells him to get rest. Art asks him for something, but we are not privy to that yet.
With a huge smile on her face, Connie tells Clara that Miguel kissed her. Clara tells her to divorce Erick and stay with Miguel. Connie says she can't, or shouldn't. Besides she needs to think of her baby. She knows what it's like not to have loving parents. She's worried about being a bad mother. Caridad arrives and Clara introduces them.
Dani tells her mom that David went to see her. Nina tells her that she needs to get close to Connie.
Caridad, Clara and Connie have dinner. Caridad leaves them to go rest. Clara tells Connie about Caridad's past, including her son. Connie asks about Francisco. Clara says she doesn't miss him like she thought she would.
Miguel and Regina discuss Dani and David over dinner. Miguel tells her that se might still have an opportunity with David.
Eladio tells Julia about his therapy and tells her that he's OK with her getting a job. David storms in to tell his parents that Regina is innocent and that it was Nina who spoke to Ashmore. Eladio and Julia think that David needs to forget about Regina because he is suffering too much over her.
The next day at the office Franco tells Eladio that he overheard Julia tell Gaby about Art's divorce. Art is the one who told Julia. Eladio is irate.
At work, Dani brings Connie some decaf and asks for some modeling advice. Connie promises that if she is serious about it, she will help her out. Dani apologizes for being a b**ch since she met her.
Eladio demands to know when Art told Julia about his divorce. Franco does not know. Eladio storms out to go look for Julia. Marintia asks what happened to piss off Eladio. With a perverted smile on his face Franco says it's not what happened, but what is about to happen.
Auggie goes to the Montenegro mansion to tell Nina that he is representing Art in the divorce proceedings. He is there to go over the terms of the divorce and get it done as soon as possible.

Recap is up. Hope you enjoy. Please comment if I got anything wrong or if I left something important out.
I might not have time to comment later today. I still have to get some sleep and then go to work. Hope everyone has a great day!
Hasta Pronto!
Well, as concerns Consuelo and Miguel. Everybody else they know is sneaking around or lying about something, they may as well join in and go for it.
Connie: I have an idea, ask Miguel to come over and hook up your computer in your new apt. Then nail him to christen the new place. He aint gonna get you preggers.
It is amazing, she is not showing one tiny little itsy bitsy bit. :-)
Franco stirring the pot & watching as chaos ensues!
(Oh no he didn't. He is still a married man!)
What is Consuelo's problem? Let the poor guy alone. Is she so starved for attention she'll hook up with her brother in law? I wonder how Olan Mills sorts this out for a family photo.
Despite the reason, Eladio offering Caridad a higher paying office position with one of the companies generous and if Julia really cared about her would encourage she take the opportunity.
Caridad gives Julia way too much credit for raising Franco.
The use of the prenup is stupid but I'll consider in this wacky world you can dismiss a wife and mother of 25 years on the eve of expiration. What decent man would leave her on the street or even threaten it? We'll see what Augustin proposes tonight to make Nina go away.
I give up trying to keep up with David & Regina, both were delusional. Lets say Daniela didn't want David and graciously told Regina to have at him, it still happened. Every time either of them saw or heard Daniela's name mentioned the knife would twist.
Brilliant move by Nina suggesting Daniela want help from Consuelo with a modeling career. My esteem for her rises.
Consuelo is so desperate for a real family she got married too young without knowing who Erick really is. Her thing about the baby having two parents would be fine if he were a decent human being but he doesn't want to change. I can easily see him pulling the "If you really loved me you'd trust me to handle your finances" when attempting to get the shares Arturo will give her for herself and the baby. As soon as she does he will kick her to the curb as Nina wants him to, after which he will demand custody of the baby (if it passes the DNA test). Nina is a monster for this. I can see her messing with the DNA results, something that hasn't yet happened here.
The idea of divorcing one brother for another is definitely cringeworthy, but probably less unusual than we realize. Based on Clara missing Francisco less and less I am wondering whether she will get Miguel and Consuelo will end up with Francisco.
Regina is not delusional about Daniela. She knows what her nasty brat sister is like and that she will always try to take away whatever guy she has. That's all she is about. We know that David doesn't want Daniela, but it's that other cliche of timing that muddies these waters. Nina will be another factor because she is willing to believe Daniela when she claims to love David.
As far as the pending divorces go:
Arturo/Nina: Nina has no dignity if she insists on fighting this. I know from the experiences of divorced friends that if one partner wants a divorce, the reason doesn't really matter. If that partner is determined it is undignified to try to stop it. What is the point of continuing a marriage where there is no love?
Consuelo/Erick: He doesn't respect her at all. We don't know how long they're married (only that they're probably still too young to be married already) and we didn't see whether or how Nina's immediate hatred of her affected him. Which means that in addition to being too young he's too immature. She will be far better off without him.
More in a bit.
Grey bedsheets (Gomez-Luna): I suppose they exist, but I've never seen grey bedsheets before. Since they're the color of most of Eladio's suits does this represent his control-freak stuff or the grey areas the authors planned on creating in this marriage?
Red trousers (Miguel): Clearly this is about showing us that he isn't a corporate "yes" man or even a corporate politician. I'd ditto this with David's wardrobe of cable-knit sweaters and no suits or ties.
Ties:
Eladio's knotted ties look awkward. The knot looks too tight and we can see the twisted tie leading into the knot. His dry cleaner and maid must think he doesn't know how to tie one correctly after all these years. All the other male characters' ties are neat, symmetrical full Windsor knots.
Zippers and Lace
What's with the easily visible rear zippers on the dresses? This looks really declasse, which Nina is, but she's committed other fashion felonies. I think this visible zipper thing has also appeared on her Mini-Me, Daniela.
The lace hem on Marintia's skirt is completely inappropriate for the office and it also looks strange. Is this some fashion trend lately?
What is bothering me more about this is Regina's reaction. She is against the divorce. This is actually not unusual from what I've seen and grown children older than she is and living away from home are not immune to this. She has to give up the illusion that this was a happy marriage. She also has not yet learned that nothing she does short of betraying Arturo and becoming the same vapid creature Daniela is would please Nina.
Thanks for yesterday's recap, UA.
Just this, to me it seems improper for Agustin to be representing Arturo in these divorce proceedings since he appears to be the lawyer for the company in which Nina apparently holds 25% of the shares. Of course I have no legal expertise.
Carlos
Zipper: Nothing says "It wouldn't take any effort to get this off me, Big Boy." like a glaring full length military grade zipper that looks like it should have been on a 20 man tent.
Ties: Eladio must be letting the boys on the loading dock at Home Depot tie his ties for him. That tie is atrocious. It looks like an arm on a long sleeve shirt when my washer is in a bad mood.
Lace. That seems to be a new fashion thing the Hoochies are doing now. Dani wore something which was clearly above crotch height with a band of lace around the bottom to bring the perceived length down to plain old skank length. Being a red blooded ball bearing dog, male chauvinist pig, I know it is so wrong, but I still like it.
Thanks for the recap, love the way you zero in on facial expressions, you caught some looks that I missed.
I think, like real life, the Montenegro divorce will be a sad mess where no one comes out without emotional scars. I kinda dread watching it.
Can't wait for Erick to get into his "penthouse" apartment. He will be preening like a parakeet. I predict poor Connie will be walking in the front door for a "company shares" meeting as the newly acquired Ratt leaves via a bedroom out the back!
Arturo blinded himself for a long time to her vapidity, selfishness, and vanity. I think he worked too many hours to notice what a bad mother she was when the children were young. Now that they are legal adults Nina can't hide it anymore. Erick and Daniela have caused major problems already and we know that's not going to stop. There is stuff about her past he doesn't know (based on a conversation from last week) so she is in no position to bitch about him having concealed a past engagement.
What is now obvious is that our more mature characters all married too young as well as for the wrong reasons. There is no fixing either marriage.
Kirbo, those explanations make sense and also were amusing!
I don't think there is one detail you missed with your sharp and observant eye for detail!
Arturo does not love Nina and he is being honest about that. But Julia's made it clear (well fairly clear as there were several ardent kisses bestowed) she is going to try and make it work with Eladio. Art is willing to shed himself of the wife he's been with many years, seemingly without regret. He may run a few degrees warmer than Eladio but is still very cold. And becoming increasingly so.
Arturo feels he can make Julia love him again. I am not convinced.
Diana
tofie--"Eladio offering Caridad a higher paying office position with one of the companies generous and if Julia really cared about her would encourage she take the opportunity." I agree, if he didn't have ulterior motives. As I recall, Caridad was hired through a special program for ex-felons, to make their transition to life in liberty easier. I got the impression Julia's foundation did not have to pay her salary--or her whole salary. If Eladio is willing to hire her, the better for her. However, Julia is already hooked--line and sinker come later--by Cari's story and the emotional attachment they clearly feel already (sort of a false llamada de la sangre).
It's funny, how everyone wants to be close to Julia now.
Besides, she knows Eladio's ulterior motives and the writers are setting up the big reveal that will blow up this faux reconciliation and send Julia to a divorce lawyer.
Bottom line, Art had no unmanageable issue with Nina until he spotted his old flame. I'm not buying Art had no idea who his wife was or wasn't for twenty five years.
As to Caridad, I don't think she needs a transitional job for more than a few months. She's not yet accustomed to normal human interaction. I don't remember who said she was apprehensive out in the neighborhood, but she needs time to lose that. She doesn't want to be under Eladio's thumb.
P.S. I noticed Clara stating she didn't really miss Francisco as much as she thought she would. True, she's had more emotional turmoil around her since he left and Caridad to concentrate on, but she needs to have him back. She tried so hard to get him to notice her and now he's just a memory? Justino and Luisita are less in the picture now. Hope it stays that way, at least for awhile.
UA--I think we're all waiting for Julia to find out about Franco. We're going to have to start keeping score--how many people know of Franco's antecedents. When the story opens, it's only Gisela and Eladio. Caridad only knows her son is supposed to be with Gisela, but is told he is a fisherman and spends his time away on a boat.
Franco - now he knows who both his bio-parents are
Marintia - now knows who his maternal line is
Gisela - Dead
Caridad - she knows both side of his genetic make-up
Clara - as of last night, she knows the whole story
Gaby and Julia have both been told to stay away from Caridad. I don't think either one intend to. Gaby may have more questions about motives than Julia (that ex-cons are dangerous).
Who wants to guess the next person to find out--Gaby or Dani?
" She just asks that he have the decency to wait til after their divorce before he goes looking for the other woman."
For me Arturo hit a new low last night. Julia asks him not to call her or seek her out. She's trying to make things work with her husband.
What does he do? Rushes right over there.
Yikes man. All you do is preach to your kids to keep their marriages together, protect the future grandchildren yada yada yada, and you're still chasing down the reluctant Julia, before the lawyers have even been called.
Whether dignified or no, the offended not-wanting-to-divorce spouse will always fight to hold on to the marriage. And ultimately this is good. When it's all over (and it will be) the rejected spouse can at least say "I did everything I could to hold it together. But it didn't work. There's no 'unfinished business'."
If you don't fight, you're left always wondering...maybe if I had just tried harder, we might have been able to salvage it.
So it takes a some clinging, some fighting, some maximum effort to change and do better...to then, once and for all, let the marriage go as a lost cause.
Marriage should not be casual and neither should divorce. It's serious, and painful, both emotionally and financially, to break up a family, regardless of the age of the kids. Fighting to hold it together is perfectly understandable...even if futile.
So, while not a Nina fan, I perfectly understand her motives for trying to hold on. And to regain the relationship that they once had before Julia re-entered the scene. I agree that it's futile. Arturo is clearly out of there. But given that just a week or so ago they were canoodling and re- honeymooning in New York, one can hardly blame her for being stunned and angry and in a this-ain't gonna happen mood.
Ok, for Nina it has always been about money and social position. True, she had to go through three pregnancies to cement it. The rest was EASY: keep Art satisfied sexually, look good and not be an embarrassment to him at important functions (or that is what we have been shown). Everything was in control.
Control started to slip out of her hands with the Regina-Josh debacle when Art publicly took Reggie's side. Then came the Erik-Consuelo pregnancy and rift, Dani's hotel prank, Montse's untimely death, Art becoming more distant, the Julia factor, and suddenly her marriage became WORK.
I think she's kept her cool beautifully, keeping her children on her side and behaving like the truly injured party (no boyfriend on the side). I don't like Nina much due to her treatment of all her children, but I love watching her operate.
JudyB, a friend of mine ended up divorced after 23 years with her wasband. The only marital asset was a house and it was refinanced and put in her name (and it ended up in foreclosure two years later). There was a two or three year period before that where they lived under the same roof in separate bedrooms and at one point she actually told me that she got on her knees in front of him and begged him to love her.
It's a good thing she told me this over the phone because I was cringing. I questioned whether that was a good move which was not what I was tempted to say. If someone begs to be loved that's a guarantee they won't be. It shows a lack of dignity, which is a death blow to respect.
He married again about three years after the divorce and she is now bitter and alone. She didn't make an effort to get over this and while it's no longer the #1 topic of conversation she is still focused on "the other woman" and wondering what she did wrong. Knowing about "the other woman" (who may not have existed) wouldn't help her because she fails to realize that her own passive/aggressive behavior (and his) was a major contributing factor.
UA..I think that gray has been a popular decorating color for a few years a!though it is not a favorite of mine.nI have seen gray sheets , and I have a platinum gray comforter. As to that very noticeable back zipper, I have seen it on some women on TV but nothing real life.
Anita, that was a good analysis of all the folks David is dealing with, and I agree that he needs his bff.
Regarding Eladio's tie into, hub noticed and disapproved as he was passing through the living room one night. He is a Windsor knot guy. Eladio probably wants a distinct look because be feels he is not an ordinary kind of hombre. P.s. I am still waiting to hear about that HUGE tattoo.
As to divorce, I have never gone through one, but I know people who have. I friend just settled $400, 000.oo on his wife who is an alcoholic. They are both in their thirties and have a seven year old son. Very sad. She is back in rehab again at $1000.00 a day.
I also know people who have tried to "save" their marriages in some way..a new house for example....a baby...did not work. You cannot make someone love you, and I would not want to be with someone who does not love me. Better to move on. Either NIni really loves Art, or she lives his $$$$ and does not want to lose her life of luxury. As far as she is concerned, life married to Art and his $$$ has been great.
I've been waiting for you.
OT This came to me in my Word-a-Day. I thought immediately of you. (Only slightly altered)

1. From French, From French, literally, without knee breeches. In the French Revolution, this was the aristocrats’ term of contempt for the ill-clad volunteers of the Revolutionary army who rejected knee breeches as a symbol of the upper class and adopted pantaloons. As often happens with such epithets, the revolutionaries themselves adopted it as a term of pride. Earliest documented use: 1790
2. From French, English translation: Without Capri pants. Frequently documented use: 2012 in Amores Verdaderos, Spanish-language telenovela from Televisa.
My guess is that if you are Old Money and get a divorce there is no problem. If you married into Old Money you may get out with a good settlement, but you will no longer be welcome within that circle.
I think Nina fears losing that on principle because she doesn't seem to enjoy it as much as she says. She likes walking into galas in gowns she thinks are elegant, but she doesn't like the other people. She fakes it all the way. What she is afraid of is the shame of being outside of this after she's been in. This is actually almost more important than the money to her, since she hasn't been spending it like a sailor on shore leave.
She also can't handle the idea of any man walking away from her for anyone else. Daniela gets that from her but takes it a step further. Her only victim at the moment is Regina, which means that situation has the potential to be so much worse.
UA...I am so sorry that your friend is still bitter and focused on blame. It often takes a lot of therapy and empathetic listening for people to heal from those losses. Especially as it sounds as if she was left penniless. Therapists are good if you can afford them, because frankly, friends certainly get tired of listening after a while!
Anita...I too am enjoying watching Nina operate. She first seemed rather flimsy intellectually but she sure is making the right moves to appear indeed, victimized, and unfairly treated. Also very shrewd in trying to make an ally of Julia. A worthy adversary for a husband who can't wait to get rid of her. We'll see where this goes. She's got powerful street smarts if nothing else.
Okay. Rant over!
OT..Anita..That is so funny. Cynderella and I were both very interested in the prepositions as to Big Ed Yanez moving the leading lady around the room. Cynderella had to explain to me the reason Miss Vicky never wore capris.
OT . Also, Outlander is filming the last two episodes of season two , and rumor has it that Brianna has either already been chosen or will be chosen soon. Season two starts in April. The two leads have announced that they are not dating in real life which seems to have devastated some shippers.
I also wonder about his mother. I don't recall hearing a word about her, but I can bet his father abused her. Did she die when he was very young? Did his father kill her and was he a witness? I wonder if the writers have decided this yet.
What about that spray stuff? I wonder whether it's something medical, like for a genetic respiratory problem. Could he have been a sickly child whose father abused him for it?
FC is thinner than usual in this series and the grooming job on him is brilliant for this character. His hair is thinned out a little on the sides, enough to make his ears stick out in a very unflattering way. Also his eyebrows are groomed to make him look meaner.
At least I think that's how the story went...
Back to colors: Why do all the young female characters have to have pink cell phones?
Re: the divorce - I don't think Regina is against the divorce per se. Arturo had already spoken to her about it when he told her he was thinking of leaving the house. Her reaction at the time was not to the divorce, but to the fact that if he left, she would be left alone with the sharks, at which point he agreed to stay until the divorce is a done deal. Since he had already told Regina all about how he couldn't take Nina anymore and the marriage couldn't be fixed, she was NOT surprised when he announced it to everyone, but she DID join her siblings in comforting their mother. Later, when Nina said she thought it might be because of Julia, she said it couldn't be because Julia really loves her husband and was doing everything to work on her marriage. It wasn't until later in the office when Arturo was reprimanding Miguel about Consuelo that Regina figured out Art is still in love with Julia, at which point she told him that if he divorces Nina BECAUSE OF JULIA she would never forgive him.
Regina is not against the divorce, she's against the divorce "for the other woman," and in this case, specifically for Julia.
Urban---I don't understand what it is with Windsor knots only. I can tie them but usually don't. I don't feel that a tie knot is all that big of a thing. I consider
the tie itself and how well it goes with the suit to be FAR more important than the knot. Windsor's are nice but so are half Winsor's and I have absolutely have nothing against the Four-In Hand knot which I often use.
Urban---Yes Nina is a gold digger and a social climber. Strange that she accused Consuelo of the same, which Consuelo is not.
Anita---I don't like Nina much due to her treatment of all her children, but I love watching her operate. ---Read my late comment from yesterday. Operate? She hasn't even started to operate but since the divorce has now begun, her operation will switch into high gear. Will she end up with Consuelo's shares? My guess is yes.
Julia is trying to fix her mirage with Eladio and get things running smooth but when she finds out the truth about Franco, she will be in Art's arms faster than we will believe.
By the way---Franco is quite a mover isn't he? He's playing three women right?
must see tv
the gringo
AND buy her a car.
Yes, Franco is a player like his father, but with one important difference: At least he has the consideration to give these chicks a good time in bed. I'm sure he's also using protection. Can't wait for Dani's review.
For Nina to accuse Consuelo of being an arribista is not strange. Narcissists always try to dump their faults on others because they refuse to take responsibility for them. Her hatred of Consuelo is particularly intense because she was a successful model who socked away some dinero from it and because she can pass for Old Money. Nina still doesn't despite being married to Arturo for almost 25 years.
Carlos
Mirage--what a great image. If we are to believe the earlier Julia, speaking either to Gaby or herself outloud, she definitely wants to leave Eladio with her life in tact and able to support herself.
However, either the therapy is really opening Julia's eyes to what a great guy Eladio is and never gave him a chance - OR - she's playing a very dangerous game of setting him up to believe she's giving it a sincere try. Fluttering her eyes, snuggling, talking sweet, seductive goodnights--well, she is a great actress--so, is she acting here?
gringo--I did go back to read your last comment. Yes, indeedy, the War of the Roses (aka Gomez-Luna) is about to begin.
The lowest thing he did yesterday was send Auggie in to start the process.
He is honest ... NOT!
... faithful ... NOT!
... loyal ... NOT!
... understanding ... NOT!
... patient ... NOT!
and a loving father who treats all his children equally ...
... definitely NOT!
wait a minute ... there must be something ... Aha! I got it ... he is Jorge Salinas!! Yes! That's it - that's the only thing it could be!
No parent treats all his/her children equally. That is next to impossible because their personalities and issues won't be the same. However, neither of these two men does and Nina doesn't either. Julia probably treated David and Franco as close as possible to equally when they were children but they diverged at some unspecified point later on and Eladio openly favored Franco. And I would say that his dishonesty in bringing Franco into his home and having Julia be a mother figure to him for 21 years without her knowing that he's his illegitimate son is a far greater deception than Arturo not telling Nina about a prior romance with a woman they'd had no contact with.
Carlos---What is it that makes Arturo such a great prize? Sorry you misdiagnosed it
doctor. I hope that you don't loose the patient. The fact is that Julia fell in love with Art from way back when and although he did her wrong and many years have passed since then, she has never been able to totally suppress her love and desire for him. It's as simple as that punto.
the gringo
Regina has not yet given up the illusion of her parents' marriage being solid.
I mean he's too busy cheating on dumb Gaby with Martinita!
BTW, Nina referring to Miguel as a "bastard" is yet another demonstration of her narcissism. Arturo was married to Miguel's mother before he was born. That makes him legitimate. She is trying to pull a Henry VIII to make out that Erick is the only legitimate first-born son so he will inherit everything. Which is not realistic in the modern world and which he also doesn't deserve.
Thinking about it, I wonder how much interaction he had with Franco as a three-year-old and on up through high school, based on the strained relationship between Eladio and Julia. Raising him was probably Julia's function.
You are right, the two boys' goals diverged at some point. David wanted an advanced degree and we presume Franco didn't. Eladio favored Franco--he was there in the household. Furthermore, Eladio believing David was not his son would have had an effect on his treatment of David.
As for Franco, I wonder if bringing Franco into the business, Eladio didn't really see him as his "SON" any longer. He saw him on a daily basis as a young man, grateful to have been raised in their home and having the privileges of a godson, ambitious and willing to do his idol's bidding. He became a trusted right-hand man, rather than his illegitimate offspring.
OT--I miss hearing Placido sing at the Kennedy Center with the WNO.
He's already pissed off everyone inside the Gomez Luna Prison!
Franco sure threw Julia under the bus, didn't he? Not only that, but he relished doing it.
Disappointed that Clara said that she did not miss Francisco as much as she thought she would. Will Francisco ever come back? He's still in the credits so I hope he does return.
Tonight should be good. Can't wait.
I strongly doubt that Eladio can forget his blood tie to Franco in view of the fact that Franco is more like him than David is. I also doubt that he really doubted that David was his son. That was just a weapon to control Julia with. Since she was unable to have more children after David was born (This was mentioned once) it had to have been doubly hurtful.
Since the police have come back telling Eladio not to leave town, the investigation is ongoing. I hope it doesn't take too much longer for us to find out who did this (unless it is proven to be an accident like Tania in MIVAC) because the way Televisa writers have been behaving in the last couple of years I will still be wondering whether they have made up their minds or not.
I support Nina the wife. She's been married for 25 years and Art didn't start making rumblings about being unhappy with her until, what, a few months ago and now goes straight to divorce? Without marriage counseling, trial separation, legal separation? You go Nina. Stand your ground.
Connie and Miguel -- snooze.
I don't know what is wrong with me, but I'm really starting to dig Eladio more and more. It's some perverse thing I have, that I melt when I see he and Julia together. I'm sure that isn't the intent of the writers, but right now, I want them to save their marriage. It could be that FC is just a better actor than JS, but Eladio with Julia has much more sparkle. The way he looks at her, the tender threading of his fingers through her hair *melt*
When I see Arturo with her, I see a man who is arrogant enough to think that just because he was her novio once, he should have her back. He had his change 20+ years ago and blew it for Miguel's mother and on that premise alone, I don't want him to have her. I'm really pissed at Artie boy.
As for Nina. If Art doesn't love her and it's pretty clear he doesn't, then she needs to pile what dignity she has on her behind and make tracks. Ask for a very nice settlement, alimony or whatever, go to a spa and then start dating again. I'm not going to hold anything against Art for suddenly deciding he wants to be free of her. It happens..people grow and change and it's unfortunate but he's being honest about it with her. What he needs to do is leave Julia alone though. She's asked for space and to respect her decision to work on her marriage...HER choice.
I'm just not feeling Miguel and Consuelo. I don't think they are a fit and there is no spark. All I can think now is Auggie's big manly body around her tiny frame. *fans self*
I just want to give Caridad a huge hug. The actress is playing the hell out of her role.
I think Franco feels something for his mother..he doesn't want to, because like his father he has been taught to be guarded and leave emotions out of things. I think Franco wants a mother, especially now knowing who his father is.
We don't know too much about Julia's mothering of Franco. I can't imagine she mistreated him. There's no indication that she was anything but loving. I can understand Caridad feeling gratitude to Julia. She obviously never rejected him.
I really enjoyed the little scene with Eladio bending the utensils. Julia's reaction to it was priceless.
I don't think MF is unattractive, but I agree with you and my husband, I think SG is extremely beautiful. She has a soft and luminous beauty to her.
PS. I actually don't have a wife to leave for Susana...er Julia, excuse me, but it sounded cute I thought.
