Pasion y Poder #72 & #73, Wednesday, January 27, 2016

A message to the patio. Univision squeezed (edited and cut) in episodes #72 & #73. The recap is what aired on Univision on Wednesday night.

At GM, David goes to talk to Art. Art tells him to stay away from both his daughters. David insists that he loves Regina and the only way he will separate from her is if she asks him to. David advises Art to accept their relationship if he doesn't want to loose Regina.

Connie is telling Miguel that she can't believe that she has to wait to divorce Erick. Miguel comforts her with a hug. The hug turns into smooching.

Art is about to kick David out when Regina comes in the office. She asks David to leave her alone with her father. He waits outside the office. Regina and Art argue about her relationship. Regina asks Art if he wants to divorce her mother to get with Julia. He says he's getting divorced because he no longer loves Nina. Regina says that's a good thing because David's parents are very happy together, besides Regina doesn't think her father would do something like that. HA!

Miguel and Connie stop smooching. Miguel is overjoyed. He knew that Connie felt the same way. He will not pressure her and will do anything for her. He kisses her on the cheek and leaves her office. Connie is so happy she can't wipe the smile off her face.

Eladio and Art run into each other. Art argues about David. Regina and David are there too. They are all together because they are going to announce the winner of the hotel contest. Surprise! Regina and David won! They will each build a hotel in Monterrey. Art gloats that with this win and Ashmore's contract he is sure to win the presidency of the Builders Association. Art also tells Eladio to warn David to stay away from Regina. Eladio refuses and warns Art that he is willing to support their relationship.

At the foundation Clara arrives to donate Gisela's cloths, and Gaby receives them. Clara asks Gaby how sure she is about marrying Franco. Gaby says she is sure. Clara asks if she's the jealous type. Gaby says she's a little jealous, but Franco is not capable of cheating on her. Clara tells Gaby that she found out that Franco gave his brand new sparkling car to Marintia, and when you get a gift like that it's for something. Gaby is stunned. Caridad comes in and overhears.

David makes breakfast for two. Regina comments that he will have to cook when they live together. He says he's happy to cook for her everyday. How sweet! Seems as though Regina is going to move out and it makes David sad. She says it's better because she doesn't want David to have problems with his father. Franco told Regina that Eladio was not happy about the relationship and that was why Eladio gave Franco those company shares.

Clara is sure of what she is saying. Her friend Justino saw with his own eyes when Franco gave Marintia the car. Gaby leaves to confront Franco. Caridad tries to stop her but she can't. Caridad gets pissed at Clara for spilling the beans. She worries about getting poor Franco in trouble.

David and Regina go to GLA. David goes to look for Franco. Regina runs into Dani. They argue about their favorite subject.

Miguel goes to talk to Art. Miguel tries to convince him to accept Regina and David but Art is not budging.

At GLA Regina reminds Dani how she helped her when she woke up in that hotel with a passed out stranger. Eladio interrupts Dani and Regina. Eladio likes that Dani is on time and they go into the building. Regina is in shock.

Marintia and Franco meet outside. She warns him that David is there looking for him and is in a bad mood. She thanks him for the car just as Gaby walks up to them. Gaby wants to know if it's true that Frnco gave this slut a car.

David tells Regina that he can not find Franco. David tells Regina that his father hired Dani. Regina is pissed. Her father had warned her that Eladio would do something to get back at them for losing the Ashmore contract.

Franco tries to explain to Gaby but she doesn't want to hear it. He tells her that he sold the car to Marintia and she plays along, saying she will make payments to pay for the car. Caridad comes into the conversation and backs up Franco's stupid story. She tells Gaby that she left the foundation without giving her a chance to explain that she heard Franco and Marintia talking about the sale of the car.

David tries to calm Regina down. She says if they do not communicate, things are not going to work.

Caridad makes up some story of being in charge of Franco's paperwork and she was in charge of the car sale paperwork. Franco tells them that if Gaby doesn't know him well enough to know how much he loves her, then nothing they say will make her change her mind. He tells Gaby that maybe it's better that they break up and leaves. Marintia swears that Caridad is telling the truth and follows Franco inside. Caridad comforts Gaby. Inside Franco tells Marintia that they need to be more careful. He worries that Gaby will want to break up with him for real. Marintia is fine with that. Franco warns her not to fall in love with him. She tells him she already did.

In a cafe Caridad tells Gaby she needs to talk with Franco. She is sure that Franco loves her. ShutUpCaridad!!!! Gaby is not sure. She already caught them (F & M) once being very chummy with each other. She has alot to think about.

Eladio talks with Dani. He tells her to understand that David chose Regina. Dani thinks her personal life is separate. Eladio wants her to leave David and Regina alone. They go over her contract, which of course she did not read. She is exclusively working with GLA. She cannot model for anyone else. Once her contact is over she can not work for the competition for two years. She is now the image of GLA, so she can not be involved in any scandals. Eladio brings up the hotel and the passed out stranger. Dani plays stupid. If she does not abide by the contract she will have to pay millions of pesos. Dani is upset because he didn't tell her all of this. But Eladio reminds her that he told her to read the contract before signing.

Art tells Miguel that they need a good campaign for the hotels. He gets a call from Auggie. Bad news. Since they got married in NYC, if they get divorced, Nina automatically gets half.

Dani claims to have read the contract, but doesn't understand why what she does on her own time matters. Eladio tells her "welcome to the real world!" She has to abide by the contract. If not, then they have a problem.

Art is furious! He can't believe that Nina might be able to get half. Auggie also tells him that the problem with the pre-nup is that they signed it in Mexico, days after getting married, which might not make it valid in New York. Art tells him to find a solution because he is not willing to lose half his fortune. He hangs up with Auggie and starts venting to Miguel. He keeps going on and on about how hard he worked and that she would be taking away the kids inheritance. Miguel wants to know why they got married in NYC. Art tells him that they went on a trip to NY and got married there on an impulse. Then he says that Nina insisted they get married there. Miguel and Art think Nina may have purposely wanted to get married in the US.

At GLA Franco tries to get Julia on his side about what happened with Gaby and Marintia. Julia promises to talk to Gaby. He calls her Mom, then she leaves. Caridad walks in and Franco wants to know why she helped him out. She says because he is her son and she will do whatever it takes to help him. Even if she has to lie. This does not mean that he will love her. She tries to get close to him. She tells him to stay away from Marintia.

Dani goes to see Art. She rubs it in his face that she now works for Eladio by showing him a video of her campaigning for Gomez Luna.

Franco tells Caridad to butt out of his business. Caridad tells him to choose the woman he loves so he can be happy. He tells her that he won't take advice from his father's lover. She slaps him and tells him to stop judging her. He tells her never to touch him again, and reminds her that she is there to work. She will complete her work, but she will also do her work as a mother with him.

Art can't believe it. Dani went to his enemy. He will not let a Montenegro promote a competitor's hotel. She says that she already did and this prompts Art to get up and raise his hand to slap her, but he stops, mid-air. He wants to know why she is doing this to him. She says it's the same he has done to her. He had her cleaning the house and serving coffee. She gloats to him that she can do it on her own. And has a very well paid contract too.

At the GL mansion Gaby tells Julia that she's not sure about Franco. She thinks that Franco has been cheating on her with Marintia.

Nina's lawyer tells her that the pre-nup might not be valid. Nina is happy. But he warns that this might take some time.

At GLA, Art goes to see Eladio about contracting Dani. Eladio tells him that he should have valued Dani more. When she becomes a famous model she will thank Eladio for it. Art thinks this is payback for winning the Ashmore account. Art doesn't care how much it costs, but he will find a way to get Dani out of that contract. Eladio says he will go to the press about what Dani told him. That Art treats her like a servant. Art could care less, he just doesn't want Dani working for him or close to David. Eladio says great, he is sure Regina will be greatful for that. LOL! Good one Eladio! Art warns Eladio that he will not destroy his family. Eladio thinks that Art is the one destroying his own family, and is getting a divorce to go after his wife, that doesn't, or never will love him. Art says "we'll see". Eladio asks Art if he's leaving or if he wants to be escorted out.

Nina goes to see Julia. Nina is there to apologize. Nina thought that Art loved Julia. She told him to give her what she wanted and she would step aside so that he could be happy with Julia. But he told Nina that he didn't love Julia enough to lose everything. Nina was willing to give him the divorce if he left her everything, but he told her NO WAY! Julia sees Art's point of view. She asks Nina to leave and never come back. Hummy rolls in and interrupts the fight. Nina tells Julia that her father went to her house to tell her that Art and Julia were together at the beach. Hummy gets nervous. Julia tells Nina to leave. Julia warns her that she will get security to kick her out. Nina tells her to calm down. She kisses Hummy's hand and leaves. Julia asks her father what he did and he says "Nada."

Gaby and Franco talk. He tells her that it is clear that she does not trust him. He knows that he can't start a new life with her if she doesn't trust him. She thinks the same, so it's better that they break up. She hands her ring to him. If she wants to break up he will respect her decision. But he feels bad that they are breaking up over something that isn't true. It is now clear to him that Gaby didn't love him the way she said she did. He leaves the room while she sits and cries. Simona comes in and tells her that Auggie is there to see her. She tells Simona to let him in. Franco runs into Hummy in the hallway upstairs and tells him to be happy because he and Gaby are not getting married. Auggie comes in and has a gift for Gaby from his trip to NYC. She can't accept it. She asks him to leave because she does not want her uncle to see him. She can't believe that he actually came to the house. He can tell something is wrong and asks her. She tells him that she and Franco broke up. She wants to be alone. He wants to help. He tells her that she can count on him for anything and he leaves with his gift.

Regina is getting ready to leave for Monterrey and is saying her goodbyes to Nina. Art comes in and announces that he could not cancel Dani's contract. She tells him that she will keep in contact about the project. He asks her for a hug. He tells her that he insists that she break up with David because he loves her. Dani comes and asks Regina where she's going. Regina tells her that she's going to Monterrey with David.

Eladio and Julia are making their way to the bed but are interrupted by Hummy. He tells them that Gaby and Franco broke-up. Gaby walks in and confirms it.

Marintia comes to see Caridad at her home. She wants to talk woman to woman. Marintia says she knows that Caridad will understand her because like her, she fell in love with a person who was not available.

Dani is furious about Regina going off with David. Nina tells her that Regina can make her own decisions. Dani says that Regina and David are going to live together. Art says it won't last. Nina thinks otherwise. In fact she talked to Julia about it when she went to her house. Art asks why she went to see Julia. Nina argues that Art goes to see her whenever he wants without any explanation, so she sees no reason to explain to him either. Dani leaves before the fight gets worse. Nina tells him what her lawyer told her. He argues that she never worked for anything. She claims they were a team. While he worked at the office, she took care of the house and kids. He denies this, saying "look how they grew up." She not only cared for her children, but also for Miguel, because Art never moved a finger for him. Art doesn't think it justifies what she's asking for. She says you like it or not I deserve half of everything. It's the least she will accept to give him the divorce. He tells her to prepare for a fight. She is ready for whatever is coming. He warns her that he won't make it easy. She says until now she has been very understanding, but if she has to fight she will. He has no idea who he married. On the contrary, he says he knows who he married. She is the one that doesn't know who she's messing with, or what he's capable of doing.

AuntyAnnn- Absolutley fantastic recap. I'm really enjoying this reversal of roles for Eladio and Art.

Loved how Eladio schooled Dani in how things work in the real world. He might actually teach her some discipline! Also loved how he stuck it to Art.

Art needs to stop meddling in Gina's love life, and fix his own.

Great Aunty Ann, you hit all the important points and then some. Thanks for your hard work, when the yelling starts, I stop understanding the dialogue...and there was plenty of yelling last night.

I'm so thankful the cat's out of the bag with Franco and Gaby, but Auggie almost fell to the ground in front of her, that was a strange, strange moment.

Franco had a bad smirk when Caridad lied for him, will they be reconciled, but with lies? That's not the reconciliation the patio wanted, I'm sure. We wanted her to save him (impossible?) not fall to his level.

AuntyAnn- Thank you for such a wonderful recap of last nights events.

Surprised that both Regina and David won the contest. I guess it was better things happened this way. That way both fathers can be happy.

Wasn't expecting this turn of events- so the prenup may not valid in New York.

Great scene with Daniela and Eladio. The clauses don't sound too bad. They aren't anything that you wouldn't expect in a contract. Kinda felt bad for Arturo when Daniela went and stuck it to him that she's working for GLA.

Glad that Clara told Gaby about Franco giving his car to Marintia. Also, glad that Gaby and Franco ended their engagement. Hope it lasts.

I'm annoyed with Caridad for defending Franco and lying to save his butt. But loved the slap she gave him when he continued to judge her.

"Look how they grew up" when Arturo mentioned the kids!

The Montenegro family has serious ISSUES!

Meanwhile, Eladio Gomez Luna is sitting back & enjoying the show!

Thank You so much Aunty Ann. I don't know how you do it, but we appreciate it.

Is it beanie time, for a sexatary to "BUY" a quarter million dollar car? The same girl who begged for her job weeks ago because she is sending money home to her family in Argentina? The writers are asking a lot of us to pretend to believe that a girl like Gabi could feed and cloth herself while being mentally deficient enough to buy that load?

Did anyone else notice that they tried to cover Dani-Ho up for her commercial?
A nice clean white pants suit, very professional------with her big plastic boobs about to escape out of her top?

I am enjoying Eladio 2.0. I catch myself holding my breath afraid all that 'saved up' nastiness will suddenly escape like a burst balloon.

I deduct points on Caridad. Lying is lying. Lying to help a bad person hurt a good one is even worse. I don't care what her sobby-assed motives are.

Great one AuntyAnn, thanks a bunch.

"Regina runs into Dani. They argue about their favorite subject"

"ShutUpCaridad!!!!" Ok, while I really don't care about Gaby, Caridad lying for Franco too much. This wasn't like he hit the bar on the way home and a few hours late, he gave another woman a car! Thankfully Gaby broke up.

My god, what the hell is with this Auggie creep.

Kinda glad Eladio will instill discipline in an otherwise out of control teen. Eladio is stepping up to parent, with carrot and stick, the mess created by Nina and Art.

Gracias, AuntyAnn.

Daniela just put her neck in the noose with this job with GLA. Eladio isn't going to put the moves on her, at least right now, but his contract is something she can't live up to. It's fairly standard as far as exclusivity and the morals clause although I've never heard of that cash penalty thing. With her history of scandals it's only a matter of time.

Not to mention that her name in the ad campaign will cause financial problems for her family. People will wonder what made her go to work for a competitor and effectively endorse his company. This doesn't just hurt Arturo, but everyone. Of course, she doesn't give a crap because of all the perceived wrongs she has dreamed up.

I'm envisioning a drug-induced end for her. Of course before we get there she will cause a scandal and Arturo will be stuck with the bill per her contract. Eladio planned this when he made the decision to hire her. He knew about the guy who almost died in the hotel room and he had to have been spying on her, since I don't recall David telling him about what happened.

Nina's barging into the Gomez-Luna home was disgusting but the one good thing that's coming of it is Julia knowing that Humberto continues to interfere.

Finally, there is something I'm not understanding which is why would the divorce happen in NYC when the Montenegros are citizens and residents of Mexico? Each country recognizes the marriages and divorces of the other.

More later.

Thanks so much for another excellent recap AuntyAnn. Well done.

The CCs were awful Monday night but quite good last night. The way that has been happening makes me believe that the company that provides the CCs has one inept employ (their own version of Erick or Dani?) that rotates amongst all the TNs so we're doomed to have this person providing the CCs from time to time.

Well Arturo's supporters must have been very proud of their guy last night when he raised his hand as if to slap little Dani. Now I'm getting worried for our Nina. He said there's no way that Nina's going to get half. Could he be capable of...? Yikes!

As for Agustín... Gack!

My favorite scene last night was Nina's visit to Julia and her daddy. What a delightful treat. I loved watching Julia and her wheeled papa squirm.

At first I thought that Franco gave Maranita his new yellow sports car, but I think from what I could gather later was that it was his old car.

UA, thanks for your opulent recap for Monday's episode. Rich and informative and greatly appreciated... especially since the CCs were so awful.

Carlos

Tofie: Um, Miss Gabriela, Mr. Augustino is here to see you. OK let him in.
Hi Gabi, what is wrong, have you been crying?
Yeah, I just broke up with Francofurter, the marriage is off.
Oh, I'm so sorry(that I wasn't here even earlier).
I was in New York and I thought about you(r legs and ass, for sure not your mutt face) and I bought you something.
Oh you shouldn't have.
No here you deserve it I hope you like (this edible underwear from Victoria's Secret)it.

WTF is with these stalkers in this TN?

AuntyAnn, you did a marvelous job of conveying all the action and angst of last night.

"They argue about their favorite subject" and "ShutUpCaridad!!!!" were among my favorites.

Eladio certainly bested Arturo last night. Engaging Dani (obviously not sophisticated or knowledgeable enough) into signing a likely iron clad contract was inspired. Millions of pesos? I suspect this will not turn out well. And as Julia is doing everything to make the marriage work, he (rightfully) believes she is impervious to Arturo's charms (at least for now, so he can taunt Arturo thusly. He's pretending to accept David and Regina just to stick the knife into Eladio's back just a bit deeper.

I was thrilled that Gaby actually broke up with Franco! Can we dare hope it lasts?? While I wish Auggie hadn't chomped at the bit (actually, he did kneel down in front of her Sandy - you were totally right), I admit I was curious to see what was in that little red bag.

I also had hoped Caridad would be a positive catalyst for change for Franco. I was sorry to see she is defending him when he is wrong. That is not the support he needs. She is giving him kindness and love but encouraging his wayward path in recklessness.

Art is married to Nina. Art loves Julia. Nina loves money.
Eladio is married to Julia. Julia wants to love Eladio.
Gaby and Franco were engaged. Gaby loves Franco. Franco loves no one.
David and Regina are in love. Dani loves David.
Consuelo and Erick are married. Consuelo loves Miguel. Erick is nuts.

Thanks AutyAnn!

Diana

Carlos: The yellow car vs his old car. I wondered about that in an above post. Your theory sure makes sense, but they were not very clear about it. If that is the case, disregard my above rant.

Auntyann, thank you for this very heated &
Hate filled recap. There seems to he more
Passion than power in this soap. Artty & Elad
Keep trying to one up each other, using kids,
Wives, business, who and whatever they can
Get there hands on. And they are passionate
About using their so called power for what
Ever reason.
Artty brought this mess on himself. If he had
Kept it zipped he might would still have juls.
But nooooo, he had to spread the seed. And
Miguel seems to be a sweet young man. I
Wish he'd met connie first, cause now its a
Messed up mess. Just like dear ol dad.
Eladio seems to be riding high but he should
Watch out his anvils are numbered.
Dani is going to cause a tsunami in this tale of power and misplaced passion.
I know carra is tryin to help her baby boy, lyin only comes back to bite in the but, and cause
All kinds of unwanted stress. But this show is one big bowl of stress. Thank God for good
Happy Endings.

Carlos, you're welcome.

I don't get cc's on the internet and it's just as well. The TV that died on me two years ago was just old enough not to get them and that was also OK. If I was watching with cc's I'd not have learned as much as I have. I'm almost at the point of turning off subtitles for Italian opera when I'm in the Met but sometimes the soprano notes make it impossible to decipher what's being sung so I have kept using them.

Diana, I'd make one change to your list:

David and Regina are in love. Dani loves torturing Regina about David.

Daniela loves no one. She is young enough so that she could still learn but she doesn't seem to want to. Eladio is going to crack the whip over her to whatever degree he can and enjoy it, but the millions of pesos (I don't recall hearing how many) will come back to bite her on the tush. It will wreck any chance she has for a career and it could cost Arturo more than he can pay out without selling the mansion.

Daniela has very creepy eyes.

Thanks so much, AuntyAnn! Fabulous work!

So the prenup was actually a postnup, huh? And after a nup, you're pretty much left to face the music, aren't you?

I had a brief fantasy of Humberto's wheel catching at the top of the stairs. We see the old man tumbling in the air. He lands on the floor below with a satisfying KLUNK while his motorized chair strikes a fatal blow to Mrs. Montenegro. The next scene shows a jumble of animal print fabric, devil horns, tails, teeth. The air is filled with acrid smoke. [This where that smell-o-vision really pays off.]

Julia calls Simona and asks her to clean up the mess before Eladio and David come home.

Hey, stranger things have happened in this time slot...

UA, yes, you are absolutely right - Dani loves torturing Regina. And is so good at it, it's a shame it's not a career option for her!

Carlos, poor, poor Nina indeed! :) In all seriousness, I think Arturo has met his match. She can definitely outfox him - I think it would be more of a contest between Nina and Eladio.

Diana

Anon: Daniela will have a BAD ending either drug overdose or worse in the end!

You're right about Purple Lips out cutthroating Arturo at every turn because she's going to take nearly or all of his $$$$!

Diana,

And here I was hoping that with your keen sense of fairness that you would join us at the Nina Table what with Arturo's (and some here on the patio) unjust accusations and treatment of this flawed but 25 years faithful wife. Now he's (with encouragement from his creepy son) thinking that she planned all this 25 years ago by wanting to get married in NY? Really?

Carlos

While I always try to "appear" well reasoned and thoughtful in my comments, I must break form to sat this:

When Arturo and Nina get to their deposition phase, and it looks like they are headed that way, can't wait for Arturo's explosive charge against his wife to rock the room....."She used nannies when raising our FOUR children." Really Arturo? Really Patio Peeps? Does this heinous charge qualify for divorce proceedings?

Cartier has red boxes and bags...could it be?

GM,
I havent read this recap yet, though I am certain it is wonderful. I have not commented because I barely finish reading the comments until the next day. However, I want to just give a shout out big fat thank you to the recappers and those who share their points of views. I love your storytelling so much, I even reread them. I felt guilty getting so much pleasure without giving proper thanks. Urban A, Cynderella, AuntyA and all the others, I dont know what you guys do for a living but I am also certain you are writers, teachers, or just simply special. I am certain there are many others who are silent big fans like me. All I can add is Art is spiralling and seems like everything is going wrong for him. The worst part are his children dani, Eric and wife are big backstabbers. Though he us doing jerky things , I feel for him. Nina is not educated but is very "larga". I am certain she told Art it was so romantic to marry in NY, but it was slick and calculating on her part. She is such a tonta, but not so in that respect. Art underestimated her for sure. I wouldnt doubt she killed rat because at that time Art was blaming her for spoiling Eric and using as one of his divorce reasons. She couldnt get sense into Eric and when she popped into Eric's hotel room with Rat she did not hold back in front of rat. So she exterminated the problem to get Art off her back. So the reason Rat was going "you?? No, no, no" is because I bet Nina looked like cold stone killer walking straight at her. That was horrible night for Montse. I thought it was unrealistic that Eladio didnt bat an eye when part of company stock was sold by Franco. He is shrewd and unlike him to not even be concerned that ANYBODY could have bought them. We are lucky we got you recappers to explain all the cutting and editing, makes me mad they do that
Leticia

" Rat was going "you?? No, no, no" is because....." Thanks Leticia, I had forgotten that little tidbit. It for sure was not a stranger, and that makes us believe it was certainly a surprise to the roedorita too.

Will we ever find out who earned the extermination fee?

Sandy it doesn't matter rather she used nannies or not or even pulled a fast one with the prenup, arrty wants juls. And that is unfair of him. Cause this woman put up with him for 25 years. And now hes discovered
That what he threw away over 25 years ago
For nookie on the spot might be available again (not). He wants out of his marriege of
Convenience, (he needed a moma for mig) hes Gonna pull all kinds of stupid stuff to get out Of the 25 year trap he fell into. She kept it
Intetesting, I hear she knows all kinds of sex
Capades. That can go just so far. Now shes not that innocent either she's been teaching her little girl ( dani) nasty little tricks. Its wattime.

AuntyAnn--I wish you would bake cookies to share along with your excellent recap. I was able to follow all the action again in my head (and enjoy it even more the second time around).

I haven't read the comments yet, so it might have been mentioned already. The car Franco "gave/sold" Marintia was not the new yellow waspy thing, but his old car. Still it was a bad move. He should have offered it to Gaby first. She probably would have told him she didn't need it and then he could have openly made a "deal" with Mari. Given that, we wouldn't have had the break-up.

I wonder why he did it. Gaby would certainly be a more financially secure bank and knowing son like father, he could have gone out and found some party-gals to entertain him after marrying Gaby. Marintia is a nobody, depending on check-to-check. He's an idiot.

Nina,

"...she's been teaching her little girl ( dani) nasty little tricks."

Really? Please explain. I don't remember hearing that. Did I miss a scene? Do you suppose that she tried to teach Regina those nasty little tricks?

Carlos

UA--I was just about to mention the NYC divorce. Obviously the writers aren't getting the research necessary to get it straight. I'm sure U.S. marriages are recognized in Mexico, especially if between Mexican citizens. So a Mexican divorce would be recognized in the U.S.

We've had many couples in other telenovelas run off to Las Vegas to get married (in Quiero Amarte most recently for me). I'm sure they would not have to go back to Las Vegas to get a divorce.

Carlos--I see in your first comment you caught the car-switch.

Thanks, AuntyAnn. Sensational recap.

All the comments are making me laugh. This episode brought out everybody's funnybone.

So sorry to see Caridad enabling Franco.

I didn't realize Augie kneeled down. I was too busy admiring how that light-blue blazer set of his eyes and hair and wondering what was in the little bag (a jewelry box?). Gaby showed much self-control not to accept the gift.

I'm so use to longtime spouses getting 50 percent in the U.S. that I'm not holding it against Nina that she's fighting for it. But, Nina, where is the love for Art? After 25 years, aren't you shattered that he doesn't love you? Would you have stuck it out with him if he'd gone bankrupt?

I don't blame Art for almost smacking Dani. That was a low blow in the ad identifying herself as a Montenegro that prefers GLA. Kinda of like Paris Hilton advertising that she always stays at the Ritz-Carlton. Dani does this betrayal, yet she's still living free in Art's house and eating his food.

My biggest problem with Connie and Miguel is it seems so predictable. Lots of fist fights with Erick coming I guess.

Franco did it because Marintia has been his silent secret helper all along, even getting herself within a micrometer of being fired while Franco stood by mute.

He owes her a lot, and an old car is a small price. Of course she probably wants the car because it smells like Franco, or they made memories in it.

Thank you AuntyAnn---What's with all the chopping and editing? It seems like Univision does pretty much of the time when we start to get close to the end.

Arturo is going to learn the meaning of the term "to be taken to the cleaners." When the bruja gets through with him, he won't even have enough money left to get his shirts laundered. And wouldn't it be something if it was all for not? I mean that Julia stays with Eladio? I don't think that will happen but it sure would be a twist in the story if it turned out that way.

Why does Consuelo have to wait for a divorce? I must have missed that somewhere.

Will Eladio succeed with Daniela where Arturo failed? Maybe but actually I think that Dani will have a tragic ending. I just can't see her settling down. She has too much hate and resentment inside of her and that can't bode well for her.

If Daniela violates her contract, who pays? Will Arturo be stuck with the bill?

AuntyAnn---I liked your "ShutUpCaridad."

We wanted Caridad to save Franco, not fall to his level.---good one Sandy.

Arturo is starting to spiral out of control. When it rains it pours and he's starting to get drenched.

Gaby didn't seem to me to be the brightest light bulb but she finally is catching on
Glad that she gave Franco the ring back even Caridad lied for him. Slowly Gaby is seeing the real Franco. An Eladio shaped clone.

must see tv.
the gringo

Remember in the first week when someone asked why Eladio and Arturo were still in suit and tie when working in their home offices? We finally realized that it's because both actors look so good in suits. Therefore.... the producers are looking for any excuse to do shooting in NYC.

Since Nina was hell-bent on marrying a big bank account I can completely believe she would think it to her advantage to do so in the US. The laws in Mexico might have been too biased in favor of husbands in 1990. Not sure how much this has changed since then. However, since she is going to represent herself as having run the household she would take the blame for nannies, if that were something to hold against anyone. Certainly not in NYC where most divorce attorneys would know that anyone who could afford a nanny would have one if only for the status. Nina is all about status.

Niecie's question is the most relevant one here: "Would you have stuck it out if he'd gone bankrupt?" No on your life. She was determined never to be poor again. She loves Arturo's money. She may say she loves him, but I'm not buying it. She's saying this to bias her children in her favor and anyone else is just icing on the cake.

Leticia, thanks for your encouraging words and I like your theory about Nina's motive for being the Orkin employee. She wouldn't give a flying damn if Erick cheated on Consuelo because she hates her, but I'm sure she didn't like hearing about this. However, she doesn't think ahead all that well because then she would have realized that sooner or later Erick would just find another slut unless she doesn't know about his visits to strip joints.

Thanks AuntyAnn for recapping all the crazy.

Well, NIni has awakened to the bitter truth , and that girl is not playing...no lipstick and leggings instead of that purple war paint and cocktail dresses. She is ready to kick a$$ andctske names and kiss grumpygrandpas. Things just got real! Art was not cou ting on this new Niniwarrior. Yikes Hell hsth no fury like avtrophy wife scorned. Art , you are in for it.

UA,

"Since Nina was hell-bent on marrying a big bank account I can completely believe she would think it to her advantage to do so in the US."

"...she doesn't think ahead all that well..."

Don't you see a contradiction here?

gringo,

"Why does Consuelo have to wait for a divorce?"

Because she's pregnant. Ask the Mexican government why that is.

Carlos

Leticia and UA--Believable theory that Nina was the Orkin employee. She also didn't think of the obvious blow-back that Erick would be among the first to be suspected.

That may be why she was defending him so strongly and was so upset that he fled rather than having having to go back to jail hanging over his head (like an anvil). But this could also be true of any mother for her first-born son and heir. But I like theory. I wonder if she knew that MontseRatt was also Master Cat's plaything? If she did, she was playing with fire. Eladio would love nothing better than have Erick fingered for the murder, even if he didn't care a whit about MontseRatt.

The Mexican government probably has an interest in any new citizen. It doesn't really answer the question, though, other than when the child is born it's automatically registered to the legitimate partner. That doesn't prevent either the putative father and non-putative father to fly the coop rather than be saddled with child care to the age of 18.

In Connie and Erick's case there is big money involved. Erick may not want that child, but Nina does. So that puts him in the number one position to declare legitimate fatherhood. She was counting on an uncontested Divorce Express that is available in Mexico City. When Erick said he wasn't going to "give" her a divorce (i.e. sign the papers), it meant she would have to go through regular channels which takes time--pregnant mother or not. Erick wins on both counts.

My guess is that this was much more important in pre-DNA days, no?

Anon at 12:52--....she probably wants the car because it smells like Franco. That's hilarious.

Carlos, laws change.

Also, I doubt Nina knows anything about investment or she would have found ways to squirrel away some dinero for investment for her own future.

She also should have gone ballistic at Erick for selling information to the enemy. When he ran from the police after the Rat died she helped him run rather than make him face the music. Arturo had to do that because Erick's flight was almost an admission of guilt.

Anita Thanks, but there would be a grain of truth in it. I've had cast off girlfriends sleep with one of my shirts for weeks.

If this were the real world,,,,,working for Wladio might just be the best thing that ever happened to Miss Daniela. She is bright, and beautiful, and knows all about being pretty and sexy. Remember what she did for Petra the housekeeper?

If someone can show her the rewards of self discipline, integrity, truthfullness, and responsibility, she could have a chance to N O T be another Monster Ratt.

Or maybe rather than show, force her to be....

Hmmm...I wonder what Frank smells like....Axe?...Tequlia?...desperation?

Smells like Gaby. :-)

Man, I'm bummed out. I like Eladio as the bad guy. Maybe this is temporary. I still don't like Art or Julia, but I like Eladio as the villain.

I view both Julia and Nina as women who enjoy the perks of wealth. Neither husband has accused either women of destructive spending. When Nina found out that the gift car didn't mean a reconciliation, she, with an (ugly) turn of the knife, decided to donate the car to Julia's foundation. A truly materialistic woman would have kept the car, regardless. Now I must confess that her showboat Cam Newton style drive around the neighborhood was disappointing, but I don't thing that money is what truly motivates her. In most divorces the splitting of the assets is contentious and it will be this time.

Thanks Aunty Ann, you did a great job of making sense of two smushed episodes and adding some Aunty Ann humor as well. And by the way, love your Recapper Photo...your energy just jumps right off the page.

As I've said multiple times, I don't like Nina BUT I felt a lot of sympathy for her last night after that harsh blowup between her and Arturo at the house. After he stormed out, there was a moment when the camera focused on her face, and she just looked very sad. Skank or no, narcissist or no, even skanks have feelings and it hurts to be cast aside and no longer loved, when you have been (or have seemed to been) for a good 25 years. Very few women want to see their families broken up and their marriages end. And getting half the money doesn't compensate for an empty heart. I have never known anyone happy after a divorce, regardless of financial compensation.

But...opinions may differ. And surely will!

Poor Gaby...now every time I look at her, I remember Cynderella's quip about forgetting the Mutt Glasses. Sure hope the actress doesn't read any of these recaps. I still find the Miguel/Consuelo snogging creepy and ditto for Augustin's pursuit of a nymphet, but again...opinions differ.

But definitely enjoyed Eladio teaching little Miss Dani about the real world. And could Franco's stone wall be cracking?...I thought I saw a little softness (quickly repressed) when Caridad was talking to him.

We shall see. Thanks again Aunty Ann.

I'm still extremely interested in Eladio and Julia's courtship and wedding night. While there is no doubt there exists such a phenomenon as marital rape, I would imagine that it mostly occurs in marriages with histories of conflict and abuse. Honestly now, have any of you actually heard of a husband's wedding night rape of his bride? How in the world do we get to that point? If we are to believe Eladio's account to the marriage counselor, he did not just suddenly pounce on her when they got to their room. He said he tried sweet gentle persuasion and then even resorted to pleading with her. Yes, he should have left it at that and didn't, but what kind of flake agrees to marry, goes through with the wedding, then refuses her husband sex on their wedding night? Atypical at least. I think it's safe to assume that Nina would not have been so reluctant.

Carlos

Carlos, your musings made me think of the tale of Victor Hugo's wedding night. He married a young virginal French bourgeoisie girl and then boasted of his ability to make love to her nine times that first night. Nine times. For a virgin. I can imagine how physically painful and shocking that must have been to her. Supposedly she was devoted to him in spite of his many infidelities. But he, on the other hand, was deeply wounded years later by her loving friendship with Sainte-Beauve who was homosexual. Strictly a platonic love but "poor sensitive Victor" suffered terribly.
Good sez I.

Of course, all this is literary chisme. Who knows the real story?

We don't tend to hear much about such things because rape is ridiculously under-reported almost everywhere. In some countries there is no legal recognition of marital rape and in some of those it is believed that wives have no right to refuse their husbands sex for any reason.

Judyb....Hmmm...nine times in one night...perhaps Victor used a little hyperbole and poetic license..or he was an Insensitive guy.

Kirbo, that is not funny. Rape is nothing to joke about.

Ha Susanlynn, hell hath no fury than a trophy wife scorned. That is true and so funny. Maybe it cuts deeper for a trophy wife because they are probably insecure about fading looks and age because they are very well aware that "some" are glorified hookers. The Credit about glorified hookers mentioned by someone else, but dont remember who. You know who you are, please feel free and accept your credit.
Leticia

Its a TV SHOW. Not real people and not real rapes.

Nope, rape is a serious issue in real life, don't get me wrong.

I would assume that my husband would want to have sex with me on my wedding night. I would be insulted if he did not and concerned if he couldn't. In this case, I'm team Eladio.

Judyb...."even skanks have feelings"....I wrote it down . NIni did look sad when Art walked away.

Carlos...The whole situation between Eladio and Julia is verra strange indeed. A noche de boda rape...then Nada for 35 years living together! Eladio should not have forced her, but why stay together all those years with no sex? Now, suddenly .."I want to be yours." I just cannot wrap my mind around the whole scenario.

Whoops...25...still .

Is this TN doing that bad in the US ratings that Uni feels the need to chop it up so much? I am genuinely liking this show so as someone who relies on English subtitles or at the very least Spanish, it is infuriating. I know full Mexican broadcast versions of PyP are available online but without subtitles, forget it. The US broadcast is the only way I have found to watch with English (live) or Spanish (Hulu) subtitles so this is my only option. I have not found anywhere online that has the Mexican airings with Spanish subtitles or better yet, English.

Since Uni did a chop job last night again and the fabulous recap from AuntyAnn covers what aired, was there anything crucial that was missed from the original airings? A lot had to have been cut to fit 2 episodes into 1 especially since we got regular commercial breaks too so I am wondering if anything is worth noting. This TN doesn't have much filler which makes it all so much worse.

Regarding Daniela's fate since I saw a couple people predict an overdose... based on how much she values her beauty, has thrown her appearance in Regina's face, is an aspiring model and uses her looks to flirt with / play men, I am predicting a possible disfigurement of some kind..something to make her 'ugly.' Perhaps she gets high and/drunk and has a car accident or something like that. Who knows, just throwing that out into the pool of ideas but whatever it is, I am not getting redemption from her..I think she will end up either dead or disfigured..something bad.

I don't recall her ever driving her own car, so I don't know. Maybe she'll get badly beaten.

Not much has been missing and nothing like a clue to the Rat's death.

Univision has high ratings expectations to the extent that being #1 isn't enough. This is probably their top show right now (last week's numbers not yet available) but they don't think they're far enough ahead of the competition. Same attitude at Televisa.

Urban: We should get a resolution about who whacked the Ratt!

Judy B: I'm NOT ruling out the possibility of Augustin being the Ratt's killer considering his strange behavior whenever he was coming onto Gaby!

Last night we got a couple of glimpses into Arturo's unguarded subconscious state when he nearly lost his temper. The first was when he had to restrain himself from slapping Dani and the second was when he referred to the folks in NY as gringos. Sorry gringo, but as you are probably aware, in Mexico the word is not usually considered a term of endearment but is rather almost an international slur. He was quick to check his thought and say instead, "in the USA the laws are different." Although my mind has been made up for some time, these clues just give me more reason to dislike this self-righteous pompous sack of hypocrisy.

Carlos

Aunty Ann thank you for a fabulous recap! I agree with you ShutUpCaridad! What a shame that she feels the need to lie for her son so he won't get in trouble with Gaby. Why doesn't Gaby deserve the same respect from Franco that she is demanding from her son? Shame on Caridad for allowing Franco to make a fool of Gaby, especially after having been through it with Eladio. What if Gaby ended up pregnant by her cheating son? She lost major points with me last night and no amount of slapping Franco made up for it. I'm glad Gaby called it quits, I hope she stick to her decision.

Welcome Leticia, and I have to agree with you about your Nina theory! Aldo was at the top of my list with Nina right behind him for the same reasons you outlined. Indeed I remember it exactly, Montsy knew her killer and was both stunned to see that person and scared. Nina fits it perfectly. She's cold enough to be able to exterminate a little nobody rat like Montsy without batting a fake lash.

Art continues to show his tomfoolery where Nina is concerned. So they were on vacation and impulsively they married in NY? Boy she really did have him by the short and curlies didn't she? I'm no Nina fan but after 25 years of marriage and more or less helping him to build his empire by standing by faithfully and holding down the home and we assume being faithful, she is at the very least entitled to half. If she would take that and quietly move on, I might respect her. Girl has some game..I'll give her that.

What a delicious scene Nina making Hummy squirm. I think she did Julia a favor. Let's hope Hummy double dealing with Art will make it's way to Julia too!

I'm really bummed about Miguel and Consuelo, they just do nothing for me together. Miguel is just meh,a nice guy but dull as a doorknob.

HotLadio did a layup shot in his office on Art. I loved the smooth and amusing way he put Art in his place. Eladio has so much gray to his character and that is what makes him so interesting to me. If he learned that Julia had once encouraged Arturo to pursue her and be with her, would he forgive her? He's holding a secret w/regards to Franco/Caridad and it's a big one, but Julia has her own transgressions that weigh over her.

This is getting really muddy for this foursome.

I just wanted to say personally I find Fabiola/Gaby a very beautiful girl, I just don't think the down the middle flat hair plays up her features. I think the idea is to give her a youthful simple look.

Greetings to The Patio!
Many thanks to everyone for all the great comments.

Thanks to the person that clarified that it was Franco's old car that he "gave" to Marintia. Either way, he is an idiot.

I am truly at a loss at how this story will end. I don't know if Art will end up with Julia, and honestly I don't know if I want them together at the end. I think that Julia has a lot more chemistry with Eladio, than with Art. Just sayin'. And I know that a marriage is not all about sex, but I like to see some chemistry from the main couple in a TN. One example is Regina and David. They do have good chemistry. But I do know that Julia will be broken when she finds out about the Eladio/Franco/Caridad triangle. I have a feeling she is going to really fall for Eladio and will be crushed when the truth comes out.

On the subject of Auggie. The other night I know a lot of people were creeped out when he told Gaby something about marrying her in that instant. But he was joking with her. Right after he said what he said, she said "you're joking, right?" And he was. So, it was a joke. Anyway, it was interesting that he showed up at Eladio's last night. I thought about it, and I guess the writers couldn't come up with a better way for Auggie to find out about the break-up. So, I don't think Auggie is creepy, but I also don't think Miguel is creepy. Maybe I am the creepy one?

Thanks again everyone!
Hasta Pronto

I have seen shows in which there is a marriage of convenience and then after a few months of really getting to know each other, the couple falls in love. However, a marriage that the two people went into willingly but that starts out with rape and then no sex for 25 years, and then the wife suddenly falls madly in love...what?

Gracias, Aunty Ann for your enjoyable recap. All of the comments have been very interesting and I have to say:

1. Don't think Miguel is creepy at all, just very shy and lacking confidence. Clearly, his family never gave him the attention he needed while growing up so it is very hard for him to handle being in love with Consuelo given the taboos.

2. Dani may be redeemed as she ages, but now think that she's not bright enough (wasn't even curious enough to read Eladio's contract e.g.)to consider or recognize the consequences of her betrayals and deceits. Thus, it may be that Eladio ensures her downfall directly or indirectly.

3. Franco needs therapy and lots of reassurances and affection from Eladio which most likely won't happen. Eladio's treatment of him only puts him down - hardly a
builder of self-esteem or confidence. I feel really sorry for him because he's never really had a chance and he constantly witnesses Eladio's affection for David. Clearly Julia has been his kindness source growing up and now he's shutting off his Mother out of his sense of betrayal from her and Eladio. That must be a terrible feeling. It would be best for him to strike out on his own and get away from these hurtful people. Being around them only keeps his bitterness alive. Get help Franco!

Does anyone know how many episodes there are? Are we nearing the end of the story?

Gale

Gale, I completely agree with you about Franco and said so in my later recap response yesterday. I don't think Franco's behavior is that great, but I also get where he's coming from w/regards to how he is lashing out at his mother/father. Can you imagine being lied to your whole life? Suddenly in your 20's you discover that not only are your parents alive but one was right in front of you treating you like gum on the bottom of his shoe the whole time? Then here comes your mother, up in your face every time you turn around telling him how she loves him and just expecting to pick up where the left off before she went to prison. Whaaaaa? The guy must have been reeling with all sorts of emotions. I totally get his attitude, it's not pretty but I get it.

Franco really needs some therapy, and Caridad needs to back off and give the guy some much needed space. I think Eladio needs to come clean about who Franco is. It would go a long way to healing the hurt Franco must feel. It would be a start anyway.

Mexico is up to about #86 at this point and this story really needs about 120-135 episodes to properly resolve itself. Arturo needs to go to hell and back while Eladio's facade needs to crumble.

I'm sorry, but a 50-something abusive husband and father cannot be reformed in the real world. Had this story had something about a 20-year-old college student who beat up a girlfriend and got caught the first time there might be hope, but control-freak narcissists like Eladio do not change. This writing isn't convincing me and it's not up to the standard of the early seasons of Showtime's Dexter which made some viewers believe that Dexter Morgan could reform and become normal.

Eladio showed no love to David during his childhood and David probably spent a lot of time away in boarding schools once he and Franco went their own ways. He would never be able to compensate for that.

I've probably said it already, but I agree with all comments that Caridad is going about it the wrong way. She needs to take a step back. That she didn't raise Franco isn't her fault, but she can't undo 23 years of Eladio's brainwashing. Franco needs to see the wrong in Eladio's actions and make a decision to correct this with therapy, but he has to want to do that. He's still young enough to change, but he has to want to.

Auntyann, I like your take on franco, perfect.
He thinks he's smart. NOT!!!

CARLOS, dani runs to moma when daddy is
Being hard on her, she listens to what moma says. Which is never good.
Nina wouldn't dare try that with regina, she
Don't like her, shes to much like daddy. She
Loves her, just don't like her. She ruined her
Chance to show off as mother of the bride in
All her Pomp and glory. I think some of us
Likes nina and some of us don't. Im still in
Thinking which I choose.

Urban- If PyP is Uni's top show right now, even if it is not getting the ratings they want, it makes no sense why they would choose to chop shop this particular show over the others in a rush to replace it with something that can very possibly get even lower ratings. Perhaps they have a TN in mind for the timeslot that is starting in Mx and want to synch the broadcasts like Hotel de Los Secretos so they need this to end at a certain date? Whatever the reason, it is disappointing.

What I do know is that when Univision gets a series it has a specific deadline for the finale. If there is an unexpected pre-emption or something they've had finales air on weekends, which is not usual. ENDA's finale aired on Academy Awards night because of this.

This series is still in production. I don't know if Televisa knows how many more episodes there will be or if they tell Univision. This doesn't help the situation.

Synching the debuts isn't as smart as it sounds if Univision can choose the higheest-rated Mexican shows based on Mexico's ratings history.
