Pasión y Poder Episode #40 Friday, Janurary 1st 2016 The Montenegro family and the Gomez Luna family sit down for dinner.. and that's how they became The Brady Brunch.

Welcome 2016. Happy New Year Everyone!

Back in 2015 (our time) we left off with David about to arrange a meeting with his family and his girlfriend's family. Ah, there's nothing like the in-laws getting together and sitting down for dinner. I can just picture the Montenegro's and the Gomez Luna's sitting down for Thanksgiving dinner. Artie and Eladio would fight over who gets to carve the turkey. Julia and Nina would bicker about petty little things like who has the better dress and whose husband has more money in his wallet. Daniela would try to seduce her brother-in-law, David. Regina would slap her silly for flirting with her man. Creepy Miguel would make googly eyes at Consuelo. While Franco and Erick would get stinking drunk and be the uncles that always get drunk and make a fool out of themselves at family reunions. Hummy would wheel himself around and whine 24/7 about everything (especially about Daniela, Gaby, and Regina's wardrobe). While poor Petra and Simona would be forced to serve these people. Yep, Thanksgiving is sure to be loads of fun. But I digress.

Anyway, our first new scene of the night, is over at Grupo Montenegro. Regina has just been offered a great job at the family business. She accepts. But wait a minute... she wants to talk it over with David first. No, no, no. She's not the kind of woman that needs to ask her boyfriend for permission to work. It's just that since his dad and her dad are rivals.. then the whole thing could be.. umm... delicate. Besides, Regina really wants there to be communication in her relationship. And not just the kind of communication that happens under the sheets and when in heat like her *cough* parents have *cough*. Artie thinks it's good that Regina and David are a communicative couple. Regina gets a call from bae and is told that his mom, who happens to be Artie's ex, wants to talk to Artie. Regina tells her dad that Julia, his ex, wants to talk to him. Arte is left frozen. It's like he has passed gas and is trying to deny it. His inability to move a single muscle in his whole body makes Regina think that his dad doesn't want to talk to his ex. Artie takes the call. Julia tells Artie that she approves of their children's relationship. They agree to get together later on that night for dinner so Julia can let Regina know that she has nothing against her and that she still has the hots for her dad. Regina and David will choose the place where the meeting will take place. Regina thanks her dad for this gesture. David does the same by thanking his mom. He lets his mom know just how much he loves Regina. In other words.. yada, yada, yada. He tells her how Regina confronted the bad big wolf, a.k.a his dad. He lets her know how Regina used to be so afraid of facing the obstacles that would get in the way of their love and that he had to convince her so that she would face them. Julia tells David that she would love to be fearless like Regina. David tells her that everyone has fears and that what matters is that you overcome them. He leaves to let the chauffeur know to have the car ready. Now alone, Julia and Gaby realize that they are stepping in big doo-doo and that they have gotten Artie to step in it as well.

Meanwhile, a meeting between two idiots occurred. Yes, that's right, I'm talking about Franco and Erick. They both meet at a bar and Franco wants Erick's help in getting a J-O-B at Grupo Montenegro. Erick laughs in his face. But Franco's dead serious. He has some information about Gomez Luna & Associates that he's willing to share. Franco tries to the blackmail approach and threatens to show Artie and Eladio the incriminating images of Erick entering The Ratt's rat hole. Franco tells Erick to think about it. Easier said then done, I know. Franco explains that he doesn't have to be on the payroll (nomina) and that Erick could look good in front of Artie by feeding him information that could help bring down Eladio. Erick wonders what motivation Franco has to destroy Eladio. Franco explains that he doesn't work for Gomez Luna & Associates anymore and that he needs the money. He tells Erick that The Ratt could be exterminated, err that something could happen to her, if Franco shows Eladio the incriminating images. A little later, once Franco has left the bar, Erick meets up with some thugs. He hires them to beat the living daylights out of Franco and to make pudding out of him. He wants the whole thing to look like a mugging. The thugs have to steal Franco's cellphone (where he has the incriminating images) and his wallet. He sort of pisses them off when he doesn't give them half of the money in advance as they asked. He assures them that he'll give them the rest of the money when the job is done. Over at some other restaurant, Franco and Marintia meet for dinner. Franco is so sure that he has Erick eating out of the palm of his soon to be bruised, or possibly broken, hand. Marintia thinks he should be careful. Franco doesn't think he has to be careful. He knows Erick is an idiot, but fails to realize that it takes one to know one.

Over at the Montenegro residence, Petra is overstepping her boundaries by having her feet up on the sofa. Oh, Nina wouldn't approve of this kind of behavior at all. Anyway, Consuelo is chatting with Petra and telling her how she won't need a Fran Fine (a nanny) to help take care of her child. If anyone is going to take care of her baby and teach it to be a doormat it's going to be her. Petra wants to help out with babysitting. Consuelo agrees to let her babysit when she and Erick have date night. Creepy Miguel arrives home. Consuelo asks him how work was. Miguel behaves cold with her. Petra knows this the signal to leave the room so she leaves. Creepy Miguel admits that he is pissed off at her because she got back together with Erick just like that. Consuelo argues that Erick promised and promised that he would change and that everything would be alright between them. Miguel thinks Consuelo should have waited to see for herself if it was true or not. Miguel leaves. Clara arrives to visit Consuelo. Consuelo lets her know that Miguel is mad at her because she got back together with Erick. She wants to go someplace else to speak with Clara. Nina enters at that moment and acts nice. She tells Consuelo that she's free to bring whomever she wants to the Montenegro mansion because it's her home too. Nina leaves. Consuelo tells Clara how everything is happy happy joy joy with Erick. Clara is glad to hear it, but advises her friend not to take crap from Erick or anyone else.

Back at the torture chamber, Julia and Gaby talk. Julia wants to speak with Artie. She knows it'll be difficult, with Regina and David there, but she needs to let Artie know that she'll be brave for him and will ask Eladio for a DIVORCE. Uh, didn't she already ask for one? I seem to recall that she did. Whatever. Anyway, she'll have to do this slow and steady, not because it wins the race, but because she doesn't want to affect David's interests. Gaby adds that it should also be so Eladio doesn't do something to her, like take care far away, if he found about it. Speaking about the devil, Eladio enters the room when Julia and Gaby are about to leave the premises. Eladio demands to know where Julia is going. Gaby cowers down, but stays strong, and answers for her aunt, by telling Eladio that she and Julia are about to go out. Eladio shuts her up and makes it clear to Gaby that she wasn't talking to her. Julia comes to Gaby's defense and asks her to leave her alone with Eladio. Gaby leaves. Eladio demands an explanation. Julia says that she's tired of being grounded and wants to go out. Eladio tells her that if she wants to go out.. then she'll have to go out with him. David enters the room at that moment and he lets his dad know that he, his mom, and Gaby are going out to meet with Regina. He says that it's a shame that Eladio doesn't want to get close Regina. Now Eladio will have to stay at home and have dinner with Hummy. A cruel and unusual punishment, I know. David and Julia leave. Later on, Eladio sits down for dinner at the dinner table but he's all alone. Hummy won't be joining him, since he already ate. Eladio asks Simona to go and get him a cup of coffee.

Regina and Artie arrive home. Artie doesn't want to lie to Nina about the dinner get together with his ex so he decides to let her know about it. But it's Regina who informs her mom about the dinner. Artie explains that the point of the dinner is so both families get together to show that they approve of their children's relationship. So it's up to Nina to decide if she wants to come along as well.

Our not so beloved hag, Gisela, has a bottle of booze tucked in her pants, and she whines to a neighbor about the heartaches of motherhood. Francisco arrives wanting to take out the girls, Consuelo and Clara, to a celebratory dinner to celebrate his promotion. He tells Gisela how Franco was kicked to the curb by Eladio. Gisela is impactada. She wants to know the details so she takes Francisco out for corn on the cob to grill him for more info. Uh, I think some hard liquor would have done trick, but whatever. A little later, Gisela and Francisco are at Justino's crappy corn stand, and Francisco is enjoying his corn on the cob. Gisela, meanwhile, tries to grill him for details, but gets nada. Francisco takes the rest of his corn on the cob for the road and skedaddles out of there. Gisela is left worried because she's sure that since Franco has been kicked to the curb, it means that she won't continue to receive hush money from Eladio.

Clara visits Justino and Luisita. Justino thanks Clara for taking care of Luisita. Clara tells him that she misses him. He asks her to come along with him when he takes Luisita to Chapultepec. They could talk there. Luisita overhears that Clara is tagging along and she's all smiles. She's soooo happy! My mom Maribel, who?

Eladio decides NOT to go to New York to beat Artie out of the restaurant business deal because he doesn't want to leave Julia behind since Julia isn't allowed to travel just yet because of medical reasons. Hummy can't believe that Eladio is about to lose a juicy business deal because of Julia. He wonders if Eladio is being too much of a hopeless romantic or an idiot- LOL. Eladio looks like he wants to mess with Hummy's oxygen tank again. We scream on The Patio: Do it, do it, do it. Alas, he doesn't listen to us. Instead he tells the rat bastard that he doesn't want to leave Julia alone because of Artie. Ah, Hummy gets it now. If Eladio doesn't want to go it's not because he's a hopeless romantic, but because he wants to keep an eye on her. Hummy thinks that Eladio should control Julia and Gaby more. Eladio wonders why he needs to control Gaby more. Hummy says that they are both being naughty by leaving him alone to go out and have dinner with David's girlfriend. Eladio now begins to realize that perhaps he may be doing things wrong. In other words, he has a had light bulb moment.

Gaby, David, and Julia are the first ones to arrive at the restaurant. Regina and Artie arrive afterwards. Julia and Artie lock eyes. Romantic theme in the background. Julia tells Artie that she's glad that he came because they have a lot to talk about *wink wink*. Before anything else can be said, Nina and her purple lipstick enter the restaurant. Nina says that she is so glad to have the opportunity to have a drink with her new political family. Oh snap. Julia wasn't expecting for Artie to bring the misses. Nina takes her seat. Julia and Nina mention only having seen each other once before... at that little charity event, where Artie beat Eladio in the bidding for the dress. The two don't speak a word about the nail salon fiasco. Nina says that she's so glad that her daughter and his son are a couple. Julia feels the same. Nina and Gaby are introduced. Nina mentions that she and Artie are about to head off to have a honeymoon in New York. Julia gets up and leaves the table. Gaby follows along. Nina smiles and looks innocent, but deep down inside, we know that she loves how she was able to stick it to Julia so subtly. In the powder room, Julia lets Gaby know how hurt she is that Artie and Nina are about to head off on a honeymoon. And there she was about to get a DIVORCE from Eladio. Julia chastises herself and says that she was stupid, stupid, stupid. Gaby advises her not to jump to conclusions and to wait until she talks with Artie. They both know what a master manipulator Nina can be.

Erick arrives home. Consuelo wants to have a date night with him on Saturday. Erick says that he can't.. he has a business dinner that night. Consuelo finds it strange that he's meeting a client on a Saturday. Erick calls her out on her starting her jealous snits again. He explains that the client can see him only on a Saturday. To calm her down, he proposes they have a lunch date instead on Saturday. Consuelo agrees.

Fifty Shades of Marintia. Yuck! Gross! Get these two off my screen! At some cheap hotel, Franco is naked and handcuffed to a bed. Marinita is clad in just her $25 JcPenny sexy lingerie as she climbs on top of him and places a blindfold over his eyes. She moves on to smooch on him and infect him with her cooties. Run Gaby run! He removes the blindfold from his eyes. She picks it up and begins hitting him with it as she tells him that they could do big things together and that he doesn't need his padrino. Later on, he and Marinita are both naked under the sheets, and he receives a call from Gaby. Gaby is worried about him and asks him where he's staying. He tells her that he's at a hotel and will call her tomorrow to tell her all about the plans he has. Gaby tells him that she loves him before hanging up with him. Franco hops out of bed and tells Marinita that Gaby will be her Golden Ticket back to the Gomez Luna family. Marinita handcuffs herself to the bed and seductively reminds him that he's tied down to her. Yuck.

Julia and Gaby return to the table. They take their seats. Eladio arrives and shocks them all. Artie stands up. Eladio acts nice. He says that he has realized that he was wrong and that he came because he has accepted David and Regina's relationship. He explains that what helped him change his mind was what David told him earlier and what he and Regina talked about when they ran into each other. Both Artie and Nina wonder what Regina talked about with Eladio. Regina explains that she simply told Eladio that she loves David. Eladio has taken his seat and he tells Artie that despite their differences they should both help to make sure that their kids are happy. Eladio proposes a toast to that. They all clink their glasses together. Except for Artie and Julia, obvio. Eladio watches on and smirks. Eladio says that he's so proud of David because he has able to get on in life by himself and is so responsible. Artie talks about how proud he is of his own offspring, Regina, who graduated with honors. Eladio brings up David coming to work for him. Nina suggests they not talk about work now. Nina tells Julia that she heard about her about accident and is glad that she's okay. Nina asks Julia about her foundation and how it's doing. Julia replies that it's doing well, but that she hasn't been able to go to it lately, because of Eladio... ummm.. because of the accident. Nina asks Julia to invite them to the next charity event that they have. She and Artie love to help those who need it. Eladio says that he can see that they are both so generous. Regina and David are in shock over this little get together with the two families that hate each other's guts. David hopes that his dad is doing all those for the correct reasons. Regina leaves to powder her nose. As we go to a commercial, we see as Eladio and Nina chat, Gaby and David chat, and Artie and Julia exchange a look.

Daniela is pissed because everyone went out to dinner and she wasn't invited. Boo-hoo. She lets Erick know that she went out with David and still has the hots for him. She tells him of her plans to get him back once she stops being grounded. Later on, Erick texts The Ratt, and lets her know that he'll get her anything her little rat heart desires. Oh, The Ratt knows just what she wants, and she sends him a photo of it. Turns out she wants some necklace. Daniela surprises him and takes his phone from his hands. She realizes that he's still seeing his Ratt and calls him out on not having learned from his mistakes. She asks him what he'll do once he gets bored of his Ratt. Erick admits to Daniela that he has been pretending to be nice with Consuelo and Miguel. Miguel overhears the confession.

The two families are leaving the restaurant. Nina and Eladio have really hit if off. Nina finds him so charming. Eladio finds her charming as well. While Nina and Eladio talk, Julia and Artie take the opportunity to say a few words to one another. He laments that they weren't able to speak to each other like they wanted. He tells her that they'll have to talk and she agrees with him. At that moment, TMZ arrives to get the juicy facts on this little family dinner between both families. Eladio annouces that the two families have put aside their differences for the sake of the happiness of their offspring. Artie is asked if all this is the truth and nothing but the truth. Nina confirms it. TMZ gets a photo of both families together like one big happy family. More questions are asked and more photos are taken. Artie and Julia get another chance to speak. He doesn't know if this was for the best. Julia feels the same. Artie says that sooner or later everyone was bound to find out. Julia agrees. She puts out her hand so he can shake it. But he surprised her by planting a smooch on her cheek. Eladio doesn't see that, it seems. Julia gets a chance to speak to Regina and she apologizes for her behavior with her from before. Julia tells Regina that she'll be like the daughter that she never have. Gaby, who? Eladio gallantly says his goodbyes to Nina and tells her that it was an honor to meet her. The Gomez Luna (sans David) leave. Nina and Artie leave as well. Regina and David smooch.

As promised, Daniela gives Petra a makeover. Petra is loving the new look. Daniela takes a photo of her in a seductive pose and tells her that she'll upload it on her social media page.

Nina, Artie, and Regina arrive home. Regina thanks them for dinner and heads upstairs to talk to Miguel. Nina talks wonders about Eladio and how charming he is. She'd never thought he was like that since everyone always talked about him. Artie isn't buying Eladio's change of heart at all. Nina asks him to not see it like that because if Regina and David get married then Artie and Eladio will have to mingle more often. Artie's not looking forward to that at all. Nina mentions how Julia didn't talk much and seemed uncomfortable. Artie hopes that the sacrifices they are making for the sake of their children's happiness is worth it all. Nina asks him what he means.

Julia and Eladio enter their bedroom. Julia thanks him for not having made a scene at the restaurant. He assures her that he really thinks that David and Regina's relationship is what is best for them all. David enters the room and thanks his dad for his behavior during dinner. He hopes that his dad has really had a change of heart. Eladio understands their reasons for not believing in him and lets them know that he too has a right to change his mind. Eladio asks David to wait for him in the study. David leaves. Eladio asks Julia if she knows what he loved the most from the dinner. No, it wasn't the food or the booze, but it was realizing that if Julia flees the nest, it wouldn't do her any good, because Artie and Nina are happily married. He hopes that this will stop her from mooning over Artie.

Recap is up. Sorry it took so long.

Thanks Mauricio,
I just saw that you posted your recap and I can't wait to read it. I am barely going to watch the episode, so your recap will help.

Hope everyone had a great Holiday season! Now it's back to regular schedules and trying to shed those extra pounds from all the eats and sweets.

Hasta Pronto!

Awesome Mauricio, thank you

"Arte is left frozen. It's like he has passed gas and is trying to deny it"

Very gracious of Nina at dinner and can see the asset she's been to Art these many years. Great conversationalist, confident and diplomatic particularly with her husband and ex sitting together willing everyone to leave so they could heavy pet.

Let's see. David works for his dad and Regina works for hers and will assume they are not total idiots and deny conflict may arise. I suggest they give Mary Matalin and James Carville a call.

So Julia, what's your plan B? You are so desperate plan A is a guy that cheated, humiliated you and is married. I suggest a dating site for starters.

You know if I didn't know better I would think Julia and Art were trying to meet behind Eladio's back.

No one has the same enthusiasm for the undercard fight. Chimp boy v Chump boy are overrated and over confident.

Gracias, Mauricio.

Good for Gabriela that she's an astute observer of other women. Too bad she's not equally good at it with regards to guys her age.

"Nina and her purple lipstick enter the restaurant" -- excellent. Purple lipstick is Nina's partner in evil.

If Franco has any brains he's backed up those photos on his cell phone.

More later.

Wonderful recap, Mauricio! Well, that family dinner was unexpected and awkward. The press know now, so there's no turning back. The Monterubio and Gomez Luna have to pretend to be happy families with each other, at least in public.

Julia really needs to make her own plans, and not include Arturo in them. And both she and Art need to realize that any relationship between the two of them would jeopardize the relationship between Regina and David, and they would be selfish to do that.

Franco really is making some stupid decisions. He learned to be cunning and a cheat from Eladio (and how to treat women), but not much else.

Sorry, Montenegro family. Monterrubio is over on Yo No. :)

Thanks, Mauricio. I loved the title.

That"family" dinner...awkward. Eladio with Nini and Julia with Artie. What do you think...wife swap???? Could Julia have looked any guiltier? She has to work on her pppppoker face.

I just still do not care about any of these people.

Worth the wait Mauricio! loved your "deleted" lines. Chuckling in the morning coffee.

Have to say it, that moment with Julia having to leave the table and do the "woe is me" in the bathroom just about made me slap her silly. Really? So basically implying the only reason you were going to finally leave an idiot that abused you for 20 years was because you had someone else lined up? Maybe instead of whining to Gaby, she should be talking to Gina about how to be a stronger woman who makes her own decisions. Swear, Nina could give this woman lessons too.

Prediction: Eladio and Nina sittin' in a tree...

I use to like Consuelo, now she's just annoying in trying to make things work with Erick. We get it writers. Move on.

Could not even with the Franco scene. I got through thinking of the great out-takes the actors probably had trying to film that scene. Probably award worthy trying to keep a straight face. Otherwise, I hope we are never subject to that again.

Hummy needs to be pushed down that winding stairway and off the screen. And maybe move this plot along because seriously, it's becoming he same old thing every day lately, only with Franco not working for Need to be Revealed Daddy Dearest.

Daisynjay

Happy New Year everyone! And thanks to Cynderella, Urban and AuntyAnn for the terrific recaps all week.

Mauricio, this is a blast – as much fun as the episode (which I particularly enjoyed: I mean, how can you go wrong with consuegros like these?). I expecially got a hoot out of your imagined Thanksgiving dinner and how our characters would settle into their roles in their new, extended family.

Nina and the Purple Lipstick – one.
Julia and the Canaries – nada. ("Gaby who?" Hah!)

It will indeed pose challenges for Regina and David to work for their fathers. Neither one has said yes officially yet, and I thought it was good instincts for Regina to want to talk it over with David first before giving Art a final answer. That says to me that she IS thinking about the implications. Not sure what it will take for David to finally say yes to Eladio.

In any case, I think Regina will help to pull Art bank from the brink when he falls into these one-upmanship games with Eladio-- pushing the limits of ethical behavior-- and will call him on things. And David will have to remain ignorant of or totally ignore the shady stuff Eladio does and maintain his distance-- sticking to other projects in the company..

Thanks Mauricio for yet another detailed and humorous recap! I feel like death warmed over and I really appreciated all the laugh out loud moments I got from your recap. Gracias otra vez :)

I really relished seeing Julia and Arturo sulking in their corner during the awkward dinner. I was so glad their secret rendezvous was ruined. Serves them right! I was cheering for Nina for the way she subtly marked her territory during dinner and how she kept the conversation rolling despite Julia's rude demeanor. Julia was giving her the stinky eye and huffing and puffing because Nina had the gall to accompany her husband to dinner! Well, technically it was a date where perfect Julia, planned to profess her love to Nina's husband of 25 years and father of her 3 adult children, then hatch a plan for the two of them to abandon their respective spouses and shack up together, ruining in the process the burgeoning romance of Julia's son and Arturo's daughter. How evil and unselfish of Nina to show up and sabotage such a noble endeavor!

Eladio showing up at dinner unexpectedly was a smart move and took everybody by surprise (including us viewers). And boy was he smooth! He was so fetching and delightful, Nina was positively charmed! I did notice though that she was calling him "Eladio" and using the familiar / informal "tú" to talk to him while he maintained his distance calling her "Señora" at all times and addressing her using the formal form "usted". All in all, the supposedly villainous characters won this round hands down and I cheered for them all the way. Arturo was seething and I derived such pleasure from his annoyance!

Petra's scenes provided comic relief in this episode and the Humberto / Eladio encounter in the study was a hoot. I really like the FC / Luis Bayardo one-on-one scenes and hope we get more of these in future episodes.

As regards Franco, well, not only he's a jerk, but he's a dummy dumb dumb jerk! His wining, dining and boinking the mouth-breather on Gabi's dime was absolutely disgusting, not to mention his desperate attempts to betray the family that raised him. The only thing that made his scenes bearable was knowing that a can of whoop-ass is expecting him very soon. (Tomorrow in PyP time). I'm really looking forward to it! Can't happen to a nicer guy!

-- A quote from the capítulo --

“Estuviste llorando? ¡Dime quién fue y le suelto unos guamazos! (…) ¿Miguel? No, no te creo. ¿Me estás choreando?"

Faithful Feisty Clara always ready to defend her Doormat friend: "Have you been crying? Tell me who it was and I'll whip his behind! (…) Miguel? I don't believe you. You're kidding me?"

Llorar = to cry.

Soltar = to release, to let loose, to let go, to deliver (a punch, a hit).

Guamazo = Guama is a tropical fruit contained in a pod about the length a human's forearm. So a "guamazo" is a blow to the body using a Guama pod (that's gotta hurt for sure!). Check out this page for more info and photos of the Guama fruit http://bogotaeatsanddrinks.com/2012/03/21/guama-a-sweet-pod-with-a-fun-seed/

Chorear = to tease, to kid. Synonymous expressions are "¿Me estás tomando el pelo?" or "¿Estás bromeando?".
Please note that this definition is only valid in Mexico. In other countries of Latin America, "chorear" means to rob or to nick. I encountered this definition for Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay. In Chile, "chorear" means to gripe, to grumble. In Chilean Spanish, "Estar choreado" means to be miffed, to be upset.

Marianita got it on with Eladio? I think she's playing Franco because had she serviced Eladio that would have been too important not to show us.

Gabriela needs a new boyfriend. I nominate Miguel. He seems to like damsels in distress.

It has to be hell to have photographers stalking you all the time.

Thank you, AuntyAnn.

I'm glad the recap will help you out. I hope that you also had a great holiday season.

Thank you tofie.

Yes, Nina was a great conversationalist. Not only that, but she looked stunning. I loved her dress along with the matching purple lipstick.

Oh yes. If both Regina and David work for their dads, there will certainly be conflict. Hopefully, they'll be able to separate the personal from work.

"A dating site" -- Good one! Hahaha!

"Chimp Boy and Chump" - LOL

Thank you Urban.

We'll have to wait and see if Franco worked his brains and backed up the photos.

Thank you, Vivi.

Yes! That was an awkward and unexpected dinner.

Yes, Franco hasn't learned much from his teacher. This, for sure, will be one of the cases where the student won't surpass the teacher.

Thank you, Susanlynn.

I love the idea of a "wife swap". Eladio and Nina certainly hit it off, didn't they? Wouldn't it be a great twist, if they fell in love?

Thank you, Daisynjay.

Yes, Julia turning on the "woe is me" drama was beyond annoying.

"Prediction: Eladio and Nina sittin' in a tree..." - I'm predicting the same thing.

Consuelo is such a fool. How many times has Erick said he would change and it has all been a lie? What makes her think that this time he was telling the truth?

Oh, I'd love to see Hummy be helped down the stairs.

Thank you, NovelaMaven.

I enjoyed this episode, too. That little get together between the two families was such fun. Eladio and Nina were able to pull it off without blowing up and causing a scene. While Julia and Artie were both having such a terrible time.

Poor Gaby. That was a total snub on her when Julia said that Regina would be the daughter that she never had.

Thank you, Nandicta.

Nina sure did a great job at subtly marking her territory and letting Julia know about the honeymoon in New York. I enjoyed the way she was smiling and looking innocent afterwards while Julia was obviously affected and Artie didn't know what to say.

Oh, yes. Eladio sure took me by surprise as he did with the others. Especially Artie.

I loved the Hummy and Eladio encounter and the look Eladio gave Hummy when Hummy asked Eladio if his reasons for not wanting to leave Julia at home was out of love or because he was being stupid.

Thank you for the quote and the definitions of each words. I'm actually Bolivian and use the word "chorear" to mean "to rob". :)

Mauricio---What a riot a Thanksgiving dinner would be with the Montenegro's and the Gomez Luna's possible holiday dinner get together.

He knows that Erick is an idiot but fails to realize that it takes one to know one.

Dinner with Hummy, a cruel and unusual punishment. Yes Mauricio, that's for sure.

Fifty Shades of Marinita

You knocked it out of the park Mauricio

I noticed that the COLD and CUNNING bruja had a new hairstyle but still was using that ugly light purple lipstick. Light purple or dark plumb only a bruja would pick those shades.

Can't wait to see the after affects of the dinner and what happens to piss-ant errand boy on Monday.

must see tv
the gringo

Mauricio, Thanks for your excellent recap as always. I really laughed out loud at:

“Franco tells Erick to think about it. Easier said then done, I know”

I haven’t been able to comment recently but I am thankful to all the recappers for their wonderful work especially through the holiday season and with some of you not feeling well recently. Cynderella, UA, NovelaMaven, AuntyAnn and Mauricio—you guys are tops!

Nandicta, I too have appreciated all your contributions! Thanks for the info about guama and guamazo. I had googled “guamazo” and clicked on images and got several sad and disgusting pictures of people with their heads bashed in.

I have enjoyed watching most of the main characters in this telenovela. It’s true that David and Regina are the only ones I can unabashedly root for but I enjoy Eladio, Nina, Dani and Art as well.
Lots of good fun.

Gramps is really such a non-entity. He's like Gisela, he can spew his poison everywhere-but he has no power. If you don't want to get hit by him, just stay an arm's length away.

David is really such a sweet and good kid. I really like him. I'm dreading him being put in a position where he may feel forced to do something wrong. Regina's smile is so radiant.

With regards to this most recent episode:

I giggled at the look Julia gave Gaby after Julia fibbed to David that she wanted to talk to Art about her approval of David’s and Regina’s relationship. David says “Great! Let’s all have dinner together!” and immediately calls Regina to set it up.

Julia freaking out in the bathroom about Art and Nina. Gaby comforts Julia by saying that you know how manipulative Nina is and Julia agrees. What information do they have that makes this an accurate appraisal?

How do the thugs know where to find Franco? He just started living at a hotel.

Dani’s expressions while she was talking with Petra were great. Very good scene. Loved when Petra asked for her lipstick to be like Nina’s. Lips like her but no purple!

I like the scenes with Eric and Dani together. Otherwise, I could FF Eric most of the time, double FF when he’s with the Ratt.

A quick hold-your-breath moment when everyone wanted to know what Regina and Eladio had previously talked about. Regina of course did the "right" thing and related she had just told Eladio how much she loves David.

Happy and Healthy New Year to all!

Barbara

Thanks for this nifty rollicking recap, Mauricio. The joy you put into your writing is clearly apparent. What fun you bring to the party.

So Nina is a narcissistic evil bruja? Hmmm... sure, but I'd say she single-handedly rescued what could have been a disastrous gathering which was selfishly ill-conceived from the beginning, and Julia's comment that Regina will be the daughter she never had is certainly evidence of what a sensitive thoughtful person she is.

Fantastic recap
So sorry this conflicts with Bajo el cielo mismo & for some reason Uni hates Comcast (ok, so do I) & I can't watch it. Telemundo is great, they want you to see their novelas.

Your recaps keep me going, thank you so much!

-- Mauricio: When I (re)started learning Spanish, I saw a documentary filmed in Bolivia and people enunciated each word so perfectly, I understood everything! It made me wish all Spanish speakers spoke as clearly as the Bolivians in that film did! Moreover, Bolivia figures in my ideal South American adventure, a trip I've been planning, reading up on and fantasizing about for the last 10 years and one of the main reasons I wanted to master the Spanish language. Presently, I have neither the time nor the resources to make such a trip a reality but I know that I'll make it happen, aunque sea lo último que haga! :)

-- Gringo: Ay, Gringo! You are entitled to hate Nina and I respect your opinion, though given the situation I personally feel that Julia is giving the viewers more motives to call her a bruja. Nevertheless, if we set actions and personality traits to one side, could you at least admit that even though you consider Nina a "bruja", she did look fetching in that purple dress, rocking her new hairdo and her electric purple lippy? Can you imagine any other female PyP cast member looking that great in a color palette so difficult for us mere mortals to pull off? :D
I do however share your anticipation for the punishment that will be doled out to "piss-ant errand boy" (Good one!) on Monday. Again, could not happen to a nicer guy!

-- CorgiMom: You're very welcome! I'm glad you liked the vocab. Sorry to hear you found graphic images when you googled "guamazo". Being very squeamish myself, I learnt the hard way to never use Google Images unless I make sure beforehand in the regular Google search that what I'm looking for is perfectly "safe".

I agree about Humberto and Gisela; though venomous, they're mostly harmless. They used to have a lot of power over their lives and their offspring, power they mostly derived from money, but through their own fault (gambling for Gramps, drinking for Gisela) they lost it all and they are now reduced to begging for alms from Eladio. We viewers can tell they hate it but they have to lick Eladio's boots, follow his orders and thread lightly around him in order to survive, all the while acting high and mighty with everyone else who isn't their " reluctant benefactor". This to me is the source of the comedy we get with these two characters.

A Happy and Prosperous 2016 to you too! :)

-- Carlos: "So Nina is a narcissistic evil bruja? Hmmm... sure, but I'd say she single-handedly rescued what could have been a disastrous gathering which was selfishly ill-conceived from the beginning, and Julia's comment that Regina will be the daughter she never had is certainly evidence of what a sensitive thoughtful person she is."

Thank you for saying so eloquently what I tried to explain in a paragraph in my earlier comment but could not verbalize it quite this well. What you explained is the reason I was 100% "Team Nina" and "Team Eladio" during that dinner. I feel they both behaved in a dignified manner during an undignified, if not downright humiliating situation.

I'm wondering whether the thugs Erick hired to beat up Franco and steal his cell phone are going to be screw-ups. That would serve him right.

If Gisela isn't going to get any more dinero from Eladio how long before Caridad finds out the truth? And Franco will be livid when he does.

-- UA: It would be great if Franco gets beating AND Erick gets into trouble for it. Two slimy birds with one stone! :D

I think Caridad is suspicious of Gisela now that she found out her model Mom threw her letter to her son in the trash. I hope they speed up this part of the story because it'll spur on so much action! To be honest, I'm more excited about the hidden secrets than all the "romance" stuff.

All the couples leave me cold: Julia and Arturo (gag me now!), David and Regina (occasionally cute but mostly vanilla), MonZorrat and Erick (barf-worthy), Erick and Consuelo (stop being a doormat, woman!), Consuelo and Miguel (stalker alert!), Marintia aka Mouth-Breather and Franco (wish I could un-see that!), Franco and Gabi (run for your life little girl!), Gabi and Auggie (meh!), Clara and Francisco (double meh!)…

Humberto and Gisela and/or Franco and Dani on the other hand would be matches made in Heaven (Hades)! I also hope they give Petra a nice suitor / boyfriend. However, since the writers are unlikely to grant me my wish on the romantic pairings, here's hoping the truth about Franco, Eladio's past, Nina's past and the story behind the mysterious tattoos get revealed soon.

Nandicta, I'm not really squeamish—maybe the better word would be disturbing, not disgusting. Disturbing because of what we humans do to each other and because people take pictures of it to post online. Thank goodness I can watch my telenovela to escape from all this disturbing crap (LOL, snicker, snicker). No actually, it's all about learning spanish. Yes, that's it…it's all about learning spanish. : )

Barbara

-- Barbara: That's the official line and we're sticking to it! We watch TNs for the Spanish, it's not our fault these things are filled with gorgeous-looking people! ;)

And I wholeheartedly agree with you: it's so disturbing to see the extent to which some of us "humans", as a supposedly "evolved" species, can inflict so much pain and misery on our fellow brothers and sisters in humanity. I made a decision almost 3 years ago to stop watching the news. I now only read the news and there are days I even avoid that. It's a coping mechanism that saves me a great deal of heartache and preserves my sanity overall. This is another reason why I'm grateful for the escapism of TNs and of this blog.

" That's the official line and we're sticking to it! We watch TNs for the Spanish "

+1

Barbara

Nandicta,

"I also hope they give Petra a nice suitor / boyfriend."

Me too. Maybe we can rehabilitate Humberto as a romantic interest for our freshly tarted-up Petra. Admittedly he has his flaws and disabilities, but if he acts up or acts out, she could literally take is breath way.

Barbara,

I'm so pleased that you are here. This is right on point:

"Gaby comforts Julia by saying that you know how manipulative Nina is and Julia agrees. What information do they have that makes this an accurate appraisal?"

How'd you like to join us here at the Nina Table for some Mimosas?

Carlos

That's the official line and we're sticking to it! We watch TNs for the Spanish

Por supuesto!

Nandicta, if Televisa is sticking to its press release and only producing novelas of the length of YNCELH we're a third of the way into this one and no secrets are revealed yet. I think Franco's origins are going to be first because Caridad caught her mother disposing of the letter to Franco, who is asking questions. He won't like the answers, either.

We know that Arturo is a 3rd-generation CEO of his company. There has been no mention of his parents or any siblings so I am assuming he was an only child and his parents are now dead.

No mention made of Nina's family of origin either. I don't know how common it is for only children to marry each other (anywhere in the world, for that matter). We only know that she flopped as an actress and ended up using her beauty to get a man with a big bank account and big equipment to match (I can't see her marrying anyone who wasn't good in bed). As for Arturo's first wife we haven't heard about any relatives of hers either, so Miguel has no uncles, aunts, or cousins from that side.

Eladio's background is a complete mystery. He said his parents died when he was young but he's so dishonorable we can't trust anything he says.

Julia, then, ends up being the only one with a living parental unit and that's putting it very politely. She has a sister who lives out of the country.

I also don't think she was insulting Gabriela when she called Regina the daughter she always wanted. It sounds like Amanda and her (unnamed) husband were good parents to Gabriela, who chose to live with Julia so she could go to college in Mexico. It doesn't sound like she was there from Day One.

Carlos, I'm honored by the invitation. I'd love to come and sit a spell!

Barbara

I've forgotten, where does Caridad think her son is and why does she think he doesn't visit?

This TN needs a pet... yes, yes, there are those canaries, but aren't canaries pretty much just litmus paper for mines?

Carlos

Thanks, Mauricio. Fun, detailed recap. Franco tells Erick to think about it. Easier said than done, I know. - lol

Bravo, Nina! You go, girl, protecting your territory.

Julia, maybe living with Eladio all these years isn't the hell it seems? Must not be that bad, if you'll only bust out if Art is waiting for you.

I get a kick out of Erick. He's earned nothing and knows nothing, but yet has so much swagger. His hired goons didn't seem to trust him.

Is Daniela genuine with Petra? She's not going to prank Petra's photo online with a gag caption is she?

Bravo Mauricio! You got a good one for sure and you did it justice..love the title!

You got to hand it to Heladio and Natasha er...Nina. They both sure know how to make an entrance no? I could actually see those two engaging in some pillow talk. I think Eladio actually needs a woman like Nina who knows how to tame a savage beast. I think Eladio would even let Nina smear her purple lipstick on his sacred moving tat..Ha! Sign me up for the Eladio and Nina table, if there isn't one..then I will set one up. Pronto!

I have to say..props to Nina for smoothly throwing down some game at the table. After all Arturo is her husband, even if he is trying to sneak out of it like the gutless weasel he is. Regardless of her shortcomings, Nina appears to have been a loyal wife who has supported her husband. She deserves Arturo to at least be man enough to come clean with her.

I love Susana but I just can't with her Julia. She wants a man who cheated on her and got another woman pregnant when they were engaged? A man who is willing to cheat on his current wife with her and who is professing his love to her while married to Nina. I think she is so miserable with El that anyone at this point would be an option for her. It just happens that Arturo reappeared. Oh Julia...run and get yourself some dignity and then to therapy. This woman has some serious issues.

Gross to Manatee and Franco. Is it me or is this girl just no sexy? I found myself wishing it had been Daniela and Franco doing the whole bondage thing. THAT would have been entertaining and I'm sure those two would have made that scene much more palatable.

I can't wait for Gaby and Auggie to hook up. The guy needs his own life and to stop being Arturo's priest. I want Gaby to have a nice guy and stop being abused by Franco and man handled by Eladio. Poor girl.

One girl I don't feel sorry for is Console-me. Her constant whining about Errrrick is getting old and if she can't trust him then what good is her marriage? Is she going to forever being giving him the side eye when he works late? Get a clue and move on. Just not with Miguel. He's another one who is starting to bug me with his constant whining to Regina.
As much as I loathe Erick I don't blame him for being annoyed at Erick lurking around his wife and hanging out in their bedroom. It's inappropriate. No one is making Con stay with Erick..she's no victim.

Why do I need to care about Clara and Justino or whatever his name is. The most exciting thing in their scenes is her butt washed jeans. Why does she always wear them? I feel so dirty when she wears them and my eyes fixate on the whitewashed butt.

Poor Petra, I think she will be the butt of social media courtesy of Daniela. How cruel.

To answer an earlier question, Gisela told Caridad that Franco moved away and is now a fisherman in some other area of Mexico, which is why she doesn't hear from him. The cut-off was when he turned 18 and we now know that he is 24 or 25.

As for pets, no. Nina wouldn't stand for it and Eladio would only murder any pets of Julia's or Gabriela's. If not him then Humberto (although a sufficiently large dog could cause him to end up going down the stairs). I could, however, see Eladio intimidating Julia with a pit bull. Do any of you really want that?

As to Eladio and Nina hooking up? I'm sure he thinks of her as a whore and would treat her accordingly. She would be way out of her league in dealing with him.

Mauricio, thank you so much for the wonderful recap.

"Franco is so sure that he has Erick eating out of the palm of his soon to be bruised, or possibly broken, hand", "If anyone is going to take care of her baby and teach it to be a doormat it's going to be her" and "Our not so beloved hag, Gisela" were my favorites.

Am having a very bad work day so can't comment more but thank you so very much. Will try and read the comments later tonight.

Mauricio--Recap is Read! Sorry it took so long!

A big round of applause. It was a delectable offering (and long, too) and I always look forward to your strike-throughs. More later. Have to catch up with YoNo.

Carlos--I saw you changed the liquid in your avatar. Clicking to see a larger image, I re-read your profile on Blogger. Are you still busy catching musarañas? Be they fetid shrew-mice, ridiculous stuffed figures or floating specks in the eye? Did you know "pensar en musarañas" means absent-minded (something we know you are not).

Nina and Eladio--The ideal couple for 2016. I would venture Nina would make mincemeat out of Eladio in no time flat. Of course, she doesn't have the same financial resources Eladio has, but she has purple lipstick and a quite a butt.

I wonder if Franco has really gone over to the Montenegro side. If he's going to double cross Erick in order to get back into the good graces of Eladio, he's playing with a dynamite fuse that's already been lit. He's pretty angry at Eladio right now, but Eladio has a lot more moola and prestige than what Erick can offer. Franco needs Eladio in order to become Eladio 2.0. He's definitely overconfident.

Tofie--Chimp-boy vs. Chump-boy. Great tag line. I also thought your advice to Julia was spot on--Forget Artie (it'll never work) start with a dating site.

Sorry for the Comment bombs, they just keep coming.

Anita,

I came across the phrase cazando musarañas in Detectives Salvajes by Roberto Bolaño. It's a colorful expression (I think Mexican) that means daydreaming. It struck my fancy so I co-opted it. So yes, now that I've retired from the active practice of medicine, I have a bit more time for cazando musarañas.

By the way, for anyone interested in engrossing as well as challenging contemporary literature in Spanish, I highly recommend that book as well as his epic last work 2666.

Carlos

yeah, Eladio met his match in Nina. First time he raised his voice or a hand to her he had better not doze off.

I can picture Eladio going after Nina to spite Arturo or Nina pursuing Eladio to spite Julia. It might also be interesting if the two of them joined forces and resources to thwart the would-be lovers. In any event, I can foresee Eladio and Nina interacting with each other at some point in the future. How ever they come together I expect there will be sparks and lots of entertainment for us.

Carlos

Just wanted to wish everybody a Happy New Year. Hope 2016 is the best year yet for the Caray Caray gang.

Also, a belated welcome to Nandicta. I'm really enjoying your comments. Morocco is one of my dream places to visit.

I've pretty much bailed on this one. I'm continuing to read the awesome blossom recaps and comments, though. There are a couple of plots I'm interested in seeing progress--Gabi/Augustin pairing, Caridad showing up and Karmageddon--especially Montseratt's.

Looking forward to the new historical starting in a few weeks.

Nanette

Nandicta---I hope that it isn't too late to reply to your comment from 1/3/16 7:39PM
I always like reading your comments, you write so eloquently. You asked me if I could imagine any other female PyP cast member looking that great in a color palette so difficult for us mere mortals to pull off? Well yes, Nina is strikingly
beautiful in all of her gorgeous dresses, jewelry, past and present hair styles. However you hit the nail on the head without even realizing it when you used the words "mere mortals." So I have to ask---how do you expect a bruja from the underworld to look, ugly? No of course not. The bruja will be beautiful (but not as beautiful as Julia) in all of her underworld glory. Yes stunning even in purple lipstick.

Another thing---You left out three words in your final paragraph. You said that they--Eladio y Nina behaved in a dignified manner (during the dinner.) Yes, that was true, they did, but you left out "cold as ice" before dignified manner. Bruja Nina is ALWAYS cold as ice with only a few exceptions. One being when she is PRAISING bruja junior Daniela--another is when she is PRAISING dumb ass Erick or when she wants some hot action under the sheets with Arturo. Any other times she is as cold and calculating as a snake before the strike.

Nandicta---I did love your right on comment about Gisela and Humberto. You nailed it perfectly. I must admit though that I get a kick out of Gisela, she's a hoot albeit a sad one. Gisela is like a pesky fly that just won't go away.

must see tv
the gringo

Hi gringo,

"...cold as ice..."?

Nina and Eladio? You must have been at a different dinner than the one I attended. They were both warm, charming, and engaging in marked contrast to Arturo and Julia who both looked like guilty adolescents caught in an illicit embrace. I actually felt a twinge of pity for the both of them.

Carlos

-- UA: Thanks for recapitulating what was revealed so far about the main foursome's respective backgrounds. I don't recall Eladio saying he was an orphan, just that he had a difficult childhood and that he grew up in poverty. However, to be fair we're so far along in this story my memory is getting sketchy. I also don't remember Nina saying she was a (wannabe) actress but, if this was mentioned in the first episodes, I was certainly still under the initial spell / shock of her tawdry accessories, curvaceous assets and neon lips! Therefore, I really appreciate you filling in the blanks for us. Cheers for that! :)

On a separate note, I feel from the comments that you and I are the odd ones out when it comes to the possibility of a Nina-Eladio hookup. Same as you, I don't think these two are a probable romantic match; I can see them joining forces to wreak havoc but hooking up seems far-fetched based on the character traits we were presented with so far. Nina was charmed by Eladio as a conversationalist and surprised he turned out to be very different from the picture that was depicted to her by her husband, that's all I got from the post-dinner impressions she shared with Arturo. Eladio on the other hand, was polite and gallant (a shocking sight indeed!) but he maintained his distance at all times, only addressing Nina as "Señora" and using the formal form "usted". In fact, I think he showed more respect towards Arturo's spouse than Arturo ever did with Julia.

Therefore, as you rightly pointed out, Nina and Eladio are unlikely to be a compatible love / lust pairing: Eladio is not as malleable and manipulable as Nina needs her romantic partner to be and Nina lacks the meek, innocent and butter-wouldn't-melt-in-my-mouth qualities that Eladio seeks in a (trophy) wife.

-- Niecie: "Julia, maybe living with Eladio all these years isn't the hell it seems? Must not be that bad, if you'll only bust out if Art is waiting for you." I understand her motivations for wanting to leave Eladio but Arturo is such a poor substitute! Like Tofie suggested in an earlier comment, divorce, therapy and (after some "alone-time") a dating site seem to be the recommended steps at this juncture in Julia's life.

As regards the makeover, Dani was sniggering at Petra and even did a subtle eye roll at one point. My impression is that she made her up in a clownish way to make fun of her and humiliate her but Petra did not gave the spoiled princess that pleasure. She genuinely loved her new look!

-- Delilah 63: I too am a big Susana González fan and though Julia frustrates me to no end, I still love to watch SG playing her. I can't think of anybody else who can play such a confused, pathetic, sniveling and repetitious character this well while captivating the viewers and commanding their attention every time she's on screen. Not even Adela Noriega could have played this role better and she's about the prettiest crier I know and so beautiful I could look at her all day.

As for Petra, she is immune to cruel jokes. She loved the Ninaesque lipstick and "pestañotas" (the big false eyelashes) and she was ready to rock her new look!

-- Diana: Sorry you were having a bad day. Hope it got better :)

-- Anita: Thanks for contributing "pensar en musarañas" to my vocabulary. I always appreciate learning new words and expressions! :)

-- Carlos: Thanks for the book recommendations and for the hilarious image you gave me by pairing Petra and Humberto! Oh, he'll be putty in her hands; nobody'll hear a peep out of him again! Forget "the stairs of doom" karmageddon, Death by Petra sounds way more entertaining! :D

-- Nanette: Thanks for your warm welcome and Happy New Year to you too! Hope you and your loves ones have a wonderful 2016! Please do join us in watching the show, it's not as dreary as we make it sound to be. :)

-- Gringo: Thank you for your kind words and believe me that the appreciation is mutual! I especially admire your sharp sense of humor and your astute observations. I gotta admit that with regards to my Nina comment, you really got me there! I did subconsciously admitted that Nina is not a "mere mortal" like the rest of us! Come to think of it, I believe she may be a vampire; that smooth wrinkle-free porcelain skin and those unbelievably perky bubble assets are very suspicious indeed! ;)

Moreover, I agree that Nina acted calmly during what many would consider an infuriating situation and I appreciate that she marked her territory in a calculated yet subtle way. That awkward dinner (thwarted render-vous attempt) had so much tension bubbling just under the surface, Nina's "cold as ice" and calculating personality proved useful to diffuse the tension and fill the awkward silences. Eladio on the other hand is incapable of maintaining a cool head when it comes to Julia and Arturo, this is the thing most likely to set him off, yet yesterday he was calm, collected and charming and this surprised me personally. Nina acting the way she did was expected given her personality but Eladio took me entirely by surprise to be honest.

Last but certainly not least, thanks for this little gem: "Gisela is like a pesky fly that just won't go away."! This joins "piss-ant errand boy" in my list of PyP's most accurate (and hilarious) character descriptions. :)

Thanks for this! I wish Julia would leave Elodio already! She is way too whiny for me. I definitely would love to see Nina and Elodio get together. Pasion y poder indeed :).
