Pasión y poder, U.S. Ep. 59 (Mex. 74 & 75), Thursday, January 28, 2016: How low can you go, Arturo Montenegro?

Episode 74 – Hell on Wheels

Arturo storms out of the room leaving Nina alone, her lips pale and sad.

The Gomez Luna family gathers around to comfort the weeping Gaby.  Julia, David and Eladio know she has broken her engagement to Franco.  It is her Uncle Eladio who asks why...

Caridad knows that the mouth-breather is involved with Franco.  And the mouth-breather knows that Caridad is Franco's mother.  Whoa.  Marintia boasts that Franco trusts her more than he does his prometida and assures Caridad that her secret is safe with her.  She and Franco were high school sweethearts whose romance has now been rekindled.  And she believes that he loves her, not Gaby.

Marintia feels that Caridad should understand better than anyone – she was once the other woman herself. But Franco's mother urges Gaby's adenoidal rival to set Franco free (like Julia's canaries?) and let him choose.

Marintia can't do that.  She begs for Caridad's help. Caridad shakes her head.  Yo no sé cómo ayudarte.  (I don't know how to help you.)

Gaby doesn't voice her suspicions about Franco.  In answer to Eladio's question, she says that she felt they were moving too fast and she was starting to have her doubts.  Julia hugs her and assures her that her family will support whatever decision she makes.  Eladio and David agree, though they exchange a brief, conspiratorial look.  (Women.  Who can understand them?)

Humberto chats on the phone with his new BFF Arturo.  He shares his latest idea for getting Julia and Eladio into a big fight.  Arturo is interested.  [What a jerk.]

Gaby receives what appears to be a large, clumsy window box of flowers from Agustín.  When Franco sees them, he flexes his jaw (because he is acting) and demands to know who sent them.

Agustín gives Arturo a progress report on his wooing of Gaby.  At first, Arturo objects, but after a moment's reflection, he decides that the coupling could be useful to Grupo Montenegro.  Agustín refuses to go Machiavellian.  His feelings for Gaby are genuine and have nothing to do with Arturo's feud with Eladio.  In fact, he is counting on Arturo to back him up, if necessary, because he plans to tell Gaby about Franco's attempts at blackmail.

Franco screams at Gaby:  "Who sent you the flowers?"  She finally tells him it was Agustín and then storms out of the room, leaving him alone with his ill-temper.  He dumps the flowers on the rug and flexes his jaw.

Evidently putting his new plan in action, Humberto invades Eladio's office at GLA.  He didn't know how to say it, he begins, but he's ashamed of his daughter's behavior: when Julia was at the beach, she was with Arturo.  Supposedly, he was there looking for his son, but they both know he's still in love with Julia...

Humberto notes the smoke coming out of Eladio's ears and bravely continues:

... and that's why Montenegro is divorcing his wife.  Humberto overheard them discussing it when Arturo came to the house.  That's all he knows – Eladio will have to get the details from Julia.

Eladio storms out of the office.  Humberto breathes a sigh of relief.

Onsite at the condominiums they will be selling, Julia's female colleague and mentor points out to the newbie that their boss is being a little too nice to her – she suspects he may have the hots for her.

Stellaaaaaaa!  Julia!  Eladio rushes into the mansion and bellows for his wife.  Simona tells him she's at work.  Eladio calls Julia.  When she doesn't answer, he leaves a voicemail:  "When you listen to this message, come home!  I'm waiting for you."

Julia hasn't noticed any funny stuff from Mr. Farres, but she'll be on the alert now.  Her colleague says she was bothered at first because the boss seemed to be playing favorites.  She doesn't feel that way anymore because she knows Julia is one of the good guys (eres muy buena onda) who knows how to share.

Julia's phone sounds.  She glances at it and sees that the call is from Eladio, but doesn't answer because she wants to finish this conversation.  She says she has no intention of taking anything away from anyone else.  Her colleague smiles: "What's the difference who makes the sale if we share the commission anyway?"   The women shake hands.  All is well.  While her associate goes to get some keys, Julia listens to Eladio's message and smiles fondly.  But her smile turns to consternation when she looks up and sees Arturo.  The sale of his condos could not be in better hands than hers, he tells her smoothly.

Franco confronts Agustín and warns him to stay away from Gaby.  Agustín treats him with the contempt he deserves and declares his interest in Gabriela.

Not only didn't Julia know the complex was Arturo's, it seemed odd that the boss asked her, a beginner, to sell the units.  Arturo admits it's not a coincidence – he approached her boss because he wanted to help her.  Besides, this way they can meet and talk...

Julia repeats that she and Eladio are doing well.  She doesn't want Arturo's help or his company.  And if she once told him she loved him, she also told him they couldn't be together.  He may be ready to divorce his wife, but she is not divorcing her husband.  She will not sell his condos, even if it means she has to quit her job.

Now it is Julia's turn to storm away, leaving her colleague to talk to the stalker gentleman.

Humberto tells Eladio that Julia is setting a bad example for Gaby, who just broke up with Franco and now is getting flowers from another man.  Eladio loses his temper with the nasty little trouble-maker.  ¡Que se vaya!  he shouts.  Humberto backs his chair out of the room.

Julia arrives home, hankie in hand.  She has just quit her job.  Her boss had put her in charge of selling a whole condominium and told her she had to meet with the owner.  And the owner turned out to be Arturo!

"You resigned because of that?"

"Everything is going well between us and I don't want anything to separate us."

Eladio can scarcely believe his ears.  Does he really matter so much to her?  He does... ever since that time at the beach when she realized she had never given him a chance to show his affection.  And now?  And now, she's never been happier.

"Not even with Arturo?"

"No.  For me, there's no 'before' with Arturo. For me, you're my present and I love you.  I love you as I never imagined I could love."

She swears she'll show her love every day.  They embrace.

Gaby visits Agustín in his office.  She doesn't want him courting her, she tells him.  He says his interest in her is serious.  He is looking toward the future and he urges her to do the same.

Eladio asks Julia what happened at the beach that made her decide to give him another chance.  Will he promise not to get mad?  He promises.

"When I was at the beach, Arturo and I ran into each other (coincidimos)..."

Eladio literally braces himself for what he is about to hear, crossing his arms on his chest:  "What was he doing there?  Was he looking for you?"

"No, he was actually looking for his son because of the thing with Montserrat."

"And you talked to him about the two of you?"

"Yes, we talked about the past, and about when he asked me to marry him..."

As Eladio listens, he clenches his fist, and rubs his thumb against his index finger over and over.

Agustín isn't having a lot of luck persuading Gaby to his way of thinking.  She tells him:

No me lo tomes a mal, pero jamás podría andar contigo.
(Don't take this the wrong way, but I could never go out with you.)

He laughs.  Is he really that ugly?  She smiles too, but then says she can't date him because of her loyalty to her aunt and uncle.  He says they are both mature enough to handle the situation.  And for him, it would be worth it.  His interest is serious.  Yo... contigo me casaría, Gabriela.  (I... I'd marry you, Gabriela.)

Julia continues:  She and Arturo remembered so many things.  And all of a sudden she realized she had closed a circle with Arturo.

Hearing these words, Eladio's face begins to soften slightly.

"And I could tell him that he had his life and I had mine, and that I had resigned myself to staying with the man who had made me suffer so much."

"You resigned yourself?"

"Yes, that's what I told him because I didn't expect you to change so much for the good.  But you know what?  I suppose that somehow, without knowing it, I already cared for you.  From that moment on, I started to love you more and more... and I have to confess that many times, even though we were quarreling, I wanted you close to me, to touch me, to embrace me...

"And many times, when I felt locked up in this house, I wanted to be free, free of your jealousy, free of the memory of Arturo – so I could love you."

"Thank you for telling me the truth, Julia.  That's the proof that you love me."

"I love you and I can't live without you," she says.

Eladio takes her in his arms.  He promises he will always be there to hold her.  Always.

Humberto is practically licking his chops as he rolls into Eladio's study.  Did Eladio tell off Julia?  Eladio lets him know that Julia told him the truth and all is well between them.  And if the old man tries anything else to mess with their marriage – he emphasizes his message by grabbing Humberto's scrawny neck – he's not going to forgive him.

"Is that clear?"  When Eladio finally releases him, Humberto is gasping for air.  Eladio replaces his oxygen mask and sends him on his way.

The next morning, Nina and Arturo are squabbling when Eladio shows up at the GM offices with a bottle of champagne.  He thanks Arturo for trying to separate him from Julia – with his actions, he managed to bring them even closer together.  The bottle is his apology for stealing his best saleswoman. From now on, Julia – his wife – is going to sell what he, Eladio, builds.

Nina looks on, her lips redder, but still sad.

Episode 75 – Character Assassination (But did he really do it?)

Julia tells her boss, Mr. Farres, that she can't sell the Montenegro condos, but she can sell Gómez Luna real estate.   Mr. Farres is skeptical.  Getting the Montenegro business was a miracle, but GLA?  Julia smiles slyly as she informs her boss that Eladio Gómez Luna is her husband.

Eladio says Julia herself told him how she rejected Arturo at the beach.  But Arturo says he doesn't believe him.  "You sink lower every day," Nina tells her husband.

On his way out of GM, Eladio runs into Agustín.  He accuses him of using Gaby to get at him, and says he won't permit it.  Agustín assures him that his interest in Gaby is personal.  He reminds Eladio that:

El mundo no gira en torno a la rivalidad que tienen tú y Arturo.
(The world doesn't revolve around the rivalry between you and Arturo.)

Mr. Farres tells Julia that he hired her before Arturo ever talked to him.  She got her position on her own merits (a pulso).   She is pleased.  He also tells her he meant no harm by asking her to sell the Montenegro properties: Arturo said he was a friend and wanted to help out.  Now Julia proposes a win-win proposition:  the real estate agency can handle all the GLA sales.  Her boss happily accepts the deal, and they shake on it.

Caridad seeks out her ungrateful child in his glass cubicle.  As usual, he brushes her off with insults.  And as usual, she refuses to be dismissed so easily – she wants to be there when he needs her.  As a matter of fact, he says, he does need her for something – he needs her to "have the courage to tell everyone that I'm Eladio's son!"

Caridad's hopeful expression fades.  "What's the matter?" he asks.  "You're not going to do it?  Then don't come looking for me anymore!"

Caridad doesn't want Julia to know that she and Eladio betrayed her.  Julia doesn't deserve that.

"But I deserve to be humiliated, right?"

"Don't yell at me! Eladio is the one who didn't have the guts to acknowledge you."

As for telling Julia the truth, would Franco hurt the woman who has always treated him so well without even knowing he is Eladio's son?

Given what Eladio has just said, Nina begs Arturo to concede defeat and forget about Julia.  There's still time for them to save their marriage – she still loves him.  But Arturo says it's not possible.  It's not because of Julia.  Yo simplemente no quiero hacerlo.  (I simply don't want to do it.)  Does it seem so wrong that he just wants to feel alive again?

Nina asks tearfully:
¿A ti te parece justo matarme en vida?
(Does it seem fair to take my life from me?)

She will make the effort for both of them.  Maybe it won't be the same as before, but at least they can try.  She doesn't know what happened at the beach – it hurts even to think about it – but she is willing to forgive everything so they can start again.

Arturo hugs her, even as he whispers to the Patio: No.  Never.

No, Franco won't harm Julia.  Caridad is delighted – this shows her son is a good man.  Then her good son warns her to stay away from Gaby... And speaking of Gaby, was Caridad the person who told her about the car?  Caridad is so anxious to defend herself that she accidentally reveals that it was Clara.  Doh.  Franco twirls his invisible Snidely Whiplash moustache and swears that Clara will pay.

Marintia insists – loudly, shrilly and recursively – that she is innocent.  Eladio tells her to shut up.  [The Patio thanks him.  It's annoying to have to keep turning the volume down, especially when you're trying to take notes.] He knows perfectly well there is something going on between her and Franco.  When Franco enters, he also denies the obvious.  Nevertheless, Eladio forbids him to have any contact with the mouth-breather, whom he now orders out of the office.

Eladio focuses on Franco:  "If I find out that you've cheated on Gaby without my authorization, you'll find out what it means to have me working against you."  (That is, Franco can cheat on Gaby only when his daddy tells him to, right?)

Julia's boss, Mr. Farres, meets with Arturo in the GM offices.  Even though Julia will be selling GLA properties rather than his own, Arturo will keep his business at the real estate agency as long as Julia is working there.

When Mr. Farres leaves, Humberto rolls in silently with another poisonous proposal.  He has remembered something out of Eladio's past that they can use to destroy him.  The corners of Arturo's lips twitch upward.

Julia has spent her very first commission on a gift for Eladio.  She has evidently been listening in to the conversations on the Patio because it's a new watch.  Eladio is touched by the loving gesture.  He removes the watch he is wearing and puts on his new favorite one.  They hug.  They get excited...

Caridad chooses that exact moment to walk in, saying Marintia told her Eladio wanted to talk to her.  Julia gets up from the desk, a mischievous smile on her face.  Eladio's expression matches her own.  She laughs out loud, blows Eladio a kiss, and says she'll see him at home.

Caridad says somewhat bitterly that if she had known the truth about their marriage, she'd never have gotten involved with him.  He tells her it was different then.  She hopes the change lasts, she says, because Julia deserves it.

Without any pretense of a transition, the scene shifts to the Gómez Luna mansion, where Julia is wishing Eladio luck.  She is sure he'll be elected president of the Businessman's Association (BA).  Then the rolling cloud of doom enters holding today's newspaper.  "Have you seen this, Eladio?"

Julia takes the paper, looks at it, and turns pale.  She passes it to Eladio.  "Who wrote this?" he barks. Humberto shrugs.

Over a large photo of Eladio, the banner headline screams:
Sospechan de Gómez Luna
(GL Suspected).

Eladio reads aloud:

"Eladio Gómez Luna, a candidate for the presidency of the Businessman's Association, is suspected of murdering his first partner."

Then he throws down the paper in disgust.  Julia wants to know why they are saying that.  The always helpful Humberto explains: Eladio was alone with the man when he died in his office; and since Eladio was his only heir, it raised a lot of suspicion.

Eladio says there was no motive.  Besides, his partner was sick and it was his heart that killed him.  Humberto claims he is only repeating what was rumored at the time.

With an air of satisfaction, Arturo is looking at that same front page.  He tells Erick that the article says that Mr. Smith, who left his money to Eladio, suffered from heart disease.  On the day of his death, they couldn't find his pillbox in the office.  Erick and Arturo are sure that was no coincidence.

Before they can carry their theory any further, Nina enters.  She wants to speak to Arturo privately.

As soon as Erick leaves, she asks if he has thought about what she said the day before.

"I don't want to be rude," begins Arturo, in one of the most self-serving and insensitive speeches the Patio has heard in a long while, "we were happy for many years.  You are an exceptional woman, but I think we have to close the circle.  I thank you for your support and for the children you gave me, but finally I think that love..."

Fortunately, Nina interrupts him.  She just came to bring him his lucky tie.  She's going to support him in the association elections, as always.  She even offers to help him with the tie, though he turns her down.  "Actually, no one is going to vote for Eladio," he says casually, "after they read what this article says."  Nina stares at the paper and then at her husband.  Does she smell a rat?

Regina is busy architecting in Monterrey, when a very attractive young man suddenly appears and greets her by name.  He is Jorge Pérez and they know each other from way back.  Regina gasps happily – she didn't recognize him! – and gives him a big hug.  Naturally, David comes by at that very moment and sees the blissed-out face of the stranger in the arms of his beloved.  He is not amused.

Eladio tells Julia that Mr. Smith was like a father to him.  It was so awful (espantoso).  He tried CPR, but it was too late.

"Surely you don't think I would hurt someone who was so good to me?  He was the one who provided all the money for our first hotel.  Yes, I provided the labor and experience, but he's the one who gave me a start."

Julia nods sympathetically.

Humberto says: "Yes, it's true, he had no one – and you won his affection.  That's why he left everything to you."

The accusation hidden behind the words enrages Eladio.  He rushes toward Humberto, who cowers in his chair.  Julia cries out to Eladio, who stops, his arm in the air and poised to strike.

Avances: The already splintered Montenegro clan will be further shattered by a ratings-goosing tragedy.

Oh dear. Another smushed episode with all the transitions cut out. I did the best I could, folks.

Thank You Thank You NovelaMaven, You really sorted out this jumbled mess.

Old Bad Penny Hummy sure gets around, he just pops up everywhere. Id be tying a cowbell on that silent little machine he is on.

We saw that the old Eladio is not dead. Did anyone catch his reaction when he and Augustino were sparring in the hallway and Elad started walking away? Auggy grabbed his arm because he was not finished talking to Elad. Eladio literally barked at him, and I fully expected a smackdown. It was like "How dare you touch the king?"

"You don't cheat on Gabi without my permission." old habits die hard.

Sheezo Susana can be sexy when she turns it on. I,ve been in Luuurve with her longer than you Eladio.

NovelaMaven, I always look forward to your recaps. Your humor and wry wit add an extra layer of warmth and sunshine to even the coldest, dreariest winter days.

Pure heaven. "Arturo storms out of the room leaving Nina alone, her lips pale" and "sad adenoidal rival" were among many favorites.

Frankly, I'm confused. My emotions are running the gamut from surprise, to dismay to disgust in too rapid a succession.

How fortunate that Julia has impeccable timing and has been able to forestall Eladio's anger just when the odious Humberto's poison starts taking effect. If Julia had not resigned and tearfully confessed her growing love and confidence in Eladio, what would have happened?

I find myself thinking I should start rooting for Eladio and then we are burdened with hearing "If I find out that you've cheated on Gaby without my authorization, you'll find out what it means to have me working against you." What's a girl to think??

And while initially I thought there might be hope for Arturo, "we were happy for many years. You are an exceptional woman, but I think we have to close the circle. I thank you for your support and for the children you gave me, but finally I think that love..." was simply painful to read.

I am afraid for Clara who has done nothing but try and help others. Franco desperately need anger management treatment and quickly.

I still have a softspot for Augustin. I wish he'd back off a bit and give Gaby a fleeting glimpse of who he is, rather than steamrolling in when she hasn't even been able to absorb the pain and come to terms with her breakup of Franco.

I hope Nina takes Arturo to the cleaners...

Until Eladio tells Julia about Franco, Caridad, etc. there can truly be no forward movement.

I still don't see any galans on the horizon but the story is fascinating enough to be intriguing and thought provoking.

Thanks again NovelaMaven!

Diana

NovelaMaven- You did a fantastic job, despite the clumsy chop job Uni did. Seems like we misled a lot of needed transition scenes.

Julia couldn't have been more clear. What more does Art need to hear? I even felt bad for Nina.

Love that Humberto's first plan flopped so majorly. I was not looking forward to seeing Eladio and Julia fighting again. Looked like we were about to have one as explosive as the staircase fall fight.

Missed, not misled.

Dani= cheating authorized by Eladio. Marintia does not.

One thing I wanted to mention.

When Julia and Eladio were trying to start an amorous adventure, did anyone else think there was a table malfunction?

Susanna started laughing and so did Fernando. I think she almost fell off the table and they both seemed to come out of character a bit...

Diana

Thank you very much for the recap!

Vivi: Franco better NOT lay a hand on Clara because Francisco will kick his butt if that happens!

Kirby: Augustin needs to take the hint & forget about Gaby! Sounds very stalker like CBS' "Stalker"!

Urban: Old Goat Humberto needs to go away. He's getting on my nerves!

Gracias, NovelaMaven. I don't suspect that this was compressed; a lot was missing from episode #75.

Missing scenes in order, starting from the end of #74:

At some point after Eladio's encounter with Augustin, Gabriela went to GLA to talk to Eladio about the broken engagement. Eladio is OK with Gabriela stalling things with Franco, but doesn't like the idea of G taking up with Aug, which represents a conflict of interest. We learn two things:

-- Aug is a shareholder of GM but we don't know what percentage
-- Gabriela has known Franco "all your life" so she's living with Julia and Eladio longer than we previously thought. (What's up with her parents, anyway?)

Justino looked for Clara and found her in Franco's office. He tells her he misses her and then plants one on her. Franco turns up at that moment and uses the non-fraternization rule against her by firing her. He suspends Justino. Clara says she doesn't care and she'll be happier out of GLA, then leaves.

That was followed by the scene with the new watch. Julia has good taste and it even matches Eladio's suit of the day.

More in next post.

"When Franco sees them, he flexes his jaw (because he is acting)". Impeccable NM! What a great recap of some very interesting plot movements last night.

Best part of last night--that crap table in Eladio's office that can't hold anything heavier than a book? Hysterical, and I wonder if that was one massive ad lib they kept in. For all your money dude, invest in some better office furniture.

Wow, from Julia last night. So deep, deep, deep down she maybe stuck around for 20 years with the abuse because she actually loved Eladio more and more and didn't want to leave? Ok then. I'm just rolling with that. So now they are a pair and she'll most likely be blind to whatever and we know the drill...

Because it was pretty evident last night you still do not mess with this man. Personally, I'm all for him beating the crap or cutting the oxygen of that twit Humberto. He needs to go. I can't "root" for Eladio because it seems to me he would hurt an innocent if it means getting what he wants. Can't warm up to someone like that. If there is supposed to be some sort of "love story" with Julia at the center...leaves me cold. Don't really care who she gets. If she was smart, she would have left both of them with her son long ago.

As for the other side of this triangle, Art is just an ass. He spoke to Nina as if he was ending a business transaction, and listening to that I realized, that's it. He treats everyone and everything as if it's work and his personal interactions are contracts people have signed into, rules to follow or contract is broken. Explains maybe why the man even works from home in a suit and tie. What a sad way to be. And now that his "contract" relationships are breaking, he is mentally losing it and even destroying the few positive people he had around him.

That said, I just wonder how long that Augustin puts up with this crap between these two men? If it means he would lose Gaby will he turn on Artie, and work to take down Eladio. He knows A LOT of secrets. I don't see himever aligning with Eladio, but he could really bring both these idiots down. And I'll be rooting him on if he does.

Seriously with the guy now in to mess with David and Gina? Seriously?

Daisynjay

Justino later went to Consuelo's place to see Clara.

After the scene with Caridad and Franco in his office, Gabriela finds major flowers in the parlor at the GL mansion with a note from Franco, who must have teleported there. He tried to make up with her but she stalls for time. He grimaces toward us, which tells us he is not exactly sincere in telling her he loves her. He then adjusts his face to try to give her back the ring.

David and Regina had coffee and talked about work. She saw the news story about Eladio on her tablet and showed it to him.

Scene with Julia and Eladio, then scene with Arturo and Nina in his office. After that:

Regina and David talked about the news story. He didn't buy it and made a comparison to the story about Erick being suspected of being The Man From Orkin.

Arturo and Erick talked about the upcoming vote for the presidency of the business association. Assmore showed up with a gift for Arturo (We don't see what it is, but Arturo is politely impressed). Angeles listens at the door and hears something about Assmore's son-in-law. She called Franco to tell him about it. As he ended the call Caridad tried to talk to him but he exited the office.

Regina introduced David to Jorge Perez, who used to work for Arturo. She left with Jorge to check on something. David looked jealous.

Segue to last scene where Eladio denied the charges and went after Humberto.

Diana the 'luuurve on the table' thing was funny as all hell. Eladio muttered something, I thought it was excuse me. It looked so unrehearsed to me too. Eladio and Julia both seemed too giggly for Caridad to have barged in on an intimate moment. Julia was still laughing as she blew Eladio a goodbye kiss.

Augustin should lay off Gaby. Wait until she is married to Franco for a couple months, then have an affair with her as her divorce lawyer.

Steve: Agreed, someone needs to beat Franco nearly to death. On second thought, that didn't work before, just kill him and solve a L O T of peoples problems. Are you listening Eladio?

OK, here goes:

I don't believe Eladio's denials. I think he is responsible for that man's death. The way he kept looking away from Julia and the way he went after Humberto makes that clear to me. He may have let something slip to Humberto at some point long before the story began and Humberto stores all this up to use later, just like Eladio does.

Doesn't Nina know that the purple lipstick makes her look harder and older? We know how vain she is and how she takes antioxidant pills (and probably biotin and others) to keep up her looks. How is it that she fails to see that the purple lipstick really isn't flattering (at least not with this set of clothes and this hairstyle)?

Is Jorge meant to be a relative of Nina's or did Nina change her name before she met Arturo? I know that there are not as many surnames in Spanish as in English, but you'd think the writers wouldn't have named him this without a reason.

According to IMDb, tonight is when episode 85 airs in Mexico. I'd rather we not catch up too much more.

Thank you NovelaMaven. Great job.

My favorites were "Hell on wheels" and "flexes his jaw".

I loved the title. Arturo did hit a new low tonight- leaking that story about Eladio's past to win the presidency.

Glad that Julia and Eladio didn't end up in yet another argument.

Eladio grabbing Hummy by the throat- awesome. He certainly deserved it.

"If I find out that you've cheated on Gaby without my authorization, you'll find out what it means to have me working against you."

Oh Eladio. That doesn't make you look good at all.

Thank you Urban for filling in what was left out.

More on Clara and Justino:

At the office, after the first kiss, Clara admits to Justino that she can't stop thinking about him. He admits that he can't stop thinking about her too.

When Justino visits Clara at Consuelo's apartment, she asks him why he kissed her. He tells her that he can't control what he feels for her anymore, but admits to feeling like he is cheating on Maribel, even though he knows she has passed away. He apologizes to her and leaves.

UA, thank you for all the additional information.

It sounds as though we missed important events and critical to our understanding of the story and development of the plot line.

It's really a shame.

I'm happy Franco fired Clara. She deserves so much better!

And I'm uneasy now wondering if Eladio did have something to do with the man's death. Not quite sure if a murderer can be redeemed (?) Has this happened before?

Diana

Not to my knowledge, Diana. I believe that murder is irredeemable.

Caridad's killing of her husband was to protect Franco so that doesn't qualify, but killing a business partner to take over his share of the company or to prevent exposure of something dirty is so cold-blooded that nothing short of life without parole qualifies as punishment along with seizure of assets for an audit. There is no statute of limitations on murder and if there is any evidence that Eladio committed murder his holdings could be in limbo for years with forensic accountants.

Ah NovelaMaven, even a smushed episode with ratchety transitions can't mess up your smooth and witty way of telling a story. The vile Humberto brings out the best in you--Hell On Wheels is hysterical, and Rolling Cloud of Doom a close second. Was really hoping Eladio would choke him to death (does this make me a bad person?)but Ol' Humberto really didn't break stride. Once he got a little more oxygen in him, bam! he was over at Arturo's fomenting more destruction. Guess the hopes of some dinero to gamble is a powerful motivator.

And thanks for highlighting the famous jaw flex method of acting. That seemed to be Alexis Ayala's (sp?) specialty as well. At any rate, the actor playing Franco has a very nice jaw, so he can flex it all he wants. Cool with me.

As a dunder-headed romantic, delighted that Julia and Eladio resolved his suspicions so quickly in this episode, but sounds like there are more clouds on the horizon. Fasten your seat belts.

Appreciated the Spanish dialogue...I tried to write down JUST those phrases as I watched, but messed up in a few points. So now I have it straight.

Always a pleasure to read your well-crafted prose. Keep 'em coming!

Thanks, Novelamaven...such a treat to have a Novelamaven recap to read this morning.

I have not read all the comments yet, but I have to comment on a few things. First, Eladio seemed truly touched when Julia gave him the watch. He acted as though he had never received a gift before. Second, NIni looked truly devastated and crushed at the end. She seems to have really loved Art not just his cash and their love life . Later, Susanlynn♥

Oh and thanks for the shoutout to Marlon Brando. Still remember Marlon in his wife-beater shirts (now there's a fashion statement for you). Better than Eladio's pj's which frankly, I find dorky.

Judy, is that because we're so used to seeing novela actors in just briefs or in nothing? I think these PJs are so the makeup department doesn't have to put that fake tat on FC every day.

I'm also leaning towards Eladio having killed his first partner in order to get all his money. In any case, I definitely think the writers want us to be uncertain about this. Just add it to one more thing, like Caridad-Franco, that will eventually blow up his newly good relationship with Julia and David.

Urban- Thanks for some of the missing scenes!

I agree, that Clara is probably better off not working at GLA and under Franco's thumb anymore. She's learning computer skills from Miguel, and has her clothing/shoes sales business. She'll manage.

Another day, another combining of episodes cutting out lots of scenes for seemingly no reason other than to torture me! I assume it will be more of the same tomfoolery tonight. Thanks for the recap NovelaMaven and also a big thank you to Urban for filling in all the scenes that were nonsensically removed from the US viewing.

I love that rather than reshoot, they kept in the obvious blooper of Eladio putting Julia on the table and it almost flipping over twice. It felt so unplanned and real and if you look at Caridad's face when she comes to the door and sees it, it looks like she's trying not to crack a smile or maybe I'm seeing things. Everyone was so professional and just kept going and it totally worked with the playfulness of Eladio and Julia in that moment and Caridad's speech to him afterwards and Susana's laugh as she was leaving the scene said it all. I loved it.

Nina brought out her inner Consuelo last night begging a man who has treated her like garbage, played and is still playing head games with her and is lusting after another woman quite openly at this point in the way we saw Consuelo do time and time again with Erick before she came to her senses. It was not an attractive look on her. Nina may be someone who loves money and power and the idea of being Mrs. Montenegro but I think it's quite clear that she does genuinely loves him and would rather still be married to him than divorced and living off his riches.

I genuinely could not care less about Gabi/Augustin and I really don't see that changing. They just do nothing for me and his pursuit of her has been strong and extra creepy from jump. Perhaps I am remembering it wrong, but when he first met her and found out who she was, didn't he mention something about her Mom? Like how he used to have a crush on her? I don't know..but I feel like something like that happened and it makes him wanting Gabi even more off putting. I know the age difference between the actors isn't that big but Gabi is playing younger than the actress..college age and Auggie is playing older, probably mid 40's. I just can't get into them.

More later, but just had to weigh in on the jammies. I love them. They make me think of bunny slippers and hot cups of cocoa and forget all about Rodenticide, cantankerous old women scared to death and left to fester in canals or inconvenient lovers stashed in prison for years on end. Maybe they are just a device to spare makeup the trouble of putting on the fake tattoo, but the device is nonetheless an inspired one.

Yeah, Clara is better off NOT working at GLA.

In fact, in one of the cut scenes from Wednesday night, Franco tortures Clara some more by kicking over a bucket of water and having her mop the floor again after she had just finished and was ready to head on home to get some rest.

Later, Clara tells Consuelo about what Franco did, and Consuelo offers to ask Miguel to give Clara a job at GM, but Clara refuses, because she still thinks that Consuelo wants to keep her distance from Miguel. That's when Consuelo tells Clara about the feelings that she has for Miguel.

Hope that Clara is able to get a job at GM.

NovelaMaven, the jammies make me think of bunny slippers too.

Anon207, when Augie and Gaby first met, I remember that he asked her if she was the daughter of Amanda, Julia's sister.

This comment has been removed by the author.

Has Clara really laid it out clearly for Caridad what a jerk her son is? It doesn't seem she's really educated Caridad on the kind of person her sweet baby boy is. Not like he's hiding it from Caridad, but it seems like she needs to hear it from someone else.

Anon321- Like Mauricio said, he just immediately knew she was Amanda's daughter. He never said anything about having a thing for Amanda back in the day. We just made all that stuff up ourselves, but the characters have never given any indication that Auggie used to have a thing for Amanda.

Novelamaven...When I see Eladio in those jimjams, I think of Captain Kirk on the Starship Enterprise going where no man has gone before. I keep waiting for Scotty to beam him up. Those jammies do make him look sweet and cuddly which I don't think is a look that he normally goes for. Do they even make pjs for guys anymore?...Susanlynn, pajama police

Daisynjay..That was a great analysis of Art..all business all the time. Also, I , too, had the feeling that Auggie may be getting tired of cleaning up all Art's family messes and jump over to the good ship Eladio. That would be interesting since he is Art's only confident and the only one who has Art's back. I would get really tired of that job.

Whoops the above comment is Mine..Susanlynn♥

Thanks for clearing that up for me guys but him knowing Gabi's Mother from back in the day just adds credence to the idea that the character is supposed to be older than the actor playing him, more in line with the parents' age group and she's a student in the Regina age group and it's just not good, for me at least. Any chemistry they are supposed to have which I am not seeing certainly doesn't mask that for me, plus again.. his creepiness. No.

Most of the PJs for men I've seen are more like Arturo's blue cotton ones from the opening episode. They look looser and more comfortable. Men's PJs are typically about comfort so Eladio's look to me like they're warmer and typically worn during colder weather.

I agree that Augustin's pursuit of Gabriela isn't right even in absence of the family feud. I haven't liked this from the beginning. I can't see that they would have anything in common.

There was something early on about the deceased Mr. Smith. I can't remember who, either Elad or Art had a picture of a "Somebody Smith" on a top shelf in a little corner cabinet. And somebody owed him a debt of gratitude. Even at the time, there was something mysterious about him.

"I agree that Augustin's pursuit of Gabriela isn't right even in absence of the family feud. I haven't liked this from the beginning. I can't see that they would have anything in common."

Oh but they DO have something in common. Given her hemline, they both like her legs.

Thank you for the great recap. Wow, especially for filling in where Uni chopped chunks off.

I agree with Anon321, although Nina is all about the money and status, I have reached the point where I sympathize with her. She does love Arturo, and I will bet this is a nightmare for her that he is just tossing her over and does no longer even deny his feelings or obsession. I hope she gets her half, we never saw her look at another man except when she tried to flirt w Eladio, but that was to help her keep her husband, I think. Is it okay to ask how to view the uncut versions of the tn? Recaps are so good, sometimes its hard to tell which parts are the ones that were cut or if It is a scene that was there but I missed. I really am liking Elodio, wow, I now can see how it was possible that after 25 years, Julia discovers she just never allowed herself to love him because she was pining after Art. Once she saw that and the effort that Elo is making to gain her love, it is nice to watch their love bloom and the chemistry is very obvious hot. Anyways, I am not blind to several ugly traits I still see on Elo, but I dont think he can totally change his persona just like that. I am mesmerized by his gestures and facial expressions. Like when Augustin reached for his arm, and FC brushed him off agressively looking totally bad ass, puts his sunglasses on as he walks away. Good acting. Like Gringo says: must watch tv, can't wait, can't wait.
Leticia

It was Eladio who showed David the picture of Smith (tucked into a drawer) and told him the story of Smith giving him his start, after Papa Montenegro kicked him out and accused him falsely (according to Eladio) of fraud. This was when he was trying to explain why he hates the Montenegros so much and convince David to work for him.

Always love the romp NovelaMaven. It takes me twice the time to read your recaps, rereading the funnies.

"he flexes his jaw (because he is acting)"

I don't mind direct. What I don't understand is the swoon expected when a macho man gets in your face, unsolicited, and says you must be delicious, somebody gotta eat you and it might as well be him. No friggin wonder Agustin hasn't a woman. Like he is out with Will Ferrel and Chris Kattan at the Roxbury.

That was no hug I'd expect by someone you couldn't even remember. What is Regina doing?

Tofie- I saw the full scene of Regina and new guy. They actually grew up together. He is the son of their old gardener, and then he worked for her father in construction, but she hasn't seen him in years since they were teens. They have both obviously grown up a lot, which is why it took her a bit to recognize the man in front of her. So the hug was a genuine big hug for someone she knew well as a kid and was pleased to see again after a long time.

Thank You Vivi. Makes you wonder about Papa Montenegro too. IE: there are three sides to every story, your side, my side, and the truth.

One has to wonder, that after all these years, Eladio still keeps a picture of Mr. Smith nearby and speaks fondly of him.

Thank you Vivi. I saw what David saw, a full body hug with another man he didn't know.

Vivi..It makes sense with your explanation why Regina did not recognize that guy. Hub often hauls over someone from the past that he runs into and says to me "Do you know who this is?" No..no I don't. Very embarrassing.

OT..Vivi..Starz Outlander has cast Brianna...a young English actress named Sofie Skeleton...very pretty. Rik Rankin will be Roger.

UA...I'm sure that fake tattoo is a pain to put on. But once you mentioned Arturo jams, I've got to say I like those better. And right now, that's the only thing I like better about Arturo.

Perhaps Eladio's cozy jams are supposed to be a clue to the soft, vulnerable emotional center under the hard ass exterior.

But I don't like 'em. And I'd hate to see Colunga in bunny slippers either. Now must go back and recheck that desk top blooper!

Susanlynn-- You're getting me excited for the new season of Outlander! :)

Vivi..It is supposed to start in April. Have you googled it? The costumes and settings are unbelievable. Have you read the books? I have read all 8. The author is currently writing #9. What a saga fir all hopeful romantics of true love that lasts a lifetime .

Susanlynn♥

Judyb...So Eladio is a tootsie pop with a hard outside but a soft, gooey interior. Did you notice how emotionally overcome he got when Julia gave him the new watch? Maybe he will stop wearing that huge clock on his wrist. Note to Eladio...Take off the watch when you put on those cozy jammies. Susanlynn♥

Mauricio: You maybe right about Clara being better off not working at GLA anymore!

What odds do you give her working at Montenegro ?

I have wondered whether Eladio actually has some kind of respiratory problem and the spray is medicinal.

As to PJs, I think the only time I've ever seen JS in them before was in MCET because that was PG rated rather than the TV14 that this is.

NovelaMaven--I keep running out of laudable words to describe your recaps. Thank you. I wasn't paying as much attention last night as I could have so I appreciate the recap doubly.

The table mishap--I just glossed over it and thought it was a bit gross for them to start making out in the office with the door unlocked. With all the comments regarding it, now it seems really funny. I must go back and rewind to get the full effect, including Caridad's reaction.

All these characters tire me out with all their shenanigans. Are there ANY who have been consistent? Ok, Daniela has. Can't wait for her next caper. Will she go after Franco?

I've been waiting for Kirby's evaluation of Eladio's new watch. I think he just traded in a square one for a round one.

Glad Artie got burned over the exclusive contract for Julia to sell his condos. If I liked Artie any more, I would suggest he quick put a lot of his wealth in his childrens' names. It *has* been done before.

I still don't think Artie is Nina's one true love. Her hormone levels have never waned. She's still in seduction mode. True it has been to her advantage that Art matched her desires and ability. Now what? I agree, that speech sounded more like the end of a business arrangement, not a marriage. How much lower is Art going to get before *something* comes back to hit him in the schnozz.

Anita, I just love your comments. You always make the most brilliant observations, most of which never crossed my mind.

Today, it was "I still don't think Artie is Nina's one true love. Her hormone levels have never waned. She's still in seduction mode. True it has been to her advantage that Art matched her desires and ability. Now what?"

I can't wait to find out.

Diana

Ah, Diana, the Goddess of Wisdom--I think you muffed this one. Anita is humbled to be placed in the same company as you, Vivi, NovelaMaven and all the others she looks up to on the Patio. (Anita doesn't handle praise very well.)

Nina's one true love is status and her second is dinero. She just got lucky at the time to find a man who also had good looks and sexual skills. Makes me wonder if she would have settled for someone Humberto's age and hoped to become a young widow. Then she would have had more time and the social circle in which to look for an Arturo.

Thanks again for sharing your immense narrative skill and sparkling wit with us yet again NovelaMaven. You're such a precious gem.

I'm getting quite a kick from this TN. Just when we think we have it all figured out we get another unexpected curve ball thrown at us. Who would have ever thought that the raging demon we met as Eladio would now be charming us (as well as Julia) out of our pants? And yet, he maintains enough of his original smoldering malevolence to keep us from investing too much of our emotional capital with him.

I don't see how any but the coldest of hearts could not have been touched by Nina's sincere display of desperation and panic last night. As far as any warmth that Arturo showed, instead of the end of a business arrangement, it looked to me more like someone trying to say a tidy goodbye to a formerly favorite pet who has somehow become inconvenient and is now about to be euthanized.

Don't forget that he told Nina that she doesn't know what he is capable of. I'm not sure that he is yet fully aware of what that might be and may end up surprising not only her and us but himself as well.

Carlos

Not to find fault with a tangled, but entertaining story, BUT: What does the Auggy Gabi angle add here?

I would like to see them together, but mainly because that means she is NOT with Franco, which, if I get my way, makes her a young widow. But speaking of, I'd rather see her with Daniela than with Franco. The only one I want to see Franco with is earthworms. That said, what does Auggy's bulldozerish 'courting' have to do with the price of tea in China? I keep waiting for him to be seen buying a box of Just for Men, and then Gabi falling all over him. Like Chuchette and Payless shoes.

Augie is just going to naturally turn into a silver fox little by little. Fine wine that one. I would not mind him ending up with Gaby if he would just dial back the desperate pursuit a bit. Franco is a petulant little boy who is too goodlooking for this own good. How can a guy be that attractive and yet so unattractive as soon as he opens his mouth? Susanlynn♥

NM---It is always such a joy reading your recaps. And much thanks for the advances.
The corners of Arturo's lips twitch upward.
The rolling cloud of doom.

Urban y Mauricio---Thank you two for the parts of the show that Uni didn't think that we needed to see. I like the Clara connection and wouldn't have had a clue as what was going on with her and Justino if it wasn't for you guys filling in the cut scenes. Another blistering email will be on it's way to Univision Corporate as soon as I finish up here.

How dare you touch a king? --- Nice one Kirbo That was quite a scene. I have noticed how Eladio wears his sunglasses indoors---It's the king thing I guess.

Eladio's new watch is a winner.

Nina brought out her inner Consuelo. Yes, she played that scene perfectly. She loved him and now he's leaving, Arturo wants another. Well just think about it all you Nina lovers. Maybe know she knows how Consuelo felt when she knew Chimp Boy Erick was cheating on her and time after time Nina defended her near garbage son. Nina even defended Erick when he sold out the family's business. What goes around comes around bruja momma.

David must have been shocked when he saw Regina in that big hug last night but I think that it will get explained and worked out tonight.

Off topic---Carlos, since you mentioned Arturo and his using the word gringo in your comment yesterday, I thought that I would give you my "gringo story" for you and for anyone else that may read it.

I had worked for a company for several years. I was very happy and worked pretty much on my own. I did have some interaction with co-workers but basically, I was a one man department. Suddenly the company started going through some major changes. These changes affected many of the employees, myself included. Overnight I found myself working as part of a large group, not a one man show as before. My group or new department was mostly Mexican with a few workers from El Salvador. Some spoke English but many did not. I was now faced with much interaction, not as it was before. What to do? In a way, I guess that it could be said that I was now the outsider. I wanted to make this new situation work but how? I thought about it and even though I didn't speak Spanish, I knew of the word gringo, it's meaning and the negativity associated with it. I decided to take something that was considered to be negative and turn it into something positive---and so, when I was asked what my name was, I would reply, gringo. Many laughed but before long my co-workers soon learned that not all gringos were bad, there were some good ones too. I soon made several friends. That's it. and now you guys know my gringo story.

Can't wait for tonight.
must see tv
the gringo

gringo,

Thanks for sharing that charming story with us.

Carlos

Gringo:
I was afraid, in the heat of the moment, a sharp corner on that clunky flea market watch would leave a mark on my queen. She got him a smooth rounded one, but I haven't seen it close enough to evaluate it yet. Not a Rolex. (Leather band) Art looks to have a Gold Citizen Eco-Drive, maybe.

¡Buenas tardes, amigos!

It's wonderful to see how engaged we are with this crazy story – for all its flaws, there is something compelling about it that keeps us coming back and needing to talk about it.

Thank for your wonderful comments and kind words. It's fun writing recaps, but it's a special pleasure when other people actually read and seem to enjoy them. And thanks to Urban and Mauricio for fleshing out some of the parts that were cut from the two episodes.

Personally, I've starting rooting for Eladio. Yes, I know he's no paloma blanca, but there's something about the Beauty and the Beast theme that I find compelling. We know he's going to have to answer for his sins (though murdering Smith may not be among them), but we still care about him – or at least I do.

I agree that Nina has also become a sympathetic character of late, even as Arturo grows increasingly loathsome. By the way, Daisynjay, your analysis of Arturo was razor sharp. Wow.

JudyB
Was really hoping Eladio would choke him to death (does this make me a bad person?)
If it does, we can hold hands on our way to hell together. In fact, those who claim not to have hoped for Humberto's demise probably have their fingers crossed behind their backs.

Carlos
As far as any warmth that Arturo showed, instead of the end of a business arrangement, it looked to me more like someone trying to say a tidy goodbye to a formerly favorite pet who has somehow become inconvenient and is now about to be euthanized.
Well now that you mention it... hahahahaha!

gringo
Loved the story. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Vivi
I'm also leaning towards Eladio having killed his first partner in order to get all his money. In any case, I definitely think the writers want us to be uncertain about this.
I'm leaning in the other direction, but that's exactly what the writers are going for!

Diana
Thank you for pointing out the "table malfunction." I didn't even notice – I just thought the situation was really funny and the actors were enjoying as much as we were. (Hah! I guess they were.)

tofie
No friggin wonder Agustin hasn't a woman. Like he is out with Will Ferrel and Chris Kattan at the Roxbury.
Oh my. I have to remember to put the coffee down before reading your comments. You always manage to crack me up.

Anita
I believe Humberto has been consistently vile and fickle to the end.

El gringo, I have wondered about the use of this word for ages. I worked for three Hispanic ad agencies and never heard it at any of them nor was I treated badly. I am very gringa myself in that I tend to have a mostly British demeanor.

I do think, though, that many novela writers have an issue with us because of the parade of gringo characters who can't speak Spanish well unless they are CEOs or genius doctors. The actor who plays Assmore does a plausible US accent that isn't totally obnoxious but there are those of us who can pronounce Spanish like the Televisa actors.

What is horrible about this character is the way he does business. You never show a proposal to its company's competitor and you are never obliged to give details about your reasons for choosing a competitor's deal. I was in the ugly position of someone trying to pull that one on me at my last company and although the competitor's deal was a little more expensive it was also more cost-efficient and the product more reliable. I think that the previous person at my last company was young enough to be unaware that this was not kosher and this vendor thought I'd be just as dumb.

So now we have a gringo whose business dealings are shady. We have a long way to go.

NovelaMaven thank you for an awesome recap! Dealing with all the editing and chopping didn't seem to affect your wit a bit ;-)

Arturo is a cold blooded SOB isn't he? I'm no Nina fan but watching her beg Arturo all the while knowing he is lusting/longing for another woman was uncomfortable. The woman is ready to degrade herself for a man who is throwing her away (the mother of his children) like a used tissue. Yes, Gringo, I agree maybe she'll be a bit more empathetic to Consuelo now but I doubt it. I think Nina will still be about her own interests. We'll see if this humiliating kick to the curb will humanize her a bit.

I love Eladio/Julia together. I think the actors strike the right amount of chemistry in all of their scenes whether they are fighting or talking tenderly to hitting the sheets or even a wobbly table. I find myself completely rooting for them no matter what. SG is so sensual and beautiful and FC is just sexy on a stick. The scene with Julia giving Eladio what we can assume is his first real gift from the heart was very moving. I know in the real world men like Eladio take years to change, even with therapy. I don't think it's completely impossible. There's is always hope for someone to change and be redeemed if they want to change. I believe Eladio loves Julia and wants to do right by her. I absolutely love how Eladio can go from soft purring cat to a fierce tiger when he feels threatened. Hummy is pressing his luck and if he doesn't watch his wheels he's going to find himself rolled out into the street.

Caridad has a lot to learn about being a mother. Covering up for her son and turning a blind eye to his mistreatment of Gaby is not winning any points with me. She works with Gaby and has heard how wonderful Gaby thinks Franco is, it's obvious that Gaby is a nice decent girl who deserves so much better. Now Manatee is seeking approval from Caridad. If Caridad continues to push Gaby to give Franco another chance, I will really be pissed at her. Knowing what she knows about her son and Manatee, Caridad needs to really shut up and stay out of it.

Justino and Clara? I'm glad I missed that, because I'm not the least bit interested in Mr. Corn Cob. I was hoping he'd caught a tide out to where his wife was.

Gringo..Your story was interesting to me because my daughter worked for a few years shortly after college for a big bank with a lot of guys from South America. Ironic because I had suggested that she study Spanish in college, but she chose French, and she studied Spanish for only one year. However, her German boss never let on that he could speak not only English but also Spanish, and he was able to tell her what they were saying. I always warn my students to be careful what tbey say when they are speaking their native language because the people around them might just understand it.

Re Augustin...perhaps be hears his biological clock ticking and feels that young Gaby would make a good mama for his future bebes. He probably wants to have some kids before he is too old to play soccer with them. As it is, he might be retiring as the kids are leaving for college. Susanlynn♥

Oh...I am with NM. I think that the writers are going to redeem The Beast for Beauty , so I do not think that he killed anyone. Eladio is pompous (hate the way be whips off those sunglasses) but pretty and passionate.

Susanlynn♥

Susanlynn
You're making it hard to pick out your comments among all the anonymi. ¿Qué pasa?
Eladio seemed truly touched when Julia gave him the watch. He acted as though he had never received a gift before. Second, NIni looked truly devastated and crushed at the end.
Yes and yes!

Delilah
Enjoyed your entire comment, but particularly this part:
I love Eladio/Julia together. I think the actors strike the right amount of chemistry in all of their scenes whether they are fighting or talking tenderly to hitting the sheets or even a wobbly table. I find myself completely rooting for them no matter what. SG is so sensual and beautiful and FC is just sexy on a stick.
I wouldn't have predicted it at the beginning, but wow, these two have hit their stride!

Kirbo
Thanks for adding the "arm grab" to the record. You're right – it was impressive!

Leticia
You can often find episodes on YouTube, searching by title and ep. number. Or you can try your luck with a google search. It's usually easier to find them after they've aired here. Before they've aired, Univision tries to shut down any sites that threaten to steal their thunder. If you do find something, don't mention it here or it will disappear almost immediately. :)

I wanted to add that I don't think El killed his business mentor/partner. If he did, I doubt he'd keep a picture of the man around or would have shared the story of their history together with David. I think this is something meant to cast doubt on Eladio.

This hasn't been discussed but it appears a tragedy of some sort happens in the Montenegro family. Erick seems to be in a downward spiral, drinking and showing up at Con's house. I said the only way Con/Miguel can be together is if Erick dies. Perhaps that is what we see in the previews?

Delilah..ha..."sexy on a stick" and "rolled out into the street." Yeah..that !!! ♥ Susanlynn

NM...I liketo mix it up. Just look for the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

NovelaMaven--Maybe Humberto has been vile and fickle all along, but he's never gotten quite this entrometido in his family affairs up to now. Until he left the hospital, he was basically relegated to hectoring Julia and laying guilt trips on her. He's going back on his original gripe to make Julia stay married to Eladio regardless of how cruelly Eladio was treating her, to perking up for Arturo's money to separate Eladio and Julia.

I guess I was talking about actions rather than personalities.

Caridad is just as blind to Franco's faults as Nina is to Erick's and Daniela's. Neither of them has an excuse for this and I completely agree that Caridad needs to stay out of Franco's sex life (notice I didn't say "love").

Marintia was trying to change the terms of her deal with Franco and in such a situation it almost always ends badly.

If you have ever watched Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Gaston is the Beast's rival foir the Beauty and falls into the ravine while fighting the Beast. Art, bad news, Hombre, you are Gaston. Sux to be you. ♥ Susanlynn

FC has infused this very gray character with so much detail and charisma. I love how he wears those glasses and whips them off when he wants to make a point with his eyes. The amused turn of his lips or tilt of his head when he wants to show the slightest concede to Arturo. Slight, because it's clear that Eladio always believes that he will come out on top. I love the stern looks that dare anyone to mess with him, but then his eyes soften and glaze when his beautiful Julia comes near to him. FC is really shaping this character into something special. He's got me on an an emotionally wavy ride.

NovelaMaven, thanks for the recap. I particularly like this phrase that you highlighted, " A ti te parece justo matarme en vida?" If you don't mind, I've changed your translation slightly to read what the Spanish words look like to me, "To you it appears OK (just) to kill me while I still live." In other words...a living death....That must reflect the feelings of so many people who have had their past 25 years obliterated by the Arturos of the world.

Susanlynn, my son took French as well, supposedly the high school Spanish teacher was a bruja. Now I have to help him with Spanish translations in his business! In my maturity, I've resisted even a hint of, I told you so! His children, my grandsons are already taking Spanish...

FC's gestures in this character are interesting and they point to both his insecurity and his arrogance. The dark glasses remind me of Aristotle Onasis who allegedly wore them so that nobody could read the involuntary dilation of the pupils when something pleased him. His hand gestures are very dismissive but his "no touching"pullbacks look very paranoid.

Sandy, get them to start watching novelas without subtitles. There's nothing like learning through context.

Sandy...I cannot remember if I said "I told you so" at the time daughter found herself working with all those hombres, but....I thought it often enough. The Spanish teacher in our local high school was not very good, and the French teacher was better. Actually, daughter planned on studying three years of French followed by twp years of Spanish in our small rural high school , but they could not fit the second year of Spanish into her senior schedule. Thus, she had three years of French, followed by a year of Spanish, and then French 4 her senior year. This resulted in her inserting an occasional Spanish word when she was writing in French. Susanlynn (Je suis Suzette)

UA, you're right that Aristole Onassis wore glasses to hide something, but it was myasthenia gravis, a muscular disorder, his eyelids were very effected.

My grandsons are too young for novelas, but happily, many of today's cartoons/ youth programs are sprinkled with a lot of Spanish!!

Interesting. I did read "allegedly" back in the day. Never forgot it, either.

UA, we could both be right. Onassis, like our Eladio and Arturo, was a international conglomerate mogul, he might have been reading eye expressions to advance his work, but at the end, he used scotch tape to keep his eyelids open. Very sad.
