Pasión y poder, U.S. Ep. 59 (Mex. 74 & 75), Thursday, January 28, 2016: How low can you go, Arturo Montenegro?
Avances: The already splintered Montenegro clan will be further shattered by a ratings-goosing tragedy.
Labels: poder
Old Bad Penny Hummy sure gets around, he just pops up everywhere. Id be tying a cowbell on that silent little machine he is on.
We saw that the old Eladio is not dead. Did anyone catch his reaction when he and Augustino were sparring in the hallway and Elad started walking away? Auggy grabbed his arm because he was not finished talking to Elad. Eladio literally barked at him, and I fully expected a smackdown. It was like "How dare you touch the king?"
"You don't cheat on Gabi without my permission." old habits die hard.
Sheezo Susana can be sexy when she turns it on. I,ve been in Luuurve with her longer than you Eladio.
Pure heaven. "Arturo storms out of the room leaving Nina alone, her lips pale" and "sad adenoidal rival" were among many favorites.
Frankly, I'm confused. My emotions are running the gamut from surprise, to dismay to disgust in too rapid a succession.
How fortunate that Julia has impeccable timing and has been able to forestall Eladio's anger just when the odious Humberto's poison starts taking effect. If Julia had not resigned and tearfully confessed her growing love and confidence in Eladio, what would have happened?
I find myself thinking I should start rooting for Eladio and then we are burdened with hearing "If I find out that you've cheated on Gaby without my authorization, you'll find out what it means to have me working against you." What's a girl to think??
And while initially I thought there might be hope for Arturo, "we were happy for many years. You are an exceptional woman, but I think we have to close the circle. I thank you for your support and for the children you gave me, but finally I think that love..." was simply painful to read.
I am afraid for Clara who has done nothing but try and help others. Franco desperately need anger management treatment and quickly.
I still have a softspot for Augustin. I wish he'd back off a bit and give Gaby a fleeting glimpse of who he is, rather than steamrolling in when she hasn't even been able to absorb the pain and come to terms with her breakup of Franco.
I hope Nina takes Arturo to the cleaners...
Until Eladio tells Julia about Franco, Caridad, etc. there can truly be no forward movement.
I still don't see any galans on the horizon but the story is fascinating enough to be intriguing and thought provoking.
Thanks again NovelaMaven!
Diana
Julia couldn't have been more clear. What more does Art need to hear? I even felt bad for Nina.
Love that Humberto's first plan flopped so majorly. I was not looking forward to seeing Eladio and Julia fighting again. Looked like we were about to have one as explosive as the staircase fall fight.
When Julia and Eladio were trying to start an amorous adventure, did anyone else think there was a table malfunction?
Susanna started laughing and so did Fernando. I think she almost fell off the table and they both seemed to come out of character a bit...
Diana
Vivi: Franco better NOT lay a hand on Clara because Francisco will kick his butt if that happens!
Kirby: Augustin needs to take the hint & forget about Gaby! Sounds very stalker like CBS' "Stalker"!
Urban: Old Goat Humberto needs to go away. He's getting on my nerves!
Missing scenes in order, starting from the end of #74:
At some point after Eladio's encounter with Augustin, Gabriela went to GLA to talk to Eladio about the broken engagement. Eladio is OK with Gabriela stalling things with Franco, but doesn't like the idea of G taking up with Aug, which represents a conflict of interest. We learn two things:
-- Aug is a shareholder of GM but we don't know what percentage
-- Gabriela has known Franco "all your life" so she's living with Julia and Eladio longer than we previously thought. (What's up with her parents, anyway?)
Justino looked for Clara and found her in Franco's office. He tells her he misses her and then plants one on her. Franco turns up at that moment and uses the non-fraternization rule against her by firing her. He suspends Justino. Clara says she doesn't care and she'll be happier out of GLA, then leaves.
That was followed by the scene with the new watch. Julia has good taste and it even matches Eladio's suit of the day.
More in next post.
Best part of last night--that crap table in Eladio's office that can't hold anything heavier than a book? Hysterical, and I wonder if that was one massive ad lib they kept in. For all your money dude, invest in some better office furniture.
Wow, from Julia last night. So deep, deep, deep down she maybe stuck around for 20 years with the abuse because she actually loved Eladio more and more and didn't want to leave? Ok then. I'm just rolling with that. So now they are a pair and she'll most likely be blind to whatever and we know the drill...
Because it was pretty evident last night you still do not mess with this man. Personally, I'm all for him beating the crap or cutting the oxygen of that twit Humberto. He needs to go. I can't "root" for Eladio because it seems to me he would hurt an innocent if it means getting what he wants. Can't warm up to someone like that. If there is supposed to be some sort of "love story" with Julia at the center...leaves me cold. Don't really care who she gets. If she was smart, she would have left both of them with her son long ago.
As for the other side of this triangle, Art is just an ass. He spoke to Nina as if he was ending a business transaction, and listening to that I realized, that's it. He treats everyone and everything as if it's work and his personal interactions are contracts people have signed into, rules to follow or contract is broken. Explains maybe why the man even works from home in a suit and tie. What a sad way to be. And now that his "contract" relationships are breaking, he is mentally losing it and even destroying the few positive people he had around him.
That said, I just wonder how long that Augustin puts up with this crap between these two men? If it means he would lose Gaby will he turn on Artie, and work to take down Eladio. He knows A LOT of secrets. I don't see himever aligning with Eladio, but he could really bring both these idiots down. And I'll be rooting him on if he does.
Seriously with the guy now in to mess with David and Gina? Seriously?
Daisynjay
After the scene with Caridad and Franco in his office, Gabriela finds major flowers in the parlor at the GL mansion with a note from Franco, who must have teleported there. He tried to make up with her but she stalls for time. He grimaces toward us, which tells us he is not exactly sincere in telling her he loves her. He then adjusts his face to try to give her back the ring.
David and Regina had coffee and talked about work. She saw the news story about Eladio on her tablet and showed it to him.
Scene with Julia and Eladio, then scene with Arturo and Nina in his office. After that:
Regina and David talked about the news story. He didn't buy it and made a comparison to the story about Erick being suspected of being The Man From Orkin.
Arturo and Erick talked about the upcoming vote for the presidency of the business association. Assmore showed up with a gift for Arturo (We don't see what it is, but Arturo is politely impressed). Angeles listens at the door and hears something about Assmore's son-in-law. She called Franco to tell him about it. As he ended the call Caridad tried to talk to him but he exited the office.
Regina introduced David to Jorge Perez, who used to work for Arturo. She left with Jorge to check on something. David looked jealous.
Segue to last scene where Eladio denied the charges and went after Humberto.
Augustin should lay off Gaby. Wait until she is married to Franco for a couple months, then have an affair with her as her divorce lawyer.
Steve: Agreed, someone needs to beat Franco nearly to death. On second thought, that didn't work before, just kill him and solve a L O T of peoples problems. Are you listening Eladio?
I don't believe Eladio's denials. I think he is responsible for that man's death. The way he kept looking away from Julia and the way he went after Humberto makes that clear to me. He may have let something slip to Humberto at some point long before the story began and Humberto stores all this up to use later, just like Eladio does.
Doesn't Nina know that the purple lipstick makes her look harder and older? We know how vain she is and how she takes antioxidant pills (and probably biotin and others) to keep up her looks. How is it that she fails to see that the purple lipstick really isn't flattering (at least not with this set of clothes and this hairstyle)?
Is Jorge meant to be a relative of Nina's or did Nina change her name before she met Arturo? I know that there are not as many surnames in Spanish as in English, but you'd think the writers wouldn't have named him this without a reason.
According to IMDb, tonight is when episode 85 airs in Mexico. I'd rather we not catch up too much more.
My favorites were "Hell on wheels" and "flexes his jaw".
I loved the title. Arturo did hit a new low tonight- leaking that story about Eladio's past to win the presidency.
Glad that Julia and Eladio didn't end up in yet another argument.
Eladio grabbing Hummy by the throat- awesome. He certainly deserved it.
"If I find out that you've cheated on Gaby without my authorization, you'll find out what it means to have me working against you."
Oh Eladio. That doesn't make you look good at all.
More on Clara and Justino:
At the office, after the first kiss, Clara admits to Justino that she can't stop thinking about him. He admits that he can't stop thinking about her too.
When Justino visits Clara at Consuelo's apartment, she asks him why he kissed her. He tells her that he can't control what he feels for her anymore, but admits to feeling like he is cheating on Maribel, even though he knows she has passed away. He apologizes to her and leaves.
It sounds as though we missed important events and critical to our understanding of the story and development of the plot line.
It's really a shame.
I'm happy Franco fired Clara. She deserves so much better!
And I'm uneasy now wondering if Eladio did have something to do with the man's death. Not quite sure if a murderer can be redeemed (?) Has this happened before?
Diana
Caridad's killing of her husband was to protect Franco so that doesn't qualify, but killing a business partner to take over his share of the company or to prevent exposure of something dirty is so cold-blooded that nothing short of life without parole qualifies as punishment along with seizure of assets for an audit. There is no statute of limitations on murder and if there is any evidence that Eladio committed murder his holdings could be in limbo for years with forensic accountants.
And thanks for highlighting the famous jaw flex method of acting. That seemed to be Alexis Ayala's (sp?) specialty as well. At any rate, the actor playing Franco has a very nice jaw, so he can flex it all he wants. Cool with me.
As a dunder-headed romantic, delighted that Julia and Eladio resolved his suspicions so quickly in this episode, but sounds like there are more clouds on the horizon. Fasten your seat belts.
Appreciated the Spanish dialogue...I tried to write down JUST those phrases as I watched, but messed up in a few points. So now I have it straight.
Always a pleasure to read your well-crafted prose. Keep 'em coming!
I have not read all the comments yet, but I have to comment on a few things. First, Eladio seemed truly touched when Julia gave him the watch. He acted as though he had never received a gift before. Second, NIni looked truly devastated and crushed at the end. She seems to have really loved Art not just his cash and their love life . Later, Susanlynn♥
Urban- Thanks for some of the missing scenes!
I agree, that Clara is probably better off not working at GLA and under Franco's thumb anymore. She's learning computer skills from Miguel, and has her clothing/shoes sales business. She'll manage.
I love that rather than reshoot, they kept in the obvious blooper of Eladio putting Julia on the table and it almost flipping over twice. It felt so unplanned and real and if you look at Caridad's face when she comes to the door and sees it, it looks like she's trying not to crack a smile or maybe I'm seeing things. Everyone was so professional and just kept going and it totally worked with the playfulness of Eladio and Julia in that moment and Caridad's speech to him afterwards and Susana's laugh as she was leaving the scene said it all. I loved it.
Nina brought out her inner Consuelo last night begging a man who has treated her like garbage, played and is still playing head games with her and is lusting after another woman quite openly at this point in the way we saw Consuelo do time and time again with Erick before she came to her senses. It was not an attractive look on her. Nina may be someone who loves money and power and the idea of being Mrs. Montenegro but I think it's quite clear that she does genuinely loves him and would rather still be married to him than divorced and living off his riches.
I genuinely could not care less about Gabi/Augustin and I really don't see that changing. They just do nothing for me and his pursuit of her has been strong and extra creepy from jump. Perhaps I am remembering it wrong, but when he first met her and found out who she was, didn't he mention something about her Mom? Like how he used to have a crush on her? I don't know..but I feel like something like that happened and it makes him wanting Gabi even more off putting. I know the age difference between the actors isn't that big but Gabi is playing younger than the actress..college age and Auggie is playing older, probably mid 40's. I just can't get into them.
In fact, in one of the cut scenes from Wednesday night, Franco tortures Clara some more by kicking over a bucket of water and having her mop the floor again after she had just finished and was ready to head on home to get some rest.
Later, Clara tells Consuelo about what Franco did, and Consuelo offers to ask Miguel to give Clara a job at GM, but Clara refuses, because she still thinks that Consuelo wants to keep her distance from Miguel. That's when Consuelo tells Clara about the feelings that she has for Miguel.
Hope that Clara is able to get a job at GM.
I agree that Augustin's pursuit of Gabriela isn't right even in absence of the family feud. I haven't liked this from the beginning. I can't see that they would have anything in common.
Oh but they DO have something in common. Given her hemline, they both like her legs.
I agree with Anon321, although Nina is all about the money and status, I have reached the point where I sympathize with her. She does love Arturo, and I will bet this is a nightmare for her that he is just tossing her over and does no longer even deny his feelings or obsession. I hope she gets her half, we never saw her look at another man except when she tried to flirt w Eladio, but that was to help her keep her husband, I think. Is it okay to ask how to view the uncut versions of the tn? Recaps are so good, sometimes its hard to tell which parts are the ones that were cut or if It is a scene that was there but I missed. I really am liking Elodio, wow, I now can see how it was possible that after 25 years, Julia discovers she just never allowed herself to love him because she was pining after Art. Once she saw that and the effort that Elo is making to gain her love, it is nice to watch their love bloom and the chemistry is very obvious hot. Anyways, I am not blind to several ugly traits I still see on Elo, but I dont think he can totally change his persona just like that. I am mesmerized by his gestures and facial expressions. Like when Augustin reached for his arm, and FC brushed him off agressively looking totally bad ass, puts his sunglasses on as he walks away. Good acting. Like Gringo says: must watch tv, can't wait, can't wait.
Leticia
"he flexes his jaw (because he is acting)"
I don't mind direct. What I don't understand is the swoon expected when a macho man gets in your face, unsolicited, and says you must be delicious, somebody gotta eat you and it might as well be him. No friggin wonder Agustin hasn't a woman. Like he is out with Will Ferrel and Chris Kattan at the Roxbury.
That was no hug I'd expect by someone you couldn't even remember. What is Regina doing?
One has to wonder, that after all these years, Eladio still keeps a picture of Mr. Smith nearby and speaks fondly of him.
OT..Vivi..Starz Outlander has cast Brianna...a young English actress named Sofie Skeleton...very pretty. Rik Rankin will be Roger.
Perhaps Eladio's cozy jams are supposed to be a clue to the soft, vulnerable emotional center under the hard ass exterior.
But I don't like 'em. And I'd hate to see Colunga in bunny slippers either. Now must go back and recheck that desk top blooper!
Susanlynn♥
What odds do you give her working at Montenegro ?
As to PJs, I think the only time I've ever seen JS in them before was in MCET because that was PG rated rather than the TV14 that this is.
The table mishap--I just glossed over it and thought it was a bit gross for them to start making out in the office with the door unlocked. With all the comments regarding it, now it seems really funny. I must go back and rewind to get the full effect, including Caridad's reaction.
All these characters tire me out with all their shenanigans. Are there ANY who have been consistent? Ok, Daniela has. Can't wait for her next caper. Will she go after Franco?
I've been waiting for Kirby's evaluation of Eladio's new watch. I think he just traded in a square one for a round one.
Glad Artie got burned over the exclusive contract for Julia to sell his condos. If I liked Artie any more, I would suggest he quick put a lot of his wealth in his childrens' names. It *has* been done before.
I still don't think Artie is Nina's one true love. Her hormone levels have never waned. She's still in seduction mode. True it has been to her advantage that Art matched her desires and ability. Now what? I agree, that speech sounded more like the end of a business arrangement, not a marriage. How much lower is Art going to get before *something* comes back to hit him in the schnozz.
Today, it was "I still don't think Artie is Nina's one true love. Her hormone levels have never waned. She's still in seduction mode. True it has been to her advantage that Art matched her desires and ability. Now what?"
I can't wait to find out.
Diana
Nina's one true love is status and her second is dinero. She just got lucky at the time to find a man who also had good looks and sexual skills. Makes me wonder if she would have settled for someone Humberto's age and hoped to become a young widow. Then she would have had more time and the social circle in which to look for an Arturo.
I'm getting quite a kick from this TN. Just when we think we have it all figured out we get another unexpected curve ball thrown at us. Who would have ever thought that the raging demon we met as Eladio would now be charming us (as well as Julia) out of our pants? And yet, he maintains enough of his original smoldering malevolence to keep us from investing too much of our emotional capital with him.
I don't see how any but the coldest of hearts could not have been touched by Nina's sincere display of desperation and panic last night. As far as any warmth that Arturo showed, instead of the end of a business arrangement, it looked to me more like someone trying to say a tidy goodbye to a formerly favorite pet who has somehow become inconvenient and is now about to be euthanized.
Don't forget that he told Nina that she doesn't know what he is capable of. I'm not sure that he is yet fully aware of what that might be and may end up surprising not only her and us but himself as well.
Carlos
I would like to see them together, but mainly because that means she is NOT with Franco, which, if I get my way, makes her a young widow. But speaking of, I'd rather see her with Daniela than with Franco. The only one I want to see Franco with is earthworms. That said, what does Auggy's bulldozerish 'courting' have to do with the price of tea in China? I keep waiting for him to be seen buying a box of Just for Men, and then Gabi falling all over him. Like Chuchette and Payless shoes.
The corners of Arturo's lips twitch upward.
The rolling cloud of doom.
Urban y Mauricio---Thank you two for the parts of the show that Uni didn't think that we needed to see. I like the Clara connection and wouldn't have had a clue as what was going on with her and Justino if it wasn't for you guys filling in the cut scenes. Another blistering email will be on it's way to Univision Corporate as soon as I finish up here.
How dare you touch a king? --- Nice one Kirbo That was quite a scene. I have noticed how Eladio wears his sunglasses indoors---It's the king thing I guess.
Eladio's new watch is a winner.
Nina brought out her inner Consuelo. Yes, she played that scene perfectly. She loved him and now he's leaving, Arturo wants another. Well just think about it all you Nina lovers. Maybe know she knows how Consuelo felt when she knew Chimp Boy Erick was cheating on her and time after time Nina defended her near garbage son. Nina even defended Erick when he sold out the family's business. What goes around comes around bruja momma.
David must have been shocked when he saw Regina in that big hug last night but I think that it will get explained and worked out tonight.
Off topic---Carlos, since you mentioned Arturo and his using the word gringo in your comment yesterday, I thought that I would give you my "gringo story" for you and for anyone else that may read it.
I had worked for a company for several years. I was very happy and worked pretty much on my own. I did have some interaction with co-workers but basically, I was a one man department. Suddenly the company started going through some major changes. These changes affected many of the employees, myself included. Overnight I found myself working as part of a large group, not a one man show as before. My group or new department was mostly Mexican with a few workers from El Salvador. Some spoke English but many did not. I was now faced with much interaction, not as it was before. What to do? In a way, I guess that it could be said that I was now the outsider. I wanted to make this new situation work but how? I thought about it and even though I didn't speak Spanish, I knew of the word gringo, it's meaning and the negativity associated with it. I decided to take something that was considered to be negative and turn it into something positive---and so, when I was asked what my name was, I would reply, gringo. Many laughed but before long my co-workers soon learned that not all gringos were bad, there were some good ones too. I soon made several friends. That's it. and now you guys know my gringo story.
Can't wait for tonight.
must see tv
the gringo
I was afraid, in the heat of the moment, a sharp corner on that clunky flea market watch would leave a mark on my queen. She got him a smooth rounded one, but I haven't seen it close enough to evaluate it yet. Not a Rolex. (Leather band) Art looks to have a Gold Citizen Eco-Drive, maybe.
It's wonderful to see how engaged we are with this crazy story – for all its flaws, there is something compelling about it that keeps us coming back and needing to talk about it.
Thank for your wonderful comments and kind words. It's fun writing recaps, but it's a special pleasure when other people actually read and seem to enjoy them. And thanks to Urban and Mauricio for fleshing out some of the parts that were cut from the two episodes.
Personally, I've starting rooting for Eladio. Yes, I know he's no paloma blanca, but there's something about the Beauty and the Beast theme that I find compelling. We know he's going to have to answer for his sins (though murdering Smith may not be among them), but we still care about him – or at least I do.
I agree that Nina has also become a sympathetic character of late, even as Arturo grows increasingly loathsome. By the way, Daisynjay, your analysis of Arturo was razor sharp. Wow.
JudyB
Was really hoping Eladio would choke him to death (does this make me a bad person?)
If it does, we can hold hands on our way to hell together. In fact, those who claim not to have hoped for Humberto's demise probably have their fingers crossed behind their backs.
Carlos
As far as any warmth that Arturo showed, instead of the end of a business arrangement, it looked to me more like someone trying to say a tidy goodbye to a formerly favorite pet who has somehow become inconvenient and is now about to be euthanized.
Well now that you mention it... hahahahaha!
gringo
Loved the story. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Vivi
I'm also leaning towards Eladio having killed his first partner in order to get all his money. In any case, I definitely think the writers want us to be uncertain about this.
I'm leaning in the other direction, but that's exactly what the writers are going for!
Diana
Thank you for pointing out the "table malfunction." I didn't even notice – I just thought the situation was really funny and the actors were enjoying as much as we were. (Hah! I guess they were.)
tofie
No friggin wonder Agustin hasn't a woman. Like he is out with Will Ferrel and Chris Kattan at the Roxbury.
Oh my. I have to remember to put the coffee down before reading your comments. You always manage to crack me up.
Anita
I believe Humberto has been consistently vile and fickle to the end.
I do think, though, that many novela writers have an issue with us because of the parade of gringo characters who can't speak Spanish well unless they are CEOs or genius doctors. The actor who plays Assmore does a plausible US accent that isn't totally obnoxious but there are those of us who can pronounce Spanish like the Televisa actors.
What is horrible about this character is the way he does business. You never show a proposal to its company's competitor and you are never obliged to give details about your reasons for choosing a competitor's deal. I was in the ugly position of someone trying to pull that one on me at my last company and although the competitor's deal was a little more expensive it was also more cost-efficient and the product more reliable. I think that the previous person at my last company was young enough to be unaware that this was not kosher and this vendor thought I'd be just as dumb.
So now we have a gringo whose business dealings are shady. We have a long way to go.
Arturo is a cold blooded SOB isn't he? I'm no Nina fan but watching her beg Arturo all the while knowing he is lusting/longing for another woman was uncomfortable. The woman is ready to degrade herself for a man who is throwing her away (the mother of his children) like a used tissue. Yes, Gringo, I agree maybe she'll be a bit more empathetic to Consuelo now but I doubt it. I think Nina will still be about her own interests. We'll see if this humiliating kick to the curb will humanize her a bit.
I love Eladio/Julia together. I think the actors strike the right amount of chemistry in all of their scenes whether they are fighting or talking tenderly to hitting the sheets or even a wobbly table. I find myself completely rooting for them no matter what. SG is so sensual and beautiful and FC is just sexy on a stick. The scene with Julia giving Eladio what we can assume is his first real gift from the heart was very moving. I know in the real world men like Eladio take years to change, even with therapy. I don't think it's completely impossible. There's is always hope for someone to change and be redeemed if they want to change. I believe Eladio loves Julia and wants to do right by her. I absolutely love how Eladio can go from soft purring cat to a fierce tiger when he feels threatened. Hummy is pressing his luck and if he doesn't watch his wheels he's going to find himself rolled out into the street.
Caridad has a lot to learn about being a mother. Covering up for her son and turning a blind eye to his mistreatment of Gaby is not winning any points with me. She works with Gaby and has heard how wonderful Gaby thinks Franco is, it's obvious that Gaby is a nice decent girl who deserves so much better. Now Manatee is seeking approval from Caridad. If Caridad continues to push Gaby to give Franco another chance, I will really be pissed at her. Knowing what she knows about her son and Manatee, Caridad needs to really shut up and stay out of it.
Justino and Clara? I'm glad I missed that, because I'm not the least bit interested in Mr. Corn Cob. I was hoping he'd caught a tide out to where his wife was.
Re Augustin...perhaps be hears his biological clock ticking and feels that young Gaby would make a good mama for his future bebes. He probably wants to have some kids before he is too old to play soccer with them. As it is, he might be retiring as the kids are leaving for college. Susanlynn♥

You're making it hard to pick out your comments among all the anonymi. ¿Qué pasa?
Eladio seemed truly touched when Julia gave him the watch. He acted as though he had never received a gift before. Second, NIni looked truly devastated and crushed at the end.
Yes and yes!

Enjoyed your entire comment, but particularly this part:

I wouldn't have predicted it at the beginning, but wow, these two have hit their stride!
Kirbo
Thanks for adding the "arm grab" to the record. You're right – it was impressive!

You can often find episodes on YouTube, searching by title and ep. number. Or you can try your luck with a google search. It's usually easier to find them after they've aired here. Before they've aired, Univision tries to shut down any sites that threaten to steal their thunder. If you do find something, don't mention it here or it will disappear almost immediately. :)
This hasn't been discussed but it appears a tragedy of some sort happens in the Montenegro family. Erick seems to be in a downward spiral, drinking and showing up at Con's house. I said the only way Con/Miguel can be together is if Erick dies. Perhaps that is what we see in the previews?
I guess I was talking about actions rather than personalities.
Marintia was trying to change the terms of her deal with Franco and in such a situation it almost always ends badly.
Susanlynn, my son took French as well, supposedly the high school Spanish teacher was a bruja. Now I have to help him with Spanish translations in his business! In my maturity, I've resisted even a hint of, I told you so! His children, my grandsons are already taking Spanish...
My grandsons are too young for novelas, but happily, many of today's cartoons/ youth programs are sprinkled with a lot of Spanish!!
