Recappers Needed: Hotel de los Secretos Premiers January 25th, 10pm, Univision

Hello Caraymates!

On January 25th we will start a new journey together…a journey to turn of the last century Mexico. Once we arrive at our destination, we will enter the doors of a grand hotel, filled with shadows and mysteries—El Hotel de los Secretos. Your guides and hosts on this journey will be:

Jardinera (Tuesday)
Vivi (Wednesday)
Cathyx (Friday)
Nandicta (Friday)

As you can see, we still need at least two additional fearless guides to recap Mondays and Thursdays. We’re flexible, if another day works best for you.  Please leave a comment, or email me if you want to join this intrepid recapping team. See you all soon in the dark corridors and passages of the hotel…

I'm not quite ready to jump back into recapping yet - but I'm going to try watching this one, just to see if I can stick with watching a TN again. (Honestly, the time slot is sort of past my bedtime these days, but at least it doesn't conflict with anything else I watch!)

Julie- Looking forward to watching a tn with you again. 10pm is hard! It leaves me wound up afterwards and makes it hard to get to sleep at a good time. But it looks like this tn will be a good one.

-- Vivi: If you can't find anyone for Thursday, I'm willing to take that spot too. I'm five hours ahead of EST and I rely on watching episodes online; hence, by the time the episodes are uploaded online, it is about 8 am my time, so technically I'll be watching the show the next day. If readers don't mind too much getting their recap in the afternoon of the following day (EST) and if nobody else volunteers, please chalk me down as your contingency Thursday recapper.

Nandicta- We can definitely wait until later in the day! I'll let you know if anyone volunteers for that day, but in the meantime I'm tentatively putting you down for Thursday. Thanks so much, amiga!

My pleasure. Estoy para servirte. :)

P.S. I was asked to identify Patios to prove I am not a robot. That's gotta be a good omen, right?

LOL! That's a new one. It's usually food.

I have had to identify trucks, dining rooms, mountains, waterfalls, street signs.

I will have to record this tn since I get up at 5.20. I will give it a try.It looks interesting , and there is a great team of recappers. Thank you

I normally get to identify vegetation, mountains, bodies of water, vehicles and street signs. Then food starts creeping up into the robot identifications from 9 pm onwards, as a friendly invitation to start raiding my fridge after dinner!

P.S. Speaking of which, I'm now invited to point out waffles in a list that contains burgers, shrimp fried rice, a calzone, a pizza and what looks like a big loaf of sourdough bread, in order for this comment to be posted!

Great new pic, Nandicta!

Susanlynn- Yeah, it's on late. But even if you're a day behind most times, I hope you still comment.

¡Gracias, muy amable! :)

VIVI ET AL--I would like to help out with the Hotel recapping schedule. I just can't commit to the whole novela, but I could take every-other Monday in February.

I don't want to do the opening episode on Jan 25, but I can do the following:
Feb. 1, 15 and 29 and then see where we are.

I hope this helps some.
Anita

Anita- Yay! That does help. Gracias, amiga!

Vivi, maybe you could bump this up to the top again or repost it?

Good idea, Cathyx. Done.

Vivi--It seems nobody from YoNo signed up for Hotel besides you.

'Cmon folks, we need your creative skills to bring to the Patio what I think will be an interesting production (and hopefully told with a minimum of regional speech and urban slang).

Anita- We managed to keep Jardinera, and Cathyx used to sub for JdesdeNYC often on YoNo and has signed up for this one. Hoping once the show starts, more interest in recapping it will be generated. Thank you again, for offering your assistance, at least for when we get started.

I can't believe I'm saying this - but I'll take Thursdays.

I'm quite rusty, the show is on late, and I'm usually really tired by Thursday night - but I don't watch anything else on Thursdays, so at least there are no conflicts.

Yay, Julie. Can you record the show? I watch it on Hulu, they have the episodes on the next day.

Well, sure I can record it - I do record it, to make sure I don't miss anything - but I can't wait till next day to watch it. I have a day job, and I'm not a morning person!

Most likely I will watch at night and post in the morning, before I go to work. It all seems to come out better if I let it simmer overnight. (I can post a discussion header before I go to bed, for people who need to start talking about the episode sooner. It happens!)

I'd really like to pick up that skill some people have where they can just casually watch an episode and then quickly write it up right away without missing anything. But I've been recapping since, oh, 2006 I think? And so far I've only been able to do that quickie-same-night thing a handful of times.

Woohooo!!! Yay! Thank you, Julie. Can you email me? I'll send a note to the team today.

Julie, I can't do it that way either. In fact, when I watch, I have to watch, pause, rewind, watch, pause, rewind, etc. because I can't even remember what I just saw a few seconds ago, lol.

Do we know how many episodes this will run for?

Eli- I haven't heard anything specific about the length other than it won't be long.

Cathyx, yes, I'm a pause/rewind type of gal. But it just... takes... so... long.

I've found that if I try to relax and not touch the remote, and take only the sketchiest of notes, I can still do an okay recap. It's like the energy I put into taking detailed notes takes away from my ability to remember the overall story, so I'm almost better off not taking notes at all.

But I'm always in mortal terror that by overlooking one trivial detail, I'll miss something big and important! I'm sure I could save myself a lot of stress if I would trust myself a little more. Between effort and quality, there's a happy medium. The farther I go beyond that medium, the less additional benefit I get for the effort.

I've known that for a long time, but figuring out how to actually do it is taking a while... and still, week after week, I always say, "this time I'm gonna get it right!"

Yo No Creo En Los Hombres was very heavy on the details. It was easy to miss something very important, so recapping that one was the most difficult TN I've ever recapped. You had to write everything that happened and everything that was said because it was going to be important down the line. We'll have to see about this one.

Didn't someone say this show is airing at the same time as it is Mexico? I only saw it showing on Uni, but is that wrong? I haven't had much luck with Univideos and they don't let me watch until a few days after the show airs. I'm in either way to watch, of course, but it'd be nice to watch along with everyone.

Kelly

Kelly- It's actually starting here in the US before it starts in Mexico, just by a few weeks.

I'm really looking forward to one that isn't shown ahead anywhere else. I think the comments will be more exciting that way.

Vivi
Hulu will be streaming Hotel for general interest info.

Thanks, Victoria. I'll check that out. Really don't want to miss this one, mostly for the mystery and the costume potential so far, and hopefully the story meets expectations!

Kelly

Thanks for the info on Hulu, Victoria.

Lordy, lordy folks--I feel somewhat cheated. There have been so many different scenes of Hotel in the promotions, I feel as though I've seen the whole thing minus our Perry Mason courtroom finish.

Of course that won't keep me from watching.

I am looking forward to this one! I saw the original from Spain on Netflix and loved it! The good part is that it will only run80 episodes

It is planned to only run 80 episodes as a series

Just found this site and in advance I want to say you guys are awesome for doing this! I am so psyched about Hotel because I love period pieces. Also, new blood in this one not same old same old. Thanks girls!

Are you still looking for a recapper?

Princess Juju/Eli- Yes! We are still looking for a Monday recapper. I'll email you.

Cubanita- I'm so glad you will be joining us!

Carlos- Amigo, so glad you will be joining us. Only 80 episodes? Music to my ears.

Princess Juju/Vivi - oh no! Somehow I overlooked the fact that Monday wasn't covered. Monday is 1000x better for me than Thursday. Any chance we can switch? (I realize it's late notice and I'll understand if you say no!)

Julie- Since you're already on the team, if you want Monday, Monday is yours! We'll figure out something for Thursday.

Juju/Eli- Would Thursday be of interest to you?

Thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!

Julie- This means you are first up when our tn starts next Monday! How exciting! Can't wait to read how you introduce us to this new world and characters.

Vivi--I assume with Julie taking Mondays this means I won't be doing any recaps. Thursdays is not good for me, but I can take the first Thursday (Jan. 28) before it gets too complicated.

Anita- You are for sure off the hook for Mondays now. Thanks for volunteering for Thursday the 28th. I'm going to send you an email. There's a chance that we might get a Thursday recapper. Fingers crossed.

Vivi--I spent a lot of yesterday watching the clips and the interviews of Hotel on Uni. It sounds as though the actors all enjoyed the intrigues. I was astonished to hear that Erik Elias lost weight for this role--I wonder why. He said he lost 10K (that's about 22 pounds). He really does look different from when I saw him in PEAM, but I attributed it to the period clothing.

Anita- I thought he looked thin in those previews. Not like he's ever been a big guy. Interesting. I'll check out those interviews on Uni.

Is he supposed to be poor and underfed, maybe?

Maybe, Julie. It certainly wouldn't be true to period to have a big, musclebound galan in the role. Just never though of Eric E. as a big guy.

Tonight's the big night! Can't wait to read your recap, Julie!

Yes, EE is rather lean to begin with, which makes me wonder if he's meant to be downright gaunt or sickly at the outset. (You'd think makeup and a loose shirt would be enough for that, though.)

Yeah, I'm looking forward to tonight. It's been a while - I hope my Spanish is up to snuff!!
