EVA LA TRAILERA - JUEVES - Parte 1 de 3
The episode starts with Pablo driving up in front of Eva's house and Eva asking what he's doing there. "I don't know," he tells her. "What do you mean, you don't know?" she asks him. "Look me in the eye and tell me what you're doing here." "Well," he replies, "I'll look you in the eye, but you can't blame me if I also look at all the rest of you." She's in no mood to hear this. He goes on to explain, "I couldn't sleep last night, I was remembering your tears and your words, and your smile lit up the dawn." Eva is now furious. After learning that her husband has been unfaithful to her, the last thing she wants to hear is another Don Juan (picaflor). She tells Pablo that she thought he was different, and that his saving her life doesn't give him the right to seduce her. "I'm a married woman," she tells him, and if he doesn't leave right away she'll call the police. He leaves. We see that Bobby Monteverde has overheard this discussion. How this will figure in the plot isn't yet clear (at least not to me).
The scene now shifts briefly to Bobby at school, where he is telling his classmate Isabel how his parents explained the seeming difference between his blood type and theirs. "Perhaps they're lying," she says. "All parents lie." "Yours, perhaps," he replies, "but not mine." Viewerville smiles sadly at his misplaced trust.
Eva, very confused about what to do, comes to see her supposed best friend Marlene. Instead of Marlene, she encounters a strange man. Marlene appears and explains that he's her brother, Andy, who has been away for ten years. Andy leaves them alone to talk. Eva has come to seek Marlene's advice about Armando. She doesn't know what to do. Her children are the most important thing to her. She doesn't know whether she should reject Armando or forgive him (No se si mandar a Armando por un tubo o perdonarlo). Yesterday, she was filled with disgust for him, but today she feels differently. She thinks he has repented, and they have had twenty years together, with much love and many beautiful moments. It's not easy to put him out of her life and away from their children. She keeps going back and forth, she says. She finally says that she'll leave Marlene to be with her brother, and they'll talk again later. She leaves. As soon as she does, Marlene says to herself that she'd better act quickly or else Eva and Armando will reconcile. She picks up the phone but then decides she shouldn't make the call, there's a danger she'd be discovered.
While Eva and Marlene are talking, Armando sees a strange man outside his house and asks who he is. Andy introduces himself as Armando's partner, Andres Palacio. They talk briefly, and then Armando says to him, "If you want to continue making money, no one must find out about our business." Andy agrees that his lips are sealed.
When Andy comes back inside, Marlene asks him to make a phone call. I think she says something about wanting the scandal to burst right away (Necesito que este escandalo reviente ahora mismo). We then see Carmen answer a call from a private number, and a male voice asks her "Do you know who your daughter is sleeping with?" A short time later, Carmen confronts Sofia, calls her a zorra (b-tch), and slaps her. In the course of the conversation, a very sad Sofia tells her mother that Armando has ended it with her. This enrages Carmen: "he rejected you?" She says they have to tell Eva everything, so she'll know what kind of man Armando is. But Sofia says they can't do this, because Armando has told her he'll kill her if she says anything.

After all, he says, Sofia is no angel, and Armando didn't rape her or hold a pistol to her head. An enraged Carmen slaps him. Once she realizes that he's not going to do anything, she calls Armando and tells him they have to talk. He reluctantly agrees to meet her in an hour.
Armando then goes to Marlene and asks for her help. She tells to calm down. Meet with Carmen and make her an offer. Carmen knows that if she tells the truth to Eva, she (Carmen) will lose everything. Thus, she'll accept an offer. "Trust me, Armando, keep your blood cold and your checkbook ready."
The scene shifts to Pablo with some other workers at Mon-Sol. Suddenly Betty arrives. Pablo is not pleased to see her there. He tells her that she's putting his investigation at risk (SpanProf was clearly right in recognizing that he's still with the police and is working undercover). Pablo explains that a person like Betty (a district attorney fiscal) would not have anything to do with a common worker such as Pablo is pretending to be. They continue talking for quite a while. Betty tells him she wants to formalize their relationship. Not surprisingly, this prompts Pablo to say that he doesn't want to hurt her, and what he wants is what she at first proposed, that they be friends, without commitments. She leaves in a huff.
There's then a rather sad and ironic scene between Eva and Sofia. Sofia wanted to enter Armando's office even though he wasn't there. Marlene tells her she cannot do so. Eva comes along, sees Sofia upset, and takes her aside to talk with her. She's very tender and caring with Sofia, who she thinks has just broken up with her novio.(!) "It hurts to grow up," she observes to Sofia. "Finding true love isn't easy. You have to kiss a lot of toads. But you shouldn't settle, you deserve the best man in the world." Sofia then leaves, and once no one can hear her, she says to an absent Armando, "Eva will never make you as happy as I would."
There's a scene in which the mysterious couple who apparently hate the Monteverdes are in their car. They are watching another car, in which we see Bobby Monteverde and Isabel. The mystery woman (do we know her name yet?) gets out of the car to get a better look as Bobby and Isabel emerge from the car and Isabel goes into her house. Mystery woman returns to her car and tells Mystery Man that she's sure Bobby is their son who was stolen from them. "A mother always knows," she tells Mystery Man.
Isabel emerges from her house and sees a naked man (Andy) dive into her swimming pool. She yells at him. He gets out of the pool and stands in front of her. She demands that he cover himself. He wraps a towel around himself, plops down in a chaise longue, and invites Isabel to take off her clothes and join him. "What's the matter, your parents won't let you?" She threatens to call the police unless he leaves. He does so. There's probably a point to this scene, but it escapes me.

As arranged, Armando drives up and Carmen gets into the car. She says she doesn't want to talk in the car, so they go to some cafe where they can sit down. He tells her he will never divorce Eva, and he asks her how much she wants so that Eva won't know. She tells him he can't buy her, and that Sofia is pregnant with his child. He replies, "Oh, come on, that trap is as old as the hills (Esa trampa es más viejo que la sarna). They argue back and forth. She tells him, "Marry Sofia and take responsibility for your child." When it's clear that's not going to happen, she tells him that her price is that he make her a partner at Mon-Sol. He tells her he will have to consult Eva. Carmen tells him she wants an answer within two weeks.
Back at Mon-Sol, Pablo comes to Marlene's office and tells her he wants to resign. She asks him why. Eva comes in and says there's no way he's going to resign. They go to an area where they can talk privately. It's clear that they have feelings for each other, but neither says anything about that. (Perhaps they won't know until they read this recap.) Finally, Eva tells him that tomorrow, he can do what he wants, but today, he's not going to resign.
Carmen returns to her house and tells Sofia about her plans. Sofia tells her that there's no baby, but Carmen informs her that the baby exists as long as she (Carmen) says it does. Sofia also says that Armando doesn't love her. Carmen replies that it's not about love, it's about taking advantage of an opportunity and that she no longer wants to be poor. Evencio (who apparently is not Sofia's biological father) overhears and says "So in order not to be poor, you'll sell your daughter's honor." Carmen tells him to leave. He turns to Sofia and says "I may be a drunk, but I don't sell you. Don't let your mother use you. Life is short. You were the daughter life gave me. Too bad I couldn't be a good father." He leaves.
Eva reluctantly agrees to go to a fancy French restaurant with Armondo. There, he tells her not to end things over one error. She's well aware that it's not just "one error," but she also tells him that his infidelity isn't as important to her as his coldness toward Fabiola. He promises to be different, and asks her to tell him what he has to do. [If he has to ask....] She finally tells him she has two conditions: one is that she needs space and time, and that includes their not sleeping with each other. "Until when?" he asks. "Until the hurt is gone." The other thing is that there must be no more lies. [Hah!]
In the final scene, an employee brings Marlene documents about a real estate sale that will take place the next day. The employee tells her that the lawyer wants to see "el jefe" (presumably Armando) and her at his office first thing in the morning. Marlene is very pleased. "Tomorrow ends your happiness, comadre," she says to herself. "Tomorrow starts my new life." End of episode.

I was thinking this was a pretty one dimensional show, but wow, there are about a zillion things going on and they just pop out of nowhere, this show is becoming a real soap opera,
and every time Carmen slaps someone, I can't stop laughing.

I'm really enjoying this show. No time to comment right now, except to say that in one scene somebody was reading a magazine and guess what magazine? Why, National Look! A little crossover to help us transition out of Bajo.

I've noticed a missing "him" and a missing comma, but the only thing I want to clarify is the slightly ambiguous "comadre" at the recap's end. I wrote "'Tomorrow ends your happiness, comadre,'" she says to herself." Although she is saying/thinking this to herself, she is addressing an absent Eva.

Arrgh, I don't mean to correct all the errors I see, but I do think that since part of the point of including Spanish is to help other Spanish learners, I should get it right. I'm pretty sure that the expression in Parte 3 should read Esa trampa es más vieja que la sarna, since "vieja" modifies "trampa." If I'm wrong, please let me know.

I think what gave Eva second thoughts about Armando is that he slept on the floor outside her door, these two must have been a wild and crazy couple when they were younger.
Sofia being pregnant (not true) jumped out of nowhere, refreshing that Armando rejected the idea because he told Sofia to make sure that didn't happen and if it did that's her problem.
I think I saw Armando's license plate as being from California.
I don't think Pablo is with the police, maybe a private detective.

what we know so far is they are investigating a robbery, Eva knows them, they have bought the neighboring house, and Soraya thinks Bobby is the baby that was stolen from them (mother's instinct).
I did hear Bobby call Eva's daughter Isabel, but she is listed in the cast list as Adriana, which is what Eva calls her, did the nude Andy tell her sluts have more fun?

And when Carmen first told Armando that Sofia was pregnant, I thought OMG, how did I miss that? I was much relieved when, later in the episode, both Sofia and Carmen made it clear that there was no pregnancy.
I think Andy may indeed have said that sluts have more fun. The problem is, I didn't put that in the notes I was taking, and therefore it never happened. :-)

Marlene’s plots are confusing. She tries to hurt Eva by having her find out about Armando’s affair with Sofía and then later works with Armando to help him sweep said scandal under the rug.
The Betty actress is playing a very similar role to the one in Dama y Obrero a while back. She’s right out of that book: He’s Just Not That Into You. She pushes and pushes for marriage and can’t accept the obvious signs that the man she’s pursuing is never going to want to marry her.
This “Case of the Stolen Bobby” is intriguing. I can’t fathom how the Monteverdes managed to get the kid away from them (do we know their names yet; I certainly don’t). Was he a baby, a toddler?
I think the point of the scene with Andy’s outrageous behavior was to show that he’s 100% patán and probably going to seduce a girl who’s standing there in one of those private school uniforms with the neckties that they love to show in telenovelas. Do girls really wear stuff like that? No clue, as I’m a proud graduate of the Ohio public school system!

Eva vs Bajo
A big difference I notice between Eva and Bajo is that in Bajo all the motives of the villains were crystal clear from the beginning. Felicia wanted Carlos and she wanted a baby. And we even felt sympathy for her from time to time. Colmillo was a sadistic psychopath who wanted power and money. His one weakness was that he loved his child and, psychopath that he was, refused to accept that Noemi got into drugs and died through no fault of Adela. Rodrigo, villain at first and flawed hero toward the end, was playing by the rules of gang life.
In Eva the main villain, at least up to now, is Marlene. So she and her crappy brother somehow ended up without money and had to sell their mansion. Armando, NOT EVA, bought it. And for this Eva is to be destroyed? Would any person who bought the house have her on their case for 10 years? This plot doesn't work for me that well.

In Eva the main villain, at least up to now, is Marlene. So she and her crappy brother somehow ended up without money and had to sell their mansion. Armando, NOT EVA, bought it. And for this Eva is to be destroyed? Would any person who bought the house have her on their case for 10 years? This plot doesn't work for me that well.

novelera- yes, Bajo was a multidimensional, well written, well acted, well produced drama and then some.
Eva, well, something went boing last night when Carmen instead of being regretful at slapping her daughter, slapped her a second time, and later slapped her husband, and will hopefully slap everyone else, and I stopped taking this show so seriously, and all of a sudden it became fun to watch all of this craziness.
I think Marlene's plan is to remain trusted by Eva and Armando while pulling the rug out from under them, and any conflicts between them opens that door, and her main motivation is that she is now subservient and dependent on these two people that she looks down upon. (apparently Eva saving her life doesn't figure in)
LXV- I think they mentioned Andy was overseas, plus he has been anonymously doing business with Armando, and curious he didn't seem to be around when Marlene hung herself, but he sure is after some lady action like he has been in prison.
Juanita- I'm going with all of these people being nuts, including bug-eyed Pablo and Betty with benefits.

Eva. Excellent recap, Juanita, and great comparison between Eva and Bajo, novelera, especially with respect to the plot weaknesses of Eva. In Eva, Marlene is really diabolical, and Andy and Armando are obviously involved in some kind of shady deal. Evancio has a right-on analysis of Carmen and Sofía, and apart from his drinking doesn't seem like that bad a fellos (at least not so far).

Juanita: Amen! I adored La Reina del Sur and hated for it to end. When they began doing promos for it, I read the book first (in English) and later re-read it in Spanish. Of course, as always, the TN version had lots of things that were not in the book: Fátima and her son, Patty O'Farrell, and many others.

and did Soraya ever get an earful at the apartment after Eva catches Armando and Sofia doing the deed, (another story) and after Eva leaves, chased by Armando, and how big was that apartment building, seems like the chase went on for hours, till Eva kneed him in the groin, on her way out,

FATMAGUL: Thursday, 1/18/16, Turkish Episode 39 Part 2, Season 1 Finale
Part 1:
After Selim calls, reveals he knows about her and Mustafa, and threatens her life, a shaken Meltem calls Mustafa. She gets confirmation that the rapists are free, then blames Mustafa. Had he told the truth from the beginning, they would have never been freed!
Mustafa heads down to the docks to try to turn back time and hang out with his fisherman buddies, like old times. One of his buddies lets him know that he’s not welcomed. Rumors fly, and the rumor on the streets is that he betrayed Fatma and he sold himself to the Yasaran. He points to Mustafa’s rich boy clothes and fancy car as proof. Mustafa goes back to his default lie (Kerim is the sole rapist and lied about the Yasaran), and to blaming others (his buddy was the one who told him Kerim was the rapist in the first place). His friend grudgingly allows Mustafa to take out the boat by himself.
Asu/Hacer finds her way to Izmir and Mustafa’s house. She is spotted by Mustafa’s mother, who first tells her to beat it, then pleads with Asu for more information when she reveals that both she and Mustafa are in town for the rape trial. Seems Mustafa did not tell his parents why he is there.
The Yasaran return to Istanbul. Selim spends his first day of freedom angry crying and ripping up pictures of Meltem. Erdogan spends his day soaking in a warm bubble bath, while sipping on bourbon and nibbling on snacks. His mom, Hilmiye, interrupts his Calgon moment to tell him Resat wants to have a family meeting and discuss the sale of Erdogan and Hilmiye’s house. This is the first Erdogan is hearing of this plan to sell their house and move into the big house with Resat, Perihan, and Selim, and he’s NOT on board with that plan.
Vural and his parents stay in their house in Ildir. Vural takes to his bed, and Semsi and Lehman give him his space to rest. The guilt continues to eat at Vural, and follows him into his dreams. We see his nightmare—He is handcuffed with his hands behind his back in defendant’s box in the courtroom. The only other person present is his accuser, Fatmagul. She is as she was the night they raped her—bruised and disheveled. Dream Fatmagul confronts Vural about how he would feel if someone did what he did to a woman he loves—a sister or future daughter? She’ll never leave him in peace until he tells the truth. She takes the handkerchief from her neck and, like the rapists did, uses it to gag Vural. He wakes screaming.
Kerim has spent the day sitting under the lone, twisted tree in the clearing where the rape took place—thinking and crying, crying and thinking.
Back at the hotel, Fatmagul and Ebe Nine worry about Kerim. Kadir tells them about Kerim going to the pharmacy, but the more time passes, the less plausible that seems. Kadir goes off to look for him. Fatma, Ebe Nine and Rahmi discuss the trial and their living situation. Rahmi tells everyone that he remembers where he has seen Yasar before—the day of the restaurant opening, when the roses were delivered. Rahmi has predictably caved, now that he has learned Mukaddes is expecting his baby. Fatma tells Rahmi that she cannot live under the same roof as Mukaddes. Rahmi is hurt and thinks she feels that they are a burden. Ebe Nine intercedes and says that she, Fatmagul, and Kerim will move out. (Thank you, Ebe Nine!)

Kerim spots him, calls him out for being a lying, cowardly, miserable SOB (Vural agrees), and proceeds to beat the crap out of him, in between trying to drag him to the truck to go to the police to change his statement. Neither of them notices Mustafa pulling up and docking his boat, and then creeping up to hide in the brush. Mustafa hears and sees the whole argument, including Vural taking a rock, offering it to Kerim, then bashing his own forehead with it and demanding that Kerim kill him! Kerim forces the rock out of Vural’s hand, then gives up trying to force Vural to come with him. He’ll go to the police by himself! Kerim leaves Vural crying miserably, alone, and nearly gets hit by another car as he pulls his truck out from the clearing.
Once he sees that Kerim is long gone, Mustafa emerges from the bushes to confront Vural. He acts as if this is the first time he’s learning that Vural raped Fatmagul. He confronts Vural, and punches him hard enough for Vural to fall backwards to the ground. Vural’s head smashes against a rock and a broken, discarded beer bottle. Vural’s eyes go lifeless, and stare accusingly at Mustafa. Realizing what he’s done, Mustafa runs towards the boat and immediately takes off. He brings the boat back to the dock and tries to go unnoticed by the fishermen there.
Kadir spots Kerim along the road and they both pull over. Kadir sees Kerim’s bloody knuckles and the blood wiped on his white shirt, and demands to know what the hell Kerim’s been up to! He tells him about punching Vural and trying to force him to go to the police to tell the truth. Kadir lets him know how supremely stupid that was. He’s had it up to here with Kerim being unable to control himself and doing this stupid stuff! He’s sure the Yasaran will use this as ammunition. He orders Kerim back to the hotel. Kadir will go to the police right now and explain the fight to them, to beat the Yasaran to the punch.
A little later, Kerim (in a fresh shirt) finds Fatmagul alone, sitting on an overturned boat on the beach. He sits beside her. She is feeling particularly pessimistic. She thinks they should give up—they can’t beat them. She’s tired. She can’t do it anymore. And he’s even changed—he’s lost control. He promises that he will never again lose control. He gives her a pep talk, and begs her not to give up. She wonders if there is somewhere else they can go to have a new start. She can’t breathe anymore. He tells her they still have hope for that future. He kisses her gently on the cheek, then wipes away her tears. He pulls her into a tight hug and then both cry freely.

The police inform Kerim he is under arrest for the murder of Vural Namli. Kerim spots Mustafa exiting his car and approaching. He barely has time to react to that, when what he’s accused of sinks in. He begins to fight the police, refusing to enter the patrol car, and swearing he did NOT kill Vural. Ebe calls Kadir and tells him to turn back! The police manage to get Kerim into the car, and drive away. Fatmagul calls out for Kerim and runs after the police car. He turns to look at her through the rear window, sees her running, sees when she stumbles and falls, and sees when Mustafa runs up behind her, takes her into his arms and picks her up, telling her he’s here for her (the nerve!). The car rounds the corner, and Kerim does not see when Fatma shakes Mustafa off her and tells him to leave her alone. She looks back in the direction of the police car and says Kerim’s name softly.

That was quite the season finale! I can imagine that the audience that originally had to wait for Season 2 for months were on pins and needles, waiting to see what happened to poor Kerim. Ugh! I could not believe the nerve of Mustafa, knowing HE'S the murderer, coming up to Fatmagul, putting his hands on her, calling her "querida", and saying he is there for her. Not even vultures are that bad.
I wish Vural had actually done something useful before he died, like a videotaped confession or something. But he was useless as usual, right up to the end.
I haven't seen Friday's episode yet. I'll watch later. Excited to see how season two started.

I wish Vural had actually done something useful before he died, like a videotaped confession or something. But he was useless as usual, right up to the end.
I haven't seen Friday's episode yet. I'll watch later. Excited to see how season two started.

Soraya is one weird character. Eva and she barely know each other and already Soraya is telling her her life story. Not to mention the "dark energy" she claims is surrounding Sofia. (I wonder what she'll sense when she meets Marlene.)
So now both Carmen and Eva have slapped Sofia. I wonder whether it runs in the family. Has Sofia inherited the Slap gene, and if so, who will she slap?

You just knew when Kerim drove off....something was going to happen...and when you saw Mustafa arrive on the scene...you knew it would be nothing good. Now we in viewerville know exactly what happened with Vural...and we all know that Mustafa is not going to fess up. Fatma can't catch a break with the drama.

Eva. Second it on the great remarks, deb! Loved it when Armando first got kneed and then tased. There was never anyone who had it coming more. I also loved the horrified expression on Soraya's face as she watched the confrontation between Eva and Sofia (and Armando). I think she may turn out to be a wonderful friend for Eva. Armando must be pretty stupid if he hasn't figured out that since he didn't tell Eva about the affair with Sofia, and Sofia didn't, and it would have been a horrible ethical violation if the lawyer handling the property transfer had, the only other possibility is Marlene. Marlene is different from Felicia in Bajo (as I believe someone else has remarked) because despite Felicia's resentful attitude, she did have some legitimate gripes--Carlos did kind of string her along, and she may have lost the baby because she was helping Greicy escape, when she should have been on bed rest, whereas Eva has never shown anything but kindness and friendship to Marlene.

That trial had me boiling mad at the descarado of the yasarans&co (IMO Spanish words capture their vileness so much better)
Yep Vural was useless right to the end, all those tears and sorrys were for nothing. And I could practically feel fatmagul trying to will him to tell the truth at the trial and was so disappointed (which I really shouldn't have been) when he didn't.
Agree with y'all about Mustafa gladly keeping his mouth shut. I'm glad that fatmagul seems to have shut that door between for good.
Romy, don't know how you did it from season 1 & 2. How long did you have to wait? And that last scene was probably straight out of kerim's nightmares. Being taken away from fatmagul while mustafa hovers protectively near her.
And now we have season 2 with fatmagul and ebe nine living with kadir,with which I'm totally on board. It's sweet to see how much he looks out for them, and how happy he is to have them live with him. And its also sweet to see Mukkades regulated to the much smaller side house. Found it funny how fatmagul and ebe nine were totally ignoring her while they were unpacking. Although I do feel bad for Rahmi, stuck in the middle of this situation.
And so Asu (with her sleek new look) turns out to be a witness to kerim's innocence. Him almost running into that car when he left the beach that night did stick out, and now we know why. I can't remember if she told mustafa if that's why she needed fatmagul's # but hopefully she figures out that ain't no way no how that mustafa will let her tell the truth if he can stop it. Fingers crossed that she'll wise up and go directly to the police.

ok, what do we remember about Pablo, no if, ands, or buts, he is quiting Mon-Sol, but goes to work the next day where he finds a drunk Evencio (who has been kicked out of the house by Carmen who will soon learn the deal is off becoming a new partner due to the promiscuous ways of her daughter, as Armando tried to make clear to Eva, "it's all her fault") and gets the job of babysitting him, only to learn, that Evencio on his truck runs would stop at a bar, and get drunk, while thieves would empty the truck, but instead of getting fired Armando would pay him extra,
only drunks, lunatics and children tell the truth, Pablo's pop says at their office later, but a good witness he will not make, as Pablo rants about getting off the case, and spills about how earlier as a policeman and killing one guy, the other (el Chivo) was let go and put a hit on him, only to kill his wife, is why he and his dad both quit and started this agency.
it's amazing how being with Eva for a couple of hours has had this much an effect on you, father Martin remarks.

Diego and Fabiola are in a tree trying to capture a bird to give to Eva, when a branch gives way.

Forgot to mention how beautiful fatmagul's new bedroom is...that view is just gorgeous. I'm so happy that she has her own space, but it was cute of Murat to offer to share the same bed with her again. And I like the detail of how we saw her put kerim's things among her stuff. They sure have come a long way.

FATMAGUL: Thursday, 1/29/16, Turkish Episode 40 Part 1, Season 2 Premier
Part 1:
Our story starts back up almost a month after Kerim was arrested. We are immediately plunged into a dream, of a very real looking funeral for Vural. Lehman weeps inconsolably. The Yasaran boys prepare to roll up their sleeves to bury their friend. Suddenly, Semsi spots someone, calls him out as the killer of his son, and runs towards him. The accused killer is the person having the dream—Mustafa. Dream Mustafa pulls out a gun and begins shooting, killing both Erdogan and Selim. Mustafa wakes with a start, and paces around his room. He soon gets a call. It’s Asu/Hacer. She’s back in the country, with a sleek new bob hairstyle, and she has something very important to tell Fatmagul. Kerim did NOT kill Vural. She was there that night and knows for sure. She wants a number for Fatma or her brother so that she can tell them. Mustafa tries not to panic, and instead convinces Asu to tell him what hotel she’s staying in. He’ll come to her…
We jump back to one day earlier. Fatmagul and Ebe Nine are with movers in a truck, driving along the highway, transporting all their furniture and possessions. Fatma spots Mustafa’s car following them, and lets him know she knows. She has the truck pull over, and Mustafa pulls over too. Fatma tells him off. She wants him to stop stalking her. Just because he told the truth at the trial, does not give him rights over her. It’s the least that he could do! He claims he just wants to protect her from the Yasaran. She calls b.s. on that and says she doesn’t need his protection. Ebe Nine backs her up. Mustafa then tells Fatma that she shouldn’t trust Kerim, and that she’ll realize the kind of person he is. Then tells them he’s happy they are moving to the lawyer’s house (Kadir). Although they make sure he drives off first, Fatma and Ebe Nine now know that Mustafa knows where to find and stalk them.
They arrive to Kadir’s beautiful family home (where he grew up), a two story house, with a detached one story in-law bungalow. Rahmi, Mukaddes and Murat are already installed in the bungalow. Fatma and Ebe Nine are still no longer speaking to Mukaddes unless absolutely necessary. The main house is beautifully furnished downstairs, which is where Kadir’s bedroom, study, a bathroom, and living room are located, in addition to some photos of his deceased wife, which Fatma and Ebe admire. Upstairs, where Fatma, Ebe, and Kerim will live, are three additional rooms, another bathroom, and a kitchen. Kadir gives Fatmagul the best room in the house, with a large balcony and a beautiful view of the river and Istanbul in the distance. He is excited to have them there, and thanks them for restoring life into his childhood home.
The unpacking begins. Mukaddes gets out of helping by complaining about pregnancy symptoms. Fatmagul puts her clothes away in her armoire, including the wedding dress. Then she unpacks Kerim’s clothes lovingly and places them in the other half of her armoire and drawers. She goes through his box of keepsakes and looks at his photos of both his moms and himself as a little boy. Then she takes out his most prized keepsake, the crocheted flower chain she made, and kisses it tenderly. Then she puts his keepsake box on top of the armoire. Later over lunch (segregated from Mukaddes), Kadir tells Fatma that he’s secured a pass for her to finally visit Kerim in jail. Unfortunately, since Ebe Nine is neither his biological nor legally adopted mother, they weren’t able to get her a pass. Ebe asks Fatma to give Kerim both of their love.
Outside, Mustafa has parked and continues his stalker duties.

FATMAGUL: Friday Episode, Part 2
In prison, Kerim is having trouble being patient. He meets with Omer, and complains that there still hasn’t been a trial date set. Plus, he doesn’t think that Kadir believes he’s innocent. He flashes back to shortly after his arrest. He meets with Kadir who demands that he tell him the whole truth. Kerim gets agitated and swears he didn’t do it. He only gets a brief glimpse of Fatmagul out in the police precinct hallway, and again as the police take him away to prison. He swears to her that he didn’t do it, and she tells him she believes him. Back in the present, Omer assures Kerim that he and Kadir believe in him. He shows Kerim the forensics report that shows the blow to the back of the head from falling to the ground and hitting a rock is what killed Vural. Kerim wonders if Vural could have slipped and fallen all on his own. It’s a possibility, but hard to prove, especially when it’s already proven that Kerim was there and beat him up. Omer tells Kerim that they are working on getting approval for Fatma to visit him.
The Yasaran boys go to visit Lehman at the hospital, where she has been interned since Vural’s funeral after she had a mental breakdown. She is being released that day, but Selim and Erdogan aren’t her only visitors. Meltem and Ender are back in Turkey, and have just visited Lehman. Selim has to restrained from striking Meltem as he curses her and Mustafa. He says he knows their affair is why Mustafa is now working for her father, Turaner. Once outside, Ender wants to know if it’s true about Meltem and Mustafa, and if that’s why she had Turaner give him a job? Meltem acts offended, but doesn’t really deny it all either.
Looks like Lehman and Semsi are staying with Resat and Perihan, because that’s where they take her when she’s released from the hospital. Lehman blames Semsi for Vural’s death, since he prevented her from looking in on Vural that night. He loses it, and yells at her that she’s not the only one grieving their son’s death!
At the offices, Munir and Resat are meeting with Selim and Erdogan to figure out how to save the company. Erdogan is still refusing to sell his house. Resat points out that it belongs to the company. Selim is too busy obsessing over Meltem and Mustafa and vowing to kill them. Munir has a chat with him, and basically tells him to cool off and stop obsessing. They don’t need another scandal on top of all the others. Does he want to end up like Vural?
Asu/Hacer arrives back to Turkey, looking like an Italian movie star (according to Sami), with her new sleek bob, and upmarket clothes. Sami, who is now a legit cab driver, picks her up at the airport. He tells her that her former client, Vural is dead. Killed by Kerim. She can’t believe it. She looks up the story online once she gets to her hotel, and sees the date and location of the murder. She flashes back to that night, when Kerim pulled out quickly from the clearing and nearly collided with her taxi. He kept going, she had the cab driver stop, and she got out of the car. She spotted a very much alive Vural, alone, crying in the clearing. She got back in her cab and left. But she is absolutely certain that Kerim DIDN’T do it!
End of episode.

Novelera, I had read The Queen of the South in English some years ago and liked it a lot. I was thus VERY excited when I heard that Telemundo had plans to base a telenovela on it, and that Arturo Perez-Reverte, the novel's author, would be involved in the telenovela's creation. I then tried to read it in Spanish as I was watching the novela, but my Spanish simply wasn't good enough. After about 160+ pages, I gave up.
You're right, the telenovela included segments and characters that weren't in the novel, such as Fatima and her son, but I'm pretty sure that Patty played a big role in the novel as well as in the novela. Willy and Veronica, however, were added, and I think the role of Oleg Yasikov was greatly expanded in the telenovela.

Novelera, I had read The Queen of the South in English some years ago and liked it a lot. I was thus VERY excited when I heard that Telemundo had plans to base a telenovela on it, and that Arturo Perez-Reverte, the novel's author, would be involved in the telenovela's creation. I then tried to read it in Spanish as I was watching the novela, but my Spanish simply wasn't good enough. After about 160+ pages, I gave up.

I knew Kerim didn't do it but Musta was on the loose, Kerim in jail and the Yasaran bent on revenge, oy. I swear I cried when Fatma got her own room for the first time in her life. Kadir is a life saver. It was also sweet of Kader bey to give FG the nicest room in the house … he happiness of finally having a room of her own just shows how much she needed her privacy and how intruding and nosy Mukka was, FG needed to get away from her which -in my opinion- is one of the reasons why she thought she loved Mustafa and wanted to marry him. Once again Kerim got himself in trouble for a lack of self control. Unfortunately Asu is telling the wrong person first, oy. Thank you Vivi for the recap.

-So Bibiana went into a coma after being shot while being rescued from her kidnappers. After some days, and with no hope of her waking up, Duarte gives permission for the doctors to pull the plug.
-Having lost her protection with el centauro gone Yola gets horribly beaten up and almost ganged rape by his rivals.
-El centauro stupidly sends a note to yolanda via her public defense lawyer asking for an explaination on why she wasn't able to escape with him as planned and that he still has his eye on her. This note (after being read by yola)is caught by the honest guard at the prison who passes it on to Duarte.
-The police commissioner tells Duarte that the higher ups have practically given them carte blanche to capture el centauro. This, along with the confiscated note, gives Duarte the idea to use Yolanda as bait. The commissioner is skeptical but agrees. Duarte goes to speak to Yola about this proposal, just in time to save her from the rape. The bastard inmates are not caught, and Yola doesn't name them since she says it won't do any good.
-Duarte outlines the plan. 1) Yolanda gets out on house arrest. The police will monitor her, and tap her phone. 2)Wait for el centauro to make contact and trap him when he does. Yolanda isn't sure el centauro will come looking for her, but Duarte has no doubts. She will agree if he helps her daughter. Yolanda thinks that Christina is to be sold by the grandmother. She believes this because of something Cristina mentioned when they last talked, she knows what a witch her mother is, and she tried to do the same thing to her when she was younger.
-Unfortunately she's right. The grandmother from hell has drugged Cristina, dressed her in hooker clothes, and sends her in a cab to her buyer. She will use the money to pay off Otoniel's (gambling?) debt. He has no idea of her plans, nor would he go along with them.
-Foturnately, Duarte and Bianchini are able to find her (with assistance,police & others) before she gets taken beyond their reach. The buyer gets away. Because of the drugs, Cristina has no memory of what has occurred since that morning. Bianchini, pretending to check up on her from juvie court, gives her the bare details. Some random men tried to kidnapp her.

-Meanwhile, at centauro's hideout, a sprawling ranch that apparently is invisible, he reunites with his scary wife and demented son. El centauro feels he can't do anything because he's hiding in a rival gang's territory (el cirujano's), there is a manhunt for him, and his accounts are being frozen. Julia, his wife, tells him to be a man and take action. He decides to take over el cirujano's territory and business. His plan is to send el cirujano a gold pistol they both coveted when they were younger, with (I think) a GPS tracker hidden inside. Apparently they use to be buds when they were kids, their sons even played together.
-Vincent is placed among the rank and file of the men, but his installation doesn't go smoothly. There seems to be discord on what exactly his position is and who he reports to. El centauro, who is mopey about Yola, gets vincent to secretly (i.e. without his wife finding out) get info about Yola. Vincente gets all the info from lucho.
-There's an article in the newspaper. Because of human rights violations the female inmates at San Fernando will be removed and split among various female prisons. Tania,because of the torture by a guard, had her release pushed forward and is now free. Yola, because of the brutal beating by male inmates, will serve the rest of her time under house arrest (her cover story). I don't know if her sentence is shortened as well.
-Yola is taken home by the prison guards and graciously welcomed by her mom. Her mom, being so gracious, immediately starts her working on earning her keep by taking in laundry for Yola to do. Mariela soon starts to drive Yola crazy.
-During their first meet (in Yola's kitchen) she tell Duarte she's not sure how much she can handle, and says a week has passed and she doesn't know if the plan will work. Feeling guilty because of his wife's death, he says it MUST work. Yola tells him feeling guilty doesn't help. Cristina then walks in and is told that Duarte is yola's social worker.
-We are introduced to el cirujano who is doing business with the Colombians. There seems to be an internal fight for more power between the son and nephew (I think).
-Cristina seems to have some issues with Yola's mothering, she doesn't want her to hang out with lucho. Otoniel gives Yola a pep talk about always making sure she's there for Cristina. Duarte sees all this from the hidden cameras they have installed. (I'm not even sure that Yola knows about these, I think all they told her was about the tapped phone). His estimate of Yola goes up for being strong despite all she's gone through.
-Vicente secretly calls Tania, which I'm sure will come back and bite him later. He gets stuck in his hideout when the patron's son comes in to have what appears as s&m sex with a prostitute.

I get a kick out of how male actors in telenovelas do the deed with their pants still on!
I'm glad Eva has a REAL friend in Soraya, but it strains credibility that Soraya would show up uninvited and immediately spill that the Monteverdes had her child, not to mention being sold by her stepfather to sex traffickers. And that Soraya would be accompanying Eva to that apartment. Somebody refresh my memory. Did the transfer of property paperwork say that Sofía was the owner or just that Armando was deeding it over?
I got the impression that Marlene's plan is to get Armando to fall for her. She said something to Andy: Va a caer during the conversation about which dress to vamp him with. And isn't that Andy the skeeziest looking guy ever! I won't be able to stand it if he's able to seduce Adriana.
And speaking of Adriana, she somewhat redeemed herself by her behavior toward her mother. Before that I was disgusted with the entitled little brat.
I'm kind of over the slapping. The actress playing Carmen was equally annoying in En Otra Piel as the off-again-on-again alcoholic sister of the protagonist. Of course in that one she enabled her murderous daughter. In this one she's telling her daughter to keep her legs together.
I've seen Arap Bethke in several novelas. In Doña Bárbara he played the loyal capataz of Santos Luzardo's hacienda, Altamira. He was the evil Victorino in the odd novela Victorinos which I gave up on 3/4 of the way through. I also saw him in Madre Luna a long time ago.
It's true he isn't the typical galan, not quite as gorgeous. But he is certainly a serviceable actor. There is a similarity to his role in Doña Bárbara. In that one he fell in love with and won an older woman, Santos Luzardo's tía. And I think he's meant to be a lot younger than Eva, and is offended when she calls him chamaco.

odd that Eva asks Carmen how long she knew (Sultry Sofia has been boinking Armando for 3 or 4 months now), because (and I keep waiting to find out it was Marlene that set up the lipstick on the undies, but that's just not happening) apparently no one knew, except for the maids, till Eva found out and made the announcement over the PA, and it appears Marlene was first to make the connection to Sofia, watching her fidget around, which was confirmed by Armando when he asked for her help, who then gave Sofia the watch tipping off Carmen that something was up, but it wasn't till it looked like Armando and Eva were going to reconcile, that Marlene had Andy anonymously call Carmen tipping her off but when that wasn't panning out she then set up Eva to discover the next day.
So I'm curious as to what Carmen's answer will be, because she'll be looking for a way to get her foot back in the door.

I watched this one over the weekend and while I was entertained, I doubt I'll watch it regularly since the storylines are all paint-by-numbers to me. The mystery of the fraud at Mon-Sol, or Eva going back on-the-road in the tractor trailer does not strike me as prime time material after the meaty material in Bajo. They should've moved Fatmagul to this spot after Bajo finished and premiered this one later.
I really wished Jorge Luis was the galan in this one, since this detective role is the classic mode for him and not the weak-willed, skeezy, ambiguously evil roles that I find unbelievable for him since La Patrona. Arep Bethke is alright, he does wide-eyed earnestly in love well, but JLP would've been better. He certainly looks younger than Arep without his beard; even though I love the beard he sports here to make him look older. Telemundo, I think, has done JLP a total disservice since La Patrona. He should be getting Gabriel Porras Bajo style galan roles, imho.
Erika de la Rosa is again typecast as a snotty hypocritical woman is a bit much for me so soon after Bajo but she's totally believeable.

I have no sympathy for them and enjoy immensely when they get theirs. Reseat is so smug, can't wait for their downfall. Ay Kerim and his hothead sure landed him in deep trouble but brought forth a wellspring of loving feelings from Fatma. She is getting there, loved the way she loving put his clothes next to hers in the armoire - this man is mine! Can Musta slime any lower? This guy does have huspta. Bring it on 2nd season.
