¿Que Culpa Tiene Fatmagul? Cap 23 Monday 1/4/2016

PART I

Ebe Nine goes to Yasaran Holdings and confronts Resat about the deal los Yasaran made to hide Fatmagul's rape. Munir and Selim are having kittens about Ebe Nine's presence since Mustafa is also in the office at the same time. Resat, surprisingly, admits his son, nephew and Vural did rape Fatma while Kerim did not. But, he adds, since he was there and had pointed Fatma out to Vural, Selim and Erdogan, he is just as much to blame. Still, Ebe Nine reams into Resat and the Yasaran for their criminality and warns him if any of them come back to her home to harass Fatma or disturb the family's peace of mind, she will go straight to the police, and there is nothing he can about it. For her, all the guys there that night need to be in jail but since Fatmagul agreed to the marry Kerim and move to Istanbul to not relive the trauma she will respect that, but only if los Yasaran stay away from her home.

Speaking of home, Resat tries to get Ebe Nine to sell her's in Borum to him, and of course, she refuses. "I'm not here to do business and I won't sell out," Ebe tells Resat disparagingly. As she walks out she sees the newly manscaped and metrosexual Mustafa outside Erdogan's office. She pauses and tells los Yasaran that they and Mustafa are made for each other.

Mustafa, on the other hand came to negotiate. He asks Resat for more privileges: clothes, cars, money and a lifestyle like los Yasaran and is refused. Resat reminds him of the deal they made. They paid him off to get gone or go to jail; and since they still have the gun he used to shoot Selim, Resat reminds Mustafa he shouldn't be making unreasonable demands. "That's before I knew how much my honor cost," Mustafa shoots back. (The entitlement on this one!) They give him a new job in the logistics department, where he gets his old boss's position.

Mustafa leaves Yasaran Holdings and meets up with Ebe Nine who also reams into him for his cowardliness and tells him to stop harassing Fatmagul. He messed up by not believing Fatma and Fatma has decided to move on, however reluctantly, with Kerim. Mustafa tries to justify himself saying he too suffered and made sacrifices after the rape to which Ebe Nine rejoins he was well recompensed by los Yasaran for his trouble. Mustafa deflects by saying Fatma still loves him and asks Ebe Nine if Kerim and Fatma are sleeping together. Ebe Nine deflects, saying Kerim promised to care for Fatma and Fatma wants to move on, so Mustafa needs to stay gone. Los Yasaran look on from inside their offices, scared as hens that Mustafa and Ebe Nine are speaking.

General

Más Qué Telnovelas did a survey recently to find out which upcoming telenovelas are most eagerly awaited. Since MQT focuses mostly on Univisión, I was interested to see that two of the top eight were upcoming novelas on Telemundo. "La Querida del Centauro" was #3, and "Eva, La Trailera" was #7.

FATMAGUL Cap 23 1/4/2016

PART II

Through a bunch of verbal chicanery, the mothers of the three rapists manage to only partially convince Meltem to believe Selim is innocent and tried to kill himself because of the accusations. She tells Leman, Vural's mother, at one point, "Maybe she (Fatmagul) exaggerated a bit, but I think she's partially right." When she hugs Selim later on as a gesture of her goodwill, Meltem's face shows she's still plenty convinced Selim did indeed rape Fatmagul.

Mukkaddes tries to make a love connection between Kerim and Fatmagul. She fusses at Fatma while Fatma is cleaning the floors for not saying goodbye to Kerim before he leaves to go for work. Fatma goes outside while he's leaving and shakes out a throw rug as Kerim looks back at her longingly. Minutes later, Mukkaddes shows Fatmagul a bit of flower needlework Fatma had made and thrown out had been recovered and kept by Kerim under his pillow as a keepsake. "He's in love with his wife," Mukkades says. Fatma says she isn't Kerim's wife but Mukkaddes tells her to let Kerim love her especially since he doesn't want anything in return.

In the meanwhile, Kerim goes to the local mall to get a welding job from a connection of his master trainer. He also stops by a jeweler, and lovingly picks out wedding rings for he and Fatmagul.

Kerim comes home and is told Ebe Nine met with los Yasaran. He, of course, freaks out that she met with them alone. After fussing about this a bit, Mukkaddes notices Kerim wearing his recently purchased wedding ring and reaches out to touch it. Fatma is out of sight here and her eyes go wide with surprise at hearing Kerim bought her a wedding ring. Kerim jumps back from Mukkaddes' touch and explains that he brought the rings so people will truly believe he and Fatma are married. Fatma comes into the kitchen and looks disinterested and angry at the ring, which Kerim leaves on the table, after explaining again that without rings people will say they're supposedly married but have no tie. He tells Fatma to wear it but she refuses. "Is this supposed to erase all that happened? Is this supposed to make me feel better?" she shouts. Fatma wants the ring thrown out but Mukkaddes saves the ring and puts in Fatma's pocketbook. Kerim walks out, looking disappointed that something he meant to be romantic turned out so wrong.

FATMAGUL MON 1/4/16

PART III

Fatmagul goes to look for a job at a local restaurant with Rahmi. She's taking a bit too long to come home for Kerim's taste, but Ebe Nine tells him to calm down and let Fatma be more independent. She has to do things for herself so her self-esteem will grow.

Later on, as Fatma hangs out clothes on the clothesline, Kerim comes by to apologize for disrespecting her with the ring. Fatma blows him off and Kerim asks her why she's being so tough as he knows she's trying to move on from Mustafa since she threw out his handkerchief that he left outside their home before he showed up. Fatma gives Kerim a rude awakening as she tells him yes, the scarf reminded her of Mustafa, but also the night she got raped since her rapists used the scarf to stifle her screams. She is trying to forget that night for herself. She walks off and Kerim looks as if he was kicked repeatedly in the gut.

The next morning as Fatma and Kerim get ready to head to work, Fatma goes to the bathroom and sees Kerim's ring on the basin and sees her name engraved in it. Her eyes go wide with surprise and she drops the ring, too. She picks it up, puts it back in place and hurries out the bathroom. Kerim goes back to the bathroom to get his ring and suspects Fatma had seen the engraving in his ring.

As she walks to her first day of work, Fatmagul takes her ring out of her pocketbook and puts it on.

END OF CAPITULO

FATMAGUL:

Yay! J- This was a beautiful recap. I'm so glad you've decided to join me in recapping this wonderful show. I so look forward to reading your recaps.

Loved Ebe Nine laying into Resat and Mustafa. Resat thinks anyone can be bought and manipulated. By the way, he offered to buy her land (the house is already sold) and she refused. He wants that land for his new development and they've wrangled about this before.

And Me, Me, Me Mustafa just makes me want to kick him. I could not believe he had the gall to talk about how HE has suffered, and then to ask if Kerim and Fatma are sleeping together and if she still loves him. I so wanted to smack him.

Go, Meltem! Don't let them hoodwink you. Now they're trying to convince her that Mustafa wouldn't be working for them if they had raped his fiance. Well, yeah. If he had any dignity. But he doesn't.

As always, two steps forward with Fatmagul and Kerim, and one step back. A slow dance. The rings were a lovely gesture, and I'm glad she eventually put hers on. But she hit him with some harsh reality about ALL that that bandanna meant-- not just Mustafa, but also the rape of which HE was involved.

BAJO EL MISMO CIELO – LUNES – Parte 1 de 3

Felicia asks Cristóbal if he’s prepared to arrest his only sister without any reason. He says he’s not going to arrest her. He tells her that Carlos pressed charges, and that is how he got the call that she was trying to sell her car. He insists that, if she doesn’t come home, another cop WILL arrest her. He tries to convince her that she can’t be accused of kidnapping because Anita is registered legally as her child. He thinks she can make the case that she can offer the child more security than Gracie and Rodrigo because of his gang connections.

There’s a very cute scene with Jacob and María at the restaurant. They have some hot kisses, and he asks her if they’re going to stay there keeping on kissing like a pair of teenagers. Jacob says they’re adults who’ve been wanting each other for months, and she finally agrees.

At María’s house her son Pedro discovers a sexy message from Estela on his father’s phone.

Luis proposes to Susy at the beach. He also tells her that both their fathers have agreed to their getting married. She says yes!

Felicia agrees to do what Cris wants, for her to return home. But he takes her car keys, telling her they’ll go get the baby together.

Carlos has heard what Gracie says about Felicia having killed her husband. He just can’t believe it. Rod interjects: “Didn’t Felicia try to kill Adela already, and who’d she send? Willy!” Gracie tells him that she overheard Felicia and Willy arguing before he died. She heard that they had been lovers and that Felicia was never sure who was the father of Anita.

María and Jacob have gone to a hotel. María is embarrassed, so Jacob tells her to wait while he checks in. Just then Felicia and Cristóbal arrive (to pick up Anita who was left with the hotel’s babysitter). Jacob says he’s there for a conference. But María runs off.

Rodrigo tells his father he’s sure that Willy offered to help him take down Colmillo because of his feelings for Felicia. He says that Willy already had tried to poison EC.

Felicia takes advantage of Cris speaking with Jacob. She says she’s going upstairs to do what they’d agreed. But, of course, she’s gone when he goes up to the room.

Erick and Adela are getting ready for their trip. They have a nice moment together while he talks about how he and Jacob started the magazine. He puts on a red clown’s nose. There’s a knock at the door. It’s Erick’s parents. The father is as sarcastic as ever. But his mother is nice and wishes them well in Chicago.

We see a series of memories. Felicia remembers the doctor telling her that she lost her first baby from a beating by her husband. She remembers telling EC that she’d be his woman if he spared Carlos. Colmillo remembers his daughter telling him she wanted to be like him.

BAJO EL MISMO CIELO – LUNES – Parte 2 de 3

Jacob is asking María what happened (why she left the hotel) when Luis and Susy arrive at the restaurant and say that Susy accepted his proposal.

Gracie tells Rodrigo that Sharon asked a favor in return for telling what she knew about Felicia and Willy. She tells him that Sharon asked him to pay for Nick to go to college.

Jay is telling a couple of the gang guys that they need to make EC happy by catching Adela. Someone calls him, and he appears surprised.

The babysitter has taken Pedro and Lupita to the engagement dinner. But before they leave, Rodolfo tells his son his philosophy of manhood. “A man is a man. His wife is a cathedral, beautiful, pure, saintly. But the amiguitas are like a little chapel. One enters, lights a candle, sits and prays for a while.” [It turns out that amiguita can mean “friend with benefits”.] Rodolfo goes on to tell his son to tell María that he felt really bad and can’t come to the dinner. He advises him to find a girlfriend as pretty (rubs his fingers and thumb together to show he means rich) as Susy. He calls Estela right away.

At the restaurant the family gathers. Carlos doesn’t want to spoil the party and doesn’t mention what happened with Felicia. Nick brings Sharon and Susy doesn’t look pleased. Sharon makes a speech. She says she realizes most of them feel she deserves to be in a wheelchair. She says she’s no longer in love with Luis. She just wants to have him as a friend. Susy graciously agrees.

Adela and Erick hear another knock at the door. This time it’s Paulina.

María and Carlos seem so much like siblings to me, hair color and way of seeing life. Carlos tells her he hasn’t found Anita yet. He also says Cuando el pobre lava luego le llueve. (When a poor person hangs out his laundry, it rains.) He tells her also that he’s said goodbye to Adela. She’s going to live in another state with Erick.

Paulina has come to tell Adela that she had sex with Erick the day after his wedding with Adela. Then she erupts. “Can’t you see that she isn’t jealous? It doesn’t even matter to her.” Adela tells her that she and Erick have talked about this, that someday this would happen. After she leaves, Adela tells Erick that he doesn’t owe her an explanation. But he explains that he did it because he was angry. He was angry because she left him the night of their honeymoon to be with ese jardinero. [It drives me nuts when he calls him that, trying to describe Carlos as somehow lesser than he is.]

BAJO EL MISMO CIELO – LUNES – Parte 3 de 3

Adela tells Erick that he must know that the honeymoon was only a night in a hotel to convince everyone they’d married for love. She says that he should be clear that she had no plans to be with him as a woman. And she surely wouldn’t deny him an experience with another woman who does love him.. Erick: “I don’t love her. I love you.” Adela tells him that this is another example of what will happen if they don’t get this straight. He’ll keep trying to get closer and she’ll keep denying him. He tells her not to talk to him like one of her friends. She insists that that is what she is.

Rodolfo and Estela have sex in Maria’s bed, and he has her take away the sheets!

Rodrigo shows up at Cristóbal’s, accusing him of protecting la perra de tu carnala que es igual o más de delincuente que yo. He demands to know where she is. When Rod vaguely threatens Felicia Cris grabs him by the lapels, but Rod pulls a gun on him. He agrees to leave, but tells Cris to find Felicia before he does, or worse yet, before Colmillo does.

There’s a sweet scene at the restaurant where Carlos tells Susy and Luis that Luis is the best part of him. He also tells Susy he now has a daughter. She hastens to mention Anita, but Carlos manages to make this smooth over.

When Estela is on her way out, she wonders if María is still on the no-sex diet. Rodolfo is indignant. “Are you insinuating that my wife would cuckold me?" ¡A Rodolfo Solís nadie lo pone los cuernos, fíjate! [If he only knew how close he came to wearing those horns!]

Jacob overheard Santiago and Carlos speaking of Felicia. Carlos tells him it’s a long story, but the short of it is that Felicia disappeared with his daughter. Jacob says that he saw her in a hotel with Cristóbal.

At Colmillo’s house Jay tells him that someone wants to see him. It’s Felicia. She tells him they have a lot to talk about.

Thanks for the great recap Novelera. Superb, as usual. If Rod is calling someone, Felicia, more criminal minded than he is, that's saying something. I have always disliked that cathedral metaphor in Mexican tns...it's misogynist and condescending to the core and everyone I've heard say it in a tn ends up being terminally evil. I first heard it in "Guadalupe," the novela Adela Noriega started in when she was with Telemundo, where a woman basically said she didn't mind her hubby cheating in her because she's the cathedral. I also heard it from Gabriel Porras' character in "Los Miserables."

FATMAGUL

Vivi, thanks for the encouragement. This is the first tn in a long while that naturally inspires my writing chops. I really hope more people watch it because the material is heavy but done in a very compelling way.

GENERAL
Juanita - I voted on that poll last week :-) I voted for Eva, but it was a hard decision because I'm really interested in La Querida del Centauro as well.

Bajo: okay, how stupid is Felicia?! Since she took Anita to Colmilllo she deserves whatever happens to her. Hope rod & gracie are able to save anita. N.Lopez

Bajo

Wonderful recap as always, Novelera. Many thanks! I am most grateful for the Spanish, both the excerpts you translated and those you simply quoted. Both approaches helped me, esp. your translation of "Cuando el pobre lava luego le llueve. (When a poor person hangs out his laundry, it rains.)"

I wonder whether it's going to be one of Maria and Rudolfo's children who finally does him in. Pedro has already asked his father whether "Estela" in his phone is the same person whose phone number (I think) was on Rudolfo's handkerchief.

The writers used the same momentary misleading in the proposal scene that they did when Luis asked Susy to live with him. She says No No, and Luis is devastated, until she makes it clear that the No No was to his saying "If you need more time...." Susy realizes that he has misunderstood, and she then emphatically says Yes.

One question: I assume that Yei led Felicia to Colmillo's location, but how did she know Yei's phone number?

Bajo. Another excellent, thorough and very perceptive recap, novelera! And I see that Caray Caray has acknowledged your talents and your dedication by putting your picture on their main page. Congratulations! Very well deserved! Estela and Rudolfo are playing with fire. Obviously the writers are teasing us, making us wonder if and when María or one of the children will walk in on them! (and if Patricio walks in on them, Rudolfo is dead--as he well knows and has mentioned). Rudolfo's philosophy of men and women is very 19th-century Hispanic. I recall reading a late-19th-century Chilean short story, I think, about a man who completely ruined his life with that philosophy. Felicia is also playing with fire with El Colmillo, but since she's Felicia and about as astute as EC, she'll probably survive--at least for the time being.

Bajo

Thanks for the kind words! Recapping this novela is never a pain because of how well written it is and how good all the actors are. Plus the less-than-good guys are nuanced characters. We've seen a few good things from Felicia. And last night Erick told Adela about how he and Jacob struggled to get the magazine going and how he had used the clown nose while he visited terminally ill children.

And Rodolfo never disappoints. His comical machismo is SO well done by the actor, and he always comes up with a jewel of a sexist remark that shows me the writers do NOT approve of this kind of a man.

Juanita, I also noticed that confusion when Susy said No, meaning she didn't need more time to decide and Luis' face falling. Then she hastened to give him an unequivocal Yes!

Fatmagul: Great recap. Kerim decides to buy a wedding ring for himself and for FG after he sees her letting go of Musti’s scarf in the water… throwing the scarf, letting it go was for him the little hope he desperately prayed for… it meant for him much more than the throwing of the wedding chest… for a lot of reasons… FG throwing the chest could be related to her anger at that moment discovering the truth about Asu and Musti’s relation… it could be a sign of desperate jealousy related to the anger. But, the scarf was her gift to Musti, he knew that by Mukko and Rahmi… it was left by Musti to FG as a sign… letting go of it while she was not angry, (and after telling him not to include her in his plans for future and that they wont be in each others life), opened the door of hope to him… Throwing the scarf was like throwing Musti’s page…We know that after that, when he will confront her with it, she will deny it and she will tell him that it didn’t remind her of Musti anymore but of the night of the rape… But I truly believe it reminded her of both: Musti and the rape… and if the rape was the incident which destroyed her body and soul, Musti’s attitude was the incident which destroyed her heart and soul and shake her confidence in all mankind. It took courage for Kerim to buy those rings it say I will stand by you no matter what Fatma was conflicted but she likes it deep inside that is why she checked to see if her name was inscribed in Kerim's ring.

La querida del Centauro
Not sure if anyone plans to watch this, but I just got a notification from my Telemundo app that the first episode is available for preview.

BAJO
¡Gracias novelera! I love your recaps. I so agree that the lesser characters are written with as much depth as the protagonists. And the acting is right up there, too. Sorry to see this end, but there's been so little fluff and filler, I wouldn't want them to drag it out a minute longer than it has to be. Thanks for retelling the Adela/Erick/Paulina scene so carefully. There's a lot going on there that seems tedious, but Adela is making a stronger case for herself, and Erick is showing a human side even as he oversteps the boundaries of their agreement. Paulina's lines were the least convincing, but I think they are pivotal.

Felicia is the weirdest villana I have ever seen and the actress is doing a tremendous job. A part of me feels sympathy and justification, but at bottom, she is as ruthless as they come.

Bajo

I'll try to have a recap of tonight's (Tuesday's) episode posted sometime tomorrow morning.

BAJO
Well, ladies and gentlemen, I won't breathe a word about the avances, except to say that we are now officially in ultimos capitulos. Still no definite dates, but they made the announcement.

Celia

Not only is Bajo in últimos capítulos, but also Celia is in últimas semanas.

Bajo

yes, últimos capítulos, but I'm pretty sure it will go 2 weeks, 2 weeks, after Senora.

tonight's show could have been called "couples", each so different.

I love this writer, Perla Farias, she is so good and at creating unique characters, and goes the extra mile to connect the dots and tie it all together, and the story is not about this guy or that one, it's about them all.

oh and thanks novelera for last night's recap, superb!

BAJO EL MISMO CIELO - MARTES - Parte 1 de 3

Let me start by saying that, as usual, I've put scenes together even if they are separated in the novela. I think it makes the story easier to follow. So the recap is true to the events (I hope) but not always to the chronology.

Tonight's episode begins where Monday's left off, with Felicia having come with her baby to Colmillo's. Colmillo is very surprised and also rather suspicious. Why has she come? At one point, he holds what looks like a knife near her throat. She admits that she betrayed him, but she adds that whereas Carlos betrayed her and Rodrigo betrayed Colmillo, she promises that if Colmillo helps her, she will be loyal to him. He's not convinced. He tells her that he doesn't need her, but she disagrees. She tells him that Anita is the child he wants so badly; she is offering him his last opportunity to be a father. He tells her to give him the baby [to hold, though at first that's not completely clear].

Felicia goes on to explain that Carlos doesn't deserve her. He has made a denunciation against her for leaving town with Anita without his permission. Colmillo knows that Rodrigo and his allies are looking all over for her. Colmillo says that he never would have imagined that Rodrigo would be so interested in his sister. Felicia informs him that Rodrigo isn't looking for Anita to help Carlos, he's looking for her because she's his daughter. I couldn't believe she'd tell him this! I almost yelled at the television. Nothing, I thought, could endanger Anita more than Colmillo's knowing that she's Rodrigo's daughter. It turns out that I was probably wrong, but the scene shifted to the party for Luis and Susy, so I had to bite my fingernails and wait.

At the party, Susy is happy that everyone who they care about has come. Luis says "Not everyone. Adela isn't here." Susy suggests that they send Adela a photo of the group taken earlier at the party, with the message, "Although you're not in this photo, you're in our hearts always." They do so. Also at the party, Carlos learns from Jacob that he saw Cristóbal and Felicia at a hotel. He didn't get to speak to Felicia, and Cristóbal seemed rather nervous. Carlos is furious, since Cristóbal said nothing to him about this. He suspects that Cristóbal is protecting his sister, and he leaves the party to go find Cristóbal. After Carlos has left, Santiago gets a phone call. We don't know who it's from, but he says "I'll come right away" and he, too, leaves the party.

Adela receives the photo and message from Susy and Luis as she's lying in bed. She enlarges the photo on her phone to focus more on Carlos. "How I miss you," she says sadly.

Carlos arrives at Cristóbal's in a fury. "Why didn't you call me when you found her?" he demands of Cristóbal. Cristóbal tries to explain what happened, but the enraged Carlos won't listen. He tells Cristóbal that he has committed a crime, that he should have arrested Felicia, and that he's blinded by his feelings for his sister. Cristóbal replies that he wanted to give Felicia a chance to do the right thing, and that Carlos of all people should understand the power that blood has. "How many times have you believed in Rodrigo because he's your son?"

BAJO EL MISMO CIELO - MARTES - Parte 2 de 3

The scene shifts to Santiago at Juana's. She tells him the news about her getting a visa and being able to stay legally in the United States. He's very happy for her. It looks as if they're back together, when suddenly she says something about how much she appreciates him. "Appreciate?" he asks. "You no longer love me?" Juana says something about their having to trust each other and have confidence in each other, and then she confides in him that she doesn't know how to read or write. Santiago realizes that that's why she never responded to his text messages. Eventually, she admits that yes, she does love him, but they are going to have to start over again at zero. He tells her he's willing to start at any number she'd like. Given the fact that we're now in últimos capítulos, I suspect/hope that no more obstacles will get in their way.

Meanwhile, Felicia pleads with Colmillo. "I know you want revenge on Rodrigo. Help me keep the baby away from him." "What do I have to do to convince you not to harm the baby?" she asks. "I don't believe in promises," he replies, "I believe in actions." "What do you want me to do?" she asks. His response: "Strip...slowly." He pushes her down on a pool table and tells her that he's her macho cabrío (he-goat), her Mexican stallion [he says "Mexican stallion" in English]. The actress playing Felicia does a rather good job of giving in to him while making it clear to Viewerville that she finds all this rather unpleasant. It reminded me of the scene when she slept with Willy. Unlike Willy, however, Colmillo purports not to care.

This episode focuses a lot on couples. We now move for the moment from Felicia and Colmillo to Greicy and Rodrigo. Rodrigo has been drinking. Greicy asks him not to drink so much, but Rodrigo tells her he needs to relax. Greicy tells him "I too need to relax," and she joins him in drink. Drinking clearly does relax her and her inhibitions. She tells him that she has no interest in being the stupid, innocent person she was before. "No wonder you didn't love me," she says. "However," she continues, "no one will love you the way I did." She goes after him. "You're playing with fire," El Faier warns her. "Quémame (Burn me, set me on fire)," she replies. "You'll be sorry in the morning," he warns. "No," she says, "We're adults, we know what we're doing." Viewerville is then treated to the sight of a shirtless Rodrigo [yum], and the curtain descends.

The scene shifts to another couple, Adela and Erick. Erick sees that Adela has been crying. She shows him the photo and message that Susy and Luis sent her. She tells him she lost her brother and her mother, and the people in the photo are now her family, and by moving away she's about to lose them, too. Erick tells her to look in front of her (at him): here's your family. "Your family will be the one that you and I make together," he says. He moves toward her and kisses her, then apologizes.

We move from Adela and Erick to Carlos, sitting at home alone on his couch, thinking "If only you were with me, Adela." Luis comes in, and doesn't accept Carlos' excuse that he's worried about work. Carlos finally tells him that the DNA testing revealed that Anita is the child of Greicy and Rodrigo. Luis tells him that he'll continue to care for Anita, she's his blood relation. Carlos tells Luis that the one thing he fears is that Anita may grow up to be a pandillera, a gang member. Luis assures him that he'll make sure that doesn't happen.

BAJO EL MISMO CIELO - MARTES - Parte 3 de 3

Meanwhile, Erick and Adela prepare to move to Chicago, and he tells her "Tonight begins our new life." He gives her their tickets to Chicago and leaves the apartment to take care of some matters at the bank and at Jacob's magazine.

Colmillo tells Felicia that she has fulfilled her obligation as a woman, and now she should fulfill her obligation as a mother. She should go to her room, and he will sleep in another room. Felicia is still uneasy. "Does this mean you will let us stay here and protect us, or are you going to kill us in the early morning?" He assures her that he made a promise and he keeps his promises. And indeed, in the next scene with them, we see that two cribs have been delivered. Colmillo orders his men to put one in his room and the other in the room in front, which will be the baby's room. He takes the baby from Felicia and coos over her like a doting father and comments on how beautiful she is. He tells Felicia that she was right to come to him, and that having Anita will be the best revenge against Rodrigo, better than killing the baby. Moreover, "Nothing will happen to the baby. She will be my heir, and I have great plans for her."

We then have a short comic scene with Rudolfo hiding whatever he was reading as Maria enters to serve him breakfast in bed. She expresses puzzlement over the fact that the bedsheets were changed, even though she had just put clean sheets on the bed. Rudolfo stares at her wide-eyed, with a deer-in-the-headlights look.

Back at Colmillo's, Felicia is upset that he has guns in the house. She doesn't like firearms near the baby. He tells her of some advice that his grandfather once gave him: la vieja y la pistola, mientras más cerca, mejor (It's best to keep women and pistols close by.) Felicia asks him whether he is going to kill Rodrigo. No, he says, I'm going to do something you'll like: I'm going to kill Adela Morales.

The final scene of the episode takes place in Erick's apartment. Adela is alone. She hears a knock at the door. To her astonishment, it's Rodrigo. "How did you get in?" she asks. He replies that he has his ways, and that "if I could do it, Colmillo could, too. That's why I came." Rodrigo then spots the suitcase, and then the plane tickets to Chicago. "You were going to leave without telling me?" he asks indignantly. He continues: "That imbecile is not going to take you away from me. No way that you're going." End of episode.

Bajo. Excellent recap, Juanita! I must say, Felicia's underwear combo is very sexy, but I don't think it would give much support to a nursing mom! Just saying. And I loved Felicia's facial expressions when she was "accepting" El Colmillo's advances, also her smirk when EC said he was going to kill Adela. Great acting by Erika de la Rosa. Another nice touch was when she started calling EC José, his given name. After all, they've had sex, they're raising a baby together, and they're a couple now. And, wow! what a risk taker she is--something EC admires, though he also understands how much like him she is. As a crowning touch to their scene together it turns out EC loves babies, and he's a great daddy. Who would have suspected? I also loved the way Isabel understood what Felicia is up to and Greicy understood what made Rodrigo fall in love with Adela and not her.

Bajo

Great comments, SpanProf!

Bajo. Great acting by Santiago too when Juana tells him that yes, she does love him, and he practically does a little victory dance. He and Juana are cute together. Gee, is Rudolfo going to be betrayed by his changed sheets and not by María walking in on him? If so, it's a little bit of a letdown, as the writers have teased us that there's going to be a dramatic confrontation.

Bajo. Thanks, Juanita! :)

Bajo
Super Juanita, gracias

Rudolfo & the sheets is too funny, he is not the domestic type so Maria is suspicious. Plus the sheets have disappeared.

Bajo

Thanks so much, Juanita. What a terrific recap! I also just about fell on the floor when Felicia told EC whose baby she had. But we should have trusted Feli's smarts. She always wiggles out of every tight spot.

The way EC raved over his supposed sexual prowess, I half expected them to go with Felicia enjoying it. Maybe they'll still go that way. He makes ME cringe. Did anyone else notice something odd about his teeth? The night before when he was putting his moves on her, he looked like he had metal in his teeth. He also took something (Viagra?) before they did the deed. Then the next morning he seemed to have the same white-toothed, gummy smile.

So I'm wondering how Rodrigo plans to stop Adela from leaving town. I didn't think they'd go, unless there's a time jump. But I didn't see him being the reason why.

I was egging Carlos on from my Living Room. Cristóbal does deserve condemnation for taking the call to go after his own sister, surely a major breach of ethics however it turned out. I suppose they're not going with Carlos going to the police about it, but in real life he should.

Bajo

Novelera, I'm so glad you mentioned the strange way Colmillo's teeth looked. I too noticed it, but it made no sense, and so I assumed the problem was with the very old and rather small TV on which I was watching the novela. ???

Bajo: I am such a chicken that I recorded the episode instead of watching because I was so afraid of what EC could do. Anyway, Feli will not survive(guessing) this show there is no redemption for her. Erika is absolutely fabulous in the role. Bravo. I enjoyed the recap so much now what? What will Rodrigo do to stop Adela?
Romy

Bajo

Romy, one thing you can just about guarantee in a telenovela: If a baby is born alive that baby is definitely not going to be killed by anyone. There's plenty of miscarriages and stillborns (there was one in this very show). But if you see a cute, cooing baby, nothing in the world will harm it!

BAJO: Ok, i am officially team greicy. I hope she and Anita survive, and return to Mexico with Abuela. Rodrigo needs to leave Adela alone. She will nunca love him!hes so estupido about women.I hope rod survives, but i doubt it. I want Mr.jacob and Maria to be happy together, and last but not least, i want Fe, Colmillo, &Jay to get the big payback. I have really enjoyed this TN. Great actors all around! Wish i had seen it from the beginning!N.Lopez

Bajo...Fang sometimes wheres a gold plate over his teeth. Last night was not the 1st epidode he's worn this.

Nett

Bajo. A retainer so that his teeth won't drift back into their pre-orthodontia position? :)

Bajo

pre-orthodontia position...as in fangs?

terrific recap Juanita !!!

Bajo

Nett, thanks so much for the gold thing over his teeth comment. I guess I hadn't noticed it until last night. I paused the screen and backed up a couple of times trying to figure out what was wrong with his teeth! Am I too obsessed with this novela?

Bajo. Deb: tee hee!

Bajo

I think I noticed Colmillo's odd teeth right before he started pawing and kissing Felicia. She told him to stop, he was hurting her. I wondered whether he had some special nasty denture that he uses when he wants to hurt women. And I especially wondered when he responded to her request to stop by saying "You won't enjoy it unless it hurts." Nice guy.

BAJO

Beautiful, thank you Juanita. That whole scene with EC & Feli was so "Ew-www" But what great gestures and facial expressions. She's really rocking this role. I suppose he is too, but it's such a revolting character, I can admire his acting chops, but not enjoy the performance.

And that whole "playing with Faier" thing was a bit much for me because I'm not partial to either one of those characters. But thanks for elaborating on the play on words. I'm with N.Lopez: he is just the worst pest to Adela, who has made it abundantly clear where she stands, to all and sundry...and that is with Carlos.

novelera, I'm sure you are right about the bebe's guarantee of survival. It's TN law. I also never thought they would actually move Erick & Adela to Chicago. Too much loss of continuity at this late date. And if they toss in a meses despues you'll hear me yelling "Aaargh" all the way from NYC! This script has been so tight, and moved so surely, that it would be a signal failure if the plot got bogged down at this point.

Bajo

In retrospect, I'm wondering why Erick and Adela didn't abandon their plans to fly to Chicago and instead go by train or bus to another city and then fly from there. And since they were very worried about security, I'm a little surprised that Erick (R.I.P.) didn't consider getting bulletproof vests for Adela and himself.

The novela's fast pace has speeded up even more. It's a bit hard to believe that there are still several more weeks to go.

BAJO – MIÉRCOLES – Parte 1 de 2

Rodrigo tells Adela he won’t let her leave. When she says it’s to protect the ones she loves, he says he’ll protect her. He goes on to say that Erick is taking advantage of her, first getting her to marry him because she’s undocumented and then taking advantage of her by getting her away from everyone. She tells him in her usual strong style that with Erick or without Erick, married, single, here or wherever else in the world, she’s never going to love him.

We see Evil Felicia again as she gets avid hearing about Colmillo’s plans to kill Adela.

Carlos tells Luis he needs to go take care of getting his high school diploma instead of searching for Anita. Sounds like he has the credits.

Rodolfo spins a tale for María about having had an accident in the bed and that’s why he put on clean sheets. Later she really gets on his case about finding work.

EC tells Feli that he has an informant that has told him Adela doesn’t have many guards today. This informant turns out to be one of the cops we’ve seen working in Cris’ office, the one who was putting moves on Chabela a few times.

Cristóbal tells the whole cop shop that they all need to be on the lookout for his sister.

Trenzas comes to Sharon bringing $10,000 from Rodrigo for Nick’s education. But Luis gets on his high horse and sends him back with the money. He thinks this would trap Nick into owing the gang.

Paulina is moping around in the office when Rodrigo and some homies arrive looking for Erick. Rodrigo is absolutely raving. He realizes who Jacob is, Luis’ future father-in-law, and tells the guys not to harm him. He also tells Jacob that his brother is different from him, responsible, hardworking. He promises to never be around Susy. He’s finally convinced that Erick is gone and won’t be back. After they leave Jacob calls the only cop in LA, Cristóbal, to tell what Rod did.

Erick comes home. Adela hasn’t been able to reach him and embraces him with relief. He tells her he has a plan so Rod can’t stop them leaving.

Luis and Nick have a long discussion about Nick’s options for going to college. I’m pressed for time and won’t go into it.

Erick tells Adela that while Rod looks for them at the regular airport, they’ll be at the hanger of a private air transport companhy.

EC is a bit less warm toward the baby, looking at her speculatively. Feli is worried and tells him he’ll come to love her in time.

Erick is giving orders to the cops. He wants them to arrest Rodrigo, and then he tells Adela she can’t call Carlos to let him know

Rod is giving orders to his guys at his house. He tells them not to shoot Erick. If he gives them a problem, knock him out. Gracie has overheard and is furious he’s spending time looking for Adela instead of his daughter.

BAJO – MIÉRCOLES – Parte 2 de 2

Santiago gets off the only funny moment in the episode. Carlos does a good bit of gardening and Santi: "Como dijo mí mamá, si él que sabe, sabe, si no, es jefe”. Carlos gets a call from Jacob about Rod coming to the magazine. He doesn’t want to tell Carlos about the airport, but Carlos wisely says that Rod being arrested won’t prevent his other guys from doing something. Carlos wants to prevent a tragedy.

Suárez, EC’s rat, offers to guard Erick and Adela (henhouse, meet fox), but Cris has other plans for his guys. But Suárez apparently does tell EC about the change from public to private flight.

Gracie rags on Rodrigo about Adela. He tells her he knew he shouldn’t have gotten mixed up with her again. He made it clear that this didn’t change things between them. After he leaves Lourdes slaps Gracie and threatens to go back to México.

Things get very interesting at the airport.. Rodrigo tells his guys that the cops probably know they’re coming and to be very alert. Trenzas says they can’t afford for him to be arrested; he’s their leader and they all depend on him.

Adela and Erick arrive at the private hangar. The guy at the desk reviews their paperwork and says that Adela doesn’t have legal residency and can’t fly. But he does agree to go check with someone. Adela and Erick try to convince him they have to leave; it’s a matter of life and death.

Colmillo and three guys, one of them Jay, arrive at the private hangar. He tells them to catch Adela alive because he’s going to kill her himself.

Erick goes out to talk with the pilot, leaving Adela inside. She tries to convince him to stay there with the police officer.

EC sees Erick dragging luggage toward the plane. We see him raise his rifle, look through the scope, and point at Erick’s chest.

Adela begs the officer guarding them to go look for Erick.

Cristóbal spots three gangbangers walking through the airport and he and his guys go after them.

Adela has gotten the paperwork in order to fly. She goes out toward the plane. She sees two bangers heading toward her and asks if they’re with Rodrigo, or what. She then sees Salgado, apparently dead in a pool of blood. One of the bangers puts his gun to her head.

Cristóbal tells the gang guys to put their hands behind their heads. “You too, Rodrigo.” [I’d bet money the one with Rod’s shirt and baseball cap is not him.]

EC shoots the pilot and approaches Erick saying, “Say hello to my little friend”, a la Scarface. Then he changes his mind. He says this, indicating the rifle, is for Adela Morales. He puts Erick inside the plane.

Carlos comes out of nowhere and launches himself at EC’s guy, the one not holding the gun on Adela.

EC taunts Erick inside the plane. Erick offers him anything if he’ll leave Adela alone. But he shoots Erick three times in the chest!

BAJO

This will be my last Wednesday recap. My Spanish class was on hiatus the whole month of December and starts back next Wednesday.

I could do either Thursday or Friday. Let me know what works for others.

Bajo

Great recap, Novelera. As always, I appreciate your including some Spanish--this one went right by me when I heard it. And I always enjoy your asides, including "(henhouse, meet fox)."

I kept wondering whether the guy behind the desk who told Adela she couldn't fly was working for Colmillo, just as the cop was.

I was really surprised when Colmillo shot Erick. Things seem to be coming to a head, and I find it a bit hard to imagine that the novela will continue for several more weeks.

Re your recap schedule...I definitely cannot do Wednesday. The only day that works for me right now seems to be Tuesday, though at times I can do another day as well. Friday seems a more likely day for me than Thursday, so if you're trying to choose between them, Thursday would be better. However, I can't guarantee to do two each week, so you should pick whatever works best for you. I'd love to see some other folks jump in. Heck, if I can recap with my rather sorry Spanish, almost anyone can. :-)

Fatmagul

J enjoyed your recap, you're great. Your snarky comments are hilarious!! Don't stop. ViVi, why is Musta allowing Murir/the Yasarans to control him with the gun, they never implicated him to the police at the time of the shooting. Swagger walking Musta has something up his sleeve for the rich boys. Is Vural hasting his demise because of his behavoir. The back story of Mukaddes explains some of her mean behavoir. She is not too smart, busted by Ebbe right away. Hate to see Rhami destroyed, he is such a nice guy. Fatma Is thawing a little with Karim. Thi s is much watch TV, anything can happen. The writers are very good.

Bajo. Excellent recap as usual, novelera! Very astute observation that the guy in Rodrigo's shirt and cap is probably not Rodrigo. If the writers didn't think of it, they should have! I too can't believe that Erick's dead! But with 3 bullets in the chest from a very powerful gun I can't see any other possibility. How will Adela deal with the guilt? I see that they have added a new barrier for Nick. Evidently his father doesn't see the worth of higher education and thinks that Nick should just work at some kind of job. What happened to Nick's determination to get a college education no matter what? $10,000 won't go very far even at UCLA or one of the Cal States. It probably would handle tuition and fees for a couple of years at a community college, though. And even though it's not really Luis's business, he's probably right that the gang would consider Nick beholden to them. One more thing: When EC tells Felicia that he's killing Adela to get back at Rodrigo, she says "Kill her!" and EC realizes that she's really like him.

FATMAGUL:

Brenda- The gun has a history of criminality beyond the shooting of Selim. Since it has Mustafa's prints on it, it can be used to incriminate him in whatever crimes the (Yasaran) henchman who used it before Mustafa took it from him committed. That's what the Yasaran are using to control Mustafa. But really, all they have to do is promise him enough wealth and power to keep him in their pockets.

I haven't seen the last two episodes yet. Hope to get a bit caught up this evening.

Bajo. Otoh, until tonight's episode at least, we can hope that Erick was in fact wearing a bullet-proof vest with little packets of blood (gee, just like an actor in a tn), and that he somehow survived El Colmillo's attack.

Bajo

I'm pretty sure Erick is dead. That last shot of him had the actor doing the eyes open dead stare. Plus, this removes the impediment to Carlos and Adela getting married. Didn't they say once, and I thought it was foreshadowing, that Adela's path to legalization would stay in place even if her spouse died?

Bajo. Yep, I'm afraid you're right, novelera. Still, it's a pity to sacrifice Erick, who wasn't all that simpático but was basically a good person.

Do you think it might be possible to get some technical support from Univisión and Telemundo themselves? After all, Telemundo at least maintains facebook sites for some of its telenovelas and Caray Caray is good marketing for both of these broadcasters among anglo viewers.

Bajo

wonderful recap novelera!

CarayCaray's Telemundo Page is in Danger

Hi, everyone. Some of you may not be aware that Blog Mom Jane has said she plans to cut way back on what telenovelas are covered on CarayCaray, and her present plan does not include keeping the Telemundo novelas! Some of us have already posted messages urging her to keep the Telemundo page, but it might be helpful if more people who value the discussions we have here would add their voices. You can find her posting on the main CarayCaray page. The title of her message is "Blog mom is considering deleting Caray, Caray entirely. Thoughts welcome." It's followed by many responses. So far, her plan includes dropping Telemundo, but perhaps if she heard from more of us who value the recaps and discussions that appear on the Telemundo page, she might reconsider.

Juanita,
If you are unable to convince BlogMom to continue supporting the Telemundo Feed, you are more than welcome over at Telenovela-World.

We have forums for all the Telemundo novelas and, although we do not have a forum for Fatmagül, I would be willing to set one up.

In any case, I hope you find a solution that meets all of your needs.

Diane

The Telemundo page has been saved!

Hola a todos. I'm delighted/thrilled/ecstatic to report that the BlogMom has decided that, thanks to Telemundo's "devoted cartel's vociferous lobbying," the Telemundo page will continue as part of the new, slimmer CarayCaray! In other words, it's thanks to YOU, all of you who wrote on behalf of keeping our page. That's what made the BlogMom change her mind.

Oops, I sent off my message before I had finished. Diane, thanks VERY much for your kind offer to host discussion of all the Telemundo y Más novelas on Telenovela-World. I'm very grateful for the offer, and it's a relief to know that we do have this option if things don't work out here.

Again, many many thanks!!

BAJO

Novelera,

Terrific recaps as always,

I was away from home for 3 days, so I watched two in a row last night;
I have not yet watched the one from last night.

Erick appears dead, but I certainly hope he is not. It is too much of a sacrifice
and one that Adela has been worried about from Day One. I agree that it would be very difficult for her to move on from this tragedy even though she has experienced
other more personal losses.

Fascinating comments from everyone..

All the best,

BAJO

Juanita,

Awesome about saving our page. I will go thank Jane.

Bajo. What a sad episode! Erick's last word is "Adela". EC was dumb to go after Erick first--but of course he did because Adela is the tn heroine, and of course security and then the police show up in time to save Carlos and Adela. Adela's despair is heart rending. Two other things I thought were of note were (1) how Rodrigo basically framed himself for the murder by his appearance with his "homies" at Jacob's magazine, and (2) Felicia's behavior toward El Colmillo because he made Adela suffer and has helped make Rodrigo seem like the murderer of Erick. They really are a couple now, and a seemingly devoted one! Killing that police detective was probably a bad idea if the police ever realize that EC was the perpetrator--as police departments pull out all the stops to catch a cop killer--but for now that applies to Rodrigo. I would say EC's police spy's days are numbers. Also a heart rending scene between Erick's parents and Adela--and Paulina most definitely doesn't help things. Ramona and Juana show what true friends they are to Adela. I also liked how they and Susy are remembering all of Erick's good deeds. And Greicy seems to be becoming a gang powerhouse!

Bajo numbered that is.

BAJO

Rodrigo is devastated on account of Erick's death. He promised Adela that he would not harm him, and he knows how upset Adela will be.

He cannot think straight. Greicy thinks for him and orders gang members to get rid of all the guns in the house. She convinces Rodrigo to leave even though he does not want to hide.

In spite of thinking that Rodrigo may be innocent of Erick's death, Carlos tells the police where to look for his son.

Jacob is 99.5% convinced that Rodrigo is the killer of his best friend Erick.

Adela is inconsolable when Ramona and Juana come to be with her.

Greicy stands up to Cristobal and defends Rodrigo saying that there is no proof of his guilt.

She demands that he find his sister and her baby.

Much excitement still to come.

Rodrigo seems to be gradually realizing what Greicy said in the last espisode, "No woman will ever love you as much as I do!"

Bajo

SpanProf, you caught most of the action in your very astute comment. Yes, Rodrigo is definitely in the soup. I can't imagine how he's ever going to prove he didn't kill Erick. One might say a ballistics test would work, but they don't usually include those in TNs.

Felicia and Fang are definitely a couple. But I don't think she's into him at all. She made sort of a Lady Macbeth short monologue at one time, saying in essence that she was going to use him as her weapon to get vengeance on Adela, Gracie, and someone else that I can't think of right now. I think she's completely faking all that affection in bed.

Paulina just doesn't disappoint, does she? Adela was already riddled with guilt that she demonstrated to Carlos when she cried over Erick's corpse. Paulina had to rant in front of Erick's grieving parents that it was all Adela's fault.

I'm enjoying Gracie's transformation. She admitted that she still loves Rodrigo, but not in a sappy way. She wants to help him extricate himself from the very real possibility of his going to jail for murder. [Of course he has murdered people, just not this particular guy.] And I loved the way she went after Cristóbal, telling him he should have shown the same zeal going after Felicia as he's showing pursuing Rodrigo.

Bajo

Floridia I posted before seeing your excellent comment. Thanks for pointing out Rodrigo's sad face as he realizes Adela will assume he broke his promise not to kill Erick. And, yes, he did look at Gracie in a different way after she said no one would love him as she did.

Bajo. Floridia and novelera: I think that among the 3 of us we hit most of the high points. And thanks for your astute analysis of the El Colmillo-Felicia relationship, novelera! However, no matter what Felicia feels or claims to feel about EC, I can't help but feel that they are perfectly matched! Maybe Lady MacBeth + Attila the Hun or Al Capone?

Bajo

One more thing. Carlos kept reminding everyone that Colmillo was also after Adela and would have killed Erick in a New York minute as well. I think he also got that idea into Adela's head. At first I thought she automatically assumed it was Rodrigo, probably because he'd come there, seen the tickets, and knew they were leaving. She had no way of knowing that Colmillo had an inside tip from the crooked cop to let him know she'd be at the airport.

Bajo

Wow, great comments! I can't think of anything to add to what SpanProf, Floridia, and novelera have said.

However, I did note that unlike Erick (R.I.P.), our Telemundo page was apparently wearing a bulletproof vest when it was shot. :-) To celebrate, I'll do a recap of tonight's episode and have it up sometime tomorrow morning.

Bajo

Juanita, you made me laugh out loud at work with your bulletproof vest for our Telemundo page comment!

I'm looking forward to your recap. I usually don't comment on Saturday until late as I am desperately grateful for the opportunity to sleep in that day!

Yea! we survive!

Gracias Blog Mom

BAJO
Just a couple of minutes before broadcast time, and I've just read through all this Boy oh boy, among the 3 of you (SpanProf, Floridia and novelera, you've covered every base and then some!. I have been all caught up in dealing with the bullet we just dodged, namely the near loss of our blog. Thankfully, Juanita and I have been granted a reprieve; the show goes on and us with it. Hallelujah! Thanks Juanita, for your offer of a recap. I'm still beside myself, By the way, we have to talk about how and what needs to be done. I'll email you.

Bajo

I nominate María Elisa Camargo (Adela) for an academy award, she has become one of the greatest actresses that I have ever had the pleasure of watching.

Paulina must have been the one posting on Caray Caray causing all the problems.

say, Colmillo had his gold teeth in again thursday when he was in bed with Felicia,
this is too weird.

I don't mind never seeing Erick's parents again, I remember his mother as psycho mom on "Santa Diabla" and his dad scares me worse than Colmillo for some reason.

TELEMUNDO...

"La Querida del Centauro"- the first capitulo is posted at the Telemundo site as Sara mentioned, if anyone wants to get a jump on this.

GENERAL...

in case this might be helpful to others,

ok, for 3 months I have not had any captions (except for a couple random days), in looking for options I see where a person can file a formal complaint with the FCC, something I'm hesitant to do since this is a small operation that rebroadcasts Telemundo as well as 4 other stations and they might just drop Telemundo all together, so,

I wrote up my situation and emailed,
captioning@telemundo.com
(this appears in the last caption in each show)

the next day (this morning) I received this reply,

"Thank you so much for writing in and alerting us to the CC situation. I've reached out to your station and they are going to look into it and let me know what they find. I will follow up with you once I have news. Thanks!

Angie Castaño
Closed Captioning Supervisor"

wow, and tonight I had full captions, spanish/english.

(crossing fingers that they last)

Bajo

Deb, your sense of humor gets me every time. Yep, I can certainly see Paulina as a troll on people's favorite blogs!

GENERAL

I'm thrilled you got such a nice response from Telemundo! And my fingers and toes are crossed that your captions stay put.

FATMAGUL:

I'm way behind on watching this week. I'll binge watch sometime today and hope to have a recap up by this evening. Tomorrow morning at the latest.

BAJO EL MISMO CIELO - VIERNES - Parte 1 de 3

Tonight's episode picks up where Thursday's left off. Carlos is pleading with a distraught Adela to open the door. She has reached rock bottom emotionally, and she no longer wants to live. She picks up a knife and says "I shouldn't exist. I can't permit more people to die because of me. I'm going to end it once and for all." She remembers the death of her brother, her mother's telling her to go far away or the mother, too, will be killed, and Erick's dead body being taken away. Carlos forces the door open, and he and Juana rush in. Adela tries to summon up the courage to plunge the knife into herself, but she cannot. Carlos tries to comfort her, but she pulls away from him. "I don't want your compassion," she tells him. "I don't want anyone else to suffer because of me."

The scene shifts to Rodrigo's house. Greicy is on the phone with him, telling him that the police want to arrest him not just for killing Erick but also for killing one of their fellow officers. Rodrigo protests that he had nothing to do with these killings, but Greicy points out that he doesn't have an alibi. She tells him not to return home for a few days, until the guilty person is arrested. Don't be arrested, she tells him. She needs him to continue to look for their daughter.

Greicy's mother is upset that Greicy is aiding Rodrigo. "Why are you doing this?" she asks Greicy. "You could be arrested as an accomplice." Greicy finally admits to her mother that she still loves Rodrigo, and she will understand if her mother decides to return to Mexico and leave her here.

We now move to Maria's house, where Rudolfo is berating her for not fulfilling her responsibilities. The house, he claims, is a pigsty (chiquero). She's not taking adequate care of the children, she's abandoning him. He doesn't know why she wants to be a cook at the restaurant when she could stay home and be the queen of the house. Maria snorts and points out to him that he was the one who wanted her to work with Mr. Jacob at the restaurant and even forged her signature on the contract Jacob had drawn up.

At Jacob's house, Susy is commiserating with her father about the death of Erick, who was not just a valued employee but a close friend. Together they come up with the idea of an issue of the magazine devoted to Erick and his work. Luis arrives, and he offers his condolences to Jacob. Jacob tells him that the police already have a suspect, and it's Rodrigo. At an earlier point in the novela, this would have prompted Jacob to prevent Susy from continuing to see Luis. Now, however, Jacob tells Luis that "what Rodrigo did is not your responsibility, and it doesn't change anything between us, nor your engagement with my daughter."

Rodrigo, meanwhile, has taken Greicy's advice and has not returned home. He and two homies are walking down the street. He leaves them, and moments later a police car drives up and stops the two men. The police are not really interested in them, they want to know where El Faier is. Rodrigo hides behind a bush and pulls out his gun. He manages to avoid being seen and gets away. He is spotted by a person from the neighborhood, someone to whom Rodrigo gave money to help with a family member's operation. The guy and his family feel great gratitude to Rodrigo, and they agree to let him stay at their house. As they head off to the guy's house, Rodrigo gets a phone call from Carlos, but he decides not to answer.

BAJO EL MISMO CIELO - VIERNES - Parte 2 de 3

We see Carlos with Juana. Carlos is beset by guilt for having given the police Rodrigo's address when they asked for it. "I feel like a traitor," he tells Juana. "He's my son, but he has to take responsibility for what he's done" (Es mi hijo, pero tiene que dar la cara). He then asks Juana whether she thinks Rodrigo killed Erick. "Everything points to it," she replies. She also tells Carlos that Adela needs to be alone, she needs her space.

We next see Juana accompanying Adela to Erick's apartment. Adela wants to return the keys and take care of a few other matters. When they enter the apartment, Adela sadly recalls Erick's bidding goodbye to what he was leaving behind, as if he had a feeling that he would never return. Juana tells her, "I think there are angels who come to aid people, and they leave quickly once they have finished their mission. Erick helped me, he helped you, he helped Ramona." Adela remarks, "He would do anything for the people he cared for. It was his life." She takes off her wedding ring, which she may have been planning to leave there. Just as she does this, the door opens and Erick's mother (Evelyn) and La Perra Paulina enter.

Evelyn and La Perra are surprised to find Adela and Juana there. Paulina immediately launches into a verbal attack. "What are you doing here?" she asks Adela. "You are so shameless"(descarada). Do you intend to continue to live in this apartment?" Adela explains that she came to give back the keys, and she also gives Erick's mother back the wedding ring that had been hers. "Today is the burial," Paulina informs her. "And don't you dare come. Have decency for once in your life, Adela. You can't come to the burial that you caused." Adela replies that she doesn't want to cause problems, but she needs to say goodbye to Erick. Juana points out that Adela was Erick's wife, and she has every right to attend the burial. Erick's mother says, in a much softer and kinder tone than Paulina (which wouldn't be hard to do), "I know you have the legal right to be present, but please, I beg of you, do not come."

Evelyn says they came to find a suit for Erick to be buried in. She gets up to go find one but is overcome by sorrow. "I don't know how to do this," she says. "No mother is prepared to bury her son." Adela offers to help. She brings out first the suit Erick wore at their wedding, but, not surprisingly, Evelyn rejects that one. Adela then brings a gray suit that Erick wore to work. Juana and (at Evelyn's request) Paulina leave Adela and Evelyn alone at this intimate moment. Adela becomes more animated, remembering what a wonderful person Erick was. Adela brings over a box of Erick's recuerdos, including the clown nose he wore when he visited a hospital for terminally ill children. Evelyn asks Adela if she would like to keep the clown nose, and Adela says yes. She then says to Evelyn, "Erick was a prince. He was a prince because he was raised by a queen."

Evelyn repeats that she would prefer Adela not come to the burial. Adela agrees, telling her she will find a way to pay homage to Erick. Evelyn replies that the best homage we can pay to his life is to fulfill his desires, and Erick didn't want Adela to be indocumentada. Evelyn has consulted a lawyer, who told her that Adela can still claim legal residency (aun puedes reclamar su Residencia). Moreover, "neither my husband nor I are going to impede the last wish of our son." Evelyn just asks one thing: she never wants to see Adela again. Adela agrees and says she understands. She swears that she will find out who is responsible for Erick's death, and he will pay for his crime.

BAJO EL MISMO CIELO - VIERNES - Parte 3 de 3

This scene with Erick's mother was one of the two most important in the episode. The other was somewhat more lighthearted, though I doubt Maria felt that way. That scene involves Rudolfo. We saw earlier his absurd berating of Maria for not fulfilling her domestic responsibilities. Later on in the episode, Maria is venting to Isabel when there's a knock on the door: it's Patricio! He sees that both Maria and Isabel are present and refers to them as Rudolfo's harem, and he wonders whether Estela is there as well. He tells Maria that Rudolfo has been having an affair with Estela and tells her he came upon them in bed in a hotel. He then beat Rudolfo up and warned him, but he continued to see Estela. Maria now realizes that Rudolfo hadn't been hit by a car but by Patricio's fists. Patricio drives the message home by showing Maria Estela's cellphone, on which there are many incriminating messages to and from Rudolfo. Now Patricio wants to kill Rudolfo. He takes out a pistol and tries to go upstairs, but Isabel and Maria block his way, and Isabel pleads with him not to shoot and to go away, her children will soon be home. Isabel also calls Cristóbal and asks him to come. Before Cristóbal can get there, Estela turns up, hoping to see Rudolfo. Oops! Maria finally persuades Patricio to leave with his wife before the police arrive. After Rudolfo sees that Patricio and Estela have left, he comes downstairs just as Cristóbal arrives. Rudolfo asks where Maria is, and Isabel tells him that she's left, "she doesn't want to see you." So it looks as if the way may finally be clear for Maria to get rid of the lazy, sexist pig philanderer, aka Rudolfo, and find happiness with Jacob (especially since we're in últimas semanas).

Arrgh, if I'm going to get this recap posted before the morning is over, I'm going to have to speed things up. Here are some things I haven't mentioned:

1) Colmillo continues to enjoy being a father to Anita. Felicia seems a bit less enthusiastic about Colmillo than she was in the last episode, but she is still loyal to him. Also, some guys from "La Colonia" who had been with El Faier switch sides and want to work for Colmillo. I suspect that in part this is because the police have turned up the pressure to try to find El Faier, and this is impeding the gang's activities. Besides, El Faier's no longer seems to be the winning side.

2) Carlos receives a call from the lawyer letting him know that the judge has issued an order for Felicia to appear with the baby, but since no one can find Felicia, nothing can be done.

3) Carlos persuades Luis to go pick up his high school diploma, that it means a lot. There's a scene where Luis does this, shakes hands with someone (the principal, perhaps), and Susy takes photos. Luis hands the diploma to Carlos
to thank him for all he has done to help Luis get to this point. There's a touching father/son embrace.

4) In the last scene of the episode, Adela is by herself in her apartment when the door opens and Rodrigo enters. Though she doesn't know it, he's been keeping watch over her, even when doing so might be dangerous to him. He now comes in and says "Do you think I killed Erick? Are you too blaming me for Erick's death?" On that question, the episode ends.

deb, I'm delighted to hear that you've got your captions back. Several years ago, something similar happened to me. In my case, it wasn't that the captions were gone, but they were gibberish. I don't recall whether this was on Univision or Telemundo, but the problem was only on one of the two. Of course, it was the channel I was watching, but at least it suggested that the problem was not with my TV. After this dragged on for an immense amount of time, I called Comcast, through whom we have our cable TV, and after a telenovela-length series of useless conversations, I finally got to talk to someone in Colorado, I think. He seemed to know what he was talking about, and sure enough, the next day the problem was gone. So the squeaky-wheel strategy does seem to work.

Thanks for pointing out that the woman who plays Erick's mother was the psycho mom on Santa Diabla. I wondered why she looked familiar.

Hey, any chance that now that you've got your captions back, you might be willing to provide some of your delightful recaps? I've really missed them.

Bajo. Excellent and very complete recap, Juanita! This episode certainly lets us know that we're in the 21st century! No need for Maria to walk in on Rodrigo and Estela--Estela not only has messages from Rudolfo on her cell phone but pictures of their "interactions," I think. That young woman seems a few cards short of a full deck, a few flowers short of a bouquet, a few pints short of a gallon, etc. That would be great evidence in both Patricio's and Maria's divorce cases. It occurs to me that even though Rodrigo was lurking in the shadows, he should be on the security footage of one of the main terminals of the LA airport, which would prove that he was too far away at the time Erick was killed to be involved. Modern airports have very elaborate security systems. I believe someone else has mentioned that El Colmillo and his men should be on the hangar security footage--unless they somehow managed to disable it. It is a much smaller and presumably less protected facility than a major airport.

Bajo. I too am glad to hear that Deb's captioning problem is fixed and am looking forward to her Telemundo recaps. Was I mistaken or was Rudolfo trying to erase messages and pictures from his phone?

Bajo. And I loved Juana's comparison of Erick to an angel who completes his work of helping people and then returns to heaven. She may not be educated, but she certainly is wise!

Bajo

Thanks, SpanProf, for your kind words about the recap. I too wondered whether Rudolfo was trying to erase the incriminating messages, etc., from his phone. But since I wasn't at all sure, and there was so much else to say, I left it out.

BTW, I just noticed that in part 3 of the recap, I wrote that "Isabel pleads with him not to shoot and to go away, her children will soon be home." I meant Maria, not
Isabel.

Bajo

wow Juanita, each recap you do is better than the one before!

on the Colonia members switching sides, I think how Yei put it was that they felt like el Faier had abandoned them.

Adela, who has had the worst life of all, has more passion for the living than everyone put together, and who can appreciate that more, is our saint, Carlos.

say, has anyone seen the new promo for 'Eva la trailera', where seductive Marlene (Erika de la Rosa) jumps in bed with Eva's husband?

Bajo. Juanita: And Maria should take the advice she gave to Patricio about Estela and Rudolfo: Don't hurt them, divorce her (Estela). Let's hope she finally divorces Rudolfo!

BAJO Bravo! Juanita. Thanks for a comprehensive, fast moving recap of last night. The scene with Evelyn was really quite moving (fortunately I have no untoward associations with this actress—I thought she was perfectly cast as the stiff-spined matriarch who actually has real feelings).

Just wishing I could warm up to Rodrigo, I understand he's not pure 100% evil like Colmillo, AND there are extenuating circumstances, AND that he has done good for his community albeit in an illegal way, AND he's a wily survivor in a tough environment, AND that he's Carlos' hijo AND he a terrific actor AND... I just can't get myself to like him (he may have noble intentions, but he's still psychopathic with serious impulse control issues and an inappropriate sense of entitlement, and a cold-blooded murderer). Whew! Had to get that off my chest.

I sure hope that pig of a Rodolfo is NOT erasing the evidence, but then, why wouldn't he? He's in deep! Chabela has turned out to be the best friend Maria could have. So feisty, so unwilling to take the crap Rod was handing out, while Maria is mired in revulsion, but she also seems unable to throw the bum out. This story would be totally cliché in another production, but these actors (and the script) just never descend to that level. The real pathos of all these stories comes across. I loved the high school diploma scene. Susy seems genuinely untroubled by class differences.

Just a shout out to all who responded to our latest emergency with supportive comments to our blog mom. We were on the brink there for a while, but your positive comments saved the day. ¡Gracias à todos!

BAJO

Wow, Juanita!

There was a lot of material to cover, and it is obvious that you spent a great deal of time summarizing this for us. Thank you, as always, for your time and dedication to facilitating one of our favorite pastimes.

Re Erick's death, I am saddened that he had to be sacrificed. At the same time, I could not warm up to his character. As I said earlier, the writers created his persona as an enigma. We never knew for certain if he was going to force himself on Adela at some later point. He rarely smiled. We learned that he performed many wonderful acts of kindness, but I feel that he was portrayed as a rather cold individual. It was very surprising to see him describe the circumstances for wearing the clown nose.

There was an important scene depicting a confrontation between Greicy and Carlos.
He and Luis went to Rodrigo's house looking for him, and when Carlos asked where Rod was,Greicy said he was looking for their child.

Carlos told her that she was lying. Greicy then called Carlos (of whom she has always been very fond) a traitor for calling the police on his son. Luis then chimed in and said that Rod must pay for his errors.

Rodrigo's bravado is fading to a degree, but he still wants to protect Adela and have her think well of him. She still doesn't know the complete circumstances of her mother's death.

Many thanks, again, Juanita,

Chat later.....

Thanks again, Juanita

Bajo

Many thanks, deb, for your very kind words about the recap, and also for your explanation of why the Colonia guys switched sides. I also enjoyed what you said about Adela's appreciation of life. That was evident, too, in the scene with Erick's mother, where Adela was vividly remembering all the good things about Erick.

I haven't seen the trailer you mentioned, but I suspect I'll probably give "Eva" a try, based partly on the time slot and, especially, some positive things that others have said about cast members. Will you be watching it, too?

Bajo

Thanks very much, LXV and Floridia, for your very encouraging words about the recap.

LXV, I too found the scene with Erick's mother very moving, and I agree that the actress did a terrific job. As for Rodrigo, what can I say? I find him very attractive physically, and although you're absolutely right that he's in some ways a cold-blooded killer with serious-impulse control problems, I love watching him. I'd probably find him insufferable in Real Life, but in the novela, I'm rooting for him, even though I know he's a lost cause.

Floridia, I feel much as you do about Erick. I wonder whether his face always seems so hard, or whether in a different role he'd look and seem warmer, more loveable. And I see Greicy's accusing Carlos of being a traitor as a sign of just how strong her love for Rodrigo still is. I'm pretty sure Rodrigo isn't going to be alive at the end of the novela. I'm not sure what Greicy's fate will be.

Bajo. If Rodrigo had never killed anyone except in self defense, he'd have a chance of surviving. But we viewers have seen him murder some people in cold blood--all gang members, but still. As it is, the best he can hope for is to die nobly, protecting someone else--Adela, Greicy, Carlos, Anita, or all of the above. One of the many wonderful things about this telenovela is the ambiguous characterization of Rodrigo--he really is a complex and not completely fathomable character. LXV and Juanita have summed him up as well as is possible, I think.

Greicy is La Jefa(the boss) now! She's smarter than i thought. If only rod would see whats right in front of him! I also never liked Eric. I did feel a tad sad when he died. Cant stand colmillo, felicia and jay/Yei. The big payback is monday for them!N.Lopez

BAJO

Juanita, I too am attracted to Rodrigo, like you and Greicy.

Yet in real life, we would likely think of him as the ultimate scum bag.

S/P I agree that Rod will die nobly.

Bajo

Juanita, another stellar recap! You described everything SO well.

All the scenes were well acted. Adela and Erick's mother's scene was great. The actress showed subtly that she was on to Paulina's extreme antipathy toward Adela, asking that they be left alone for the suit selection.

And I loved the scene with Carlos and Luis when he got his actual high school diploma. His father is SO proud of him, and justifiably. Apparently he has real design skills which they showed in the episode where they were showing that he did landscape design work for the rapidly growing Martinez Gardening business.

I'm liking Rodrigo lately. And his chickens sort of came home to roost in a good way when he was taken in by someone in the barrio he'd helped financially. He's desperate to convince Adela he didn't break his word not to harm Erick.

OK, gotta go. My son and daughter-in-law came over for the day. They're about a two hour drive away. My son came to do a bunch of home handyman chores around my house. I'm SO lucky to have him. And I'll be taking them to dinner.

FATMAGUL: Tuesday-Friday

Vural and Erdogan Are Once Again the Yasaran Problem Kids:
After a rocky week with her last week, and the start of this week, the Yasaran finally manage to bring Meltem into the fold. And they do it with Mustafa’s help. He’s her final stop on the search for truth, and his impassioned speech, asking if she thinks he has so little pride that he would work for the Yasaran if they had raped his fiancé (ha!), is what finally convinces her that the rape didn’t happen. To sweeten her up some more (and to tie her more tightly to the family), Resat Yasaran gifts her some shares in Yasaran Holdings.

Vural and Erdogan become the problems this week instead. Vural is sick of being ignored in the business meetings, and realizes they gave him the job just to keep him under Yasaran control. Since the incident at Kerim and Fatmagul’s house, his conscience has started bugging him again. He can’t sleep, he stalks Kerim and Fatma’s house at night, he has nightmares about the rape and hears Fatmagul’s screams even when he’s awake, he tells his father. He tries to steal the gun Mustafa shot Semir with from Resat’s safe, but Erdogan stops him; he quits his job at Yasaran Holdings; and he packs his bags to leave the country. He’s convinced to stay, however, after Resat insists they all need to stay united to fight Erdogan. Because…

Erdogan is a busy bee this week. He steals the gun from Resat’s safe, and doesn’t care that they all found out. He knows whoever has the gun, has control of Mustafa. He gets into a pissing match with Munir over Meltem’s (young, hot, blonde) cousin, Gaye. They both want her. She’s been going out with Munir and actually seems interested in the old geezer. He’s planning on leaving behind bachelorhood and popping the question. Everyone is delighted, except Erdogan (obviously) and Vural’s mom, Leman, who’s been having an affair with Munir and was planning on leaving her husband Semsi for him. Erdogan meets with Gaye, and whatever he tells her about Munir upsets her so much that she doesn’t want to speak to either of them again, and decides to leave the country.

Meltem hosts a housewarming dinner party, which gets awkward very quickly when Munir, Leman, Erdogan, and Gaye all end up sharing the same table. Gaye leaves, Munir follows to beg, she blows him off and leaves, Leman follows Munir to tell him off for using her and dumping her, when she was even intent of leaving her husband for him. Munir yells at her scornfully: “I never forced you! Leave me the hell alone!” Vural arrives just in time to hear this ex-lovers’ argument, and immediate starts beating the crap out of Munir. He orders Munir to stay away from his mother, or he will KILL him! The fight brings the whole family outside, including Meltem’s mother and father (who had just asked Resat to join his party and run for local office). The family are all incredibly embarrassed. The men drag enraged Vural off of Munir. Semsi looks devastated, and Leman looks ashamed and defeated.

Erdogan also decides to put Mustafa out of commission for a while. He has the company head henchman Ismael (whose job Mustafa was given) arrange for Mustafa to be stabbed in his car near Asu’s house. Like the last time he was assaulted, when the henchmen said they were there on behalf of Kerim, these henchmen say they represent Asu’s pimp (Ismael just might have actually contacted the pimp), and that he needs to stay away from her. He’s left for dead. The garbage man who finds Mustafa answers his phone, and tells Asu what’s happened. Mustafa is taken to the hospital. Erdogan and Munir both make sure Mustafa is taken care of at the hospital and that he and his parents know who paid the bill. Just one more thing he owes the Yasaran family.

FATMAGUL:

Mustafa Makes Asu Reconsider Hooking:
Mustafa continues to sink lower this week, and I really didn’t think that was possible. After starting the week claiming pride and integrity that he doesn’t have, and convincing Meltem that Fatmagul is a liar, Mustafa stalks the Yasaran by showing up for a date with Asu at the same swanky restaurant they are dining in, then makes a scene. He becomes overbearing and controlling of Asu, what she wears, how she wears her hair and makeup, where she goes, and who she sees—she’s basically a prisoner in her own house. When he comes home to find she gone out (to the fricking grocery store!), he yells at her, then slaps her (yeah, actually HITS her) when she rightfully tells him he wouldn’t treat her this way if she were Fatmagul. She tells him that hurting her won’t heal his pain over Fatmagul. He leaves, then returns shortly to sort of apologize. Unfortunately, she accepts his apology.

After he gets stabbed, Asu makes a statement to the police, since she suspects her pimp is the one who had him stabbed. She contacts his parents who come right away from the village. And she stays constantly by his hospital bedside. Which makes it even more painful when he calls her Fatmagul when he finally wakes from the anesthesia. His mother is there to hear this.

After speaking to the police, Mustafa’s dad soon learns what Asu does/did for a living. They order her to leave the hospital and never see their son again. She refuses (partly because Sami, her handler, has shown up to threaten her outside the hospital). Mustafa’s mother blames both Asu and Fatmagul (I have no patience for this woman) for Mustafa getting stabbed. If Fatma hadn’t betrayed him, then he would have never taken up with a fallen woman like Asu, and then he wouldn’t have gotten stabbed. (I roll my eyes.)

FATMAGUL:

Mukaddes Gets Found Out:
Mukaddes uses the new laptop Kerim buys the family (really, Fatmagul) to look up an old flame, Sahli Mercan, and we quickly learn exactly what significant role he played in her life. Through a series of flashbacks to seven years ago, we see a younger Mukaddes getting it on with Sahli in a storeroom and in a car. She tells him she’s pregnant. He tells her to get rid of it. He leaves the village and never comes back. She goes to the hospital to get an abortion, but she can’t go through with it. She runs outside, and meets…Rahmi, who has come to the hospital to claim the bodies of his parents who have just died in a terrible accident. While his uncles go inside, he speaks to a teary Mukaddes. She learns he just inherited his parents’ land and business, and also sole care of his 12 year old sister. She also learns that he’s not so sharp. She sees an opportunity. Soon she’s meeting Fatmagul for the first time, and being nice to her (!), and very quickly marries Rahmi. VERY soon after, we learn from Fatmagul, Munir was born….

Mukaddes goes to see Sahli at his warehouse (his family has a well off dry goods business). They rehash old times, and flirt. He obviously thinks she had that abortion. He never returned to the village because he went to the army, then his dad wanted him to work with him in Istanbul, and then he got married and now has two little daughters. Mukaddes eyes the picture of his daughters.

They arrange a second meeting, at a restaurant with a hotel upstairs…Before they can get down to, ahem, business, Mukaddes ruins the mood by telling him her son Munir, is HIS son. She wants him to take responsibility. Sahli has NO intention of jeopardizing his position with his father, and his family.

During her various trips to see Sahli, Mukaddes has unknowingly been spotted and followed by Ebe Nine and spotted by Fatmagul and Kerim. Fatmagul and Kerim also overhear her on the phone with Sahli, demanding that he take responsibility for her and HIS son. Eventually, the three of them confront her, and she admits Munir is not Rahmi’s son, just as Rahmi comes back into the house. Rahmi is devastated, hurt, and confused. But he still considers Munir HIS son. He’s such a sweet soul that he forgives Mukaddes the deception. They all show Mukaddes more sympathy, support and understanding than she deserves or has ever shown any of them.

Mukaddes pays back all this kindness by secretly packing her and Munir’s things, taking Munir from school, and running away to force Sahli into supporting her and their son. She shows up unexpectedly at his warehouse, and meets his father. Munir instantly bonds with his grandfather. Sahli hustles them off before Mukaddes can spill the beans to his father. He takes them to a hotel, then screams at Mukaddes in front of Munir about putting him in this position. Munir is scared and unhappy, and wants to go home to his father and aunt. Mukaddes follows Sahli outside the hotel, pressing her case. He HAS to take care of the mother of his child and his son. She pretends to call his father on the phone and tell him the truth. He beats her brutally and drags her, right there in the middle of the sidewalk in broad daylight! Bystanders run to her aid, and Sahli takes off. Eventually, she drags herself back to the hotel room, and assesses her situation. She listens to the messages from pissed off Ebe Nine and Fatmagul and the worried sick messages from devastated Rahmi. She knows her options have run out, and finally picks up one of Rahmi’s calls. “He’s my son, and you are my wife. The two of you are my life.” She tells him where they are, and Rahmi and Ebe Nine rush to get them. They both flinch when they see her battered face, but ask her no questions as they load her and Rahmi into the truck. Both Ebe Nine and Mukaddes spot Sahli in his car, who has returned with flowers, as they drive away. Neither woman says anything.

FATMAGUL:

Kerim and Fatmagul—A Discussion on Forgiveness, an Admission of Love:
Seeing Fatmagul wearing the wedding band he bought her (just for show, they both say), has put a pep in the step of Kerim. He buys her a laptop. He buys the family a new truck (since the old one died). He picks her up from work, enjoying the drive or walk they share on the way home. Any opportunity to be in her presence he takes.

Fatmagul is enjoying the freedom of working. She is overjoyed to receive her first pay ever for her work, in the form of her first day’s share of tips. She buys sweets for the whole family. She’s also studying into the wee hours each night, and now also has the laptop Kerim purchased.

The laptop causes its own drama, being the way Mukaddes finds Sahli, and also allowing Kerim to check his email for the first time in months. He has a message from an old friend/girlfriend Kristen—an English-speaking foreigner who is eager to see him again. She attaches a happy picture of the two of them from the previous new year’s. This does not escape Mukaddes, who of course has to mention it to Fatmagul.

Fatmagul and Kerim spend a lot of time together, as they try to solve the Mukaddes-Sahli drama and keep Rahmi calm. She even allows him to sit and eat at the dining table with her and Ebe Nine, but he ruins it by taking a call from Kristen. She’s going to be back in Turkey and she has a job for him. Kerim is amused to see that Fatmagul is jealous and tells her Kristen is just a friend. “What do I care? You can talk to whoever you want! Who do you think you are?”

Kerim also receives snail mail that upsets him. His father has sent him a letter, via Ebe Nine, from Australia. In front of Ebe Nine and Fatmagul he rips up and throws away the letter before even reading it. Ebe Nine tries to reason with him to at least see what his father is trying to tell him, but Kerim is NEVER EVER going to forgive him and has no interest in what he has to say. He goes off to get drunk. Ebe Nine confides in Fatmagul that his father has been sending him letters for years, and Kerim always rips them up before reading them.

This leads to a conversation between Fatmagul and Kerim where she encourages him to read the letter and hear his father out.
Kerim: How easy it is to ask forgiveness!
Fatma (looking him directly in the eyes): It is easy, when we don’t understand the other person’s pain and the damage we did to them. If we did, we wouldn’t ask.
Kerim: They have to deserve forgiveness. But how can you forgive them, when you don’t believe them?

The week wraps up with another conversation between Fatmagul and Kerim, as they wait for Ebe Nine and Rahmi to return with Mukaddes and Munir. Fatmagul has gone outside to think and cry, and Kerim thinks he has once again said or done something to upset her.
Fatma: Not everything I do is about you. You’re not that important!... I’m thinking about the future. How can we live with that woman (Mukaddes)? How can we all live together?
Kerim: Nothing I do makes you happy. Why can’t you see that everything I do is to make you happy?... I wish you could see things from my point of view and not treat me like a stranger. I can’t take your contempt anymore.
Fatmagul: You could have left. You went back on your word to leave, to give me a divorce… You do these things just to make yourself feel better. You’re an egoist!
Kerim: Do you think it’s easy for me to be so close yet so far from you? To not be able to tell you that I love you? Did you hear me? I said, I love you! I love you.

End of episode. End of week.

Bajo

Many thanks, novelera, for your very kind remarks about my recap. I too loved the scene with Adela and Erick's mother. One of the things I continually admire about this novela is that the actors are capable of conveying so much so subtly, as in the example you mentioned with Erick's mother. It says something very positive about both the actors and the writers.

FATMAGUL: Oops. Realized I called Selim Semir above. And I kept calling little Murat Munir. Also typo when it should have been they load Mukaddes and Murat (not Rahmi) into the truck. Sorry, I was tired, but should have proofread. Sorry if it caused confusion.

FATMAGUL

Just finished catching up for this week. Many thank yous JdesdeNYC!! Awesome recap! It was sweet that Kerim bought the wedding rings, but I thought he was dreaming if he believed she would wear them, even if he said it was "just for show". So her putting it on before worked surprised me. Im guessing it had something to do with the saftey she expects from wearing it. Right before she put it on, we saw how she was very aware of passing a random dude on the street.

Poor Meltem surround by lies all around. I hated seeing how her new lovely family pressured her, and made it seem like she was crazy for ever doubting. The way everyone played her, girl didn't have a chance.

And also thank you Vivi!! And no worries about confusion, another great great recap! Erdogan has me worried, he's becoming a wild card and I'm scared to see what more he is capable of, espcailly remembering those comments he made episodes ago about fatmagul after they went with the thugs to teach kerim and her a lesson.

I loved how Fatmagul was getting some independence! It was great to see how proud she was buying bread and sweets with her own money. What I don't love is Mukaddes and her selfish and entitled ways. But nevertheless that beatdown she went through was brutal. Couldn't believe how quickly that escalated. Poor Rahmi, now we know how they got together. When I first saw them I did not think husband and wife.

Laptop drama:
I had to laugh at how quickly Kerim closed out of his email when Mukkades tried to see that pic of Kristin. He's on to her ways. And even though Fatmagul wasn't happy, I think taking that call from Kristin showed he had noting to hide.

I missed the last 30 minutes of Friday's episode because of breaking news, so missed kerim's admission. Hopefully they show those last few minutes on Monday!

jlk

Fatmagul.

Thanks to the recappers for their efforts with this show. Your insights are so helpful. Vivi...your detailing the forgiveness conversation between Fatma and Kerim was so helpful as I was trying to figure that part out...having replayed it 3 times. Anyway, I've probably only watched a dozen telenovelas in my attempt to learn Spanish...but this show is one of the better ones I've watched so far...along with Bajo. I don't condone guys putting their hands on a female but I couldn't help but think that Mukkadas deserved her beat down...especially when thinking of how she physically and verbally roughed up Fatma in earlier episodes.

FATMAGUL:

jlk- Yeah, I chuckled when Kerim closed up that pic and email real quick before Mukaddes could get a peek at Kristen. :)

My recording of the last 30 mins on Friday was El Chapo coverage too, but luckily the episode was On Demand this weekend.

Vural is worried about Erdogan's intentions towards Fatmagul too, and he's said so to Selim. He saw up close the aroused look in Erdogan's eyes after they left Kerim and Fatmagul after the attack on them and their house. In the episode where Munir and Erdogan get into a fist fight over Gaye in the office, Munir insults him by saying he couldn't be interested in a woman unless someone was holding down her legs and arms. That's when the fists started flying. But there is definitely some truth in that. He also seems to only be interested in the women his uncles are interested in. First Resat's mistress, and now Munir's paramour.

FATMAGUL:

Nett- Glad I could be of help with that conversation. It's an interesting place Fatmagul and Kerim find themselves in. She obviously thinks he should consider forgiving his father, while at the same time being completely unable to forgive Kerim. And Kerim is desperate for her forgiveness, while at the same time being vehemently against forgiving his father.

Fatma: Thanks for the recaps. The dinner scene is one of the most pivotal one in Kerim and Fatma's journey. It shows that Fatma is slowly accepting Kerim in her life. Kerim could not believe his eyes when he saw her place that bowl on the table. He was almost afraid to break the eye contact less the moment evaporated. I cheered when I saw the beating back when I watched for the first time. Muka deserves it for what she has done and continues to do to Fatma. I have never loved a fictional character as much as I love Fatma and Kerim with all his flaws is a woman's dream. We should all be so lucky to find such a kind soul.

FATMAGUL

Vivi, I liked the way you described the situation fatmagul and kerim are in in terms of forgiveness, aptly put.

Like fatmagul said episodes ago to kerim "being nice to you is like betraying myself" She thaws but then remembers the anger she seems she can't nor wants to get rid of. The current situations they have to face does bring them together as a team but I wonder what kind of breakthrough they are going to have to have to move forward without taking so many steps back.

One thing I'm liking about this tn is that the pace of the show allows for all the nuances needed for a story like this. I loved how they slowly gave us the dinner scene. We see fatmagul help serve 1,2, and then 3 plates. A little thing that shows so much meaning.

Did Erdogan know that his uncle liked Gaye as well? He's still creepy though, smart of her for deciding to get away from the situation.

FATMAGUL:

jlk- Yes, Erdogan had known from before the wedding that Munir was interested in Gaye from before the wedding when they had both been flirting with her. But I don't think he knew just how serious he was about her (marriage!) until these episodes.

I too like the pace of this tn. I actually think Fatma is going to need professional help before she can really move on with her life, and before she can really forgive Kerim.

FATMAGUL:

The other bit of nuance about that dinner scene is that Fatma places the third bowl of soup almost at the edge of the corner of the table. Not quite at a place/seat. So Kerim could have taken it as an invitation to TAKE his bowl and go, or an invitation to sit at the table. He was totally unsure, and it was Ebe Nine, through eye movement and expression, who told him to sit down where there was a bowl placed, and she then moved the bowl at the edge to herself. Very well done by the director and actors all around.

in the NEWS...

read all about it, El Chapo, Kate del Castillo, Sean Penn,

Telemundo Page

Juanita I deeply appreciate your successful efforts to blog mom to continue the Telemundo page under Caray, Caray. Thanks blog mom. There are many of us out here who are what I call silent watchers, who are limited in Spanish and rely on the goodness and diligence of the recappers to fill in the blanks; not to mention the enjoyment I get out of each recapped' style and sense of humor. I thank you recappers every episode for the time, effort and talent you willingly give to the Caray community. I personally look forward to watching the telenovelas and reading the recaps.

GENERAL
Thanks deb for providing those links to the Guzman story. Fascinating. Don't know what to make of it all. But sure makes for high drama.

Sounds like Kate del Castillo may have taken her role as Teresa Mendoza too much to heart. :-)

Fatmagul

Vivi, excellent recap. Loved the way you compartmentalized the events. No need to apologize for the mishap in names, did not take anything from the recap, we all knew to whom you referenced. For a second I had empathy for Mukkades. What a beat down she received physically and to her already low self-esteem. However, I am not sure a lesson was learned here. Can't wait to see how she behaves with everyone in the house - Rami, Fatma, Ebe and Kerim now. Ahhhh, the Yasaran clan, even all of their money can't alleviate their problems; Vural is a guilty feeling loose cannon, Erogodan is dangerous and Semir is a slime. These people have no morals, the child ren are a reflection of their parents, with the exception of Meltem. Wake up girl! I really think that Musta may team up with Kerim against the bad boys when he realizes the bad boys want him dead. What a beating Vural gave Munir, now he only has one client, Semir. Waiting for Fatma to thaw a little more with Kerim.
