Antes muerta que Lichita February 1: Alicia starts to turn into Sandra. Dafne is highly sought after. Gumaro has butterflies in his stomach.

We enter in the awkward glam party where the famous video (the one Lichita went into the pool after) (the one with the non-glam pre-makeover Lichita tearfully excoriating Ikonika) is playing to a dumbstruck audience. Well, sufficed to say present day smooth talking Alicia talks her way out of it on stage and gets a big hand from everyone. Augusto and Bea are impressed.

Dafne catches Gumaro poking around in Augusto's study and is unimpressed with his explanations which are as lame as you'd expect. Seems she doesn't like him much now that she knows he's fooling around with her half-sister Luciana. She says she'll save this tidbit of wrongdoing to rat him out with at the right moment.

While we see Braulio and Brisa miserable that this near-fiasco was their fault (Brisa found, then lost, the rageful video, then B&B got so busy fighting about lo nuestro they forgot about the disk), we see that Alicia is convinced Beto did it (there are flashbacks to when he'd say, "I'll do anything to keep you from being boss"). When Santi shows up she shares her furious suspicion. He's sad that she cares so much, even though she says all she feels for Beto is hatred.

Magos is watching Corazon Inamorado again, which I wouldn't mention except that our Sandra appears in it! Heh.

After the ceremony Bea and Augusto are tired and head separate directions to their bedrooms. Luciana wants Roberto with her as she badmouths Alicia but he says he's tired and also heads off. Alone, Luci starts moaning for her "Gumi" and has a split-personality argument about her attraction to him. No, yes, etc.

Next morning we have an awkwardly written encounter. After explaining to the garage attendant that she needs more practice driving, Alicia backs into Beto and knocks him over - he is ok ("now I have four lives left") but thinks she did it on purpose. She says, "No, but you sprung that video on purpose." He denies it. He adds, "Nobody wants you for a boss... My problems are worse than your problems." Stomps off. And this is the guy we're supposed to be rooting for?

Gumaro and Luciana have another adorable encounter in the bonsai pergola. She feels abandoned and alone. He is a healthy single man who needs love. She says all she wants is a hug. He says he "feels things" in his belly. She says, you're falling in love with me, but don't, because I'm married. He asks: "Do you feel anything for my buddy... UH... that guy, what's his name, Roberto, that's right, for Roberto?" She sadly says "we are a perfect, fabulous couple." They hug. She says she hates infidelity. She leaves and he sighs, "Juanga, inspire me." (I think that's Juan Gabriel, movie star?)

Braulio and Brisa apologize to Alicia for losing the video.

Elias and Fatima warn Alicia not to forget where she came from, and that people didn't want her in charge and "they have many ways to make you look bad." "That's ok, I know I can't trust anyone."

Nacho and Elsa are going on a "second honeymoon" soon. Nacho thinks he'll buy a couple of taxis on credit (with his insurance money) but he won't do the driving. He will work his way up to 100-200 taxes. Good luck with that, buddy.

Magos makes a coffee for her phone debt collector Viriato. She's falling in love with him. He looks pretty enthused as well. After work he comes again, she sends Ximena off to do homework ("don't flirt, mom," Ximena scolds) and tells Virris: "please don't talk about debt so much." "It's because of my job I guess."

Augusto tells Alicia: "Santi didn't get you the job, you were the most qualified candidate, and now you're my right-hand man." He says the same to Beto about API.

Alicia calls a meeting of all the creatives, also Chuchette and Nestor (who say they shouldn't have to be there). (Alicia excused Braulio from the meeting because she doesn't need to ream him out.) She wants them brainstorming about the Karis soap account - and she wants somebody to find Dafy the blogger, she wants to get product placement in the blog, with its emphasis on authenticity and self-esteem, and they have to work all night. "I used to do it all the time." Long meeting, no good ideas, lots of grumbling, she snaps: "Forget what I said about a warm leadership style, after that video gag the gloves are off. I'll soon have you wishing Sandra would come back."

The first question Beto asks the old API dudes (duds) is not, "What is my work?" but, "Who invited Vladimir to the event?" They don't know.

Sheila calls the mystery guy (who is probably Vladimir) and says "Beto is going to guess because I slipped up and said he knows you." The mystery guy asks: "When are you going to tell him I'm the kid's tutor?" That's important - see the end of the recap...

Braulio, who can't bring himself to "unfriend" Brisa, admits to Alicia "I love her more than I love my movie."

The D-team has created a new web chat to talk trash about Alicia. Now there's exciting news.

Alicia has invited Dafne to her new office. "Can you help me find Dafy the blogger? I want her to be part of this campaign..." Dafne professes ignorance but wants to know everything about the soap campaign. Alicia praises the blogger for being so direct and open. Alex shows up, hugs all round, he came with Bea, Dafne (living elsewhere now) leaves by the back door to avoid getting a sermon from Bea.

Alicia asks Bea (who's learning about the biz from Elias, who's simultaneously also successfully flirting with her) if she'd like to be on the Karis soap campaign. Bea is pleased to be asked and agrees. Elias asks her if she'd also like to be on the LGBT travel agency account; she says that's going a little far although she wants to support Alex. She doesn't want trouble with Augusto especially now when the divorce lawyers are having at it.

Then we cut to Sandra, who is hammering on one of her employees about finding Dafy. "I need her for MY campaign! Bring her, by force if necessary!"

Beto, in his new chair of power, frowns over an internet article about a steel magnate accused of fraud who rehabilitated his image (through publicity) and now "supports foundations for homeless teenagers." "That #$#$#&* hole" mutters Beto.

Nestor tells Alex "I cancelled your meeting with the LGBT travel agency." "You had no right." "Your dad doesn't want any dealings with gays." "Mom supports me." "Oh, typical, sit on your mommy's lap." "I'll wipe that stupid smile off your face." Chuchette later comments, "If Alicia supports Alex she'll look bad to the boss." All this office politics makes. me. tired.

At the police station Beto tells detective Carmona, who already knew Beto was the Black Panther: "The reason I beat that guy [Vladimir] up was -- that he abused a minor and got away with it." See the insidious implication there about Vladimir being Mateo's tutor? Duh duh-duh duh. "And I'll tell you why nobody can know I have a son." So Beto wasn't planning on EVER coming clean?

Tomorrow: Santi shows up with an engagement ring.

Thanks Jane! Glad you were able to find a stream. Is your antenna still out?

I was happy to see Alicia stick it to her bad employees. I wish she would just go ahead and fire some, especially Nestor. I really wanted Alex to punch his face in!

Was this a combination of two episodes? I ask because I felt like I was missing transitions in a couple of places.

So Dafne is playing coy about her blog. Good for her. She could actually make quite a bit of money from advertising within it as long as her readers don't think she is selling out.

The whole thing about Vlad is disgusting. I worry about Mateo being alone with him. Does Sheila know? Is this part of the reason Rob has kept Mateo a secret? He is afraid his prison mates will use Mateo to get back at him?

Luci's epiphany that her father, Rafa, was the only one who tried to help her, was sad. Though her mom has tried to help her too. Unfortunately she never listens or learns.

Gosh the previews show Santi jumping the shark! Too soon bro, even if you are gorgeous and considerate and...oh do yourself a favor Alicia and say yes!

Thanks, Jane, the recap was great. "And this is the guy we are supposed to be rooting for." says it all about our IMO "fatally flawed galán." What a jerk!

I was glad that:

we finally got the explanation of Vladimir/his crime/the jail beating/not to know about Mateo. It sure was a long time coming.
Fátima warned Alicia about her co-workers.
Alicia laid down the law with her slacker employees.
Dafne is saving her goods on Gumaro for when she can use it to her best advantage.
Gumaro was able to support Luciana in her "loneliness".

How long until someone finds who is behind the blog?
How long until we find out who the mystery man/tutor is in Sheila's life?

Did I ever say that Braulio and Brisa are worthless? If I didn't, I am now.

Do we know for certain who queued up the video of Alicia?

Thanks, Jane!

I'm not sure if Alicia's speech about that being the OLD Alicia/Lichita would have really done the trick to make the audience feel good about Iconika, but ok, I'll accept it. I had hoped hearing her old rant about Iconika would make Alicia wake up to the fact that nothing has changed. She has the job title she always wanted, but she STILL doesn't have the respect of the majority of Iconika.

The only people we saw plotting about the video were Nestor and Luci. How they got their hands on the video is the question not answered.

Jane, thank you for the fine recap.

"awkward glam party" made me smile but "He will work his way up to 100-200 taxes. Good luck with that, buddy" made me laugh out loud. You always make your recaps fun yet never fail to insightfully note what many of us are thinking "All this office politics makes. me. tired." Me too! And rather sad.

I don't want Vlad anywhere near Mateo - the thought makes me ill.

A part of me is rooting for Gumaro and Luci. It's not that I like Luci (I don't) but I like Gumaro...I think our cool, savvy Dafne will not rat Gumaro out unless absolutely necessary.

Alicia will always be the target at Iconika. This is why I've wanted her to leave for some time now. And yes, it is sad she doesn't have anyone's respect but even sadder that she is still being humiliated after all this time. Those people are relentless and cruel. They've bested and beaten her up. Now, she must leave.

There is no happy ending for Alicia with Roberto. What an idiot. There can only be happiness when she strikes out on her own (or with Dafne).

Diana

That would be so wonderful Diana - if Alicia did Not end up with that weakling Roberto. They also bring out the worst in each other which is a big omen to me.

Thank You Jane. Better recap than the episode...what else is new?
From experience..Alicia needs to take stock of her personnel. Those truly on team Alicia stay, the backstabbers and people who do ab--so--lute--ly nothing, goodbye.

Even with a reduction in force, they will get more done without the roadblock builders / chaff. Chuchette and Nestor, I would have security escort them out without a minute's notice. They could come pick up their personal stuff from their desks tomorrow in the parking lot after it had been analyzed by security. Banned from the premises, and front desk instructed to put them on permanent hold with musak if they try to call in.

Thank you so much Jane---Without you I never would have known that there is a new web chat to trash Alicia. I just don't get these people. Were they born with a screw loose that never got tightened along the way?

Don't know who is behind the new web chat but if it isn't Chuchette and Nestor, I'm
sure that they will be very active on it.

I want to see Alicia start firing the troublemakers.

Does Luci really want to stay in a loveless marriage with Roberto? She's got Gumaro slobbering all over himself whenever she's around.

A ring for Alicia from Santi? Will she accept it?

I can't wait for Alicia to team up with Dafne on the big new blog project. Sandra may want in, but I can't see her having a chance. It will be Dafne and Alicia all the way.

must see tv
the gringo

Would that not be a *novel* idea to break with novela conventions and give a more satisfying end to all of this and have Alicia not up with Roberto? With the rising competition with production on traditional networks, cable, Internet, etc., I wonder if novelas are going to be forced to break with conventions to make more interesting plots/have shorter runs to keep viewers on board?

Thanks Jane...I agree that the recap was much better than the show itself.
Jarifa I totally agree about breaking from conventions. Its much more fun to be surprised...or even when they take tiring conventions and place a usual twist on them I can accept.

Seems like Alicia will become a lot worse before things get any better. There have been repeated warnings that Alicia should not change who she is. And tonight it showed that she could be intentionally mean (even though these Iconika employees deserved it). She's giving up her wish to create a collaborative environment only to feed into manipulative system they already have....causing the vicious cycle.

Did you notice Alicia even rolled her rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr in trabajarrrrrrrrrr like Sandra used to? Sandra was NOT a good role model, she ended up miserable. (I thought she was softening for a while but her heart turned stony again when Augusto dumped her.) They are trying to tell us, I fear, that an ambitious woman becomes a @#$$ buster and loses her soul. I hope that isn't the message. But yes, why oh why is Nestor not fired? Has he done even one stitch of work since this novela started?

Jane, so glad your antenna is up and running again and you were able to provide such an informative recap. I, too, missed the part about the web chat site to "get" Lichita. Appreciate the note on that.

I know Roberto is still not a fan fave but am reminded the only reason he didn't want Alicia to get the main job was to protect her from the evils of Augusto. But he can't show his hand on that one yet. Roberto is having to do quite the juggling act here, including what must be terrifying concerns about the welfare of his son. I still see a whole of sparks between Alicia and Roberto....and...well, I still think alot of the nonsense that has separated them will drop away and they'll be together in the end.

I Would love to know exactly what it was Alicia said to get herself out of that mess explaniing away the old video where she was so furious about Ikonika. I can't fathom what it was she said that had everyone applauding rather than throwing tomatoes at her, Bea and Augusto included.

And I'm with Diana and others, yearning for Alicia to get the heck out of Ikonika and take all those clients with her...and Daphne. After first firing Nestor, Chuchette, etc.

Dona, what she said was such blather I couldn't bear to repeat it. Love and hate, both part of passion, I have passion for my job, etc.

Thanks, Jane. Fabulous recap.

Totally understand, Jane. I think I get the gist. And agree with Niecie, fabulous recap.
