Pasion y Poder #80 Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016

Hello Patio Peeps. It will be short and sweet tonight. I have an early appointment in the morning.

Gaby questioned Franco about when he planned on telling her that Eladio was his father.

The insurance guy shows pictures of the cut brake lines to Art. The guy says it was a professional job. They need to call the police.

Franco tries to talk his way out of it. He says that Gaby heard wrong. He says that Eladio sees him as a son, but Gaby isn't buying it. Franco says he was going to tell her that night when they were alone, but she does not believe him. She realizes that Eladio has been lying to Julia for years and that Eladio was cheating on Julia when she was pregnant with David. Gaby also states that Franco waited til they were married to tell her so that she would have no choice but to accept it (QTH, get a divorce Gaby!). Franco didn't tell her because he didn't want to lose her. Gaby says that she would not have been with Franco had she known that he had been keeping this from her.

Clara tells Connie that Miguel was not serious when he said that Erick should be dead. Connie knows that Miguel didn't mean it. She just hopes that Nina doesn't tell Art.

Franco swears to Gaby that he just found out about Eladio being his father. He is turning on the charm and trying to convince her to keep the secret because it would cause her aunt too much pain. Gaby does not want to be an accomplice.

Meanwhile, Eladio and Julia are getting comfortable in their bedroom, talking about renewing their vows when Franco comes crashing in. (Again, someone forgot to close the door). Franco needs to talk to Eladio, about work.

Art questions Miguel about the night of the crash. He asks what he did after leaving Connie's flat. Miguel tells him that he went home, then got a call from Connie telling him that she confessed her true feelings for him to Erick. Art asks if that is all. He tells Miguel that Erick's accident was not an accident. It was attempted murder.

Franco tells Eladio, with Gaby in the room, that she knows the secret. Eladio tells Gaby that she can not tell her aunt because it will destroy her happiness.

Miguel is upset that Art thought he could hurt Erick. Art denies that he thought Miguel was behind the attempt, saying that sometimes love blinds you. Miguel tells him that he should at least rest easier knowing that his call is not what caused Erick to crash. He tells his father to tell Connie that her confession was not the cause of the crash either.

Eladio and Franco try to convince Gaby to keep quiet. She refuses because the lie affects not only Julia, but David too. She wishes she had never found out and storms out of the office, but Eladio chases after her. He tells her that he has done so much to win Julia's love. Gaby says he has lied to Julia for their whole marriage. Eladio tells her that if she tells the truth, she will destroy everyone around her, including Franco. He says that in occasions like this, it's best to bury the truth. All he is asking is for her silence.

In Monterrey, Gina gets off the phone with her mom. David convinces her to go out to meet his friends to get her mind off her brother.

Back in the DF, Nina and Art watch over their son. Art tells Nina about the brakes being cut from the car. Nina automatically blames Miguel. She wants to tell the police.

Eladio and Julia are kissing on their bed, when he stops and she questions what's wrong. He claims that he has alot of problems and he has made some bad choices in the past. He says that he doesn't deserve her love. Julia tells him that she loves him and he is the only man that deserves her love. He is actually feeling guilty!!!

On their wedding night, Gaby is telling like crap. She needs time. Franco hopes it's not alot of time because if she wants to be happy, then things need to stay the same. He goes in for a kiss, but she tells him, "Not now."

The cops come to question Miguel about the attempt on Erick's life. Someone (NINA) has accused him of being the guilty party.

Clara tells Connie that Miguel called to tell them about the brakes being messed with on Erick's car. Connie is impactada. Nina rings the doorbell. She comes in and accuses Connie for Erick's accident, saying that she caused a fight between Miguel and Erick, and that Connie's lover (Miguel) caused the accident.

Miguel denies being a part of the accident. Auggie vouches for Miguel. The cops want him to go give an official statement.

Nina tells Connie that if she weren't preggers she would have done away with her already. Connie tells her to calm down. She tells Nina that she is not Miguel's lover and has never cheated on Erick like he did to her. Nina breaks down. Connie comforts her. Nina wants the person responsible to rot in jail.

Dani tells Eladio she is ready to go back to work. She also tells him about Erick's accident not being an accident.

Eladio goes to see Art at GM. He wants to help Art find out who made the attempt on Erick's life.

Angeles calls Franco to tell him that Erick's accident was not an accident and that the police are investigating.

Dani told Eladio what's going on. Eladio knows the owner of the buildings where Erick was and he can have access to the video surveillance to find the guilty party.

Franco tells Angeles to keep him informed about the police investigation. She tells him that Eladio is there, but she does not know why.

Art wants to know what Eladio wants in exchange. Eladio says he is just there to help. Art should be focusing on his son. They should leave their differences aside.

Franco gets a call from Callao and has to leave. He tells Gaby that it's an emergency and he won't be long.

Dani told Eladio that Nina suspects that Miguel is the guilty one. Art knows that Miguel is not guilty. Does Erick have enemies asks Eladio. Art says yes, you and your Godson. Art kind of takes it back, but still doesn't know who it could have been. Eladio hopes that the tapes will help and leaves the office. Art calls the cops to tell them that he can get a hold of the tapes sooner than they can.

Miguel has finished giving his statement. Auggie hopes that he didn't sign his death sentence. Miguel knows he didn't do it, and he is only concerned what his father, Regina and Connie think.

Franco shows up at GLA. Marintia is not at work. Caridad says Marintia was not feeling well. She tries to convince Franco to take responsibility for his child. Franco tells her that there is no child because Marintia got rid of it. He tells her not to tell Gaby what happened.

Connie and Gina talk over the phone. Connie is sure that Miguel is innocent. She asks Gina to watch over her brother because she can't. They hang up and Jorge comes up to Gina and tries to cheer her up. He asks her for a smile, and just then David comes into the picture. Jorge tells them that the electricians are there. They take off, but Jorge doesn't look too happy.

Franco meets with Callao in his office. Callao is sure that Franco had something to do with Erick's accident.

Gina is feeling guilty about being happy with David in Monterrey, while her family is suffering. David tells her that being happy is fine. That way she can offer support to her family.

Callao wants to know why Franco didn't turn in the thug from the other day that was ordered to beat him up, by way of Erick. Franco lies and says he only wanted to know if it was Erick that gave the order for the beat down. Callao tells him that there is surveillance video of the night of the crash, and that his padrino asked for the video.

Clara and Miguel Talk. He wants to make sure that Connie knows the truth. Clara reassures him that they believe in him. She says that after this, she can no longer give Messages to Connie on his behalf.

Franco goes to see Eladio in his office. Franco tells him that he found out that Erick's accident was an attempt on his life. Eladio tells him that he offered his help to Art, but that he changed his mind and will no longer help him with the tapes. Franco breathes a sigh of relief. Eladio gets a call telling him that Art got a hold of the tapes from a court order. Franco looks worried.

Auggie and one of the cops show up at Art's office with the video surveillance. They watch the video and the cop asks if the man on the tape is Miguel. Art says No.

Franco is pacing back and forth in Eladio's office. Eladio wants to know what's wrong. Franco says he's nervous about Gaby blabbing the truth to Julia. Franco takes off. Eladio has Callao come in. He asks him if he knows why Franco is acting so nervous about Erick's accident.

While watching the video, the cop in Art's office says that Miguel is still a suspect because it could have been a crime of passion. Art just wants to find out who the guy in the video is.

Franco calls the thug and tells him the cops are investigating and to get out of town.

The cop informs Art that Miguel is suspect number one because he could have paid the man in the video to mess with the brakes.

Franco visits Marintia to make sure she got rid of the baby. He tells her about the police investigation. The thug calls Franco and asks him for money to leave town.

In Art's office, Nina, Dani and Connie talk about the police investigation. Nina and Dani start blaming Connie for everything. Connie puts Nina and Dani in check when she says that now they talk about Miguel being Erick's brother, when before they called him a bastard. Art wants them to stop fighting.

Aunty Ann, this was great. Way more than short and sweet. Thanks

I missed a good chunk last night, but seems it was mainly the "let's blame Miguel" show last night, which I knew was going to happen. Whatever. Typical TN plot.

But was surprised about the sudden fast forwards. One minute you think cops and apparently Art who must have opened his own police force since a court gave HIM the tapes and not the police...PLEASE!!! And then, voila, nothing happens and everyone is moving right along and we are six months down the road. I'm still scraping beanie off the walls.

Side note: I hate mermaid dresses. With her figure, c'mon, Gaby could have a better wedding dress than that. Better not have been the final choice....better not actually have a church wedding.

Daisynjay

Thanks Aunty Ann. I loved your italics on Eladio is actually feeling guilty! Is our rough and ready Pinocchio actually growing a conscience!? Time will tell.

Daisynjay..."I'm still scraping beanie off the walls". Yikes! what a picture. Well, we telenovela vets are familiar with the phenom. And on we go.

Have a great day everyone. And thanks again, Aunty Ann.

Thank you Aunty Ann :)

1.) Last night was the "Let's Blame Miguel Show".

2.) Consuelo was right about calling out Purple Lips & Daniela!

3.) Arturo looks like he's about to have an aneurysm with all the stress he's been getting from all sides!

4.) Gaby: Tsk, tsk, tsk. You want to be Julia 2.0 ?: Good luck on the wedding night!

5.) Marinita better pray Callao doesn't find her & kill her & the baby.

6.) Does anyone know who's Callao's kid ?

7.) Where is Francisco ?

8.) Jorge could be working for either Eladio, Purple Lips or maybe Daniela to bust up Regina & David!

9.) Arturo hugging Counselo's stomach was awesome!

thanks, Aunty Ann. That recap nicely covered everything that happened. I especially appreciated the rundown of the 6 months .

Yikes. .I do not know what I would have done\thought if my father in-law had kissed my baby bump. Geez. That seemed creepy to me. Worse than complete strangers reaching out to pat it. HEY , buddy, that's my actual stomach surrounding that baby. ..hands off......personal space .

I get a big kick out of Hotladio in his white buttoned up dress shirt cuddling in bed with Julia in her cocktail dress and jewelry. Lock the door and get comfy. Geez.

Thank You Aunty Ann Mucho Appreciated.

I believe last night we were given an unvarnished peek into what growing up was like for Miguel. Always second class, red headed stepchild, guilty until proven innocent and no support from the Father. I still say Purple Lips is a glorified hooker. What she passed off all these years for child rearing was NOT. Nina's Yaya must be out of this world, as Arturo did not tire of her only apparent redeeming asset for 25 years !

WOW ! Who bumped the cruise control button? Everything in TN World froze except the calendar. Oh, and two little yet to be birthed Bambinos. Are we to believe more than a six month gap between Gabi's Civil ceremony and her actual church wedding?

Thanks so much, AuntyAnn!

Finally, a time jump, and two babies about to be born. I guess that although Miguel is still suspect #1, there isn't enough evidence to throw him in jail while the cops try to track down the assassin. Wonder where Franco got the money to pay the guy enough to disappear?

I'm surprised Eladio didn't first think that Franco could be behind the attempt on Erick.

Yes, Eladio actually feeling guilty about deceiving Julia was a huge step. Well, now that they've had the better part of a year as a blissfully happy couple, it's time for that to blow up. Bring it on, writers.

I'm sure the baby bomb will also explode on Gaby before she and Franco have their delayed church wedding.

Nina and Art must have reached the 25 year mark by now, right? Or very close now.

Thanks for the wonderful recap!

So Nina is giving Eric physical therapy in her couture dresses, wonderful!

Steve, I've been thinking about who Callao's kid could be and I was wondering if it could be Consuelo?

Poor Miguel, one bad off-handed comment at a low moment and now you are prime suspect number 1.

Dani looks like she is getting what she wants, notoriety.

Franco is an idiot. He wants to be Eladio but he is way too stupid.

I wish Eladio would tell Julia the truth about Franco but after years of being miserable I can understand why he doesn't want the happy train to go off track after 7, 8 months.

AuntyAnn--Not short, but very, very sweet. It seemed like: he told her, she told him, they told each other, they told her, she told her for him, he told him, Yikes. This was a new version of playing Telephone. Thank you for keeping it all straight.

Color me purple, but this is the FIRST time in tn history (for me) that someone shouting after someone leaving a room actually followed, caught up with, grabbed and made her listen to him. Go, Eladio!!

Carvivlie--In some earlier episode, Callao thanked Eladio for saving his daughter. I think he knows who his daughter is. But stranger things have happened in these stories.

Vivi--Franco may have some change left after he bought his Yellow car. If he still has shares, he's earning income from them.

Steve--I don't think Francisco is coming back. We heard Clara say she doesn't miss him as much as she thought she would. He's probably signed up for a better paying job at Televisa. Either that or they didn't like him but didn't want to kill him off.

One thing that wasn't mentioned in the last scene was Julia telling Eladio that the therapy has been working. I wonder if they ever started couples therapy.

Poor Miguel, he just can't catch a break. If he didn't actually cut the brakes, he paid the dude who did.

I thought it was interesting that in the Time Jump, Franco was the only main character that did not have his own cameo. He was only seen briefly standing behind Daniela as she signed autographs. Can't wait to see what he's been up to in these six months.

Carvivlie: Now that would be a good twist!

Vivi: If you thought that Miguel being treated like crap by Purple Lips was something, try ABS-CBN's "And I Love You So", where Katrina Valdez convinces her daughter, Trixie to bully Joanna at school!

Vivi: Franco probably got the money to pay off 'beatdown giver/brake line cutter' the same place as the money to buy his (now invisible) pretty yellow car. Casting must have just rented it for a day. The other day he sent Car-I-Dad to get a big pile of money too. I believe it was inferred that it was for the abortion. Caridad asked something like "Why such a large sum?" and of course Mr. Sugar and Spice told her to just do as she is told and shut the ...up.

So we have pranced blithely along for 6 months and nothing has changed except a couple belly sizes? The brake line cutting investigation has presumably stalled. Miggy is still free, and Chimp Boy is still pooping in his drawers and peeing in a bedpan. Ducky. I just hope this was to give time for Francoito and Chimpito to make their appearances and start Armageddon.

The situation with Callao caught me by surprise. Up until now, he has just been a human-size bottle of pest spray. Then he suddenly starts thinking and tells Eladio something does not smell right? I also wonder why they planted that seed about Eladio saving his daughter's life. Stay tuned.

Anita, it was Franco who paid the brake line cutter fellow, the same one who beat him up earlier at the request of Erik.

thanks, Aunty Ann.

Perhaps, Eladio gave the guy his taxicab yellow car.

Gracias, AuntyAnn.

So we finally get the time jump, but that was necessary to speed through the two pregnancies and the time left on the pending divorce.

-- Erick is still in a coma. Too bad that didn't keep him out of the next 20 episodes.
-- Arturo is still dreaming of Julia, but we expected that.
-- Gaby still hasn't told Julia, which doesn't feel right vis a vis her character and only makes the Franco + ElDaddio reveal work even better
-- Eladio saw Marintia have morning sickness. It's not like him to not do the math.
-- Angeles is still employed at GM, so she hasn't slipped up yet. That makes her smarter than her paymaster.
-- Nina trying to give Ape Child his therapy in a designer dress. No reputable hospital would allow that.
-- Daniela hasn't screwed up, which is also out of character.
-- Gaby and Franco are still about to have the church ceremony? They must have patched things up and moved.

The biggest thing missing and not referenced is whether Humberto got sent back to Shady Pines. When Eladio and Gabriela had the one on one I kept wondering whether Humberto would roll in silently and hear the argument. You'd think Eladio would have insisted on having this conversation behind a closed door.

More in my next post.

Not Eladio...I meant that dolt of an offspring Franco.

Now for Callao...

We don't know when Eladio saved his daughter's life or what that entailed. How old is she now? We don't know what relationship exists between Callao and the mother of that girl, as nothing about this has ever been said.

Could Clara be that girl and Angeles be her mother? The ages all look right.

We know nothing about Angeles other than she has been Arturo's secretary for long enough for him to think he can trust her. How long has she been betraying him? Is there any relationship between her and El Callao at the moment? Were they ever married? Was she once a hooker at the same brothel Consuelo was rescued from?

Too many questions about our Luca Brasi Lite.

Kirby--I know who paid to cut the brakes on Erick's car. Nina has everyone convinced that Miguel paid the dude to do it. That's why I said what I did. Even if Miguel has an airtight alibi, which he did, he's still going to be blamed for it, one way or another, by Nina.

AuntyAnn---Great job for being in a rush. Looks like you hit all the points.

Bruja Nina was on her broomstick flying high last night accusing both Consuelo and Miguel for Erick's current condition. And aided by daughter bruja Daniela, I might add.

Urban---I guess that you called it. Gaby will keep quiet for Julia's sake. Well for now anyway. We'll see what happens.

Pretty boy if feeling the pressure. If the hit man gets out of town and isn't found
pretty boy is safe. But then there's Marintia. Pretty boy is in a heap of trouble.

Nina tells Connie that if she wasn't preggers, she Nina would have done away with her already. Consuelo fights back---YEAH!!!

Carvivlie---Franco wants to be Eladio but he is way too stupid. Agreed. Pretty boy is on his way out and it will be too bad for Gaby.

must see tv
the gringo

Fantastic AuntyAnn.

I am surprised Gaby didn't tell Julia. I wish I could think of a kinder word but it is betrayal. Eladio put the guilt squarely on her by saying she would ruin Julia's life if she talked. However devastated Julia will be when she finds out Eladio's machinations, she will be crushed by Gaby's silence.

I was also shocked by Marintia's silence. I wonder if she will keep the secret once the child is born. Gaby is in for quite a revelation herself once she sees what her not so adoring husband has done.

More lies that will tear the family apart. This is why I can't get behind Eladio. He is going to ruin his family and Gaby's. What a shambles.

Diana

Thanks, AuntyAnn. Always fun reading your recaps.

Connie was so impassioned standing up for Miguel that I'm now a believer in her brother swap. She made perfect sense on why Miguel doesn't consider Erick (or Nina) family.

Many thanks for a great recap AuntyAnn! It was more sweet than it was short: lots of details and funny asides for us to enjoy! :)

It's tea time here and I can't play on the Patio for too long. Just a few thoughts:

-- Damn you hooker bride, you had one job! Stupid Gabi squeezes out a few tears to clear her conscience then merrily goes on with her stupid life, mooching off her aunt and uncle and preparing her religious wedding to her slimy lying bastard (in the figurative sense) of a fiancé!

-- This was Eladio's chance to come clean and the numpty head missed it! He should've dispatched Hummy to the nursing home, sent the newlyweds to their honeymoon, given the help a leave and told Julia the entire truth! No fuss, no muss, no introductions: Just get down on his knees, confess everything, beg for forgiveness and hope to God Julia doesn't scratch his eyes out! They would have had the whole house to themselves to battle it out and, more importantly, figure out a way to break the news to David. The most delicate thing for both of them will be telling David. The couple's relationship is something that belongs only to them and it may or may not survive a deception of this magnitude but their relationship with their child is the one in most need to be salvaged in the aftermath of such a dangerous revelation.
I maintain that it's not so much that Eladio's affair resulted in a child that's the crime here, after all there was no marriage between Julia and Eladio at the time. What's unforgivable here, in my humble opinion, is the fact that Eladio made Julia raise his out-of-wedlock child without her prior knowledge or approval. This was compounded by the intricate web of lies Eladio maintained for over 20 years to keep Julia from finding out and when she discovers the truth, she is gonna go medieval on his lying behind!

-- I, for one, was grateful they did a time jump. No point stalling things with two pregnancies and a bunch of fireworks waiting to go off every which way. I say keep this baby cruising along at a brisk pace!

-- After a gestation period of 26 months, it appears that, finally, Consuelo and Chimp Boy are gonna have their little Koko! Enhorabuena!

-- I felt like that last scene was teasing both the viewers and the happy couple smooching onscreen. It's like there's an accident in slow motion and we just can't look away. Tomorrow, we'll find out whether "the miracle of love" and the "power of forgiveness" are as miraculous and powerful as Cluesless Julia thinks!
(P.S. Julia did mention that therapy had been helping them a lot but I don't think the couple have "graduated" to joint therapy sessions yet. Eladio's therapist would not have allowed it giving the sheer volume of issues his patient suffers from, not to mention that ginormous lie he won't fess up to.)

Hopefully, more later.

Anita. Oops. Thought you missed an episode. My bad

Nan: after all there was no marriage between Julia and Eladio at the time. What's unforgivable here, in my humble opinion, is the

HUH?

Nandicta. I thought that subject had been beaten to death here that CarIdad was fooling with a married man. But then I miss a lot too.

Urban: You're saying Angeles maybe Clara's mother ?

WOW! That's an interesting twist IF that's ever revealed.

I noticed that both have blonde hair, so all we need is Maury Povich to settle this stuff out!

Urban--
Since Callao is the most trusted goon/henchman/doer of bad deeds for Eladio and Angeles has been Arturo's trusted/only recently bought by Franco executive secretary, I don't see how or when they ever would have met. Do you know something we don't?

Sometimes we get orphans in tns just so the producers don't have to hire a whole family or explain their absence or presence. Maybe that's all it means. It hasn't really been brought up again and again, showing Clara dying to know who her parents are and starting a search.

I'm willing to leave her an orphan of no known parentage but will be happily surprised if she locates them. If they are among our resident characters, she'd probably be better off without them.

No matter how much these two denizens of industry spout their love to kids, or spouses or wannabe spouses, the fact of the matter is everything they do or say is done in the perception of what works best for them, their opinion only counts and making sure they still look good to the public and stupid construction industry they belong too. That's why all the secrets, that's why they make their kids do the very things they wouldn't do themselves (or are doing) and it goes on.

Honestly, if Art and Eladio both go down in those nice red flames from the credits, they deserve it. I just can't buy sympathy for either one.

Daisynjay

No, Anita; i'm just speculating.

The biggest issue I'm having with this series -- and other recent ones -- is that the writers are leaving too many options open to deal with later at their convenience subject either to actor availability or to the whims of the public. No way in the world would someone like Eladio make this change in himself at that age after a lifetime of being an abusive SOB. No way would an emotional man like Arturo have the chance to moon over his Great Love for 25 years without seeing her face to face when she's married to his main competitor and they both live in the same city. They should have been running into each other at industry events and upper-crusty charity balls, like the one in Episode 18. The latter is an old cliche, the former maybe not so old.

History will repeat itself in TNs, as in life.

Franco might do what Eladio is probably wishing he had done, which is to off Marintia. I'm not sure if she's smart enough to really foresee that. As Nandicta said, Eladio has to hope that when the shit hits the fan Julia won't scratch his eyes out. I hope she doesn't. I hope she calls a good divorce lawyer and takes him to the cleaners. That could lead to an investigation into his company and past dirty deals which would reduce her payout but would be appropriate karma for him.

Daisy, there is a long-ago enacted TN law that there will always be a parade of bridal gowns on the way to any wedding. Every designer in Mexico hoping to dethrone Vera Wang probably competes for the chance to get a dress into a series.

Urban. Thank You. "The biggest issue I'm having with this series --" We car guys also know that beginning in the 70s all manufacturers worldwide began putting in 'dual' braking systems, so that one single failure (a ruptured/cut brake line) could not disable the brakes on even a Corolla, much less a Ferrari. In that event you still have brakes on two wheels not to mention all the flashing lights and screaming buzzers in the dash. Knowledge is a horrible thing. I just pretend not to know so I can enjoy the show.

-- Kirbo: I meant that there was no marriage between Julia and Eladio at the time of his affair with Caridad; no marriage other than a paper marriage.

* From Eladio's perspective: He approached and courted Julia after her breakup with her cheating fiancé and he married her thinking he had conquered her love, only to find out she was still in love with her old flame (we know this from his conversation to David in the hospital during Julia's coma). He discovers that Arturo visited Julia in her house a few weeks before they got married and supposes that they slept together (Humberto backed up this version and may have been the one to tell him about Arturo's visit/ nookie time with Julia in the first place. We know this from the first time we saw Eladio visit Humberto in the nursing home). This suspicion coupled with Julia's rejection on their wedding night (booze may or may not have been involved, but since we know Eladio hits the bottle when he gets upset, it is a possibility), lead to Eladio raping his wife on their wedding night. This grave incident understandably creates a huge rift between the spouses. Julia falls pregnant. Eladio thinks the baby is Arturo's. Jealousy, accusations, humiliation at being cuckolded, rejection from Julia ==> Broken marriage. He continued living under the same roof as his wife only to keep up appearances and to avoid the scandal of Julia hooking up with his rival to make his humiliation complete (not to mention public).

* From Julia's perspective: She married Eladio partly out of spite and partly to save her family from financial ruin. She said she had affection for Eladio during their courtship because he was "serious", "hardworking" and "handsome" (She said this to Gabi during an early conversation in Julia's bedroom, way at the beginning of the TN and used the words "serio", "trabajador" and "apuesto" to describe the Eladio she first met). Another time at the foundation, the day after Julia and Eladio fell asleep in an embrace, about 10 episodes ago or so, Julia tells Gabi that it was great for her and Eladio to just lie there together hugging and relaxing. Gabi says that she can't imagine her uncle as relaxed and Julia replies that this is how Eladio was before they got married. He was also affectionate and harboring high hopes about their marriage ("cariñoso" and "ilusionado"). These bits and pieces in past conversations indicate to me that Julia had a genuine hope that she could learn to love Eladio after marriage but Arturo's visit to her before her wedding combined with Eladio's crazy jealousy and the rape she endured on her wedding night destroyed her chances at happiness from the get-go. Falling pregnant as a result of rape must have been very painful, especially given the constant accusations that her baby was Arturo's. Humiliation, distress, physical imprisonment, emotional torture, fear and repulsion towards Eladio ==> Broken marriage. She continued living under the same roof as her husband to avoid the scandal of being labelled an adulterer, to continue supporting her family economically and to secure her son's financial future at his father's side. I would imagine that this last aspect was especially important to Julia considering that her misfortune started precisely because her family lost all their money.

(to be continued in next post)

(Cont.)

* From Caridad's perspective: She became Eladio's mistress because she fell in love with a broken man who would cry to her time an again about his wife who married him while loving another man, who humiliated him with her contempt and rejection, and who cuckolded him then got pregnant with his rival's baby, which he must now register as his own to avoid scandal (We know these details from the various reproaches Caridad made Eladio about having lied to her at that time in order to get inside her pants). ==> Broken marriage before Caridad was even in the picture. She fell in love with the man and figured maybe he could choose her over his (according to him) terrible cheating wife. Caridad gets pregnant, perhaps on purpose to give Eladio a nudge to abandon the awful wife and play happy families with her. Caridad turns out to be wrong because Eladio is obsessively hanging on to his broken marriage and has no interest in starting over with her and their baby. He tells her this breaks their agreement as lovers and that he doesn't want her baby. She gives him a few choice insults and tells him she doesn't want to see him again in her life (we know this because when Caridad went looking for Franco at GLA after getting out of prison, she bumped into Eladio and he told her: "Didn't you tell me the last time we saw each other that you didn't want to see me again as long as you live?"). Then about 4 years after Caridad leaves Eladio, Gisela comes looking for him with a toddler in her arms and tells him that this is his son and that Caridad went to prison for murder. (We know this from 2 conversations, one between Eladio and Gisela and the other between Eladio and Franco). P.S. I wonder if Eladio asked for a DNA test then?

In light of these elements, I feel that all 3 aforementioned characters had a hand to play in the circumstances that led to the affair that let to Franco being born. However, bringing a toddler Franco into the house to be raised by an unsuspecting Julia, then the astonishingly disgusting amount of lies that ensued to cover the truth about Franco's origin for 20 years, is exclusively and entirely Eladio's fault.

Nandicta- And don't forget that Eladio demanded that Caridad get an abortion and thought she had, until Gisela shows up years later with a toddler in her arms.

-- Vivi: You're absolutely right, Vivi. Eladio demanded an abortion of Caridad's baby but he didn't follow through to see whether the abortion happened or not. At the time, he was already a rich entrepreneur (definitely way richer than Gisela and Caridad were) but not nearly as rich as present day Eladio. And judging from an accusation he made Gisela once about her trying to sell her daughter to him, I assume that Gisela was squeezing money out of him the entire time he was having an affair with her daughter. I wouldn't be surprised if she were the one to push Caridad on him or convince her to accept his advances (We have no elements to tell for sure who seduced whom.)

P.S. I miss Gisela! Imagine all the fun we could've had with trying to move into the mansion as Franco's grandmother!

Urban--I was just teasing you a bit. You wouldn't post a spoiler--ever. Speculation is such fun, no?

Auntyann, thank you for this enlightenimg
Recap.
"He is actually feeling guilty!!!!!" Well hes got alot to feel guilty about. And all that therapy
He is getting, is he real in it? I don't believe so. Just living a lie, and hes trying to have a
Good life with that lie sittin on his shoulder. I
Hope he changes for the sake of his wife.
Cuz I really think she wants the union to work. And they "LOOK" so happy.

I do not believe art loves juls. I think he is
Obsessed, and just want what he can't have.
Just lookin at her picture with that weird look
On his face. Hes got enough going on in his
Disfunctional messed up family. At least Mr Eladio Is trying to fake fix his marriege.....I hope he Moves It from fake to Gettin real about his wife and his own life, cuz Its a hot messy mess.

Franco, he is nastily evil. And moma is trying
Help him, shes not doing a very good job of it. She wants him to be good but Already his fathers mojo is workin in him. He Got another woman knocked up just like dear Ol dad. And He's Livin a lie just like daddy eladio. Only franco wasn't married, yet the lie is there.

Im glad marintia kept the baby. Maybe........... somewhere down the line franco will see the
Mess hes turning into.....or he Is already turned into. look what he did to a young man
Thats as screwed up as he is (Erick). And then how he treats the woman he claims to love (gaby). And she's falling into it just like
Aunty julieta. History repeating itself. Thats
How mess is passed down from generation
To generation.but lucky for us this is a telenovela and this means hopefully the bad will change to good and the good will keep being good and.........well this is a tn and like I said we'll see.

Thanks again AuntyAnn.

Nandicta, Urban, Anita, Nina, Vivi. I feel so shallow. I thought I was just watching this for the cute girls. Now half of em are preggers. RATS. :-)

Yeah thats right, dad wanted cari to get an abortion too. Its almost happening in the same steps. Generational messes. I like what
I saw in the advances but I wont say incase
Yall didn't see what I saw. We can all see it
Together tonite. At least on the east coast. U
Guys in the middle & on the west coast later
Or earlier, however that works.

Somebody once said that women are most
Sexiest when they're preggers. I think that
Only works when shes preggers for the guy
Who thinks she sexy.

Sorry kirbo :-(

That's why the time jump. Both Marintia and Connie will give birth within the next two episodes, I'm betting. Barely any time the audience has to see either of them wearing a baby belly.

I have wondered on and off whether Franco has the capacity to love or whether he bought the line about "to rule the world one must forswear love forever." I'm still debating this.

Eladio loves the idea of Julia. She is unsnobbish, genuine in her efforts to help the less fortunate, beautiful, refined, and educated. Does he truly love her, though? If so he should be imploding right now because of the 25 years of abuse he has heaped on her with her father's blessing.

Arturo loves his memories of Julia, which have come front and center just when he was starting to see how shallow and vapid Nina really is. Remember that in the opening episode she was coming onto him to buy her a new car only three months after he had already done so. She continued about this for several episodes. This coincided with the escalated conflict between Regina and Daniela, whom anyone could see are like night and day. Nina never takes Regina's issues seriously and always backs Daniela. Arturo could have begun thinking that Julia would never do such things had she been the mother of his children.

There is also the possible issue of wanting to be back at that time of life when disillusion hasn't yet set in. You can't go home again and you can't fix the past. All you can do is make sure the future is acceptable to you.

That David is capable of love all comes from Julia. That Regina is capable of love comes from Arturo. If Franco has any real capacity for love it's from Julia, but we don't know how much of it could have been erased by Eladio. Miguel has issues and only he can fix those now. Erick (if he survives) and Daniela are selfish brats who can fix their issues but only if they want to.

Nina is a narcissistic mess and we don't know all the reasons. We know she grew up poor but we still don't know what it is she is truly ashamed of. I have previously speculated on her possibly having been a hooker and/or given up a child for adoption. Maybe she was abused and someone began blaming her. I wish the writers would explain this. I wonder what the actress thinks of this and whether the network will ever allow her to tell this in an interview (after the series ends, of course).

-- Kirbo: Hahaha. Please don't feel bad, I do my fair share of shameless ogling on this show, trust me! Regina, Clara and Daniela are very attractive (from a strictly physical point of view. Personalities are a whole other ballpark) and they're not pregnant... yet! Otherwise, you got the timeless graceful beauty that is SG. Just like you, I've been in love with her way longer than Eladio.

-- UA: Both Eladio and Arturo are in love with the idea of Julia, with this idealized image that they created in their mind and worshipped in the most fanatic and destructive of ways. Moreover, they are both consumed by guilt for the hurt they inflicted upon her, they both feel undeserving of her love and they both want their chance to dedicate their lives to compensating her for the painful past and for making her happy. However, not one of them pauses for a second to consider that Julia's best bet at being happy is AWAY from BOTH of them.

The more I consider this triangle of unrequited love, shattered hopes and betrayal, the more they make me think of this song called, "Encadenados" ("Chained")
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-CCy57cfoo (the lyrics in Spanish are contained in this video. I'll try to post a translation a wee bit later for those who might need it).

Nina the Witch showed her true colors last night when she told Connie that if she was not carrying her (Nina's) grandson she would (in essence) kill her. Fruit does not fall far from the tree, right Chimp Chump?

As is apparent from seeing any TV show concerning entertainers, money and fame cover a multitude of sins. I wonder how long it will hold up for Daniela. Hopefully it will give her life some needed direction rather than hasten her slide into self destruction. She is young, smart, and pretty, and although severely damaged by her Mother, she is still young enough to undo most of it.

I'm just shocked that nothing more than the undercover action kept Art in the nest for all those years. Like I said, must be some Yaya to write home about.......
k

Nandita I agree about Art, Elad, Juls.

“If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it was, and always will be yours. If it never returns, it was never yours to begin with.”

Sherrilyn Kenyon

I know for sure this is true. :(

Kirbo, can we stop those kind of remarks? It's really becoming tiresome.

Nandicta...thanks for that marvelous youtube Luis Miguel song. I have never heard that one, but it's lovely, apt...and goodness knows the man can deliver a song! What beautiful phrasing and diction.

You are very different in style from our dear, departed, folksy Mads...but you bring the same love of music and seemingly the same encyclopedic knowledge. Thanks for all you contribute to the blog.

So nina thinks that her son is the best any woman could have. Hes the mail version of
Her. Really into themselves.
No ones good enough for her precious little
Numnut. What attracked connie to this hell
On two feet? What a messed up mess.

I hope you're right about Marinita giving birth to the baby she's carrying because I sadly do NOT see her being among the living!

Right Steve, Sometimes I think that Franco is waymore evil than Elodio. But I dont know for certain, I still dont trust Elio 100%. When I see him all nice with Julia I like what I see.

Has anyone noticed that history seems to be repeating with Franco, wouldnt it be something if he was alone w Elio and Elio suffers heart attack. Not wishing at all, just wondering. Anyways Franco would not be his only heir, theres David.
Btw, I love it when Eloadio says "timing....timing".
