Pasion y Poder #110, Wednesday, March 23, 2016

Lo Nuevo

At GLA Nina and Eladio make a lunch date. They will meet later. Nina leaves. Caridad does not think it's a good idea for Eladio to go to lunch with Nina because she's jealous. Eladio tells her to keep her mouth shut and get back to work.

Julia and Art conversation:

Julia: "Let's see Arturo, do you remember that I told you I needed space? And you agreed to give it to me?"

Art: "Yes, it's just that I know that you love me...you love me."

Julia: "I told you to look for your happiness, but you did not want to listen to me, you did not want to understand how things are, the way I was explaining things to you."

Art: "But how are things, for Christs' sake? Nothing stands in our way of being together...of being happy."

Julia: "What stands in our way (of being together) is ME. Do you understand me?"

Art: "What are you afraid of?"

Julia: "Please don't insist. Respect what I am saying to you. "

Art: "Are you worried about what people will say?"

Julia: "What people say is not important to me. I could care less about what people say. The only thing that is important is what my son says, and what I think of myself."

Art: "David is an adult."

Julia: "Again, you are not listening to me. I need time. Please...time. You need time as well. You can't end one relationship and start another one like it was nothing."

Art: "For Christs' sake, I left Nina a long time ago for your love, for what I feel for you. Now I listen to you and you sound like a different person. "

Julia: "Maybe I am. Look Arturo, believe me, if you just got divorced you shouldn't be with me or anyone else."

Art: "Anyone else is not important to me. I love you. You are the only one that's important to me."

Julia: "I assure you that if I accepted to have a relationship with you right now, it would not be pretty. It would not work. We wouldn't be able to enjoy it."

Art: "Were you deceiving me all this time? You made fun of me? You lied to me all this time?"

Julia: "What's wrong with you? Why are you talking to me like that?"

Art: "I have given up everything for you. For the love I feel for you and you are not being honest with me. All this time you had me thinking you were Eladio's victim. Then you tell me that you love him. For Christs' sake stop playing around."

Julia: "I am not playing around. I am not playing around with anyone. Not with you, or with me, or with Eladio, or anyone. Now I am asking you to please leave before you say something you might regret."

Art: "I'm sorry, I'm sorry Julia. I just want to be with you. Nothing more. I had it in my head that when I signed the divorce papers you and I would be together."

Julia: "I understand, but please...in this moment you are free. You are free to decide what you want to do with your life. But please listen to me. You need to be alone. Please, let's be prudent (cautious). You, be prudent. Do you know what I wish for you? I think the first thing you need to do is recuperate your relationship with your children."

Julia then leaves and Art is left looking up to the sky as if asking "WTH?"

Eladio and Nina have lunch at a fancy restaurant. They talk about business while a photographer hides behind some plants and takes pictures of them (for TMZ). Eladio tells Nina about his abused childhood. She tells him that she too grew up poor and sometimes comes off as a golddigger because she is afraid of being poor and again and having her children (who are grown adults) suffer. She thinks that they have alot in common. Eladio excuses himself from the table, then we see the photographer from TMZ give Nina a thumbs up! Hmmmm....Nina calls Fanny. She tells Fanny to tell her daughter to publish the photos in this weeks' paper. She wants Julia and Art to see them. She thanks Fanny. Eladio comes back to the table and they say their goodbyes.

Gaby comes out of the doctors office crying. Franco is late and apologizes for not arriving in time. She's going to start a treatment, but her chances of getting pregnant are only 5%. Franco says in the meantime has made an appointment for her at a clinic in San Diego. He can't go with her so she wants to wait til he is free from work. But he tells her it's impossible to get away from work, plus it's really hard to get an appointment at that clinic. She will have to go alone. He leaves her standing outside the building.

Over the phone, Art tells Hummy that he's going to postpone the Vegas trip because Hummy is not helping him. Hummy begs him not to can cel the trip. Art tells him that Julia blew him off today. Hummy needs to do his job and help him get Julia. Hummy tells him not to worry.

Gaby is sitting alone outside the medical building when by coincidence Auggie walks by. She tells him why she's there and what's been going on with her. She says that Franco is not supporting her like he should. Auggie gives her a hug. She apologizes for telling him her personal business. He tells her that he will always be there as a friend. They say good bye.

In Cozumel, Dani and David talk about their evening plans. A massage and to turn in early. She needs to get rest for the photoshoot in the morning.

Regina and Jorge are eating in a street corner of the city. Regina accidently mentions David's name and apologizes. Jorge says he understands that she can't forget him from one day to the next. She changes the subject and they take a selfie.

Lulis shows up at GM in Art's office. Miguel comes in and she says hello then leaves. Art and Miguel wonder where Erick is. Miguel leaves the office. Art calls Erick's cell, but there is no answer.

Erick is at home asleep. Nina walks into his bedroom with the baby and asks why he is still asleep. He says he had a late night. Nina is sick and tired of his attitude. She says it's one thing to support him making Connie's life miserable, but it's another that he doesn't even pay attention to the baby. Erick just begs her to let him sleep in peace. Nina calls for Samantha. Petra takes the baby. Nina tells her to put the baby down for a nap, then call the locksmith. She wants all the locks changed. Nina tells Erick to listen. There is a new judge for Connie's appeal, and Nina does not know him, plus he is known for not being corrupt. Erick is not worried about Connie. Nina tells him he needs to take care of Erick, jr, but he says that's what his mother and sisters are for. DIE, ERICK, DIE!!! Nina can't believe what an asshat (Thanks Susanlynn) she has raised. She warns him. One more thing that he does wrong and he'll know what it's like to live without her help.

Miguel calls Connie. He's worried about her. She lies when he asks if Erick has gone to see her. She tells him not to come over. They will talk later.

Dani and David are about to get a massage when David has a flashback about Regina. They go outside and get their massages.

Regina and Jorge get back to the Montenegro mansion. They make out in the foyer.

Miguel shows up at the mansion and begs Nina to let Connie see the baby. He is worried that she might do something stupid. Nina refuses. Miguel tells her he will give her anything, even the Montenegro properties that are in his name and his company shares.

Caridad comes to bother Eladio in his office She asks how his lunch went then she talks about some trip that they took together a long time ago. She's daydreaming of that trip while Eladio is working at his desk.

Miguel comes into the house and interrupts Regina and Jorge's make-out session. He asks for Regina's help. He says he asked Nina to take the baby to Connie's apartment, but Nina's going to think about it. Miguel asks Regina to help him convince her mother. Regina says she will help.

Eladio is so into his work that he doesn't see when Caridad comes to the other side of his desk and goes in to kiss him. He backs away from her. She apologizes. She was thinking of the past. He tells her to not do it again. He escorts her to the other side of the desk and reminds her that he only loves Julia. She starts to cry.

Nina takes Erick, Jr to Connie's apartment. Connie thanks Nina for bringing him.

Franco comes into Eladio's office and Caridad leaves. Eladio tells Franco that he needs to talk with his mother. Eladio tells him that it's embarrassing that Caridad wants something with Eladio. He says the relationship he had years ago with Caridad was the biggest mistake of his life. Franco concludes that Eladio thinks that Franco was also a mistake. Eladio says that is not true. That when he told Julia he wish he could turn back time, he never considered not having him. Even though Franco may not believe it, Eladio is happy to have Franco is his life.

Erick comes into Art's office to give him the new proposal for the Maya project. According to Art it's horrible. Auggie comes into the office to announce that GLA's proposal offers a natural reserve if the building permits are taken away from Eladio and given to Eladio. Art is pissed and tells Erick that he better shape up or he will put him in a job where he can't make anymore mistakes.

Hummy and Julia have a talk about Eladio giving Franco his name. Julia says she will talk to Eladio about it first before she tells Hummy what her decision is on the matter. He starts to roll away but stops when he sees Gaby. He wants to know when they are going to dinner. She will let him know. Gaby tells Juia about her new treatment and about her appointment in San Diego. She tells her she will go to San Diego alone and depending on what they tell her, Franco might join her later.

Ashmore shows up at Art's office. Art tells him to talk to Auggie about business. Assmore knows that Art is having trouble with the Maya project and must be hiding something. Art's not hiding anything, he just can't believe that Assmore would try something with Dani. Assmore says that Art does not know his daughter. She is not the nice girl that he thinks she is. Art will not allow him to talk bad about Dani. Assmore says fine, but first he needs to tell Art that his daughter is the one that got close to him. She seduced him and slept with him in exchange for drugs. Art does not believe him even though Assmore has a photo of Dani on his phone. Art breaks the contract with Assmore and tells him he will kill him if he gets close to Dani again.

Franco goes to visit Marintia. He tells her he got rid of Gaby, so they go at it. The audience sees that apparently Marintia had no problems getting rid of the baby weight after giving birth.

Art asks Lulis where Dani went to. She only knows it was a beach. He tells Lulis to help him find her. She needs to be discreet if she's going to work for him. He wants to know if Dani does drugs. Lulis says not that she's aware of.

During pillow talk Marintia and Franco talk about their plans for the future. Franco says he doesn't care about being a Gomez Luna anymore. Soon he will have more money and power than Eladio. Marintia wants to register Mateo with Franco's last name. Franco agrees to register him as an Herrera.

Julia and Gaby talk in the home office. Julia tells her that she is going to ask Eladio to give Franco his last name and recognize him. She is doing it for Gaby. Gaby thanks her.

Erick is looking for Erick, Jr. Nina and Petra come in with the baby. Nina tells him she took the baby to see Connie. Erick is pissed. Only he can decide when Connie sees him. Nina wants Erick to be honest with her. What did he do to Connie because Nina saw her in really bad shape. Erick just ignores her. Nina looks concerned.

Justino and Clarita paint David's apartment. They talk about their future together.

The next day in Cozumel Dani has her photo shoot.

Back in the DF Eladio goes to see Marintia. He gives her the papers to health insurance for Mateo. She doesn't know to pay him back. He just wants her to keep her mouth shut about Franco being Mateo's father. He tells her not to tell anyone about the health insurance, not even Franco. She agrees. He tells her to take care of the baby.

Art goes to GLA to talk to Eladio. He insists on seeing him even though Caridad has told him that Eladio is not at the office. Art is super upset and wants to know where his daughter is. Caridad tells him that she can not give out that information. Art gets upset and it looks like he's about to have some kind if attack...

Thank you for another excellent recap, AuntyAnn. Much appreciated.

My LOL moment of the night was Caridad’s failed attempt to kiss-attack Eladio! His expression and the way he jumped behind his desk chair for cover were just priceless! He let her down gently but his eyes were screaming: “Hold your hormones, woman!”.

As much as I enjoy the Eladio character, I really hope he dies at the end a redeemed tragic hero, in an act of self-sacrifice to save his family. That way, he would atone for his many sins against the wife he emotionally mistreated and the son he neglected for years. Moreover, with him dead and irrevocably out of the picture, Julia can stop being so confundida and spare us the self-righteous angst. Alternatively, if Eladio turns into a desperate psycho killer and goes down in a blaze of insane glory taking down everything and everyone with him, I would be very happy with this scenario too but I fear the writers missed the boat on this one. Eladio should’ve gone mental when Julia went to his office to berate him about Caridad while she was still wearing the same dress she had on when she spent the night with still-very-much-married Arturo in a hotel room, like a cheap you-know-what. Either way, I think it would be more striking if Eladio dies at the end and either way, I’m #TeamEladio hasta el final. #YoSoyGómezLuna.

Understandably, the “Die Erick Die” Table is chockfull of hecklers, same as the “Die Franco Die” Table, but I’ll boo and hiss these wastes of space and oxygen from where I stand. I don’t want either one to die, that would be too easy. To me a satisfactory Karmageddon would be to have them both share the same prison cell, hopefully with Two-Timing Thug Pedro and our venomous abuelo Humberto rounding off the number of cellmates. Hummy could land in jail for unpaid gambling debts or for mental cruelty to his enfermero Juan Martín or for selling military secrets to North Korea or lo que sea; I’m not too picky.

The only person I’m completely in love with in this TN is Baby Erick. How adorable is that cherub? I can’t take my eyes off him, especially when he starts smiling. Awww, bless!

I’ve lovingly selected these songs by Australian artist, Sia, to dedicate to our troublesome foursome after their respective divorces. I chose:

-- For Julia, to accompany her in her state of precious confusion as the ultimate confundida princess, who gives herself airs of irreproachability and near-sainthood while she continues playing with the feelings of two men and courting their attention anytime it appears to wane: “Electric Bird” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fe5b-1neRm4)
“Someone plugged you in and sadly they clipped your wings. You can't fly away electric bird (...). Well, you're art. You fell into this part. You play the victim perfectly, holding your beating heart. You used to be so smart. You fluttered round the yard making your magic.”

-- For Nina, to help her shake off the Arturo blues and move on to bigger and better things: “Death By Chocolate” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4V89Na3gbA)
“Tears on your pillow will dry and you will learn just how to love again. Oh my weeping willow, let your leaves fall and return. Oh darling, the seasons are your friend. It won't be long. You will grow strong. Up up and away. He's but a falling leaf. He's but a falling leaf...”

-- For Eladio, to foster a positive internal dialogue between his repentant reforming side and his resentful raging side, with the hope that the writers will redeem him before killing him at the end of this show: “Where I Belong” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6YalhwzFxc)
“Without truth, we lose, yet we want to spare the feelings of those we love. Don't cry, we've all lied but there is always room for forgiveness, my friend. So don't treat me bad, just be glad I am strong; I know where I belong. And soon you will see we are blessed and complete, there's a place there for you with me. Shine. You're fine. See I will always have a smile for you, my love. And still, we will be OK and along the way we'll learn a thing or two.”

-- For Arturo, to feed his destructive Julia obsession and nurture the misguided illusion that the woman he’s abandoned his family for is anything more than a tease: “Lentil” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEGHAna02AY)
“I never meant to let you down. I wait with a stake in my heart. I never meant to put you down. I'm trying not to fall apart. Now all I have is riches and pictures and stitches; but money could never buy what you give. Though my heart is achin' and breakin' I'm takin' most of what you send my way. I want just to hold you, unfold you, I told you, I am coming back for you. (...) We'll reunite. Oh, we'll set alight. I'm wishing with all of my might.”

Have a wonderful day, everyone! :)

Exceptional AuntyAnn...

Full of wry observations including "The audience sees that apparently Marintia had no problems getting rid of the baby weight after giving birth".

Thank you very much for providing the extremely pivotal conversation between Julia and Arturo. I still feels Julia is adept at delicately dancing around things, but am relieved to know that she realizes that they both need time to adjust, to heal. She (along with everyone else) is urging him to reconcile with his children. She made absolutely no promises to him and even though at long last realizes she refuses to commit (at all), he still cannot shake the obsession telling the odious Hummy he "needs to do his job and help him get Julia.." Sigh.

"Even though Franco may not believe it, Eladio is happy to have Franco is his life". We (incredulously) agree with Franco.

"Miguel tells her he will give her anything, even the Montenegro properties that are in his name and his company shares". He must really love Consuelo to off to give Nina (who has treated him contemptibly) everything.

Why do I loathe Nina? "Nina is sick and tired of his attitude. She says it's one thing to support him making Connie's life miserable, but"...'Nuff said.

So many characters seem to be swaying in the breeze on the edge of disaster.

I think life may sometimes be a worse fate than death as I suspect some of these unbeloved characters will experience shortly.

Nandicta, what a happy, beautiful baby! I totally agree.

Diana

Thank you,Auntyann, for that excellent, detailed recap.I especially appreciated the complete conversations.

I have to give credit for "Asshat" to a recapper named Becky who wrote the funniest recaps.

Art is surprised that Julia is not jumping into his open arms. Really, Art. you have not heard her saying "no" over and over and over? What a fool believes, he sees." thank you, Michael MacDonald.

Err is despicable, and I am so looking forward to karma taking a big bite out of him. I need to see him in a cell ...with a very big , nasty guy. He should pay in kind for what he did to Connie.

What is Nini up to with the photos? Does she just want to torment Art and Julia. "You've got mine, so I took yours...see you in studyhall." and then, we have Caridad putting the movies on Hotladio. The guy is a hot commodity now that he is divorced. Nandicta, I do not want Eladio to due. He has been getting therapy, and he is trying too change and seems to truly love Julia. As opposed to Art, who is pulling the same privileged rich boy stuff...no change there! Want her..gotta have her...now . Art could have had Julia years ago, but he just did not live her enough to be faithful to her. Too bad, so sad, Art.When someone is really your onetrueloves, it is not hard to resist temptation, buddy.

It sure looks as though Auggie and Miguel will end up saving the damsels in distress Gaby and Connie. Maybe there will be a mass wedding including Justino and Clara. ...just as Franky and Err are carried off to jail. Caridad can visit sonlony in jail.

I do not want Eladio to die. I think that Hummy will die of natural causes before the finale , and I am wondering about the fate of Nini and Art. There has to be some karma coming for them. I do not want to see Art winning the Julia prize. I think that Dani might not survive because it seems as though the writers will reunite Reg and Dave. Assmore, all around nasty piece of work, also needs an anvil.

Thank you very much for the recap!

Susanlynn: Mean Girls 3.0 between Purple Lips vs. Julia: "You've got mine, so I took yours...see you in studyhall." LOL!

Diana: We haven't seen the last of Ashmore!

Nandicta: Jr., will likely need psychological therapy once all is said & done!

Gracias, AuntyAnn.

What a boneheaded move on Miguel's part to give his properties to Nina. That gold-digging bottomless pit doesn't deserve them no matter what she is coming to realize about her worthless son. Furthermore, she will use those to hurt Arturo, Miguel, and Regina. At this rate there will be nothing for the latter two to inherit.

She can try to vamp Eladio all she wants; the man is not interested and she will end up making a fool of herself (although that will take a little longer than it did for Caridad).

Franco, Erick, and Pedro in the same cell? Interesting. It sounds like a recipe for entertainment for the rest of the cell block. Or trouble for the prison staff if any of their families still care about them at the end of this tale.

This makes me think that Franco's Karmageddon should be a little different. Maybe he should be caught by Eladio when he's at the brink of success on his plan and die in an accident during a fight. This adds to Eladio's Karmageddon because he will feel guilt, maybe more than he would deserve for this.

Nina sounds like she is getting to the breaking point with Ape Child but what will happen when she actually finds out that he raped Consuelo? She will be shocked but will she add it to his past and other present sins to see what that means or will she do nothing?

I am sure that Arturo is having a heart attack at the end of this episode. This will prevent him continuing to pursue Julia and also from going after Assmore for the time being. I also hope it helps him to reconcile with Regina. Their emotional estrangement hurts both of them.

Have to catch up to Hotel; I went to the movies last night.

UA..I think that finding out that her precious boy raped Connie is going to be the last straw for Nini. She is already disgusted with him because now that he has that sweet baby, he ignores him and expects his mommy to take care of him while he continues his shiftless, useless ways. What an oxygen waster. She is finally going to recognize the monster he has become. I recently read a quote attributed to John Wayne on another site..."Life is hard. It is especially hard when you are dumb." I immediately thought of Err...and I may or may not have also thought of someone I know in real life ;)

UA..What movie did you see? I love movies, but I often cannot find any that I am interested in seeing.

I saw the 2010 roadshow restoration of The Ten Commandments, so I didn't get home until midnight. You definitely watch a film differently in a movie theatre from how you do at home on TV or however. I thought about how a film like this would never be made the same way again because the thousands of extras would be replaced by CGI. I also noticed things I didn't think to look for before.

Had fun recasting this a while back for one of our weekend discussions.

Thanks Susanlynn...now Michael McDonald is in my head and that song is replaying itself over and over again. Like on the 40 year old virgin. LOL!

That make-out scene with Reg/Jorge - don't just gag me with a shovel, stab my eyes out with a pitchfork. Although it seems she is having fun, it seems as if the so-called chemistry is fake and it's being forced down my throat. Dani/David - they actually do have chemistry.

Mig/Con - another forced down my throat and I want to rip my eyes out of my sockets when they kiss. Thank goodness it's not happening right now.

I don't know if Miguel actually signed over anything to Nina, but I'm glad that she seemed genuinely pleased at taking the baby to his mother and making her feel better. Then again, I like Nina so I'm biased.

Caridad, self respect is not in your vocabulary and all of those years in prison have taught you nada! He's not even given you side-eye, why would you lean in to try that move.

I think that spending that amount of time in prison warps any normal person's social skills. Caridad may be a schemer because that is a prison survival skill, but in view of the reason she was there in the first place I doubt she was in much real danger.

Her problem is that her sense of loss of the relationship she should have had with Franco has pushed her into being led by him. She has major blinders on about him and to some extent this is normal; more so for her in this situation than for Nina. She didn't see him growing up as Eladio's Mini-Me. She sees the visible package and it's a nice one: A handsome, personable young man with a well-paid, enviable job whom most young women see as a Great Catch. He was engaged to a daughter of an Old Money family whose work is to help orphaned children. What more could any mother ask for in her son?

He keeps things from her just as Erick has kept Nina in the dark about his worst transgressions. She did not witness his crimes, nor does she know that he is currently cheating on the naive Gabriela with the scheming Marintia. She knows nothing about his plan for what sounds like a hostile takeover of GLA.

She has also never thought through the consequences of Franco being involved in Mateo's life. How can this happen without Gabriela finding out about it, thereby nuking the marriage?

Thank you AuntyAnn it was a great early morning read.

Nina tells him, (Erick) to take care of Erick Jr. Oh No! Did I read that correctly?

Miguel ready to give Nina his properties and company shares. Oh No! again. Well he's doing it for Consuelo but wouldn't it be easier just to break into Erick's computer and cell phone? It's done all the time right? He would hit pay dirt in there.

Caridad did make a valiant effort of conquest or would that be re-conquest? Anyway,
it fell short. She took a crushing blow to her ego.

Steve---Therapy for Erick Jr.? They had better start now. If they wait until the end of the show, it will be too late for him, he'll be a mess by then and most probably uncureable.

So funny Urban. I laughed when I read your line about Nina making a fool of herself with Eladio, although it will take longer than it did with Caridad. Oh No! will that be another blow to Caridad's ego? That poor woman is sure getting beat up so to speak.

Did Arturo have a heart attack at shows end last night? A divorce, Julia telling him not to rush things, Daniela possibly using drugs and the Erick/Consuelo mess and the Mayan project falling through. Yep, that will do it all right.

I'm staying tuned for must see tv.
the gringo

Susanlynn: Purple Lips finding out Erick is the monster! I'm NOT buying it at all because she's the one, who created the monster in the first place!

-- Diana: "So many characters seem to be swaying in the breeze on the edge of disaster. Beautifully said and so true. This is the reason this show is giving teensy heart attacks, because I'm seeing all these people at the verge of the precipice and they can't seem to be able to take a step back. I don't want to keep looking but I can't look away either!

-- Susanlynn: Ever since that post-congress tattoo explanation scene some 30+ episodes ago (Lord, has it been that long since we last saw Juladio bunnyhop?), I had this nagging feeling that Eladio would die by the end of this. It has been compounded by many other instances since, like his telling Julia "I would die for you", "My life belongs to you", "I can't conceive life without you", yada yada yada. Not to mention his latest confrontations with Randy Boy Arturo. Basically, Eladio has invoked death more than once; UA even recalled an example from the opening episode. The thought of Eladio dying made me a little sad at first but now I'm reconciled with it and I feel that for Colunga's sake, since he seems to play the role of a lifetime, it would be more memorable if he dies at the end. A friend of mine from Mexico told me that, so help her, if they kill off Eladio, she will stop watching this TN! I replied: "They'll kill Eladio off in the penultimate scene of the Gran Final to help you stop watching."

-- Steve: So sad that such a sweet happy baby is stuck in that pit of loonies! I found myself telling these characters on several occasions to "stop yelling! You're scaring the baby!" But bless that little angel for not bursting into tears during those screaming matches.

-- UA: "What a boneheaded move on Miguel's part to give his properties to Nina." He didn't say he'd relinquish his actions to Nina per se but yeah, that was a bonehead move! I wish Miguel or Consuelo or Clara remember that false alibi Consuelo gave Erick and threaten to tell the truth. Why is noone thinking of this? It's driving me nuts! I know we don't have the same perspective on the Nina character, but yesterday, I remembered you when Nina admitted to Eladio that growing poor makes her look like an interesada (self-interested, overambitious, covetous). She values financial security like anyone who endured poverty or the consequences of bankruptcy (like Julia) but I don't think this necessarily makes her a "gold-digging bottomless pit".
I did though think to myself: "Hey! I'm poor and I'm not interasada!" but then again, maybe that's why I'm still poor... precisely because I'm not interesada. Hmmmm...

-- Kendra: "That make-out scene with Reg/Jorge - don't just gag me with a shovel, stab my eyes out with a pitchfork." The writers ruined both Regina and David in one fell swoop! Their pairing was vanilla, borderline tedious but it was bearable. Now the boring factor was multiplied because we have to endure two insipid couples instead of one with the addition of a nauseating sister-sandwich romantic entanglement or what Cynderella called once, way at the beginning of PyP: "Challenge Accepted!"

-- Gringo: Nina's blind devotion to her despicable ape child will be her Karmageddon. I think losing one or two of their children to prison and/or death will be Arturo and Nina's Karmageddon. And I did feel sorry for Arturo at the end of the episode, even though I normally can't stand him. He and Nina are responsible to a large extent of the way their children turned out but I can't help feeling sorry for them. Even Regina is a jumbled mess. The only reason we considered her as a normal and upstanding character is because that's how she looks in comparison to the catalogue of mental and emotional defects that her siblings display. However, she is definitely part-and-parcel of the Montenegro loony bin.

Aunty Ann, thank you for the recap. Excellent, as usual.

We know Arturo has an ulcer, so I'm betting that's what's wrong with him. Too many stressful situations and none of Petra's wonderful TLC-filled cooking is finally bringing him down. Karma, is that you knocking?

Nick

I think David and Daniela are a much more interesting couple than him and Regina. Way more chemistry, but they're doomed because the writers are determined to give us David and Regina.

-Annie

I kinda like hamster girl and turtle boy together. If you squint, and imagine big ears on her you can see her as a rabbit. Then we have the tortoise and the hare.

-- Nick: "Karma, is that you knocking?" Tee hee hee. Yep, it's time to pay the piper, Artie Boy!

-- Annie: I agree that David and Dani have better chemistry but this whole going back and forth between sisters is repulsive. Besides, David was fleeing Dani like the plague and now, all of a sudden, he completely under her charm? Either he has inherited his Mami's confundida genes or he's playing with this poor girl's feelings or he's letting Little David do all the thinking. Very bad. However, like you said, the writers are determined to sell us this Regina-David idyllic romance that nobody is buying, not even the two actors themselves it seems.

-- Kirbo: What a hilarious image you painted! A friend of mine called Regina once "cara de hamster" (hamster face) and since she pointed that out, I just can't unsee it! She does look like a hamster! A very cute hamster with the most beautiful eyes ever but a hamster nonetheless. That tired fake pony doesn't help either. I sometimes fantasize that she and Dani get into a catfight and Dani snatches that ponytail and runs!

Nandicta..I hope that you are wrong. Eladio constantly pledging his love to Julia is starting to remind me of Jamie Fraser's fierce love for Claire . "I give you my body that we may be one. I give you my spirit till our life shall be done." (Picture me...a puddle on the floor.Talk Jamie to me. Jamie, you had me at "body.") However, Jamie only means that he will protect Claire with his body and would die to protect her. Eladio is getting a little unhinged. Would he akill himself for losing Julia? Please, no. It was hard not knowing if Fernando would survive as Manuel in Amor Real.

Not much bunnyhopping going on except for smarmy, not charming Franky doing the nasty with The Mouth breather. Ew

As for David and the sisters, I have three cousins who all dated the neighbor boy....one after the other starting with the oldest. He stopped shor of the two brothers. He really seemed to like the family, and they were all attractive, smart, funny girls. It was a big joke among the extended family...but then you would have to know my relatives...all very funny people.

Kendra...you're welcome!!! I love that song. We saw him perform about ten years ago with Hall and Oates..a great concert. As for me, I have "I Can't Feel My Face" running through my mind most of the time .

-- Susanlynn: Thanks for the laughs! David is bunnyhopping his way through that Montenegro Mansion as well! Next on the list: Nina, Petra and Chimp Boy.

I can't wait for the Easter Holidays so I can find a little time to "Outlander". I hold you entirely reponsible for any swooning and melting that will ensue.

OT.....Nandicta !! You have no idea what you are missing. Outlander is more romantic and hotter than any telenovela I have ever seen....or maybe anything I have ever seen! If you do not believe me, ask Kendra, Doris, and Sandy. And you have lived in Scotland ,and I bet you know some hot Scots. You are going to kick yourself for holding out so long. Season two starts April 9.

-- Susanlynn: As for Eladio's fate, this isn't speculation on my part, it's just a personal wish. I don't think the producer is bold enough to do it though. I believe he'll fold to popular pressure and give the masses a happy ending. I don't want a happy ending! I want these people to be miserable! Then again, this show is messing with my emotions so much I might change my mind tomorrow and join the Juladio groupies again. I'm equally confundida and bipolar, just like our "heroine". I wish I had the luscious hair and rocking body too...

-- SusanlynnAh the hot Scots! I've been lucky enough to have a couple of hot Scots in my life that were such upstanding guys, perfect gentlemen and dedicated boyfriends that they totally messed up my dating life by placing the bar so very high.

I second that Outlander emotion!!! OMG! I am obsessed. This love story is so addictive. And with the exception a couple of exceptions, the obstacles are mostly plain old trying to survive!

- Susanlynn (still in my head - LOL!)

The brothers and Connie and the sisters and David is just too much. I'm not a fan of the swapping. However, I'm getting over David and Daniela because the chemistry is better and more believable. At this point, even with her stupid boo hooing, I don't want David and Regina back together. I was hoping a new girl would come along, but they already paid for Dani.

Nandicta...Yeah, guess what..that description of those hot Scots you knew.... Now multiple that to get Jamie Fraser. Luckily, my hubbahubba is not Scottish but he fits your description . It was love at first sight, and luckily, the inside matched the outside...but no lovely Scottish accent.

Kendra..."the obstacles are mostly just trying to survive"...so true......new earworm..."Staying Alive."

Nandicta, But did Consuelo provide a false alibi or did she tell the truth? We didn't witness her closed-door statement to the detective in the relevant episode. If she gave a false alibi, why did he become a person of interest? I don't recall her ever telling anyone what she told the police.

Kendra, The whole triangle thing involving brothers and sisters is an Ickfest and with a double dose of it I'm surprised Arturo didn't have a heart attack already. But he might when the truth about Ape Child comes out.

Nick, thanks for the reminder about Arturo's ulcer. He definitely needs someone like Petra to cook for him unless he learns how to do it himself. I also suspect he doesn't think of these things with so many other fish to fry (so to speak).

What is going to happen with D&D when Dani's drug use starts interfering with her relationship with David? Are the writers going to ask us to believe that her Luuuurve is so great for David that she miraculously forgets about the very things which made her hook(er) up with AssMore?

Furthermore, David ostensibly does not know about Dani's little big secret. If and when he finds out will he be OK with Luuuurving a junkie?

See, Hamster Gurl is also dumber than a box of rocks. Case in point: Given the back and forth with herself, David, and Dani, the F I R S T thing she(HG) should have done is tell David every little nasty, cruel secret on Dani. Hell, any gal worth it would make up a few additional ones, given the rules Dani insisted on playing by.

Thank you Aunty for magnificent recap. I sure did like it alot.

I dont think Dani is hooked. I think she used recreationally and Assmore looks like he tried to get her hooked for obvious reasons. They dont show her doing drugs or looking for any.
Leticia

Ok, they did show her doing drugs that passed out in hotel. I think she is dangerously indulging in drugs, but not to the point she is addicted.

Leticia

Regina doesn't sink to Daniela's level; that is the point. Besides, I don't think she knows about her most recent drug activities, since she was away from home for a long time.

Only Nina and Ape Child knew about Daniela's relationship with Assmore. Arturo now knows and he's on the warpath. He will probably be the one to tell Regina, who will be just as disgusted as he is. That doesn't mean she will tell David and if I were her I'd either tell Nina and let her deal with it or let Daniela crash and burn.

Assmore will be Daniela's undoing and that could happen in front of David.

Wonderful recap AA!

Boneheaded move by Miguel? Totally agree but it did look like the gesture made a big impact on Nina. And not because she was thinking of herself. After what she had just been through with Erick I think Miguel's selflessness might have made an impact. She certainly seemed happy with Connie and the baby. Also, she was able to take in Connie and see that something was really wrong. Not sure the Nina of a month ago would have noticed. Happy to hear Connies appeal will be with an impartial judge.

Art has turned into a desperate man. Hope heart attack or stroke isn't too serious.

Will Dani tell daddy the truth once confronted? Doubt it.

The space between Eladio and Nina at lunch was a gulf. Nothing there to suggest any cosines but looks like Julia will see what she wants to see. I'm more looking forward to Arts reaction.

Will Art's illness cause Julia and Nini to both rush to his bedside?

Carvivlie, the camera angle could distort that distance into non-existence and Nina knows that.

She is an arribista; not a totally stupid one, although she is no Ann Grenville. As to her reaction to Consuelo, she realized that something major has happened because of the change in Consuelo's demeanor. Is she going to put this into an equation and figure out that Ape Child has something serious to do with this? For the baby's sake we have to hope so and that it happens soon.

However, since Consuelo herself isn't likely to tell Nina that her son raped her, she will need to find out from Erick himself, which is likely to happen the next time he gets drunk. More about that in the next post.

Susanlynn, that could happen if it's serious enough. However, it could also lead to a catfight in the hospital. Since both women have longer hair than normal for their current ages I'm surprised that hasn't already happened.

Good Afternoon Everyone!
Thanks for stopping by. I have a correction. In the scene where Auggie comes into Art's office while Erick is turning in his Maya proposal GLA wants the permits taken away from Art and given to Eladio if the GLA proposal is accepted. I originally had the permits being taken away from Eladio to be given to Eladio, but that makes no sense. Sorry for the error.

Hasta Pronto

Leticia, you are probably right about Dani. The hotel scene with the almost dead guy sure made her look bad. But there have not been any other indications of anything on her part which would be considered Junkie-like. I have known a lot of people who pulled off a major coke addiction without anyone being the wiser. But years down the road, Mr. C eventually won.

David just seems too vanilla white bread to putup with anything.

Put Up stupid spell check, not a chinese spelling of Ketchup/catsup.

Novela writers love to create comparative situations and we have lots of them in this series. Some are within one generation and others cross between the two. Erick and Franco are a great example:

Both have committed crimes worthy of prison time:

Franco: Corporate espionage, attempted murder of Erick, embezzlement
Erick: Selling out company secrets, aggravated assault of Franco, kidnapping of own child, rape of the child's mother

Both are guilty of emotional abuse of women:

Franco: Caridad (his mother)
Erick: Consuelo (wife), Regina (sister)

Both keep secrets they never confided in their mothers:

Franco: Embezzlement plan (from everyone), baby Mateo (from Gabriela)
Erick: The Rat's party and aftermath (from everyone, but quickly found out), kidnapping scheme and rape (from everyone)

Neither had good relationships with their fathers:

Franco: Eladio was there, but toxic.
Erick: Arturo was not present enough to not be eclipsed by Nina's toxic influence.

Both are also guilty of adultery.

Since Franco is a more effective liar than Erick is I am still not sure how he really feels about anyone. Does he have any feeling for his son? For Julia? Does he even care about Grabriela in any meaningful way or is she just a means to an end?

Erick is a bad liar and lazy. He can't do his work properly, doesn't take care of his son, hates two of his siblings, and refuses to grow up to any responsibility. He's a little easier to hate.

Maybe this can help us figure out who deserves the worse Karmageddon.

AuntyAnn- Thank you. A great recap and many thanks for the translation of the dialogue of the Julia and Arturo scene.

Wow, Assmore opened his mouth and admitted to giving drugs to Daniela in exchange for some nookie. I'm susprised Arturo didn't punch him out. Instead he just ended their partnership.

What was Agustín doing near the hospital anyway? Getting some air?

The TMZ photos should result in some good drama. Can't wait to find out what happens.

Great recap AuntyAnn and thanks a bunch.

It was all about Art anyway and Julia is an acquisition. She ran before but Art blamed and directed his anger at Eladio. He has waited out Eladio, has a man on the inside and I heard wiggle room in Julia's retort. I think she means it when she says gimme time so if Art is a little patient for a day or two he'll be able to pop that cork.

Jorge, poor thing. If only he'd do a mime routine Regina would truly be his.

Michelle Renaud is a boring ferret

Mauricio..yes, I was surprised that Art did not sucker punch smirking More-of-an-ass-than-we-knew. One should not speak disparagingly to a daddy about his daughters. Assmore deserved a punch in the face.

Auggie is just always there to save the day...like a prematurely gray Superman.

I can totally see Jorge doing the mine act. After the turtle he gave Regina, it wouldn't surprise me. So who is feeding the poor turtle while Regina is off eating tacos in the hood?

mime act not mine. Sorry for the typo.

-- UA: Regarding your question about Consuelo's declaration, it was indeed behind closed doors and was maintained a secret until the next episode when she herself told Erick and a couple of other characters that she lied and told the police that Erick went with her home after her brawl with Montserrat at the party. She said he accompanied her to the mansion when in fact he pushed her to the ground and went back into Montserrat's building. Miguel was even disappointed in her lying to protect Erick. Erick became a person of interest again when a witness came forward and told the police that they saw someone argue with Montserrat on her balcony and shove her off. The witness recognized that someone as Erick from the photos he was shown during the affidavit. We know this information from three conversations:

1) In the hospital, when Auggie told Art that Montse's necklace was no longer an issue but a new witness who saw Erick and Montse in the balcony is (the infamous "make that witness, that imbécil disappear" convo),

2) When Art bought off the witness, a certain Tapia or Talapia (During their exchange, Art explicitely asked the witness not to recognize his son "as the man who killed Montserrat Moret")

3) During Erick's post-coma hearing, when the witness retracted his prior testimony and declared that now that he can see Erick up close, he realizes it's not the same guy he saw. Besides, it was dark, bla bla bla. The detective got mad at the witness and told the judge that the witness had in effect recognized Erick's photo as per the affidavit included in the police file.

Basically, both Consuelo and Art are directly responsible for allowing Chimp Boy to run amok, ruining lives and committing more crimes. Other members of the Montenegro family are also indirect accomplices of this for withholding the truth, namely Nina and Miguel.

Just one small addition to my post above. Although I strongly oppose what Arturo and Nina did to get Erick off the hook (him by bribing a witness, her by keeping Erick's bedside confession to herself), I can put myself in their shoes and understand to a certain extent a parent's misguided attempt to protect their child. However, why are Consuelo and Miguel withholding the truth about Erick's alibi? Why is Auggie covering up for whatever he suspected Arturo did to get that witness to backtrack? In light of Erick's sadistic behavior, one of these supposedly reasonable and smart people should have taken action, instead of whinging and moaning! Consuelo should've alerted the cops about her rape immediately after it happened. It's day 2 and still nothing. She should also learn to use that peephole.

Consuelo telling that particular lie doesn't mean that Erick actually did the crime. What doesn't make sense:

1. If Erick shoved her off the balcony while she was still alive, how is it she didn't scream all the way down?
2. He had no motive to kill the slut

If he had, he definitely would be stupid enough to kill her.

If Chimp Boy hadn't been in the accident that Arturo initially felt responsible for, I don't think Arturo would have tried to help him escape. I think he would have let the law deal with him.

Addendum to my previous post:

That peephole is too high for Consuelo. I'm only 5 feet tall myself and I can use the peephole in my door. She can't be 4'8" in shoes.

Augustin caved to Daniela's plea to not tell her parents about the hotel incident. That is so out of character for him I'm still shaking my head.

Thanks Aunty Ann. So good of you to provide a detailed translation of the pivotal conversation between Julia Confundida and Angry Arturo. I totally enjoy watching his growing rage (and no doubt ulcer) as she kept pushing him away verbally.

And Eladio evading the clutches of Caridad. Lord, that woman is annoying.

Somewhat sad the conversation between Eladio and Franco. No way could Franco believe that his father was glad he was alive. The actor did a great job of just lifting one eyebrow to show his doubt of that fine declaration.

And agree that Marintia did look unbelievably well recovered from childbirth in that hot red ensemble. Shall we credit it to youth and a somewhat premature birth?

Thanks Aunty, well done. Various alarming birds are coming home to roost.

UA - I agree that Altair Jarabo is extremely short. It's very obvious every time she (Consuelo) goes to her door that the peephole is a whole head higher than she is. There's NO WAY that she is 5'6", as the internet info states. I'm 5'2" and can reach my door's peephole easily. Someone's padding her vital statistics! On the other hand, Marlene Favela is listed as being 5'9", which I think sounds about right.

UA...no way...I've always imagined you as statuesque. And at least 5'8".

-- UA: To answer your questions about Montse's murder:

1) Montse was drugged off her head and extremely depressed (judging from her last conversation with Julia and Aldo), so maybe she thought she was flying! :D
2) That boy is sadistic and cruel. More importantly, he really really really doesn't like to share his toys and he really really really doesn't handle rejection well. Just look how he's torturing Consuelo and he doesn't even like her as a toy. Imagine how he felt about his favorite toy, his "Montse". Besides, he was very drunk and may have taken something else too. That party had a whole panoply of recreational drugs.

Arturo would have paid off that witness whether Erick had had that accident or not. By the time the existence of this witness was revealed, Art was already aware that Erick's brakes had been cut (he learned this on the same episode where Gaby and Franco married). Art was not feeling guilty for supposedly causing his son's accident because, by that time, he was well aware that Erick's accident was provoked. He had known it for 6 months. Indeed, Art asked Auggie to make the witness disappear AFTER the time jump and AFTER Erick woke up from his coma! During that same conversation, he desperately pleaded with Auggie to help him because Erick was repentant and asked him for another opportunity and as his father he would give his son that second chance, caramba! (this was episode 85 or 86, because Julia and Eladio had just had their big bust-up and Erick woke up from his coma before Art could run to his Dulcinea's side).

What Art did was totally premeditated. I can understand to a limited degree why he did what he did but his actions cannot be excused one bit. The life of a human being was lost because of his idiot son and the lives of other human beings, including that of an innocent baby, are being ruined precisely because his son should have been stewing in jail instead of running amok spreading mayhem.

Which still doesn't mean that Arturo knows that Erick is guilty of murder. Although I think he should have not taken the "confession" at face value. And who knows what version of it Nina told him, since we didn't hear her repeat it.

-- UA: All the information provided above was said verbatim during conversations between characters, except where indicated (my theory about Erick's motive and why Montse didn't scream on the way down). This information includes also the following:

1) Arturo overhearing Nina when she told Dani that Erick confessed to her that he killed Montserrat.

2) Arturo telling the witness that all he has to do to receive a bucketload of money is not recognize Erick "as the man who killed Montserrat Moret". I can't remember the episode number (surely it's somewhere between 85 and 89) but if you go back to that conversation, you can hear Arturo say this, verbatim. I think I even shared his quote as "A quote from the capítulo" on that episode's thread. I just can't recall which episode it was.

The above elements were shown to us as viewers. No interpretation or speculation to have because we saw these things. In light of these elements, Arturo KNEW his son was guilty of murder. Here is the speculation part, my speculation: judging from the way Erick has been behaving since he woke up from his coma, I put NOTHING past him. I think he's capable of the worst. Erick killed Montserrat. He confessed it. He had a false alibi provided by his doormat then-wife. A witness saw him commit that murder. The silence of said witness was bought off by Arturo. Arturo and Nina both knew their son killed Montse. As far as I'm concerned, this case is closed. Or as our dear Dr. Carlos says: NEXT! :)

Ya, basta!

Erick's "confession" called the Rat's death an accident, which is something entirely different from manslaughter or second-degree murder. However, she would have needed to have gotten significantly drunker or higher after Julia's departure and I don't think there was enough time for that.

You are right in that some parents would misguidedly shield such actions. My mother would have done that for my brother. If people who do such things don't suffer legal consequences, their consciences will do them in sooner or later.

I say put Franco and Erik in a cage together with no food and ONE knife and see which eats which

I just figured out why I remember Arturo's conversation with that witness so vividly: I recapped that episode because Cyn couldn't. It was Episode 87 (Episode 70 on Univision). Here is what I wrote:

"Arturo goes looking for the witness in question, a certain Tapia. He tells Tapia that he won the lottery and that he can get enough money to live comfortably for the rest of his days. All Tapia has to do is “not recognize the man who killed Montserrat Moret” during tomorrow’s hearing."

Here is what Arturo asked the witness to do in exchange for the money: "No tiene que reconocer al hombre que mató a Montserrat Moret." ("You do not have to recognize the man who killed Montserrat Moret").

Awesome Nandicta

Thanks, AuntyAnn. With pleasure I'm about to read your fab recap and all the comments.

We've been saying there's little comic relief here, save for Petra. But last night Caridad striking out with Eladio was hilarious.

There's a big difference between those, though. Petra is funny "ha-ha," but Caridad is funny "yeesh", where the laughter is behind her back.

UA, I agree with Nandicta. As I have said before Erick's confession to his mother cant be accepted as gospel. His saying it was an accident is another lie. He told his mom a twisted version of how HE wanted to spin the story. If it turns out that it was indeed an accident, I will admit I'm wrong.

I also knew it was mentioned that Consuelo covered up for Eric, but could not for remember what
Epi it was.

Nandicta, I am astounded at your capacity to remember do much! Btw, thanks for clarifying "se fajo los panalones" instead of "bajo los pantolnes."

Leticia
