This will be brief. Pablo and Martín decide to go over every aspect of the murder of Sofía, saying there’s no such thing as a perfect crime.
Bobby arrives in Las Vegas but he can’t find Adriana. Andy el Asqueroso found her phone with the selfie of the hotel and hustles her off to another hotel.
At Mon-Sol Evencio, fairly drunk, calls out Marlene and Armando for having framed Eva to get her out of the way. Armando doesn’t want to fire him. [Several events in this episode make me think that Evencio may be the puzzle piece Pablo needs. He also knows about the fake truck robberies.]
Armando is furious with Marlene and tells her to get Adriana back on the first flight. But 3 days pass and he doesn’t seem to be pushing it.
Elsa comes to Mon-Sol to blackmail Marlene, but Marlene gives her a job instead, spying on Armando.
Eva has been called to court after her time in solitary. The horrible lawyer Silva has gone to court and they’ve taken Fabiola from Eva’s custody.
Soraya comes to visit and Eva asks her for help.
Armando looks like he’s hanging tough in suspecting Marlene, but he’s just about to fall into bed with her when AA has Adriana call her father. They’ve run out of money in Las Vegas. Andy forces her to pretend like all is well. Armando refuses to send money and tells her to come home on the next plane.
Marlene spins a tale of Adriana being a drug addict. She tells Armando she herself saw her drugged and thinks Bobby got her on drugs.
AA has stormed out of the hotel room without his phone and Adriana sees the photo AA sent to Marlene of Pablo and Eva kissing. She figures out that Marlene was alienating her from her mother.
Pablo comes to see Eva and offers to go to Las Vegas to find Adriana. But after Eva goes back to work she tells her friends that she is not forgiving his not telling her about Betty.
Speaking of Betty, she’s not feeling well at work. We see a belly. Marisol tells her it’s guilt about what she did to Eva Soler.
Neighbors have complained about Evencio’s hygiene and he’s not paying the condo fees.
Martín, in a particularly annoying phase of his role in this, is trying to talk Pablo out of going to Las Vegas. Pancho arrives, not on a white horse, but close, and offers to pay for the trip to Las Vegas. He goes on to say it’s not only for Adriana but for his son.
AA calls Marlene. She tells him the message she left about his coming back was because she was in front of Armando. She tells him to stay put; she’s buying time. Adriana overhears Andy's end of this conversation.
Many thanks, novelera, for this very useful mini-recap. Ah, poor Betty isn't feeling well. Isn't that too bad! [I stop writing for a moment to wipe a little of the sarcasm off my screen.]
Am I right in thinking that Pancho has never told Martin or Pablo about his relationship to Bobby? So his statement about his doing this (giving Pablo money to go to Las Vegas) for his son is a Major Step Forward on his part.
You may be right, novelera, that Evencio may be the puzzle piece that Pablo needs. I still fear that Evencio has a large bullseye on his back, and though El Chivo wasn't much of a marksman, Marlene probably is.
Wow, Adriana really has a formidable brain. Who'd a thunk it, especially in her current sorry state? I was impressed with how quickly she realized after seeing the photo of Eva and Pablo on Andy's phone that Marlene is behind Eva's troubles.
Given that recognition, even overhearing just Andy's end of the conversation with Marlene will probably tell her a good deal. She has already heard the message from Marlene, and so when Andy says "first you tell me one thing and now something different," Adriana can figure out that Marlene had told him not to let Adriana go home. Even more revealing may be Andy's telling Marlene that if she doesn't have enough money to send him, she should get it from Armando, since that's why she's with him (I think he said something like por eso andas con Armando.)
I can't wait for tonight's episode, though I may not be able to watch it until tomorrow, since I'll be out tonight.
Part 1: As Kerim lies bleeding out on the hard ground, in the icy rain, Mustafa gets busy collecting all traces of his stay in the cabin, even wiping his fingerprints. He puts all the waste from what he ate and drank in a trash bag, collects his travel bag, takes the gun, and then rifles through unconscious Kerim’s pockets for his car keys. Kerim wakes up when he hears the car drive off, but again, he can’t see who tried to kill him. He’s able to reach his phone, and calls Fatmagul. He can barely speak, but he manages to tell Fatma that he’s been shot, before he passes out again. Fatma goes into a panic, waking the whole house, including Ozge who is sleeping in Fatma’s room. Never one to pass up the opportunity to kick someone when they’re down, Mukaddes immediately turns on Ozge and says it must have been her BIL who shot Kerim, and it’s all HER fault.
Kadir calls Kerim back, and manages to get a few words out of him before he passes out again. They call an ambulance, and then Kadir, Fatma and Meryem head off to meet the ambulance.
Mustafa abandons the truck in the woods, throws the rifle in a nearby stream, empties the trash into a bin at a gas station, dumps the bag separately, and then goes on his way with his travel bag.
At the hospital, Fatma and Meryem are inconsolable as they wait for news of Kerim, who is in surgery. Omer and Mumtaz join them. They all wonder who could have done something like this, and begin to speculate. The Yasaran? Ozge’s BIL? The police found no prints in the house. The shooter took the shotgun with him. It looks like someone had been squatting there. Maybe Kerim frightened the squatter. Fatma says a frightened man wouldn't have taken the time to wipe his prints. The doctor comes out to give them an update. Things are touch and go, because the bullet lodged near the spinal column. The surgery will be long. Fatma and Meryem dissolve into tears.
At the bus station, Mustafa looks all kinds of shifty as he buys a ticket to Izmir. He gets a fright when the police drive up, board a bus, and drag a man off. It’s Ozge’s BIL! Small world.
The family debates with Mumtaz whether or not to tell Fahrettin about Kerim. They decide that it might be too much for him, as he had some heart issues the previous year. Meryem curses the shooter. “May God punish the hands that did this!”
Mustafa arrives at his friend Serdat’s house in Ildir. He’s hacking up a storm and feverish, so he easily dodges Serdat’s questions about why he’s acting so shady, why didn’t he show up three days ago when he was supposed to, and why all the mystery? Mustafa asks for cold drugs, tea and sleep. Serdat goes into town for supplies, and visits the police chief. He asks if he can find out if there are any warrants out for someone—Mustafa.
Kerim is out of surgery, and it went well. They take him to a room, and when he finally wakes, Fatma, Meryem and Kadir go in to see him. The first word from his groggy lips is Fatmagul. “I’m here. You made it, Kerim. You're alive.” Next, he wants to know who tried to kill him, but they all tell him that he’s the one who needs to tell them. He lets them and the police know he didn’t see who did it. Fatma doesn’t let go of his hand or leave his side, even when the surgeon tells them all to leave and let him rest. “I was scared of losing you. I thought I couldn't live without you. I felt so weak. I prayed for you to stay with me…We're together. I'm with you and you're with me.”
Over at Casa Yasaran, Resat is depressed. (Do we care?) He refuses to go to the office or attend the meetings run by the new board, including Ender. At the office, Erdogan, Selim and Munir are annoyed by all the new employees taking over. Resat starts hanging out in their enclosed community’s rec room, where he keeps noticing the thin, blonde neighbor who bought Hilmiye’s house. The family worries about him, except Perihan, who’s less then sympathetic. “His brother died. His son is a criminal. His family is falling apart. But he falls into depression when they take his company from him?”
The Yasaran learn about Kerim getting shot, and immediately suspect Mustafa since no one knows where he is. Selim and Erdogan start to really worry that he’ll come after them next. They are both happy that they did not go out the night of the shooting and have a solid alibi. They do end up going out to a friend’s birthday party at a club, where Meltem is also a guest. She immediately leaves when she sees them. Selim follows, tells her about the shooting, and tells her to be careful of Mustafa.
The police find the car and the gun, but no prints.
Ozge and her mother help Fatma and Meryem, who have spent the last two days in the hospital, by working in the restaurant and cooking so that they can fulfill their orders. Even though they now know the shooter wasn’t her BIL, Ozge still feels it was her fault since Kerim wouldn’t have gone there if it weren’t for her. When she speaks to Fatma on the phone, she asks after Kerim with real concern, which touches Kerim. Her BIL is let go with just a fine for vandalizing the restaurant, but he agreed to grant his wife a divorce and child custody. The family decides to leave Istanbul. They move to Ankara the next day, to go live with Ozge’s mother’s brother, and his family.
In the hospital, Kerim continues to get better, even taking some first steps, as Fatma continues to dote on him. The nurse tells Fatma how the only name he repeated when he first was brought in was hers. She can tell they are newlyweds and asks if there’s a baby yet. They shyly say no, and she tells them to enjoy each other first before having kids. Fatma and Kerim speculate about who could have shot him, especially since so few people know about the cabin. Fatma is sure the Yasaran were behind it. She notes that Hacer knows where the cabin is. Kerim points out, “Mustafa too.”
Serdat goes back to his house, with the police. They order Mustafa to come with them to answer questions about the warrant for questioning issued by the Istanbul police. Mustafa gets ticked off at Serdat for betraying him, then orders him to tell the police that he’s been there for THREE days and has been sick the whole time. Since at that point the only warrant for him is for questioning about the surveillance footage of him following Erdogan/Fatma, the Ildir police release Mustafa to continue about his business. He’s expected to let the police know his travel plans and report to the Istanbul police as soon as he’s back.
Mustafa continues to make Serdat feel like a traitor. He claims that he had been trying to help Fatma and keep her safe when he was following her, but it backfired when Rahmi beat Erdogan for accosting Fatma. He claims he left the scene of the crime and is unwilling to testify because his testimony would actually hurt Rahmi’s case. He again urges Serdat to tell the police he’s been there the last three days. Serdat seems to buy it. He hooks Mustafa up with a guy selling a boat. Mustafa gives Serdat two large stacks of cash, supposedly for being such a good, helpful friend, but it looks and sounds like a bribe for his silence, and Serdat picks up on that. He tries to refuse the money, but Mustafa insists. “If you take care of me, I'll take care of you.” Mustafa is just about to take off in his new boat, when he calls Hacer. She tells him he has to come back to Istanbul right away. His mother collapsed and is being hospitalized. Mustafa abandons his plans and flies back to Istanbul. He arrives at the hospital, and easily lies to Hacer that he had nothing to do with the shooting of Kerim. He is by his mother’s bedside when the police come in and tell him he has to come with them. “You're a suspect in the attack on Kerim Ilgaz.”
In Ildir, the police chief speaks to Serdat. He tells him that there's now another warrant for Mustafa, for shooting Kerim. “I warn you. Tell me all that you know!”
Meryem is caring for Kerim in the hospital, but he’s eager for Fatmagul’s return. Meryem teases him about this. Fama arrives with Kadir, and Kerim’s face lights up. Meryem laughs. “May you always love each other like this, for the rest of your lives.” She sees Kadir is carrying a bouquet of roses, and assumes they are for Kerim. Fatma and Kadir share a conspiratorial smile. The roses, and the chocolates Kadir also brought, are for Meryem and Kadir’s formal engagement. They are doing the engagement ceremony and exchange of rings (which Fatma helped Kadir select) right there it the hospital room. Kerim and Fatma do the honors of cutting the red ribbon connecting the engagement/wedding bands. http://www.turkishteatalk.com/two-rings-a-red-ribbon-and-a-celebration/
Kerim feels the absence of his own ring more keenly. It was removed by the nurses before his surgery. Fatma takes it out of her purse, places in on his finger, and kisses his hand. “I knew I was missing something. Now I'm complete.” Fatma tells him that they have many happy days ahead.
-End of episode.
Romy
Romy- It was so sweet to see how caring and tender Fatma was with Kerim-- taking his hand, kissing his palm, stroking his face and hair, feeding him. I bet Kerim never wants his hospital stay to end!
Doris--I'm not ashamed to admit to watching. It's fun--and I'm loving Laura Flores and Eugenio Siller play mother and son. So different from their gig as mother and son in Reina de Corazones. Fine acting group. I don't know where this Basilio came from, but he's a stitch.
I also have been reading 5Ft's recaps on her website. In case anyone is interested, or forgot to save it, this is it:

SpanProf, you've hit on a couple of things that bother me about the novela. There are plot holes you could drive one of Eva's trailers through. So, when Pablo was basically imprisoned without a trial at the LAPD, the insurance company didn't get someone else to pursue the fraud investigation. Someone said they'd paid out millions in robbery claims to Mon-Sol. Right away, this stinks. How would they continue to cover a company that had dozens of robberies of their trucks?
And, yes, Armando was packing Marlacula's clothes, and we loved that scene. But it dies on the vine. Also dead was his order before they did the tres días después that Marlacula bring his daughter home.
And the judge doesn't think there's a mistrial if there's even a hint she had personal animus toward the defendant?
Nett- I saw your new comment on page one for the week, but figured I should answer it here since this page is well underway. Welcome back!
Yes, a LOT has happened this week-- Rahmi in prison, the blackmail of Fatma, the throw-downs between Meryem, Kerim and Mukaddes, Perihan taking on the Yasaran men, the break-in reveal/dress debacle, Ender's hostile takeover of Yasaran Holdings, Fatma saving Ozge, Meryem and Kadir getting engaged, and Kerim getting shot by Mustafa. Whew!
I have not seen today's episode, so I can't answer your question about Fahrettin's hair. It looked completely white to me when we last saw him, though. It's only been a couple of months since he and Deniz left. They left just after the trial that happened mid-November.
Yes, when they were in the cabin the first time, Kerim felt ashamed for being jobless.
thanks novelera!
excellent points all,
I also wonder about the proof Eva had (the audit?) that would have taken everything away from Armando.
not to mention the hotels where you can lock people inside their rooms,
with no phones, or security.
or with Adriana's incompetence at escaping, always in heels.
also loved your comment SpanProf, "Somehow, whenever Pancho and/or Soraya show up in this tn, I always feel as if everything is going to be ok."
Vivi...thanks so much for checking back on the old page. I toggled back and forth between the 2 pages and thought I was commenting on the new page. And thanks for your confirmations on a few things I was foggy about.
This was some week of events. So much happened and so much to take in. But the take away here is that Fatma is in love with her husband. She was so devastated by his being shot and she has been by his side every moment possible at the hospital. No one should doubt how she feels about him. He should feel and see her dedication and sincere concern. He should feel the love.
I hate Muka moment #1000. She is so horrible. Ozge already feels bad enough for what happened to her and the impact the revelation has had on her family. At this point, the folks in the story don't know who shot Kerim so why oh why would she say such horrid things...to a child. Oh wait...it's Muka and she did the exact same thing to her sister in law who barely an adult. I mean Muka knows beter than anyone that there are several suspects out to get Kerim and yet she spouts off her ugly uncaring mouth to Ozge. I hope Muka feels what its' liked to get kicked in the gut real soon. Oh wait...Salih did that already...and apparently it had no affect. I guess there really is no boundary she won't cross and she truly has no filter...or cares for nothing or no one but herself. She doesn't care who she hurts. The only person she hasn't totally disrespected is Kerim's dad...but wait...he just returned to town.
Serdat...another guy with a moral compass. He tried to steer Mustafa straight early on but Mestafa didn't listen and now Mustafa is far too gone. He passed the line of redemption a long time ago. So glad Serdat doesn't appear to be caught up in greed and blind friendship. His going to the police and actually questioning his friends actions is proof he's a decent person.

I have a new name for this novela: The Telenovela of Delayed Gratification
We've been watching Andrés Palacio abuse her for a week or so and Adriana STILL hasn't been rescued. I think the writers painted themselves into a corner. If Adriana tells all to her father, Marlene's game is over.
Thank you so much novelera, Juanita, SpanProf and anybody else I may have missed, for keeping this discussion going. I'm unhappy with the careless writing, but still love the characters. I think you are right novelera about how they got themselves stuck with this Adriana story line. Maybe they're trying to overwhelm us with brainless plot development, so we think it's just like real life (which often seems as illogical as this). LOL! And now that Elsa has insinuated herself into Maleficent's upper echelon, she's acting all sweetie-pie with the Hapless Javier. His remaining drop of professional scruple is bursting out all over his bald spot in beads of sweat.
It looks as though Martîn and Federica may be starting "something beautiful". Seems a bit pat to me, but I'm a fan of happiness and it would be a mechanism through which oor crack team of investigators could get a lot of background on the enemy.
I certainly share the general discontent with this novela's many inconsistencies, unbelievabilities, and stupidities. Still, I look forward to each episode and, most of the time, I'm glad I'm watching it. I guess as an opera fan, I'm used to the "willing suspension of disbelief," and perhaps some of that carries over to telenovelas as well.
That's not to say that I'll put up with anything. I bailed out of several telenovelas--"Avenida Brasil" and "Marido en Alquiler" come quickly to mind. I liked both of them at the start, but both dragged on seemingly forever, and seemed stuck in a rut after a while (especially Avenida). I hope that won't happen with "Eva."
BTW, speaking of opera, I was at the opera last night, and the young tenor kept reminding me of Pablo Contreras. He had the same bug-eyed stare that was supposed to convey that He Was In Luuuuuv. I kept thinking of him as Pablo, which made for a good deal of plot confusion. In the end, he became a monk! I assume Pablo will follow a different path.
Nett- Yes, if anyone had any doubts about Fatma's love for Kerim, these episodes showed clearly just how deeply in love with him she is. Actually, it probably surprised HER how deep her feelings for him go and how destroyed she was by the thought of losing him.
Juanita I am also an opera buff! What opera did you go to? I can rarely afford tickets unless I have a friend in the cast or if some angel drops them in my lap from time to time. I content myself with the Met broadcasts every Saturday at 1:00 (which I have been listening to since the '50s). But I completely agree that telenovelas are operatic in their scope and improbability. Anguish is the most important emotion. (and I'm not referring to the audience.)
Does anyone known if the novel was translated to english. I saw it on amazon but I didnt see an englush version.
Nett
LXV, I saw a performance of Donizetti's "La Favorite," which is the French version of "La Favorita." I'd never seen the opera before in any language, and I don't think it's musically as appealing as some of his other works. It was performed by the Washington Concert Opera, which as its name may suggest, puts on concert versions--no scenery or costumes, just excellent singers performing with the libretto in front of them. Perhaps because there are no expenses for scenery or costumes, ticket prices are substantially lower than normal big-city opera companies charge. There's also more pressure to find first-rate singers, and WCO usually succeeds, sometimes spectacularly.
Fascinating! I can join the circle of opera lovers in Telenovela Viewerville. I've gotten away from it for a couple of years now, but I used to go all the time. San Francisco Opera has standing room tickets. I haven't done that for probably 20 years, but when I did go, I'd leave work early and head to the Opera House. People would start queuing at 4:30 to 5:00. We'd sit in line with picnic lunches. An hour before the curtain, they'd open the door to the standees and off to the races we'd go. The point of being in line early and being swift of foot was to get a spot in the first row of standees. I'm not that tall, so really needed that. Plus you could drape your coat over the back of the divider between the dress circle and the seats there. I stood for 5 hours for War & Peace! I saw all the common repertoire at least once and sometimes more than once.
When I started earning more money I bought tickets, but at that point in my life I was only interested in paying big bucks for oddities or things I hadn't seen before. I loved Satyagraha by Philip Glass. I also saw A Streetcar Named Desire with Renee Fleming. I saw Harvey Milk.
Of course I saw the Ring Cycle. I loved Fidelio. And of course all operas by Mozart are fabulous. I never got to see Pavarotti, but I did see Plácido Domingo in Salome.
I love the entire Italian repertoire, of course.
I just want to clarify something I said earlier. Although the Washington Concert Opera doesn't put on staged performances, the singers sometimes do act as well as sing. That was certainly the case of the tenor who reminded me of Pablo. He had an uncannily similar bug-eyed stare that sometimes turned into a bug-eyed smile.
Novelera, I was fascinated to read about your having seen so many San Francisco Opera productions. And I think it's both wonderful and a bit surprising that our small nucleus of Eva commenters includes at least three opera fans.
¿Qué Culpa Tiene Fatmagül? Cap 63, or “Solving the Mystery of Who Shot Kerim and His Persistent Cough”
PART I
Our Lovebirds Keep Lovebirding! Squee!
We begin with the completion of Kadir’s and Meryem’s engagement ceremony. Kerim and Fatma do the honors of cutting the red ribbon that ties the rings and Fatmagul wishes Kadir and Meryem the best. As Kadir and Meryem eat chocolates with the nurses in celebration, Fatma fishes out of her handbag Kerim’s ring and lovingly places it on his hand. Kerim says he now feels complete with his ring back on. Meryem wishes Fatmagul and Kerim never take off their rings and Fatma co-signs, saying they won’t, and despite everything they have so many wonderful things to experience as a couple (Writer’s note: In Turkey, the rings are placed on the right hand for the engagement and on the left after the marriage ceremony. You’ll see in this scene that Fatma and Kerim have their rings on their left hands, showing they're already married, while Kadir and Meryem have theirs on their right hands, showing they are engaged)
Kerim wishes Meryem the best in her marriage to Kadir, saying she deserves it. The nurses come in with a cake and they cut it and eat. Omer shows up and wishes the couple well and reveals that the police have detained Mustafa for the Kerim shooting.
Me Me Me Mustafa Lies Some More, But Only For a Good Cause; He Wants to See His Mama Before She Passes
Mustafa ups his lies quotient and tells the police he was nowhere near the scene of the crime as he was in Izmir sick and came back to Istanbul because his mother fell ill. He whines that it’s not fair he’s being detained and questioned for this crime while his mother is on her death bed. He says it was mere coincidence he was recorded on the video following Fatma and that there’s no way he would have tried to kill Kerim. He’s so over that Fatmagul; he’s gotten married and his wife is expecting his child. He wants nothing to do with people who turned their back on him and abandoned him. The detective insists that Mustafa is the one responsible since he knew the location of the country house. Mustafa says yes he went to the country house but only to pick up his wife who was being manipulated by Fatmagul, Kerim and Fahrettin, to keep her away from him. He insists he went to Izmir and was there for three days; he took a taxi there to buy a boat and came back to see his mother who’s sick. “I’m the victim, here,” he notes.
Back in the hospital where Kerim is Omer, Kadir, Meryem and Fatmagul discuss the case against Mustafa for Kerim’s injury and the lawyers and Meryem are about to leave, a relieved looking Fahrettin shows up crying tears of relief and hugs his son. Kerim looks shocked that his father came to see him and Fahrettin insists that he had to come and see his only son to make sure he was ok. Mumtaz apologizes for making Fahrettin worry and come from Australia but he speaks to Fahrettin ever day by telephone and when he spoke to Fahrettin after Kerim got shot, his voice gave away that all was not well with Kerim in Turkey. Everyone leaves the room to let the father and son speak and Fahrettin tells Kerim that he wants him and Fatmagul to move to Australia to be closer to him. Kerim says he and Fatma cannot make any long term plans until after the trial. Fahrettin also says he will not go back to Australia empty-handed, that is, without knowing who shot Kerim. He’ll do whatever it takes to make sure whomever is responsible pay for their actions. Kerim says they won’t do anything unless Kadir says it’s ok. Kadir opines that Kerim has gotten smart.
¿Qué Culpa Tiene Fatmagül? Cap 63, or “Solving the Mystery of Who Shot Kerim and His Persistent Cough”
PART II: Mustafa’s Lying Disease Spreads
The police question Hacer and she corroborates his story. He was in Izmir not Istanbul during the crime and he gets along fine with Kerim and Fatmagul. Besides, they have a happy marriage and he had no need to shoot Kerim. Even as she says this, she flashes back to when Musta called her when he was hiding out before he got to Izmir and then she puts two and two together that indeed he did shoot Kerim. That doesn’t stop her from continuing to lie for Mustafa, though. She tells the officer that Musta has a witness saying that he was in Izmir. She pleads with the officer to release Mustafa so he can see his sick mother. Mustafa comes out handcuffed headed to jail as Hacer is about to leave with Sami and repeats the song-and-dance of his innocence and commits his dying mother into Hacer’s hands. “Please take care of her,” he begs his wife as the police drag him off to detention. In the parking lot, though, she tells Sami she knows Musta shot Kerim and that he went to Izmir after shooting him.
Serdar, Mustafa’s friend and witness, is at the police station in Izmir and is speaking to the police head. The police head says something about his story corroborating Mustafa’s alibi that he was in Izmir for three days doesn’t smell right. He asks if Mustafa had threatened him and Serdar says no. The police head reminds Serdar that hiding a crime is a crime too and he marvels that he is covering for Mustafa seeing he himself came by the police station earlier asking if Mustafa had any outstanding warrants. The police head lets Serdar go and then tells his officers to keep their eyes on him.
Ozge’s rapist comes to Fatmagul’s restaurant while Mehmet, Rahmi and Mukaddes are there, looking for his wife, Nalan, and Rahmi runs him off telling him they are not there and he will call the police on him if he comes back. Mehmet notes that he stayed far enough away from the view of the security cameras they have installed so they couldn’t have evidence of his harassment.
Munir meets Resat in a park as he has a pity party for one, himself. Munir tries to let him know about the recent hostile take over of the company but he doesn’t care. He wants to be like the men in the park he sees fishing. He laments how his life has changed in the past year and a half. He was the owner of a grand company, respected if not loved by all, but most of all he had peace. Munir lets him know that he understands he’s tired but he can’t give up. He then tells him Mustafa was arrested for shooting Kerim and Resat says Mustafa and everyone can go to hell for all he cares. Munir lets him know that he should care because if Mustafa makes a deal with the police he’ll betray them all and they’ll all end up in jail. Resat says Munir can deal with that and walks off. “Everyone can go to hell,” he says when he’s by himself.
At the company formerly known as Yasaran Inc, Ender and Meltem get their secretary to revise the official signing over documents and Selim follows Meltem to her office afterwards to let her know he got the paparazzi to delete photos of them in the same club. “Do you expect me to be thankful?” she responds scornfully. Selim tries another route to finding Meltem’s goodwill towards him and lets her know that Mustafa is in jail for shooting Kerim. “You have to stay away from that guy,” he says, “He’s not what he appears to be.” “No one is who they seem to be,” Meltem snaps back as she walks away from her ex-husband.
PART III: Life Goes On
At Fatma’s restaurant are Rahmi, Mukkades and Meryem. Rahmi is giving Mukaddes a backrub, which she complains isn’t strong enough given the tense and stressful days she has experienced. While she broke her back working hard in the restaurant, others, referring to Meryem, were making merry (at the engagement party in the hospital). Mukkades continues to hate on Meryem’s happiness as she says Meryem has bad luck because she got engaged in a hospital and Kadir only gave her a wedding band and not a blingy engagement ring. Meryem says she never imagined she’d get engaged in a hospital but she doesn’t care about the lack of engagement ring because they are only symbols.
At former Yasaran Holdings, Perihan comes with Munir and Himilye to sign the handover papers. Selim wonders where his father is and is told he’s fishing. Himilye then asks Erdogan to tell her the truth about his involvement in the Kerim shooting. Erdo tells her he has nothing to do with it and then they go into the board room for the signing of the handover papers. Ender comes with the paperwork and is surprised to see Perihan there. “You didn’t have to come for the signing,” she says. Perihan responds by saying “The captain (Resat) may have abandoned the ship, but I won’t.”
Fatmagul suggests that she and Kerim take up Fahrettin’s offer to move to Australia. He could go first to get settled and she comes later. Kerim says there’s no way he could live without Fatma for that long. He counted the hours that day until he could see her. Fatma suggests they go together after the trial as a honeymoon. Kerim agrees.
At the hospital of Mustafa’s mom Halide, Hacer discusses Halide’s prognosis with her doctor. The doctor notes there can do nothing more for Halide save relieve her pain as she passes on. Her kidneys are too damaged for anything else. Sami, who is sitting in the waiting room with Hacer tells Hacer after the doctor leaves to get someone else to care for Halide. “There is no one else,” Hacer tells Sami. “Then hire a nurse and go home and get some rest,” Sami counters. He then low-grade berates Hacer for being so silly to get reinvolved with Mustafa when she came back from Italy. “He dumped his mother on you. If something happens to you, who will take care of you? Why did you come back from Italy? For Mustafa? Is he even worth it?” Halide wakes up and hears as Sami asks Hacer why Mustafa shot Kerim “so suddenly and without reason?” Hacer responds that he did it because he still loves Fatmagul. “He loves her so much he’s willing to kill for her.” Suddenly down the hall, out of earshot, Fahrettin shows up and greets Hacer. “I’m sorry we’ve met again in these circumstances,” he simply says. Fahrettin then berates Hacer for protecting Mustafa knowing he shot Kerim. Hacer denies, denies, denies, but Fahrettin tells her he knows more than she thinks and he heard that Mustafa also shot and killed Vural. Halide is shocked and saddened overhearing this. She starts sobbing quietly and flashes back to when Mustafa left Izmir the last time before his father died. Fahrettin tells Hacer that despite her covering for Mustafa he will make anyone who hurts his son or his daughter-in-law pay for what they have done. Fahrettin leaves, then Sami and Hacer goes into Halide’s room and Halide lets her know she knows she heard Hacer and Fahrettin discuss the two killings her son has committed. Hacer tries to deny it but Halide tells her not to leave her with these doubts on her death bed.
Kerim continues to cough up a storm and is paler. Fatma decides to study in the meanwhile but lets Kerim know she doesn’t think she’ll pass this round of exams. Kerim says not to worry if she doesn’t pass, it’s not the end of the world and she’ll do better next time. After Kerim falls asleep, Fatma lovingly caresses Kerim’s hair and face and recalls when she confessed to him at the beginning of their forced marriage that she wanted to recover from her rape and Kerim promised never to leave her alone. He wakes up coughing, Fatma gives him water and then Fatma receives a call from Hacer. Hacer wants her to come to Halide’s hospital and see her since Halide wants to apologize to her personally before she dies. Fatma says no she can’t since she’s also in the hospital with her husband and will not leave his side. Halide then asks Hacer to give her the phone to speak with Fatmagul and Halide apologizes to Fatmagul again and asks for her forgiveness. Halide tells Fatmagul that she’s sorry for turning her back on her and that Fatmagul is the only innocent person in this drama and everyone else sinners. She asks again for Fatma’s forgiveness and blessing and gets it. Halide thanks her and then they hang up.
Right after this call, Kerim wakes up coughing and he cannot clear whatever it is blocking his throat and he coughs himself into unconsciousness. Of course, Fatma is worried and runs for the doctor as Kerim passes out. After he’s taken into surgery, she dreams about the two of them in a boat in winter confessing how they fell in love with each other. She recalls she fell in love with him when he wrote the letter to her when he was supposed to leave after they moved to Istanbul, and he fell in love with her when she passed by him in Izmir wearing a braid (this was how Mustafa fell in love with her, not Kerim, and in her unconscious, Fatma seems to be confusing the two, since how Kerim fell in love with Fatma, when he saw her on the steps at Meltem and Selim’s engagement party, was also the day of her rape). Anyway, in the dream she begs Kerim not to leave her. She wakes up crying in Kerim’s hospital bed as Rahmi caresses her hair. She begs to see Kerim as she looks in her hands and sees the pieces of his ring. The doctors cut it off after he was transferred to intensive care since they couldn’t manually remove it.
Rahmi takes Fatma to intensive care to see Kerim, but only through the see-through door of his room and Meryem tells Fatma what happened to Kerim: pulmonary embolism. A clot travelled to his lungs and is blocking his ability to breathe. Every one tries to get Fatma to rest and sit but she continues to stare at Kerim through his see-through door and says “I won’t leave you. This is not the end.”
As Fatma continues to hold vigil at Kerim’s intensive care room, she recalls Kerim telling her he heard her say “I love you,” and she cries some more even as Fahrettin places his hand on her shoulder to comfort her. Rahmi receives a call from Mukaddes telling him to come home since she’s alone in that big house scared while the children are asleep. As she speaks to him she is walking through the house turning on all the lights. She tells Rahmi to come home since she’s so scared that someone, perhaps, Ozge’s brother-in-law, will come by and cut her head off. Rahmi tells her to stop saying ridiculous stuff like that and go to bed. She doesn’t follow Rahmi’s advice and continues walking through the house turning on lights until she ends up in Kadir’s room, rifles through his beside draw and reads and laughs at his journal of poetry. She ends up blowing out the lights from turning all the lights on and has to be rescued by Mehmet, who comes over and turns back on the circuit breaker.
PART V: Resat Retires, Halide Dies and Kerim Recovers
Back at casa Yasaran, Selim is whining that the family doesn’t seem to care what is going on with Resat. “Suppose his depression gets worse and he commits suicide?” he opines. Perihan tells Selim not to worry. He’s probably clearing his head with some female friends. He would never kill himself as he loves himself more than anyone else. Everyone else, Himilye, Munir and Erdogan tell Selim to calm down, his father will show up. Selim walks out of their presence agitated but then sees his father coming through the door. He lets Resat know they were worried but Resat just walks away with a case in his hand. Selim follows after him and Resat lets Selim know he’s retiring from business since he and Erdogan can work in the business. “I’m going fishing,” he says, as he reveals the fishing rod in the case.
Serdar calls Hacer to express his doubts about Mustafa. He forced him to lie about how long he had been in Izmir and he used his boat the night of Vural’s murder. Hacer is shocked, shocked, shocked, that Serdar would doubt his best friend Mustafa. “He would be so disappointed in you!” she says. Serdar says, “Put yourself in my shoes. Mustafa is not the same person I knew. He’s hiding something.” Hacer tells Serdar to come to Istanbul and talk to Musta if he wants confirmation of his innocence.
As soon as Hacer hangs up with Serdar, she’s in Halide’s room and Halide wakes up calling Mustafa’s name. She tells Hacer to tell Mustafa her last word was his name. Halide then dies.
Back at Kerim’s hospital, Fatma explains to Fahrettin how she and Kerim fell in love despite her hatred of him and his shame. Fahrettin says if what they experienced before didn’t kill their love, a bullet won’t.
Back at casa Kadir, Omer calls Kadir and lets him know the police have to release Mustafa since they have no physical evidence tying him to Kerim’s shooting. As soon as he gets out of jail Mustafa heads to the hospital, and seeing Hacer, finds out his mother passed away. He breaks down and cries on the spot.
Fatmagul finally gets to go into Kerim’s room in intensive care to visit. She’s covered in protective clothing and as he wakes up from sleep, she welcomes him back to life. “I knew you wouldn’t leave me alone,” she says. “Welcome!”
Hacer explains to Mustafa how his mother died. She apologized to Fatmagul. Her last words were your name. Hacer holds Mustafa’s hands to comfort him. Mustafa only reveals his cowardice and failure to accept responsibility for his actions as reacts thusly to Hacer’s comfort. “I have nothing else to lose. You’re a dead man, Kerim. Consider yourself dead.”
END OF CHAPTER
J- This wonderfully detailed recap was worth the wait!
It's almost scary how easily MEstafa lies. But Hacer is an idiot and a fool to lie for him. When your former pimp, who used to beat you, is telling you a guy is bad news, you KNOW you've scraped the bottom of the barrel.
Poor Fatma was beyond distraught when Kerim had that embolism. She was clutching those pieces of his ring so hard that you could see the indentations of her nails on her flesh when she opened her hand.
Mukaddes reading Kadir's personal journal of poetry. Tacky. They should all realize by now that if she's alone in the house, anything they have in their drawers and closets will be rifled through by her. What a parasite.
Thanks Vivi. I watched and wrote the recap on my laptop, which allows me to watch and write at the same time, which makes me more detailed. I loved this chapter for all the love Fatma showed towards Kerim. I knew it already, but I was glad to see her more physically and emotionally expressive about how she feels. The way she smiled and blushed when he told her there was no way he could leave her to go to Australia even for a few months made me happy. I loved it when she forcefully said to Meryem they won't ever take off their rings. I loved it when she called Mustafa an animal for laying in wait and shooting Kerim. She is as committed to Kerim as he is to her.
Sami straight up told Hacer to look at her life and her choices. I didn't agree with him telling her to dump a dying Halide on someone else, she is Mustafa's wife and while he's in jail she has to assume responsibility for Halide-I say this as someone who was a caregiver for an elderly family member for five years-but he was right to tell her she was dumb for going back to Mustafa when she came back from Italy. It goes to show you, though, that you can't judge people just by appearance. Hacer, the ex working girl took care of Halide after Halide called her all sorts of whore and prostitute when Mustafa is the real evil one.
I finally figured out the perfect word that encapsulates the liar, hater, jealous, selfish and petty person Mukaddes is and you might know it, since it's a Jamaican word, Badmind. It didn't surprise me she rifled through Kadir's stuff or that she's so badmind she repeated the poetry to Meryem the next day and rejoiced that she knew something about Kadir Meryem didn't. I was not surprised when she rifled through Kadir's room she put her petty little hands on the picture of Kadir and his first wife and said Kadir didn't wait too long to get a new wife. Again, badmind. Kadir waited a year and a half and had been his sick wife's caregiver for six years. He even told his former in-laws of his plans. How dare Mukaddes? When she said she was scared in the big main house, I thought "too bad. You wouldn't have that problem if you stayed in the guest house like Kadir and the rest had said."
J...thx for such a detailed recap. You all put so much into these.
So big bad Muka is afraid of the dark or to be alone. So that's why she won't take her money and her family and go her own way and leave Fatma be. She's talked of sacrifice and wanting to be away from all the drama but yet she wont' leave. She's afraid of being alone...and being alone is just the punishment she deserves. She is not worthy of human contact she is so vile and tacky doesn't appreciate or respect people.
Asu is left taking care of her suega. That's benevolent of her given how her suega spoke to her and refused her hand early. Life has a way of humbling you. Halide was left in the hands of the very person she despised...and her son has gone crazy because he was shamed into not supporting the very person he loves....and Halide is part to blame.
Speaking of Asu, remind of her background. Halide asked about her family and I don't remember the details. I remember something about working in Germany but that's all. I assume its a combo of blind love for MEstafa and lack of family that has allowed her to stay with MEstafa and now care of his ailing mom. All this despite the fact that she knows how deeply he still loves Fatma.

J- Oh yes, I know badmind. It does describe Mukaddes perfectly. I so wish they could get rid of her, but she's secured her spot in the family by being the mother of those kids-- one of which she could take away leaving Rahmi with no rights since he isn't the bio dad.
Like you and Nett, I saw the irony of Mustafa's mom relying on the dedicated care of Hacer, and needing the blessing of Fatma in her final days and hours. Both women she.scorned for not being pure enough for her precious Mustafa, whom she died knowing is a liar and a murderer.
Nett- Hacer was very vague about her family. She left home to work in Germany, and I think that's where she must have fallen into prostitution. In any case, it seems that her family might not know she's back in Turkey, but they definitely don't know what she did for a living. I think that's one of the reasons she was so upset about the newspaper story (Mukaddes planted) that was all about her and her ex profession.
Halide had to eat a lot of crow in her last days. But I'm glad she heard Mustafa was a killer, and I'm glad she told Fatma that she was the only victim in this situation after in Izmir after the rape, she was all "poor Mustafa." Unfortunately, she never got to tell Mustafa to get over himself but she realized she had a lot to do with Mustafa's outcome when she told him to dump Fatma as damaged goods.
I just about dropped my jaw when Mustafa blamed Kerim for him not seeing his mother before she died. Nothing is ever his fault. Thank God Fatma did not marry Mustafa
This right here shows he doesn't care about Hacer not one bit. Another thing, isn't it interesting how Mustafa reacts to Kerim? He is able to work for Erdogan - take his money, live in the same house - even have his parents working for him...the actual person who raped his fiancée - and yet, all his hatred is directed toward Kerim. I believe Mustafa cannot handle Kerim for several reasons...First, Kerim is all Mustafa isn't. Kerim took responsibility for Fatmagul's well-being. Mustafa tossed her into a ditch. Kerim went to jail - turned himself in for Fatmagul. Mustafa runs like a jackal, and doesn't take any responsibility for a thing he does.
I found the scene of Fatma forgiving Halide very touching. Let the old woman die in peace. I cried again seeing a completely distraught Fatma. That scene was so sad, uff. Beren is so good at crying scenes that I always cry with her.
Romy...I was baffled by MEstaffa's ability to work for the Y's from the very beginning whether he was lied to or not about that fateful night. Then, after learning the truth from Kerim and others...he stayed with the Y's for the money and fear of jail...I get that.
But his growing hatred of Kerim took a moment for me to wrap my mind around. While he wants Fatma back...he's focused on teh wrong thing. He realizes he was a coward...and wants her back badly but he thinks Kerim is in the way not his cowardly actions. While Kerim is a roadblock he is not the problem here. I think with Fatma's growth and strength...there is no way she'd go back to MEstafa regardless of Kerim's presence....but MEstafa doesn't get this.
He thinks if K wasn't there...he could weasel his way back into her life but she's not that weak farm girl with no support or thoughts of another life. She knows she can stand on her own and chart her own course and doesn't need him...but MEstafa doesn't know that about her. He doesn't see her strength or growth. All he sees is the roadblock named Kerime...a man that stood up for her and did what he didn't have the courage to do ...so he's focused on the wrong thing and the wrong person.
His parents saw the error in their ways albeit too late but MEstafa is not looking at himself at all. He has learned nothing from all this. He is going to continue to focus on getting Kerim out of the way.

Romy, I completely agree with your assessment of Mustafa-he has been able to relax and relate to and with the people who actually raped Fatmagul, but he's mad at Kerim, the only one of the group who did not take part in the rape. You are right Kerim is everything Mustafa is not, and Fatma told Mustafa as much when he came to the first house in Istanbul. Kerim came clean and admitted his fault in the case to Mustafa and said Fatma was innocent, yet Mustafa remains mad at him. I actually don't think Mustafa loves Fatma, he's angry at whatvheblost because of his own stupidity, but not enough to do the work to regain Fatma's live and trust, which was still possible before he went with Hacer and which I thought he was going to do when he left Izmir for Istanbul.
I usually don't like it when Beren cries it seems forced, but when she was crying over a sick Kerim, I believed every moment of it. It's great seeing Fatma as woman-in-love, not just as a "rape victim" in recovery.
I posted something about an hour ago...maybe more and it's not there. Just need to know if it was deleted by the monitors for some reason....or if I did something wrong on my end so I'll know.
Thx

J great recap,as usual, ITA it was worth waiting for. Vivi thanks much for Thursday. I was sorry to see Halide go out the way she did. I did not approve of her behavior with Fatma at the time of the rape. Unfortunately, like many mothers she wanted happiness for her son at any cost. From the beginning, she had problems, her health started failing and her only son's values were jeopardized because of money. Later, she get's a deserved verbal beat down by Fatma, her son is acting out, her husband dies, her son brings home a pregger wife who is a former prostitute and on her death bed she learns that her son is a murderer and shot Kerim. Everything she loved is destroyed, geez!
