El Hotel de los Secretos #46, 3/31/16: El Amor de su Vida

Hey patio peeps, below is a quick recap of last night's action!

We see don Benjamin being a total ten on the creeper scale, I'm starting to think he's our killer!

Angela gets caught:

Angela goes into Romulo's old office in search of the sapphire necklace, her intention is to sell it in order to come up with the money to pay Pablo- who is threatening to tell Andre's the truth about his background. The necklace is not there, but Teresa is and she is not please with Angela, she tells her she is to stay out of the office, Angie apologizes and leaves.

We are then treated to a series of flashbacks that show us a bit of the history between Romulo and Angie, how they met, when she told him she was knocked up and the day he gave her the necklace. It's so sad. Also sad? Romulo was way too hot to be named Romulo.

Later in the episode Angela and Lupe go off to confront the rat bastard also known as Pablo but get nowhere with him, he wants his cheese and he wants it tomorrow! Isabel and Julio witness this and Isa has the bright idea to tell Andres that his papi is alive!

Speaking of Andres, dude is in bad shape but he still wants to shower and he uses a broom as a makeshift crutches, but then Felipe, the punk picks on him, but Andres brings the lil punk down a few notches by almost using the broom to strangle him. You go Andres, you go!

Now, let's go back a little bit. Isabel stole a set of keys and gets into Angela's room, she finds 20 years worth of letters between her father and Angela, she later tells all this to Julio, she did not read all the letters but she knows that Angela was the love of Romulo's life.

Cute scene of Alfredo and the no-name baby, Alfredo is out bird watching with the baby, Elisa sees this and makes up her mind:in order to survive and get some of the inheritance money one has to adapt, and if that means bonding with the baby then so be it.

At the breakfast table Diego, Felipe, Alfredo and Elisa go over possible names for the babe and Diego actually suggests they name the baby after him. That takes huevos you guys.

Sofia wakes up and finds Alfredo gone, in her robe she wanders the hotel and finds Alfredo having breakfast, and so starts her breakdown, she asks him why he left her and he has to leave to take her back to her room where she goes mental. She apologizes to Alfredo for "doing this to him" and Teresa has Alfredo leave before Sofia says more. The good doc still feels Sofia needs to be put into the hospital but Teresa refuses.

In other news:

Don Benjamin is not happy that Angela and Lupe are going to the market together but Angela tells him she is NOT his employee and can go where she wants when she wants.

Jacinto is still trying to get in with Violeta but I think he's still too much of a kid for her.

Matilde thinks Ayala is a caveman because he wants to test the women for syphilis but not the men, Matilde still can't remember his name.

Diego and Cecilia get it on like wild monkeys!

And finally:

Belen is gone and they get another wet nurse for the baby, the woman might be indigenous and speaks no Spanish, Elisa refuses to let her feed the baby and sends Alfredo to look for Belen- and he does, only to bump into Andres who calls him a thief and demands that he hand over his SON!

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude!

Thanks for the excellent recap!

One thing I don't understand is that Felipe in a previous episode, was captured by Jorge Arenas and his gang. How did he escape? Did I miss the escape?

I know he must have escaped because in this episode, he gleefully taunts Andres who is trying to painfully limp down the hallway.

thank bunches Princess Juju

"Diego and Cecilia get it on like wild monkeys!"

What Romulo did was horrible what a pompous punk. I don't care if he loved Angela or not, in fact that makes it worse. He was married, Angela was married and they continued to carry on behind Teresa and Pablo's back. No romance in that.

It's silly for Julio and Isabel to bike off for a day pretending to be sleuths. Sillier is the focus on the pendent and Angela. It made sense investigating Cristina's disappearance but her death isn't even discussed now.

Thanks Juju! I hope your toe is better!

Wild monkeys indeed! I think wild monkeys would have been more dignified!

I agree with Tofie about Romulo's affair with Angela. I realize that divorce would have been scandalous, but it's disgraceful for someone in a position of authority to allow the "love of his life" to make her living as his family's servant.

Gobluefan, I think what happened with Felipe and the gang is that the gang agreed to get Felipe the wine in exchange for some type of favor that we don't know the particulars of yet.

Gracias, Princes Juju.

Felipe was released in return for some unspecified future favor. Not sure I care what it is but his bullying of Andres was disgusting.

I read online that a femur should heal in six weeks while Andres has been laid up for six months. How would they have been able to feed him while he was unconscious? Poor boy needs to get his strength and dignity back.

Alfredo is busted with Belen's baby. This is going to be a game-changer. How is he going to feel about this not actually being his child? I hope he gets some huevos and decides to keep the secret and go after what's his from Elise. He also sounds like he would be a good father.

As for Sofia, she is so messed up by Teresa it's beyond belief. Is there a tower room in the hotel? I'm sure she would end up there.

Thanks, JuJu. The recap was great!

Loved the flashbacks last night. They really retold the story well.

Urban, very funny comment about "a tower room".

Felipe will probably be called upon to let the gang in for an assassination attempt on Alfredo's uncle.

It isn't so much that she doesn't speak some sort of Spanish but that she doesn't speak it properly. Like they do back in Castile. Haven't noticed Belen lisping, but it was an opportunity to highlight Elise's snobbery and racist attitudes. To be sure iy wasnt just Elise, Spanish born lorded it over American born of pure blood who looked down on those of mixed blood (measured to degrees) and all of that looking down was bolstered by custom and essentially the force of law.

But she is our prime resident exemplar of the phenenon.

As for romulo and Angela, it wasn't nice, but mistresses of lower class were probably rarely as well treated as Angela. Teresa knew it seems, but there was apparently an incredible amount of discretion if Angela could be surprised Lupe knew. (Hence her not taking possession of the jewelery, the mere sight of which in possession of a servant would raise questions of theft or tomfoolery.

Many thanks Juju!!

So much to be sad and frustrated about last night.

Jacinto still being able to charm Violeta and poor Nat's bro hearing their interchange. I know the girl thinks she could never really have anyone, so his attention makes her happy, but he's a creep.

Just when I was tolerating Felipe, he pulls the crap with Andres. And yes, poor guy looks like he's been in the same clothes--I'm thinking light sponge baths. I'd be screaming for a shower too!! But seems like Andres has gotten not only being having a foot healed, but growing a might fine spine. Putting Felipe to the wall...wooo.

The whole Sophia thing is horrendous and watching Isa, the Doc and Alfredo all stand there and let Teresa dictate made me want to hurt someone. I think Isa is slowly descending into shock with what every day she is discovering and seeing. Seeing Sophia tied to the bed...this is Teresa's idea of care and life for her daughter? She cried tears...yeah, for no one but herself. All her plans are falling apart.

I also foresee Alfredo just maybe deciding he will keep up the pretense of the being the baby's father---he needs those lands to sell. For that, as much as he seems like a good guy, the greed would mean if he's told the baby was Belen's and Andres', and he would keep it anyway...yeah, anvil dude.

As for the back story we've been waiting for: well, count me in on someone who felt that Rom did Angie no favors. It seems the classic tale of rich young dude falling for the servant girl, but in this case, they never sailed off into the sunset. Again, the business and the appearances had to be maintained. I guess at the end of his days he wanted to make it up to his son, and yes it seems bittersweet. But the guy was wrong and should have been able to do more for this "love of his life" and son then he did. Sorry.

Daisynjay

The wetnurse is indigenous. A show or two ago, they showed her speaking with Spanish captions translating. There are still communities around Pueblo that are primarily indigenous, Nahuatl speakers. Either way, Elise is a snob and would be a good target for the gold-knife killer.

Along with Felipe. Is tart to feel sorry for the dumb jerk, and then he does something so entirely uncalled for, like harass Andres who just wants to go potty like a normal person. But it looks like that coma cured Andres of his meekness. Good. He'll need his strength for whatever is coming up next.

Kelly

Daisynjay- Looks like we had the same thoughts about Andres. That coma did him good! Maybe Matilde can use comas as a cure in her hospital that she seems to be running all by herself with no help from Isabel.

Kelly

Agree about Andres. This doesn't seem like the same guy who took punch after punch in Genaro's bar - including punches from Felipe. I wouldn't recommend anyone take a swipe at him now!

My first thought when I saw Andres pin Felipe to the wall was " ah, Felipe, so not mess with your big bro when he's pissed." it really had the feel of big brother putting little brother in his place.

So hate to bring up the ick factor, but is Diego going to be messing with Cece (that was downright painful to watch, but at least they cut it)and then still wanting to get it on with Isa. Teresa and Cece may have a plan, but I don't think Deigo is in on it. He's still going to want Isa under his thumb I'm guessing.

Daisynjay

Diego can probably live with Isa's rejection as long as Cece as around - because Cece is a professional and might actually be able to wear him out. At least temporarily. But how long can that possibly last? Especially since, as Daisynjay points out, Diego isn't in on the plan and hasn't agreed to anything. (But I have to give Teresa a little credit here for actually doing something for Isabel, in her own twisted way. She could have just told Diego to get a better grip on his woman.)

Even if he does keep his pants on around Isabel, he'll look for other ways to manipulate and control her.

For example, how'd everyone like his passive-aggressive tactic of leaving the bottle of vegetable dye (fake virgin blood) out on the table for her to find? She knows the unspoken accusation: "you've rejected me, but I know you said yes to someone!" I thought he would confront her directly about it, but I guess doing it this way is his sneaky way of testing to see how she will react.

I wish she would just tell him the truth. "I did it with a waiter, and he was good! Way better than you!" Unfortunately then he would kill her.

I was also thinking that when she saw the bottle, I wanted her to splash it all over his side of the bed just to be nasty. Sure it's crazy, but what do you expect for a story that takes place in a manicomio? I think it's starting to rub off on me.

Quick comment: It's tragic what Teresa has done to Sofia. She has completely destroyed her.

I think Andres' turnaround was when he was told about the babies' situation from Belen. He made a bitter comment about the Alarcons to Julio a few eps back.

Finally finished the recap and comments. I have been so swamped this week at work. I've been too tired to watch the TN most nights, so have been behind most of the week. I didn't see last night's ep yet (except for part of the Sofia meltdown in her bedroom).

Thanks everyone this week for all the awesome recaps. And thanks to all the commenters, too. I find I'm beginning to look forward for this one to end---but only because I CAN'T WAIT to see what the writers have in store for Diego and Teresa, especially. Better be the most satisfying anvils ever.

Thank you Princess JuJu. I loved the scene of Alfredo taking the baby out for a walk and talking about birds. He would make a wonderful father.

How long will it take for Isabel to figure out that Andes is Romulo's son? I agree about these rich men taking advantage of the help. It's not like the help can just say no, and not worry about their jobs.

Sofia needs to stay contained until she's over her opium addiction. I'm not sure how long that takes, but she's going to be uncontrollable for a few days, at least. Teresa is stupid for not taking her away during it.

Ah, but Teresa is all about appearances.

Julie, your comment about "I did it with a waiter and he was good! Way better than you!" made me recall one of the best confrontations ever in a novela and it was a novela de epoca.

In the 1993 Corazon Salvaje there is a confrontation scene between Andres' mother and the nasty Aimee, about a third of the way through ep 18. Good stuff.

I think what Isabel should do about the bottle of blood is she should just not say anything. And then if Diego says something about it, she should just say she has no idea what it is, and thought it odd that he put it on the table. He has no proof that it was hers.

Thanks, Juju! Great recap! Hope your toe is on the mend.

Hey Princess Juju...Missed this recap yesterday. Often happens with afternoon recaps, alas. But enjoyed reading it this morning. I agree with every one else who finds the Romulo/Angela romance not not not romantic. Using your position of authority (ditto for doctors, clergy and therapists who seduce their clients) is abusive and unfair. Easy for a young servant girl to be dazzled by handsome, urbane "caballero" but hardly gentlemanly of him to take advantage of her and not use some kind of strategy to avoid impregnating her. What a tool.

Hope you'll be dancing the polka or the merengue soon on that healing foot.
