El Hotel de los Secretos #65, 4/27/16: The GKK Revealed, But Many Mysteries Still Remain

Part 1:

I’m starting to think the Gran Hotel guests have started coming to the hotel in hopes of witnessing scandal, and this morning they are not disappointed. The lifeless body of a guest has been found on the lawn, a maid has just freshly been murdered upstairs, and the proprietress’ daughter looks to be the culprit. As they mull this over tea and scones in the dining room, in runs the culprit herself—hands bound, and frenzied as she tries to escape the grasp of Detective Ayala. Well, breakfast just got WAY more exciting! They turn to watch the drama, absently sipping their tea and munching on their scones…

Teresa, still thinking there’s a way to put the scandal genie back in the bottle and salvage the “reputation” of her hotel and family, goes over to Ayala and Sofia and curses his methods. Ayala apologizes, implies he doesn’t believe Sofia killed the maid, but says he’s just doing his job and due diligence. He takes Sofia away as she yells that she didn’t kill the woman (we know she didn’t kill the second woman, but she sure as heck killed the first!). Teresa, Alfredo, and Isabel (looking on from a balcony), all seem affected by Sofia’s distress and predicament. Diego sees his blackmail opportunity slipping away, and Elisa is obviously happy to be getting rid of her Sofia problem. Julio sees Isa looking sad, and sympathizes.

GKK (or Faux GKK) isn’t done with his/her work, and goes upstairs to plant the hair trophies from the GKK kills in Sofia’s wardrobe.

That night in town in the cantina, looks like all this murder is getting to Julio, and he’s trying to numb his nerves and sorrows with a drink in hand, and Cecilia at his side. She’s trying to convince him that none of the horrors of the Gran Hotel are his business. His sister is dead, and he should move on and out, with HER. She knows the real reason he’s sticking around is Isabel, who for sure is right now finding comfort in the arms of her husband, Diego. Ceci is momentarily distracted by the shipment of new dresses for Melibea’s girls that she ordered. But she’s quickly back at Julio’s side to stake her claim-- even scaring off Violeta, who was just asking Julio about how Gabriel is doing. Julio shies away from Ceci's kiss. This ticks her off and causes her to start making a scene, which leads to an insult from one of the customers. Julio finds the best way to temporarily relieve his angst—by starting a bar brawl.

The next morning, Teresa watches the mass exodus of scandal-averse guests from her window; Julio, beaten and bruised, awakes to the kisses and caresses of Ceci; and Isabel awakes to the same from Diego. Downstairs, Gabriel has been given the job of polishing the guests’ shoes, and is doing a pretty good job, until horrid Jacinto arrives, removes the jar of polish and then attacks Gabriel! He grabs his face and stuffs shoe polish down the blind young man’s throat. Luckily, Andres arrives, and shoves Jacinto off Gabe, and all the way outside. Jacinto doesn’t back down, and turns his insults to Andres. Natalia and all the downstairs staff are angry and horrified by what Jacinto has done. Angela and Lupe break up the fight between their sons.

Eagle-eyed Ayala examines Bea’s body and notices that a lock of hair that wasn’t cut when they first found the body has now been cut. He demands that Dagoberto tell him if he left the body alone at some point. Dagoberto lies that he never left the body alone. Ayala then examines the knife wound. Bea’s wound is over 3 centimeters, while the GKK wounds are only 2 centimeters. There are two killers, and someone is playing a dangerous game, Ayala surmises. They are trying to frame Sofia as the GKK. “How many killers are there?”, wonders Dago. Ayala says he doesn’t know. They need to find the weapon that really killed Bea to figure out who killed her. They’ll continue to let everyone (and the killer) think they believe Sofia is the GKK, in order to smoke out the real killer. Nothing helps a cop more than a cocky criminal.

Ayala calls Isabel, and asks her for a special favor…

In the dining room, we meet the lovely dark-haired lady who was comforted by Felipe yesterday, along with her husband. As they dine with La Nena Limantour, we and Felipe learn that the wife has an interest in tales and operas about passion, romance and adventure. An interest her husband does not share.

Somewhere on the outskirts of town, Jorge and his/her gang are closing an arms deal. Mariano points out that the offering price isn’t high enough, but Jorge doesn’t care. She just wants to sell it all, and get the hell out of this damn town.

Isa is on the hunt for the info Ayala requested in the hotel director’s office, when Julio enters to offer his condolences about what’s happening with her sister. She doesn’t believe his sincerity, since she knows he believes Sofia killed his sister. They get past that and get back to sleuthing. Isa’s got another snoopy task, so she needs to hand the task of figuring out the sheet of music they found in Diego’s old bachelor suite to Julio. Perhaps they can get someone to play it, and then study the reactions of Diego or anyone else. Julio promises to find someone who reads music and get her an answer.

Olegario hands Elisa a check for her lands, that doesn’t make her unhappy. She says she has to consult with her son. He adds the condition that Alfredo resign immediately from his position as Director of the Gran Hotel.

Felipe flirts with the new guest on the lawn, trying to impress her with his (very limited) knowledge of romance novels. She catches him on his lies, and calls him out for his less-than-stellar reputation. Epic fail.

While packing a case for Sofia, Alfredo finds the hair trophies of all the GKK victims. He immediately realizes what it is, but also immediately believes it will: 1) prove the real killer is trying to frame Sofia, and 2) the hair trophies will prove Sofia can’t be the killer. If Xinema’s hair is there, that will mean Sofia has no involvement. The night Ximena was killed, was the night Sofia fell down the stairs and was attended to by him and others that whole night. It’s impossible that she killed and took the hair of Ximena. Sofia is innocent! He explains all of this to Elisa when she walks in, and stupidly trusts her to keep the hair trophies safe while he tries to contact Ayala. “Sofia’s life is in your hands.”

Dr. Vicario unhappily reports to Diego that the knife wound in his back is healing quickly and he’s the picture of health. Diego brags about the healing power of love he’s receiving from Isabel. Too bad he has to put up with her crazy family as part of the package. He calls out Sofia as being the craziest of them all. Doc Vic can barely hide his contempt as he points out to Diego that it’s not polite to speak ill of your wife’s family. Diego doesn’t care. The Alarcon, except Isabel, can all go to hell.

Julio enlists Matilde’s help in figuring out the sheet of music. She’s not thrilled to be waylaid from going to the hospital, and she has never understood musical people—it’s all too emotional for her. She reluctantly gives in, and she knows someone who can help them…

Isabel pretends to be waiting for Diego when he and Teresa enter the office. She plays the complacent and dutiful wife and daughter as Teresa complains about the worries her children are causing, and Diego pledges his love and support. She leaves to see about Diego’s meal. Diego can’t stop smiling. He tells Teresa his health scare was a blessing. Now he’s SURE Isabel loves him. Teresa gives him a patronizing half smile, that screams “poor, deluded fool.”

Alfredo calls the police station and learns Ayala is actually on his way to the hotel. He next goes to find Teresa, and overhears her and Diego speaking in the office. He hears Diego tell Teresa that his condition for helping Sofia out of her legal mess is Alfredo’s immediate resignation from the Director position. If Sofia gets out of jail before Alfredo resigns, they’ll never be able to get him out. Teresa agrees to his conditions, asks him to find a good lawyer, and then causally says they don’t need to rush, since it won’t hurt Sofia to stay in jail a few days. Alfredo turns away from his post outside the door in disgust.

Part 2:
Elisa pushes her lawyer to get going on the annulment. Sofia being in jail and accused of murder can only help their case. The lawyer agrees that it shows Sofia’s moral defect. Well, what’s he waiting for?! He says they can move forward on the civil separation, but the religious annulment will take more time. Elisa has no patience for this. She’s going to the capital right now to take care of it personally!

Ayala’s mission for Isa was to find out who repairs the gold items from the hotel. She goes downstairs and asks Angela, claiming she’s having something special made for Diego. As Ben passes by in the background, Angela tells Isa that the goldsmith in town takes care of all that for the hotel—Don Joaquin Priego. Angela writes down the info for her.

Matilde has asked Ignacio to help with the music, but it doesn’t seem to result in anything yet. After Ignacio walks away from the piano, Julio notes that he’s the best/nicest Alarcon he’s met yet. (Hey, what about Isabel and Andres?) Matilde agrees, then gets inspired to open the piano bench, where they find three more copies of the mystery music, Variaciones Enigma (Enigma Variations) in black folders. They pretend to be speaking of official hotel matters when Ben comes into the salon giving instructions to a waiter. They find mysterious numbers written on page 4 of the other copies: 18-0-8.

Elisa tries to burn the hair trophies, while listening to Wagner. Alfredo arrives just in time to stop her. He calls her a monster and storms out. He finds Ayala on the lawn and gives him the trophies. Ayala wants to know why they are singed and wet, and nearly has a fit when Alfredo tells him why. Alfredo explains his theory about Sofia being set up. Ayala also believes this, but wants Alfredo to keep it under his hat for now. Sofia is still their prime suspect. Alfredo will wait for word from Ayala.

Ayala then meets with Isa and gives her the good news of Sofia’s likely innocence. But the way to prove this, will have to be done in a very public manner. They go to the servants’ dining room, and very openly (in front of all the staff) examine the gold cutlery, of which there are nine sets. After the first murder investigation, there were eight knives left. But, despite finding a gold knife at Bea’s murder scene, eight knives still remain in the knife drawer.  Ayala declares that the killer has their own set of gold knives! They examine the knives, with Ben present, and Isa mentions that the gold cutlery originally belonged to her grandparents. Playing their game, Ayala surmises that with them being so antique and special, the hotel must have someone who repairs them if anything happens. Any of the family could be a suspect-- even Isabel. Ayala claims he needs to question her. Ben is clearly annoyed.

In her father’s office, Isa gives Ayala the goldsmith’s info. He’s sure the little bit of theater they just engaged in will bear fruit. He’s sure the killer will want to prevent them from speaking to the goldsmith at all costs. He’ll call Dagoberto right away to have him guard the house of the goldsmith (uh oh!).  Ayala speaks to himself and the GKK as he leaves the hotel. “You WILL fall/get caught!”

That evening, Julio brings the numbers they found in the music to Isa in Romulo’s office. They try them unsuccessfully on her father’s safe, then decide to try them on the safe in the secret room. But they need to get the sapphire necklace from Andres to open it. As they leave to go get the necklace, Julio is knocked unconscious in the doorway, and Isa is surprised the assailant is someone she knows. “You?!”

Diego happily waits for Isa in their suite, with a small wrapped gift. His good mood is instantly ruined when he gets an anonymous note that says his wife has a lover. He crumples the note and marches out of the suite.

The mystery person takes Isa to the woods at knife-point, and we see it’s BEN! Not a surprise. He tells Isa this is all her fault, for meddling when it’s none of her business; for her LUST with that servant; for digging up her own father; for believing in that imbecile detective who thinks he knows it all. Do they think he’s an idiot to believe their story about the goldsmith (el orfebre)? They don’t know him! He raises his knife to strike and Isabel screams.

Thank you, Vivi. Excellent! Will check back later for part 2.

Loved Ayala trying to flush out the killer. Great cliffhanger.

Hope that Jorge/Manuela doesn't just cut and run without Felipe. Maybe she can kidnap him on the way out of town.

We have to hang on 'til Fri to see who saves Isa, bet its Ayala.

PyP is 3 hrs tonight , the Gran Final, yea

When Dago was lying to Ayala about staying with Bea's body, he had his fingers crossed behind his back.

The fact that they have already revealed Ben as the killer (or one of multiple), when we have three weeks left, means there are still some BIG, nasty things to uncover. Surprises coming for sure.

How will Isa get out of this mess? Yes, let's hope Ayala was keeping an eye on her, since he involved her in flushing out the killer.

It's funny how in trying to frame Sofia, the killer has actually made people think she's innocent of both the recent murders.

I want to meet the goldsmith. Did he not think it was suspicious when this person (Ben?) ordered up a set of gold knives made, but didn't order spoons or forks too?

Good point, Vivi. We do have three weeks left so there is much more to be revealed.

Thank you Vivi. Part 1 of the recap is spectacular... can't wait for part 2.

How very odd for a serial killer (is it just Benjamin, or did he have a partner?) to give away his trophies, even to frame someone else... especially since the frame didn't take!

I really didn't think Benji would turn out to be a killer. I figured he was taking out all of his aggression punishing himself. I didn't think he'd have enough left over for other people.

So if PyP ends tonight and Yago doesn't start till Monday, what's on at 8 on Friday night? Are we going to get a double-shot of Hotel? Or is it some kind of PyP celebrity special like they used to do on Cristina?

Julie- I still think the hands (and the shoes) of the person who framed Sofia and put the trophies in the armoir, look a lot smaller than Ben's. I'm not so sure that the person who first killed and gathered those trophies, is the same as the person who planted them. I don't think we can make assumptions. All we know at this point is that Ben is one sick puppy! But so are Sofia and Diego. We've seen both of the other two kill. We haven't technically seen Ben kill yet. Maybe he's even protecting this mysterious son of his, and is just trying to deflect blame from him. We know his son used to live in the hotel, before Ben's wife died and his son went off to live with Ben's sister. He could know that hotel inside and out, and all about the gold knives. I think there are lots of possibilities.

Julie, yes "used to". I am not watching P&P but at least they are giving it a proper finale send off not like the last few I have watched that were cut to death even in the final episode.

You're right, Vivi. Maybe Ben's protecting his son, either because the son is guilty or Ben thinks he is. I've been rather annoyed that we've only ever heard about the son and never seen him, and maybe I'll even feel a little cheated if he turns out to be the killer - but it would explain a lot if Ben knew (or believed) his son to be the killer and maybe even committed some of the more opportune attacks himself.

It would make sense for the attacks on Diego and Pablo to have been done by someone other than the original killer - because both were sloppy and didn't result in instant death like the others.

You know, when the sheet music showed up I was hoping the Piano Man would come back with all his little dogs. But he is nowhere in sight. Drat!

Fri night is PyP, El especial, they wont let us cut they cord too quickly.

I hope its the actors & not a rehash of the TN

Gracias Vivi!

Grr, I am a patient person but sometimes certain people just push me into cursing mode. The unfortunate MF in this show is Jacinto. He has such an iriritating face that I would punch over and over again. He should be used as target practice. Too bad he was not wounded in the gunfight. Please Karma come soon for this hijo de **** and take him far and far away!!!

The curtains are finally up and I am that glad that Ayala did not fall for the bait. He is just gold , gold and gold! I would riot if something happens to Ayala or Matilde. Now I wonder how many members did the secret society have and what were their goals. I hope Ben remains alive so that he could be used as a witness.

Gracias, Vivi. I had to catch up with this before turning the rest of the day's attention to PyP.

Why is this doing so poorly in the ratings? This is such a good one I'd love to see another series with Det. Ayala. Great cast, great production values, so what's the issue?

Elise is some piece of work running Afraido's life the way she does. I hope her Karmageddon is to end up in a manicomio of her own.

Ben as the GKK is totally believable. Can't wait until tomorrow to see how this plays.

I also miss that nutty pianist and his dogs.

Great Vivi. Just great!

UA, I think part of the ratings issue is it's on at 10 for a large part of the country. You go through three hours of TN's before hitting this one, and truthfully, being deeper and darker might not be the way some want to end a night of viewing. This would have served well at 9:00.

The minute the hair samples were being put in the cabinet, and we saw those shuffling feet, knew it had to be Ben. Someone needed a key to get in the room and a little later we see Ben in the Dining Room with the same shoes and the slightly bagging pants. Now, do I think he's the only killer, nope. Maybe of the people who were totally disconnected to our regular characters ( or maybe this son you all already alluded to), but I think someone has used the GKK as a means to copy cat murders or attempts of some people that needed to be taken out of the way. I'm starting to wonder about Sophia since she knew the secret of Andres, knew about Cristina, etc. and would have done anything to make Mumsy proud.

How the h*** does Jacinto get to stay employed at the hotel after what he did. Andres should have marched straight to Alfie and had that idiot fired. Diego wants to keep him employed, fine, he can live in town. Natalee had every right to give Lupe that look.

So after our discussion yesterday, as if the writers read out minds, we had out montage where Julio and Isa were sleeping and snuggled all so sadly and dejectedly with their current others...pining away for their true love. So guess that answered that issue. ( Not much left to the imagination with Julio's pose.)

Poor Felippe shot down to be able to get back with Manuela another day. Dang, why do I want those two to get together so bad. They have totally won me over...two lost souls who need the other. Yeah, I have these moments of being a total sap.

Ayala is so fun to watch in this. His excitement in relating clues and findings is so fun to watch. But I agree...there has to be so much more to this and we are in for some major plot twists and moments for three weeks.Goody!

Daisynjay

I assume it is doing badly because people watched the original so they found the remake subpar which is a common sentiment among other remakes . Or because of football. Either way I have found the novela awesome with just a few flaws( Felipe) . I would love to see Jesus Ochoa (Ayala) in other novelas again, he would be great as an antagonist!

I too miss the pianist , I thought that he was part of the secret society as well. Almost no character is pointless in this story and I have always found his interactions with Diego to be mysterious and cryptic.

I don't think the 10PM timeslot works in its favor but what time is it airing in Mexico?

It's opposite El Senor de los Cielos here, a narco story. I hate that this sub-genre is getting so big.

Ugh yeah , I havent watched El Senor but the narco genre is just too popular. It's just drugs, girls and guns all the time. And the actors always look wasted. I guess I could consider myself lucky that El color de Pasion is streaming here in Slovenia alongside Muchacha Italiana.

Thank you Vivi. You back to a normal sleep pattern yet? The 12 hour time difference takes me almost a day for every hour to resume a normal pattern. Of course when I was younger it was much quicker but I admire you can write complete sentences, I couldn't.

"we know she didn’t kill the second woman, but she sure as heck killed the first!"

I could tell Julio was not into it but I still cannot with Isabel. Was she having a sad, yes but I want to see real revulsion. It's Diego dammit.

I'm getting angry with Lupe. Jacinto is allowed to terrorize this poor man and the only person that can boot him or have him booted is Lupe. It's possible Jacinto is the faux killer on Diego's directive.

I like Jorge way too much to have her life ruined by Felipe who hasn't learned a thing. Ride like the wind Jorge.

I predict (because I am so great at predicting, LOL) something horrible will happen to Felipe's new crush (he has that effect on people) and then he'll end up joining the monastery for real.

It would have to be an out-of-town monastery where they don't know his reputation. ;-)

Alternatively, he could become a fake priest and join that other guy at the Retreat for Nervous Ladies. As a bonus, if he hallucinates seeing people who aren't there, he'll have convenient access to an ice bath.

If an "incident"happens Mother Tere should fake reconcilation with Felipe only for her to send Felipe to the military. She will pay the military trillions and trillions of pesos to keep him as their pet effectivily bankrupting the Hotel at last. The revolution happens with Felipe returning with a blasted leg. As a result he gets palls with Gabries establishing an "Association of Cripples &Bastards" . With the subsidies from the state they renovate the Hotel into their own harem :)

Thanks Vivi. Can't wait for Part Dos.

I'm assuming CeCe left the note for Diego.

DIE JACINTO DIE.

Andres owns the hotel, doesn't he? I couldn't believe it when Jacinto punched him. I wished A had fired his a$$.

The look Nat gave to Lupe said it all.

If the person who planted the hair in Sofia's room is not Ben, could it be Belen? Or the doc? (noooooooooo!!!!)'

Nanette

Julie- I giggle at your idea for Felipe joining the other fake priest in "assisting" the nervous ladies. That would be right up his alley. But he'd also need to have free access to the wine cabinet.

Tofie- I'm still struggling to stay awake late, but yesterday I was struggling because I was out late for my b-day on Tuesday and then woke up super early on Wednesday. Not a good combo with jet lag.

Nanette- Has all the legal work been handled to hand over the hotel to Andres yet? I get the feeling that although people clearly see him as having rights because of his bio-dad's last wishes, it's not all quite tied up yet. But, I could be wrong. I'm not through all the episodes I missed yet.

Going to eat dinner and get back to finishing the recap soon, if I'm not too distracted by the PyP finale.

I didn't know it was your birthday Tuesday, Vivi! I hope it was a good one.

As I understand it, Andres owns the hotel, but the only matters on which he cared to exercise any authority were his mother's position and living quarters. Teresa offered a whiny token protest, which he shot down. But Angela nixed his demands.

Aside from that, he told Teresa he wasn't interested in taking anything away from her. So, I think he is the official owner - but is refusing to do anything, effectively leaving Teresa to call the shots while Diego was convalescing, so she gave Alfredo the director job. But you'd think Teresa would want something in writing, and not just take a moody guy's word for it.

What confuses me is Alfredo. I thought on Tuesday night he told Teresa he was signing his letter of resignation, but Diego is telling Teresa that he wants Alfredo to resign - so either I imagined the resignation, or Teresa is choosing not to tell Diego about it.

Julie- Thanks for that explanation. I don't think Alfredo handed over the letter yet. He got distracted by the murder thing. I think Teresa and Diego are afraid he'll once again want to ride to Sofia's rescue, and so will stick around and not give up the job after all.

And yes, I did have a good birthday. The celebrations continue this weekend. :)

Great recapping so far Vivi

I hope Felipe finds happiness with Manuela, but where is Mercedes? I have a fondness for bad boys & Felipe fits the bill. He has done some bullying at the cantina, that I don't like. But seems he just needs some sweet loving by someone he likes (loves) & he'll shape up, I hope.

I just knew it would be Benji but I don't believe he is the only killer, of course we know about Sofia & Bea, Diego & Garrido. Good God, this novela has its share of homicidal maniacs. Am I missing any of the known murderers.

List of dead QEPD
Ximena (?)
Cristina
Pedro
Beatriz
Garrido
criada (do we even know her name?)

attempt
Andres (twice)
Diego (too bad it didn't take)
& now Isabel

Have I missed anyone?
I hope to add Jacinto to the list, what a cruel person he is & his papa is so sweet, (we think)

Variopinta- Remember that Diego shot and killed Pascual.

Oh, and the GKK already attempted to kill Isabel before in town, and instead had to make due with a random man when he was nearly caught.

Happy Birthday, Vivi!

Thanks, Nanette!

Vivi
you must have a photographic memory, I just can't believe the things you recollect, wish I could.

I would love to see your Asia photos.

Variopinta- I just sent the link to you. :)

Thanks Vivi. It was late late late afternoon before I got a chance to watch this, and wanted to do so before I read the recap.

Teresa gives him a patronizing half smile, that screams “poor, deluded fool.”

Yessss! Lord, Diana Bracho is good at those killer half-smiles. She is doing a great job in her role, as is Daniela Romo as Andrea. For us Carayites, this telenovela is a delight, but I can certainly understand why it might not play as well in Mexico.

Love it that your birthday celebration is going to continue on into the weekend. You should be celebrated every day sweet lady.

I am adding a sad footnote as I have just heard from Emilia (Mike and Emilia...who have been on the blog off and on since Querida Enemiga). Their daughter Jennifer died today. Emilia and Mike consider many of you on CarayCsray to be friends and so she wanted to let you know.

Would that we only had to witness heartbreak and loss in these fictionalized stories and not in real life. But it is not to be. Wrap Emilia and Mike in loving and comforting thoughts tonight...they need them.

Judy- What?! I am truly saddened and shocked. I just sent Mike and Emilia an email this week, and thought it unusual I haven't heard back. My gosh! I just can't believe it. I will reach out to them. Please share any information you have about services and such.

Part 2 is up, everyone.

Thank you Vivi, and I appreciate you're explaining what Isabel and Ayala talked about, it was a bit confusing to me.

So I agree, there must be 2 killers. I think the original GKK is Benjamin, like I've been saying all along. But the other one who killed that woman and wanted to frame Sofia is someone else.My guess is it's Belen. Belen wants her baby, she will do whatever if takes to frame Sofia to get the baby back.

Happy birthday Vivi. I just celebrated mine last weekend.

Happy Birthday to you, Cathyx!!!

Nice to have a Part 2 to read on what would otherwise be a no-recap day!

Poor Emilia and Mike, no one deserves such heartbreak. :-(

Thanks Vivi for Part 2. I had forgotten about Elisa playing Wagner when she tried to burn the hair trophies. That was a creepily appropriate choice of music. She's almost an evil genius.

Variopinta, I miss Mercedes too, but I've lost hope that we'll see her again. Unless she changes her mind about Felipe being a monster, there's no reason for her and her father to return to the hotel - in fact, if they've heard about all the bad stuff that's happened there lately (two murders) I can't imagine that they'd ever want to come back again.

I think the point of the Mercedes & Eugenia story was to show us just how weak-willed Felipe is. As much as he supposedly loved Mercedes, he was unable to resist her sister. After Mercedes' accident and Eugenia's suicide, he was sincerely devastated by the harm he had caused, but was unable to reform himself in the slightest even after months of contemplation at the monastery.

So I think the Mercedes story is over and we're being set up for Manuela to be the key to Felipe's future if he doesn't get killed first, because Manuela might be the one woman who can keep him out of trouble!

Julie- I chuckled when Elisa had Victoria put on the Wagner while she burned the hair. I do like the sly humor in this tn.

Felipe certainly has resisted/ruined any and all chances to redeem himself. And life has given him MANY chances. When his father died and he thought he killed him, could have been a good opportunity to change. Instead he sank deeper into wine and women. Then he meets Mercedes, a woman who actually shared his zest and passion for pleasure, who loved him, and challenged him intellectually. He ruined it by sleeping with her jealous and insipid sister. His time in solitary contemplation with the monks could have been another turning point. He stole from them and ran off. Now he has learned he didn't kill his father, and has that burden taken off his chest. Once he also learns Jorge is not a man, will he take this opportunity to start anew and turn his life around? Past experience says he'll squander it.

Except it would have been better if it had been "Brunhilde's Immolation Scene."

Urban- True. :)

Anybody catch the avances for tonight? I can't remember anything.

Julie- They didn't give much away in the avances, which is pretty smart considering the cliffhanger.

Well then, I'm going to drop a big bombshell of a prediction: Isabel survives!

I hope she rescues herself, but that doesn't seem likely. Worst case scenario, she gets rescued by Die-eggo (say, where did Enoch go?) and has to express her gratitude to him.

Yeah, pretty sure Isabel will live. ;-) The question is, how will she escape, and what happens to Ben?

I guess there is no episode today because of PYP but tommorow will be better :) I think Felipe may recover but he may not be getting a loved one as a reward. I wasn't ever that interested in his story anyway. He just feels like a wasted character to me.His antics are funny but they don't add anything to the story except that he resented Andres and was at odds with Romulo.

Does anyone believe that Dr V may attempt to woo in Teresa? . I always wanted they would end up as a couple but Teresa is obviously too cold and manipulative for romance. She would only break his heart .

Will Nena Limantour ever get any useful plot? She is currently a witness alongside her pal against Olegario but that's about it otherwise she is a worthless existance and waste of space.

I am getting very annoyed by Elisa, she should suffer Karmageddon very soon. That woman is batshit insane, even more than Teresa. Yes you heard me. I would prefer Teresa over Elisa any day!

Julie- I just went looking on Uni's site to see if they had avances for tonight. Didn't find any, but did stumble on a short video of the head of costuming for this tn. I was surprised to learn that some of Isa's dresses are genuine antique dresses from the period that they have repaired. Very cool. http://tinyurl.com/hlmn7md

I can't load the video at work, but, oh, wow. I would have thought the dresses were repros. With all the makeup and sweat involved in acting, I am amazed that genuine antiques were used this way - I'd have thought they'd be kept in museums. (On the other hand, I imagine the cars are antiques too - and they are being driven like antiques!)

Thanks Vivi for Part 2.

So sad to hear about Mike and Emilia's Jennifer. I have one of her famous beanies. My thoughts go out to them and their family.

Vivi: Would love to see your pics.

Aha! Now we know why Isabel is never seen actually doctoring a patient. That can't risk getting even fake blood on her dresses. Or having her character move quickly enough to break a sweat -- except when she's (mostly) undressed and abed with one of her men. Makes so much more sense now.

Does anyone know what follows after El Hotel? Is it going to be A que no me Dejas or maybe Simplemente Maria or Las Amazonas? After PYP Yago will come to replace it. My bet is that Corazon Que Miente will replace El Hotel..

Count- Tres Veces Ana (Lazos de Amor remake) starring Boyer, Rulli, and Zapeda replaces Hotel.
