El Hotel de los Secretos #66, 4/29/16: Deathbed Confessions

What an episode, I'm so happy I got to do this one, but boy am I worn out!

We left off on Wednesday with Diego getting an anonymous note saying that his wife has a lover, and Benjamin dragging Isabel into the woods to kill her.

Diego runs to Matilde’s room, assuming that the note is true and Isabel is hiding out there. As he pounds and kicks the door down, Doc Vic pulls him away. Diego wants to know where Isabel is, but the doc says she never met him at the hospital. Diego continues on his rage as Teresa shows up wanting to know what’s going on, and the doc tells her that Diego is upset that Isabel didn’t meet him for dinner, lol.

Getting back to Ben’s abuse of Isabel, he smacks her across the face telling her to get down. He tells her that at this point, he has nothing to lose. He will rid the world of another maldito Alarcón. Isabel doesn’t understand why he’s doing this, he’s been like a father figure to all the Alarcón children. Oh, but he has only been pretending to like them, and all the while The Alarcón have been enslaving all the workers.
All of a sudden, as Ben raises his arm up to stab Isabel, a bright light shines on him and then a gunshot right to his chest. Julio and Ayala to the rescue. Julio, holding the gun, (where did Julio get a gun?) says “how did i do that?” hinting that his gun may not have been the one that actually fired? Ayala runs to Ben and says that he’s still alive, and chastises Julio for intervening in justice. Ayala wants Ben to stay alive so he can solve his mysteries.  As we pan out to the commercial, Jacinto appears from behind a tree. Hmmm.
Wow, what a lot of action in the first 4 minutes.

Diego is nursing his anger and his sore fist with alcohol. Just then, Ayala brings Isabel to their room telling him that she narrowly missed being killed by the GKK, the Gold Knife Killer. Diego is surprised to learn that it’s Ben who is the GKK. Diego takes this opportunity to tell Isabel that if anyone laid a hand on her, he would kill him, does she hear him? He would kill him!!!! That makes Ayala and Isabel look at him sideways.
Ayala takes his leave as Teresa and Doc come in. Doc dismisses himself to go to the hospital, and Isabel insists on going with him. Diego is royally PO’d.

Julio finds Matilde dining with Ignacio to tell her that there’s a medical emergency and he can’t find doc Vic, so as she gets up to leave, Ignacio forgets that Matilde wasn’t the one who wanted to get back together with him and he throws a mini fit over her leaving the dinner table. She goes anyway.
Ayala is letting Alfredo know what happened. This will free Sofia. Alfredo is relieved.

Cute, handsome (super sexy looking) Andres gives Isabel a couple of very 'relieved that she’s alive' hugs. The group leaves to go to the hospital and Andres proceeds to the dining room to tell Belen and Oleg what happened. Andres leaves to tell his mother, Belen wants to follow, but Oleg tells her to stay. They need to talk strategy. That Sofia is getting out of jail will be a problem for them now. (This is making me believe that the person who killed the maid and tried to pretend to be the GKK to frame Sofia, could very well be Oleg).

Teresa corners Diego in his office to ask if everything is going ok between him and Isabel. She reminds him that they need to get started making a legitimate heir to the Hotel throne. Diego wants to know why she’s bringing this up. Did she hear something? Tell him the name of the person who is trying to mess with his marriage.

Andres lets the crew know about Don Benjamin being the GKK. Angela is taking it hard.

Doc Vic stabilizes Ben so that Ayala can interrogate him. Ben tells Ayala to let Angela know that he did it for her. I knew it!! Called it!!. (Cathyx pats herself on the back).

Ben tells the story of how he killed Ximena, the first victim that we saw, those many weeks ago. He watches Filipe and Ximena getting it on in the hallway and then on to the pantry. As he watches them leave to get money to go to the cantina, Ben gets a gold knife to do the first murder.
Ayala wants to know why he does it on a full moon, Ben tells him that the full moon shows what people really are. He kills those who lie; the dirty, the sinners, those who deserve to die. Then he tells about the first maid he killed who was bribing Angela to keep her secret about Andres. He killed Rufino for the same reason; bribing Angela to keep quiet. Just as Ayala was getting to ask about Diego, he started losing breath, and doc came over to assist him. Doc tells Ayala to stop. But Ben retells how he overheard Teresa telling Diego that if she knew the outcome of Diego having a child with Belen and giving it to Sofia would mess things up so much, she never would have done it. She would have let the baby die that night. Ben says that Diego is the worst one of all. Ayala asks why he thinks that, but Doc intervenes again. Ayala insists though, who is Ben doing all this for? Angela, his love Angela!!!
Ayala wants to know if he killed Cristina Olmedo and Beatriz, no he didn’t. Who did it? Was it Sofia? Her, Ben says. Ben calls Julio over, he wants Julio to give Ben’s things to his son, and there’s something in there for Julio too. What is it? Something that will give you justice. Hmmm. Then Ben dies.

Alfredo goes to the jail to ask Sofia to forgive him for not believing her and to get her out.

Diego, still crying over Isabel’s betrayal, wakes up Cecilia, and in a rage with his hands around her neck, tells her that all women are the same, and throws her on the bed. I’m assuming he raped her.

Now back at the hotel, Julio asks Matilde to find out how Isabel is, and to give him a signal out the window. He can’t rest until he knows. She agrees, but she will come out to the garden to let him know. She goes up, tells Isabel what happened at the hospital, and that he tried to kill Diego too. But not Cristina. Matilde takes her to the window to see Julio.

The next morning, Angela informs the crew that Ben died, and Ayala tells them that he confessed to all the killings. They have his casket, I guess he’s getting buried somewhere on the grounds of the hotel. The nieces run into Julio to tell him that Cecilia has been hurt. He knocks on her door, she’s in bed with Diego. Diego asks who’s there, then threatens Cecilia to tell him to leave or he will hurt her some more. She tells Julio to leave, Diego doesn’t recognize his voice, but Julio leaves.

Sofia comes down to breakfast with Alfredo and Teresa. Filipe gives her a kiss, then Isabel arrives. She quickly tells Julio that she wants to talk with him later, then she sits down with them. It’s a great big family reunion. Too bad they don’t know they are hugging and kissing a murderer.

Diego runs out back to ask Jacinto who left the note in his room. Jacinto tells him he can’t read and asks what it says, lol. He tells him that he wants to know who left it, but thankfully Jacinto doesn’t just make up someone and tells him he doesn’t know. Well, his new homework is to find out who did, and to follow his wife. Does he remember Garrido? Well, Garrido failed him, and he should take that as a threat if Jacinto fails him too.

Belen and Oleg go back to her room to talk shop. Oleg, now with Sofia getting free and stupid Andres not going to cede his rights to the hotel or give up his ownership of the hotel, and Teresa wanting to do business with the NorthAmericans, they’re going to have to change their tactics. And if they get their way and win, Belen will have to give up thinking that she can get her child back. Belen gets up to leave, but Oleg stops her. They have to get the business side taken care of first, before her personal one.

Diego joins the family for breakfast with quite an attitude. Diego whispers to Sofia that he got the card, she asks what card, he replies that he hasn’t forgotten poor Beatriz and she better not be playing games with him. He orders breakfast as everyone is looking at him oddly.

Jacinto comes into the kitchen looking for everyone. He sees Angela, asks her where everyone is, she tells him they are at the burial, and to not talk to her in that nasty way.
He needs to have a meeting with everyone and he wants them all there. He hands her a piece of paper, wants her to answer the questions on it, then everyone comes in and hands out paper to the rest, under orders from Diego. Name, age, and city where they come from. Andres tells him that he’s the boss now, but Jacinto ignores him and continues.

Natalia is in Doc Vic’s room to see if he could help her with something. Jacinto asked her to fill out the questionnaire, but she doesn’t know how to write, could he help her? It’s on orders of Diego Montego. He agrees, she leaves, he writes with his left hand. Hmmm, now why did Doc Vic leave that note for Diego????? Why does he want to hurt Isabel in the process of hurting Diego? Does he think Diego wouldn’t hurt her?

Dagoberto hands Ayala a note. A maid gave it to him. It says for him to meet someone at a certain room, so Ayala goes to the room but hears the door lock. Belen is telling him where to go to look for the answers to all the crimes that have been happening. She gives him directions to where Garrido and the baby are buried.
The end.

OT: does anyone know if Yago is going to be recapped?

Thanks cathy! Ben did not murder Christina which would mean that it was a personal kill. My other main suspect is Belen or Garrido. We are back on square one :(
Diego sure loves to toss things around , too bad nobody did a counter of the broken things and souls. My condolences to all the broken and torn doors, vases, letters and glasses! You will be missed.

Did Diego rape Cecilia? EW, I hope Ceci gets revenge on him despite of me not being a great fan of Ceci. Atleast I liked when Diego showed Jacinto how reality looks like. I hope that Isabel runs the hell away when she figures what 2+2 is!

Is Ignacio supposed to be an ally or just a recurring prick?

My other main suspects are Belen and Garrido*

Nanette, I am looking forward to Yago very much although I wonder how will it surpass Ezel which was an wickedly awesome show that cannot be repeated. I won't spoil it but after a few episodes I got hooked on it although the saddest part is that It's hard to find the whole novela in good English subtitles. But still watching Flavio Medina on screen again will be amazing! I am sure it will be recapped because it follows after PYP.

Just catching up on Hotel, but clearly I nodded off at some point in a past episode. How do we know that Sofia did not kill Beatriz? She sure as hell stabbed her...at least in the episode that I saw. Are they saying now that that was just a flesh wound and Don Benjamin came later to finish the job?

I don't think they even suspect yet that Sofia killed Bea. It is the maid
that Sofia was found with holding the bloody gold knife, at least that is the way I understand it.

I'm sure Diego was responsible for Christina's death, Maybe Garrido did the dirty work.

Not only did Diego rape Ceci, he beat her.

Ok, recap is up.

Yes, Sofia killed Beatriz, Diego must have seen her do it, and he's bribing her over it. He wants her to make Alfredo cede control over the land to him.

Great job, Cathyx! This was a fabulous episode. Many mysteries solved, but many remain. Looks like we will finally meet Ben's son, and I'm not ruling him out as being a part of all these murders. Ben explained why he killed the people who were a threat to Angela, but not the other murders. By the way, it was Ximena we saw Felipe kissing in the pantry in the flashbacks-- not the married lady. Ximena was killed because drunk Felipe spilled the secret about Andres being an Alarcon and Angela being Romulo's lover to her.

It was obvious that Ben had the hots for Angela from the beginning by how deferential he was to her, and how he hated Lupe for having her favor. I'm surprised Lupe never ended up a GKK victim. But I guess Ben saved the knife just for those who could threaten Angela and her reputation.

But in the present, Felipe DID get to make out with the married lady by the trees, after her husband insulted her intelligence, and he couldn't follow through because he kept thinking of Jorge. Looks like NotAManuela has ruined him for all others.

Sofia lucked out that her being framed for the other murders has made everyone think she was framed for Bea's murder. But Diego hasn't forgotten, so her moment in the sun won't last long. At least she got Alfredo back (until he learns she murdered Bea and killed baby #1).

Thanks again Cathy! Why the hell didn''t Andres fire Jacinto over his callous, dimwit additude? Isn't he practically the owner now? Is it because of the promise that he did to Teresa, that he won't mess up her hotel? Do Andres and Teresa share the ownership or there can only be room for one owner? Recently I am believing that they are equals in power.

I suppose Ayala overblowned the fact that Ben admitted to all the crimes which would include Christina to keep the real killer of Christina in the loop. That was a genious idea but I am getting a feeling that someone will leak the information since Dr V, Matilde and Julio were also in the room during the confession.

I hope that Felipe's new romance doesn't end in tragedy, he only brings bad luck wherever he goes.

great retelling cathyx and a sincere thank you!

I get Ayala had no sympathy for Ben and wanted the whole truth but golly had he just backed off a bit. Why didn't Julio and Ayala head straight to Ben's room?

I'm astounded Jacinto is still in the house. It's stupid to allow that punk to mistreat the remaining staff and now he overheard Julio tell Ayala he loved Isabela and why he shot Ben. I thought Diego would be the first he told but guess he will hold on to that juicy tidbit.

Is Isabela blind and dumb? The whole world knows Diego is scum and she acts like he's just some guy she is dating casually waiting for the other guy to ask her to prom.

If Garrido killed Cristina why didn't he grab the letter. Hammer to the head, snatch letter, win.

It could have been Belen or Sofia or Felipe.

I want Felipe to be caught and someone string him up once and for all. He's worthless.

Thanks so much CathyX. You did a great job of yes, condensing and making sense of a jam-packed episode. There doesn't ever seem to be any filler in the el Hotel episodes, unless you consider Felipe and all his amorous, drunken adventures filler. I would be quite happy for him to run off with Manuela/Jorge and choose a life of living rough for love. He's certainly ruined enough womens' lives for one lifetime already.

Thank you, Cathyx, for a wonderful recap.

Utterly crazed Diego got most of my attention last night. Guess that the only time he was "really" worried about his wifey was when there might be public knowledge that he was being cheated on. What is good for the gander should be good for the goose. Too bad Isabel will never know how close she came to being suffocated and how Cecilia suffered at Diego's hands being beaten and raped as an outlet for his rage.

I am still waiting for Jorge/Manuela to gallop on by the hotel and pause just long enough to sweep Felipe off his feet and on to his/her horse and never to be heard from again.

Diego has the knife that Sofia used to kill Bea. He showed it to Sofia, wrapped in a napkin or sth similar. It would have Sofia's fingerprints.

At the family welcome dinner Diego sat beside Sofia & gave her kiss on the cheek, yuk

Thanks for that clarification Vivi, I will change it.

I believe Oleg was the one who killed the maid in order to blame it on Sofia. But who killed Cristina? Yes, it could have been Sofia too. Now that we know she is capable of murder, I don't put it past her. But I haven't come up with a motivation for her to kill her when she didn't take the letter either.

Thanks for the recap, cathyx!

Since Mathilde heard Ben's confessions, does that mean she knows that Diego had a kid with Belen and Teresa bought it to pass it off as Sofia's? Isn't that something she should maybe tell Isabel?? Or does Isabel not even care what a terrible person Diego is? I mean, she knows about her mother having Cece sleep with Diego, right? I just don't get why Isabel is in this marriage!!!

I am also utterly confused as to how Jacinto still has a job. Andres is in charge of everything now, isn't he?

Even though we saw the flashback of Ben overhearing the conversation about the baby being Diego's and Belen's, I don't think Ben actually said it out loud. He just babbled how Diego is the worst of all. That's why Ayala asked why he says that.

Yes, I was about to say that Vivi. I don't think he was as descriptive with words what we got to see from his flashbacks.

Cathyx: thanks for the great recap!

Kudos to this TN for not waiting for gran finale week to give us this majorly big reveal.

I really like you Lupe but I'm hoping that your son goes down hard.

I think CeCe might kill Diego. However, though I don't like her, wouldn't want to see hang.

More later. Gotta eat.😉

Nanette

I get the doc can't stand Diego, but I'm surprised he'd put Isa in the line of fire like that. It does seem he's kind of mad at her for marrying Diego, though.

Belen is going to turn into a drunk.

I thought Oleg said Sofia being arrested was going to complicate things, but now he's saying her being released is going to do that?

I was hoping Felipe would fantasize about Jorge when he was kissing the female guest.

Count: looking forward to seeing Flavio again. I heard he did a great job in his last TN. I remember him from Amor Bravio.

Oleg wants Elisa to go in with him to sell the property surrounding the hotel that she owns to oil barons. And he wants Andres to do the same with the hotel. Alfredo wants to sell to NA developers for the countyclub with the hotsprings instead. But if Sofia were in jail and they got divorced, Alfredo would leave and not come back, thereby Elisa would partner up with Oleg. So now Oleg has to replan what he and Belen are going to do in order to get the hotel and land. And don't forget, now Diego is holding the lands surrounding the hotel over Sofia's head because he knows she killed Beatriz.

Cathyx: my head's about to explode.

Nanette: I agree about Flavio, he is the next best villian in this era. He was a hoot to watch alongside Sophie Alexander and Rosa Maria Bianchi in Yo No Creo. As far as Yago I hope that it is going to be something original and not a copypaste of Ezel. Ezel is something unforgetable , it is considered to be a masterpiece among other Turkish series. I watched some of the episodes and I thought that it was that unique to the point that I thought that it cannot be remaked at all. It's not something that can be explained, you would have to watch it yourself.

Lol, Nanette. After reading what I wrote, I don't blame you.

Cathyx: it isn't what you wrote! It's what you wrote about. So many plots and counterplots.

Count: I'll have to check it out. I read that Yago is based on that TN and The Count of Monte Cristo. I love The Count of Monte Cristo so I'm excited to see this one.

Yeah Nanette. It is a nice show so it doesn't even bother me that each episode is 1 hour long.

Speaking of the Hotel, I am wondering who else was in the secret society. It was maybe Diego since he is a complete mystery from the begining. We don't know anything of his life outside the hotel. All most likely began with the letter that Christina gave to Diego. Diego previous occupation was said to be a driver( Just like Jacinto) . I wonder how Teresa found out about the letter being in Diego's possesion.

Thanks, Cathyx! I can understand why you were worn out - dying criminals sure are chatty and Ben had plenty to confess to.

I think the casket was for the last maid who was murdered, not Benjamin. Benjamin will probably be buried next to his wife, wherever she is.

It says something about Dominika Paleta's performance that I still feel sorry for Sofia even after all she's done.

I think the reason Andres doesn't fire Jacinto is because firing him wouldn't get rid of him - he is still Lupe's son. And he could still stay on as Diego's personal employee if Diego so desired. Else, Lupe might feel that he has to quit, and no one wants that.

Nanette, I think Belen is going to turn into a drunk too. Maybe she will fall down those predatory stairs and break her neck.

I'm very late to the party again. Just finished catching up on EHDLS. What a week! Many thanks to Julie, Jardinera and Vivi for their excellent and entertaining recaps of last week. Thank you Cathyx for your great retelling of this eventful episode. You captured all the important details and I'm glad you got this episode! It was exhausting just watching it!

Don Relojito was bonkers to the bitter end! I suspected he was the killer since that episode where they organized a fancy dinner for the President's adviser and the camera focused on Benji's face and nervous eyes darting side to side. However, as many of you pointed out, there are other unsolved murders, most importantly, the murder of Isabel's father and Julio's sister. My money is on Diego for the former and Belén for the latter.

Jacinto needs to get punched in the face pronto.

Dr. Vicario intrigues me. I won't even venture a guess as to what his game plan is, though I still think his hatred towards Diego is related to his deceased (murdered?) daughter.

Crazy Sof, Alfredo and Elisa are confusing enough, if you throw Diego, Olegario and Belén into the mix, plusb the priest and the dodgy-looking lady from the convent, you get a wickedly entangled mess and I get a headache just thinking about it!

Great show, greater patio! Thanks again, cathyx! :)

Thanks, Nanette! This made me giggle: "Jacinto is the evilest little p***k on the planet!!!!"

:)

-- Nanette: I'm keeping your sister in my thoughts! Todo va a salir bien. Stay strong and positive! Much love and light to both and a massive bear hug! :)

Nandicta: thank you!

Vivi: I usually don't use words that bad on the blog--don't want to offend anyone--but Jacinto annoys the . . . HECK out of me. I hate his pouty/mean/freak-eyed face. He needs a big time anvil. I do NOT want to see him redeemed.

(I grudgingly admit that if he was a nice guy I'd think his eyes were beautiful).
