EVA

Thank you novelera. Perfect! I've got to run off early this AM, but wanted to express my appreciation.

How can Marlene pretend she didn't recognize her own brother (and partner in crime & perhaps other things, yuck)? She claimed the video was blurry, but even I could recognize Andy. She ought to be looking into Plan B at this point.

Hooray for Enrique! They've tossed quite a few red herrings in our path lately, but the general trend is looking better for the good guys. They've also set us up to be on the edge of our seat when anything good happens, like los Mogollón sharing those sweet family moments together. Fortunately Soraya got through this episodel without another corazonada.

Also, wouldn't they have to bring the child molester to trial and re-try whatsername in the prison? Martin's promise of a release within days has me a little nervous.

Eva

Terrific recap, novelera! Thanks very much. I really enjoyed last night's episode, at least when I wasn't holding my breath during the Mogollons' trip. The writers really knew how to play with us, from Esteban's repeated offer to drive to Bobby's going with them (and driving) to everything going so well in terms of PanchoPan and Bobby's relationship to Pancho and Soraya. Everything made me fear that Something Would Happen on the road. Oh well, it's not just telenovelas that do this to me: my Imagination of Disaster is almost always overactive, much more so (and less accurately) than Soraya's corazonadas.

Like LXV, I couldn't imagine how Marlene could claim not to recognize her own brother. It seemed to me that the video was admirably clear. I hope this lie comes back to bite her.

I loved the scene with Cintia and Robert watching Pancho on TV, including Pancho's looking right at the camera and vowing to see the saboteurs go to prison. Loved Cintia's freaking out, and the horrors she has heard about prison, like the food being disgusting.

One question: why did Bobby toast with water when Pancho, Soraya, and the lawyer toasted with champagne?

I'm still a bit nervous about the outcome of Eva's trial. However, the announcement that the telenovela will move to the 8 PM time slot as of next week also says that Eva will be beginning a new stage in her life, and I don't think that refers to her life as a prisoner. She's been there, done that. So I'm mildly optimistic that she'll be found innocent.

(Oh, BTW, your headings for the recap say Viernes rather than Lunes.)

Eva. Another superb and very thorough recap, novelera! I too found Cintia's objecting to prison based on the quality of the food hilarious--a remark that completely captures her character! I am starting to wonder if Bobby's life could now be in danger, as they drive back following the demand by the Monteverdes that they be "taken care of." I also loved how Pablo said that Evencio was becoming his household's pet (mascota--it's funnier in Spanish). In the courtroom I thought there was some more sloppy writing. All of a sudden the judge is stupid again. He said that Pablo had presented opinion, not concrete evidence, but there was lots of concrete evidence--from Fajardo's logistics to Enrique's testimony, to the videos and testimony of Sofía fleeing obviously male killers. There was so much lying body language on the part of the other Mon-Sol employees that I think it's past time for the judge to tell them that they had better come clean or risk a perjury charge. Bobby can't drink champagne because he's not 21, this is the US, and Pancho's lawyer, as a lawyer, is technically an officer of the court.

EVA

Yikes. I thought I was so clever putting Lo de Viernes in the first part in case Viewerville's memory had gone kaput during the weekend that I called the whole thing Viernes.

Is this fixable by either of you stalwarts, Juanita or LXV?

I don't have time this morning to put my recap in the ash can and re-post.

SpanProf, I also thought it was a PSA, if a bit ridiculous, that Bobby couldn't have a couple of sips of champagne with his parents.

EVA & GENERAL

novelera, it appears the only thing I can do is copy your posts, trash the originals and repost with corrections (under my name, but with credit to you). I'm not sure that's even a good solution. I for one, understood completely what was going on and it was confirmed by Juanita's and your comments. It's a simple, very minor screwup and does not at all detract from your wonderful recap. I'm still at work and so can't conveniently undertake this until about 6:30 pm. I'll do it if you wish, so let me know.

LXV - Never mind. I'm going to trash and re-post myself.

EVA – LUNES – Parte 1 de 2

Lo de Viernes: Marlene gives Eva an evil smile saying “You know we’re going to be a family, right?” We see Eva arrive to stop Adriana from getting an abortion. We see again the rescue of the stepdaughters by Pablo, JJ, Marisol and Martín.

We begin tonight’s episode with Pablo asking Fajardo, his ex-partner, to repeat what he said a moment ago in the courtroom. Fajardo: ¡Ella no lo hizo! The prosecutor tries to fix the damage. He says that these things are hunches, but Pablo points to the white board where Fajardo drew a sketch of the Mon-Sol offices. He states that Eva couldn’t be in two places at once. The prosecutor asks, dripping with saracasm, if Pablo has any idea who did do it. Pablo says he does have an idea, but that will come at the correct time.

Adriana has told her father she’s pregnant. He asks if she’s not too far along to abort. She tells him she felt the way he does before, but her mother convinced her otherwise.

Pancho and Soraya are preparing to drive alone to Arizona. Esteban tries a couple of times to offer to drive them. Pancho’s attorney runs up with a file that contains lab results proving that the sausages were contaminated as an act of sabotage. Pancho and Soraya are overjoyed.

Martín comes to tell Camila that Nicolás Chávez was arrested yesterday for trying to rape his current step-daughter and that Camila will be freed with in a few days.

I’m not sure where the writers are going with Pancho and Soraya driving to Arizona. It seems they’d be safer from Andy in a plane. Anyway, Bobby shows up and says he wants to go to Arizona with them.

Adriana is disgusted with her father when he says that having Fabiola is a martirio for him. She tells him he’s a bad person. His face falls.

Betty’s little visit to the courthouse didn’t work. Evencio has decided to testify. He is being questioned by the prosecutor. He swears that the only time he left Eva alone was to let the police in. It would have been impossible for her to have gotten out of the building and hidden the weapon. The prosecutor goes on to say that he, Evencio, then must be the killer. Evencio gets to see Betty proven wrong as Pablo jumps to his feet yelling that the prosecutor is playing dirty and that Evencio had no motive to kill Sofía.

We get a happy scene of the Mogollones on the road trip. Bobby is at the wheel and says that getting to know his real parents is priceless. Pancho tells him how he started out as a waiter in a Chinese restaurant.

Cinthia and Robert discover Bobby having gone with his real parents. Robert says Bobby is a damned traitor.

The prosecutor questions Armando, who lies through his teeth. He testifies that he loved Sofía and planned to marry her. That was all the prosecutor wanted to hear. When it’s Pablo’s turn, he reminds Armando of his prior testimony that he no longer loved Eva. Pablo goes on to state that Eva was heard on the loud speaker asking him for a divorce and Armando saying that he’d never give her one. Pablo also mentions that the argument was started because of Eva’s finding some of Armando’s undies with a lipstick mark on them [lots of excited whispering in the courtroom at this].

Pablo: “If you really wanted to marry Sofía, why didn’t you take advantage of this opportunity to get a divorce?” Armando lies some more. But Pablo says that he himself was there and heard the fight over the loudspeaker. The judge rules that Pablo can’t testify about that since he’s the attorney for the defense.

EVA – LUNES – Parte 2 de 2

Armando goes back to Mon-Sol and, over Marlene’s objections, announces over that same loud speaker that he’ll fire anyone who testifies about the argument he had with Eva.

At Casa Mogollón Eva and Pablo have a cute conversation about their future. Eva says it would be extremely difficult for her to move in with him, bringing along Adriana, Fabiola, Bertha, and the expected baby. After all, at Pablo’s house there’s already Pablo, Martín, Evencio, Diego, and lots of dinosaurs!

Pancho tells Bobby, after they arrive in Phoenix, that being a business owner means not just getting money but having a responsibility for your employees and their families.

Pablo calls Javier to question him about the argument over the loudspeaker. Javier lies. And then one after another Mon-Sol employee lies and says they never heard that argument over the loud speaker. But then Enrique, the friend of Evencio, testifies that he heard Eva tells Armando she wanted a divorce and Armando say that he’d never give her one. He goes on to say that Armando just threatened the employees with being fired if they say what they heard. Armando reveals an interesting side of himself by jumping up and trying to beat Enrique.

Things appear to go well when Pancho and his lawyer meet with the lawyers of the victims of the contaminated sausages. The evidence of the laboratories is shown them.

On the stand Marlene denies having heard the argument over the loudspeaker. But she says she heard Eva threaten to kill Sofía. He asks if she knew of Armando’s affair with Sofía. He brings up again her betrayal of the woman who saved her life by running to Armando’s side.

Pablo shows the video of Chivo and Andy in the hospital the day Carmen died. Marlene denies knowing who they are. We then see Andy being served to appear at Eva’s trial. He refuses to sign, and the process server takes a cell phone picture of him with the subpoena.

Pablo states in court that the guy in the video is Chivo and the other is Andrés Palacios, who shared a cell with Chivo.

Pancho makes an excellent speech at a press conference about his having been the victim of sabotage. But he offers to pay the hospital bills and other costs for the victims. He says he knows who did this, not caring that they might kill someone. He says he won’t rest until they are behind bars. Cinthia and Robert are watching on TV and Cinthia freaks. She states that she’s a blueblood and can’t go to jail.

La Alacrana sends Javier to find out why Armando is holed up in his office. Andy shows up, completely freaked out that he might end up back in prison because of something that might happen at the trial.

Armando is drinking in his office. He invites Javier to have a drink with him. He tells Javier that, if he could turn back time, he’d change two hours in his life. First the night that he went to bed with Sofía and second the night when he let Marlene insert herself into his bed. Since then everything’s gone to hell. He goes on to say that he’s had a thousand women [!!] in his life, but he only loved one, the one who’s tattooed in his soul and on his skin. “Let’s drink to Eva Soler!” [Isn’t La Alacrana going to love this when Javier tells her!]

The Monteverdes come to see Marlene saying they need to get rid of the Mogollones right now.

Eva

I plan to have a recap posted by late tomorrow (Wednesday) morning.

TELEMUNDO...

"Eva la trailera" completed filming on Monday.

"La esclava blanca" a familiar face, Miguel de Miguel who was Teo Aljarafe in "La reina del sur".

EVA LA TRAILERA - MARTES - Parte 1 de 3

We begin with Robert and Cintia Monteverde in Marlene's office. They're desperate after seeing Pancho say on television that he knows who is responsible for the sabotage of his company and he won't rest until they are behind bars. They want the Mogollons dead. Marlene agrees that it would be best if the Mogollons are killed before they return home from Arizona. Cintia says they can't hurt the Mogollons while they're on the road because Bobby is with them. To Andy, this is not a problem: they can get rid of all three of them. Cintia is livid: "Don't you touch my son!" (¡Con mi hijo no te vas a meter!) Andy says he was just kidding. Marlene tells Robert and Cintia that they should find a way to bring Bobby home at once, apart from the Mogollons. "Make him feel guilty or something." Marlene also mentions that Andy won't be part of this operation, since he has to appear in court today. Andy assures them that this will not be a problem, since he has contacts all over the place.

The scene shifts to Martin and Federica. Federica is delighted to hear that the man who molested Camila years ago has been caught as he tried to molest his more recent step-daughters. This should result in Camila's soon being set free. What about Virginia, asks Federica. That's a more difficult case, says Martin. Virginia was the owner the the pharmacy, and it was shown that drugs were sold there without prescriptions. As the pharmacy owner, it would be difficult for Virginia to claim innocence, says Martin, but perhaps she can be released conditionally for good behavior. Federica agrees that being free is the most important thing.

Pablo is having doubts about his conduct of Eva's trial. Eva tells him that the most important thing is that he showed that she could not have committed the murder. She also talks about their life together after the trial is over, and merging their two households, dinosaurs and all. It would be a paradise.

A drunken Armando, too, is thinking about paradise, the paradise that he had with Eva. He tells Javier that he's had thousands of women, but almost all of them were simply after his money. "Only one wanted me for who I was: Eva." Perhaps for consolation, he takes Javier off to one of those seedy antros Armando seems to know well.

Andy is on the stand at Eva's trial. Pablo asks him "Did you kill Sofia Soler?" Andy replies "Why would I want to kill her, I didn't even know her." Pablo points out that it's very strange that Andy seemed to turn up at the same places as Sofia. He shows Andy (and the court) the same video of Andy and Chivo running into Sofia. Andy said he was visiting a sick friend at the hospital. [At least he didn't say he didn't recognize the men in the video, as his sister had done.] Pablo asks who that friend is, and warns him to be careful not to lie, because it's possible to check to see who was registered in the hospital at that time. The prosecutor objects, saying he doesn't see the point of Pablo's questioning. Pablo responds that he's trying to show that Andy and El Chivo were involved in the deaths of both Carmen and Sofia Soler. Moreover, they were just the hired killers, working for the person behind the killings. "And that person I am confident we will discover today." The camera focuses briefly on stone-faced Marlene, and then the scene shifts.

EVA LA TRAILERA - MARTES - Parte 2 de 3

Marisol tells Betty about catching the child predator, and how good she feels about it. Betty claims that she too had chosen her career to help people, but look at her now, and all because of that desgraciado Pablo and that estupida Eva, whom I hate with all my power. Marisol advises her to relax and not talk about this topic. There's then a knock at the door. Two men enter and tell Betty that, as she knows, the time has run out on her long overdue rent. She has to vacate the premises right away. [I'm not sure about this, but Marisol seems to have arranged for Betty's possessions to go into storage, and I think she also offers to lend Betty money and have her stay with her for a while.] Betty seems really out of control, screaming over and over again that she detests Eva.

Back at the trial, the prosecutor asks to call to the stand one more person: Eva Soler. Pablo whispers to her to stay calm, he's going to try to drive you mad (Va a intentar sacarte de tus casillas). Eva says she will remain calm, even though she doesn't feel calm. The prosecutor tries to get her goat, but Eva remains calm and composed as she explains once again that she went to Mon-Sol that night because the accountant had called to say that he had something important to tell her and he asked that they meet at Mon-Sol. However, it was a trap.

After the prosecutor has finished questioning Eva, it's Pablo's turn. He does an impassioned and excellent job of pointing out once again the evidence for her innocence. She's the last person to testify. The case now goes to the jury. The judge asks to see Pablo in his office.

Robert and Cintia carry out their plan to get Bobby to return immediately. Cintia calls Bobby and tells him she has taken all the pills she has. She wants him to know that she loves him very much, but she knows that he has contempt for her, and she couldn't continue living like this. Robert then takes the phone from her and tells Bobby "It's all your fault that your mother is dying, you cretin, Come back here right away!" Bobby tells Pancho and Soraya that he has to go back right away, his mother has tried to commit suicide and it's all his fault. Pancho and Soraya assure him that it's not his fault, that it's likely she hasn't tried to commit suicide, that his parents are liars. Soraya says that his mother is a manipulator and that it's puro gua gua gua, an expression I don't know but I assume means something like "it's utter nonsense." (???) Bobby says he has to go, he'd never forgive himself if he didn't and she died. They understand, and after a very moving scene in which all express their love, Bobby leaves. The music suddenly becomes discordant, giving me a bad feeling about what willl happen to Pancho and/or Soraya now that Bobby is no longer with them.

Back at the Monteverdes, Robert is berating Cintia for having plastic surgery and for spending too much money. Cintia assures him that soon they won't have to worry any more about money (i.e., once the Mogollons are dead and Bobby has inherited their vast wealth).

The judge clearly likes and admires Pablo but tells him that he has too many centers of focus. He has to learn to prioritize. Pablo again tries to explain his attempt to prove a conspiracy that involves not just Sofia's death but Carmen's as well, but the judge doesn't understand this. He advises Pablo "less theater, more focus." As Pablo leaves, the judge says "I don't know what the jury will decide, but I hope it will be the best and the most just. I wish you all the luck in the world."

EVA LA TRAILERA - MARTES - Parte 3 de 3

Bertha keeps talking about how nervous she is, and why is it taking so long for the jury to reach a verdict. Eva too is nervous, both about the jury's deliberations and about the fact that Adriana hasn't arrived at the court.

Adriana has had a medical exam regarding her pregnancy. Adri keeps asking whether everything is normal, and whether they can do tests to determine whether there are any problems. The sympathetic doctor tells her that everything seems fine and asks Adri why she is so apprehensive. Adri confesses that during the early part of her pregnancy, she took drugs. The doctor tells her that she doesn't seem like a drug addict, and if she only took drugs for a short while, it's possible that no harm was done to the baby. There are tests that can be done, but Adri is only five months pregnant, and she needs to be in the third trimester before they can do the tests. (I thought the tests are done earlier than that.) The doctor concludes this PSA by urging Adri to do exercises, eat well, and stay calm. The baby will be OK.

Adri then goes to see Fabiola, who has been making some rather impressive designs. Adri tells Fabi that she is pregnant, she's going to have a baby. Fabi looks a little puzzled and asks where the baby is. Adri points to her belly. "Did you eat it?" Fabi asks.

Adri goes into a church, tells God He knows she doesn't come here often, but she prays that her mother be found innocent and the baby be healthy.

At the courtroom, Armando approaches Eva and wants to talk with her about their daughters. Martin prevents Armando from getting any closer to Eva, and Eva tells Armando that whatever he has to say can be said in front of her lawyer.

Andy gives instructions to someone who is sitting in a big truck watching Pancho and Soraya drive up. "Follow them, and then give their car a big push." Uh oh.

Perhaps not surprisingly, Soraya is palid and says she doesn't feel well. This doesn't seem to be a corazonada, but perhaps it is. Or perhaps it's just a way for the novela to show how wonderful Pancho is at cheering her up and making her feel good. The next scene with them shows them relaxing naked in bed after a clearly satisfying bit of sex. Pancho asks whether she's ready for a second round. Only a second? she asks. Pancho says OK, a third, a fourth, a fifth.

Bobby arrives back in Los Angeles and enters Cintia's hospital room. "What happened to your face?" he asks, seeing her in what is supposed to be a bandage but looks more like a scarf or a large handkerchief wrapped under her chin and around the outside of her head. Cintia tells him that when she took the pills, she fell and broke her cheekbones (pomulos), so she needed to have plastic surgery. [There's no sign of any surgery.]

The trial has dragged on throughout the entire episode, but finally the jury returns to the courtroom. The judge asks whether they have reached a verdict. The jury forewoman says they have: they have decided that there is reasonable doubt, and they therefore find Eva Soler innocent. Viewerville cheers, and the episode ends.

Eva. Excellent and very thorough recap, Juanita. I frankly thought Pablo was better organized and focused than the fiscal was, but oh well, the important thing is that the judge likes him and has a generally high opinion of him, something that should prove helpful in his legal career. The farewell scene between Bobby and the Mogollones has all the earmarks of a final farewell. I know the Mogollones are targeted, but I certainly hope that the writers are just teasing us and that Pancho and Soraya survive whatever attempt is made on their life. Adri's doctor was very reassuring. Does this mean that Adriana is apt to carry the spawn of Satan to term? The scene between Adriana and Fabiola was very cute! I think it probably ended with Adriana explaining a few basics of the birds and the bees. I'm very glad that the police have now decided to investigate who really killed Sofía and to find out if Carmen's death was also a murder. Marlene should be worried, but probably isn't. She really seems to think she's invulnerable.

Eva

Great recap, Juanita. You got it all. I don’t know what puro gua gua means either. I didn’t get any results googling it either.

I guess every TN character has to have a friend so that they can divulge their thoughts to Viewerville, but Marisol is one of the most long-suffering that I’ve seen. Of course the writers have to emphasize that Betty is still out for revenge, and I doubt we’ve seen the last of her attempts to ruin Eva’s life. But it’s really absurd that she’d have NO savings. Judging by the size of her belly (not very big) it hasn’t been that long since her downfall after Eva’s release. Marisol was trying to tell her to pull up her socks and get on with her life, but she’d rather blame Eva for everything.

I am SO relieved they gave us the verdict. I was fully expecting a cliffhanger at the end of the episode.

I sincerely hope they are just messing with us about Pancho and Soraya. They’ve laid it on thick, haven’t they? They’ve constantly shown how good they are, how grateful for the relationship with Bobby, how much they love each other. Sure looks like getting ready for something bad. Fingers and toes crossed it will just be an injury for one or both on the highway.

I loved Fajardo and Pablo basically warning Andy the Asqueroso that their eyes were on him. Of course, he probably can’t be blamed for whatever is going to happen in AZ because he’s in CA and has other guys doing his dirty work.

I was disappointed that Bobby didn’t realize what Cinthia had was plastic surgery. I’m sure she’s “had some work done” before and he should have recognized the signs.

Eva. Hi, novelera! Sometimes Bobby is a little slow on the uptake--for reasons of plot, no doubt--but I expect he's going to realize Cintia's deception sooner rather than later--especially since she doesn't actually have any bandaging or swelling on her cheekbones.

General. Latin Times online (google Eva la trailera telemundo) has a brief article explaining the changes in Telemundo's program lineup.

Hello everyone. Anyone heard from our Vivi? Or she forgot us living it up abroad. I am not jealous Vivi just missing your wit.
Romy

Eva

Muchas gracias, SpanProf and novelera, for your very kind response to the recap and your great comments about the novela. Count me in as another person keeping fingers, legs, and eyes crossed in hopes that Soraya and Pancho survive whatever evil the Monteverdes and the Palacios have planned. The Mogollones are quite possibly the most likeable and in some ways the most original characters in the novela. It's hard to believe that the writers would kill off either of them. Then again, I haven't found much reason to trust the writers.

Thanks, novelera, for trying to find a translation of puro gua gua gua. I guess for the moment it will have to remain one of life's little mysteries. And thanks, SpanProf, for the reference to the Latin Times article about the time shifts. I haven't been following the comparative viewing numbers, but I'm surprised to learn that Telemundo thinks its novelas can/should have more viewers than Univisión's. Univisión is much more widely available; indeed, one can get it even without having a cable subscription. I don't think that's the case with Telemundo (except the day after on the computer).

Eva. Could puro gua gua gua just mean "nothing but complaining" in a silly and juvenile way? gua gua gua could be wa, wa, wa like a baby crying.

Eva. Or whining.

Eva

Good guess, SpanProf on gua gua gua.

I've heard that Telemundo is available in much fewer areas than Univision. Some people on Caray have said they don't get it at all. I get both channels on the regular channel lineup, not cable (I have DirecTV). Uni is on Ch 14 for me and TM on 48. But I also get TM on 406 and 407, one East Coast time and the other Pacific time. But I think that California may have a critical mass of Spanish speakers so as to warrant having the channel available for people who don't have cable or a dish.

I'm back in Spanish class tonight, so it would be really nice if someone could put up a couple of brief lines about the show to stimulate comments.

Eva

I'll try to do the recap tonight,
thanks all for holding the fort,

I especially liked last night how Pablo was worried about technical lawyering and Eva explained that how he was doing things made it easy for her to understand, and if she was following it, so was the jury,

but what about the part where he gets to who the murderer was?

General. When we were traveling across the Southwest last Christmas time to get to Santa Barbara, we found that some motels got Telemundo, but some didn't. All of them got Univision.

Eva la trailera... epi 54, wednesday
part 1

Eva is found innocent and the judge will ask to reopen Sofia's murder case,
*bang goes the gavel* Caso Cerrado!
(oh wait, that's another show).

Betty moves in with Marisol, who wonders what she has gotten into.

Adri is at church praying for her mother and her baby,
the prayer for her mother is answered.

Andy points out how Marlene is begging for attention from Armando, who keeps putting distance between them, later at the office she wants them to go home, she will help him to relax, Armando's reply, "I regret the day I met you", and grabs Javier on the way out.

the happy folks all meet back at Pancho's to toast Eva's freedom.

Martin doesn't drink, (you wouldn't like it if I did) and ducks out to visit Virginia while visiting hours are open.

and Virginia tells us her story, graduated from college, met a guy that swept her off her feet, he was selling drugs under the table at her pharmacy, as she got suspicious the place was raided, he disappeared, even her marriage was a fake.

hmm, Martin doesn't know if he can help with that, but they can pursue getting her out on good behavior, maybe 1 1/2 years.

Pablo, Diego, Adri and Eva go to see Fabi, and give her the news, Fabi sends Diego a picture of her as a flower and him, and (I know, he says) Diego the dino.

Betty just can't let it go, Marisol thinks justice was served, Betty calls her a traitor, the slap from Marisol shuts her down for a second maybe, who is paying you Betty wants to know, and grabs her bag, leaves.

couldn't be a better day for Soraya and Pancho, they have reconciled with their son, resolved their company matters, made love all night and now Eva is free, they were going to stay another day, but they want to celebrate with the "family", well maybe one more love session before they leave.

and on the road home, being followed by a red truck, (was it purple yesterday?) but wait, bang! they are being rammed, and again, again, Soraya says this was her premonition, Pancho says call 911, Soraya fumbles with the phone as this next crash throws their car rolling off the road, and as the dust settles, Pancho lies unconscious in the car, Soraya was thrown free, the car bursts into flames.

Eva la trailera... epi 54, wednesday
part 2

the big truck in the background watching, Andy gets the call, "we are watching them fry", and the news to Marlene, this looks better than sex from the smile on her face, and on to consolidating their new half sausage/half trucking businesses, Andy says, you'll have to marry Armando.

Pancho and Eva are back at his house for a quiet celebration, it's family movie night and they have the house to themselves.

awaiting the news, Cinthia and Robert send Bobby out, where am I going to find ice cream at this hour he wonders, it's for your mother, Robert adds, and on his return notices this is a hospital for plastic surgery, duh!, and finally gets it, as he walks in on the doctor discussing breast and butt implants.

Eva and Pablo in the glow discuss future possibilities all living here, Berta driving them around in the semi while they play in the sleeper, but what about Betty's baby, oh, Eva makes it clear her dislike for Betty, but a new baby in the house, she would love that, and so they start thinking maybe a bigger place, with a garden for Diego's dinosaurs and a tree house for Evencio.

and we see Betty walking the streets, looks like Evencio's old cardboard neighborhood, and JJ consols Marisol who just lost her best friend,
or does he just want to play, well this backfires.

Armando and Javier are getting wild at the girly club, Javier making excuses to his wife on the phone, "Marlene ordered me to follow him",

Marlene and Elsa are not happy with their men,
"how dare Armando treat me like one of his sluts".

later Armando sends the girls away at Javier's disappointment, as Armando falls into turning back the clock so he can have his family back.

and Bobby swings by Adri's pool house, kind of quiet, yes he knows they won't be getting back together, he's looking for a friend, just any friend Adri asks, well, you are my best friend, he says, the only person that really understands me, ok friends she says (looking for one herself), and they talk, he is amazed at what a wonderful person Pancho is, Adri smiles, that he now knows.

Marlene and Andy drop in on Cinthia and Robert at the hospital, remember our bargain?, "can you come back when I can talk asks Cinthia?"

Eva's phone rings... Soraya ??

there has been an accident,
Soraya is fighting for her life...

(is that the body of Pancho in a body bag)

[and I'm thinking Bobby has some big shoes to fill]

EVA

¡Gracias! Juanita & deb for the last two days recaps. I missed a bit of both shows, so glad you filled in the details for me. Just as we had feared, tragedy strikes los Mogollón!!! Wait til Bobby finds out he was had. Did I hear the cop say that Soraya was still alive? What about Pancho? Horrors! (could they have made Robert & Cinthia any more despicable, venal and ugly? Cosmetic surgery?)

I laughed out loud and almost fell off the exercise bike when Betty wandered into the Only Cardboard Village in LA. She's a casualty, that gal. And to think they have Fabiola in lockup. Betty belongs in a padded cell. Speaking of which, now that Eva is no longer considered unfit, why hasn't Fabi been returned to her?

Thanks again for the great recaps!

Eva. I think it's only a matter of time until Eva gets Fabi back--with the nice psychiatrist testifying enthusiastically for her! Oh, no! Pancho is dead! Not only is there a body bag, but we saw him right under the car just before it caught fire. No way he could have survived, is there? But Soraya survived, and I am assuming that when she is better, she and Bobby will form a mother-son team and join the rapidly growing army of victims trying to get justice against Marlene and Andy. The Monteverdes will rue the day they met Marlene! But good-by to this telenovela's most attractive character! I was a bit surprised that Soraya didn't have a presentiment when the truck was just following them out on the road, and that she didn't somehow lead them out of danger.

Eva. And thank you for the excellent recap, deb! Sorry I was too disconcerted by Pancho's death to say that before. And if anyone can think of a way that Pancho could have survived, I'd be glad to hear it. Sigh

Eva

What if...... the person in the body bag is actually a good samaritan who died while saving
Pancho? I know, grasping at straws, but I want him to still be alive so badly.

AnonGringa

Eva. Thanks, AnonGringa. Yes, grasping at straws, but Pancho could have crawled away somehow, just before the van exploded, maybe pushed ahead by the now-dead samaritan, and he is passed out under some bushes. Eventually he will crawl out and get help? Probably not. Sigh again.

Eva. Of course the rescuer would also have to be a 40-something Hispanic male, since that's what the police officer could tell from the corpse, even in the state it was in.

EVA

Oh thank you all for grasping at straws. I would so love for Soraya not to have to shoulder that terrible grief. And Bobby, the guilt for having let himself be duped. But it would galvanize their anger, for sure.

Eva

Deb, thanks so much for the fine, fine recap!

Well, they did it, made all the writers’ efforts in foreshadowing doom come true. Our handsome, gallant, lovable Pancho is almost certainly dead. A coma for Soraya would be the best thing for her. Her grief is going to be terrible. Is it too much to hope for that Bobby will immediately realize what that fake suicide attempt to get him back in town was all about? He’s pretty dense sometimes. Despite all her character faults Cinthia does love Bobby and she’s lost him for sure, assuming he connects the dots.

And there’s no way the Monteverde’s, much less Marlene and Andy, are going to get their hands on the Mogollón money. Bobby won’t give them a cent. The only possible way they’d get anything MIGHT be screwy telenovela legal shenanigans in which Bobby’s a minor and they control it. [Heaven forfend!]

Deb, loved Caso Cerrado, wrong show!

Marisol’s abuse as a young girl must have warped her thinking somehow. Why in the world is she feeling guilty about Betty? First off, she didn’t echarla as she told JJ. Betty got on her extremely high horse and walked out to the cardboard village.

I think Martín said that Virginia had 1.5 years left on her sentence. I don’t remember their ever saying how long she’d already been in there.

The blank look on Marlene’s face when Andy said she needed to marry Armando to really cash in was interesting. I think she has an inkling that he’s not out ring shopping and may never make an honest woman of her (as if).

I was yelling at my TV. I know it wouldn’t be easy to think clearly in such a situation. But had the Mogollones just slowed way down and let the big truck go forward, they could have gotten off the road and perhaps escaped.

Anyway, I’m very upset they killed Pancho. All through the novela I’ve wondered if Edith González would have had anything to do with Roberto Mateos being hired for the role. He played her alcoholic ex in Doña Bárbara. And Arap Bethke was in that novela as the capataz of Altamira, the protagonist’s ranch.

Eva
Muchísimas gracias, deb, for a superb recap, skillfully combining great detail with your marvellous style. Loved "the news to Marlene, this looks better than sex from the smile on her face."

Well, I guess Telemundo has finally acknowledged that Los Angeles has more than one hospital. To compensate, they now show what LXV has identified as "the Only Cardboard Village in LA."

Thanks to all the straw graspers for trying to come up with an explanation of how Pancho may have survived. I so fervently hope you're right, though my hopes are stuck down in the cellar.

Eva

Novelera, your message was apparently posted 9 minutes before mine, but I didn't see it until now. I too was thinking of ways the Mogollones could have escaped, though my strategy was in some ways the opposite of yours. I was wishing that they had sped up. My guess is that their car could go much faster than that big truck, and they could have outrun it. Sigh.

BTW, re yesterday's discussion of the availability of Univisión vs. Telemundo, when I said that Univisión is available even without a cable subscription whereas Telemundo is not, my wording was misleading. I meant any kind of arrangement that costs money, not just cable but also DirecTV and others. Univisión is available for free just like ABC, NBC, and CBS: if you have a TV, you can get Univisión for free but not Telemundo, I think. So it's not surprising that Univisión has more viewers than Telemundo.

GENERAL TELEMUNDO

I have no cable or any kind of online TV. All we've got is an antenna up on the roof and I get Telemundo just fine on Channel 47 here in NY/NJ.

General

That's what I meant, Juanita, and probably didn't explain it well. I have DirecTV but Telemundo where I live is part of the basic local channel lineup and I would get it if all I had was an antenna.

General Telemundo

Ah, thanks for the info, LXV. Here in Maryland, people I know who don't have cable or other pay service can't get Telemundo. (Indeed, I can't get Telemundo on the one TV we have that's not connected to our cable, just to a rooftop antenna.) I foolishly assumed that that was the case elsewhere as well. I'm glad to know that that's not the case. The more accessible Telemundo is, the better.

General Telemundo
Of course, being in a major urban area with a large (huge) Spanish-speaking population doesn't hurt either.
