Un Camino Hacia el Destino-Week 8 (Apr 11, 2016)
Misunderstandings, misinterpretations, lies of commission, lies of omission, fury, rejection, deception, sorrow, hurt, jealousy--it happened to just about all the persons integral to the story.
The person who hurts the most right now is Fernanda, the innocent schoolgirl who is in love for the first time with someone who seems to have been two-timing her with a former Miss Universe.
Pedro is a close second as he watches his one-sided marriage fall apart in front of his daughter's eyes. His anger at Amelia is somewhat justified for Fernanda's biological father is back in the picture and Amelia seems to be amenable to having him know his child. Pedro risks Fernanda's disappointment in learning he is not her "real" father, although he has been her real father for 19 years. In not wanting to tell Fernanda about her paternity, he underestimates the powerful bond they have if he believes Fernanda will reject him outright to begin a relationship with Luis.
One glimmer of hope for Carlos, the besotted novio, to rescue his relationship with Fernanda is that he learns from a reliable source that one of the proofs Isabela had for verifying her pregnancy is false. What will Isabela have to say when he confronts her with the news, as he surely will.
One glimmer of hope for Pedro is that he doesn't know Luis and Fernanda know each other already because they are embroiled in a bitter lawsuit which didn't go Luis' way. How will Luis react to the news that it is the same Fernanda Perez who is his biological child.

To get back with this jerk? Really girl?!?! She is going to miss pedro when he's gone. I don't want him back with her, that ship Has sailed. He can do better. He still has the love of his sweet little fernny. Amelia can go wherever I don't care. I said this before, wouldn't it be good if he got with marissa and she got pregnant? I think that would be great. And then that baby would be fernny's little bro or sis/ in-law. The same with carlos. Well theres a ways to go so a lot of stuff is going to go down. We got the fake pregnancy drama, the court drama, camila drama tryin to hook up with carlos(Im really sick of That particular drama), she should just go get a career. And tell her daddy to go make his own money and stop pimpin his child out to get somebody elses.
O gees so much to be exposed. But its really good and stuff is happening rather quickly. I thought they"d drag it along For awhile. The cat is out of the bag about mariana cookin up that lie about amelia sellin fer. And now part of the lie about the fake pregnancy is out. They keep going on like this and there wont be time to get board. Ok I also
Hope that pl fer dticks around long enough to get to meet his granddaughter.
Hey by the way, did yall know that the actress thats playing mariana is also the real life daugher of the actor thats playin her gather ol fernando. And he'll be 93 years this. Cool yeah?!?! They're really good together.
This show is gettin better. I hope they keep the momentum going.
Some scenes have been combined to make it flow a little better.
Fer and Camila finish up at the quesadilla stand and head for Fer’s cottage with all the food stuff. Camila takes her leave and heads for the school complex. She looks at her old prepa from afar, but now will be her university. Fer is scheduled for her audition for a place in the music school. (Please note she is wearing a green top with no visible holes.)
Carlos and the doctor, whose signature was forged on the false pregnancy test grill the nurse, Josefina. She admits she did the forging, but won’t tell who paid her to do it, even though she might go to jail. Carlos gives up and leaves to go to his favorite bar to drown his sorrows in tequila.
Felipe shows up after Carlos has downed a few. Felipe doesn’t want to have anything to do with him, not after what he did to Fernanda. It was one thing to go after her when Carlos knew Felipe liked her, it was another thing to deceive her the way he did. Carlos asks Felipe to listen to him. He’s Carlos’ best friend. He reminds Felipe he told him early on that he and Fernanda were novios and she wasn’t going to pay any attention to him, but Felipe wouldn’t listen. Felipe, in turn, reminds Carlos about Camila. She had illusions and was deluded. Carlos explains that Fernanda insisted he not say anything to Camila because she didn’t want to lose her friendship, just as now, he doesn’t want to lose Felipe’s friendship. Felipe reminds him how many people he hurt with this, including Isy, who’s expecting Carlos’ child. This is when Carlos tells him about the fake pregnancy. Felipe is left speechless.
Isabela stops by his house to see Luis (sorry, I meant Carlos’ house, as I’ve been reminded). Marissa tells Isy he left early. She also tells her Carlos informed her that he and Fernanda broke up. Isy needs to talk to him, but Marissa said he also left early to go see her doctor. Isy looks concerned. She wonders why he went by himself. They were supposed to go to the hospital together. Then she wonders how Carlos even knew who her doctor was. Marissa says it was right on the document Isy gave him. Isy had forgotten that little detail. Anyway, Marissa says Carlos was going to call her and meet her there.
Orsano (or Lorsano), the P.I., is telling Luis in his office, he learned the girl from the lawsuit is having her audition/interview for admission to the music school. She’s super qualified. Luis thanks him. Then he calls somebody he knows on the panel to call in a few chips that are owing him. Under no circumstances is this Fernanda to be admitted to the school. Luis thinks that ought to fix her. Her dream is going to turn into a nightmare. He seems well pleased with himself. He also calls Josefina and tells her she’d better not do any talking—or else.
Diego is prepping Lucero for her entrance exam to the university. She’s having trouble. He encourages her. He wouldn't be there if he didn’t believe in her. Lucero’s interview doesn’t go well. Rosaura asks the other two admissions officers to wait until her exam scores are in. Unfortunately, even with a smile from Diego outside the room, the exam doesn’t go well either. When she exits after the news she won’t be accepted, Diego has been waiting for her. He takes one look at her face and puts his arms around her and hugs her to him.
Fer performs for the panel of three men and a woman. (Fernanda has changed into a navy blue top which is so torn it is practically in shreds. She could have worn her graduation dress. She must be a firm believer in talent over presentation. Ok, I’ve been beating on this holey top business too many times. I promise to cease and desist and just go with the flow.) It’s the woman who nixes her admission. (Why am I not surprised it was a woman Luis called.) She claims Fer’s technique was excellent, but she made several errors. Errors are not permitted in this school. Fer can’t believe she heard the woman correctly. She is torn up.
Fer stops by the school to mourn. Carolina comes up to her and mocks Fer for going after her sister’s novio. Sor Sonrisa interrupts before the girls start pulling hair.
Rosaura and Sor Sonrisa discuss Fer’s situation. They’ll put their back up plan into effect. She’ll study journalism (periodismo) on a full scholarship and take a music seminar. It won’t start her career in music, though.
Pedro is home, dancing around and still playing Chef Hawt. He can’t wait for Fernanda to return to celebrate. He’s sure she will be accepted. Her whole future is ahead of her. Cesarín drops in for a couple of tacos. He would like to get another job with the bank lady. He’s thinking it’s about time to settle down and start a family—with Clarita. He could use the money. (Maybe he forgot he works with Pedro and they have a job landscaping the bank grounds, or the writers did.)
Fer returns to her house. Pedro is all excited about music school, he wants to know when she starts, teachers, classes, everything. She tells him she was not accepted. Pedro feels for her but he says that the good things in life require hard work. She shouldn’t see this as a failure. Failure is *not* to fall and get up again. Failure is to fall and not get up again. She’ll be stronger for this ordeal. She should go to the university this year and reapply to the music school next year. This seems to brighten her spirits somewhat.
Isabela barges in on Luis at the office to tell him their little scheme is falling apart. Luis isn’t taking any of the blame. Luis says she was the one stupid enough to give Carlos the document with the doctor’s and the clinic’s name on it. She forgot to get them back. She’s wringing her hands wondering what they will do. Luis says he’s done. He did what he promised to do. She’ll have to figure something out. He reminds her that, “for friends and associates, you go to the edge of the grave, but you don’t bury yourself with them.” She’s not happy with his answer.
At the dining hall at school, the Three Mean Girls, led by Carolina, make fun of Avelina, who is sitting by herself, looking at a crust of bread in front of her. Carolina comes over and tells her she’s not fat, she’s plump. Then she goes back to her companions and they start making oink, oink noises. Avelina flees to the bathroom in tears. Camila sees what’s going on and follows her to find Avelina throwing up. One of the 3MGs shows a smidgen of remorse and comes into the bathroom and after saying it wasn’t her, leaves a lipstick for Avelina to fix herself up with. Camila gives Avelina a big hug and tells her to ignore what they say.
(This was almost an Amelia-free episode, but no, she’s got her cleaning cart in Lupe’s office. I firmly believe this is the cleanest room in the bank.) Mariana comes to visit her there. Luis told her where she worked. Amelia takes her to the bathroom to talk. Mariana is performing her role as the sweet, concerned, loving sister perfectly. She starts out by telling Amelia Luis only wants to see his daughter. That’s not too much to ask, poor thing.
Camila tries to cheer Fernanda up by asking her to spend the afternoon together and then have dinner. They can even call Carlos to join them. Fer doesn’t really feel like it. She’d rather stay and eat with her parents, since she doesn’t know how many more meals they’ll have together as a family. She’ll call Camila in the morning. Camila is going to take her to the hacienda—she’ll love it (uh, oh, it’s Old Fer’s hacienda).
Fer tries to get up the courage to go visit Isabela. She calls Cesarín to be her wing man, back-up and protector, but she gets his voice mail. She waits until Cesarín arrives to leave. She has to find out if it’s true or not that Isabela and Carlos are through.
Carlos and Felipe are still talking and drinking. Carlos admits he deceived Isabela, but what she did to him goes way beyond pay back. Felipe can’t believe she would do something like that. Carlos says he just came from her supposed doctor. Someone forged his signature. The whole thing was a fake. Because of what she did, Fer doesn’t want to have anything to do with him. He’s lost her. (Actually, Fer is not at this time aware of any pregnancy, fake or otherwise.)
Carlos staggers out of the bar. He’s going to confront Isy. This would be a good thing, but not in his inebriated state. Felipe is going with him, but a couple of guys detain him for a little business convo.
Isabela gets home from Luis’ office, relieved that Carlos hasn’t called, so he probably hasn’t spoken to the doctor yet. She sends Carolina away because she’s expecting Fernanda any minute. She wants to talk to her alone, although Carolina is dying to be a fly on the wall. Isy says it’s an advantage to know what your enemy is thinking.
When Isabela answers the knock at the door, it’s not Fernanda. It’s Carlos. In an unusual change of roles, it is Carlos who keeps repeating, “No me toques.” He doesn’t want her to touch him although Isy keeps trying to. He throws the fake baby docs in her face, but she denies knowing anything about that and she certainly had nothing to do with it. Carlos is ready to take her to meet the nurse she suborned or the doctor whose patient she was supposed to be. He calls her a liar. Isy is surprised when he collapses on her bed, dead drunk.
Isy then panics and calls Luis about Carlos’ accusations. Luis says he called the nurse and warned her not to talk, but if she does, Isy is sunk. He hangs up.
Alicia ushers someone in to see Luis. It’s Pedro hell-bent for leather. Pedro is very aggressive as they start to argue over Fernanda. Pedro says Luis has absolutely nothing whatever to do with his daughter. Luis answers he doesn’t want anything to do with Pedro’s daughter, but with *his* daughter, yes. He has every right to get to know her. Pedro follows up with his fire and brimstone stump speech about who has the right to be called Fernanda’s father. Pedro swears Luis will never get access to know his daughter. Pedro forbids it. (Sorry, Pedro, you lose. Luis is a lawyer.) Luis indeed pulls out his lawyer trump card. He does have rights and a DNA test will prove it and he can get what belongs to him. Pedro socks him one. He says his daughter is not an object that can belong to anybody. He stalks out.
Fernanda has arrived at Isy’s door. Fer explains she did not know anything about Isabela when she started seeing Carlos. She only found out about Isy on her trip. Carlos came to her house after they got back to tell her Isy and Carlos had broken up. Isy tells her it’s a lie. They are still together. In fact, he’s there right now and takes Fer to see Carlos sprawled out on her bed. Before Fer can leave, Isy gets in her face accusing her of pursuing Carlos for his money and his looks. Fer says it’s the other way around, Carlos was pursuing her (because she’s poor and pretty—and innocent, guileless, enchanting).
Amelia and Mariana are still in the office bathroom talking. Amelia says Luis told her the opposite of everything Mariana had said. He even hired a detective to find her. Mariana feigns ignorance. In fact she’s horrified to hear about the baby-selling story (hers, of course). Amelia tells her Old Fer wants a reconciliation and that’s not what Mariana told her when she came to her cottage. Mariana lays it on so thick a spoon would stand up in her lies. She said his change of heart is very recent. She tried for years to get him to put the rancor and hatred behind him. Now it is true he wants a reconciliation. The change is probably due to his illness. He's afflicted with memory problems. He has all the symptoms of dementia.
"I firmly believe this is the cleanest room in the bank"
I too have become obsessed with the holey T's. Why can't everyone get an old T right when Cesarín can?
Thank you Pedro but your defense will prove futile I fear
With one of the mean girls disqualified for showing remorse I nominate Luis to replace her. He denied an 18 year old poor girl her dream for no reason other than meanness.
Carlos may be a razzle dazzle doctor but he's a stupid drunk and deserves this misunderstanding.
I felt so sorry for Fernanda as Isabela piled on. Fernanda had a sucky week.
Your carefully chosen words not only convey the action but the feeling, the deepest of hurts perfectly. So many wonderful phrases but "lies of commission, lies of omission" was my favorite.
"This was almost an Amelia-free episode, but no, she’s got her cleaning cart in Lupe’s office: made me smile. My heavens, I'm sure you could eat off the floor! Although have we really seen Amelia putting any elbow grease into her work? Perhaps she is there so much as little cleaning actually gets done. :)
"He says his daughter is not an object that can belong to anybody". I admire Pedro's resolve but as you noted, the law is not on his side in this matter. Fernanda is Luis' biological daughter. However, no one can replace Pedro in her heart - doesn't he know that by now?
I hated seeing Fer crushed by the rejection. tofie, yes, Luis was disgusting to rig that, wasn't he? And poor Lucero appeared as though she was emotionally drained that the effort of speaking was simply too much. At least Diego was there to comfort her.
There are many vipers living in this land and Mariana slithers with the best of them.
And Carlos? Kudos for unearthing the fake pregnancy with points detracted for flopping on Isy's bed.
Felipe. Would anyone miss him if he were to disappear? Sigh.
Thank you Anita! This was wonderful.
Diana
I cannot believe we got rid of the fake pregnancy plot so quickly!! Kudos to the writers for not insisting on it for the next 50 episodes.
Okay, I am not usually one who notices outfits, but I was distracted by Camila's short shorts with the stars or triangles or whatever they were dangling from the hem.
Why was Camila helping Fer at the Taco stand? For that matter, why is Fer continuing this service in her mother's absence? Does the community desperately need a taco stand?
Despite her loony preoccupation with Carlos, I really like Camila. I think her personality benefitted by her greedy father and her evil stepmom sending her to board at the school. She has developed a kind personality without their influences.
In vino veritas...or not. Carlos isn't a mean drunk, or a happy drunk, he is a stupid drunk. I think that when dealing with Isa, one is well advised to keep their wits about them, and have all faculties on full alert.
Ah, Luis. You slimy crawling sub-human life form. Got your fingers in most of the pies baking in the oven, don't you? I just simply can't wait for everyone around you to find out what a slithering snake you really are.
Thanks so much, Anita.
David
"Ah, Luis. You slimy crawling sub-human life form".
We are all thinking similar thoughts, aren't we David? Vipers, slimy, crawling, etc.
Diana
I did not understand if Luis understood that by sabotaging Fer's audition at the music school, he was undermining the future of his own daughter??? Does he know that the girl who sued him is his daughter?
David
tofie, thanks for clearing that up. Just one more thing Luis will feel guilty about (provided of course he is capable of that emotion) :)
Diana
Luis is probably thinking only of getting back at the mocosa estafadora when he had her denied entrance to the music school, for what she did to him. Like Isabela, it's a very grade school thing to do, but has wide ranging implications.
We know Fer felt remorse about the whole lawsuit almost from the start. It was Felipe who suckered her in with the promise of getting her graduation dress out of it. It seemed simple. He kept propelling the suit forward. She just couldn't stop it. Luis blames her 100% though, well, maybe 98% with the other 2% divided equally between Felipe and Carlos. I wonder how Felipe will feel, once he starts finding out his role in this mess.
Tofie--What a lovely image--the daughter rainbow and the pot of gold. Money is what speaks to him, always. It will be interesting to see how Luis handles the revelation that the two Fernanda's are one in the same, his daughter.
David--Camila is a diamond in the rough. She could go either way in the future, but she does have a heart of gold, even though her obsession with Carlos showed the ditzzy side of her. Hernan was just fueling that fire. I wonder if she will still go after him now that he and Fer are on the outs.
What I miss most: the ducks quacking at the tire swing rendezvous on the river.
My most fervent wish: whoever is painting the gray streaks in Amelia's hair, please consult photos of actual people with gray hair.
Best moment of last night: the amazed look of disbelief on Luis' face when Pedro pasted him one on the kisser.
Worst moment: Dr Carlos goes down like a fallen redwood on Isa's bed. Nooooo, this won't end well.
Suspension of disbelief moment: Pedro really thinks, in this day and age, he can keep the bio dad from having access to his daughter?
Loving this show!
J in Oregon
Luis, arrogant S O B. what is he going to do when he finds out he ruined his daughters chance for a music scholarship. Jackass!!!
And isy. I thought that was really stupid of her to say, "you're pursuing carlos for his money and his looks". I get the money, but the looks. Hes is a looker but it just sounded funny her sayin that. And she was so proud of her silly self sayin that like it was suppose to hurt. Is that all shes got? It was very stupid of him to get pickled and then confront the hairy one. Stupid is what stupid does.
Mariana and her mean sibbling. Whose meaner? Its a tie. Lets see what tonites episode brings. O almost forgot, that was a good clockin pedro gave that pompus ass (luis).
Thank you for your continuing, selflessness and dedication.
I could not be watching this without you!
There are several conversations I could not follow and was very frustrated. I know I will catch up once I read your sure to be marvelous recap.
Diana
We and Fernanda are forced to re-live the pain of seeing Carlos spread out on Isy’s bed. Isy is sorry Fer was deceived this way. Fer doesn’t understand something. If Isy knew, why is she still with him. Isy replies, with little pity in her voice, that now more than ever it is important to be together because she’s expecting his baby. Fer’s world has just crashed. She leaves in tears. Isy’s world rocks. She laughs triumphantly as she heads back to the bedroom.
She slimes all over Carlos until he revives from his alcoholic fog, realizes where he his and jumps up and away from her. She tells him he was spouting all kinds of gibberish in his drunken state about her not being pregnant. Carlos says may be drunk, but not stupid. He repeats his findings about the faked pregnancy documents. Again she denies the lie. Again he accuses. How could she do this just to separate him from Fernanda. He congratulates her for achieving her goal. How could she invent something so low just to hold onto him. She sees the game is up and says she did it because she loves him. He’s distraught over her deception. He staggers out, only a little steadier on his feet. Isy runs after him and when he slams the door, she kicks it in anger and frustration. Now it’s Isy’s world that crashes.
Cesarín walks Fer home. He’s really surprised Carlos would do something like that—seeing her and at the same time getting a different novia pregnant. What makes it worse in his eyes is that Carlos even came to Pedro and asked permission to go out with Fer. He wonders if Marissa knows. Probably not, Fer says, or Clarita would have heard about it and passed it on to him. Cesarín wants to know if Carlos woke up when she saw him. Fer says no, because she left right away so as not to have any problems with Isy. She asks Cesarín not to say anything about the pregnancy to Pedro. It’s enough for him to know Carlos was cheating on her. The whole affair is so humiliating to her.
Lupe and Amelia talk about Mariana and how sweet she’s been. Lupe doesn’t trust her. Mariana tells Amelia one story and then returns with another. Lupe takes Pedro’s side for voting him father-of-the year (or better yet, two decades). Amelia sort of sees Lupe’s point of view, but doesn’t know what to do. Lupe thinks she should be very wary of that sister of hers. She’s convinced she will try anything to keep her and Old Fer apart.
And speaking of that sister, thar she blows! Mariana is driving while fussing and fuming out loud about never letting Amelia and her bastard child take what she’s owed after enduring all those years with her crazy father. She almost runs over an innocent couple out for a walk. She blames them for being in her way.
Pedro has come to check with Marissa at her house on the status of his proposal for landscaping work at the bank. He hadn’t heard back yet. Marissa assures him the job is his. The proposal was just a formality. They already had a deal. He thanks her and starts to leave. She calls him back. Could he help her with her orchids. They're looking a little peaked. Gladly, he says. Orchids need attention. She needs to talk to them every day, sing, smile and recite poetry to them. He demonstrates with a short poem by Neruda. Marissa likes Neruda’s poetry. She thought bubbles that Pedro surprises her more and more.
Carlos is in his kitchen. Nana Rosario is trying to cure his hangover. Clarita is listening as he tells Rosario that Isabela’s pregnancy was all a lie. In fact. He’s going to go find Fer and ask her to forgive him. Rosario thinks he needs a bath first. He stinks.
Fer is in bed, drowning her sorrows in tears. Amelia walks in. She demands Fer look at her when she’s talking to her. She tells Fer her life is about to change. Fer doesn’t want it to change. Amelia says too bad, the divorce is going forward. Now she wants Fer up and dressed to go out to a fancy restaurant. Amelia doesn’t care that Fernanda isn’t in the mood.
Lupe has taken Amelia to get a hair do-over. It looks more like a retro “luke” when she’s done. She looks exactly the way she did 19 years ago, bangs and a pony tail. How cursi for a nearly 40-year-old woman.
Mariana is entertaining Luis while they wait for Amelia and Fernanda. He’s so excited to be meeting his child after all these years. Mariana asks why he and Marissa never had any children together. He answers quite openly she was left sterile after complications with Carlos’ birth.
Amelia calls Fernanda. Change of plans. She’s running late and will go straight to the restaurant. Fer is to take a taxi. As she’s writing down the address, there is a knock at the door. It’s not Carlos (darn). It’s Felipe (double darn).
Amelia arrives at the restaurant without Fer, but assures Luis she is coming.
For some reason, Pedro has stopped talking to the orchids and is now at least 20’ up in the air sawing a tree branch off. Marissa is watching. (She had to be there because Pedro is about to fall and someone needs to be there to cry out for help.) Pedro replays his confrontation with Luis in his head, loses concentration and lets go of the tree trunk. (Real arborists up that high would be wearing a safety harness and ropes and have a second person on the ground, but we have a story to tell and a fall to record.) Pedro falls. Marissa screams. Pedro lies quite still, in an awkward position. Marissa does the right thing and Pedro is taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Marissa is with him, exhorting him to listen to her, as she strokes his face.
Fernanda updates Felipe on the sorry state of her life and seeing Carlos at Isy’s, asleep on her bed. Fer doesn’t understand how he could have done something like that to her. He listens attentively, tries to console her. She hurts; he hugs. He takes her hand and tells her to breathe. She laughs.
Carlos has made it nearly all the way to Fernanda’s house only to see Felipe and Fer through the full-length picture window, laughing and very friendly. He sees Felipe take her hand. He turns away, then decides he needs to know what is going on and turns back toward the cottage.
During the ambulance ride, Marissa calls Carlos, desperately asking him to come help. There has been an accident. In the worst possible timing for Carlos, he tells her he’s on his way to see Fernanda. Marissa says the life of a man is at stake, that is more important than any visit to his novia (oh, if she only knew). Oddly she never mentions who the man is (but we have a story to tell, etc.) She begs him, as a special favor to her to come.
The ambulance careens through the night. (I only mention this because Pedro fell in the middle of the day. Felipe arrives at Fer’s and it’s light out. Carlos arrives and it’s dark out.) They almost lose him on the way, but he arrives alive at the hospital. Carlos arrives at the hospital. Marissa finally tells him it was Pedro who fell out of a tree. He goes off to see how the treatment is going.
The trio at the restaurant are still waiting for Fernanda. Amelia tells Luis that to get her to come, she told Fer she was going to introduce her to a friend (feminine—amiga), who wanted to meet her. When asked, Mariana tells Amelia she hasn’t told their father about finding her, yet, but will do so as soon as she gets home. Luis tells Amelia how Pedro came to his office and they traded blows. (This man has no reason to lie about this other than not wanting to look less macho than Pedro. I only saw the blow going one-way.) Now they are getting concerned that Fer hasn’t arrived. They call, but there is no answer.
Felipe has offered to give Fer a lift to the restaurant to be with her mother. The phone rings. It’s Marissa telling Fer about the accident. They rush to the hospital. Fer is told he’s in emergency being tended to. In a brief scene, we see them working over Pedro. He flatlines, but Carlos doesn’t want to give up. A few minutes later, Carlos approaches the waiting Fer. His face is stony. He says nothing, but takes Fernanda in his arms. She hugs him, knowing the worst is probably true. In order to intensify viewers’ anxiety, Carlos just tells Fer and Marissa to calm down.
Amelia gives up waiting for Fernanda. They can’t decide who will take Amelia home. Mariana fears if Luis takes her home, he will run into Pedro again. She’ll take Amelia home. He’s not afraid of Pedro. He addresses Amelia, saying he does not understand how Amelia could stay with such a jerk for so long. She looks him in the eye and says it’s his fault, he’s the one who abandoned her pregnant. Mariana dials their emotions back a bit. Amelia will go home by herself. Mariana is to go home and tell their father she will see him soon and she and Fernanda are moving back to the house. She tells Luis if he wants to meet his daughter, he’ll have to come to Old Fer’s house.
Miracles do happen. Carlos brought Pedro back from the brink of death and Fer bounces in to the hospital room to a smiling conscious Pedro. For a fall from such a great height and flatlining twice, he seems in pretty good shape. Shirtless with ribs taped and one foot in traction. (I noticed he wasn’t wearing the standard neck brace. I guess he’s just too manly for that, or wardrobe couldn’t find one.) Carlos comes in to check on Pedro. Fernanda is grateful to Carlos for saving her father’s life. He says he did it because he’s a doctor and a friend. Pedro and Fer seem puzzled with his use of the term, friend. Carlos and Fer look at each other, a mix of sadness and yearning for a lost love.
As Marissa and Carlos walk down the hall together, she questions his use of the term, friend. He explains it was all he could think of at the time in order to keep Fernanda close to him while he thinks of a way to reconcile with her. Marissa wonders why he would want to. She tells him to have a little dignity, now that Isabela is having his baby. Carlos tells her all about the fake pregnancy. Marissa is shocked. He says Isy lied. She lied to all of them.
An unknown number of días después, Pedro wants to be discharged and get back to work. Carlos nixes that plan. He needs professional care for a couple more days. They worry about the bill.
Sister Rosaura stops by her sister-in-law’s cottage. She assumes Amelia is on her way to the hospital to see Pedro. Actually, she’s not. She’s going to work. Sister tries to guilt her into caring about Pedro just a little. Amelia tells her she’s sick and tired of Rosaura butting into her life. She insults Rosaura in the most vile, despicable way—she tells her if she cares so much for Pedro she should marry him herself. That earns her a well deserved Heavenly slap. Amelia bodily throws Rosaura out.
Marissa and Rosario talk about the arrangements for Pedro to recuperate at her house. (This lady has a plan.) Luis storms in. The jist of his rage is the crazy idea of Marissa’s to bring the poor gardener into their house. It’s a class thing for him. Marissa feels partly responsible for his getting injured on their property and she’s assuming his care. It’s the humanitarian thing to do. Luis continues to rage. She can feel responsible, but there are other places to stash him to recuperate besides this house. That man, he says, is not entering their house. He repeats himself. She just stares at him in disbelief.
Rosario retreats to her room. She’s obviously feeling ill. She takes a pill and asks God to help them and give her the strength to care for her niño, especially when Luis takes his claws out.
Now Luis and Marissa are having “the real” argument. Marissa is waking up to who Luis really is. He says sarcastically, is it really human compassion or something else, like loneliness, at her age that’s understandable. Marissa is wounded, but the adrenalin is pumping. Luis is on a roll. Maybe at her age she just wants to make friends with all the servant class. She retorts that age has nothing to do with how one feels about other people. He says he’ll not allow her to become like the old biddies in the barrio. Marissa stops him from insulting her further. She reminds him he was NOTHING when she met him and yet she married him.
Marissa, alone now, reflects on Luis’ arrogance. Could it be she gave him too much or his parents gave him so little. She’ll never know. What she does know is she won’t abandon Pedro to his fate. She’s going to take care of him.
Mariana greets her father joyously. She’s excited to tell him Luis found Amelia and her daughter. She tells Old Fer everything is fine and Amelia is happy he was looking for her. She wants to come back to live with them and never be separated again. Nana Blanca looks on skeptically as Mariana gives her father a big hug and a fake smile behind his back.
Fer and Pedro talk about whose fault the accident was. >>FF.
Luis comes to visit Andrea. He proudly tells her the day has come when he’s leaving the mummy he had the misfortune (yeah, read that as a minus the mis—fortune) of marrying. He’s free to be with Andrea now. Andrea wants to know how it all came about. He tells her the story, not leaving out any of the sordid details of the gardener being ensconced in his house, his home for many years. So he rethought things and wants to have a life with her. Andrea tells him she’s also been doing some rethinking and her answer is no. Luis says, huh? She says she doesn’t want to be his tear-stained handkerchief. He needs to straighten out his life and if he still wants to be with her, then she’ll decide if she wants a life with him. (You go, girl, but it sounds as if you are leaving the door open just a crack.) She tells Luis to leave.
Poor Fer can't get a break, and behind all her problems are Felipe and Luis. Boy, when the caca hits the fan for these two I hope they get covered in it.
I was so glad that Marissa finally got a little (and I stress LITTLE) glimpse into the mind and soul of this man she married out of obscurity, and it sent her reeling. Wait till the full impact of his deviousness finally comes to light.
With Marissa intending to care for Pedro in her house, will Fer be running in and out to visit her daddy, thus pissing Luis off more and more?
Isa went from sitting on top of the world by lying to and running Fer off, then was plunged into the depths of despair by Carlos shunning her once again, and then telling his mom the Isa is a lousy liar. THERE IS NO CARLOS JR!!! I think Marissa is going to be reevaluating how she interacts with people after this day's revelations.
I think that Carlos referring to Fer as his "friend" may be exactly the way for him to proceed without scaring her off. It will gradually come to light that Isa is not his novia and that she is not pregnant, at which point Fer can reflect on her relationship with Carlos without the superimposed lies.
Thanks again, Anita. Great job as always.
David
"And speaking of that sister, thar she blows!"
Amelia has a real nasty streak that cannot be covered at the salon.
Broke my heart watching Fernanda hear Isabela drop the pregnancy bomb, the pain numbing. How much can Fernanda take?
Felipe Fink
How very kind and gracious of you to dedicate your quintessential summary to me. I am humbled.
"spouting all kinds of gibberish" and "...speaking of that sister, thar she blows" were among many favorites.
Despite Carlos’ accident and Fernanda’s most recent heartache, the primary focus was Amelia. Perhaps that is the greatest tragedy of all…
I remain puzzled that such a bitter, closed off woman garnered the undying love devotion of a man who gave her everything (yet received nothing) and a beautiful, talented lovely daughter who yearns for nothing more than her mother’s gentle touch and love. And now, she has received the gift of friendship from Lupe, another treasure she has not earned and does not deserve.
Amelia’s stony, unfeeling cruel nature is again revealed: “She insults Rosaura in the most vile, despicable way—she tells her if she cares so much for Pedro she should marry him herself. That earns her a well deserved Heavenly slap”. Anita, I do not care for people putting their hands on others, but I will make an exception here. Also, as a Catholic, I feel treating a nun with such disrespect will certainly add to her time in purgatory…
Amelia’s make over was underwhelming. “She looks exactly the way she did 19 years ago, bangs and a pony tail. How cursi for a nearly 40-year-old woman” Exactly Anita! I was expecting fresh, hip and new not old and stale!
Marissa's expression changed and her lips formed a secretive yet warm smile as she watched and listened to Pedro. I liked the idea of Marissa and Pedro, but I now realize they actually would be a great couple.
Luis is not thinking clearly. Is it really wise to bite the hand that feeds him? He cannot afford to lose his golden goose, although I hope Marissa's eyes are now wide open and she is truly seeing the viper coiling in her bed.
I'm happy to see Marissa still intends to bring Pedro there to recuperate. I have hope that he seems to be doing remarkably well(?) I trust nothing though and will not feel relieved until we hear the doctor's prognosis. And yes David, Luis will have to content with his bio daughter visiting her "real" father while he stews in the background. Wouldn't it be nice if Marissa throws Luis out before all this transpires? :)
Anita, this was wonderful. Thank you.
Diana
Underwhelming. That's the image I was trying to create for Amelia. Words do fail me at this advanced age!
Luis is probably anticipating managing Fer's millions for his own benefit (and maybe Mariana's). He is clearly not thinking that there may be a gap of several years before he can take over, unless (hate to consider it) he and Mariana shorten Old Fer's life expectancy.
Do you think, with Andrea's little back door swinging, that Luis may not be in that big a hurry to leave Marissa, the mummy with money. Wouldn't he be in for a big surprise if she throws him out first (I wish).
Only Isy knows he's sleeping with Andrea and we know what a loose cannon she can be. Will she turn to blackmail? Andrea or Luis? Luis right now has more money. OTOH, Isy isn't lacking for money, that we can see.
Carlos knows about "the kiss" he thought he saw between Luis and Mariana, but his revealing it to his mother wouldn't be enough for Marissa to throw him out, I don't think. We'll have to wait to see.
I love Marissa and Pedro together. If they are written well they can easily become the best couple of this TN (Fer and Carlos are cute but she is too young for my taste). Marissa is completely charmed by this man´s sweetness and simplicity. And who can blame her? Loved her expression while Pedro was reciting the poem to the orchids.
I was surprised by Luis' complete lack of compassion towards another human being (though I shouldn't be by now). What did he expect his wife to do, to leave Pedro there to die or what? And what does a good and sensitive woman like Marissa have in common with a jerk like him?? What does she see in him?? Oh, I will be so glad the day she throws him out of her house!!
Amelia... well, I have nothing to say about her. She's a despicable person. Her scene with Rosaura was very hard to watch.
He doesn't appear to be concerned or worried that he might be expelled from the house. Yes, I really hope Marissa throws him out and that his pleas to stay and be forgiven (if he deigns to do that) fall on deaf ears...
Marissa does not seem to possess a suspicious nature (unfortunately for her). There have been many times she's seen and heard things that would tip off a more curious person. I hope her eyes are open now.
Diana
Should have told him to get yoursorry ass out of "MY HOUSE".If he is such a good lawyer he wont have $$$$ problems.
I hope fer will let carlos tell her whats going on. Filipe knew, why didn't he tell her? Not a very good friend. At all.
Amelia is mean. Nough said.
Mariana is as mean. Nough said.
Marissa wsnts to take care of her future hubby. Then he can romance her with all the poetry he can think up.
Ok this was good. Hope tonight is even better.
Thanks Anita. many many many thanks. ♡♥♡♡♥♥♡♡♥ Get some rest girl!!!!!
Note: From yesterday, Paño de lagrimas is someone who sympathizes, or lends a sympathetic ear. It’s a saying. I translated it literally.
In his hospital room, Pedro is talking to Fernanda. He suspects there’s more to her discomfort than when Carlos called himself her friend. Fer says no, there isn’t. He’s a liar and she’s not interested in being his friend anymore. However, thinking to herself she says her dad isn’t ready to learn Isy is pregnant with Carlos’ child.
Carlos is also at the hospital. He’s on the phone with his mother arranging for Pedro’s transfer to their house in a couple of days. He’s on his way to speak to Fernanda, so he says goodbye to her. When he turns around, there is a repentant Isabela standing in his way. Carlos wonders how she could show her face after what she did. She’s there to ask forgiveness. She was desperate. When he said he was leaving her for Fernanda, she didn’t know what to do. If he thought she was pregnant….she trails off. She wrings her hands and begs to be forgiven. Carlos replies that her desperation, nor the love she professes to have for him justify that deception. He tells her it’s too late, but if she’s really repentant, it should serve her, to reflect on what she did. He leaves her there, crying. These may be real tears.
Amelia, in her new “luke,” which includes a floor-length black dress and a heavy long black sweater-coat shows up in Pedro’s hospital room. Fer thinks she’s there to give Pedro a surprise and happily goes out to talk to her. She tells Fer they are moving out of the ramshackle cottage. Fer doesn’t want to, even when she’s told the new place is a hacienda with huge bedrooms. Fer thought she and Amelia were staying in the cottage and Pedro was moving out. Not so. Amelia is on her way to work. When she gets back, she wants Fer packed and ready to go. Fer is still protesting. Amelia says she’ll see her later and leaves her. Fer wonders if Amelia has found some rich man and the hacienda is his. In any case, she’s not going.
Old Fer and Nana Blanca are walking into the living room with her arm tucked into his. He’s so happy. He’ll soon have his daughter back and will get to know his granddaughter, [Warning: he repeats this several times the rest of the episode, but I won’t.] The best part is that the story of Amelia selling her child for a few dollars was false.
Mariana and Hernán have joined Old Fer and Nana Blanca in the living room for Amelia. Blanca prods Mariana a bit asking her to tell them how Luis found Amelia. Mariana isn’t sure. Old Fer thinks that woman, Virginia Torres, had ulterior motives for making up that story about his granddaughter. Camila walks in and wants to know what granddaughter they are talking about. Old Fer asks Mariana to call Luis. He wants to know when Amelia is coming. Luis says he’s not sure of the exact hour, but it will be today.
Carlos surprises Fer where she’s been contemplating her mother’s ultimatum. He calls her mi amor. She bristles. Fer has already thanked him for saving Pedro’s life. Now there is nothing more to talk about. Carlos says there is. He knows she loves him and he loves her with all his heart. He understands she’s angry with him, but he wants to explain what happened with Isabela. Fer answers that there is nothing to explain. She doesn’t want to hear anything more about him, since everything else he said were lies. He tries to tell her he and Isy had broken up. She won’t believe him. She went to see Isy at her house the day before and saw him there, asleep on her bed and she learned Isy was expecting his child. (I bet Carlos didn’t know about Fer’s visit.)
He tries to tell Fer, over her protestations, the pregnancy was a lie. Isabela faked it with a false signature on the certificate of pregnancy results. Isy lied to break them up. Fer says he’s adding just one more lie to all the ones he’s told her. She tells Carlos it’s all over between them and not to call her mi amor. Carlos is earnestly (and desperately) trying to get her to listen. Everything he just told her is the truth, otherwise he wouldn’t be standing there in front of her. He wants to fix things between them. She’s not buying it and walks away. Carlos is left standing there.
Amelia did go to work, to resign. She’s happily telling Ignacio her life is going to change completely. She won’t need the bank job anymore. She’s going to live the life she’d always deserved. Ignacio tells her the good things in life are usually achieved through working. He wishes she wouldn’t quit. He hopes she’ll be happy. They shake hands. He sits back down and reflects on her short presence in his life.
At the hacienda, Nana Blanca overhears a heated discussion between Hernán and Mariana out in the garden. Just as she suspected, Mariana was behind the Virginia Torres story and Hernán was caught up in it since the Torres woman was his former employee. She also hears that Luis was the one who put the screws on her until she confessed who put her up to it. Hernán is getting steamed. He blames Mariana for wrecking their plans and it’ll be her fault Amelia and her bastard daughter return like prodigals to inherit the whole enchilada from Old Fer.
Nana Blanca reprimands Mariana for playing dirty with her sister’s life. She tells her Mariana is a cruel, miserable excuse for a sister without any feelings. Mariana tells her to shut up. She always has reasons for doing what she does. Blanca sneers that in this case, Mariana knew that inheritance was going to her niece, he blood relative. And thar she blows, mateys. Mariana starts screaming and Old Fer comes in wanting to know what all the arguing is about. Blanca makes light of the argument, but she certainly has Mariana’s number.
Camila has arrived at the hospital and is walking with Fer toward the café. She didn’t know about Pedro’s accident. She tells Fer about this mysterious sister of her stepmother’s. She’s supposed to show up that very day, along with her child. Fer changes the subject. There is something she needs to tell her. Fer sits her down. She says it’s about Carlos. It’s actually about her AND Carlos. Cam jumps up. Not interested. Not listening. She gets far enough away from her and then lets her emotions take over. She’s upset by hearing anything having to do with Carlos, but as long as she’s here, she’ll stop by and see him. She perks up.
Carlos is pondering what to do about Fernanda. He sees Camila approaching, calling his name, but he didn’t expect to be attacked by a teenager in lust. She’s so willing to jump his bones she starts to undress him right out in the open—well, remove his lab coat, before Carlos can react. She grabs him and plants a kiss on him and keeps trying as Carlos struggles to get out of her grip. Fer comes around the corner and sees all. Carlos sees her and runs after her. She turns and calls him a lying womanizer. She was coming back to listen to his explanation and here she finds him doing the same thing to her that he did to Isy. Carlos can’t get her to listen. Camila, across the way, watches the action and is well pleased.
Amelia has come to say goodbye to Lupe. Lupe wishes her luck thinking she and Luis will get together. All he’s ever done was ruin her life. In a surprising move, Amelia turns on her friend and tells her she has no right to get involved in her life. Lupe wants to know since when. She was always there when Amelia felt lost, needed advice or wanted to complain. Amelia says she doesn’t need her anymore. She’s movin’ on up. She has her family’s help and support now. She thinks eventually she’ll win Luis. Lupe thinks she’ll end up alone with that attitude. She’s merely trading on her family name. Amelia says Lupe wouldn’t understand. She accuses Lupe of being a jealous, envious old busybody and Amelia doesn’t have to tolerate her anymore. She leaves. Lupe reflects. All of Amelia’s errors will come back to bite her some day, starting with her rejecting Pedro, who is a saint.
Camila has met Felipe for lunch. Camila is still blabbering about Carlos being hers soon, so that leaves the way clear for Felipe to have Fer. Felipe hopes that is so.
Luis arrives for the Amelia Watch. Luis is sure she’ll come today. Old Fer can’t wait. He’s sure his granddaughter takes after Amelia and not that good-for-nothing who impregnated her (and who is at that moment standing in front of him). Old Fer asks Luis where he found this Virginia Torres. He answers that it was the detective who found her. Luis says it’s either a crazy person who would make up a story like that (as he looks at Mariana) or someone who will later ask for money before telling where to actually find Amelia. Camila walks in and she and Luis stare at each other. Of course they recognize each other from Fer’s little “accident.”
Pedro and Fernanda talk about his ability to work in the future and the divorce. >>FF.
Andrea is really surprised Isy would pull a stunt like a fake pregnancy. Isy says she was desperate and didn’t want to lose Carlos. She doesn’t care it was shameful, nor who knows it. Andrea thinks a person would have to be twisted to invent something like that. Isy says, well guess what, her lover was the one who suggested it and planned it all. Leopoldo (Luis’s friend, interested in Andrea), pops in to remind Andrea they are on for lunch.
Pedro and Fernanda are quietly communing with each other on their fates when Amelia arrives to tell her she’s ready to go. Fer doesn’t want to leave Pedro. Amelia says she told her this morning they are leaving, never to return. There follows a back and forth among the three of them—Fernanda resisting and refusing to go saying she doesn’t want to be separated from her home, from Pedro; Amelia insisting she has to obey, she’s the mother; and Pedro protesting that Fernanda doesn’t have to go and tries to have Amelia see what forcing her is doing to Fernanda.
Pedro is finally beaten down and in tears tells Fernanda it’s alright to go with her mother. He’ll come visit her whenever he can. Amelia says she’ll wait for Fer outside. That gives father and daughter time for a tearful, emotionally charged farewell. Pedro tells her he doesn’t really want Fer to leave, but he also doesn’t want problems with Amelia. Amelia walks back into the room. Fer is ready. (What a bitter, cruel, selfish, heartless woman and the look she gave Pedro as she left said it all.) [This role is played to perfection by Lisette.] José and Cesarín come in to see Pedro. Tears are streaming down Pedro’s face.
Carlos is with Marissa in his hospital “office.” The only thing he wants is to win Fernanda back. Nothing else matters. He notes sadly the irony that the girl he’s in love with is Pedro’s daughter and also the daughter of the woman that cleans Marissa’s office, Amelia. Marissa was not aware she was Pedro’s wife. Ignacio joins Marissa and Carlos, bringing some documents the two need to sign. He heard them say Amelia is Pedro’s wife. Marissa remembers how Pedro pretended not to know her when they were introduced and recalls how nervous Pedro got whenever he was near her. Poor guy, she says. Carlos also has a negative impression of Amelia. She always seemed angry. Something must have happened to her to change her life and become so bitter. Ignacio remains quiet. He knows the whole story from Amelia’s point of view. Marissa continues. She knows Pedro loves her deeply, but she’s leaving him for some love from her past. Ignacio reflects silently. Could this be Luis Montero?
Old Fer asks Luis to call Amelia’s house. He gets no answer.
Amelia and Fernanda are in a fancy chauffeur-driven car. Amelia tells Fer it was a gift from her sister Mariana. Fer still can’t process all this new information—what little Amelia is sharing anyway. Amelia tells her it’s a long story. Fer is still thinking they’re going to a house that belongs to the man Amelia is leaving Pedro for. Amelia says it’s not. It’s the house she was born in and grew up there. Her grandfather and Amelia’s sister still live there and her grandfather wants to meet her. Fer says Amelia told her, her grandfather died when she was little. Fer wants to know why Amelia lied about that. Amelia tells Fer her grandfather kicked them out of the house when she became pregnant with Fernanda (making her sorry life Fernanda’s fault—way to go Amelia). She and Pedro had to leave. She learned only recently he’d had regrets about what he did and wants to forgive her. Now Amelia wants to move back (to the good life, with no responsibilities).
"[Warning: he repeats this several times the rest of the episode, but I won’t]; " He sits back down and reflects on her short presence in his life" and "he didn’t expect to be attacked by a teenager in lust" were among many favorites.
I love Nana Blanca! Trust her to call Mariana out on her cruel machinations. Mariana and Hernan are a couple made in hell.
With apologies, I find I must focus on Amelia yet again. Perhaps we will have an Amelia free episode in the near future so I will be able to focus on other things. :)
First, I have been hoodwinked and gullible. Here I thought Mariana was the main villain when it may well be her not so dear sibling.
"(What a bitter, cruel, selfish, heartless woman and the look she gave Pedro as she left said it all)." Yes Anita, her harshness was startling (even after everything she had done prior).
How quickly and easily Amelia rejected her few supporters: Pedro, Ignacio and yes even Lupe from her thoughts and life.
"Amelia turns on her friend and tells her she has no right to get involved in her life. Lupe wants to know since when. She was always there when Amelia felt lost, needed advice or wanted to complain. Amelia says she doesn’t need her anymore". And with those dismissive words, Amelia easily turns her back and puts these inconsequential pawns out of her life.
I do feel badly for Carlos and Fernanda but Fernanda has bigger problems that trying to understand her man whom everyone can't seem to keep their hands off of! Wait until she and Luis meet. Way too much to contend with, especially with Fernanda's gentle heart.
When will this all be too much?
Anita, thank you, thank you!
Diana
"He calls her mi amor. She bristles"
Father and daughter had to be busted up this way but Fernanda is not 10.
Lisette is perfect for this role but she naturally has a stoned smirk on her face so perhaps the scene and her stoned smirk just synced.
Amelia had to make her rounds to stomp on the little people, not even using Pedro's name but referring to him as "that guy". Lupe was right but wasted words on the soulless.
Oops, Luis connected Camila with the scammer but cannot wait till the scammer proves to be his daughter. Don't know what I want to see more. His face or Fernanda's.
Does Carlos suffer from paralysis or is dumbstruck easily?
It is sad to see she's taken out her bitterness and resentment on the people who love her the most and as Diana said, her only supporters, Pedro, Lupe and Ignacio.
I kind of thought Ignacio was hoping she would divorce Pedro and start a new life that included work and him. I'm sure he did not intend to leave her as a cleaning lady for the rest of her career. He had been impressed by her credentials at the interview. He did promise to be there and support her, but she rejected the offer in exchange for the easy life at the hacienda.
Her rejection of Lupe was classic transference. She assigns traits to Lupe which she herself exhibits--jealousy and envy, for what everyone has and she doesn't. She feels entitled. She feels no remorse leaving Lupe behind. She's off to board the gravy train.
She wants her 18-year-old life back. But it will come with a price. Her daughter's happiness.
Did anyone see the movie, "Room?" There is a strong parallel here. Amelia wants her old life back. The one she knew. She won't have any trouble adjusting to all the people and things she was familiar with in the past. Fernanda, on the other hand, has never known anything but her small, bare cottage (although exposed to another lifestyle at the school she attended), her raggedy clothes, her mother (difficult to live with), her father (whom she adores), a godmother who listens, a BFF with whom she gets along fairly well and a new love (gone wrong). Her adjustment to new physical surroundings and a lot of people who knew her mother before but are new to her, will be much more difficult. It will also be harder for her to forget her past life than it will be for Amelia.
Yes, Tofie, Carlos is dumbstruck easily AND suffers from galanbesoparalysis (a Vivi-coined perfect term). We've gotten used to it, but it still grates when we see it and this tn has been less cliché-ridden than others. How else to keep them apart under new circumstances? Maybe her being moved to the hacienda might have been enough. She misses him. He finally locates her, but....well, I'm not the writer, only the reporter.
BTW--My family will be arriving very late tonight. I may be able to watch the episode tonight and put up some kind of skeleton you all can glue the meat onto. I will keep you informed.
I did not see "Room".
Yes, I agree it will be far more difficult for the sweet, loving Fer to transition to her more luxurious surroundings. I suspect her mother will not be the slightest bit more loving, kind or interested in her. I sense her aunt will make it as unpleasant as possible for her and she will miss her father's love terribly.
I hope she and Carlos reconcile. He has made mistakes but none of them were intentionally cruel and hurtful. Misunderstandings have abounded but at the core, he is loving and sweet. Fernanda needs him now more than ever.
Diana
I almost forgive (and that's loosely and not really true) your indifference and evil attitude towards Pedro. But Lupe and Ignacio? Are you kidding me?
You quit your job (okay, I won't squawk it's a cleaning not professional position and you don't need to clean - snobby b**ch!), but turning on Lupe? Damn, do you like anybody other than those evil people you call family? I really can't wait until you get yours! payback is a Amelia (you see what I did there) LOL!
I don't think Amelia has any idea who Mariana really is, nor Hernan the Pimp. Her father's short term memory is faulty and Luis hovering is no guardian angel. She's moving into a viper's nest. Only Nana Blanca will offer her any loving care. I wonder how long it will take before Amelia turns on her!
Theres a special place in hell for people like amelia. She told lupe she didn't need her anymore cuz shes got her family. That woman was the only one that could stomach her nasty but, and now she treats her like something under her shoe.
And she twist the knife in pedro's heart. All of this will come back to bite her but off. And it will be well deserved. Cause She is a "HATEFUL HEFFA"!!!!
"He didn"t expect to be attacked by a teenager in lust". She is such an annoying little twit. Horrible hermin should send her off to school, maybe she'll find some poor unsuspecting rich guy to jump. That would make her poor broke dad happy.
Isy crying real tears, don't count her out. Stupid could go get drunk think hes havin sex with fer. And its one of them "oops"pregnancies. An old soap opera trick. More drama tomorrow.
Thank you Anita. I luuuuves yo recaps♡♡♡♡♥♥♥♥♡♡♡♡♡
Here are some quick scene changes. Will work on an expanded version right after.
1. Sister Rosaura visits Pedro. He tells her Amelia took Fer. Fer is of age, she doesn't have to stay with her. Rosaura says Amelia is the worst person she's ever known. Pedro says Fer is obedient and will do anything Amelia says--he taught her.
2. In the car, Amelia tells Fer Pedro is not her father. Someone else is. Fer doesn't believe her and doesn't have time to tell her. (Note: Fer is wearing a seat belt, Amelia is not.)
3. Mariana has paid some shady mechanic to fix the brakes so they fail on the car she gave Amelia. Amelia can't drive. Mariana provides a chauffeur.
4. A big dog crosses in front of the car on a lonely highway. The driver is already aware the brakes don't work, but he swerves to avoid the dog. The car ends up down a wooded embankment. Amelia is thrown out of the car. The rescue squad arrives immediately.
5. Carlos tries to talk to Pedro about Fer. He wants to know where she is. Pedro tells him Amelia took her away. He won't tell Carlos where.
6. Don Fer is waiting for Amelia to show up with his granddaughter. Luis goes to her house looking for her. He treats Sister Rosaura like the jerk he is.
7. The accident victims are transported to the hospital. (Apparently there are only two surviviors.)
8. Marissa tells Isy she doesn't know Carlos at all if she thinks he'll take her back.
9. Luis comes to see Pedro and they threaten each other. Pedro doesn't tell him where Amelia and Fer are.
10. Carlos returns home without finding out where Fer is. Marissa comforts him. He's called to the hospital for the emergencies.
11. Carlos finds out one of the patients he is to treat is Fernanda. He won't leave her side. They have to remove him forcibly.
12. Carlos goes to the chapel to pray for Fer's recovery. He's not used to praying.
13. They call Carlos to see the other patient. They are losing her. He sees it's Amelia. He uses the defibrillator to restart her heart.
14. Luis comes home and treats Rosario like the jerk he is, even though she's been ordered bed rest by Carlos.
15. Mariana is beside herself not knowing whether Amelia and her daughter are alive or not. (And what about the chauffeur?) She calls Luis. He's pretty pithed he hasn't located them, but he won't rest until he finds Amelia.
16. Old Fer leaves home without telling anyone and comes to comfort Carlos (will find out why later). Fernanda needs blood. There's no more of her type in the blood bank. Old Fer is the same type and volunteers to donate. He thinks he knows the girl from somewhere, but he can't remember.
17. Isy cries in her tequila. (Good, I'm glad.) She still thinks she can win Carlos back, if not with Marissa's help, then all by her lonesome.
18. Carlos wonders if he should tell Pedro about the accident.
Ok, I'm going to get back to my expanded recap. When it's done, I'll delete the Temporary one, except for the part about the dog calling 911. Has anyone ever seen an ambulance respond that quickly and on that lonely road, no one called them? Too bad that didn't happen to Renata in CME.
Let's start with "THE DOG CALLED 911" - brilliant!
Could there have been a more despicable and ill-timed opportunity for Amelia to shatter Fer’s world by telling her Pedro is not her father? Amelia's is soulless. At this point, the person I feel sorriest for is old Fer. To have not just one, but two (partly) human daughters seems intolerably cruel.
"They call Carlos to see the other patient. They are losing her. He sees it's Amelia. He uses the defibrillator to restart her heart". So Anita, it's been confirmed by the experts that Amelia does have a heart? Hard to fathom.
Nina, yes, your description of how Amelia treats everyone was perfect!
I'm not sure Carlos should say anything to Pedro. When he got out of bed to pick up the wallet and Amelia and Fer's pictures, he was in emotional agony. I don't think he can take any more.
When will Old Fer see Amelia? The poor, poor man.
Anita, have a wonderful time with your family.
Look forward to reading your recap later today...
Diana
I really liked last night's episode, bareing, as it did so much that has been hidden
Like all tns, this one plays fast and loose with medical stuff. Two examples:
1) The maximum survival rate for CPR is something on the order of 20%, yet Carlos is hitting 100% with Amelia and Pedro.
2) When you do a surgical scrub, you have your scrub outfit on, and your hat AND mask on. You do not have your gown on. You walk into the OR with your hands wet and held outward slightly at chest level, and an OR tech hands you a sterile towel to dry your hands with, then they help you into your OR gown, and then help you put on sterile gloves. You can touch your chest and your stomach, but moving your hands anywhere else is considered "breaking sterile."
Your title was great!! I too wondered how the emergency personnel even knew about the accident, let alone arriving so promptly.
They are painting Amelia as such a soulless person. I am wondering if she is going to have a resurrection moment and turn her attitude around, suddenly valuing Fer an Pedro the way she should have done all those 20 years?
Diana, I too felt sorry for old Fer with his diminished mental capacity. I hope he has enough lucid moments left for him to get reacquainted with his daughter, and to get to know his granddaughter.
I wonder how Camila is going to react to the knowledge that Fer, the jardinero's daughter is in reality the princess of the realm as well as the true love of Carlos? Somehow, I don't think that friendship is going to be able to weather that kind of stress.
By the way, a note on word usage. You used the word "pithed" as a more genteel substitution for the word "pissed." However, "pithed" is an actual word. It refers to a technique where a large bore needle is inserted into the vertebral column of a lab animal, thus severing the spinal cord. This renders them insensate and unable to move any body part below the level of the neck, so experiments can be carried out without hurting the animal. However, you used that word to describe Luis, and there is no one on this earth I would rather see pithed than Luis.
Well, I don't know how many family members have descended on your household, but I hope you have a wonderful visit!!!
Thanks again, Anita.
David
Still smiling David! ITA...Thank you...
Diana
Oh David couldn't have put it better myself about Luis. Without realizing it whenever he bullies somebody I'm up off the couch pacing and gesturing most unladylike.
You know, Amelia waking with amnesia or reformed after this would be so not unfair.
Hope Camila tells her father Luis was harassing her
Yeah Pedro, I wonder too why you told Fernanda to go with her mother
Why would Marissa even speak to Isabela again?
I may be the lone wolf, because I don't feel sorry for Old Fer aka "Hades" he created those monsters. I have a twinge of sympathy for his attempts to reconcile with his granddaughter (because it's not her fault that she was born), but that's it!
Isy drowning her 'whoa is me' attitude was awesome!
Bummed that Amelia didn't die, but then that's too good for her. Living in misery is what's perfect for that sorry a** witch.
I saw it playing out in my head yesterday (minus the accident). Not a spoiler, just a guess. Fer is mad at Carlos, but the one person she will not turn away from is her dad who has no place to go seeing as how Amelia divorced and left him. So why not take the rich lady up on her offer to move in and be pampered. So, of course, that gives Carlos all the time in the world to woo her back because she will visit her daddy and for Marissa to nurse and fall in love with him back to manhood. Like really, that man's abs and arms would keep me home.
At the moment, I change my vote on who will figure it out first. I thought Blanca, but I think it will be Luis. Still not for a while because Pedro will be far removed and Luis is too snobbish to care about seeing him. I may change again (I'm a woman), but right now that's where I place my chips.
José and Cesarín are visiting Pedro in his hospital room. He’s crying. His sister, The Sister now arrives. Pedro tells her they’ve gone. He’s lost Fernanda. It’s like losing his life. Rosaura reminds him Fer is of age and she won’t stay away. Through his tears, Pedro says it won’t happen. Fer is obedient and will obey Amelia—he knows, he taught her. Rosaura says Amelia is the worst person she’s ever known.
In the car, Fernanda continues questioning Amelia regarding her and Pedro getting thrown out because she was pregnant. What was the big deal, she and Pedro got married afterwards. Amelia is curt and terse. Her father was very strict and controlling. It was something he would not forgive. Fer says, but now he does? Amelia says what was humiliating to her father was that it was a gardener. Fer decides if this grandfather can’t forgive her father, then she doesn’t want to have anything to do with him. She’s serious.
Luis is outside and is going to confront Camila, who, if she opens her mouth about the lawsuit, could end his financially advantageous gig as Old Fer’s company’s legal representative. Nana Blanca catches him and tells him they have things to clear up. She knows Mariana was the one who invented that story of Amelia selling her baby to foreigners. She knows a shark or two when she sees one (she used the word “caimán,” an alligator or crocodile, but the image wasn’t strong enough). She knows Mariana does not want to see Old Fer’s inheritance go to Amelia’s daughter and she’s just as sure Luis has already had a look-see around the place at the fortune Old Fer has. She’s sure that’s the motivation for his interest in Amelia and her daughter. Luis can’t respond.
Mariana is gloating over her sure-fire plan for never having Amelia and her bastard daughter show up. She tells us in flashback how she paid a shady mechanic to fix it so the brakes fail and then paid him in cash. When she presented the car to Amelia as a gift, she even offered to send her a chauffeur since Amelia didn’t know how to drive. [Warning: Always check your brakes before you drive if you are involved in a nasty divorce or a contested will.] So, for Mariana, this is the only way to keep her daddy’s fortune safely in her hands.
She’s a cold-hearted killer hiding behind a sisterly smile and a hug.
The car is picking up speed, so is Fernanda’s speech. Fernanda wants the driver to turn around and go back. Amelia says Fernanda has no choice. Fer is going to live with her and her grandfather. She’s to forget about Pedro, just as Amelia is going to forget about the 19 years she had to spend with him. She disses him. Fernanda reacts, defending her father as a good provider, etc. Amelia then drops the daddy-bomb. Pedro is not her father. Fer is stunned. She thinks it’s a stupid lie because Amelia is mad at her. No, she’s not lying. Her “real” father is a man she loved with all her heart—and still loves.
The car is leaking brake fluid. The innocent driver realizes the brakes don’t work. He’s doing pretty well, although they are heading down hill. Then a dog crosses his path and he swerves to avoid hitting it. The car careens over the embankment and crashes into trees. Amelia is thrown clear of the car. It looks like she might have broken her neck (wishful thinking on my part). The driver and Fer are still inside.
Pedro is still suffering from withdrawal symptoms (from Fernanda). He’s going to be alone. He’ll never see her again. The three console him at his bedside.
Help has arrived at the crash site miraculously -- police, two ambulances and a handful of fire and rescue personnel. They get to work bringing the victims up.
Luis finally gets to Camila. He tells her he knows who she is. She’s the friend of that scam artist. Cam looks at him but doesn’t say anything. She’s saved from having this grinning gorilla in her face by Mariana calling him in for lunch. After lunch Luis goes to look for Amelia. Mariana calms down her dad.
Carlos knocks and enters Pedro’s room. Pedro is not too pleased to see him, especially when Carlos says he’s not there as his doctor, but as a man. He wants to talk about Fernanda. Pedro says not to touch that wound. Amelia took her away, forever. Carlos wants to know what he means. Pedro says Amelia left him and took Fer to live with her. Carlos wants to, needs to know where Fernanda is. Pedro says he doesn’t need to, or want to talk to him. Carlos begs. He’s aware Pedro may have the wrong impression of him, but it’s not a true one. He won’t leave until he knows where she is.
Carlos isn’t getting anywhere with Pedro. Pedro doesn’t quite believe the fake pregnancy trick. Carlos is ashamed to admit it, because he respects women, but Isabel used that ruse to separate him from Fernanda. Pedro wonders how he can even show himself after what he did to Fernanda. Carlos protests, he didn’t do anything to Fernanda, but he does have to admit he still had the other novia when he asked Pedro if he could have permission to see Fer. He admits he was a coward not to tell Fer about it then. The rest is true. Pedro doesn’t care what’s true and what isn’t, but what *is* true is that Carlos deceived her, deceived them both.
Carlos says it was not his intention to hurt Fer. Pedro says, but he did! Carlos shattered an innocent girl’s feelings, especially being her first novio. He can’t now just waltz in here and ask forgiveness. Fer is suffering and that is something Pedro can never forgive. Carlos leaves without learning where Fer is.
Luis arrives at the cottage. No one answers his knocks. Rosaura sees him circling the cottage and asks Luis what he’s doing there. He snaps at her that he doesn’t have to explain to her or to anybody. Rosaura says he does, she’s the director of this school. He only cares about finding Amelia and her daughter. (Luis, excuse me, you may be upset, frustrated and angry you can’t find Amelia and Fernanda, but only an ass-hole would speak to a nun that way, school director or not.)
At that very moment, Fer and Amelia are being loaded into the ambulances, unconscious. Both are wearing neck braces.
Luis turns his back on Rosaura and starts shouting Amelia’s name. Rosaura speaks sharply to him—he must be the man Amelia is leaving Pedro for. She lauds Pedro’s qualities to the hilt, how Amelia had done him wrong and he’s in the hospital. He sneers, don’t make him cry. She looks back at Luis and says he and Amelia are cut from the same cloth (tal para cual). Luis strides off and calls someone to find out where Pedro is hospitalized.
Marissa has come to see Isabela. Isy feels awful about what she did. Marissa does, too. She had such illusions of seeing the two of them married. It was a stupid thing to do. Isy knows that, she’s been crying for days. Right now Carlos hates her, but she’s going to win him back. Marissa says how little she really knows Carlos. On the contrary, says Isy, this fling with Fernanda isn’t going to last. He’ll be back to forgive her. She adds triumphantly that Fer isn’t woman enough for Carlos. She’s met her, talked to her, they can’t possibly have anything in common. Marissa says he’s deeply in love with her. Isy insists he needs a woman of his social, educational and cultural level.
Pedro leans back to catch his breath after Carlos leaves, only to have Luis walk in and take it away again. Luis demands to know where Amelia and *his* daughter are. Pedro is not going to tell him. Unfortunately, Pedro is not in a position to give him another sock in the jaw, but tells him to stop bothering Amelia and his daughter or he’ll kill him. Luis leaves.
Carlos gets home. Marissa greets him but can tell things didn’t go well with Pedro. Carlos told him everything, but he wouldn’t listen and won’t forgive him for the hurt he caused Fer. Marissa comforts him. Did he get to talk to Fer, she asks. No, the strange thing is Amelia took Fer away and Pedro wouldn’t say where. Carlos takes a call from the hospital. Two gravely injured accident victims have just been brought in. He leaves for the hospital.
The two victims have been brought in. (I guess the driver went to the morgue. We don’t hear anything about him.) Carlos checks in. He preps (improperly, according to our resident expert, David) to operate on the more severely injured victim. The anesthetist hasn’t quite put her under yet as Carlos approaches. He sees it’s Fernanda, mi amor. He is astounded and gets agitated. He’s calling her name, asking her questions. She does say his name through her mask, then she’s out. His colleague realizes Carlos can’t operate on this patient and won’t let him stay in the operating room. He has to be escorted out.
Carlos is so distraught he goes to the chapel to pray, even though it’s not something he’s done for a long while. He asks for Fer’s recovery. Pedro has had a spiritual moment of his own, seeing the photos of his daughter and Amelia lying on his wallet, next to a prayer card. He wonders how they are doing, if they are alright and decides to go to the chapel himself.
The two meet in the chapel and seem ready to talk. Amelia has flatlined. They find Carlos in the chapel and he has to leave Pedro. He applies the paddles. Meanwhile, in the other operating room, Fer has lost a lot of blood. She needs a transfusion. It will be a miracle if she make it.
Old Fer is still waiting for Amelia to appear. Nana Blanca is sure something happened to keep them away. Old Fer thinks it’s Amelia who can’t forgive him for what he did. She hates him. It was just his illusion, thinking that just wishing for it would bring her running back. Blanca tells him not to give up hope. Old Fer is sure he’ll die alone in this big house. Mariana is listening behind him.
Luis is still furious with Pedro as he gets home. Nana Rosario greets him. He roars, what’s for dinner. Rosario will check with Clarita. Luis, still in his roaring mode, says, since when does Clarita take care of the cooking? Well, Rosario has been feeling unwell lately and Carlos ordered bed rest for her. Luis scoffs at the idea—Carlos says? This is not a place for resting, so get thee to the kitchen and get him something to eat, fast, if she wants to keep her job. Rosario does what she’s told without protesting. (I report this incident only because I want Caminantes to know unequivocally that Luis is an ass-hole.) Luis says to himself that the gardener doesn’t know who he’s dealing with. He can get his daughter away from him legally in any court.
Marissa comes out to greet him and asks how his day went. He says, like every day, nothing special. She starts to tell him about her visit to Isabel. He cuts her off. He’s not interested in the eternal problems of Carlos and Isabela. It’s all the same to him. Marissa just stares at him.
Old Fer has given up waiting for Amelia. He destroyed his own destiny as well as Amelia’s. Nana Blanca is still trying to animate him. He says he should have gone to Amelia himself and begged for forgiveness on bended knee.
Carlos is being praised by the nurse for saving this patient’s life. They don’t know who she is, she had no identification on her, so they couldn’t contact family. Carlos can identify her. She’s Amelia Perez. He’ll assume the responsibility for informing her family.
Mariana is beside herself with worry, wondering if the “brake job” worked. She decides to call Luis. He tells her he couldn’t find them at the house and he had to go to the hospital where Pedro was, but he wouldn’t tell him where they were. Pedro even threatened him. He’s not sure why they didn’t show up, but he isn’t going to rest until Amelia introduces him to his daughter.
Mariana and Blanca have an argument over the no-shows. Blanca says that Amelia and her daughter coming to live with them could very well be another story Mariana and Luis cooked up, for whatever reasons. All she knows is that it’s all been very upsetting to Old Fer. She doesn’t believe anything that comes out of Luis’ mouth. That’s it for Mariana. She’s off to find her father right away and tell him to fire Blanca. Mariana can’t find him.
Old Fer has come to the hospital to find Carlos. He wanted to talk to a friend, but he sees Carlos is in worse shape. Carlos must have told him something, because Old Fer wants to know how the accident happened to his novia. Carlos says it was a car accident. He’s very preoccupied and he’s sorry but he can’t spend quality time with Old Fer. He’s interrupted by the nurse who tells him his novia needs a transfusion and there’s none of her type O-RH Negative. It just happens to be Old Fer’s type and he volunteers to donate.
Isabela cries in her tequila. (Good. She deserves to have salty, watered down tequila.) Everyone finds her repugnant. She’ll win him back, though, even if she has to do it alone. Carolina gets home to find her in a sorry state. >>FF
Old Fer sees the girl who’s getting his blood. He’s sure he’s seen her before, but can’t remember where or when.
Carlos ponders how or whether to tell Pedro about the accident. He decides he must do it and walks out of view.
David--We certainly learn things here, besides enjoying a good story, well acted. I never knew pithed had a real meaning. My daughter-in-law just asked, didn't you ever pith a frog in biology? I said, no, I'd only dissected them!
Also it was interesting to learn the real prep involved before going into an operating room. They wear kind of flimsy blue plastic gowns on these shows, too, blousy, too.
I also learned I was saying unequivocally wrong all these years. I was sticking an "ably" on the end instead of just plain "ally."
It may be awhile before the two Fernandas become one. I thought maybe it would be Carlos, or maybe even Camila, or in a long shot, Marissa. I like they are making us wait. I really thought the game would be up and Amelia would get her way. I, for one, think amnesia or reformed would be too easy a way out of her coma. Sorry, Tofie. She not only needs to suffer and become more self-aware of what kind of person she's is, but she needs to see who Mariana and Luis really are and the game they've been playing on Fernanda before she gets any reformation.
I don't want Amelia back with Pedro, but I want her to realize what she lost AND to see him happy and in love with someone else. In her present state she would just think it's payback for leaving him and would not blame herself. And if she sees him with a rich and classy lady, all the better!
Ok, I'm the chef tonight. Fixing a crockpot variation of Cochinito Pibil (thanks to the other Carlos' recipe).
See you all on Monday. If anyone is willing to post highlights of tonights episode, it would be wonderful to keep up the continuity--especially when we will probably have both accident victims wake up.
I read your expanded and enhanced recap with much joy.
"His sister, The Sister" and "She knows a shark or two when she sees one (she used the word “caimán,” an alligator or crocodile, but the image wasn’t strong enough)" were great.
"Amelia is thrown clear of the car. It looks like she might have broken her neck (wishful thinking on my part)". I was thinking the same thing Anita! I will reserve all of my pity for Fernanda, and of course, Carlos.
"Marissa says he’s deeply in love with her. Isy insists he needs a woman of his social, educational and cultural level". Oh. Does Isy know anyone of that caliber? ;) Ahh, such an ego!
Anita, I do think Amelia's greatest punishment would be the revelation of the treasures she had in Pedro and Fernanda and "lose" them thereafter. Pedro deserves to be with Marissa and Fernanda back near her loving father. Of course, another rebuff by Luis seems fitting and that will surely occur if she has any thoughts of any romantic future for the two of them.
Have a wonderful weekend with your family.
Diana
1. Marissa is bringing the gardener who fell from there tree home because she feels responsible for his accident - Luis knows all of this
2. The gardener, Pedro, who he just visited in the hospital is keeping him from "his" daughter. What a dumba**!
Now these other things might seem coincidental, last name, etc. but could there really be 2 gardeners in the hospital at the same time in equal distance from the school and the Gomez Ruiz estate? Get the fudge out of here with the bull!
Nasty woman with the sweet daughter....you know the one, " THE MEAN HEFFA". Ya gotta be cold and heartless to do what she did. She acts as if shes the only one thats been hurt. But her gettin knocked up by a lowlife is not fernanda's
Fault or pedro's. But shes been hatin on them for 19+ freakin years like they were the reason for her stupid bad ass decisions.
You're right that ol man don't deserve those two daughters from hell. Im surprised he's not dead already. Well the show's not over yet, theres still time. But not before he meets his sweet grandfaughter, who is nothing like that heffa who Calls herself a mother.
Ok gotta go rest, its heen a long day. Anita you're a Gem. Thanks again :-)
The poor man had holes in virtually every piece of clothing he has every worn. Therefore, was it really necessary that his hospital gown had holes too?? I could hardly believe there are small holes/cuts around the neckline.
I did not understand the conversations (which is so frustrating), but Pedro was in tears, beseeching Amelia with his tears and pitiful pleas to know he loves her. Her accident appears to have nothing to draw out Amelia's poisonous venom. She realizes she is physically paralyzed but her bitterness and anger are free flowing, unabated. Poor Fernanda was witness and left in what was surely pure mental torture.
Almost as unbelievable was that Lupe and Ignacio were also genuinely upset at Amelia's misfortune! Amelia threw Lupe's friendship back in her face with scorn and ridicule. Yet this sweet person cried and hugged Pedro as the two commiserated. Ignacio spoke with Amelia and she spewed more contemptible bile...
I hope someone who understood the dialog will be able to post something of this pivotal episode.
I don't believe old Fer is aware of the accident.
Diana
Okay I thought, when Amelia was in a coma, that the amnesia trope was a predictable outcome, and a way for her character to magically shed all her nastiness. Pero no. Instead, she wakes up even nastier than ever. Whaaaa...?
Plus, she is openly rejecting her daughter, the "love child" of the man she supposedly adores. Sorry, it makes not a bit of sense. Of course Fernanda is crying to her Dad, saying "what are we going to do without the love of mama?" Honeychild, you never had it. So sad.

I loathe Amelia...I really really do and while death would be too good for her, I was really hoping she would die so Fer and Pedro could both be free of this hideous bitter bruja! It's absolutely fitting that Amelia is left paralyzed. I know we had glimpses of the young Amelia being trusting and naive with Luis and her sister, but do we really know if she was the sweet angelic child Don Fer and NaNa Blanca think she was? Is it possible that being jilted and left pregnant as a young girl and having this hard life would make Amelia so mean and haughty towards everyone? She was so excited to go back to her family home, but it appeared she just wanted to get back to the lap of luxury and not really about being with her family/father. Maybe my pov is just tainted by how much I despise miss bitchy bangs!
I like Pedro, he has such a huge joyful heart, he seems to find beauty in anything and looks for the best in others..even when they don't deserve it (I'm looking at you bitchy bangs). I'm not sure who he is going to ultimately be with but I prefer it not be the bruja. She has given him nothing but pure vinegar and misery for nineteen years. It's fine that she never fell in love with him, but he does not deserve her cruelty and scorn and constant demeaning and disparaging. I want Pedro to be happy and loved the way he deserves to be by anyone OTHER than Amelia.
On the other hand, I'm puzzled how she can carry a torch for a man who treated her like a used napkin after he wiped his grime all over her. Amelia was nothing but a good time for loose Luis and he cared even less for the child she carried. It's obvious she sees Fernanda as the reason she lost Luis and the reason she lost her social status. I fear if Fernanda does somehow manage to forge a relationship with her bio father Luis and becomes the apple of Don Fer's eyes (no doubt) Amelia is going to leash even more of her jealous wrath on Fernanda. Between her mother and Mariana and possibly Camilla, poor Fernanda is going to be sitting in a den of hyenas. I really hope she will be reunite with Carlos soon, she is really going to need him and NaNa Blanca.
I hated seeing pedro begging her and all she did was spit at him. And she didn"t care if her daughter heard her disrespect a man that gave his heart and soul to a little girl and her.........vampire of a mother so they'd have some simblence if a life. Cause amelia was to selfish to care for her own child. Her sister wont have to have her killed. In the words of the famous sheriff Andy Griffith once said about another nasty person, " Shes gonna NASTY away".
Carlos better stick close to fer cuz shes gonna need him. No matter how much she fusses. And pedro is going to need marissa.
''Hey maybe that hospital don't have the money fo r new gowns. I didn't notice his hospital gown, but mmHg ext week if hes still in there Im gonna look for his holey gown. That does seem to be a place for the poor. Remembet that episode farther back whrn carlos gave that patient of his the money for her meds cuz she couldn't aford it. Carlos hit mom up for a donation so they can at least have some new gowns. Poor people deserve nice things too, even when they're sick.
I hated Pedro's begging worse than the vitriol from Bitchy Bangs. How can Fernanda continue to respect him?
Ignacio is an idiot.
Don Fer's Alzheimer's is getting worse. Such a sad disease. So Don Fer is going to run off to the beach with the housekeeper? I'll bet that wouldn't have gone over very well 20 years ago.
Amelia is a twisted mass of hatred and ignorance who never learned anything about life in her luxurious youth. Always the spoiled taker, never the giver. The only thing she learned in 20 years of marriage was how to make tacos.
At some point Fer has to think that a doctor who would sit by her side all night long is perhaps not conducting himself like a womanizer.
Luis approach to his wife, his mistress, Amelia and his friend are super revealing about his soul, or lack thereof. I suppose he would be capable of virtually anything in order to accomplish his sociopathic self indulgence.
Pedro, the selfless, love-struck, cast off spouse is demeaning himself, and Ignacio isn't far behind.
Well, Anita, hope you had a wonderful weekend with your family!!
David
I was going to do the Friday recap, but I didn't want to promise and it's a good thing that I didn't. I fell asleep when I tried to watch around 11pm. Saturday I was out the entire day. So Sunday afternoon when I actually found the time, if felt ridiculous to try to do it then.
That episode was something that I saw coming. Not the paralyzed part (I missed that, but I should have seen it based on the way she hit that rock), but her telling Fer and Pedro that she hated them. I was wondering when she would do it.
I want to say something about the upcoming episode's commercial, but I'll wait until after it airs as not to provide spoilers to anyone who may not have seen what I saw.
Diana--I fear Pedro's begging will only be a repeat, wash, rinse, repeat, but check back later and I'll let you know if he came up with anything new.
Anita, "I fear Pedro's begging will only be a repeat, wash, rinse, repeat". Yes. We must hope for an Amelia free episode. And soon. These are really difficult to watch.
Diana
Please forgive any grammar and spelling errors. I'm posting this from my handwritten notes to save time. This is another one of those scene-change recaps, with details of Amelia and Pedro's bedside dialog. (I wouldn't call it a conversation.)
--It's still the night of the accident.
1. Carlos checks in on Pedro. Pedro apologizes for earlier behavior. He's worried about Amelia and Fernanda. He wonders why Fer hasn't communicated with him. Carlos is about to tell him, but he's called away by an emergency.
2. Old Fer recognizes Fer from somewhere, but can't remember where. Carlos comes in and reminds him he's met her before, at his house. Old Fer swears he's never seen her before, but is certain she reminds him of someone. He tells Carlos to take care of her.
3. Mariana is still worried about Old Fer. Hernan thinks he walked away, because the cars are still there. Nana Blanca thinks he went to see Amelia and ask for her forgiveness. Mariana scoffs because he doesn't know where Amelia lives.
4. Carlos decides to spend the night by Fer's side. He expresses his love for her. He kneels by her side and tells her he can't live without her and kisses her gently on the lips.
--The next morning
5. Pedro wakes up to find Carlos sitting on his bed. He tells Pedro about the accident. Pedro can't believe it. He gets very agitated. He wants to know how his family is. Carlos tells him Fernanda was gravely injured, but will be ok. Amelia is between life and death.
6. Diego and Lucero are still trying to cram her head with factoids she'll need to pass her exam. They are so happy she can remember the date of Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo. There is a mutual hug, followed by a kiss Lucero plants on his lips. She asks his pardon. Diego says there's nothing to be forgiven for. They look at each other. Lucero replays the aftermath of the kiss after Diego leaves. Diego backs away and says, pretty much not believing what he says, that this can't be, she's just a young girl. Lucero doesn't think age should matter if two people love each other. They should be together.
7. Fer wakes up. The nurse tells her she was in an accident and her mother is in bad shape. She wants to go see her. Nurse tells her she can't get up. She'll go get Dr. Gomez. That's when Fernanda finds out she's in his hospital. Nurse tells her he was so attentive to her, he spent the whole night by her side. She needs to know how her mother is. She keeps replaying the scenes from before the accident in her head, hearing her mother say Pedro is not her real father. Carlos comes in to check on her as she's trying to get up.
8. Pedro comes in to see Amelia. She's in a coma, but he pours his heart out to her. He's always loved her, always will. She has to recover, for her daughter, for herself, for him. She must be strong and fight. Nurse comes running in and gets him out. There is a crisis. Pedro stands by the door and watches while the doctor works on Amelia. Apparently she was losing vital signs and they paddle her again.
7A. Fer feels awful. She doesn't know how she ended up in this very hospital. Carlos thinks it was fortunate, otherwise, he would never have known where she was. Fer says she needs to see her mother. Carlos has his hand over hers. Then he leans down and kisses her hand.
9. Mariana thinks her plan must have worked because Amelia and her daughter never arrived. If they are dead, though, why hasn't anyone notified them. Old Fer told Carlos the night before he'd take a taxi home, so he must have made it. He comes in for breakfast, hale and hearty. However, he doesn't remember a thing about being in a hospital to donate blood. Mariana said he save the life of Carlos' novia (the one Mariana met the day Carlos brought her to the hacienda to visit Old Fer).
10. Rosaura has arrived at the hospital after she heard about the accident. She finds Pedro. He hasn't been to see Fernanda yet, because he needs to wait to hear if Amelia is out of danger from a crisis. He's waiting for word. Dr. Macias comes to tell him, looking very grave. After a commercial break, he tells Pedro she's stable but because she wasn't wearing a seat belt, she was thrown from the car and is now paralyzed from the waist down.
11. Luis ponders sorrowfully on all he's lost, Amelia, Fernanda and Andrea. He'll start by winning Andrea back. He'll buy her a ruby ring surrounded by diamonds. I t carries a expensive price tag and a bill of sale to go with it.
12. Lupe and Ignacio find out about the accident. Iggy learns Amelia is paralyzed. He and Lupe decide to go to the hospital.
13. Amelia is awake and back to her old self. Actually she's worse than before because Pedro has come to see her. She wants him to get out and leave her alone. Pedro begs her not to send him away, he's her husband. She reminds him he's soon to be her ex, an idiot and a good for nothing gardener. Pedro pleads, the divorce isn't final yet, they can still be happy together. She says if they couldn't be happy in 19 years, what makes him think they could be now. She was never happy, not for a single second with him. He thinks he can make things better. (Carlos is seen pushing Fernanda slowly toward this boiling cauldron of hate.) She's yelling at Pedro that she hates him with all her heart and soul. Fernanda hears her.
Pedro is still begging. How can she feel that way about him and Fer. They've given her their best every day. She just can't like them, it's just not in her. She should never have had Fernanda. She should have had a life at home, surrounded by luxuries, living the life she should have had. Pedro ask her not to say those things in front of Fer. Am says she can say what she wants. She doesn't want to know anything more about then, nor to see them again ever in her whole life. Pedro and Fer are in tears.
Pedro is still begging. He doesn't want her to distance herself from them, now that they both need her so much. Amelia says she can and she will. Pedro says what will he do without her, he loves her. Amelia tells him to stop behaving like such a coward. At this point Fer tries to speak up. Amelia says pointedly to Fer, she doesn't want to know anything more about her. The two of them cause her disgrace and alienation from her family and doesn't want them part of her life. Fer wishes she wouldn't talk like that. Amelia says now that she's paralyzed, she has even less of her life than before. She scream at Fer to get out. Carlos pulls her back out of the room. She makes Pedro leave, too. She then mumbles into her hand (but I think I caught her drift). Will Luis want her as a woman, a paralyzed woman.
14. Nana Blanca reminisces of better times with Amelia when she lived with them and with Pedro when he worked for them. Old Fer finds her tearing up. He thinks they should take a little vacation to the beach, especially away from Mariana who is trying to drive him crazy. He asks Nana Blanca to go with him.
Surprisingly, Mariana is all for the trip. In fact, she's very encouraging because it will give her time to find out what happened to Amelia and her daughter and if they are alive, she will have to kill them.
15. Lupe and Iggy have arrived at the hospital and console each other. He shares that he fell in love with Amelia despite all her sorrow, bitterness, trials and tribulations in her life. He's going to win her heart.
16. Pedro is walking out with Carlos and Fer. She is crying and gets out of her wheelchair. Carlos follows and holds her up. Lupe greets Pedro with a hug. It wasn't just the loss of her legs, he tells her, she's lost her soul. She was an angry woman before, but not a bad one. Now she's a woman without a heart. She's rejected him. He can bear it, but she also rejected their daughter. Iggy listens. Rosaura arrives and advises Pedro to take back his life. Fer needs him now more than ever.
17. Luis hopes the ring he bought Andrea brings her running back to him. He puts the bill of sale on his desk. Leo is there and they go out to lunch to talk. Luis tells Alicia to take the bill on his desk to accounting.
Marissa arrives just in time to miss Luis and to find the bill. She wonders who the ring is for, since there's no special occasion for him to buy it for her. She folds up the bill and sticks it in her purse. She's going to meet Luis and Leo at the restaurant.
Leo tells Luis how his romancing Isabela's assistant is going. One thing that is holding her back is she's seeing a married man, a man she still seems to be stuck on. She believes he's going to divorce his wife, but he and Luis know that's an old story and it'll never happen. Luis deflects any suspicion by labelling her a gold digger looking for money. Leo tells Luis he'd better be careful how he speaks of her.
18. Ignacio comes in to see Amelia. She's grateful for his visit, but she wants to be alone. He says he's sorry she ended up paralyzed and understands her anger, but he doesn't understand why she said those things to Fernanda and Pedro. Ah, she says, so he didn't waste any time spreading the story. It's true. That's how she feels. Iggy wishes she'd think about it again, this is her family. She replies she has no option in Fer's case, but Pedro is nothing to her. Iggy thinks that just because she's lost the use of her legs, she's not useless. She has a lot to live for. He'll be there to support her. He puts his hand on her arm but she turns away from him.
19. Carlos has gotten Fer back into bed. Pedro finally comes to see her. They hug and cry. Fer says she can't take any more. How can she be ok when her mother wants no more to do with them. How can they be ok without her love. Carlos quietly leaves so they can be alone together.
