I'm so upset about Andres I'm not sure I even want to finish this TN.
 

Do you think that possibly Andres is not really dead and the bullets might have all been blanks? I'm wondering if this was all a ruse to trap Belen? Oh and I have a question. Who actually killed Cristina? Was that ever shown?

I too hope this is some kind of ruse by Ayala or that Felipe and Manuela managed to get Andres some kind of early form of a bullet proof vest. It's just so sad and unfair! I'm going to hold on to hope (although possibly futile) a bit longer.

No, Cristina's murder has not been solved yet. Officially, it has since Alfredo confessed and served a time. At the time I didn't believe Sofia did it, and gave Belen the benefit of the doubt. Now that I know how vile and murderous they can both get, I believe it could have been either of them. I'm sure we'll find out as the final mysteries unravel.

I was sitting gently rocking in a corner after that ending. I REFUSE to believe Andres is dead. How could they??? Ok, I need to go to work and need to pull it together.

As much as we can be so aghast at Teresa and Sophia, frankly, that was the attitude of the day. A woman was no one without a man no matter what strides they were making in studies, education and politics. Those were baby steps at the time. But it was still hard to see that Teresa, played brilliantly by the way, seemed generally confounded why Isa couldn't just suck it up and be a good wife. She doesn't see how she used her own power to cheat her way to having the hotel in her hands, and then used her children, as Isa pointed out, as her tools to get what she wanted.

It was a little too much Jacinto last night, but the story was interesting and glad that it gave Lupe some closure. Good lord, that man is a saint to raise that ingrate who wasn't even his own son. And Violetta....you rock girl!! Still better not pair her down the road with that mope and let her move on to become a doctor herself. Like to see her under Mati's wings and off to school. Someone use those ill gotten gains for some good on her.

So we gather Belen set all this up with Ole and so she needs an a supersized anvil as well. Any ounce of sympathy we ever felt for her just went poof.

For some reason...I just loved the prayer scene in the servants hall. The simple shot leading to the expanded view and each servant joining in...powerful.

Than you, Vivi, for such a great recap of such a dramatic but satisfying episode filled with so many sad turns of events and stories.

The execution scene of Andrés was gut wrenching but very well done.

It sure did not take much except threats of jail (ha!ha!) to get Teresa back using Isabel as a bargaining tool.

Even Sofía was so pathetic admitting the whole truth of her situation to Isabel and saying without a man she was nothing which was not an uncommon view back then.

Then there was the whole Jacinto backstory that made him into a much more sympathetic character. Another sad tale except for Lupe's role.

Yes, Violeta was something else with her "flaming forceps." : )
 

Daisynjay- I think Jacinto's story and his story with Violeta is now wrapped up. He lost her heart with his actions, and she's now in love with Gabriel. I hope she becomes an amazing doctor and fixes Gabriel's sight. Her skills and grit will certainly be needed in the coming revolution.
 

Any guesses on how Doc Vic/Simon knows Diego's Mama/Clara/Juana? There's still the theory that he was Diego's suegro, but that would make it odd the Diego doesn't know him.

I can barely believe that Andres is dead, but here I think we have a sacrificial lamb. When he asked to see Angela one last time I was thinking that this would be just enough for Gabriel to get inside, but it was logical that he would be kept out. It was a time when handicapped people got far less sympathy and respect than today. All I could think of when the guard knocked out that poor defenseless fellow was "Is your bloodlust so great that it supercedes justice?"

Here's hoping that the entire town gets together to stone Belen to death after this. I was totally alarmed for and sympathetic toward her when Diego beat her up while she was in labor, but the idea of her making a grand entrance after Andres' execution is so vile that the only fate she deserves is the worst possible death. If she had set up Diego to be executed for her murder I might feel differently.

Sofia trying to get Isabel to be submissive to Diego was also repugnant. She is truly a head case and it's unlikely she will ever get better.

We weren't guaranteed a happy ending to this and I'm still worried for Isabel and Julio.

Vivi, Thank you for a super recap of a NEVER disappointing Hotel.

We have so many terrible people in this, GKK is almost forgotten.

If Doc/Simon is Diego's suegro, its odd Diego didn't recognize him.

Finally, Jacinto is not as much of a bastard as he usually is.

Teresa did look disturbed by Angela about Andres.
 

Now Ayala knows that Garrido is likely buried in the swamp. He also now knows about the cufflink in Diego's safe, and its pair should be found with the bodies of Garrido and the baby. What else is in that safe? Did Diego keep Rom's letter or did he eventually burn it? I think I remember him trying to burn it but stopping. If so, then it would be in that safe. Maybe we'll finally hear all that Rom confessed in that letter (we know he said stuff about Diego and Teresa). That letter wasn't just about Andres and his inheritance- that was just a small part (although the only part Belen latched on to, of course).

If the people in the cart were supposed to hide Gabriel, they didn't do a good job. Belen told Oleg that the blind guy would tattle on her.

Of all the crazy things Sofia has done and said, last night's speech was the craziest of them all - and she wasn't even on drugs that time. She's already received her anvil - her husband left her, and she has to live inside that incredibly sad head. (Of course, if it turns out that she killed Cristina, she'll get another anvil. But I still don't think she did that. Mostly because she never saw Cristina's bloody corpse in the bathtub the way she saw Beatriz.)

Andres. My first thought when the firing began was that this was a trick and he wasn't really dead. The last time I was so firmly convinced that someone wasn't dead was Fafy Cuenca, going way back to Querida Enemiga. It wasn't until well after the autopsy that it began to sink in for me that Fafy might really be dead. I hope Andres is more fortunate.

I think I know how Diego didn't recognize his suegro (if the doctor is indeed Diego's FIL). The doctor once told Jacinto that San Cristobal reminded him of some village in Spain. And way back at the beginning, when he was describing his qualifications to Teresa, it sounded as though he had spent a lot of time in the military in various places. So he may have been far away when his daughter got married. Maybe Diego would have seen a photo, but I doubt he would have paid much attention.

Regarding the letter. I honestly can't remember if Diego burned it or not. I think he eventually did, the same night Jacinto gave him the cufflink.
 

Julie- I think you're right about him eventually burning the letter, because I remember being upset that we never got to hear all the contents. Oh, well! There must be some other good stuff in that safe.

Ah yes, Fafy Cuenca. That was a sad death, mainly because I loved seeing how he tortured Sara. The other tn death that still hurts was Iñaki, the first novio of the heroine in En Nombre del Amor.

After Isabel escaped from Ben and Julio from a bullet to the head I thought for certain Andres would walk at the last second.

I liked and defended Belen but when she returned with Ole she's headed straight for hell since. What was she gonna do? Show up right before the firing squad pulled the trigger and yell it was a prank.

DnJ I too loved the prayer scene in the servants hall followed by Angela and Natalie in black leaving for the execution and the staff in the background in the servant hall.

NOOO , not Andres. He is the sweetest one of them all. If he is really dead than I wish for Belen to be shot to death by Angela in the same manner as Andres. He might have survived though since Felipe hinted " Do you believe in God?" before the stupid Feds sent him in firing range. Again Belen, burn in thousand infernos over and over again! Then I would rewind it all again just to see the glorious flames consume this sinful, absolutely vile , disgusting , compassionless monster !

I hope nothing happens to Gabriel . It would be way too sad and depressing.

So the doc knows Juana/ Clara. What history did they have together? It's strange that Diego, Clara and Doc have altered names. Doc needed a lot of power to mask his identity so did he know Romulo?

I felt annoyed when both Sophia & Teresa said such vile things to Isabel but they were right. Diego has them all in clutches. We don't know how much influence Diego still has due to his Freemason ties.
 

Tofie- I think she planned to arrive right after he was shot. She wants to inherit the hotel as the widow, and that's what Oleg, her accomplice, wants too. Showing up just after the execution, as if she were trying to stop it, would make her look like she was trying to be a good guy.

Andres' execution might also be a bluff arranged by Ayala to out the bad guys. I just convinced myself that is the case.

Ok, my LaLaLand theory, and I need to hold unto this, if that Manuela either sprung the Butch and Sundance gang or she got a group of renegades, hit up the firing squad before hand, and worked out a fake out death for Andres. All worked out while Felipe was in jail and let him know what to do. would explain the really awful lame plan they did first on the priest switch. I'm in my happy place thinking that's the truth and will ignore any and all future funerals.

Honestly, I took Belen thinking she was going to waltz in as the grieving, wealthy widow and lay claim to the hotel since Andres was now out of the picture. I didn't really take it she was planning to save him. Maybe I got it wrong... I was too busy cursing her.

I am not surprised that Diego wouldn't have recognized the Doc if he was married to his daughter. A well traveled man was the doc as pointed out, she may have been like a Cristina, struck out on her own, independent streak. The Doc did say that Isa reminded him of his daughter. I did find it interesting he clubbed Julio over the head when he came in, so as not to be seen by either Isa or Julio. He may still have a plot in mind...would mama sell her son to the devil to hide her secret? Please do. Simon says so.

With all this, are we still getting the celebration at the hotel? Boy, that is going to be one interesting pop the cork time.

Only bright spot last night. The look on Ayala's face when Matilde called him Serapio.
 

Daisynjay- I think Belen was just going to pretend to try to save Andres. Waiting until just after it was too late. She and Oleg can't wait to get their grubby hands on the hotel, land, and the oil underneath. Andres being alive, and wise to both of them, is a big obstacle.

Looks like most of us have determined to stay in LaLaLand about Andres' fate until we see his cold, stiff body go into the ground. I'm totally on board with that. Hope springs eternal!
 

Nanette- Yes, Ayala was happy about that. And Mati was happy that he was actually trying to help get rape charges brought against Diego (as near impossible as it is to do).
 

Daisynjay, I like your "la la land" theory. I was thinking too that since the Arenas brothers were left at the jail alone, Manuela could have sprung them all out and they are behind the scenes somehow being the fake firing squad with blanks for bullets. I just can't stand the thought that Andres is dead! I heard that in the original Gran Hotel series the Andres character did not die. But who knows when there is a remake?

As far as I’m concerned Nat is Andres’ widow.

For me, this novela had not taken one wrong step until now---and what a whopper of a step.

There are no anvils large enough for Oleg and Belen for what they did. The only thing that comes even remotely close for Belen would be if she had her face slashed like that courtesan in Dangerous Beauty and was kidnapped and sent to the worst brothel in Mexico where she had to service the most disgusting men every day and night for the rest of her EXTREMELY long life.

What makes Oleg think he can control Belen any better now that Andres is dead than he could when he was alive? She is a loose cannon. I know she wants money, but I think what really drives her is revenge against Teresa and anyone else who treated her like the low-class piece of crap that she is.

And what was that pause before the final shot? I hate being manipulated by writers like that. I get that just by virtue of writing a story we get caught up in, we’re manipulated. But this is crass.

 

Now that I've had my rant, read the comments and been given a little bit of hope Andres is alive, I feel I can manage reading the recap.
 

There's almost always a dramatic pause before someone gets shot. It's just that we were expecting something/someone/anything to stop the firing squad. And nothing did. It was on us for expecting the expected, instead of the unexpected.
 

I still feel manipulated. :(

Just started the recap. Wondered. Could Diego be Doc's son? I'm thinking it's more likely he's his son-in-law, but still. . . .
 

Well given the advances, it sure looks like they are holding a funeral for Andres whose body is presumably inside that coffin.
And if Belen shows up in black as the mourning widow, someone needs to stab her.
A real disappointment with the writers if this is their 'solution' to the Andres problem.
We should know tonight.
 

It looks like they are having a funeral from last night's previews. Then I saw Belen show up running up the hotel steps dressed like a grieving widow.
 

Anon 1:08- What was the Andres problem? He certainly wasn't a problem to the audience. He was a problem to Belen, Oleg, Teresa, and Diego, but not to us! At least, not to me. :( Belen is the problem that needs a solution. She stood in the way of Andres finding happiness with Natalia.
 

I hate that this has caused Nat and Angela to not have a happy ending. I suppose Angela and Lupe getting together would be some sort of consolation. But what about Nat? The sweetest girl, ever.

From my continuing reading of the recap. I like that Ig is a good guy.


 

Well I guess I'm done giving Belen the benefit of the doubt. I could go along with all her scheming, especially when we get to be reminded at every intro credits what happened during the birth of the twins, but if she planned on coming back AFTER the execution, then no. She's done. Fortunately, Sofia (sad, pathetic, and probably mentally ill) is still a bit stabby and could come in useful in dealing with Belen. She'd end up in a manicomio, but isn't she better off there than with her mother? Maybe find one with a real priest this time, and some actual nurses, and she'll be fine. Or at least not as horrible as staying with her mother who tells her she's useless without a man. Ugh. That scene with her and Isa was as hard to watch as Andres.

How much pull does Serapio have with this prison? I like the idea of it all being a trap for Belen and Oleg, but I didn't think he had much power over this group. They seemed to be under the control of the corrupt judge.

I teared up during the praying scene. It was filmed magnificently, just like the scene in the beginning of the novela where Crisina was running as the lights came on one by one.

Maybe Belen didn't know. Flaco and I were wondering.

Also, Felipe was pretty blasé when they took Andres away. I know he’s kind of like that all the time, but I would have thought he would have been more upset. So maybe there is a plan in motion.

Kelly: I think you're right about Ayala being able to plan a doublecross considering. But Manuela and Felipe might have been able to pull it off.

Forgive me for "comment bombing" too. Another thing I noticed was that Felipe talking to Andres right before the execution, telling him, "Do you believe in God? Then you have to just trust him." What was that about? We have never known Felipe to be particularly religious even during his time as a "monk". It's like he knows something else is going on.

Was it even possible to create fake bullets in that era? Ayala would be smart enough to know how if there if it was, but that would be quite a curve ball on the writers' part.

Having said that the idea of executing Andres so quickly sounds like a stretch even for that era. The corrupt judge would be behind that and I'll bet at Teresa's request.
 

Urban Anthropologist, blanks were normally used in that time with death by firing squad. Only one person in the squad had the "live" bullet and the rest had blanks. Those participating in the firing squad would not be told before hand who had the live ammo, but only one would be given the live bullet. This was to help the men in the firing squad believe that they themselves were not responsible for killing the accused for conscience sake. Sometimes wax was used in the blanks.

I think it was more than implied that Judge Barrera was the one who used his influences to speed up the execution, and Ignacio and Ayala even said so. And Barrera was consulting with Oleg the whole way. So if Belen has been conspiring this whole time with Oleg, then she knew perfectly well what Oleg and Barrera were up to.
 

Would blank bullets puncture the prisoner's shirt and leave holes? I too wish Andres was not shot, but there were bullet holes in his shirt (but no visible bleeding).
 

No question. Belen is completely soulless at this point.

I'll be wearing black for the next episode when I catch it tomorrow.
 

It's not only one guy who has the live round. A few of them have live rounds and a few of them have blanks, and no one knows who has which. Anyone else think that Oleg has every intention of getting rid of Belen when he gets his grubs on that land? She puts any kind of signature to anything, she would be toast. He tolerates her as a means to an end. As far as he's concerned, he would raze that hotel to the ground to get at the oil.She thinks she gets to own the hotel and be queen bee and the oil is pumped somewhere else. Sorry, dear, you've been had. But now, she needs an even bigger anvil than being stupid and losing it all...unless it's yes, going to work for Melibea scrubbing the floors in rags for the rest if her sorry life.

For a guy that thought he was plugged into everything Diego is the last to know Julio and Isabela are an item. Everyone knows but him. It's kinda funny.
 

Nobody wants Andres to die, in some sort he has being the shining star of this novela and the story has being more about him. Unfortunately I saw a picture of him in Instagram saying goodbye to his character and I read that Carlos Rivera who plays the character is a singer and is beginning soon a tour. Maybe that is the reason for which they are killing andres. In the gran hotel it was don benjamin who was executed. Let's hope for some miracle to happen though.
 

I also saw a picture of Ilse salas in Instagram saying goodbye to belen.
 

Filming of the tn has come to an end and there is only one week left, so all the actors are saying goodbye to their characters. Let's try to avoid saying what happened in the Spanish Gran Hotel (and social media), because we still don't know how this one will wrap up and might be giving spoilers.
 

Tofie- It's hilarious how everyone else knows (well, except Teresa and Sofia) that Isa and Julio are an item, except Diego. Especially given how hard he has been trying practically this whole tn to find out who the mystery man is.
 

I've set the table Nanette for the Andres is Alive group. Hopefully we will be toasting and cheering his future soon. Happy place is open to all...

Nanette- I think Maria just thought it was best to leave things as they were. I'm just glad Jacinto didn't make a big drama about it. Get the kid off to Arizona, y ya!
 

Whew Vivi, sparkling recap of a disturbing episode. Your pacing was terrific and the resumen really moved along beautifully.

Like several others, I loved this gem:

"asking forgiveness for all the sins he never committed"

and was relieved to know that I was not the only one moved to tears by the lovely, stately praying of the Rosary. The full camera shot of everyone on their knees was stunning.

Another moment that knocked me out was Andres' request to look at his mother one last time. He smiled. She tried to but couldn't. But kept trying. Finally, agonizingly, she managed the slightest of smiles. And then he told the guard he could put on the blindfold and proceed.

Oh hell, might as well admit it, I also teared up at Jacinto coming 'round, realizing the harm he had done, making amends and embracing Lupe's love. I'm a sucker for reconciliation scenes, so shoot me. But with blanks please.

Thank you Ms. Vivi. Just terrific. Now hoping that somehow, some way, our dear Andres lives.
 

Oh and forgot to mention, the title is terrific too. Informative and poetic.
 

Judy- The last scene with Andres and Angela was so beautiful and sad, and you describe it so vividly. And yes, I was moved for Lupe's sake that Jacinto finally came around. Especially when Jacinto clung to Lupe and held his hand in bed, as his lip trembled like a little boy, after he realized all that this man had sacrificed to raise a child that wasn't even his.
 

Vivi...that Andres/Angela scene was just another reminder of how AWESOME the acting has been in this. The confrontation between Teresa and Angela, also a blockbuster. Ditto for Teresa and Diego.

It's not just Diana Bracho and Daniela Romo...but those two have been amaaaazing in every single scene of every episode.
 

Come on amigos, you're making me tear up now.
 

If Andres does resurrect as part of a ploy/feint, the script writers better pull off a reasonably believable one!! Please Televisa, no cheesy back-to-life Bobby Ewing/Dallas dream-scenes--it would really stink-up the superior quality of this rare gem of a production.
 

I'm getting weepy not only over all the stuff we saw last night, but over the fact of there being only seven hours left. And I am already counting the number of Yago episodes left.

Hotel and Yago are going to ruin me for ordinary TNs forever. FOREVER.

I saw the ads for "Ana x 3" and all I felt was sadness. This is supposed to be one of their more tantalizing offerings, right? Well, if those ads are the best they can do to intrigue me about seeing Angelique Boyer play triplets, then either I have burned out on cheesiness or they've forgotten how to do ads.
 

Julie- I know what you mean. It's an embarrassment of riches at the moment with Hotel, Yago, and Esclava Blanca on Telemundo (which I haven't had a chance to catch up on yet). They are a in a different category of telenovela than the average. I've schedule a post on 3xAna for tomorrow to see if there is interest and if any folks want to jump on to recap. I won't be recapping that one, but if anyone on the current 10 pm team or others want to recap, please speak up.
 

I have been watching Hotel since the beginning and only started watching by accident because I am not a regular novela fan. My aunt and uncle regularly watch novelas and I just happened to be visiting them when Hotel began. I couldn't believe how much I started to enjoy it! They also watched Passion Y Poder, but I just couldn't get into that one. I'm trying to watch Yago, but I just don't feel the same interest as I do for Hotel. Maybe we need another good historical period drama/murder mystery to peak my interest.
 

Cynthia- It's not a murder mystery, but La Esclava Blanca on Telemundo is a historical period drama.
 

La esclava blanca looks interesting but the time just didn't work out, same time as Yago. I usually prefer Telemndo TNs, you can watch on their site, Uni now wants to charge you, which I find an insult.
 

Variopinta- I have the problem of the time conflict too, and Yago is winning at the moment. But how great to have so many great tns to choose from!

As for the letter, Diego did not burn it. He started to, but put it out. He never tried to burn it again.

So Doc Vic doesn't know Diego, but knows Diego's mother. That's another odd clue.

I was devastated when the execution actually materialized. I thought that somehow Andres would be rescued by the bandits and the sis. I too think that Andres could have survived. 3 times Ana is supposed to be a remake of Lazos de amor,(love bonds) Novela starred in the year 1995 by Mexican singer and actress Lucero. It surely will be a big challenge for Angelique to do 3 so different characters, I have already read in youtube negative comments saying that she is not going to overpass Luceros great acting.
 

Is anyone watching El Hotel on HULU? It seems like part of the episode may be cut and in the following scene you just have to assume that certain things happened.
 

Marla- I gave some links in comments last week for some clips from Lazos de Amor. Lucero did a great job. Angelique will have a BIG task ahead of her. I commend her for trying. It must be exhausting to play three major roles in the same series. I wish her well. However, the bits they have shown in the promos don't show a lot of promise. It may surprise us. I hope so.

Anon 7:01- I don't watch on Hulu, but in general this series does not dwell on transition scenes. That's partly how they've kept it so short, and why the action moves at such a whiplash speed. I sometimes would have liked those transition scenes, however. Even if it slowed down the action.
 

I don't think it's just Hulu that show some scenes cut.

I would have to think that Manuela is still playing a part in all of this. I was shocked that there wasn't a stay of execution either. I was totally expecting it. But in good TNs, things don't always have happy outcomes, or neat endings, so maybe this is one of them.
 

I, for one, am planning to scream so loud when we find out Andres is alive (pleeease!) that I'll scare the cats.
 

VivI - Looks like Angelique will shine more as the evil Ana Leticia, she is better playing villanas than heroines and it seems that her character is gonna be worst than Maria Paula (Luceros villana in lazos DE amor). Basically the best thing of Lazos DE amor was bipolar Maria Paula. You could love and hate her at the same time, in moments have pity for her and in others fear her. I love when she had moments of guilt and desperation, feelings of loneliness.
 

Vivi in DC, GOOD RECAP, hard episode. I been watching this on and off but that episode last night, that guy got executed for a crime he didn't commit. That was horrible. Isy's mom is a peice of work. Her husband had to punish her
By rapeing her? Really? why hasn't someone killed this horrible person yet? (Mother). Some people are being murdered and shes still walking around making everybody's life a living hell. The last episode is going to be very interesting. Maybe all the questions will be answered. That's going to be interesting to hear too.
 

oh I really hope Andres is alive because I hate to think that he died for nothing. Cuz that heffa is not dead. He didn't kill her sefish but.
