Telemundo

Thanks very much, LXV, for the surprising schedule change for this Friday. I'm not sure what prompted this, but at least the zap2it listing agrees for this Friday and shows the following Friday (June 3) as following the normal offerings.

Esclava and Señor

I just want to repeat the very useful message that deb posted earlier today. It didn't make it onto this new Telemundo page, and since there are a number of people watching La Esclava Blanca and perhaps some watching El Señor de los Cielos as well, please note that there will be no episode of Esclava today (Monday, May 23)! Instead, there will be two hours of El Señor de los Cielos.

EVA LA TRAILERA – LUNES – Parte 1 de 2

At the scene of thousands of telenovela dramatic moments; i.e., the ubiquitous hospital waiting room, Eva keeps asking JJ why there is a notary here. JJ doesn’t have the guts to tell her what’s going on.

Inside Betty’s room Marisol tells Pablo that Eva is outside and needs an explanation. Betty has one of her stock berrinches when she hears this. She refuses to let him leave the room.

Adriana and Camila make up. They regret having been deceived by the same jerk. Cami says she’s going to get even, Furias style. Adriana advises her to stay away from him; he’s the master manipulator. Later Cami takes his call, intent on her plan.

The thugs who beat Evencio and Enrique and are apparently the two that do the Mon-Sol drug runs to Mexico confront Andy at Mon-Sol. They aren’t happy with the money Marlene is doling out to them. They hint they want to be partners. Just then the cops roll up and arrest them for having beaten up Enrique and Evencio.

The notary has left the door ajar and Eva peeks through and sees Pablo marrying Betty. Pablo turns and sees her in the doorway and runs after her. Betty has another hissy fit.

Eva lets Pablo explain why he married Betty. She says she understands. But she goes on to say she never wants to see him again. Dr. Ana overhears. Eva says something about not wanting to be the person waiting for Betty to die. She tells Pablo that, with this marriage, he’s buried their love forever.

Marisol tells Betty that of course she forced Pablo into marrying her, giving him only the choice of letting his child and Betty herself die.

Marlene has called her lap dog lawyer, Silva, to get the thugs out. He says he’s not a criminal lawyer. Elsa comes in trying to say something about someone going on maternity leave. She gets insulted by La Alacrana. Elsa goes out and tells Gusano she’s fed up. Overhearing that someone is going on maternity leave, Marta suggests she has a cousin who would be perfect.

Rey and Laila have a chilly post-coital. He doesn’t even want to kiss her, although he apparently did an excellent job of having sex with her. I think his plan may be to turn the tables on her. She’s always the one the men in her life pursue. And, of course, he'll be looking for the forged Power of Attorney.

Armando comes into Marlene’s office, furious to find AA there. He then finds out that the thugs have been arrested. He tells Marlene she’s on her own with this one.

Of course Betty doesn’t die after the Caesarian, although they did try to get our hopes up with at least one cardiac arrest in the OR. Hmm. I noticed that they had her wearing false eyelashes into the operating room.

EVA LA TRAILERA – LUNES – Parte 2 de 2

Eva tells Tia Bertha what happened with Pablo. She tells her that she’s broken, as if a piece of her soul has been torn away.

JJ tells Marisol that Betty’s forcing Pablo to marry her was the most disgusting piece of manipulation he’s ever seen. Marisol gets mad at him for that, even though she must know it’s the truth.

Dr. Ana shows Pablo his child, Cecilia, in the incubator. I notice they don’t show her. I’ve seen 3-month old babies in incubators before, but I guess they’re going for a bit more realism.

Rebeca is being released into witness protection in Wisconsin. She doesn’t like this idea. While waiting for a train with the two cops who will accompany her, she says she has to go to the bathroom. She overpowers the female guard in the Ladies and takes her gun. Then she steals clothes and a credit card at gunpoint from a woman who conveniently comes into the Ladies wearing enormous sunglasses. Rebeca waltzes out of there smirking. Viewerville begins to dread her inevitable attempt on Victoria.

There’s a meeting in the office at Panchopan. Luis announces that receipts are up 20%. He goes on to say that things are on the right path. Robert pipes up with an actually good idea. They should build an ad campaign around Pancho, a man of the people who made sausages for the people. Soraya loves the idea, or at least pretends to. Robert is alone with her for a moment and puts a tiny move on her, holding her hand. [Really attracted to her? Or attracted to the money she inherited?] Soraya gets a call and has to leave.

Betty comes out of the anesthesia and, unreasonable as always, isn’t happy she can’t hold the baby. Pablo explains about the undeveloped lungs, etc. Betty smiles happily when he says the baby will be better soon. Still delusional, she says they'll be a happy family. Ay!

Thanks for the note about Esclava, Juanita! I don't have Telemundo so I have to watch online the next day, and I would have been checking the website all day Tuesday waiting for the new episode to be available.

Eva

what a wonderful recap novelera!

for a very depressing show, yep, we got to watch Pablo twist and turn as Betty kept sinking the hook in deeper, his whole world is going black.

but what really touched me, is when Eva said to Berta, she can't hate Pablo, she would have done the same thing.

hmm, if I got this right on the power-of-attorney, a few shows back they were speculating that the one turning everything over to Leyla is probably false, and the company wouldn't give them access to it, but they figure Sebastian would have done a real power-of-attorney giving everything to his mother but he wouldn't have had time to get it to her before he died, not that Rey was looking.

ha! putting Rebeca on a train to Wisconsin, wasn't there a bus going that way, she could have got off at the next stop, I suspected something was up when she was being released in chains.

Cielos (chisme)

hmm, I saw a promo for "Senora Acero 3" tonight, pronto.

Cielos was epi 39 on friday,

season 1- 74 episodes
season 2- 84
season 3- 104

so any way, before they finished filming Cielos 4, Rafael Amaya had some sort of breakdown, hospital, did he finish filming, or did they go with the face surgery and a new actor?

I'm not watching but if gran final pops up I might.

Eva

Thanks very much, novelera, for another excellent recap. Yet another frustrating encounter between Eva and Pablo. I kept waiting for him to explain to her exactly what options Betty had given him, namely marry her or she will not permit the Caesarean and both she and the baby will die. I don't recall that he ever spelled out the "or else" part. Did he? For me, the "or else" part made his agreeing to marry Betty the only thing he could morally have done. Eva admitted to Bertha that she would have made the same decision, which suggests that she is aware of the "or else" part. But then why take such a hard line with Pablo? Is it mostly because she doesn't want to see herself as waiting around vulture-like for Betty to die? I can understand that. But if Betty dies soon (¡Ojala!)....

I wasn't sure what to make of Soraya's enthusiastic response to Robert's suggestion. No one else seemed all that enthusiastic, including Luis. Is Soraya's response part of her scheme? I'm assuming it is, though I don't at all see where it's going.

And what's up with Marta's saying that she has a cousin who could take over for the woman on maternity leave? I don't see where this is going, either, though I did enjoy Marta's barb about nepotism to Elsa.

Eva. Another excellent recap, novelera! This show is starting to remind me of that insurance commercial with the government agent fighting terrorists on a roof top when he gets a call from his mother, who pays no attention when he says "Can I call you back, Mom?" Then the voice over says something like "Mothers always call at the most inconvenient times, because that's what they do." Well, Eva shows up at the most inconvenient times because she's a telenovela heroine, and that's what they do. I must say that she took Pablo's wedding much better than I would have thought. She's cutting all ties with him mainly because he's now married to someone else, for whatever reason. I think Betty's not going to die, and the best we can hope for is that she comes to her senses about Pablo, and the marriage is annulled, since for obvious reasons it couldn't be consummated. And yay! They arrested the thugs who beat up Evencio and Enrique! Were they also the ones who killed Pancho? How long before Marlene is done in by her own wickedness? (My guess would be about 40 episodes).

Eva

Great comments, SpanProf.

I hope you're wrong about Betty. As far as I'm concerned, she's a mean, totally self-centered perra who has no regrets about having sent Eva to prison nor about conning Pablo into marrying her. I keep hoping that one of her berrinches will prove fatal to her weakened system. But I suppose the berrinche can't be in response to anything Eva, Pablo, or Marisol says or does, since any of them would then be paralyzed with guilt. Perhaps the sweet young doctor will say something that sets Betty off.

In answer to your question, yes, Andy's two thugs not only beat up Evencio and Enrique but also were the guys who drove the "merchandise" across the border and who deliberately pushed Pancho's car off the road. If they decide to turn state's evidence in return for lighter sentences, the Palacios will be in deep doo-doo.

Eva

Juanita, I'm with you. Betty needs a stake in her heart, and soon. She IS a vampire, sucking the blood out of our poor victim, Pablo. If I were writing the novela, I'd have had him walk out of the room when she made her demand that he marry her to save the baby's life. She doesn't want to die and would surely have gone ahead with the Caesarean. But Pablo presents once again as a schmuck.

Eva

I hope to have a recap up either later tonight or (more likely) tomorrow morning.

EVA LA TRAILERA - MARTES - Parte 1 de 3

As the episode opens, Betty is dreaming that as she is sleeping in the hospital with her baby in her arms, a nurse comes by and takes the baby away. Betty yells at the woman, "Don't take her. She's mine" (No se la lleve. Es mia), but the woman doesn't listen. Then Betty wakes up from her dream.

Eva and Soraya come to see the baby. Eva explains that the baby is Pablo's daughter, and is very special for Eva. Suddenly Betty appears and asks "What are you doing here, desgraciada?" She becomes even more agitated and tells Eva "I swear I'm going to kill you." Eva tells Soraya she'd like to talk to Betty alone. Soraya goes to the cafeteria to wait. Betty asks Eva, "Are you hoping for the death of my daughter?" Eva of course denies this, telling her "Nothing would make me happier than to see your baby have a happy life." Betty is suddenly gripped with pain. She doesn't want Eva to touch her, but Eva prevails, helping her back to her hospital room. She thanks Eva and then asks "Do you hate me?" Eva tells her that she did at the trial, but now she no longer hates her, and she doesn't hold a grudge. Betty insists that she doesn't believe Eva [of course not, since Betty continues to hate Eva and to hold a grudge]. Eva says that she and Pablo are no longer together, and that now it's Betty's chance to be happy and to try to make Pablo happy.

Andy is sitting in his car near the house where Camila and the others are living. It's not clear whether he's simply waiting for her or spying on her. Suddenly another car drives up: Rebecca. She's clearly out for vengeance. "A promise made is a debt unpaid" (Lo prometido es deude), she says. She gets out of the car, goes up to the house, and looks in a window. "All these perras are living here together, and all are within reach," she thinks to herself. Andy wonders who this woman is. [But didn't he hire her to do some nasty stuff to Eva in prison? I guess he never met her in person.]

Rey comes to Pablo's house and announces that he has gone to bed with Leila. Martin asks whether they should applaud. He's concerned that without the needed evidence, Federica's case is stagnating (se estanque).Pablo asks whether Rey has anything relevant to report. Rey admits that he doesn't, but he's working on it.

Back at the hospital, the young pretty doctor asks Pablo whether she can ask him an indiscreet question: "Who is the woman who appeared at your wedding and was very upset?" Pablo replies, "That's Eva, Eva Soler, the woman I love." He goes on to tell the doctor his history with Betty and with Eva. The doctor says, "It's apparent even from a distance (se nota a leguas) that Betty is very much in love with you." Pablo tells her that the best word to describe Betty's feelings is "obsessed," and that "I was never able to love her the way she wanted."

Fabi announces to Eva and Adriana that she is not going to marry Diego. Pablo didn't marry Eva, Pablo is malo, and so she is not going to marry Diego. Eva tells Fabi that she's too young to be thinking about marriage, but she should know that Pablo is not malo, he is a good person, and Diego will very likely grow up to be a good person. Fabi then goes to bed. Adri recognizes how painful all this is for Eva, but Eva again models Survivor Mode: Yes, I'm sad about Pablo, but tomorrow is another day, and I'll be better.

EVA LA TRAILERA - MARTES - Parte 2 de 3

Federica dreams about a conversation she had with her son Sebastian shortly before his death. He admits to Federica that she was right, that Leila is a cualquiera and has been unfaithful to him. He tells his mother that he is writing a document returning everything to her--property, money, stocks, absolutely everything. Federica wakes up calling Sebastian's name. Bertha comes to see why she's calling, and she tells Bertha, "I remember!"

Later, Federica meets with Rey and Martin. She recalls that her jewelry was in the bank vault, and that the key is in Leila's house. More questioning leads her to recall that the most likely place that her son would have put documents that he wanted to keep from Leila would have been in the old writing desk in his office. It had lots of hidden compartments. Rey recalled playing with it as a child. But the office, too, is in Leila's house, so how could they get access without her seeing them? Martin smiles and tells her that Rey can assure her that there are ways to do this.

Marta calls Eva to tell her that there's a job opening at Mon-Sol to replace the woman who is out on maternity leave. Virginia pleads with Eva to let her be the replacement. She wants to be a spy. Eva tells her it's too dangerous, Armando might recognize her. Virginia claims that Armando might have seen her in passing once or twice and wouldn't remember her. Eva reluctantly agrees to let Virginia be the replacement.

The next day, Virginia appears in a long black wig, sunglasses, and a sexy manner: she's ready to go to work. At Mon-Sol, Marta warns her that the people are very dangerous, and then she brings her to meet Armando. Needless to say, he's delighted with Marta's attractive cousin "Blanca Blanco," and he agrees to give her the job. He mentions, however, that she looks somewhat familiar, and have they met before? "Blanca" assures him that they have not; she tells him that remembers good-looking men, and so she'd definitely remember if they had met. All is well, and they leave Armando's office. They encounter Elsa in the hallway, and Marta introduces her cousin, the new hire. Elsa announces that she is in charge of hiring, and she has not approved this hire. Marta calmly tells her that in this case, Armando has taken charge and has hired her. If Elsa has a problem with this, she can discuss it with Armando.

Martin talks to Rey about their project, codename "Ninfomaníaca." Rey will distract Leila while Martin and JJ try to find the document. Martin isn't happy with the plan. Somewhat later, Pablo returns home. They remind him about the project, and he and JJ go off, leaving Martin to stay with Diego.

Marlene and Andy are waiting outside the jail. Marlene is not happy with Andy's attitude. Just then, the two thugs appear, congratulating themselves. They've been released from jail because there wasn't adequate proof. Andy greets them and tells then they can thank his sister. She was the one in charge of getting them out. Marlene informs them that getting them released was expensive, and she's deducting the cost from what they were to be paid. They're not pleased. They tell her they'll act respectful and even use "usted," but they want their full pay.

EVA LA TRAILERA - MARTES - Parte 3 de 3

Elsa goes to see Marlene to complain about Marta's cousin being hired by Armando. She wants Marlene to do something about this "lack of respect." Marlene tells her, "Stop bothering me, I have much more important things to deal with. If she doesn't work out, you can fire her, and that's that."

At the hospital, Betty and Pablo are in the room with the incubator. Betty is happy. "She's our daughter. We're a family at last." She hugs Pablo, who looks very much like a deer in the headlights.

Elsewhere in the hospital, the two doctors in charge of Betty's case are talking. The pretty doctor is very pleased with the progress that the baby is making. The other doctor is not nearly so optimistic about Betty's health. Her kidneys are damaged. Dialysis will start the next day, but she doesn't think it will do much good. "She won't survive?" asks the young doctor. "I don't have much hope," is the reply.

Andy is again sitting in his car outside the house where Camila lives. And once again, Rebecca drives up. She gets out of the car, reaches for her pistol (dropping what look like her car keys in the process), stands in back of the car, and aims the pistol toward the house. Thus ends the episode.

Eva. Excellent and very complete recap, Juanita! I too wondered about Andy not knowing Rebeca, but your explanation seems the most logical. Btw, the actress playing Rebeca seems to be having a great time being evil! I loved the code name Ninfomaníaca for the guerrilla op against Leyla's! Dra. Ana María is very sweet, and might actually be a good match for Pablo. It looks as if we might lose Betty, Juanita and novelera, and about time. So far she has sort of been the perra that would not die. The birthday party for Bertha was incredibly sweet and cozy, and what a family feeling of all those women (+ Evencio + Enrique + at least 1 other male at the party) being together and happy. I hope Andy thwarts Rebeca, since Camila could be in danger from her gun too.

Eva

Thanks very much, SpanProf, for your response. I too loved the guerrilla op codename. As for Betty, I keep being reminded of the dicho Mala hierba nunca muere. But I'm hoping that the 293rd time is the charm.

For once I was glad that Andy was present, though whether he'll actually manage to thwart Rebecca remains to be seen. I'm also wondering how her dropped car keys will figure in the plot.

Eva

Juanita, thanks so much! Loved every word. Wish I had time to comment, but work is interfering with my desire to join you in discussing Eva. Also loved Ninfo - etc. So, could Andy and Rebeca shoot each other and take both of them out of the picture?

Eva. Fat chance, novelera! O, mejor dicho, ¡qué esperanza!

Esclava

Nicholas arrives at the church late at night, warns the Padre to not say a word about the Quinteros, (I think he was worried about what Morales told him in confession) and I think the Padre got the point, he is a dead man if he talks.

the Doctor is disgusted with Jaime's drinking, but Jaime doesn't want to marry Isabel, she's a freak, you don't need to like her, the doctor says, just marry her.

Nicholas having his evening drink, throws it against the wall, upset with his new deal with the doctor.

Miguel is trying to read Felipe's law books, falls asleep, Cata is proud of him.

Siervo sees Milagro adding something to Nicholas food, it won't be a good thing to poison him, oh no, just something to keep him off Victoria, Siervo smiles as she takes the food to him, but wait, Nicholas is in a bad mood and isn't eating, he tells Isabel to wear a nice dress as Jaime is coming to see her, wow, Isabel is not liking this, Victoria asks for patience, and Victoria finds out Morales is gone.

Miguel sneaks out and reveals himself to a friend, Marco, and asks for help.

Jaime gets his subpoena but it doesn't reveal who is suing him, they go to the General, who explains, all their questions will be answered at the hearing, and if all is in order, the judge will set the date for the trial.

Nicholas makes Julian the new foreman.

Reme and Trinidad, are they flirting?

Nicholas brings flowers to his mother, trouble in paradise she asks, he reveals his problem, maybe it's the Marquise she says, a person's taste is temporary, he drops by Eugenia's for a quickie, (while Bunme watches) and no problem as he wakes the next morning in her bed, where Eugenia is given the latest gossip on Jaime's hearing, what?, Nicholas says, saying Jaime is courting Isabel, shocking Eugenia who thinks Jaime is the worst possible choice.

Victoria and Milagros go to Trinidad to find out what's up with Morales, they want see him, it will all be a secret, and he takes them to the manicomio, Victoria goes in alone, bribes that other Padre with her jewelry, and sees Morales, he is in bad shape, babbling, Victoria reveals herself as the daughter of the Quinteros, but Morales insists she is dead, and as Victoria pushes to know what happened that night, and who he was taking her to from the Palenque, he decides she is a ghost haunting him, and freaks, which bring the attendants.

Victoria later tells Milagros they ruined their only chance of getting the truth.

the Doctor and Jaime come to hire Felipe, but his client filed the suit.

at the hearing, Felipe introduces Miguel, the doctor, who is defending Jaime, thinks this should all be dismissed, and Jaime is outraged accusing Miguel for cutting off his hand.

but Felipe does the legal thing, using the free birth law, where within two months after a slave turns 18, they are brought before the mayor and set free, instead Rosa and the other were hunted and killed by Jaime. (I'm not getting all the legal stuff, but it sounds on the up and up, not like the usual novela trial)

although the judge listens to the argument, he does not accept the suit, where is the proof, where upon Felipe introduces Angela and the other lady as witnesses, but this doesn't go well either as slaves "scratch each others back".

but wait, one more witness, Gabriel, he heard Jaime boasting about the hunts, does this swing the case?

Nicholas leaves with Eugenia, but he later departs, as the inner circle guys have a few questions about the now alive Miguel, Nicholas looks like he hasn't slept for a week, but in pure form he explains things, Miguel deceived them all, as Nicholas sent Morales to find and kill him and they all thought the body was his, and because the Doctor, (who has his hands in Nicholas' pockets), backs him, the others buy it, except for Jaime who doesn't want to be in the middle of this circus, but Nicholas warns him, it was all done in secret, no one saw us, there is no proof, so don't turn this into a battle amongst us.

Esclava/Eva

hmm, since last night the recaptcha won't recognize my browser (FireFox) and won't give me the challenge so I can no longer post here from my home computer (I'm using one at the library now for this), so until something changes or I can find a work around I won't be able to do recaps.

and thanks so much Juanita for the recap on Eva!

Esclava/Eva

deb, I'm now trying to access this page via Firefox 45.0.2. If you see this message, it means I got through.

Esclava/Eva

deb, what version of Firefox are you using? It would be VERY strange for the captcha not to work with such a widely used browser.

Esclava: deb thanks and don't worry about it. We are grateful for what you were able to do. I don't know how the trial will go and I am worried. If slaves back each other what about the blancos? Like they don't? I am praying poor Isabel escape that degenerate Jaime. Niolas might think his peter only work for Eugenia not not Vicky
Romy

Esclava/Eva

deb, I've just updated my Firefox to version 46.0.1, and there seems to be no problem with this one, either. So it doesn't look as if the captcha is rejecting Firefox outright. It may have started to reject old versions, I don't know.

To find out what version of Firefox you have, click on Help at the top and choose the bottom option, About Firefox. You'll then see a version number. Right under that will be a Check For Updates button you can press.

Eva

I'll try and do the recap tonight, and hopefully post it tonight, if not later tomorrow.

Juanita, thanks for trying to help, I have been using Firefox 46.0.1 for some time now and it was working fine till last night when the recaptcha started giving me an error message "Please upgrade to a supported browser to get a reCAPTCHA challenge.", but it's helpful to know that it works for you.

anyway, I began using Firefox to make posts, because the browser I do everything on (Opera, the old version which is never updated anymore) couldn't do the recaptchas when they went to pictures, but I just tried it and it worked, what?

Eva

deb, I'm very happy to hear that you've found a solution to the bizarre captcha problem. I was going to suggest that you could send the recap to me and I could post it for you, but it sounds as if that won't be necessary. If you find that you're again unable to post, you can reach me at cq9 AT yahoo DOT com . That's not an address I use much, so it's one I'm willing to post publicly. If spammers get hold of it, it's no great loss.

Eva la trailera... epi 83, Wednesday,
part 1

Bertha's birthday party is winding down, and Bertha cleans up as Virginia protests, let me help then, as they take out the trash, Rebeca zero's in on Virginia who drops a bag and stoops down, Berta takes the bullet through the heart and collapses, Rebeca runs for it, but no keys, and highjacks Andy and his car.

Rey keeps his date with Leyla, who's upstairs waiting, as he wants to use the bathroom, the maid Hubencia ?? tells him it's in the same place when he used to come over, but he ducks into the study, what, no desk, Pablo and JJ wait in the car, JJ spots Leyla on the move with his infrared camera and they alert Rey through his earphone who gets out to meet her in the hallway, and carries her to bed.

Martin and Diego watch a soccer match, Diego knows all the 17 basic rules amazing Martin yet again, but he gets a call, Federica spills on Bertha.

it's intermission for the lovers, Leyla says the more they make love the more she wants to, Rey asks about his cousin, she doesn't want to talk of the past, he gets a call he must take, he has to leave, she's disappointed, and on the way out Rey asks Hubencia about the desk, it's in the attic, Leyla doesn't like antiques, (and when he left did she call him a traitor)

Andy gets the gun away from Rebecca, drops her at a hotel, he wants to know about the hit, it's payback she says, he guesses she was in jail with Eva, she wants her gun back, he gives it to her without the clip, but then that too. (doesn't this make him an accessory)

it's a house full of sad, with Fajardo taking notes, Pablo shows up to comfort Eva, she gets him to go away, and Rey swoops in, and then Pablo again who says he knows it's a bad time for it but he has some questions, later with that as Eva leaves.

Adri keeps Fabi upstairs, who knows something is up, until she calms down and falls asleep.

Fajardo finds the dropped keys and checks out the car, stolen.

Armando has a drink, Marlene wants to talk, Armando says we only fight, he gets a call, I think it's Adri telling him about Bertha, he asks how Eva is doing, and later tells Marlene, how did that happened, she asks, Armando says he was going to ask her, no, no, it wasn't me or my brother, and Armando hopes the police don't come knocking.

Marlene has a sit down with Blanca Blanco, and quizzes her, wants to know 2 good reasons why she should hire her, well, I have no criminal record and I'm deaf, dumb, and blind, I look prettier with my mouth shut.

Eva la trailera... epi 83, Wednesday,
part 2

2 days later

it's the day of the funeral. Soraya is getting ready as Luis cruises through, no he doesn't want to go, but Soraya changes his mind.

at the office, Martin swings by to get Pablo but he doesn't want to go, and later bingo, JJ zeroes in on the red truck in the traffic tapes Fajardo got them,

at the funeral Eva doesn't want to talk about what happened, but what a loving and caring person Bertha was, now with her brother Pepe, Eva hopes they throw her a party because that's what she deserves, (did the priest get to say anything)

Armando is there, talks to Adri, (I guess Fabi was at school, I don't think they told her) Adri says she would have gone nuts here.

Pablo and JJ arrive, ask to see Soraya alone, show her the pictures of the truck, she recognizes it, and remembers how Pancho was killed, Pablo promises her the crime will not go unpunished, Soraya returns to the funeral, but gets real nice to the Monteverde's, do you get hungry at funerals, she asks, (of course not, but Robert butters her up) and she takes them out to eat, her treat, JJ's wtf, Pablo mentions the furias.

Eva brings the urn with the ashes to her garage office, alone she ponders what happened, Berta had no enemies, this was done to get at me, and if she could ask Berta if she wanted revenge, Berta would say no, but I do, I want justice, I'll be like you, quiet, demure, pretty, feminine, and they will never see me coming.

at the hospital Betty is not happy Pablo is tossing her aside like a piece of furniture (as she puts it) to go to work, geez, this is only temporary Pablo says, but Betty knows the damage to her kidneys is irreversible, Pablo double checks with the nurse, yep, once you're on dialysis there is no going back, unless, of course there is a donor. (oh why did she bring this up)

Luis comes to see Adri at the house, the ladies leave them alone, Luis awkwardly tells her she can count on him, he'll be there for her, he loves her, and they are so ready for the kiss that follows.

Eva, Evencio, and Enrique, in a new plan are planting seeds with drivers or clients or both, about Mon-Sol going bankrupt, about hauling suspicious loads, their new drivers, they are going down.

Gusano announces they have lost a fourth client, and Marlene is totally bonkers as to how that could be, Eva is keeping one step ahead of her, there must be a snitch...

Eva

Terrific recap, deb! It's complete, and yet wonderfully concise. I love the way you pack so much into a few perfectly-chosen words.

I'm not sure what to make of Juvencia (Leila's housekeeper?). When Rey picks up Leila and carries her up to bed, Juvencia has a look that seemed like either disgust or dismay. And then, yes, when Rey left, Juvencia called him a traitor (Hasta nunca, traidor). But is she calling him a traitor because she thinks he's trying to do in Leila or because he's being a traitor to his cousin Sebastian? I think/hope it's the latter, and that she'll turn out to be a useful ally.

I enjoyed Virgina's reply to Marlene's question about why she should be hired, but I think I liked your condensed version even better.

Andy certainly handled Rebecca skillfully. I hate to think of them working together, but I suspect that's gonna happen.

I'm kicking myself for not even suspecting that all that love and schmaltz with Bertha in the previous episode meant that she's doomed.

I groaned out loud when the possibility of saving Betty via a kidney donation was mentioned. No No NO!!! Please, let's be done with her already!! Perhaps the next time Rebecca misses, she'll hit Betty by mistake? (Not likely, but one can always hope.)

Esclava Blanca

Thanks for the recap deb! I just returned from visiting my sister so I could help with recaps if you'd like.

Esclava

J- thanks!, Wednesdays are always open because I do Eva, and of course so is every other day. I wasn't planning on recapping the whole show, just a little to get everyone started, so it's a day-to-day thing.

Eva. Excellent recap, deb! Oh no! The writers have now killed off the 2 nicest people in this novela--first Pancho and now Bertha. As Evencio said, who would kill a saint? Adri knows about Bertha's death, but goes to school instead of the funeral because it would be too upsetting for her. And yes indeed, Juanita! The possibility of a donated kidney! Of course! Betty really is the perra who won't die!. At least if she dies following a transplant, Pablo, Marisol, nice dra. Ana María, et al will at least know that everything possible has been done. Of course if this were a real person, even a not especially nice person, you realize that I and the rest of you would no doubt be rooting for the transplant to be a success!

Eva. I meant Fabi knows about Berha's death.

Eva

Thanks, Deb. You knocked the recap out of the park! I love all your parenthetical expressions: (Doesn’t this make him an accomplice?) To quote Sarah Palin: “You betcha!” Of course he’s already an accomplice in three other murders, so in real life maybe he’d get life since he didn’t kill anyone with his own hands (or did he? memory fuzzy today). He arranged Sofía, Carmen and Pancho.

I’m certain Juvencia meant Rey is a traitor for betraying Sebastián because she’s one of those old family retainer types who knew the cousins when they were young.

Now I ask you: Would anyone accept a job after being grilled, ahem, interviewed by Marlene Palacios? If she were really that smart, she’d know that the only reason anyone would work for her would be to spy for Eva Soler!

I was happy to see Luis and Adriana apparently reunited. Their relationship has been a roller coaster, from when Adri was completely bratty and dumping him for AA. And then Luis outright saying he couldn’t accept AA’s baby, thus really hurting Adriana.

We keep getting scene after scene of Marlene’s monologues about having a plan to sink Eva. But they’re not working. And the writers keep hinting she has something else up her copious sleeve. I'm sort of over Marlene, and they haven't even shown any últimos capítulos or semanas.

Eva. Novelera: I think it's Marlene's ego that is leading her to hire Virginia, ahem, Blanca. Virgi is kissing up to Marlene in exactly the right way and even hinting that she's perfectly willing to be a henchperson. :)

La Esclava Blanca - Wednesday, May 25 - Capítulo 26, part 1

Nicolas, Arturo, and two other slaveowners talk about Jaime and how he needs to keep quiet about what they've done and stop acting out so much. Arturo assures them he will, and the short guy we rarely see whose name I forgot mentions that a slave winning a case against a white person has never happened and never will. Nicolas says he is still looking for a lawyer to help Jaime.

Trinidad is helping Remedios and says he is happy that she wants to get out of the bed. He goes to get someone else to help get her up. Remedios smiles. These two are so cute.

Milagros is bathing Victoria who says she needs to go to Santa Marta to talk to Padre Octavio and reveal who she really is because she's run out of options (me quedó sin opciones). He is the only one who can testify on her behalf that she is the heir of El Eden. Milagros warns her that if something goes wrong, she could be in big trouble. Milagros then asks about her venganza against Nicolas, to which Victoria responds that it's turning into her own prison since she already lost Miguel and she's afraid of losing herself in the end.

Trinidad and two other slaves are carrying Remedios on a chair on the beach. She feels like she's been locked up and this is the first time she feels free. Trinidad mentions that she described what it's like to be a slave. Remedios calls herself stupid for complaining about her condition; Trinidad says we have all suffered. He asks if she wants to touch the water. He picks her up out of the chair and carries her to the water. Reme is smiling A LOT, but Trinidad says they need to go back since it's getting late...

Nicolas arrives home just as Milagros and Victoria were trying to leave to go see the Padre. He says he was riding his horse through the fields all night; she says she was going to Santa Marta to go to church and to see his mother since she hadn't seen her in a while. Nicolas says no need, he saw her yesterday. When Victoria says she didn't know that, he gets defensive and says he can go out and do whatever he wants for as long as he wants while she has to stay at home waiting for him. If she has to go out, she needs to tell him beforehand. She says she isn't used to being treated like an ornament (un adorno) because in Spain... Nicolas cuts her off and says we are in Santa Marta, and you need to adapt to the customs here.

Arturo is visiting the General, who says he's ashamed of his youngest son backing a slave in court. They're trying to get the good non-racist son (Alonso) to be Jaime's lawyer, but he says it's a conflict of interest since his brother is a witness for the defendant. Arturo keeps on him about it, but he's very firm and says no, sorry, I've got other things to do.

At the table, Isabel asks if Miguel can teach her to ride horses since he's not actually dead. Nicolas calls it a crazy idea and tells them that Jaime is on trial for murder because of Miguel, and Isabel is really happy that her future prometido could end up in jail. Nicolas is not amused, but I sure am! Victoria asks if Nicolas believes that Miguel can really win, and he says honestly no.

Arturo interrupts lunch at El Eden to tell Nicolas that Alonso will not be Jaime's lawyer. Arturo starts to threaten Nicolas that he will get Morales out of the mental hospital so he can tell everyone what Nicolas has done. Nicolas tells him to calm down and just find another lawyer, but Arturo says it's going to be very expensive (hint, hint).

La Esclava Blanca - Wednesday, May 25 - Capítulo 26, part 2

Nicolas is gathering money (probably for a lawyer) when Victoria chimes in that it would be a good idea to take Isabel to see Jaime, with the compromiso and all. Of course, Isabel is completely against it and what if she prefers to spend her life alone instead of next to a man? Nicolas gets all huffy and complains about how no woman in the house knows her place (Ugh...) He mentions that Isabel is the heir to El Eden and she needs to have a man help her for when he (Nicolas) is dead. Victoria sits silently on the bed, fuming with anger.

Catalina is yelling at Miguel, Angela, Gabriel and Manuela for what they said in court. She said it's not the right way to go about things (I was a little lost on what they did wrong here), but Miguel says it's going fine since the judge accepted to continue with the case rather than throwing it out. Felipe comes in and reports that the judge has requested more proof and more witnesses.

Arturo and Nicolas try to get Eugenia to talk to Alonso (since he's her socio) to take on Jaime's case. Cut to Alonso telling Eugenia that he won't be Jaime's lawyer because he doesn't agree with that family's beliefs on slavery. She mentions that not all sons follow their father's ideals, and of course the General makes a crack about Gabriel. Alonso again insists that he wants to stay out of it. Eugenia then asks him if he thinks Miguel should automatically win the case just because of the color of his skin? And isn't that the same exact reason that the doctor thinks his son should win?

Apparently this makes Alonso say yes, because Arturo is thanking Eugenia and Nicolas. As Eugenia walks away, but is still within earshot, Arturo says Nicolas won't have to worry about their deal once Jaime is free and their kids get married.

Candela is harassing Trinidad about having to help Remedios and teasing him about liking her. He gets up to walk away and Miguel jumps over the wall. Everyone is suprised to see him alive. They all go to hug him and Tomas smiles.

Nicolas and Eugenio are in bed again. She asks what's going on with his wife. He says he doesn't need to explain himself to her (Lucia). Eugenia thinks it's odd that he doesn't want to be with her since he was so excited about marrying her. Nicolas doesn't want to talk about his wife. Back to business as usual with these two...

Miguel told everyone else about Nicolas helping him escape and faking his death. He also lets them know he formally accused Jaime of murder since Jaime boasted about killing Rosita and the others who were about to be freed. Miguel needs to gather more witnesses. Miguel and Tomas speak alone; Tomas thanks him for trying to get justice for Rosita and that he supports him. But when he mentions Victoria, Miguel says he just wishes he could forget her but it's impossible. Milagros arrives, and she has brought Victoria with her. She wants to talk to Miguel, to explain herself, but he won't let her talk and he asks if she mentioned to them (Milagros and Tomas) that Nicolas is his father? Of course not.

Siervo and Tomas talk about Sara and how Nicolas knew that Miguel was his son, and now Tomas understands why Miguel always got special treatment. Siervo mentions that in a different world, Miguel would be the heir to El Eden. Some day, responds Tomas, but for now Victoria is the heir. Siervo retorts that it's probably pointless anyways since "a veces, ser mujer es peor que ser un negro" (sometimes being a woman is worse than being black).

The next day, Gabriel and Jesus are practicing their music when Manuela walks in to let Gabriel know that Jaime's lawyer is none other than his brother Alonso.

Gabriel goes to see Alonso and wants to know why he is helping Jaime. Alonso reminds him that every person has the right to a proper defense and they don't know yet what really happened. Gabriel asks how much are they paying you? Alonso ends the conversation.

La Esclava Blanca - Wednesday, May 25 - Capítulo 26, part 3

Victoria wonders where Nicolas spends his nights. Milagros says he probably has a lover. Ojalá (I hope so), says Victoria, we need someone to keep him busy.

Back at Eugenia's, Nicolas says he needs to go because of the trial. Eugenia says can you imagine if a slave wins against a white person? Nicolas says it's practically impossible unless there is a direct witness to the murder. Eugenia reminds him that Jaime is a complete idiot.

Trinidad asks Victoria if he can return to work in the fields instead of helping Remedios since he's better outside than doing a woman's job inside. Victoria says ok, but then tells Reme that Nicolas told Trinidad to return to the fields so they'll find someone else who is just as strong to help her. Reme is upset but then gets mad and says well all slaves are the same anyway.

Arturo tells Alonso that he needs to get Gabriel to take back his testimony. Alonso wants to go over the details again with Jaime, but Jaime is being a jerk as usual. Alonso then reads the possible sentence if Jaime is found guilty, which include the death penalty. This shuts Jaime up.

Miguel and Marcos are talking in the market about trying to get Isaias to testify on his behalf since Jaime shot him in the hand during one of his cruel hunting games. But Marcos reminds Miguel that Isaias belongs to the Lopezes so it will be difficult to get him to talk. He can't think of anyone else who will testify since they're all afraid. Miguel gets upset that everyone wants things to change but no one is willing to help.

In the carriage with Victoria, Isabel is complaining about having to go see Jaime. Victoria asks what she can do to help her, and Isabel asks if they can go see someone else and if she can keep a secret? Si, says Victoria. Of course they arrive at the inn where Gabriel is staying and Manuela doesn't want to have problems with Nicolas because of Isabel again. But Victoria gives her word that he won't find out, and hands her a huge fistful of coins before running off to the church. Isabel finds Gabriel and wants him to tell her everything that's been happening since she hasn't seen him in a while. She is realllllly excited to see him.

Victoria is in confession with the Padre. She reveals who she is and that she wants his help to get El Eden, but he remembers Nicolas' death threat from earlier. He claims he has no idea what she's talking about and that the baby died in the fire. Victoria can tell that he knows who she is and that he's lying. She wants to know why he's afraid, and who ordered him to be quiet. He says he's going to fetch her husband since she is acting crazy, but he will keep their conversation private.

Miguel finds Isaias and asks for his help as a witness.

Victoria thanks Catalina for helping Miguel. She asks for legal advice about her inheritance from her parents. Catalina informs her that since she married in Colombia, she has lost her Spanish citizenship and her husband is now the administrator of her property. Even if her husband died, everything would go to his children. There's no way to separate from Nicolas since the authorities would never support a woman against a man, even in the case of abuse. Las mujeres estamos maniatadas (women's hands are tied), Victoria says sadly. The world belongs to varones (men), Catalina responds, por ahora (for now).

This was much longer than I thought it was going to be!

La Esclava Blanca

Oops, noticed a little mistake I made - Gabriel is a witness for the plaintiff (Miguel); not the defendant (Jaime)!

Esclava

wow, thanks J!

what a terrific recap, and since my recorder chops up the captions it filled in a lot of blanks.

I finally got the inner circle names, Nicholas, Dr. Arturo Lopez, Captain Francisco Granados, and Damian Caicedo.

what Cata didn't like about the hearing was that they revealed Gabriel as a witness and thus have played all their cards, before the trial.

hmm, 1 judge and only 2 lawyers in this town.

at the water with Reme in his arms, I think Trinidad realized this was going to far, he was falling for her, he sure is a softy around her and a tough guy to everyone else.

Isabel is really a treat to watch, she is so full of life, and Gabriel is such a neat person, and they must be spending a fortune on clothes for this show.

and Victoria seems to be hitting dead ends, and what a mistake to have married Nicholas, but interesting that Miguel could inherit Eden (not in a million years) but it all seems to be hanging now on Isaias.

and I keep remembering the slave owners talking early on, they can't afford to let the slaves revolt because they would surely win, there are just too many of them.

I'll try and do the recap tonight.

Esclava Blanca

Thanks deb! I always have to watch the next day online since I don't have Telemundo, but luckily their CCs are pretty reliable on the website. I'm learning a lot of new words and (hopefully) getting better at understanding various accents. I'm fascinated by the way everyone talks since there are so many different ones in this TN.

Granados! That's the guy who is always in uniform! I can never remember his name either. I just think of him as the redhead's husband.

Isabel is probably my favorite right now. She is pretty adorable. I just hope she doesn't become Victoria's enemy because of the inheritance thing.

Since two people have said it would be nearly impossible for a slave to win a court case against a white person, I'm going to assume that it does in fact happen. I can't wait to see that horrible kid get what he deserves!

... 27/61
part 1

Isabel is with Gabriel, talk about Jaime, and catches Gabriel by surprise saying they want me to marry him, but I've decided to marry you, (as Manuela listens on, she wants no more trouble from Nicholas) oh but he explains he is not a popular guy right now, he is not a landowner, has no money... marriages are for convenience not love he adds, Isabel takes this as he doesn't love her, and leaves.

Victoria is done talking to Cata, runs into Miguel, he's mad/worried she is here, Cata leaves them to talk, but listens, Victoria says I know you hate me, I hate myself, I have lost you and don't know how to get you back, she loves him and wants her friend back, and he can't stop loving her, they kiss.

Felipe comes home catches Cata listening, startles her, getting Victoria and Miguel's attention, Felipe invites Victoria for lunch, but she must run (and be careful not to be seen)

Felipe warns Cata about her feelings for Miguel (and something about a last time)

Isabel is wandering through the street, bumps into a man, and loses her purse to a thief, but Gabriel has followed and gets it back, Isabel tells him she is trying not to like him and leaves.

Victoria arrives at Manuela's but where is Isabel, ah here she comes, they leave to go see Jaime, do we have to? Isabel wants to know, on the way Isabel talks about Gabriel, if he's poor I could share what I have, you were poor when you came to my dad, but it doesn't work that way Victoria tries to explain, and as Isabel asks Victoria if she loves her dad, she sees that she doesn't.

Nicholas grabs Miguel and they go off for a drink, Nicholas explains that he does business with these guys and cannot publicly support Miguel, but he is on his side (wow, this guy can be so believable, and he plays all sides) but Miguel needs the support of a white man, and you heard Lopezes say they wanted to kill me.

Nicholas then shows up at the doctors house, to show his support for Jaime, and to accompany Victoria and Isabel home, who were also there, waiting in the background while the men talked.

Bernal is the new guy for Reme, she wants to go out, and she gets to see Trinidad, he waves as she goes by.

Miguel thinks Nicholas is a good guy, that if he wins his case he will free himd, Felipe calls him naive, reminds him Nicholas owns him, yes but he admits to being my father, Miguel says, but only after you found out, and Cata breaks up the argument, you should be preparing for the trial, but there are no more witnesses, there is nothing to prepare.

Reme learns of Victoria's losses, the Padre denied knowing her, and Nicholas controls any inheritance, even if he died Eden would belong to his kids, and Reme gives Victoria a look like she had considered killing him.

but Victoria learned that Miguel still loves her, but how can she help someone that doesn't want any help, if only she could buy Isaias, ah but maybe she can with her jewels, Milagros knows someone that could help.

Esclava... 27/61
part 2

(oops, I chopped my headline above)

at dinner Nicholas is back on his impotency soup, to go with the family chat.

later that night he comes to Victoria, but can't do the deed, but hey, he has an idea, maybe they should go with Victoria's suggestion, separate bedrooms, grabs a pillow and leaves.

at church Victoria comes up to Ana, heard she does these transactions to get money, Ana is nervous that she knows, but wants to know why Victoria wants to do the same, to help Miguel.

Cata reads the court sentence of another slave, he lost, then was to be ?? cut into pieces, but he ran away, giving Miguel hints, Felipe asks him if he wants to run away, but Miguel will stay if the murders of the to be freed slaves get investigated.

Ana sells Victoria's jewels, (on the condition her husband doesn't find out) as Victoria waits in the carriage, now it's Victoria's turn to ask Ana why she did it, to help Miguel, she knows he is of a different race but he made her feel alive, like a woman.

in court, the lawyers gave their arguments, etc etc, Jaime testifies, Miguel had it in for him, got him cornered on a lonely road, chopped my hand off, Miguel testifies Jaime had a gun, he didn't, Jaime ran him down and bragged about killing Rosa, how he enjoyed it, they fought, Jaime's not liking the truth and jumps in, the judge wants order, gets Jaime to shut up, brings the lawyers up to the bench, tells Alonso to control Jaime or he will throw him out, tells Felipe he must have some real evidence or he will order the public execution of Miguel for perjury.

Victoria brings Cata the money, but she replies they already tried to buy Isaias, Eugenia bought him, so Victoria goes there, Eugenia wants to know the real why, it's for Miguel who Nicholas favors, as Nicholas shows up at the gate for another romp and Victoria freaks, Bunme tells him Eugenia is busy and plants a big guy at the gate, Eugenia hasn't decided to help, but won't tell Nicholas, oh and why was Nicholas here Victoria wants to know, business.

Nicholas, Victoria, Isabel, and Adela meet, Nicholas explains there was a brawl in court between Jaime's supporters and the freedmen, so it was postponed until tomorrow, he asks Adela to come back home, she agrees but not for a couple of days, she has to make arrangements.

Eugenia and Bunma talk about Miguel, did she say he was bon bon?

next day Nicholas brings Victoria and Isabel to the trial, he says it might get ugly, Isabel hopes they lynch Jaime, Nicholas is not amused.

Felipe states his case, but Alonso says it's all speculation, the facts are two men fought, the accuser is safe and sound, the other lost his hand, it's ones' word against the other, but wait Felipe has one more witness, Isaias, and Miguel smiles at Victoria and she smiles at Eugenia.

(and we found out tonight that Arturo IS the only doctor in Santa Marta)

EVA

Spanprof, the other male at the party was Esteban, Pancho and Soraya's chauffer.
