TELEMUNDO...

looks like Secretos ends on Monday and ¿Quién es Quién? goes to 2 hours on Tuesday.

Esclava

is anyone watching the show who followed the original. I tried to catch up on the last few episodes and sometimes the scenes don't flow. I'm assuming that Telemundo is doing it's usual hatchet job on the show but they're not doing a good job of it.

Thanks very much for the heads-up, deb, about the change in Telemundo's daytime programming. LXV will want to know about this for next week's Telemundo pages on CarayCaray.

EVA – JUEVES – Parte 1 de 2

We see Marlene’s shock at finding her ex, Reynaldo Santacruz in her Living Room.

Crap! Camila did NOT know who Andy the Asqueroso was when she said púdrete to him outside Eva’s house a couple of episodes ago. She ends up accepting a ride to work from “Antonio”. He, of course, is after a way into Eva’s house, probably to plant some of his handy bugs, so as to spy on her for Marlene. Later Camila tells Adriana about the great guy she met!

Reynaldo (hereafter Rey) tells Marlene he met her new husband yesterday. He calls him “natural”, meaning not of their social class. He tells her she owes him big time, and he’s going to make her life a living hell.

The woman client of Agencias Contreras has come there to discuss divorcing the husband they photographed with another woman.

Marlene comes to tell Andy about the visit from Rey. He looks worried. He gives her a gun and then pulls one of his own from under a table.

Enrique comes to meet with Eva and also to fill out some paperwork to be hired by Soler e Hijas. He’s obviously has quite the crush on Virginia.

We see a flashback of Marlene visiting Rey in prison. Talk about gall! She’s come to ask him to give her the money from some offshore account. After she’s taken everything else.

It turns out that Rey is the nephew of Federica. He’s come to Eva’s house to see her, having tracked his tía down.

Soraya wakes up terrified from a nightmare about when the big truck ran them off the road. She says: “Pancho! We had an accident!” I think for a little while that she’s remembered everything. But she still thinks she’s a young girl. She finds a mirror and first sees her youthful self. Then the image changes to her current face.

Pablo is in a conference room to hash out the settlement with his client, her husband, and his lawyer. He senses that they still love each other and suggests they go out for a while and talk to each other. The other lawyer is disgusted that he might lose a hefty fee.

Federica tells Rey about how wonderful Eva is and, of course, Eva comes home just then. She meets Rey, who gives her one of those significant admiring telenovela looks. [Hmmm. I thought the guy who wanted fireworks transported would be Pablo’s competition; looks like it could be Rey.]

Eva and Rey compare notes about Marlene. Rey asks her how she even survived Marlene. They make a pact to work together against La Alacrana

The psychiatrist comes to talk with Soraya after her fearful discovery of an older woman in the mirror. She tells the shrink she now believes she really is crazy.

EVA – JUEVES – Parte 2 de 2

Damián and Luis look at some papers showing bad prospects for Panchopan. Damián suggests he ask the employees to take a pay cut to keep the company going.

The psychiatrist shows Soraya her CA drivers license and tells her that this is who she is. She goes on to tell the frightened Soraya that this is the beginning of her recovery.

Armando comes to the office in the middle of Marlene ranting to Elsa about not knowing where he is. [He was at the truck sales place telling the owner to keep quiet about his having helped Eva get credit. But he does plan to use this later to get her back.] Armando kisses Marlene affectionately. He goes on to tell her that he met her ex.

Eva tells Rey what Marlene said about him: that he’d stolen all of the Palacios’ money. Rey: “That’s a lie.” She and her brother spent all the Palacios family money and went through his as well. They got him involved in a real estate venture that was a cover-up for laundering drug money. His name was all over the paperwork when this was discovered. He ended up in prison while she got off scot-free.

In his office Armando tells Gusano what his mother told him: Más llama las moscas una gota de miel que un tarro de hiel. [You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.] He’s enjoying his attempt to lull Marlene into a false sense of security. But it isn’t working. She tells Elsa that she’s very suspicious. She taught him to fake it, and now he’s lying to her.

At the pharmacy Camila tells Adriana that Virginia’s ex gives her a bad vibe with the way he looks at her. A guy that Adriana says is an obvious addict comes into the pharmacy wanting to get something without a prescription. The pharmacist motions him over, saying he’ll help him.

Martín makes me laugh. He’s doing a crossword puzzle. He approaches JJ and says he’s looking for a word of eight letters that means erectile dysfunction. Then he says he’s got it: impotent!

Eva walks Rey to the door. Just then Pablo has come to try some new strategy for winning back Eva and sees them on the doorstep. He recognizes Rey from when he went to see him in prison, but is puzzled as to why he’s at Eva’s house.

Eva

wow, what a wonderful recap novelera!

Federica's story to Eva in prison about how she knew Marlene involved her nephew, which was throwing me because of the story about her son, about time they connected all the dots.

Armando is kind of fun to follow around now, always happy, the perfect husband, and when Marlene comes on to him he brings up the ex., rubbing salt in the wounds, love it.

and he is definitely not in the inner circle of bad guys.

and I'm with you about Camila not knowing who Andy is, and since she is best buds with Adri now and an instant reveal could happen at any time, I wonder how long they will keep her in the dark, should we count the days?

Telemundo should have a site where we can throw rocks at the bad guys.

ah yes, life at the Contreras office, Pablo is staring at a picture of Eva on his computer, Martin says he will get conjunctivitis or something doing that, JJ is trying to distract himself by killing aliens on his computer, and Martin is doing a crossword puzzle, why don't you do something for a client Pablo asks, client? Martin says, what client? and JJ says he can't concentrate, maybe he should find another occupation, which gives Pablo an idea, I'm wondering if he was thinking about being a truck driver.

Eva. Excellent recap, novelera! Camila didn't know who Andy was? Really? But I guess it's possible. I too vaguely remembered Federica mentioning a nephew when she was in prison, and that he was somehow a victim of Marlene--it was a while ago though. Rey turned out to be much nicer than expected. I presume then that he will be seeking legal revenge against Marlene rather than stabbing her some night in a dark ally. I'm very glad that Soraya is finally on the road to recovery and has that nice sensible psychiatrist! Luis seems to have listened to Damián's sensible advice. Reducing pay rather than laying people off is a solution that has been tried by a few US and European companies, I believe, including a few car companies? Nice that Pablo was so much more ethical than the other lawyer in the divorce case. Once the couple started reminiscing, it was obvious that they were on the road to reconciliation. And man, Eva's household has a cozy feeling!

Eva

Many thanks, novelera, for this excellent recap. I think you hit all the important points, and I'm delighted that you included the Spanish dicho. Because it's similar to the English version, I understood it when I heard it, but I'm glad to see it in writing.

I strongly hope that Adri soon sees Camila with Andy and sets her straight on who/what he is.

In spite of her confusion and terror, it looks as if Soraya is finally beginning to recover. I'm glad the psychiatrist seems to have her best interests at heart.

Eva

Deb, that's an interesting idea that Pablo might be thinking about being a truck driver. But is that really a "new branch"? Didn't he start off trying to infiltrate Mon-Sol by being one of their drivers? At this point, I doubt that he'd be hired by either Mon-Sol or Soler e Hijas.

"Quién es Quién? goes to 2 hours on Tuesday."

Thanks, Deb, for this info. Two hour episodes are the kiss of death for me with any telenovela. Drat.

Doris: Amen! It burns me up when they run two-hour episodes, as if we didn't have lives!

Eva

I'll put up a quick recap in the next couple of hours.

EVA LA TRAILERA - VIERNES - Parte 1 de 2

Pablo drives up to Eva's house and sees Rey and Eva together outside the door. Federica comes out to leave with Rey. She kisses Eva, and it looks as if Rey, too, tries to give Eva a friendly kiss, but she pulls away and shakes hands instead. "Today the hand, another day the cheek," he says. Pablo isn't pleased (surprise, surprise).

Adri and Camila are working at the pharmacy. Adri wants Camila to try to overhear the conversation between the drug addict and the pharmacist. Camila feels reluctant to do that. Adri pretends that she's taking a photo of Camila but really takes it of the drug addict. She tells Cami that they need to document everything shady that goes on.

Robert comes to see Luis. He demands that Luis fire the secretary because she's not where she's supposed to be. Luis doesn't agree with him. Robert tells Luis that he must assert his power. Luis responds that what is important is that he make people respect him. People respect authority, a firm hand, says Robert. The two of them also disagree about Soraya. Luis tells him that he is not willing at this time to have Soraya declared incompetent. He has been told there's a chance she will recover, and he wants to wait. The imperious Robert tells him that either he has Soraya declared incompetent or the company will fail.

Pablo tells JJ how disappointed he was to see Eva flirting with Rey. JJ teases him about being jealous and tells him not to give up. Speak to Eva. Pablo tells him the plan to ask Eva for work is stupid. JJ replies that Pablo doesn't have to be a truck driver for the rest of his life, the idea is just to find a way to be close to Eva and make her happy.

Rey and Federica have dinner together. Rey tells her he came back to get vengeance for himself but also for her. He vows to help her get back what belongs to her. He also tells her that he really likes Eva. Federica strongly urges him not to pursue Eva, not to fall in love with her. Eva has just left a disastrous marriage, this isn't the time to make a play for her.

Pablo apparently took JJ's advice not to give up, so he again drives to Eva's with the intention of talking to her and asking for work. But in the meantime, Armando has come to Eva's, ostensibly to see his daughters and to give Fabi some candies that she likes. Just then, Adri and Fabi return home. Armando gives Fabi the candies. Seeing her parents together, Fabi asks Armando to kiss Eva. Eva isn't pleased, but Armando does indeed kiss her, just as Pablo drives up (of course). He drives away, but not before a smug Armando looks at him triumphantly.

At the hospital, the psychiatrist is trying to learn more about her puzzling patient, Purita/Soraya. Esteban comes by to see Soraya and tells the psychiatrist that Purita and Soraya are the same person at different stages of her life. He says he has known her for a long time, and that she is the best woman he has ever known. The psychiatrist asks him to tell her everything he knows, so she can begin to solve the puzzle. Soon after this, Luis comes to see Soraya. Soraya looks at Esteban and asks who he is. Luis tells her. She then asks Luis, "And who are you?" He's taken aback and hesitantly says he's Pancho. "You're not Pancho!" she insists. "Do you really think I wouldn't know my own husband?" She's very upset. She thinks Luis and Esteban are making fun of her.

Luis and Esteban leave at the psychiatrist's request. Eva calls Luis and asks how Soraya is doing. She's doing very poorly, he says. Eva tells him not to make any decisions, she'll come right away to the hospital. As she's about to leave for the hospital, Pablo calls and says he needs to talk to her. She tells him she can't talk now, Soraya has taken a turn for the worse and she's going to the hospital to see her. Adri comes with her.

EVA LA TRAILERA - VIERNES - Parte 2 de 2

At the hospital, before Eva can even get to see Soraya, she's waylaid by Pancho. "I saw you flirting with Santa Cruz and kissing Montes," he tells her. "You've been spying on me," she says. They begin to have one of their seemingly endless arguments, but it is interrupted when they suddenly hear Soraya's voice screaming for Pancho. As Eva is about to go to Soraya, Pablo blurts out that he needs her to give him work.

Eva enters Soraya's room and refers to her as Purita. "Don't call me Purita, I'm Soraya!" Eva is momentarily thrilled at Soraya's apparent recovery of her memory, but her pleasure turns to despair when Soraya keeps calling for Pancho. Eva is crying, and Soraya begins to understand. "No! No! No! Tell me it's not true! I want to die." The two women hug and cry, as Pablo looks on from the doorway.

Luis, meanwhile, is asking Adri whether there's a chance for them to get together again. Yes, she says, but you'd have to accept both me and the baby. He hesitates and then pulls away. He tells her, "if you weren't pregnant, or if you lost the baby...." Adri is very upset. He claims that the baby separates them, but she tells him that what separates them are his words. She feels that "with the baby or without, you'll never forgive me."

Soraya tells the psychiatrist that she needn't worry about her any more, because she now knows who she is. The psychiatrist asks her who she is, and Soraya tells her "I am a living death. I am a widow."

Marlene pays a visit to the Monteverdes. She asks whether there has been any progress with Luis. Robert says they almost got him to agree to have Soraya declared incompetent, but Eva interfered, and Luis agreed to wait. Marlene says that in that case, she'll have to use more radical methods with Luis. Cinthia becomes alarmed, asks her what she means.by "radical methods," and warns her again not to mess with her son. Marlene tells them that she and Andy did the work for money, and thus far they haven't seen any results. "The clock is ticking," she warns them. "Don't waste time."

When Marlene returns home, Armando asks why she's suddenly so interested in the Monteverdes: "You don't do something for nothing" (no das puntadas sin hilo). She tells him that at the moment she's not doing anything, but when she does, she'll let him know, because "what's mine is yours and what's yours is mine" [does he realize that that's a threat?].

Back at Eva's, Cami receives a call from Andy the Asqueroso, aka Antonio. She leaves the house. Soon afterward, Enrique calls Virginia to ask her to go to the movies, and she too leaves. Cami meets Andy about a block from the house and asks him why he wanted her to meet him at the street corner instead of coming to the house so she could introduce him to her friends. "How would you introduce me," he asks, "as an amigo or as a novio?" Cami is taken aback. "I barely know you," she says. [She got that right!] He takes her to his apartment and offers her a drink. She declines alcohol and asks for coffee. The look on his face when he goes to prepare it tells Viewerville that he'll probably add a little something to it (perhaps rohypnol?).

Eva leaves Soraya's room with Pablo, and they talk. She tells him that Pancho and Soraya had the most beautiful love in the world. Pablo claims he loves Eva that way. She replies that if he did, he wouldn't let Betty come between them. "If you love me as you say, end it with Betty now." "There's no way of being with you," Pablo tells her, "and I too am tired/fed up" (yo también me canso). And thus ends the episode.

Eva. Excellent recap, Juanita! I got the feeling that this episode did even more skipping around from scene to scene and character to character than usual, but maybe that's just me. I'm glad to see that Luis is finally standing up to Robert a bit again. Hope it lasts and Luis follows Damian's advice. I thought it was great that Esteban was able to give Viviana all the information she needs to treat Soraya--but it looks as if she is now well, though grieving. The test will be if she recognizes Luis as himself. I'm thinking that Camila's suspicious nature may save her from Andy. I too thought that Andy might have put something into Camila's coffee, but since he's ostensibly dating her to get information about Eva, that would be very foolish--unless it's truth serum he adds, that is. I'm also wondering whether in his sociopathic little heart Andy isn't starting to fall for Camila a bit. Esteban is right that Luis really blew it with Adri by telling her that the baby would come between them, and the way he said was a bit insulting, I thought. You don't insult a mother's baby!

Eva

Many thanks,SpanProf, for your kind assessment of the recap and your astute comments about the episode. To be honest, I almost always feel that the episodes jump around a LOT from scene to scene and character to character. I don't think I noticed it more this time, but it may be that I was paying even more attention than usual to what the characters were saying, since I'd be writing a recap. I might add that in this recap, as in most of the others I've done, I try to reduce the amount of skipping around that the episode does. That probably means the recap loses some of the feel of the episode, but I find I can write the recap more easily when I can connect the dots.

I was delighted to see that Luis was now channeling Pancho again, or at least listening to Eva's and Damián's advice. I loved it when Luis told Robert that he wasn't officially a consultant, since the enterprise didn't have much money and so Luis was trying not to incur "unnecessary expenses"! Like you, I hope this lasts. I wonder whether Luis' approach and behavior will be affected by whether Soraya recognizes him as her son. I so hope she does, and ahora mismo.

Speaking of hope, I hope you're right about Camila's suspicious nature possibly saving her from Andy.

And yes, Luis blew it again with Adri. At first, she thought he was suggesting that she abort the baby, but even after he said that wasn't what he meant, he couldn't get his foot out of his mouth.

What are the odds that Rey will listen to Federica's advice about not pursuing Eva?

Eva. In answer to your question, Juanita, I would say slim to none--but that should make things interesting. :)

Eva

thanks so much Juanita for another one of you unique recaps! you are very good at this.

I like that they are lightening things up with a little comedy, JJ sending Pablo back to fight for his love only to be another disaster and then offering to find him a new name on the internet when he says he's changing it was cracking me up.

Camila was the one girl in the group in prison that never fought back, and now Andy is reeling her in.

I love it every time Luis disagrees with Robert.

Federica's earlier talk with Pablo suggesting that if he really loves Eva he would go away opens the door for her encouraging her nephew.

what a wonderful character Soraya is, and the actress playing her, Vanessa Bauche, should win an award, such a touching story.

interesting that Pablo's jealousy over Rey and Armando blinds him because when Eva brings up Betty, who he is living with, he just doesn't get it.

Quién es Quién?

Doris- I was going to say Amen as well, I am really enjoying this, but...

on the other hand, 60 shows left, with the change, only 6 weeks left, or shorter if Telemundo pulls out the scissors.

and if you haven't been following them,
http://5ftlatina.com/cohete
has been keeping up with full detailed recaps, so a person could read along and watch now and then.

(hmm, my original post disappeared)

Esclava

wow, things are not going well, but what a treat to view the costumes and locations.

Victoria, who didn't have much of a plan, now does with Miguel's help, they will wait till the wedding day when all are at the church, and escape in their carriage overland to a place where they can catch a boat to freedom, arranged with the local indians, and the details work out like this, Victoria explains that it is her custom for Nicholas not to see her dress until she arrives at the church so he will wait for her there, and she will arrive in a carriage driven by Miguel with Remi, the blacksmith (something about her dress) and another slave she will pick later.

but something terrible has happened, an inner circle of slave owners, joined by Nicholas, who resent giving their slaves freedom when they turn 18, begin to sport hunt them leaving their bodies to be found, and Nicholas gives up the slave who begged him not to be let free, and Rosa, who Isabel has rejected because she will leave when she comes of age, they are both shot dead, and Rosa's body left hanging in a tree (this is in the intro), to be found by Nicholas' slaves the next morning on their way to work, Every one is shaken, Nicolas faking his, vowing to find the guilty, Adela could care less.

Milagros has had enough, an eye for an eye, she gathers herbs to make a poison.

Victoria's plan is working perfectly and wedding day arrives, she looks stunning, but Milagros is in the house preparing a tea for her, an aphrodisiac requested by the master, she says, then she runs for it but is followed by Tomas, she spills what she has done, Victoria drinks the tea, while Miguel has gone looking for Tomas and Milagros, bringing them back, and they (Victoria, Remi, Miguel, Tomas, Milagros) are in the carriage and finally off to freedom, Tomas has something to say to Victoria, but she goes first, it's me papa, Victoria, I'm back to take you to freedom, then she falls sick, spitting out blood, (wow, what a heavy scene) and Tomas reveals she was poisoned.

as they fumble around looking for herbs to make an antidote, Victoria slowly dies, Tomas, always the rational one, rides the horse to town to get Nicholas, who arrives to take Victoria to Eden where the doctor will be waiting, Tomas and Milagros are left to walk back alone.

Esclava" I am watching but only on weekends. Thank you so much deb. Nicolas is a degenerate, disgusting and cruel. He can't wait to ravage Viki. I hate his guts. What a cruel world for the slaves. I find it hard not to let hate overcomes me. Very, very hard for me to see those scenes about the slaves. The costumes are beautiful, scenery and the music.

Eva

Thanks so much, Juanita, for Friday's recap. I enjoy the way you write them, compressing several scenes into an explanation. I tend to do the same. Telemundo likes to cut from one mini-cliffhanger to another location and set of characters entirely, and then go back to that scene. It's exhausting to write every single scene. So it's much easier to combine into some sort of desenlace for that episode. Again, terrific recap and much thanks!

Deb, I agree 100% that Vanessa Bauche is amazing as Purita/Soraya. Her grief upon Eva telling her that Pancho did not survive the accident was so well acted.

Eva told the truth to Pablo. She felt that having seen what a great love could be: that of Pancho and Soraya; she didn't want to settle for less. And that's what he's offering her by not getting Betty out of his home.

So, Pablo says he's done pursuing Eva. I suspect they'll carry on with that, for a while at least. Although I wonder what else Pablo could do. They don't have any business at the agency. And Fajardo told him no exhumation for at least two years after the burial. Maybe they just won't have many scenes for his character for a while, except for some Betty manipulations.

I like the idea of the Furias, but the drugstore scenes are boring.

Eva

Thanks very much, deb, for your very supportive remarks about the recap and your great comments about the episode. I too loved it when Luis kept disagreeing forcefully with Robert. I just hope he keeps this up and doesn't have a relapse into Monteverde mode.

I too have been very impressed with the terrific job Vanessa Bauche has done as Soraya.

Also, thanks very much for the recaps you've been doing of Esclava. I find them both helpful and interesting.

Eva

Novelera, thanks so much for your appreciative remarks about the recap. I'm delighted that you like the way I've put the parts together.

I agree that so far, the drugstore scenes haven't been all that interesting. I'm not sure this is relevant, but almost all the other plot threads involve Marlene in one way or another, but I don't think there's a connection between her and the drug store. I just hope that Andy doesn't get Camila hooked on drugs which she can then try to get at the pharmacy.

Eva

Oops--I just noticed that at the start of Parte 2 of my Friday recap, I say that Eva is waylaid in the hospital by Pancho. Duh. Obviously, I meant to say Pablo. (This isn't the first time I've written one name when I meant the other, but I think I caught the earlier errors before I posted them.)

Eva. Juanita: I hadn't thought about Andy's getting Camila hooked on drugs without her conscious knowledge--more or less what he did to Adriana, and it seems to be his m.o. Otoh, it would be a repetition of an earlier plot strand, so maybe this time his would-be victim will foil him

Eva

Good point, SpanProf. ¡Ojalá!

EVA
Thanks Juanita I'm catching up over here and your excellent recap certainly helped fill in the blanks. And I was also nervous about Andy and the addiction angle. but as SpanProf says: "a repetition of an earlier plot strand, so maybe this time his would-be victim will foil him"

Thanks deb for the heads up about programación changes.

Esclava

I caught up last night. Wow, just wow. Incredible cruelty and cynicism on the part of Nicolás. It was unbelievable that he sacrificed his only child's lifelong companion to continue with the plot to frighten the 18 year old slaves into not insisting on their right to freedom under the law.

I had a little technical problem and the screen went blank for the scene where Milagros (do I have the name right) gave Victoria the poisoned tea. May try to watch online sometime later.

I'm quite sure Victoria is going to survive, and I suppose her being poisoned will give a nice long delay before another wedding attempt. I was, of course, wondering if she'd end up pregnant after hers and Miguel's lovemaking.

It's definitely riveting and doesn't sugarcoat any of the horrors. I'm still thinking they've overdone Morales. He has what amounts to a phobia about black people. He said in one of the episodes, not sure as I binge watched, that all of them should be killed.

Victoria doesn't take her would-be mother-in-law's meddling well at all. She called her on the snooping through her things to find the necklace given her by her mother.

No time for more. Must jump in the shower as son and daughter-in-law are about to arrive to spoil me on Mothers Day.

Esclava

novelera- riveting is right, this whole slave thing puts an edge on it where anyone can be killed at any time, none of this going to jail and justice stuff, I don't even know if they have a jail, oh wait, they do as where they put everyone they brought back from the Palenque.

Milagros made the tea in the kitchen of the big house, but gave it to the house servant to take up to Victoria, then quietly left and kept on going.

and there was this other little story where at Rosa's funeral, Tomas accused Miguel of Rosa's death, because Miguel had approached her about going away without revealing Victoria, and she took it as they were going to run away together, and Tomas interpreted it as Rosa went to meet Miguel is how she was caught and killed.

Tomas, in his rage, also outed Miguel on all the other girls he had flings with, and of course Victoria and Nicholas were standing right there.

the next time they met, Miguel did admit to the other flings (Victoria in telling Remi about being with Miguel I believe was under the impression it was the first time for both of them) but not since Victoria came back and never, never with Rosa.

ah and at one time Nicholas told Adela (his mother) to be at the beck and call of Victoria, which didn't go over too well.

Esclava

Are we sure it was tea that poisned Vicky...could it have been the chocolates that Nik's mistress gave her. That whole scene with her stealing time with Vicky was suspect to me...and I actually thought she was trying to harm Vicky...before I knew what Milo was up to.

Nett

Esclava

good point Nett, definitely something suspicious there, and Victoria wasn't giving any of the chocolates to Remi, but after they didn't seem to bother her I started wondering if the garter was made of poison ivy or something.

Eugenia is interesting as it has been suggested that she may be of African descent, which is Nicholas' preference as his mother pointed out, I keep wondering if she will help.

I loved how the carriage had a saddle in the box at the back, like a spare tire, that enabled Tomas to ride to town.
