Esclava 1/2

Felipe listened well when Armando confronted Nicholas over his son's lost hand, and relates to Miguel that he convinced everyone that he had killed you, and it appears Victoria as well, Miguel wants answers, Felipe has a way to see her.

it's morning,

Milagro comes to a happy Victoria in bed, did it work, yes, Nicholas is impotent, keep doing what ever you are doing, and Victoria gives her, is it money?

Trinidad brings food to Reme, she is eating now, but doesn't want to get fatter than she already is, Trinidad tells her she is pretty,

Victoria comes to Reme who wants nothing to do with her, asks her to drop the revenge, Victoria won't, she needs Reme's help.

Cata is complaining about the cost of this adventure as they get ready to leave, Cata and Miguel in their coach to the sea, Felipe rides to Eden, where he runs into Victoria and Isabel going for a carriage ride, he suggests the sea (having heard Isabel's story the night before), she has never seen the sea and can't wait.

interesting maneuvering here (I really like Felipe and Cata) Isabel is fascinated by the waves as Felipe and Victoria fall back he says they have a friend in common, impossible, Felipe's on her side, he's an abolitionist, Victoria is suspicious and stops as Felipe moves on to where Isabel is and Cata appears beside Victoria, taking her off to see something, but Victoria has had enough intrigue and stops, Cata tells her Miguel is alive, moves off, Miguel is behind her, (wow, this was really emotional), she stares in disbelief, then she runs to him.

Trinidad is making mint tea to help Reme, since Milagros wasn't there.

Nicholas is at the cacao field, awakens Morales, drunk? nope, and tells Nicholas, his wife and daughter left with Felipe, upsetting Nicholas, but I thought you knew, Morales says.

Victoria is so emotionally confused to see Miguel alive, they hug, then Miguel breaks away, why did you marry, to get revenge, she says, on the man that killed you, then Miguel learns that Eden is rightfully hers, (now his turn), to get revenge on the man that saved my life, are you so sure it was Nicholas that 20 years ago that killed your parents, Morales could have been working for someone else, then she learns, she married his papa, wow!

Cata and Miguel leave, Felipe finds Victoria, she tells him she has lost Miguel, he says give it some time, she says, I know him, and Felipe gets her to pull herself together for Isabel, they return to where she is and eat, but Victoria is not hungry, and runs off to get sick, a worried Isabel says they should leave now.

Esclava 2/2

at Eden an angry Nicholas confronts them when they return, going out with a stranger, Isabel pleads that it was her idea, Victoria says he is being rude to their guest, so Nicholas invites Felipe in for a drink, and apologizes, I see why you are here now, you're courting Isabel, Nicholas likes the idea.

Morales' men are drinking, but Morales isn't, we see Milagros peeking around.

Cata can't control Miguel who goes to a bar to forget, a man approaches Cata ignoring the negro, and a fight breaks out, Gabriel is there and helps Miguel, and they manage to run out the back as the soldiers pour in the front, Cata begs Gabriel to keep Miguels secret, he will.

(did Cata say something about Miguel telling Gabriel his story?)

Victoria goes to see Reme, I need my best friend now more that ever, Reme wants to know what trouble she is in now, Victoria tells her Miguel is alive.

later Nicholas crawls into bed with Victoria, pawing her, but then stops and lets her sleep.

morning,

Cata awakes hungover Miguel, he talks with Felipe over breakfast, Felipe ask why he doesn't go to Antioquia, but Miguel says he's staying to get justice, or to be near the woman you love, Felipe adds, Miguel is convinced they are done, he doesn't know this woman anymore, but doesn't reveal his plans (did he say he needed to see someone).

Nicholas, Victoria, Isabel, have breakfast, he likes his family together, broaches the subject of Felipe courting Isabel, but he's so old Isabel says, I like Gabriel, but she learns she doesn't have a say, and she storms out, later Victoria tells her they'll come up with something.

Morales awakes to a music box under his bed, in his head he hears screaming and baby Victoria's cries, and in the flashbacks we see it is the same music box from the fire, Morales smashes it, buries it, and prays to baby Jesus to stop tormenting him, he was just doing what he was ordered, as Nicholas fetches him, are they going to Santa Marta.

Eva

hmm, does Adri suspect Camila is working with Andy and has betrayed them all, but she wants to be sure before revealing anything, and does Andy have a thing for Camila, I thought their running away together was a Las Vegas thingy where he buries her in the desert, but maybe not, and good guy Armando is confusing us all, and is Betty becoming a sympathetic character, drawing us all into hell.

Eva

Evencio, I love this guy, Armando says he had nothing to do with hijacking the truck, but what about Carmen and Sofia, well let's not bring up the past Armando says, I've changed, so give me the names of the two guys that beat me, and maybe I will trust you.

Eva. Why, bless Andy's sociopathic, murdering little heart! I think he's really in love with Camila and truly wants to move away with her and start a new life. He's also fed up with Marlene, his jefa, and the way she dominates him. I also loved good old skeptical Evencio and his chat with Armando. Adri has definitely jumped to the conclusion that Camila knows who Andy is. So telenovelaish! Marisol gave us some background on Betty. But if Betty is an orphan, and was partially raised by Marisol's parents, does that mean she was sexually abused too, or did that happen afterwards, or did the writers just forget? The whole Betty situation is getting very nail-biting, but then this is a telenovela, so she probably will sacrifice herself for the baby. And Betty being Betty, it's no doubt all for her higher goal of keeping Pablo tied to her--she's willing to risk her life for that. Interesting that Robert suspects a trap from Soraya but thinks he can outsmart her. ¡Qué esperanza! as they say. Another fun Enrique-Virginia scene, in which Enrique is shocked by Virgi's gloating about Octavio's arrest. And evidently Federica has a new clue about Sebastián's efforts to protect his property from Leyla.

Esclava

Thanks so much, deb, for this wonderful recap. I love your recaps, and I'm especially grateful to you for doing so many for Esclava. So much continues to elude and/or puzzle me, and I find your recaps very helpful as well as delightful.

I'm not sure what Victoria gave to Milagros. It might have been money, but I had the feeling it was something else, perhaps jewelry?

Is it possible that this novela will break one of the longstanding Telenovela Rules, namely, that when a sexually active woman of childbearing age throws up, it means she's pregnant? I don't think Victoria is pregnant, and it's possible she threw up from all the emotional turmoil she's experiencing, but certainly a possible pregnancy did cross my mind. How could it not: I watch telenovelas.

So much about Miguel's experience after being "killed" by Nicholas is fuzzy to me, but in answer to your question, I think he tells Felipe that he owes someone an explanation, but who and about what I don't know.

I'll probably be out until after midnight again tonight, so I'm not sure when I'll get to see tonight's episodes of Eva and Esclava. It's really weird: watching Wagner's Ring Cycle, I keep being reminded of telenovelas!

Eva. Juanita: Well, the followers of Northrop Frye (if there are any left) would say that they all have mythic roots! Which is probably true. :)

Eva

So I caught up last night. It’s kind of fun to do a two-fer. You don’t have to suffer with the cliffhanger on the first one!

Adriana continues to be irritating. So far the only thing she’s consistent about is her love for and good deeds for Fabiola. She drove away Luis in a bitter tirade. Now she’s jumped to a wrong conclusion about Camila. She KNOWS what a snake Andy is. Why couldn’t she figure out he might be up to something and pulling the wool over poor Camila’s eyes? I suppose they’re going with dragging out Adriana not telling Camila who Andy is, thinking she already knows.

Since I didn’t watch the episode in which La Alacrana tortured Betty, I didn’t comment on that yesterday. My God, that was awful. We certainly don’t like Betty, but that cruelty by Marlene was just awful, awful. And she didn’t have enough humanity to call 911!

Yep, Betty is a goner. This neatly solves the writers’ problems with her having custody and Eva and Pablo only visitation rights.

For those who watched Bajo el Mismo Cielo, a baby died in that one. But the poor thing had really bad genes going for it, a mother who got its father to kill for her. I suspect Pablo's niña will survive.

So on-again-off-again Pablo and Eva were on for about 5 minutes. But I suppose now that we’re in for a death watch for Betty, Eva’s scruples will drive her away again.

I really like Evencio too.

Eva

Thanks, SpanProf, for reminding me about Northrop Frye. Yes, he and you are probably right about both Wagner and telenovelas having mythic roots. It's amusing, though, given that similarity, that when I tell people I watch telenovelas, they regard me as una naca (to use one of Cinthia Monteverde's favorite words). On the other hand, if I tell them I'm an opera fan and love Wagner's Ring Cycle, they think I'm putting on airs. :-)

Eva. Juanita: :) Enjoy the rest of the cycle! As for me, apart from Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg, which I love, I can take or leave Wagner. I'm more of a Mozart, Verdi and Rossini fan myself.

Eva. And interestingly enough, in the 19th century opera was considered popular entertainment.

Eva. Come to think of it, in addition to keeping my spoken Spanish current and colloquial, that might explain my attraction to telenovelas.

EVA –Viernes

OK, this novela could break the mold. They’ve dropped a couple of hints that the cute obstetrician could be a possible for Pablo. They’re going with Pablo marrying Betty, so he’s too much of a fool, perhaps, to deserve Eva. Maybe she’ll just end up single and strong.

Poor Camila. She comes home over the moon and madly in love. Eva and Las Furias are concerned and try to talk her out of moving in with this guy Antonio. Eva asks why he doesn’t want to meet her queridos

Leila, Federica’s nuera gets a visit from Raul, the Vet. Leila comes right out with it. She doesn’t care even a rat’s patootie about him.. She tells him he’s a lousy lover. Slap! Slap! He vows revenge.

Fabiola is the heroine of the night. Banished from the “adult” conversations in the Living Room, she goes in and wakes up Adriana. Then Adriana accuses Camila of being Andy’s accomplice.

Betty, told straight out that both she and the baby could die, agrees to the Caesarian on one condition, that Pablo marry her before the surgery.

Adriana tells the Furies about hearing Andy’s voice on Cami’s phone and then following her to his apartment and seeing them kissing. Eva tries to calm things down after the two younguns start hair pulling. Cami admits she met “Antonio” in front of Eva’s house.

Marta brings the personnel files of the guys suspected of attacking Evencio and Enrique to Armando. Armando, always the dog, has a small lust after Marta. When he brings the files to Evencio, Evencio recognizes them by their speech and way of walking.

Marisol is disgusted with Betty and tells Pablo not to fall for these manipulations. Martín also tells his son not to do it.

Eva drives Camila and Adriana to Andy’s apartment. He comes out to get on his motorcyle. Eva tells Camila that that guy is Andrés Palacios, the brother of La Alacrana.

Rebeca is released for ratting some people out. She comes back in as a visitor and meets the now imprisoned evil guard. They vow to find Virginia and get revenge.

Rey visits Laila, who puts the moves on him

Marisol tells Pablo he’s a fool for being manipulated into marrying Betty. Said Betty demands a wedding dress, flowers, and Martín and Diego as guests. The OB says that’s not possible; they have to operate soon.

Camila is destroyed. She gets out of the car outside Andy’s apartment, believing Eva. But later she comes home to Eva and cries in her arms.

Eva tells Adriana she needs to stand by Cami.

Eva comes to the hospital after getting a message that Pablo is looking for her. The notary arrives for the wedding. We don’t see Eva really find out what’s going on, nor her eventual reaction.

Esclava 1/2

this was not a good day for Nicholas.

Victoria tells Milagros and Tomas, Miguel is alive, I saw him, Nicholas saved his life, but who did we bury, another slave Tomas figures, and they, like Miguel, wonder if Nicholas was behind the Eden fire, Lorenza only mentioned Morales and he could have worked for another, Tomas gives Victoria the painting of her family, Siervo got it, we have an ally in the house, (Tomas told him about Victoria).

Nicholas is in town, talking to the guys, the General wants a drink, the doctor takes him aside, Nicholas knows he wants to borrow more money, but he already owes too much.

Jaime is upset they can't hunt slaves anymore so he practices with his own, but just wounding them, this makes his dad angry, because it makes the them worth less.

as Nicholas stops for a drink, Miguel floats in to say high, Nicholas flips, Miguel wants justice, he didn't kill anyone, he's going to sue Jaime, wow, (if Miguel only knew that Nicholas was one of them and brought Rosa to the hunt and watched her die having Morales hang her from that tree) this totally twists up Nicholas,(what will he do now) on the road home he tells Morales, Miguel is back, he wants Morales to whip him till he is too weak, then take him to the coast where they will have him locked up, Morales says he can't, the death of the Quinteros haunts him, so Nicholas fires him on the spot, go and never come back, and he better keep quiet or Nicholas will skin him. (no severance pay?)

Nicholas looks around town for some support for his cause, but only finds Angela whom he gave money to buy her freedom. (her son was whipped to death after they kidnapped Victoria)

Nicholas returns to Eden alone, ah, the Doctor and son have been waiting for him, he forgot, Isabel says she is tired of keeping company with these fools.

Morales also comes back and tells Trinidad his hard luck story, is he drinking again, and sees a hooded lady going through the trees.

Miguel takes his case to the lawyers, Cata and Felipe, he wants to sue Jaime and has brought Angela as a witness, he wants justice, and after much talk and legal stuff, (weaved into the show) including "this has never been done before", he asks if they will help him, Felipe looks like a no, but Cata jumps in, says yes, and Felipe follows.

Nicholas and the Doctor, talk about this new loan, the doctor wants to throw in the wounded slave but Nicholas doesn't need anymore, but will lend him the money to make things right between them, when Trinidad comes running, Morales set his shack on fire, and as Nicholas comes running Morales starts babbling about setting the fire that killed the Quinteros but it was under Nicholas' orders, Milagros who's watching must not of heard, but apparently the doctor did, before Nicholas pulls Morales pistol and knocks him out with it, and has him carted off.

Esclava 2/2

meanwhile Jaime is up in Isabel's room being snotty as ever, saying she isn't normal, more normal than you Isabel says, indicating he only has one hand, and then talks him into sticking his finger into what we used to call chinese handcuffs, where your finger slides in easy but won't come out, and Jaime can't get it off,

back at the house the doctor lets Nicholas know he knows, as he refers to the debt past tense as what he owed, and then some about Jaime marrying Isabel, but this isn't in Nicholas plans, but there is commotion upstairs as Jaime is going nuts, the doctor runs in to rip the toy off, not so easy, Isabel walks up compressing it, and it slides right off, I think Victoria was amused, I know Isabel was.

Victoria and Milagros were working on Morales to get his confession about the fire but now what, and Reme gets to see another of Victoria's plans spin out of control.

Nicholas and the doctor take Morales to the hospital, oh man what is this place, and meet with the priest running it, "with gods help and people's money", as the doctor puts it, they pay him off, Morales is not to go out or talk to anyone, and we see Morales tied to a wheel that rolls him under a pool of water to drown, and then brings him back up gasping.

Victoria sits down with Siervo, he says she has the eyes of her mother, doesn't know why he didn't recognize her, she wants to know about Nicholas, well he saved me when they brought us back from the Palenque, but he is no saint.

Nicholas and the doctor have a drink at that stone bar on the water they keep showing, (this place is so neat), Nicholas says the baby died in the fire, the doctor brings up the white girl at the Palenque, (the slimy doctor is really winding his way into Nicholas' nightmares) so lets make a deal the doctor says, I forget about what Morales said and, (I didn't get the first part), was it to forgive the debt, and the second part, Jaime marries Isabel...

Esclava

Thanks for the recaps deb! I still need to catch up with this week's episodes this weekend. Now that El Hotel has finished, this is the only TN I'm watching.

I really hate Jaime. I hope Isabel doesn't get stuck with him! What's with everyone trying to get her to marry men who are more than twice her age? She's only 16, isn't she?

Eva. Excellent recap, novelera, all the high points! But por fa'! This ploy is getting old and has become almost too predictable! Pablo has something he really needs to tell Eva--in this case, Betty's demand that she marry him or she won't save the baby--but "circumstances" don't allow him to do so. He tries to call, she's not answering her phone, people don't know where she is, etc. Then--just by coincidence!-she walks in on the start of the thing he was trying to tell her about--in this case the arrival of the notario (justice of the peace) to perform Pablo and Betty's wedding. My first reaction was: Oh no! Not again! Pablo and the ob-gyns should have at least made an attempt to call Betty's bluff--or get her declared incompetent for endangering the life of a child. (he's a lawyer; he should be able to do that). In this episode I felt very sorry for Camila. At least Adri now knows that Camila wasn't trying to deceive them. She didn't know that Antonio was really Andy. And Virginia's life is now definitely in danger. Hope Rebeca gets foiled so that Virgi and Enrique can have their happily ever after. Astute observation about the young cute ob-gyn, dra. Ana, novelera. It seemed to me that when she told Pablo to go home and get a little rest that she held his hand just a tad too long!

Eva
Many thanks, novelera, for this very helpful recap. Fortunately I read it this afternoon right before I finally got to watch the episode. I don't think I could have managed to watch it all the way through if I hadn't already been warned about what was about to happen.

I suppose it's not all that unlikely that Betty will die VERY soon, either before, during, or right after the ceremony. But given the umpteenth failure of communication between Pablo and Eva, and given Eva's temperament, I'm expecting to see yet another breakup between Pablo and Eva even if the marriage with Betty never happens. Sigh. ¡Ya basta!

novelera, I agree with you and SpanProf that there were some definite signs of interest between the attractive young doctor and Pablo. And I suppose that with Eva furious and hurt over his agreeing to marry Betty, a relationship between the doctor and Pablo isn't out of the question. It's also the case that the video accompanying the theme song seems to show Eva leaving behind both Armando and Pablo and happily going on her own way by herself. So your suggestion that perhaps Eva will wind up "single and strong" is a definite possibility. But somehow, in my telenovela-cliche-ridden heart of hearts, I don't believe that will happen.

Esclava

Thanks once again, deb for another terrific recap. It's been hard for me to keep up with the novela this week, and I haven't seen last night's episode, so I'm extremely grateful for your willingness to do this. ¡Muchísimas gracias otra vez!

Esclava: Thanks deb for this superb recap. Poor Isa and the thing is she really has no say in deciding who she marries. I hate that slime ball Jaime. Nicolas gets no sympathy from me.

Eva

"Fabiola is the heroine of the night."
wow novelera, what a great comment on so many different levels.

I think Marisol is relieved about Pablo's decision, that will save her friend, although she admits Betty is crazy.

Betty has really got Pablo pegged, that he always keeps his word.

so fate has intervened keeping Pablo from talking to Eva, and was there anyone that agreed with his decision to marry Betty, ah, but his intentions are good and it involves his daughter who he has already named, but he really does need to let Eva go, and stop spreading Betty's insanity to others.

I'm glad they actually went over to Andy's to find out the truth instead of just reasoning it through, I forgot about that apartment being used by Sofia, it was right there on the steps where Soraya dropped Armando with her taser.

will Andy's love for Camila cause him to turn on Marlene? (seems disrespectful to use love and Andy in the same sentence)

is in-your-face Rey's mission to find an overlooked power-of-attorney from Sebastien to Federica, stashed some place in the house, and Leyla just happens to have a new opening for a lover, did he say she looks pretty with a black eye?

hmm, Rebecca ratting out the big guys, (and why doesn't that include Andy) was their some talk about her pay back from some nasty sounding guy? so all she has to do to find Virginia is to hang around the parole office.

and Eva's advice to Evencio, take the info on the guys who beat him up (that he got from Armando) to the police.

Eva's ex-husband Armando married to Marlene, and now her boyfriend Pablo soon to be married to Betty, there is no, 'this might just work'.

what are the odds someone in this story will get married in a church?

Eva

and thanks so much novelera for the recap!

Friday's show was 80.

Eva. Even though you think it probably won't happen, Juanita, if Pablo and dra. Ana end up together instead of Pablo and Eva, I'm giving you credit for it! I would never have made the connection with the theme song video!

Eva

Thanks, SpanProf, but I simply called attention to the theme song video. It was novelera who suggested at the start of Friday's recap that Pablo and doctora Ana were looking like a possible pairing.

Eva. Juanita: Yeah, but I'd noticed the slightly too long hand holding. :)
