Un Camino Hacia el Destino-Week 12 (May 9, 2016) First Half
We pick up the conversation between Dr. Javier and Fernanda where he left off in the prior episode. He was wondering why Carlos is trying so hard to get Fer to come back to him. He should be ashamed to face her after what he did to her. Fer explains that they thought Isabela was pregnant and Carlos didn’t want to leave her, but the pregnancy was all a lie.
Carlos now wants Fer to forgive him so they can be together again. Dr. Jay wants to know if she wants to. She says yes, he’s the love of her life, but she can’t just now because she doesn’t trust him. She’s lost her confidence in him. Jay doesn’t think he’s likely to deceive her again, but Fer says one never knows and then repeats the story of her mother keeping the secret for 19 years that she’s the daughter of another man and Pedro never knew that [but of course he does] and that Carlos’ mother just found out her husband has a mistress. She doesn’t want that for herself, living with distrust. She leaves him, pondering.
Carlos finds out from Dr. Marcos that someone named Isabela was nosing around and told Javier that she was Carlos’ novia. Carlos has to explain that he and Isy were novios at one time in the past, but he ended it. He doesn’t know why she’s going around telling people she’s still his novia. Marcos thanks him for clearing that up. Carlos assures him he loves Fernanda, even though they’ve had a quarrel.
Out at the hacienda, Camila overhears Blanca telling Old Fer that Mariana thinks she’s too old to take care of him any longer. There may be some truth, Blanca admits. Old Fer says Mariana may want to put him in a nursing home, but that’s not going to happen. She says Mariana wants to replace her with a younger person, a nurse. Camila takes that piece of information under advisement.
Camila has caught up with Fer at school and tells her about the great idea she had. Her stepmother is planning to hire a nurse to take care of her father and Cam thinks this is a great opportunity for Fer to earn some good money. Fer resists because Alzheimer patients need special care. Cam tries to convince her she won’t really be a nurse–nurse, more of a companion, to help him when he needs it and to take him for walks and make sure he doesn’t wander off. Fer asks if he isn’t Carlos’ patient. Camila says yes. Fer begs off for her own reasons—she remembers how poorly Old Fer treated her when she and Carlos came to visit. A good reason not to take the job, she tells Cam, is that Camila’s father didn’t think she was the right sort of person for Cam to hang out with. Cam says leave that to her.
Carlos and Jay meet outside Pedro’s room (Paco is along for some close-up head shots). Pedro will probably sleep until morning, so the two have a long conversation about Fernanda and Isabela. Jay wants to know which one is the REAL novia. Carlos thinks it’s presumptive of Jay to inquire into his personal life this way. He’s there to psychoanalyze Pedro and not delve into Fer’s life. Or does he have some other interest in her. Jay turns it around to make it sound as though it’s really a professional matter. Fer needs help, too, he says, even though she doesn’t recognize it herself. Ah, Carlos guesses sarcastically, in order to help her father, Jay has to look into Fer’s private life. Jay learned in medical school, that you can’t treat someone with depression in isolation, outside the family situation.
Carlos is getting a little hot under the collar now. He suggests Jay go and psychoanalyze Pedro’s sister, Rosaura. Jay wants to psychoanalyze Fer so she in turn can help her father. [Now it might be valuable to point out that psychoanalysis takes years and not a few weeks to accomplish. Maybe they should be using a different term for psychiatric help. In close-ups now, these two remind me of rutting moose fighting to win the right to “service” the female.] Jay points his moose antlers directly at Carlos. He’s sure Fernanda needs psychiatric help because the man she loved, the man she trusted, was going with another woman. Carlos takes exception to that statement and tells Jay he knows nothing about them, he doesn’t know what really happened. Jay says he does know and if Carlos really loves Fer, he would let Jay treat her. He excuses himself and leaves Carlos, his raw emotions written all over his face.
Mariana actually gets Old Fer to sign a document that is the new will. She thanks him.
Amelia unburdens herself on Blanca about her feelings for Pedro and Fernanda. Blanca tries to alleviate her guilt. She tells Blanca she’s known Mariana was in love with Luis and that is why Mariana always treated her so unkindly.
Pedro has a nightmare that Carlos is instrumental in reuniting Fernanda with Luis and urges her to come away with her real father, while Pedro helplessly begs her not to listen to them. Fer is torn between the father she loves and the man Carlos introduces as her *real* father. Pedro wakes up in a sweat and swears he’s not going to let Carlos get near Fernanda again for fear Luis will find her.
Carlos takes Paco home. He shows him his new room. Paco likes it. Then Carlos takes him to meet his mother. He dumps Paco on the sofa surprising Marissa when he hugs her and calls her abuela. Carlos says he never told her about his secret life. Broma, mom. Paco is a foundling and he wants to adopt him and they can live happily ever after, the two boys and the mom. She accepts the little bugger without question and gives him a hug.
Fernanda gets as frazzled as her mother used to, trying to serve the growing demand for quesadillas. Cesar comes by and offers to help, but Fer is afraid he’ll poison the clientele. Broma, man. Cesar starts to talk about the bank scene, which Lupe probably told him in great detail. He doesn’t understand why she won’t let Carlos help her. She repeats what she told Carlos. They finish up and put all the stuff away. Fer is off to her second *job.*
Pedro is awake and Dr. Jay comes in to talk to him. He’s ready and willing to work as soon as he gets out of the clinic to pay the bill. Jay says he’s not to worry about that. When Jay mentions that Carlos had dropped in to see him, Pedro expresses his concern. He won’t tell Jay why, but he gets almost apoplectic begging him not to permit Carlos to visit him. He doesn’t want Carlos near him OR his daughter. (Oh, no, more ammunition for Jay.) His daughter is alone out there, with no one to protect her. Jay needs to help him. He has to promise. Jay does, puzzled by his vehemence toward Carlos.
Next morning at breakfast, Paco is bathed and dressed in perfectly fitting clothes (maybe Marissa saved all of Carlos’ outgrown boyhood clothes). They tell him he won’t have to work for his keep. They talked about it last night and feel the best thing for Paco is to go to school. He resists the idea. They talk him into it. Clarita looks on, pleased.
Ignacio comes to see Amelia. Mariana intercepts Carmela before she can say anything about Amelia. Mariana tells him he’s out of luck. Amelia doesn’t want to have anything to do with anyone associated with her sordid past. He’d like to hear that from her. He can’t because she’s gone to Europe on a long trip. He doesn’t believe her. Mariana says why should she lie? He asks about Pedro and her daughter. The ban extends to them, too. Mariana tells him he’s wasting his time here. If he should see Amelia after she gets back, she’ll surely tell him the same thing.
Actually, Amelia is undergoing her first PT to help her walk again. Nana Blanca is with her, encouraging her. She is attended by all sorts of therapists, ranging from really cute, to ok. She’s loving the attention. You can tell by her smile and the up-close shot of her Cleopatra-style eye make-up. She’s decided that she can honor Fernanda’s and Pedro’s memory by regaining her mobility.
When they get back home, Old Fer welcomes her back. With Mariana and Hernán looking on, Blanca tells them soon she’ll be walking again. Old Fer says he’s so proud of her. Now she needs to get herself ready to go to the office. This will be her first day at the construction company. He reminds Hernán that someday Amelia will take her place as head of the company and her daughter will inherit everything. Camila joins the conversation and lets her step-grandfather know she’s found someone to care for him. A friend who needs a job. Mariana doesn’t like where this is going. She asks if this person is a trained nurse. Cam answers that no, and since Old Fer is not on his last legs, he doesn’t need a trained nurse to help him out. Even Hernán backs up Camila. Mariana tries to shut her down with the *we’ll get back to you* speech, but Old Fer thinks he should have a say in the decision.
Before anything can be settled, Lozórsano arrives unannounced and certainly unexpected. He’s a friend of Old Fer’s daughter (and it’s noted he’s in very good humor). They knew each other at university. He hopes he’s not interrupting anything, hehe.
Isabela is stacking and beating her towels at the spa, not very lovingly. She turns around and there is Carlos. Is he real or a figment of her imagination. She calls him mi amor. She blathers on saying she knows why he’s here. He’s renounced the schoolgirl and is ready for a return trip to Frizzy Lalaland. He turns away when she tries to kiss him. So, he’s real. He’s there to tell her to quit telling people they are novios. It’s a lie and she knows it. She knows very well he’s in love with Fernanda and she’s the love of his life.
Isy points out he deceived Fer. He admits he deceived Isy, too, but he’s asked her a thousand times to forgive him. Isy says just because he’s asked doesn’t mean she’s forgiven him. Just the name of Fernanda being the love of his life rubs salt in her wound. He admits he could have been a bit more tactful. But he wants to leave things in peace. Carlos walks out, but Isy’s face indicates she has no intention of leaving anything in peace.
Lucero catches up with Camila who is still trying to digest the scene she just witnessed with her step-mother and this supposed friend. She’s not going to believe they have anything good to talk about. Now it’s Blanca and Old Fer who are wondering the same thing. Hernán didn’t seem worried and went off with Amelia unbothered to the office. Blanca is taken by surprise when Old Fer mentions he signed some papers for Mariana. It was an authorization for Amelia to act in his stead until his granddaughter shows up. He assures Blanca he knew what he was signing. Blanca walks away to finish her stuffed picadillo wrap and thinks to herself that nothing Mariana does is in Old Fer’s or Amelia’s favor.
Meanwhile, Lozórsano and Mariana are having not such a terrific college reunion in the study. Mariana tells him to quit threatening her to extort the $1 million. She doesn’t have that kind of money. And he’d be cutting off his nose despite his face to squeal on her to Old Fer, because once that happens, the money well dries up and he gets nothing. She offers something more reasonable, 50,000 Pesos. He laughs. How about a first payment of, say, $100,000 USD. That’s his final offer, or he goes to Old Fer and tells him what a harpy he has for a daughter.

Kendra--Your comment came too late for me to thank you for it. I missed you and hope you and your family had a wonderful time. But now it's time to get back to Un Camino, no?
"In close-ups now, these two remind me of rutting moose fighting to win the right to “service” the femal" and "He’s renounced the schoolgirl and is ready for a return trip to Frizzy Lalaland" were among many favorites.
I was watching Carlos' and Jay's verbal ping pong match with great interest. Of course, I didn't know what was being said until you captured it here. "Carlos thinks it’s presumptive of Jay to inquire into his personal life this way. He’s there to psychoanalyze Pedro and not delve into Fer’s life. Or does he have some other interest in her". Yes, perfectly reasonable Carlos!
Then, "Jay turns it around to make it sound as though it’s really a professional matter. Fer needs help, too, he says, even though she doesn’t recognize it herself". Hmm, well, I have to admit that sounds logical.
"Ah, Carlos guesses sarcastically, in order to help her father, Jay has to look into Fer’s private life". Ooooh, well, yes...then "Jay learned in medical school, that you can’t treat someone with depression in isolation, outside the family situation". That also seems legit.
Rational statements from both. While I'm swayed by Jay's assertion you should look at the family as a whole in order to treat Pedro, a part, I would feel better if I thought he did not have a personal interest in Fernanda. Which of course he does.
And then, Pedro pipes up with "Jay needs to help him. He has to promise. Jay does, puzzled by his vehemence toward Carlos". Jay has done nothing wrong (as of now) but Carlos' rather crazed plea will certainly motivate him to push forward even more.
I wonder if the actress playing Blanca has it in her contract she must have plenty of delightful treats to snack on during all her scenes? I love the actress too - she is fabulous. "Blanca walks away to finish her stuffed picadillo wrap and thinks to herself that nothing Mariana does is in Old Fer’s or Amelia’s favor". She is obviously eating food that enhances her brain functions as she is spot on. Now, can she do anything about it?
Hoping Ignacio is too bright to be deterred by Marian's lies that Amelia is abroad. Selfishly, I want him to find her so Pedro can get busy healing and wooing Marissa! ;)
"She tells Blanca she’s known Mariana was in love with Luis". OK, this was a shock to me. I didn't realize Amelia knew how Mariana felt about Luis (I missed much early on so...).
I could go on and on. Love the show but the recaps even more.
dy77, so glad you commented! A warm welcome. The first comment is always the hardest. Hope you continue to post. We are a small but loyal group here...
Anita, you are the best!
Diana
I see such kindness and caring in his face. I mean, being handsome doesn't hurt but he seems to have a beautiful spirit and to me that is everything.
Diana
And I meant to ask if Lozórsano is out of his mind?? Of course he is. What was he thinking?? I suspect he is not long for this world...
Diana
yea dy77 come on out. I lurked for over a year until I posted and now can't shut up.
We know and Carlos knows Javier is interested in Fernanda, what guy wouldn't, and his inquiry about her relationship is not professional. However, as a sympathetic ear, Javier is exactly what Fernanda desperately needs. Well meaning as Carlos is he can't really provide an outlet since he contributed to her world crashing. He listens and I believe knows he hurt her and is sorry but his retort is always how much longer before she gets over it.
She hasn't said anything but there is more here than leaving Isabela before starting a relationship with naive Fernanda. Yes, Isabela lied about the pregnancy but Carlos was having unprotected sex with her and maintains the relationship was not serious and was months not years old. Why wouldn't Fernanda, way back in her mind, worry Carlos may do the same with her? Sleep with her for a few months, let her assume marriage a possibility and dump her for another schoolgirl.
It is just weird Carlos now has an urchin in tow. Weird
Great idea Camila, press it.
Amelia is out of her mind. Her struggle to walk again is not for dead Pedro and Fernanda. Please.
Hi, dy77, and welcome to our little corner. Hope you enjoy it here, and that you share your feelings and observations with us often.
Although everything Jay said sounded legit, I do not trust the guy. For one thing, he should have recognized that Pedro's fixation on Carlos was not a normal, healthy response, and should have explored the reasons why he feels this way. Instead, he takes it as something he can use against Carlos, and runs with that. I see many more subtle things he will twist or outright lie about to drive a wedge between Carlos and Fer.
I would love it if Fer took the job as nanny for don Fer. Man, that would stir up the pot so much at the hacienda that it would be non-stop drama. She could even be the one who finds out how duplicitous Mariana is being, and give don Fer the evidence. As we have stated before, Mariana doesn't consider whether her lies are reasonable and defensible, she just blurts them out. She will be caught eventually.
The dementia that don Fer is experiencing is complicated and frightening. They have so far treated the situation with respect.
Diana, I totally agree, there is a cemetery plot somewhere with Lozorsano's name on it.
Thanks again, Anita.
David
David, yes, Fer and the don's caretaker would be awesome! Someone has to out Mariana and I can think of no one better.
I hope that Ana Patricia (Mariana) and Gustavo (Fer) are having fun working together. I'm having a ball watching them. As real life daughter/father, I enjoy their sparring and Mariana's cruel ministrations. Hopefully they have a laugh after filming each day.
Diana
Now, it seems that Pedro has a dilemma. It seems he is inadvertently
Keeping baby girl and Carlos apart and pushing doc tight pants into her direction. Not good. He wants to protect her, but pops don't have all the imfo, I wish he'd talk to someone in the know. Liars seem to be front and center causing trouble for everyone that's in the dark. Somebody turn a light so they can see,cuz all this blindness is ridiculous.
I'm glad Carlos is going to adopt that kid. I can't think of his name right now. But old bottomfeeder might cause troubles in the adoption process, Him and that hairy leech.
That would be some kind of cool if fer could be the one to look after her gramps. But not if her evil tia finds out about it. this show is all over the place it could settle anywhere right now and so much stuff going on. Lookin forward to the happy endings.
Hope you're HappyMothers Amita.
Luis is a bottom feeder of the worst kind. He'll eat anything. He has certainly been feeding from Marissa's trough long enough.
Thank you for the Mothers Day greeting. And to all of you, too, including David. Vivi and JudyB had such a sweet sentiment over on Hotel. Although their sentiments were directed at all women, we all of us have mothered someone in our lives, so it's OUR day.
Here's a special shout out to Mike and Emilia who need extra hugs today. Love you both, Anita
And yes, Anita, somber but hopeful hugs to Mike and Emilia.
David
Although, I haven't watched, your recap described it vividly. My favorite: (He’s renounced the schoolgirl and is ready for a return trip to Frizzy Lalaland) had me cracking up! I can't wait to watch.
I agree, Carlos is all kinds of dreamy...and a doctor?!! How could you go wrong? Pedro cracked me up talking about Fer has doctor's, engineers, lawyers, pilots, busboy's, and poets vying for her attention. (well, maybe I made a couple of those up)
Welcome dy77!
Thanks David and Happy Mother's Day from me too!
Still at the hacienda de Old Fer, Mariana knows Lozórsano has her over a barrel (of laughs) but she continues to threaten him about ever showing up again at their house. She’ll have the money for him the next day and they agree to meet at the café where they have met before. After he leaves and Mariana emerges from the study, she’s greeted by a curious father and Blanca. She’s so steaming mad at Lozórsano she takes it out on them when they want to know what they were going on about. She yells it’s none of their business, she’s an adult and doesn’t need to explain. Papa Fer says as long as she’s living in his house she has to answer to him. She reminds him it’s HER house, too. Anyway, she gets to keep her dealings secret even when Blanca challenges her about the documents she made Old Fer sign. They have quite a row with Mariana doing most of the screeching over Blanca’s position in the human social hierarchy. Blanca gets the last word in—Mariana had better be careful, as long as Old Fer is alive, Blanca isn’t going to let anything hurt Amelia.
Fernanda has come for her regular visit to Pedro. He’s so happy to see her. Well, at first, anyway. He asks if he’s heard anything about Amelia. No, she has no information. She wants to talk about Carlos. She knows he doesn’t want her to go back to him, but doesn’t he understand the love she feels for Carlos is real. Pedro says he doesn’t accept that. Fer tells him he sounds like Amelia, rejecting Carlos outright. He tells her it’s better for her. She doesn’t agree. She tells him he doesn’t know what she feels in her heart. He says he knows because he’s her father. She just wanted him to listen to her. Fer says he can tell her a thousand times not to see Carlos, but he’s the love of her life. She loves him. It not easy to just forget him. She doesn’t understand his position after all Carlos did to save the lives of all three of them. He won’t elaborate. He just tells her he’s her father and he knows best.
Someone has called Sister Rosaura. We only hear that it must be serious from her tone and that it affects Fer and not in a good way. Sor Sonrisa can see she’s preoccupied and sad. Rosaura needs to go see Fer.
Hernán is showing Amelia one of their latest construction projects. Hernán is silently thinking what a nuisance Amelia will be to work with, especially when she wants to meet with all the employees to see what their needs might be. (And when has Amelia ever cared about the needs of others, including her clients at the quesadilla stand?) He’d love it if a big rock fell on her to shut her up, but she’d probably keep right on talking.
Marissa has stopped by to visit Carlos at the hospital. Little Paco has raised her spirits and she feels like getting back into life. He hopes she won’t fall into her sadness again, or let Luis ruin her life. She tells him Ordoñez has clued her in to all the possibilities that Luis has to take everything. Carlos reminds her, the house, too. Marissa says that he can’t, because the house belongs to Carlos. He tells her it is *their* house, his and hers.
Luis has just finished raiding an up-scale men’s clothing store. He has bunches of things picked out, but unfortunately, none of his credit cards will work. In an angry snit, he calls the bank to find out the card holder has cancelled them. (Way to go Marissa! Now just don’t let him eat your groceries or make Clarita clean his room or do his laundry.)
Mariana has come to see Luis in his office, but he’s still out dealing with his no-credit cards. When he does arrive, he barges past the two women without even speaking or acknowledging them. Mariana follows him in. He’s probably been trying to call Marissa a million times. We hear him getting her voice mail. He curses the heck out of her. He calls Clarita. She tells him the señora is out. He calls the bank. Lupe answers and with a sly smile and Iggy looking on, tells Luis Marissa hasn’t arrived yet. Mariana is amused Luis can’t find his wife. Luis says he’ll teach that witch a lesson she won’t forget.
He’s furious that after all those years of marriage, she has the nerve to treat him like that. She’s an ungrateful bitch. He’s going to ruin her and he’s going to do it through that which she loves the most, her son. Mariana seems to approve of that approach. Carlos has no idea what he’s preparing for him. Oooh, Mariana thinks she should be scared. Broma, man, after all, they're friends. Well, Luis states the obvious, no, they're not friends, in fact, the relationship between him and Mariana changes from now on. She can’t blackmail him by threatening to tell his wife anything (because she already knows all, hehe). Mariana says she’s not there to talk about that. She has Old Fer’s signed testament. She’s ready for the next step, tapping into his bank accounts. She needs to get a loan asap. Luis laughs at her. What he signed was not a power of attorney, it was a simple will. She has to wait until he dies to get at his money. (Oh, dear, I fear for Old Fer’s life now. But so far Mariana is batting zero on the murder scorecard. Mariana can’t wait because of Lozórsano’s threats.
Fer is sitting at the old home site, checking the want-ads. (Ah, those were the days of pavement pounding—before networking, LinkedIn and e-mail.) Carlos calls out to her, Fer mi amor. They still need to talk. He asks her to listen to him. She doesn’t see the point. They are on two different paths. Carlos wants to know if her path is the one with Pedro’s psychiatrist. He’s upset that she confided in Dr. Javier and shared a lot of personal information about him and their relationship. She says he’s crazy. Carlos says, yes, he’s crazy with jealousy. Fer says she only told him the truth about how and why their relationship ended because of Isabela saying she was Carlos’ novia when Jay asked her about it. Carlos says it is not his fault that Isabela was going around saying what she was saying. Fer doesn’t think Carlos has the right to come and complain about what she tells a doctor. Carlos tells her she’s being manipulated and Jay will use any information she gives him to separate the two of them. She can’t believe he’s jealous because of that. Yes, he replies, he’s jealous, because that man is in love with her. Fer looks at him in total disbelief.
She says he’s mistaken. Jay is only trying to help her, the way he’s helping Pedro. Carlos wants to open her eyes to the fact the man has been interested in her since the day he arrived at the hospital. He could tell by the way he looked at her. She still can’t believe him. Dr. Farias is a professional, who was recommended by Carlos himself. Yes, and Carlos is sorry he did. Fer now thinks he’s trying to blame someone else for her not wanting to get back together with him, when it’s his own lies that broke them up. Carlos wants to know when is she going to forgive him for that—until the doctor wins her?
Fer says she’s not stupid, she’s not going to let anyone manipulate her. And if she does, it’s not his problem. She tells him to leave her in peace. She tries to pass by him, but he holds her back. He says he won’t leave her in peace until the day she tells him she doesn’t love him anymore. There’s that word again, love, Fer says. Carlos moves closer to her. Their foreheads are touching. He says she loves him, as much as he loves her. Their theme song begins and he bends down to reach her lips. She doesn’t hesitate to accept his kiss and they are kissing lovingly, when Sister Rosaura interrupts. She’s thinking of Pedro’s words to not to let Carlos near Fer. They break apart.
So, says Rosaura, this is the way to work to pay off Pedro’s clinic bill? Carlos tries to step in and tell her how much they love each other. Rosaura tells him sharply she’s not speaking to him. But, Carlos says, he is speaking to her, they love each other. Fer breaks in. She’ll explain. Ros says there’s nothing to explain. It was plainly evident. Carlos tries again. They are going through some bad moments, but they love each other and Rosaura knows it. Yes, says the Sister, she knows that, but she also knows they ended their relationship when it was revealed he had another novia. Yes, that’s an error he’s trying to correct. Still, says Rosaura, he should not be taking advantage of a moment of weakness in Fer to kiss her like that. Fer says he wasn’t taking advantage of her. Well, then, adds Rosaura, if they want to see each other, Carlos should come visit her when there are others present, as a decent young man should. Now, she asks him to leave because she and Fer need to talk. Carlos kisses Fer’s forehead and leaves.
Dr. Jay approaches Pedro and sees him still anxious. Pedro says his anxiety has a name. Fernanda Perez, says Jay. Pedro worries about the dangers his daughter is exposed to while he’s locked in here. She’s at risk as long as Carlos is on the loose. He reminds Jay he promised to help keep Carlos away from Fer. That will go a long way to reducing his anxiety, better than any pills.
Jay continues his conversation with Pedro about Fernanda and Carlos. He doesn’t think Fer is so innocent and gullible to let him back in her life. Pedro contradicts him. Fer is still an innocent girl, coddled, spoiled and surrounded by nuns all her life. She knows nothing of the world outside, the cruelty of people. He saw how she cried and suffered over the deceit of her first love and his cheating ways, his false words of love. So, Jay figures out, Pedro doesn’t like Carlos. No, he doesn’t. He hurt the most precious thing he has in the world. Carlos fixed his sights on her in order to take advantage of her innocence, exactly like his father took advantage of Amelia. [If Jay is smart and picks up on Pedro’s using the term “his father,” he will deduce either that Pedro knows Fer is not his daughter or more likely that Carlos and Fer are half-siblings.] Jay is left pondering.
He doesn’t ponder long. He comes back toward Pedro and wants to know what he means by the father of Carlos took advantage of Fer’s mother, Amelia. Did his wife know Carlos’ father? Pedro nods yes (even though he now knows this is probably not so, or the truth easily verified). Pedro continues, they were novios when they were young. Jay had no idea. He needs Pedro to tell him everything that has been affecting him, as his patient. Pedro, calmly, but as angry as he’s been for awhile says that yes, Carlos’ father made a fool of Amelia, just as Carlos is doing to his daughter. They are both cut from the same cloth--father and son. Jay probes further, why did Carlos’ father abuse Amelia. Pedro says because the man is the worst kind of bottom feeder [thanks, Nina]. Pedro says how much he loved Amelia, she was a goddess to him, but that man made her suffer. Jay has another question. Is that the man Amelia wanted the divorce for? Did that man abandon Amelia? Pedro is no longer talking.
Fer is trying to explain the kiss to Rosaura. When one loves someone so much, there are moments of weakness. Fer doesn’t think she understands, being a nun and all. Rosaura says her habit doesn’t change the fact she’s a woman. She does understand. Fer shouldn’t fight her heart. If she desires to go back to Carlos, she should. That’s not what Fer is trying to say. But, what was it Rosaura wanted to tell her. Ros says it’s bad news. The school directors don’t want a freeloader, non-student in the school, eating their food, using their hot water, flushing their toilets. They’ve asked Rosaura to evict Fer. Ros has no other option than to leave her out in the ruins of their cottage, alone, in a tent, cooking over an open fire and washing dishes in a pan of water (Whaaat?) And Fer goes along with it. She knows it’s not Ros’ fault she’s in this situation, it’s hers. She says she’ll be fine.
Old Fer sees Camila come in the hacienda and asks her to tell him about that friend of hers who was looking for work taking care of him. He seems delighted by Camila’s friend’s glowing qualifications. Camila adds that she really needs the job, because her mother abandoned her and her father is interned in a psychiatric clinic. She looking for employment to pay for her father’s treatment. Old Fer asks her to bring the girl out. Old Fer wants to help her out. Blanca is happy with his decision.
Licenciado Ordoñez has come to check on Marissa. She says she’s ready to fight and stay ahead of anything Luis does to keep him from taking everything she has. He’s happy to see her so firm in her convictions and ready to take action. She says Luis has probably already found out she cancelled his credit cards, so now they need to work out the details of the final blow she’s planning for Luis. Iggy has drawn up a list of all her properties, some at risk. Marissa wants to know about the law office. He assures her that at that very moment, the notario should be paying Luis a visit.
Alicia interrupts Luis and Mariana to tell Luis there is a notario to see him. [Remember, notarios in Mexico do a lot more than notaries in the U.S. They are actually attorneys that take care of a lot of legal business.] The man tells a stunned Luis that he’s there to inform him that he’s being evicted from the property. The owner has decided not to let him practice any longer from her property. Luis protests, the owner is his wife, how can she do this to him? The answer is she has every right, since the property is in her name only. He gives Luis until tomorrow to fix things with his wife. Otherwise, he’ll be back with a signed judgment to carry out the order.
Adelina (formerly known as Avelina) is at the same clinic as Pedro. Sor Sonrisa and one of the other nuns are accompanied by Lucero, Camila, Carolina and the other two Mean Girls. They’ve come to visit. Carolina steps forward to offer an apology. She apparently didn’t know bulimia was such a serious disease. Adelina brushes it off, she did this to herself, no one forced her.
José and Cesar have come to visit Pedro. They surprise him, but he has big hugs for the two of them. Cesar gives him a plant and suggests he not talk to it while he’s there. Cesar wants him to hurry up and get out of there because he and Clarita are getting married and he wants Pedro to be his padrino de boda. Jay watches the reunion of compañeros and says he can see Pedro is a man full of secrets. He needs to cure Pedro soon, because he promised Pedro’s daughter. Then this beatific smile (or is it predatory) comes over him as he thinks of Fernanda, the sweetest, most beautiful girl he’s ever known.
Carlos gets to the hospital to learn he has no patients to see, but Old Fer wants to see him. He runs into Marcos who asks about Pedro. Carlos is somewhat puzzled because he went to see him, but Dr. Jay would not permit him to see Pedro. Marcos wonders if he authorized a prohibition. Carlos doesn’t think so, but intuition tells him Jay doesn’t want him to see Pedro. He suspects him of mixing the professional with the personal. He sure he’s taking advantage of a time when Fer needs him (Jay), to take her away from him (Carlos). Marcos thinks Carlos is letting his jealousy run away with him. He knows Jay to be a most ethical doctor. Carlos comes back with Marcos knows him very well, too, and he’s not imagining things. He’s convinced Jay is manipulating Fer to put her against him.
Jay is contemplating Pedro’s negative characterization of Carlos. He’s trying to figure out what it has to do with Carlos’ father and Amelia. Aha! He gets it. The father who doesn’t know about Fernanda could possibly be Carlos’ father. He’s interrupted from thinking about it any longer by the arrival of Fernanda with Sister Rosaura in tow. Rosaura leaves them to talk while she goes to visit her brother.
Meanwhile, Carlos has gone out to the hacienda to visit Old Fer. He’s in complete agreement that he doesn’t need a nurse, he needs a companion. Back at the hospital Carlos has a meeting with Marcos about the pills prescribed for Old Fer, who complains they make him very sleepy. Marcos thinks it a bit strange. Is he taking any other medicine? Carlos says no, his daughter is in charge of giving him his medicine. Marcos thinks it’s too early to tell, but will look into it. In the meantime, Old Fer should keep taking them. Now it is Carlos’ turn to think of Fernanda--and the kiss. He knows Fer loves him and he promises himself that Dr. Jay is not going to take Fer away from him.
Fernanda wants to know what’s going on between him and Carlos. Fer says Carlos came to complain about things she told Jay. Did they have an argument, or what? Jay says he merely commented on Isabela and Carlos got very angry and told him not to mess in his life nor in hers. Fer (ay, Fer, sometimes you talk too much) says to Jay that Carlos is very jealous and thinks Jay is manipulating her. He denies it, because his professional ethics would not allow it. However, Pedro does have something against Carlos. He got very agitated when he learned Carlos had come to see him and his pressure went up. Pedro finally confessed to Jay that he’s certain Carlos wants to hurt her. Fer defends him. Carlos is not a bad person, he’d never try to endanger her. Jay says that’s what he said to Pedro, but that did not calm him down. Her father does not want Carlos near her. Fer understands somewhat. Her father saw her suffering during the Isabela affair. But Carlos has always been good to them—he saved their lives, all three of them at one time or another. Jay says Pedro doesn’t think Carlos is the right person for Fer. She laughs at all the opinions flying around, including that Dr. Jay is in love with her.
This is the first time I heard Old Fer mention that the pills were making him sleepy. It has to be Mariana changing the medicine or the dosage. Can't wait to find out. Lordy I hope Old Fer makes it to the end.
Blanca must have served the family with utter good will and faith for her entire life to get away with confronting Mariana the way that she does. Her stature in the family seems rock solid. On the other hand, it seems to me that Mariana has been a bit of a problem since she was a child, and Blanca has her number.
When Hernan was showing Amelia the construction site, he looked like he would like nothing better than to roll her wheel chair off the cliff.
Marissa is a person who, although she is going through a rough patch in her life right now, is basically a person who is comfortable in her life station, and is thus able to interact with a variety of people in different social strata in a kind and empathetic way. Luis is a snob, lording his position over others because he is insecure in his station. Pedro is a "reverse snob." a guy that doesn't have much, but is fearful of losing what he has.
Dr. Jay has finally come up against the realization that his personal desires and his sworn ethics are in conflict. I think he will not behave in a way that will uphold his professional ethics.
I really hope that Fer takes the position of nanny for don Fer. I can see all kinds of trouble spilling over from that.
Thanks again, Anita. You just keep cranking out these great recaps.
David
Your incredible detail and perfect rendering of all of the events and conversations was just marvelous.
"(Way to go Marissa! Now just don’t let him eat your groceries or make Clarita clean his room or do his laundry)", "(Ah, those were the days of pavement pounding—before networking, LinkedIn and e-mail) and "Ros has no other option than to leave her out in the ruins of their cottage, alone, in a tent, cooking over an open fire and washing dishes in a pan of water (Whaaat?) And Fer goes along with it" were among my favorites.
Ros, who has always been one of my favorites has been a bit disappointing. She knows Pedro has some serious issues and she needs to separate fact from fiction. She is a smart woman and needs to figure out why Pedro is so determined to keep Fer and Carlos apart. She darn well knows Carlos is kind and caring and obviously in love with her niece.
"Then this beatific smile (or is it predatory) comes over him as he thinks of Fernanda, the sweetest, most beautiful girl he’s ever known". Ummm, now I love Brandon, but I would have to vote for the latter. He is besotted by Fernanda fever (famously claiming every handsome young man within miles) for which there may be no cure.
I loved Luis being foiled! It was sickening watch him pull every expensive garment from its hanger in an attempt to decrease Marissa's assets as quickly as possible. And now he's evicted! I am a fan of Licenciado Ordonez and think he will be perfect for Amelia (once she seriously repents of course).
So Mariana doesn't have power of attorney. As you noted Anita, she hasn't crossed the line and murdered anyone. Yet. Like you, I desperately want Old Fer to make it to the end. God bless Blanca for standing up to Mariana.
David, I did wonder for a moment as well if Hernan was going to throw Amelia off the precipice! He certainly wanted to, didn't he?
I love this show and can't wait to see what happens tonight. Anita, thank you so much for bringing this to life each night so vividly for all of us! It (and you) are so appreciated!
Diana
I enjoyed Luis squirming so much last night. That guy is vile! I am totally team Marissa in this divorce and I'm glad she came out of her funk and took care of making sure he was cut off financially.
Javier sure enjoyed all the Fer/Carlos gossip that came his way last night. A little too much. I'm betting he is not really Dr. Professional Ethics, but we'll see.
My Spanish is definitely beginner level so I do miss things, especially when Carlos and Fer talk rapidly. So I had not completely understood their conversation and really appreciate this recap. The kiss was definitely easy to understand. I also missed that Fer was evicted. While I get why, I like to think that a bunch of nuns would have looked into some new temporary housing for her.
Yes, I am cringing at the sisters insensitivity toward Fernanda, particularly in view of the fact Rosaura is her aunt. As a Catholic, we were always taught the virtues of charity. Charity begins at home sisters. Really.
Diana
I've lost my civility watching these things. I yelled push her off as Hernan and Amelia viewed the work site.
Whenever Fernanda and Carlos have a chat it's clear Carlos is the child and Fernanda the adult.
Luis is dumb as a box of rocks but I'm on the fence. Could he actually be dumber than Pedro?
Pedro is starting to make me mad. He's not trying to protect Fernanda from knowing about Luis, he is doing this for himself.
David: "Luis is a snob, lording his position over others because he is insecure in his station. Pedro is a "reverse snob." a guy that doesn't have much, but is fearful of losing what he has." This was a perfect description of Pedro. He's always so self-deprecating, almost to the point of being painful, especially with Marissa--as though he doesn't deserve any kindness. The effect on Marissa is having to constantly build him up with encouragement and praise. The poor guy is starved for affection, but doesn't know how to accept it.
Fer's actions are almost the same as her father's. She doesn't want ANY favors or any kindness or help from anyone. She's SuperGirl and can do it all herself. This will make Carlos' efforts more difficult to convince her he wants to be there for her and that often means accepting his help.
Tofie--In the same vein, you are right when you say, "Whenever Fernanda and Carlos have a chat it's clear Carlos is the child and Fernanda the adult." I want to give him the benefit of the doubt (because I'm in his corner). He has a one-track mind regarding Fernanda. He wants to clear his name and restore his reputation with her and he's trying too hard. On the other hand, if he *does* leave her alone, he runs the risk of drifting apart and losing her to any young galan who makes a play for her. It just so happens Dr. Javier is the one on the scene. Where is Felipe anyway? He seemed a good rival and was ready to use underhanded means to gain Fer's confidence. I guess he got a better job in a different telenovela.
Dy77--"While I get why, I like to think that a bunch of nuns would have looked into some new temporary housing for her." AND Diana, "Yes, I am cringing at the sisters insensitivity toward Fernanda, particularly in view of the fact Rosaura is her aunt. As a Catholic, we were always taught the virtues of charity."
There has to be a reason why leaving Fer out in the woods is important. OTOH, maybe it's not. Mme Latoodle seems to love "mujeres salvajes" dressed in rags, living in huts that catch fire while wealthy people live it up in their mansions with servants, afternoon drinks and poolside parties. Is it one of her "signature" features? We'll have to look for it in the future, eh?
Dy77--"The kiss was definitely easy to understand." I was so mad at Rosaura for interrupting that kiss. It should have lasted a few seconds longer, enough time for Fer's arms to wrap around Carlos. At least he knows she still has very strong feelings for him.
David--Hernan is certainly the smarter of the pair. I'm sure he realized that he and Amelia are by themselves, out in the open. It would be very suspicious if she were suddenly to roll over the embankment. So he keeps his murderous thoughts to himself. I did leave out one phrase he bubble-thought, that he hoped Mariana does her job right, or, it is all up to Mariana now. Something like that. He's trying to preserve the inheritance Mariana is trying to swindle out of Old Fer. I guess he wouldn't be able to do that from prison.
Tofie--You get the last word, "Luis is dumb as a box of rocks but I'm on the fence. Could he actually be dumber than Pedro?" He's like Mariana and her lies. She just blurts them out. Luis acts on impulse and he's finding out impulse can kick him in the ass. Just ask Andrea. I sure hope we get to see more of her feisty self.
Don't like that.
Now if fer goes to work being granpa's companion, there will all kinds of mess. And
More screechin from tia mariana.
Horrible hernin looked like he was ready to push amelia and wheelchair off the cliff. She better hurry up and start walkin.
So glad marissa is stickin it to that lowlife bottomfeeder (thank you anita) :-). He was so embarrassed. Serves him right. Jerk. Hes going after carlos now. I fear for little paco, is
That his name? He (luis) will probably mess
With the adoption process. That dog wants to hurt carlos to hurt marissa. That would do it. And hurt that little boy. What a nasty man.
Good recap nitagirl. :-D
I got to finally catch up and Paco - ok, I'm loving his spot in this TN. Everything is so serious (love, faith, jealousy, revenge, evil, hate, sickness (bulimia, mental illness, alzheimers, paralysis), etc.) that his jokes are the bright spot that I didn't realize that I needed until he arrived.
I just knew Luis was going to be in for a surprise because why else show him buying up the store. It was still delicious to watch.
David - I agree, I hope she gets the job because what in the hell kind of craziness is going to happen with that scenario.
tofie - "I yelled push her off as Hernan and Amelia viewed the work site"...so did I! And Pedro is getting on my nerves too with his attempts of keeping Fer from Carlos because he's like the father that you think has influence over him. It's so selfish and reeks of jealousy and desperation. Also, how do you ask a total stranger to keep them apart. A doctor who has no idea of how to keep them apart. How does he do that? He doesn't know them, really so how?
Also, how is he still wondering about Amelia? UGH! You are testing my patience.
Amelia, no matter how much she is crying over Fer and Pedro and her claims of getting better "for them" that she keeps spitting out of her mouth, I have yet to feel sorry for her and believe in her redemption. Normally bad characters who turn themselves around make me upset because I want to still be made at them, but they are so good or, at least, better than they were before. I have not come close to feeling that way about Amelia. I just roll my eyes at her claims of love and missing them. It is not working for me. I'm not buying it here, so sell it to someone else.
And yeah again. What happen to the help and compassion of christ in these people. Aren't
They suppose to be helping people when they're down? Wheres the christian love and
Sopport?. Im surprised at them. Well......ok.
You and Mike have been in our thoughts and prayers.
Looking forward to having you back soon.
Diana
Kendra--"Also, how do you ask a total stranger to keep them apart. A doctor who has no idea of how to keep them apart. How does he do that? He doesn't know them, really so how?" Of course he can't, but in Javier's mind, Pedro is giving him the green light to go after Fer. I hope Jay stays conflicted by Fer's declarations of love for Carlos. I would hope when he learns they are not half-siblings (and that should be easy enough, just ask Carlos or Marissa) he will back off. He knows Carlos is not a danger to Fer but it should probably be at the top of his list of things they need to "analyze," his absolute dislike of Carlos.
Also, referring to Amelia's whereabouts. Why hasn't Pedro considered checking with Blanca at the hacienda. Right now he's probably not allowed phone calls, but he could have Jay or Fer check. Ah, I just realized, he doesn't want Fer to have anything to do with the folks at the hacienda, so unless he checks it out himself, he's not going to ask the other two. Once he learns where she is, will he tell Fer?
If she does take the job with Old Fer, what will Pedro say to THAT?
Nina--Felipe went to Barcelona. (Horacio and Rene are both from Argentina, but probably won't go back there for a visit until Camino is over.)
When Nina asked did Felipe go to Argentina, I laughed because i was remembering (was it NovelaMaven) who recapped PyP and that was where Franco said Marintia went so it became the reference for suspected deaths in the grand final...but no it was a real question lol!
Pedro does want to see Amelia again, probably to beg her to come back and things will be different. Sorry, Pedro, but that boat has sailed! Still, I can understand his wanting to know where she is. But then why would Fer know anything. Amelia was just as adamant in telling Fer she was dead to her, too.
So, my question stands, why didn't he check with the hacienda before he went berserk? I think it's the writers doing it to him. They have to keep all these folks apart as long as they can so they don't find out their true relationships too early.
Fernanda continues to charm another doctor. She doesn’t want Jay and Carlos fighting. He agrees and she leaves to see her father, while Dr. Jay sighs to himself. Sister Rosaura is telling Pedro the bad news that Fer is going to have to vacate the school premises. Pedro is worried, naturally. Her bedroom is still intact, but the rest of the house is not habitable and she’d be all alone out there, at risk (of you know who). Rosaura assures him she will be vigilant and will check on her every day.
Carlos takes leave of his hospital and Graciela to go pick up Paco—does she remember the little boy he ran over, well didn’t actually run over? He’s going to adopt him. He’ll explain later. He’s so upbeat he’s whistling a little tune. It goes sour when he hears a familiar voice behind him. It’s Luis come to hector him about getting what he always wanted—to separate Luis from Marissa. Carlos says, so? Luis becomes furious when Carlos lets loose with a stream of invective indicating how wrong he was for his mother. Luis, when he gets an opportunity to let loose himself, puts the blame on Carlos for turning Marissa against him, giving her the idea to cancel his cards and having him thrown out of the law office. This is all news to Carlos, but he’s right with the program. He claps to congratulate Luis. Carlos grabs him for bad mouthing his mother, Luis grabs him back. They start to scuffle, but Luis backs away.
Yikes, Luis has something stuck in his belt. He has a little trouble getting it out. Double yikes, it’s a gun, pointed directly at Carlos. Luis is yelling at Carlos while bystanders scatter. He says this is the last time Carlos puts his hands on him. Luis knows Carlos has hated him since he married Marissa and took his father’s place. He's been against him ever since. Carlos is standing straight and calm. He yells at Luis to go ahead and shoot. He repeats this several times. The hospital security guards appear. They get Luis to put the gun down, reluctantly.
He tells the security guards, guns drawn, that this is nothing to worry about, just a little family altercation between father and son. It rankled Carlos to hear him use those terms. He tells them he does not know this person and much less is his father. For a second, Luis considers picking up the gun, but prudence, in this case, is the better part of discretion and leaves it where it is. Luis is confused. He says of course Carlos knows him, he’s his stepfather. Carlos calls out that the man tried to kill him. Just then the town police arrive and cuff him. He’s hauled off yelling that he’s an attorney. He’s going to sue. Carlos starts to leave but one of the patrols tells him he has to come downtown if he’s going to file charges.
Mariana has no recourse but to dip into the construction company petty cash to pay off Lozórsano. Hernán is trying to tell her that’s next to impossible. Then he’ll have to help her figure where to get $100,000 USD, today, or else they are up a creek without even a kayak.
Fer comes back to visit Pedro. She is forced to kind of lie when he asks how her university studies are going. She diverts him by saying she can’t wait for him to get out so they can resume their lives together. Marissa arrives in a bright red top, setting off her jet black hair, to visit. Everyone seems in very good spirits, until Pedro says he’s ashamed to have her seeing him like that. She tells him he has to quit saying that. Dr. Javier saunters on down to see what’s going on. Pedro introduces her as Marissa. She introduces herself as Marissa Gomez-Ruiz. Astute Dr. Jay catches the name and asks if it’s like Carlos? Yes, he’s her son. Pedro informs her this is his doctor. Ah, surmises Marissa, then the two of them should be friends. Fer and Jay kind of look at each other. He only goes so far as to say they are colleagues. The conversation comes back to Pedro. He can’t wait to get back to working in the gardens of the bank. She says the flowers are waiting for him. Fer and Jay go off so Marissa and Pedro can visit.
Fer and Jay are sitting near a lagoon and Fer wonders why Jay thinks it’s strange that Pedro and Marissa are friends. Well, because she’s Carlos’ mother, of course, he replies. He wants nothing to do with Carlos, but he’s ok with Marissa. Jay reaches over to flick something off Fer’s nose. She reacts strongly, getting up and backing away from Jay. He apologizes, if it bothered her. She explains that it is a gesture Carlos always had with her and it surprised her. She sits back down and asks him to continue. Fer does think it’s curious that Pedro and Marissa have a friendship. Jay wonders if she thinks it’s because they have nothing in common. Fer says they do have things in common. Pedro works on her gardens and he would tell Fernanda how the two of them would get together and have long talks. Jay sees an entry--like the two of them, they see each other frequently, talk and are becoming good friends. Fer just looks at him with a slight smile on her face, but nothing over-emotional. Fer also mentions how grateful she is to Marissa, who loaned her the money to pay for her father’s treatment. (Fer, where are you going with this? You know very well, that it was Carlos who authorized Iggy to cut you a check as a loan, with no guarantees, from the bank--not Marissa’s pocketbook. Why are you doing this?) Fer has to leave to answer some of the want-ads. Jay leans over and kisses her cheek as a goodbye. Fer reacts because it was unexpected and not very welcome, but she is cordial and leaves him. Again he smiles [as only *he* can]. It can’t be malicious smile, not Jay.
Poor little Paco, already wearing a school uniform has been left behind at school. Carlos didn’t come to pick him up. He heads back to his cardboard house in the woods. It’s being occupied by three young homeless guys. Paco is locked out. The three tell him to move on.
A little later, in his hospital room, Pedro answers Marissa question, he hasn’t heard a word about Amelia. Just look at the two of them, she says. They both thought love would last a lifetime. What could be worse? Pedro says what would be worse is for Marissa to be in this clinic too. They chuckle and then sit on the bed to talk some more. Then she makes a significant statement. After all that has happened to them, is love still a possibility for them? He can’t answer that. Although he knows she’s going through some hard times, what happened to her is for the best. Luis Montero did not deserve her as a wife, she, a real lady. Now it’s Marissa’s turn to feel ashamed. Does Pedro believe all the nice things he’s saying about her? Yes, he does. She replies that she gave Luis her whole self and he’s turned on her.
Amelia tells Blanca how good she feels. >>FF.
Carlos finally manages to reach Marissa and asks her to go pick up Paco from school. An emergency came up. Marissa takes her leave of Pedro saying she’ll be back soon. His company has become a necessity for her. She takes his hands in hers. She heads for the school. Paco isn’t there. She gets very upset at the staff for letting a little boy wander off. They say they are not responsible. Paco is old enough and nothing will happen to him. He’s probably somewhere around, maybe on his way home. Marissa doesn’t think that’s a good excuse. She wonders where he could be.
Luis is at the police station still declaring he’s an attorney and they can’t treat him like a common criminal. Carlos is standing behind him. The police say he was caught en flagrante with a gun. Luis repeats it was a simple family dispute. (C’mon Luis, when is pointing a gun at a family member ok--you’re a lawyer.) Luis rages on. Carlos points out the man is threatening to kill him. He’s ready to file charges. The desk sergeant has heard enough and Luis is hauled off to lock-up. Carlos signs the paperwork and looks up at the officer with a very satisfied grin.
Mariana and Hernán are still arguing about how to come up with the pay off to Lozórsano. Hernán tells her they just can’t take company money. Old Fer gave financial control to Amelia, so he can’t rob the treasury, even if he wanted to. He leaves Mariana to stew while he goes to see what Amelia wants. He brings her in. She has some cash, but no safe in her office yet. She’d like Hernán to keep it for her in his safe, as he’d been doing. Mariana tells Hernán to give Amelia the combination to his safe. Amelia doesn’t want it, but the two persuade her, since they trust each other. Hernán hands her the combination, but does Amelia not see the looks Hernán and Mariana are giving each other, smiling conspiratorially?
Carlos gets to the school, finds Marissa, but Paco is still missing. Carlos goes back out to the woods and finds him. There is a warm father and son reunion. He tells Paco it was his fault, but never doubt how much he cares about him. Things may come up again and he might be late, but he’ll never abandon him. They walk home together. Paco isn’t ready to call him daddy, but he does want to know when he’s going to meet his mommy. Carlos says soon.
To a really great song, Fer pounds the pavement. [If anyone knows the name of the tune, please post it, please.] She talks faster and faster about her qualifications. She’s a quick learner. Some disreputable looking guy decides to give her a chance at his hardware (or ironworks) shop, attending clients. (He looks slimy just by the way he looked at her as she left.)
Fer has had a good day. It’s reflected in her violin practice. Cam is there to enjoy it. Cam is excited because Old Fer wants to meet her. Fer again tries to put her off. She tells Cam she already got a job, but no, she has no idea how much she will be paid. In the background, Jay approaches. Fer is a bit unnerved that he knows where she lives. Javier says he knows everything about his patient. He asks Fer to have dinner with him. After the introductions, Cam says good luck with dinner, the job and she leaves. He repeats the offer to go earlier since she wants to get to bed early that night. She declines that offer as well, but thanks him.
Carlos and Marissa finally get to talk about the emergency that kept him from picking up Paco. Carlos tells her that Luis is in jail. Marissa looks as though someone just hit her in the solar plexus. Carlos thought she’d like the news, since Luis was throwing his weight around the house, evicting her from her own bedroom suite and trying to take everything she has. Marissa says the legal procedures were already in the hands of the lawyer, why did he end up in jail? She’s afraid this will only make trouble for Carlos. As miserable as he’s been to Marissa, Carlos says the beast deserves to be in jail. She can’t believe Carlos when he tells her that Luis showed up at the hospital and menaced him with a gun. He tells her to check with the security and the personnel at the hospital if she doesn’t believe him. Luis accused Carlos of cancelling his credit cards and evicting him from his legal office.
Oooh, Clarita has come around the corner. These are some good chismes to hear. She only wishes her madrina, Nana Rosario were there to hear it all. Marissa still feels it was wrong. Luis’ beef is with her, not Carlos. There will surely be a scandal. Now it’s Carlos who can’t believe her. That good-for-nothing was going to shoot him and she’s worried about scandal? If that is so, she should go pay his bail and get him out. No, says Marissa, that’s not true, the most important thing in her life is Carlos.
At dinner, Marissa thinks to herself that she can’t help but feel badly for Luis. Here she is dining comfortably at home, while he...Carlos interrupts. He notifies her they both need to be at the court in the morning for a hearing against Luis. Marissa is sure that tomorrow the incident will be in all the newspapers and her name will be on the lips of everyone in town. Carlos creates and quotes the headline for her. Marissa says this is serious. Carlos says of course it’s serious, the jerk was about to kill him. Marissa says Luis is a coward, so she doesn’t think he really would have pulled the trigger. She says when Luis gets angry he does stupid things, but he’s not a murderer. Carlos says he’s going to the hearing in the morning with a lawyer. He has witnesses.
And there Luis is, feeling miserable, no one to defend him, harassed by the other prisoners. (Now is when he needs Felipe, no? There must be a lot of crime where they live. The jailhouse is full to bursting.) They are all excited to have a lawyer in their midst. Luis thinks only of himself. There’s always a first time. Carlos would be a reason to turn him into a murderer. He’s going to make Carlos pay.
Mariana and Amelia have an enlightening conversation. Amelia calls her on her wishes for luck, was it the same luck she wanted for Amelia when she got pregnant by Luis? Amelia says she knows everything, including that Mariana was in love with Luis. Is she still in love with him? Mariana usually has an answer for everything, but before she can get a word out, Amelia says they are sisters and she doesn’t think the man is worth it, he hurt both of them a lot. Mariana says she doesn’t know what Amelia is talking about. Amelia says for once, stop pretending, she only wants the truth. Mariana answers in her usual tone of voice when cornered. She yells that yes, she’s still in love with Luis and loves him with all her heart and soul and is the only man she’s ever loved. Amelia is bug-eyed at the force of Mariana’s statement. Mariana’s deluded but she continues to yell that if it weren’t for Amelia, she and Luis would be together to this day. He loved her. Amelia points out he did the same thing to her when Marissa Gomez-Ruiz showed up. Mariana is sure if Amelia hadn’t gotten in the way, she would never have let Luis go. Amelia says regardless, he hurt both of them. The sisters are left to contemplate what each believes about Luis Montero.
I wish for you and Mike the sentiments of the gentle Latin phrases of the religion of my youth: Pax Domini sit sempre vobiscum, (May the peace of the Lord be with you always.)
David
Not only do we have these exciting, enthralling shows but your always astute, carefully crafted summaries. Your summaries are the perfect compliment to the episode in every way.
"Fer just looks at him with a slight smile on her face, but nothing over-emotional" and "Again he smiles [as only *he* can]. It can’t be malicious smile, not Jay" were among many favorites.
"Fer is a bit unnerved that he knows where she lives". The stalking has begun.
"At dinner, Marissa thinks to herself that she can’t help but feel badly for Luis" and “Here she is dining comfortably at home, while he…”. My heart lurched momentarily. The intelligent, thoughtful Marissa was not having second thoughts was she? No. Thankfully, Carlos averted this backslide. Although Carlos’ seems confident and (dare I say it?) a bit cocky over putting Luis in his place,I fear apprisals will abound. “She says when Luis gets angry he does stupid things, but he’s not a murderer.. . Yet, Marissa. He is not a murderer. Yet. Some cowards do possess the capacity to kill, especially when feeling endangered or cornered. Like the rat they often are.
"She yells that yes, she’s still in love with Luis and loves him with all her heart and soul and is the only man she’s ever loved". Does anyone in this novella have any taste?? "Amelia is bug-eyed at the force of Mariana’s statement". As I noted yesterday, I give Amelia props for knowing how her sister felt. I was a bit taken aback by the sheer force of Mariana's vitrol. A slimy, angry snake finally shows its face. And it is a hideous sight to behold.
Luis does not seem at all pleased with his new accommodations, does he? His cell mates do not appear to be very congenial, do they? I can't think of a single soul who might want to get him out? But I am sure someone will as he can't rot in jail for the rest of the story (unfortunately!).
Anita, you are incredible. Thank you!
Diana
I was surprised Marissa didn't not get angrier at Luis and was actually worried about him being in jail. But when you've been married to someone for a long time, and in love with him, I guess it is a big adjustment to cut him off and throw him out. Still I did kind of say to my TV, "Honey he almost shot your kid! Get mad!"
The almost shoot out was a surprise to me, as was Carlos' in your face "go ahead, shoot me!" Up to now, I had considered these two guys more cerebral than this. I don't think that cancelling your credit cards constitutes justifiable homicide.
Dr. Jay is getting creepy, and Fer knows it. I think she has fended off his advances with an adeptness that is beyond her years and experience. This girl has a good head on her shoulders.
Diana, "His cell mates do not appear to be very congenial, do they?" If Luis had any entrepreneurial instinct whatsoever, he could start a legal clinic in the jail area, and pay his own bail.
I almost laughed when Mariana and Hernan tricked Amelia into receiving the combination for the safe. Talk about being played.
Thanks again, Anita. Just great.
David
I can't say I was surprised at Marissa's reaction over Luis' situation. I mean, she has been married to this man for 20 years and truly loved him. She threw him out some days ago. We cannot expect her to suddenly get over everything she feels as if by magic. The whole process will take time.
On the other hand, I absolutely loved Pedro's compliment to her at the hospital "You are a woman in every sense of the word", and I thought it was cute she felt a bit ashamed when she heard it. Does Pedro believe all these things about you, Marissa? Yes, he does! And you don't know it yet but you have your future husband in front of you! Open your eyes!
So, Amelia feels very happy now that she has a "real" job and doesn't need to be a cleaning lady anymore. A job she got without any effort or studies of course, as she is "la hija de papi". You snobbish bitch! I'm sorry, I cannot like her, no matter how repentant she appears to be.
As for Mariana and her "love" for Luis... well, I don't really care about her, that's why I never comment on her behavior. I actually find this character very caricature.
Then you said, "So, Amelia feels very happy now that she has a "real" job and doesn't need to be a cleaning lady anymore. A job she got without any effort or studies of course, as she is "la hija de papi". You snobbish bitch!" That follows right with her earlier daydreams of going back to papi's house and living the life she was born to. In other words, she doesn't have to "work," work. And, someone else will cook for her, do her laundry, iron, vacuum, clean her toilets, make her bed, while she enjoys being the apple of her papi's eyes. I can't think of a more deserving person to experience this and then have it all taken away again.
If you all remember, I did an intro for Week 5 on all the women who love Luis Montero (and a mystery to all of us). Andrea finally got her wake-up call. The snooze button is on for Marissa. Amelia is beginning to see her dream man turn into a nightmare man. And Mariana? Nothing Luis can do will dispel her feelings for him, because she and Luis are better than two peas in a pod. Hernan should take Camila away and leave Mariana to Luis--except he's too greedy. He's had his eye on this hacienda since day 1, and probably the reason he married Mariana in the first place.
Dy77--Marissa's attitude also puzzled me. She may have been more concerned that Carlos' impulsive action was going to cause problems in an otherwise smooth divorce and problems for him. She wants no scandal. Love him or not, Luis is a human she's shared her bed and home with for almost all of 20 years. She must have a picture in her mind of what a Mexican jail is like and there she was dining off fine linen, china and crystal and someone else serving the meal. Maybe it wasn't second thoughts, but seeing the irony in the situation.
Diana--"The stalking has begun." I wish it weren't true, but it sure looks that way. But it's not unlike how Carlos started out, either. They both saw something very charming and desirable in Fer and decided to pursue her.
In Javier's case, I stand by my statement yesterday. Pedro has an irrational hate and fear of Carlos and doesn't want him near his daughter, thus giving Javier a sense of permission to see Fer himself. What Jay should be doing as Pedro's psychiatrist is delving into Pedro's reasons before he actively pursues her.
David--"Dr. Jay is getting creepy, and Fer knows it. I think she has fended off his advances with an adeptness that is beyond her years and experience. This girl has a good head on her shoulders." Agree 100%. As Tofie said yesterday, she seems to be the adult, and not just when she's with Carlos.
Now, marissa & pedro are to nice for their own good. She sits worried about that worm, who would gladly kick her out of her home, that he slimed his way into. He wouldn't give a flyin fig where she ended up if the situatio was reversed. Im with carlos, he's right where he deserves to be. He pulled a gun on him, why isn't she upset about that? That man could have killed her son. He accused him of stopping his credit cards, people will kill you over their money and she sits there worried about that man being in jail. Well, ok next.
Mariana and greedy hernin deserve each other. They could steal the money and blame amelia.
Don't like the creepy shop keeper that hired fer. I'll be glad when something good happend for her and pedro.
Dr. Javier being creepy is the understatement. His popping up at Fer's hut and then explaining how he found her (for no emergency reason either) is just icky and screams run girl run!
I too understand that Marissa can't just turn her feelings off and sometimes when you are made you say hurtful things (even if you mean them, but you say them where they have a hateful/hurtful impact) and maybe you regret saying it later. However, murdering or attempting to murder my child pretty much kills whatever I may have had left for you. To hell with divorce. You will have nothing in jail!
At least we didn't have Pedro freaking out about Carlos yesterday, I'm sick of it.
LucyLu, don't feel sorry...I can't stand that snobbish bitch either. Her redemption, as I think I said yesterday, is not believable. Those crocodile tears are that...fake! The writers sunk her far too low for me to want to feel any sympathy for her. As someone who I used to know told me, you can find sympathy between sh*t and syphilis.
Boy oh boy was I cheering when Louse lost his Black Amex card and the eviction from his office! Ordonez has got Marissa's back and Louse is going to looking for his own cardboard box soon. Unless Fernanda takes Don Fers nursing gig and is revealed to be the heiress to his fortune. That's when Luis will make his move on miss bitchy bangs. Oh how I wish Hernan had said whoops and let her slide over that embankment. Oh well..I will enjoy Luis using her and then cracking her stupid face again. Those two deserve each other.
I'm getting annoyed with Pedro. He's leading Javier to believe Luis is Carlos bio father and Pedro knows that is not true. He's wearing my nerves by going on and on to Javier about it. I understand Pedro's desire to protect Fernanda but his lying and manipulating is going to bite him in his behind. I won't mind if Fer unleashes in him for lying and adding to the pain she's feeling. Pedro knows the truth but for selfish reasons is keeping things from her. I can't support Pedro's childish "she's my daughter" Fer is almost 20.
Dr Javier is a metiche. He doesn't need to know about Fers love life to treat Pedro. Boundaries dude.
Paquito gets a home in one episode while Fer is still camping in the woods. C'mon show...balance please!!
