Un Camino Hacia el Destino-Week 17 (Jun 13, 2016) 1st Half
We will have to wait until Tuesday to see how Fernanda’s trial goes. With Felipe defending her instead of Ordoñez, anything can happen. Can anything save her from prison? If Camila goes along with Mariana and Hernán, she will lose Fernanda as a friend forever, but gain her father’s approval (temporarily, probably). If she doesn't and backs Fernanda, her father's wrath comes down on her and Mariana reverts to her venomous reptilian persona. Since Camila hurt Fer at the end of Friday's episode telling her Carlos won't show up because he took his mother to Houston and he's with Ickzzy--his only real love, this does not bode well for the friendship.
Don Fernando is a lost cause to testify in favor of Fernanda. He's too befuddled. As Delilah pointed out, he doesn't even look good in his clothes.
Things look bleak before the trial even gets under way.
While we wait, let’s speculate—why, when Fernanda is faced with serious prison time, won’t Pedro or Amelia just let loose with their not so very dirty secret to Luis….and Fernanda. (Thank you, Diana, for the idea.)

I'll take any other day we can't cover and post 2nd Half on Thursday afternoon.
there's this thing that happens with Alzheimer's patients a certain time of the day they become very loose it's just like you don't even have Alzheimers maybe they'll write something like that into the script for Don Fernando so he can help his granddaughter........ I don't know maybe. Now we gotta wait til tuesday to see the trial. Ok I'll look forward to the trial tuesday.
Thanks I Anita :-D
I'm glad you started off the convo centering around what disturbs me most. On the last thread, my last post was precisely how angry I am at Pedro and Amelia, but Pedro mostly. Here is Fer sitting in jail, being put through all of this when Pedro (who right now, I think is being very selfish) could just speak up and tell Luis the truth about who Fer is. It's really just that simple and would save Fer all this heartache. Instead like whiny vaginy he has been through most of this novela, Pedro runs to Don Fer to get help for his daughter. Really Pedro? Be a man and speak up for once and tell the truth to Luis, that HE and no YOU are Fer's real father. Instead Pedro wants to tell everyone what a good father he has been to Fer and in fact he isn't being good right now. Both he and Amelia have played GOD with that girls life and it's because of them that she is suffering needlessly right now.
Luis is a self centered egomaniac, but I don't think Amelia or Pedro are much better. Their own egos have prevented them from doing what is best for Fer and that is telling the truth!
The outlook appears dark, clouded with lying, confusion and desperation running rampant.
Logically, I'm assuming we all agree that Fernanda is in the greatest (immediate) peril. Marissa has Pedro with her so I am relegating her to second.
Nina, your "Amelia and pedro actually really love fernanda. They need to start acting like parents. Together. For their daughter. They can straighten out their feelings for each other later" could not have been more perfect. There is nothing for me to add now. They must unite to save their child.
I appreciate your comment on Alzheimer's as well. I was not aware that occurred. With Carlos away and Fernanda locked away, things appear grim for Don Fer.
Fernanda has displayed good, common sense throughout. However, hearing Isy is with Carlos from the lying lips of her ex-bestie seemed to hit the mark.
I would like to see Amelia continue on her road to redemption by taking the lead and being proactive in securing Fernanda's release. And we all know what that entails. I honestly believe the thought has not occurred to her. Let's hope it does and quickly.
Diana
I admire your clear and honest comments, particularly regarding Pedro and Amelia. I am hoping telling Luis the truth about his paternity hasn't really occurred to them, and this is one time I am hoping I'm not wrong.
Pedro has been selfish but my heavens. Does he honestly think Fernanda would consider Luis any type of father figure after what he has done?? He knows Fernanda adores him and that will never change. Spill the beans Pedro. And quickly.
Diana
If Amelia and Pedro are really too stupid to realize all they have to do is tell Luis the truth then they aren't fit to live and breathe. Who would be that stupid with their own child?
Nina, you speak the truth regarding Amelia/Pedro coming together for Fer. These two have to put Fer first.
I haven't liked crazy Pedro for awhile and his begging to rage in 60 seconds flat manipulation of Fernanda and Amelia is not love.
Thank you for offering your time and talent to recap. We haven't heard from Dy yet, so I can't write her in. Aleta, wouldn't you be willing to do one of your wonderful sharply-aimed bullet pointed recaps for us, maybe next week?
So at least for this week we have:
Mon - No Camino
Tue - Anita
Wed - David
Thu - Anita or Dy
Fri - Delilah
Anita, I'll be glad to help out one night next week. Just let me know when.
What I got out of that exercise, to remind us all, was that Felipe started the WHOLE forward movement of this telenovela by feeding Camila the line that Carlos was not only interested in her, but in love with her and dying to go out with her. Due to Fer's reluctance to lose a friend over telling the truth, Camila's fantasies about him kept building. When she told her dad over a meal (before that fateful dinner Marissa and Luis were invited to) that she not only knew Carlos, but had been going out with him and they were almost novios, Hernan took that piece of her fantasy and ran with it.
Did we forget how Cam threw herself at Carlos once before at the clinic and planted a kiss on him that she then later went and boasted to Fer about, in Carlos' presence? Camila believed her own fantasy and used it to deceive herself. She has been used by Felipe, then Hernan and now Mariana. She's had no one on her side explaining how things really were except Fer and Fer kept her mouth closed too long.
Here are my musings on why Amelia and Pedro don't just go to Luis and tell him why he ought to drop the charges against Fer.
Amelia and Pedro--They are still "on the outs," and it will take a little more time for them to work together as parents to protect their daughter. Pedro is not going to believe her change in attitude towards him and Fer. He will see it as a ruse to get Fer to accept the luxuries Amelia is now enjoying.
Amelia--Her eyes were opened to her misplaced feelings for Luis. She now sees him for who he really is and is protecting Fernanda from him using her. But why in the world she did not do more to get Don Fer ready to receive his granddaughter is a mystery to me. And it wasn't just his health. He's had many lucid moments before this last crisis. (He always remembers Carlos, no?) Mariana and Hernan already know who Fer is and Amelia and Blanca have already vowed to protect her from those two and Luis. What gives?
Pedro--He's holding onto Amelia's promise never to reveal that he is not Fer's bio-dad. We all agree he's tonto to think Fer would ditch him for that nasty Luis. Maybe he doesn't believe Fer could really go to prison and the secret will be safe. I think Pedro is more afraid of Fer, when she finds out who her family is, wants to move into the Hacienda and enjoy the same luxuries that Amelia now has. He's very insecure about the seduction of wealth and social position, despite all the evidence to the contrary as far as Fer is concerned.
Luis--I don't think learning Fer is his daughter would change his attitude towards her. He's built up too much hate and "getting" her, to drop the charges. He'd resent Amelia AND Pedro for keeping that information from him. I see him going ahead with his charges to hurt both of them. He doesn't really care about Fernanda, the person.
Looking back and listening to his original contemplation after talking to Don Fer and later Mariana, there was a moment when he seemed pleased that he had a child of his own flesh and blood. However, I think he believed Amelia when she said Fer was Pedro's child. If he's told Fer is really his, he won't believe them. Of course DNA would prove otherwise, but that's too easy a way out.
This telenovela should have been titled the Perils of Paulina, if Fernanda hadn't been played by a Paulina.
I'm with you and everyone on the anvil getting Luis, but I want it slow and humiliating and everybody standing around watching him get buried.
Luis has exhibited NO redeeming qualities to his character. He hates everyone he comes in contact with, uses them, tosses them aside, threatens, denigrates, plots, harms. He just lost the only friend he might have had, Leo, on his quest to best everyone who might have bested him, to show he has the power to destroy. Ickyzzy won't be useful to him for long, of that we can be fairly sure--she was not in favor of his just offing Marissa with such glee--with nothing in it for her!
I fervently want to believe Prof Diego is on the up and up. The age difference between the two is even more than Carlos and Fer and I worried about that. Carlos and Fer were deeply in love and we were able to watch them fall in love and seen them demonstrate how much they do love each other. We care for their characters.
The Prof comes across differently. We didn't get to see how they fell in love. They had a few tutoring lessons and then it was bang! She kissed him on the mouth, hugged him and he was a goner.
Ok, now. Here's my take. He's been a nerdy asexual man for most of his adult life. He can deal collectively with nubile young girls in classroom situations. He doesn't know how to behave with one determined young woman. He put himself "in harm's way" when he offered to tutor her. Maybe this was one of his first experiences one-on-one.
In the scene where he is cleaning up to make room for his bride, he is saying to himself how lucky he is, he loves Lucero so much, she's the love of his life. He didn't have to say that if he is to come across as a creepy pervert.
Once they are alone together in the apartment on their wedding night, he's very uncomfortable and awkward, almost shy, not knowing what to talk about.
Even though he says he'll take the lead and she shouldn't been afraid, I doubt he's had that much experience. [Well, I have to admit I haven't seen the rest of their wedding night, but it doesn't take much for a male to be successful if he has been waiting a long time to have sex (again) and has a willing partner].
So, on that basis, I'm holding out for them to be happy, but I could be dead wrong. It does all seem so strange. He only has a brother, too far away to come to the wedding. He agrees to a secret (sort of) wedding. He has to sell his car in order to pay for the wedding. He lives in a one-room apartment. Surely he gets paid fairly well to teach at a private high school/prep school. Lucero is the one with the correct love words about the loss of her mother's financial support--that wherever he is, is her home, etc. etc.
A couple of weeks ago when Cami was acting all pissy towards Fer about Carlos, I believed that a reconciliation was possible in that scenario because that wasn't serious enough. I am done with that now. What she is doing is beyond reconciling a friendship. This is cruelty for no reason. Her claims that "we are just going to scare her, right?" fall on deaf ears for me because she may be somewhat naïve, but she isn't stupid. Sworn statements and court? Sounds like jail time to me so our friendship is dead. You shot, stabbed, strangled, saturated with kerosene, lit on fire, scooped up the ashes, and buried that relationship.
Yeah, Fer is nice, but that's just too much.
I also agree that Luis won't believe them at this point. It'll be a 'you are just saying that' speech. He had a flash of conscience for the things that he did to Fer when he was afraid that she might have been his daughter. So, I'm not quite sure that when they get around to confirming and he knows it as a fact that he might not be repentant. It would serve him right. Lose Marisa, job at the construction company, and now no inheritance from his daughter.
Ok, I may have missed some discussions, but doesn't that fur ball own a spa? I know it's a modeling studio too, but isn't it a spa too? otherwise - why do they have towels and a tub? Or are we supposed to forget that part?
I caught up so I can do a 'fill in' recap if I know ahead of time (except I'm traveling the last week of the month), but I should be good next week (M-Th) soccer schedule notwithstanding.
He has this rugged sexy thing going on that I can't quite put my finger on. I could do without all the damn sweater vests though.
Oh, the blanket that Lucero and Diego had in there marital bed was really nice (where can I get one of those), but that looked like a sweater that Carlos and Fer had draped over them. I think I saw a sleeve. I was confused why she would take a sweater, but whatever it served a purpose.
I think we are in the process of forming a dynamite recapping team!
However! *big friggin sigh* this sh** right here??!! I can't excuse. It wasn't even her father putting the idea in her head, it was her evil stepmother (who she can't stand). So, she may be redeemable, but that friendship should not be. I know they are using her, but that's her friend that she loved deeply and this is not at all 'a lesson' it's a crime.
Be re-warned that I rely heavily on the captions (Fer talks too damn fast) for me to rely on my listening and Spanish skills. So if the captions are doing a sucky thing, then my recap is going to suck too!
Kendra I feel as you do that if Ivan Sanchez (Yago) were playing Luis it would make more sense. He is just dreamy! That hair and that smile and that body. Aye! *Fans self*
Everyone's points are well taken as to what thoughts are and are not being processed in in Amelia and Pedro's heads.
Pedro and Amelia's relationship will be refined and rebuilt. They (and we) do not know what that will be. But, they love their daughter. To me, it's quite simple. Go to Luis (together or separately) and tell the truth.
I agree that Luis is wrapped in a frenzy of hate toward Fernanda. While I don't think knowing she is his daughter will make him necessarily care, he does care about her inheritance. So, not only would the truth prompt Luis to drop the charges but earn him a pretty penny in the process. I am really interested to see what happens.
Anita, this story is so enthralling, isn't it? And yes, there is no filler, only new and fresh.
Diana
Let's see if this works. Since we now have additional volunteers, Aleta and Kendra can alternate. Kendra--is it always the last week of the month you are on travel?
If soccer interferes, recapper takes the night off.
I will be in Edmonton visiting my daughter during Weeks 20 & 21, so I won't even be on the roster. Someone else will have to fill in on those two Mondays. They don't get Univision up there in the rarified Canadian-English-French air waves. I'll be relying on the recaps myself. I will be able to post the headliner, though.

Kendra--Would you be willing to do the two Mondays I'm gone--July 4 (may not have Un Camino anyway) and July 11?
If July 4th is airing (that will be tricky for me) I am in town, but my family reunion runs the entire weekend, so if I am able to do it...it may be very late. Maybe someone else knows they are able. Not to mention, I will need to catch up on episodes from the prior week and with the reunion happening it may be impossible. So now that I've unnecessarily typed all of that - I don't think that's a good day for me to promise.
I am willing to do July 11th. I don't see it as a problem.
BREAKING NEWS: Teenage Swindler and Elder Abuser Sentenced to Ten Years in Prison.
Houston
First things first. Carlos is waiting in Dr. Espinoza’s office for the results of Marissa’s extensive tests. He learns it is a poor prognosis, but with medical intervention she will live a decent life. Creating a heavier impact for him is the news Dr. Espinoza has for Carlos. This type of muscular dystrophy could be hereditary. This gives Carlos a few scenes to worry about his future, but later the doctor tells him his tests came back negative. He’s not at risk. Carlos is happy to be able to give his mother the good news so she can concentrate on her own health and not worry about his.
Carlos keeps trying to reach Fernanda and anyone at Don Fer’s house, but no one answers. He’s puzzled and frustrated. No need to say, to add on to his present condition, Ickyzzy arrives, hair and roller bag in tow. He tries to tell her there’s nothing here for her to do and she shouldn’t have come, at least not without advising him. She reminds him he’s had his phone off or something. He tells her to go to a hotel, but she ignores the suggestion. She’s Marissa’s best friend and is going to stay by her side. Luis would have come with her, but he had some business to take care of. Carlos tries to reach Fer again, with Ickyzzy standing behind him watching.
Ordoñez and Isy wait in the hallway while Carlos and the doctor are talking to Marissa. She wants to know why he’s even there, since this is a time for family and friends, not employees. He explains that he’s there in a business capacity to have all the legal documents arranged for Carlos to get married. He says it with such pleasure—yes, he wants to marry Fernanda the minute he gets back to Mexico. Isy, having the inside track on at least one thing, says that marriage will never happen. First of all, Marissa won’t permit it and second, now that the swindler is….she catches herself in time. Ordoñez asks, where is she? Isy clams up.
Legal disclaimer—
I do not understand the Mexican Telenovela Justice System. I can only report what I observed.
Pre-trial Courtroom Drama
Camila hits Fernanda in the gut with her story that Carlos went on a trip to the States with Isabela. Fer knows it can’t be true because Carlos’ mother is very sick and his only concern is her care. She begs Cam, for the friendship they have (or had) to tell the truth: she’s no swindler (a small technicality, but she did keep the money) and she never mistreated Don Fer. Hernán grips Cam’s shoulders to remind her who’s in charge here. He pushes her out of Fer’s way.
The Trial
Judge Suarez is presiding. The judge lets Luis go first. Fer tries to speak to him, but he tells her to sit down. He’ll tell her when she can speak. Fer apologizes. On her side of the courtroom is Felipe, by her side, Pedro and Jose behind her, Rosaura and Sor Sonrisa and Lucero and Diego at the back. On Luis’ side of the courtroom are Mariana, Hernán and Camila. Off to one side, behind a low railing sit some crime story fanatics. (I thought at first they were the jury, but this is a trial without a jury.)
It sounds like an opening statement. Luis gets to list the charges he’s brought in his petition and asks for justice for him by sentencing this delinquent to 20 years in prison. Cam jumps up and cries, NO! Herm hustles her out of the courtroom.
Luis is immediately allowed to call witnesses to give testimony. First up is Camila. Luis turns around, but she’s not in the courtroom. Luis skips over her and calls Luisa Fernanda. (Whoa, can he really do that?) Felipe tries to object that they need to wait for Camila’s testimony first. Luis says she felt ill after the words she and the delinquent exchanged before the trial began. The judge overrules Felipe. He’s a busy judge and has other cases to hear.
Luis Fernanda, in her yellow shortie t-shirt and tight blue jeans, goes to sit in the hot seat—it’s not even a witness box, it’s just a chair next to the judge. The first question out of Luis is one of those paradoxes—like, when did you stop beating your wife? His question is, “How (or when) did you decide to swindle me?” “How (or when) did you come to an agreement with your accomplice?” He’s looking directly at Felipe. Fer truly doesn’t know how to answer. Before she has to, there is a commotion at the back of the courtroom. Amelia and Blanca enter with Don Fernando. Amelia leaves them on Luis’ side of the room and she goes to stand at the back on Fer’s side.
Just Outside the Courtroom
Camila is now objecting to her role in this charade—as she sees it now. She was told that her sworn statement was just a means to scare Fernanda. Hermy tells her the girl is a headache, a menace. Cam says for him, maybe, but for her, she’s a friend. Hermy tells her then she can jolly well join her in prison, but she’s not going to ruin their plans (he means plotting). Cam says it’s not right. Hermy tells her to suck it up. This is the way it’s going to be and she is to go in there and look that bastard in the eye and testify to what she said in her statement. Cam says suppose she decides to tell the truth. Hermy says if she does, grabbing her hair, she’ll be denying him as a father and she can just forget him.
Back in the Courtroom
Fer finishes telling her story, apparently without any interruptions from Luis, Felipe or the judge. Luis now is ready to tell the judge and the court that she’s lying and then speaks to Fernanda telling her she just added a new charge to her many other charges, that of perjury. Fer can’t contain herself. She jumps up to say she’s telling the truth. Luis continues. He tells the judge he’s demonstrating her culpability and she continues to lie. She has had years of experience as a swindler. Now Pedro can’t contain himself. He jumps up to deny Luis’ accusations. Amelia butts in and tries to tell him he’s prejudicing her case. Pedro loses his cool and yells at Amelia that it is her fault Fer is in this situation, surrounded as she was, by hyenas. The cameras pan to Mariana, who takes the insult quietly. The judge threatens to clear the courtroom if they don’t shut up. Mariana smiles. Luis smiles. Fer is destroyed.
The next witness is Don Fernando. He can’t remember his name or how old he is or what medication he takes. He gets up in an angry huff and leaves the stand, obviously upset by being confused by the questions.
Mariana is up next. She testifies how she hired Fer only because she was her stepdaughter’s friend. Tearfully she says how much it hurts her to have to say that Fer abused the trust the whole family had in her. Amelia loses it. She interjects that Mariana only wants to harm her daughter. Amelia approaches the bench and asks the judge to let her speak. He won’t let her. Blanca loses it. She says he’s a judge and assumes he is a just one and to please listen to them. The judge won’t. Order is restored and Mariana continues her emotional testimony. She says she doesn’t understand why Fer did this when everyone in the house loved her, but her father ended up like this because Fer wasn’t giving him the right treatment and medications. Crying, she looks at Fer and asks why she did it, why? Fer loses it. She jumps up and says to the judge that it isn’t true, it’s a lie. Fer is now crying. Mariana has to pretend through her grin that she’s really crying. Amelia is doing a slow burn at the back of the room.
The Judgment
The judge has heard all he needs to make a decision. He’s ready to hand down the sentence: ten years in prison. (I don’t know what sentencing guidelines he’s using, but in my humble opinion, this is a little excessive. Oh well, let’s take it at face value. Surely they don’t intend to have us watch Fer spend the rest of this story inside those awful prison walls. But Flippy is no Maximiliano Bustamante Mondragon.)
The judge remands Fer to the authorities to be imprisoned immediately. She’s taken away in handcuffs.
Pandemonium erupts in the courtroom on Fer’s side with Pedro getting wildly uncontrollable. Over on Luis’ side, all is calm. Pedro gets in Amelia’s face accusing her of ruining the life of his daughter. He charges at an unruffled, relaxed, smiling Luis, hands in his pockets. The guys hold Pedro back. Rosaura tells Pedro only God knows why He does things like this.
Blanca tells Amelia she needs to be strong to help Fernanda. Outside the courtroom, Pedro accosts Luis. He swears to Luis he will get his daughter out of there if it’s the last thing he does and it will be soon. Amelia decides on impulse to tell Luis the truth about Fernanda. Blanca doesn’t want her to, but Amelia says she has nothing to lose.
[I swear on my recapper’s bible that I did not know this was going to happen tonight. I do not watch ahead. I was just basing my speculation on how Luis would react, knowing what a bottom feeding worm he is, who only sees the world as being either advantageous or disadvantageous to him, putting himself in the best light and going after anyone who humiliates him.]
Luis turns to see Amelia approaching. He sneers at her, how nice to see she hasn’t forgotten him and how he continues to be the love of her life. She answers that his life is worth Zilch. He made a big mistake. That girl he just sent to prison is...behind Luis, Pedro yells, Amelia, no...and she finishes....his daughter.
Luis looks stunned for a hot Mexican minute and then dismisses the whole notion. Amelia wishes it weren’t true. Luis says he’s not going to play her little game; it’s over; she lost. The little swindler is already in prison. Amelia says he’s mistaken, Fer is not like Luis, she’s good. He turns to leave saying she’s not his daughter. Amelia turns to Pedro begging him to back her up. He says nothing. Luis sees this merely as an attempt to save the gardener’s daughter. The swindler is not his daughter. His daughter was a princess. Pedro finally speaks. He tells Luis he’s a miserable swine, a bad seed and that’s why his daughter died and he ought to die, too.
Luis tells Pedro Fer is going to rot in prison and proud to be the one who put her there. There’s nothing Pedro can do to save her. Pedro says they’ll see about that. With that, Luis walks out. Pedro turns to look at Amelia with all the passive hate he can muster. Amelia tearfully cringes away from the gaze he’s fixed on her.
Inside the Women’s Prison
Fernanda is admitted. She’s photographed, fingerprinted, ponytail band removed, issued a prison outfit, given a blanket and a pillow, which is immediately yanked out of her arms by a guard standing by. She is shut into her two-person cell with metal bunk beds surrounded by concrete walls on three sides and exposed by bars on the fourth. (Mind you, this is a wonderful PSA for any would-be criminals.) Fer is now alone. She sinks down in a corner crying, wondering how long she will be in there. Why didn’t Carlos come when she needed him most. Where is that love he swore to her. A little later, she meets her roommate. She introduces herself as Maribel Mendoza. She’s in for robbery. (Fortunately, she doesn’t look like one of those hardened butches one always finds in telenovela prisons.)
Fer tells Maribel her story. Maribel thinks her friend will sooner or later come forward and tell the truth. Fer says she doesn’t think so. The only one who could have helped her is a gentleman named Don Fernando, but he can’t remember anything. Fer and Maribel continue talking. Maribel can’t believe she would lie like that just because she’s jealous. Maribel asks why Carlos wasn’t with her. Fer says he supposedly went on a trip with another woman, but Fer doesn’t believe that. His mother is very sick and if Carlos was on a trip with anyone, it would have been his mother, Marissa.
Luis has packed his bag to go to Houston. He reflects on what Amelia said. Now he’s confused. Did she lie the first time when she said his child died? He had his doubts with that story. Or is she lying this time that Fer is his daughter. He convinces himself she’s lying this time. That little swindler can’t have his blood running through her veins.
We take turns watching Amelia in her comfy Altamirano bed talking to herself and Pedro sitting on Fer’s bed in the shack, holding her violin. Amelia is saying how she herself is paying the consequences for being a bad mother. (Wouldn’t that be Fer paying the consequences? Amelia, you still have a long way to go before you are redeemed.) She does say how good Fernanda is and why does she have to endure another blow. Pedro, on the other hand, is asking God to help him get through these painful times. Why does his daughter have to go through this.
They both say they have to be strong for Fer. They continue to recriminate themselves. Amelia for not valuing the family she had—poor, but together. Pedro for having gotten sick, forcing Fer to go to work.
Camila is going through her own private hell fire. She’s tossing and turning and burning up with fever. Blanca comes in to soothe her. She knows Cam did wrong. She can’t believe what some parents can do to their child.
Pedro and Flippy, with Jose, go over the trial and the next steps at Javier’s place. Flippy just happened to be in town on vacation, but now he’ll stay to see what he can do. He suspects the judge was paid off, but it will be difficult to get proof of his corruption. Instead, he’ll try to use all the legitimate means at his disposal to get Fer out of prison. She was judged unfairly and he’s set to prove it.
Carlos and the doctor are explaining to Marissa that she will need something to guard against sleep apnea and a pacemaker to help prevent a heart attack and help her weakened heart muscles. Just as they tell her it’s imperative she undergoes the operation the very next morning and they need her authorization, Carlos’ worst nightmare walks in. Luis wants to know what this intervention is all about. If any authorization is needed, he, as her husband, would be the only one to give it. Marissa asks Carlos to leave them, she needs to talk to Luis alone. (Don’t, Marissa, don’t, anything you say to Luis, Carlos should hear). She tells him the operation is necessary and she’ll be ok and by the way, just as a precaution, she’s going to change some of the terms of her will. (Oh, Marissa, you did it. Carlos needed to be there.)
Carlos waits outside Marissa’s hospital room with Ordoñez and Isy. He reassures them that the operation to install the pacemaker is done all the time. When she asks, Carlos replies that he does indeed intend to marry Fer when he gets back to Mexico. Isy stares at him, turns, grabs her purse and waggles out.
Fer dreams about fun in the tire swing with Carlos. He’s saying he wouldn’t leave her alone like that. No, he wasn’t traveling with Isabela. He loves Fer. She wakes and realizes it was just a nice dream. Injustices happen all the time. It was just her turn. She decides life is worth living. She has people who love her. Life does not end here. She’s going to endure with a smile and look forward and have her dreams to keep her company at night.
First time in a week I've been able to watch and what a dozy. Between huffing and puffing and stomping and growling at Luis I've been able to be entertained by this silly show. Usually it's impossible for me not to get lost in the improbable and impossible but here I don't care.
"behind a low railing sit some crime story fanatics"
"Luis looks stunned for a hot Mexican minute and then dismisses the whole notion"
"Pedro turns to look at Amelia with all the passive hate he can muster"
Why on earth didn't Blanca speak up?
Amelia always makes it about herself.
I'm not giving Camila a pass cause she's got Mr. UnClean for a father.
Ridiculous as the courtroom drama and Luis's hypnotic appeal to women is Isabela and Marissa as besties.
Only Fernanda will see the bright side of a dingy cell.
PLEASE NOTE: THE CC'S WERE A COMPLETE DISASTER LAST NIGHT, THE WORST I HAVE EVER SEEN, AND I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING. IF THAT HAPPENS AGAIN TONIGHT I WON'T BE ABLE TO PROVIDE AN UNDERSTANDABLE RECAP. I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT UNDERSTAND SPOKEN TELENOVELA SPANISH. IS THERE SOMEONE WHO COULD SUB FOR ME IF THIS HAPPENS AGAIN TONIGHT?

"Ickyzzy arrives, hair and roller bag in tow", "Off to one side, behind a low railing sit some crime story fanatics" and "Flippy is no Maximiliano Bustamante Mondragon" were among many wonderful lines.
To me, there were two parallel themes last night. Devastation the first and hope (albeit a tiny sprout), the second.
The devastation: "Mariana smiles. Luis smiles. Fer is destroyed". The intentional dismantling and destroying of an amazing, loving young woman's life.
The delivery: "Luis looks stunned for a hot Mexican minute and then dismisses the whole notion". You and others had said this would occur and you were right on the money. I am glad to see he did give pause later but of course did not give it the credence it deserved.
The hope: "Maribel Mendoza", kindness where least expected. "Fer doesn’t believe that. His mother is very sick and if Carlos was on a trip with anyone, it would have been his mother, Marissa". Rational belief in the one she loves.
And finally,“She decides life is worth living. She has people who love her. Life does not end here. She’s going to endure with a smile and look forward and have her dreams to keep her company at night”. I was in tears.
The ugly: "Pedro finally speaks. He tells Luis he’s a miserable swine, a bad seed and that’s why his daughter died and he ought to die, too".
I have to admit, while my heart ached for Fernanda, I was very upset and even angry at Pedro. "Pedro turns to look at Amelia with all the passive hate he can muster". Ummm, really? At least Amelia admitted the truth. Once again, Pedro put his feelings for "his" daughter above all else, including Fernanda's well being. He tried to perpetuate the lie to Luis about his daughter being dead even after his daughter was sentenced to 10 years? Come on man. Stop wallowing in self pity, dry your tears and fight to free Fernanda with Amelia.
tofie, "I'm not giving Camila a pass cause she's got Mr. UnClean for a father". I laughed out loud. Simply great.
David, I am afraid I will be of little help but there is anything I can add tomorrow, I will be happy to.
Anita, thank you for explaining it all and doing it with clear and concise vision and wisdom.
Diana
Ugh, the parents on this show. Not just the overtly evil ones like Mariana, Hernan and Luis, but also Amelia and Pedro. They are all just a bunch of parenting failures, really, and Fernanda is paying the price. Interesting that Luis is going to choose to deny that he's the dad.
Camila is trash. I hope Fer never speaks to her again.
I don't think I have ever seen a Nathalie tn where the hero/heroine didn't go to jail on trumped up charges. At least Fer's hair will be reformed by jail! I was so happy when they confiscated the ponytail holder.
David, Were you watching with the Spanish CCs or the English ones? I didn't have too many problems with the Spanish ones last night. They seemed to be in sync with the words. Sometimes they're a whole sentence off and that drives me nuts.
So last night I learned the Spanish word for pacemaker (from inference), but of course this morning I've already forgotten it.
How scary that Luis could be Marissa's medical surrogate, and maybe deny the surgery for the pacemaker! But as long as Marissa is conscious, she should be able to make the decision for herself.
How unfair that nasty Amelia is walking and sweet Marissa is bed-ridden. And the way that Pedro's acting, I'm beginning to think he deserves Amelia.
Anita, I can see why you didn't want to discuss the Mexican justice system--so many holes in this part of the story. Wouldn't there been a government prosecutor? I think the writers could have had Luis or Mariana pay off a prosecutor; that would have made more sense.
As for Fernanda being a swindler, Luis did hit her with his car, and she must not have gotten a lot of money, just enough for the trip and a few new clothes. Otherwise she could have repaired the house or used the money for Pedro's care at the mental health facility.
I wonder if they're going anywhere with the Maribel story. So far she seems like an angel.
David--I'll stand by for you tonight. Post a comment right after 9 pm, since I won't know anything about CCs. I'm sure we'll see some tough women show up to menace our Fer very soon since Mariana and Isy are safely on the other side of the wall and, of course, Carlos will not find out what happened to Fer, at least not tonight.
Diana--I look forward to reading your comments as much as writing the recaps. You are my inspiration. Pedro is an impulsive being with some real anger management issues. I was furious with him too. After getting in Luis' face, to just stand there and watch Amelia humiliate herself and not back her up made me grind my teeth. He's perpetuating the myth that Luis' daughter is dead, making it even harder for Luis to accept the truth later on. As for me, I really don't know what good will come of Luis finding out she really is his daughter. He only wants to manipulate her to get in line for Don Fer's fortune. Only a fraction of one percent is his honest desire to have future descendants. Also, being a tn, no one is going to mention DNA testing. Not even Carlos, if they ever get together again before El Fin.
So now just about everyone except Fernanda and Carlos (and a few others) knows her true parentage. Will Ordonez be the key? He and Lupe know. Fer herself may be loath to know Luis is her bio-dad, so I'm willing for her not to find out as long as she's in prison.
tofie--I was waiting for your take on the legal proceedings. I'm afraid we're all spoiled by American tv shows like Law and Order. As bad as it can be, it's better than the MTJS we keep being fed. I know, I know, they can't have the pre-trial and trial drag on for months in a tn, but overnight? Give me a break. I think Flippy is right, the judge was paid off to hear it quickly and get rid of Luis' estorbo in return for some quicky cash.
I agree with you that as long as Marissa remains conscious she doesn't need anyone else to give permission for surgery.
The court room drama was certainly confusing, what with there being no government prosecutor.
So, now Carlos has his soon-to-be son in an orphanage, and his novia in the clink.
David
Thank you very much. I will indeed post something when the show ends tonight to give you a heads up on whether I will need your help.
David
"How scary that Luis could be Marissa's medical surrogate, and maybe deny the surgery for the pacemaker!" So true, Aleta! Thank you for reminding us. I must confess that all my energy was expended in pity for Fernanda and anger at Pedro. Marissa is suffering too. Poor Carlos whose other trials and tribulations with "his soon-to-be son in an orphanage, and his novia in the clink" (great David) also escaped my main focus last night.
"Only a fraction of one percent is his honest desire to have future descendants". Indeed Anita! He is just a horrible excuse for a human being...the anvils can't come fast or furious enough!!
Diana
"Luis looks stunned for a hot Mexican minute and then dismisses the whole notion" I had to chuckle at that particular one but only for a moment because I found myself completely enraged with Pedro who as usual did nothing except scream yell and have a temper tantrum. I often wonder why Pedro can't get a handle on his emotions and just stiffen his spine and speak like a calm adult in control? I'm no Luis fan and you called it right Anita when you said he wouldn't believe it when he was told Fer was his daughter; but why would he? Amelia chose to speak up at the precise moment Fer is being dragged to prison and that spineless jellyfish Pedro did nothing except perpetuate the lie when he could have simply said "Yes, it's true, she is not mine and never has been" I wouldn't believe it either if I were Luis. Amelia and Pedro have lied for nineteen years, and Amelia continued to lie when he asked Amelia if his daughter was alive and he wanted to meet her. Pedro had opportunities to speak up as well.
"Pedro turns to look at Amelia with all the passive hate he can muster"
I'm laying this all at Amelia and Pedro's feet. Luis is who he is, but he made no oath to Fer, he doesn't know who she is. Pedro and Amelia are Fer's parents. Amelia at least tried last night, and I'll give her points for standing up for her daughter. Pedro is a selfish jerk and I just can't be bothered to feel anything but disgust for him right now. Pedro's idea of protecting Fer is tightly wrapped up in his hate of Luis and not wanting the bio father to have any relationship or contact with Fer.
Cami had some feverish regret last night. She has a choice to make, speak up for a friend who has been better to her than her own father, or choose to perpetuate a lie for two people who have never cared about her until she could do something to benefit them. I still have faith in Cami and I am rooting for her to stand up and decide she doesn't need a worthless father like Hernan.
What becomes of Don Fer now? Will he ever have a moment of clarity again? There has to be a lucid moment when he asks for Fer and is told what happens. Surely he will go forward and correct the lie? I don't see how this situation stands. Lord help Mariana and Hernan if Don Fer finds out.
"Ickyzzy arrives, hair and roller bag in tow" Hilarious! The actress is very pretty I have to say but that hair is it's own character. It tells the story of the hot mess.
"She decides life is worth living. She has people who love her. Life does not end here. She’s going to endure with a smile and look forward and have her dreams to keep her company at night" I had tears on my face, this poor beautiful creature. What did she ever do to deserve such venom by these people? I wanted to wrap my arms around her and hug her. It's so sad. I think I'm supposed to be solely angry at Luis/Cami/Mariana but I just find that most of my rage is sitting at Amelia and right now primarily at Pedro's feet. He could have stopped this right when she was being booked. At least Luis would have given it pause then and maybe the charges would have been put on hold to run a DNA test or for him to question Amelia regarding the truth.
Anita, as always, thanks for keeping us updated as always.
I just don't even know where to start. Cami and her stupidity. Mariana and her feigned concern for her niece and father.
Luis getting to *prosecute* when he isn't a *prosecutor* just a so-called powerful attorney who can't pay his own bills. Getting to force Fer on the stand, did Felipe ever ask a damn question? Cross-examine? Why was he even there? Worthless!
Putting an Alzheimer's patient on the stand when he is currently under a fog.
Pedro being so damn stupid that I'm becoming (if I wasn't already - but I was clinging on to hope) disenchanted with.
dy - don't forget Adelina and Lucero's parents. Awful parents. I think the only decent parent is Marissa and to some extent Lupe. She just doesn't like Clarita (that's that son thing that some mom's have so she gets a pass)
Poor Fer in jail and she gets her pillow taken by a guard, really?
I like the rest of you hope that her cellmate continues to be a nice person.
Two bright spots, Carlos confirms to the hairball that he wants to marry Fernanda LOL! Yeah, we know it won't happen and she knows that Fer is locked up - but the fact that she knows that HE WANTS TO MARRY HER...priceless! and Fer and her optimism (even though they have clouded it with doubts of Carlos) are what I have to hold on to.
There was no way in hell that that trial wasn't fixed. Even in the tn world that was too fast and he was extremely judgmental before hearing anything. That first judge (that ruled against Luis) would never have done that and 10 years a one-time scam and unconfirmed by a physician neglect of a patient? The foulness is so stinky that a waste treatment plant would relocate because of then stench.
Kendra that trial was ridiculous. I don't know much about Mexico's judicial system but I think in reality there is probably a bit more to it than what we saw last night. That was embarrassing and stupid even for this stellar TN. We were forced to suspend huge amounts of disbelief.
My 88 year old mamita watches this tn and she said she is completely fed up with Pedro. She also thinks Marissa is a nice lady but a bit manipulating of Carlos to the point he has become a mama's boy. Interesting thought.
I personally think that he's a mama's boy because of Luis. He has disliked to hated (after what Luis did to Fer who knows what level he will reach now) that man since his mother married him. He has seen Luis for who he is and has felt this overwhelming need to protect since he was about 10? or whatever that age was. Not to mention that his Nanny spoiled him and he's an only child with money and privilege. However, your mamita has given me a reason to reassess my almost untarnished view of Marissa when it comes to being a mother. As a women, she needs help. Still friends with a hairball and married to a swine. She needs real girlfriends her own age or close to her age.
So frustrated and I guess it's not going to get any better any time soon.
I don't think Marissa is a good mother but a woman married to a scoundrel who likely terrorized Carlos as she worked. Not his fault, Carlos is spoiled rotten, but at least he knows of the word no, don't and shut the hell up cause Marissa jumped in to defend Luis over and over again. Still does it.
Still of the opinion Fernanda can do way better than Carlos and nothing he's shown me so far makes me think he can save Fernanda from the chain gang. I pin my hopes on Fernanda's ability to land sunnyside up and won't be long before the nasty prison smells of Lysol, a bouquet in every cell and a talent show on Fridays.
My mamita has no get out of jail free cards for these people! ;-)
Tofie, she also agrees with you. Carlos is not deserving of Fernanda. He's way too wrapped up in his mama and she can't believe that a man as resourceful as Carlos can't find out what is happening to the "Love of his life". She thinks he should have found out by now and called someone in her immediate family or yeah, the Altamirano house to inquire.
I have a hard time believing Luis is an attorney. I just can't picture him being the studious type or ever passing the bar exam. He probably paid someone off. He keeps saying he's a respected attorney but it doesn't seem he has any clients. We never saw anyone blowing up his phone or rushing to his office to seek his supposed legal skills.
On earth did they even bring ol fer to court? absolutely no help whatsoever. Herby telling gis daughter she xan forget about him being her father, that would not be much of a stretch he's not that good of a father anyway. he's a leech like
Louy.
This trial was fixed. I agree with flippy phil, that judge has been bought by none other than louy the louse. As much as I hate to admit it but "the little swindler" does have her father's blood in her veins only she's not poison like he is. Just a bit To trusting.
Amelia asked what fer did to deserve this, well she trusted a back stabbin friend and lied, now that, I think she's maybe already paid for, now everything else is just plain cruel and nasty. Thanks to her loving family. Why does cami have a fever? Is that the guilt or appendicitis? Either way she should suffer, fer don't get a pass, she shouldn't either.
Marabell,Marabell, Marabell. Fernanda, Fernanda, Fernanda. these two young ladies have got a lot to learn about their so-called backstabbing friends. Fernando looks like she's ready to forgive cami, well she can forgive her but she better not ever trust her again. I don't know Maribel's story but I think before this tn is over we're going to find it out. And it probably will sound familiar to fernanda's. With friends like these, they don't need enemies.
If Amelia was counting on that information she gave Luis about fernanda being his daughter to get her daughter out of prison, she dropped that ball way too late. these are some of the sorriest parents I have ever seen in a very long time. So far this is a disaster, what's coming tonight?
David
(*) Fer decides not to let prison ruin her life; life is actually pretty good.
(*) Amelia and Blanca try to get Don Fer to remember Fernanda. He says if they say he knows her, then he must know her. Blanca tells him he likes her a lot and has been imprisoned unjustly. Amelia tells him he should go talk to the judge and tell him it was Mariana who was in charge of his treatment and medications. He agrees to go.
(*) Isyloca is having an emotional crisis right in Marissa’s hospital room because Carlos is going to marry the gardener’s daughter. Marissa is calm. Luis just watches. Isyloca shrieks hysterically. Luis finally tells her to suck it up, Carlos has made his decision. Isy tells Marissa she has to stop the wedding from taking place. Marissa tells her the girl is Carlos’ happiness and he says he now has a responsibility for her, although he wouldn’t tell Marissa what that was. Ickyzzy immediately jumps to the conclusion that the “dead fly” is pregnant. She just knows it. Luis is loving it that he can be on Marissa’s “side” without letting on he’s really on Isy’s “side,” although Isy doesn’t know it. Luis says, of course, it was all to trap Carlos into marriage and have access to all the Gomez-Ruiz wealth and have babies who will inherit it. All this brouhaha is giving Marissa a headache, but they keep it up.
(*) Carlos is at this moment calling Fernanda. Pedro takes the call on her cell phone and angrily tells Carlos he’s to blame for all the misfortunes his daughter is experiencing and to stay away from her. Ordoñez is with Carlos and hears his frustration. Carlos wonders why Pedro has Fer’s cell phone.
(*) Luis and Isy have left Marissa and have come to tell Carlos and Ignacio that Marissa wants to see both of them. Marissa tells Carlos that both Luis and Isy told her Fer is only with him for their money. Carlos says she herself should know that’s not true. Marissa wants them to delay the wedding for a bit. They need more time to strengthen their relationship. Marissa is afraid he’ll get tired of Fer the way he got tired of Isabela. Carlos admits he was dazzled by Isy, but it was not a serious relationship. Carlos wants to stop talking about it for the time being. Marissa says, no, it’s the right time to talk because a great fortune is riding on the decision.
She tells them she wants to change her will and leave everything to Carlos alone. She doesn’t want to leave anything to Luis. Marissa doesn’t want to wait. She urges Carlos to care for Fernanda and keep her safe from everyone who wants to harm her. This surprises Carlos. He wants names. Marissa just repeats, everybody. Lately she became aware of the strength of Luis’ desire to take revenge on Fer.
Luis has been listening through the partially open door. He’s seething as he hears Marissa giving Ordoñez the new terms of the will. He says to himself (and us) that he hasn’t worked this hard to take control of her bank to be left empty handed. That fortune is going to be his alone.
Ordoñez tells her he will prepare the documents for her signature and when they are ready, she can look them over and if she approves, he’s bring around a notary to witness her signature. Carlos says he’ll notify the hospital to bar Luis from entering her room. Marissa doesn’t want him to do that. He’s her husband. Yes, she’s aware he deceived her probably through their whole marriage, but she’s used to him. She doesn’t want him messing in her business affairs, but she does want him by her side through this illness. Carlos shakes his head in disbelief. The two men continue their conversation in the hall.
(*)Rosaura and Clarita have a chat over the phone about Fer and who put her there. Clarita will go see Fer the following day. She agrees with Rosaura that Luis is a monster, a dangerous man, and she should know. Rosaura presses her for details, but Clarita recalls Luis’ threats and clams up. Clarita promises to let Carlos know what is happening to Fer whenever it is he calls.
(*) This women’s prison looks more like the empty shell of a bombed out cathedral, but ni modo, Fer is visiting with Clarita. The gist of the conversation is that Fer does NOT want Carlos to know she’s in prison for the time being. He has enough worries with a sick mother and she doesn’t want him distracted from her care. She does learn Carlos went to the States with her. Clarita isn’t sure if Isy went with him, but she’s sure Isy is still stalking him. Fer is pinning her hopes of release on Don Fer giving a statement in her favor.
(*) Carlos greets his mother the next morning, but she doesn’t respond. He yells for help. (I guess there wasn’t time to change the will because she is next seen in the O.R. undergoing the procedure to implant the pacemaker.)
(*) Pedro is Fer’s next visitor. He brought her a flowering plant, but the guard won’t let her have it. (So how did he manage to bring it in?) They have to check it and if there’s nothing wrong with it, they’ll deliver it to her cell. (I doubt Fer will ever see it.) Father and daughter say nice things to each other. They exchange lots of hugs and kisses. In the background, Amelia is seen approaching. The joy the two have been sharing is instantly gone. Amelia says she’s Fer’s mother and wanted to come visit. Pedro says he’ll leave. Fer says no, the one who will leave is Amelia. She’s part of that gang that put her here and she wants nothing to do with her.
(*) Isy & Luis wait sipping coffee while Marissa is being operated on. Isy hasn’t thought of a way to stop Carlos from marrying that girl. Every day he is more distant. Luis tells her she’d better hurry because Carlos might even marry her while she’s in prison. Changing the subject, Isy noticed how sure Luis was when he told Carlos he was going to get his hands on Marissa’s bank. Luis as good as tells her he’s smarter than Carlos and has an ace up his sleeve. He’s not going to share his strategy with her because he saw how she got weak-kneed at the spa. He prefers to fly solo. His future is secure, but the best thing that could happen would be for Marissa to die on the operating table.
(*) It’s breakfast time at the Altamirano hacienda. Blanca is hurrying Don Fer so they can go talk to the judge. He says he can’t remember anything, but if his statement will help an innocent person go free, he’s willing. Mariana is ripping into Blanca that Fernanda is a convicted felon. Blanca says Mariana darn well knows that isn’t true. Cam jumps up and leaves the table. She’s the one who feels guilty.
(*) Fer tells Pedro her cellmate is a good person, even though she’s in for robbery. Sometimes good people do bad things. Flippy joins them. He tells the two that Don Fer is going to give a statement in Fer’s favor. He hopes the judge will listen. Don Fer is well respected in the community and Fer is very young (and really, a first time offender). Flippy leaves for the courthouse.
(*) An operating room nurse comes out to tell Carlos and Iggy that Marissa stopped breathing. She can’t tell them anymore than that. She has to go back to the O.R. Carlos wants to follow her in. Iggy stops him. They have to wait.
(*) Fer is trying to tell Pedro to stay positive. When she mentions Carlos’ name—how if he were there...Pedro cuts her off. He doesn’t want his name mentioned in his presence ever again. Doesn’t she realize that all her problems began when Carlos came into her life? Fer says that’s not true; Pedro says yes it is. Pedro says he hates Carlos, hates him with all his strength. He and Luis are just alike, both come from the same bad mold. She’s sure Carlos will help her once he comes. Pedro says she’s fooling herself. He won’t help. (Of course he won’t if Pedro is keeping him away from Fer.)
(*) Dr. Espinoza stabilizes Marissa, fortunately for all.
(*) Waiting outside the judge’s chambers, Blanca is prompting Don Fer with what he is to say about Fer. It actually goes well, Flippy nodding in agreement behind him. What they don’t know is that Mariana is giving Luis a phone update on Don Fer’s statement. She already talked to the judge and whose testimony obviously carried more weight. Luis is not to worry, the swindler won’t get out.
Don Fer’s efforts fall apart when the judge asks him the date, the names of his children and which one is the older child. The judge scolds Flippy and warns him he could lose his license. Flippy and Don Fer leave the chambers. Judge Suarez immediately calls Mariana to tell her everything went perfectly well.
(*) Rosaura and Sor Sonrisa have come to visit Fer and join with Pedro. Rosaura and all the people that love her know she’s innocent. Fer is sure that Flippy will arrive at any moment to tell her the nightmare is over. Regrettably, he arrives and the look on his face tells the whole story. Fer tells the nuns and Pedro they all have to stay strong and look forward.
(*) Dr. Espinoza tells Carlos and Iggy they were able to get air into Marissa’s lungs, but she’s on an artificial respirator for now. They did implant the pacemaker successfully. They’ve taken Marissa to intensive care. Luis and Izzyfrizzy arrive from wherever they were. Luis is disappointed Marissa isn’t dead.
(*) Fer has more visitors. The nuns leave. The visitors are Blanca and Don Fer. Blanca gives Fer a big hug and calls her the deferential, “Niña Fernanda,” saying that is who she really is. Don Fer says he’s sorry he can’t remember the young woman in prison he’s supposed to like so much, but Fer must be the one. She nods. They hug.
(*) Carlos keeps watch over Marissa through the window of the intensive care suite.
(*) Paco is sad. He ticks off the names of all the people who haven’t been to see him lately. He’s been abandoned in the orphanage.
(*) The ICU alarms go off in Marissa’s room. She’s distressed. Carlos panics. The staff runs into the room and the blinds are closed to work on her. Carlos turns away and is left in tears.
"This women’s prison looks more like the empty shell of a bombed out cathedral" (so true!) and "Fer tells Pedro her cellmate is a good person, even though she’s in for robbery. Sometimes good people do bad things" were among my favorites.
As upsetting and unjust as Fernanda's incarceration is, my heartache for her transformed into the beginning of a bit of loathing for Pedro. "Carlos is at this moment calling Fernanda. Pedro takes the call on her cell phone and angrily tells Carlos he’s to blame for all the misfortunes his daughter is experiencing and to stay away from her". That was nauseating enough but then he tells his daughter, who is in JAIL that "he hates Carlos, hates him with all his strength. He and Luis are just alike, both come from the same bad mold". He cannot set aside his bitterness at what might be taken from HIM for the good of his daughter in JAIL as all that matters is his ego. Selfish and self centered are inadequate to describe him. He is the master manipulator, isn't he?
"Fer says no, the one who will leave is Amelia. She’s part of that gang that put her here and she wants nothing to do with her". I know Amelia was a monster for years. But, I am troubled that the kind, generous Fernanda can forgive everyone else (and overlook her father's irrational tirades), but could not extend even a small olive branch to her mother. Could "thank you" have been too much? It is obvious Fernanda is not at all ready to begin the journey of forgiving her mother.
Marissa continues to puzzle. "Yes, she’s aware he deceived her probably through their whole marriage, but she’s used to him. She doesn’t want him messing in her business affairs, but she does want him by her side through this illness. Carlos shakes his head in disbelief'. I was shaking my head too. I might get "used" to a caged python but I don't think it is a good idea to let it be close to me. Sigh.
Is Carlos ever going to find out Fernanda is in jail??
Anita, thank you for doing this. You have really brought our small group together and made each of us feel special and valuable. My day is happier now because I have your words to treasure and savor.
Diana
Like Diana I was struck with your image of "the empty shell of a bombed out cathedral," and I thought that that mind picture may mean nothing to the current generation, but speaks volumes to those of us whose fathers served during WWII.
Diana, I too thought that it was out of character for saintly Fer who forgives everyone everything to not be able to even greet or thank her mother for stopping by to visit her.
And, like many of you, I am getting tired of Pedro's tirades, and especially for his motivations for trying to push Carlos out of Fer's life. I wish that Fer would say, "Fine, but you are going to have to choose whether you want me in your life, because Carlos is going to be in mine."
So Marianna is the one who bought off the judge! She obviously fed him some telling questions to ask Don Fer. I am really hoping to see the whole lot of them in the clink when this is over.
I thought that the surgical scene where they intubated Marissa was wildly, hilariously inaccurate. You can put in a nasogastric tube like that (if you're lucky) but not a tube for breathing (you need a laryngoscope). Besides, if this is going to be a long standing problem, they should have done a tracheotomy.
So, in net, I am angrier with Pedro, and feeling sorry for Carlos, who has so much on his plate, and little hope of resolving things in the short term.
Thanks again, Anita.
David
I cannot think of anyone with the smarts to get Fernanda out except Ordoñez.
Felipe is no lawyer. He ask his godmother to take Fernando to see the judge. That's all he's got?
I have no problem with Fernanda's ire toward her mother and hope she never forgets. Amelia was her mother yet Fernanda was blamed for Amelia's poor choice in men but it didn't end there. It was passive loathing and viscous verbal attacks on Fernanda that confused and beat down the girl her whole life. It wasn't even withholding of a mothers love because Amelia didn't love her own flesh. Piss off Amelia!
And Pedro, what a sorry excuse riding on his doting father meme and while I believe he unselfishly loves Fernanda, his relationship with her is all he was ever gonna get of Amelia so Fernanda becomes a pawn.
Marissa has lost her bloody mind. Let's see, Luis has a better chance of success contesting a will that gives all her assets to her son if he is her husband than if he is her ex.
David--"And, like many of you, I am getting tired of Pedro's tirades, and especially for his motivations for trying to push Carlos out of Fer's life. I wish that Fer would say, 'Fine, but you are going to have to choose whether you want me in your life, because Carlos is going to be in mine.'" This is one scene I'd love to watch to see Pedro's reaction.
tofie--"And Pedro, what a sorry excuse riding on his doting father meme and while I believe he unselfishly loves Fernanda, his relationship with her is all he was ever gonna get of Amelia so Fernanda becomes a pawn." I think you nailed this one. Fer as pawn, but also as substitute lover.
Anita says: My kind thoughts toward Pedro are changing, too. I thought it was enough to put him on the "good guys" list, having raised a decent girl in the face of all their adversity. But no. He does not OWN Fernanda. A good parent can only go so far to protect a grown child from making mistakes. Advice--Yes; Interfering in their lives--No.
This must be the pivotal episode issue for us as we recognize that Pedro is Fer's true villain and worst enemy. Luis is going to shoot himself in the groin sooner or later. HissyFit is going to go bonkers sooner or later. Flippy seems to have moved on (I hope). Camila is really unimportant in the big picture--Fer can get along without her. Amelia is trying to make up for all the harm she already caused.
One thing I remembered as I scrolled through past episodes. Fernanda knows Pedro is not her bio-dad, someone else is, but she doesn't know who that man is. She told Blanca (I think), that she's not interested in finding out. However, she's been getting clues right and left from Pedro with his antagonistic attitude toward Luis, especially since he won't tell her why he hates him and now that hate is extended to Carlos. I believe last night is the first time he has verbalized it so strongly to Fer. Before it was just an irrational "stay away from Carlos because I said so, I'm your father."
tofie--For now I'm with you on Fernanda's attitude toward her mother. Seeing her, talking to her, only makes Fernanda recall what living with her growing up was like. It hurts. Fer wants to move on. She already told Amelia she forgave her (when she started working for Don Fer and saw Amelia there). That doesn't mean she has to be in a mother-daughter relationship with Amelia and told her so.
I'm not saying that can't or won't change, but for now, she has enough on her shoulders, especially if the one person she chose to love and be with for the rest of her life disappears from her life (I'm only speculating--but where's the story if he comes back and he and Ordonez get her out of prison. He was Don Fer's doctor, after all and can attest just as forcefully to Fer's care of Don F. So, no, Pedro is going to keep Carlos away by hook or by crook--I think he'll try the crooked way.)
Next, I agree with all of you about Pedro. What I will add is that he not only has anger issues, he is a hypocrite. How can you say that you hate Marissa's (who you deem as a wonderful women) son who must have been influenced by that a$$, but you raised your daughter (who you believe is the sweetest girl in the world) who lived under the influence of her spiteful, hate filled, real mother (in a much smaller home?) You did like Carlos and thought he was an awesome guy (yeah, he didn't break up with that fur ball in time) but he showed no signs of what you know Luis is capable of until you found out he was his stepson. He can't be a good guy raised with at least one good parent? But your daughter is?
Felipe, Felipe, Felipe...he's as good of an attorney as Luis. I gave him a pass when he first graduated law school - but you went to further your studies in Argentina (you came back lol) how do you suck more than when you left?
Yes tofie, please hurry up Ordonez!
Marissa, I was struggling with understanding why she would want Luis around. I've come up with this...she doesn't trust him, she refuses to leave him money, but she is an insecure woman who thinks that Luis is the best she can get and now that she is sick what other man is going to stand by her side? I'm not saying that it makes sense, but it's what I believe is her rationale - in her current state.
I think that if she somehow comes out of this debilitating situation (not the disease going away, but her current funk and adjustment to the reality) then he's probably done. Especially if somehow she and Pedro or maybe even Ordonez (hmmm) manage to find feelings for one another and she doesn't have that dependency on Luis.
I see why Fer is still mad and wants nothing to do with Amelia. I haven't forgiven her either. Fer is like her father in this respect. Amelia hurt her dad and that was enough! She really hasn't had the time to want to forgive her mom and her dad will have a lot to do with that forgiveness.
I stand by her dad having a big part in whether or not she is able to accept the olive branch. If he stops freakin the hell out about everything.
Pedro is obsessed and the hazy cloud of anger, resentment and jealousy clouds his vision further. I understand his opinion of Luis and his apprehension that Luis would take his "child" away. But including Carlos in that thought process is ludicrous. Guilt by association makes no sense. Marissa had the bad taste to marry Luis and poor Carlos bore the brunt of anger over this unholy union, b being hated by both Luis and Pedro. Carlos has suffered at Luis' hands but he has survived although Marissa did not defend her son the way she should have early on.
tofie and Kendra, I am also hoping Ignacio rides to the rescue. And soon. Fernanda surely can't rot in jail too long, can she? Kendra, I also think that Luis prays on Marissa's insecurities. Some feel it's better to have someone than no one. Even if that someone is despicable. Not my choice but I don't condemn, even though I don't comprehend.

Speaking of frustration, I am really getting tired of pedro's attitude towards Carlos. He need to stop being made with Carlos, he does know that Louis is not carlos father right? So why does he hate Carlos so much? the man loves his daughter and he's very worried about her and all he can think of to do is blame him for everything that Fernanda is going through. Well he's wrong. Her mama and him is to blame for that, they should have spoke up and she wouldn't be sitting in that prison (that's looking like a blown out church ) for women. And some of the blame is on fer too. She should not have listened to her friend.
If that judge has been bought, those gaurds in that prison can be too. Izzyfrizzy could get desperate. Watch out fer. She hates fernanda that much. And does everyone get to be forgiven but mom? Fernanda? I Agree Anon, her dad is tellin her how much he hates her boyfriend, and shes forgiving. And why isn't carlos calling his house, or aunty sister the nun? I will be very frustrated in the following weeks, cuz some of these supposed good people are going to piss me off. Pedro is already topping that list. He's thinkin more of himself than the daughter he loves so much. He's not going to loose her. He's got anger management problems. And fer has forgiveness problems. And Im with carlos, what the hell is up with his mother? Wantin the leech by her side? STOP THE MADNESS!!!!!!
THANK YOU ANITA!!! GOOD RECAP GIRL, GOOD RECAPE!!!! :-)
Boy oh boy, I'm glad to know that I am not alone in my opinion of Pedro. I truly can't stand him and at this point I don't wish him on anyone. Pedro is a selfish, obsessive control freak and I don't see his relationship with Fer as healthy. It can't be because it's built on lies and manipulation. Pedro has been a world class temper tantrum thrower everytime he feels himself losing his grip on Fer. I never liked Amelia and I don't like the way she treated Pedro who's only crime was to fall in love with her and provide a home for her and her daughter. However, she didn't love him and she never did. That's not her fault, and I can understand her being a bit bitter at her life slipping by in marriage that was loveless. We can't make ourselves feel something we don't. I think Pedro tried to guilt her into staying by bringing up Fer and how they needed to do it for her.
I think Fer needs time to process her feelings for her mother, but Pedro always heralding himself as the best parent and playing the wounded victim all the time will not help and Fer feels a sense to protect him after his breakdown. In many ways I think Pedro knows this and may subconsciously use this to his advantage. It sickens me.
Strangely the person I think Fer needs the most and who could actually help her the most, is her mother. I think if mother and daughter could heal and form a relationship, that Fer would see her mother will give her the best advice and the freedom to grown as person. Pedro is holding on too tight and smothering Fer. I hope she finds out what he did to Carlos and reads him the riot act.
On another note, isn't it weird that Fer had to go to prison to get the best hair yet of this whole TN? Her hair is laid like a goddess! Izzy needs to go to the Prison Salon stat!

Diana, there are so many "I got a man" (I used man as an example for all) people out there that it doesn't matter what they do, "they always come home to me".
I see Marissa in this same boat. It's not so much that she forgave him for the affair (that happens) it's the low-down, dirty, pulled a gun on my child, hell bent on destroying a little girl, evil person that she knows she is living with that is the disturbing part. Oh well, on to what happens next.
This tn moves fast and has more ups/downs/twists and turns than the rides at an amusement park. My emotions are all over the place with this peace of fiction.
BUT Delilah LMAO!!! "On another note, isn't it weird that Fer had to go to prison to get the best hair yet of this whole TN? Her hair is laid like a goddess! Izzy needs to go to the Prison Salon stat!"
I'm over here dying!
