Sueño de Amor (SdA) #82. Friday July 8, 2016. There’s A New Coupling In Sueñolandia And It’s A Match Made in Blah!

Prince Charming and Dora the Explorer had a kid and he is getting married in Sueñolandia next week.
At a glance

-- Baby Luca is Luca’s baby. Anastasia jubilates while Pato pouts.
-- Cristina is a bore. Ricardo is a ho.
-- There is a double boda next week.

A closer look

The DNA test results confirm that Baby Luca is Luca’s son. Anastasia is overjoyed and starts making demands already:
  • She wants to register the kid, because she didn’t think to register him before dumping him on her mother QEPD.
  • She wants to baptize the kid, because even though the walls bleed any time she enters a church, she still has a spiritual side.
  • She wants to introduce the kid into society, because she needs everyone and their grandma to know he is Luca de la Colina’s son.
  • She wants Luca to take the kid off her hands for a while, because she says she hasn’t gotten a good night’s sleep in over a week. In reality, what she meant to say is that it’s been a while since she roamed the city at night stealing other people’s essences.
I suggest adding another item to the happy parents’ to-do list: Start a therapy savings fund pronto. Little Luca will need an army of head-shrinkers in order to help him get through life and survive that insane family. The fund could also double up as bail and/or lawyer money, in case the kid loses his marbles por completo and ends up shooting up the school, a few years down the line.

At Casa Vélez Valderrama, something distasteful is underway. Alas, all that crying and whimpering in full makeup was for naught! Now that her long lost daughter is finally home after a year of cruel separation, Cristina is spending yet another evening with a perfect stranger, instead of dedicating quality mommy-daughter time to her little Abril, as any regular mother would. La Virgencita de la Paz is taking a mental note of this for when Cristina starts praying her problems away again. No more miracles for you! Anyhoo, the distressed mother, who just recuperated her missing child, sucks face with the bozo, who was dying of love for his fiancée and one-true-love only 6 or 7 weeks ago. Cristina and Ricardo continue addressing each other with the formal “usted” even though their respective tongues are poking deep inside each other’s throats. Deep are also the brooms that appear to be stuck up their respective posteriors. The doorbell rings. It’s a surprise delivered directly to Casa Vélez Valderrama! Ricardo ordered flowers, champagne, chocolates and a gourmet dinner to be prepared by a professional chef and served by two professional waiters. And to think he made Esperanza’s kids wait on their mother and him during the proposal-less romantic dinner he organized a few weeks earlier. Tsk tsk tsk! “What are we celebrating?”, asks Cristina. “The pleasure of your company!”, replies the smooth serial seductor. He winces when she touches his stomach. She lifts up his shirt to get a good look at his bronzed abs the burns her ex-husband caused Ricardo during that risible torture scene, a couple of episodes back. She laments what happened that day. Moreover, she appreciates the things Ricardo has done for her and for her kid, whom she has been ignoring ever since her return. Ricardo says he is prepared to do anything for Cristina. She asks for specifics. He says he is prepared to win over her heart and weasel his way into her pants, if she gives him permission to do so. She does. Esperanza who? Abril who? Recently-kidnapped Selena and Rodrigo who?

At the hospital, Esperanza is with her kids and her faithful squire, Ernesto. Pato receives a phone call. Luca asks her to come down to the parking lot because he can’t come up. They need to talk. Pato et al. act intrigued: How strange! What could be happening, I wonder? Oh give it a rest, will ya? The only Luca-related subject that you rehashed 72 times already over the past 24 hours is Baby Luca’s paternity and the DNA test result.

The romantic dinner continues and the insipid twosome fawn over each other and marvel at how wonderful, tender, noble and amazing they are. They gaze into each other’s eyes and soak up each other’s awesomeness. They thank each other for giving one another a renewed desire to live. They point out the irony of disliking each other so much at the beginning only to end up like this, oozing schmaltz and tackiness. They conclude that it’s the process of finding Abril, all 48 hours of it, that got them to know each so well and fall for each other so hard. Andrés the nanny calls and interrupts the smooching. The kids want ice-cream. Ricardo says no and keeps firm. Cristina is impressed by how strict he is. Abril gets her daily 5-minute quota of motherly attention over the phone. The insipid twosome get back to their smooching.

Pato gets confirmation of what she had suspected for a while: Baby Luca is Luca’s son. She acts like this is brand-new information and like Luca had conceived this baby by cheating on her with another woman. She stomps away in a huff.

Anastasia is excited and wants to celebrate with Kracy and fine champagne. Kracy has no cause to celebrate since Tricky Ricky has another novia

Tacky proposal número uno is underway. Viviana hasn’t yanked that redonkulous wig off Mario’s head and thrown him out her house yet. Mario asks Viviana to marry him, though he knows he is no Prince Charming (príncipe azul) and he is not worthy of her. The groveling, the tawdry costume and the awful wig do the trick, because Viviana accepts.

Tacky proposal número dos is underway. Félix is still wearing the parakeet costume with the rainbow wings that he stole at this year’s Gay Pride march. He tells Margarita to remember that the way to enter his heart is through his beak (pico). “And now, search! Enter through my beak until you reach my heart so you can find the famous goods I’ve been hiding!”. I bet you there is some shroomery going on during the writing of this show's dialogue. You gotta be tripping something funny to come up with stuff like this! Anyhoo, the beak search yields a ring, Félix asks Margarita to be his wife and, lo and behold, she says yes.

It’s Smine product placement time! Luca changes the baby’s diaper in the hospital underground parking. He says he is sorry the baby has a mother like Anastasia and he hopes Pato gets used to the idea of Luca being a father. She could be Baby Luca’s auntie.

Anastasia is still drinking. She tells Kracy she hope her baby will separate Luca and Pato for good.

Back at the hospital, Pato is whinging. What else is new? She is very confused (hecha bolas) by the baby news. She even felt like pushing Luca against the car when he gave her the results of the DNA test. Pedro says this situation isn’t Luca’s fault. “It’s not his fault? It’s not his fault that he... you know what?” Pato meant sex. It’s Luca’s fault he had sex with Anastasia when Pato wasn’t even part of his life. How dare he have sex with the woman he loved and planned to marry? Luca should’ve saved himself for Pato, whom he didn’t even know at the time, but who cares? Luca should’ve predicted he would meet Pato one day and he should’ve worn a chastity belt until the day Pato meets him and agrees to be his girlfriend! Make that until the day Pato deigns to sleep with him. It has been several months of dating and a few weeks of engagement and still no nookie for Luca! “What happened happened in the past, says Pedro, “We're now in the present and Luca loves you”. Pato can’t stand the fact that the baby will be a constant reminder that her fiancé had sex with his ex. She also feels that Anastasia and the baby will stand between her and Luca forever. “Sometimes love isn't enough!” moans the terminally-pouty Pato. She asks Pedro about Kristel. He says he doesn’t understand the reasoning behind the “I’m exiling myself to Barcelona” baloney because he hasn’t spoken to Kristel yet.

A drunk Anastasia plays with Kracy’s hair and confesses that she is physically attracted to her. Wow! Anastasia has awful taste in men AND women!

At the hospital, Esperanza appears to be having a bad dream. Ernesto places a comforting hand on her shoulder. He flashbacks to his killing of Murillo. A hospital admin worker, straight out of the 1930s, barges into the room and loudly announces that Ernesto’s credit card was declined. Esperanza awakes. Ernesto drags the admin out and berates her for entering the room at this late hour in this abrupt way, waking up the patient in the process. He takes out all his credit cards and asks her to choose any one she wants. The admin says she is only doing her job. Ernesto replies she ought to show some tact and respect towards the patients in the exercise of her job. She says she is going to complain to her boss about Ernesto’s attitude. He tells her she has no boss because she has no job! Ernesto will see to it that she is fired!

At Casa Alegría, Cristina is going to sleep in Ricardo’s bed, sans Ricardo. Hold up! Why isn’t this woman sleeping at her place? Her house is safe enough for romantic dates but not for spending the night? How is this awkward sleeping arrangement appropriate for her kid or for Ricardo’s kids? Ricardo kisses Cristina goodnight and leaves. 5 seconds later, she says out loud: “I think I’m gonna fall in love with you, Ricardo Alegría”. Off course, Ricardo Alegría hasn’t had the chance to get out of earshot and he asks what she just said. She denies saying anything and wonders whether he came back because he forgot something. He says he is unable to explain why he can’t stand to be separated from her. She too has the same feeling and she is unable to explain it. I, however, am perfectly able to explain that feeling: It’s called being horny. Ricardo asks if he can kiss Cristina again. She says she accepts to process (tramitar) the proper permission paperwork to allow the kiss to happen. They kiss.

Kracy is impactada by Anastasia’s drunken confession. Anastasia says she meant what she said. She is attracted to Kracy and, as Bill Murray once said, drunk people, children and leggings always tell the truth.

Viviana is excited about all the changes that happened in her life. Love transforms everything and it transformed her world too: She learnt to love herself, her children and Mario. And now the MAPA School project is providing her with yet another source of positive change. She says she needs to discuss specifics of the MAPA School project with Esperanza but Mario says first things first. They have to start planning their wedding right away because they are getting married on the same day as Margarita and Félix. Oh, and the wedding has to be next week because terminally-snivelly Kristel wants to attend it before she buggers off to Barcelona and spares us the displeasure of looking at her annoying mopey face.

At Casa Manzanares, Margarita also agrees to the double wedding. Silvana swears she won’t allow the happy couples to tie the knot. She decides to dedicate half the money from the sale of Viviana’s diamond to sabotaging the boda doble

Back at the hospital, Esperanza can’t believe her children lied to her about the payment of her medical bills when they know she hates lies so much. She has a mini-fit because Ernesto paid for her hospital stay. The money saved your life, lady, so take a chill pill and go back to sleep! Pato snaps at her mom: A day in intensive care costs mucho moolah and the money Esperanza had could barely pay for disposable tissues (pañuelos desechables) and syringes (jeringas). Ernesto makes a suggestion to appease the terminally-proud Esperanza: Once the sale of the MAPA School land is finalized, she can pay him back the money he put towards her surgery.

Viviana notices that her diamond ring is in fact a cubic zirconia ring. Luca arrives with the baby. Mother and son exchange the exciting and not-so-exciting news they each received today. Viviana holds her grandson in her arms and Luca shares his fears of losing Pato.

Back at the hospital, Pato tells Pedro that her duty is to runteldat about Ricardo and the new directora or else Esperanza will get mad about yet another lie.

Someone fell asleep in the editing room again because, after wishing each other good night and retiring to their sleeping quarters, Ricardo is now shown working in his living room. Cristina comes in to ask if she can help him. “Remember, I’m the firewoman of education!”, she coos. “Yes, but instead of putting out the fire, you stoke it (avivar el fuego)!”. Ricardo toots his own horn: He is a very good primary teacher. Indeed, confirms Cristina, but there is always room for improvement. She playfully orders Ricardo to get back to work or else she would have to report him. She says she noticed that he has been very distracted lately. He admits that he has had a really beautiful distraction lately and he admires Cristina’s body as she sashays out of the living room. He gets back to preparing tomorrow’s class and finds a photo of Esperanza inside one of the books. He wonders out loud: “Is it possible that I’m forgetting you, Esperanza?” You're not in the process of forgetting Esperanza. She is already well and truly forgotten.

Back at the hospital, Pato informs her mom that Ricardo may be dating Cristina VV.

Baby Luca is keeping his daddy up while his mommy is passed out drunk on her living room sofa. Kracy is freaking out because of what Anastasia told her earlier. She is worried she’ll be thrown out of the apartment if she doesn’t respond to Anastasia’s advances. I hardly call someone saying they find you attractive an advance but juaréver.

Ricardo thinks back to Cristina’s praise for his noble behavior and altruistic nature (see quote below) and he smiles that smug self-satisfied smile that makes me want to backhand him across the face! Pompous manho! Boooo!

Esperanza tells Pato that this is exactly what she wanted: For Ricardo to be happy with someone else, and who better than Cristina VV? She is a beautiful and capable woman. Ernesto asks who CVV is. Esperanza says that she met her at a congress a while back and CVV is now the new directora of Instituto Palacios. Moreover, she is subbing for Esperanza during her two-week leave. Ernesto says that nobody could ever substitute her. Esperanza concludes with much sadness: It looks like Cristina has already replaced me. Pato and Ernesto wish Esperanza a restful night and take their leave. Pedro is the one staying the night with his mom tonight. He asks how she really feels now that it’s just the two of them in the room. Esperanza tearfully admits that she is hurt and jealous but this is what she herself wanted. As they say, be careful what you wish for (ten cuidado con lo que deseas). Her wish was fulfilled and Ricardo found a new opportunity to live his life with a good woman who will make him very happy.

A quote from the capítulo

“¡Tú eres el campeón de la nobleza! Hiciste por mi lo que ninguna persona ha hecho en mi vida. ¡Eres muy noble! ¡Me ayudaste de una manera desinteresada y me devolviste las ganas de vivir!”*

*Cristina inflates Ricardo’s ego some more: “You are the champion of nobleness! You did for me what nobody has ever done in my life. You are very noble! You helped me selflessly and you gave me back the desire to live!” Aaahahahaha! No wonder this woman thought Óscar was marriage material!

Hello amigowz! Hope all is well. Sorry this is posted later than usual but I've been catching up on sleep the past two days and I just managed to watch the last two episodes this morning.

Many thanks for Thursday's recap, Pablo! I'm getting ready to have lunch and savor your excellent prose! I'll make sure there is nothing splashable nearby because I know rip-roaring laughter will ensue.

Enjoy the recap and discussion! am I being too testy with Ricardo or is this guy becoming more and more disappointing with every passing episode? I'm also really ticked off at Osorio for ruining the Ernesto character beyond fixing. There was a golden chance to redeem him but it was passed up to make him pursue hare-brained murder plots that other villains could have implemented. What a missed opportunity! We could've had an interesting story of old lovers forgiving each other and coming together in a time of crisis to give one another solace, strength and hope. Oh well.

Catch ya later! :)

Nandicta, what an enjoyable and funny recap. Ricardo and kristina are sickeningly falling for each other. Why isn't she in her own house. Now if its because she has bad memories of havin the crap beat out of her by oscar, thats really kind of understandable. But then she should go home and stop shackin up with the teacher from the school shes the boss of him in, and go to her own home. Oscar is locked up. Theres no danger in the foreseeable future. Weird weird happenins With these two.

I see no good reason for espy to have broken it off with ricky. But she did, so I wont go over that again. Its so very exhausting just thinkin about it.

Fake DNA Testing just foolin everybody. I quess murry got the chance to change the test after all. That poor kid, his dad's a Murderer his mom is just screwed up and his big bro is.......stuck between a rock and a whinning nag, who may or may not end up being his stepmom (because of the fake DNA test), or his sister in-law. O yeah...he'll need a therapy fund. A large one. And also his grandma is about to marry into a whole family of wackos. O yeah a very large
Fund. For therapy.

And as for fake diamonds, cz's are beautiful, or bella lucis .he should gotten her a bella, then viv wouldn't have gotten much money for that. Future funny nuptials to come.

Thanks Nandicta. Very funny recap.

Thanks, Nandi, I liked it very much and I couldn't help to burst a big laugh when I read: Anastasia has bad taste in men AND WOMEN!!

So, I am guessing ''runteldat'' is the english counterpart to our ''correveydile''.

Thanks again, very good!

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment, Nina!
You are right about Cristina and Ricardo, "weird weird happenings with these two" indeed! For the sake of her child and in light of the trauma Abril suffered over the year she was abducted, Cristina should not be focused on anything other than her daughter, no dating or romance and much less partically moving in with a strange man she met barely 3 or 4 weeks ago. Her abusive relationship with her ex-husband should make Cristina extra-cautious about jumping in with both feet in another relationship with yet another man she barely knows. Besides, someone who forgets his love of 20 years in just 6 weeks or so is not to be trusted. There is also the issue you raised of dating a subordinate. Isn't it forbidden for El Palacios' staff to date? Shouldn't the new directora hired to reestablish discipline and academic excellenc be the first to abide by the rules?

As regards Baby Luca's paternity, we don't know for sure whether Murillo has had a chance to falsify them or not before Ernesto dispatched him to the other neighbor in the great beyond. What we know for sure is that the poor kid has awful luck belonging to this family of nutcases. Whether his dad is Luca Sr or Ernesto, the baby is stuck with Anastasia as mother and with Pato as either stepmom or half-sister. Either way, as you rightly pointed out, Baby Luca is "stuck between a rock and a whining nag"!

Many thanks, Pablo! For your nice comment and for your hilarious Thursday recap which I just finished reading a little while ago. I noticed that in our respective recaps, we both referred to Cristina and Ricardo as a "coupling", rather than a "couple". Their supposed romance feels forced and disingenuous and it's not just because of the super fast timeline or their complicated emotional baggage. I can't feel any spark. It's just Ricardo's lines, Cristina's lines, Ricardo's seductive pose, Cristina's seductive pose, and so on and so forth.

Or perhaps we are asking too much of the Lala marketing people. They can't write novelas. Their job is to sell dairy!

Thanks for "correveydile"! Another fun word to add to my collection. :)

Thanks!

It goes both ways because I am also learning a lot here.
I might not like the occasional novela but at the end of the day is the company and the things we share what is worth my time.

Is funny how we all see the same thing but give it a personal touch.
I am like the little prince's fox and every day while I watch the episode, depending on the recapper, I am guessing how their reaction would be. I just love the take everyone does transforming them completely into very funny stuff.

Thanks again!

Nandicta...I am not watching this tn, but I had to say "hi" and tell you that I miss your sassy wit after reading the caption under that picture. Ha. Loved it...DOra the EXplorer abd Prince CHarming's love child !!! P.s. DId you watch OUtlander this season?

Thanks, Nandicta. What an entertaining accompaniment with my café this afternoon! Great job!

I totally agree that Pato's reaction to Luca being the father was way off. She was so SHOCKED! If she cannot accept the idea of him with the kid and Anastasia tied to his back, break up with him already! I am so sick of her hemming and hawing.

Early on I said that it seemed that Osorio was trying to include everything in this one novela: so now we find out that Anastasia is bisexual: she is attracted to Tracy. Is he trying to go for the "Orange is the New Black" audience? Very funny. Guess there is a "check" now in that column.

When Luca was left with Luquita, all I could think was what a good PSA for men: never trust your partner for birth control or you could end up like Luca tied for life to a crazy Anastasia on his back.

Yes, the proposals were lame. On to the weddings. When will Viviana let it slip to Mario that the stone is a CZ? Really must be a bad one for her to be able to tell by eye.

The continued usage of "usted" between Ricardo and Cristina made me think of "La fea más bella" where Leti and Fernando finally call each other "tú" after the wedding when they catch themselves as wife and husband still calling each other "usted". This "usted" usage is not so charming.

Esperanza the hippocrite is angry the kids LIED to her about how her hospital bills were being paid? Really??? As for Ricardo and Cristina getting together, Esperanza should be dancing with happiness: she kept the truth from him and he went on with his life. Isn't that what she wanted?

I am still liking Ernesto.

Some people think that laughter is the best medicine, but maybe not in Esperanza's case, or she could burst her stitches, That's why Osorio has NOT INCLUDED here PATCHES ADAME, the clown doctor (maybe will sow up during the chemotherapy sessions? Jajajaja!)

Now that would be funny in a grotesque sort of way. It would sure fit in with the total production. Good idea, Pablo!

Ok guys Im at a lost when it comes to other languages. What is "Usted", andTu, and Ut? Did I even spell them right? Are these pet names that ricky and kris call each other? Inquiring minds want to know. At least mine does. Kracy looked
Like she wanted to book it outta there in a hurry. I don't blame her, nacha is a nutjob.

If luca is crazy enough to marry that woman.......well he just better not. What if that baby don't belong to luca or erny? I hope not erny, Im done with him hes a cold blooded killer. And hes twisted with It too. There was hope for him before
He spilt blood. Ricardo will probably end up killing, if kracy don't beat him to it. Or nacha. Its a toss up.

Hi Nina
I remember covering this topic in the beginning of EHDLS and someone saying that it was just like french.

Usted, Ud. is how we address respectfully the elder, bosses, parents, etc. and
Tú (tutear) is informally for friends and people our age.

Cristina and Ricardo flip flop between both because in the Institute they are boss and employee, but in the bedroom, hold on, because they're on fire!!!

Woooohoooo Nandicta, lay it down girl.

"continue addressing each other with the formal “usted” even though their respective tongues are poking deep inside each other’s throats"

Lets see. This show was always about Cristian. Bad ratings, it must be everybody else's fault especially Betty Monroe so lets bring in a blond bomb shell more deserving. Tricky Ricky is Cristian. We now see why he didn't make more attempts to contact Esperanza in 20 years. He spent it collecting groupies while on tour.

If Esperanza survives (she ain't got a stomach) she can become a sister wife and she'll be damn happy since everything is always her fault.

It's also apparent Osorio is re-purposing what he spent on props nor can he afford a total rewrite of characters and plot so he's cutting and pasting. That idiotic raggety prince andy costume was for Luca and rooftop marriage proposal to Pato.

Thank you pablo. That cleared it up right nice. Their acting like high school teenagers with children. Constantly playin
Kissy face when no ones watchin. They're kinda cute. And then they switch the scene to espy, lookin sick. Can a person thats had the kind of sickness she has look that good after that kind of surgery. they're going to have to make her look really good standing next to Christian and that blonde bombshell. and how long is she going to live? because she has no stomach, there's going to be hospitals and doctors appointments, are they even going to have time for a happy decent life? This is supposed to be a funny novela so they will have a happy ending.

Thanks pablo! :-)

Welcome.

Well... the story started with Espe and Ric but has changed A LOT! My guess is since she didn't die (and I think she won't), in order for them to end up together, Ernesto and Cristina will have to die. Otherwise I don't see how can they undo all what they have done so far, right? Like toothpaste, once out no one can never put it back in.

Or in jail. Ernesto can end up in jail and Cristina moving out of México to go save another school from bad reputation, leaving Ricardo because by that time, she already know his true self and is nothing like the one she is idealizing now.

Nandicta, thank you for the excellent recap.

I did not get to see this but you explained everything so well! Gracias.

"Cristina is a bore. Ricardo is a ho", "even though the walls bleed any time she enters a church, she still has a spiritual side" and "Esperanza who? Abril who?" were among my favorites.

It seems the Luca/Pato storyline is still mired in the muck of jealous and eye-rolling whining and complaining. Basta!

You are right in that Ricardo is becoming less likeable with each successive episode. And of course, the longer Esperanza continues to be ill and suffer, the more intolerable his too quick transfer of affections is.

Pablo, I laughed at "Like toothpaste, once out no one can never put it back in". It has crossed my mind Ernesto will not be redeemed but may die trying to save Esperanza (or Pato) in some way.

Like you Jarifa, I still like Ernesto...

Nandicta your "We could've had an interesting story of old lovers forgiving each other and coming together in a time of crisis to give one another solace, strength and hope" was just the scenario I would have loved to have seen. I fear it is not end game though. How sad.

Thank you again!

Diana

Nandicta, flawless recap, thank you.
YES, aren't interschool relationships forbidden? Espe got her smoochies in the broom closet and had her kids as waiters.
Had my daughter been kidnapped for a whole year I would have let NO man near any of us for God knows how long. The kids are just an excuse for thèse two bozos to keep coupling (love the ecpression).
However, Espe gets no simpathy from me because she lied lied lied and made her kids lié for her.

Thank you, Nandicta! As always, far better than the drivel on the television screen. Love your line about LVdlP taking notes on Cristina's level of appreciation for her miracle. I can't imagine any mother worthy of the title getting her kidnapped daughter back after a year of thinking she might be dead and just being all, "oh okay, now you slumber party with these strangers; Mommy's busy making out with some dude." If she doesn't want to go back to her own house, with the bad memories and all, then she should sell it and get a new place. Even just rent a new place immediately. What's her secret to reforming a school? Ignore the children and it will work out?

Why must Osorio telenovela proposals involve stupid costumes?

Thank you Jarifa, Tofie, Diana, Adriana and Julia for joining the conversation and contributing such witty and insightful comments! Sorry I couldn't stop by over the weekend but I really enjoyed reading all your posts today.

Susanlynn, how nice of you to stop by and say hello! I miss your wonderful sense of humor and your great stories! I hope we can watch a TN together again very soon. P.S. I haven't had a chance to watch Outlander yet, I'm afraid. My TV-watching is maxed out to the two TNs I'm currently watching (Yago and this one), whichever one ends first will b replaced by Outlander. :)

The Monday recap is up. Sorry about the delay. See you in the discussion thread! :)
