TELEMUNDO Y MÁS (#1): Eva la Trailera, La Esclava Blanca, El Señor de los Cielos #4, & La Sombra de Helena: Week of July 4, 2016
Labels: esclava, eva-la-t, helena, senor4, telemundo
Since novelera is away this week, I'll try to do tonight's recap, assuming that the thunderstorms they're predicting don't do in my electricity.
Tonight's episode begins where last Thursday's left off. Andy is laughing at Rebecca's predicament. "You killed the trailero instead of the trailera." She tells him to stop making fun of her. He says he's not making fun of her, he feels sorry for her. "When my sister finds you, she'll kill you."
At the hospital, the doctor tells Eva, Adriana, etc. that they've succeeded in stopping the hemorrhaging, but a bullet has damaged internal organs, and they still haven't extracted a bullet fragment that's lodged in the spinal column. [He says nothing about why there's a patch over Armando's eye, and no one asks, except all of us in Viewerville.] Eva asks whether she can see him. Yes, she can.
Elsewhere in The Only Hospital in Los Angeles, Doctora SweetFace receives a huge bunch of lovely flowers from an admirer. She assumes they're from Pablo, but the card says "Pardon my foolish act (torpeza), Reynaldo." The doctora is not at all pleased.
Eva sits at Armando's bedside with a loving look on her face. She talks to him even though she knows he's unconscious, telling him that her heart beats more strongly for him. "I thought we would grow old together. I don't understand what happened between us. You've done me great harm, but what you did for me and for our daughters was great. Please don't die. Not now, when Adriana is going to have a baby, and Fabiola is no longer afraid of you and loves you."
Doctora SweetFace encounters Rey at the hospital. He explains that Eva's ex-husband has been shot, Eva came to see him, and he (Rey) accompanied her. Oh, she says, you've come as a vulture watching over the remains/leftovers (andas de zopilote velando los restos). Rey doesn't even wince before replying, "Yes, and I invite you to join the feast, because you know who's here at the hospital? Your Pablo Contreras. And you know who he came to see? Eva." [These two seem a good match for each other.]
Both Evencio and Pablo tell Fajardo that they're sure Marlene has something to do with what happened to Armando. Fajardo is frustrated, because no one has been able to locate her. Just then his phone rings, and Pardo tells him they've found out where Marlene is. Fajardo is off to get her.
Marlene is attending her Social Event Alibi with Cinthia and Robert Monteverde. She keeps trying to reach Andy and Rebecca, but they're not answering their phones. Marlene suspects that something is wrong. She tells Cinthia and Robert that they have to leave with her now. Robert objects, but Marlene insists that she's the boss, and when she says they leave, they leave. However, just then Fajardo arrives. He tells the Monteverdes that this time he hasn't come to see them, and he asks Marlene to accompany him. "What are you accusing me of?" she asks. "I'm not accusing you of anything," he tells her. "It's your husband. He's been gravely wounded and is close to death. We don't have all the details yet, but we do know who shot him: your friend Rebecca Marin." Marlene claims she doesn't know Rebecca, but she accompanies Fajardo to the hospital.
Eva tells Pablo she's sure that Marlene sent Rebecca to kill her.
Reynaldo runs into Dra SweetFace yet again. She's finished her shift and is about to go home. Suddenly, Reynaldo grabs her and kisses her. He's apparently a skillful kisser. The next thing we know, Dra SweetFace and Reynaldo are entering her apartment. "Solo sexo," says the doctora. "We're not going to fall in love." Reynaldo agrees.
Marlene and Fajardo enter the hospital and of course run into Eva and Pablo. Eva is furious and tries to attack her. Pablo has to physically restrain her, and she does a rather convincing job of trying to break free. She accuses Marlene of being behind almost everything bad that has happened to her and those she cared about. Marlene, in turn, says that she thinks Eva told Rebecca to kill Armando and that Eva would then try to place the blame on Marlene.
Marlene goes to see Armando. Fajardo tells her she has five minutes. Left alone with Armando, Marlene seems genuinely upset. "I would never hurt you," she tells him. "It was an accident. I love you as I've never loved anyone. You have to survive."
Andy urges Rebecca to save herself, to run from his sister. Rebecca says that's what she's going to do, but first she needs to deal with her enemies.
At the police station, we see sleazy lawyer Silva brought in in handcuffs. The Texas Rangers caught him trying to cross the frontier with $500,000 in cash. The police jefe tells him that trying to cross the border with so much undeclared cash is a crime. And there's also the question of where he got so much money. While Silva is there, Pardo receives a phone call and announces that Florentino has agreed to confess and to implicate Marlene and others. [Does no one think about the possibility of Silva communicating this to Marlene?]
Pablo asks Eva whether she still loves Armando. Yes, she says. He then recites all the terrible things Armando has done to her. She says she knows this, but she's a human being full of contradictions. "The least I can do is to be here for him. He's the father of my daughters. He'd give his life for me."
Fajardo comes to see whether Florentino is willing to make a statement. Florentino fears that Marlene will kill him for being a snitch. Fajardo tells him that she could kill him even if he doesn't make a statement, she has killed to erase evidence: she killed her assistant, she killed a secretary at Mon-Sol, she ordered Melchor's death, and she has ordered her husband killed. There's no reason to be loyal to her. "On the other hand," says Fajardo, "if you help us, I can try to get you a reduced sentence." When Florentino learns that he will have to declare not only against Marlene but also against El Norteño, he ups his demand: "I want to be in the witness protection program." Fajardo agrees. He then starts the formal interrogation, with someone taking down what Florentino says. They cover the attack on Evencio and Enrique, the transport of El Norteño's drugs, the attempt to plant drugs in Eva's trucks, and the murder of Francisco Mogollon and the attempted murder of Soraya. Fajardo also asks about the involvement of the Monteverdes in Pancho's death, but Florentino insists that he has never heard of them. The interrogation comes to an end. Florentino signs the transcript and asks what will happen to him. Fajardo assures him that if what he has told them serves to put Marlene and her accomplice in prison, Florentino will be protected. The police leave his room. [Is no one guarding Florentino's room?]
The scene shifts to Dra. SweetFace's bedroom. She and Rey are relaxing in bed. "That wasn't bad, no?" Rey asks. SF replies, "For me, it was satisfactory." Rey gets out of bed to go get some water. When he's gone, the doctora is somewhat more forthcoming: "No puede ser. ¡Que hombre!" Rey, too, ranks their encounter as somewhat more that satisfactory: "She's a beast! Wow!" He returns to the bedroom and asks whether she continues to be satisfied. She admits to "small doubts." He too claims to have small doubts. He proposes that they try again and see if they can get rid of the doubts. She agrees. "With kisses or without kisses?" he asks. "I like kisses," she replies. And the two of them go at it again.
Marlene, still at Armando's bedside, tells him he has to live. Pablo comes into the room. Marlene asks what he's doing there. "I only came to make sure that you don't finish off your husband" (Solo vine a asegurarme de que no vaya a rematar a su marido), he replies. She tells him he should go keep an eye on Eva; she's the one who wants to get rid of Armando (ella sí se quiere deshacer de él). Pablo leaves, and reports to Eva that Marlene was crying, and he doesn't think it's an act. Pablo keeps pressing his case, and Eva keeps telling him this isn't the time to do so. She tells him she's going to go to the chapel to pray.
A rather drunken Cinthia tells Robert that they have to leave. No, he says, that will just say that we're guilty. We have to have a drink and be calm. Soon we'll return to high society. She notes that life is strange, and that their friends no longer like them. She asks him whether, in spite of all that's happened, he still loves her. He gives a half-hearted "yes," followed by "don't say stupid things," and helps her get to the bedroom.
Eva is praying in the chapel when along comes the friendly priest who was such a comfort to Betty. Eva tells him she'd like him to stay and to pray with her. "I would like God to tell me how to deal with so much anguish, anger, and pain. I need God to help me forgive." She tells the priest that Armando has done terrible things, and for a long time she hated him, but when she saw him close to death in the hospital and that he had sacrificed himself for her, it was as if all her hatred disappeared. It's not logical, she says. The priest tells her, "your heart has forgiven him, allthough your reason tells you that he doesn't deserve it. And what's the problem with that?" "I promised myself that he was going to pay for his crimes. I can't weaken/give in" (flaquear). The priest tells her that to pardon is a courageous and generous act. He urges her to listen to her heart. [The scene goes on for quite a while. Suffice it to say that the priest is wise and comforting.]
Marlene is still at Armando's bedside when his monitor starts beeping irregularly. She calls for a doctor, who asks that she leave. After she leaves, he succeeds in stabilizing Armando.
Fajardo and his colleagues are standing in the hospital hallway celebrating their getting Florentino to testify against Marlene and El Norteño. Needless to say, Marlene has assumed her accustomed eavesdropping position and hears all. They then go to get Marlene from Armando's room and find that she has left.
Marlene exits the hospital and leaves in a conveniently waiting taxi a few seconds before the police arrive at the exit. She returns to where she and Andy are staying and tells him that Florentino has denounced her. She's afraid to go back to the hotel, so Andy is going to have to go and get the money and her passport. He's not pleased, but she insists. They both have to flee, because everything has gone to hell (todo se fue al diablo).
Muchísimas gracias, SpanProf, for your terrific commentary on the recap. I like your idea about the actor playing Armando possibly having injured his eye while filming the scene with Rebecca. That makes more sense than anything I can think of relating to the plot.
I too like Reynaldo's sense of humor, not to mention the fact that I've found him physically attractive from the start. But, alas, I have to admit that Doctora SweetFace is a better match for him than I am. Heck, I'm old enough to be his...oh, never mind!
thanks so much Juanita, what a wonderful recap, you really went into detail of some long winded conversations, it seems like the only time Pablo can get Eva alone is when something happens and she becomes a captive audience, and like Eva kept saying, now is not the time, but I am enjoying seeing Eva's take on her simple but complicated life.

Someone has let the horses out; Miguel asks Tomas to go to the house to tell Nicolas, but Trinidad stops him so he can do it instead.
Isabel begs for Nicolas to let her leave; he refuses. Milagros knocks on the door and announces the problem with the horses.
In the kitchen, Trinidad tells Milagros she looks tired and she can go rest while he covers for her. As soon as she leaves, he also leaves the kitchen...
Tomas tells Nicolas the gates weren’t damaged; someone opened them to let the horses out. Julian says the guards are where they are supposed to be.
Bunme sneaks away without anyone seeing her.
Trinidad unties Isabel and leads her out. Milagros stops them and tries to take Isabel back to her room. Trinidad pushes her to the ground. Outside, he hits a guard who tries to stop them and knocks him out. Milagros yells te volviste loco (have you gone crazy)? after him. She catches up to Tomas and Miguel; Trinidad seemed lleno de rabia (full of rage) but she’s not sure where Trinidad is leading Isabel. Miguel runs off to try to find them.
At the river, Bunme puts rocks in her bag. She puts it around her neck and drops herself into the water.
Julian finds Angelmiro (I think the guard that Trinidad hit?) and tries to wake him up. Morales comes up from behind and stabs Julian in the side, then slits Angelmiro’s throat. El diablo muere hoy en El Eden (The devil dies today at El Eden).
Morales enters the house, calling out to Nicolas that he has nothing to fear; he only came back to finish his job. He doesn’t find anyone in the house though.
Nicolas is looking for Miguel. Tomas tells him he’s out still rounding up the rest of the animals.
Isabel starts to wonder where Trinidad is leading her since the road to the town is the other way. He doesn’t want anyone to see her. She tells him to go back or he’ll be punished. Like that matters to you, he retorts. Isabel wants to continue on her own. No, Trinidad, grabs her arm, she needs to tell him what she saw between her father and Candela. She claims she saw nothing. Trinidad reveals that he did not bring her out there to help her, but rather for justice. He pulls out a knife. Isabel screams, throws grass in Trinidad’s face, and Miguel starts running towards the sound.
Nicolas orders Milagros to get Angelmiro; he’s going to check on Isabel.
Isabel falls down, begging Trinidad not to hurt her because she didn’t do anything. Los de su clase nunca hacen nada, pero los mios aparecen muertos (People of your class never do anything, but mine show up dead). Trinidad knows that her father is a murderer, and believes that she will become one as well when she inherits his money and power. She saw who killed Candela and said nothing. He raises the knife to stab her, and Miguel rushes in, grabbing Trinidad.
Miguel accuses Trinidad of being just like Rosita’s murderer. He won’t allow him to harm Isabel, and he’ll have to kill him first. Trinidad knocks Miguel to the ground and they start fighting. Miguel yells at Isabel to run away.
Milagros finds Angelmiro’s body and Julian next to a tree nearby.
Nicolas discovers that Isabel is gone. Milagros runs in; he asks her where the guards are. Morales appears with his gun drawn at Nicolas and says they are dead. Isn’t he happy to see him? He has returned from the hell Nicolas sent him to, and now he’s going to finish everyone off, starting with Nicolas. He shoots Nicolas in the stomach!
Isabel refuses to leave Miguel. She gives him a big piece of wood and he raises it to strike Trinidad. Trinidad yells kill me! Miguel only hits the ground next to him. Why did he have to do this? Now he can’t escape with the others as they had planned. He cannot go back, and Trinidad knows it. Trinidad asks Isabel for forgiveness; he is too tired of all the deaths. Miguel yells that his remorse is too late; he betrayed his trust. Now leave!! Trinidad has no choice but to take off for the mountains. Miguel leads Isabel away sobbing.
Morales points the gun at Milagros. She begs him not to kill her; she’s going to have a baby. Not even a baby will save her. He drags her outside, saying he’s going to kill everyone at El Eden like he should have done years ago. Nicolas manages to crawl a little.
Morales locks Milagros in a room and starts setting everything on fire. She bangs on the door and he remembers the first fire, with Victoria’s parents banging on the door yelling for help.
Adela, Victoria, Remedios, and the new doctor arrive at El Eden and smell something burning. Victoria hears Milagros screaming. Morales shows up with his gun pointed at Victoria. Adela enters through another door without him seeing. She comes back out with her gun and shoots him in the arm!
Remedios gets help from Tomas and the others to save Milagros. As soon as she’s out of the room, she remembers Julian and rushes off to him.
Adela goes inside to find Nicolas. She falls to the ground when she sees that he’s been shot. She cries and screams over his body, thinking that he’s dead. The doctor finds them and makes her put pressure on the wound while he goes back to get his bag. She calls for Milagros.
Milagros puts pressure on Julian’s stomach. He comes to and asks for forgiveness. No me vayas a olvidar nunca, amor mío (Don’t forget me, my love). Milagros begs him to not give up; he has to fight for their son. Tomas hears this and seems stunned for a moment. They lift him up.
Isabel does not want to go back to El Eden. Miguel doesn’t understand why; that’s where her family is. No, they only want to control her and send her to a mental hospital in Santa Fe because she saw her father kill Candela. She explains everything to him, and he just hugs her while she sobs.
Outside, Morales bangs on a door with a lock on it (not sure where/what it is). He yells out that he killed Domingo and Helena like Nicolas ordered him to, except he couldn’t kill Victoria. Why is he being punished for not killing a child? Victoria appears behind him. He implores him to tell the truth; make Nicolas pay for what he’s done. It’s too late; he already killed him. There is no one left... well there is one person left. He sets himself on fire as Victoria looks on motionless.
The doctor treats Nicolas while Remedios goes off to find Victoria. Victoria is horrified at what she saw, but also angry that Morales isn’t alive to tell the truth and he killed Nicolas so she can’t even get vengeance. Remedios says no, he’s not dead. Not yet. They go into his room; the doctor says there was no damage to any major organs or arteries but he needs to get the bullet out. Tomas comes in asking for the doctor’s help with Julian but Adela throws him out. Remedios and Victoria also leave to help Julian.
Milagros keeps crying, not knowing what to do to help Julian. Victoria tries to make her think clearly. She does know what to do; just remember what her mother taught her. She is able to ask for a few things to treat the wound. In the kitchen, Victoria tells Tomas the Morales killed himself, but he also admitted that Nicolas ordered the fire and her family’s death. She is really angry and wants Nicolas dead, but that wouldn’t even be enough punishment for everything he’s done. In the end, she does want to kill him, but slowly and painfully.
Nicolas comes to while the doctor is still trying to get the bullet out. Adela throws Enith out, but then the doctor throws Adela out too. He really yells at her! (I like him now.)
Adela asks where Isabel is. Tomas tells her that she escaped. Adela yells at them for helping Julian instead of Nicolas. She tries to take Milagros but Victoria yells at her to calm down.
Outside the room, Tomas tells Victoria that Miguel went after Trinidad, who took Isabel. She did not escape. They just have to wait for news from him. Victoria thinks that if Nicolas dies, she will inherit El Eden and she can free everyone – but Tomas reminds her that she married him as the Marquesa, and if she stays, she runs the risk of someone finding out. Victoria is confident that no one knows, not even the real Marquesa. En la vida, no hay nada seguro (nothing is certain in life), Tomas responds.
The real Marquesa and Sor Alicia arrive in the small boat at a beach. They don’t know where they are since they are obviously not at the port of Santa Marta. When they turn around, the men in the boat have already taken off with all their things, leaving them without food or water.
Wow, J, another marvellous recap! Thanks very very much. I've missed as many episodes as I've seen lately, but thanks to your recaps and deb's, I feel as if I'm still in the loop.
Thanks very much, deb, for your response to the recap and the information about "La Fan." Sounds as if it might be worth a look once it comes out.
Fabulous recap J!
I'm always amazed at how well you do these.
and what an amazing show, I've never seen so many things go wrong for so many different people in such a short period of time before, it was just chaos, starting with all the horses being gone and no one has a horse to go get them.
I kind of like that big lug Trinidad, would he have really killed Isabel?
Morales is a hands on guy, recreating the night he killed Eden's former owners, except this time no one was home, I was thinking the building he ended up at was the church, and of course the door was locked to him, but that's too far away, I guess Victoria was stalking him to get him to confess, and seemed to be never threatened by him.
and finally Adela is able to hit something with her big rifle.
and what will Miguel do with Isabel?
ah yes, the Marquesa arrives in the new world like Victoria, penniless and with nothing, will anyone believe her, Sor Alicia, who kisses the ground after their voyage says god will provide.
Yes, this episode was craaaaaazy! So many things happening! I really hope Julian is ok and that we see Trinidad again.
Since it's a telenovela, I'm assuming there will be a happy ending, but who knows how many people will survive until the end.
J- Well done getting all the details of this wild episode! We are definitely in ultimos capitulos now.
I thought it was odd how long it took for Adela and Victory to wonder where Isabel was. I mean, with a mad man on the loose out for revenge, you would have thought she would have been the first person to come to mind, especially since they knew she had been left helpless, gagged, trussed up and locked in her room.
Farewell, Morales. He did such a good job making sure all those other folks he attacked were dead (he even stabbed Julian more than once), but he leaves Nicolas be with one paltry shot to the gut? That was some plot device right there. Why would be be less brutal with Nic than he was with everyone else who did nothing to him?
Trinidad disappointed me. I felt Miguel's hurt. Reme will also be devastated.
Glad they ended on a funny note with the real marquesa. Although we know this will be bad for Victoria. Oh, well! We're in ultimos, so the fallout, whatever it might be, won't last long.
This recap will be relatively short. I have to finish it before I go to bed tonight. Fortunately, not all that much happened in this episode.
Eva is finishing her talk with the priest when Pablo arrives to tell her that at last Marlene has been accused of her many crimes. Florentino has given a full confession and has implicated both Marlene and her brother. Eva comments to the priest that this time, God seems to have heard us.
Andy, wearing his white hoodie and sunglasses, enters Marlene's former apartment and takes the money from the safe and presumably Marlene's passport as well. I have no idea why he's dressed as he is. Is he trying to call attention to himself as a criminal?
At the hospital, the doctor tells Eva that Armando's condition is very grave, and she should prepare for the worst. She realizes that she has to talk with her daughters.
Fajardo and his men ask the desk clerk at Marlene's apartment for her apartment number. They enter the apartment, guns drawn, only to find that no one is there. We see Andy hightailing it out of the building.
Marlene and Andy watch the TV news, where they hear that Alberto Silva has been captured trying to cross the border with a large amount of undeclared cash, and that he is the lawyer of Marlene and Andres Palacio, whom the police are now seeking. Photos of Silva, Marlene, and Andy appear on the screen. Andy tells Marlene that unless they leave now, they're screwed.
Cinthia wakes up with a hangover and calls for Robert to close the curtains. There's no response. She slowly realizes that he's not there, nor are his clothes, nor is the money she had in her wallet.
Eva tells Adriana and Fabiola that Armando's condition is very grave. Both girls are very upset. She agrees that they should go to the hospital to see Armando.
Fajardo comes to Soraya's house to tell her about Florentino's confession. She's very pleased until she learns that Florentino said nothing about the Monteverdes and claimed he never heard any mention of them. ¡No puede ser!
As Soraya is stewing over the possibility that the Monteverdes may escape all punishment, who should appear but Cinthia. She announces that Robert has left her and has taken her money, leaving her penniless. She asks to speak with Luis. Fajardo comes back for his jacket and tells Cinthia about Florentino's confession. Soraya adds that the Palacios are not the main authors of the plot to kill Pancho.
Luis appears. Cinthia tells him "your father has left me." Luis responds, "My papa left me, too--because he died." Cinthia tells Soraya and Luis that she doesn't understand their cruelty toward her. [Huh? Is this early-onset dementia?] Luis leaves with Cinthia. They go to the apartment where Cinthia is living. She asks him for money. He tells her she's strong, she's young, she can get a job. Cinthia is appalled at the notion. "I raised you, I gave you all I had. I have the right to reclaim my investment.(reclamar mi inversión). Luis pulls a bill out of his wallet and hands it to Cinthia. "That's all I have. I hope it helps." [I'm not sure whether we were supposed to be able to see how much money it was, but I couldn't see it.]
At Armando's bedside at the hospital, Adriana tearfully asks forgiveness for all the bad things she said to him and the fights they had. Fabi sings a song Armando used to sing. Both girls tell him they love him. Eva prepares to leave and makes the sign of the cross over Armando and thanks him. Bingo! His hand moves. He recognizes Eva (mi reina) and the girls (mis princesas). Fabi tells him she sang his song, and he says that's what made him wake up.
Andy tells Marlene they have to leave as soon as possible. There's a price on her head, and he can't use his contacts to help them. He says that he thinks they should flee across the border, but they should go in a large truck (camión de carga), since all normal means of transportation are being closely watched. [Hmm...perhaps they can borrow one of Mon-Sol's trucks with the double walls.] Marlene thinks they should wait until the hunt for them dies down and then leave. Just then, her phone rings. It's Rebecca, apologizing for screwing up and vowing to kill Eva. After Marlene hangs up, she says to herself that Rebecca too will have to die.
Soraya tells Virginia about Florentino's confession, and the fact that the Monteverdes weren't mentioned. But Soraya has a plan. She tells it to both Virginia and Eva, but both times I wasn't sure what she's planning. It's something about taking advantage of Cinthia's anger over Robert's desertion and her poverty to get her to confess. I hope someone can clarify this.
Fajardo enlists the help of Martin, Pablo, and JJ to try to get a better handle on who committed which murders that they've connected to Marlene. There's much discussion, but it mostly goes over events Viewerville already understands, such as the deaths of Carmen, Sofia, the fat guy from Mon-Sol, Melchor, Javier, etc. etc. Since Fajardo didn't ask Viewerville for help, I'll skip over the needless deliberations and just mention two important things. One is that during one of these sessions, Fajardo gets a call telling him that the autopsy of Carmen's body revealed that she was murdered. The other is that although Martin thinks Marlene and Andy have already fled to Mexico, Pablo disagrees. Marlene is a psychopath, she's furious that Eva is still alive and is winning. Pablo thinks that Marlene will try again to kill Eva.
Marlene comes out of the shower and asks, "What do you think of my plan, Andy?" Andy? Oops, no Andy. We then see Andy going into some nondescript place that, in retrospect, looks like a place to buy drugs.
The priest comes to see Armando. He's much less receptive than Eva was. The priest asks whether he'd like to confess his sins. Armando tells him he has nothing to confess, because he's not guilty of anything. (Hmm...only shortly before, he'd been remembering his role in Sofia's death.) The priest tells him it's up to him (Armando) to decide what to do with his soul and has conscience.
Marlene puts on a wig and drives around looking for Andy. Andy, meanwhile, returns to the place they've been staying and suddenly has what looks like a seizure, falls on the floor, has convulsions, and then is still. I assume he's OD'd on drugs. Marlene comes back and finds Andy unconscious on the floor. She calls Rebecca. Rebecca says she'll come.
Armando sends a nurse to find Eva and tell her he wants to see her. Eva somewhat hesitantly goes to Armando's room. He tells her there's no need to cry over him, he's getting better. She tells him she's not crying over him, she's crying because the autopsy has just revealed that her sister, Carmen, was murdered. "And in my mind, it was you and Marlene who ordered her death." Red truck time.
I remember after Armando got shot, he hit his head/face on something on the way down, like a table. Maybe he hit it on something that was sticking out and it poked his eye out.
part 1/2
Miguel takes Isabel to the inn, asks Gabriel and Jesus to look after her, she thanks him, Miguel says not to worry, he knows what it's like to lose your freedom, she says this is like 3 times you have saved my life .
at Eden Julian is laid out on the kitchen table (I love the birds in their wooden cages) as Milagros, and friends work on him, Adela has come to escape Nicolas' screams, Victoria asks Tomas to tell the doctor to come here next and to go clean up the area where Morales died, then takes Reme to her room and tells her about Trinidad.
as Tomas is shoveling up Morales ashes, Miguel makes it back, and tells Tomas that Trinidad is taken care of, then asks why there are no guards and no one is working, Tomas fills him in on what happened.
Felipe and Ana talk, Lorenza is resting, he explains why it wasn't a good idea revealing Francisco as a murderer, it's your word against his, we need to build a case first, better to catch him when he least expects it, he is worried for Ana's safety, this touches her, then outside, Ana is off to work, they kiss cheeks as they part, Francisco on a big white horse watches.
the doctor tells Adela, Nicolas is not doing well, as he leaves to look at Julian, Adela stops him, she wants him at Nicolas' side, but Victoria takes charge and lets him go, then sends Adela away as well, closing the door, and slowly approaches Nicolas with a towel, and smothers him, but stops short when he struggles, does he realize what happened.
Miguel and Victoria meet, she tells him she tried to kill Nicolas, but couldn't, and wonders if she will regret it, she doesn't want him dying with no one knowing the truth, but Miguel says the tunnel is almost done, if only they had a boat, Victoria tells of Nicolas' safe, with enough money to get a boat.
it's another wash day and Enith finds Bunme's body.
Francisco has followed Felipe to town and when he is alone, prepares to shoot him, but Gabriel and Jesus show up, he follows them.
Milagros cares for Julian, he asks her forgiveness, he was an idiot, it's not that he didn't believe her about the baby, his heart was broken thinking she was just using him, you and the baby are my life he says, you are ours Milagros responds, rest while I heal you.
Victoria wants Nicolas' moved to Santa Marta, Adela disagrees, so does the doc, and Adela wants the doc to stay night and day, he says he can't, he has patients in Santa Marta, and between the guards that were killed and Julian being wounded, Adela wants help from the General.
Ana worries she isn't doing any good at Angela's fruit juice business because it's turning the white folk away, but Angela always has something good to say.
Francisco has followed Felipe to the beach and watches from above, when they are done and leave, Francisco sees it's a tunnel.
Adela assembles the slaves and lays down the law, but Victoria intercedes, these people are not responsible for what happened, and orders Siervo to be returned from the pit, as Enith brings news of Bunme's death, they send Tomas to town to get help from the General, Victoria gives him a side trip to tell Eugenia.
part 2
Tomas arrives when the General is entertaining Eugenia, he gives them the news, and the General is up and ready to go.
Isabel and Gabriel are at the inn when the doctor returns, he tells of Nicolas being shot.
Miguel gets Siervo out of the pit, who tells him of Nicolas' visit, he is supposed to report back to him about the causa, Nicolas knows something about you Miguel, he doesn't trust you.
Sister Alicia and the Marquesa are roaming the hills searching for civilization when the Marquesa refuses to go any further, even her eyes hurt, so Alicia will look for some shade, wait, she sees a couple of people, are they bandits the Marquesa asks?
as Milagros cares for Julian he wonders why she isn't back at work, and Milagros tells him orders of Victoria, he admits she is a good woman and looks out for them, but is different, Milagros rather than lie again tells him the whole story of Victoria.
Felipe goes to see Ana and Angela, gives them the good news, the tunnel is clear, and is off to Eden to tell Miguel.
Francisco has gotten a torch and begins exploring the tunnel, gun in hand.
Adela is caring for Nicolas, I'm the one that loves you the most, she says, he wants to know where his wife is, ut oh, bring her to me.
ah but Victoria is trying to crack his safe, but can't, when Miguel arrives with something to pick the lock, and he does, they clean it out when Adela arrives outside the door asking Reme where she is, Reme stalls, as Tomas returns with the General, but why is Eugenia there too? I sent for her Victoria says (who can't seem to get enough of upsetting Adela today) only to listen to Adela rant about a white person being friends with a black person, (Eugenia and Bunme)
Eugenia is appalled at Bunme's condition, wants her dressed in one of Victoria's best dresses, can't bury her in Santa Marta, Victoria suggests a plot on Eden the slaves and former owners used, Adela nixes the idea, but the General in his diplomatic ways smooth things over, and he'll leave some men to keep Eden safe, Adela adds the missing Isabel to his to-do list as she suddenly appears, Adela pulls her aside, and insists she say nothing, we must defend our family.
what family?, Isabel says.
Deb, thanks so much for a great recap. I'm so glad Julian looks like he'll survive and that he has made up with Milagros. Not so glad that Nicolas will also survive. Did he realize that Victoria was smothering him? Will he remember? His eyes definitely fluttered open, and her reaction, backing out of the room with a horrified look on her face, made her look super guilty. She should have covered herself, just in case, by saying something like "you're finally awake my love!" and then running off to get someone.
But the worse development of all was Francisco discovering the tunnel. Ugh! It's bad enough that he's stalking Felipe and Ana with his gun at the ready.
terrific recap Juanita!
yes, Andy in his criminal clothes and Armando with "Bingo! His hand moves" ha!
we didn't get the details of Soraya's plan to push Cinthia into confessing, but I thought I heard some reference to Arnulfo.
Martin drives me up a wall with his to the moon and back roundabout speeches and now his whiteboard drawings and picture postings, but that was quite a few people that Marlene is responsible for dying, even though they haven't said anything about finding the bodies of Javier and Elsa, or they would have read the letter, duh!
and what's with Pablo pushing to find the dying Armando guilty of something now that we are starting to like him, again.
and we didn't get to hear Marlene's new plan, but Andy figured he needed some drugs after hearing it.
Rebeca is on a mission to get Eva, but gets recalled to save Andy.
the priest is amazing, and always visiting people alone, do we find out later that the hospital has never had a chaplain?
Thanks, britishcomedyfan, for the explanation about Armando's eyepatch. I don't recall his hitting his head as he fell, but if I had a dollar for every event I don't remember, I'd be a wealthy woman. :-)
Many thanks, deb, for your wonderful recap of Esclava and your lovely response to my recap of Eva. I especially love your question, "do we find out later that the hospital has never had a chaplain?" !!!
Muchísimas gracias, SpanProf, for your great commentary about my recap and your very reassuring statements about Soraya's plan and about the eye patch. And yes, I too loved Armando's question to the priest about whether God pays him a commission for each confession.
Romy
Thanks for the recap deb!
Really sad that Bunme died but at least Julian is ok. I'm glad Milagros told him the truth.
I noticed that Telemundo's numbering of the episodes is one ahead of the original, so we might end up with 62 episodes after all. Right now, both TV Guide and Zap2it listings have Esclava Blanca airing until Monday, July 18 along with Eva and El Señor.
part 1
Eva is pressing Armando to confess to killing her sister, he swears he didn't want that to happen, yes you did she says, she was blackmailing you and a thorn in your side, and when Sofia found out her death wasn't an accident, you had her killed, admit it, but he won't, and Eva talks about how much she wanted to believe him, but not anymore, you can't mend a heart that has been shattered.
Cinthia is looking through the want-ads for a job but really has no qualifications, she asks God for a sign, her phone rings, it's Soraya who wants Cinthia to move in with her.
Rebeca arrives at the apartment to help Marlene, she has brought what they need, a syringe and adrenaline, and runs it straight into Andy's heart, nothing, they stare at each other, but wait Andy roars to life like a bull landing on the couch.
Luis and Adri are sweet talking at home when Soraya arrives with Cinthia, no smiles here as Soraya explains she will be living with them, Adri shows Cin her room as Luis and Soraya go a few rounds, he is totally against this while Soraya does the thing where she doesn't explain, and if he isn't going to trust her, he can leave, Eva's or the Monteverde's house, Soraya later tells Cinthia Luis and Adri will be staying at Eva's for a few days.
Eva and Pablo talk about Armando when Eva gets faint, Pablo takes her home and tells her to rest, but he wants to be there when Fajardo interrogates Armando., and so he is, even though Armando doesn't want him there, and Fajardo lays it all out about Carmen's death, the potassium chloride in her body, etc, only upsetting Armando who tries to get up but can't feel his legs, and what is Eva doing back at the hospital, listening to Armando freaking out because he is paralyzed.
Luis and Adri are gone so Soraya and Cinthia sit down for a girl chat with a glass of wine, Soraya quick with the bottle to top off Cinthia's, Cinthia talks at how much she hates Robert, Soraya tells her to go ahead and cry, and Soraya swings the conversation to how men in history have always abused women, and left them, as Cinthia wants to get back at Robert, Cinthia wants to tell Soraya something, but she is tired, later, as she goes off to bed.
Marlene is babying Andy, etc, etc, Andy tells her being a mother doesn't suit you, and leaves, Marlene tells Rebeca to follow him.
the interrogation is over as the doc comes to see Armando, he tests his legs with a needle, tell me how much this hurts, Armando says start already, but he already had, Armando can't have this, tells to doctor to kill him.
the doctor tells Armando there is a bullet fragment against his spine, they didn't remove it because he was in critical condition and they wanted to stop the bleeding, well remove it now Armando says, tomorrow the doc says, Eva seems tortured by Armando's suffering.
Soraya calls Martin, I have a job for you, bring JJ, and they come right over, she wants a complete surveillance system covering her whole house so she can keep an eye on Cinthia, JJ says he'll fix it up like the "Big Brother House".
Eva talks of Armando has always been like a minotaur, now he is so week, as she stands, she completely passes out this time, Pablo sends for the doc, who wants her to stay at the hospital but she won't, and Pablo does one of those head rolls he does when Eva is being stubborn, the doc asks her to come back in 3 days so he can run some tests.
part 2
nurse Marlene has dropped in to check on Armando, wake up Armando, when the regular nurse walks in, nurse Marlene explain she works the morning shift but she is going to school and had to change schedules, well ok, and Elena (regular nurse) lets her know he is paralyzed.
Marlene is getting all loving and needy trying to explain to the unconscious Armando that the bullet wasn't meant for him when the nurse returns with the doc, he's not seeing this as appropriate, and starts to quiz her but Marlene leaves, his asks Elena to keep an eye on things while he goes to talk to the head nurse and security, next day Elena walking past a tv with the news on (you know like at an airport) recognizes the nurse as the wanted lady Marlene Palacio.
Eva goes home to be greeted by everyone who all want to take care of her, she says nothing is wrong as Pablo behind her is shaking his head no, Federica says no visitors and takes her phone, and Eva climbs into bed to get some rest.
Ana anxiously awaits Rey practicing being normal, Rey quietly arrives, they both let the other know how normal their day was, but get around to kissing, where their lips get glued together and it's off to the bedroom.
morning comes and Fabi takes a tray up to Eva with a flower on it to be there when she awakes, Adri is off to the hospital where she has to explain why Eva isn't there too, but Armando already knows, it's because he isn't a real man anymore, the doc shows to take him to X-ray, see if they can find the bullet.
JJ has all the cameras in and linked to Soraya's computer, she checks them out, watching Cinthia getting food out of the refrigerator, and heads her off, did you sleep well, nope, everytime Cinthia closed her eyes she thought of Robert, it's like he never loved me, Soraya comforts her, of course he didn't love you, Cinthia tries to eat as Soraya keeps the conversation going, she has a headache, asks for painkillers, Soraya asks if she has hangovers often, oh no, first time, Soraya suggests something else, hair of the dog, crushed chile peppers, 1 part Tequila and 2 parts Vodka, and gets her one, and back to the woman to woman chat about men, etc, etc but Soraya wants to tell her something confidential, she and Pancho didn't really get along, he could never forgive her past, they always argued, and the accident you planned for us was really a blessing, she is willing to forgive Cinthia because they were both victims of Robert, and if Cinthia tells the police Robert planned everything she won't be sentenced, Soraya has money, she will get the best lawyers, you'd serve a year at the most and she would give her money to start over when she was released, so here it comes, Cinthia spills, we killed Pancho, Robert talked me into it, he went to them and said there was no way out, he said we had to kill you guys, as the hidden camera on the table gets it all.
Marvellous recap, deb, as always. I especially loved "but wait Andy roars to life like a bull landing on the couch." Great description!
Did I misunderstand, or did the job ad Cinthia read say they wanted someone who could type 200 words per minute? Huh? Does anyone type that fast? Perhaps a world-class prizewinner, but a normal person for a normal position?
So are there times when a cigar is just a cigar, or is Eva's fainting a sign that she's pregnant?
I found it hard to recognize Marlene both when she was driving with a wig on and when she went to see Armando and was wearing a different wig. I'm far from the best person in the world in recognizing faces, but I still found it hard to believe that Elena, who barely got a look at Marlene at Armando's bedside, was able to immediately recognize her from her photo on TV. Oh well....
Gotta run. Many thanks again for a superb recap.
I agree, SpanProf: I've just consulted The Manual of Infallible Telenovela Symptoms, and morning sickness is listed under Pregnancy, along with dizziness and fainting. :-) So it's not yet clear whether Eva is pregnant.
I too have doubts about whether Cinthia's induced confession would stand up in court. Let's hope it leads to more conclusive evidence, perhaps an enraged Robert's berating her (in front of witnesses) for spilling the beans.
Eugenia sobs over Bunme’s body, asking for forgiveness. The General and Victoria console her while the casket is lowered into the ground, next to Rosita’s grave.
An indigenous couple lead the real Marquesa and Sor Alicia towards Santa Marta. The real Marquesa is still being arrogant and rude, and Sor Alicia is sick of her not listening and always complaining. It will take two days to walk to Santa Marta.
Adela starts screeching about Victoria wasting her time crying over a slave when her son is still in danger and they need to call the doctor or get a different one. Isabel walks up saying they’ll need to call the padre too. Adela softens up a tiny bit when Eugenia says that she will pray for Nicolas - but Eugenia continues that she will pray for him to wake up being half the man he was. He has hurt so many people. Adela tells her to get out, threatening to set the dogs on her, but Eugenia stands strong. She knows the clase de escoria (kind of scum) Adela and her son are.
The General starts leading Eugenia away when Felipe arrives at El Eden. Victoria gives him the money from the safe to pay for the boat. She asks him for another favor.
Victoria asks the soldiers to stand guard closer to the house. She leads Tomas and Milagros out to where Miguel and Lorenza are waiting. Happy family reunion! Tú nunca te fuiste de mi corazón (you never left my heart), Tomas tells Lorenza. They sit together next to Rosita’s grave. It hurts Lorenza that they are leaving without her. Tomas believes that Rosita is in a better place, with their ancestors.
Miguel and Victoria explain the plan to them. The slaves need to go to pit in small groups so no one, especially Adela, will notice their absence. Miguel notes that it will take hours to get to the sea, even walking fast. Victoria will head into Santa Marta with Remedios and Milagros to meet up with Lorenza and they’ll go off to the beach together where botes (rowboats) will be waiting to take them out to the ship and a la libertad (to freedom).
At the pub, Felipe hires a captain to take the ship to Mexican lands. Felipe hands over some jewels and says he’ll get paid even more if he doesn’t ask any questions.
Isabel packs her suitcases. Adela tries to stop her. Victoria jumps in and thinks it’s great that Isabel wants to grow up and do what she feels like. Fine, leave, Adela, snarls. I’m sure you’ll come back with el rabo entre las piernas (your tail between your legs) when you start missing the comodidades (convenciences) of El Eden. Adela starts to tell her to go live in the house in Santa Marta and to take some slaves with her. Isabela interrupts: No, I don’t want anything that belongs to my father. I want to be independent and I never want slaves. I’ll go to the Pimentel inn. Adela laughs at her; how will she pay for it? Victoria again comes to the rescue. She’ll help Isabel until she finds a job.
Julian tells Milagros that he can’t escape with everyone. He would never make the journey to Santa Marta with his wound. She needs to go on her own and be with her family. She cries; she doesn’t want to leave him.
The General asks what he can do to help Eugenia. She is still crying. She asks if he believes that you get to see your deceased loved ones when you die. The General asks her not to talk like that. She says she has nothing. You have me, the General offers, if you accept me.
At the inn, Victoria worries about Isabel but she didn’t want to show it in front of Adela. Is she going to be ok alone without her family? Victoria calls her a very special person and starts crying. Isabel finally feels free and Victoria should come visit her often so they can do things together. They can go to the river, have tertulias (gatherings) at the inn; it’s not like they won’t see each other again. You’re right, Victoria says, kissing and hugging her.
Felipe tells Victoria and Lorenza that the boat is in position and the fuga (escape) will be the next day. Lorenza asks if he and Ana are also coming with them. He’ll go to the meeting point, but they have decided to stay. He puts his hand on Ana’s.
Victoria returns to El Eden and tells Adela that Isabel is fine. The doctor has been looking after Nicolas. He’s done everything he could. The Padre is with Nicolas, who is delirious, mentioning Morales, then Sara, who needs to give milk to Isabelita since his wife is useless. The Padre asks him if he wants to confess his pecados que ya sabemos cuales son (sins that we both already know about). Nicolas suddenly gets strength and grabs the Padre around the neck. I don’t need to confess; that’s for idiots and the weak. He lets go, falls back into bed, and says Sara once more.
Siervo tells Miguel that everything is ready. They are happy they are going to be free soon.
Francisco has reached the pit through the tunnel. He crawls out and realizes where he is. He busts into the kitchen, where the three soldiers are. He needs to talk to Nicolas, but Nicolas insults Francisco, saying it was his fault and thanks to his ineptitude that Morales got to El Eden and almost killed him. Francisco wants Nicolas promised him: a house in Santa Marta. Plus he has something important to do for him. Nicolas doesn’t want him to do anything; he wants him to leave and never come back. Adela kicks Francisco out, but before he leaves, he tells Nicolas to remember this day because he tried to help him but he wouldn’t listen.
The General tries to get Eugenia to eat. Alonso comes into the room and asks why she’s in their house. The General tells him about Bunme killing herself and that Eugenia will stay as long as she needs to; he will take care of her.
At the inn, Alonso complains to Gabriel that Eugenia only wants their father for his money. He needs his help to separate them. Gabriel refuses. People should live their lives the way they want, and Alonso should try to do the same.
Nicolas asks Victoria to stay with him all night. It’s the only thing that will make him better.
Remedios informs Milagros and Siervo that Victoria won’t be able to see Miguel before the escape. Siervo’s in a good mood though; everything will be fine. He’ll finally get to see the sea.
Miguel wakes everyone up; tells Enith to go first with the women and children. Siervo pretends to be drunk to distract a soldier so Miguel can knock him out from behind. They all head off to the pit. Enith gets scared. If they get caught, it will be certain death. Miguel tells her not worry; no white person knows the tunnel exists.
Francisco wants to hire Barrios. He discovered some of the Parreño slaves plan to escape. Barrios thinks Nicolas will be grateful to them when he gets his slaves back. Except Francisco doesn’t want to return them; he wants to be finished with them and the white traitors. Barrios notes that Nicolas will lose a lot of money. All the better for Francisco, he wants to kill the slaves AND ruin Nicolas because he betrayed him. Vamos a matar dos pájaros de un solo tiro (We’re going to kill two birds with one shot).
Tomas and Miguel get everyone into the tunnel. Victoria tears the map of the tunnels out of the book.
Ana and Felipe are in bed, both awake. Felipe will have to leave soon. Ana wants to go with him; she’s afraid. As soon as everyone is safe, he’ll come back for her and they’ll denounce Francisco.
Julian promises Milagros they will be together again as soon as he gets better.
The next morning, Victoria tells Adela she’s going to Santa Marta to pray for Nicolas and to see Isabel. She’s also taking Milagros with her. Adela doesn’t want her to, but Victoria reveals that Milagros is pregnant and having complications so she’s taking her to see a midwife. Adela agrees, says her obligatory racist comment, and wants Milagros to prepare her bath before they go.
terrifc recap J!
I watched this on the late showing last night and missed some parts so extra thanks.
well, everything is going to plan which is extra scary, Victoria really swings into action anytime Nicolas is out of the picture, the General is such an interesting character, did he mention that he has slaves, and does Alonso have a dark side or is it just about Eugenia, and how is it Adela won't notice everyone is gone, Milagros was going to make her some tea but she didn't want any, and Francisco is such a psycho, but how far can he go before he self destructs.
J great recap but why do I get the feeling with that beast knowing the plan it won't go well. Ojala, it does then what? So I am guessing it doesn't so the story stays at Eden.
Good for Isabela that she had to guts to move out from that rats nest.
Romy
Many many thanks, J, for another fabulous recap. I watched part of the episode last night but was so tired that I had to stop and go to bed. I'm so very grateful to you and deb.
I'm very nervous about how this will turn out. There's a bit more than a week of episodes left. Surely if all were going to work out as planned, they wouldn't need so many episodes. So apparently something is likely to go wrong. It will probably continue to go wrong for several days. :-) How will the arrival of the real marquesa affect things? Will all be well at the end? Will the slaves leave? Stay and be free? ???
Definitely too many episodes left for the escape to happen as planned, so I'm going to assume that everything goes wrong thanks to Francisco. And then the real Marquesa will finally show up and cause even more problems.
Every time the good people say something will be fine or no one knows about something, the opposite is true!
I am a bit scared for tonight's episode.
Thanks so much, J. I agree that all hell is about to break loose before we come anywhere near a happy ending. I'm almost afraid to watch.
