Belated thanks, deb, for last night's great recap. One thing I found amusing as I watched the episode was Marlene fleeing from the police and trying to run in spiky high heeled shoes. I was almost expecting that that would be her undoing, but no such luck.
Anyway, can't say more now. I've got to do tonight's recap. My guess is that I'll have it up sometime tomorrow morning (as usual, sigh).
part 1
it's morning at Eden as Victoria and Reme finally come down, as Nicolas puts it, the natives will come tomorrow to take care of the plague, they have their own poisons they make, and could Victoria write to her parents, they are going to need to ask them for money, (is Adela smirking?)
Felipe is frustrated not hearing from anyone, he needs to do something, he wants to go look for Miguel, Ana knows how dangerous that will be, after what the General did to Gabriel, his own son, for helping the slaves, and Felipe reminds Ana if she would have spoke up earlier Francisco would have been paying for his crimes and not ruining the escape, Ana tells him how much the guilt ways on her and leaves, he follows realizing his mistake, and apologizes, he as well feels guilty for not being at the escape like he promised Miguel, they both agree they can't live without the other and hug, but he is still going.
Paca suggests that she go to Miguel, it would be much safer.
Miguel is upset they haven't gotten their reply, he sends some people to spread the word, hit the landowners where it hurts the most, "we are one" "long live the causa" and later we see someone putting a powder into the water and rats in with the food, and even later we see working slaves all collapse.
Adela seeing sad Milagros asks how she is, so many deaths, friends and family she grew up with, and she worries about her father, Adela tells her to go look after him.
Tomas is chained up in the stable, sitting on the floor when Milagros comes to him, his spirit is broken, he tells Milagros his body may be here but his souls is not, he just wants to die, Milagros reminds him of Lorenza, his other daughter, and his grandchild, don't fail us now when we need you the most, find a way to free himself.
Nicolas eyes Victoria, are you writing the letter, yes, and he tells her what to include, don't mention our finances at the start, tell them about us, our wonderful land, give them a reason to visit, tell your mom I want to meet her,,,, when Milagros arrives with a message, Tomas wants to see him.
at the stable Tomas tells Nicolas he can't go back in time, but how can he make up for the damage he has caused, Nicolas doesn't do sweet talk, you have to earn it, Nicolas wants Miguel and the slaves back, until then, Tomas will remain in chains, Nicolas then says he's sick of people betraying him, and decides he will sell Tomas to the mines.
Eugenia is on the fast track to be married but the General has been too busy to find a priest.
Trinidad drops out of a tree behind Paca and wants to know what she wants.
Reme is praying as Victoria returns with the news on Tomas being sold in a couple of days, they'll have to get him away, but how, Reme suggests Felipe.
Trinidad brings Paca into the camp and they exchange what they know, then Miguel asks about the priest and Paca tells of the murdered women and him being seen running away, so Miguel gets him and wants to know what the story is, but he still won't talk, Miguel tries to convince him things will change, they'll will protect him, but the priest says he has been dealing with important people for a long time and things don't change, the world is the way it is, Miguel disagrees, the world is what you make it. Miguel thinks Nicolas and his mother are behind all this.
Nicolas will pay Salgado (one of the guards) as a foreman, but what he wants him to do is keep an eye on Victoria and report back.
Paca gets back to Felipe and tells of them waiting for a reply from the landowners, a reply to what, they sent a message with the General, they won't be slaves anymore, they want change in the laws, and amnesty, and they are armed.
part 2
Nicolas tells Victoria she can no longer be alone with any slaves, he trusts her but not the slaves, Victoria asks to go into Santa Marta with Reme to make sure the doc checks on him.
Nicolas talks to Adela, you should have seen Victoria's face when he pretended to sell Tomas, he figures she is frantically trying to get Tomas away and figures both will lead him to Miguel.
Victoria is desperate for a plan and goes to see Felipe, he suggests they intercept the new owners after Tomas is sold and arrange for his freedom. Felipe tells Victoria that Miguel has the priest, Reme wonders if he ran to hide the truth, they wonder who the women were that were killed, as Victoria and Reme leave, we see Salgado follow.
Victoria goes to the General but he has no idea who the dead women are, and leaves but Eugenia is there, tells of her engagement, Victoria is delighted, she thinks the General is a good man, and Eugenia knows the General is not holding back, so Victoria asks her to find out where the women are buried.
Nicolas discovers all his work tools are all broken and his slaves are all sick, Victoria tells him the doc can't come because so many people are sick, he orders the slaves locked up and no one leaves the house, he's going to Santa Marta to call a meeting,
the landowners look for a solution when the General comes out, Nicolas tells of it all being sabotage caused by the rebels, the General tells how they outnumbered and ambushed him, he gives them the message, the slaves want to negotiate, never the owners say, well there is nothing more I can do, and the General walks away, followed by Nicolas, the General is tired, Nicolas fixes them a drink, and happens to have that little bottle Adela gave him and gives the Generals glass a generous dose, yes the General is ready to retire as he takes a couple of swigs, and begins having problems as Eugenia comes into the room, he collapses on to the floor.
later Eugenia attacks Nicolas, who says it's not his fault the General died, oh but he didn't die, but Eugenia is on to him, and when the doctor tells Nicolas he can see the patient now, Eugenia goes too, refusing to allow Nicolas to be alone with him, (and where did Isabel get that nurses outfit)
the doc says no more alcohol, the General translates that to no more fun, Eugenia says there are other things we can do, and the tired General says his days are over as governor, he wants Nicolas to take over, (is that a look of horror on Eugenia's face) Nicolas declines, but the General insists, Eugenia suggests it be discussed, but the General says he can appoint replacement now until the government intercedes, and he will send a letter to Santa Fe recommending Nicolas for the post tomorrow.
Nicolas insists on walking back to the inn with the doc and Isabel, and alone with her in her room he tells her that he is proud of her, she is an independent woman, and he will support her and that she is always welcome at Eden, she softens.
outside he takes the doc aside, fire Isabel, she should find a husband and have a family like she is supposed to, or I will have you replaced...
Watching the sight of Tomas being chained up like an animal DISGUSTED me!
Looking forward to tonight's Gran Final!
Andy has been badly hurt in the shootout with the police. He's in a lot of pain, and the doctor in the clinic tells him his lung has collapsed and the bullet hit an artery, causing an internal hemorrhage. He says he can't operate, and that unless Andy goes to a hospital right away he'll be dead in a few hours.
Armando receives a call from Marlene, "the woman who loved you desperately, you desgraciado." She tells him that what angers her most is that he prefers Eva to her. "I'm back," she tells him, "and I'm going to hurt you where it hurts you most." Fabi is in the room with Armando when Marlene calls, and the call upsets her, even though she can't hear what Marlene says. "La bruja es mala" she says over and over again. Unable to calm her down, Armando calls out for Eva. When Eva finds out that Marlene called and what she said, she summons Pablo. Armando is furious: "I don't need you," he tells Pablo. "I'm going to defend my family by myself." Pablo passes Marlene's phone number to the police. Pardo informs Fajardo that they can only trace a call when it's in progress. [Duh]
Luis has gone to see Robert in prison. Robert tells him "you have money, get me out of here." Luis tells him there's nothing he can do. He advises Robert not to show fear in front of the other inmates, they persecute cowards. The best thing is to conduct himself with dignity. Luis has apparently said the magic words that bring out the real Robert Monteverde, the one who calls Luis an imbecile and accuses him of abandoning him in favor of the low-class trash (nacos choriceros). Robert goes on to say that it's too bad that they didn't succeed in killing both Mogollons, but alas the vieja lived. Luis thanks him "for showing me again that I don't owe you any pity." With that, he leaves, probably never to return.
Back at the clinic, the doctor gives Andy oxygen and morphine. Andy asks for a phone. Reluctantly, the doctor lends him his. Andy calls Camila. "I'm dying," he tells her. "I'm always going to love you. Please remember me." Marlene is upset that Andy has used a phone, since it's possible that the police will be able to find them. The doctor says that's right, and there's nothing more he can do for Andy. The man has clearly spent too much time treating patients and not enough watching telenovelas. Seeing even a few novelas would have taught him that when confronted by a serial killer, a doctor never admits there's nothing more he can do. Marlene shoots him, and helps the dying Andy get up so they can leave.
Camila is shaken by Andy's call. "Did he threaten you?" someone asks. "No, he was saying goodbye." Armando is present, and he thinks to himself "if Andy dies, Marlene will really go berserk" (si Andy muere, ahora sí que Marlene se desquicia). Yup.
At the police station, someone gives Fajardo a report identifying a dead body through dental records. Viewerville knows at once whose body this is, but Fajardo has to read the report first, after which he grins and exclaims, "Pablo, again you got it right! (¡otra vez le atinaste!).
Marlene and Andy make it to a deserted beach. She lays him down and holds him in her arms. Andy speaks of happy times in the past, especially a trip to the Eiffel Tower. Marlene went all the way up to the highest level and shouted that she would be queen of the world. "And I believed you," he says. "I thought that we would be rulers of the world. I love you, hermanita." Andy dies.
The police jefe tells Fajardo that he got a call last night from the mayor, berating him for being head of a department of useless people and morons, since they had spent a year trying to catch assassins who continually elude them. Fajardo gives him the dental report identifying Elsa and suggests, "perhaps it's time to open the letter." In the letter, Elsa tells the police that if her death looks to be accidental, it's not. She says that her husband, Javier, lied at Eva Soler's trial. The people who killed Carmen and Sofia Soler were "El Chivo" and Andres Palacios, but the murders were planned by Marlene Palacios, and always with the consent (consentimiento) of Armando Montes. Also, Javier paid heavily for his loyalty to Armando. He was killed by another of Marlene's confederates (cómplices), Rebecca Marín. Fajardo points out that with this letter, they can finally arrest Armando. The chief is delighted. Do it!
Evencio and Armando talk by the pool outside the house. Armando thinks that Marlene will come to kill Eva via the pool house. He'll wait for her there, with the guns Evencio has supplied.
Fajardo and his men arrive at Eva's house with Elsa's letter. "We've come to arrest Armando Montes for complicity in the deaths of Carmen and Sofia Soler.". He shows the letter to Pablo and acknowledges that Pablo had been right about Elsa. Eva comes into the room and Pablo gives her the letter to read. She does so and says, sadly, that it confirms what she already knew, that Armando was complicit in the deaths of her sister and her niece. Evencio overhears her say this.
Enraged, Evencio rushes to the pool house and points a gun at Armando. "It's your fault that I have no family. I believed in you, you miserable wretch." Evencio calls out for the police. Armando hits him, knocks him out, takes his car keys, and flees. [Armando's movements in the pool house are very smooth, not those of someone recovering from paralysis. Perhaps someone called this to the actor's attention, because when we see him heading toward Evencio's car, he's moving in a more labored way.]
The police enter the bedroom where Armando had been staying. By now they should know the drill: no Armando. "He's paralyzed," says Fajardo. "Search the entire house." Noemi says she saw Armando and Evencio outside by the pool. The police and Pablo head to the pool house, where they find an unconscious Evencio on the couch. He comes to, explains that Armando hit him, and apparently took his car keys. "He's not crippled" (lisiado), he informs the police.
A grieving Marlene tells her dead brother "I can't go back to our house. It's infested with all those people. It's necessary to make Eva come to me." Her phone rings. "It's me, Armando. I want to see you, cariño." She moves the phone away from her face and says wistfully, "Mi Armando," and then Armando gets a busy signal [huh?].
Back at Eva's, Evencio holding an icepack explains that as soon as he got to Eva's, Armando started practicing to use crutches. Also, he's armed. "He asked me to buy him guns. He was convinced that Marlene would try to hurt you and your daughters, and he wanted to protect you. He promised that when he had trapped/caught Marlene (atrapara a Marlene), he would turn himself in to the police." Eva shakes her head and says that Armando has decided that he's going to kill Marlene.
The police ask Eva to call Armando and talk sense to him. She does so, asking him to turn himself in and leave Marlene to the police. He refuses. He says he'll turn himself in, but first he has to stop Marlene, who has destroyed their lives. "I owe it to you, but above all to our daughters. I love you." He hangs up and drops the phone in a drink.
Still talking to her dead brother, Eva tells him that he was right, she has to act with precision and patience. She vows that she will get vengeance for everything (or perhaps she will get vengeance on everyone? The Spanish is Te prometo que me voy a vengar de todos). She smoothes his hair and comments on how good-looking he is, and how his good looks drove all women crazy. She kisses him lovingly on the mouth, leaves him lying on the beach, and departs.
At Eva's, Fabi exults at being the first to detect that Armando was able to move his toes. Eva praises her as "more intelligent than all of the rest of us together." Adri enters the house. After making sure that Fabi goes to another room, Eva gives Adri Elsa's letter. Adri is deeply upset by what she reads. "Why did this happen now, when everything was going well, and he had changed." Eva agrees that he had changed, and that he was doing everything for them, even pretending to be paralyzed. He did so so that he could be together with us. "And with you," Adri adds. "He loves you, and can't be without you. If that's not love, I don't know what is." Eva replies "Perhaps, I don't know, but no one can erase all the good or the bad they have done in life, and he has done a lot of harm. And now it's time for him to pay for his crimes." She hugs Adri.
Pablo is at home having breakfast with Diego, Martin, and Federica. Martin comes to the table with a box that contains a gift that his father, Pablo's grandfather, had given him. The gift is a gun for protection. Martin gives the gun to Pablo and a gift he claims is more important, a watch that Martin's father had also given him. It's my symbol of luck, Martin tells Pablo, so that you learn to appreciate time. Pablo is deeply moved. The watch also reminds him that he has to go to Eva's. He tells Diego that he has to leave, and that Diego should take care of his sister, his grandfather, and Federica. [Uh oh.] Diego asks, "Why are you saying goodbye? Are you coming back?" [Double uh oh. Are the writers playing with us?] Pablo assures him he's coming back.
Since Enrique has to work, Virginia takes advantage of a Sunday to come to Soler y Hijas to get a jump on her work. She assures the guard that afterward, they can have coffee and chat. [Triple uh oh.]
Armando calls Marlene. He asks her whether she'd like to make love before she dies. She asks, "Wouldn't you prefer to see how the love of your life dies?" She calls him "the crippled (tullido) Armando Montes." He tells her to be careful, she doesn't know what he can do if she comes close to Eva. "No, I can't imagine," she replies, "and I don't care. I'm going to kill two birds with one stone: I'll kill Eva, and you're going to suffer as you've never suffered in your life."
Fabi is becoming impatient with having to stay in the house. Eva enters the room and says Fabi is right, that she (Eva) also can't stand being cooped up here. "I too am going. I can't stand it any more." Adri pleads with her not to leave. "I would die if something happened to Fabi or to you or to my father." That apparently convinces Eva not to leave.
At Pablo's, Diego is together with Martin and Federica. Martin gets up to take a shower. There's a knock at the door. Diego opens the door. It's Armando. Diego says in his loud voice, "The father of Fabiola." This brings Martin back into the room holding a baseball bat. Armando says he's not here to harm anyone, he just wants to talk to Pablo. It's urgent.
Marlene drives up to the gate at Soler y Hijas. The guard recognizes her and reaches for the phone. "If you're thinking of calling the police, I don't recommend it," says Marlene, pointing a gun at him.
Well, the recap is finally up. It would have been up a bit sooner, but I kept having difficulty with Caray's word count. According to my word processor, I was well within the limit, but Caray's word count nazi disagreed. Sigh.
Many thanks, deb, for another terrific recap. I didn't see last night's episode, but your recap was so vivid that I feel ready for tonight's 2-hour final.
Juanita, that was one terrific, Class-A recap! You and I were in a mind meld during the “uh oh” moments. Loved the line about the doctor not having seen enough telenovelas.
I know it won’t happen, but I wish they’d show our “Captain” being busted down to driving around checking expired parking meters. He had the gall to try to blame his dressing down by the mayor on his troops, when he was the one who refused to open the letter that might have had Marlene in custody a while back. For him the buck doesn’t stop here.
SpanProf, you and I are on the same page. Marlene sorta-kinda loved her brother, but not enough to follow the doctor’s recommendation to call an ambulance so his life could be saved. That just might have put her own precious skin at risk.
I hope we’ve seen the last of Robert Monteverde. I despise the guy, but I dislike prison bullying scenes.
Sheesh, if it hadn’t been for Adriana, Eva might have left the house and put herself at immediate risk. Of course, she may still do so tonight. I can’t believe the writers are going to miss the opportunity for a final showdown between these two women.
I also think the writers are throwing out a red herring with Pablo’s goodbyes to his family.
I really don’t think Virginia is going to die.
I was somewhat confused by Evencio’s helping Armando this little while. I somehow thought he knew Armando was part of the plot to kill Sofía and Carmen. But I guess not.
Anyway, tonight’s episode should be exciting. I’ll have the recap up tonight.
Thanks so much, deb. Excellent recap, as always!
I was sort of wondering why Victoria didn’t get suspicious about Nicolás and Adela suddenly asking all these questions about her family in Spain when neither had ever done so before.
I was also suspecting that Victoria was going to see the bodies of the real Marquesa and the nun (I’m sorry that I can’t remember her character’s name. She was a very, very good person.) And last night she asked where they were buried. Is she planning, together with Remedios, to dig them up? She needs a forewarning that Nicolás knows the truth. But I don’t know if she’s going to get it or not.
Off topic, I found an article about Nerea Camacho, our Victoria. She’s only 19!
What punishment can be awful enough for Nicolás? He was shocked the General didn’t die. But he got his way anyway, the Governorship, after some half-hearted protests. So, I guess he’s planning to kill Victoria another way, since it looked like he gave the General a generous dose of Adela’s poison.
I’m frustrated they weren’t able to make that priest tell about the real Marquesa’s arrival and murder. The guy is scum. He made no effort to warn Victoria. Obviously, he’s not that sure about which place he’s going to go after he dies, or he would be braver.
I was sort of surprised Miguel was willing to sicken so many slaves in order to bring the hacendados to their knees.
I like the idea of rescuing Tomás on the way to being sold or perhaps after he’s been sold to a mine owner and on the way to the mines. This gives me some hope he’ll survive. It would just be too cruel if he and Lorenza don’t get time together after all they’ve been through.
I surely hope that the doctor doesn’t cave in to Nicolás’ threats and stop working with Isabel.
Tonight should be SO exciting. I’m really sorry this one is ending.
Muchísimas gracias, SpanProf, for your gratifying and insightful comments. And your husband's. :-)
I'm not sure what the writers are up to with Pablo's despedida-like instructions to Diego, nor with Virginia's assuring the guard they can have coffee and chat later. I do think they're playing with us regarding Pablo. It's one thing for Eva to decide not to marry him, but something quite different to kill off a likeable guy with two small children. Not marrying the galan would be unusual in a telenovela, but not outrageous; killing him off, however, crosses way over the line, especially given his two children. I don't think it will happen. As for Virginia, it's possible that the chat won't occur because the guard dies. If another innocent person has to die, I'd rather see it be someone we hardly know rather than a character like Virginia. But perhaps the writers are toying with us even here, and no innocent people will die. ¡Ojalá!
novelera, I didn't see your wonderful comments until after I had posted my message thanking SpanProf for hers. I'm glad to see that you, too, aren't quite ready to forgive the police jefe for all his stupidities and counterproductive actions. And you, SpanProf, and I are in agreement about Marlene's callous selfishness toward the brother she nonetheless does seem to love.
Can't wait for tonight's finale and your recap!
thanks novelera!
I'm going to go with Nicolas on the slaves, I think they are faking the sickness, they know Miguel is out there and there is hope.
and wow, I am so totally overwhelmed with this character Nicolas, the writers have cleverly shown us how he plays absolutely everyone, including his mother, to his benefit, and he did it all last night with a straight face.
thank you so much Juanita for the wonderful recap!
wow, the cops come to arrest Armando and spend half a day passing the letter around.
I too am surprised Marlene let Andy die, all she had to do was leave and the doc would have got him to a hospital.
so Marlene's plan is to have Eva come to her, not sure why she went to Mon-Sol, and she probably doesn't know Virginia is there...
Thanks for the recap deb! I should be fine for the gran final tonight. I'll watch the original version today and then the captioned version on Telemundo's site tomorrow morning to get all the details. I'm so excited for it! (but also sad it's ending!)
deb, I always love your comments. I laughed out loud at your statement about the cops and the letter.
Yes, I hadn't thought about the fact that Marlene won't realize that Virginia was there. I hope that doesn't mean that Virginia will join Marlene's long list of victims. Hmmm...perhaps Virginia may play a role in trapping her? I guess we'll know pretty soon. For once I'm trying to look on the bright side.
I'll be looking forward to seeing the recap of a great TN!

Lieutenant Colonel
I don't watch Eva; do any of those make any sense with the plot?
Armando has come to see Pablo. He tells Martín that he hasn’t come to harm anyone; he has only come to ask Pablo not to abandon Eva and his daughters. He goes on to say that Marlene knows that his house is a fortress and, if she can’t get to Eva and the girls, she’ll go after Pablo.
In the background Diego twists his hands nervously while Federica tries to comfort him. Armando demands that Martín give up Pablo’s cell phone number.
Marlene pulls up to the guard shack at Mon-Sol. The guard is friendly, says he always had the greatest respect for Marlene, and won’t call the police. He’s more than ready to let her in. She smiles sweetly, says she respects him also and then shoots him between the eyes!
Inside, working on a Sunday, Virginia hears the shot, looks out the window, and sees Marlene dragging the guard’s body into the shack.
Pablo gets pissy when his father calls to say Armando showed up at his house. He reverts to stupid jealousy, calling Armando imbécil. [These two are up to about 30 imbéciles each by now.] Pablo thinks Armando using warning him as a pretext to keep him away from Eva and, of course, rushes off to see her.
Marlene strolls into her former domain and angrily tears off the temporary, paper Soler e Hijas sign. Then she wonders why she can smell coffee on a Sunday. She finds Virginia before Virginia can complete her text asking for help.
Pablo is driving along wondering where Marlene will strike next when Armando calls him. Pablo right away tells him he’s going to give this new cell number to the cops. Armando impatiently tells him he can’t surrender to the cops until Marlene is captured. He wants to kill the perra.
Marlene calls Pablo from Virginia’s phone. She tells him he has to come to Mon-Sol because she’s got his friend. When Pablo wants proof, she puts Virginia on the phone. Pablo has put Armando on hold and when he’s not speaking to Marlene any longer, he tells Armando that, if he wants to be helpful, he should call the cops and tell them Marlene is at Mon-Sol. Pablo says he’s on his way there.
We see Pablo arrive, check the poor guard for a pulse. Marlene has come outside and shoots him in the shoulder then orders him inside.
Eva, Soraya, Camila, Adriana, and Fabiola are all looking worried in the Living Room of the mansion. Marlene sends her photos of Pablo and Virginia tied up, Pablo with blood on him. The text says: Ven sola querida. Eva, of course, lies to everyone, saying the message was just some spam. She tells them she’s going to lie down.
Marlene goes into full gloat. She tells Pablo getting him there was like taking candy from a baby. She wonders how he ever thought he’d stand a chance against her. Pablo tells her she won’t make it out alive. Marlene responds that, maybe not, but Eva is on her way here for her Pablote.
She jeers at what she calls their cornball affection, that they love each other enough to give their life for the other one. She goes on: “You really love her? I can’t understand your loving a woman so much older than you are!” Pablo: “I, on the other hand, completely understand your jealousy. Eva has what you never had: wealth, friends, and love. Everyone is in love with Eva and not you, including your great love, Armando Montes.” Slap! He really got her where she lives.
Fabiola discovers that her mother is gone when she goes to call her for dinner.
Eva arrives at Mon-Sol in a taxi. She cries out involuntarily at the sight of the dead guard. She begs the Virgin to protect Pablo and Virginia.
A pair of extremely well-built Angelinos find Andy’s corpse on the beach.
Armando arrives at Mon-Sol. Before he enters Pablo tells Marlene that the cops are almost here. She replies that Eva will get here first and, presto, there she is. Marlene: ¡Comadrita, por fin llegaste, infeliz! Eva stares her in the eye and tells her to let them go. Marlene: “How sweet! You arrived to save them and don’t seem to know that all three of you are going to die." She gloats over how stupid they all are. She tells them to shut up. She has an important decision to make, which one to kill first and watch the others suffer.
Just then Armando swaggers in. ¡Hola, cariño! Ya llegue. Her face falls. Armando: “What? You didn’t expect me?” Marlene tells him the big event is just about to begin. Armando: "I see that." And he pulls out his gun and says, grinning, “Interesting, no?” She looks about ready to cry. Armando: “At this distance neither of us could miss!” He begs Eva’s pardon (presumably about pretending to be paralyzed) saying he lied to protect her from this nut case. He says he knew she wouldn’t leave Eva in peace.
Marlene: “You disgust me. Have you come here to sacrifice yourself or to watch me kill this miserable trailera?" Armando: “I came to say that your days in this world are over. You’re a crazy killer that turns everything you touch into a living hell.” Marlene: “You certainly enjoyed rolling around in bed with me.” Armando: “And you have no idea how I regret doing that.”
Pablo has gotten his legs free and throws himself on top of Eva just as Marlene begins firing. He gets shot. Then Armando and Marlene shoot each other simultaneously and fall to the ground.
Eva has called home to say she’s at Mon-Sol. Fajardo is there and sends a bunch of cops.
Pablo, bleeding, tells Eva that he has gun strapped to his ankle. Just like in a horror movie, Marlene pops up shrieking that she’s going to kill Eva. But Eva and Virginia fill her full of holes. Ding-dong, the witch is dead and only 22 minutes into the show!
Martín gets a call from Augusto about what happened. Rey and Ana are in bed watching TV and hear it on the news.
At the hospital Eva, in tears, tells Martín that the whole thing was her fault and that he must hate her. He tells her he cares for her very much. Eva: “He was prepared to give his life for me.” Martin: “Even Armando was a hero.”
In Armando’s room the pop-up priest has come for a visit. He tells him he has nothing to live for, has no money, his children don’t need him and, if he gets out of his bed here he’s going to prison for a very long time. Armando asks what the priest would do with all that against him. The priest replies that he would first square things with God and then with every person he had harmed. Then, if he dies, he dies in peace; and, if he lives, it would be like being born again with a soul free of guilt.
SweetFace and Rey come in hand in hand to speak with Eva. She’s a bit surprised at this development but happy for them. SF tells her Pablo is out of danger, but Armando’s prognosis is not good.
Martín is so emotional that Pablo asks him if he’s come for his wake, or what? [The actor playing Martín has been very good all the way through, in my opinion.] Eva comes in and tells Pablo to hurry up and get better because she’s bored having no one to fight with! He tells her the nightmare is over. Eva: “Do you think we can yet be happy someday, Pablote?” Pablo: “You’ll see mi bella dama.
The police captain is arguing with Fajardo. Fajardo is furious with what’s been mentioned. He says Armando is an accomplice of the Palacios and a drug trafficker. He thinks Armando should go to jail. The captain says that it’s the best way to get a conviction for Cepeda. Bringing him down would be a mortal blow for the Cartel del Norte.
The girls come to see Armando. He’s very sweet with them. He talks about taking them in his big truck to the Grand Canyon and maybe even to Mexico. Choking up, he tells them that he’s been a bad man. Adriana says it was all Marlene’s doing. Armando tells her that’s not true; what happened was his own fault. He didn’t lift a finger to stop the things from happening. He says that love can sometimes be a mistake, but love never dies. Eva says that love can also become a friendship.
Armando repeats his refrain of having been an idiot. He asks if she can forgive him. She thinks that, with time, she can. He says he’s glad she has someone to take care of her, even if it’s that imberbe insoportable (beardless pain in the neck). So he can rest easy. She asks God to bless him and kisses his forehead. When she’s out the door, he turns his face to one side sobbing. Later Evencio does NOT forgive him.
Fajardo comes in to see Armando. Armando sarcastically asks him to wait until he dies before he takes him to jail. The lieutenant sits down, leans forward, and tells Armando that this conversation never happened.
JJ and Marisol have come to the hospital to see Pablo. JJ chokes up, and Pablo accuses him of having too many hormones because of Marisol’s pregnancy.
Soraya has an idea, which she discusses with Eva. They’re going to start a Fuerza Furias Foundation to help abused women who aren’t getting justice. Just then Fajardo comes to tell Eva bad news. The next scene is Armando’s funeral, with a large, smiling picture of him. Everyone is there; and the music is sad.
Meses Después - Miami, Florida
Pablo is telling the very much alive Armando Montes that he and Eva are happy. Armando looks like a million bucks, and Pablo has brought him some pictures of his children. They are very friendly with each other. When Pablo tells him about the Furias Foundation, Armando laughs. “Eva never changes. Siempre buscandole la quinta pata al gato. (always stirring things up)."
Armando tells Pablo this is hard for him. He wants to see his children. Pablo tells him it’s too dangerous as yet; the thing with Cepeda is too recent. He tells him that for now he’ll have to disappear. Armando: “OK, I get it. That was the deal.” He thanks Pablo for the photos and for taking care of his family.
Armando turns around and there’s a pretty woman standing there. She asks if those are pictures of his family. No, he says, they are of his deceased friend Armando Montes. He tells her he’s a tour guide, a great truck driver, and good at some other things as well. He gives her a dazzling smile and we can guess the rest.
Pablo and Eva are on the sofa in the mansion. He’s trying to get her to marry him. She tells him he has quite the ability to propose marriage to just about anyone! He then begins to describe the way he imagines the wedding will be.
Of course, we now see the scene shifting to the whole cast in his imaginary wedding. Adriana is hugely pregnant. Eva is given away first by Evencio, then by JJ, and finally by Martín. The theme song comes up. The priest says: Los declaro marido y mujer. They kiss and the big red FIN appears on the screen.
wow, I really enjoyed this show,
and what a stellar recap novelera!
the novela rule, the good guy doesn't kill the bad guy, was almost broken here as Eva put a bullet in Marlene, but I guess we forgive that because Virginia, who I thought was being a whimp, came marching in firing numerous times, loved it.
ah, Angelino - A native or inhabitant of Los Angeles.
I was finding Marlene's makeup being toned down adding to the horror.
(btw, I saw Erika de la Rosa - Marlene - the other night on TyM, she is such a neat person)
and I want to know why Enrique was in a bar hearing the news when he was supposed to be working.
I still think the priest is a ghost (they did this part so well)
did any of you hear the alarm when Diego grabbed his ears, when Armando died (not).
(I'm not really getting this part where Armando helped put away Cepeda when he was supposedly dead, unless it's that legal thingy of a dead person's testimony no longer being hearsay).
it's probably just me but the part of a wedding that touches me most is "accepto", and with Eva and Pablo, will that ever happen.

ESCLAVA:
Even though I have missed this entire novela (and hope someday to catch up with it), I wanted to share this fascinating resource from the Smithsonian : www.slavevoyages.org — Thanks to all for the fabulous recaps!
EVA: Missed all except the last 20 minutes of the final. So ¡muchas gracias a todos! for all the fine recapping, which I've been reading sporadically as I snatch a bit of WiFi here & there.
EVA:
Deb: I loved the ending as Eva & Pablo got the happy ending & her kids also got the happy ending too :)
Armando finally apologized for treating Eva & Co., like crap!
Esclava: Miguel & Victoria got the happy ending & loved seeing Isabel have a happy life too.
Remedios: Loved her happy ending :)
The General: I'm surprised he pulled a 180.
What a terrific recap, novelera! I really felt as if I were watching the episode again. You captured everything with such skill and style. I loved simple but wonderfully expressive phrases such as "Marlene goes into full gloat," and I laughed out loud at "Ding-dong, the witch is dead and only 22 minutes into the show!" (I too was surprised that Marlene was killed off so quickly.)
I recall being puzzled by Virginia's ineffectiveness when she heard the shot and spotted Marlene moving the dead guard. I understand that Virginia was terrified, but why didn't she immediately call 911? Another thing that puzzled me was Pablo's racing to protect Eva when he was much closer to Marlene and could probably have knocked her down before she had time to shoot. I guess the answer in both cases is The Telenovela Needed it To Happen This Way.
Two things I liked about the ending: Evencio's not forgiving Armando and the imagined boda. The latter maintained the telenovela tradition while remaining truer to the dynamics of this novela.
Again, many thanks for this and all your other marvellous recaps!
Great comments, deb, about the Eva finale! I agree about Marlene's toned-down makeup. It made her seem simultaneously more vulnerable and more frightening. I confess I never thought it strange that Enrique was in a bar, but you're right, he was supposed working, which I assume means driving a truck. And no, I don't think I heard an alarm when Diego did.
I wondered about the arrangement where Armando gets to go into witness protection in return for testimony against Cepeda. Perhaps they videotaped Armando's testimony just before he supposedly "died." But if he did go into witness protection, NO ONE, not even Pablo, was supposed to know where he was. Oh well....
Also, thanks very much for the helpful Afro-Colombian history timeline. And, of course, for all your wonderful recaps of that novela.
Arrgh, I intended to write that Enrique was "supposed to be working," but "to be" apparently was not to be. :-)
Esta historia es un homenaje a quienes sufrieron el yugo de la esclavitud y a todos los mártires que dieron su vida por la abolición. This story is a tribute to those who suffered the oppression of slavery and all the martyrs who gave their lives for abolition. (The message that appeared before every episode in the Colombian broadcast.)
Victoria plans to pretend to be sick so Nicolas will leave her alone, but he yells from downstairs so she and Remedios join him. He wants to celebrate being named governor of the province. Remedios tells him that Victoria is not feeling well, so he tells her to go back to bed because he needs her at his side the next day.
The next morning, Eugenia sees that Fidel is dressed in his uniform. She thinks it’s because of Nicolas taking over as governor, but he surprises her. He called for a priest and they can get married when she wants.
Felipe and Ana are their (only) witnesses. The four of them toast while Fidel tells them that Nicolas will be the new governor. They are obviously not exactly overjoyed by the news.
Trinidad tells everyone their plan is working perfectly. Their excitement is short-lived however as Paca arrives and gives them the bad news about Nicolas.
Adela refuses to let Nicolas get rid of all of the slaves, especially Milagros. Nicolas thinks as governor he’ll be able to gain Miguel’s trust - so that he will fall into his trap.
Nicolas becomes governor. His first act will be to start negotiations with the escaped slaves. He asks Felipe to deliver the message to them. He accepts. Julian is watching from the doorway.
Outside, Ana tells Victoria they are just as surprised as she is that Nicolas asked Felipe to help. Victoria knows he’s planning something, and she’s very worried about Tomas, who will be sold that evening.
Felipe walks through the jungle and hides suddenly. Julian runs up to find him, but Felipe comes up from behind. He takes Julian’s gun and doesn’t lower it until Julian explains that he is nothing like Nicolas and he wants freedom for Milagros and their child. Felipe gives the gun to Trinidad who has found them and they meet up with the others. Enith asks Julian about Milagros. Miguel hugs Felipe.
Nicolas is really smug with Adela, thinking the slaves will have to accept what he proposes and are finally happy that someone is taking them seriously.
Felipe tells Miguel they should negotiate with Nicolas even though he doesn’t trust him. They could make history and they’ve never had an another opportunity like this. They’ll advance in small steps and he’ll make sure that everything is legal. Miguel agrees to start talking to Nicolas.
Nicolas orders his guards to take Tomas and two other slaves to sell, and to not let anyone leave El Eden including his wife and mother. Adela finds it strange that neither Milagros nor Victoria came to say goodbye to him.
Trinidad gets ready to find Tomas with the others. Miguel will stay behind. Lorenza insists on going with them.
Victoria and Milagros hug. Victoria feels bad for not being able to help Tomas. Now they just have to wait and trust that Miguel will be able to.
Miguel yells at the padre for not telling anyone about Victoria being the real heir to El Eden. The padre is useless as usual, bumbling through excuse after excuse. The conversation ends with Miguel calling him a coward.
Nicolas meets with Felipe and other men about negotiating with the slaves. He doesn’t like what Felipe proposes, but he has to go along with it. The slaves will only meet in the jungle with him and Felipe and without weapons. Felipe also advises them to act quickly because the slaves are very organized and the landowners are not prepared for what they can do.
Eugenia watches the meeting and revels in Nicolas’ reaction to Felipe’s suggestions. Fidel wonders why she hates Nicolas so much, and assumes it’s because of the business deal with Alonso. She warns him that there is another side to Nicolas that he has never seen. He is not the noble gentleman that everyone in Santa Marta thinks he is. She doesn’t have proof though and plays it off as female intuition. Fidel prefers facts. She changes the subject to the murdered women in the church and gets the information about where they are buried by saying she wants to bring flowers to their grave.
Trinidad ambushes the guard as he’s yelling at Tomas and the other slaves in the jungle. Tomas is stunned for a moment and then sees Lorenza. She asks if he’s ok and he starts crying. Is this a dream? Yes, and it’s real. The last of his chains are removed. He hugs Lorenza again and then Miguel. Tomas is sure that Victoria will get Milagros out of El Eden very soon since the only thing keeping her there was him.
Victoria, Remedios, and Milagros try to leave El Eden but a guard won’t let them. Adela asks where they’re going, and reminds Victoria that Nicolas gives the orders. She tries to leave anyway but Adela makes it clear that she’s not letting Milagros go.
Victoria and Remedios head back to their room, but they hear screaming. It’s Eugenia and Adela won’t let her in. Victoria walks up explaining this is her house and Eugenia is her friend and always welcome there. She lets her in.
The doctor gives Isabel her pay and thanks her for her help. When she mentions a recommendation letter to study medicine, he says it won’t be possible. Partly because a woman has never done that before, but also because her father won’t allow it. Isabel is obviously angry. Nicolas threatened to run him out of town if he didn’t fire her. Then let’s go, she says. Let’s go to another place where we’re needed.
Eugenia tells Remedios and Victoria about her marriage to Fidel and invites them to a small celebration in Santa Marta. Adela stands by; smirking that Victoria can’t go since Nicolas ordered everyone to stay at El Eden. Eugenia responds that Nicolas asked Eugenia to fetch Victoria and Remedios, but Adela is not invited. Fine, go, Adela says, but Milagros stays with me.
Felipe, Nicolas, and the judge are in the jungle. Trinidad and the others surround them, guns drawn. They just want to make sure they aren’t armed. Nicolas is angry and impatient. Where’s Miguel? Right here, he answers coming out of the woods.
Eugenia leads Victoria and Remedios to the grave where the women from the church are buried. She leaves them alone while the bodies are dug up.
Negotiations in the jungle. Nicolas proposes better food and fewer hours of work… Miguel cuts him off. They want complete abolition or nothing will return to normal.
Victoria gets closer to the grave. She is horrified to see the real Marquesa and Sor Alicia. That means Nicolas and Adela know everything. Neither Victoria nor Remedios know what to do.
Nicolas rejects Miguel’s proposal. He doesn’t have the power to stop slavery completely. No, but the judge explains he could enact a law in the region and send it to the capital. Felipe adds that he wouldn’t be the first to do it. Nicolas thinks it would take too long. Miguel says they’ll wait; they just want the law in place. Nicolas finally agrees; he’ll write up the document. He wants them to sign it at the governor’s office, but Miguel refuses. They must do it at El Eden. Nicolas agrees to it, calling him hijo (son). La sangre no hace une familia (blood doesn’t make a family), Miguel responds. Nicolas hopes this will be the beginning of everything. They shake hands.
Victoria heads back to El Eden to get Milagros out. She tells Remedios to go wait at Felipe’s house, but she won’t so they head back together.
Adela is nervous that Nicolas and Victoria haven’t returned yet. She realizes it’s a trap and points her gun at Milagros, who denies being in on it with Eugenia. Victoria and Remedios arrive home just then and Adela points her gun at Victoria. Remedios explains that Nicolas stayed at the governor’s office, and when Milagros distracts Adela, Victoria grabs the gun and points it at her. No te acerques (don’t come closer), she warns.
Milagros gets behind Remedios. Victoria says they’re leaving. Adela still doesn’t want Milagros to go. She’s mine! Victoria leads them out, still pointing Adela’s gun at her.
Nicolas arrives home and discovers that Eugenia asked Victoria and Remedios to go out with her. He sees the three women trying to escape from the house and runs to the kitchen with his gun drawn. Victoria pulls out a knife, but he grabs Remedios. He calls her Victoria Quintero. She calls him a murderer. Everyone in Santa Marta will find out who he really is. He slaps her across the face, and drags her out of the room while the guard stays with Milagros and Remedios.
Felipe and Ana get read for bed. He’s happy that Nicolas is willing to negotiate and that everything seems to be going smoothly. They kiss, completely unaware of Nicolas’ true intentions.
Victoria is now tied up, unconscious, in her room. Nicolas gently touches her face and she comes to. No me toques (don’t touch me), she says with disgust. I’m taking care of you, my love, he tells her calmly. She calls him crazy. He retorts that crazy people don’t know what they’re doing. He does. Everything belongs to him. The hacienda, the governor position, her.
She will never be his. Her body and soul belong to Miguel. She hears Remedios yelling and begs him not hurt her or Milagros. They have nothing to do with this. Nicolas replies that they do, and so does Miguel. He’s your son, she reminds him. But he doesn’t care. Para mi no significa nada (that means nothing to me).
He reveals that he’s going to kill Miguel in front of her. He is above the law and he can do what he wants on his land. She is not afraid. The land is hers and she will never belong to him. He raises his hand to hit her, but kisses her instead. She bites his lip. He goes to leave but insists that once Miguel is dead, she will realize that her place in the world is with him. Jamás (never), she repeats.
Adela wants to know what he’s going to do with the three women. He won’t answer her and just tells her to go back to her room.
The next morning, Tomas wants to go to El Eden with Miguel but he won’t let him. He promises that he will also rescue Victoria. Lorenza reads the signs from the shells and warns Miguel that Nicolas will betray him and something bad is going to happen. Of course Miguel doesn’t trust him, but he has to get Victoria, Remedios and Milagros out of there, plus Felipe and the judge will be there with Nicolas.
Victoria has knocked over the chair and gotten out of the ropes, just as Nicolas opens the door. He ties her up again, this time to the bed post. He also gags her so she can’t scream. He calls her a wild animal but he has all the time in the world to tame her. Miguel will be there soon and she gets to watch the show from the first row. He kisses her cheek before leaving again.
Nicolas waits impatiently for Miguel to arrive. The judge seems to be running late.
Adela doesn’t want to be present for the trap that Nicolas has planned. She is worried about what will happen to innocent people like Remedios and Milagros. Nicolas assures her that the other landowners will back him up, and the judge won’t arrive until after everything is over because Nicolas told him a different time to arrive. She says it’s going to be a bloodbath.
Tomas and Lorenza talk to the Padre. He gets really worried thinking Nicolas will find him. He calls Lorenza a good woman; please save him like she saved Victoria. He reveals that Morales told him everything; Nicolas killed the Quinteros and the women in the church and he’ll kill him too if he finds him. Tomas is livid. You knew and you never said anything? You, a representative of the church? HYPOCRITE! The padre readily admits that he’s a miserable coward who just wanted to save his own life. Tomas starts leading him away; it’s time for him to do the right thing.
Miguel and the others make it to El Eden. Their priority is to get the women out.
Nicolas unties Victoria, warning her not to say anything or Miguel will be the first to die. Pelea todo lo que quieras, pero finalmente serás solamente mia, y haré lo que se me de la gana hasta que me aburra (Fight all you want, but in the end you will be mine, and I will do whatever I want until it bores me).
Remedios and Milagros are locked in the cellar. Someone opens the door.
Adela steps outside. Who’s there? She turns around terrified, looking at someone.
Miguel joins Felipe in the living room. Nicolas arrives with Victoria, who has blood on her face. The soldiers surround them. Es una trampa (it’s a trap!), she yells. Nicolas orders Shoot! What are you waiting for? Trinidad and Enith bring Adela in the room. Miguel will exchange Adela for Victoria, Remedios, and Milagros. Nicolas again orders the soldiers to shoot. Victoria yells they will kill his mother, but he doesn’t seem to care. Felipe asks if he’s really going to get everyone killed just to not sign the document. Nicolas shoots Felipe who falls to the floor. Miguel manages to punch Nicolas, and they all run outside. The soldiers all just stand there, not doing anything.
They need to go back for Remedios and Milagros; Nicolas locked them up. O nos salvamos todos o nos morimos todos (we save everyone or we all die). Trinidad and Julian will go back to get them. Miguel reminds them to get Felipe too; he is their brother in this. Miguel is going after Nicolas and Victoria is going with him.
A soldier stops Remedios and Milagros but lets them go. They come across Adela who is on the ground, babbling about Nicolas who was going to let them shoot her. She grabs Milagros’ leg and begs her not to leave her alone. They leave her there, shaking on the ground.
Tomas and Lorenza arrive at Fidel’s with the padre. A soldier points a gun at them, but Eugenia comes out and orders him to lower it.
Remedios and Milagros find Felipe on the floor. Luckily he was only hit in the arm; he’s fine. He tells the soldiers to go get Fidel.
The Padre confesses everything to Fidel. FINALLY! Fidel orders his troops get ready right now.
Nicolas catches up with Miguel and Victoria in the woods. He chases after Victoria, who leads him into the water. Miguel jumps out from behind and they fight in the river. Nicolas challenges Miguel to kill him but Miguel just knocks him out. Miguel hugs Victoria. It’s over.
Nicolas wakes up in chains, calling out Lucia, then Victoria, then madre (mother). Victoria appears at the cell door. Everybody in Santa Marta knows who you really are, and who I am. The Padre confessed everything. Nicolas doesn’t think people will believe it; he’s an honorable man. Isabel walks up to the door. You never knew when to give up. You did this to yourself. My only family is Miguel. Estás solo! SOLO! (You are alone. ALONE!) Nicolas threatens to get them back when he gets out of there.
Fidel tells Miguel, Tomas, Lorenza, Felipe, and Ana that thanks to the padre’s testimony, everything has been cleared up. Victoria is the heir to El Eden and she can take possession of it when she wants. Miguel asks about the proposal of abolition. Fidel will send it to Santa Fe the next day and do everything he can to make sure it gets passed. He will be happy to share citizenship and rights with the former slaves.
Victoria, Isabel, and Miguel, followed by Julian and Milagros, Fidel and Eugenia, Lorenza and Tomas, as well as Trinidad, Remedios, and Enith walk up to El Eden. Victoria feels that her parents are with her. Adela is leaving with a horse and one trunk. Eugenia informs her that technically everything belongs to Victoria, but Victoria lets her take it because she wants nothing to do with her. Adela actually thinks Isabel is going to go with her. Isabel sets her straight: I’m not going anywhere with you. Even though you took care of me, you also did a lot of things I don’t agree with. Adela thinks she hates her, but Isabel says no, we just have different paths in life. They hug and Adela leaves El Eden for good.
Nicolas is found guilty of killing the Quinteros, the Marquesa, Sor Alicia, and of fraud. He is sentenced to THIRTY YEARS OF HARD LABOR IN THE MINES! He makes a huge ruckus as he’s dragged out. No pueden tratarme como a un esclavo (You can’t treat me like a slave)! He sees Adela outside and begs for her help but she just stares at him silently.
Back home and in a colorful dress with her hair down, Victoria tells everyone that El Eden will be the first hacienda in the region to no longer have slaves. They will all be paid well to work as regular employees and they can have land to build their own houses. Seran libres porque blancos y negros somos unos (You will be free because whites and blacks are one)! Everyone celebrates.
Victoria wears a new amuleto (amulet) around her neck. Miguel is happy they don’t have to hide from anyone anymore. They will leave the past behind and start their new life together in the house that was waiting for her.
In the mines, Nicolas gets whipped for not working hard enough. The guard laughs at him when Nicolas tries to boast about how important he is and how he shouldn’t be there. The guard just reminds him that he’ll spend the rest of his life down there.
One year later.
At dinner at El Eden, Victoria, Miguel, Remedios, Trinidad, Felipe, Ana, Tomas, Lorenza, Fidel, Eugenia, Julian, Milagros, and their cute little baby are all around the table.
Felipe makes a toast to abolition being approved. Fidel says he received word from Santa Fe that day. Eugenia and Ana both thank Victoria for leading the way to end slavery and show that paying people a decent wage and treating them with respect leads to better production and profit. Remedios comments they should also thank the new capataz (foreman), Trinidad. They kiss.
Lorenza excuses herself to go see her niña (little girl). Isabel arrives to join everyone. Remedios asks where she left her doctor. He’s still in the office in Cartagena, swamped with work. She hears her niece crying upstairs. Tomas says not to worry; her abuela is with her.
Victoria and Miguel head upstairs to see their child. Lorenza is rocking her and singing the song she used to sing to Victoria. She tells the story of a girl named Victoria while we see flashbacks of the palenque. Victoria holds her baby, while Lorenza continues singing and Miguel and Tomas stand next to them, all looking lovingly at the adorable niña Dominga.
FIN.
Isabel working as a medical doctor.
Victoria & Miguel being together with their daughter.
Trinidad & Remedios: Great couple!
Felipe & Ana & the rest of the gang were awesome.
Speaking of the actress, who portrayed Victoria, isn't she the one, who's currently on "El Senor De Los Cielos" ?
Wow, J, what an amazing recap! I saw most of the episode last night, but I was interrupted in the middle by a long phone call, so I'm especially grateful for your wonderfully detailed account.
As I watched the battle in the water near the end, I was surprised that Miguel didn't kill Nicolas. I nervously expected Nicolas to regain consciousness and try again to kill Miguel. In retrospect, I think 30 years in the mines under horrific conditions is perhaps the best possible punishment for Nicolas, but as I watched the trial I was surprised they didn't sentence him to death, given all the murders he committed. Oh well, all's well that ends well, as they say.
Again, MANY thanks for all your wonderful recaps. I hope you'll be continuing to recap novelas to come. You've got great talent.
wow J, above and beyond, you write the most wonderful recaps!
and what a wonderful story this was from beginning to end, a first class production, like the speechless Tomas when he was finally set free, "is this a dream", it spoke so much.
and the sweet young Victoria, who was anything but a whimp, (she took that big gun from Adela so fast it was hard to see).
and if it's something we learned early on, you never want to challenge Nicolas, but after Victoria discovered he knew who she was, she never quit being in his face.
and what a fine job Miguel de Miguel (Nicolas) did from beginning to end, trying to save face while his world crumbled around him.
I'm so glad Miguel never killed anyone, what a noble young man.
so funny the General didn't bring the document proclaiming abolition to the party because he was worried he might lose it after a couple of drinks.
and I wonder if they showed us Victoria's baby to assure us it was not Nicolas'.
I was happy with the ending too! I'm so glad no one else died. Nicolas' punishment is fine with me. Being treated the way he treated the slaves is a better punishment than the death penalty. The only thing I thought was missing was one last mention of Manuela and Gabriel.
Steve, the actress who played Victoria is Nerea Camacho. I don't think she has done any other Latin American productions since she's Spanish and tends to work in Europe.
It was a pleasure recapping this TN for you all. I learned a lot more Spanish and my comprehension of other accents has definitely improved. After this and El Hotel de los Secretos, it'll be hard for me to watch "normal" dramatic telenovelas again.
I have family visiting and two classes starting next week so I don't know when/if I'll be available to recap Silvana sin Lana. I might have to binge-watch 5 episodes on the weekends for a while.
Hi all. Anybody going to watch any of the new tn's starting soon on Telemundo?
I need to start something from the very beginning.
Hi, Jude. This issue came up a few days ago, and at that time several of us (including me) expressed some interest in giving Silvana sin lana a try. I'm hoping I like it, since I don't have any desire to watch Sin Senos Sí Hay Paraíso, and I'm ruling out Señora Acero because the 10 pm time slot is a bit later than I'd like.
J- I was out of town the last few days, so I did not get the chance yet to watch the last few episodes. I read your finale recap, and I'm looking forward even more to watching it. So glad there were many happy endings. Than you so much for doing such a spectacular job recapping it!
Thank you J and Deb for your stellar recaps of this marvelous tn. I loved it but was way too busy with work to recap or even comment.
I haven't watched the episode yet but I am completely surprised this tn had such a happy ending. Your recap is just what I needed to whet my appetite to watch.
Thanks @juanita. I've looked at them and Silvana sin Lana is the one I'll be starting too. Yay!
I loved this finale! After all the deaths and sorrow in this tn, it was great to see all the main couples- Miguel and Victoria, Reme and Trinidad, and Julian and Milagros, even Ana and Felipe- as married couples.
I especially found seeing Nicolas in the mines of the south very emotionally satisfying. He thoroughly deserved it and was getting his just desserts.
