Sin Senos

the plan is to put Catalina and Marisol (the leader of the good girls) in the hole where Cata would die and Marisol would be blamed.

Daniel (newsguy) returns to his house through a neighbor's house and connecting backyards, only to find Yesica's men there to kill him, he leaves and gets his mother out of harms way.

the bad guys toss his place and take his laptop, find a guy to hack the password, pay him off, (which I think means killed him), and find Daniel's video to his colleagues ratting out Yesica, ut oh, Yesica is all death and desrtuction but calls her Colombian friend first, he says to let them all go.

as the evil guard plunges a needle full of formaldehyde into Cata's neck, wait, the Matron/Warden arrives to nix the deal and set Cata free.

all three Cata, Hilda, and Albeiro are to be released at 7 am, hmm, but Cata (and maybe the others) will have to sign a statement first saying she wasn't abused, Jota will pick her up.

Good morning Deb:

Diabla loves to destroy Catalina's family!

Silvana

Well, since novelera isn't able to do a recap, I thought I'd put up another very short list of what I remember. However, things got a bit out of hand, and I wound up doing a recap. I'll post it now. However, please do not think I can or will do this all the time. No way!

SILVANA SIN LANA - JUEVES - Parte 1 de 3

Chivis comes to Rafael's office and yells at him. "I thought you were my friend. I never thought you'd try to take advantage of me ." Rafael protests that knows that he went too far (me pasó la mano), but he only wanted to help her. She's not buying this: "From day one, you tried to seduce me." She tells him she wants nothing more to do with him, and that she will pay back the money she owes him. He tells her to keep it, she needs it more than he does. She agrees that she does, but she's a decent woman, and not everything in life is a matter of money. Rafael then says something I'm not sure about: Dile al mugriento vendedor de pescado ese que si se me acerca, le levanto cargos. I understood this as, "Tell that filthy fish vendor that if he comes near me, I'll press charges." But several dictionaries tell me that levantar cargos means to drop charges. ????

At the Fish Market, Stella starts in about Manuel's being too "helpful" with his neighbor. She throws in his face his lending Chivis his truck and helping her get her daughters into school. Just then, Chivis calls him and asks for the address of the person he knows who could buy her car. He offers to come with her. She says there's no need, but he says he can be helpful. When he gets off the phone, Stella demands to know why he has to go with her.

Lucha is at the university helping make signs for a pro-immigration march to be held that day. Andrés passes by, and she asks if he'd like to come. He reminds her that there's an exam in his class today. "Can't you give the exam another day?" she asks. He's a bit annoyed [understandably so, IMHO], and tells her he can't move the exam just because she asks him to.

A bit later, Lucha notices that other students seem to be laughing at her. She seeks out Jorge and asks whether this is in fact the case. He finds out that there's a doctored photo of her [on Facebook?] with the words "Angie Villaseñor te odiamos sin compasión. He shows the page to Angie, who is sure that this is Margarita's work. Just then, the perra herself appears and asks why they're looking so unhappy. Jorge shows her the page, and she pretends to be sympathetic.

At the car dealer's, Manuel says that the car is worth double what the dealer is offering. Chivis says she needs the money now, and she takes the dealer's offer. She then pays Manuel in full, and also plans to pay Rafael. She's happy that she's finally able to do this. Manuel suggests they go out to dinner to celebrate.

When Andrés returns to his car, he sees a big "Perdóname" sign on the windshield. He puts it in the car and drives off. Maria José (MJ) watches from a distance. Lucha passes by carrying a sign saying "Sí a la reforma, no a las deportaciones." MJ makes fun of it. Lucha then tells her she saw her kissing Vicente. MJ of course begins by lying, saying Lucha must be mistaken because she (MJ) went to bed early. Lucha persists, and MJ finally says that she and Andrés are reconciling, and please don't say anything to him about what she saw.

Trini comes to Don Benito's (DB's) bakery. She asks whether he would accompany her to go shopping. She doesn't know her way around. He happily agrees to go with her, and tells Juanito, a young man who works in the bakery, to take over for him. DB calls out to Margarita that he'll be back, and he goes off with Trini. Margarita comes in from the back and says she doesn't like Trini. "Why?" asks Juanito, "She hasn't done anything to you." "Not yet," replies Margarita.

SILVANA SIN LANA - JUEVES - Parte 2 de 3

Jorge is at his computer, trying to get rid of the malicious page about Angie. He succeeds, and Angie thanks him for helping her.and gives him a grateful kiss. Two seconds later, Margarita arrives, kisses Jorge, and starts insulting Angie. She tells Angie to stay away from Jorge, her novio. Angie replies that if she's having problems with Jorge, talk to him. Angie then leaves. Once she's gone, Jorge asks Margarita whether she made the page. She leaves without answering.

At the supermarket, Trini is looking for all kinds of expensive imported foods. It's not clear that she finds many, but she manages to fill her shopping cart to overflowing. At the checkout counter, the clerk tells her her purchases come to $486. She's taken aback, and, with a long line of customers in line behind her, she starts going through her purchases to see which ones she can omit.

Andrés arrives unexpectedly at MJ's house. MJ opens the door and he announces, "I've been thinking a lot, and I've come to a decision." After a break for five minutes of commercials, he still doesn't tell MJ [or Viewerville] what his decision is. He tells MJ her house is bonita, and that he saw her windshield message. MJ finally tells him the truth about her family situation.

Manuel and Chivis are at their celebratory taco dinner. Chivis is worried about how she will find another job, especially since she doesn't know how to do anything. Manuel tells her that's not true, and he has an idea. "You can offer my products to your rich contacts. And if you get an order, you deliver it to their house in my truck. Rich people have lots of social events, and my products are of very high quality and at a competitive price." She's not sure, she's never sold anything. He urges her to do it. It's a good deal" (un negocio redondo), he tells her, "and you can make a lot of money." He tells her she can start tomorrow. She says she'll think about it and talk with her family.

At Stella's, Stella is complaining to Dominique and Pancho about all the attention Manuel is giving Chivis. Dominique suggests to her that she should forget about her birth control pills. "Manuel would never abandon a child." [Oy, not again! Echoes of Bajo and Eva.] Pancho is upset with this suggestion. He feels it's morally wrong, and he says if she proceeds with this he'll tell Manuel. She says that if he does, she'll throw him out on the street. She then denies that she would ruin her gorgeous body by becoming pregnant. She decides that the best strategy for dealing with Chivis is to be close to her. That way, she'll be able to control her.

Jorge arrives to give Angie some DVDs. She tells him she thinks he'd better leave, she doesn't want any more problems with Margarita. Jorge tells her, "You're my friend, and if Margarita doesn't understand this, it's her fault." [Bravo Jorge! I love you in spite of your hair style.]

Silvana. Good! I'm glad Silvana confronted Rafael and gave him what for! She shamed him and he folded like the coward he is. Although he tried to get her to keep the salary advance, she was insistent on promising to give him back the money--presumably because she considers it tainted, but no doubt he realizes it's way less than he would have to pay in a sexual harassment lawsuit. The guys she lives with are teasing Stela about Vicente and Jorge's interest in Silvana's daughters. Stela says Silvana is useless and is being very unreasonable about Manuel's offer to help Silvana sell her car. Later at the dealership, Manuel is doing a very good job of bargaining (he is in a business where one negotiates the price of the product, after all, seafood with the fishing boats, etc.), but Silvana just accepts the first offer. She will pay off both Manuel's car damages and Rafael's salary advance. At the university Lucia is helping to prepare for a march for immigrants. Given that he too is a Spanish-speaker, I thought Andrés was being a little hard nosed about not letting her make up the test she was going to miss because of participating--and he's not all that nice about it. Maybe both MJ and Lucia would be well rid of him? Angie is being cyber bullied, but Margarita denies (to Jorge, I believe) that she's behind it. He is doubtful, and so is viewerville. MJ is trying to get Andrés's forgiveness. Lucha knows MJ kissed Vicente and is mildly threatening about it. MJ just keeps on lying, this time to Lucia. I thought the whole scene of Trini at the supermarket with don Benito was over the top. She wracked up almost $500 in groceries, and then when she realized at the checkout that that was way too much, she was slowly taking things out one by one, with the other customers protesting behind her. I hate it when I get behind someone like that!

Silvana. Oh thank goodn ess you're doing a rela recap, Juanita. Now I don't have to finish my mini-one.

SILVANA SIN LANA - JUEVES - Parte 3 de 3

Don Benito and Trini drive up just as Vicente is returning home in his truck. Trini immediately enlists him to help carry her packages into her house. He graciously agrees. Margarita comes looking for DB. She's not happy to see him with Trini. DB tells Trini that Margarita is just jealous. "She doesn't like to see me with any woman, and especially one so good-looking (tan maja) as you."

Vicente carries Trini's packages into the kitchen and passes MJ kissing Andrés. "Aren't you going to introduce me?" asks Andrés. MJ whispers to him that she doesn't remember the guy's name! Andrés introduces himself. The three of them talk, and Vicente invites them to go dancing. Andrés is eager to go, MJ not at all.

Angie uses the connection Jorge made to connect the TV to the Internet. Suddenly, Antonio José appears in a corner of the screen. He seems to be trying to connect with them via Skype [but can he do this if they don't have a Skype account and a Skype username?]. Angie connects to him, and he greets them, "Hola mis princesas, ¿cómo están?" Just then Chivis arrives home and sees him on the screen. She looks very unhappy at this turn of events.

Manuel, too, arrives home. He finds Jorge waiting to talk to him. Jorge is confused...about women. What should he do if he is attracted to more than one? Manuel asks whether Margarita knows this? Jorge says she probably has a suspicion, she's jealous. He tells Manuel that he can't stop thinking about the other person all day long. He finally tells his father that he's talking about their neighbor Angie. Manuel seems dismayed and displeased.

Silvana

SpanProf, I hope you'll post your mini-recap. You always have great things to say, and often you point out things I missed or didn't understand. ¿Porfa?

Silvana. Excellent and very complete recap, Juanita! I believe Rafael does mean "press charges." ¡Qué esperanza! as they say. If I were Andrés (and I am, but in another academic subject), I would offer Lucía the opportunity to make up the exam. Her cause is important and that's one of the things office hours are for. I thought it was very funny that Andrés and Vicente actually seem to like each other. It's more surprising that they both seem to like MJ, who is no prize, given the way she's been acting. I thought that was a very good idea of Manuel's: upscale seafood distribution, with Silvana as the sales rep. Professional sales rep is often the entry-level job of well-educated people who lack technical skills or "useful" specialties (like medicine, finance accounting, etc.). My husband started out that way as did one of my nephews and 2 of my nephews-in-law. I was very relieved that Stella doesn't want to be pregnant and thought it was clever of her to want to become Silvana's "friend." I wonder what Antonio José is really up to?

Silvana

SpanProf, somehow I saw your second message but not the mini-recap that preceded it. I loved the mini-recap and would welcome your thoughts about the rest of the episode.

Hmmm, I see we had different responses to Andrés's not wanting to change the date of the exam at the last minute. If I were a student who had studied hard for the exam, I would very likely be outraged to arrive and find that the date had suddently been changed. I suppose that he could have offered to give Lucha the exam at a later date, but that too might well create problems.

Anyway, I'd love to see what you have to say about the rest of the episode.

Silvana. Hi, Juanita. Well, it was just a seat-of-the-pants recap from a very few mostly opinion-type notes I took while watching. I think I covered most of the ground in my response to your real one. :) Btw, Jorge is so clever with things electronic and internet, could he possibly have pirated a skype account too? In the real world he would be skating for trouble.

Silvana. I would not change the date of an exam for one student, but a make-up seems like a reasonable compromise. I give makeups from time to time because students do get legitimately ill, do have genuine family emergencies, are members of sports or academic teams that have events, have job interviews, etc. I once got a phone call from a student who was stranded at the side of the road because her old toyota had the same gas gauge problem mine did. Since my first car was an old volkswagen that had no gas gauge, I knew how to calculate gas used from mileage, but evidently she did not.

Silvana

MANY thanks, SpanProf, for your encouraging and helpful response to the recap. I'm delighted to know that I was right about "press charges." There were some messages on WordReference.com from other English speakers who were similarly puzzled by the dictionary definition of levantar cargos.

Yes, I suppose your solution to the exam issue is reasonable (though IIRC Lucha asked for the date to be changed not just for her but for everyone).

You make a good point about how surprising it is that both Andrés and Vicente seem to like MJ. She has behaved badly with both of them.

I too wonder what Antonio José is up to. I strongly doubt that he'll be able to undo the damage that he's done. (The same actor played a psycho killer in Bajo, so I'm more than willing to see him suffer. :-) )

As you may be able to tell, I sent my previous message without seeing your response to the entire recap.

Silvana. Juanita: Yep, Lucía did ask for the date to be changed--sort of acting like María José there, rather entitled. :)

Silvana

I take back what I thought about Andres. The BabyBoo thing is still annoying, but he seems like a genuinely nice guy. One who should never get together with Lucha because that would be a major ethical violation. I'm also with him as to not rescheduling the exam. That would mess up his entire class schedule and affect all the other students. And giving her a make-up test eats into his personal time. Time or Lucha to start prioritizing: class or protest. Or just go to the protest after the test.

Jorge is equally adorable, but if he wears that man bun again, his head should be shaved. A ponytail is acceptable. A bun is not. I don't know why, but that's how it is in my brain.

Loved the friendly taco dinner, and I can't believe Silvana has never had street tacos before. Are food trucks not a trend in her crowd? She should try adobada. Those are the best.

Kelly

Silvana. Professors/university instructors are supposed to have office hours as well as teaching hours in order to handle things like makeup exams. Andrés might suggest that Lucha try to join the protest after the exam, but if that's not possible, I see no reason not to give a makeup--especially if she is required to take it before Andrés gives back the corrected exams to the class. I agree that rescheduling the entire exam for everyone is out of the question.

Silvana

Too busy at work to say much other than thanks a million, Juanita, for a FULL recap of last night's episode.

I fully expected Trini to have left her wallet at home when it came time to pay for her groceries. She asked Benito to get two bottles of champagne, some French wine, and also some whiskey. And then she went on to say that she, of course, doesn't drink the stuff. It's for all those guests that just drop by!

I was able to race through the episode after I got home at 10:00 from book club. Somehow I have no memory of Antonio José appearing on Skype, or anything else about Skype.

Silvana

Novelera, I too wondered whether Trini was going to find an excuse not to pay for the groceries. It's strange, I find her insufferable and delightful at the same time. I guess the point is that she's so over-the-top absurd that even though her behavior is often ignorant and offensive, I can't take her seriously enough to be annoyed with her. (OTOH, I'm continually annoyed with Stella. Just about the only bad thing I can say about Manuel is that he likes her.)

I'm not wholly surprised that you don't remember the Skype episode. One reason I opted to watch Silvana rather than Señora Acero 3 is that I'm often half asleep at the 10-11 pm time slot. After a full day of work plus book club, you may have been pretty tired by the time you got to see the telenovela.

Silvana - Viernes

Let’s see what I remember. Stella embarks on her plan to befriend Chivis. If I remember correctly, this was to know her every move and keep her away from Manuel. She shows up with a huge plastic thingy loaded with camarones, mejillones, ostras, cangrejos y almejas [shrimp, mussels, oysters, crab, and clams]. It Trinidad takes some of these to Benito, who offers to prepare huge paella. This looks like magic realism to me because there’s a big welcome-to-the-neighborhood party and one large paella appears to serve about 40 people.

We get the whole Skype by Antonio José, speaking to his children. Majo and Lupita are delighted to see him, Angie not so much. When he asks her what she’s been doing, she gets in a dig about mostly helping her mother. Silvana shoos the kids out and tells Antonio José exactly what she thinks of him. [By the way, Antonio José seems odd to me. In most Hispanic names with a José plus something else, the José comes first.]

At the party, Vicente puts some more moves on Majo, not successful this time. Silvana and Manuel are having a fine time, talking and laughing. Lucha mutters darkly to Vicente. She doesn’t like this development one bit. So far the most level headed and kind kids are Angie and Jorge.

Oh, and this being a telenovela, Poncho is at the party and calls Stella to tell her that Manuel and Chivis are having a fine time together. Since he wants her for himself, he obviously has an ulterior motive. This scene kind of clarified to me that Stella probably DID pay for the seafood, because she was outraged that HER seafood was used to kick-start a party she wasn't invited to.

That’s about all I remember.

Silvana

Muchas gracias, novelera, for this very helpful mini-recap. I loved your "This looks like magic realism to me." I too was wondering how in the world the platter or two that Stella brought to Chivis wound up serving the entire neighborhood. I tried to relate this to the Biblical loaves and fishes, but I didn't get anywhere useful. (I've done my share of BS interpretations, and I know BS when I see it--or write it. :-) )

I also enjoyed your line "Oh, and this being a telenovela, Poncho is at the party and calls Stella..." Yup.

I still am not sure that Stella paid for all that fish. It's possible, given how motivated she is/was to get close to Chivis, but I took her annoyance at not being invited as 1) Manuel is doing something apart from her, and probably with Chivis, and 2) all this is happening with her fish, i.e., the fish she brought, not necessarily the fish she paid for. Of course, if she paid for it, that makes it even worse in her eyes (and gives me even more pleasure :-) ).

I can add a few recollections to your fine account of the episode:

Manuel tells Jorge that Angie is not for him, she comes from a very different world that sees the world very differently from them. He adds that he likes Angie and likes her mother, but Jorge will suffer if he falls in love with Angie.

Chivis announces to the rest of her family that she has sold their one remaining car. Gasps of unhappiness and disbelief from the usual suspects.

Margarita admits to Jorge that she made the nasty page about Angie. She then goes to see Angie, tells her she made the page, and asks her to forgive her. It's apparent to Angie (and any other person with half a brain) that Margarita isn't sorry, and I was delighted to see that Angie refuses to forgive her.

Silvana. Excellent mini-recaps, novelera and Juanita. I too loved the magic realism remark! Given that Stella supplied all the seafood for the party, I think she should have been invited!I have a feeling that those paellas must have been mostly rice!

Silvana

Thanks for the mini-recaps! Here's what I can add:

Chivis also told the family (minus Lupita) that Rafael crossed the line with her and she quit her job.

Angie talked to Jorge about his mother and told him that her father Skyped them the previous night. Jorge found out his mom was sick when he was about 8 years old. We also learn that Angie is 18 when she asks Jorge if he could help her find a job, but she doesn't want her mother to know. He offers to talk to a friend who could hire her as a waitress, even though you're supposed to be 21. (Possible future problem alert!)

Manuel talked to Vicente about Majo and warned him to stay away from her. When Manuel asked if he wanted to be in a relationship with her, he replied no, but I don't believe him.

Majo lied to Andres again, claiming she was home studying when she was at the fiesta.

Majo commented to Angie that she hated seeing her mother talk to Manuel. She was upset that it seemed like she had already forgotten about their father. Lupita was also annoyed when she saw Chivis and Manuel talking. It looks like Angie is going to be the only one in the family who might support them getting together.

Margarita wasn't as annoying as before, though she was not happy to be at the fiesta and a bit controlling when she demanded that Jorge kiss her. Of course Angie saw it.

There was also one scene with Andres and Lucha where he seemed to be protective of her. He didn't want her to get in trouble with the university (or the law) for organizing the protest/march without having a permit. She just says she knows what she's doing and leaves. Andres sure looked smitten with her.

Silvana

Thanks,J! Actually Margarita saw Angie just as she walked into the party and THEN planted a big kiss on Jorge. A major theme of this novela is the possessive and jealous current, soon to be ex-girlfriends kiss the guy every time our girls are in sight.

Silvana. Andres's conservative attitude about immigration surprised me a little. Maybe it has something to do with his being a med school professor or instructor. Manuel also has some social class attitude problems.
