Tres Veces Ana #47 - A budding romance and a budding affair

I spoke too soon about the possibility of an exciting week and might have jinxed it. Tonight’s episode was very light on events and heavy on the eyelids. So we’ll start with one of the only moving plots of the episode,

Mariano and Viridiana

Finishing up a very pleasant dinner, Mariano makes a – what he regards as – gentlemanly attempt to pay for dinner. Viridiana wants to go halfsies , as she is an independent woman. Mariano concedes. Viridiana gives him an option to back out from the visit to a potential locale for her store, but he is very excited to see it. Truth be told, she is looking forward to getting his opinion as well. Well, isn’t that fortuitous and a fun coincidence, as he is looking forward to dispensing said opinion!

Having finished smoking their peace pipe, they are off to see the potential new spot. Viridiana likes it, but hold on – where is the owner? She is getting ready to start another rant, this time on the topic of punctuality, when Mariano confesses that he is the actual owner. The rant takes a sharp turn to “are you trying to be my rescuer” and “I will do it all myself, don’t you think I have a plan B!”, and finally ends with another lighting of the peace pipe once Mariano manages to calm her down.

At the end of the episode Viridiana shows up at Mariano’s office to sign the papers. Post-signing she gets up to leave and drops some papers. They both bend to pick them up, she touches his hand, there is a spark and a long drawn out stare. It is during this time that Ana Le shows up with a question to ask Mariano, observes this scene through the glass door and by the looks of it, is certainly not pleased.

Ana Le and Ramiro

These two continued to play their little cat and mouse game, except it is yet unclear which one is the cat, and which is the mouse.

Ramiro would like to think that he is the cat, luring Ana Le into the trap with a piece of cheese – there is just one difficulty. He has not quite figured out what type of cheese Ana Le would deem worthy going after, so he is shooting in every direction: they discuss Llora and how badly she would feel, he makes sure to compliment  Ana Le’s sensitivities when she claims to love her sister, tells her again that he has such deep feelings and is finding a whole new person in her.

Ana Le is almost ready to call his bluff though. She thinks he is just doing that to make Llora jealous, so she won’t bite. Ramiro tries to convince her that Llora doesn’t have anything to do with it. Isn’t he worried what Llora would think? Well, of course he is, but Llora would just have to deal with it. (I personally think that argument makes no sense whatsoever, but it’s not me he needs to convince to become his girlfriend). Ana Le is ready to agree, with the only condition – they keep it a secret. No dice, says Ramiro, it’s all or nothing. Ana Le will have to think about it and thusly they part.

Next morning Ramiro calls Ana Le to let her know he was thinking about her all night. She talks all softly to him in front of Inaki at work and agrees to dinner that same night. Inaki is suspicious and wants to know who that was.

Llora and Tin

Llora is still unable to concentrate on Tin and this doesn’t escape his attention. Llora explains she is just worried because Ana Le has not returned from dinner yet. Tin points out that Ana Le is a big girl and Llora can’t control her. (That is exactly what she is worried about , Tin.) Tin thinks Llora is too dependent on her family and she needs to mature and perhaps even live alone. Oh no, Llora couldn’t do that. What about Tin – does he miss his family? He lost them a long time ago, just like Llora. Llora reminisces how wonderful it would have been to have her mother next to her again, hear her voice. Tin looks guilty and uncomfortable.

After what must have seemed as a century to absent-minded Llora, Tin is ready to leave. Just as he is trying (for the umpteenth time that night) to butter Llora up, Llora responds with a phrase any potential suitor loves to hear: “My grandmother loves when you visit, so please come again.” Ana Le shows up from her dinner with “Daniel”, thus saving Llora from necessity to elaborate. Llora immediately switches gears: How was Ana Le’s dinner? Does she like Daniel now? What did he say? What did Ana Le buy that she has in a bag?

Ana Le responds to a few of these – dinner was fine. Daniel spent the whole time trying to convince her to give him another chance. Of course, she doesn’t care about Daniel, but maybe the time has come to pick another boyfriend from one of her multiple suitors. With that statement, Ana Le is off to her room.

Llora quickly shoves Tin into a car and calls Ramiro to report that Ana Le says “Daniel” told her he loves her and wants to be together. Ramiro confirms, that’s what they agreed on. He will follow through till the end. Llora doesn’t want to play any more – she feels bad tricking Ana Le and besides, she is sure Ana Le will not betray her. Ana Le already did, points out Ramiro and Llora needs to see it.

Ramiro and Santicelo

Ramiro returns home and Santicelo wants to know how the dinner went and if he kissed his wife for dessert. Dinner went very well, and Ramiro will do as promised – there will be nothing between him and Ana Le. (Exactly how he is planning to convince the over-sexed Ana Le to become his girlfriend without any physical contact is probably best left in the telenovela mystery category. What would he do when she says yes though – kiss her on the forehead and hold her hand?).

Santicelo shares a memory of Ana Le asking for a divorce and the fact that she was cheating on him. He saw the guy in his memory from behind and isn’t entirely sure it wasn’t Ramiro. Ramiro denies it, but Santi is not convinced. You may not believe me, but at least you are beginning to see who Ana Le is, says Ramiro. You once did the same for me and opened my eyes on to the real identity of my fiancé.

Whether Santicelo is satisfied with these arguments or not, next time we see him, he is chatting with Remedios over the phone. Remedios reports that Ana Lu is still leaving, though she was able to talk to her about Santi. Santi wants to see her. He cannot, says Remedios, until he resolves his situation. Divorce, then show up. Santi needs time. Well, it turns out that is the one thing he does not have.

Ana Le and her mysterious operation “Llora”

Ana Le tries the wig on in her room. Looks very unnatural, but she seems satisfied.

Next day she shows up at the rehabilitation center to talk to Valeria about Tin. What is his story? Llora has suffered for Ramiro enough and Ana Le is concerned for her sister and doesn’t want her to be hurt.

Life at the hostel

Nerina comes over to talk to Ana Lu at Anibal’s behest. They share each other’s sad stories: Nerina has spent all her money on the sick husband, and didn’t tell her kids how tight things were, and in the end she was asked to move out of the house. It was then that she came to this hostel. Ana Lu thinks sadness should be shared to make the person feel better. Wouldn’t you want to see your kids, asks Ana Lu? Nerina says she would not. She wanted to talk about Ana Lu though, and her career at Danzaire. Well, Ana Lu is moving for the same reason as Nerina’s – a broken heart.

Next Ana Lu goes to sun tan a bit, and Orlando catches up with her. He wants to follow Ana Lu wherever she goes, but she is not too keen on the idea.

Having left Orlando (she is surely having a busy day!), Ana Lu runs into Remedios. The latter puts in a good word about Santiago – he has not talked to his wife yet, he has not dared as he is still in love with Ana Lu. Ana Lu should talk to him, as this is all very complicated. Ana Lu does not know what to think.

She still has not made up her mind, and when Sole tells her she would need up to another week to finish the work for Viridiana, Ana Lu is happy for the delay. Sole worries Ana Lu changed her mind.
Ana Le comes back to Nerina’s with a basket with sweets in tow. They chat and bond. Nerina finishes her sad story of how her own kids sued her. Ana Lu is incredulous and consoles Nerina.

(Side q: so where do we think Eric del Castillo is? It was his birthday a couple days ago, maybe he is on a binge celebrating? We really need him back for some plot action.)

Thank you, Ria. The recap was excellent. Yes, we surely need more Evaristo!!!

I really disliked Valentín's efforts trying to get Ana Laura to be alienated from her family like he is. Ana Laura does need to fly the coop but not with a twisted nut job like Valentín. He gives me the creeps.

I loved seeing Ana Leticia's reaction to seeing uncle Mariano with Viridiana. Very funny.

"Light on events and heavy on the eyelids."

What a great description. Looking forward to seeing the spark between Vridiana and my favorite Tio.

"These two continued to play their little cat and mouse game, except it is yet unclear which one is the cat, and which is the mouse."

Another great summary. I fear Ramiro's plan is going to be a disaster. He seems like such a dim bulb, and Ana Leticia, though not quite as bright as Teresa, definitely is more clever than our dopey accountant. In fact none of our galans seem especially bright except for Old Smoothie Evaristo.

Looking forward to watching this after reading your recap, Ria, if only for the new romance scenes. How nice that they come at the beginning!

Gracias, Ria.

Valentin creeps me out more and more every time I see him with Ana Llorona. This actor is adorable when playing good, but...

Someone called it correctly a while ago, that Viridiana is the woman for Mariano. Can't wait to see how that ending scene continues then.

SantMarc needs some time. Keep calm and remember... then file for divorce and hatch a getaway plan for himself and Ana Lucia.

I don't think we'll have to wait too long for Evaristo to return.

BTW, another birthday passed yesterday for another of our favorite men: Jorge Salinas is now 48 years young.

Thanks so much, Ria! I really enjoyed the scenes of Mariano and Viridiana's budding romance. They have really good chemistry. And I can't wait until the first time AnaLet tries to diss Viri. I don't think she'll be as much of a pushover as Jenny, nor will she be blind to the incestuous nature of AnaLet's attentions to her uncle.

Hmmm...So is Valentin the intended target with the Llora wig? Still unsure of Ramiro's plan, but very glad he continues to be honest with Llora and SantMarc. Hiding things is usually the fastest way to get in trouble in tns.

Urban- I agree about SantMarc. Remedios was urging him to immediately go confront his wife. But I think Ramiro's advice to remember all that he can, so that he knows who she REALLY is before he reveals himself, was the best advice. I'm glad he's remembered some of the bad stuff to counter the loving memories and hearing AnaLet herself telling people he's the love of her life. But I hope he also remembers just how traitorous and dangerous she can be.

I also am gobsmacked by the idea of them dating for 3 years and she demands a divorce after a year of marriage. Were we told whether she boinked him WBC or waited until after the wedding (which wouldn't be like her)? This makes no sense unless ultimately she had to face that she was incapable of loving anyone.

It was a combination of her realizing no man, except Mariano (she thinks), can satisfy her, and Marcelo telling her he was close to finding her sister. She demanded the divorce if he didn't drop the search for AnaLu. Marcelo refused. Seems to me that she only started the affair with Daniel (whom she can barely stand) just to seduce him into getting rid of her husband for her, since Marcelo was getting too close to finding her sister.

Which means that it will probably take longer than we can stand it for the sisters to encounter each other. From the second Ana Lucifer sees Ana Lucia she will think of only one thing: Murder. That might be the closing moment before we go on hiatus here.

Which annoys me big time.

Thanks for the wonderful recap!!

I agree with everyone's comments.

Jarifa, I don't like how Val wants to control AnaLlora and getting her away from her family is first and foremost. But I don't know how he can stand it at her house. It was all so quiet and boring there.

JudyB, I fear Ram's plan will be a disaster too.

Urban, I've actually liked having a reprieve from Ev. I was getting tired of him in every scene, manipulating everyone. Thanks for the info on JS.

Vivi, I'm loving V and TioM too. I also am now wondering, after AnaLet's visit to the foundation to learn more about Val, if the wig is to trick him. But for what purpose? I guess she just wants to hurt AnaLlora and have every man for himself. It is in her nature to act that ruthlessly.

Thanks Ria! Loved: "Llora responds with a phrase any potential suitor loves to hear." Haha, Llora should be suspicious of this guy who's supposedly in love with her even though she gives him so little.

One good thing about the upcoming double-episodes: at least more stuff will happen each night. Of course, it will take twice as long to watch, but it's still an improvement in that we only get a thimbleful of plot developments per episode.

Jarifa, yes! Valentin is preparing to sink his claws in and starting with suggestions that Llora moves away. Hope he is not successful, but she is so malleable to all the wrong influences, yet so strong-willed pushing away sensible suggestions. It's a mystery.

JudyB, I had to laugh as I kept losing focus and having to rewind during Ana Lu's long-suffering scenes with Nerina, so I didn't miss anything for the recap.
Definitely agree on Ramiro, he talks a good game, but Ana Le is not so easy to fool. While he is scheming thinking he played to her vanity, she is probably concocting her own plan and this will all get much worse for Ramiro before getting better.

Urban, I am amazing at Carlos de la Mota in this. He really does a great job at playing a mentally unstable vengeful character. Has been really interesting to see a new facet of him.
And happy 48th to Jorge Salinas. Maybe he is partying with Evaristo!

Vivi, looking forward to seeing Viridiana/Ana Le dynamic play out as well. Viridiana has just earned herself a homicidal enemy, but she looks like she can handle her own.

Julie, very good point on double episodes! You just made me more excitded about those - thanks!

The actress who plays Nerina is so good at making that face (like she has a mouthful of sour milk at a fancy dinner party and desperately wants to spit it out), that it was a tiny shock (and treat) to see her finally smile when AnaLu brought the basket of sweets.

I've seen Nerina in Destilando Amor, where she played a greedy mother, and in Alborada, where (IIRC) she played a helpless mother. Now she's playing a despondent mother. Okay, so she's always a mom of some sort - but there's some versatility too. Not a lot of smiling, though. (In DA her usual "smile" was a nasty smirk.)

Julie- Olivia Bucio (Nerina) is a really versatile actress. I first saw her in En Nombre del Amor, where she played the conniving/nasty mom of the galan. Then next tn I saw her in was Cuando Me Enamor, where she plays the super nice/cheerful/loyal BFF of the mother of the heroine. Totally different roles! After that I saw her in the rerun of Alborada, where as you mentioned she was woe-is-me helpless. And most recently we got to watch her simultaneously playing the fiercely protective, kind-hearted, hard-working adopted mother of the heroine in Quiero Amarte (wearing native braids and dress), at the same as we saw her as the rich, snobby mom of the heroine in Hasta el Fin del Mundo.

Wait, how could I not mention Olivia Bucio in Amor Bravio? My favorite role for her yet. She is both fiercely (over) protective of her daughter the heroine, both kind and a bit of a snob, while being a total fool and falling into the clutches of the villain. She has a magnificent and sad story arc of love, regrets and redemption.

Yes, she's good. Televisa has a lot of great supporting actors. They don't get the same kind of attention that the big stars do, but these TNs wouldn't work without them.

Julie- You'll probably like this behind the scenes video from the dinner party Televisa threw last year for it's 50 most long-standing actors-- basically all the fabulous actors who typically play the parents, grandparents, and nanas of the protagonists. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzI8mGyU4m0

Do we know what the purpose of the Ana Llora wig is for? To trick Ramiro or Valentin?

As for AnaLe and Mariano: well Ana Le's seeing Mariano and Viiridiana iin what appears to be a compromising position -- at least to the demented eyes of Ana Leticia -- this could push her to accept Ramiro's offer to become her novia to provoke Mariano. She needs a plan to get back into the spotlight with Mariano. Now it appears that Viiridiana poses a threat. She's a sick cookie.

Wow Vivi. That video was great. Loved seeing all the veteran actors. And gotta love that Ana Martin. Some of those gals clearly have had multiple plastic surgeries on their faces (and who knows where else), and lots of hair coloring.

Ana Martin is just who she is, with gray hair y todo. Have to love the serenity and inner "temple" she must have to maintain her naturalness in the midst of so much tampering in the name of glamor. That lady is clearly grounded.

I'll have to watch that video tonight. (I haven't seen Ana Martin in ages.) Thanks!

Thank you for a great recap, Tia.

I believe the wig is for Valentin. Mariano made a comment, STTE that "we don't know what he's really after" that caused AnaLe's ears to perk up. Later, when she saw him with her sister and Ernestina invited him to eat with the family, Mariano's words ran through her head again and she got this really calculating look on her face as she stared at Valentin. I just hope that when she's in disguise el imbecil de Ramiro doesn't see her and makes some comment about the "trick" they're playing on AnaLeticia, fool that he is. Of course, both Valentin and Ramiro know (orshould know) AnaLaura well enough to tell the difference between the two, but hey, this is a telenovela, after all.

Oops, I meant thank you, Tia (not Ria)! Kindle autocorrect, you suck!

And again!!!! Ria, Ria!

Ooooh, good thought Anon. I don't always pay close attention, so I often miss little things like that. Scary to think that even if her plan with Valentin fails, she might still find out about Ramiro's "trick."

Whaaa? No mention of Zepeda shirtless? Well, at the very least I was thrilled :D

@Ria: Spectacular recap! Loved:

"Ramiro would like to think that he is the cat, luring Ana Le into the trap with a piece of cheese"

"A phrase any potential suitor loves to hear"

"What would he do when she says yes though – kiss her on the forehead and hold her hand?"

@JudyB: I agree, Ram is no match for our little murderess. When his back is against the wall, he's usually quick to give up. We'll see how long he plans to keep up.

@Vivi: I too was glad Rem & Ram told Santi to wait to confront Ana Let, b/c once she snares him in her manipulative grasp there's no telling how much longer he'll be stuck in her whirlwind of deceit. Btw, you're like a connoisseur of telenovelas! Do you sip and swish, or do you chug these episodes down with cheese? :P

@Urban: That's what I'm afraid of too. I'm happy seeing the reunion of everyone else, but I don't want Ana Let to have any steps ahead. Murder or another induced coma for anything that gets in her selfish path.

@Carvivlie: Me too, I like Evaristo but I felt like we were getting overexposure. He's more of a dark horse when he leaves us some mystery.

@Julie: Oh yeah, I almost forgot about the 2 hr epis! I'm used to back-to-back binge watching so this'll hopefully give the story a nice flow. Lol @ "Nerina is so good at making that face (like she has a mouthful of sour milk)"

@Anon 3:09: I'm thinking it's def for Tin. She went to the salon soon after she had a flashback about her argument w/ TioM regarding Tin's involvement w/ Llora (writer's foreshadowing). And we saw her in this epi trying to get more dirt on him (I suppose so he doesn't find it weird that Wiggy Azalea knows nothing about him when he meets her as Llora).

@Anon 3:39: Yes! I agree. I'm worried that she'll leave Tin & bump into Ramiro where he accidentally spills the beans. But I think Tin is more likely to be fooled than Ramiro. Remember, they're childhood friends so he should be able to tell the difference b/w them. But yea, with these writers *shrug* ju nebber no

I just happened upon this video which could be the inspiration for Ana Lucifer.

What say you, amigos?

Urban- Ana Leticia does seem to share the same mental illness as Carolyn. Let's hope they share the same fate.

Thanks, Ria. My fave line: After what must have seemed as a century to absent-minded Llora, Tin is ready to leave.

Hey, Ana Laura, if you don't trust Ramiro and Tin just doesn't float your boat, you know you can go novio-less, right?

Anon - Oh no, now I'm scared Ramiro's gonna blab to AnaLe's fake AnaLaura. Honestly, he could stop his plan now cause he's already proven to AnaLaura that her sis is a quick liar.

Loving Mariano and Viridiana.

Yikes Urban...that was a terrifying video. All the more so since it was a real life case. One can't say "it's just a story". Worst part, the little lady will get out in 25 years. Still young enough to be attractive and commit some more mayhem. Definitely a soul sister for Ana Leticia.

Anon 3:39, autocorrect tricks me daily, so I totally understand!! And like Niecie, you made me wonder about Ram spoiling his own plan with a disguised Ana Le!

Anna, next time Zepeda will be duly pointed out. Also, maybe we'd even get a shot of tio Mariano eventually - depending on how this romance continues to evolve!

Vivi, this was a great video - thanks! Really enjoyed seeing so many familiar actors.

Urban, like JudyB, I also thought that video was very chilling and in Ana Le's style.

Niecie, yes! Llora puzzles me continuously too. And you bring up a good point - if she were novio-less, perhaps we'd see less of her on the screen. Win-win: for us, and for her mental health.
