Yago #42. Tuesday July 26, 2016. BabyFace Is Ready To Rain Mayhem On Gotham. Let The Game Begin!

At a glance

-- Nobody died today.
-- The Red Converse Killer discovered Yago's secret church meetings with Melina.
-- Abel joins BabyFace's counter-revenge alliance.

A closer look

Flashback. A Bouffant-less Katia is visiting an apartment with her then boyfriend, Leo. They decided to live together though Katia is skeptical. Not about Leo but rather about her own ability to mess up the relationship. Katia is an infamous ruiner of good things, it seems. Leo insists the two of them will be just fine. Sure enough, Leo walks in one day and finds her drugged off her rocker with some random half-naked dude. Before leaving her, Leo says he has done everything he could to make her happy, to make her realize that she is a happy person. But he concedes defeat: She managed to destroy him along with the love he felt for her. Katia's voiceover narration reflects on life and life decisions: “Life is a blank canvas and we are the ones who decide what to draw on it. It is full of possibilities. (...) When I have the possibility to choose, I always pick the wrong path. Years ago, I decided to leave that canvas blank. What would be the point of painting on it, if you’re just going to end up ruining it?”
Present time. At Bar Ámbar, Katia asks Julia, after much hesitation: “Do you think Teo and I make a nice couple?” She retracts the question immediately: “Well, I don’t make a nice couple with anyone. I’m not anyone’s partner...” She confides to Julia that Teo said things to her today that made her panic and... Julia interrupts her: “To me, the only thing that love cannot withstand is cowardice, and you’re being a coward right now.” Julia suggests that Katia actually form a couple with Teo before worrying about how cute their couple looks. Katia figures it’s too late for her. Julia has a better idea: Surprise him! Katia repeats this suggestion a few times, as if to convince herself of its validity, then she writes it down on her clipboard: “Surprise him!”

Fidel spies on Julia on his tablet. When Selma walks in, he pretends that he is just being cautious. Selma can tell he is dying to get closer to his daughter, in spite of all the doubts he professes.

At Casino Paraíso, Lucio accuses Yago of being Fidel’s pawn. Yago wants Lucio to give his boss a message: The offer has expired and Bar Ámbar is no longer for sale. Lucio taunts Yago that his big talk doesn’t mean a thing because Lucio is now a free man. Not for long, threatens Yago.

Teo apologizes to Julia for Katia’s earlier behavior: “She isn’t like this.” Julia thinks Katia doesn’t like her. Teo promises that when the two young women get to know each other better, they’ll really hit it off.

On his way out of Casino Paraíso, Yago bumps into Camilo and Sara. He accuses Camilo of not being a man of his word. “What about you? Are you a man of your word? You said you loved my sister!” lashes out Sara. Camilo escorts her to Lucio’s office. She thanks him for everything. After Camilo leaves, Lucio asks what Sara is grateful for and why Camilo invited her to dinner. She tells him about the recording. Lucio acts surprised. Sara wonders how a guy like Yago ended up in their lives. Lucio promises to help her get back at Yago for all the wrong he has done them. Sara asks Lucio to take her home because she feels as if her head is about to explode.

Yago is ticked off that his move didn’t play out as expected. All this happened because Sara and Lucio are more powerful now, thanks to Camilo’s help. Yago instructs Katia to investigate the nature of Camilo’ relationship with Sara. He looks pretty jealous, prompting Katia to ask whether he still loves Sara. It doesn’t matter what he feels for Sara. He is determined to destroy her! She and everybody who is behind what’s happening will pay for what they did!

At Casa Sarquis, Sara takes her makeup off with cotton balls and abundant tears. The camera lingers on a photo of Matías that’s resting on her nightstand. This does not augur well.

The next morning, Matías is chatting with the Guerreros on his laptop when Sara urges him to hurry up or else he’ll be late for school. Her phone rings. It’s Grandpa Cockroach calling from jail to ask why she hasn’t come to see him and offer him her condolences. He says he was so depressed after Ámbar’s death that they had to put him in a wheelchair. He lost one daughter and is not ready to lose the other one, the only one he has left. Yeah yeah yeah, Sara isn’t buying his baloney.

At Casa Guerrero, Bruno signs out from his chat with Matías and Jonás spots a video posted on TuYoube (tee hee) demanding a retraction from Damián Madrigal. Jonás doesn’t want Bruno to get himself into trouble. Bruno vows to clear Alejandra’s name and disseminate the truth using the means he has at his disposal, in other words, by becoming a prolific TuYouber.

Back at Bar Ámbar, Katia apologizes to Julia: “I'm not like this!” Julia says Teo said the same thing and he is in love with Katia. “Did he tell you that?” asks Katia, her face glowing with expectation. Julia says Teo didn’t have to because you can tell a mile away. “You make a lovely couple” adds Julia. Katia maintains they are not a couple. She repeats this many times but her expression reflects the sudden realization that Teo and her are indeed a couple.

At church, Melina reports to Yago that Bruno is back digging into dangerous territory. She is afraid for his safety. Yago promises to take care of Bruno. Besides, he assures her that all this brouhaha will end soon. “Soon! Soon!” repeats an exasperated Melina. Meanwhile, Lucio is out of jail running amok and turning her grandson against his true family. Melina won’t permit that Matías be raised by that monster. Yago asks how the custody procedure is going. It’s not going anywhere because the lawyer says the law sides with Sara and Lucio. Yago promises he’ll get custody of Mati when all of this is over. Melina isn’t convinced: “When? Time passes and all we have seen is tragedy after tragedy!” Yago promises it’ll be over soon. Every time Yago promises to do something he makes a right mess of it!

Camilo is in his greenhouse, looking despondent as he sits amongst his orchids, potted plants and other green babies. “I lost my daughter. She is now with Fidel Yampolski! *Expletive*!” Tomás informs him that Julia hasn’t been seen with either Fidel or Selma. “But she now works for Yago Vila. This means that she has switched sides (cambiar de bando)!” concludes Camilo. Lucio shows up. Camilo wants to know how they are progressing in the Abel front. Any news? Lucio says that Abel is a wreck (estar hecho una piltrafa) ever since Ámbar’s death. Camilo reminds Lucio that he gave him an order and that he needs to be put in touch with Abel before the end of today. Before leaving, Lucio asks: “I need to know when I will get back the money that Yago took from me. When?” Camilo puts his employee’s priorities straight: “I need to get in touch with Abel. When? Before the end of today! Later, we’ll see about your thing. Leave!”

Sara visits Damián in jail. He bewails the death of his pobre niña/poor little girl. He doesn’t understand how anyone could gun her down when she has never harmed a soul. Sara doesn’t believe he ever cared about Ámbar, otherwise, he would never have stolen the money destined for her operation. Grandpa Cockroach asks just how many times he must apologize for that. Sara says it doesn’t matter anymore. Damián swears he’ll find who murdered his daughter and he’ll kill him with his own hands. Sara gets the hint: Obviously, he can’t kill his daughter’s killer if he is in jail. Well, forget it! Even though Lucio works for Camilo Michell, neither she nor Lucio would lift a finger to get Damián released from jail. Damián bows his head down and starts weeping in silence. Sara is taken aback. She asks if he is OK. He nods. After a guard wheels him back to his cell, Damián gets up from his wheelchair and wipes his crocodile tears. Then, them snappy cockroach synapses start firing away.

Back at church, Melina says she’ll go looking for Abel to urge him to confess everything, like he had planned to do. Yago tells her to stay out of it. If Abel confesses, Yago won’t be able to move freely. In that case, Melina says she can’t intervene if Bruno and/or Jonás want to investigate Abel. Yago asks her to do it for him but she refuses. She is done lying to his brother and father. The tragedies of their family have all happened because of lies. She leaves and Yago follows behind her a few moments later.

A red converse is shown crushing a cockroach (an actual cockroach). Hernán and his toupee witness Yago and Melina’s encounter from the upper gallery. He reports this to his boss who instructs him to investigate why the Spaniard and Omar Guerrero’s mom are having secret meetings.

Camilo visits Casa Sarquis to check on Sara after yesterday’s shocking reveal. She says she is feeling better, though the past few days have been really difficult. Camilo trusts she will get over this crisis because she is a strong, powerful, courageous and beautiful woman. Every adjective is uttered in a way that reveals Camilo’s interest in Sara was a surprising by-product of his counter-revenge plan. He offers her a job as his new Public Relations (PR) manager. She accepts. Can she start now for the Annual Tournament of Casino Professionals that Casino Paraíso is organizing? Of course she can! They are all smiles. They hug. Camilo marvels at Sara’s gorgeous smile. Ooh, this boy is a goner!

Lucio visits Abel and urges him not to self-destruct. Abel says he can’t live without Ámbar. “Not even to find out who killed her?” asks Lucio. The culprits are Yago and Fidel. And Lucio has the red USB key to prove it.

At Bar Ámbar, Yago instructs Katia to put a stop to Bruno’s excessive sniffing around. She says it won’t be an easy task because Bruno is Mr. Brave and Mr. Stubborn, just like his older brother. The Guerrero boys inherited these traits from their mother. On a tangential note, Katia has interesting news to share with Yago: Sara Madrigal is now the new PR manager of Casino Paraíso, according to the promotional literature of the Annual Tournament of Casino Professionals. Before Yago can ask, Katia says she already put his name on the guest list for the tournament.

Abel is enraged upon hearing the news that Yago had Ámbar killed. But he wonders about the hitman who was in the operating room? Why did Yago pull that stunt and ask Abel to help him save Ámbar? Lucio figures it’s because Yago needed a witness to prove he had nothing to do with Ámbar’s murder. Abel is ready to kill Yago right this instant. Lucio says that's not the best course of action. They need to cut the Yago evil from the root, i.e. Fidel Yampolski. Lucio wants Abel to join him in working for Camilo Michell. Abel says he can’t trust Lucio. “You and I have been through it all together and Ámbar was part of my family. I want justice!” proclaims Lucio. Abel asks what’s in it for him if he agrees. He’ll get to be Lucio’s right-hand man. Lucio claims he exerts great influence on Camilo and Abel will gain a lot from being on his team. Abel has heard this story many times before. And every single time the genius plans turn out to have the worst endings. Lucio insists this time will be different.

Teo reports to Selma that Julia is feeling a lot better and it’s not just a mask (careta) she is putting on. Besides, Camilo hasn’t given signs of life lately, even though his people continue to roam the area around the bar. Selma can’t wait for the moment to be with her daughter again. To love her, take care of her, protect her. Unfortunately, she is alone in her yearning and suffering because she feels that Fidel sees Julia as the daughter of his enemy.

At Casa Guerrero, Bruno is hopping mad because all the videos he uploaded on TuYoube and Youvideo have been taken down. He thinks it’s Damián who’s behind this, though he can’t figure out how he did it from jail. In reality, this was Katia’s handy work.

Back at Bar Ámbar, Katia tells Yago he has to be impeccable for tonight’s event. However, she understands his restlessness when he is around Sara. Yago assures her that everything is under control in that department, so please don’t judge him! Katia assures him that she is not being judgmental. She knows what it’s like to be around someone that moves you. Yago wants to know what’s up with Katia today. She evades answering and runs back to her bar-revamping duties. Julia comes down the stairs with a box and, from afar, her brown wig makes her look like Ámbar. Yago says he learnt about Selma’s visit and Julia’s refusal to speak with her. Julia says she came back to Mexico City to look for answers. That’s why she asked Yago for a job, to be near the people who can provide some of the answers she needs. On the one hand, Julia wants to get to know her real parents, but on the other hand, she feels like she’d be betraying Camilo. Yago tells her to take all the time she needs to sort out her feelings.

Camilo receives Abel in his greenhouse. He tells him they are in a war and they need all the allies they can get. “Don’t worry” says Abel, “I brought heavy artillery”. Lucio declares that he and Abel worked together for years and “it’ll be a real pleasure to have him under my orders again!” Camilo tells Lucio not to get ahead of himself. Abel will work with them but he and Lucio will be equals. The person that Camilo assigned to work under Lucio is Hernán. Lucio protests, he needs someone he can trust and... Decision taken so scram! Lucio walks away defeated as Abel nonchalantly waves goodbye.

Lucio goes home to whinge about this to his ex-wife. Sara wonders what truly bothers Lucio: That Abel is no longer playing second-fiddle to him or that Abel is working with Camilo? Lucio tells her he can see that today’s visit to Damián injected her with daddy’s human warmth (calidez humana). Sara says she needs to get ready for her business dinner with Camilo. She is now his new PR manager, FYI. Lucio says he met Camilo today and he told him nothing about this. “The ups and downs of life, eh!” smirks Sara on her way to the bathroom.

Back at the greenhouse, Abel figures that, after what just happened, his compañere must be mad as F... “Well, mad as... Suspension points!” Camilo tells him to take it easy. From now on, Abel must get used to being considered as Lucio’s equal. Abel can totally live with that. Camilo wants the new addition to his team to contact his daughter Julia and get closer to her based on their common friendship with the lovely Ámbar, whose death Camilo laments, by the way. Abel’s mission is to infiltrate Yago’s group at Bar Ámbar.

At the Annual Tournament of Casino Professionals, hosted by Casino Paraíso, Yago asks to be seated in front of Sara. Camilo is talking Becker’s ears off about their joint business venture. Becker says Camilo makes more promises than a politician on campaign but what ultimately matters is results. Camilo assures his business partner that he’ll get results. Becker and Camilo sit down at the same table as Sara, Yago and Tomás. Becker greets Sara and says he is happy to see her after what happened with her husband. “Ex-husband” she corrects. She explains that Lucio and her made the wrong decisions and trusted the wrong people but they are not the kind to stay down. “We are better than ever, stronger than ever, because we have friends like Camilo Michell!” Yago jumps in with a jab directed at Camilo: “A person who can’t finish their grand project and can’t meet their objectives is not a good business partner and can’t be trusted”. Ooh, this boy is trying to get himself shot! Camilo reminds Yago that he (Camilo) is the host. As for the grand project, it is going splendidly (ir viento en popa) because Camilo is plenty experienced in sweeping little stones out of his way. He raises his glass: “¡Salud! Let’s drink for today and let the game begin!” May the odds be ever in your favor.

Abel visits the new Casa Sarquis, Lucio's sign-in bonus with Camilo, and he is very impressed. He can tell the new boss likes to live in style. Lucio wants to know what went down between Camilo and Abel. Camilo wanted to give me a vintage motorbike as a gift, that's all. (...) The guy thinks I have pretty good prospects. Lucio sniggers at this: You can tell he doesn't know you! Maybe the one who doesn't know me is you, compañere!” retorts Abel. He says he knows how to keep secrets, including the ones his new boss has just confided in him. He teases Lucio:Do you think our jefe will treat me to a penthouse like this, or to a better one, compañere?” If Lucio had laser vision and could pierce holes through his enemies just by glaring at them, Abel would now be a flour sieve.

Back at Casino Paraíso, Sara excuses herself from the table and Yago follows her. He says he's very sorry for what happened to Ámbar; he's still overwhelmed by it all. Sara accuses him of being a sicko: How can he say he is sorry for Ámbar's death when he is the one who killed her? Yago vehemently denies this accusation. Camilo is the one who murdered Ámbar to get back at him! And am I supposed to believe you? After what you did with our wedding? I trusted you once and I'm not going to do it again!” Well, the woman has a point.

At the card table, Becker asks what the Spaniard meant with his earlier hints. Didn't Camilo tell Becker he had everything under control? Camilo confirms that everything is indeed under control. The Spaniard is but a tiny stone in their shoe. Camilo phones Hernán and orders him to do what he was instructed to do. Hernán says he's on it. He rings the doorbell of Casa Guerrero and Melina answers the door. ¡Ay, nanita!

Hey Patio Pals! Sorry for the tardiness and many thanks to all of you for taking the time to read and/or comment on yesterday's episode.

Enjoy the recap and the discussion. Good night :)

Thanks so much, Nandicta. I worry that you aren't getting any sleep!

Did your recording cut off a bit early? Two things happened at the end. First, Sara gets up from the table, Yago follows, and she openly accuses him of murdering Ambar, which he denies of course. And the very last scene is of Hernan knocking on casa Guerrero's door and Melina answering. Yikes!

Loved seeing Alex Sirvent as Katia's ex. It would have only been made better had he been shirtless. :) All this focus on Katia and Teo is making me nervous that one of them is about to die.

Got a big kick out of Camilo making Abel Lucio's equal, and Lucio's reaction. Also Lucio's reaction to Camilo getting close to Sara. Yeah, this association isn't as fun as he thought it would be.

Sara- The only vixen in telenovela-land who can seduce a man with just a smile, while wearing a shapeless jacket, buttoned up to her throat.

Just as I predicted earlier, Abel joins forces with Daddy Michell's B613 Alliance.

Nandicta: I'm hoping Yago & the Avengers start bracing themselves because it's going to get ugly very fast.

Plus, I'm praying hard for Melina tonight!

Thank you for adding those last few scenes. The episode I watched ended with "Let the game begin!" then the rolling credits. Oh my Dios! Danger is roaming around the Guerreros. I knew it before the Red Converse Killer showed up in that church! The minute Yago promised Melina that he'll take care of Bruno when they were lighting candles I knew things will get dangerous for the Guerrero family! Every time Yago promises to take care of something or someone, he always makes a right mess of it! In the last two episodes, he promised to take care of Julia, watch out for Bruno and get custody of Mati. Things are looking bad for these 3 poor people!

Alex Sirvent is yummy!

Sara is sexy-on-a-stick! Goes to shows that it's not about parading around half-naked! Beauty and seduction is confidence, charisma and attitude. In the same vein, I can't remember who mentioned this before, but I love how the women in this TN dress. They dress like regular women: Regular daytime and work clothes depending on their age and status, then when they need to go out for a meal or a special event they dress up accordingly. The make-up and hairstyles also reflect what ordinary human females look like when they are not invited to the Oscars! :)

Good night! :)

You're right, Steve. Things are getting ugly and I hate that Melina and the Guerreros are getting dragged into this sinister revenge and counter-revenge plans! Good night :)

We also need to worry for Teo & Katia too because they're likely targets of assassination.

I found another video with the full episode and added the three missing scenes at the end. Thank you, Vivi for bringing my attention to this.

I also altered Katia's flashback opening paragraph and added quote + compiled vocabulary at the end.

Before I forget, many thanks CountxAlacran for your most excellent recap of Thursday's episode. I finally got a chance to read it today. Poignant but beautifully narrated.

Happy reading and happy discussing! :)

Another great outing Nandicta. Thanks you.

"“When? Time passes and all we have seen is tragedy after tragedy!”

This Yago feller didn't do enough prep and research on the front end.

Got busted practicing my sexy Sara smirk. Mr tofie commented "you are so cute when you do your mouth that way". Errrrrrr, CUTE, not what I was going for

Tofie: Yago should've been more prepared for Daddy Michell & the B613's counter coup d'état.

The only people who know Yago's true identity: Ambar (RIP :(], Melina, Teo, Katia, Fidel & Selma.

I'm really scared for the Guerrero's, especially Melina.

At Casa Sarquis, Sara takes her makeup off with cotton balls and abundant tears. The camera lingers on a photo of Matías that’s resting on her nightstand. This does not augur well.

Great description and great foreshadowing of more tragedy top come. All wrapped up in three tight sentences. Love the way you write.

Like Vivi, enjoyed Katia's flashback because it had Alex Sirvent in it. More of that please!

Thanks as always for the vocabulary and you picked the perfect sentence to highlight. Not going to practice a Sara smile (though I wish mine had that power) but I will practice saying that sentence en español!

Thanks Nandicta of the Sleepless Nights! Fab recap as always.

Thank you so much, Nandicta, for adding those last scenes and some great vocabulary. But I really hope you got some sleep too!

Tofie- I'll take cute! I do understand Sara's power though, because a man with a sexy smile can make me melt.

Thanks so much Nandicta!

Agree I was hopeful when I saw Alex Sirvent that he and Katia would at least have a love scene so he could take off his shirt. Soo disappointed!

Wow Katia is acting like a high schooler in love for the first time. She's spazzing out all over the place.

I am still hoping Abel is suspicious about Ambar's death and finds out the truth before he does more harm.

OMG I'm so worried about Melina! I can't take another death or kidnapping right now. That Hernan is a killing machine. No thoughts or feelings.

Sara playing Camilo but for how long? He is not the type to play with because everyone is disposable to him, except Julia.

Carvivile: Daddy Michell is the Daddy Pope of the show & Julia is Olivia Pope 2.0

Maybe Steve. Julia will have to do some cleaning up of messes and drink some red wine in a white suit before I'll give her Olivia Pope status! Right now she is the mess and it does look like she is trying to fix herself. We'll see how things develop.

This show is more cutthroat than "Pasion Y Poder" was!

Thanks, Nandicta. Superb recap.

Loved Camilo putting Abel on the same level as Lucio. Take that, Lucio. There was a funny moment when Abel said he'd brought his artillery and Camilo looks at Lucio for translation. I know Camilo is a madman, but he's always intriguing to watch.

Sara is a smooth, sexy operator, but I'm not so sure Camilo is as much taken with Sara as he appears. Perhaps he thinks flattery will better butter her up to do his bidding. Surely he wouldn't trust a woman who would be so disloyal and dismissive of her ex.

Niecie- That conversation was hilarious when Abel kept peppering his sentences with English and odd slang, and Camilo had to ask for clarification or ask Lucio to translate.

Thank you, Nandicta. "Them snappy cockroach synapses start firing away" is my quote of the day. :-)

(I noticed the TuYoube too, tee hee. For a minute there I thought I needed to uncross my eyes.)

Bwahahaha Abel doesn't have to answer to Lucio any more! And again the cigarette did not get lit. Camilo probably wouldn't want him smoking around his precious green babies anyway.

I am skeptical of Camilo's interest in Sara. I too think he's just buttering her up. I think he just wants to keep Sara and Lucio apart because they're more useful to him individually than as a pair. In fact, he probably sees more potential in Sara than in Lucio. But I think he also enjoys messing with people.

What a sad-but-true commentary it is that "nobody died today" is a valid and useful note to include in the At-a-Glance.

Without Julia around Camilo may need some womanly affection and Sara has her charms. Plus, we all know she has no problem conning people so they could make a good team. He's a little old for her but that has never gotten in the way of a TN couple.

I did think there was a moment when Yago responded to Lucio "that he would lose everything again" that Lucio had a look of confusion on his face as if "why me?" From Lucio's point of view he had done nothing to Yago, to Fidel yes, but Yago no.

Carvivile: I'm going to be looking forward to the recap from Wednesday night!

Let's pray hard for the Avengers & the Guerrero's.

Fortunately, I saw the Wednesday night episode this morning, so I KNOW my recap won't be so late this time! I will post a discussion header with highlights at 6:30, and complete the blow-by-blow later tonight.

(knock on wood)

Thanks Julie. Looking forward to it. I plan on watching the episode when I get home from work today.

So what is up with Damian. What is he doing in a wheelchair? I know, he says he was so depressed they had to put him in a wheelchair. Obviously his legs are good enough to stand on, so what is the deal with that. Might he be having some kind of real health problem he won't admit to? Oh, and the tears on his face. Those were genuine Sarquis tears of self-pity. So touching.
