Week 28 (Aug 29)
#125-Mon Aug 29-Anita (If there is one)
Let me know if there are any other changes. I can delete this and put up a corrected copy.
Apolo and his henchies make good on the promise to leave Luis a little reminder that he is to figure out how to pay for a lawyer for Apolo. Luis gets banged up. The prison doc tells him he ought to turn in the aggressors because next time he might not be so lucky. Luis says he has no intention of dying in this rat hole. They can bang him up all they like, but they aren’t going to break him. (I’m disappointed he didn’t get a purple eye like Apolo promised.
La Malquerida and Javier are still at the market. He complains they have enough food for a month. All of a sudden, she sees a police officer and a plainclothes undercover type who seem to be looking her way. She turns tail and flees, leaving Javier hold the bags, so to speak.
Pedro and Amelia are outstanding in their field of corn. Build it and they will come, they promise each other. Amelia has the last word on where the house will be situated. Fer approaches and sees their long faces and their reluctance to tell her something. It worries her. They do have something to tell her. Amelia says she must be told. Fer goes through some serious rewinding to see if she missed something along the way. Out with it! Qué pasa? They finally explode with happiness and share the news that Amelia proposed marriage to Pedro and he accepted. How modern! Everyone is happy.
La Mal has run all the way home and is concerned when she hears someone’s come knock knock knockin’ at her door. Marcos identifies himself and she lets him in. He’s there to ask her out to eat. They end up back at the outdoor market. He tells her he frequents it a lot and didn’t know if she would like it. There’s some casual flirting going on and at least they seem at ease with each other. (I have to be careful, because that’s what I said about Pedro and Marissa and look how that turned out.) Then he tells LaMal he likes that she doesn’t have a novio. She recoils momentarily, but the moment passes and she’s smiling again, looking forward to more food. Marcos is amused as LaMal is at the taco booth, loading up on carbs.
Fernanda, Pedro and Amelia are still being happy out in the field. Amelia announces that they are going to build a house big enough for all the Perez/Gomez-Ruiz/Altamiranos. (Well, there goes my propositions from the weekly front page.) Pedro thinks he’s going to assume all the building stuff, but Amelia reminds him they are a team and she has the where-with-all and the who and the what to build a proper house with (and Amelia has the last word). Fer thinks they have nothing to worry about. Love is all they need. They could even live in the cabaña and be happy because they have each other. Fer is so pleased that everything is falling into place. They only need to find Camila for life to be complete.
Luis returns to the rock-strewn exercise yard. Solórzano accosts him and says it’s obvious he didn’t learn his lesson the first time. Luis ignores him. He’s already trying to figure out how to get out of this place. He knows his days are numbered if he doesn’t get out soon. Later, we see he’s on trash detail. He realizes that the area is too well guarded.
Felipe and Fer are in the cabaña. She’s puzzled there’s no trace of Camila. Felipe isn’t able to shed any light. At least she is sure nothing bad has happened or they would have heard by now. Carlos arrives. He and Felipe greet each other (no rancor, good) and Felipe leaves. She gives Carlos the news that her parents are going to remarry. Carlos is happy for them, but complains that it’s twice for Pedro and Amelia and not once for themselves. Fer knows he’s trying to be funny, but she tries to get him to understand as she restates her position—until they find Camila, there’s no boda. Smoochies follow.
Mariana is telling Blanca there’s no possibility of finding Camila. She ran away. She doesn’t want to be found. There’s no way of knowing if she was kidnapped or just swallowed up by the earth. Blanca wants to know what she seems to know about all this, or is Mariana just pretending to be concerned. Blanca says the only constant in Mariana’s life is knowing how to be a bad person. Mariana finally admits she found Camila, so she knows what she’s talking about. Unfortunately, Camila ran away from her and she couldn’t catch up (putting herself in the best light possible).
Blanca is astonished she hasn’t told Hernán. Mariana answers why torment him. Blanca says that Mariana never thinks things through and that’s why they never turn out right. If Hermy knew, he could tell the detective and they could start looking for her there. She continues, even when Mariana is trying to be good, she’s bad. Mariana whines it’s not her fault. Blanca replies, no, it’s never your fault, but you always manage to become a victim.
Javier really did take Maribel out on a “date” to eat in a restaurant. She looks quite nice, happy, smiling, enjoying herself. Then he lets her know that this is part of her therapy. Her happy face fades and she gets defensive. He explains that she needs to be out in public and be able to control her urges. He starts a therapy session right there by asking if she’s tempted to palm a fork or take a napkin. She grabs the napkin and makes it into an origami swan. See, she claims, her hands can do other things besides steal and the napkin? It was put there for them to USE. She’s a little pissy with him, but he tries to tell her that he wants her to be ok. He’s growing fond of her and he’s not saying it as a doctor, but as a friend. Maribel’s eyes light up again.
Is Amelia trying on wedding dresses? Fer is the one who gets to say Yes to the Dress or No. The first one is an ankle-length royal blue fitted gown with sparkly straps. (It’s still a bit on the frumpy side, but I think the color suits her.) Fer says No. Next is a slightly above the knees, silly little white sheath with a poufy neckline and a black zipper that reaches all the way down her back and ends under her rump. Fer says Yes.
Fer wants to see her mother in a long white wedding gown for the church wedding. Amelia says she’s too old and would feel ridiculous in white. Fer says no one is too old for wearing white for a church wedding. Fer has her illusions about weddings. Regardless, it was a sweet mother-daughter bonding time.
Carlos, meanwhile, has gone home to mommy to complain about the delays in being able to marry Fer. Marissa advises him to support Fer in wanting to find Camila first. She reminds him how loving, steadfast and understanding she was when Carlos was going through tough times. He says that was different, those were serious family issues. This deals with someone who is merely a friend. Marissa says he shouldn’t be judgmental. Carlos says she’s right and backs down. She tells him he can’t tell Fer what is more important than something else. This involves someone close to Fer who has disappeared.
Carlos mentions that Pedro and Amelia are getting married again. (Carlos says something I couldn’t catch after 3 rewinds, so it couldn’t have been that critical, but I liked that Marissa says to him, it’s not a competition.) Carlos thinks even she and Ignacio will get to the altar before he does. He does a terrific job promoting Iggy as a potential replacement for Luis. Marissa is a bit embarrassed by the direction the talk is going (but secretly, I think she kind of likes the idea). She tells Carlos she’ll think about it.
Pedro gives Fernanda a pep talk about her inheritance, while Maribel looks on. He must have been listening to the Patio chatter over the weekend, because he urges her to use the money to help people any way she wishes. He suggests giving every child in town a musical instrument to bring joy and laughter into their lives. (Hey, and what about a computer, books, three meals a day, new clothes instead of hand-me-downs, sleep-away camp, electricity and running water inside their houses, better schools, free education, I could go on and on. I was going to add a library, but then I remembered, the town already had one.)
Fer has come to the Altamirano place to tell her mother about changing her mind about the inheritance. Amelia already knew. Pedro passed on the news. Mariana breaks the spell just by entering the room. She accuses Fer of coveting the inheritance all along and was just pretending to not want it. She tells Fer quite matter of factly that in order to get her out of the house, Fer will have to kill her. (Oh, puleeze, Mariana, only you would think that way—oh, I’m wrong, Luis, Pedro, Leo and Carlos have all said that. And Carlos got into a lot of trouble for saying it.) Fer just stares at her. Mariana begins to bitch about how she had to live with her father and had to endure him. Fer gets in her face and gives Mariana what-for. She, Fer, didn’t have to endure him, she enjoyed him and she didn’t have to live with him, she shared with him. Mariana claims Fer can’t fool her with her acts of goodness. After all, just look at her parentage. (Wow, she included herself in the bloodline!) Fer tells Mariana that until she, Fer, decides what to do with Her Hacienda, Mariana is welcome to stay. But once she decides, Mariana will have to go. Mariana is speechless for one hot Mexican second.
Hernán walks in hearing the tail end of Mariana’s harangue. She tries to bring him in on her side, but he tells her he doesn’t have time. He and Amelia have an important meeting. Amelia is ready to go. He tells Fer he can’t help look for Camila until later. Fer says she’ll go by herself. She kisses Amelia and Hermy and says a curt goodbye, Tía and exits stage right.
LaMalquerida is back at Isy’s modeling school taking a class in pair-runway-strutting. She’s doing ok until she turns, head in the air and bumps into the other gal. The student gets huffy and LaMal gets puffy. Isy appears. Again, she refers to LaMal as walking like a horse. Again, there is nothing Isy can say to take LaMal’s eyes off the prize—Miss Mexico. (You GO, girl.) LaMal has paid her money and she expects to complete the course. Isy and the other tall, potential model material gather together to titter and twitter, leaving LaMal out. She doesn’t care. She sits on the floor and starts working on that other taco she had stashed.
Lucero is giving her statement to Medina in his office inside the jail lock-up. There’s nothing more she can add. She’s sorry. She’s not holding anything back. She wants the pervy prof off the streets more than anyone. To his question, Lucero says she feels no affection for the man. She did love him once, but the man she fell in love with is not the same man he is now. She doesn’t blame him. He’s a sick man. Medina gets upset and is frustrated by her attitude. He, of course, wants a full-fledged criminal to stick these charged to.
Lucero leaves. She’s met in the hall by Rosaura. Luce thanks her for coming with her. Ros is glad to help. Luce explains she doesn’t like to be alone, then proceeds to describe all the PTSD symptoms she has. Ros says that’s to be expected, what she went through was nothing easy. Ros says it’s a matter of time and she’ll be able to see life differently. She tells Luce Diego can’t rob her of her life. As they leave, Luce tells Ros she feels as though Diego is following her.
Well, he is. There in the middle of the jail hallway, in plain sight, in broad daylight we see the pervy prof standing there talking to himself. He declares Lucero is his and he won’t rest until she’s back by his side, even if he has to use force to prove she still loves him.
Fer is wandering around the old quesadilla stand neighborhood by the railroad tracks, minus sheep. Of course, she finds Camila under the newspapers. She recognizes her by her bi-colored hair. Cam responds to Fer’s voice and gets up and they hug. Cam then pushes herself away because she’s so dirty, but that doesn’t matter to Fer. They hug again. She persuades Fer to come home. Cam doesn’t think her father wants her back. Fer indicates how Hermy exhausted himself looking for her. She has so much to tell Cam, two nephews that want to meet her.
Fer and Cam get to the Hacienda. Cam is afraid her stepmother is going to run her off again. She doesn’t want any more problems with her. Fer assures her that isn’t going to happen. That woman is a monster. She needs to reclaim her house, her room, her bed. Fer swears she won’t turn her back on Camila. Speaking of the monster, she walks in and sees Camila. Fern warns her right away not to mess with Camila because Fer is there to defend her.
Just then Hernán gets home and sees Camila standing there. He is stunned to see her and it takes a minute to register, but there is no holding back and they embrace and hug each other tightly. Wouldn’t it be nice if this were the last scene. But no, Mariana just has to speak up and claim, “We found her. Fer and I joined forces and Camila, at last, reappeared. Fer gives her a, “you dirty little liar,” look. Then she recalls all the times that bound the two girls together. (Ok, is this the third step we needed to get to the boda? Does it count if Demonengo gets ahold of Lucero again? Fer will probably count it as one step back.)
I am confused as to why Luis won't act as Apolo's lawyer. It seems like a win-win for everyone. Instead he is contemplating a harebrained prison escape?
Uh oh, el Mal sees cops and starts running? So, she's not out on parole? Maybe she could give Luis some insight on how to get out of jail prior to your official release date.
I thought Fer's response to the news Pedro and Amelia were to wed once again was touching, and Carlos' response that everyone is going to get married before we do was funny. I can understand his angst to a certain extent, but he has almost unfettered access to Fer, and if he wants "that," then just rent a motel room.
It was entirely correct that Fer was the one to find Camila. Her gentle encouragement was so great. Mariana really was motivated to find her, but could never give her the heartfelt love that Fer was able to do. With all the hugging, I suppose everyone now has head lice.
Blanca unloaded on Mariana big time. I'm surprised that Mariana didn't try to fire her again.
Poor Lucero. I can well imagine that she is experiencing PTSD symptoms, but perhaps we haven't seen the worst of this situation yet, what with creepy Diego still stalking her.
When Hernan saw Camila and hugged her, he completed his utter metamorphosis from angry, controlling overseer, to finally, probably for the first time in her life, a real live loving father.
Thanks again Anita. Just great.
David
"She turns tail and flees, leaving Javier hold the bags, so to speak", "Pedro and Amelia are outstanding in their field of corn" and "The student gets huffy and LaMal gets puffy" were just a few of my pared down list of favorites.
Camila was rescued! And by Fer, who has an extraordinary talent to find the missing. She obviously searches with her heart as well as her mind. Finally, a joyous Hernan and Camila reunion. While Mariana tried to rain on the parade, her words had no impact at all. Empty and vacuous, just like Mariana's heart.
“There’s some casual flirting going on and at least they seem at ease with each other”. Marcos is great – truly. And, yes, there is much to be said about being comfortable with someone. But, why settle for comfort when you can have sizzling spark! Jav and Malquerida belong together!
Why do I adore Blanca? “She continues, even when Mariana is trying to be good, she’s bad. Mariana whines it’s not her fault. Blanca replies, no, it’s never your fault, but you always manage to become a victim”. No nonsense, straight to the point truth. Mariana does not embrace that vision. Sadly.
“Marissa is a bit embarrassed by the direction the talk is going (but secretly, I think she kind of likes the idea)”. I do too! She and Ignacio are perfect.
Thrilled that Carlos and Fer, Amelia and Pedro, Marissa and Ignacio will be together. Very different love stories that took winding and unforeseen turns over the space of many years...
The only disquieting thought is will Lucero fall into the hands of "Demonengo" again?
David, I'm sure Luis is planning something but there doesn't seem to be any obvious avenue of escape. At least to me.
And I had to smile at Malquerida standing up to the bevy of beauties who obviously looked down on and mocked her. She has her eye on the prize and nothing will dissuade her. Loved that she continues to munch on her food that most of the others only dream about.
Anita, thank you. You've started my day off with pure pleasure. Gracias amiga.
Diana
I loved how coquettish Marissa got when Carlos mentioned Iggy. She's into it! Good!
Fer is the last person who should have dress approval over anyone else. ;)
I think Maribel and Javier have zip chemistry, but that was kind of mean for him to let her think it was a date and then tell her it's therapy. How humiliating.
So, so glad Camila has been found, now off to the showers! I cringed when Mariana took credit.
I shuddered when Diego showed up again. Ugh. I too fear he will go after Lucero again.
I hope the fact that Malq apparently is a prison escapee won't derail her potential romances. Love her. Send Isy to take her place in prison.
"I hope the fact that Malq apparently is a prison escapee won't derail her potential romances. Love her. Send Isy to take her place in prison".
What a great idea! All in favor??
Diana
Of course, I think Luis SHOULD rot in prison and Isy's modeling school should fail, Mariana should be abandoned--no, she is moved into the little hut Amelia first used after she returned to the hacienda, when Mariana was trying to keep her away from Don Fernando. I just can't see the writers rehabilitating her--she has so much blood and soot on her hands.
Did anyone hear "Javier" announce sort of in the middle of the show not to miss the last capitulos? Please, don't remind us. This has been a wonderful journey. Glad you all stuck with me.
BTW, Kendra and DY--We have a date--Saturday, October 1, 2016. Please e-mail me so I can keep in touch with you (almeglis9 at g mail etc.) Urban Anthropologist may join us from NYC!!! I know her, having met her a couple of times in NYC when we were there for visits. Mike and Emilia--I have your e-mail address and will be in touch soon.
Yes, I did hear Brandon advising us not to miss anything. Silly boy...
So glad so many of you are able to get together! Wishing you a joyous reunion.
Diana
When Amelia told Pedro that she had a construction company and could take of the building of the house, I had to laugh. I imagine she doesn't want another plywood shack, no matter how many bedrooms and bathrooms it has. Put Pedro in charge of the landscaping.
At the moment, I'm enjoying the Malquerida-Javier-Maribel storyline the most. I have no idea where the writers going with this love triangle, but after tonight's episode I have some suspicions about why they are throwing Malque and Issy together. And I'm still rooting for a Malque-Javier pairing.
"the pervy prof"
The least Diego could do is wear a ball cap and shades, is he begging to be caught or is he actually invisible?
Noooo, Javier don't tell her you like her even as a friend.
I have no idea where they are going with Malquerida, just don't let me down show.
I don't like Super O with Marissa, she doesn't deserve him. I would be ok with O and the reformed Amelia though she doesn't deserve him either.
Pedro and Marissa are better suited but so is Pedro and a garden hose.
I still like Fernanda for Javier but not sure Javier could handle her oldest boy Carlos throwing fits daily.
Was it last night or Friday night we saw the anorexic friend in a flashback so they got to know she's a loose end.
I'll be very disappointed if the triangle (well actually a rectangle if you count Marcos) is shown at the end at the weddings, kind of standing together, but not paired off.
I've also noticed how inconsequential Isy has been since Carlos and Fer got back together. No more plotting and planning and having things go awry. Looking back on it, it was fun to watch. Remember her trying to get into the graduation party on charm and no ticket--and failing? She's sort of out of Marissa's life permanently. She has no friends, only students to lord it over and push around. Even Carolina seems not to be affected by her prior successes.
"Pedro and Marissa are better suited but so is Pedro and a garden hose." That had me guffawing, because I just ordered a new hose--one of those lightweight thinggys that expand when water is coursing through it. Even that has more life than Pedro. How about a rake or a hoe instead?
I don't mind Marissa and Super O ending up together. They have a history together and he's been pining for her since (or maybe before) she was widowed. Even Luis was cognizant of his feelings and called him Marissa's lap dog.
And it was last night we had an Adelina fleeting glance. I usually don't bring up avances because they serve as spoilers even when they spoil what we think is going to get spoiled.
I don't know where they are going with Malq either but I have been drawn in hook, line and sinker. Count me in.
"Pedro and Marissa are better suited but so is Pedro and a garden hose". tofie, you just made me laugh out loud. Thank you.
Diana
Much better when I can read what's going on.
Now, the spoiled brat,"that was different. Those were serious family issues. this deals with someone who is merely a friend". I could smack that pompus jackass. Camilla is her family,
And she'll be his when they marry. O
I can see she they will have many many smackdowns with this spoiled moma's boy. What he wants is more important?
I wonder how long they'll stay hitched.
Mariana, liar liar pants on fire. That
Heffa don't care, she stands there and
Lies in front of fer. I'm glad she's on to tia. Cami knows who found her,&
She'll remember who hugged her. Dirt
And all. This was the best part of the
Episode, him holding his baby girl.
Will somebody please take Pedro to the
Men's store, so he won't show up to his wedding in a t-short and dusty old
Jeans. Maybe Iggy and filipe could. It
Could be a guys day out on the town. He better not show up in no T-shirt and jeans. That would be the last straw.
When mal came running she didn't seem
Like somebody on perole. I was hoping her and Javier could have a go at it.
This girl is a mystery.
Still don't like louy. Next!
So glad Amelia will help with the home
Building. left to Pedro they'd end up
With a mansion shack.
The creepy perv professor is on the
Prawl. SickO!!!!
Hopefully I can read everything later.
Dy - I agree, Fer is the last person who should have dress input, she and Amelia need (dare I say it) Mariana or Isabella to shop for them. She may be furry and mostly inappropriate but her clothes are cute and fashionable...same with Mariana - I just wish she had more shoe selection damn for a rich girl you are slacking in the shoe closet.
Marissa made me smile with her blushing.
Hern and Cam had me tearing up.
Carlos got on my nerves with his whining - yeah I said it.
Cant wait til tonight. Will email you Anita.
"Will somebody please take Pedro to the Men's store..... It Could be a guys day out on the town."
That would certainly be a change from all the wedding dresses we have to see in each and every telenovela (ok, or almost). After all, if Amelia was the one who proposed, then it follows we should get to watch as he picks something out.
Part 1:
Altamirano mansion: As the show starts, Camila asks forgiveness from the family. Mariana chimes in, “I also forgive you, Camila.” (Excuse me, but wasn’t Mariana the one who threw Camila out of the house—twice?)
Hernan thanks Fernanda for giving him the biggest happiness (dicha) of his life. Mariana tries to take credit, “And me, Hernan. We were both looking for her and found her.”
Hernan blows her off. “Not now.”
Prison grounds: Luis asks the prison director to assign him to work in the kitchen. Louis tells him that before he became a lawyer, he wanted to be a chef. Finally, he says something that makes sense—that the kitchen is the farthest away from Apolinar and his gang. The director says that he’ll think about it.
Altamirano mansion: Camila takes a bubble bath in a big freestanding tub, while Fernanda scrubs off the layers of dirt with a long-handled brush. Fer asks why didn’t Camila ever look for her or ask her for help. Camila says that she was too embarrassed. Fer tells her that Don Fernando has died, and Camila cries.
Prison: Luis is thinking, “Everything is carefully planned. All I need to go is get into the kitchen and it’ll be easy.” Leopoldo shows up and taunts Luis, but Luis retorts that he’s getting out, while Leopoldo is going to spend the rest of his life rotting behind four walls.
Hair salon: We see snippets of Camila’s two-toned hair falling to the salon floor, and soon Camila is looking like her old self.
Gomez-Ruiz patio: Marissa meets with Lupe and Carlos. There’s big news—she’s returning to work at the bank. Ordonez arrives with more good news. The bank is turning around thanks to the infusion of money from Carlos and Marissa’s personal account.
Pedro’s casita: Pedro and Amelia are planning their wedding. Amelia wonders if they’re too old for all of the hoopla. Pedro replies, “Too old for what? To love each other? To declare our love before God, before our family, friends, and guests? No! When there’s love, age doesn’t matter.” Pedro wants to get married in a civil ceremony, in a church, and in a tarasca (indigenous ceremony). (Like Bachelor in Paradise, I suppose.)
Outdoor café: Maribel joins Javier. She’s invited him this time. She tells him that she feels cured and ready to see her children.
Altamirano mansion: There’s a small “welcome home” party for Camila. Mariana, the party-pooper, is protesting that her house is going to smell of poverty. Camila apologizes to those she’s hurt—Carlos, Pedro, Amelia, Fernando, and Hernán—and asks for forgiveness. Everyone hugs her.
Party at Pedro’s casita: Marissa asks Pedro not to call her “Señora Marissa” anymore, just “Marissa.” She tells Amelia that their lives have been united by the damage that Luis has done, but they are now united by their children and grandchildren. There’s a surprise guest—Adelina. She says that she’s learned how to eat properly and announces that she’s going to study nutrition. She tells Pedro how grateful she is to him and that her best therapy was his friendship.
Prison grounds: Luis is visited by his former admin assistant, Alicia. She tells him that she’s there for him in good times and in bad. Luis says that she’s his connection with the outside world and that he’s not going to allow Carlos to marry Fernanda. Alicia asks if Luis has a plan to stop the wedding. He says that he’s going to work from the inside to separate them.
Javier’s condo: Javier and the other doctor are planning to have breakfast. “Aren’t you glad that I invited you and Malquerida?” Javier asks. Meanwhile Maribel and Malquerida are at an open market. The police see Malque and take chase. When M&M arrive at the condo, Javier overhears Maribel asking Malque why the police (la tira) were chasing her. He demands to know what’s going on. Malque blabbers nonsense and Javier says, “We’ll talk about this when you calm down; your attitude isn’t normal.”
Elsewhere, Fernanda and her posse of future bridesmaids (Camila, Lucero, and Adelina) are enjoying the day and shopping for sunglasses.
Pedro’s greenhouse: Marissa and Pedro are telling each other how much their friendship means. She’s says that Pedro is the richest and bravest man that she has ever know. (She’s referring to the riches of the heart here. We could add a few more adjectives—hotheaded, unthinking, selfish.) Marissa says that Ignacio, Carlos, and Pedro are the most important men in her life. Pedro thinks that she will have a love relationship again. He tells her that love can arrive late in life, just look at him.
Ad agency: Isabela has a meeting to discuss casting her models in a commercial. She’s meeting with Teo, a handsome businessman who arrives late, but then cancels his other appointment to devote time to her. (If he only knew what the Patio knows about Issy.)
Outdoor café: The girls are remembering their past—Camila, life as runaway; Lucero, kidnapping by Diego; Fernanda, imprisonment; and Adelina, treatment in the psychiatric hospital. Adelina recalls how ugly she felt. Felipe is with the girls. He jokes, “You’re not ugly, I am.” (Could this be a future romance?) The girls promise to achieve all of their dreams.
From the shadows, Diego is watching, angry that Lucero could be so happy without him. “How could she toy with me? I’m never going to forgive her.” He glares at Lucero and silently threatens, “When we’re together again, you’ll see what I’m capable of.”
Diego still stalking Lucero & her friends: I'm afraid this will NOT end well!
I smile watching Pedro and Amelia. I can't help it. Love is in the air and contagious. I am enjoying it immensely.
Aleta, two of your astute observations were particularly poignant.
First: "She’s says that Pedro is the richest and bravest man that she has ever know. (She’s referring to the riches of the heart here. We could add a few more adjectives—hotheaded, unthinking, selfish").
Second: "Adelina. She says that she’s learned how to eat properly and announces that she’s going to study nutrition. She tells Pedro how grateful she is to him and that her best therapy was his friendship".
Pedro may have been a good husband but he was a controlling, manipulating (although loving) father but what really stood out last night was that he was an utter failure as a friend. Marissa was much too kind. When she fell ill, Pedro was not there for her. At all. His obsessive need to "shelter" his daughter and control her destiny was uppermost and exclusively in his mind.
What happened to the sweet and caring concern he had for Adelina? It vanished. Totally evaporated.
Much has been said about Amelia's selfishness. All too true. But I think the person who has been most self abosorbed is Pedro.
Ordonez' mere presence makes Marissa smile. Me too! Finally, a step father that is a decent human being for our Carlos. A real family.
I enjoyed seeing the four amigas shop and enjoy each other's company. If only they were not shadowed by the demon Diego.
Isa is still getting screen time so she must have some involvement in future events...
I don't remember. Did La Malquerida escape? If not, do we know why the police are looking for her?
I hope Maribel has given up on Jav. I don't know their age difference in real life but she appears to be old enough to be his mother. I can't say the same about Mal who seems just about right!
Aleta, thank you for the terrific summary.
Diana
"Like Bachelor in Paradise, I suppose."
Yeah, Adelina's back but forget you Felipe. Javier, Javier over here Javier.
Why did Amelia pick that dress? Maybe she's got a birdcage for a hat to go with.
Still wishing Camila would go to the judge, tell him what she done and get Fernanda's record expunged.
Diego is still at large and nobody seems concerned.
Marissa is definitely into Pedro, friends my butt. You snooze you lose Marissa.
Maribel mentioned her kids. Shock
I too have been afraid of what Pedro will wear to his wedding. Did anyone else notice that there is actual furniture in the storage shed (bumped up from tool shed now that there is furniture)? I went "Oh s**t! They have furniture"
I really am trying to care about the Pedro/Amelia relationship, but I can't. Their coochy cooing is irritating.
Super Oh and Marissa's interaction has been fun. Her blushing at pairing up with him has had me blushing as well. She looks so cute to me doing those scenes.
*OT* Sorry to throw this on the patio but I am scheduled to recap next week and I still plan to, but I wanted to put you guys on notice in the event that something needs to change. If any locals saw the news this morning about a body found in OC MD that was my husbands nephew. He had been missing since Sunday/Monday when the guys he went there with came back without him. We just got the confirmation right after that news hit this morning...so depending on the funeral/family events it may or may not interfere. I don't expect it to. FYI - I didn't know him well (only saw him once or twice as a teen) because he was my bro in laws first born before I came into the family with a woman that I've never met. However, it's still shocking and sad.
Anita, I don't believe I will have a problem next Thursday.
We'll worry about the recap for next week later. You take care of your family's priorities.
I KNEW Luis wasn't on the up and up. His little talk with Alicia and with himself makes it all clear. Does he really believe that getting Carlos out of the way permanently will send Fer running to him? I DOUBT it. She would be running to Pedro, Amelia, Blanca and Camila for solace--oh, and her violin. Luis would be the last person--maybe even after Isy.
Mariana, is likely to continue her deep-seated hatred of Fernanda for the $$$ until the final episode.
Yes, Isy will have to forgive me, too. I jumped the gun on her as well. She is indeed back and will probably cause more mischief, since she hasn't been terribly evil for a long time.
Diana, you always provide some new wisdom or insight. ITA with you that Pedro has been the most self-absorbed character. He offered his all when it was most convenient for him, but as soon as a new Fer-crisis appeared, he abandoned the friends who needed him and were depending on him. Maybe it's too much to ask of a 125 episode novela to show us everything Pedro did to make folks so grateful for his friendship, so let's take it with a grain or two (or a block) of salt and go with it.
LaMalq never did tell the group if she had left the prison on good behavior or escaped. She shut them all down by saying never mind now and digging into the celebratory food. On the Patio we assumed she wouldn't tell because she had escaped.
The first time she saw the popo, she reacted like she was fleeing from them. They probably took notice of her behavior, so the next time they saw her, they were alerted and gave chase. I'm glad she made it to the apt. without being caught. It'll be up to Javier and Marcos to intervene on her behalf, but escape is not taken lightly by the authorities. (Luis are you listening?)
Diego's presence worries me. Why can't they catch him? Everything he's been doing has been in plain sight. The detective should have someone shadowing Lucero.
Anita and Aleta, thanks for your recaps. Excellent, both of them. Boy, I'm going to miss this show and hovering on the edges of this wonderful group.
Fer needs to spend the first bit of her inheritance on a day spa for Pedro. Haircut, shave, the works. I have noticed that Amelia avoids his beard by ducking her head so all that scratchiness is above her hairline. Maybe I've missed it, but she never seems to cuddle his face, even after their smoochy little kisses. And then, listen to Nina, Pedro and buy some new clothes. Please.
The mixup.
The former schoolmates are sitting at a table outside. Fer says they are going to follow their dreams and be happy, because this life they have is the only one they'll get.j She also says they will be there for one another. Felipe returns from getting coffee or something and starts putting the moves on Camila. Diego looks on from his hiding place thinking creepy control freak stuff like 'how can you be happy without me?' He thinks that when they are together again she will see what he is capable of.
Carlos and Igy are sitting outside at the estate and Igy wants to know who is going to be in charge at the bank. Carlos gets in some digs about how his wedding planning is going to take till the end of the world. He says they are waiting until after Pedro and Amelia are married so they can shine by themselves. Then he tells Igy that he wants him to run the bank. He likes that Igy and his mom will be working closely together.
Olivia is finishing setting the table when Diego comes in. She tells him she has prepared a delicious meal for him. He pushes her out of the way, sits down and takes a bite of food. "This is horrible," he says. (Wait till you taste the chow in prison, Diego.) She protests that she has stuck by him faithfully, then it dawns on her that this is about Lucero. To really earn points, he tells her "Lucero is special," and stomps out.
Isy is in Teo's office showing him some pictures of her girls. He flips through them, but says he can't really get a feeling for them from pictures alone. He would like to see them in action. He is looking for a very certain look. She agrees to set something up for him. He tells her she is even more beautiful than he had been lead to believe.
Isy is at her school telling her girls about the upcoming competition when Malquerida walks in eating something. This idea of a competition excites her, but everyone looks at her like she has cooties.
Fer walks into her hacienda arm in arm with Blanca. Blanca wishes she would come more often. Mariana slithers inane says, "More often?" Blanca and Fer take a few shots at Mariana, reminding her that this is FER's house. Fer says that Mariana can stay here, but Mariana says she would rather die than live with Fer. Amelia walks in and they get ready to go look at wedding dresses, which Mariana makes fun of
Back at Isy's school, Isy tells Malquerida that in no way is she going to be part of the audition because she is ugly and common. "Just keep eating," Isy tells her, which earns her a sneer from Malquerida.
Fer tells her mom not to pay any attention to Mariana. Amelia walks over to her and says she is happy. Mariana wants to know when the wedding is. "Sooner than you think," Amelia says over her shoulder as the shoppers walk out. Blanca makes a "my lips are sealed" gesture, then walks off.
David
It is "days later" and Lupe, Fer and Blanca are getting Amelia all dolled up for her wedding day. Blanca remembers some sentimental things from Amelia's past and they start getting misty eyed, which Lupe puts a stop to lest it ruin the make-up application. Amelia says she is glad to declare her love for Pedro, and they all tell her how great a guy Pedro is. They agree that nothing could possibly ruin this day, while an ominous drum sounds, and we see Mariana eavesdropping by the partially opened door. Mariana thinks, "That's what you think. You don't know what I have prepared."
We are outside the church where pretty girls are running around in brightly colored gowns, and Pedro is about to have a fit waiting for Amelia to show up. Carlos and others calm him down. Marissa and Igy arrive, and Marissa and Pedro embrace and share a friendship moment. The dress code for Pedro has improved considerably for Pedro. Maybe he just couldn't find his jeans, so was forced to rent a tux. Marissa tells Pedro that she's glad to see him so happy.
Back at the hacienda, I guess they still haven't told Mariana that the wedding is today, but they do now, and Amelia says she really wants her to come. Mariana gives them some typical Mariana crap and says she's not going. She tells Amelia to go, go be poor and happy with your gardener. The wedding girls leave, and Mariana calls for Carmela, and finds that she is completely alone; everyone else has gone to the wedding.
The car carrying Amelia arrives an Sor Risa alerts the crowd. Pedro is jumping around and looks like hi's about to have a carotid blowout, but Marissa takes him in hand and shoos him into the church. In the rear of the church, Blanca, who is walking Amelia down the isle, gives her a chance to change her mind. Amelia says no, since her father isn't here I want you to do it because you have been like a mother to me.
Fer plays the Wedding March on her violin as Blanca and Amelia walk down the isle, and Pedro looks like he's trying to find a bush to hide behinds. Blanca tells Pedro to love and take care of her girl, which Pedro promises he will do. Blanca thinks of don Fer and thought bubbles to him that his daughter is now in the best hands.
Isy is at her school with her girls lined up in front of her and tells them what an important day this is for them. She introduces them to Teo Saldivar, one of the most important publicity men in the country.
David
Still at Isy's school, Teo tells the girls lined up before him that he is looking for a very special look, and whoever wins will be the most important image for a very important company.
In the church, Pedro and Amelia are finally on the kneelers (that's what we called them, but I think there is a more elegant name) and various people in the crowd think back about this union. For some reason, Fer remembers some pretty bad times. Blanca is full of hope. Blanca is sure that don Fer is here and is very proud to see his daughter so happy and being married before God. Marissa thinks how much Pedro deserves this happiness, and Igy gently caresses her hand. She looks at him half surprised, half startled by his gesture, but not the least bit displeased.
There are a lot of shots of people in the church smiling at each other. Looked like filler to me.
At Isy's school where the lithe ladies are strutting their stuff, Teo has an inscrutable look on his face. Although the girls are doing what Isy taught them, he's like, "Hey, I ordered a coney dog, and you gave me a hot dog with mustard."
Back at the iglesia, Pedro and Amelia are exchanging vows. She has her's all written out. He doesn't, and stumbles through a homely but sincere litany of promises to her, and he compares her to the most beautiful flower in his garden. He promises to take care of her while he is living, and to search for her in the next life and have a love that will last forever.
Fer and Pedro's work buddy put the lasso/rosary around Pedro and Amelia. The priest then addressed the gathering and says, "If anyone objects to this union, let him speak now or forever hold his peace," and at that moment Mariana walks across the back of the church and down the isle wearing a white gown. At that moment, Hernan, seeing the potential for chaos, rises up out of his pew, grabs his wife's arm and tells her to sit down and shut the hell up. He asks her why she came dressed in white. Camila, behind them, is dropping her head, looking like she wished she were sleeping under newspapers and starving again.
Paco brings the rings, which they exchange with more promises, and then Pedro is over the moon with joy, and the church erupts in joyous applause. I am hoping the reception is short, because restraint doesn't seem to be on the menu tonight.
David
Back at Isy's school, the girls continue doing the strutting that Isy taught them, and Isy congratulates herself on what a success this will be for her.
In the church yard, everyone is cheering, throwing rice and hugging. Then Mariana comes up to greet the couple. She shakes hands with her sister an gives a queenly wave to her new brother-in-law, wearing her white gown that is several orders of magnitude whiter than the bride's. (I tried to step out of character here and actually notice stuff about clothes for you ladies.)
More group hugs, and Paco worms his way into the group.
At Isy's school, Teo is saying that everything was very nice, "pero...."
"Pero?," says Isy.
Just then Malquerida shows up. Isy spins around to stare her down, and if looks could kill, both Malquerida and the plant behind her would be dead,- BUT Teo has that coney dog look in his eye.
Luis is having or faking some kind of health situation. My money is on faking. He is approached by Apolinar who flicks his hand to make the armed guard go away. Somehow or the other, Apolinar does not stick Luis with a shiv, but rather, he winds up in the infirmary where the doc, probably making his house payments from such situations, informs the warden the Luis has a serious stomach infection and will have to be transported to a real hospital. Uh, oh.
Isa is trying to turn Teo away from Malquerida, but he informs her that this model is the best prepared person that she has. Isa is like, "Que?"
We end with the reception which prominently shows Carlos and Fer dancing in eve more intimate poses.
FIN
David
You will all be in my thoughts and prayers.
Diana
Kendra, what a sad story about your nephew. Although you did not know him well. this must be a horrible ordeal for your family.
David
"This is horrible," he says. (Wait till you taste the chow in prison, Diego)", " Camila, behind them, is dropping her head, looking like she wished she were sleeping under newspapers and starving again" and "wearing her white gown that is several orders of magnitude whiter than the bride's. (wow David, I am impressed!!)" were my favorites among many.
It was interesting that during the wedding, the couple remembered long ago and only recently happy memories. Fer recalling some of Amelia's low lights was sad but fitting. Amelia may be able to create (hopefully many) future happy memories for her daughter but she cannot erase the many painful ones etched in Fernanda's heart.
I am glad the wedding went off without a hitch. Favorite moments? Ignacio taking Marissa's hand. It was so nice seeing her back to her former self, happy and full of life. The promise of new beginnings...Another was Blanca walking Amelia down the aisle. What a lovely touch. I also have to mention Paco. The dear little man was everywhere, wearing a beaming smile. I just love that kid.
"Somehow or the other, Apolinar does not stick Luis with a shiv". Yes, unfortunately so. Now, is Luis faking it? He seemed genuinely ill to me but...
Now I love Malq and am interested to see how Teo uses this savvy spitfire in his ad campaign. If Malq is running from the law, I might suggest hiding in plain sight is not the best idea! :)
Loving this show.
Thank you again David! This was great.
Diana
Kendra, my condolences to you and your family. That is tragic news and I'm so sorry.
I love wedding episodes on any soap and this one didn't disappoint, between Mariana showing up in white, Fer actually letting her hair down, for real and on the dance floor, all the pretty dresses, and, thankfully, Pedro actually donned a suit! Emilia, you have probably nailed the reason why the kissing with Pedro and Amelia is so awkward and I'm not sure I'm looking forward to getting to recap the wedding night. ;)
I do not like creepy predators at all so I am really worried about what Diego is going to do.
Never say die Luis has to be totally faking here.
I am positive that Malq is going to turn out to be Teo's coney dog for fashion, but I actually do sense sparks between him and Isy, not to mention that forgiveness if you move on to better things (like focusing on your business instead of the guy who has repeatedly told you nope) theme popping up again.
"The dress code for Pedro has improved considerably for Pedro. Maybe he just couldn't find his jeans" - Yes, I think that's probably true lol.
I will admit when Amelia stepped out of the car, she looked beautiful in that moment. It went away (for me) but she did right then.
Adelina stole the show for me last night. She looked radiant! I was in awe of her entire look from makeup to sheer glowing.
I've been to a Catholic wedding, but I don't really get the problem with Mariana wearing white - but I guess it's not good. I know most people won't wear white to a wedding, but some weddings (I've attended at least one) wear they ask you to wear all white. I actually thought Mariana looked really nice, but she usually wears her dresses really well and they are really pretty (just change them damn shoes)
Of course Teo was going to choose Malquerida - we saw that coming. Is it to send her back to prison? or some commercial for wart cream?
Fer needs to stop dancing. Please for rhythm's sake.
I had a feeling that Olivia was going to be a clingy one especially after the run in with Lucero's mom.
Thanks Nina, Diana, Emilia, and David. It really is a horrible situation with more bizarre things surrounding it. Finally spoke to my brother in law and got more details, just crazy.
Regarding Diego dissing Olivia because he is obsessed with Lucero, why doesn't she get that he is a self absorbed, dangerous worm?
"Fer recalling some of Amelia's low lights was sad but fitting." It was indeed. That is the takeaway theme of her maturing years, isn't it? For better or for worse, this is the basis from which she must approach adulthood. But, in her "Unsinkable Molly Brown" way, she sees the future as bright!
I am glad the wedding went off without a hitch too, but had it not been for Hernan, I think there might have been a kerfuffle.
Thanks again, Diana.
David
1. Where in the heck was the baby? I kept asking and he never appeared. All the babysitters were at the wedding - as i started the list it reminded me that i dont remember seeing Clarita. If she was there then all of them were there so who had him...has she embraced her fortune and hired a nanny?
2. I kind of wanted Mariana to do something. Wearing white was a dud. I couldn't think of what she could do or say to ruin it but stir it up...her villianess has been watered down.
3. Don't think that first round on the wedding night is going to last past 5 seconds. That hose has got to be backed up and ready to blow. Probably naked Amelia will do it lol...sorry if that was crude.
Again, Where was the baby? I wanted to see him.
"I do not like creepy predators at all so I am really worried about what Diego is going to do."
You know, dy, when I was growing up, discipline standards were very high. I went to Catholic grade school where our nuns, the Sisters of Providence, would smack you back into order if you strayed. Later, in high school, our Christian Brothers would slug you with a closed fist if they felt the situation deserved it. And you would not even think of going home and complaining about how you had been treated at school, because there would be hell to pay from your parents for pissing off the nuns/brothers. My point is that in that time, we did not have the social problems that exist today, or at least not on the scale that we currently see. I wonder if Diego had gotten his butt kicked when he displayed inappropriate behavior as a child, would he have developed differently?
Like you, I hate creepy, stalking guys.
David
Mariana's white wedding dress entrance did not live up to that ominous music and Mariana sneering behind the door about what she has prepared to ruin Amelia's wedding. There weren't too many folks at the wedding to shock in the first place, but was glad Hermy intercepted her. It didn't seem to trouble Amelia for very long and she had wanted Mariana to be at her wedding--they are sisters, after all. Nature vs. nurture anyone? Or is this just a telenovela....
Now--I have to go back and finish the recap and comments before I step on some other toes.
"Don't think that first round on the wedding night is going to last 5 seconds. That hose has got to be backed up and ready to blow. Probably naked Amelia will do it."
Well, I didn't think that was crude, merely funny and insightful. I mean, everyone here has "been there and done that" so we have all been wondering how in the hell Pedro tended to his sexual equilibrium all these years.
I had not even thought about what happened to the baby! It would have been very nice to see him toddling around the wedding and the reception.
David
I didn't think Amelia's dress was all that pretty; I didn't like the shoulder ruffle, and I think it showed too much cleavage for church. I have a theory that there will be a boda interruptus if the dress isn't pretty enough, and I was sure that Mariana was going to be the one to interrupt it. But after Pedro came up with such beautiful words for his vows, I knew it would be on.
Did anyone else notice Javier dancing with Maribel in the reception scene? He's another actor who's had a few dance lessons. It looked like they were dancing a cumbia.
I wonder what happened after Javier confronted Malquerida. I hope they're not chopping important stuff out of the episodes at this late date. If anything gets chopped, it should be those darn flashbacks.
The Isy thing has me puzzled. I'm considering that Telerisa paid her a good chunk of change for this role and they are holding her to working until they get their money's worth. I can't recall the actor's name, but the publicity agent was Beba's (Mariana Karr) son in Amorcito Corazon and was quite a nuisance. But even then, he was a suave, silver-haired fox.
Yes, Steve, it is more than obvious that Luis is planning to escape from prison. We haven't seen the last of him. Will he get out in time to kidnap Carlos before the wedding?
Adeline did quite well with her PSA on anorexia and bullemia and how she began to turn her life around (Although she still looked pretty skinny to me, she was no longer abusing her body.)
I'll be putting up a new page a little later, but no prelims, just the facts. My family is back under my roof. DIL is here to help my grandson & girlfriend move out of their very nice, but expensive apartment. Then, she goes home while I have the young'uns for awhile.
She should have borrowed that dress from Mariana.
Amelia's dress wasn't my taste but I thought she looked lovely and I really liked the veil.
Kendra, maybe she should have borrowed Maiana's dress! :)
Anita, enjoy your time with your family!
Diana
I also wondered who was looking after the baby.
Iron skillet to Diego's noggin works for me!
"Hey, I ordered a coney dog, and you gave me a hot dog with mustard."
Kendra sorry to hear of the tragedy. Life is amazing yet we all hang by a thread.
Despite hating Pedro lots and not being impressed with anything Amelia they were cute being cutesy. Can't believe I said that, bah.
There's sometin bout Diego I guess. Olivia drank the koolaid.
So happpy about pedro's choice of wardrobe. Of course a seventies leisure suit would have been better than jeans and the T-shirt. Meaning thank the wardrobe gods for not gracing us with formalwear by levi. I hope they burned those jeans and ratty t-shirt.
Lucy should really be careful not to be alone anywhere, cuz creepy professor could snatch her up. They're not very thoughtful about safety. They haven't caught him and shes just walkin around hunky dory, no worries. Moma need to hire a bodyguard to shadow her. But yet again nobody's thinkin. And where is baby pedrito? He should have been front and center at grandma and grandpa's wedding, all dressed up in his cute little wedding suit. But hes a know show.
Looks like the wedding night was super blissful. She could get pregnant. It could happen.
If malq stays out of prison she could be fashionably famous. If.
Good recap David.
