General and Sin Senos:

Hope Telemundo turns captions back on soon! -- Sin Senos has had many shocking twists, and since I was heartbroken by Catalina's suicide in the first series, I googled the real story and learned that writer Gustavo Bolivar gave her a terrible end just to scare off other potential victims. He based her character on at least one woman, possibly more, and an annonymous commenter claimed to know the real Catalina, a narco call girl whose mother stole her poor boyfriend. She was still alive, unhappily living with a new narco, but had ratted out her betraying narco sugar daddy and pregnant madam. While I don't know Spanish, the Latin root words of the Spanish capitulos on Telemundo's website have helped somewhat. The first series left dangling questions about what happened to besotted lovable Pelambre, her well-meaning but boyfriend-stealing mother, and hateful Marcial and Yesica.

Many of those questions were answered in the new series, but were lost without captioning! The opening re-staging of Catalina's arranged suicide by trickery suggested that her blood that spilled into Bogota's water sewers may have been drunk downstream by her pregnant mother, who then renamed her second daughter Catalina. Is Catalina II the reincarnation of Catalina I? -- Thursday's episode suggested that Yesica feared that Catalina I was STILL ALIVE! We shall see! I hope so!

Tormenta de Pasiones

I am watching, and thoroughly enjoying, this Turkish novela solely on the Telemundo app, but it seems Telemundo is uploading the chapters out of order, when it uploads them at all. For example, when Cemele stabbed Carolin at the end of chapter 3, they skipped a chapter or bolum
that showed Carolin engineering sent up the river and just showed chapter 5 where she's already on prison. The next chapter they uploaded shows Carolin moving into the family home, without showing the lead up to the argument that provoked the father doing such a despicable thing. I feel like I missed a lot since Telemundo has fritzed the plot but have no clue where to go to get the full chapters. This novela is worth a watch and is as good, if not better, than Fatmagul.

Silvana
OMG! I am soooo sick of Margarita pawing and kissing Jorge every time they're alone together. She's determined to get him into bed and I'll be so disappointed in him if he caves. And if they do, you know in true telenovela fashion that she'll probably end up pregnant.

SILVANA SIN LANA – LUNES – Parte 1 de 2

We again see Chivis tells Antonio José to get out of her car and not to approach her or her daughters until he resolves things.

Vicente doesn’t do what I’d like him to do – stay away from María José after she told him he wasn’t husband material for her. He’s hurt, though. He tells her everyone has the right to think the way they want. He gets in a dig of his own, saying this cleared things up for him; he’d never marry her! This gets under her skin. He tells her commitments are not for him. But he says that, until she marries some rich guy, well they can enjoy each other. They begin kissing.

Dominique is watching a telenovela in his room with Eugenio Siller when Poncho interrupts him. Dominique tells Poncho that what he said to the priest about his feelings for Stella was lovely. However, Dominique has to tell him that the only time Stella’s face shone was when she looked at Manuel.

Stella has given Manuel a ride home from the “pre-nuptial” meeting with Padre Sánchez. She babbles on about how brave Manuel is being seeing the love of his life marrying someone else [!]. She tells him she wants a proper goodbye. He tries to kiss her on the cheek, but she latches onto his mouth. Of course, Chivis comes home from work just then and sees this. She’s not happy about it either.

Manuel jumps out of Stella’s car and tries to explain to Chivis that he didn’t kiss Stella. She tells him she’s had a horrible day at work and goes inside. Seeing how grouchy Chivis is, Stella makes a crack about his having traded HER for this. He gets angry with Stella and, once again, calls her crazy.

Chivis goes inside and catches Vicente and MJ kissing. She tells them they’re adults and can do what they like, then rushes upstairs. MJ says something’s wrong if her mother isn’t chewing her out for kissing Vicente.

Stella is crowing about the passionate kiss with Dominique and Poncho, hurting Poncho in the process. Poncho says that Manuel is disloyal to his friend. Stella tells him it was no big deal because SHE kissed Manuel and he didn’t even kiss her back.

Silvana is remembering what AJ said to her when Manuel calls her name from his balcony outside. When she comes out he swears that Stella threw herself at him. Chivis says it’s none of her business, but Viewerville can see that she’s jealous.

The next day in the Fish Market office Manuel is still trying to convince Silvana that Stella was the one who kissed him. He senses something else and asks her what’s wrong. She tells him she spoke face to face with AJ. She says it was horrible seeing him beside her and feeling like he was a stranger. She is afraid the cops will see them together and she’ll be implicated. She asks Manuel to help her.

SILVANA SIN LANA – LUNES – Parte 2 de 2

We see Majo hard at work at the Fish Market [not]. She’s actually staring at her cell phone. Stella bounds up, saying she wants Majo to come to her wedding. She hints that MJ’s mother may need her by her side that day. [She thinks Manuel will do a reprise of The Graduate and whisk her away from the church. Of course she wants Chivis to be there for this!]

Manuel advises Silvana not to tell the family about seeing AJ. When she tells him how upset this business has her, he says he’s around to help her. She should lean on him. He kisses her forehead and hugs her. As always, they are interrupted. Poncho bursts in.

Trini is working at the bakery again. She is asking Juanito to ask his uncle the police detective to find out what’s going on with AJ’s case. She has her back to the door and says that the detectives who came wore cheap suits and weren’t very professional. Whoops, they have just come in. Trini faints, of course.

When she comes to, she asks the cops if maybe they gave her mouth-to-mouth to bring her around. One of them scoffs and says this doesn’t work when someone faints. Trini calls Don Benito descarado and throws water in his face. She goes on and on about how respectable she is, saying she’s a high-class widow. Detective: “Wait! Didn’t you say you are married to the baker?”

Stella approaches Chivis near the outdoor statue of the virgin. She goes on and on about how happy she is. She shows Chivis some dresses in a catalog. Chivis gets in a good one, pointing out a great dress but, sadly, Stella is too short to wear it!

Poncho is giving Manuel a piece of his mind for betrayal. Manuel doesn’t understand and asks Poncho if he ate a mejillón podrido (a bad mussel). Poncho tells him that ¡Ayer me pedaleaste mi bici! [ I’ve heard this rather sexist line before about some man pedaling another man’s bicycle - meaning having “something” to do with the other man’s woman.] Manuel isn’t playing this game any more. He tells Poncho that Stella kissed HIM. And that Poncho needs to learn to control his future wife. He, Manuel, is a loyal friend.

MJ comes home complaining about working around the odor of fish.

Trini asks Silvana if she knows anything more about AJ’s whereabouts. Silvana follows Manuel’s advice and doesn’t say she’s seen him.

Stella is trying on her wedding dress with, I think, one of Dominique’s gay friends and Dom himself. Poncho starts down the stairs, and the two gay guys shriek that he shouldn’t see the dress. Stella says it doesn’t matter if Poncho sees her. But when Manuel sees her in this dress, he’ll die of love.

We get another annoying scene with Margarita pushing herself at Jorge. She wants to go to the wedding as a couple. He always just gives in. She sort of backs him into the closet in his bedroom.

Majo tells Angie she’s going to the wedding with Andrés! [Wonder if she’s told HIM.] When Angie erupts, she tells her that she has to have her strategies. She has to pulls something off to get out of this pigsty and out of poverty.

Silvana

Another terrific recap, novelera! Many thanks! And special thanks for including the Spanish in the scene between Manuel and Poncho.

How in the world can Stella go into ecstasy about the supposedly passionate kiss she had with Manuel, when (as she admits) he didn't even kiss her back? If the writers have intended that Stella drive us up the wall, they've succeeded, at least with me. At first I thought she was just frivolous and silly, but I now see her as cruelly insensitive and totalmente loca. I've been assuming that she and Poncho would marry, but now I'm hoping that doesn't happen. He's a lightweight, but a good-hearted lightweight. He doesn't deserve to be married to a selfish, self-centered perra like Stella.

So Majo thinks she's going to the wedding with Andrés? Hmmm, she clearly hasn't asked/told him, since he's already agreed to go with Lucha.

Trini is digging herself into a hole with all her lies to the detectives. And since Don Benito is backing her up, he too may wind up in deep doo-doo. Though probably not for long in this lighthearted comedy.

Silvana

novelera - Thank you for the recap!

"¡Ayer me pedaleaste mi bici!" You rode MY bike yesterday! Um, yeah, I get it. Ack.

"Majo tells Angie she’s going to the wedding with Andrés! [Wonder if she’s told HIM.]"
LOL and probably not.

Silvana

Thanks for the recap, novelera! It's always nice to know which annoying scenes with Stella and Margarita to skip. I really cannot stand those two.

SILVANA

Same here re Margarita and Stella. Jorge's wimpy passivity is very unattractive IMO

Silvana. Excellent recap and perceptive comments as usual, novelera! Liked "Viewerville can see that she's jealous" and your "reprise of The Graduate" remark. I thought the scene of Dominique watching a telenovela and commenting on it very meta! Could MJ be misbehaving for attention? (bless her little narcissistic heart). Her reaction to Chivis' not reprimanding her for kissing Vicente may be revealing. At least she seems to genuinely love and worry about her mother. I was surprised that Stella was finally honest about her kiss with Manuel, and i was very surprised that MJ was even back at the fish market. And I repeat: Shouldn't Antonio José have turned himself in by now?

Silvana

Has Antonio Jose's alleged crime ever been fully revealed? I assume it is some kind of financial scheme, but it may be something else.

SILVANA

Gobluefan, they haven’t been specific about his crime. And there have been some anomalies in the explanations. For one thing, I thought the Feds seized the house and its contents. But later I sort of remember Antonio José saying something about selling the contents to “benefit” the family. But, considering that he’s staying in a luxury condo, it may have been to benefit AJ. Or maybe I misunderstood what he said. I know he said something about selling things.

I get the impression it could be sort of a Ponzi scheme, like Madoff.

He told Skeezy Lawyer Rafa he wanted to turn himself in and then be released on bail, as I remember it. He probably wants to be able to move back in with his family, which he could do while on bail. Although why he thinks Rafa could get him bail when he’s already fled the country baffles me. I suppose they’d seize his passport. Anyway, this is a telenovela and anything can happen. SpanProf, I don’t know why it’s taking so long for him to turn himself in, except that it suits the writers to have him skulking around. If his plan works, then Chivis would be in the position of either having to live under the same roof so her children would have their father again or refusing to do so and alienating Lupita and MJ.

Silvava-Good and funny recap. It is cruel the way she treats that lightweight guy, he does not deserve to be treated that way by her, she is so stupid and selfish. And pushy. I don't know why manuel puts up with her.
"Stella says it doesn't matter if Pancho sees her in the dress, but when manuel see's her in this dress he is going to" die of love".
He gonna die of something, but it wont be love. They have committed a wedding dress
Homicide. They really uglied that dress up. It
Matches stella' s personality. Perfectly. I to
Would love to know what silvana's hubby did. Probably a Ponzi scheme. Either that or he was setup royally. In any case, silvy has fallen for Manuel. This is a good tn. I hop between this one and "the color of passion".
Brfore that It was "Destiny". They're good. Ok, thanks again Novelera.

Silvana

novelera, AJ sold their other properties (like the house in Acapulco that Chivis mentioned) before he took off, so I think that's how he had money to spend on that hotel.

SILVANA SIN LANA - MARTES - Parte 1 de 3

Well, the captions are still missing. I'm hoping people with captions or better Spanish will add to and/or correct this recap.

As the episode opens, Manuel's family is sitting at the dinner table talking about the upcoming wedding of Poncho and Stella. Lucha says that Stella had been very much in love with Manuel, but it didn't take her long to find a new novio. Lucha also says that she'll be going to the wedding with Andrés.

No sooner does Lucha says this than the scene changes to Majo calling Andrés to invite him to go to the wedding with her. Andrés thanks her but says he can't go with two people at the same time, and he's already going with Lucha. Majo is very disappointed. But, as Viewerville could have predicted, as soon as she hangs up, she calls Vicente and invites him.

Angie is working at the salsadromo. Benji tells her that tonight there will be a private party, a bachelor party for Poncho. Angie is surprised. Benji is clearly interested in Angie. He asks her whether she has something on with Jorge. Angie said she did, but no longer. A few minutes later, Jorge turns up at the bachelor party. He and Angie talk, and he tells her that he'll probably go to the wedding with Margarite, and that they're trying to get back together. Jorge and Angie continue to talk for several minutes, each pretending that they're not interested in each other. Then Benji walks by, and, with Jorge looking on, Angie invites Benji to go with her to the wedding.

I found the bachelor party somewhat confusing. Manuel offers a toast to Poncho, Vicente orders drinks for everyone, and Poncho seems quite happy and moved. But then comes the part I'm not sure about. Poncho seemed to be expecting one or more women to come to flirt (or whatever) with him. But out comes someone in what seems to be a chicken costume, and it's pretty clear from the start that the person inside the costume is a man, not a woman. Indeed, it was immediately clear to me and probably to all of Viewerville that the person is Dominique. Poncho, though, seems to think this is a woman. He looks delighted when the chicken dances somewhat erotically. His expression changes, though, when the chicken sits in his lap, probably because it was becoming evident that this is no woman. And sure enough, while sitting in Poncho's lap, Dominique removes his chicken mask. I suppose it's possible to read all kinds of meaning into the scene, but I think I'll stay with its being pure farce.

The next scene after the bachelor party is marked "one week later." It's The Day of the Wedding. Vincente comes in a rather nice suit to pick up Majo, who is wearing a lovely dress. A few minutes later, there's another knock at the door. Trini opens it to find a young man who she assumes is a door-to-door salesman. She tells him they're not interested and closes the door in his face. Angie comes rushing to the door, re-opens it, and apologetically greets Benji.

Manuel is at Stella's. It's apparently his job to escort her to the church and manage the humongous train of her wedding gown. She comes down the stairs in the gown. "How do I look?" she asks. "Good," says Manuel. "Do I look guapa?" she prompts. "Yes," says the not exactly effusive Manuel. "See what you lost?" she tells him. She keeps trying unsuccessfully to get close to him, and tries too to get him to say what she wants to hear. Finally, Manuel takes her hand and tells her "There's something I have to tell you." Expectant Pause. "I hope you'll be very happy with Poncho." The air goes out of Stella's balloon.

SILVANA SIN LANA - MARTES - Parte 2 de 3

The two couples--Majo with Vicente, Angie with Benji--arrive at the church. They suddenly stop when they spot Lucha with Andrés and Margarita with Jorge. After some awkward moments, all four couples enter the church.

Dominique and Poncho, both dressed in tuxedos, stand outside the church greeting the guests. Poncho is very nervous because Stella hasn't yet arrived. Dominique assures him that it's the tradition for the bride to arrive late. It happens all the time in the movies.

Stella and Manuel are in the back seat of a chauffeur-driven car that's taking them to the church. Stella keeps nagging Manuel about how he feels, and how he can stop the wedding when the priest asks whether anyone knows of a reason for the wedding not to take place. Manuel can say "I do. Stella, por favor, I love you." An annoyed Manuel tells her to "have a little respect for Poncho and for me."

Inside the church, people are acting quite predictably. Trini is calling the church and the guests common (ordinario), while Majo criticizes Lucha's dress.

The car carrying Manuel and Stella finally arrives. Poncho is ecstatic. Finally, Manuel and Stella enter the church. Juanito puts on a record that plays the wedding march. Trini observes scornfully to Chivis that there's no singer and no organ.

Padre Sanchez asks everyone to have peace. I have no idea whether this is a normal part of some wedding ceremonies, but each person turns to the people next to them and wishes them peace. Except when Angie and Jorge reach out to each other, Margarita breaks them apart.

Finally, the priest gets to the wedding vows. Poncho readily says "I accept." When the priest asks Stella, she turns and looks expectantly at Manuel. There's then a several-minute break for commercials. After the commercials, the priest asks Stella again. She again turns to Manuel and asks him to prevent the wedding (impedir la boda). She says that she doesn't want to marry Poncho, she wants to marry Manuel. She then runs from the church. Dominique runs after her, yelling, a la Marlon Brando, "Stella!" A devastated Poncho cries and collapses in Manuel's arms.

The rest of the episode shows people talking about the wedding, interspersed with scenes of Stella running away with Dominique in pursuit. For example, we see Silvana's family back home. Majo explains to Lupita that Stella didn't love Poncho, she loves Manuel, but Manuel loves someone else (Majo looks at Chivis as she says this). Lupita recognizes that this is just like the movies. We then see Stella running. She almost gets run over by a red car that stops just in time. The driver tells Stella, "Don't run away, marry me." She keeps running.

Manuel assures Poncho that he (Manuel) doesn't love Stella. To Manuel's surprise, Poncho insists that he (Poncho) loves Stella. Manuel assumed that Poncho was in on the farce. Poncho admits that he knew it was a farce, but he nonetheless hoped that Stella would marry him. Manuel asks Poncho whether Stella knew he was in love with her. No, says Poncho. The scene then switches to Stella, who has now taken off her high-heeled shoes and is running in her wedding gown on the beach. A somewhat tired-looking Dominique is still in pursuit.

SILVANA SIN LANA - MARTES - Parte 3 de 3

Andrés and Lucha talk about his confused feelings for Majo. He asks Lucha, "If I go back to Majo, please don't be angry with me. I don't want to lose our friendship." [Arrgh] He tells Lucha that he has tried to put himself in Majo's shoes: in one day, she lost her father, she lost her house, she changed her life, and she had problems at the university. Lucha tells Andrés that Majo is no longer at the university, she's working with her mother at the fish market. The scene shifts again to marathon runner Stella. This time, she causes two cars to crash into each other, whereupon she climbs over the smashed-up cars and keeps running.

Benji asks Angie about her feelings for Jorge. At first, it looks as if she and Benji may not be getting along all that well, but it soon becomes evident that they're teasing each other, and I think Angie agrees to go with Benji to the movies. At Don Benito's, Margarita goes on and on about how happy she is for Angie, she's found another novio, very goodlooking, and the chemistry between them seems very strong. It's not clear to me why Margarita is saying this. It may be that she's trying to tell Jorge that there's no point in his continuing to think about Angie, but her words could just as easily arouse his jealousy and make him more eager to go after Angie. Anyway, Don Benito and Trini are of course also present, and Don Benito asks Trini whether she's ever thought about marrying again. The food drops from Trini's fork.

The episode ends with Stella having run to a bridge. She looks over the side of the railing, and Dominique pleads with her not to do anything foolish. (I could be way off, but I think that among the arguments Dominique offers for her not jumping may be that she has just had her teeth done, and it cost a fortune, so she shouldn't throw all that away!) She slumps down on the bridge, and talks about how Manuel was supposed to come for her, but he didn't. Dominique sits down next to her and puts his arm around her to comfort her.

Silvana

Juanita - Thank you for the recap! Even with CCs, you got all of it.

I wanted to throw something at Trini, on the TV screen, when she made that 'witchy' comment ''you can put a silk dress on a monkey but you've still got a monkey'' after Vicente arrived, so nicely dressed up for the wedding, in his sportcoat, etc. as if he's white trash or something. He looked really nice, too.

QTH? was that Big Bird dance about at Poncho's bachelor party??? QTH?

Stella's dress. Oh. My. Goodness. My eyes! I cannot unsee that thing! It looked like a tragic mashup of Quinceañera-dress-from-hell meets Say NO to the Dress.

The actress is doing a great job with the Stella role. She was even chomping that gum all the way down the aisle. Ack!

I loved the nod to Marlon Brando/Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, too. LOL

I feel badly for Poncho. He so wanted the wedding farce to be real. Bless his heart!

Silvana

Oh, and I guess we writers are telling us just how strapped for cash Chivis has been, with her two inches of brunette roots showing. No money for the hairdresser to touch up that blonde color. It hasn't been noticeable (to me) until last night's episode, with her hair pulled back.

Silvana

Many thanks, doris, for your kind remarks and your very interesting comments. I'm very glad you mentioned Trini's nasty remark about a monkey remaining a monkey even if dressed in silk. I even know that expression in Spanish, but without the subtitles, I couldn't make out what Trini was saying. Sigh.

I was so puzzled by the bachelor party scene that it never occurred to me that the "chicken" may have been Big Bird. In retrospect, it did look rather like Big Bird, but then again, as you say, QTF? For me, and I guess for you as well, Big Bird makes no more sense in this scene than a random chicken does.

Silvana

1. I was wondering why Chivis seemed not to wear any makeup or lipstick to the wedding. Did that signify anything?

2. I am now watching Silvana on my local Telemundo station in Columbus and it does show closed captions every night it is broadcast.

SILVANA:

Thanks for the recap, Juanita. I missed this episode, and wish that I hadn't so that I could have seen the monstrous wedding dress. :)

Is everyone who is still having problems with their Telemundo feed in the general DC, MD, VA area? I don't use ccs, but I know the HD is still out on that channel for me.

I feel sorry for Poncho, but he should have seen this coming. He always knew what/who Stella was aiming for.

I can't believe Andres is considering getting back with MJ. Why?! Even if he's not feeling it for Lucha, MJ is an awful novia. She's clearly into Vicente, she's lazy, and she's a liar. All proven to him.

Same with Jorge and M-Arg!-arita. Sure, she cooks well. But she can also be a mean, petty, vindictive person.

As for the handshake and well-wishes among the wedding guests, I have been to Catholic wedding ceremonies where this was done, as well as just ordinary church services where this was done.

SILVANA

I'm glad they are showing Chivis with her roots growing out. It has struck me several times as odd that someone as suddenly poor as she supposedly is would have perfect hairdos and manicures for months!
The scene with the red car almost hitting the bride reminded me of the openg titles to my beloved (and utterly bonkers!) first telenovela 'Reina de Corazones' :)

Silvana

GoBlueFan and Vivi, the captions problem with Telemundo affects only the MD/DC/VA area. Apparently some of their equipment was damaged a few weeks ago by a storm. They fixed it for a while, but then the fix stopped working. I'm assured that they're hard at work trying to get everything back to normal. Probably the HD problem is related to this.

Vivi, I agree with everything you've said about Andrés, MJ, Jorge, and M-Arg!-arita (love that version of her name!). And thanks very much for the info about the handshake and well-wishes among the wedding guests. I'm not Catholic, and I don't think I've ever been to a Catholic wedding ceremony, at least not in recent memory.

Silvana

Vivi, if you have any sort of TV or Internet connectivity, you may be able to watch the episodes on Telemundo's website. If you go to http://www.telemundo.com/, you'll see a red heading with the first option on the left being "Novelas". Put your cursor on that, and you'll see the names of three novelas, including Silvana. Click on that, and you'll get last night's episode, plus some earlier ones. You do need to have Flash on your TV or device, I think. I'm under the impression that each day, sometime in the morning, they put up the episode from the night before.

Silvana. Excellent and very complete recap, Juanita. Are you sure you need closed captions? The only thing you may have missed are a few snarky things the "dating"couples made at the entrance to the church. You are absolutely right on about Dominique mentioning Stella's recent expensive dental work as a reason not to kill herself! Amd yep that was a weird and tame bachelor party. I liked your "The air goes out of Stella's balloon." I figured out immediately that the person in the cross between a big bird and Santa Claus costume was Dominique. Andrés is indeed an idiot--either that or a masochist. I kind of liked Benji. If he doesn't turn out to be a low-life, and even better if he turns out to be something like a part-time university student, I think I prefer him to Jorge for Angie. Serves you right, Jorge!

Silvana

Muchísimas gracias, SpanProf, for your reassuring remarks and your insightful comments. I'm delighted to know that I got the bit right about Stella's dental work, and I'll stop there and rest on my laurels. :-)

I agree with your assessment of Andrés, and I too find myself preferring Benji to Jorge. I'd like to think that perhaps Angie will pair off with Benji at the end, though that would break the absurd symmetry of Manuel's sons all paired off with Chivis' daughters. Moreover, it would leave Jorge with M-Arg!-arita (thanks, Vivi!). Though I have little enthusiasm for the passive Jorge, he deserves better than Don Benito's meanspirited nieta.

Silvana

I'll try to put up a list of what happens in tonight's episode. It won't be a full-fledged recap, but it should help to get conversation started. I'm afraid that will be the last contribution I'll be able to make as far as recaps go until the week after next. I'll be away for a week, starting tomorrow (Thursday). I'm not at all sure that I'll be able to watch any of the episodes while I'm away. I'm hoping there will be daily recaps to keep everyone in the loop.

If anyone has been toying with the idea of doing a recap, here's a great opportunity to give it a try.

Silvana

Jude Gray --- Yes! That was very much like the scene in Reina de Corazones! I knew it looked familiar, that I had seen that same thing before, but was too tired to recall which show.

Juanita --- For having no captions, you are doing an awesome job. Thank you!!!!! I hope you have a good trip.

If someone can get the topic started each week, we can all try to fill in what happened in each episode. Recapping is beyond me, but I can help a little.

SILVANA

Juanita, you got the good one! And you did a terrific job recapping it. Doris, I agree. I can’t unsee that dress either. It was so weird. She started out with a gorgeous strapless wedding dress and then ruined it with what looked like the Kleenex flowers I used to make as a kid.

I got a kick out of Stella’s long run. I liked the guy who yelled at her that he’d marry her. I’ve noticed that whenever they have a random person in Telemundo novelas with 2 or 3 lines and playing a humble person the person often speaks with a strong Cuban accent. They must have open calls in Miami for bit parts.

Margarita is insufferable. When the topic came up of whether Trini would ever remarry, Margarita said something about she was the next one to marry and to Jorge. He just sits there like a passive dolt. Jorge was one of my favorite characters early on. He was so sweet helping out the new arrivals and falling for Angie. But I’m about ready to join Team Benji also.

Yep, I knew that was Dominique in the chicken suit. I guess they were going with the usual trope of Poncho being pretty simple. He behaves at times as if he barely breaks 100 for IQ. I think they were going with him thinking there was a woman inside.

I’ve seen some dumb plots in telenovelas, but Stella going all the way to the altar believing Manuel was going to impedir her wedding was just jaw dropping. And the way she’s been so stubbornly blind for weeks, ignoring Manuel’s saying it was over for them. At the altar he actually had to tell her “I don’t love you any more.” This kind of surprised me that he said "any more" making it sound as if he might have in the past. Earlier on, when he broke it off, he said quise but no te amo if I’ve remembered what he said correctly. This difference between querer and amar is something so subtle and so different from English.

Silvana

Thanks very much, novelera, for your kind words and great remarks. If I heard correctly last night, Manuel did say that he didn't love her (I missed the "any more," but I'm confident you're right.) But I think I also heard him say quise last night, after he said he didn't love her any more. I think he said quise, and then said something like "but that's not love." I think it was right after that that she began running her marathon.

You're right about how dumb Stella has been for weeks, believing in the face of so much evidence to the contrary that Manuel will impedir the wedding. She seemed genuinely shocked when he didn't. In that respect, she and Poncho are well matched. Both of them live in fantasy worlds.

SILVANA

I actually felt very sorry for Poncho at the boda-that-never-was. It was lovely how Vicente comforted him. Dominique actually had tears in his eyes, but that could have been from looking at the heinous monstrosity Stella had created from that plain wedding dress! Her marathon running was crazy! You can tell the actress is in really good shape. The actor playing Dominique not so much :) I'd have keeled over after the church parking lot, so I'm not casting aspersions.

General:

Telemundo's captions are back on in the DC, MD and VA area, but the broadcast signal is very weak and continually blacks out. Bummer.

GENERAL:

Yes, the HD was back tonight.

SILVANA SIN LANA - Miércoles - Parte 1 de 2

When I started to write this, I intended it to be just a list, but it kept growing, perhaps because the captions were finally back.

We start by seeing Stella again on the bridge, telling Dominique that Manuel was supposed to come, not him. He quite rightly calls her ungrateful (malagradecida) and tells her that if he didn't adore her so much, he'd throw her off the bridge.

We next see her back in her house, in her bed. Still dressed in her wedding gown, she won't open the door, won't eat, and claims she just wants to die. Dominique calls Manuel to let him know and asks for his advice. Manuel seems unconcerned. He sees all this as just another of Stella's bids for attention. Lucha and Andrés feel that they should go see Stella, that she's in shock and may need medical help. As they leave, Chivis comes in. She sees Poncho and asks him to explain the situation. Did he and Stella plan this? His response, in language I mostly didn't understand, is sort of yes and sort of no (micha y micha, half and half). He cries.

Dominique, Lucha, and Andrés all try to talk to Stella, but she doesn't want to talk to any of them. Andrés offers to give her a sedative, but she says she doesn't want one. Through the closed door, she tells Lucha, "My heart is broken, and it's your father's fault. Tell him I hate him."

At Don Benito's, DB tells Trini in very formal language that he'd love to dance a waltz with her. Trini at first says no, but finally agrees. They dance, and as they dance, DB gets down on his knees and in exceedingly formal and flowery language, he asks her to be his novia. I suspect all Viewerville knows what her response will be: she faints. When she comes to, she claims she doesn't remember anything. When DB seems about to refresh her memory, she says she has to leave.

Andrés gives Dominique a prescription for a sedative, and says it's important that Stella take it. If need be, Dominique should mix it into her food or drink. Dominique inquires after Poncho. Lucha and Andrés report that Poncho's not doing well.

Trini comes to Chivis' bedroom as Chivis is doing some work. Trini asks her to promise not to laugh and then announces that Don Benito has asked her to be his novia (Don Benito se me declaró, which somehow sounds more momentous). She tells Chivis that of course she first fainted and then claimed that she couldn't remember anything. Chivis asks Trini why she responded that way, since they like each other. True to form, Trini replies that "DB is a good person, but he's not of my class." Chivis of course provides the PSA: "What's important is that he's a good person, and you like him."

Pedrito tells Lupita that Stella is a liar, and he's glad his father didn't marry her. Women can't be trusted. Lupita points out that not all women are the same, and that neither her mother, nor her sisters, nor she are liars [she's apparently forgotten about Majo]. Pedrito announces that he thinks he and Lupita should end their noviazgo. Lupita is dumbfounded. She asks why. Eventually, Pedrito admits that he's afraid of suffering and being jilted at the altar, like Poncho.

Dominique is trying just about everything to get Stella to open the door and talk to him. Nothing succeeds. He starts to walk away, when suddenly a note appears from under Stella's door. She asks for ten servings of chocolate ice cream with nuts. Dominique is ecstatic: she's finally reacting.

SILVANA SIN LANA - Miércoles - Parte 2 de 2

Jorge and Margarita are at the movies. This, of course, is TOCIM (The Only Cine in Miami), so in walk Angie and Benji. Benji is intent on watching the movie, but Angie watches Jorge and Margarita kiss (at Margarita's instigation).

Stella and Dominique converse through her closed door. She says she doesn't understand why Manuel didn't react the way he was supposed to. Dom responds that Manuel kept telling her he doesn't love her. "No one stops loving me," she replies.

Poncho returns to Stella's house. He's miserable. Dom says he doesn't want to say "I told you so," but then says "I told you so." Poncho decides he's going to tell Stella the truth, that for him it's never been a farce, and he loves her with all his heart.

At the Fish Market, Vicente explains to Majo that people who work there have fish nicknames. Stella is mojarra (bream), and Chivis is langosta (spiny lobster). He proposes that Majo is kanikama (imitation crab meat). Majo replies that she's not an imitation of anything. Before long, she and Vicente are kissing quite passionately. Suddenly, Vicente sees Andrés. He tells Majo that her ex is here. She's horrified, says "oh my god" (apparently her favorite English expression) several times, and sneaks away.

Poncho converses with Stella through her closed door. She wants him to go away and tells him that the day of the supposed wedding was the worst day of her life. He tells her that seeing her in her wedding gown at the altar was the best day of his life. He then blurts out that he loves her. She tells him she doesn't want to hear such foolishness. "I love Manuel. He's the only one for me."

Angie runs into Jorge at Don Benito's bakery (Jorge has been visiting Margarita). He asks Angie about Benji. She says they're good friends, and that he's very responsible and is studying Civil Engineering at the university. (She says El se paga la universidad, which I think may mean that he has a scholarship. Please correct me if I'm wrong.) Margarita pops up and comments on how good-looking Benji is, and that he and Angie make a good couple. After Angie leaves, Margarita starts in again on how she wishes she and Jorge could be novios again. The distressingly passive Jorge gives in: you win, he tells her, and he asks her to be his novia. [What a wuss!]

Dominique comes into Poncho's room and finds him packing. Poncho tells him he's planning to stay at Manuel's for a few days. After that, he may try to find a place just for himself. Dom is quite upset that Poncho is leaving. He grabs him and pleads with him not to go, but Poncho is determined. As they pass Stella's closed door, Poncho asks Dom to look after her, and Dom promises to do so.

Andrés finally gets Vicente to tell him that Majo is probably in the office. Andrés finds her there, tells her he knows she has left the university, and asks how she's doing. Majo complains of smelling of fish, of having to get up very early in the morning, and of being surrounded by nacos. Andrés tells her that although they're no longer novios, if there's anything she needs, she can count on him. At that point, Vicente enters the office and tells Majo and Andrés "We have to talk." Andrés tries to leave, but Vicente tells him they need to clarify things. He tells Andrés that before he arrived at the Fish Market, Majo and he were kissing. Majo, of course, denies this. Vicente says to her, "It seems you like both of us. Which one do you want to be with?" On that question, the episode ends.

Juanita - Thank you for the recap!

I heard that micha y micha and was too tired to look it up, figuring it was STTE of ‘more or less’.

I wonder why Chivis was dressed in that bright lemon yellow dress? That yellow made Chivis look old and tired, and it also jumped off the screen. Telenovelas production companies are quite strategic with home décor and wardrobes. Other than “old and tired”, the reason for that color is beyond me.

Stella holed up in her room, in her wedding dress, had me wondering if she’ll be the next Miss Havisham, Miami style.

novelera - "Kleenex flowers I used to make as a kid." Yes, you nailed it!

I am so over the Majo/Vicente/Andres drama.

It was interesting that the guys still had on their tuxes, long after the wedding scene was over. Most guys I know can’t wait to get out of them. I guess Telemundo had to rent them for the whole day, so they were getting their money’s worth.

SILVANA

Great recap Juanita!

Doris, I also thought that about Miss Havisham! But if Mss Havisham had had a loyal and fun gay friend bringing her ice-cream I think she'd have snapped out of it sooner! Stella was delusional and refusing to see the signs. Poor Poncho.

Okay, Jorge is now just annoying me. I remember boys I liked being easily led like that and it used to infuriate me!

Anyone who falls for Trini's fake fainting deserves all they get. She's ridiculous! Don B is a catch.

I actually thought Chivis looked lovely at the wedding... Very sort of 1960s. Pale lipstick and all.

Silvana

Thanks, doris and Jude Gray. I'm racing to get out of the house to catch a plane, so no time now. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there will be recaps while I'm away.
Ciao.

Silvana. Thank you so much for the excellent recap, Juanita! I think Angie said that Benji was paying for college himself; I don't know if the implication is that he has a scholarship or not or if it says precisely how he is doing so. Civil Engineering! How great! Pick him, Angie! Do it for your future children! Jorge is even bad at math. Yep, all of us in Viewerville knew that Trini would faint--and even she is a bit cynical about her avoidance technique when she mentions it to Chivis. If we had any doubts that those faints were genuine, now we know! Loved TOCIM--it's a telenovela; there has to be only 1 cine--along with 1 hospital, 1 police station, etc., etc. Imitation crab meat is a pretty good description of MJ. I think that mixing a sedative into someone's food is probably unethical, and chocolate is a good medicine for a broken heart. I predict that nothing will come of the Vicente, MJ, and Andrés confrontation. It's a false alarm, a tease. And btw, if Andrés wants to help out the emotionally needy, he should adopt a puppy from the nearest animal shelter. In the long run, narcissistic, privileged MJ will be fine on her own.

Juanita, you outdid yourself! Great recap. I’ll do something tonight, but it probably will be brief. I’ve got some dinner guests Friday and have some shopping and bathroom cleaning to do tonight.

If we don’t have any volunteers for recaps next week while Juanita is gone, I’ll try to put up a few lines on Tuesday and Wednesday.

I got zero sympathy for Stella. Manuel is right to keep calling her crazy. I get so fed up with obsessive women in telenovelas. I know it’s a regular feature so we have to keep putting up with the “other woman” who won’t give up. In this one Stella isn’t a villain like the other women in more serious novelas, but she drives me nuts. I know the actress is doing a good job and all, but I just can’t stand her every time she appears on screen. I did get a big kick out of the chocolate ice cream all over the ghastly wedding dress. Miss Havisham indeed!

Did Andrés really say “sedative”? An anti-depressant would be more in order. She doesn’t need to sleep; she needs to get over herself.

And, really Jorge? What lousy judgment! What he needed to do was STAY AWAY from Margarita and let her get over him, whether or not Angie ever gave him the time of day again or not. The writers have ruined him as a character.

I think you’re right, SpanProf, that that cliffhanger with Vicente, Andrés, and Majo will amount to nothing.

Thank God for Manuel. He’s one of the few decisive males in the novela. I was SO pleased he didn’t rush over there to try to get Stella out of her bedroom. And he reserved his sympathy for the one who deserved it: Poncho.

Pedrito breaking up with Lupita was ridiculous.

SILVANA

Yes, novelera, Mañuel is quite the mensch. My DVR stopped recording just as the preview for tonight's episode was starting, but it looks like Silvana's posh country club friend shows up again, and from what I saw, appeared to be giving Mañuel the glad-eye. Maybe she'll try to come between our hero and heroine, since Stella obviously can't.

Silvana

Just a heads up, Jude. On the Telemundo part of the Caray blog the consensus for a long time has been that many of our regulars prefer to be surprised. Thus we don't talk about what the previews show.

SILVANA

lo siento!
