A Que No Me Dejas (AQNMD) #21. Monday October 10, 2016. Alakazam! Nuria Turns A Bottle Of Tequila Into A Baby Daddy And The Gonz Makes Adrián’s Drug Charges Disappear!

At a glance

-- Post-breakup tears for some and high hopes for others.
-- Leonel lets Nuria think he slept with her but he didn’t. Nuria lets Leonel think she is a virgin but she isn’t. This should get interesting when she tries to pin her baby on Mr. Peanut Butter and Slime.
-- Nuria discovers that her daddy was the one who planted drugs in Adriáns hotel room and that he got the young man released from jail by bribing an official. She agrees to keep her mouth shut if The Gonz makes her his successor. I know, the joke tells itself!

A closer look

Lying on the concrete slab of his prison cell, Adrián recalls his happier memories with Paulina and wallows in self-pity. “Our love? The only idiot who was in love was me! What an idiot (I was)!” On the beachfront promenade, Pau squeezes a few sad tears, partly for ruining Adrián’s life and partly, I would assume, for her sudden onset of homelessness.

At Casa Fonseca, Camilo informs his parents that Paulina is staying at Karen’s because she won’t be returning to Casa Murat. Gonzalo is indeed involved in Adrián’s detention. However, there is something far worse and Camilo is only revealing it because Paulina authorized him to do so. He tells Raquel and Alfonso about the fraud Gonzalo committed in the past and about Julieta’s blackmail. There is now irrevocable proof that The Gonz built (fincar) his fortune based on fraudulent practices. Camilo and his father agree to keep a very close eye on all the business transactions that take place in the hotel consortium. Raquel is grateful that Camilo told them all this but she reprimands him for taking part in yet another masquerade with Paulina. Camilo maintains that he is not pretending. He is going to do his best to win Paulina over and make her forget Adrián.

With nothing to occupy himself inside his cell, Adrián starts take his anger and frustration out on his fleece blanket and suit jacket. He tosses them around, kicks them repeatedly, cries and squirms on the floor... Yo, fresh fish! Keep it down, will ya? There are innocent criminals here trying to get their beauty sleep!

Paulina is followed around by some unsavory characters. She manages to get rid of them by ducking into a small hotel. She doesnt have money but she leaves her watch as a guarantee. She assures the front desk lady that she’ll pay tomorrow.

At Casa Murat, the help feel as blue as their bosses. Chelo, the Reuters of Puerto Esperanza, informs Micaela and Beto that Paulina visited Casa Murat earlier but she left without seeing Doña Inés and Mauricio. She argued with her father and told him she didn’t want to be near him again. She also said that she’ll continue to see her mom and Mau even if her dad doesn’t approve. Mica says she has a feeling the bad streak (mala racha) in this house is only beginning.

Paulina calls Mica from her hotel room and asks that Beto get her purse from Karen’s and bring it to her hotel tomorrow morning. She also talks to her mom, who thinks she is still staying a Karen’s. Pau tells her it’s best that she doesn’t stay at home. She’ll come tomorrow and tell her mom everything. Inés advises her daughter to rest. Tomorrow is another day. They exchange I Love You’s but, after hanging up, Inés confides to Gonzalo that she senses her daughter is hiding something. Gonzalo looks like the cat who ate the canary. Or The Gonz who committed the fraud.

Paulina takes off her engagement ring and her starfish necklace that Adrián gave her. Our starfish-crossed lovers remember happier lovey-doveyier times. More suffering. More lamenting. More crying. The only difference is that Pau gets to sleep in a warm cozy bed, while Adrián spends the night on the hard cold concrete floor of a prison cell. In a sharp contrast, Camilo reminisces about the time he was dating Pau and grins from ear to ear.

The next morning, Inés discovers that Nuria didn’t sleep at home. She instructs Chelo to keep an eye on Mau, who spent a very uneasy night in spite of taking the meds prescribed by the alluring Argentine doctor. Inés then goes to Pau’s room to cry and hug her daughter’s picture for a spell.

Nuria wakes up naked in Leonel’s bed. She meets Ariel, Leo’s roommate. Leonel was out to buy her breakfast. She assumes they danced the horizontal mambo at night and he doesn’t correct her. He assumes he was the first man to boogie in her love garden and she doesn’t correct him.

Camilo goes to Karen’s boutique looking for Pau. Karen is very curt (cortante) with him. She tells him Pau isn’t there. Karen doesn’t know where she might be and isn’t willing to provide any further details. Beto arrives to get Pau’s purse. He takes Camilo to the hotel where Pau is staying. Camilo is baffled by Karen’s attitude. Pau explains that her best friend thinks she betrayed her. Why is that? Because Karen loves Camilo and Pau encouraged her to pursue him, only for her to pull the stunt she pulled yesterday at her cancelled wedding. Camilo is surprised by this revelation. He likes Karen as a friend but he is not interested in her, romantically-speaking. The only woman he loves is Paulina. However, Pau reminds him that she is in love with Adrián. Camilo points out that Adrián is no longer part of Pau’s life now. Camilo asks for a chance to win over Paulina and see whether the love they once shared could once again be revived (resurgir). He is willing to wait the time it takes for her to forget Adrián. Paulina believes this is not fair on Camilo. He insists that this is his decision to make and he is willing to undergo the risk.

Pascual, Adrián’s lawyer, couldn’t locate the student who made the drug trafficking accusation. If she doesn’t show up during the face-to-face confrontation (careo) then that would be one less thing for Adrián to worry about. All that would remain is the drug found in his hotel room. Adrián thinks it was Gonzalo Murat who had it planted there as punishment for Adrián marrying his daughter. Pascual thinks this is too harsh a punishment. In any case, the lawyer has less than 48 hours to prove the drug was planted, before Adrián gets transferred to prison (reclusorio). He adds that, unfortunately, in this country, Adrián is guilty until proven innocent.

Nuria gets home thought-bubbling that she was lucky that Leonel thought she was a virgin. She can totally pin her baby on him now! Inés asks her where she spent the night and why she stinks of booze. She says she stayed at Acacia’s house and they had a few tequilas. To her surprise, Nuria learns that her father attended the wedding that never took place. Paulina ditched Adrián at the wedding because she decided to get back with Camilo, though Inés says she has her doubts on the veracity of Pau’s claims. Moreover, Adrián got arrested on drug charges. Inés doesn’t provide further details because she can tell that Nuria is relishing all the terrible things that befell Paulina and Adrián. After Inés leaves, Nuria wonders whether Julieta went so far as to sacrifice her own brother to stop the wedding.

Silvestre bribes Comandante Cisneros, as per Gonzalo’s instructions.

At Casa Fonseca, Raquel doesn’t think it’s enough to keep a close eye on The Gonz. It’s best to make a clean break (cortar por lo sano). Better safe than sorry (más vale prevenir que lamentar).

Paulina meets Elisa and the kids taking a stroll on the beachfront promenade. René and Alan apologize for not attending her wedding. She says she didn’t get married anyway. Things that life throw one’s way, eh! The silver lining is that she will be able to stay in Puerto Esperanza and see them regularly at Playa de las Tortugas, in company of little Mau. The kids say their mom no longer wants them to go to that beach, because it is very dangerous. Elisa promises that she’ll try her best to convince their mom to allow them to go. That way, they can keep spending time with Paulina and Mauricio.

Mónica meets her friend Verónica, who happens to be a lawyer. She confesses that she isn’t married to The Gonz. Verónica figured as much, but she is not judging. Mónica explains how Gonzalo spent the last 10 years lying to her and promising to marry her. She now has proof that he has been playing her for a fool all this time. She doesn’t want her kids to carry the Murat last name or Gonzalo to have any parental rights over them. Verónica says that since he recognized his children and he has been supporting them all these years, nobody can prevent him from seeing them and being involved in their lives. Nothing can be done in this respect. If Mónica insists on starting an arduous legal battle, she’ll end up being the biggest loser.

The witness didn’t show up to the face-to-face confrontation with Adrián, so her testimony can’t be taken into account. The drugs found in Adrián’s hotel have also magically disappeared. There is no proof against him and he is free to go. All the charges have been withdrawn. Paulina is lurking nearby but Julieta has her back to her, so she doesn’t see her. Besides, she is too busy celebrating her brother’s release. Does Adrián believe her now? She has said all along that Gonzalo Murat was behind all this! Does Adrián swear never to doubt her word again? Of course he does! All the Murats are the same, he says for Pau’s benefit. They are all selfish, treacherous and wretched people! He’ll never mix with any Murat ever again! Paulina leaves in tears. She thinks to herself how difficult it would be to live without Adrián, especially knowing how much he hates her now.

Silvestre phones his boss to let him know that Comandante Cisneros accepted the bribe (soborno) and that Adrián is now a free man. Nuria overhears the incriminating conversation because she answered her bedroom phone at the same that her father answered his study phone. Nuria wonders what Julieta did to stop the wedding if her dad was the one who got Adrián arrested on drug charges.

Pascual says he has never seen anything like this. It appears that The Gonz made the proofs disappear. “I told you so! I’m always right!” exclaims Julieta. Jaime says that she is not always right, she was right in this instance.

Karen receives flowers from Flavio with a very flattering note telling her that she is beautiful, that the conversation with her was delightful and that she is not alone. Flavio shows up and announces that it was worth coming all the way here just to see her smile. He asks how she feels today. She is worried about Paulina. He tells her Pau doesn’t deserve her thoughts or worries. It appears that Pau spent the night in some crummy hotel and without any money. Flavio insists that Pau is not Karen’s problem anymore. Karen says that she still loves her friend, even though she is hurt. Flavio maintains that Pau doesn’t love Karen and the healthiest thing to do is to forget her. “She left your life but I arrived!” It’s time to close the door of the past and embrace the future! Now get ready and let’s hang out in my yacht! “You have a yacht?” asks Karen. “A yacht and many more things!” replies Flavio with barely-perceptible smugness. I don’t know about you but my jerk-radar is giving off very strong signals. I do not like this guy! What a waste of a good package!

At Casa Murat, Gonzalo is still in his study. He is worried that Pau might talk but is more worried that Julieta might use the fraud-proving paperwork against him. Nuria walks in and tells her dad that she knows he’s the one who got Adrián arrested. However, she won’t say a word about this to anyone. She understands now why he refused to disinherit Paulina. He knew all along that she wouldn’t marry Adrián! Nuria reminds Gonzalo that he had promised her a prize that day and she wants it now. She wants to be his successor (sucesora) in the hotel consortium. She is willing to support her dad in everything, unlike Paulina. This means that Paulina can no longer be her father’s favorite. Gonzalo insists he does not have favorites. Nuria maintains she is now her daddy’s favorite. He just snorts in response. Nuria promises she’ll work very hard to learn the ins and outs of the business. Gonzalo gave Paulina a lucrative career on a silver platter (en charola de plata) and she threw it away like yesterday’s trash. Doesn’t Nuria deserves an opportunity as well? Gonzalo hesitates at first then yields to her request. He will, however, demand great commitment and hard work on her part. This isn’t a game or a whim, niña! “Sí me entiendes, ¿verdad? You do understand me, right?” I suggest we play a drinking game every time we hear The Gonz say: “Sí me entiendes, ¿verdad?” It’s his favorite catchphrase. I must have heard it (or a variation of it) at least a couple dozen times since the show started. Drink!

Leonel confesses to Ariel that he let Nuria believe they slept together last night. That girl is hiding something and he is determined to find out what it is.

As he waits for the lawyer to bring him the paperwork that officially says he is free of all charges, Adrián talks with Jaime about Paulina. Why did she come here? Jaime suggests that maybe she knew what her dad had planned all along. Adrián doesn’t think so. Maybe she intervened on his behalf and pleaded with her dad to free him. Why would she do it though, after betraying and humiliating Adrián? wonders Jaime. Adrián reckons that what he is saying right now might sound dumb but, despite her betrayal, he does not believe that Paulina is malicious like her father. She is not like that!

At Casa Murat, the ball Mauricio was playing with falls into the water fountain. Nuria holds it over the child’s head and lets the water trickle over him. When Inés catches her in the act and scolds her, she throws the ball far away instead of giving it to Mau. A fuming Paulina arrives and... Holy cachetada, Batman! A mighty bitchslap followed by a furious backhand land across Nuria’s face! Paulina screams that she will never forgive Nuria for notifying Julieta about her wedding to Adrián! Viewers give our heroine a roaring round of applause. That was a thing of beauty!

A quote from the capítulo

“Me traicionó, hizo lo que hizo, pero ella no tiene la malicia de su papá. ¡Ella no es así!”*

*Adrián continues to defend his one-true-love, even though she broke his heart to smithereens: “She betrayed me, she did what she did, but she is not malicious like her dad. She is not like that!”

Hey Patio Pals! Hope you had a good weekend. Enjoy the recap and discussion! I'll correct typos tomorrow.

Sorry, no photo this time. I rely on Univision's website to get photos and they haven't posted anything about today's episode yet.

Good night :)

I had to laugh when Nuria told Leonel she was a virgin. HA! I can't wait until she tells him that she's pregnant. Little does she know that he will be 100% sure that the baby is not his! These people are too funny.

"A yacht and many more things!" Well okay then, Flavio! I don't know if we're supposed to trust this guy but I will like him until given a reason not to! He's a little too good to be true so I'm guessing we're not supposed to but I will enjoy the good side while it lasts.

My mouth dropped when Paulina came in with that one-two! What?? That was some good stuff!!! GET HER, girl!

Thanks for the recap!

Gracias, Nandicta. I tried watching this on Univision's site but the video never plays smoothly.

In view of their past scenes Adrian would be a complete idiot to think Paulina complicit in what Gonzalo did to him. Don't know whether the friendship with Karen is over completely but the issue of Camilo won't go away. And if Flavio isn't what we thought originally someone else will come along for her.

The idea of Nuria being pregnant is repulsive in view of what she is likely to do to a child and because of what she's done already. She will end up with one that has foetal alcohol syndrome and now will accuse Leonel of having impregnated her. It would be ironic if he were gay, but I don't know that this story will go there. Nuria has too high an opinion of her own attractiveness and likely thinks that any man who doesn't get a woodie at the sound of her name is gay.

I think he has her number as a high-maintenance mess but that might not be enough to protect him from Gonzalo's wrath when the accusation comes down.

You have to applaud Paulina for letting her have it at the end of the episode. That was priceless.

Thank you, Nandicta!

I can't even focus on Paulina and Adrian right now with all the juicy things that are going on.

Paulina is going to keep seeing Alan and Rene in secret! The Fonseca family knows the slime Gonzalo is! And Nuria trying to trick Leonel but the jokes on her (can't wait for that one)! And Paulina double slapping Nuria so hard she's going to have to put some ice on her face.

For all of Paulina's faults, I'm glad she is fully of the evil around her. This should make for very interesting developments.

Karen, Karen, Karen. I'm a little disappointed she didn't even let Paulina explain herself after all those years of friendship. Adrian is different since I don't think Paulina would tell him the truth any time soon even if he begged and pleaded and waited for her.

Thanks so much, Nandicta! Haven't seen this episode yet, but can't wait to watch Pau take on Nuria. I'm also laughing thinking about Nuria trying to pass herself off as a virgin, and then trying to convince Leo (who knows nothing happened) that he impregnated her. This is quite the twist to the drunken relations--fake pregnancy scam. I like it. Will Leo let her think she fooled him?

I'm disappointed to hear that Karen and Pau are still on the outs and that Flavio might be slimy. Oh, well! After the wedding debacle, we found out why Karen is taking this "betrayal" so hard. She mentioned again how hard it was for her to trust after her fiance swindled her and stole all her assets. She's on high alert for the people she most loves and cares about betraying her, and what Pau did fed into that deep fear. It's not so much about Camilo, but about feeling there is no one in her life she can trust. She's said several times that Pau is her only "family."

How does Nuria intend to "work" at the hotel chain, when she doesn't like to work?

Nuria will try to boss everyone else around and will learn nothing. Nothing will get done.

Leonel will probably let her think they boinked... for the time being. That is, until the reveal about the pregnancy. His roommate knows that nothing happened; they talked about it the following morning. If he marries her he will try to control her and get several kinds of hell in exchange for it.

Vivi: Nuria is one wicked expletive!

Nandicta good recap. My favorite part of this
Episode was the forward bitchslap and the backhand bitchslap. That was simply the best scene, and waaaaaay over due. And the
Heffa is now blackmailing the ol block shes
The chip of.
Camillo is playin a dangerous game wirh his
Heart. And hes going to loose. She wont forget adrian cause she loves adrian. And they will come back together. Adrian already
Has doubts about her not being anything like her Lying liar of a father.

Flavio seems to be in a hurry to get into k's
Fruit of the looms. Why is he tellin her to foeget her friend who she loves likw a sister?
He just met her, he's a bit pushy, tellin her
What to do already. Tellin her hes got so much more. Besides the yacht. Whats the hurry? Slow your jets Chet!!!

Thank you Meeks, Urban, Superalfie, Vivi and Steve for stopping by! This episode was a great start to the week and your comments are the cherry on top!

Meeks, the thing that bugged me about Flavio wasn't just the "A yacht and many more things!" lowkey douche bragging. I started getting bad vibes with his insistence that Karen cut all ties with her best friend. He is constantly trashing Paulina and trying to make Karen hate her when: A) he knows nothing about either woman or the relationship that unites them, and B) Karen herself, the concerned party, says she still loves Pau and cares about her. His “She left your life but I arrived!” was creepy. Not only is he coming on too strong but I get the impression that he is trying to isolate Karen. To what end? I don't know, but I don't like it. If only he wasn't so good-looking. Jerks that hide beneath a handsome outer layer are the most dangerous kind.

Urban, sorry you had trouble with your Univision video. To be fair, it wasn't Adrián who accused Paulina of being in cahoots with her father, it was Jaime. And he just threw it out there without thinking. Adrián is hurt by Pau's betrayal but he is well aware that she is not devious like her father (or her sister for that matter).

You're right, Nuria's pregnancy is child abuse from the get-go. The poor baby is getting the biggest anvil in Dejaslandia so far and it's not even born yet.

Leonel is indeed playing Nuria's game, making her think she's the hottest woman to have ever graced the face of the earth. My guess regarding Leo's reaction to the pregnancy news is similar to yours: I reckon that he'll take advantage of his "paternity" to join the Murat family but there's no telling where things will go from there. There's also no telling how The Gonz would react. I must say, this is another storyline that has captivated my attention. I can't wait to find out more. Nuria and Leonel are such an entertaining couple!

Superalfie, I agree, there are many interesting plotlines to keep us coming for more. As for Karen, I think she should snap out of it and let Pau explain what happened. At the end of the day, Karen went out once with a guy she likes but who has never given her the time of day. It's not a date if the other person doesn't know it is. It's not like Karen has dibs on Camilo for life. It sucks when love isn't reciprocated but that's life. I would've been ticked off if I were in Karen's shoes, after a couple of days, I would be ready to talk and clear the air. Sisters before misters!

Vivi, welcome back! I hope you enjoyed your weekend!

You'll enjoy this episode! Lots of intriguing developments. I'm interested to hear your opinion about Flavio, especially given your spot-on analysis about Karen's isolation and Pau being the only family she has.

Nuria insisting on being her father's successor in the hotel business handed me one of the biggest laughs in this episode. The girl is useless! She's a failure at school, she is irresponsible, she has zero interpersonal skills, she is bossy, arrogant and unbearable... She knows how to read and write, that's about the gist of it. If she were in charge, she would run the business alright... Into the ground!

Steve, yep, Nuria is one nasty piece of work!

Nina, Welcome back! We missed you! Glad you made it through the hurricane safely, amiga. :)

With all the craziness going on we didn't even discuss Camilo today, but you are right, he's "playing a dangerous game with his heart"! I feel sorry for him. He foolishly let the love of his life get away and now he lays his heart at her feet, hoping for a second chance, but his poor heart will get trampled on over and over again.

"Slow your jets Chet!" Hahaha! Yeah, Flavio! Take it down a nacho!

I didn't even notice that your part when I saw the episode but I did keep noticing how insistant Flavio was that Karen cut all ties to the obly person she can call family.

It made me think of one of those men who slowly but surely cut their spouses are from everyone they love and then take him to isolated areas so that they can reach out for help and then they could do with them as they wish.

It's an extremely unsettling and kind of scary possibility for this plot line.

Thanks for the detailed recaps. Having a problem watching the show online, but I move soon and hope to get Univision again. In the meantime, the recaps are great! Leonel will be happy to do the "right" thing and marry Nuria and care for "their" child. Then, once he's sucked enough money or shares out of Gonzolo's business, he can find a reason to get the kid bloodtested, "discover" it's not his, and win the right to get rid of Nuria and the child. He'll come out ahead. The child is doomed.

Monica has a house in Chetamul. She should sell it and move to the west coast.

Kelly

Superalfie, especially considering that Karen was preyed upon by an unscrupulous (and perhaps domineering?) man not long ago.

Thanks, Kelly. Glad the recaps are useful to you. The prediction you made regarding Leonel's "paternity" seems to be the most plausible scenario, though the writers can still surprise us along the way. It also remains to be seen how Gonzalo would react to the grandchild news.

Sorry, I meant to say that *I fear Flavio is one of those men who like to control their vulnerable spouses, especially considering that Karen was preyed upon by an unscrupulous (and perhaps domineering?) man not long ago.

I'm hoping the baby storyline keeps us coming back for more laughs. Watching these two dance around each other with their lies is hilarious. First time I am invested in a who can be the baby daddy after a one night stand of drunken sex scenario.

Kelly, I am betting on that scenario too. The fact that Leonel called Nuria sleeping with Nuria disgusting further cements the gay theory. Oh boy, not the baby daddy and possibly gay, Gonzalo is going to blow!

I'm hoping we're misreading Flavio because I don't want Karen to become the local punching bag (since there's always one) but his good looks and money may be more style than substance.

Leonel is not gay, he is vain and ambitious. It's Nuria's over-inflated ego that labeled him gay because he didn't respond to her advances. She thinks that it is inconceivable that any man would fail to find her irresistible. In Thursday's episode, Leonel made it clear that he finds Nuria a high-maintenance brat full of herself and deluded into thinking that men queue up around the block for the honor of courting her. He's playing her game and feeding her delusion that she is a sx goddess because it's in his best interest. He also said that he finds her sister Paulina way hotter and that he would've liked to seduce her instead. However, since the hot younger sister is taken, he has to make do with the egomaniacal older one. This kind of talk sounds pretty hetero to me. The fact that he said that Nuria disgusts him when she passed out drunk on his bed is pretty understandable. She came to his house drunk as a skunk, drooling all over him, trying to ge him to boink her. She couldn't keep her eyes open, she was quite probably smelly and on the verge of puking everywhere. For an overly neat guy who doesn't even like people touching his shirt, the prospect of bedding someone in that state is really offputting.
