Silvana

So glad to hear from you, Evangeline! We love to hear from new visitors to our Caray, Caray Telemundo area.

SILVANA – LUNES – Parte 1 de 2

We return to Silvana speaking over the stereotypical prison phone to Antonio José. She tells him she’s definitely separating from him. He asks her to trust him. She tells him she no longer believes anything he says. She says she’ll try to smooth things over with Lupita, but she no longer lies to the two older girls.

Stella shows up at Manuel’s house. He makes his first mistake and lets her in. Right away she drapes herself all over him, saying she’s come to offer her support. In the same Alvin & the Chipmunks voice that has caused people to cringe from coast to coast she starts in. She tells him what happened to “Chichis” is horrible. But, of course, they’re married according to the law of God. She tells him to prepare himself.

When he tries to get her out of there she reminds him that he said he cared for her (me querrías). He asks when he said that and that he’s going to start recording what she says so he’ll have a record of it. When she says she’ll go next door to “help” Chivis, he lets her back in. She grins in triumph when her back is to him.

Manuel tells her there’s no “us” any more. Now she gets to why she came in the first place. Stupid but crafty, she starts trying to plant doubt in his mind. She tells him that AJ has power. He’ll get out. Chivis may be excited about her current “savage”, but in the end she’ll prefer the father of her children. She’ll want to return to that life of travel and luxury.

Trini is having a hard time managing the First Communion party. Don Benito tells her he choked on the hostia (host) at his. Then he said that when he was in the hospital, he had thoughts of the most beautiful person in his life: his mother. Trini is once again deflated. One of the children at the party asks why they’ve never seen her father come to school. Pedrito really screws up. He says that her father is in jail. Lupita runs upstairs. Angie tries to comfort her, and Pedrito himself comes up to apologize.

We get another boring scene with Dominique and Poncho. Poncho says he still loves Stella, yada yada. And Dom, for the zillionth time, tells Poncho that she’s still chasing Manuel. Dom finally convinces Poncho that he needs to play hard to get. Poncho goes upstairs and discovers that Yorkie 2.0 has chewed up his boxer shorts.

In Chivis’ bedroom we again get differing views over AJ. Trini thinks he’ll get a special place in jail [maybe with Fresas Aquí on the door]. She airily says that AJ had some cash problems. Angie says that her father is no saint. MJ gets angry with her sister, saying that her father hasn’t harmed anyone [!]

MJ tries to call Andrés and gripes once again about their being no signal there. She goes outside and, of course, meets up with Vicente. He tells her he’s come to save her from marrying the wrong man! She tells him she’s moving back to help her family. He’s very happy and hugs her. Just then Andrés walks up. He doesn’t actually seem that upset.

Stella gives her version of her visit to Manuel when she’s at home with Dom and Poncho. She tells Poncho that she “senses” that Manuel is going to return to her after this little “break”.

SILVANA – LUNES – Parte 2de 2

MJ and Chivis talk. Chivis confides that she’s worried about money and needs to get a job. MJ suggests her old friends, and Chivis reminds her they’ve ignored her completely. Then MJ suggests Laura, but Chivis doesn’t want to bother MJ’s future mother-in-law. At last, MJ tells her mother that she would not object to her returning to work at the Terminal. She also says she realizes that her mother was very happy working there.

Laura finds Andrés packing MJ’s things and gets irate about the wedding being postponed. [I don’t remember Andrés and MJ actually saying it was postponed.] Laura says that every time MJ has a problem her only answer is to postpone the wedding. She asks her son to stop putting himself second. And she goes on to say that it doesn’t seem like MJ really wants to get married. She says that MJ is irresponsible. Laura asks her son if he wants to marry such an unstable and immature person. “What if you have a big problem someday? Do you think you will be able to depend on her then?” Andrés looks like he wonders that himself.

MJ tells her mother that she doesn’t think it’s right to marry while her father is in jail. [Laura, you’re so right.] Chivis is overjoyed when MJ tells her she’s coming back to live with her mother and sisters.

Manuel and Chivis talk on their balconies. Manuel says that white-collar guys always get out. When Chivis says she doesn’t know how she’ll pay for his legal fees, Manuel says that surely his accomplice Rafael will defend him.

Then they move on to talk about pleasanter things. He says something about spring and geraniums that pleases her. Then, honest as always, he says he’s quoting Neruda. But he adapted Neruda’s poem about spring and cherries to spring and geraniums because of his long ago gift.

Chivis tells Manuel she wants to begin working with him again. He’s very happy, but teases her. He tells her she has to stop forcing herself on him, especially in public. She tells him that the only thing she’s sure about these days is how she feels about him. [Take that, Stella!]

At the Terminal Stella is all over Chivis, saying she wants to be her friend.

At the school some kids are following Lupita and Angie making remarks about their father. Jorge sees this and turns the corner to see Margarita giggling over this bullying of a little girl. She denies having spread the rumor and gets nasty with Jorge about his abasing himself for Angie.

Manuel makes an announcement in the Terminal that Chivis is coming back. Everyone applauds. Stella is shown weakly clapping while furiously chewing her gum.

Silvana

Thanks so much, novelera, for this wonderful recap! I kept laughing at your asides, and also at comments such as "He makes his first mistake and lets her in" and the bit about Stella's Alvin & the Chipmunks voice. Perfect! And several times you helped me catch things that I missed when I watched the episode.

I was a bit surprised that Andrés didn't immediately get upset when he came upon Majo and Vicente hugging. He did say something later, so we know he saw them, but he seemed strangely calm at first. And I agree that his expression when Laura accused Majo of being irresponsible and immature seemed to suggest that the thought had definitely crossed his mind as well.

Perhaps time has erased my memories of elementary and middle school, but I don't recall kids ever being as nasty as the girls at the charter school repeatedly have been to Lupita and Angie.

Trini continues to be a piece of work. Ah yes, of course AJ won't be put in a cell with nacos. Heaven forbid! Sigh.

Silvana. Another excellent recap, novelera! Witty and perceptive as usual. I also loved "He makes his first mistake and lets her in" and "Alvin and the Chipmunks voice that has caused people to cringe from coast to coast." And indeed: "Laura, you are so right." But what has happened to our MJ? As of an episode or 2 ago she was irresponsible, immature and unstable--everything Laura said about her. But now she does seem to be maturing. Moving home to help out? Thinking it's ok for Chivis to return to work at the terminal because working there makes her happy, and besides the family needs the money? Offering to help out financially with what she earns selling high-end clothing? Thinking of someone other than herself? This is not the Majo we know and hate! Trini may be right. It's possible that AJ will end up in one of those "country-club" style prisons for people who have committed non-violent financial crimes--kind of like Martha Stewart.

Silvana. I'm thinking Andrés may be relieved when MJ finally breaks up with him to marry Vicente. As I have said on several previous occasions: Get a puppy!

Silvana

SpanProf, I think we're seeing Majo mature in telenovela time. Telenovela time permits people to travel from the US to, say, Morocco (in El Clon) in what seems to be a few minutes. It's what helps people recover from life-threatening injuries and illnesses in just a few days (unless, of course, they fall into a months-long coma).

And yes, AJ may wind up in a country-club prison, but Trini is surely deluded if she thinks there's a special section of the county jail set aside for "respectable" folks like AJ.

Silvana. Juanita: :)

Silvana

I think you're right, SpanProf, that Andrés may be relieved (as well he should be) when MJ breaks up with him to marry Vicente. However, that leaves Andrés free to be with Lucha. So what happens with Mauro? I think he's better for Lucha than Andrés is. Are we going to have some Awful Reveal about Mauro?

Silvana. Juanita: I hope not, but it seems like the most likely possibility. Unless Mauro decides he really wants to be a priest or something?

SILVANA

I'm hoping that Dominique meets someone.

Span Prof:

Silvana: Just when you think things couldn't get worse.

Silvana. Jude and Steve: Or maybe Doninique will meet Mauro?

SILVANA:

Thank you, Novelera! Was out of town and I have to catch up with the last few episodes. I'm glad Chivis is going back to working with Manuel and that Majo is starting to act more mature and supportive of her family.

Slightly Off Topic: Yesterday Gonzalo Vega, father of Marimar Vega (Stella) and Zuria Vega (Telemundo actress) died. He was a famous Mexican telenovela/movie/theater actor: http://tinyurl.com/h34arwu

SILVANA
Novelera--Another top hit from your pen. Thank you for donating so much time and talent to this "summer" novela, even though the leaves are turning here in the mid-Atlantic.

I'm tired of Trini and her defense of AJ. He's going to have to be accused of something pretty bad to get her to change her mind, though. Thank goodness Chivis is staying strong. Stella is delusional, agree. She was *certain* the connection between herself and Manuel was unbroken--like the big chain on a cruiser at anchor or something like that.

The scene between Chivis and Stella made me uncomfortable. Stella insisted on invading her personal space. I know the feeling. Chivis didn't want to be rude, but you knew she didn't welcome the "peace accord."

So glad Manuel brought Chivis around to tell him she has strong feelings only for him.

Silvana

Thanks so much for the kind words, all. Stella just brings out the snark in me. Interesting point, SpanProf, about Andrés actually being kind of relieved when Majo breaks it off with him. I thought it was sort of bad writing how overjoyed he was when she said she wanted to speed the wedding day along. He’d certainly had enough red flags about her to alert even a much dumber guy than he is. He got angry with his mother, even saying he’d move into the apartment before getting married, when she was critical of the postponement. But he looked veeeery pensive when his mother mentioned how Majo would behave should he encounter problems in his so-far golden life.

I agree that the kids in that school are very mean. Margarita is just beyond contempt. It’s one thing to be jealous and angry about Jorge’s feelings for Angie, but quite another to cause such pain to a sweet little girl like Lupita.

I agree that Majo is on the road to growing up. The one thing she can’t let go of, at least not yet, is being Daddy’s Little Girl. As the eldest she should be able to see what her father has done, but she just won’t stop being blind.

Silvana

I hope to have tonight's recap posted sometime tomorrow morning.

SILVANA

novelera - Thank you for the recap of Monday's episode!

Looks like our Majo is slowing starting to redeem herself, with emphasis on "slow", but progress is being made.

SpanProf - your comment about Dom meeting Mauro reminded me that when Lucha first met or saw Mauro, Andres told her that M is gay. She thought he was "dissing" M but perhaps Andres was on to something.

As for Trini .... I still have to FFWD--> thru her scenes. I cannot take her, nor her voice. Most. Annoying. Telenovela. Character. Ever.

SILVANA SIN LANA (cap. 58) - MARTES - Parte 1 de 4

We again see Manuel welcoming Chivis back to the Fish Terminal. All the employees applaud. Chivis tells them that she missed them. Chivis then tells Manuel privately that she has to leave for a while, she has to bring Antonio José some things that he asked for. Manuel offers to accompany her. She tells him it's not necessary. He says he thought she'd like not to be alone when she goes to see "el bandido, that it might affect her. He winds up going with her.

Dominique comments to Stella that her thoughts of getting back with Manuel don't seem too likely, since Manuel wasn't paying any attention to her. Stella says that the key is patience. "Just wait until Chivis' husband gets out of jail and finds out that she works at the fish terminal. He'll take her away from here very quickly." "And how will he find out?" asks Dominique. Stella smiles. "I don't know, but he'll find out." She adds, "The sea bream (la mojarra) is rich in omega-3s and is good for one's health, but if you neglect it (la descuida), it becomes toxic. I'm la mojarra."

Angie and Lupita are walking in the hallway of the charter school. Angie tells Lupita not to feel badly about her father, and she assures her that she'll be there for her. No sooner is Angie gone than some of the nasty boys start taunting Lupita; one of them calls her the daughter of a thief. Pedrito yells at the boy and goes over and grabs him just as the teacher comes into the hallway. She tells the boys they should settle their disputes with words, and orders both Pedrito and the other boy to el salón, which I suppose is akin to the principal's office. Lupita thanks Pedrito for saving her. She tells him he's the best novio in the world and kisses him repeatedly. Pedrito seems quite pleased.

Trini and Don Benito have yet another failure of communication. Trini says she's glad that AJ is back, because now he'll be able to set everything right. Don Benito says he won't be able to do much as a prisoner. He continues: "What you need in your family is masculine support." Trini says she agrees. They need someone who wears the pants in the family (alguien que se ponga los pantalones). DB tells her "I'm glad you realize that I want to be more than a friend." She goes into her "what do you mean?" routine. As he's done in the past, he can't bring himself to say what he means, and he finally says that he wants to be [longish pause] a friend of the whole family, like a godfather (como un padrino). The disappointed Trini tells him that he's not Marlon Brando and they don't have an unknown father. She calls Don Benito a dunce (menso) and leaves. Don Benito is angry with himself, not for being a coward but for not being more careful about what he says. "Think, Benito, before you speak. Think!" he says to himself, and adds the dicho: Por la boca muere el pez (the fish dies because of his mouth--i.e., watch what you say).

Chivis exits from the jail, and the waiting Manuel asks how things went. She tells him she left the things AJ asked for, but she didn't go in to see him. She says something about God knowing how to do things. Manuel says he thinks that this time, God made a mistake and gave her a crook for a husband. Chivis reminds him that "With this crook, I had three marvellous daughters. I don't think God made a mistake. And now he has sent me you." Chivis and Manuel are clearly flirting with each other, and Rafael is in a nearby car watching.

SILVANA SIN LANA - MARTES - Parte 2 de 4

Angie comes to Don Benito's bakery and asks Juanito where she can find Margarita. Juanito is reluctant to answer Angie's question. He doesn't want to get involved in the disputes between her and Margarita. Angie first tries to overcome his not wanting to speak by telling him to answer her questions by blinking (parpadear), once if he means yes, twice if he means no, and three times if he doesn't know. Juanito tries but gets confused. He finally tells Angie that Margarita is in the back. Angie goes there and immediately tells Margarita that this time she has gone too far (esta vez te pasó la mano) by spreading the news of her father's arrest to everyone at school. "I don't care how many times you mess with me," she tells Margarita, "but with Lupita?" Margarita insists that she did not spread the news, that everyone had already heard by the time she arrived. At one point, Margarita refers to Angie's private tutor, and Angie tells her to leave Benji out of this. Margarita asks Angie, "Are you happy?" When Angie says she is, Margarita tells her "enjoy it while it lasts, because I don't foresee a future for this relationship. You know why? Because Benjamin is only with you because I asked him to (Benjamin solo está contigo porque yo se lo pedí). Angie tells Margarita she's crazy and accuses her of lying. Margarita says go ask him. She tells Angie, "You began by making my life miserable. If I'm going to suffer, you're going to suffer."

The scene shifts to the jail, where Rafael and AJ are talking. A substantial part of their conversation eluded me. I think AJ may have told Rafael to place bets for him, but I'm not at all sure. I do know that Rafael warned him that he (AJ) was being closely watched and they couldn't afford to make one false move. Though AJ claims he has lots of friends, Rafael says many people hate white-collar people like us; they can see you as a haughty, self-important big shot who steals money from the poor. AJ insists that Rafael needs to get him out of jail. Rafael says, "You think it's easy to get the million dollars they've set as bail? How are we supposed to get all that money?" AJ tells him it doesn't matter what has to be done, we'll get it and then I'll take care of things (Ya me las voy a arreglar). And the first thing AJ says he'll do is to get Chivis back. He admits that he has not treated her well, and that he's left her all alone to deal with everything. Rafael informs him that she hasn't been all alone, she has un amigo.

Amigo Manuel and Chivis are in the amigo's office. Manuel tells her she needs to make some calls to get bills paid. She agrees. She mentions that Angie will be going off to the university next year, and Chivis needs to make preparations. Manuel observes that education in the US is very expensive, not to mention health care. "If you got sick, just imagine," he says. She asks him not to talk about that and says she wouldn't be able to pay. [ The conversation moves on, but I'm wondering whether we're going to see a medical emergency sometime soon.] Manuel and Chivis go into flirtation mode, which of course means that they'll be interrupted: in walks Cata. She offers her condolences: she's heard the news about AJ, and so have all their friends. Chivis tells her she doesn't care what others have said. They're no longer her friends, and she doesn't have time for gossip, she has work to do. Manuel starts to leave. Cata says they have pending business, but Manuel happily tells her to talk to Chivis. She's returned to work, and it's her business. He's out the door.

SILVANA SIN LANA - MARTES - Parte 3 de 4

We return to Rafael and AJ. AJ wants to know more about the amigo. Rafael tells him it's a neighbor. He sells fish. AJ laughs. Chivis would certainly not be interested in an ordinario. Well, says Rafael, I saw him waiting for her just now in the parking lot.

Cata keeps going on and on about the situation with Chivis and Manuel. "Imagine what people will say when the news gets out that Silvana de Villaseñor is going out with a fish seller. And with her husband in jail." Exasperated, Chivis tells her that from now on they'll do their business via email. Cata suggests Chivis take a pill to calm her nerves, and then Cata leaves.

Said husband in jail continues his conversation with Rafael. AJ wants to know more about the amigo. Rafael says he knows nothing about him except that he's a fish seller. "The guy's a Mr. Nobody" (El tipo es un Don Nadie). This reassures AJ, who asks Rafael how he could possibly think that Silvana Riva Palacio Villaseñor would be attracted to a fish seller? The two of them laugh at this absurd idea. AJ then tells him that his job is to get him out of jail. Rafael again says it may be more difficult than they thought, and it would have been better if AJ had stayed outside the country. AJ still doesn't take the situation all that seriously. He says, "Imagine if I don't get out of here, and Chivis marries the naco fish seller in his vulgar shark van." He and Rafael again burst out laughing.

Benji is helping Lupita with her school work. Angie comes home and asks Lupita to continue to work upstairs so that she can talk with Benji alone. Once Lupita has left, Angie tells Benji what Margarita said and asks him whether it's true. Benji tells her that Margarita is a liar, that he couldn't do what Margarita claims, and that he's enchanted with Angie. Margarita wants to damage their relationship. Angie says that Margarita is driving her crazy (Me saca de mis casillas). She apologizes for having mistrusted Benji [Sigh]. Benji says he has to go to class, and as he leaves he tells Angie not to pay any attention to Margarita (No la peles).

At the fish market, Stella remarks that the smell of the fish is making her nauseous. [Oops, is it possible that her brief fling with Steve will have consequences?] Poncho and Dom tell her that they hate their vegetarian diet and so does she. "Stellita 3.0" gives them the keys to her car so they can go buy real food.

Manuel returns to his office to find his landlord, Don Ezequiel, sitting in his chair. Manuel knows that Don E is there to discuss money. Don E tells him that his rent contract is almost over, and to renew the contract will involve an increase of 10%. Manuel is stunned. He asks why he's raising the rent so much, and Don E says simply "Because I can." Manuel points out that he sells fish, not luxury sports cars. All Manuel's arguments fall on deaf ears. Don E tells him that if he doesn't renew the contract, he will have to move out, and his business will go down the drain. Moreover, Don E has been thinking about all the money he could make if he tears down the fish market and puts up luxury apartments. So Manuel can either take the deal or leave it. Manuel says that before he makes a decision, he wants to talk to a good lawyer. "I think we have our rights."

SILVANA SIN LANA - MARTES - Parte 4 de 4

Don E leaves, and as he leaves the fish market he spots Cata. Apparently the two of them move in similar circles and know a lot of the same people. Don E tells Cata about his plan for luxury apartments. Cata warns him that the people involved in the fish market are dangerous, especially Stella. She's a violent maniac. Even though she warns him, Cata looks pleased when Don E tells her about his plans. She probably has a plan, too. [My bet is that Chivis and Manuel won't like Cata's plan, and neither will Viewerville.]

Margarita is talking to Juanito behind the bakery counter. She suddenly spots Benji about to enter, and she immediately drops to the floor to hide. Benji comes in and asks Juanito where she is. Juanito tells him she said she'd be back late. Benji asks him to tell her he came by.

Jorge stops by Angie's. He asks how Lupita is, after the nasty business at school. Angie tells him Lupita is better. Jorge mentions Margarita, and Angie tells him she no longer thinks that Margarita was responsible for spreading the gossip at school. She explains why she has changed her mind. Jorge slaps his head. "Oh, I screwed up" (¡Ay, ya regue!). "Today I scolded Margarita, and I did so quite strongly." Angie says Margarita deserved it, since she's such a liar. Jorge replies that Margarita is jealous but is not a liar. [Angie and Viewerville sigh in disbelief.] She tells him what Margarita claimed about Benji, and then she says she doesn't want to talk further about Margarita. Jorge then asks how her father is.

The scene shifts to the jail, where Majo is visiting with AJ. She tells him that she's been selling clothes in part to help her mother. "You can't imagine how awful all this has been for her." AJ says that Chivis has always been an exceptional woman. Majo says she knows, and confesses that she has behaved very badly toward Chivis. But now things are better. "In fact, since we've been living where we are and experiencing what we have, I've matured a lot." AJ says he never wanted to create this bad situation. He thought up to the last minute that he'd be able to work things out, but he couldn't. Majo tells that she knows, and that he shouldn't worry. She supports him and will always be at his side. He asks when she's planning to marry. She hesitates and then says she wants him to be at the wedding and wants to enter the church holding his arm.

In contrast, Angie tells Jorge that she hasn't been to see AJ and doesn't feel as if she can forgive him. Jorge urges her to do so, and she tells him he should put himself in her shoes. If your father had done something terrible and had abandoned your mother and your siblings, would you pardon him?

Back at the jail, AJ tells Majo that he doesn't know when he'll be released. She assures him that there's no hurry. He then says he's sure he'll get out of here soon [Oh? Did he forget what he just said about not knowing when he'll be released? Perhaps we can see where Majo gets her often confused state of mind.] Majo tells him that they don't live anywhere near where they used to, nor do they live like they used to. Moreover, Chivis is very disappointed in him. He says he knows, she even wants to separate. Majo is surprised: "What? She told you she wants to separate in your circumstances?" No, AJ replies, she told me during one of the times I saw her before. It was very hard for me. Majo is confused: You came to the house once with the gifts, but did you come other times? Yes, AJ replies, we saw each other three or four times. Majo is open-mouthed with astonishment. And that's how we'll leave her for now.

Silvana

Wow, doris, I just now read your comment. I hadn't remembered that Andrés had claimed Mauro was gay. I probably passed it off as Andrés dissing a rival, but now.... Still, Mauro and Dom??

Silvana. Excellent and very complete recap, Juanita. Thanks for the explanation of "Por la boca muere el pez." Somehow I thought he was talking about his own mouth and said "What?" "Is he talking about choking on a fish bone?" Also liked your "Amigo Manuel and Chivis." You are probably right about a medical emergency sometime soon, and I thought the same thing you did about Stella's nausea. If so, good news for Dom and Poncho, since pregnant ladies need protein and fats. In the meantime, Stella is plotting again. Pedrito was adorable when he defended Lupita. Trini's and don Benito's failures of communication are getting kind of tiresome. The new conflict with don Ezequial, the landlord, is kind of out of the blue. My solution: How old is the terminal? Maybe they could get it designated a historical monument. Maybe some famous historical figure bought fish there. Antonio José is such a jerk, and he doesn't change! He does provide a nice further excuse for MJ's postponing her wedding, though. This isn't the first time Margarita has not been believed for previously crying wolf. She gets ever more vile.

Silvana

Juanita - Thank you for the recap!

I cannot see Mauro and Dom, but stranger things have happened. Yeah, no. Just no.

How awful that the marketplace rent is going up, but the landlord has his rights, too, no matter how unfair it seems to the vendors. Rent goes up all the time when a lease expires. I doubt Manuel will get anywhere, legally, with his problem.

Let's hope Manuel does not hire scumbag Rafael as his lawyer. Oh, wait, this presents the opportunity for his lawyer to be someone gorgeous & rich, who has the hots for Manuel, so even more plot devices abound!

Margarita ..... what would be a satisfying punishment for this little witch? Being pushed in front of a bus seems too kind.....

If Stella is anything, she is resilient and persistent. Like a bulldog. Hanging on for dear life.

AJ and Rafa laughing about Chivis and the fishmarket guy deserves a very big comeuppance.

Silvana

thanks so much Juanita for a very complete recap!

(and thanks novelera for Mondays!)

I think AJ wants sleaze lawyer to bet $10,000 on a horse race, hmm, must have some money just laying around, is the plan to get out on $1,000,000 bond to fix things up with Chivis, then flee again, I hope we get to go to his hearing and get to hear the charges, I think the sleaze was referring to the other inmates when he mentioned some people not taking kindly to white-collar criminals, how it abuses poor people.

ah, la mojarra, I think the english captions stuck with "guppy" her fish market nickname, yep, large doses of her are toxic.

so Angie decided that so many of the 1st communion kids go to the same school is how word spread about her father, interesting that Jorge made it clear that Margarita doesn't lie, in regards to what Benji said, (and we'll forget he accused her of lying about spreading the word at school)

Silvana

Juanita, you just go from good to better every time! Thanks so much for this very complete recap. I had heard the dicho about a fish dying because of its mouth before, but it didn’t register last night. I am also very tired of the meme of Don Benito saying the wrong thing. But, when he did actively suggest a relationship, she pushed him away. She’s just a pain in the hindquarters.

I suspect Stella is going to try to get in to see AJ and try to engage his help in splitting up Manuel and Chivis. Although, I’m unclear what he could do from jail.

What a disappointment! Jorge did not find out what Margarita did in getting Benji to go out with Angie. And Angie even gave her an out saying the blabbermouth could have been one of the kids at the church. If he goes to her to apologize, I’m going to throw things at the TV.

AJ and Rafael, two miserable scumbags, talking about Manuel and the shark on his vehicle, just disgusting. They’re dissing a man who has earned an honest living and supported four children, all of them having turned out as good people. AND, one scumbag has lost his wife to that naco!

I’m not sure where the writers are going with AJ telling Majo he’s seen her mother three or four times. Is this to make Majo angry at her father for not seeing her? Or angry at her mother for not telling her she’d seen him? Probably the latter! I thought Majo was quite uncomfortable when her father was talking about how great her mother was. It seemed to me that she was having to suppress telling him that her mother has moved on to someone else.

If I know telenovela justice, Manuel WILL have a case against the greedy landlord.

I had hoped we’d seen the last of Cata, but no. Chivis should have called her out on her massive hypocrisy. She’s been serially unfaithful to her rich husband and has the nerve to throw a rock at Chivis about Manuel when her poor, poor husband is in jail. Please.

SpanProf, thanks VERY much for your comments. I'm delighted that I was able to be of use re the Spanish dicho. I loved your remark about a Stella pregnancy being good for Dom and Poncho, since she'll need protein and fat. I was impressed, too, with your suggestion about having the terminal designated as a historical monument. If you ever tire of your present job, you might consider hiring yourself out as a consultant...you so often come up with great ideas!

Silvana

Thanks so much, doris, for your comments. Yes, I agree that the landlord has to make some money, but he seems like such a greedy slimeball that I hope Manuel will be able to prevail. Perhaps there's a rent-control ordinance, or perhaps with SpanProf's help he'll be able to find a different strategy such as having the terminal designated a historical monument. Or perhaps they'll discover that Don E didn't pay his income taxes for a bunch of years and throw him in jail, and he and AJ can be cell mates.

Silvana

Many thanks, deb, for your comments. You may well be right about the $10K bet, I just don't know. And what good would $10K do if the bail is $1,000,000? Am I wrong that one has to come up with 10% of the bail amount to get out on bond? Or does AJ expect that betting $10K may produce $100K?

I think you're right about AJ's planning to flee again after getting Chivis back. He said something like "as soon as we get the money for my bail, salgo a perderme, which may quite possibly mean "I'll get lost."

Hmm...so the English subtitles went with guppy. I think of a guppy as a very little fish. One of my dictionaries translated mojarra as "sunfish," and went on to say that it was "among the largest bony fish." The WordReference.com dictionary said it was "a type of sea bream." I wonder whether guppy, sunfish, and sea bream are three names for the same fish. Somehow, I doubt it, but I know next to nothing about fish. Among many other things. :-)

Silvana

Muchas gracias, novelera. I'm very pleased that you liked the recap.

It frankly never occurred to me that Stella might try to visit AJ in jail to enlist him as an ally in her effort to break up Manuel and Chivis, though as soon as you suggested it, I thought it sounded very much like the sort of thing Stella (#1, #2, and #3.0) would try.

You raise some very interesting questions about the writers' intentions in having AJ tell Majo that he'd seen Chivis 3 or 4 times. It will be interesting to see how that plays out.

You say that Jorge didn't find out about what Margarita did in getting Benji to go out with Angie, but I think he did find out. Angie told him what Margarita had told her about getting Benji to go out with her. Of course, Angie told him as evidence to support her claim that Margarita is a mentirosa, but still....

SIN SENOS

Deb and Halima, I appreciated your comments on the previous thread. I did watch most of the episodes of Sin Senos I, but my TV reception wasn't great and the subplots were hard to follow without English captions. I didn't discover Caray, Caray! until much later. I have heard of the shorter Sin Tetas series and the soft porn movie version.

I'm very disappointed with Cata II causing so much needless trouble by trying to earn hit man money from Gato, especially since she got to meet Marcial. Why didn't she just play safe and wait for Marcial to go after Diabla? Of course, my local Telemundo lost its English captioning around that time, so maybe she missed out on Marcial's plans. Still, if she were smarter, she would have re-introduced Pelambre to Marcial instead of just pushing Pelambre into Diabla's house with a gun. Her foolishness got Pelambre shot, tortured and killed in vain. He would have stood a better chance by joining Marcial and Titi, and he'd still be in the series. If Cata I is alive, he might have had a redemptive reunion with her.

Juanita: Loved your suggestion about don Ezequial and AJ being future cell mates! And that's me: Spanish professor and social activist! :)

Silvana. Also: Such a large Miami fish market is probably pretty close to the water. It's very spread out but seems to be only 1 story and not supporting anything especially heavy. I'm wondering if the land would support a multi-story condo complex--at least not without a lot of expensive modifications and maybe huge steel underpinnings or something--which might make it not cost effective.

SILVANA

SpanProf - my uneducated guess is that prices for waterfront condos might still be profitable for a developer in Telenovelaland, if buyers are willing to overlook those pesky hurricanes. Waterfront usually brings top dollar.

Juanita, thanks for a stellar recap (pun intended). I wonder if maybe Cata will end up being the landlord's agent or representative at the terminal which would require Manuel to interact with her on a regular basis and allow her to "stick it to Chivis" at the same time. Just a thought. Humm
Helen

Silvana

Many thanks, Helen. That's an interesting idea about the role Cata might play. I strongly suspect that Cata does have something in mind, and it certainly could be what you suggest. No matter what it is, I'm sure it won't be in Chivis' best interests, to put it mildly.

Silvana sin Lana – Wednesday, October 12 – Capítulo 59, part 1/3

Majo is slightly annoyed that Chivis didn’t tell the girls she had seen AJ more than once. He explains that it would have been too dangerous and then they would have been forced to lie to the police if they asked about him. Majo still thinks Chivis shouldn’t have dropped the separation bomb on him in his situation. AJ has accepted it though, even though he still loves Chivis and hopes that she still loves him too.

Angie tells Jorge that she can’t forgive her dad for causing her mother so much pain. That’s why she supports her more than him. Jorge eventually talks her into realizing that parents make mistakes too, but there is nothing they wouldn’t do for their children and nothing they wouldn’t forgive. Apparently Jorge used to be quite the pillo (devil, rascal) when he was younger, but he always forgiven. Besides, at least her father is still alive, and by the look on his face in his church, Jorge knows that her dad loves her. Angie softens up a bit and hugs Jorge, saying what a shame that they lost their way and ended up apart. Jorge responds that they can still find their way again. When te cae el veinte (it dawns on you/you find your senses), he’s right next door…

AJ thinks that Chivis will forgive him and they will get back together. Majo agrees they will be a united family again, but she tries to explain why Chivis was so angry at him since he left overnight without telling them anything. AJ keeps trying to get info about Chivis falling in love with another man and asks about the man he saw leave the house. Majo is uncomfortable but doesn’t reveal anything about Manuel and says she doesn’t think Chivis loves anyone else.

At the terminal, Manuel addresses everyone about the raise in rent. Vicente read through the contract and since they’re only 6 months into the year lease, it is illegal for the rent to be raised anyway. Poncho keeps interrupting and starts to go off on a tangent about how they, the immigrants, built this nation, but he gets almost no applause and Manuel literally pushes him off the box he’s standing on. Chivis wonders if it wouldn’t be better to settle when Manuel mentions getting a lawyer and suing. Stella jumps in that Chivis is on the rich man’s side, but Dom agrees with Chivis and carries Stella away commenting that it seems like she gained weight.

AJ continues pestering Majo to talk about Manuel. She says he’s a good family friend who helped get Angie and Lupita into school and Chivis the job at the market. She tries to change the subject to Trini and Don Benito, but AJ brings it back to Manuel, saying he should thank him personally for helping his family. Majo tells him it’s not necessary but AJ insists.

Majo asks how long he will be in jail. He promises things will go back to normal soon and she will have everything she wants for her wedding. Majo says the only thing she needs is for him to be free. Visiting time is up. AJ asks her to tell Angie that he’s waiting to see her.

Chivis warns Manuel that rich people know how to play dirty when they are afraid of losing their money. They are interrupted by a phone call from the girls’ school that just found out about AJ. They asked Chivis to come in, and Manuel goes with her.

Silvana sin Lana – Wednesday, October 12 – Capítulo 59, part 2/3

Poncho prays to the virgencita to make him more of a leader so he can replace Manuel as the representative of the sellers. Dom makes fun of him, asking for “ubicatex” for his friend who is more lost than ever. He tells Poncho he needs to be more like Manuel. Stella interrupts asking if they bought what she asked for. She already ate the tentempié (snack) and she’s still craving more food.

Margarita looks at photos of her and Jorge on her computer. Benji calls but she doesn’t answer, so he leaves her a mean voicemail, calling her an idiot because she told Angie about the plan. Margarita sends a voice message back saying he’s an idiot because now she has proof of his lies that she can give to Angie.

Andrés finds Lucha on a bench at the university. They weren’t able to talk at the church after what happened with AJ. Lucha points out that he’s the closest to the family so she imagines they need him for support. Eh, not really, he admits. Then he brings up that hopefully Lucha can see why Majo is the way she is. She’s not a bad person; Lucha just met her at the worst time in her life. Lucha somewhat agrees and she is trying to understand her better, but she notes that Andrés doesn’t seem entirely convinced (that Majo’s actions are a result of AJ’s actions and not something else.) Andrés then tells Lucha that he and Majo are getting married soon, and Lucha gets angry that he always feels the need to tell her things about his relationship. Is he trying to bother her? She stomps off.

Pedrito and Lupita do homework. Pedrito asks how long her dad will be in jail. Lupita doesn’t know since adults don’t tell her everything and she always gets told a ver si ya puso la marrana (to get lost/beat it). She thanks Pedrito for defending her at school, and touches his hand. He gets a little nervous and says they should finish their homework.

Don Benito visits Trini. More sweet talking, longing looks, hand touching that gets interrupted by Lupita coming home. Lupita asks how long her dad will be in jail. Trini says not long but Don Benito chimes in not more than 20 years. Trini turns around to give him the death stare and tells Lupita not to pay attention to him.

Mauro can tell that Lucha is distracted and can’t concentrate on studying. Se te nota a leguas (it shows from a mile away). She reveals that she talked to Andrés about his wedding and she doesn’t know why it makes her angry when he tells her things like that. Mauro asks her directly if she’s only with him to forget Andrés. She responds that no, she really does like him. Mauro tells her to just stop thinking about Andrés if there is nothing between them. She knows he’s right. She apologizes and moves closer to him to say that she likes when he gets jealous. She kisses him.

The Three Stooges have stuffed themselves full of non-fresa food. Stella gets serious for a second talking about supporting Manuel in the fight against the rent hike. Dom agrees that Manuel can handle it, but of course Poncho disagrees. Suddenly Stella’s stomach starts making noises and she feels sick. She thinks it was just all the food she ate.

Silvana sin Lana – Wednesday, October 12 – Capítulo 59, part 3/3

The subdirectora of the girls’ school tells Chivis that she should have told them about AJ being a fugitive when the girls first started. She also tells Manuel he shouldn’t have left that info out when he recommended the girls. Manuel fights with the lady and threatens to sue if she tries to kick the girls out, since it would be illegal.

Vicente comes home tired from the university. He tells Lucha that Majo is moving back in next door and that Chivis is returning to work at the terminal. Lucha wants Vicente with her when he talks to their dad. Chivis’ husband is back and people like him are powerful. Plus a lot of people know there’s something going on between Manuel and Chivis, including Majo.

Stella needs to throw up when she hears Dom say onion. Dom is suspicious that it’s not just because of the food she ate. Stella wants to see a doctor. Dom helps her to the couch. Poncho notes that she ate entire meals as if they were botanas (snacks). Stella feels a little out of it, but has to jump up to vomit again.

Don Benito finds Margarita in the bakery. She runs behind the counter when she sees Jorge coming and asks Benito to say she’s not there. Don Benito does just that and asks Jorge to stop coming around to talk to Margarita. After he leaves, Margarita whines more about Angie stealing him from her.

Dom tries to explain to Stella that being nauseous doesn’t necessary mean you’re actually sick, especially for women... something could be changing in your body… Stella doesn’t catch on. She thinks she might have a brain tumor as punishment for doing bad things to Chivis. Dom starts saying no, you could be… - right when Poncho interrupts with a blanket. Stella starts calling the doctor but has to vomit again.

Chivis thanks Manuel for always helping her family as if they were his family. How could he not defend her girls? Especially since someday they will be his hijastras (stepdaughters). Chivis smiles and comments tú no dejas pasar ni una, verdad (you never miss a thing/let nothing get by you, do you)? She changes the subject to AJ. She doesn’t know how many enemies he has or even how bad what he’s done really is. Manuel says all the mugre (dirt/muck) will come out during the trial, and she will need to be ready for it and all the pedradas (hits/blows) that will come her way. Then he changes the subject again to ask if her heart is still beating for him, as he puts his ear near her heart. Chivis once again laughs at how adorable he is, and says the priority right now is the situation with her marido. Ex-marido, she corrects herself. As long as he’s your ex and not your in, Manuel jokes. Chivis doesn’t get it at first. He has to explain that ex and in are opposites, like in extrovert vs. introvert or exterior vs. interior. AJ is her ex-marido and he is her in…menso amor (great love). Pues yo creo (well I think so), she says as they smile at each other.

Silvana. Excellent complete recap as usual, J! Duh! AJ took off secretly overnight, leaving his family with nothing and he can even ask why Chivis is angry with him? That man is all kinds of delusional! It's good that there's a reprieve on the rent raise issue, thanks to Vicente's reading the contract. 6 months to run seems fairly early to warn about a rent increase. The girls' school is disgusting! The plot development also seems a bit contrived, and Manuel is right that the Assistant Principal seems to be begging for a lawsuit. And we now have proof positive--in telenovela terms, anyway--that Stella is pregnant from her encounter with Steve.

Silvana

Wow, J, that was a terrific recap! I appreciated all the translations since, unless I’m recapping, I mostly let these unfamiliar “dichos” roll right past me.

That was just a ridiculous scene at the school. Although a charter school, Lupita and Angie do attend a PUBLIC school. There’s no way the girls could be booted out of there for the sins of their father. She backed down quickly when Manuel threatened legal action. She wasn’t even the regular principal. I believe they said the real one was away for some reason.

I had written a different comment, but read SpanProf’s before posting. So, we remember Stella having sex with Steve? I don’t, actually. I remember her wig falling off at the house of his employer and Poncho running up there and breaking things. Then she left with Poncho. So, when did they have sex? Of course, she’ll say it was Manuel. It’s hard to gauge time in TN’s. It seems like months since she was with Manuel.

AJ should be ashamed of himself for grilling Majo about Manuel. His daughter really loves him, and he sorta kinda loves his children, but not as much as he loves himself.

Jorge’s conversation with Angie was interesting. He gently reminded her that her inability to forgive was not such a good thing since, of course, she threw him over for that same reason.

Stella is SUCH an idiot. One day she’s telling Chivis how much she wants to be friends, and the next she’s ripping her in front of the whole Terminal for being on the side of the ricachones for sensibly saying that legal action could backfire.

That vomiting scene was a classic, complete with gurgling stomach noises. For me, they could have gone with ONE bout of nausea to make the point!

Please forgive me, but I can’t help myself. I don’t want to offend anyone, but AJ totally reminds me of Donald Trump.

I really want Lucha to end up with Mauro and not Andrés.

SILVANA

novelera- he reminds me of Trump too!

Silvana

Thanks VERY much, J, for another EXtraordinary, INcredibly wonderful recap. (Please forgive the abundant adjectives. I was just inspired by your account of Manuel's wordplay.)

I was surprised at Majo's behavior with her father. In spite of his repeated prodding for information about Manuel, Majo doesn't reveal Chivis' feelings for him. This is especially impressive and surprising given Majo's previous anger at Chivis over these feelings. Majo is maturing at an amazing rate. (If she's not careful, she'll hit old age before the novela is over. :-) )

When I wrote last night's recap, I suggested the possibility that Stella's nausea may signal a pregnancy, but at that point I wasn't really sure. But now I see that the A that SpanProf and I received in Telenovela Medicine 101 was probably well deserved. :-)

Bravo, Manuel! He was something of a wimp in some earlier episodes (e.g., his first confrontation with Cata), but in quick succession we've now seen him stand up to Evil Ezequiel over the rent increase and to the Charter School's Unprincipled Principal over her wanting to expel Lupita and Angie because of AJ.

Once again, I'm delighted, J, that you've included so much interesting Spanish in the recap. ¡Muchísimas gracias!

Silvana

I don't know what to make of these time stamps on our messages. When I started to write mine, there were not yet any comments to J's recap. After I posted my comment, I saw there were three before it.

Novelera, I too would much prefer to see Lucha with Mauro rather than Andrés. But I fear it ain't gonna happen. I also found Stella's vomiting scenes excessive, not to mention all the stomach noises that preceded them.

As for when Stella and Steve Did The Deed, it was on an earlier date, I think. She fell back into a couch and he fell on top of her and....

Silvana

To be more specific about when Stella and Steve did It, it was when she had him come to the "house of her employees," one of whom had just lost his mother. Dressed in black, she and Steve go back to "his" house, where he tells her His Story about being abandoned at the altar in his custom-made Versace suit. Soon after that, they embrace, she falls onto the couch, he follows, and....

Silvana. Juanita: Unprincipled Principal! Love it! Novelera and Jude: I think maybe the reason that the producers of this tn chose that particular actor to play Antonio José was not just that he had played some unsavory types before(Alan Leoni in Bajo el mismo cielo, for example), but also because he is more or less the same physical type as Bernie Madoff.

SILVANA:

Thanks so much, J. I missed this episode, and the one prior, so really grateful.

I must have missed the episode where Stella and Steve get it on, but very relieved to learn it happened. Let's hope it has been way too much time since she and Manuel were last together for her to try to pass the baby off as his.

Silvana

Vivi, I don't have much faith in how telenovelas portray periods of time. I'd bet the farm Stella is going to try to pin this bebé on Manuel.

I'll put up a recap tonight.

J, your recap was enjoyable and much appreciated. Thanks.
